Reviews (page 7 of 8)

not the genre for me.

I’m not listening to this whole thing. I don’t really mind it the singing vocals, but I’ve admittedly never been a fan of screamo.

I figured it out. The authors of this list hate metal and have specifically chosen metal albums to convince everyone else that metal is bad. I know the common complaint back in the day was, "this is evil music that darkens the soul and makes kids angry and violent." I wish this album made me feel anything other than 2nd hand embarrassment. It is so try hard and lame. It is Creed with double bass pedals and screaming.

Holy shit. This is awful. Couldn't get through it. 1/10

Favorite Song: None

This is the exact type of hard rock that I despise. All that hooting and hollering is too much for me.

Not my bag. Was surprised to find that after a couple of songs my brain had adjusted and ears stopped bleeding and that some of the later songs actually had choruses where the vocals were actually sang. Notwithstanding that it is still scoring a big fat 1.

One of those rare instances where the album title could double up as the album review. I anticipated something more - maybe more original. But alas, after the uninspiring build-up of '.execute.', all the tropes come flooding in: the double kicks; the thrashed (and amelodic) power chords; shredded solos that feel interchangeable across the album; pinched harmonics; gutural howls; self-centred despair. The lyrics are a solipsistic spunk session. Some of the riffs are pretty tasty, 'Gemayria' and 'Sulfur' included, which takes some from Sabbath, some from Metallica 'Psychosocial' is basically'Enter Sandman' mangled). But they always give way to bland-thrash. Comparing to Sabbath is obviously unfair, but surely they must be the yardstick by which all doom-laden rock is measured. Amongst its own stable it probably gets a two - but in the wider world, not.

not a fan at all- 1.5

When to listen: Want to raise my blood pressure, feel stressed, feel panicked. I tried to listen, I really did. .execute. was a tough listen, and it got slightly better throughout but not enough. I can respect the genre, respect the guitar skills, respect how much Slipknot means to others. But... doesn't mean I like it.

Rather exhausting for me

This piece of crap is getting the rating it deserves.

00s nu metal/ groove metal is a music that I really hate. I listened to this album from start to finish and my opinion hasn't changed.

Rage, despair, and dogged fatalism is a good description for me. "Life has no point but f*** it. We'll just live until we die." At first the frenetic drumming and guitars were energizing but half way through I had to stop listening. I was beginning to tune it all out.The second half was more melodic but just as despairing without the same energy. I am glad I listened to it but too easily mirrors everything around us in the culture.

Yeah, no. Not my cuppa tea.

If I was to make any defence of this album, some of the guitar riffs and hooks are enjoyable. But on the whole, it’s terrible - I can’t stand the screaming.

Not my bag. Was surprised to find that after a couple of songs my brain had adjusted and ears stopped bleeding and that some of the later songs actually had choruses where the vocals were actually sang. Notwithstanding that it is still scoring a big fat 1.

Are they taking advantage of their listener's teenage angst, or are they really that whiney and self-absorbed? Go do yoga or take some herbal stuff and get over yourself. Credit to the drummer's skill but the noisy whining is like dealing with a toddler.

Why the fuck is this here? The band hates it. It’s not good. It might represent something but the band has other albums. 1 star wishing I could give less.

I would prefer not to.

Jesus, these idiots again... I only recently listened to their debut album, and I would be hard-pressed to distinguish between the two. Although let me clarify: that album was a one-idea scream-fest seething with indecipherable anger. This has slightly more ideas, but they all seem lifted from other bands. I hear lifts from Tool, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park and a bunch of other bands that I don't really like. And so cliched! This was an hour of my life I will never get back. What a waste of time.

To think we went from the Ink Spots to Slipknot in 70 years, where did we go wrong?

Absolute torture

Look, I am not harboring hostages in a compound for religious and/or anti-government purposes, so why do they keep trying to put on this torture tape music?

Not one but TWO slipknot albums? The immediate thought that came to mind was Darth Vader's "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further" line. Man if there's a third Slipknot album I'm going to... give it another 1-rating. I like metal. There's more to metal than whatever this is.

This one was slightly better than the -other- Slipknot record we endured, but not enough to raise the score from 1. Fun fact: no longer on the list (but no one told the 1001 selection tool)

didn't make it past the first song

Nej tak til slipknot

*A ok album, full of screaming vocals and banging instruments.

I have never listened to a Slipknot album. I was surprised they sound so poppy and that I’d heard some of their songs back in those times. Slipknot fans are all Trump supporters. This reminds me of trade school, trailer park parties, construction sites, and waking up hungover at a house you’d rather not be in with people you associate with only because that’s all the people you know in the town.

Not my style.

Hard pass - could never get into it.

Ughhhh I hate it

Ah, the pride of my home state. Is this any good? I can’t hear over the non-stop drumming and lack of dynamic range. There are eight (eight!) musicians in this band, but I can only discern enough happening in the mix to account for three of them. Rarely has someone done so little with so much.

ÀAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! SCREAMING

Gross as hell. Honestly this was tough to get through. The second half got a little better and I like the drumming. Other than that, how did this make the top anything?

Too heavy for me, and I like metal

Nope. This is what I imagine incels listen to in their mom’s basement after the pretty cheerleader turns down their advances.

I wish this band was hope so they'd be gone too

List would have been sweet with one Slipknot album. Cheers.

Truly punishment for the ears. I did nothing to deserve this. Except for a string of crimes. And sins. And crimesins. Listen, it's been a long week. My point is: fuck Slipknot!

Ahhaha, nope.

For many tracks, I liked the song until the singing started, which is not a great review. A couple of the less screamy songs weren’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard. 1.5 rounded down.

I had modest hopes I wouldn’t totally hate this and might find some redeeming aspect (guitar work, a hint of a melody here and there), but no. Only made it through about half of it. A zero “rounded” up to one because we have to.

If they got a vocalist rather than this shooting shit included might listen to them again. As it is...I certainly won't!!

Do I really need to listen to this? It's gonna be 1 star, I can tell you right away... 01) .execute. - 2,0 02) Gematria (The Killing Name) - 4,0 03) Sulfur - 5,0 04) Psychosocial - 6,0 05) Dead Memories - 6,0 06) Vendetta - 5,0 07) Butcher's Hook - 4,0 08) Gehenna - 5,0 09) This Cold Black - 4,0 10) Wherein Lies Continue - 4,0 11) Snuff - 6,5 12) All Hope Is Gone - 3,0 TOTAL: 4,54 (45/100) Current ranking: 697/724

I'd rather swallow razor blades before listening to this again.

Absolutely not

So much yelling and screaming yet it feels so empty and fake. This just annoyed me the further I went into this album. Ugh.

It's slipknot. It's loud. It's too aggressive for me. Specific songs i do like but have a mix of things and this album just made my head hurt.

Tried and failed to enjoy this. This wouldn’t make on my 100,001 album list.

Unequivocally the worst Slipknot album of the era where everyone was alive and still in the band. Why is it on this list and not Iowa?

I arrived upon a rating for this one within 30 seconds of track one starting. This is NOT an album I ever needed to hear - it is frankly just noise. I’d like the hour of my time it took to endure this back.

Wha, why does this exist?

I didn't need to listen to this before I die

I once had a Slipknot CD. Some dude must have left it in my car or something. There was one song on that album I think I liked. This was not that album.

Knot my cup of tea

needs more kick drum and anger. Jesus. Make it stop. minus 5 stars.

Dear Slipknot, please don’t burn our cities down. Burn down your own cities. I’m starting to remember why I hit the off-ramp at mile marker Classic Vinyl back in the 2010’s. Could have managed a 2 but the Linkin Park emo angst bits give me no choice

On the second song I was thinking maybe this wasn’t so bad. Just like relentless metal which I could enjoy in small doses but then by song four they start integrating conventional nu metal singing elements and I had to stop. If it was just punishing all the way through I would not have hated it

Drum sounds were kinda insane but no way.

Not into the growling/screaming heavy metal. The music on this album can be pretty fun, but I just don't really like the main singer. Occasionally there's another singer on the choruses, he's pretty good. And Snuff was really good. Which makes sense, as the growler guy isn't on it, it's all the other guy. It's almost enough to push up to a 2, but not quite enough to get past the growling. The extended edition has a few songs without the growler, those are better, would have been a better album if they were on the main release. Best song: Snuff

Ugh, this is not for me. It's like the soundtrack to a tri-state killing spree.

Just noise

There are nine of them. They are from Iowa. They wear masks. One would be inclined to do the same if one were responsible for – nay, even remotely associated with – with this monstrosity (a descriptor, alas, that might be misconstrued as a compliment). Least-shocking ex-out from the official book. 0/5 (And wouldn't Slipknot be an appropriate name for a smooth jazz or yacht rock act?)

Really did not need this today. For a song or two I can tolerate it but an hour and ten minutes come on. Feels like the different singers have completely different vibes as well. When it wasn’t the main one I was enjoying it way more. Specific rating- 0.8 Fav song- sulfur Least fav- This cold black

I really wanted to enjoy it…

.5 or less

RWWWAAAHHHH...SLIPKNOT....RWAAAHHHHH. 1/5

Odd that being brought up on a diet of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc that I never made the jump to Metal. I think it’s because each of the aforementioned gave us all a break from the thrashiness by including softer more cuddley songs on their albums. That and because Ian, Ozzy and Robert had great voices and were diverse. Unlike Metal vocals whose proponents seem to shout in Klingon fashion and at speeds to outdo each other and to get to the end of the song as quickly as possible. It was therefore a chore to get to the end of this album which was full of the hallmarks just described. It was a viscous assault on my ears forcing me to immediately find solace with the gentle tones of Joni. 1/5 4/9/25

Nope. (Slipk)not for me. There were occasional elements that were OK but this album really tested my record of having listened to every album so far in full

This is, indeed, an album. And no one can take that away from it. 1/5

sranje, smeće, dno dna. zasad daleko najgori album koji sam slušao u sklopu ovog projekta

All Hope Is Gone from this list. One Slipknot album was tragic enough, but two!?!?! While so many great hip hop and R&B artists are delegated to a single album. We don’t even get 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me album, but we get TWO FUCKING SLIPKNOT ALBUMS?!?!? The author of these books should admit he doesn’t understand the premise of what you need to hear before you die.

DIDN'T LIKE IT

dnf i’m sorry

So I don't really like metal or it's numerous subgenres, and this has done little to dissuade me of that option. I don't absolutely hate this album, but I don't understand why it's here, or who it's for. The more hardcore fans despise it for the more pop-puni vibes, people like me (who find nu-metal cringe and edgy) won't love it, and it seems to have little reason being on the list. There's definitely an argument that more metal belongs on the 1001, but this occupying a space isn't helping that argument at all. 06/08/25

Slipknot is just Kiss for kids who cut themselves. People have never pretended Kiss was deep though.

So much screaming, hate it

Not as hard on my ears as I expected, but absolutely not enjoyable, either. So... Is that 1/5 or 2/5? Considering I have as little appetite to finish this as I did with KISS or Björk's Medúlla, I'm afraid it's 1/5

How are there TWO Slipknot records on this list?

How does this make a 'must listen to' list?

Forstår godt at Slipknot er på listen, synes den tidligere plade med dem holdte overraskende godt. Men ved altså ikke lige hvorfor den her er det, synes det meste af det var meget forgettable

Slipknot es tan aburrido

not my vibe cant stand the vocals, think with a different vocal style the songs could be decent

dear god I can't believe i got through that. is there a zero stars option?

I do not like this. It's interesting that it contains so many elements of a kind of music that I really like but somehow the way this is all put together just does nothing for me.

We're not too deep into the 1001 project yet, but nothing compares to how much I hated this. The stunted adolescent angst of the lyrics, the awful vocals (screaming = fine,if tired; the singing = Creed-level cringe), the guitar wankery, the drum wankery (JFC that china cymbal)...I couldn't have liked it less. These dudes are huge, so this obviously does something for a lot of people, but I was counting down the seconds till it ended.

Very funny, guys!

didn't like this at all, i find that screaming to be very stressful to listen to wasn't so bad when they were singing normally but it wasn't very redeeming all the songs sounded the same - would have given this a 1.5 but am rounding it down

By track 2 I was ready to turn it off.

I'm not the most familiar person with Slipknot's music compared to other nu metal bands (specially Korn or Linkin Park), and this album is already pretty far removed from their first two which are pretty well regarded. So I hoped that who knoes maybe I'll like it since I like some nu metal but noooooooooo this album was just the lamest a band of this style has sounded I think Just really boring and predictable mixes of groove metal and alt metal, with anthemic, group vocal things trying to be anti war, I appreciate the anti war/anti american angle but the lyrics read like a teenager wrote them, the music is fucking lame, and I'm just sitting here thinking that if they tried the whole clean vocals thing and less biting of death metal riffs to make them boring this would be good But its not

Grunt-screaming metal is not the genre for me. Also, the drummer needs to calm the hell down. I'm exhausted just listening to him.

All Hope Is Gone marks my second encounter with Slipknot as part of this music challenge. Unfortunately, much like my first experience with the band, this album didn’t resonate with me. It’s clear that this style just isn’t my genre—I find it difficult to connect with on any meaningful level. The album feels overly long and, at times, repetitive. I found the listening experience challenging, with relentlessly aggressive drums, a heavy reliance on power chords, and little in the way of melody. The vocals—mostly harsh shouting—struck me as more chaotic than expressive. I had to break the album into three or four sessions just to get through it. Favourite Tracks: Sulfur and Snuff stood out as relative highlights. Their more melodic and melancholic tones offered a welcome contrast to the otherwise abrasive soundscape. These tracks felt more structured and emotionally resonant. Least Favourite Track: Gematria was particularly tough to get through—dense, loud, and exhausting. Album Artwork: The cover came across as unintentionally comical. I’m not sure that was the intended effect, but it felt somewhat at odds with the album’s dark and aggressive tone.

No thanks

I just can't get into slipknot, might be unfair for me to review but as a reflection of my taste it's low. I did have an old friend who really likes them (and korn) I just never could.

Slipknot is like Mrs. Rachel if she traded her ukulele for a chainsaw and taught toddlers how to scream in 9/8 time. Both captivate their audiences with intense eye contact and oddly soothing chaos—just depends if you're teething or moshing.

I guess I don’t like slipknot

Harsh, gutteral/screaming vocals with heavy guitar and drums

Fun fact: All the members of Slipknot were in their mid to late 30s when they wrote this cringe. As usual with heavy metal, the instruments are somewhere between fine and good, but I'd honestly rather listen to an instrumental version because of just how bad the lyrics are. It would be understandable if it was a group of teenagers, but this was written by grown men. I mostly listened to this with the lyrics up on the screen and I still didn't understand what they were trying to say. It's almost like I need to know some background lore before I can understand what they're talking about.

Loud pounding and screaming

What in the fuck is an album like this doing on a list like this? Are you fucking shitting me? Who wrote this fucking book? Slipknot is fucking terrible. Jesus. For fuck's sake.

Oof. Nope. Not for me. Drums are decent though.

Just horrible. It should be on the 1001 albums I didn't need to listen to.

Just dreadful

129/1089 - The switch between screaming and singing is irritating. Drumming is flashy, obviously takes a lot of effort to be good enough to sound like that but I'm not sure I enjoy how it sounds. At least they were relatively nice to Nardwuar. No good reason for this to be on the list as other nu-metal albums are more influential, so -1 star for that too. On the bright side, my reviews 125-129 is a straight! Non-list recommendation: I am using one of my free four album recommendations from the Charlatans notes - (Demon Days - Gorillaz).

No. I am sad to denigrate the integrity of this project, but I could not listen to the whole album.

I simply could not take these guys seriously 😭 At least the last 3 songs redeemed the album

Trash metal for bored suburban teens. Does not belong on this list in any way, shape , or form.

Sort of reassuring that there’s people out there who love this. Something for everyone. Angry music by angry people for angry people

So annoying

THIS IS JUST PURE NOISE. I have never wanted something to end quicker . PERIOD.

This is the heavy stuff. Could scare your mother with it. That being said, I do not enjoy this very much myself.

the first song was scary and bad Song: psychosocial i do not like this song either it is very bad Song: snuff i like this song than the others but still this song is sad and this album is sad would not recommend this album and i would make them happier in my opinion but i think the album is scary and weird because it turned to screaming to mid screaming to actually singing

I don't like this song it is bad i dont like heavy metal . i dont like this song i dont like heavy Mattel i dont like what they are saying the last song was better but they still sucked

I don't like this because I don't like the instruments and sound of it. I give it 1 star and do NOT recommend to someone else because I don't think they would like it at all.

I don't like the first song because its not the type of music I would listen too and I just don't like the background music . and I also don't really like hardcore music the second song I also don't like its not a song I would listen to usually and the lyrics I also don't like . the third song I also don't like cause its not a song I would listen too

the first song its so bad bro wha r these albums they suck oms i don like dis type of music like get out fr. da lyrics r bad the music is bad. the second one is rlly bad to what the flip broe its like the same thing as like da other one

There are things I can appreciate but the bottom line is that it doesn’t bring me joy. 1

Not my type of music

I can never get into that angry low growl this genre of music entails.

I am sure it is great music to some and I can definitely see why they are good players but it wasnt for me at all!

Never developed a taste for death metal. Snuff was the only song I could really listen to.

I couldn’t hear the lyrics, it was all just noise. Bring back Buddy Holly!

Если в вашем МЕТАЛ альбоме самые нормальные треки это самые спокойные треки, то ваш альбом, увы, кал

La musica non ne è neanche male ma più di un’ora di questi testi e queste urla…assolutamente no

Unlistenable

not my thing

I don’t think metal is bad, I just really dislike it.

No thank you.

Tried to be objective, but this is just really bad. Again, I fail to see how it's influential when they weren't doing anything new.

Can't say I made it all the way through, but I got the gist. What did a bunch of dudes in Iowa in 1998 have to be so mad about? Did they invent the 90s thing of throwing in the little melody between the screaming to show they know what it is? No thanks.

This is not my thing, but mainly cos of the vocals. The guitar and drums are technically impressive - I think I liked it more the FatBoi though, but a similar feeling. Samey. 1.8

This is barely music

Not for me

Nothing enjoyable here. There’s plenty of other metal bands who are better than Slipknot. Opeth, Slayer and Mastodon all came to mind while I was suffering through this particular album. And none of those bands clean vocals sound like Nickleback either.

Ummm , not sure what to think. The growling is not my thing.

Not my cup of tea ☕️

This one belongs on the list of WORST.

1/5 non è il mio

Slipknot makes hard metal, which consists primarily of angry screaming. At times, they are capable of melodic hard rock - close to an edgy Soundgarden. They, they start the ugly screaming again. Their songs are all very similar: thrashing guitars, driven drum parts, and lots and lots of gratuitous screaming. Then, there's the odd ballad they call "Snuff" - because every metal band needs a parallel to Kiss' "Beth."

Imagine being a guy who listens to a Slipknot album from 2008 and is like "wow this album, by Slipknot, from 2008, is one of the 1001 albums a person should hear before they die". music: hated. (⌐■_■)

All hope is gone, indeed. I hate this. 0.5

Never listened to a Slipknot album in my life, so wasn't sure what to expect with this one. All the songs that come in with a double kick drum and growly vocals confirmed my worst fears and were just anxiety inducing for me. However, there were a couple of moments where Corey Taylor actually sings and the drummer plays normally that I didn't really hate. "Dead Memories" was probably the best thing here, but I also thought parts of "Psychosocial" and "Snuff" were alright. 1.5 stars.

I had no hope going into this Slipknot and after an hour of the hottest and noisiest yet completely below-average screamo metal thuddering I am left wondering how is this even in the 1001 book when Psychosocial is the only catchy decent song? For all the intense aural assault at least it doesn’t have Robert Wyatt singing on it.

Life is too short to listen to this album

Headache inducing. No thanks.

What are we doing here? The fact that this nixed another album off of the list is so maddening to me.

This music sets me on edge in a very unpleasant way.

Not for me

Slot should have gone to a second SoaD album if we’re trying for a quota of this kinda thing

Ohhh my god I can’t do this. Started this project because I love all kinds of music and figured this would be a great way to discover new stuff and expand my knowledge. I didn’t realize I might have to listen to bad music

🎧I hate this.

Ernsthaft? Es wird ja immer schlimmer! Ab in die Tonne mit dem Mist!

Holy double bass drum pedal is this awful...

Nope! No thank you

Please make it stop, this week has been long enough already. I've written enough about Slipknot lately. This is not for me. Still. This one has a few moments where they go from screamy music to emo music. It only makes it marginally better. Favorite song: Snuff Other: Psychosocial, Dead Memories, 'Till We Die 2/5/25

Nope. Can’t even get through this. Insulting to listen to and I am losing hearing every second I keep listening. What is this and why is it allowed to be on streaming platforms. NO.

I couldn't say enough bad things about whatever the actual fuck this group of children is.... so simply the word "unlistenable" is what I settled on. I got a minute into the first proper track and had to skip.... the 2nd song is the same... and the next...and... If you like anger for anger's sake in the guise of tuned down and turned up moronic cosplay this is for you! Which part? This type of machine gun processed kick drum - literally the first "music" you hear - is .... horrific. Cookie monster turned up to 11 and distorted even more? Eh what's the point Congrats! I think after 960 albums this is my most-hated album on the list and i could only make it through a minute of each song, max. "oh but that's cheating!" I hear the children of the corn yelling at me - OH YES because I'm sure something beautiful was to be uncovered once you crawl through the 500 yards of shit smelling foulness I'd find something so beautiful I can't even imagine.... ZEROS.

Maybe the worst music yet made by human beings. Besides sounding deeply unpleasant, it’s just poorly made by folks who seem both stupid and lazy. Zero stars.

Efter ha fått många bra plattor på raken så kom denna och förstörde min dag. Svår att ta sig igenom.

It went as soon as The List informed me that my eardrums were to be abused to over an hour by this dogshit.

Follows the formula: deep-voiced rage screaming, tight guitar and drums, rapid fire bass drum. Too much of all of it. Too little originality. Occasionally there’s an actual song with actual singing, and those few moments earn a star.

The „melodic“ stuff is boring, the „growly“ stuff isn’t growly enough and the lyrics feel like a gloomy teen‘s „deep“ ramblings in their diary.

Yeah, so, I've never been a fan of Slipknot. Never even heard a single song because I don't like metal. So take everything with a grain of salt. This is perfect Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008 music. I haven't looked up the soundtrack, but I would be so surprised if a song form this wasn't on either '08 or '09. Especially "Vendetta," that song sounds perfect for running down the ramp and putting Big Show in a chokehold. As I sat there and listened to "This Cold Black," I really had to think "What am I doing listen to this?" Its not enjoyable to listen to this. Its just noise. "Snuff" stuck out because it actually sounded like they cared about what it sounded and it wasn't just a cacophony of sounds thrown together with unintelligible yelling thrown on top. Would I ever listen to this again? Absolutely not.

Stuff like this is just so silly to me

Bloody awful, next!

So edgy I took a knife and cut myself because the world is dark and everything is violence and no one understands me...

Really not my thing, did make me laugh listening to it while drawing.

More mediocrity. Is this the theme song of people had nothing to offer but very do angry about having nothing yo offer that they decided to punish everyone else?

Did not enjoy.

This is a difficult listen, really tried to like it but it's just not it for me

I honestly didn't expect to dislike this as much as I did but I think it's really cemented the fact that I really dislike the majority of Nu Metal bands. It's some consolation that the members of Slipknot seem to also dislike this album. But then, why are we listening to it? I mean, it's better than Limp Bizkit but surely we can set the bar a bit higher, can't we? Well I doubt I'll be listening to Slipknot again. Unless... ah they've got another one on this list... alright, I'll try to keep an open mind when it comes along.

After putting myself through this all hope WAS gone. Just a wall of noise. How anybody can call this music is beyond me. Please no more metal. Next time I will skip it. Its where it belongs !

The angry cacophany of some Halloween sad boys. This is absolutely not my type of music, but I have actually enjoyed at least one Slipknot song before (Duality) - yet I took nothing from this. If you want to hear a drummer try to break the record for the number of consecutive kick drums in a minute, then this is the album for you. And then there's "Snuff", which is basically an emo song that serves to totally undermine the facade that these guys are scary monster men. How can the rest of the album be seen as in any way authentic artistic impression when that track is there? I don't get it - I think this whole Slipknot fandango is a sham. This type of music is just competing to see who can be the most unintelligible, the most melody-less, but they don't believe it - they want to make sad boy emo pop songs too, they're just caught up in their web of miserable lies. 1/5

Ok it has some semblence of tune, but it's really blast beats shredding and throaty howl vocals. Sure they're great live. 1.25

afraid it's a no from me

A terrible noise. I can't get anything out of this droning noise. I find machine noise more pleasant. Slipknot sounds as if the machine is broken. Unfortunately, there is no redeeming silence. So I had to stop playing after 3 minutes. 1/5

I got half way through the second song. Sorry, I find this music unlistenable.

Just not really my type of music. Bit hectic. 2/10

Is it shite? Absolutely, but we need to use more nuisance. This album is about 6 years after they were relevant. The inclusion of this is puzzling considering some of the albums missing . Just bad really

If I'm being honest, I don't really mind the Nu part of Nu Metal all that much. When this at least approaches lyrical or regular rock sounding I can get on board, like a Kid Rock album. Then the metal kicks in and I am all the way out. Toward the top of my metal rankings, but mostly because the Nu parts that are in there.

I actually struggled to finish this album. 2 songs in and I was getting ready to smash my keyboard in half. The singer did not get enough hugs growing up!!!!

Not a slipknot guy

The drummer was insane. I could only find one song I really liked. It was the melodic one.

I just don’t like the growling vocals music genre. The one song where the lead singer actually sang was not that bad. This album is certainly dark, though we have had worse.

I hope you didn’t have a headache before hand because that will be a long 58 minutes

This is a weird coincidence. My skiddy metalhead husband just saw Slipknot two days ago and they played the entirety of their debut album for that set. I rated that crap a 1 star and broke his heart. Today when I shared this album with him, he said he's actually not that familiar with it aside from one massive single. It's indecipherable from the first album for me, it still sucks. Too much creepy hatefulness. The masks are a gross gimmick. I'm not into it, and I never will be.

To call this bad music would be an insult to bad music.

Not for me.

cant do it….

Only positive is I now have a specific example of music I hate

As, apparently, is all pretence at musical talent… Honestly, I’ve puked better sounds than this.

Well, I started it and thought there were a few songs that I could possibly listen to again if I had to, but nothing that I enjoyed so far.

Well, isn't that special?

Ugly and annoying. Started a couple of the songs, but as soon as the enraged demon singing started I had to stop. So really, did not listen, but I wanted to get the chance to indicate the lowest possible rating.

I wanted to turn it off halfway through the first song, but I persevered and listened to the whole thing. So much unnecessary anger…don’t understand why anyone would seek this out.

Physically couldn’t listen to this whole thing, I’m sorry

Useless, much like its namesake knot.

Continuing my journey listening to these with my infant. She liked the parts with non-screamy vocals, and in general liked the instrumental portion of everything. That being said too much screamy. 1/5

Woof. This was tough to listen to. On the one hand incredible drums, some awesome guitar riffs. But also I had to drag myself through this album. I think for that alone it gets a 1, though it's more deserving of a 1.5

Couldn't make it through the first song.

They're absolutely fucking awful. Complete bottom of the barrel slop. Not just an embarrassment to metal but an embarrassment to music.

Overly Drummed, overly long, overly serious and overly dark.

All I hear is hate, rage, and anger. Not for me. Drums were awesome throughout.

Not a fan of this.

I'm just not going to listen to Slipknot. Knot sorry

Agreed. All hope is gone

30 seconds of this gave me a headache. NOPE.

Not sure why this album is here.

They've got the speed metal down. I don't like the screaming lyrics, I never have (except for a little bit in Linkin Park songs). Psychosocial: the guitar solos are just okay. They don't particularly inspire me. Dead Memories: finally! No screaming. I've listened to 9/15 songs and I'm so ready to be done with the album. I'm sure they're fine musicians but I want to rate this 1/5. Snuff: no screaming! This song is okay!

Nice chops, but not my thing.

I just can't get into this music...I tried really hard to be open minded to their anger, lyrics and music (each part individual) to try to understand but I just don't. In Psychosocial and Dead Memories they don't yell all the time, and honestly those part aren't terrible. If they did more of that maybe I could give it a 2, but the screaming is just overwhelming. But as is I would never choose to listen to them again.

Not for me

Careful not to cut yourself on that edge.

This sounds like a headache

Not my cup of tea

Blahhhhhhh I don't like this!!!!! Scary. Don't want to hear someone yell in my ear 'we will burn your cities down' I think they are making some points though? About America being bad? But the delivery is too much for me

All hope is gone indeed. I think I'd be slippin' a knot around my neck if I had to listen to much of this.

Nope. Only has a star as this was the only way to move on. Horrible aesthetic.

yeah i tapped out about halfway through this album not gonna lie

I wish I could give this negative stars.

definitely not something (band or album) i ever thought id listen to. its hard to imagine there being another album on this list that ill dislike this much but i suppose im ready to be surprised. age has done all hope is gone no favors. i dont think those first few songs were too bad but by track 5 this album sounded so rote. double bass drums, shitty guitar tones and riffs, corny sound effects, the most generic vocals youve ever heard (screaming, shouting, and singing). i wont say the anger on this album is inauthentic but compare this to something like converge. the music here is loud and the vocals sound mad but there are so many theatrics that make the whole thing feel performative. go listen to all converge - we love we leave behind instead. the intro+gematria are alright, solid mood and intensity though a lacking in punch. the breakdown on sulfur is kinda nuts, the riffs are tough, but those chorus vocals fucking suck. psychosocial has a metallica-ass riff and that group vocals chanting in the chorus is some dogshit but theres something to the rhythm section here that really works (probably something to do with the metallica ripoff) and honestly the chorus vocals have a good melody. why do they have a whole song of clean vocals for dead memories though, what is this mickey mouse shit with that god-awful guitar solo. i bet the chorus of vendetta went so hard in 2010's ESPN hype videos, i wouldve eaten this shit up when i was 12. by butchers hook im ready for this album to be over. the scooby doo noises on gehanna man. this cold black's vocal clipping may be this albums most interesting production choice, probably the albums best song overall. following it up with an anthem to nihilism just sucks, wherein lies continue is school shooter song. snuff is a legit brand new song, the guitar sounds awful on that solo but i enjoy the vocal performance here.

Yeah it's gonna be a Slip no for me, dawg.

If you like death metal you’ll like this. I don’t so I didn’t.

Heavy metal. Too heavy

metal album 1 star

Absolutely not.

Boy, wasn't one Slipknot album enough? I wish I could give this 0 stars.

Stupid music.

Eh not for me,😅

Awful, except for two songs: 'Snuff' and 'Vermillion, Pt. 2 - Bloodstone Mix' were actually pretty good. The other 13 songs were like torture. Full of screaming, yelling, profanity, etc. It reminded me of phone calls from a certain person in my life. I suspect I'll rate the album 1 star.

heavy gekreische.(.

Why tho?

Since I'm not an angry teenage white boy, I have no interest in this. After a couple of these songs, I understand why someone might reach for their assault rifle. The drums often sound like bullets being shot over a clic track. I imagine these songs would be in the headphones of a mass killer, timing his shooting to the drum fills like he's in a video game or a movie. I skimmed the album. At least they knew to change the grooves from song to song. There's musicianship here, but nothing I relate to. Can I give -10 stars?

It's bad. Nothing is noteworthy. Do not listen.

A mess!! Gutter attempt at Metallica without anywhere near the class!

Do not like Punk and Hardrock

Wow I hate this

the best i can say is i gave it a shot. it's not the worst thing i've had to listen to but i can really say it is not my favorite to come across my desk. really, it is just bottled up angst that is reflected in a way that my angst was not. i find it pretty unrelatable, and although i can be convinced on a lot of metal instrumentation, the growl vocals are something that never suit my music preferences. sorry to all my depressed friends from middle school but i didn't get it then and i still don't get it now.

AZZ. C'è "Dead Memories" che pare ascoltabile

Love the crunchy riffs but that stupid growling/shouting noise just spoils it. That vocal style is automatic 1-star territory.

Ei kyl millään jaksais toista levyä tältä bändiltä. todella raskaita myös nää siirtymät hevimmästä pop-rockiin.

Horrible.

When I signed up for weekend albums I knew it was a mistake. Here I am, sitting in the parking lot waiting for my kids dance class to end, listening to Slipknot. A lot of All Hope Is Gone is much more radio friendly than expected. Coming from someone who likes sad music and heavy music…. This is too much. It almost feels like a parody of itself. I truly feel bad for anyone can relate to this, which I imagine is only teenage boys. Hope you get some help 2.5/10

Beyond terrible.

\"The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope. The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope. The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope, and the Pope said to his aide: 'Who the fuckin' hell is Slipknot? Who the fuckin' hell is Slipknot? Who the fuckin' hell is Slipknot in relation to me getting out of bed?'\" (Half Man Half Biscuit) 'Nuff said.

Dog shit album, hated it. 0/10

In. What. World. Do I - or anyone - need to listen to this before I die? There’s a very good reason that I haven’t listened to these guys in 25 years

Couldn’t finish it. Not my thing

Verschrikkelijk geschreeuw.

Sorry, I just can't with this shit today. I did listen to the whole insipid thing though for some reason. 1 star. Ever since I reached my 1,001st album about 2 weeks ago I've been getting mostly mediocre albums. Just a coincidence I suppose but I'm ready for something I actually enjoy.

I like some metal, I really do. I will listen to the iron maiden album again, but I just couldn't get through this one. I am not saying they caused the headache I still can't get rid of after 24 hours, but I'm not saying they didn't.

I don't want to listen to this kinda stuff

Well that was shit.

I can understand how fans of the genre would like this, and I actually didn’t mind the parts with actual singing. But overall, not my cup of tea. “Snuff” is weirdly out of place.

This album's called "All Hope Is Gone," which is apt, since it's probably playing on a loop in Hell. Hot garbage. No thanks.

I never liked Slipknot and I never will. Most metal like this is shit whether you call it alternative metal, groove metal or nu metal. Growling and boring shredding of guitar. Get the fuck outta here.

Ohh.. what the f… so bad

These guys aren't for me.

Zoveel mensen die dit goed vinden, maar ik kan er echt helemaal niks mee.

All Hope Is Gone.

I didn’t have high hopes for 72 minutes of what I could only assume would be death metal, and my expectations (or lack thereof) were well warranted. Needless to say, I did not listen for 72 minutes. Not even a minute into this hell, I thought I might’ve been experiencing symptoms of Havana Syndrome. I had to pause just to make sure. In “Sulfur,” the singer sounds like he’s foaming at the mouth. If you’ve ever made eye contact with this guy I’d suggest you get a rabies shot immediately. Truthfully, I could not listen much past this point. It’s been a while since I’ve given out just one star, but All Hope Is Gone fits squarely in the bottom tier of albums we’ve heard. Slipknot belongs in our arsenal reserved for intense psychological warfare. Blasting “Welcome to the Jungle” in Panama in 1989 would have nothing on blasting this album around the Kremlin in 2023. Does anybody have any Q-tips?

Not my thing

can't get on board with this

Can’t do screams

More like Shitnut

I can't stand this. I'm getting a headache listening to this dude scream.

Laughably bad. So generic, unoriginal and talentless. How did they think in 2008 they could churn this out? It's been done before by better bands. Maybe the braindead teens in their bedrooms don't realise that and think it's novel and cutting edge? Reading the reviews after writing the above I'm relieved that it's not just me.

This record is garbage lol

Really not my cup of tea haha

These guys must be really tired after playing so frenetically and angrily and for so long. One thinks it would best for them (and for all past and future listeners) if they gave it a rest. Like permanently. 0/5

Wanted to give this a chance, since I remember how much some of my friends loved this band in middle school. So I gave it a chance.

All hope is gone that I take this list seriously now. A personal memory: I saw Slipknot headlining one night of the Furyfest / Hellfest metal festival in France back in the naughts, and it was one night to remember. The festival audience had learned that the band had turned up late for the soundcheck in the early afternoon, and that they had used most of the soundcheck slots of the other smaller bands playing that day to rehearse their show. Which prevented those other bands to do the same, obviously. Apart from Slipknot's young and naive fans, the slightly more mature general audience of that festival was not pleased by that rumour, as you can imagine. And so Slipknot got the welcome they supposedly deserved when they started to play. Angry metalheads and hardcore punk kids put their hands on everything they could find at the festival locale--stones, cans, even bottles of piss!--and threw them on the stage while Slipknot was playing. An acquaintance working at the festival later told us that among the rubbish littering the stage right after the band left it, someone even found a f*cking dead rabbit. A dead rabbit! Pretty fitting for the band's aesthetics, I'd say. I gotta give it to Slipknot, though, they still gave a great show, objectively speaking. Even with their masks on, you could sense the band didn't care about the dangerous situation, and they even took advantage of it, adding their own craziness to the whole disaster. Whenever he could, their frontman kept giving middle fingers to the pissed-off festival members, clearly enjoying the whole thing while avoiding the projectiles as he played--therefore proving Slipknot were solid performers through and through, even under those pretty adverse circumstances. This can't make up for the rock-star bullshit, but that justifies the admiration of some other fans, I guess... To return to *All Hope Is Gone*, it's more satisfying for me to share that little anecdote than to describe this album painstakingly trying to renew Slipknot's sound almost a decade after that nu-metal thing took over the world (and then faded into oblivion). The band tries to play as many different cards as they can to move their sound further--classic trash metal / death metal on "Gematria" ; System Of A Down-related dynamics on "Sulfur" ; cheesy pop choruses on "Psychosocial" ; a metal version of Depeche Mode for "Dead Memories" (via Mike Shinoda/Linkin' Park, maybe?) ; or a classic metal ballad à la "Nothing Else Matters" with "Snuff" ; not to mention the band's already aging nu-metal routine for most of the other cuts... But literally everything falls flat, because there's nothing that Slipknot offers here that hasn't been done better ten times before. Including by them sometimes, very ironically. Those musicians are very skilled players and performers, of course. But that's not enough to consider *All Hope Is Gone* as "essential". If anything, this album looks a little like that stage I talked about earlier, at least once the show was over. It's a topsy-turvy arrangement of rubbish that neither makes sense nor suggests a truly visceral experience. Because everything important was said and done *before* that moment. A *dead* rabbit for sure. :) To put it in a nutshell, maybe it would make more sense to include Slipknot's 1999 eponymous album in the list, thanks to its more iconic tracks on the first side ("sic", "Eyeless", "Wait And Bleed"...). That choice would at least be more preferable than this later overdone and rather laborious LP. As some reviewers rightly said here (including initial fans of the band), the 1001 Albums book's strange "compromise" that saw its authors select this later full-length release won't satisfy a lot of people anyway, whether they are sincere fans of the band or not. And the global score is here to prove it. 1/5 for the purposes of this list, which translates to a 6/10 grade for more general purposes (5 + 1). Next, please. Number of albums left to review: 508 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 236 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 114 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 145 (including this one)

Not for me, although I did hear Corey’s versatile voice change in one sentence from growl/scream to relatively pleasant US rock singing. Kudos Corey!

Listened to about a minute from another room and that was plenty. Absolutely not my jam

No thank you

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

Not a fan at all, just not for me
