good swing

Big band innit

Good background music. Just another jazz album, nothing special.

Another 50s jazz record that I'm not quite sure how to rate. It's solid and I legitimately enjoyed listening to it. There's also no vocals though, so it really feels like background music to me rather than something I'd choose to actively listen to. This guy recorded with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett though, so he must be legit. Favorite song: Splanky Other: The Kid from Red Bank, Flight of the Foo Birds, Whirly-Bird, Midnite Blue 11/11/23

Fallout music, no singing, good

Fun jazz album, though nothing standout for me.

The Kid from Red Bank: I didn’t know what to expect from the album I craved this energy honestly Duet: I keep wondering what does this song remind me of Is a sultry walk of a beautiful woman with a fur collier and very long eyelashes, but is just a fantasy, an ink drawing about something none can experience in 2023 so just thinking about it become a fool, a joke After Supper: I wonder how can be such grace and harmony between people when they play together Giving space to each other, knowing harmony is needed to survive a jam I can feel the gentle touch of respect Fight of the Foo Birds: I don’t know if is me but I do crave words so bad that this one makes me cheer at the winds as they’re meaning something more than sound, as I do dream about birds’ convos Double-O: goosebumps at first, more I dig in this album more I become to hear instruments as vital energy in the sound of them Maybe is the first time I’m really gaining consciousness of instrumentals Teddy the Toad: gentle reminder of pleasure, like a man who is too fierce to listen to others Whirly-Bird: I hear fun Midnite Blue: cozy warm cocoon but I get disturbed by a device working in the background Splanky: someone has to say that story how is supposed to be told, is about going back and forth Fantail: I need to talk, no rest, I cannot explain, I feel caged in words Lil’ Darlin’: accepting fate as a woman in this world, yet facing what’s behind a bush of flowers, the journey of gentle exploration Album cover: on point, I get the whole concept

The Kid From Red Bank - 7/10 Duet - 7/10 After Supper - 6/10 Fight of the Foo Birds -8/10 Double-O - 7/10 Teddy The Toad - 7/10 Whirly-Bird - 8/10 Midnite Blue - 6/10 Splanky - 6/10 Fantail - 8/10 Lil' Darlin' - 7/10 TOTAL - 77/110

3 stars - not used to big band stuff but it's cool, more intimate than I think of traditional big band as being

Count Basie was legendary for his jazz, and this is a decent example of his music.

Makes me want to put on my finest suit, pour a bourbon and a grab cigar for an after supper swing party. I don't love big band jazz, but Basie is an incredible pianist and band leader. 3

A real toe tapper.

Starts right away with a great big band vibe. Album cover is super jarring but an explosive jazz album.

Great sound from a group of talented musicians. A real easy listen, even if it’s something I wouldn’t usually gravitate to

i dont like big band that much.... sorry. makes me feel like im playing a fallout game :)

Even though I don’t usually listen to a lot of swing or big band music I enjoyed listening to this album. I liked the mix of tempos and different instruments and it was a nice one to listen to with R Splankiest track: Splanky R’s fave: Midnight Blue

Kuitenkin 3 star.. koska iloinen olo tätä kuunnellessa.. Equilevantt to John Coltranes spiritualistic awakening.. Joskus ei tunnu reilulta objektia..

Big band classic. Feels early. 3.5

We follow a jazz-inspired album with a full-on jazz record. It's the first jazz record I've listened to, and also the first fully instrumental one (except classical ones, of course). And it was surprisingly fascinating! The potent big band tune on the first track kinda caught me off guard, but it earns its classic reputation as it goes on. Tracks like "Duet" and "Flight of the Foo Birds" on the first half are good, but the second half, and especially the run from "Whirly Bird" to "Lil' Darlin'" was the truly memorable part for me. Everything feels so tight and whimsical yet effortless, showcasing the incredible talent of both Baise and his orchestra. That said though, I would be lying if I said I love this album, or it fits my taste perfectly. There are some moments not as distinctive from other songs on the album, and it's not a bad thing at all when it comes to jazz vibes, but it does stop a newbie like me from wanting to listen to this thing from top to bottom again, right here and right now. It is a good album, a great one even, and I am certainly willing to frequently return to my personal highlights on it, but not one of my absolute favorites all in all.

Leuk voor achtergrond muziek in een cafeetje. Alleen trompet vind ik wat minder.

Lively, good, not great but something that scratches a certain itch

Pretty solid. Did not know what to expect here.

If you love jazzy big band numbers this is the album for you. If not, it's at least a fun diversion that makes you think you're watching some old Jerry Lewis movie or something.

Some nice jazz

middle of the road big band

Some nice Jazz right here; plus the cover goes hard

Liked this album alot. 3 doesn’t mean average, 3 means good album that I’d listen to regularly

Opens really strong but kind of fizzles out in my opinion. Definitely worth another listen to really appreciate this album.

Just a nice little jazz album. I love the fact he put an atomic bomb on the cover. Really sounded great and I loved whirly bird a lot

Zu old

3/5. How could anyone not like this album. While it is considered pop, I think of it more as a jazz arrangement. Also thought it was really cool that the first song is called “The Kid from Red Bank,” knowing that he has a theater in his name in town.

First listen: Yes Best Track: Double-O

Pretty jazzy

Surprisingly listenable.

Pretty cool

Lots of big band and jazz lately

Great background

That's a seriously tight swing band

The album art is a wild choice, it goes so hard. Doesn't sound like the music at all to me which is what I like. The swells on "Whirly-Bird" are incredible. When the band trades fours on "Fantail" I lit up, the drum break is wild. As far as production, it reminds me almost of "Bo Diddley's Beach Party," where it's just ever-so-slightly blown out. It's a captivating record.

I was expecting some punk or something based on the cover

I like Count Basie, but I don’t find these to be his most interesting or exciting compositions. Still very enjoyable, though.

Took me back in time and made me think of those who lived in my city back then. Definitely something to passively play at a party. I’ll add it to the library.

Age: Legendary, og jazz. Crazy.

It sounds great, but I'm going to be honest here, I don't know if I can fully appreciate it as I hardly ever take an interest in big band music. 3 stars for neutral

Prima big band plaatje, lekker vrolijk.

This really swings. Great to listen to albums like this that laid the ground.

It’s just jazz.nice sounding jazz, not really anything special,or at least I can’t tell anything special about it.I’ve never been a huge jazz guy so maybe I’m missing something.Nice enough though.

Great album. Great for working and listening.

inb4 filtered but its just background music

I was excited to finally get some jazz, but this was mid.

It’s Cool. Wish it kept the energy that was present in the first track instead of the mix of slower, more relaxed songs. Enjoyable; really need to listen to more Jazz. 7/10

This felt like typical big band music that could have been played throughout many years over many circumstances. There’s nothing particularly wrong with it, I’d say it just comes down to preference on how much a person likes big band jazz and how knowledgeable they are about the nuances. For me it was good but nothing I’d revisit. 6.2/10

Classic jazz.

lo-fi nuclear war to relax to

agréable matinée ferroviaire

granalbum

Liked the contrast of nuclear holocaust and jolly jazz for that sir.....

Nice. Perfect mellow background music, not too challenging.

Nice stuff. Not world changing but good, solid, Big Band work.

Fine and dandy mister splanky!

nice and jazzy 👍👍

This is a good big band record deserves its place ion the list, but personally not music I’m that into

brilliant

Reminded me of fallout 4

Pretty good. Wasn't sure what to expect as I've never really listened to swing or big band stuff, but I liked the jazzier elements of this. Rating a 3 star, but probably closer to 3.5

big band goodness. this one satisfied my craving for upright bass, always a treat for me. just the right mix of upbeat numbers and slow songs. good stuff. highlights: “kid from red bank”, “double-o”, “whirlybird”.

This is good for what it is. I'm sure at the time it was groundbreaking stuff, but I have to view it through the lens of the current day and it's seemingly standard in hindsight. Either way, it's enjoyable.

This was okay! The definition of a three star album, perfectly competent and pleasant jazz, there was nothing that stood out about it positively or negatively to me.

Decent background music. Didn't stand out to me much.

Not normally my thing but ok

This was quick and easy. I didn't get much from it but it takes talent to make music like this so I'll give credit where it's due.

• Didn’t mind this album, it was nice to listen to and quite atmospheric • Would probably sound nice on a record player • Having said that, I probably wouldn’t listen to the songs that often • Favourite song: Whirly-Bird

Voelt heel old school.

A lovely bit of jazz- not my genre but I did appreciate it.

Fun, upbeat jazz of the era

swingin' stuff, not the favorite style

I do love Count Basie's music and I have personally performed After Supper and Splanky with the trombone in a big band setting. The opener is short and sweet, but explosive and grabs your attention right away. The order of the album is something that I don't think enough people think about these days, and this album does it so very well. Production-wise, it's clearly the 50s. Everything is in mono, but it is EQ'd very well. At times the horns get abrasive and the compressor activates against the wall of sound and the whole thing just sounds like mush. None of this takes away from the quality of the music itself of course, since it's so well performed. The nylon stringed guitar on Lil' Darling was an interesting sound to add to break up the monotony. It feels almost out of place since the timbre is so much different from what we had been listening to. Overall, I dig Count Basie's sound and found myself getting lost during sections of it. A great listening experience.

Solid for what it is. 2.5/5

Some good numbers, but felt sleepy listening to some of the slower pieces. Not my favourite genre but a good first step into the world of jazz.

This is a pretty strong 3. It's enjoyable enough. I probably don't have a good ear for jazz like this; it all sounds like background music to me. But it's good background music. My favourite song was Whirly-Bird.

Sounds like rainy Sunday afternoons at my Grandparents

Sure is another jazz album. Liked this one a little more, enjoyed the trumpet ensemble.

Not too shabby, but I think I'm less likely to just put this on than some of the other jazz albums I've had from this list so far. Probably needs more listens 🤷

Interesting and actually quite pleasurable jazz album with a whole ensemble orchestra from 50s. Catchy tunes, very positive tones, overall a nice experience. Nothing that really caught my attention, but a perfect record to listencto in the background on a lazy Saturday evening. I will try to remember the name, but probably won't come back to it very often.

Ottima musica di sottofondo

I mean, whatever

Pretty cool. Pretty good. Pretty fresh even here in the 2020s. Still not my favorite style but yeah it's good.

The epitome of big band music. Great jazzy horns, walking basslines and drums.

As far as large orchestral jazz bands go, I really don’t mind listening to this type of music. However, it is not my go to for casual listening. Mostly, I feel as though I’m playing fallout 3 and exploring the dystopian landscape. Nothing wrong with this music, but the situation has to be just right. The music blends well together and you could listen to this whole album without really realizing that there are too many individual songs. The mastering is good for the time.

This was pretty good.

Perfectly inoffensive and listenable. I don't love it but, more importantly, I don't hate it.

"The Atomic Mr. Basie" is an album by American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader and composer Count Basie and his Orchestra. Swing and big band are the noted genres. This apparently caught a lot of the big band core audience by surprise with its forward-looking statement within a big band recording. A fair bit of free-form jazz going on here for sure. The Orchestra included four trumpets, five trombones, five on sax and flute, a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist and Basie on piano. This album won Best Jazz Performance for Group and Best Performance by a Dance Band at the first Grammy's. Wow! "Kid from Red Bank" kicks things off with piano, horns and a prominent rhythm section. Back and forth between the piano and horns. A piano jam. It was written by Basie and Neal Hefti who would go on to do a lot of 60's TV songs including Batman! "Whirlybird" has a big horn start and a driving bass. Hey, a horn jam. The album ends with my two favorite songs. "Fantail" is fast paced. A great drum solo. OK, I could dance to this. An explosive horn ending. "Li'l Darlin" is slow and sultry. More jazzy and relaxing. Dominating horns. I've opened up more to big band musictoday than from the early to mid 1970's where I'd be forced to watch PBS Lawrence Welk re-runs while staying at my grandparents. The only break I'd get was having to run down to the basement and get my Grandpa another beer and since that was quite often, it lessen the big band pain. Now, I would quite enjoy this: the music. Not running down to the basement. Anyway, an enjoyable listen if like big band music or even jazz.

High School Jazz band energy... living for this

Solid hot jazz

Swing jazz, which is not really my kind of jazz. Also a bit dated. not a favourite

good but a little bit boring

Interessante

It was okay, had a few good tunes but Jazz is not really my thing.

Listened Before? N Count Basie was incredible. I'm familiar with his work from his time with Frank Sinatra, but I've never listened to just him and his orchestra. It's a good solid jazz/big band record. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Fantail

I can certainly understand why it is considered good, but it's not really my type of music. The first couple of tracks sounded familiar and were interesting listens but after that, the remaining tracks melded into one another. Overall not bad for background, choring music.

Pretty decent. Hard to distinguish it from other music of its kind so I'm not overly infactuated with it, but I still enjoyed it nevertheless.

It was a-ok background music.

Not a bad album. Have heard some of these pieces before but never knew they where by Count Basie.

Pretty good album :) Made me want to listen to jazz all day Splanky slayed 💅🏽 but we all knew that

Listened to the first 3 songs, I like it

I want to come back to this album

good big band music. i chilled to it, coulda done it to it. wink wink. whatever, someone out there wining and dining their lover to this shit. toot toot mother fucker.

Bit dull, in contrast to the album cover

Maybe because i lived through the swing revival. Thought this was pretty good.

T3B 1. Splanky 2. Midnite Blues 3. Teddy the Toad Little older, but still great Jazz.

I don't get jazz. This is pleasant enough but I don't really have to ability to differentiate it from most other work in the genre. It certainly doesn't suck, but I will probably never ever listen to it by choice again.

Fine bit of swing a ling ling

It's nice, but if I'm honest it just feels like background music, or the theme tune to an old looney tunes cartoon.

Kinda fun.

The sort of jazz I can dig

Big band isn’t really for me

Pretty cool.

Big Band/Piano Jazz. Not really my thing. 2.5/5

A more than decent jazz album, quite enjoyable and interesting. Maybe not my cup of tea, but a solid record for sure.

It’s jazz

A lot of energy but the horns are a bit much for morning listening.

23rd September 2022 Listened mainly on Sunday driving back to our hotel from castle bay in France. Chris and Imane’s wedding weekend. Big band jazz, very cool.

It was very nice. The sort of jazz you'd think of if you pictured a cool 1950s beatnik saying hey Daddio. Very dated (duhdoy, it's 70 years old), but the band is so tight, and the whole thing was very enjoyable, even though it just further confirms jazz as soon me thing I will always respect, but rarely love.

Good, but felt a bit like background music for vocal jazz. If you’re into jazz you’ll find something you like though

4/11, 36%

It’s a fine big band album. I feel like big band doesn’t really stray too far from that classic sound, which is fine, but still won’t blow me away necessarily. 5/10

I’m normally not a fan of jazz (that’s was this was, right?), but I didn’t hate it.

70/100: Our first jazz album, and a big band jazz album at that! This was a really fun listen to and came at a perfect time: on a day where I had to knock out a lot of homework. This album provided the perfect soundtrack for that. Although, I wouldn’t ever listen to this album solely to listen to it, I think that’s an unfair metric for jazz. I find my appreciation for jazz doesn’t come from listening to it in the same way that I listen to other genres—making the act of listening to the music the primary focus. I instead find it beautiful how jazz unconsciously seeps into your mind while it plays as background music to another activity. Multiple times while working on my aero homework, I found myself unconsciously bobbing from side to side to the music I had gotten so used to hearing for the past hour that I forgot it was even playing. That’s the power of jazz, and this album did as good of a job as most jazz albums I’ve listened to in revealing that power. There are jazz albums I like better than this one, though, and I hope to see those at some point in this project.

Was really digging it at first but by the end felt super over it

Cool album cover, sweet piano flicks, all right jazz music, not really any memorable songs, good vibe.

I dug it. Not sure how often I’d go back to it though.

Good jazz album, not my cup of tea though

Solid jazz album, sadly for someone of my generation music without lyrics all is harder to distinguish. The songs didn’t sound the same but it makes me very curious why they were named like they were.

Fun jazz.

6/10 not quite my style, not bad, not exceptional. At some point, probably influential. Cowboy Bebop vibes. Bouncy horns and dreamy waltzes.

Not usually a fan of jazz but it was pretty good working music. I liked the piano bits

Big band jazz, not my favorite jazz, but still good.

nothing necessarily fantastic but the big band interplay is an interesting chemistry that can't be found in every aspect of jazz. with that being said, this isn't the most interesting jazz you can listen to, that's for sure...

I don't deserve to judge this album.

I dig it

V chilled. 6/10.

This album makes me feel like I’m wandering around 1950s Manhattan

Babbety.

Decent. Kinda cool, felt pretty bored most of the time. 5/10

not my bag, but good for what it is.

This was fine, just like all the other instrumental albums on this list. I didn't notice when the album ended and Spotify started playing another artist.

Good Jazz

really liked one of the songs

A bit much of a good thing.

Not my jam. Cool album cover though

Good but only so often I would listen to this

I should probably sit down with these more instrumental ones and try headphones but they are fantastic background music while I work.

Hard to believe this is as old as it is!

I haven't heard a ton of big band stuff but among the stuff I've heard this is one of the cooler ones. Makes me want to explore more for sure. The cover is striking too and very different than what I'd expect from a big band album, or any 50s album really.

Well it's nice enough but I really couldn't tell the end from the start from the middle.

Tbf not bad, big band not necessarily for me but didn't mind

I'm still not much of a jazz fan, but this is on the good side of it.

I don't know if I loved any one song, here, but this could play all day every day in the background of where ever I am and I'd be okay with it.

Strong 3

5/1/2022 Today's Album: "The Atomic Mr Basie" by Count Basie - Basie, his big bands, and his orchestra ruled jazz for decades. Just going back through this man's discography, you can see albums from all the way back in 1936 up to as recent as the mid 90s! His jazz stylings are always iconic and even from my little experience with playing jazz, I know that his tracks are some of the most fun to play as a brass player. The fact he stayed relevant throughout essentially the entire 20th century is truly astonishing, but it isn't for no reason. These jazz tracks are ones that created the blueprint of what popular jazz music is and it is obvious that Basie never stopped innovating through the changing of what was popular in jazz throughout the decades. As for this album, the production quality, although perhaps lacking by today's standards, is pretty outstanding for being released in the late 50s. The performances are very lively and the improv from whoever is soloing at a given moment are always spot on and full of creative passion. I like that there are a variety of different jazz moods on this album, and although there is sort of this dated fuzz to a lot of the sounds recorded here, the performances really do shine through. The horns really take the spotlight on this album and it is to be expected from a Basie record. Not to say the other instruments aren't also fantastic, but horn quality, tone, range, and consistency like I'm hearing on this record it so so hard to achieve from a horn section and it is just pulled off so well in every track. Aside from that though, the saxophones are all in time with each other and whenever one of them solo's it sounds fantastic. The rhythm section feels pretty standard for a jazz outfit, but given the spotlight shined on the band, it really isn't too big of a deal. I like the tracks where the tempo picks up because Basie just has this touch with these fast and chaotic tracks that just pulls me in every time. Overall, I find myself enjoying this album as a listening experience, but it doesn't do a ton to really "impress" me in terms of jazz music. However, it is still a ton of really solid jazz tracks with some admirable solos. Jazz to me is something that is always great as background music and this album is great for exactly that. Give this one if you like ragtime jazz music. Highlights: The Kid from Red Bank, Duet, Flight of the Foo Birds, Whirly-Bird, Splanky, Score: 6.5/10 50's Jazz

Shannah unexpectedly liked. 3/5 Jane expectedly liked. 3/5 Bill liked but felt it was a bit generic. 2.5/5 Conor agrees with Bill. 2.5/5 2.75/5

Three stars, maybe? The swan song of Big Band Jazz and an all-time classic for many (plus, what an album cover!). Obviously, this is a landmark record for many but I'm not sure I'm sold on this one. Besides, there are so many *huge* gaps when it comes to jazz in Dimery's list that I think you'd first need to fill those gaps with all the wonderful albums in the genre that are still missing in the list, and then see if there's room left for "The Atomic Mr Basie". And I don't even think I'm an expert in jazz (it's just that all the important masterpieces from the post-bop period of the sixties *need* to be included, period). So, to put it in a nutshell, I can understand listening to *The Atomic Mr. Basie* once because of its cultural importance, and overall it's been an interesting or fun listen, if not a pleasant one. But I'm not sure I ever want to play that album again now I've listened to it once. Number of albums left to review or just listen to:  more than 900, I've temporarily lost count here Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens:  approximately a half so far Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: a quarter (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): the last quarter

3 stars because I don't know anything about jazz. I assume it's incredible.

Liked this just fine. Enjoyable but not amazing.

Not really that much into this kinda jazz but it was enjoyable enough for what it was.

I'm not the biggest big band fan, but I love jazz

Good swing music. Final track was my favorite.

Swing, agradable

I don't like very much the jazz but I think Count Basie is one of the best.

Jazz is good but not big band jazz. Didn’t listen to all of it.

Enjoyable, not as good as some of the other jazz albums I've had on here. But still a pleasant listen throughout.

Bon swing

For a swing album from 1959 it was ok, nothing more than background music though

It's very good. What else can you say. 3/5

I quite like Count Basie's big band music, but I noticed that I like contemporary renditions much more than the "real thing". I put that to recording quality: my favourite takes on Basie are audiophile recordings. A well made recording turns the visceral impact of the big band is something else. The originals are, of course, still very good, even if their recording quality cannot compare.

Classic Jazz/Swing orchestra who played with prime Sinatra. Great to listen to whilst WFH. Not sure I'd go back to it many times like i do with Miles but enjoyed it enough to give it 3/5.

Ta bueno. Hace tiempo no escucho algo parecido, me falta escuchar más cosas de esa época

Nights out in the 50s must have been an absolute blast.

Ba-ba-BAAAAAAA

Little too jazz not enough big band for me. Not sure I get it mainly

I think this was good and technically really strong, but big band simply isn't my thing!

The type of music that makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn’t even alive. Easy listening and good background music

a sense of grandiose and scale that elevates a record filled with bombastic instrumentation.

It's nice to put a sound to an iconic name of the big band / jazz world. Not my usual genre but I quite enjoyed it, especially the tracks where the bass skips along at a good pace. It all sounds very neatly put together. I'm a fan of the album cover and the cute track names too.

Nice to have on in the background. With no reference point for swing music, I'm struggling to say much more about it though.

The best of this album IMO: - Midnite Blue Aggressive and lively. Sweet jazz. Entertaining. Window to the past. 3.2/5

I prefer more relaxed jazz at the moment, but I still enjoyed a few of the songs.

I was expecting swing cheese, but it thankfully never arrived. The music carries itself without cheap tricks, and the elements that are cliched now are there but in pleasant variety. The first track impressed me with sounds that I didn't expect to hear from acoustic instruments (the brass in particular). The rest of the record was more standard big-band fare.

I genuinely do not like listening to this music but it’s not bad. I appreciate the artistry for sure though, and it reminds me of music from a Tom and Jerry cartoon lol. I read that one of the artists involved did the 60s Batman theme and that makes total sense

Big Band has never really been my thing, but there's some other jazz elements and fun things that kept my interest. Ultimately, I appreciate it more than I actually enjoy it

My co-judge commented that she could do without the punchy blasts from the brass section. I guess in the days before electrification that was the only way to blow everybody’s heads off. Listening to music on your home stereo could never compare to listening to it live. I like the solos throughout and especially the drumming. I guess in '58 the younger hip crowd was listening to bebop but I guess if you wanted to dance, big band was the way to go.

It's not often you can describe an album as foofy *and* splanky, but this is a rare example!

Nice Big Band arrangements, though my interest wanes as it goes on, relegating Basie to background music (a fate worse than death). Not a bad listen, but there are better big band albums out there.

Mjög skemmtileg plata.

Not too bad. Some good instrumental grooves.

Pretty jazzy, good for background music or to relax to.

Didn’t mind it. Big band and swing aren’t my wheelhouse at all, but I can appreciate the musicianship on display here.

Very well done with lots of instruments to enjoy. Nice diversity of styles between songs too. Even with that, I was a little over it by the end despite being a short album. The high energy songs were engaging but the couple of slower ones really killed the vibe for me. No vocals, obviously.

3, pleasant enough instrumental.

Music for a sexy lift.

Cool, Daddy-O.

Smoooooooooooooooth

This just rips. What a great album.

Rating: 6/10

Interesting and educational look at jazz

Good background music

Not a huge fan of the big band sound. I can appreciate it but don't necessarily enjoy it.

Pretty good album

Bin kein großer Freund des Big-Band-Sounds. Die Kompositionen und die Arrangements sind großartig.

Big band jazz is not my cuppa but you can clearly hear the talent in this album.

It was an easy listen. I am not sure I would wilfully listen to it again though.

I don't care much for jazz, but Count Basie is on another level. This album was easy to get through.

started ok but then found it repetative, im not the target audience

Probably the best jazz so far.

This album is a little earlier than my preferred period of Jazz but you can hear its role in being a bridge between the Jazz of the 30s/40s and what would come next. Interesting as a historical document but not one I would reach for on the shelf.

Not my bag really, but enjoyable, liked volare.

I was dreading this, and it was a bit too jazz-like for my tastes, but it was ok. Would I listen again voluntarily? No. Would I turn it off if it came on? Depends how far away the phone is…

Big band stuff

Exactly as advertised. But one of those jazz albums that's more a collection of songs than a cohesive album.

Outside my normal preferred genres, but pleasant to listen to. Nothing stuck out in particular.

Big band jazz makes me think of Hanna Barbara cartoons. I’m listening to this expecting the Jetsons or something. I could take it or leave it. I can tell there’s something more to it than usual big-band jazz, but I don’t have the jazz knowledge to identify it; I don’t know what to listen for. Favourite track: “Fantail”

re: the rascals fun 60s!! and weird stereo effects which is quite fun in this day and age... and this is fun jazz i suppose

Something of a surprise. I was expecting to have to bail but it kept me interested.

Pretty good, has a nice composition of instruments and got me hooked on a jazzy feeling the entire time

Not bad. Was vibing to it all day

Jazz, I like it but I also don’t know jazz that well so who knows could be amazing and I don’t realize it.

This album was pleasant to listen to

Nota:5/10

Reminds me of like half of all Fallout music is like.

Appreciated an intro to Count Basie - didn’t know about him - one of the greats in jazz and big band. The slow songs hit, esp ✨ After Supper 💘

Only 4 up tempo 'explosive' songs the rest was kinda basic ngl. I have a love for jazz but some of these were too simple laid back saloon songs. Good to improvise with

Not a huge Big Band fan, but this was cool.

I’m not sure I liked this as much as Cadence but it was a nice change of pace, good energy. I’m glad I was exposed to it.

I liked it

like an old film, or a fancy restaurant!

Fun jazz vibes

I was waiting for the Family Guy theme tune, but it never came. Was a nice listen though. I can imagine sitting in a cocktail bar listening to this.

Fun to have on. Big up the big band.

Quite fun. Will stick it on for bants every now and then

From a quick glance at the album cover I was initially expecting some nihilistic punk quartet. Probably as far from that as it’s possible to get. Quite enjoyed it, although it’s more at the Tom and Jerry soundtrack end of the jazz spectrum than I’d normally go for.

Not bad

Es ameno, pero nada mas

FT: Flight of the foo birds

like a Tom and Jerry soundtrack. But in a good way

A lot of jammers on this album. One of my favourites so far, def top three. Fav tracks is basically the entire album, def a honeymoon phase to it but I'm liking just the loud horns really.

based on the cover art and title I was hoping for some wild ass music. This album isn't bad, but nothing really jumped out at me.

Jazz eller rass?

Feels like fallout music. Cover and title really has the fallout feel to it i.e. the 'atomic', the 'E=MC^2', and the mushroom cloud in the cover background. Album was released right around cold war escalation as well, theme seems to make sense. Jazzy.

very fast paced groovy 50s dance music. loud and robust. overall enjoyable :) cool album cover also

Was a bit of fun, but wouldn't choose it

I liked it at first cause I grew up with it. Wore on me after a while. Legit part of it sounded like it came from the Flintstones’ theme song

Fav Song: Splanky

This was not what I expected it to be but it's quite good.

A solid bop that just makes me want to play Fallout 3, but nothing that blew my mind! I love the energy on the tracks, it was samey, but I can't look at it and say I didn't enjoy!

Definitely listened to it more in the background, but would love get all dressed up, make myself a quarantini and slow dance with myself to this on a rainy day

This sounds like both cartoon music, and the music played at a hollywood awards ceremony when a winner walks to the stage. I like the slower calmer tracks, but the more up tempo ones really make me want to tap dance. I can't tap dance so I don't why that particular thing, I'd like to slide along a sparkly lit up floor in my tap shoes.

Good jazzy vibes

I like it but a whole album of this stuff is a bit much for me.

Old school for 1958 but good background music.

after one listen - band/jazz is usually not my type of music, but somehow this is was what i needed right now. 3.5-4

Different but nice, good to garden to

50’er Swing/jazz band, indflydelsesrigt, afslappende, flydende

Fun stuff but I thought it got a little repetitive after awhile

1958. Key Songs: The Kid from Red Bank, Splanky

big band jazz isn't really my thing but this was pretty cool in spots, really dynamic and didn't bore the shit out of me. 3/5.

Not my cup of tea
