Me encantó, conocía ya una de sus canciones
# Playlist Track - Give up the funk # Notes - Funktastic listen! Exactly as fun and over the top as the cover implies. - Definitely recommend. If you can't have a good time listening to this, please seek help.
W O W last track especially is fireeeee
Really liked, classic funk. 7 song 3 saved so far. Really fun albumn
A party from start to finish, nearly perfect.
The perfect thing to wake up to this morning. Funked out of my god damn gourd.
There’s something about this album that is so funky, it’s like how much more funky could this be? And the answer is none. None more funky. Seriously, this has been beamed directly from the planet Funk in the year funky five million in an Afro-future so funky it completely funks up the space-time continuum. When Parliament went on tour to play this album live they had a huge mothership UFO complete with disco balls that would fly in and land on the stage half way through the show. That is literally how funky they were. Seriously, have a look on YouTube for Parliament summoning the mothership and prepare to get funked. Anyway, don’t mind me. I’m just about to listen to this amazing album again. Funk-tastic!
Damn, funk me! That's funked up, in a funking good way. Nay, funk it: it's funking the funkin' best. 5 "funked up" stars. (Plus, I was so near to Parquet Courts that I extra-credited Sunbathing Animal: man, what a funkin' bonus!)
Funky with sci-fi. This is entertaining.
Funky and cool! Big fan
really strong, like the grooves; fun
Feels like if Funkadelic is the part where you throw every conceivable P-Funk idea and element into the blender, Parliament is the part where it comes out as an incredible yet still pulpy juice. Honed to a sharp edge, the whole ensemble sounds fantastic, Bootsie and Bernie are obviously showing up front and all but still, everything is exactly right for you to nod your head, tap your feet, shake your ass and go off to weird space for 40 minutes. George Clinton groups never take themselves seriously, this one is very unserious too but it’s also the sheer craft behind being so unserious is wild. Also fascinating to listen to this one and have some of the later samples jump out to me so quick, this really was a treasure trove (again, testament to how good and forward-thinking this sounds).
Its has a really cool vibe i love it and it didnt make me miserable like the last one
Funk On
You smell that??? That’s some funky shiiiit. Love love love this vibe. 4.5
Funky! This had me grooving. It’s brimming with joy, and makes me smile. 9/10 Outstanding
Gotta Have that Funk
What a treat!
Ugh they’re so funky it physically aches. Such a vibe
My first experience of Parliament. What the funk have I been doing with my life..!!! 4.5/5 as I’m still coming to terms with this.
TRACK 1 (P-FUNK) : Strong opener, we're funking now. TRACK 2 (MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION) : Strong follow-up, we're doubling-down on funking TRACK 3 (UNFUNKY UFO) : Misleading title, if a UFO was involved in the making of this song, it is undoubtedly a funky one. TRACK 4 (SUPERGROOVALISTICPROSIFUNKSTICATION) : Still funking. TRACK 5 (HANDCUFFS) : Maybe my favourite so far! Wastes no time and cuts straight to the funking from the get-go. TRACK 6 (GIVE UP THE FUNK) : I will NOT be giving up the funk, especially if it's gonna keep being this funky. 'Whole lot of rhythm goin' round' that's for sure. TRACK 7 (NIGHT OF THE THUMPASORUS PEOPLES) : The Thumpasorus Peoples seem like a good bunch. We've funked till the end. Crazy... synth? solos. Sounds like a talk box maybe, or a vocoder? OVERALL : Impeccable funk from A to Z. Gives enough different sounds, textures and groovy variations to keep the album moving and dynamic throughout, while simultaneously confidently planting both feet deep in funky ground and refusing to budge.
Masterpiece gosh. It’s so ahead of its time.
Funny this came up so soon after ¨The Chronic,¨ where Dr. Dre basically just played the same songs with updated gangsterisms. It works, in part because the source material is so strong. If you love funk and outer space then you'll love this one.
Every song is a bop!!
This album put a glide in my stride and a dip in my yip
Everything this list is about. Artist I've never heard of with an incredible album. If you don't like funk you'll hate it but I do and I loved it.
One of the best albums of all time.
A very fun listen and an interesting one as well, with the impact of George Clinton's work on future music in its genre (and other genres that draw from funk like hip-hop) clearly visible. I would give it a 4.5 as the final track is a bit weaker than the rest of the album but I don't think it's enough to drop to a 4.
P-Funk - Really good intro, little bit empty, but still good Mothership Connetion - Like the lead vocals, overall song is pretty good Unfunky UFO - Reminds me of those songs from DPL The Bumps Bump - bass or synth (idk) reminds me of Funky Worm from GTA SA sountrack Handcuffs - my fav track, lyrcs and instrumentals are just great Give Up The - gives me energy to just get up and dance Night Of The Thumpasourus Peopels - Pretty chill outro, idk if it's acid bass or something in the track
THIS RULES! I LOVE FUNK!
Immaculate funk album.
Absolute vibe. I was even jamming to the song that sounded like farts
Hell to the mother fucking yeah. What a breath of fresh air after what feels like such a dip in album quality over the past few weeks. This funk seeped that much deeper into my soul due to mid-music fatigue. No Dips, continously bringing that hip swinging head bopping groove from to front to back. With variation, tempo swing and creativity. Bonus points for the really fun album art cover. As well as the heat that Give up the Funk brings, was familiar with this one Im sure due to media & film, wouldnt be able to tell you where. Straight HEAT
This album is the Funk, The Whole Funk & Nothing But The FUNK. Actually, I think that's another album, but the title fits. Give up the funk is a classic, and definately going on the playlist.
This is some of the coolest shit I’ve ever heard
Funk pinnacle
Best album ever
Grooving to this while drinking my coffee this AM. They’re right, I do indeed want to get funked up. Likes: Mothership Connection; Unfunky UFO; Give Up The Funk
There are a lot of horns and bass in this album. It's a great album and an amazing funk album! Sounds a lot like Curtis Mayfield. Definitely for funk fans and non-funk fans alike. Amazing!
Fucking loved it, so funky ! Will definitely listen to it again
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
The funk on this album is through the roof. P-Funk starts this album off with a bang - the grooves, basslines & upbeat brass melodies are absolutely killer and immediately get your feet tapping. Unfunky UFO follows this up and defies its title with the most funky bassline known to man. The songs that follow do not falter or disappoint either. This is an incredible album, fantastically written & produced into 38 minutes of brilliant energy. It’s just great fun to listen to and I can’t fault it at all.
Wow hold on I was not expecting this, with an artist with under a million monthly listeners in Spotify this album is top tier, why this parliament has a low count for his audience is beyond my understanding because I really enjoyed this
I too find I often need the funk. You should really give it up.
Nope
Holy funk
Five Star Funky
Oh this gonna be a 5…. FUNK
I used to listed to this one regularly. Thanks for reminding me that it had been a while. Great album, but I think everyone already knows that.
Loved it, was strutting around the house
This is pretty damned excellent!
An American classic and a truly pivotal moment in my life when I discovered it
Make my funk the P-Funk. I wants to get funk’d up!
So goofy but so funky. Bootsy kills that shit on bass as always. Definitely on the funk my Rushmore next to James brown and Stevie wonder.
Bring the Fun in Funk.
FUNKy!
This was a really fun and funky album, I really enjoyed it and it was also nice to see where dr Dre sampled let me ride from the title track. Favourite - mothership connection (star child)
Soo good. Thats is all.
This album was a blast to listen to and a total vibe! This album had me hooked from start to finish. I’d only heard a few songs by Parliament before so I had a great time listening to a whole album by them. Overall, this was a great soulful and funky album that I would 100% jam to again in the future!
Yes!
best sci-fi style in my opinion
It’s a good time, groovy, spacey, this band has a deep reverence for life and they know how to have a good time. This album is a celebration of creativity, rhythm and all things funky baby… what is funk you may ask, it’s connecting to that dark, warm, earthy center deep down in the middle of your belly where poetry lives and dancing naturally springs into existence - flowing into your extremities and out through the crown chakra. Feeling rooted with this album, feeling funky.
Great
it's funky. it's just weird enough. it doesn't overstay its welcome.
What the funk
5 out of 5. Listening to this one was a good way to spend a Saturday! Non-stop party from start to finish.
One of the absolute all time great funk albums. What an amazing band on the top of their game. Some stone cold kick ass bangers
🔥
Intergalactic funk. Need I say more oh ya I should it’s the same band who made flash light so ya.
Fuck yeah. My albums to this point have been good but somewhat down the middle for "stuff music journalists like" This is one of the ultimate loose tight albums. The band is so tight they can just be loose and let it hang.
instantly love this album, it's great
We are all citizens of the universe and the party on the Mothership is for everyone.
Unique. Funky. Such a vibe
Parliament – Mothership Connection (1975) On Day 100, I reached a massive milestone with a true masterpiece. This album is all about good vibes, fun, and a groovy atmosphere that creates a great overall experience. The production is immaculate nd the musicianship is at a high level throughout the entire LP. I couldn't help but notice that the title track was sampled by Dr. Dre for "Let Me Ride," which is one of my favorite tracks from him. Hearing that connection really highlighted the masterclass influence this body of work has had on music history. Between the Great vocals of the choruses and the thick, soulful basslines, this was a perfect discovery. A definitive 5/5.
just the right amount of strange and funky for me. makes me wanna DANCE
Three five stars in a row! Keep it coming baby, funk me up.
Oh yeah, buckle up.
Wait so fun i really connected
This album holds up! I first heard it about 20 years ago and loved it then, and still love it now.
When to listen: want to feel good and groovy. Honestly what a fun album.
Funky fresh
Holy funky, this got me feelin the funk in my junk. Absolutely loved the concept of this album, 1st track was a very obvious stand out to me, I'm not normally a funk fan or at least I don't listen to it often but hell I'd rate it higher than 5 if I could
I think the album is pretty.....unique, maybe a taste I'm not too sure since I'm not quite used to it, since it's very talk-sing, but pretty good.
Unbelievably funky album. Can't believe how much I enjoyed this. Highlight: Give Up the Funk
We want the funk!
I’m always amused by how many funk songs are about being funky. It’s the Pokémon of music genres, just saying its name incessantly. These guys absolutely spanked me with this album. So fun, so groovy, so danceable. Bootsy Collins is a BAMF. Not to mention the incredible impact this record had on rock, hip hop, pop, and Afrofuturism. I listened twice, with glee.
Love love love this album! Love funk for its groove and joy.
P funk in it's popular form
Perfection
I love funk
Love it.
Damn, this is the good stuff. Parliament had a run of 4 albums starting at Chocolate City and ending with Funkentelechy where everything they put our was perfect. This album was smack in the middle of that. While I may prefer Funkadelic's Maggot Brain as George Clinton's most perfect album, this right here is the good stuff. Some of the best funk ever put to record.
I’ve heard this before many, many times and I own it. So, Parliament and Funkadelic had started putting together the whole p-funk mythology for a few albums before this, especially with Chocolate City, but this is the first real deep dive into the space themes and characters that came to define their aesthetic and every other p-funk spinoff going forward, and also when George Clinton started using the word “funk” in the same way the smurfs use the word “smurf”. Also it’s a kickass party record. Every single is a classic p-funk afronaut banger and you can’t help but dance your ass off listening to this shit. Without even considering the mythology it kicked off it’s an amazing record by itself, and it only grows more amazing when you consider what it inspired both in the p-funk universe and music in general.
George Clinton é zica!!
Funky, loose concept doesn't help or hurt my enjoyment, great driving album! Another great discovery!
Funk-y. Groove-y. Would make a fantastic live jam sesh.
I want to get funked up
Holy funk that was funklicious
Great funky funk
Funk is my fuel
the best late night comfort soundtrack food for the dark night of the soul...
great album
mtomtomto groovy. amei
Me sorprendió, muy bien :)
Absolute banger. Sampled by dre, warren g, kool & gang, etc.
Awesome funky journey
fucking awesome
All time classic album no skips no breaks incredibly influential and fun
No podes tener este álbum debut, temazo tras temazo
The funkiest

Bring me all the funk you have. Wait, wait. I worry what you just heard was "bring me a lot of funk". What I said was "Bring me all the funk you have". Physically impossible to not tap your foot or bop your head along to this, completely independent of whether you're a fan of funk or not.
omg wow. groovy
Not really my shit, but can't hate the catchy beat
i love the funky and somewhat jazzy groove on this recordc
i mean like come on it’s a fucking classic
Thank you Parliament I'm feeling sufficiently funked up now
it re MOVES you
Rejoice! For we are delivered (except for that poor handcuffed lady). Put a dip in your hip and a slide in your glide… Did human beings make this?
Super Dope
God I just wanna be in a cosmic roller rink so bad.
I let the vibes flow through and I was healed!! Praise Parliament! 🙌🙌
This was such a fun listen. Got me all funked up for sure.
Hell yeah, not the first time I've listened to this one and won't be the last. I'm a sucker for anything that bounces. Makes me want to dust off the bass in my closet and make another attempt at learning how to play. I think Bootsy Collins might be my favorite bassist of all time (with a possible exception of Kool from Kool and the gang). Great cover art on this one too. Saw it at Orange Records recently and seriously considered buying, but got Metallica's "Kill 'em All" instead.
what the hell, sure
froggy 👍🐸🐸,gently deep , space 👽🛸
it was VERY funky and nice :]
I’d be wrong to not give this album a 5. It’s peak funk.
Really funky, loved every track, definitely will listen to again really good
This in the middle of a stretch of nearly perfect P Funk albums in the 70's. This is not my very favorite of them, but it is outstanding and might be the most widely accessable.
I might be exaggerating, but this is the coolest shit of all time.
Knee deep funk
Legendary group and album The quality of the funk is so consistently high, and they come across as if it’s the easiest thing in the world for them, that it feels like someone just happened to turn the mic on for a few minutes at a time, and they just lived that way all day. Unreserved and unapologetically fun and funky. 6/5 stars for me. Absolutely awesome.
Great album if you're into Funk, it's not exactly my favourite genre, but I enjoyed listening to it nonetheless.
Whenever I listen to Parliament it makes me think of my friend who introduced them to me at the perfect time in my music journey. I'd been diving deep into an obsession with RHCP, which surprisingly led me to many other better bands and genres. I remember seeing this album at a record shop, buying it, and deciding to give it to that friend for his birthday thinking I'd find another copy. I still haven't but don't regret it.
this album is legendary, and for good reason. even as someone who leans more rock and metal, i understand how significant this album is and how it informed black music for generations to come/lay the foundation for so much music in the 20th and 21st century. it is other worldly.
FUNky with a capital FUN, this album is so enjoyable, listened to it twice through dancing around doing my chores. Perfect for a Friday morning.
Iconic and infinitely listenable. Head bobbing grooves to make your soul dance
nice and funky
another of the 1001 albums i don’t have to listen to in order to rate. but i listened to it with no complaints. the album not only injected west coast, 90s rap with samples, but is just stunning and perfect on its own
pff! This is one of those albums that make the whole effort of going through this list worth it :) So cool to get to know where the essence of the G-Funk comes from
God damn is this funky as hell. I've gotten a lot more into funk recently so it was lovely hearing this beast of an album. What a joy
Absolutely brilliant. Bass and drums in particular are absolutely inspired. And then you have some great vocal hooks and super brass riffs to tie it all together. Brilliant!
I don't think I can write a better review of this album than the hook on the first song. Make my funk the P. Funk I want my funk uncut Make my funk the P. Funk I wants to get funked up I want the bomb I want the P.Funk I want my funk uncut Make my funk the P. Funk I wants to get funked up
This album is a masterpiece, every song is bumpin’. I have listened to it many times before, but I listened again to make sure every song is fun and fits the album, and honestly the entire album is great.
Funky
Make my funk the P. Funk
Great upbeat funk album. I had heard many of the songs, but never listened to it as a whole. Reminds me of several iconic party songs. 2 songs added to playlist and there was only 7 songs.
Iconic fucking album!!!! Now eagerly waiting to see if George Clinton's other genius freaky funky album baby Maggot Brain makes the list too. LONG LIVE P-FUNKKKK
What’s not to love? Funky groovy made my head bop
P-funk, uncut funk, the bomb. This is a certified classic.
10/10! would recommend to everyone know like funk
Instant party when this album comes on. Every track is groovy, fun, a little goofy, and sonically adventurous. I loved it start to finish.
Jesus, the funk! 5/5
Say some gangster is dissin your fly girl, just give him one of these
Such a banger! I’ve been listening to this album since I was a kid. It makes me shake my thang!
Probably the Parliament/Funkadelic record I was most familiar with before entering this list, and it didn't disappoint on this re-listen. I know Dr. Dre's The Chronic interpolates this album a lot, which is why I checked it out way back in the day, but that aside, this record still maintains that funky, funny, over-the-top, and chaotic energy that's present in so many of Funkadelic's other records. Be it the relentlessly slow and chill opener 'P-Funk', which quite literally feels like floating around in the vast emptiness of space, or 'Unfunky UFO', which goes in the opposite direction, with these satisfying vocal inflections, explosive horn section, and incredible backing vocals singing that sticky lead melody. I'd go as far as to say that this is one of the greatest funk songs of all time. 'Supergroovalisticprofisfunkstication' is another one of these jammier songs that feels like taking a pitstop at some bar space station fusion, and the higher-pitched synth here is 100% the influence for the iconic West Coast whistle. The song 'Give Up The Funk' is another incredibly catchy track, with easily the fattest and sexiest Bootsy bassline on the whole album. No need to keep yapping about how genius these guys are; they just are, and they have undoubtedly made some of the best music to ever grace this otherwise miserable planet. So. Good. Every. Time
FUNK
okay YES - this was such a great listen! I've always loved Give Up the Funk, but this was like expanding that feeling to a full album. A new favourite.
off the cuff, i am so into by these names i quite enjoy when artists do the radio station bit for an album it’s the law around here that you got to wear your sunglasses so you can feel cool -- this is so sib really grooving w this one, i like the beats and how the instruments come together, saved i think every song lol another sitch where i had rly only heard give up the funk from this album, glad to know the album behind the song the songs r a bit longer than what i usually reach for, but i cld def see myself throwing this album on as a whole
Favorite track(s): it's all the nastiest funk in the universe, only on WEFUNK Heard before Previous rating: 10/10
My groove meter broke listening to this funk-tastic album!
Loved it! So many good tracks, no skips. Lots of more modern artists reference this style a lot. Lots of samples and references to this album. Got my bell bottoms and platform shoes on for this.
Damn that's funky.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very cool.
Now this is what we should all be doing. Beam me up
HOT AF love some funk and closing the album with some fart sounds is actually the funniest thing I’ve heard all day no lie, great funk classic a wonderful listen not one song that I disliked 5/5!!
the funk!
We want the funk and we got the funk.
I was already familiar with the album, and most songs but thoroughly enjoyed the funk here. Could dance to this all day.
Stink, stank, funk! Raw and unfiltered. Great the whole way through although I do feel like every song was about 45 seconds too long. Fart machine finale was chefs kiss. Funk outta 5
So up my alley you’d think it’s a dumpster but this album is anything but garbage. Quintessential funk that makes my face look like I just smelled a dry-aged fart the entire listen. God I love P-funk. I will say, 40% of this album is derivative of other songs on the album, however that to me is a positive. I can’t think of a better funk album so it gets my 5. Wish I could rate to the first decimal cuz it would def get like a 4.6 not a 5.0 but maybe I’ll just start putting the decimal in my descriptions. Anyways Godddd it’s so glorpy 😩
turns out i was tryna get funked up. 5 stars.
I didn’t know all of the other great songs on this album, so glad I listened the full way through (twice and back)!
One of the most influential albums I have ever listened to. Long story short, my parents raised me to enjoy all sorts of music, mainly folk/folk rock, along with a good chunk of straight up rock music. My first introduction to any sort of funk was Stevie Wonder's masterpiece Songs In The Key of Life. I liked that album a lot but never really followed up on the funkiness of that album until I got older. Fast forward to my junior year in high school and I hear Parliament for the first time...specifically, this album. I had been introduced to them from Digital Underground's amazing Sex Packets album, and from various sampling in rap music at the time. This album changed the game, made funk mainstream, and anyone who says it sucks obviously doesn't "get it". 5/5
loved it. super funky and great to listen to in the car!!!
Awesome album! So funky. I'm smiling so hard :)
Just heard this for the first time, and it's easily a 5. This for sure feels like an album everyone should hear. How can you hear this and not feel happy?!
I want my funk pure and uncut! Legit though, why is it required that every other word be funk?
such a vibe i loved it it and made walking fun. added a bit of funky groove to my steps
FUNKY - I see why Ol' Greg loves Parliament
Make my funk the P-Funk, I wants to get funked up. Thank you George Clinton & Bootsy Collins. Unfunky UFO may be one of the best tracks out there.
Top tier funk album
Listened to this on the 50th anniversary. Pretty cool. Felt like a bunch of salesmen were trying to sell me funk. I'm sold. Those bass lines and vibes were amazing.
So funky. So good. This record is huge. I just love it. It had me the first couple of times I listened through for just good time funk and fun lyrics and themes.. But it's actually quite experimental and interesting sounding in parts and has some incredibly carefully constructed musical themes. It just all feels so good
Groovy!
Now this is an all timer. This album is funky, has phenomenal flow and is one of the shortest 38 minutes an album has been but this is one of those albums I actually wish was a bit longer, hell almost all of the songs could be a minute longer and I'd have no complaints. Whole not the best in their discography this is absolutely an album justified in it's placement on this list and the 5 stars I'm giving it. I've heard this album before due to its fame and I absolutely loved it before and I still love it now. This is a rare one where I just have no notes. When you first look up "funk" you're guaranteed to run into this album not just because it's described as above as paced and performed beautifully but it's incredibly palatable and digestible. I don't have much to elaborate on this album, if it were Maggot Brain I'd sing its praised more but this album is undoubtably a fantastic album. Best songs: P-Funk/Give Up The Funk Worst song: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 7/18 (Below Tracy Chapman, above LA Woman)
funk maxing
Ga ga goo ga 5/5
Very funky! I can see why it's here. Enjoyable throughout.
Super fun funk
Loved this for a long time...
Outstanding album.
Love this album
A genuine classic!!
Oooooo the funk comes from within. More please!
Bootsy Collins, what a legend.
Nice!
AAAAAAH ENFIN!!! C’EST TELLEMENT FUNKY QUE MON FUNKOMÈTRE A EXPLOSÉ 26 FOIS DEPUIS JE ME SUIS DÉFENESTRÉ À FORCE DE SAUTER CONTRE LES MURS!!!
Such great tunes, 38 minutes of funk I will listen to on repeat.
I would never have come across this album without this project. The cover alone would have put me off. A great album, which I heard for the first time today. Rarely have I heard anything so funky. It's going into my collection. 5/5
P-funk is life. This was such a good time! 4,5/5
Anything with George Clinton's name in it, is an automatic 5 stars.
Perfect album
Ended just in time. A good album without filler. Funky.
ooooo yeah!
Incredible funk!
Fun album, couple of well known tracks. Thumpasarus is a great finishing track. Quick to listen to at 38 minutes.
The funkiest album on this list. Don’t let anyone say otherwise.
Theres no better
A total jam. Maybe their best record. Deep grooves, amazing musicianship, and crazy as ever. Chocolate coated, freaky and and habit forming. Doin' it to you in 3-D. So groovy that I dig me
Noch nicht zuende gehört aber mega geil!!
WEFUNK
I actually loved this. A real vibe
The album was interesting. Funk. I only heard one song from them before. In all, I listened to it at home, danced a bit to the music, and listened to it while I was commuting to work. 5 stars
Is there funk after death? I sure hope so! 4.5/5 #208
No podía esperar otra cosa de George Clinton, el funk mas digerible uplifting y divertido que hay. Increíble producción, música de roadtrip que a todo el mundo en el auto le gustaría. Favs: P-Funk, Mothership Connection, Supergroovalistic...
Loved it. I’d never heard it before (except 1 song), but I can hear how it influenced so many other songs/artists/movies so love.
I gave them the funk
Roof off the sucka
A headphone masterpiece, that you better hope involves wireless headphones because you are going to pull your stereo off its shelf dancing around if those headphones are wired in!
Super fun and funky album. Doesn't take itself seriously and let's the grooves and beats shine. Just a damn good time.
It's impossible not to move to this album. Try it sometime, you will fail.
Got a bit behind and was catching up before listening to this one. I wanted to save it for my commute and it didn't disappoint!
Pre: my proper intro to funk Post: give us the funk you punk
Oh funk yeah! Such a great album. Funk funkiest of the funky funk. This got played multiple times during the weekend. Loved it!
Great! Classic funk, made me feel happy whilst it was on.
This is a great funk album, up there with Sly and the Family Stone's There's a Riot Going On and Funkadelic's Maggot Brain. Loved it.
Brought the FUNK!
Yah this album is fucking perfect. It literally brings the party AND its own catering. It’s everything you could ever ask for, it’s probably one of the greatest albums of all time let alone greatest funk album. Seriously this album is all that and a bucket of funky potatoes. More music needs to be this much fun!
Amazing. The funkiest funk that's ever funking funked. 'Parliament cast themselves as superheroes on the musical landscape, with the singular mission to “save a dying world from its funkless hell.” I concur
#146/1001. Good ol p-funk! Music like this should be more on this list, so we would do something else than just sit there. I knew couple of songs from some parliament/funkadelic collection, but never listened to this album as a whole. I'm glad I did before the funk hits the fan.
Fun, funny, funky. I can hear G Funk and Outkast. This is brilliant. Great Cover Art.
What a brilliant funk album
C'est Dave, un gars de la Floride qui jouait de la basse avec moi dans un groupe il y a 25 ans qui m'a fait découvrir le funk. Sur Crave je recommande chaudement ''Mike Judge Presents: Tales From The Tour Bus''.
Let’s get funked up!
This album is top notch, from production to length to creativity to instrumentalism, it delivers. It’s also been used in so many samples by hip hop artists for the past 40 years, it’s hard to find anyone who hasn’t been inspired by parliament.
We are coming to you live from the Mothership…
That sweet funky mmmgh. Just the right number of tracks to not feel repetitive. 9/10
Gagooga Gagooga Gagoogaga Always loved this I funk with it pretty heavy
I can’t help but be funked. Consider me funk-ified. It almost borders on parody, but there could be nothing more serious under the surface.
Funk it up
We want the Funk!
This is some of that hidden funk I been lookin for!

This album took me into space and refused to bring me home until I knew how to dance
Just a great album. Funky
With Thumpasorus Peoples like Bootsy, George, and Maceo, how can you go wrong?!?
Just great
UNMATCHED GROOVINESS!
I had a ton of fun(k) listening to this album. This was one of those albums that was just fun for fun’s sake. The musicians seemed to be having a good time, the music was upbeat and lively, and it was easy to get into the groove. Funk is also the only genre I know of where it’s not just accepted, but seemingly encouraged to spend half of the songs talking about how funky the music is. This album will definitely go in the pile of re-listens.
This album made my day!!! Who knew I had funk in my soul?!?
Amazing
Untouchable funk. Just a LITTLE bit less freaky than Funkadelic, but still 100% great. George Clinton is nothing short of a genius.
This album is everything. It's a party, or at the very least it's sets the tone for a good day or night. Each song just makes you feel, makes you move, and is effortlessly cool, even with how tight they sound. It's a joy to listen to this one over and over
I've been a passenger on the mothership for many years. It was getting a 5 as soon as I saw I was listening to it today.
'P-Funk, uncut funk, The Bomb.' Authentic having-a-helluva-time music is harder to come by than you may think - it's either qualified by the tragedies inherent to blues music, or it falls far short of something eternally superb. But Parliament is only a good time, which is not to say that it's ahistorical or somehow willfully uniformed. It's to say that funk needed to go to outer space in order to effect this sort of unbridled sanguinity: 'Starchild here, citizens of the universe / I bring forth to you the good time.' Besides the obvious influence this had on L.A. hip-hop (Dre's 'Let Me Ride,' explicitly), 'The Bomb' is also a revelation of production, and in its own way, it's the revolutionary outlook incarnate: I dare you to have an ounce of worry left.
The wrong Clinton became US President: it shoulda bin George, not Bill. Imagine the possibilities... Listen to this as often as you can. Your life will thank you for it.
Pure gold- legendary!
Holy snoop dogg samples! What a formative album for California rap and 90s gangster rap.
That's a solid 5/5. Every track just perfect!
There is no way I am giving this album anything less than 5 stars. It's funk at its finest.
Gotta have that funk
Instant 5. This shit is so groovy. Anything less than a 4 should mean jail time.
Funk yeah! Great piece of art. Great musicianship. Great arrangement. Solid production. Enjoyable to listen to, while also being hugely musically and culturally influential.
Fuckin awesome
It’s funkiest funk to ever funking funk George Clinton is a genius
SO DAMN FUNKY
Jeg vil at all min funk skal være p-funk
I wants to get funked up!
Love it. We want the funk!
When I want the funk it has to be the p-funk
Awesome! Definition funk!
5/5. Funk at its finest. It's almost like an off-shoot of Funk, truly if aliens heard Parliament and Funkadelic through a tiny radio signal and then blasted it in their own way, using all kinds of genres thrown throughout, even innovating new sounds unheard of. Fortunately, its just Clinton, Collins, and Worrell, among others, blessing us with their bopping music. Just a perfect album front to back, each listen gives me a new favorite song. Best Song: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker), P. Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up), Mothership Connection (Star Child)
This is the hundred ninety fifth album I’m rating. I don’t really like funk. Adding to my Playlist - P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Mothership Connection (Star Child), Unfunky UFO, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, Handcuffs, Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker), and Night of the Thumpasorus People. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker) - I’ve heard this before but I didn’t know this was Parliament. All in all I liked 7/7 songs. I don’t really like funk but this is great.
A funk masterpiece
Maybe a 4.
ALL-TIMER!!!!
Going to give this a five on my first listen. When we started doing 1001 albums, this is the sort of thing I was hoping to find. Funk is definitely a bit of a hole I need to plug in my musical knowledge.
Beam me up to the Mothership!
Funky and weird
The funk was brought
I really liked the funky style, really entretaining album
Killer funk! Yes!
Galactic Funk !! Love it….
FUNKY ASS ALBUM
de esos discos que 10 segundos antes de que empiece ya sabés que es magnifico
And album that deserves so much more praise and love. One of the all time greats. George Clinton is an artist with such unique creativity it enthrills ever bone in the body. This smooth funky jazz makes you feel alive and ready to groove
Hands down one of the greatest works of art created by a human being. I had the rare fortune of seeing them play live and it was even better than this Diamond of a record. This album will be played at my funeral.
So many funky themes that have been sampled and influenced musicians of today.
So many classic funk phrases that I didn't know originated here—and great to hear Maceo working his magic.
Fun fact, if you took a shot every time the word funk is mentioned in this album you'd be dead by the first 3 minutes of the first song with a BAC of 0.900%. If you were Andre the Giant and pressed on & completed the challenge, that would result in consuming 2.1L of shots in one sitting, resulting in a whopping 2.935% BAC. Not too much to say about this one other than I listened to it about 6 times before it was time to give a rating. Should be pretty self-evident that I loved it. A little fruity, very funky and absolutely a good time
Day567 - in the car,at work and chilling at home this is good vibes. side note:i always wondered how a band with so many could make any money
It’s George Clinton and about 20 of his closest friends on one stage. Let’s just talk about the talent that produced these songs! Randy Brecker played trumpet with Mingus and Herbie and is honestly a star in his own right. Maceo Parker is outstanding on the sax! He’s played with so many greats! He can lean into jazz or funk equally well. His recording of Grazing in the Grass is my favorite. Fred Wesley was with Maceo in James Brown’s band and makes the trombone speak. That’s just a part of the brass. I bet it was a blast to play with so many great musicians on stage!! Every track is listening pleasure and makes me want to host a house party!
It's fun, funny, undeniably funky and a great listen.
Loved it
Funkin' hell this is good!
