Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Mellow and contemplative.

Good for what it is, not something I would listen to again

Only 2 'songs'! I liked it, though I'm not sure I understand it all...

Miles Davis is a name you’ve heard many times before but have not necessarily listened to his music. Like me, you probably knew he played a saxophone...or was it a trumpet? And that he is also a jazz musician. I must admit I did not know anymore than this before listening to this album. My mind was even more curious after discovering there are only two tracks listed on the lp. I can say this though...without coming anywhere remotely close to being an aficionado of jazz or classic instrumental music, I certainly can appreciate the ability and dedication needed to play an instrument at such a level even an outsider and self confessed non-lover of the genre finds it more than enjoyable and even moving in an emotional sense. Do yourself a favour...if you haven’t already. 3 Stars

3/5 nice jazz sounds, but not special.

Va?! Helt ok, hade gett 3,5 men men

Jazzy but not a huge fan, very slow

some of these long tracks just make you lose track of time. not frenetic jazz like a few newer releases from Miles Davis.

nice jazz but the piano was a it too discordant which set me on edge so not a fully enjoyable listen for me

Fine for background listening but i can't give it more than a three tbh

Too mindful for me

Jazz. Simplemente agradable. Dos temas de 15 min cada uno.

Classy music to work by

Jazzy. Very moody

A true classic, I actually discovered this album through Bill Laswell's "Panthalassa" reworks. Then I went straight to the source. It brings back some memories of good old days.

dont know much about jazz but enjoyed this especially as background music while working

First impressions: A lot more organ and guitar than I've ever heard in a jazz album. Seemingly the beginnings of jazz "fusion". Not my favorite Miles Davis. His trumpet sounds harsher and can be downright annoying at times. Never felt this way in Kind of Blue.

I'm on board. An interesting listen that i will probably go back to.

2 long Jazz songs that made nice background music

2 songs 38 minutes? king behavior

Not bad. Would listen again if it was on.

I don't think I have the ability to appreciate jazz enough and listening to this I can begin to but I still struggle to find differences in this compared to other jazz. Hopefully I will get more jazz albums that I will be able to start learning more about jazz.

Totally fine. Kind of Blue is definitely a better Miles Davis album

First time I’ve actually listened to Miles Davis even though I’ve heard his name referenced for so long on the Simpson’s!

Intricate blend of bluesy piano, saxophone, and guitar create a wonderfully jazzy soundscape however music and sound a little frustrating at times.

Surprised when the album ended after two songs. Nice to listen to while working but wouldn't choose this over others.

Not my normal listening but quite enjoyed it.

It was good, but not what I look for in Jazz. Not super chill, and not super funky, so I don't know when would be the best time to listen to it.

I didn't like this album as much as kind of blue. Miles Davis is still one of the best when it comes to trumpet and cool jazz.

Ubeat/chill mix across both tracks, guitar-y for Miles Davis. Ironside incidental music. Good for Liverpool->Southport train. 6/10

lombrado ne dificil

Well jazz is definitely not my thing. I have no idea where to start even comprehending what I heard. I mean, it probably is technically pure genius and all that other jazz (LOL), but I'm just too incompetent to understand it.

Pleasant enough, didn’t make me angry or anxious which can sometimes happen with jazz.

Another jazz album that's correct background music.

The album is exactly what I think of when I hear 'Jazz'. In that regard, I think that is a good thing. On the other hand, it wasn't terribly exciting.

Jazz fusion, jazz with electric instrumentation and back beat. Good background music.

jazz not really my thing but this is quite intersting at times and easy to listen to

Silent and chill

Modern Jazz is just too exciting for me to really get into this. I respect the talent tho

Not a jazz fan, but ok for background noise.

I'm not a jazz fan, but I'm always willing to give it a play! IThis may be an important jazz album, but it leaves me a bit bored.

Perfectly fine for household chores listening.

Leider kein Vergleich mit Kind of Blue

This was only two tracks unlike the extended play which is awesome

I was really disappointed with this one. Kind of Blue is one of my favourites of all time, so I was really excited for this. I just found it kind of boring to be honest.

4/10 Clearly talented, clearly important, not my type of music.

Oh, it's just two long songs. And the music I started liking was after the album was over. At least it's better than Bitches Brew.

I'll be the first to admit I don't really know anything about Jazz. But I had listened to and enjoyed certain stuff, but this album didn't really make me feel anything. It never really seemed to get going, and as soon as I thought it was going too it changed back. Nothing bad, but nothing really memorable. 2.5* rounded to 2*

Not sure I have the taste level required to appreciate something like this. Felt like I was in the lobby bar of a very swish hotel from decades ago. Not entirely sure how it sets itself above anything else in this same genre. It wasn’t bad but it didn’t feel spectacular in any way. This may require a little more deep diving.

Interesting to listen to. Am I ever going to listen to it again? Nope. I just feel like this whole genre is set up to waste good talent under the pretence of 'improvisation'. Just feels like it could be better if they tried harder. I don't know what I'm talking about though.

Kinda weird but not bad. Solid 2.5

For a trumpet player, there wasn't a lot of trumpet on this album. More trumpet, less of everything else, please.

While I have been getting more into Jazz in recent years, I just can't get into Miles Davis. Maybe I'll come around eventually, but it's just not my thing.

Straingh.....

music for a late night club

Pretty easy listening. Preferred towards the end of the second track where it gets more interesting

I like the flow of this record but overall the sound itself isn’t my favorite. I really tried to like this more but it’s just not for me

What an album to sleep to holy moly

I really don't want to be someone who just rules albums out by genre immediately so I swear I try to listen to everything with an open mind. But jazz continues to be outside of my understanding. I enjoyed the first song for a little while from about 6 minutes in and I liked the first and last four minutes of the second song. But both are 20 minute long songs with big sections of what sounds to me to be unstructured freestyle saxophone that drove me a little mad so I'll probably never listen to the bits I did like again. Favourite song: In a Silent Way Least: Shhh / Peaceful

liked it better than a love supreme

Liked the trumpet parts and it surely is intriguing music if you like jazz. But apparently it was recorded on one day and I think to hear that fact.

Monotonous, i would have love some trumpet melody improvisation along all track.

i had a good time listening but like 10 minutes after the fact i couldn't recall a single individual moment from the entire record. if i got strapped to a clockwork orange machine and forced to just listen and not think about anything else as i stared through unblinking eyes at a bass visualizer for about 40 minutes, i would probably walk away thinking "this is good and cool and important" but as it is im just not that guy. my favorite song was technically It's About That Time

3.4/10

jazz sounds

Pas fan de Miles Davis

v chill. would be fun to see as a live performance!

no issues with this really, just not for me

I like a bit of Miles, and this was pushing boundaries - lots of electric guitar, electric piano and drums that borrow a little from the rock world. Unfortunately the pieces sound like improvised noodling with little musical structure to my untrained ears, "like a goat shitting into a tin bucket" as an old lady once said in response to hearing experimental jazz. I wouldn't listen to this actively again, but it's pleasant background listening.

I appreciate that Miles Davis is regarded as a genius, but Jazz is about the only genre I can’t ever relate to.

Sleepy

Unlike most jazz this actually had a few redeeming qualities, mainly a tight band that could probably do some cool stuff in other contexts. Still no actualy songs, though; just noodling, which has interesting bits intermittently.

Chill jazz. Neither good nor bad. I'm not really into instrumental jazz. Cool album cover though.

Not bad but confirm that jazz is not really my thing. I can see why people like it though.

I can really see what this album is going for, and I can understand the appeal of jazz. However, it really isn't for me. The musicians are all very talented, but it just meanders and wanders about for 40 minutes without ever feeling like it's going anywhere.

Yeah this is really not my vibe at all. I appreciate the talent needed to make this music, but no thanks. Never liked trombones much.

Clearly this isn't for me

This is the type of jazz that turns the average listener away from this genre. Unfortunately, this is not the album a beginner wants to listen to.

I can appreciate how Miles Davis is different to Hugh Masekla or Duke Ellington. I can appreciate how THIS Miles Davis album is very different to 'A Kind of Blue' or 'Collector's Items'. But the issue for me is that, even though I can differentiate between these different styles and types, none of the different types stands out to me as better or more unique than another. I enjoyed the dreamy intro to 'In a Silent Way' and I enjoyed the tippy tapping of the drums in 'Shhh / Peaceful'. But I can't seem to find what makes jazz enthusiasts love the genre so much. (2.000)

38 minutes squished into two songs. Okay jazz, I've heard better. I liked the start of ‘In a silent way’, and I wished it was its own song that I could listen to, but then it transitions to jazz again, I like the ending as well

I didn’t like this album

It mostly just felt like noodling for 40 minutes. There were a few moments of brilliance but a lot of it was over my head. It wasn't unpleasant but it didn't blow me away.

Not a really fan of jazz.

Acogedor.

Missed it

It’s not a bad album just not what I typically enjoy

I’m sure I would’ve have listened to this if it weren’t for this project. It was good to have on as background music while doing stuff in my house. I could see maybe having this on while, but it might be too loud/distracting for that. Rating: 2/5

Nice background music 2/5

Johnny hates jazz. I don't like it much either, but I appreciated the underlying repetitive nature of this and not the improv jazz that just goes off on one with no rhythm. Early jazz trance music? If you squint a lot maybe.

I didn't really know I was supposed to feel or take away from this. It was happening, then it wasn't. I think the structure-less meandering doesn't really chime with me unfortunately. It felt like the different instruments were just playing whatever they felt like. I see this was the studio album before Bitches Brew which I didn't really like either, much prefer Kind of Blue and Round About Midnight from him

I was enjoying the journey and then fell asleep (in a relaxed way not a bored way)

Slightly different than I was expecting, I thought it was going to be pure blues/soul jazz but it’s quite mystical, and kind of tells a story. The music may be from some film or tv program I’ve watched, I’m thinking of Louis Theroux documentary for some reason.

1/3. I just can’t get into this kind of jazz. Little to no dynamics, the same brush drums in the back the entire time, it just sounds like meandering to me. The inclusion of the Hammond is cool I guess, but not in the way they play it here. Just a bore.

not my favourite jazz project

OK, nothing too great.

Sonically this was a stellar listen, but with a lot of instrumental records the replayability just isn’t there for me.

Dull but not unpleasant

Good quality, but not my cup off tea

Day768 - well i wasn’t expecting a two song album. if there’s a quota on the high-hat i believe we’ve reached it

I can't really handle how discordant the keys are through this album. I can't feel its rhythm and it feels like it's adding friction for the hell of it -- never do I feel any resolution with its presence. The album would be better off without it.

super good but.. very long and I like words in my songs

Obviously greatness but just doesn’t make a good album

Not really into such genre, so, good for some parties I guess

Sounds like a forty minutes of warm-up trumpet drills. Okay for background ambient music, but mid otherwise.

Don't love it.

A bit meandering for me sadly. Didn’t grab my attention much.

i know he is a genius in his field, but this music is not for me.

Not for me

I’m not a jazz fan so I only listened to the first three songs. I will say, if I were a jazz fan, this would be five stars. Given my somewhat dislike for jazz though, I cannot give it that rating.

Not my jam

I'm not really a jazz fan, so this doesn't exactly get tremendously high marks from me. However, I will say that I truly do appreciate the talent it takes to play like this. I have band experience, and, as someone who has heard bad horns and good horns, this was good. It just isn't for me, unfortunately. If you like jazz, however, you will LOVE this!

Too much jazz noodling for me.

Sigh. I wanted to love this, but Jazz is not so much my thing

Okay. It's a musically interesting album. Feels like Davis just took a few (very talented) studio musicians and improvised. There is an underlying consistent movement that is played throughout the album. But, the album is only 2 15ish minute songs. The underlying movement doesn't go anywhere. It's just the 1 for the entire song. Repeated. Over and over. The musicians improvise a few embellishments into repeated melodies. It's good, and shows off their individual talents, but there is little cohesion. It's not a masterpiece.

Fine enough but I'm just not a fan of the 20 min ethereal jams

it’s okay kinda like annoying didn’t really strike me

Not his best by a long shot.

Background music. Cool to finally listen to someone I always see in the record stores. Not a record I'd buy

As Paul McCartney said, you can't both sing and play the trumpet at the same time I liked the first side/song/whatever more than the second, nice for on the background but that's about it.

not for me, but cool af 🔥

solid album, but just not really my thing

im sure this is a phenomenal jazz album, but 40 minutes of no lyrics is not for me.

2 songs, 38 minutes. It starts off okay, but after a while I start to lose my interest in the music. I think I would appreciate it more if I had seen it as a live performance and could watch the musicians jam away. This is just not my type of music, I guess.

OK for ambient music but not my type

More random noodling

Christ talk about pretentious, two 20 minute songs, fan of the drum in the first song but oh my god it is just the same shit with a trumpet taped on when Davis feels like it

“in a silent way” magari

I wanted to scream when i got this. Samw artist as the first one. This one was an easier listen, but still not my cup of tea.

Only 2 songs?? Hello? Definitely dissonant and odd. Feels like going through a worm hole at first.

It’s Miles Davis…

Better than Kind of Blues, liked the swing of it and this kind of jazz was nice.

not that interesting tbh

* fave song - in a silent way * the end of the song in a silent way was quite beautiful, but honestly i zoned out listening to the two songs. it got a little redundant at points. not really my thing but wasn’t the worst listen in the world.

I’m not a jazz fan and so I can’t judge this on any real level of expertise, but shockingly I couldn’t get into this. I quite like instrumentals, but nothing here grabbed me

- very repetitive elements (give me a headache) - also very long songs - usually love miles davis but this album isn‘t for me - ranking: 4/10, it gets tiring and annoying after a while

Was surprised to see that it was only two songs but it is over 30 minutes, so i guess it's an album. I like Jazz but I prefer something more lively. It was hard for me stay focused, especially cause it ranges around 16 mins per song.

I generally like jazz but I think I prefer the really old jazz or the more modern jazz and not really this in between stuff. I do like that he’s using electric elements but the way some parts are composed it is taking away from true melancholy while lacking bass and rhythm to lean into the more fun direction. It’s nice, calm background music but I can’t see myself actively listening to it.

Not the worst thing I’ve ever heard but still not my style. Never been able to really get behind jazz. I’m not saying it’s bad music, I just don’t find anything to grasp on to because there are no words.

I like jazz music but there wasn't much too this one, pleasant and added a certain vibe to my pasta cooking, but not much more than that. 49/100 Score edited 28/01/26

It's jazz. I suppose it could be interesting, but I just don't really care for it. Miles Davis is undoubtedly one of the greats and I can appreciate this from a technical perspective but I would never choose to put it on. Although was good background studying music.

A short list of things I'm not going to waste my time on: 1. 20 minute jazz songs. I'm sure it's great though..

If I liked jazz, I'm sure I would appreciate this album more but sadly, I didn't like it too much. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere and it just didn't, for me it was 40 minutes of nothing.

Really intimidating for me, didn’t really get along with it. Might revisit this but for now I think it will remain, as most jazz does for me, a bit of an uncrackable mystery. Is it just too ambient for my taste?

Very ambient

I never listen to jazz but it was alright. Not a huge fan and I don't think I'll litsen to it again.

This is not Miles' fault, I just really hate this kind of music.

Not my thing. 2/5

This is incoherent

Not bad compared to the other Miles albums. I much prefer this "electrified" approach. Some mellow jazzy guitar and drum supported Davis on lead trumpet fairly well. I can see this making the list for the outrage it caused the purists. Sort of like Dylan introducing electric guitar in folk or Lil Nas X rap singing country. I am still not fully in with the works from this Prince of Darkness and much prefer the one who works on the Sabbath. Like the effort here though on branching out and away for the boring, standard jazz so 2.15 stars.

I like other Mile Davis Songs/Albums, that's why I'm surprised I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. The trumpet is lovely though and I like the bass line in the middle and end of In a silent way. Felt more like a 2/5 at first (tho it is more like a 2,5 but not quite a 3/5), but the trumpet and bass line, as well as the atmosphere at the end safed it to a 3. I might have a more positive view, when I revisit.

#765. Jazz 2/5: jazz

The musical prelude to the first two songs go on for...checks notes...the entire album.

Ok so Miles Davis and all. Still not something I would listen to on the regular. 2/5

Didn’t do much for me

In 2000 film Gladiator, Maximus asks the question: "Are you not entertained?" After listening to this album, my answer is "No." I'm not a huge jazz fan anyway, and I just found this aimless, meandering and pretty dull. I would probably enjoy watching this if it was at a gig, and the musicians were just jamming, but as an album, I can do without it.

Because of this album I had a dream where every time I tried to speak it sounded like a trumpet. My brain seemed to think this was a terrifying thought because it was set like a nightmare. Does this mean I have a deep set fear of being misunderstood? Do I have a lazy brain when it comes to creating nightmares? Or is this a recreation of a cartoon from my childhood that I feel like I can almost remember? I'm not sure. But because of it I don't feel like I can rate it super high, but I couldn't quite tell you why

Jazz music gives me nightmares

It was ok. Maybe ai wasn't in the mood to appreciate the jazz styling.... but it didn't really hit me, ya know?

Best Track - N/A

It seems like they bought 40 minutes in the studio. When finished said, just make it 2 songs. Fine background music but doesn’t do anything for me .

Undoubtedly an unreal album if you like jazz but it’s not for me

I guess this was decent; jazz is just not my thing….

There is a great quote attributed to Miles Davis. When asked for his thoughts on critics, he replied: "If I don't like what they're saying, I just get in my Ferrari and drive away." Excellent line. Very funny. So true. Two stars. I did not think much of this record. There is a fair bit of ambient noodling. Fine, very nice. There are textures to be enjoyed here for however long you can stand to just sit and look around a pleasant room. A bigger problem is that in the second half it invites you to pay attention by laying out a fairly conventional riff (the section called ‘It’s about that time’) which is, in my opinion, naff. I am not one to make bald accusations of that sort against one of the Great Men of Twentieth-Century Music but that riff is like something Des O’Connor would dander on stage to, except that version would swing and it wouldn’t take Des 10 minutes to do it. Shite. 1.5/5

I think I'm just not into jazz

Sorry but this is not your best work Mr Davis.

2 songs. 2 very long songs.

Jazz - Yet again, I recognize the cultural importance but man I cannot get into jazz

Ok music to listen to when eating a goose

The album cover really made me think there was going to be more to this

I love miles earlier stuff with his quintet but I was not a fan of this one. It’s just music nothing particularly special about it to me.

This album was alright, pretty groovy but not my favorite

Wow, I didn’t like this at all.

Yeah im still no jazz guy

It's ok. Heard better from him. Didn't quite do it for me.

The ADHD boss battle of jazz. And I lost, abysmally. 🎺💀

I almost listened to this twice.

I recognize the instruments sound beautiful but honestly I couldn't listen to it completely. It is not the style of music I listen to daily but I appreciate the discovery.

I'm not really into Jazz

Too long and meandering for me….but that’s jazz I guess!

non mi convince la pronuncia

That's jazz baby. I don't really know how to talk about this kind of music. All I can say is that it was not really my cup of tea (a little too slow to hold my attention) but not actively bad

Different, 2 long songs stood out to me. Interesting, not the biggest jazz guy but it was good background music.

I’ve been really hit or miss with Jazz albums throughout this. My previous Miles Davis album, Birth of the Cool, I loved and gave it 5 stars. This one however I really struggled with. At some points I was really enjoying it, other times I hated it. Part of it might be listening to it in work. I will come back to it someday when I’ve listened to it in a more chilled setting.

I liked the first bit and got tired of it.

Well Yeah it's Jazz

Jazz: Strike one. Horn Jazz: Strike two. Instrumental music: Strike three.

Not my music.

I hate Bitches Brew and this sounded like Prelude to Bitches Brew. I hate Bitches Brew so much that I think I may have Bitches Brew-related PTSD, and so hearing how similar this was to Bitches Brew triggered me something fierce. I am sorry to those that like this kind of thing, but I very much do not.

Maybe I primed myself to dislike it, but what else am I supposed to feel when seeing 2 tracks (technically 3) at 38 minutes? I liked the fusion elements of some electric sounds layered in with the group, but for me, this style of Jazz featuring trumpet runs facing background repetition blurs together into a largely uninteresting 18-20 minute sludge.

cool but not really my thing 2/5

Jazz Fusion. Only two tracks for 38 mins of run time. A hugely influential and controversial album on the Jazz scene. Jazz is hit or miss for me. Some albums are cool. The rest aren't. I don't know what to do with this one though. An oddity.

A little bit too ambient for me. Respect the creativity at work here but probably won’t be back. It had a good vibe though 2.5

I don’t understand jazz. I don’t know what makes it innovative, or controversial, but I know Miles Davis is an accomplished musician. To my ears this was just 38 minutes of noodling guitar and gently brushed percussion, and a bit of trumpet. It is audibly not just cobbled together nonsense, and parts of it reminded of the fade out of the Doors’ Riders on the Storm, but ultimately I just didn’t like it.

I know I should probably praise this to all high heaven……but jazz is not my thing.

This is the same to me as people that look at a couple of lines, squiggles and some paint thrown at a canvas and call it captivating art. I don't get it. I understand individually, anyone that can play an instrument even halfway decent, is an accomplishment unto itself. When those musicians get together and make free form jazz, it just sounds like noise. Personally, Miles oozed the cool and seemed like a polarizing figure. Musically though it just doesn't translate for me. I don't want to shit on it but it's just.......not good

Was hoping that I would enjoy this but I just didn't get it. Just sounded like endless formless noodling. Fairly pleasant to listen to but nothing I could really grab hold of. It illustrates my lack of connection perfectly that when the album ended and Tidal automatically ran onto some Jazz by John Coltrane, I didn't even realise the album had finished let alone that I now was listening to a completely different track and artist. Genuinely all sounded like nondescript Jazz noises to me.

Experimental, electronic Freeform pieces put together often linked with sizzle of hi-hat.

Self medicated beforehand which I think led to a little bit more enjoyment from my end. First song was challenging to follow along due to the lack of structure. Couldn't really find any particular element that really took the lead anywhere. It felt like a composition that didn't really have a backbone. Second song got better halfway through with more structure until it kinda faded away. Didn't hate, definitely didn't love. Definitely won't listen again. Decent 2/5

well what can i say? it’s a two track jazz album, i know i’m physically incapable of enjoying this and i was right. some ups and downs but by the minute 20 i was so bored that started cleaning my bathroom

I can appreciate the musicians behind this, the horn playing is amazing. But, I don't rent listening to this.

I get if you’re a jazz fan, this is great. For me, it was passable background music

As everyone else has said - reminds me of wait music.

It feels really kind of samey throughout the whole of the first 18 minute track. I guess there's some nice themes running throughout? Kind of? But there's really very little to grasp onto. The second track is so fucking boring. And why is the recording so bad? There's so much background hiss. I get that it's hardly a studio session, but still. This is a generous 2/5.

Originally not interested in listening to this record - not quite in the jazz mood. Then I decided to give it a quick listen. Got 2:40 minutes in and said no. Not my jam. at least for today.

I would have preferred silence

Jazzy Elevator music Good if you wanna fall asleep +3 Very short listen time -1

Ahhhh, here we are again, another inclusion predicated on historical context I'm sure. Easy-listening jazz fusion album, perfect as a substrate for whatever might occupy you in the present moment. This greased the wheels nicely for me to get some coding done for my day job. Beyond that, I'll have to refer to the critics to understand why this stands out within the mid-century jazz milieu. I don't know what makes this exceptional. 5/10 -> 3/5. =========== I'm dropping my rating after reading the critic's take. It amounts to "you had to be a jazz stan 60 years ago, you had to listen to 'Kind of Blue' in a specific manner, and you had to understand Davis' bravery in experimentation". My response: this album's exceptionalism has since been lost to the sands of time, and the evolution of jazz itself. Do I disagree that Davis broke new ground? Absolutely not. Do I expect the albums on this list to speak for themselves? You bet your ass. Over half a century later, it sounds original, sure, but that's like, jazz, man! In retrospect, it just doesn't sound innovative. This album is fine. To a blind listener, it doesn't belong here. 2/5.

Still not a fan of this kind of jazz.

Horn jazz simply is not for me. Maybe I need to throw more high class dinner parties or something.

I found it hard to get into as not much of a tune. Maybe if I listened to it more to you'd start to recognise the tune, but most of it I just found myself glazing over. Second tune was better than first.

I feel like a plebeian for not getting into jazz more. These two tracks sound like I'm in a smoky bar sipping scotch.

Well, the clues in the title. Not great keeping music so quiet.

Jazz like this always just feels like background music to me. I forget it's even playing.

Great, more jazz. More people should put out 2 song albums, just not Jazz albums.

Just not my style

Not a fan of jazz, but this record had a few genuinely enjoyable moments

I'm not a fan of Jazz, found it quite overwhelming to be honest

I just can't get into jazz. It's fine in the background, but otherwise it's just irritating.

I always enjoy Miles Davis much more than many of the other jazz artists I get.

Jazz, sad second song

This was okay. Nice to have it just playing in the background. Felt like not much was going on, was just building up to something and never reached the peak.

I know this is highly regarded, but I just cannot get into jazz.

2- Stars (4/15)

Meh - a jazz album that I didn’t turn off but can’t say I really enjoyed it it will ever listen to again

Sorry but I just don't get Miles

In 2001, Columbia Legacy and Sony Music released the three-disc box set The Complete In a Silent Way Sessions, which includes additional tracks. additional tracks? that's not hard when the original record only has 2 tracks! 2 tracks 2 stars, reading the reviews people are desperate to "get this", there's no need.

Cant get into jazz. Just cant. One long song

Kinda boring tbph

In a break from tradition I won’t be giving this jazz album a 1. I have to respect a man who can be at the top of his profession for his chosen instrument, and a very dull one-dimensional instrument at that. This was listenable and in places a recognisable song almost broke out. It was much more easy listening (I hate that genre/term) but it meant I was able to complete the whole listening experience without wanting to punch a wall.

5/10 This was heavily on the fusion side of jazz fusion - very rock influenced. Not bad, just not great. Really well played, good music but more of an ambient listen than one full of melody and ear worms. Could see this as a soundtrack in an indie film. Can recognise this sound in post-rock music like Tortoise Best: there were only 2 tracks! The first one I guess

Beautiful but boring. I like lyrics.

A little too silent for me.

Musically it's good but not for me

This is indeed jazz

song:shhh/peaceful i kind of like this song it would be good for putting someone on hold and i hate when i just hear my mom waiting for someone on the phone and the same song keeps playing and playing Song: In a silent way i love this song it is very calm and it makes you sleepy and relaxed so i recommend this one but at the end it kind of gets creepy and off pitched just a tiny bit

I don't like this song because it lacks words. It's too peaceful. Maybe I would recommend it only to people who like music without words and jazz. I don't like this song because it's very silent and has no words

Shhh peacful: in my onpinion i dont like it becuase it only jazz and i wish there was lyrics so it could be better it a good song to make you feel calm at parties or dancing If you like jazz this maybe the song for you becuase it has jazzbut no lyrics to cover the sound of the instruments like the drumpet its pretty fast and relaxing empressive for jazz. In a silent way: this song in so calm i think it could even make you sleep peacefuly becuase it has slow jazz and theres no loud bang or anything

Minus 3 stars because I'm a philistine

I still don't get it. Maybe one day I will, but I was bored, bored, bored by this.

I feel bad giving this a low score, but it just didn't do much for me. It's About That Time gets a 4 though

I tried to listen to this while working and it stressed me out too much.

I already knew I was not the type of person who appreciates jazz, but this one was less enjoyable than maybe all the other jazz albums on this list. It largely sounded like elevator music to me, with only brief forays into something interesting. A real shame since I was taught by "Billy Madison" that Miles Davis is the coolest person ever. 1.7

I know Miles Davis has some really influential work. This felt like background music. Surely there are other jazz albums one “must hear” out there.

I really hate to say this but I don't get the hype. Unlike that other jazz album I got this just seemed like a whole bunch of doing a lot without any purpose. It was pretty peaceful though, good to do homework to. Fav Songs: Shh/Peaceful

Para pensar o para recordar.

It was nice. Sometimes this album generator weirdly syncs with what I need in my life at a particular moment. This oddly came the day before Christmas, leaving a 14 hour retail management job and all the chaos that entails. It was just a nice sense of peace to drive home to.

Just not my cup of tea…

jazzy but nothing more to it

Sounds like the soundtrack to a movie. It's not interesting enough without the movie.

Not as unlistenable as Miles Davis albums I've previously encountered in this 1001. It felt like a soundtrack to a noir detective TV show from the 70s. I felt I should be driving round some rain soaked nighttime streets, chain smoking, giving a running monologue to the rearviewmirror.

Nur zwei Titel. Interessant.

There are parts I liked, and parts I didn't like. Not sure how else to expand on it beyond that.

Like the soundtrack to an early 70s crime drama. 2

not my cup of tea

Again, I'm not cool enough for Miles Davis. 2/5

This was much better than previous miles davis album I got, but it was still meh

Not my cup of tea, but I can see the value and artistry in this album

Obviously the playing is impressive but I’m not a musician and so there’s nothing to hang onto for a layman

Why all the waiting for something to happen? 13 minutes into the second song, the album has it's climax but it's gone before you really get a release. Then just more waiting.

the former jazz band kid in me has to give this at least a 2. i didn't like it and again i'm trying to stay ALIVE AWAKE ALERT ENTHUSIASTIC while working. this made me feel like i was in dreamland. pretty cool he recorded it all in one day! but i can say that i'll probably never listen to this again until maybe my mid life crisis when i rediscover my love for jazz or something like that. i like 'in a silent way' better than the first song fs! daily dad update: no response, he must not like jazz

Funky jazz vibes. Not something I would choose to listen to but I can understand why people might like this

I don’t understand jazz I guess. It’s fine. I’m sure in a historical context I would be more impressed. It’s not as jarring as other jazz I’ve listened to. Not my jam.

Listen to this made me feel anxious. Clearly not the right headspace for me for this album on this day.

I keep hoping this album will be better, but each time I hear it I'm disappointed.

It’s jazz alright

Previously rated: Birth of the Cool (3/5) Kind of Blue (3/5) Bitches Brew (3/5) ************************ Side A doesn't really go anywhere. Side B is just kind of boring.

A lot of jazzy elevator music vibes, but in a good way. Not huge into instrumental only albums so this didn’t hold my attention much. There were some stand out moments towards the end of the album where the feel changes a lot. This is a nice background music album but I probably wouldn’t search it out again.

Second miles Davis album inside of a week, I just can't seem to enjoy his music. Low 2.

The trumpet was nice but the music was not for me.
