This was fine I liked the style of music that all sounded similar and was long
I remember the first song from the opening intro cinematic from Gorod Krovi in Black Ops 3 Zombies, so that's my favorite song. The lead singer's voice got on my nerves after a while. I can tell that man smoked a lot of meth during the creation of this album, they were not okay when they made this. For the world of metal, this feels like a breakthrough.
This is fine. It's just Motorhead isn't it. Well, everything is fine apart from Jailbait. Oof, that wasn't an easy listen
That bass sounds so pissed off.
Every song sounds exactly the same (and thats ok) there is 1.... really, really fucked up song in here Best Song: Ace of Spades Rating: 6.5/10 Stars: 3
Fairly neutral on this one. Slight skew towards the downside, but not enough to fall to a 2.
I'm only going to rate the first 13 tracks of the 27 "deluxe edition", the extra hour of extra credit is for the dedicated listener's independent study. Comment 1 - the production and mix is poor, with everything a bit distant and thin, full left/full right pan balance on things. Fatiguing. It sounds like studio work without the live cohesive sound of a band playing in unison. Comment 2 - (We Are The) Roadcrew was a high point. Jailbait was a low point (Yes, I recognize it was [likely] an attempt at humor). This grew on me as it progressed. Wasn't love, but shifted up in the 3s.
Fun guitarwork and good energy! My favourite was Fire Fire.
This is the sound of my childhood and is peak Motörhead. It’s the tight, sharp sound of early heavy metal. “Ace of Spades” still sounds incredible - even if it does remind me of The Young Ones - and it keeps up, into “Shoot You in the Back” and “Live to Win.” Eventually though, I remember why I wouldn’t be a complete metal head - it all starts to be a bit samey: not in a consistent sounding way, a “this could be the same song” sounding way.
Listening to this album was like eating a dozen donuts. The first one was so good, you can’t wait to eat the second but each marginal donut gets less and less appealing and by the end of it you don’t want another donut for a couple months.
I like this better than most hard rock/metal that would come out over the following decade. That's not a huge hurdle to jump, but I still appreciate the authenticity. (Even if some of the lyrics get ick.)
What a ball kicker of an opener. Only complaints: - it doesn't really vary from there - the grossness isn't just evident on Jail Bait but also 'The Chase is Better than the Catch' with the memorable line 'I like a little innocent bitch' - and somehow, the grossness feels a little try-hard? I mean, his wiki says he slept with 1,000 but if like half of those were teens it says more about what insecurity drives being incapable of interacting with adult women I can see the through line Queens and Foo Fighters and I'm sure others, and could even enjoy *some* of this in small doses. But the enjoyment is tempered the moment you listen to more than two songs and how persistently juvenile it actually is underneath it all.
Lemmy’s great but most songs sound the same.
It's pretty generic rock. I genuinely don't remember any of it after listening to it
First time listening to Motorhead... All I know about 'em comes from that Ministry documentary. This was a really okay album, probably just not my thing... couldn't FULLY get into it, but I have to admit it has some pretty great bangers, LONG LIVE MOTORHEAD. 3 stars and a half
Was expecting to hate this and was surprised. Some great guitar work.
Pure energy. I wonder if you could call this progressive rock because each track bleeds into the next and they all have the same level of energy. Most of the songs pretty much sound similar, I didnt know the album was close to being finished because I thought only a few songs had played. Overall would return to this. Ace of Spades is an all time song.
It's fine I just don't like how long it is.
Not for me but I can see the appeal for some.
They leaned hard into whatever it was they were doing
Starts with an iconic songs and never reaches those heights again. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.
It’s okay but there was no songs that I really liked

05/03/2026 *1. ace of spades - vaguely know this one already... like the guitar and drums! do not know how i feel about the vocals.... guitar solo is really nice! love the energy... real nice ending :) *2. love me like a reptile - liking the start.... ashamed to say how much i'm enjoying this one lol. was not excited for this album when it showed up! *3. shoot you in the back - like the lyrics more on this one :) guitar and drums have been great throughout! 4. live to win - still liking it, but kindof sounds the same as the other songs. not as bad as i was expecting though! 5. fast and loose - lyrics are a little bit weird/chauvinist male rock. not looking forward to whatever jailbait is though...... still sounds nice though :) 6. (we are) the roadcrew - not as big a fan of this one... like the distorted guitar near the end. 7. fire fire - nice, but it's all kindof blending into one. loved the guitar still! 8. jailbait - not looking forward to this one.... did not expect it to be so explicit about being noncey..... as nice as it sounds, it leaves a very slimey impression... would not listen to this one again. 9. dance - nice, same as the others really :) *10. bite the bullet - liking the start more... great! 11. the chase is better than the catch - bit tired of this album now. still not massive on the vocals, but a lot better than the usual metal vocals i was expecting..... 12. the hammer - as much as i didn't hate this album, i'm not upset about it ending either. not bad though! a lot punkier than i expected, which was a nice suprise! wasn't looking forward to this as i would generally class metal as my least favourite genre of music ever, but a lot rockier. the poorly aged (probably not great when they were written either) lyrics sometimes leave a sour taste, along with not having much substance, and it becomes a bit monotonous when listening to the album as a whole.
Gritty, raw, and very influential in the metal scene. Makes for good driving music, but Lemmy’s vocals get to me after a few tracks.
3.5
Jailbait is controversial, but overall it’s a solid and bad ass album. Lemmy rocks
Jailbait is completely rancid song, but otherwise most of this bleeds together into a lot of nothing too terrible.
Ace of Spades by Motörhead hits hard with speed, aggression, and raw intensity right out of the gate. The power of the instrumentation is undeniable, and the title track especially delivers a punch. However, Lemmy’s gravel-soaked vocals quickly became grating to my ears. After a few songs, I found myself wondering if he prepared for recording sessions by gargling whiskey and razorblades. The abrasive tone may be part of the band’s appeal, but for me, it exposed every last nerve in my brain rather than enhancing the experience. Lyrically, the recurring references to his sexual escapades also wore thin. What might have been intended as rebellious or provocative instead felt excessive, to the point that certain images lodged themselves in my mind and refused to leave—leaving me wishing for a bucket of bleach to rinse my brain clean. Shock value only goes so far before it starts to feel repetitive. That said, I didn’t hate the album. The musicianship is solid, and there are moments I genuinely enjoyed. But as a complete package, it’s not something I feel compelled to revisit. Music is deeply personal, and while I can respect Motörhead’s influence, their sound—particularly Lemmy’s vocal style—just isn’t for me.
Good rock fun here. Ace of Spades is the best track.
Dig the vocals
I didn’t think I’d like this but it was it alright
Classic Metal. Possibly Motorheads best offering. Although track number 8: (which I won't name in case I end up on some sort of watch list )😬 🤣 bit dodgy that. Overall good album.
Musically it’s good, full of driving energy. Unfortunately, beyond the title song, the rest were fairly mediocre if not bad. 3/5
Musicwise not that special, but you can't overstate the influence of this band
No complaints here, this was a lot of fun.
Lemmy’s voice gets a little monotonous after a while as he sings at literally one tone, but you can’t deny the rock on this one. Some of the lyrical content hasn’t aged well (jailbait 😬), but still a face melting classic.
Started well but got very samey
bit too long
Not bad, but it did sound all quite similar. 2.5/5
“Ace Of Spades” is one of the all-time great rock & roll songs. It is everything rock & roll should be- it starts at full force, never relents even an inch, and it’s under 3 minutes long. For that reason Motörhead will always be royalty… even though they might be the least good famous band to ever exist. Seriously, and I say this with love, Motörhead is like an even lower-brow version of Slade or AC/DC and I suppose that’s an accomplishment all on its own. That little bit of punk rock really does a lot to punch up the ‘party rock’ sound. This is a fun album except that the ‘sex with minors’ stuff kinda dampens the vibes. Maybe you could curate a Motörhead playlist though? Please just do it better than that live Motörhead album I listened to a few months ago which sounded like 8 attempts at recreating “Ace Of Spades”. I guess that’s better than 8 versions of “Jailbait”, but it still gets tiresome after 30 minutes.
Honestly better than most, if not all of the 80s metal bands. Might be my favourite from the era after listening to this. There’s at least a consistency in their music vs Metallica and Anthrax.
One great song and then riffs off that one great song for another half hour.
The space of ades
Drags on too long. And it’s not even a long album. 2.5/5
I think I've noted my love for Ace of Spades (the song) previously. Maybe it's fond memories of The Young Ones. Anyway, I think I liked this studio album a bit more than the live one (although "Jailbait" - dodgy as fuck).
Fun but repetitive
Tony Hawk you will always be famous.
I had a live album from Motorhead a while back and gave it 4/5 which sort of surprised me. I know I've heard this album but it isn't really something I would listen to normally. Ace of Spades is a great song. What it is about Lemmy's awful voice that works so well? And his bass tone is always amazing. The lyrics throughout this entire album are laughable. So juvenile and dumb. Don't even get me started on Jailbait. The title of that song alone should be a big red flag. Shows how much the times have changed and I think that's a good thing. Other than Ace of Spades I don't think I would listen to any of this album again. I don't know, maybe my tastes have matured, maybe I'm old and grumpy. This kind of rock just doesn't do it for me. Lemmy was a hell of a bass player though, that's for sure. Unlike any other. 2.75/5.
2026.01.20.
Good rock, terrible lyrics, decent sound, 100% lemmy, more fun on guitar hero
Yeah this was a no.

Svårt att bestämma mig. Det är habilt rock i grunden. Ace of spades är ju grym.
Stark trea.
ace of spades is a great opener....immediately high energy, very instrument heavy, but can already tell that this album will not make much of an impact on me....... deeply musically talented for sure (the guitar!? the drums!??), maybe fun to see live or listen to on a roadtrip? hmmm the albums we've been getting just feel so painfully similar.... fun, intense lead ins.....like fast and loose
album cover is killing me some cool guitar, i can rock w it, liked more than i expected/cld see it growing on me but probs wldn’t reach for this album, liked the alternative versions more for a lot of these lol standouts: (we are) the roadcrew love me like a reptile (purely bc name) dance
"We are the Roadcre" is amazing. That's it.
One dimensional sleazy rock n roll. This is better than Hammerstein and the early catalog. But its nothing really unique or special. The production value is pretty high on these 80's motorhead albums which makes em more enjoyable. 4 stars for the man. Lemmy 🤘
Act of Spades instantly brings back hours and days if playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 in my college dorm.
3/5 fav songs: ace of spades, fire fire, the hammer I did quite enjoy this album, though it did start to feel a bit samey.
Very good
Leather required.
Man I really wanted to enjoy this album. I thought it would bring me so much nostalgic joy. It really did not work for me. I found it so boring. It really did not age well. It just feels uninspired.
I love Lemmys vocals- they were a crossover band for me, as I was into Punk in the 70s, Ace of spades is a great track, particularly “live” - I listened to this album on the way to Football yesterday, it’s good and not too heavy
Only here because of the first song, the rest of the album sounds like worse versions of that song. Not offensive or anything like that, but also not remarkable or great.
Olihan siinä meininkiä.
Very cool but many skips🥲
Look, I know it's a trick question and Lemmy is God, but this just gets real samey real fast. Also, "I'm in your life, I might be in your wife" is a fantastic line.
Like the energy. Some of the songs are lacking something and can be a bit repetitive. Overall a good hard rock album. 3/5 Might listen again
I really liked some songs to an extent that surprised me (because Motorhead have influenced so many other bands I can't stand). I love the raw, stripped down power trio energy. I bet this band was incredible live. But also, this album contains some all-time dumb lyrics. Whenever I could make out what Lemmy was saying, it sounded very Spinal Tap-esque.
Lemmy is not god….good player and songwriter but things started sounding very similar as the album went along. Ace of spades is a banger of a track but other than that not overly impressed
I really like Ace of Spades. Love me Like a Reptile was good, Road Crew. driving hard rock. thunderous compared to contemporaries like ACDC or Zepplin. and only 3 of em.
Would’ve been 5 stars but then that song jail bait came on. Pretty dusty lyrics from a 35 year old. Eww.
Liked it more than I thought I would.
Notable heavy metal contribution and the guitair in particular shines and love the wild riffs as you go along. Common complaint but the vocals are cool but they are mono. If you then overlay that with the music it kind of rolls you along on the same pattern. Its never bad but it does make the appeal fade over the course of the album. No problem with the album, style or frantic nature of it. I just dont think enough here to elevate it to a great.
Its frenetic, loud and sounds like a chain smoker riding a Harley Davidson. It doesn't let up in intensity throughout the whole album. I quite like it, because I am well aligned with the genre, but I can't help thinking there is an obvious lack of refinement with this album. It's fun, and I would certainly enjoy any given track in isolation. A whole album of it gets a bit samey though.
Always partial to a bit of Motörhead. Distant cousins of Husker Du. Melodie’s buried beneath the onslaught. It’s very good but a bit one trick.
I loved the instruments but the vocals weren’t really my style. It did feel slightly repetitive in my opinion.
Ace of Spades is a great song and all the other songs on this album are just like Ace of Spades...except not as good.
It's loud, it's legendary, but it's not my fav
Enjoyed the sound, lyrics & singing not so much! Don’t see this as a classic album.
classic
Ok up-tempo rock.
Kinda cool. Rocky
They do what they do quite well. The problem is I have never particularly liked what they do. They weren't my thing in period and, after a re-listen this morning, they're still not. 3/5.
++: Ace of Spades, Shoot You in the Back, Jailbait, Dance, The Chase Is Better Than the Catch, The Hammer +: Love Me Like a Reptile, Live to Win, Fast and Loose, Fire, Fire, Bite the Bullet +-: (We Are) the Road Crew 7,6/10
This album rocks.
Love “Ace of Spades” but this gets really formulaic really fast.
Not really my thing. Favorite was (We Are) The Roadcrew
Pleasantly surprised
VERY questionable lyrics in a lot of the tracks but Lemmy's bass sounds like a chainsaw chewing through a power grid. Pure greasy rock n roll
Better than I thought
Entertaining but trashy. I liked it until the track Jailbait which was horrid and creepy.
Sure, I'll admit most of these songs sound the same, and "The Chase is Better Than the Catch" is an abysmal track, but I do like the energy of motor motorhead songs and Lemmys vocals. 3/5
I like his voice so much
Great old school rock
Enjoyed more than I thought I would
Pretty cool probably like a 3.5. I didn't know any songs besides ace of spades but I can see the influence this had on other bands specifically kill em all by Metallica
The best word to describe Motörhead is "pummeling." Their songs flow from verse to chorus to guitar solo with no breaks in between, just heavy riffs into shredding and then back. The one-line chorus of "We Are the Road Crew" stands out because it's maybe the only time the band stops to catch their breath. Is there a ton of variety here? No. Does it matter? Only a bit. Sometimes I'm looking for music that satisfies the monkey part of my brain, and unrelenting riffs and lyrics about being a badass work perfectly for that. Still, I wouldn't say that this album does anything that's truly amazing - outside of the title track none of these riffs really stick with me - and while it was heavy for its time it's been out-pummeled since. This is on the edge of a 3 and a 4 but that plus some of the lyrics bump this to a 3.
A hundred times better than any ACDC record, and just as predictible.
Metal just isn’t for me. Wasn’t bad tho
Maybe "1001 albums and/or singles you should listen to before you die" wouldn't have been such a bad idea either. Have a wild guess as to which song I'm talking about.
First three tracks are great but the rest sound the same and boring
I like the lead singers voice and the songs were good. Now I know who Motörhead is.
Huh, would've never guessed that Motörhead was originally from London. Anyway, "Ace of Spades" (the song) kicks ass, but I'm curious about the rest of the album. Pretty formulaic, macho hard rock. Some weird tracks content-wise too ("Love Me Like a Reptile", "Jailbait"). Hey, it's was the 80's I guess. I can see how this album maybe could have set the table for thrash metal given the tempo and energy displayed in each track.
Rock and Roll!
Sounds like an inferior Thin Lizzy. It has its place and I can understand immature young men enjoying its energy. I found its lack of melody annoying.
Good album to work out to as the entire thing is super high energy. The lyrics are strongly about sex and rebellion. My big issue is that the songs all bleed into one another with little variance. Hell, Ace of Spades and Fire Fire are the same guitar lick, just in reverse. And then there’s Jailbait which not age well at all.
Ace of Spades
Okay, but kind of repetitive.
Good not great though. I personally prefer Overkill over Ace of Spades
7.71/10 pretty solid, your typical 80s heavier rock. liked fire fire :) 3.5/5 3/5
Musically and lyrically it should be a straight one, but it's pure id music and Lemmy was an icon. It's fun. It's the epitome of hard rock. And Ace of Spades (the song) is a classic for a reason
who cares
Best Track - "Ace Of Spades"
Grows and grows on me, 6/10
Motörhead is a 4 star band with 3 star albums.
Good for an angsty mood or a really fast walk Most of the songs sound the same 5/10
It's fast, it's trashy, it's Möterhead. A fun album for sure, but not one of the metal scene most essential listens for me. The licks though ar surprisingly versatile.
We already reviewed that Motorhead live album, so why is this also essential? Pick one. Mr. Dimery seems to enjoy redundancy and doing the same things over and over again.
some heavy music, good record, title track is a banger
Fun heavy metal sound, funny topics “Jailbait”. Overall not a bad listen, but not one I’m likely to revisit again.
Man, Motörhead took speed metal and ran with it. There wasn't anyone else on the scene at the time doing it like them. This album just goes hard, nonstop, from start to finish. I definitely feel like this album is where Motörhead peaked; nothing else they ever did quite touched this album. My main complaint about the live album of theirs included on this project was that everything sounded the same. I'm not going to say that issue necessarily goes away here, but I will say the tracks all feel a little bit more individualized in a studio setting.
Auch Stücke wie „(We Are) The Road Crew“, „Jailbait“ oder „Love Me Like a Reptile“ spiegeln die Themen Glücksspiel, Leben auf Tour und kompromisslose Haltung wider. Die Direktheit des Albums wirkt bis heute frisch, auch wenn nicht alle Songs die ikonische Strahlkraft des Titelstücks erreichen. Insgesamt bleibt es ein Dokument der ungebremsten Energie von Motörhead und markiert ihren endgültigen Durchbruch.
If the Motörhead were gamblers instead of musicians, they would be awful because they kept nothing up their sleeves. A bulldozer of an album, nuance be damned.
So fun. Ahead of it's time and classic all at once. Would listen again.
Didn’t listen again but had heard before. Love a couple of the tracks and the overall sound
THE ACE OF SPADES!!!!!!!!!!11!
The first track was fine. And then it was like the same song over and over.
So gritty. These songs go hard, but kind of all sound the same to me.
Motörhead’s Ace of Spades is a classic. They don’t mix it up a whole lot though; the record stays at pretty much one tempo and it’s pretty much one-dimensional lyrically. Motörhead has always seemed pretty unapologetic about the whole “sex, drugs, and rock n roll” vibe. But I actually appreciate that about them. The guitars are fun and raw, Lemmy sounds like he’s straining while taking a dump throughout, and the whole thing sounds like the soundtrack to a barroom brawl. Surprisingly tight musicianship too. Though it’s not something that I want to throw on repeat over and over, it’s a pretty fun record that I’ll revisit from time to time. 3.6/5
1980. Prime speed and thrash metal. More gritty than punk metal. Pretty solid throughout without going overboard.
-1 for making me listen to Jailbait. Felt like a creep listening to that.
Fun album, great guitar solos, ignore the lyrics and have a good time. Wouldn’t consider it to be an album you need to listen to before you die, and couldn’t remember any standout bangers, so brought it down to a 3 for me.
6.5/10
track 1, ace of spades: 2/5 track 2, love me like a reptile: 2/5 track 3, shoot you in the back: 3/5 track 4, live to win:4.5/5 track 5, fast and loose: 2/5 track 6, (we are) the road crew: 2/5 track 7, fire fire: 2.5:5 track 8, jailbait: 1.5/5 track 9, dance:1/5 track 10, bite the bullet: 3/5 track 11, the chase is better than the catch: 2/5 track 12, the hammer: 4/5 overall it’s a solid rock album and it’s exactly what i expected i give it a 3/10. lemmys a legend. always forever!

More (actual) rock and metal, plz
Lemmy. Bass. Rock and Roll.
Z plusem
Was not familiar with this band. Probably wouldn’t willingly listen again. I’m just learning that Metal is not the genre for me. I’m trying to pick at least one song on each album that stands out. On this album it was Fire Fire and Dance. Also this was a 2 disc set. Most of Disc 2 was alternate versions of the songs from Disc 1. I skipped that part.
The title track is a classic but the rest of the album never quite lives up to it. Decent production and the band are clearly performing at a high level but I think Overkill edges this one and strangely Bomber has a couple more stand out tracks. I have the 12" single but not the album which maybe sums it up but it is still worth hearing.
This ranges from great, The Ace of Spades, to creepy, Jailbait.
I love that this album cover explains exactly what is going to happen (at least on the first track, haven't listened to the album): outlaw rebel freedom with a weird neo-western edge that I can't properly articulate. On the other hand, as a German speaker I almost want to deduct a star just for the purely aesthetic use of an umlaut. Is 1001 albums gonna make a metalhead out of me? There have been some real duds (GNR if they count, Pantera, Korn), but Sabbath is putting the team on its back. Let's see if they'll get some support. Listening notes: -Ace of Spades is just such a rollicking good time -Love you like a reptile: why do I hate it when GNR is horny but think this rocks? I mean, it's definitely overdoing it and the song would be better if they took 15% off here, but it's still fun! (and my goodness, the biology here: reptiles don't love by sinking their fangs into each other! unless they're kinky reptiles. And electric Eels aren't reptiles!) -Shoot you in the back: fantasy is to Black Sabbath what westerns are to motorhead. Alas, Black Sabbath does more with it, but this still rocks. -I straight-up love the raspy vocals that sound like this guy's headed for a nasty bout of the flu. What's wrong with me. -Jailbait: this song hasn't started yet, but that's not a good sign in the title. Oh shit this really sucks. Why do all men from before like 1990 have these songs? I guess this is what I get when I ask for music that feels like it has a wanton disregard of the law, but man fuck this. The past is a different country with different values: a shitty different country with shitty different values. -Fast and loose. Okay "reptile" was good. This one is too much. -We are the road crew: I'm not sure how much they realize what they're doing here, but this is an interesting track about how terrible the life these guys live is for them. Alcoholism, women realizing that these men suck. I guess the road crew is the employees of the band. Which makes this much worse. Review: I'm an environmental economist, and this album made me want to burn so much gasoline for no reason at all. Noting that this came out a year after Mad Max. Yeah. I have trouble always understanding what GNR sucks and this doesn't, but this feels authentically dirty, where GNR feels like pre-ripped jeans: manufactured lawlessness. That said the horniness, which feels sleazy in a good way rather than too much of 80s horniness which is just gross (don't ask me to explain this), is still way too much. First off, the fetishization of teenagers is always gross. I always feel weird noting repugnant songs like this and being like "minus one star for sex crimes", but it's not like me giving a review that doesn't reflect my view of the album is some meaningful punishment. Second, 2 of these songs (for my money, love me like a reptile and fire, fire) is more than enough. And the random casual mentions ("I'm in your wife on the hammer"). Just. dial. it. back. a. little. (and don't do crimes) Maybe my evolving view of this album is it starts with the "glory" of totally reckless, careless living. How powerful it feels to live without regard for laws, norms, or morals. But as the album runs on, it (unintentionally) seems to show the accreting damage this carelessness causes: it's really cool driving dangerously, gambling recklessly, and sleeping with all these women. For four tracks. But then things start building up: your road crew is strung out, you're messing around with underage women, you're burning out. But you convince yourself it still feels great, and you push it aside and just dance (track nine). Then in the last few tracks, things really seem to be falling apart, and you realize "the chase is better than the catch" and the reckless living you've pursued so long is not good--that said at this point they don't see a way to turn back. They close with a song about having more or less become the villains, even as they don't seem to realize how fucked up things have gotten. But I'm pretty sure none of that is self-aware. This is a very interesting album about the unbridled pursuit of hedonistic pleasure. And how it leads to a hellish existence. Hell of a move to unironically write an album in which your life ends up looking like Blood Meridian and you think it's cool. But I do like Blood Meridian, and the start is so strong here. I could easily see giving this album literally any rating--depending on how much writer's intent matters, how much overinterpretation I do, etc., but I'm going with 3 stars. lol why did I write this much?
This is a solid hard rock/punk album. Nothing too spectacular as far as lyrics and composition, but it’s fun. Doesn’t suck.
Motörhead is one of those bands that has like one maybe two kickass tunes on a record and then the rest is just filler.
Fine. They're at least honest about what they sound like unlike a lot of these other fakeass "hardcore hard rock heavy metal" bands
Music is great. Lyrics on some songs are a bit daft. Favourite song is still Ace of Spades 3/5
The lowest of 3s. Share comments on Jailbait. Otherwise much as I mildly enjoyed listening, every single song bar 1 or 2 sounded exactly the same.
Started strong but then flatlined for me
Ace of spades (the song) is amazing. It was a shame the album starts with that as everything else gets compared to it. And everything else falls short. Some of the early tracks are pretty good, but as it goes on so much of it feels like a pastiche to ace of spades... Then jailbait drops. Man, I hate the "it was a different time" schtick, it's grim listening regardless of the instrumentation. Plus it rips off Alice Cooper's schools out something rotten, which I'm sure was a deliberate school reference, but somehow Sully's the superior song by association. After that the album never reaches any heights worthy of pulling it out of that mire. Such a shame following the stellar opening track.
A lot of good riffs at the start but then they barely use them in the songs and the songs sound kinda the same
Good just bad lyrics 3/5
With every passing song I turned more and more into a beer-gut having, long bearded, wife-beater wearing, sweaty, hairy man. In a good way. I feel like the album ebodies - sonically and lyrically - what Rock`n`Roll meant back then. Living hard and fast. The lyrics are definitely nothing to write home about (much more something to write the police about, cough cough Jailbait), but it works for the songs. It does get a little repetitive though. You can undeniably tell how much this album influenced a lot of early thrash and speed metal bands, so in that respect definitely an essential album. My favorite songs probably are The Roadcrew and, as basic as it might be, Ace of Spades. 6.5/10??
every song sounds the same
You've got to love Lemmy. This album has no real polish or intelligence but it's a great energy. Some of it sucks hard but Ace of Spades is a perfect opener. Good to have on the list. A classic but not perfect.
Some good old fashioned rock and roll but one problematic track brings the score down
While everything was good, it felt much much longer than 35 mins. Good but not life changing
solid, quick, and heavy. went out and achieved exactly what they were looking for. if i could give half stars it’d be a 3.5 so we’ll settle for a high 3
helvíti hresst og skemmtilegt. leika hratt enda á gonnanum. 3,5.
Lotsa fun with Lemmy !
Ok, but the songs are quite similar throughout
That's some perfectly serviceable heavy metal from Mr Kilmister et al.
Ace of Spade is one of the best rock songs of all time... the rest of the album is ok.
Lyrics are obviously not Motörhead's strong suit. Their music and Lemmy's voice really works though. Plenty of good guitar riffs to go around. The highlight was "Ace of Spades", the low point was "Jailbait" which made me quite uncomfortable. It started to get a bit samey after a while, luckily the runtime is quite short so it doesn't overstay its welcome. Strong 3 stars.
Motorhead-y.
Big yikes! (I kinda liked this)
okay FINE - I'll download Motörhead's discography when i get home from work
2.75
-1 for Jailbait 🤢
I dug the sound for the first couple tracks but then it just kept going on and on as if the whole record was one unending song.
Straight-up rocking with cool riffs, but vocally not for me.
the definition of dad rock for me (and my dad never listened to this) oh wow jailbait is a song lol
Ace of Spades (We Are) The Road Crew
I like the "Ace of Spades" itself, but I'm not a huge fan of Motorhead in general so I don't find this album interesting and entertaining for me
super fun rock record, except for some of the lyrics have aged awfully and are pretty tough to listen to in present time, namely Jailbait (how many rock artists had a song about this, jesus christ) and The Chase is Better Than the Catch. no real reason to revisit those ever again, i need a shower. but otherwise, straight-ahead rock and roll that goes pretty hard. i do wish mix-wise there was a lot more low end though, it feels kind of anemic at times.
That's some pretty firm rock there. Be a foundation for something great, someday. 3/5
Motörhead is cool and fun but does get repetitive especially since a number of these tracks were already on the Live at Hammersmith album on this list.
There are some really fun songs on here, but by the end of the record, it's completely derivative of itself. I like the production and the performances for the most part - Lemmy's voice is definitely an acquired taste. But the lyrics - holy shit. I don't know if the "it was a different time" argument can save y'all here. Good lord. 7/10
6.5/10
it was all right metal, i'm not a huge fan of the genre but this wasnt bad by any means
Good record, but not great. I feel the mixing especially on side 1 is extremely muddy, especially between the drums, bass and Lemmy's vocals, the low end lacks depth. Even on their biggest hit, its always felt that way to my ears. This pulls the punch in a big way for me. Some great somngs on this record which are under appreciated, but also there's "Jailbait" which...ick. But "Roadcrew", "Dance", and "The Chase Is Better than The Catch" are all excellent songs.
Title track is as epic as ever! As much as I like fast rock, the rest of the album feels samey. Blissfully ignoring the topical pubescent lyrics. 😬
This thing has one speed, one sound and at one volume. Definitely has a place but not really my thing.
Well, *this* is definitely a blast from the past. I'm not sure I ever realized back in the day that Motörhead was just a trio, which kind of explains why they always sounded a bit thin compared to other metal bands of the time (mainly because there weren't two guitars, I guess?). I was never a big Motörhead fan back then, and while this is undoubtedly their best album, or at least most popular, listening to it now doesn't really increase my appreciation for them. (And I'm mystified that there's another Motörhead album lurking in this collection.) I also don't think I've knowingly heard most of the songs on this album aside from the title track (which I heard way too many times) and maybe a couple of others; I feel badly saying this, but as much of a metalhead as I believed I was at the time, I have a *really* hard time distinguishing between most of their songs. But I *do* appreciate how they were faster and harder-edged than the earlier metal bands of the 70s (almost kind-of-punk sounding), and I laughed when I read that lead man Lemmy insisted that they were just a rock-n-roll band. I also laughed that Lemmy claims he sung their hit single as "the eight of spades" for two years and nobody noticed; I'm sure I wouldn't have.
Decent
It's largely what I'd expect
This album is how I imagine it feels to ride a Harley. Blistering speed and noise. It’s really a shame the lyrics on Jailbait are so bleh because the song otherwise is really great. Favorites were Ace Of Spades, Shoot You In The Back, and The Chase Is Better Than The Catch.
Like the live album more but this was still a good one
Good heavy metal.
Great album when it came out, much better live though. Worth 3 stars now.
Great album that needs to cut Jailbait from it's line up
Solid British metal here. Aces of Spades is one everyone knows, but don't sleep on Shoot You In The Back or Fire, Fire. Album is good, worth a listen before you die. 3/5
This was a collection of high-energy songs about taking chances, winning, being tough, pursuing sexual targets (including the obligatory song about fucking a teenager--skipped it--release the Epstein files!)--basically the whole "live fast" rock and roll manifesto. Easy to listen to. 12 songs in 36 minutes. I just wrote in a different review about a singer whose voice sounded uncomfortably strained, and I guess it makes me a bit inconsistent, but somehow the gruff and ragged vocals here work perfectly with everything else going on.
This seems like a soundtrack for a bar fight somewhere in rural Ireland. Cool riffs, and dirty rough sound. After a while it gets a bit repetitive with his vocals though.
Absolutely iconic cover art but incredibly boring album.
This didn’t really blow me away but it wasn’t terrible
They’re not incredible lyricists, but if you want an album that makes you feel like a badass this will definitely do it. Ace of Spades is the best song, but there aren’t really any clunkers either
There's a level of lazyness that I sense with the lyrics. Smashing instrumentals really carry this album (and group I suppose). A 2/5 but ill raise it to 3/5 cuz it makes me feel like im working hard when I got it playing while doing physical labor
Eh

No one sings like Lemmy (RIP). This is a lot of hard rockin' fun. Ace Of Spades (the song) is legendary. Liked Songs Added: Ace Of Spades
3,5
Enjoyable. 3.5 stars
None of the songs come close to touching the title track, which is one of the best dumb rock songs ever written, but they manage to maintain its relentless energy and play well within the restrictions of Lemmy’s extremely limited range.
I liked pretty much everything except for Lemmy, he sounded terrible. The rest of the band absolutely rocked though so that saved the album. Jailbait though, dunno about that one Lemmy, seems a bit dodgy mate
Not bad
Another case of first track being the best, but I have to give a 3 because they're better than the Pixies, which I gave a 2.
Ace of Spades is an amazing song, unfortunately the rest of the album sounds similar but never manages to match its energy so you end up feeling a bit let down by the rest. Jailbait is a pretty gross song where in not so many words they just can’t wait to fuck a child. I’m glad this type of “rock and roll bad boy” shit is no longer acceptable.
Relentless. Imagine would be awesome live. Bit too intense to work to .... could only manage 1 listen through as energy levels too high.
I don't feel too different about this than I did 'No Sleep Til Hammersmith'. Ace of Spades is a bullet-proof rock classic, and the album is downhill from there. However, I was surprised at the riff-strength on the first half of the album: 'Love Me Like a Reptile'; 'Shoot You in the Back' ("Western movies!", this one being a lesser cousin to Immigrant Song) - but 'Fast and Loose' (like Wolfmother) and '(We Are) The Roadcrew' in particular. After this it really loses any appeal quite quickly with second rate, sausage-machine riffing. The uninspired and one-dimensional lyrics add to the overall malaise by this point, culminating in the woeful and morally questionable 'Jailbait'. Because of that first half, and the title track (which no superlatives can ever do justice to, such is its perfection), it does hold a solid three.
Classic heavy rock, punchy 2-disc album, a nostalgic rock feel to it. 7.4/10.
It’s all the same to me
If you ignore some of the lyrics. This isn’t too bad. Simpsons: Yes
Ace of Spades is a classic the rest are ok.
A little bit headache inducing but I could imagine enjoying this in a live setting. A little bit boring after a while but I appreciate the energy. 3
Fun non stop metal. Lots of air drumming
Would have been 4-stars but need to dock 1-star for pedophilia. I am sure I will have to do this more than once on this list.
When I was headbanging in the kitchen to 'ace of spades' I was properly into it and quite happy to give a 4. This is despite Tim pointing out the lyrics. I mean, if a singer shouts about 'jail bate' in the woods and I don't notice does it really happen? But in the cold light of day, I have a bit of a headache and the songs all did sound a bit samey. Still I enjoyed that first banger.
Decent hard rock, We are the Road Crew and Ace of Spades are legitimately good. 3.5, but not strong enough for 4
You'd look great in a pair of those pants.
kellemes meglepetes, tetszett, bar azert egy vibe kell hozza es eleg repetitivek a dalok
Kedvenc/Favourite: Fast and Loose Tetszett a flow, jó pörgős volt. I liked the flow, it had a nice kick to it. The songs are a bit similar, but not too much, and it probably works in this style. I'll definitely listen to a song or two from this album, but it's not really my thing.
You either like it or don’t, this is not grey-area music. But no matter how you shake it out, they are an entity unto themselves.
It all sounds the same, but it has power and some nice bluesy guitar solos.
Not typically a fan of metal music, but Motörhead has the adrenaline paced energy, hooks, anarchistic attitude and subtle searing proficiency to appeal to punk, rockabilly and blues fans without alienating heavy metal enthusiasts. The title track is probably the most easily identifiable Motörhead song, but the entire album is transcendent and powerful, full of infectious melodies, Lemmy's growl makes the usual lust-filled cliche sound like a call for revolution. "Fire Fire" he sees someone's erotic and destructive potentials and loves the "conflagration." I can't condone the song "Jailbait," especially since Lemmy's sexual exploits are quite well documented.
This record is exhausting. It doesn't really matter what genre you're working in... if you manage to spew out a song like "Ace of Spades" that becomes emblematic of the genre, that becomes an undisputed classic in the field, you've accomplished a rare thing. It doesn't matter if the rest of the record sounds like varying attempts to capture that same lightning in the bottle again ("Fire Fire" comes sorta close). 3 stars exclusively for producing a genre all-time classic song. Hey, prudes: act as uptight as you want about "Jailbait", but the sentiment is nothing new through popular music history. Everything from "I still remember when you used be nine years old" ("Shout!") to "She was just 17 and you know what I mean" (what DO you mean? is she 16?); there's "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" (Sonny Boy Williamson etc), "My Sharona" and so on. Even Bruno Mars ("I'm addicted... you young wild girls I'll always come back to you"). Rock music coexists with the male libido. Oh, and go look up the video of Lemmy backing Kirsty MacColl on this German tv spot she did in the '80s, it's great. So incongruous and wtf. He was a larger-than-life personality in the world of hard rock.
Classic metal. Not a metal fan but I still liked it.
I know this is a beloved album but I just can't get into it, just not my bag. I can respect that it's only 3 guys making that monster noise.
Hard rocker for Christmas Eve.... Wasn't in my head space for today, but maybe a re-listen is in order
I felt like all of the songs sounded the same but Ace of Spades is a banger
Not bad
Lemmy's voice is easily recognizable. Most songs sound the same. They all sound as if they are riding on the back of a trailer driving on a long and open road with the wind blowing in their faces. Fast, Angry, Loud
This is Ace of Spades, and also a bunch of other songs that sound extremely similar to Ace of Spades. (We Are) The Roadcrew in particular sounds like all the parts of Ace of Spades rearranged with new lyrics. I like Ace of Spades and so I found this album alright, just very repetitive.
3.5
I could see how some love it but not really my thing. I didn’t find anything wrong with it though Rating: 3.0
Pretty good.
Good listen.
Rip-roaring fun. The songs all blurred together for me but what a blur! This would be a great workout album. It’s wall-to-wall riffs and wailing. I love the lead singer’s hoarse, shouted vocals.
2.75 rounded up to 3 Okay as a genuine Motörhead enjoyer, there’s no actual reason they need TWO albums on this list, BOTH of which feature “Ace of Spades.”
My expectations were in the gutter but this was actually quite fun. Stand-out: Shoot You in the Back
A heavy rock/metal classic.
Is it just me or did I listen to the same song for 30 mins? Not exactly creative or innovative, but still fun to listen to.
Started off really strong. The first 4 or so songs were awesome! But then it all just blurs into the same thing. Plus that jail bait song was awful YUCK
The title track alone is iconic, a relentless anthem that captures the spirit of the band. But as much as I enjoyed the majority of the album, I can’t ignore the glaring issue that is ‘Jailbait’. The subject matter is disturbing and hasn’t aged well at all. It drags the whole album down for me, especially when I consider how timeless and impactful some of the other songs are.
If Ace of Spades was the entire album I would have been satisfied. Its not that the other songs are bad but that Ace of Spades is soo good it makes the others just sound like lesser versions of it. Since the vocal style and musical themes are so similar throughout it makes this even more apparent. 10/10 Single. 6/10 Album
A reasonable rating for an album that is basically 3 minutes long.
I kinda like Motörhead, although for reasons real fans would probably hate me for. They seem like a caricature of metal bands, like Spinal Tap with only slightly less unserious lyrics.
Rock, Rock, and a bit more rock just for good measure. Good stuff, but nothing outstanding.
Righteous riffs and destroyed vocal cords!
Got off to a flyer with Ace of Spades but got very repetitive the more I got into it. Not bad but thought it would’ve been better.
Rock. No roll. Just rock.
They basically write the same song over and over. Usually that be a deal breaker but it’s very enjoyable. Not something I’d put on all the time but it’s definitely a good time 3/5
Kinda a fun album but it's just not my taste. It reminded me of Van Halen.
Fun album but it's not something I would listen to again. It got very repetitive very fast
Ace of Spades: Oh yeah this song slaps Love me Like a Reptile: Still slaps but okay yeah this is a bit similar Shoot You in the Back: Okay these guys know how to make one song. Honestly this album felt like the equivalent of buying the same dress in five different colours because you like it. I enjoyed it but it also got dull pretty quickly because I couldn't differentiate between the songs (except for Jailbait but only because that song made me go "um what the fuck"). If any of these songs played at a pub or bar whilst I was out I'd probably bop my head along and enjoy it but doubt I'll be listening to this album again anytime soon.
Sure they rock, but to what end?
I mean, they have one song, but it's a bit of fun, 12 songs in a row.
It’s a classic band, a classic song, and the record was better than I expected it to be. I never bothered to dive deep into Motörhead - as the line in the song goes - it’s all the same to me. Three stars - nothing wowed me.
The younger me would enjoy it so much, but today, it's almost background music for busy days when I don't want to spend too much time thinking about what I'm listening to.
Never heard this before. Liked it a lot more than I thought I might. There are some catchy songs here. Not sure why this *and* No Sleep Til Hammersmith are on the list
I love Motorhead but there's one track on here that should have never seen the light of day, and that's the best thing you can say about it. I wish I could go back to not knowing it existed.
Unpretentious, balls to the wall rock. Several demerits for the existence of “Jailbait,” but points for celebrating the road crew.
Pure driven rock, no art to be found here, but every song is the same. It’s an enjoyable listen, though.
I’ve always like some MH mixed in, and I really like about 4 tracks on this including “The Roadcrew” and “Fire Fire”. I like the short track/fast punk feel. All that said, a full album ride of Lemmie’s voice plays a little long for me. I prefer MH in smaller quick doses. 3.5/5
fav song : the chase is better than the crash
The title track is of course an absolute cracker, but outside of that, there's nothing really standing out. "The Chase..." is another great track, but those two can barely lift it to a 3-star rating.
Cool
Way more listenable than I thought it was going to be
My first exposure to Motorhead was the video to "Ace of Spades" when i was ~11. Scary and compelling. Never been a fan of thrash or proto-thrash (is this pre-thrash?) and I don't love their classic live album.... but this is kinda cool. Lemmy cannot sing - obviously - but who cares. It's an energy record, very fast and with a punk edge of heavy metal. I know Lemmy ended up hating "Ace of Spades" because he probably had to play it 12000 times but it does kick ass and is the right album opener. Not for everyone, not necessarily for me all the time but I'd dig this again. 6/10 3 stars
Hectic
This rocks. I'm not much of a metal/hard rock guy, but I might use this to get pumped up some time.
It's like, all the same thing
The thing with this record (and heavy metal in general) is that there's too much shredding and not enough music. I can appreciate the talent that goes into all that guitar playing and screaming, but that's all there is to the album...? It's not bad to have music that you can turn your brain off to, but for that purpose I'll just listen to pop.
Total dad-rock but it was a fun listen. Nothing too outstanding to my ear. 3.25/5
The band that paved the way for thrash, and this album is on the list purely for its influence. The music itself is decent, the lyrics are trash, but there's no denying the attitude.
Punk attitude with a metal edge (or vice-versa, I'm not sure...). They have AC/DC syndrome, though, where it's basically the same song (even though it's pretty good) over and over. Highlights: "Ace of Spades" (opening blast), "Shoot You in the Back" (good groove), "Fast and Loose" (catchy guitar riff) Notable: "Jailbait" (cool groove-based song, but the lyrics are as cringy as you'd expect with that title.)
Pretty fun but just a bit too much of the same for four stars
This album is a lot of fun, and Lemmy's voice really grew on me throughout listening to this one. A lot of this album can feel a bit one-note, but it's a goddamn good note. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the solos, they're tamed back compared to a lot of rock at the time, and they generally don't span many bars, instead resembling more of a bridge from chorus to next verse than anything else. The bass playing was really excellent, I feel it was the most important driver of the energy and just has so much strength to it. HOWEVER, there is a song on here called "Jailbait". Lemmy seems to be okay sleeping with minors. It's gross and wrong. The albums lyrics as a whole are almost entirely about sex and partying, so it's not terribly surprising the words he chooses for this song, but I mean, he openly says he doesn't want to know her age as long as she's down to bone! Gross! For that reason I give this a 3. The song really taints the album for me. At least Lemmy is dead so I can rest knowing my pennies I gave to stream the album aren't funding that kinda shit.
layers of music were rad
I don’t know how Lemmy Kilmister did it. What was his routine for taking care of his vocal cords? Tea with honey? Steam inhalation? Lozenges? I could try to sing like Lemmy for a single song. But a whole album? A whole concert? Could he even talk the next day? And come to think of it, what does his speaking voice sound like? Lemmy has a super distinct guttural growl. It makes “Ace of Spades” a rowdy, raucous treat. But just like too much of that singing must kill his voice, too much listening to it kills my interest. There are no levels - it’s all 100 miles per hour vocals and guitar. And they thrash. It’s great. But in small doses. Good that they started with “Ace of Spades,” because as my interest waned, nothing else came close to that.
Could have been higher, the guitars absolutely shred. But damn the vocals and the lyrics are bad to mediocre. Love me like a reptile is goofy rather than sexy and Jailbait has not aged well...
If the vocals could rip as hard as the guitars, we’d have something special here. Tempting stuff.
My introduction to Motörhead was through WWE lol so it’s interesting to hear a full project of theirs. I’m not mad at the music, it’s not something that I’ll ever go back to but the music is solid. The voice is unique, the instrumentals bang and it’s just an enjoyable listen. 3.5/5!
Heavy and fast, but not as harsh as I expected
