Reviews (page 7 of 7)

I like Cube’s acting, and he is a legend with NWA. The violence towards women I don’t get. Others do, and that’s not good.

Day597 - this has aged terribly much like ice cubes career

It's hard to imagine this man would go on to be a kids movie star, and Trump bootlicker. The music is good. But I won't separate art from the artist.

Listening notes: -Love to Hate: nah. I'm pretty tired of "I'm a shitty person so I'm cool". Especially bragging about shooting places up with an unregistered AK. There's interesting stuff to be said about violence, but this isn't it. -You can't fade me: wow this really sucks. -Gangsta's Fairytale: okay, the music here (not the lyrics) kinda slaps? Gonna have to listen again and figure out if there's non-lyric stuff that's redeeming. -Meh, most of it is pretty forgettable. -Not giving this 2 listens because I didn't like it. I did sample a few tracks just to make sure there weren't redeeming qualities I was overlooking. -Man's World is pretty good stuff. Review: This album starts with a song in which Ice Cube proudly proclaims to be a piece of shit and then he substantiates his claim throughout the album. I get that a lot of this is bravado and he probably didn't do anything like he claims, but even if if he's lying for clout, is that exculpatory? And if we take the gangsta rap premise of being the villain the world assumes you are, I'm still not sure this really works. I dunno. You can't both be upset that there's ignored crime in black neighborhoods but also brag and cheer on committing that crime. So if the lyrics are bad, is there anything else that's good here? I guess the beats. Ice Cube's delivery and flow are pretty smooth. But frankly even that has been expended by track 5. The rest just kinda drags. Man's World is aight, but I don't think quite enough to round this up to 2 stars. Also, my initial time exposure to Ice Cube was, like many, the kids movie *Are We There Yet*, which is very funny given what this is.

I just cant listen to the whole album :/ my goal has been to listen to each album all the way thru at least once but i just am not a fan. I do struggle to listen to lyrics and the music at the same time so i wasnt picking up on a lot of the lyrics initially but then i was reading some reviews while listening and people were mentioning the misogyny and i was like wait i do not need to force myself to listen to the album if i truly do not like it plus hate what hes saying for part of the songs as i skimmed around and actually read the lyrics. I gave it a shot but its just not for me.

Rap -> 1

Feels like an eye-rolling edgelord album for the Black community. I tried listening to this album but I just cannot take it seriously. I am of the opinion that albums with song titles like "Get Off My Dick and Tell Yo Bitch to Come Here" are not albums that deserve a place on a list such as this. It is not just the flat misogyny, it is also the sophomoric and childish whining that tries to take itself seriously. There are good hip hop albums, but this is not one of them.

Yeah I can't even pretend to like this shit

I HATED THIS IN WAYS I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO ENUNICATE the casual misogyny that goes so far beyond what we even think of as being in hip-hop at the time, the same flow for an hour. it just makes me mad that people can get so mad about injustice that directly affects them and then turn around and continue to oppress the groups that they have leverage over, like i know he wasn't calling women ugly on this cd DID HE OWN A MIRROR?!?!?!?!

Just not a fan of rap and profanity I guess. Good beats overall. Tracks to Track: AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted

ice cube: most wanted for being misogynistic

Out of the Rap albums I have listened to so far this is bottom of the barrall, not sure what the redeeming features are of this album and why this has been included in this list.

The music and the rap was okay, but the misogyny was terrible.

I get how this is well regarded in the rap world, I kind of like the cadence/flow of the rap but I don't need this kind of anger, misogyny, hate and racism in my life.

Another misogynistic Hip-Hop/Rap album?

There’s so much good here… but it’s sooooooooo sexually demeaning I just can’t deal.

A solid 1 out of 5 for me. Honestly, the world would have been a better place without this album. It just didn’t resonate with me at all, and I can confidently say I will absolutely never listen to this again. It’s a hard pass!

Rappiges sinnfreies Geschwurbele. Weder Kunst noch Musik.

Nope. Could not get to the end. Fav:-

safe one

Ear poison.

What a kick in the teeth, and not in a fun way. Hateful, offensive, misogynistic, and flat out digusting in some places, this album is not at all for me. Ice Cube is a pretty good rapper, but this is just far too hateful to be enjoyable. I feel for the people who need music like this to represent them, the world must be cruel for this to form into adult thought. The Bomb is the best for me for being the most listenable.

To namedrop a 2007 masterpiece - this album had me like "Are We Done Yet?" Embarrassing.

i just dont dig 90’s cali hip hop….

This is so bad. Like embarrassingly bad. It just sucks in every aspect. I didn’t enjoy a single moment of this. I like NWA and I’ve heard ice cube songs that I liked but this is trash

I was really enjoying this through its first few songs until it hit one about getting someone pregnant accidentally that was violent and misogynistic, and the album never recovered.

Some interesting instrumentation but after 4 tracks I knew where it was going and had enough. On the record that it was better than Marilyn Manson

Didn't care for this

Not a rap fan

Too much profanity and N-Words

Horrible

Quite bad

Yeah no beating up pregnant women just ain’t right

I don’t really understand how anyone can say this is a “good” album with a straight face. It’s just like all the other gangsta rap trash. Constant swearing, super derogatory of women, bragging bout how many people you’ve iced and how you hate the police. Also, most gangsta rappers rap about societal problems (or at least claim to), but don’t seem too concerned about actual change, they seem content to wallow in their filth.

cannot get past the continued slurs, f-bombs, and horribly derogatory treatment of women. the track about punching the 7 month pregnant woman in the stomach & getting a coat hanger??? I understand it's "gangsta rap" but this is a hard, hard pass

# 429 - 05/03/2025 : Not my thing personally, The music etc was ok and I can listen to it, but the relentless profanity grows wearisome, like, how many times can you say "nigger" on one album?... Can't listen to that anymore - give me something happy :-)

Definitely not for me

p648. 1990. 1 star. (C)rap. Violent, misogynistic, offensive rubbish that seems to go on forever. People will listen to this in 20 years and wonder how it was ever considered acceptable listening. Sample lyrics: Motherfucker / Nigga / Fuck a punk / Nigga / Bitches / Nigga / Hoes / Nigga / Fuck you / Nigga / Shit / Nigga / Kick the bitch / Nigga / Bullshit / Nigga / Pussy / Nigga / Slut / Nigga Repeat ad infinitum

This one was a struggle to keep listening to the end. Every song sounded pretty much the same. And whilst 1h 11m is quite long, it felt at least twice that length. I don't even need to delve into the lyrical content to rate this one.

I prefer his acting

Not a fan - some of this content was too violent for me

Non-music. Pretentious. And the misspelled label is the nonsense cherry on top. 0/5

Me no like

A lot of complaining and anger. Not enjoyable.

Not for me. 1/5

Violence against women gets a 1 idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

I actually owned this on cassette the year it came out. What can I say? Listening to the album again, I find that regrettable. It is an album that should be forgotten. Ice Cube was an influential rapper, but it's unclear now what the appeal was. I winced and grimaced my way through the lyrics and the whole thing.

I was going to write this whole clever passage about how the offenders on Law and Order SVU probably think some of the same thoughts as the lyrics on this album and how that’s ironic because Ice T is a cop on the show. But this is Ice Cube. Well shit. I was going to give this a 2 until I heard this: “Women, they’re good for nothing, no maybe one thing To serve needs to my ding-a-ling” How lame. And how did his gangsta card not get taken for that line?

This was....ass. I like rap but I couldn't get through this album. Nothing but the the same recycled beat and lazy lyrics with no substance.

Yet another hip hop album. Yet again a negative review. Move on

I really dont mind rap and hip hop but not going to listen to misogynistic lyrics

Every track sounds the same as the other. Derivative.

Mindnumbing. An NWA rip-off without any of the charm or the humour. Or decent beats. Just utterly terrible. Everything I hate about gangsta rap in this album. Stoking racial division, mysoginisty, and releasing generally shite music whilst at it. Strong no from me. Made me give the bellend Elvis a 2* review FFS ice cube.

I don't like it

I did not like the lyrics. Too many MF,N, and B words. Some songs disrespectful to women. I was thankful when the album ended.

Rap isnt my thing

I love good rap / hip hop that has a story to tell and something to say… but… not willing to dig through the profanity, violence, and misogyny to find it.

Misogynistic and boring.

Could wait for this one to finish. AmeriKKKa can keep you Ice Cube, I have no interest in this rubbish.

Just horrible... lots of swearing and shouting.. what a noise.... aweful

Yuck. Awful lyrics, stunningly misogynistic. Should be removed from the zeitgeist

Not for me. Tried to have an open mind, but nope.

Terrible.

Nah. 1.

NOPE!!!

Had to turn it off after the punch her in the stomach moment.

I expected a lot more from this. The highlights were Flava Flav and Yo Yo, who actually had a flow and rhythm to their voices. Most of the rest was just Ice Cube yelling while rhyming and swearing. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything this misogynistic, either. This type of stuff makes me appreciate just how talented guys like Chuck D really are. Oh, and the other highlight was the last track where he shouted out to a bunch of rappers who were significantly better then him.

Listened to this while playing 7th Citadel. Fuck this album. Just hateful.

I can’t relate to the lyrics and find the filthy language stupid and unnecessary

hip-Hop not my taste

Profaner Gangster Rap.

I was about 4 or 5 songs in, thinking this is one really long profanity-laden track. All sounds the same. Not for me

I didn't even bother today's album. It is absurdly explicit, violent and misogynistic. Shame that many "popular" hip hop albums (e.g. the aforementioned album, "The Chronic" by Dr. Dre, "Fear of a Black Planet" by Public Enemy...) are super anachronistic and do not sit well among most listeners, me included.

Hate it.

I went through the motions with this album. A great opener put me in good spirits that I'd finally found a rap album I might like. Fast forward to song two and beyond, I very quickly realised this was more misogynistic parody than a serious work of art. Top 1001 album? Come on guys. Why are we exposing this? Do better.

Alveg drep...

I was a big Ice Cube fan growing up. Strong, aggressive rapping but listening to his full albums is repetitive, sounds like he has the a couple rhymes for each word and he reuses them in every song. Boring songs right here.

Rap crap

1/5. Oooo nooo! Watch out! He's such a badass. 😱😱 Really though I have such a hard time taking gangsta rap seriously.

One song is enough!!! NO

Being of the female persuasion this is a hard no from me. Interesting innovation around using gunfire as a percussive musical element. But no, I certainly did not need to hear this, thank you anyway.

Not for me. Not for me should never be taken to mean “not good” or “bad” or “not for you” or anything other than “Not for me.”

Didn’t like the lyrics at all.

Rap is not music

I wrote a long piece concerning the misogyny, promotion of violence and glorifying of the " thug life" but ultimately deleted it and thought I'd just go with bollocks. bollocks,

I do not like Hip-Hop/Rap

The beats on this album are quite good. That is coming from someone who HATES the concept of ‘beats’ — what happened to instruments and singing? But what the actual f…? The misogyny is CRAZY. And is ‘Get Off My Dick…’ supposed to be… homophobic? I can’t even tell because I don’t understand what language half these words are. Useless attempt. Sorry you feel threatened by women and gay people because you’re an insecure piece of crap and they’re more successful than your worthless little life? This isn’t even music. The background is good. With better lyrics, I would even consider a 3. But this deserves negative stars. What is wrong with critics? Worst tracks: ‘You Can’t Fade Me’, ‘Turn Off The Radio’, ‘Get Off My…’, ‘It’s A Man’s World’ (I basically didn’t listen to any other tracks except the first seven).

Yeah, hard stop at the song that casually talks about violent involuntary abortions.

Definitely gets you going. above average rap. my appreciation of it is below average. the reference to kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach was stomach churning. the cycle of trauma and abuse as entertainment? no.

Early 90s gangsta rap. One of the best examples of the genre, but this type of hip hop left me cold at the time. I don't mind the politics, but the misogyny and violence leave me uncomfortable. Really uncomfortable. There are a surprising number of people who try to excuse the rampant sexism of this record (see the Content and Critical Reception sections of the wikipedia entry on this album), but there is no excusing this appalling misogyny. A lot of the lyrics are really vile (see "I'm Out For One Thang" as an example). The Rolling Stone review got it right: "the relentless profanity grows wearisome, the Bomb Squad beats lose steam, and Cube's attitudes toward women are simply despicable." I disagree about the Bomb Squad production which is, in my opinion, fantastic. It's frenetic, with an underlying gritty funk. But, despite the production and occasional cameos from Chuck D and Flav, this sure ain't no Public Enemy album. I really don't want to listen to this again. Half a star for Cube, plus half a star for the production.

Hyvät taustat ja ois hyvä räppää, mut pilaa naisvihallaan about kaikki sanoitukset. Iiiiiso miinus

Nott for me dawg

This sounds awful. The beats are really dated and have aged rather poorly. And there is a lot of woman hate here. More aging poorly.

The misogyny alone is reason enough to dislike this album. Deleting the misogyny, the remaining half of the album has little redeeming qualities. This era of rap was not written for me. I'm not sure I understand the intended audience, but the content of the music feels like a weird sort of playing dress-ups. From a male or female perspective, I can't find a reason to take in this content. ¿Should he get a therapist so he can get over these personal issues?

This genre ain't for me

I just can't listen to these misogynistic lyrics. Switched off - no idea.

A Gangsta’s Fairytale 1.5/5

I don’t like ice cube

I don't need to listen to this album before I die.

Um disco sólido, construído com maciços tijolos de misoginia mostrando que o que era ruim em 1990 pode ficar pior em 2023.

better than common, public enemy and nas. worse than everything else. zero. Favorites:

I was kind of over it by the time You Can't Fade Me came on. I like a few songs (not on this album) by Ice Cube but this was not it for me. The fact that he had to bash and bring up women in order to make a song makes me dislike it so much more.

AJ: Most wanted? Yeah right.

Vill bara dräpa författaren och artisten. Ja, all som tycker det här är bra. Hör mer musik när jag sitter på muggen och skiter.

dislike

Great beats had Jane dancing in the kitchen, but the ridiculous mysoginy, bragadoccio and foul language is tedious in the extreme.

The wall to wall profanity got old real quick. As did the misogyny and the utter sameness of every track.

This got boring really fast. It feels like a poor excuse for violence, misogyny, and swearing. When all you do is use swear words to communicate, it kind of misses the point, no matter how relevant the political commentary is.

Too sweary and not at all fun to listen to. DNF 🤦‍♀️

No more early 90s rap, pleeaassseee

I'm glad I got to experience this whole album once, but now I'm done. No more, thanks.

I suffer from terminal hip hop fatigue. Every track is mind-numbingly repetitive and indistinguishable from all the others. Music for edgy delinquents who think being black is a personality trait.

The entry for this in the "1001 albums" book says it best: "gangsta garbage". This is a sorry excuse for an album. 0.5/5

Ugh, I really don't like gangster rap - the aggression, the misogyny (although there is a "balanced" piece towards the end), the unimaginative swearing and being a mixed race man I squirm every single time I ever hear the N word. I like cuddly actor Cube, but to have this straight after yesterday's Taylor Swift very recent folk-pop Evermore album is such a contrast as to practically knock me down. The beats and funky background samples are ok (well done Public Enemy). That's it.

Afschuwlijk. Alleen die hoes al van zo'n "wanna-be" gangster. Ook het gebruik van scheldwoorden waar in Nederland onderhand al op worden aangesproken. Stoer hoor. *

Who really wants to listen to ignorant people acting angry, shooting guns, calling each other Nigga.? The music and style is actually good, it is just all the extreme content that really ruins this album. 1/5

I am just not that into rap, the songs all sounded very similar to me.

Nope. Not for me. I can appreciate it's power and impact, but I couldn't get into it.

"Music" for poc, who want to feel justified in blaming everybody else for problems of their own making, and for white people who want to feel "edgy". Rap is KKKrap.

Instead of joking on this actually being most unwanted, I will say this genre isn't one I normally listen to and point out the excessively profane lyrics as a big turn off.

As dull a record, as has ever been made.

1/5 Don’t like the old school rap

I’m a lover of hip hop/rap and really like some of the NWA stuff. Enjoy the west coast and G-Funk that Dre brought to the mix but this was barely listenable! Loud, overly aggressive and didn’t feel like the album had any sort of direction to it. Put it off about half way through. Disappointed to be honest.

Did not listen entirely; not a fan of rap

Not my thing

Slightly better than expected. Still didn’t like it though.

1/5. Nix für mich. Nicht ganz gehört

Noniinno, tätä samaa ysärigangstailua joka ei kyllä putoa edelleenkään yhtään. Ei jäänyt mitään mieleen enkä oikeastaan haluaisikaan jäävän.

Did not enjoy and did not finish.

Old school hip-hop…I can appreciate it for its historic importance…but it‘s aweful!
