Reviews (page 11 of 14)

It was fine I guess. Maybe this just isn't my cup of tea. More of a Maynard Ferguson trumpet guy.

The second track is miles ahead of the first track, so it averages out to be pretty meh

3.5. Great Sunday jam album

Solo me han gustado dos canciones

Pretty good improv-y album with a nice mix in moods. Pleasant listen but nothing too spectacular of note.

A true pioneer of the jazz scene. Enjoyed it from start to finish so will be delving through his other stuff. 3.5/5

Only listened once, still a nice album though

Was ok, very slow and only really showed off Miles Davis, no real technical input from the other players

I feel like the situation I listened to this in hurt my opinion of it. I generally listen to these albums during my morning workout and jazz just doesn’t do it for me in that context. Was a solid jazz album but would like to listen again.

It’s good, but jazz isn’t my jam.

Very listenable. More predictable than jazz and prog rock, more soothing and not dizzying to the brain

Jazzy, moody, but not particularly my favorite.

Not groovy but peaceful.

Chill.

The composition is good. Nice and easy to listen to and there's no doubt Miles Davis is a talented composer/musician. However, would I say someone needs to hear it before he/she dies? Nah.

Not my tempo

Godkjent

2 track album. Track 1 was OK, track 2 was great

Some good moments in this album, and an incredibly striking cover

Not really my style but I can appreciate the music!

Really liked this! Especially side 2

Godkjent

A tough one to mark. So clearly absolutely exceptional musicianship, but with just two tracks, it's a shame that the first one is a bit of a miss. The second, however, really showcases the range and skill of Davis and his band. What I found, I think, most interesting, was the intersection between this and mainstream pop of the period. It's clear that he exists in that world, even if it's translated to jazz. And actually, at around 12 mins into the title track, you realise the influence he had. There's a point where you swear he's inventing shoegaze, and also some of the chord progressions are wholly nicked by Pink Floyd in their Wish You Were Here era. Not my thing, not always an easy listen, but mightily impressive nonetheless.

I can find nothing "wrong" with this, it's certainly masterfully laid down. I guess I just don't see the purpose. Why go to the trouble? What's the point? "Art doesn't NEED a point, it is because it IS!" Yeah, ok. Wake me up if I doze off.

Not my favorite, but didn’t dislike. Relatively concise

Enjoyable listen, but not one that had melodies that will stick with me the way some of his other works do.

It’s ok. He’s out there

Cool. 3.5/5

Not my favorite genre but mellow and relaxing!

Good album. Not his worst, not his best.

Gentle jazz. Jazzy. Jazz gentille.

I'm not a huge jazz fan, but it's objectively good, would be better if I was high, 4/5

not my thing, but i suppose one of the best jazz albums ever

Dreaded it when it came up but actually enjoyed it.

I'm not clever enough to really get this - it's all a bit over my head. Perfectly pleasant and I wouldn't run screaming if it came up on a suggested playlist. But it's not really my thing.

i saw that it had two songs and i was like oh cool short and then i saw they're almost 20 MINUTES EACH . pink floyd cld never. very nice for studying 3/5

Fun jazzy

2 DE 5 Album medio viajero instrumental, sonidos nocturnos atmosfera de suspenso

Got really funky 13 minutes into in a silent way. This type of music is not really my go-to- im definitely someone who seeks out music with lyrics. Might have to get high and give this a listen again.

Good background type music. I think if I was actively listening I would still enjoy it but i dont got time for that

Not that into jazz, and only two songs?

I have a thing that I don't like when i listen to really long instrumentals, it's not that I hate it, I just don't like it completely and this album Is bassically just pure instrumental jazz. I won't say that it's bad, 'cause you can listen to the experimentation here and it's kind of nice, but i felt like I was stuck in an elevator for 35 minutes.

I mean its okay. Jazz just kind of blends together for me after awhile. Miles is a legend but I just dont have an ear for the genre I guess

I don't get it. Sounds like mindless, drug-aided noodling, although it's very pleasant.

Easy listening, background jazz. Not how Miles would like you to listen, but inevitably where I ended up. Still solid

Mooolto relax

jazz is not really my style, but it was easy listening

40 minute sound explorations are not my favorite kind of jazz. That being said, it is still a Miles Davis record so it doesn't get a 2. That'd be disrespectful. Could of saved room for some Grant Green or Herbie Hancock's Fat Albert Rotunda.

I liked it, it had a feeling like you were at a busy small shop in the corner of a town ✨

Not my kind of music.

Horny horn business! I don't think I like jazz as much as I used to and really I didn't really like it much back then! Wow, two songs in just under 40 minutes? I like the organ at the beginning. Here comes the horn!

Ambient and chill. I found ‘Shhh / Peaceful’ to be a little too much like elevator music, but quite enjoyed build up on ‘In a Silent Way’.

Was surprised how long each song was of the 2 song album. It’s not my typical taste but I did enjoy the music.

Example of Miles Davis dipping his toes into Jazz Fusion - jazz meets rock n roll.

I can easily imagine listening to this on vinyl surrounded by lingering cigarette smoke and shag carpet while reading. Cool vibes, smooth sounds and awesome how meandering musicians come together to make something, but I still don't like jazz and I won't listen to this again. Definition of background music. 3/5

Was good background music for walking Winston in the morning.

good to listen to

Overall, I liked it. Nothing was really jumping out at me about it, but I enjoyed listening to the whole thing. I did like the second track "In A Silent Way" better than the first.

I don't know about this one. I mean, it's good, but not really my cup of tea.

I don't know why the first track is called "Shhh / Peaceful". Mr Davis I am nowhere near at peace listening to this.

I’m sure the musicianship is outstanding, and beyond anything I can comprehend, but honestly Jazz is just not for me

Experimental jazz is impressive but still not something I enjoy listening to.

I started trying to be an analytical listener. But quickly realized that was the wrong energy for this album. Once I was able to just kinda fall into the groove it was a fun listen. Although it felt like very little actual trumpet playing went down.

Not bad, but not my favorite Miles.

Musical representation of ADHD.

Its ok, was never a fan of this kind of music.

Electric guitar, keyboard, horn, bass. Meandering stuff, Doorsy sometimes, good background stuff

Nice, relaxing instrumental album, with a great depth of different instruments, tones, rhythm, etc. A good album to play when doing things such as revision, artwork, music, etc. Clearly a huge amount of detail put into it. The album would of rated higher if there where a bit of vocals, but tbh i dont think singing would of really fitted in with this track, but it's overall a pretty perfect instrumental album.

What the hell was that.

I wanted to love this but it just didn’t grab me. I wasn’t really in the headspace to enjoy something this drowsy and aimless. I enjoyed the other Miles Davis we got a lot better, I think I prefer my jazz at a higher energy level.

Expected Lorenzo rating: 4

Known before: Yes Standouts: In a Silent Way 6/10

Known before: No Standouts: / Rating: 5.0

Not big fan of jazz. Probably a great album.

I don’t really listen to jazz, but I can say I genuinely enjoyed the sound of this album. For me, it’s music that evokes a certain mood. I could just listen and think, or listen and daydream, or clean, or have a conversation with it in the background. It’s very abstract and spacey sounding, but put me in a good head space.

Good jazz but not something I would listen to often if I'm honest.

So I listened to this when I was at work. It was catchy, and classic. It reminded me of some of he earlier works that I was exposed to when I took a class titled "The History of American Jazz" in the early 90's. Realistically this is not my genre of music....but this album was interesting to get through. 3

My least favorite of the Miles Davis projects on the list, but wow, it’s still so good.

You like jazz? 🐝

Duality of albums like that - first part is almost impossible for me to digest. Different instruments playing their own songs all at the same time, with some overarching melody from Miles. Very hard song to get through. Second song starts the same, but after some time all parts come together and they finally sound like one band. Miles is really amazing in the second part, and the background actually is very good on its own too. This album won't turn me into jazz addict, or even a casual fan, but it's a nice stepping stone. Let's give it another 10 years, maybe mu musical taste will be more sophisticated then.

Very good album. I didn't add anything just because the structure has the songs at 17+ minutes. Would probably go back and listen again. 3.75/5

The perfect soundtrack to a French B movie. Cool, laid back and smooth.

Solid jazz. Was great to do work and play chess to. Don’t think I would listen to it by itself.

“If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis.” Sorry Miles, just not that into instrumental music.

I appreciate the craft. Jazz - jazz is weird

I like jazz. I like beautiful melodies portrayed over rich harmonies, the freedom of the musicians in their expression, and the synergy between band members seems to be unique to the improvisational style. When jazz becomes more long, rambling streams of consciousness with so many threads simultaneously and sequentially that grasping any of them becomes a challenging feat, I begin to enjoy the experience far less. I appreciate this album for its atmospheric feel and its influence on the use of electric instruments, however I can not say with honesty that this is the style of jazz that I would choose to listen to for pleasure.

Simply not for me

I'm not that into jazz.

Lovely music to relax. 3/5

Both songs on the album are a jam all throughout. The instrumentals are very groovy and well done. While there is definitely talent behind the album, I have to say I found myself bored at several points of listening. I wouldn't say all songs should be capped at a shorter time, but this is one of the examples where it felt like sort of an eternity of listening to something very monotonic.

Love Miles Davis, even love his newer stuff, but this was a mid album. Not a ton to really react to, a little dull.

Very nice. A form of jazz I could listen to again. I've struggle with the wild abstract jazz, but this style was calming. Songs were long, but didn't feel like they dragged.

Just not my taste

Not my cup of tea, kinda appreciate it, but it seems to throw noises in that it knows will annoy me, and I don't know why it wants to do that to me. I'm too tired for that shit. ranked up a bit because there were some really satisfying bits where randomness kind of melded together to reach melody. I'd rather not listen to it again though.

Very experimental and great. Not so great as kind of Blue

Interesting ideas. Probably too much experimental for my taste but revolutionary for the time Quite good for studying even though some lines are quite catchy especially the title track from the album "in a silent way" which an incredible riff and excellent musician chemistry

Funky jazz that was quite discordant yet still relaxing

Jazz with a capital J. Not my favorite, but can appreciate it for what it is.

Improv jazz is always fun to listen, but it does not excite me

Great jazz and blues

Not a bad listen; glad I listened to it but I don't think I'll ever listen to it again.

1e. Leuk want onbekend. Niet echt in de juiste bui ervoor. Einde wel verrassend.

Amazing jazz album but not for me.

Very listenable, but I'm just not a big fan of jazz.

1e. Leuk want onbekend. Niet echt in de juiste bui ervoor. Einde wel verrassend.

I’m not really the jazziest girl around, I like lyrics so I’ll have to stick with a 3 knowing it’s probably a 4. In a silent way >>>>> shh peaceful

Very very peaceful and nice to listen to, reminded me of a cool and breezy summer night. I liked shh/peaceful more than in a silent way but both were quite interesting. i was never a jazz girly but this was pretty chill and i'd probably listen to this to do homework or just sit and have thoughts

Miles Davis has never been my thing.

Pretty cool but not my favourite

3. Enjoyable in the background while doing other things, but not something I would pick for myself if it wasn't for this challenge.

I recognize the genius that is Miles Davis, but compared to his earlier records, I'm not a huge fan of this one.

Decent background music, but nothing I would sit and listen to on purpose.

It was ok

Chilled

Pretty good. Nice background music. Might listen again.

Two Song album that is rather enjoyable.

Am I a bad person for not getting it? I'm can just feel someone in a velvet jacket with an impeccably waxed 'stashe and a jaunty Gitanes hanging out the of corner of his mouth calling me an "uncouth clod". Yes, they're talented. Yes, it's a pleasant enough sound. But where are the feels?

I love Miles Davis but I'm more of a Birth of The Cool guy than this style.

Enjoyed this one.

Have never been interested in fusion jazz. My History of Jazz professor tried his best to get me into it years ago but it just wasn’t my thing. Have always loved Miles Davis’ early work and I didn’t not like this record. It just wasn’t my favorite. “In a Silent Way” was the better of the two tracks. It was nice to listen to while I read.

Didn’t really have an effect on me but no complaints.

Not a jazz fan. Don't know if this is great or just average. Someone else can decide, but won't be listening again.

Side B/Title track is worth another listen. This is just ok compared to some of his more celebrated works

I liked it even though this is not my favorite type of jazz music.

Highlights: The opening of In a Silent Way, Peaceful Leave Em's: N/A Overall Thoughts: Miles Davis makes good jazz music. I don't feel at liberty to offer much more critique because I don't know a whole lot about the genre. I think there are settings in which jazz music can be more potent and interesting such as performed live or as background sounds, but I wouldn't really play this album to do any intense listening. I do prefer the slow jazz music as I think it does a better job communicating emotion. The album consisting of just a front and back side does inhibit my normal rating system of rating each song so I had to freestyle a bit for the score. Score Breakdown: 2.800 & 3 -> 2.900

I gave kind of blue a 5, it is my favorite jazz album of all time! I feel like this one is like a long lazy jam session with no direction. It's not bad it just don't feel like an album.

Only thing that struck me was the amount of electric guitar and piano, turns out that’s why this album is notable in the progression of jazz fusion. I enjoyed it, but liked Take Five way more and I know I’d enjoy others by Miles far better.

It's an acquired taste, so I'll likely improve my rating at a later date. If I go back to it, that is. I have a lot more Miles I prefer to this for now. But then again, that's not fair, since this begs for marination.

It was nice and calm ambient music. Not my style but it was really good

This is three star not because of how good it is musically, but because of how OUT there it is. This is Jazz that Miles Davis created out of thin air, with no direction, no theme, but real musical complexity that is undeniable from the perspective of "art".

Smooth jazz. But hard to pay attention for 20 minute songs.

-miles davis!!!!! -its really just a bunch of funky instruments together -it sounds really good tho!!!! just not super my thing -miles davis is definitely a legend so it can’t go less than three stars but idk if i would listen to it again

Decent chillout sesh

Miles is the coolest. So smooth.

Idk how to rate this. This is like not even in my top 10 miles records, but it’s obviously infinitely better than most of the garbage on this list.

This is too polished for me. Sorry, nerds.

miles davis' in a silent way is a pleasant album. i do wish i was more knowledgeable about jazz music to fully appreciate what davis is doing here. as a result, my review will be short. this was an easy listen, and davis weaved together his composition beautifully. absolutely no complaints! this was the third album of his on the project thus far, and i can't say i'm upset he's on the list.

This record hits the typical Jazz/Rock/Fusion notes I don't particularly like, with the noodley jazz guitar and that organ sound! Miles' trumpet sounds huge, though, especially on the first track. I think I like the trumpet on the first track and nothing else, but the guitar and organ sound much better on the second track. 3 / 5 stars.

Nice jazz fusion

certainly interesting to listen to but it doesn't really do much for me

Second track really nice.

Overall an enjoyable listen although in spots trended toward atonal. No denying the musicianship but definitely not my favorite from Miles. 3.5

Relaxing

Elevator music

Nice but a not enough grit in my opinion.

Out of my wheelhouse but a good listen. Chaotic jazz with occasional really pretty post-rock-sounding guitar interludes. Looked it up and apparently it was the beginning of "electric jazz" which was fusion with rock elements. Definitely got that here, but more jazz and post-rock fusion. Dope. I was at a [7].

Nice that it was MD, but I'm rarely in the super experimental mode.

Noodling

In A Silent Way is cool, chilled and interesting. A solid 3.

Was I born not understanding/liking jazz unless it is as freaky as hell like e.g. The Comet is Coming or Black Midi? Miles Davis must be brilliant, everyone tells you he is. But I just can't get a hold on it. As music was pleasant, I give it 3 stars

Top 3: 1) In a Silent Way 2) Shhh / Peaceful 3) Bottom 3: 1) Shhh / Peaceful 2) In a Silent Way 3)

Better jazz but still jazz

Funker som bakgrunnsmusikk

Funker bra som lesemusikk

I imagine this album is considered revolutionary and a landmark. But that didn't stop me from feeling like this was more of a band challenge than the most interesting album in Miles Davis' collection. Even as the different players came in and played beautifully, it felt static. Were there chord changes? The drums were certainly not going anywhere. Obviously all by design, and no doubt a collection of monster players, I enjoyed and was ill at ease in equal measure as this record played.

I want to love Miles Davis because he just oozes coolness. But truth be told I put this on and then it seeped into the background. Maybe it was the timing. I never get blown away by him like other people do.

Another effortlessly cool Miles Davis album, this time with more unusual, electronic sounding backing. Apparently recorded in one day and comprising two tracks (with several movements). I liked side 1 best. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Shhh / Peaceful Date listened: 19/03/23

I don't know if I'm smart enough for Jazz

I'm not really sure if I like this more than Kind of Blue or not, but both were nice. I really liked the titular track. It felt very nostalgic and home-y. It was a nice tune to return to. I was a bit bored at time, but oh well. My favourite song was In A Silent Way.

Miles Davis, clearly, has the ability to create sublime and transcendent music. There are sections of this record that ooze with grace, sections that contain the burning white coals of genius, sections that give me that same feeling as when I first closed my eyes and got immersed into a song. However, Miles uses Modality as a cure-all instead of as a singular prescription. There can be a beauty in creation without mooring; but it is my belief that the lack of standard harmony and musical context detracts from this album and, unfortunately, composes the majority of its play time.

This was actually quite mellow, not the usual squeaky trad jazz so I enjoyed it. Can't say I'd look for it to listen to. 3*

Fine but not my thing

First song made me feel like i was at a jazz club hearing someone jam out. Second song first 4 minutes reminds me of Valheim.

Pretty good, very chill, 3/5 or 6/10 or whatever

Wasn’t my favorite Miles Davis album, but nevertheless, Miles Davis is still amazing.

I didn’t think albums were made with only one song per side until the Prog rockers. Who knew? I like jazz but don’t know it well enough to appreciate the nuances of the esoteric side of it.

Nice morning listening. Something I would have to listen to in small doses.

You know… when I listen to an album I always read up on the background of it, and here it’s quite positive: acclaimed seminal album, his transition into fusion jazz, the use of electrical instruments, all that… eh… jazz. But however important the album is, it’s one genre I really can’t get behind, fusion jazz. I’m not a huge jazz fan to begin with, but fusion jazz is just a bit too much. Just Miles Davis is fine, but the rest of the instruments… meh.

38 minutes for two songs. OK. Chill background music while I was working tonight.

I can recognize the immense talent. But these are long songs that kind of feel like they don't go anywhere. I get the same feeling listening to jam band music.

I wish I knew how to appreciate this.

I was stressed. This was sorta stressful. Not its fault.

the stage. I really quite enjoyed it. It helped that half a bottle of red had been sunk before Miles got to blow his stuff. But then that's Jazz, YEAH? Abide With Me reduced me to tears.

I know there's so much talent here, and this album has some shining moments. Great transitions, and when it grooves, it grooves. That said, jazz is not my jam.

I liked this more than I thought I would. It's not typical jazz, it's funkier and more free flowing with its instruments than the other jazz albums I've heard

Nice. Smooth. Jazz.

Not my favorite period of his.

Not what I expceted from my limited knowledge of Davis' work. Only 2 lengthy songs. Chill and ethereal, was a solid listen, but also didn't have much that really grabbed me.

I blinked and it was over. Rather low key for Miles.

I felt like I was listening to the sundtrack from Homeland. Relaxing and good vibes.

It was ok. Not exceptional

Nice album, gets that jazz face going. Love the bass part on In a Silent way. Drags on a bit long for my taste

Easy listening jazz

It’s pretty dope. I’m not a musician myself so I’m sure I’m missing a lot of the wonder. And maybe because I’m not a musician, it’s kinda forgettable. I’d listen to it again tho.

Jazzy, relaxing

Interessant maar ken jazz niet goed genoeg

You could convince me this was a collab with the dead, very cool

Background jazz but I kinda like the end 3.5

The birth of Fusion.

shh/peaceful - love the pacing hihat drums, feels indubitably modern (trancelike quality you get in electronic music) - piano is so dreamlike in the background, tinkling in and out - while the saxophone is - john mclaughlin is a badass, so subtle but defo my fav - trumpet peaks and then drops in at like 6mins creating a brief vacuum which feels like you have lost your guide and fallen into a dreamy abyss. When it comes back it is so much gentler. i feel like i am in a garden of plutonian delights. - the break at 13:30 reverts you back to earth. trumpet becomes hazy and wistful, nostalgic for the distant adventure. weirdly didactic quality (complete reinforcement bias) - imagine telling children but enriching with lessons - i particularly like the little piano falls and climbs that give accents of danger or mystery - not sure i like the ending. just fades out rather suddenly. i would have preferred if all the instruments are faded out of the mix one at a time until it is just the drums in a silent way - love the guitar tone (reminds me of dear prudence) - the reverberation reminds me of gentle raindrops on a lake but the quality of the trumpet is like a tiny rowboat cutting through the water - WTF! 4.18 massive change in atmosphere, hints of excitement but then it slowly reverts back into calmness - around 10 mins: dancy in the most ideal laid back sense, head bobbing, finger twitching stuff - drums get involved more and start to spice things up a little around 13 - 15.30 bass is sexxx - and then drops out suddenly back to the dreamlike start - trumpet at end is my fav part

I’m no jazz scholar, but I know that Miles is one of the all-time best in the biz. I listened to this album at 5am while having a listless soak in the tub. Seemed fitting. The tracks are two very different sides of the same coin. Harmonious in the way they complement each other, but distinctly separate by the starkly contrasting moods each invokes while listening. I preferred the first more triumphant track to the dour second one, but overall good listening experience as a whole.

A chill soundscape that apparently pioneered the genre of Jazz fusion. Not much music or material there to really hang your "this is genius" hat on, in my opinion, but I can appreciate that this represents a milestone in modern jazz.

Sounds good but Idk how to rate jazz Album Cover: I like the lighting 4/5

quite nice

Guitar player was incredible. Nothing really stands out song wise, but performance was great

I made it through both tracks and that’s saying something, I guess.

Ain't no Kind of Blue but it was alright.

Quality background music

Mmmmmmm nice

Speaking of monotonus. Not bad though. 3

Kind of fun funky background music. I liked it for studying but wouldn't listen to it on a normal basis (just not my general style of music).

silent jammer

Nice moody lane - smooth jazz times

Like this more than I thought I would. Rhodes and organ work well as background for the trumpet, and the songs just move and breathe like they're alive.

It wasn’t bad, but not something I care to go back to and listen again

Nice, really nice

It’s not Miles’ best work, but it’s cromulent enough.

Short album but long songs, I’m not a big jazz guy but really liked the vibe on this one. Just jamming out w some great music, good for particular moods but don’t think I can revisit this one that much. Shows how great Miles Davis is that this albums still holds up

Original but not bad!

The drummer riding the hihat must have been tired after Shh/Peaceful. Proto ambient fusion suitable for moments of contemplation. When it comes to two trackers by Miles I prefer a Tribute to Jack Johnson, but you can’t really rate an album like this.

Doo da dooooo. Good music to play in the background while I play fortnite

Was very good and if I was a bigger fan of Jazz I’d probably be losing my mind but I’m Not so it gets 3

Great album for cooking with wine, adulting, entertaining with adults.

2 låter veldig nye variasjon.

Entirely instrumental

Great background/work music

Think of Miles Davis in a freestyle battle…. For 15+ minutes….

like this more than I expected to. kept it on for a full 40 minutes while i worked. found myself bobbing my head a few times. then actually listened to more for a while. ended up listening to jazz boom bap after that though https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4gV5tlVTMLPbFQqkd8LxWh?si=b05596ac7c054a17. 3 (good) recommended for: whiskey and heroin dad's night in the man cave.

Have to be in the mood, but if you are its awesome. Giving it 3/5 because while I like it the times I would listen are limited.

Chill wasn’t in the mood

Not much to say. It was nice, but didn't hold me. 3/5

This was a huge shift for Miles. While I'm not crazy about where it ended up, I can appreciate this as the transition. McLaughlin and Zawinul are fantastic on it.

Put it on while working and was just something that zipped by...may have to revisit this one...but for now a 3.5.

would be a good sleeping album

Not my cup of tea

I have listened it so many times, but still don't know. It's to complicated and tense

And there was me thinking that Coltrane album was wild for only having 4 tracks on it. I like the very soundscape-y feel this has, especially track 2. Sometimes dreamy, often slightly mysterious, but never threatening. Pixar-esque.

Strong jazz music that isn't too out there for me.

Very cruisy very smooth very relaxing. If you're rating is based on the number of tracks you like then this is a fiver but for me it's how much I want to listen to it again or if I want to explore it further. As much as I liked this it's not being added to a playlist.

Not a fan of Jazz, but this was a lot less offensive than I expected it to be. Wikipedia says it is a fusion record that ticked off some Jazz aficionados - good to hear. Certainly not a go to record, but better than the one or two stars I anticipated prior to listening. 2.5 and rounding up!

I'm not really into it.

Not my favourite Jazz pieces, I preferred in a silent way to the first track. It doesn’t really have that flow to the stages in the music, it kinda sounds like you just cut up three separate songs and spliced them together

Standard Miles here I think a good album with just 2 extended tracks meandering around their improvisations. Good Jazz but not sure I would have it in my top 1001! I suppose it is about time context but not one of my favourites on the list

Best Song: Shhh. These rules make less sense for an album like this, but the early portion of the album sounds almost alien and ethereal in its use of these technical blips and bloops. Worst Song: None. Overall: Definitely different from the Miles Davis I've listened to previously. The electric elements and rock fusion style definitely make it more easily listenable, but it also doesn't feel like it hits the same heights as Kind of Blue.

Great background music to drink a scotch to on a lazy Sunday afternoon. But, I"m not gonna play this on my way to work.

I flow three ways on Sunday and when the sun is shining I can't seem to find the phone or dial the right number. Then things shift and they continue moving in that direction, buzzing and clacking and who knows what else. For the twelfth time the underside is revealed and special things fall out. Better that way than if you payed attention. But for some, this is the way of the world. Improvisation! Play without thinking. Write without thinking. Live without thinking! But I have no artistic talent, so writing or playing without thinking just results in mush. Not so with Miles.

Hmmmm, guess it was better than some of the others

Reckon this would have gone down a treat in the background when I was at uni getting stoned. Still pleasant, though the high hat 16s are irritating after a while. Miles' tone is always lovely.

Chill Jazz vibes. It's aight.

There are better Mile Davis albums

Van has never referenced Miles Davies as an influence (they were more contemporaries anyway) but the similarities between the opening of 'in a silent way' and Van's 'haunts of ancient peace' are marked. I'm not accusing Van of plagiarism by any means as Van was able to build upon this beautiful ambient sound and craft one of his greatest recordings whereas Miles' jazzy leanings in the middle of his song are less interesting to me.

Rustig, trekt een beetje op 'No Drum and Bass in the Jazz Room' van Clever Girl.

Jazz isn't my thing, but I do love the sound Miles got from his horn. Side one belongs to that omnipresent fizzing from the hi-hat and some of the coolest bass I've ever heard. I heard someone use the word "ambient" to describe the album. It is something you'd put on late at night while peacefully discussing with a couple of friends.

Im not a jazz guy but this actually good

Hyvin toimi matkalla mökille. Mukavia maileja Milesin kaa!

Not his best but still decent.

Nice jazz album from miles Davis. Not a lot of songs but it’s 40 minutes of nice flowing, easy listening jazz. It’s pretty good. 7.0/10

Got lost in the background and like 30 mins later it was still going. Pretty relaxing

Plays constantly in my mind like a cocaine fuelled orgy with my parents and their good friends Jeff and Margaret. They sometimes dress up as farm yard animals. Jeff has enormous testicle. Margaret has a bucket cunt. It all makes for a rather good time.

I wish I liked jazz but I just don't.

The birth of FUSION. Wasn't a huge fan but loved this from the Wikipedia page "Rock critics thought In a Silent Way sounded like rock, or at least thought Miles was nodding in their direction, and practically wet themselves with joy. Jazz critics, especially ones who didn't listen to much rock, thought it sounded like rock too, and they reacted less favorably"

Enjoyable to a point, but the majority album made me feel very stressed, as though I was on the verge of a panic attack and that feeling felt like an eternity before letting up in the last few minutes. It evoked a journey in my mind but not one I'm interested in revisiting.

It all sounds very similar. It was very easy listening while eating dinner and would make a nice environment if people were over. Wish I could give it a 3.5/5

After listening to four of his albums, I think I've learned that Miles Davis is the king of cracking a note and then cracking it again when the phrase is repeated so it sounds like the first one was on purpose. If my songs were 20 minutes long, I wouldn't want to do extra takes, either. Best track: Shhh / Peaceful

Oké album, maar niet speciaal

Nice jazz

You're led to believe that Miles Davis is a genius, the primal exponent of a musical form and the template for a generation of artists to follow. But I must be missing something, as this felt like the B-side of the soundtrack to a forgettable Steve McQueen film. 38 minutes felt like much longer, and not in a good way.

29. In a Silent Way - Miles Davis 2 tracks, (but 18 & 19 mins each). This is exactly why I'm doing @1001_albums_gen . Just Miles, his trumpet & some backing snare drum & keyboard. Really unusual/interesting & not something I would normally listen to at all. The use of the snare drum is brilliant and forms the basis for everything else to come and go as it pleases. It has a sort of hypnotic quality. 3/5

Ok 2 sange? Til gengæld lange... Mere som en Jam session. Elsker Miles, men det her bliver lige lovligt langt i spytter

Chillade i bakgrunden medans essäer skrevs

Jazz... Nice

Jazzy noir, like stumbling out of a bar in a neon-covered part of the city, fighting your way through there rain to the next bar.

What more can you ask for

I generally am not a fan of jazz albums. I feel like I don't have the necessary expertise to fully enjoy them, and as a result, I don't like the music. However, this one is an exception. I enjoyed it as it was lively when it needed to be and soothing when it wanted to be. My only gripe is that each song is just a bit long. Favorite track: In a Silent Way

Rating: 6/10

3 stars for the massive influence, but definitely not the enjoyment factor

It sure is Miles Davis. I'm no jazz aficionado but most jazz sounds kinda similar to me (although I'm sure Miles Davis produces some of the best of it)

long sax songs lol

This was a really interesting listen. I wasn't sure what to expect, and it's probably good I didn't have solid expectations because this album is all over the place. I liked it. I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 4 because I didn’t love all of it but I’d definitely listen to more Miles Davis in the future.

Maybe it's because I listened to it while studying and I've been listening to a lot of instrumentals, but it didn't really click for me

Nice progression across just two long tracks. Nice listen and great to relax, think, work.

More up pace jazz
