Reviews (page 2 of 13)

The Girl from Ipanema was one of the first 'songs for adults' that I remember being enchanted by as a child. Then I heard it in Park Guell, during my first visit to Barcelona and it was pure m

love this album. perfect for the pool, a quiet night, for conversation.

Completamente atemporal

Smety ale dobra jakość

Really great jazzy saxophone with soft piano, guitar and vocals to create a perfect atmosphere. It's very enjoyable from start to finish including the songs I'd heard and not heard before. The kind of music I want around me for many slow afternoons to reflect on or let drift into the back of my head.

10/10 bossa nova classics, must listen for jazz enthusiasts

This is such a timeless and charming album. A friend introduced me to the record as a whole over 20 years ago (was only familiar with Girl From Ipanema prior) and it was love at first listen. This is still in regular rotation on the turntable

E VAI TER BRASIL SIM 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

Soooo good! I love this. It's got such lightness and all of the artists made such tasteful choices in their delivery of the music. The saxophone is a highlight for me. And the album art is cool.

Busy few weeks on my end. So this was nice to return to my routine and chill in the morning while drinking coffee. Great coffee shop vibe music.

I really enjoyed this album. I also immediately recognized the first track!

Very nice album Vai vai vai

music is love

This hit

Sounded really good and helped me focus on the work I was doing. It made me feel very calm and blocked out distractions. I could see myself going back to this if I need help relaxing or working on things.

Friday. May 29, 2026 Legendary album. Every song hits the right vibe.

an absolute person favorite - perfect for warm weekend mornings

Good vibes

Jazz, i loved the female vocals

Essential easy listening! My 6 year old said "this sounds like love music"... indeed!

god I REALLY need a cigarette (skinny) ONE THING ABOUT ME IS I LUUURVE BOSSA NOVA Zzzzzzzz this album makes me want to take a midafternoon nap on a sunny terrace NO FAV SONG BC IT WOULD BE LIKE CHOOSING A FAV SUN RAY IN A FLOWERY FIELD

Been awhile since I gave an album a 5. I had no expectations going into this one but there's just something about Bossa Nova that takes you to a certain time and place; for me it's an unmistakable feeling of warmth, palm trees, vinyl, a glass of wine, and a doob. If that's what I picture when this album plays, how can it not be a 5?!

bossa nova

Everything is perfect about this album down to the cover art. There’s not one misstep in my opinion. The only gripe I would have is that it’s criminally short. I want more; I could’ve easily accepted this album at twice its length without batting an eye. It’s pure perfection. The lyrics, rhythms, and vocals blend so well, creating a warm, sensual sound that feels like an afternoon spent in deep languor. It is my comfort album.

Awesomeness

i listened to the extended version. 10/10 very beautiful.

Perfection from start to finish

THIS IS MY FAV SO FAR OMG!

Amazing. A classic of Brazilian music.

It sounds great! The álbum quality is awesome! I love João Gilberto and everything he does.

One of the great albums of this list. A Girl from Ipanema is classic

One of my all-time favorites!

I love some Brazilian classics. This is true music. They do not make music like this anymore. Also the mixing and mastering of this album is so good and it came out in 1964... Debating on giving this a 5/5 because it is exactly what I love about Brazilian classical music.

wonderful!

Listening to this album was like soaking in a hot spring I feel healed

the reference Bossa Nova album, 10/10

I'm very early into my Jazz listening journey, but this is one of the albums that got me into it. I will always cherish the memories of walking home in the dark after a late Uni class, listening to this. Such a beautiful record. Perfect everything. Ordered the vinyl seconds into first hearing it.

Lovely!

Amazing jazz album

Yay!!!! I love this album!! My parents’ first dance at their wedding was to “O Grande Amor” and to this day this album’s a personal favorite. It HAS been a second since I listened to it though so I’m glad I got it! And this music... the best way I can personally describe it is music to walk through Garfield Park Conservatory to. "Girl From Ipanema" is a positively essential song of all time. If you were assembling, say, 1001 SONGS that you should listen to until you die, that would be HIGH on the list, at least for me. Simply one of the most incredible songs of all time, due to the 4 distinct moments (João's first verse, Astrud's second verse, Stan's incredible saxophone solo, and Antonio's piano), all of which being undeniably essential moments in the jazz canon. After it ends, there is little time to reflect on what you've just heard before being thrust into "Doralice," which is pretty much "Girl From Ipanema"-lite, though let's be real, that's what this entire album is. Other high points include "Para machucar meu coração," "Só danço samba," and, of course, "O grande amor." Breathtaking. 9.7/10

Just a lovely album to listen to. Minus points for the repetition but bossa nova is so calming. Love it. Specific rating - 4.6 Fav song - Girl from ipanema Least fav - o grande amor

A masterpiece of the genre. I always love listening to it again.

Siempre es increíble la bossa nova

What a lovely record!

Love bossa nova and this is beautiful.

It’s well regarded as THE bossa nova album for a reason, it’s one of the chillest there is. There is the language barrier for me but the vibe is always constant so i won’t let that sway the basically perfect score. Standout is The Girl From Ipanema.

❤️

lovely, so very smooth and pleasant to listen to. Like a warm spring breeze in a hammock.

I can’t imagine listening to this record and not feeling a little better than you did before you hit play.

As far as jazz albums go, I always felt Getz/Gilberto was a little too tidy. But if you're hosting a dinner party, this is the classic go-to for background music.

This is genuinely one of the most beautiful albums I've ever listened to, including stuff that I listen to outside of the project. I am a sucker for bossa nova

The sound on this record is just perfection. The songs are great, the performances are great. I appreciate how the sax is mixed loudly. Easy inclusion on a list of greats.

Perfect soundtrack to a quiet morning or a chill hang.

I was primed to love this, considering Frank Sinatra is consistently one of my most listened to artists. While there is some repetition and a lot of the songs are similar, this is as close to perfect as Jazz gets.

You can never go wrong with jazz, it's just so nice to listen to. Very warm and relaxing.

großartig.

Banger! 4.6

muito bom

This is the soundtrack to my childhood so I have to give it a 5!

Genre defining!

an all timer

I love Stan Getz, I love Jobim, I love bossa nova. If this had Chega de Saudade on it, it would be perfect.

Unimpeachable, 10/10.

Absolute classic bossa nova. Laid back vocals, beautiful and stripped back melodies, rounded out by saxophone at an S-tier level. This is tropical summer possibilities captured on vinyl. 5⭐️

This album can stop my anxiety. It’s the most perfect slice of mellow Latin jazz and bossa nova and should always be regarded as one of the quintessential jazz albums.

Extraordinary. This music is timeless.

Perfect album for spring/summer, a certified banger

oh this nice

I am a slut for bossa nova

i mean just the best vibes

Most marketable Brazilian music, can't say I don't enjoy the vibe, the language...

exceptionnel épatant agréable joli magnifique magique 5/5

Bossa Nova one of the all-time best genres, and this is a prime example

I love this album, I’ve had it for years, my Father had an album of Astrid Gilberto, so as a family we grew up on this kind of Jazz samba - beautiful album🤩

Hermoso

#1 Beautiful relaxing bossa jazz. Organic breathy warm production. Great beginner double bass study for tone and feel.

What a delightfully warm and idyllic place to be transported to. Something right out of an old movie. Initially, this was a 4 but after listening to it 3 times, its a 5 for me. Just when the solo jazzy sounds start to get old, they add vocals. Favorite Songs: The Girl From Ipanema, O Grande Amor

Best jazz

An incredible debut, and another one of those discoveries that keeps me motivated to look forward to the next recommendation, knowing there are some gems like this in this list I would never have come across otherwise.

Yeah, hard to find a fault with this one.

OH HECK YEAH LOVE BOSSA NOVA. This is the perfect “easy listening album” it’s like Miles Davis kinda blue but bossa nova. It’s so unique and jazz and I think every song builds on itself it really is quintessential listening just for the cultural aspect Brazil most important gift to the world besides sugarcane imo. The saxophone work just knows when to hop in I love love every song and I adore

Yes yes yes beautiful*

Wow all time banger!

Me encantó

:) have loved Gilberto for so long…

Fantastic. A great introduction to Bossa Nova whilst still maintaining an American jazz familiarity with Getz on sax The voice of Astrud Gilberto is a beautiful addition to the Girl from Ipanema and Corcovado

The girl from ipanema Desafinedo Corcavado (quiet nights of quiet stars) O grande amor Para Machuchar meuo coracao

An absolutely gorgeous album that melts the soul and makes the worries of the world disappear. Bossa nova at its very finest.

I want this on vinyl

One of the best Latin jazz/bossa nova albums ever made.

What a joy - accessible jazz with predicable rhythms and a soothing vibe that left me wanting more.

First time listen Lovely bossa nova. Having the female vocals on a single channel creates this really interesting sound that I liked a lot, even if I initially thought my headphones were bugging out. 5/5

Great album, even though it's in portueguez

Obviously you can only listen to this in a dinner jacket whilst drinking Martinis. Right up my strasse then!

so chill!

This was my intro to bossa nova. It was one of my favorite work albums when I sat and did paperwork all day. And it’s one of my favorite jazz albums. What more can be said!

I’ve heard this before and i owned it at one time, but it disappeared sometime between college and my mid-twenties. I’ve listened to it since then on streaming but it’s been a while. This is a favorite of mine so I’m gonna enjoy this. I used to be able to play Corcovado on guitar so I’ll have to give that a try this week. I love bossanova and this is a really important album in that genre and for jazz in general, not much more to say than it still slaps some 30 years after I first heard it.

One of my all-time favorites.

I will not include the bonus 45 rpm versions of "The Girl from Impanema" and "Corvocado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)" in this review. I feel like a lineage of albums came together in my journey. About a year and a half ago, I listened to Jazz Samba from American saxophonist Stan Getz, a collaboration he did with American guitarist Charlie Byrd that signaled the beginning of the bossa nova craze in America. Then there's Brazilian guitarist, singer, and composer João Gilberto, whom I may not have heard before. But I certainly listened to his daughter Bebel on her acclaimed album Tanto Tempo, produced by Suba, before his untimely passing. I found it fascinating that these records, decades apart, are linked by this collaboration record between Getz and Gilberto. However, there is one other key player in this collaboration, someone who may not have had top billing, but was nevertheless integral. That would be Brazilian pianist and composer Antônio Carlos Jobim. Not only did he compose two of the songs on Jazz Samba, including the returning "Desafinado", but he would compose most of the songs on the album, assume piano duties, and act as a mediator between Getz and Gilberto as tensions flared between them over their different playing styles. It's amazing how all parties worked it out for this record, which ended up being a landmark in bossa nova, and for good reason. The defining characteristic of this album is how well the piano, saxophone, and vocals were synchronized, building on an established melody or hook with such controlled restraint that these songs could breathe. Jobim and Getz on their instruments matched the whispery vocal leads of João and his then-wife, Astrud, in a masterful call-and-response that transcended linguistic boundaries. It's a sublime, minimalist performance throughout, paired with lyrics of yearning passion, deep reflections on one's surroundings and the passage of time, and even a few jabs at the genre's critics. I especially dug the geographical references brought in, like the neighborhood of Impanema and the view of Corcovado Mountain from a window, painting a beautiful scenery of Brazil. It certainly helped that this record wasn't reliant on standards, save for some polished renditions of Antônio Almeida's "Doralice" and Ary Barroso's "Para Machucar Meu Coração". Getz/Gilberto was a pleasant listen. A meeting of the minds that proved to be truly enriching.

This was an album of the summer of '23 for me. LOVE this album. It's the quintessential American bossa nova jazz album. This went on turntable as soon as i could. Grab a rum drink and chill...

Lovely!!!

first aotd that i listened to on vinyl !! and one i am so glad to have in my collection :) goat!

The first time I heard The Girl From Ipanema was a YouTube video of that synth cat thing. Love the sax on The Girl From Ipanema (also every track of course) and hi-hats crispy as they should be. Great glissando halfway or so in on Para Machucar Meu Coração. I specifically enjoy the sort-of chaotic feeling key changes on So Danco Samba, and on O Grande Amor I find the somber tone mesmerizing. Overall relaxing head-bobbers. I like it for solitude, just you know, perfect for being alone.

This is why I participate.

Listen to understand dynamics!

Classic bosa nova, slow, jazzy, vulgar at times. Reikia žinot šitą record

Someone once said: “If Music is a Place -- then Jazz is the City, Folk is the Wilderness, Rock is the Road, Classical is a Temple.” Both blues and jazz are foundational roots to music, shaping its essence and evolution. 🎶

smashing, fundational jazz/bossa album. should be mandatory listening.

Incredible

This album is aaaahhhhh!! A cool breeze on a sultry summer night. So chill, and refreshing.

Never heard of this one before. Really really liked it.

This album really transports me to another place and time. I feel like I’m It’s so minimalistic and beautiful. It gives me chills. Really cool, dimensional sound.

Sublime. This is what music is for.

The Girl From Ipanema - 5/5 Doralice - 4/5 Para machucar meu coração - 5/5 Desafinado - 5/5 Corcovado - 5/5 Só danço samba - 4/5 O grande amor - 4/5 Vivo sonhando - 4/5 Average score: 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Smooth day na praia

Lovely background music

Love this album. This gets a 5 because it's the sole representative of a vast and varied realm of Latin American music that 1001 albums for some reason ignores.

Honestly if you hear this and you think: "oh that's just music that people play cuz they wanna be cool and different, lol music to play in a cafe to seem worldly", I feel like you're trying too hard to be aloof and above it all. People play it cuz it sounds pretty and is full of emotion that is easy to connect with. Some art can be left as simple as that and still be very enjoyable. I genuinely think that João Gilberto had one of the most beautiful voices in recorded music. And singing those melodies while comping like that. Astrud Gilberto wasn't even a performing singer and she still killed it. Stan Getz brings warmth and energy with his playing. Antonio Carlos Jobim lays back in the groove and has killer touch and restraint. Sebastião Neto and Milton Banana are right in the pocket, making every track tight. Landmark goddamn album for a reason.

Impeccable. Truly a masterpiece in the Bossa Nova genre. Everyone on this album gets it and plays together perfectly. Give it multiple listens.

Mi primer álbum 26/2/2026 . Curiosoa

Airy and mellow. Great again, jazzy music that you can melt into. Love the fuzzy saxophone, Gilbertos vocals and the english vocals all working together with the rhythm of the classical guitar. I'm not sure we need both this and the other album on here, but I like them so I'll take it. Highlights: Girl from Ipanema, Corcovado, the very orange album cover

Fantastic album. I need more bossa nova in my life.

Wow..first listen. Perfect for the end of the day. Very intimate feels like you’re there in the room with them the music in the air …beautiful !!

Grande álbum, só boas vibes

bought this album without really knowing what it was when i was like 12 at the VV in the east end, near eastgate mall and jfc is it a stone cold classic

Love it. Love it. Love it.

This album really got me feeling the vibes of a peaceful morning sunbathing on the beach with a cold drink in my hands. Absolutely loved it!

Great. Doralice is something special. Been listening to this album since I was in my 20s.

Chilling with girl while eating.

I mean, c'mon

If this doesn’t put you in the mood for love, smelling a blooming flower, relaxing in a hammock, fixing a rum-based drink, taking a nap, skinny dipping, reading a book with a breeze blowing through an open window, or ambling barefoot in the grass, nothing will and I’m afraid you’re dead inside. These laid-back sounds mask a seductive sophistication.

STAN GETS IT

Timeless.

I lean more for more aggressive Jazz, but you can't deny the quality of this album. Not only is it THE staple for Bossanova, the instruments sounds unbelievably clear and clean.

Getz/Gilberto is the album that cemented bossa nova’s place in jazz. It’s one of the genre’s biggest sellers, and its most famous track, “The Girl From Ipanema,” is arguably one of the best-known songs on the planet. The album was recorded in New York with pianist / composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, and captures all three of them in supreme form, producing balmy rhythms and instrumentation so relaxed one can’t help but be transported to golden South American sands. Vocalist / guitarist João Gilberto is joined by his wife Astrud on “Corcovado” and the fore mentioned “The Girl From Ipanema”, her vocals adding another level of heady romanticism, and it’s a delight. Just lovely, from beginning to end. 10/10

- classic, not perfect. 4.5 rounded up ..... -

I've heard The Girl From Ipanema a hundred times, but never this whole record. Stan Getz sure sucks but boy could he play a saxophone. Justice for Astrud. The mono mixes are better. Five stars. Favorite track: Corcovado.

Big fan quite ideal smooth jazz. 5/5

Really good

JAJAJAJAJ FANTASTISCH

One of the albums that puts Getz on the map in the 1960’s

Give me a caipirinha and beam me to Copacabana beach baby! Smooth, smooth classics here.

Definitely something I thought I would want to own on vinyl straight away, perfect valentine’s day music too.

Beautiful. Must listen jazz album.

smoooothhhh uoooh h hyeyeeahhh L)))

Another one of my favorites, especially when in the mood for some chill vibes. You know the Girl From Ipanema. You might know a few others. The samba rhythms are infectious and will be in your head for a while. Smooth as butter, especially Stan Getz's sax playing.

every single "The Girl From Ipanema" cover is so good

Well that was just beautiful. Weird knowing this came out over 60 years ago.

After a rough patch of days finally an album that showed me why i like this project. I probably wouldve missed out on this album in my lifetime. But now that ive listened to this i fell in love with it. Such soothing sounds

Beautiful Album

I really found like I like Samba and this is no exception. Just smooth, relaxing, and beautiful. Perfect chill music.

What a vibe

6 out of 5 - a breezy masterpiece. A sultry, smooth bossa nova gem. Transportive and singular, impeccably recorded and mixed - puts you at a beach-side resort in Rio in your mind. I name dropped this record in my review of the Sinatra & Jobim album as the highest standard of this style/songbook and hearing this again so soon after cements my feeling there. Cool and sexy but with some melancholy in there...chef's kiss.

The girl from Ipanema has an album?? And it's good?? What language is this Portuguese?? I'm really rocking with this. It's so chill. Very nice. Low lit bar in a beautiful dress kinda vibe. Really enjoying this. Bro this is so chill. I think I like the Portuguese better than the English songs. Favourite: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao Least favourite: Corcovado

Cool album. Relaxed, not challenging. Makes me want to use the word vibe and I never use that word. Obviously the Girl from Impanema is the stand out track, but you’ll be strangely familiar with may others.

Early Saturday afternoon I went for a walk in the frigid cold and returned back home to listen to this while accompanied by a cup of hot coffee wrapped in a blanket. The Girl from Ipanema is such a comforting song to start with and the vocals are beautiful. To me this album represents _the_ canon entry level bossa nova album, but nevertheless it's precisely because it's an excellent album that it's used for genre tourists such as myself to get a glimpse into the genre's beauty in a singular album. I'm sorry that I'm not well versed in the genre to know if it is undeserving of being praised as such, but at face value it's wonderful.

Enjoyed listening to this over the weekend, hunkered down while awaiting and watching the heavy snow blanket us. There are some latin dance classics here, and while not as fast as typical samba, the slowed down jazz aspect made this danceable while also relaxing to listen to. "The Girl from Ipanema" is in my head now.

This album is a beautiful vibe, especially in sub-freezing temperatures when getting ready for a winter storm. I always forget how much I love bossa nova, until some good stuff crosses my path. And this my friends is the good stuff. I'm not sure I'd give it 5 stars (as like a lot of bossa nova, it's easy for it to blend into the background while listening). But it is certainly 4.5 stars and I"m happy to round up.

Ugh, I love this album. Makes me want to sob with how delicate it is. I'm definitely weak to bossa nova in general, but there's something to be said about the sheer skill it takes to strip something down to arrangements as simple as this and nail every one with panache. At the end of the album, I was left desperate for more.

One of my favourite laidback jazz albums to relax to

The album that got Bossa Nova worldwide recognition and gave Jazz which had been suffering a commercial & artistic decline due to Rock N Roll in recent years a much-needed kick in the ass. It featured the lovely Astrud Gilberto on a of couple tracks, and a gorgeous album cover painted by Olga Albizu that looks exactly how the music contained within sounds. No small feat! An essential jazz album for any library and more than that- one hell of a fun listen as you sip on Caipirinhas with that special girl or guy.

I love jazz

Ausgezeichnete Atmosphäre und Instrumentierung spürbar

Immaculate vibes. Chill, sexy, cool.

Precioso álbum de bossanova

Super relaxing and lovely to listen to on a Sunday afternoon.

One of the top samba/bossa nova/jazz albums! Love this!

Album brings me right where I want to be mentally every time I listen to it. Desafinado

Great stuff, second ever jazz album listen. Although me being a noob to jazz it sounds like background music.

5/5 really really enjoyed this album! loved every song and just had an overall great experience listening to it.

as a Brazilian not born yet when this was launched, it's incredible to know it was the first non-North American album to win AOTY. many of the songs are recnognisable from the most remarkable soap operas we've ever had, most of them popularised by the screenwriter and director Manoel Carlos who we've sadly lost this week. if you like this, try Pela Luz dos Olhos Teus (my favourite) and Só Tinha de Ser Com Você, from Jobim

Like a warm tropical breeze... The one thing that is more cringy than saying how much you like and appreciate something with massive success and wide appeal, is criticizing something just because it had massive success and wide appeal. This album is super smoothe, a little on the nose, but sets out to do exactly what it tries to do.

Dreams in Samba

Yeah it's kind of background music, but there's no rule (I checked!) that background music can't be 5-star music. You can play this all day and I won't complain. Nor will your mistress. Assuming your mistress is over 65.

the best album! ever!

I got asked out while listening to this album so I think it’s pretty good

Saxofone incrível, vozes incríveis e a produção excelente.

Legends. Big fan. Take me to Brasilia agora!

The gentle soundtrack to a chance meeting with an old flame at a cocktail bar in a city you've never been to before. Willing to dance if you'll lead.

5/5 Nice calming jazzy music - heard bits of the album before

I love this album. I already play it regularly in my house. Perfect for a quiet night with my wife or just relaxing and reading a book. 5 stars.

Wow 10/10 would recommend

REALLY liked

Classic- a 5

There are only a handful of jazz albums on this list, and it is a bit of a random assortment - nonetheless every one of them is outstanding and regarded as a classic of the genre. It is a puzzle why there are TWO Stan Getz albums given how few jazz albums are here, but that doesn't change the fact that this album is a brilliant masterpiece. The connection and relationship between Gilberto and Getz produced so much extraordinary music and helped elevate in the US the remarkable samba jazz that was developing in Brazil.

I loveee jazz this album was just so free and mellow

I live and breathe for this buttery goodness. The calming vocals. The wonderful guitar. YUMMMYYYU

Fantastic Collaboration!

LOVE GETZ/GILBERTO! Gateway drug to Bossa Nova / MPB / Tropicalia (to a degree). Everything here seems so deliberate and well placed... and yet so loose? I think it has to do with how well-distilled each part is -- so that only the best remain, and the dregs (see: Sergio Mendes / Verocai / Deodato / Duprat and their over-orchestration, which I personally do enjoy, but can get a bit saccharine) are filtered off. Top 10 album for me personally.

The girl from impenema! what a legendary song. This album is great, I am 100% putting it on whilst I cook something fancy and drink red wine.

Beautiful notes and lyrics which float. Saxophone yes!!!🎷

A vibe defining record. We didn’t understand the vibe was possible til this dropped and that lax laid back vibe still hits.

A classic ever since.

Perfect gentle vibes

The girl from ipanema is on this album. A bossa nova classic 5 stars

The goat!

Heard this again for the first time, loved it.

Hi, no notes for the album, fucking fantastic, i love bossa nova 9.9/10

Timeless quality and gorgeously smooth.

Girl from Ipanema is a classic. I have to listen to this more often, loved it <3

Classic Bossa Nova we've heard many times. Lovely and a good vinyl buy.

Very chill, will hopefully listen again

Very calm

I think I love this one. So chill. 5 stars

Jó volt hallgatni ezt az albumot. Igazán kellemes.

Like an old familiar friend

Beautiful. Makes me wanna light a cig and have a whiskey.

Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Also a refreshing change from the rest of this list

Peaceful, calm, great background music.

Very smooth cozy album. This is the album you want to listen to during the Holidays. A glass of bourbon, Christmas tree lit in the background and a fresh layer of snow on the ground.

Gilberto's voice is incredible. Astrud's too. Getz's sax is wonderful. What a wonderful coming together of cultures and styles. An album I will be returning for a lifetime.

Great! They sing in a foreign language! How cool is that?

Rioooo

Two legends create a legendary album.

One of my favorites!

classic

Classic genius

A nice feeling of summer warmth to help thaw my soul as I try to make it through this terrible winter.

Listened while sitting in first class on my flight home from Thanksgiving, and it was the perfect album for that.

Love this album

Album 64/1001 My favourite album - absolute musical perfection that never fails in taking me to my happy place - aka Brasilllll 🇧🇷 😁 🇧🇷 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

This is a worthy album!

5/5-Banger-Album voller Classics.

I really enjoyed this album. Relaxing feel. Well performed songs. Great musicians.

Start your day, or cap your night, with Getz/Gilberto, the best of both Brazilian bossa nova and American jazz worlds intermingled, and you'll soon find your mind wiped clean of worry, replaced instead with deep, contented tranquility and congenial warmth.

Could listen to this all day. Absolutely loved this

PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE ALBUM EVER

Its something I could listen to around the house all day.

Great music for lazing around with an exotic cocktail in your hand

I'll take any excuse to listen to this classic.

I dated a few Brazilians in my day and by dated I mean I was a slut

Flawless. I can understand the critique that it sort of blends together and fades into the background. But if you pay attention and keep that from happening, what you're treated to is a top-to-bottom grand slam of beautiful, subtle, exceptional jazz. Also, Astrud Gilberto is probably what angels sound like.

Very nice album!! The other non hit songs are also great.

This is the best album of all time. Dude. I love bossa nova. God bless Brazil. I love the world and life. Change da world. My final message. Goodb ye.

somebody get me a caipirinha

The epitome of cool and smooth. Have owned this for a long time and enjoy it each time I hear it.

Girl from Ipanema is fantastic. Samples galore all through the album. All feels like Magical Realism

Ugh. I love this album. Bossa nova is so good. I wanna be at a lounge on the beach having a nice drink and enjoying the views, having arrived in my convertible. But really, Getz is so good on sax, Astrud's voice is perfect.

This is one of those Friday evening, couple drinks in me, chilling on the couch and just smoking a joint albums that hits like no other.

Seit Jahrzehnten auf Dauerschleife, stilbildend!

Easily 5 stars, establishes the bossa nova sound and cemented some of that swinging 60s sound

Why listen to anything else?

Classic

Absolute classic. I’ve been listening to this album long before this review so I was equal parts excited and disappointed I had to review it, as I knew it would be great but not new to me. Anyways for the actual review I’m just going to say that this album is perfect from top to bottom. The instrumentation is amazing and the vocals are beautiful. It’s not really informative I know but I don’t know what else to say. This album is a Jazz / Bossa Nova standard for a reason. Any person with an interest in this genre absolutely must listen to this album. Best tracks: Girl from Ipanema (both versions are stellar) Corcovado Worst Tracks: Can’t pick

Absolute masterpiece

João and Stan wrote it, album, oh so sweet and calm, timeless such a charm.

Brilliant. Knew some of the tunes on it, but not heard them all in one go. Delightfully uplifting. Great musicians.

Favs: The Girl From Ipanema, Desafinado, Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars), Vivo Sonhando

5 estrellas. Sin duda. A la playlist: literalmente todas.

so smooth

four or so years ago i tried a "60s lounge music, space pop, easy listening" playlist because i needed some ""easy listening"" to get me through the work day. four or so years later i regularly listen to "adult standards" (or as i interpret: boomer music) and girl from ipanema is one of my favorite songs. i can't get enough of this stuff - it's catchy, it's smooth, it's the perfect distillation of music. i want to dance listening to this!! i want to kick my feet up and have a beer listening to this!! fuck big elevator for co-opting this: this is MUSIC for living your life, not MUZAK for some fleeting moment of purgatorial transit!! highlights - the girl from ipanema, corcovado (quiet nights of quiet stars), só danço samba, o grande amor

An essential jazz album. Very accessible for people trying to get into jazz.

It's been a while since I heard someone speak Brazilian Portuguese, so this brought back memories. While I surrounded myself with chaotic energy, this soothed me from the massive nightmare of the previous album. It also improved my work efficiency 🧐

Didn't take long to get to this one. As I said in my previous Stan Getz review, this is the superior album. Very cool. 5 estrelas!

This album is cool with a capital K. Great for listen before, during, and after almost any thing.

Great.

JAAA ELSKER

Fantastic. Added it to some playlists on Spotify. This is the highest honor I can bestow in my limited capacity as a consumer of music 🤣

This is a great album. It's actually hard to stop listening to it.

5/5 Listened to this with a cup of tea and candles while taking a warm bath. Peak experience.

Not going to lie, I Love Bossa. Can barely remember any song but the groove and mood of it sets me in a good mood. This album is a perfect introduction to the genre and probably the most well known.

This is more of my jam.

Reminds me of summer

Beautiful, sublime. The combination of Stan Getz tenor saxophone, João Gilberto’s subtle, understated guitar and his and his wife Astrid’s low sultry vocals is outstandingly good. “The Girl From Ipanema” is THE bossa nova standard but the rest of this slow burning, intimate record is just as good.

amazing, loved every second of it. great vibes definitely deserves to be in the best albums
