Reviews (page 10 of 12)
I don’t think I liked it as much as the other Stevie Wonder albums. I thought it was a funny coincidence that “They Won’t Go Where I Go” was a cover on yesterday’s George Michael album - I liked the song both times. 3.5?
Very good but not quote the quality of songs from other albums of his golden period
3.5
If I didn't know the artist as well, I'd have rated higher, but it was a bit of a disappointment for me compared to his other music.
Not bad, but mostly faded into the background. I did really like They Won't Go When I Go, but the rest just wasn't that memorable.
Kind of amazing how Stevie was pushing boundaries such a long time ago; he's playing with sounds and sonic ideas that I would not have associated with the early 1970s at all. It's outside my comfort zone but multiple listens have all been really enjoyed although I don't think I can pinpoint a particular track or tracks that have really stood out. Just a lovely load of vibes and a fabulous performer.
Eher ruhig, ggf. Gut für einen entspannten Abend, aber nicht so mein Geschmack
This album sounds like an overpriced candle shop in the Rockies.
I bet if you analyzed this album, it’s flawless, but it’s just not hitting the way other SW albums do. Depending on the day I could get really into this or truly not enjoy it. Glad to have listened to it (several times) but won’t be in the regular rotation…. I don’t think? It’s a 3 or 4 but as I’m writing this is a 3. Feel like I’ll regret this.
Agree with other's takes that, while I also love Stevie, I didn't find much outside of 'Boogie on Reggae Woman' that really landed with me on this album. I listened through a few times even, thinking it might have been user error on my part. But still, no dice. I appreciate the artistry of 'They Won't Go' but don't really like it, for whatever reason. Normally, if an album doesn't connect with me I'd give it a 2, but in this case I'm having trouble finding any good reason for my dislike, so I don't feel as confident in my take. For that reason I'm gonna round up to 3 because Stevie is a legend, but I acknowledge this is more or less an act of cowardice.
I love stevie, but this is one of the lesser entertaining albums. Talking Book from 2 years before was far more interesting to me You Havent Done Nothin was super fun and sounded like the rest of stevies catalogue. They Wont Go When I Go was a great track with a haunting progression and Bach like melody. Please Dont Go felt like a standard tune as well.
Comfortably the least interesting of the 3 Stevie Wonder albums we have done. Suffers from being between two great albums.
I'm somewhat of a Stevie agnostic; I recognize his immense talent and influence, and I do love some of his music, but he'll likely never be an all-time favorite. This record in particular is just a bit too smooth for my tastes. 3/5
Pretty good. Certainly hits more than a few emotional chords.
can never complain about a bit of stevie w
A fine album. 3 stars. Not great. just Wonder doing his thing.
I guess it’s fine for what it is. Doesn’t do much for me.
I think I would have been more appreciative of this back when it came out but it lacks whatever quality that would make me want to seek any of this out today. Still, it was an enjoyable listen and a pretty solid 3.
Achh stevie, S album isch chli a mir verbigange bim lose. Mag mich a nüd erinnere. Heisst aber au es isch nöd nervig gsi. Plus: Cover & album name gfalled mir sehr guet Sorry stevie, album‘s no wonder.
I appreciate the talent, particularly from a legend such as Stevie Wonder, but the album wasn't my particular cup of tea. If it was an album which whet my taste more, it would earn the full five stars. Favorite Song: "Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away"
A forest is of course the most recognisable track, but a good moody second album. Love the story that The Final Sound is so short because the tape ran out.
Good
Enjoyed it
Happy to listen to a Stevie Wonder album of course. I wasn't familiar with this - which is a bonus. But I don't think it is quite as good as Innervisions
I don’t know if I fully “get” Stevie Wonder. There’s certainly individual songs I like. But the two albums this challenge has served me are just ok. Nothing that I’d choose to revisit. 3/5
Exemplariskt producerad.
This album like previous Stevie Wonder albums doesn't produce any emotion in me. Don't hate it just totally inconsequential.
Some good stuff, but the slow soulful songs aren't for me.
Good production but a lot of boring long shit
Some bangers some less than
Pretty good. 3.5?
Reminds me of my mom
Some good songs and some electric organ songs. Mixed bag, more funk please.
This isn’t one of his best from the 70’s. The two hits aren’t up there with others from this era and the rest of the tracks are kinda meandering and bleh. 2.5 rounded up to 3 because even the “not as great as others” hits are pretty good.
Cool sounds
3☆/5 09.20.2024
Can see why this is on the list. Funky soul classic with some stand out tunes
Couple good tracks but kinda boring.
I was a bit disappointed by Fulfillingness' First Finale because you can rightly expect great things from Stevie Wonder and quite a bit of this doesn't deliver, it's solid to good but doesn't really get to the heights he's capable of. The back end of the album is really good though, the last four tracks are so much better than those that preceded it, It Ain't No Use and Please Don't Go are the best of those and get me up to a high 3. I've also mentioned this a few times but the work rate from artists in the 60s and 70s was mad :D this was his 17th album in 12 years.
God, the man can really write some drivel, can't he? Agree with Phil that the second half is better than the first, but he's gone for quantity over quality with 17 albums in 12 years. Think it probably would've been a 2, but for They Won't Go When I Go which is a wonderful ballad. 3/5.
good vibes but a little too samey
Easy listening but not my cup of tea
Love me some Stevie. Hadn’t heard any of these songs before so it’s a nice addition.
Great sounds and singles but overall a step down from the record before it, Innervisions, and to me the songwriting is inconsistent. This was like his 15th or 17th album in less than 10 years as a recording artist, a pace few artists could keep without possibly running low on things to say, and I think he would have benefitted from a little more time off to recharge the batteries before he made this one.
Another Stevie Wonder "classic" in this collection! A great title and album cover, and very mellow hits, all a great combination for Stevie Wonder fans (which I don't really count myself in, although I'll admit I simply haven't listened to him much). "Smile please" is a great start to the album, "Boogie on reggae woman" has a nice mellow funk to it, "You haven't done nothin'" is easily the best song on the album (and strangely relevant to today despite being about Nixon), and I like it that George Michael did a cover of the somber "They won't go when I go" . I'm not sure, though, this is as strong as the other Wonder album I've heard in this collection, "Talking Book", but I did like the occasional combination of country styling and heavy (and early) synth sounds.
I've never gotten into Stevie Wonder--he never hits the right groove for me, though Superstition comes closest. So this album didn't do it either but didn't suck. Sorry Little Stevie Wonder!
Just ok
Well that one just flew right by me. Not bad but so inoffensive it's barely there
It's so inoffensive that if you tell me Stevie Wonder used to beat people up in bars, I wouldn't believe you.
It never really gets going
It's fine. As with the last Stevie Wonder album I got, I enjoyed the funk songs better than the slower ballads. I unexpectedly really enjoyed "They Won't Go When I Go"... The instrumentals in it were lovely!
Yeah, not bad. Inoffensive easy listen, but didn't blow my socks off.
This was really high quality but not my favorite genre. 3.5/5
Seguro tiene mejores. Este se me va a olvidar en una hora.
It's OK... honestly I was expecting more given the name but it was not remarkable
good
Good vibes. Good music. Nothing stood out.
156/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
I think what I've learned by listening to this is that I like Stevie Wonder just fine, but I particularly enjoy his funky stuff. 'You Haven't Done Nothin' gives me a lot of 'Superstition' vibes, the bass line is very similar I feel, and it just grabs me in a different way than the rest Standouts You Haven't Done Nothin' 3/5
I was looking forward to this as I love a bit of Stevie Wonder but I only know the big hits. I didn't recognise any songs on this album and there's probably a reason for that. Most of the songs are fine but unexciting. Boogie on Reggae Woman and Please Don't Go are better than that, and were the only songs I'd like to hear again. You Haven't Done Nothin' would be up there too, but the base line is so similar to Superstition that I can't help thinking I'd rather be listening to that instead.
When Stevie gets the musical energy going, he is unstoppable. Boogie On Reggae Woman and You Haven’t Done Nuthin’ are top notch tunes. For much of the rest of the album, Stevie slows down the pace, softens the mood, and gets intimate. I lose interest during these songs, which is too bad. If his focus were on the energy throughout, this album could have been a home run.
This was a good listen. "Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away" was the standout track for me.
Good album but wildly overshadowed by Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life.
3.5 Some nice tunes. Not my favourite of his so far.
Decent for Stevie
Awesome, not sure if it’s Stevie’s best. But Stevie’s worst is still pretty damn good.
It's Stevie Wonder, so it is as expected. Well written soul/pop/funk. But it is not his best. Allot of songs blend into the background for me but i wouldn't mind re-listening this album.
It’s a decent album. I wish I had a stronger connection to Stevie Wonder’s music because every single album I’ve listened to just feels like the music is simply there. It’s not that it’s bad; I see the talent behind it, but unfortunately for me, there’s a lack of connection.
Previously rated: Innervisions (4/5) Songs in the Key of Life (4/5) ************************************ This one takes a while to get going, starting off kind of flat until Boogie On Reggae Woman which sounds kind of like Superstition from a couple of years earlier. That one and Bird of Beauty were probably the best, but the album as a whole didn't grab me like the other two.
Great album by a great artist. I had never heard this one but I did enjoy it very much
Innervisions was a bit better. Wow, Stevie Wonder was quite the artist - I will never not find his album run impressive. What a silly title though. Can't wait for Songs in the Key of Life. This album largely passed me by - nothing stood out, but it was pretty joyous to listen to. A 'pop it on in the background, enjoy it' kind of album.
God found this a bit much for a dreary Tuesday morning. It's just good solid music isn't it. Wouldn't find myself jumping to listen all the time but I appreciate it
It was good but it was mostly the same stuff throughout. Not bad but nothing extra special for me.
OOhhh.... 70's Stevie Wonder Funnily enough of all of the albums in the amazing stretch from Music of My Mind to Songs in The Key of Life this record is always the one I 'forget' about. and yet... it's still really really good. The man wrote and recorded 5 records (six if you count SITKOL as the double album it is) in 4 years. He wrote and produced every single thing on them. And on top of that the motherfucker played the majority of the instruments on most of the songs too. Nothin better than Stevie. This record was recorded in 1973 as Stevie had already begun writing additional material that would eventually become Songs in The Key of Life. In a way Fulfillingness became an afterthought once his sights were set on Songs. Every time I listen to 70's Stevie Wonder I think of two juxtaposing things: Little Stevie from the 60's; and 80's Stevie from the Cosby Show. How that little boy became the man that wrote and recorded all of this classic material is beyond me. And how he so quickly turned from the African heritage and underground funk and soul right back to "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and "Part Time Lover". Yet this record is exactly that; a recording of a man in his 20's who had grown up in the church, blind, fatherless (his mother had left his Dad when he was 4), married and now divorced who had become an international star in his teens (his first single was released when he was 11 years old). When Stevland Judkins ( 'lil Stevie's birth name) wrote and recorded this album he wasn't even 25 years old. Six of the songs on this album are ALL Stevie, save the backing vocals (mostly him) and the occasional accompaniment instruments. Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away and Boogie On Reggae Woman sound like 20 people, not just one. Even the "throwaway songs" are more than listenable, quite good actually. The man is a virtuoso: the Moog Bass on Boogie, the piano intro on They Won't Go, the syncopated drums on Bird of Beauty. And all of this was AFTER Superstition, Higher Ground, Livin' For The City..... with Sir Duke, Love's In Need of Love Today and the rest of Songs' to come. I remember Stevie once saying in an interview that he doesn't need to see because he feels. When you listen to 70's Stevie you realize he did not mean with his fingertips, he meant with his soul.
pleasant musik
Right before Stevie went on a crazy run and you can hear the gears start turning in that direction on here (3.5/5)
I liked this. I've never heard of this album before, wasn't familiar with most Stevie Wonder except for the hits. But I thought there were some pretty songs.
Perhaps harsh to give this 3* but it isn’t in my pantheon of the (many) great Stevie records. Still a great listen.
Wasn't feeling it at first, but the longer it goes on, the more it hits it out of the park The ballads stop it being special
Good.
not my fav album from Stevie wonder but amazing none the less 7/10
okay mid-70s funky stuff, nothing wild & groovy though
very nice
Some great tunes between a bunch of slow, boring ballads.
Surprised I didn’t like this a lot more!
Love Stevie but this isn't his most memorable
It’s Stevie Wonder so I thought it would be better than this. It was just a bit boring. Sorry Stevie.
Hadn't listened to much Stevie Wonder before this list and though I appreciate his talent, his great voice and enjoyable songs, I can't say I'm a fan. His offerings on this list so far have been classics, but I don't think, Fulfillingness' First Finale, is as strong as, Innervisions or Songs In The Key Of Life. A solid record, but it lost my interest towards the end.
I feel like it's a me issue that I just can't connect to Stevie's albums. This is pleasant. At no point did I want to turn it off but it never really grabbed me. The legend of SW makes me feel like I should be blown away by his music, it just isn't happening.
I was really hoping I'd like this, but I didn't. Great songwriting and musicianship, but I just couldn't get into it. Liked songs added: - Boogie On Reggae Woman
Solid work. I wanted a few more hits but the funky soul is nice to chew on.
This one was just okay for me.
Hard to dislike Stevie. An enjoyable album but he's at his best with more upbeat songs, which this album doesn't have enough of. Boogie On and You Haven't Done Nothin' are great and funky, but everything else is a bit too slow. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)
Certainly a good album, but I am not as overwhelmed by this as some of his other albums. Stand out tracks are no. 4,6 and 9. The other songs are generally too slow for my taste
We liked it. Very smooth and quite cool.
This one was just steady good vibes, I would note not a political as his other albums so far, but I liked it!
It’s the first Stevie Wonder album on here that I’m not gushing over. I barely know any songs on this album. You Haven’t Done Nothin’ is a banger and it’s crazy to think of MJ singing backup to that song. A little too introspective and heartfelt. Give me some funk.
It's a good album that really shows his style. I just have to be in the right mood to listen to it.
Stand out tracks - Enjoyed boogie on woman. Nice piano and harmonica. You aint done nothing and they wont go when i go.
Skemmtileg, góð bakgrunnstónlist
Perfectly pleasant, but nothing more.
A really good album. A few songs were plagued by some preachy bits, and "They Won't Go When I Go" would have been a much stronger close, but generally not bad. 3/5.
Felt a lot mellower then Talking Book. I'd probably put on Talking Book before listening to this again.
Not really for me. Didn't like this as much as Talking Book. Wonder can sing, but I just don't care about it.
It's Stevie Wonder, even if it's not his best record.
Schönes Album, Grundstück seiner späteren Erfolge
Decent album
This is a good album. I like to see wonder a lot but I’m not a huge fan of disco funk. 3.5/5.
I think this album is fine, and it has some very nice-to-listen-to parts, but it didn't really grab me, and I already forget most of it. I think he's made better music that I've connected with more.
This feels like the true stevie wonder deep cuts album. I'm not sure how many of these were radio hits but none tend to appear in the greatest hits comps I've listened to of Stevie's. That being said, it's got that beautiful Jazz, Pop and R&B blend that you'd expect from him. Smile Again and 10 zillion are great. Too shy to say is a great love song. Boogie on a reggae woman is a nice uptempo fusion of reggae and funk. I think it does taper off in the second half once. "You Haven't Done Nothing" is amazing. "Creepin" comes around but enjoy Bird of Beauty and the closer "Please Don't Go."
My first Stevie Wonder album, a good listen for sure. I much prefered the more funk based songs, as opposed to the occasional ballad. Its ALMOST, a four, but I think a 3 is fine for now. Looking forward to more from this lad. Fav songs: - Smile Please - Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away - You Haven't Done Nothin
As with most Stevie albums (in my opinion anyway) - it’s not all killer -but when it goes, it goes hard. ‘You haven’t done nothin’ is my favourite.
3.1/5. listened 2x catchup on 5/14/24. good easy listeneing.
Just quite dull I'm afraid. After being really blown away by Innervisions, this felt like a different artist entirely; it's hard to believe the albums are only a year apart. Still a great voice and I enjoyed Creepin', but not one for me really.
Decent
I think I’ve said this before but Stevie is just a bit too smooth for me that I find him kind of boring. It’s nice but nothing I’m ever in the mood for.
This is fine but outside of "you haven't done nothing" none of these songs really grab me. He definitely has better albums. Interesting to find out that the Jackson 5 did some of the background vocals.
Son 17ème album. Bon, mais vraiment moins hype qu'Innervisions.
Favourite: It Ain’t No Use
Nice tunes but nowhere near his best.
I really like Stevie Wonder. I think this is a very good album. For some reason though, it just didn’t particularly move me today. It probably would have on another day.
This was fun enough, but didn't stand out much. Songs in the Key of Life absolutely blew me away in comparison...
The slow tracks are not my favourites, the funky tracks are!
Solid Stevie album. Not my favorite but good.
Låter väldigt mycket som Stevie Wonder. Lite samma hela skivan. Ingen låt sticker ut direkt. Är det verkligen hans bästa? Pendlar mellan bra eller trist. Kommer jag lyssna igen. Tveksamt.
Can't believe I never listened to this one until now. Already very familiar with Reggae Woman & Haven't Done Nothin and those are arguably still the best songs on the album, but there's good stuff going on throughout.
Fine, but not my jam. 2.5.
Pretty crazy for 1974, but not my fav
far from the best stevie album. lots of sappy songs. still a couple of slaps though, he can't miss.
Not his best collection of songs. Too many slow ones for me but I do like Boogie on Reggae Woman.
Solid album. Standout songs: Heaven is 10 zillion light years away Boogie on reggae woman Birds of Beauty
Beautiful as always when it comes to Stevie. I didn’t realise the song They Won’t Go When I Go was his and it is such a wonderful piece of music
Blind album. I like faster funky Stevie Wonder more. But this album was okay still.
Not his best work, but the highs are still pretty high
Nice and enjoyable album. Nothing in particular stood out for me in either positive or negative way.
Pretty fine
5.5/10
Doesn't feel as vital as other Stevie albums
More laid back tempos and prayerful. Beautiful Stevie sounds and words.
Best lekker
Schöner Soul.
Solid album, just what I'd expect from motown
Excited to see it pop up, but ultimately disappointing. Decent, not great.
Me encanta Stevie Wonder, pero este álbum es de lo más flojito que tiene!
Have I heard this album before? Yes Highlights: Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, You Haven’t Done Nothing, Please Don’t Go Rating: 6.7/10 Been a while since I’ve heard this one. Remember a couple of the funkier tracks that I definitely enjoyed more. Unfortunately while a decent album, this one is just a bit forgettable compared to some of Stevie’s other releases.
A very groovy album. When Stevie gets funky, he's at his best. He has such dynamic range that when he leans into the ballads, I don't think they serve him as well. About 50% of this album is marvelous and the other half feels underwhelming. Stevie has a voice like no other and that makes anything he creates worth a listen.
2 great songs. Others pleasant.
I didn't like this one as much as the other Stevie Wonder albums on here.
Liked the energetic songs, bit bored on slower ones. No big surprises aside from some fun instruments.
Undeniably good but NOT AT ALL my vibe at the moment
Fun, funky but definitely different than I expected from Stevie Wonder. Enjoyable but not my favorite of his stuff.
Hit or miss. 3
nett, und man hört auch schon funkige elemente von später.
- A more sombre Wonder than I’m used to. - A few very good tracks.
2,5
I mean it's Stevie Wonder. It's not gonna be bad. Probably not Stevie's best but even at that it's pretty solid.
High expectations for a Stevie album! I love some of his tracks that I know. Oh boy this one started off pretty rough for me with the first 3 songs. Luckily it really picked it up with the 4th and the second half of the album. Track reactions: 1 - There's something going on with the tones that don't work for me. Hard to put my finger on. Not a fan. 2 - Better track but still not really catchy. 3 - A sweet song but not really moving me. 4 - This one certainly has a groove! 5 - Not great for me. 6 - OK... the funky beat is back. I can dig it. 7 - Another fine ballad. 8 - Quite enjoyed my first listen of this song. I'm not sure it is one I would repeat a lot but it gained my respect as a song. 9 - Pretty good track 10 - This is another pretty good groove with some gospel feel.
Stevie Wonder's "Fulfillingness' First Finale" showcases his incredible ability to make yet another album. I haven't found much new to add aside from what was said in my ratings for his previous two albums. This one still keeps the music fresh by constantly switching up the mood, but I still don't remember any of the songs once I am done listening. That is, I continue to appreciate Stevie a bit more with each listen to new music from him while not necessarily appreciating individual songs any more or less. Two notes: The harmonica always kills. "You Haven't Done Nothin'" stood out with its familiar chord progression, slappy bass, and catchy trumpet lick, almost as if an AI tried to recreate "Superstition" from two years earlier.
Some of the songs were good and groovy, some were meh. Average overall.
Every song is decent, but nothing is memorable. I'm sure the composition is genius in some technical ways that I don't understand, but Stevie just wasn't doing it for me this time.
nice vibe. really melodic
Love ateviea voice and style. Didn't have as good songs as the other Stevie album I've had, Innervisions, but some pretty solid tracks here regardless.
Disappointing, but only because 2 of his other albums were absolutely amazing and perfect. And this is still a 3.
Well produced but sort of a boring listen
Compact album with solid Stevie Wonder touches (like harmonica). A couple of stand-out tracks
Solid
Nice music.
Decent
Not his best
The catalyst for the explosive breakup of the Bill Guidara Quartet, and subsequent founding of the cult supergroup spin-out Maddog Trio. Eventually, the BGQ did reunite after 48 hours when the remaining members finally agreed to cover Boogie On Reggae Woman. The band did not need to consider covering any of the other songs on this album.
Not offensive. Stevie is a talented dude but I don’t ever think I would just put this on and be excited about all the songs. Literally nothing got stuck in my head or make me want to come back for a second helping. That said last song was the best. Very strong.
I love Stevie. Probably one of the best song writers ever. This album for me like others of his, is really slow when it’s slow. Just not my style and a little too gospelly it felt. I wanted give four but it seems more like a three now.
Not as good as the previous album we listened to
Ja, lekker. Op de achtergrond. vooral die eerste paar nummers..... en de laatste paar. Ik kon er daadwerkelijk wel een beetje op swingen, alleen kende ik niks. Niks.....echt niks
Interessant, eher ruhig. Ausgeprägte Einzelinstrumente im Gesamtlänge.
Listened Before? N Stevie is a classic. That was a great solid album from beginning to end. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: You Haven't Done Nothin'
Third Stevie Wonder album on this list now I think. It's probably the weakest of the three, and I feel that I am getting quite tired of Stevie Wonder at this point. I think it's the religion preaching parts that are wearing me down, and a bit too much hallelujah. It's hard to find a single best song on this album, nothing really stands out. But nothing really is bad either (except what I wrote above); they are still quite groovy and well made. I think it's going to have to be a weak 3, and the reason it isn't higher is because I'm tired of Stevie Wonder right now.
I've come to the realisation that I'm not a great fan of Stevie Wonder's albums. They are ok and he has some great hits but when listening to the whole album I feel they become a bit samey. Still a decent album to put on in the background but it lacked his catchier hits. A weak 3 from me.
Saai, en vrij eentonig. Wel goed muzikaal
Stevie Wonder had a monumental run in the 70s between Music of My Mind (1972) and Hotter Than July (1980). Fulfillingness is probably my least favorite of the bunch (although I haven’t heard The Secret Life of Plants). It’s still a great album, but it doesn’t have the awesome hits that Talking Book or Songs in the Key of Life had, or the cohesiveness of Innervisions. It’s also not as consistent as Music of My Mind or Hotter Than July, but I think those are more even and the highs are higher on Fulfillingness, which makes them all about even for me. The good thing is that this album is among Wonder’s funkiest.
I think I enjoyed it? I remember I listened to it twice by accident because I didn't realise it had ended, but nothing that special
Meh. At first I was like okay maybe this could be interesting and then I was like okay well it's just this. I completely understand why it's on this list it's just not my thing.
3.5
Blast from the past Very Mellow
Great album
groovy af or very emotional, no in-between. amazing voice ! quite tiring actually. i feel drained. but great layering of instruments.
Solid album for the time. Talented artist
I listened to this three times, trying to get a feel for what people like about it, but I just don't find it stirs a lot of emotion in me. I don't dislike R&B or Soul but they're not my favorite genres either.
Uplifting and happy sounding.
I like Stevie Wonder but this album wasn't my fave. Kinda had a repetitive sound...
It’s amazing how well he speaks for a blind man Pretty good got a jazzy vibe to it 3.8/5
Good, but not for me.
'heaven is 10 zillion light years away' is so good !!! 'you haven't done nothing' sounds just like 'superstitious'
Pretty cool album. Some fun songs. Great when high
Felt a bit slower overall. Not as easy to sit through.
This is a chill record that I could see my parents listening too while hanging out around the house doing normal every day things. Maybe as background music at a Christmas party. You can feel the shag carpet between your toes and all the appliances are avocado green.
I liked the fast paced tracks more than the slow ones. Added one song to my favorites list.
Couple of great tracks, but the rest left me cold
I like a few Stevie Wonder songs but I never listened to a full album. This is apparently from the end of his "classical period" but it was kind of boring. His voice is great, it had some really nice melodies and a few times I almost enjoyed myself but I never quite got there.
Besser als gedacht.
Boogie on… is one of the best songs of all time! 3/5
I think it's aight. Good stuff although not my tempo. Will I listen to again: 20%
stevie is very enjoyable but could i write poetry to this? n
I don't think there's a bad song on the album, but not as many bangers as there on Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life.
3+
I know I should love this album, but I just don't.
id be comfortable saying this was my favorite Stevie Wonder album so far. a couple good songs and only a couple not great ones. super high 3
War ich nicht in der Stimmung für
"You Haven't Done Nothin'" is a classic Stevie track, and by far the best one on this album.
HeeHoo. Blind man👩🦯:).
Alma vibes. Stevie Wonder har bättre.
This album was alright. Not my favorite from Stevie Wonder, but there were some bangers! Not much of a fan of the beginning half of this album, but the later half gets much better. Favorite Song(s): "You Haven't Done Nothin'", "They Won't Go When I Go", "Please Don't Go"
אני יכול לראות את מי שאוהב את הז'אנר נהנה מהאלבום, אבל הוא פחות בשבילי
Bird of beauty was my fave, the whole album sounds just like other stevie albums
Not my favourite Stevie, but very likeable.
Fairly minor album compared to Innerversions and Songs in the Key of Life. Second half felt stronger. 3.5*
Just not my thing....but funky
It was nice, but I need to sit down and listen with a little more attention soon
It was Thanksgiving so I'm sure this deserved more attention than I gave it
3/5 Decent album but only a couple tracks ("Creepin'" and "Please Don't Go") stand out to me.
It has it's flaws but something about this album makes me not want to bitch about them. Chill grooves, something to relax to
its a 3 but let it be known this was the most joyful 3 ive listened to so far I think didnt like it that much but I was nodding along the entire way
It's interesting how Mr. Wonder can get such full-sounding arrangements without them becoming distractingly "busy". Everything on the album is performed well, but it's not my taste.
I had not heard a single song on this album before today and while I liked most of the songs I would say this is definitely not Stevie Wonders best work. Boogie On Reggae Woman is pretty damn good though. Everything else sort of blended together.
Didn’t make much impact on me.
Super easy listening. I liked it but wasn't very exciting
I have a Stevie Wonder greatest hits CD, but I've never listened to one of his complete albums before. This album didn't have any songs that I recognized, so I wasn't really sure what I was in for. Musically, I was really underwhelmed by the first three tracks. I enjoyed the lyrics, but the overall sound of the songs wasn't really to my liking. But as soon as "Boogie On Reggae Woman" kicked in, the album had my full attention, when the sound shifted more towards funk. From that point on, I enjoyed the album a lot more. I feel like Stevie sang in a much lower register on the first three tracks too, but I like his singing better when it's in a higher register, which he did more on the second half of the album. I think Stevie Wonder is a fantastic song writer, and he puts together beautiful musical arrangements too. His singing is great, and so is his playing of the Fender Rhodes. I just wish this album featured more of the things that I love about his music.
It's a Stevie Wonder album. From the Seventies. So of course this is good. But I have to say nothing really stood out here, in terms of the songs themselves. Certainly not in the way of a Superstition or a Pastime Paradise. Although Bird OF Beauty was a pleasant surprise. Very good, but maybe not his greatest.
Always fun and full of feeling.
Smooth songs.
Feeling fairly fulfilled.
You joyous highs. The woeful lows.
fairly forgettable
Two of his best tracks of all time on this release. A little mellow for me but the album certainly highlights his versatility as a songwriter and as an extraordinary keyboard player.
Probably my 3rd Favorite Stevie Wonder LP. Not Quite as Good as Innervisions , But Boogie On Reggae Woman is still a killer cut
It's a mellower version of Stevie, I feel. I'm not sure that it adds much to his legacy or to the "quality" of this list of albums.
B Smile Please 3 Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away 4 Too Shy to Say 4 Boogie On Reggae Woman 3 Creepin' 3 You Haven't Done Nothin' 3 It Ain't No Use 3 They Won't Go When I Go 4 Bird of Beauty 3 Please Don't Go 5 Whenever I think of Stevie Wonder, I think of the impression of him by Robin Williams. Whenever I think of Robin Williams, I think of the joke stealing accusations against him that are so under the radar. Now I'm wondering, was the Stevie Wonder bit stolen too? Robin, it's your fault, it's your fault, it's your fault...
nice voice, quite soft, bit gospel-y though, overall nice
3/5
Honestly, I'll give this one a 7.5/10! It gives very cozy indie/jazz vibes and I thoroughly enjoy it! I would give it a higher rating, but I want to give it a fair chance when I listen to more genres of music like this.
Nice work, easy to listen to, but it didn't blow me away.
enjoyable listen. his voice is not as raspy or baritone as i thought it was supposed to be. more of an ensemble than just the piano i expected as well. not anything in here that truly captured me but was nice background music as i worked.
Another funky Stevie joint. Good for general relaxing.
Good but a lil slow and sad for my taste
I’ve never listened to Stevie Wonder before really so didn’t know what to expect going into this. I really enjoyed it though, funky album, some really good songs on it, very feel good and his voice is so smooth and buttery. My favourite track was Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away. Some songs had me rocking and bopping in my seat - some had me listening intently to the emotion. Thoroughly enjoyable listen.
Definitely good but not really that into it
- Smile Please: Was nice! - Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away: I really like the vibes. - Too Shy Say: Very mellow, but I like it - Boogie On Reggae Woman: Very boogie-like, a bit much for me. - Creepin': Mid - You Haven't Done Nothin': I immediately recognized this song. No wonder it's a hit! - It Ain't No Use: Was good! - They Won't Go When I Go: Beautiful Piano Solo at beginning. - Bird of Beauty: Good vibes. - Please Don't Go: Good last song! Overall: I can see why this won so many awards back then. Classic!
Some catchy tunes
Hardly a classic Stevie album… it didn’t have the magic of his other stuff. This shouldn’t be on the list
Not what I expected but quite enjoyable. A voice that leaves an impression
I mean its Stevie so its good. But I definitely think there are better Stevie albums. Boogie on Reggae Woman and You havent done nothin go fucking hard though
Relentlessly happy
Some very cool stuff, took a while to get going though
not as catching as other stevie wonder albums ive listened to
Okay, but ultimately a bit dull. Not a huge fan of this sort of 70s soul/ funk. This was pleasant enough, but not inspiring.
I mean it's fine, not bad, but a lot sounds the same. Maybe better appreciated with more listens, but not something that excites me to listen to more.
One listen is enough
I do like his hits. But they aren't here. This is still alright. A little too disco at times. I do wish some hits were on here...
Not my favourite Stevie Wonder but not bad
Nice sound for a relaxing day at home.
The 70s vibes were good, but it was a little too mellow for my typical tastes. The last few songs were really good, though.
Fun, a little preachy but good music. Kinda jazzy, you can see the evolution of music here which is cool
I like Stevie Wonder but all his albums feel so hit and miss, with a lot of filler between some amazing songs, I don't think I have heard an album which is good from start to finish.
Stevie Wonder has the voice of an angel and this album is groovy but nothing really jumped out at me unfortunately
# 70 : Musically and the production is good, a couple of good songs on here. Probably the weakest album of his from this period. You Haven't Done Nothin'
Brani Preferiti: - "Please Don't Go" - "Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away" - "They Won't Go When I Go" Note: Per quanto possa essere un album apprezzato dal pubblico è lontano dal genere che ascolto solitamente, ciononostante le canzoni di questo album hanno quel senso nostalgico riconducendo a quel genere chiamato smooth soul. Di Stevie conoscevo solo quelle canzoni mainstream ("Isn't She Lovely", "I just called to say i love you"...) quindi cimentarmi con più dettaglio nella sua discografia meno conosciuta 3 stato interessante, sarà per i miei gusti tendenti ad altro... ma non vedo niente di iconico in questo album.
The middle album of his run from talking book to songs in the key of life. Too many SW songs that are slow tempo and drag on for two minutes too long. The highlights are very high. They won't go is a great song
1st track: Wish it was a bit more sparse. Needs room to breathe Fun piano parts Bit of slide guitar The song about love fading is very sad :'(
Not as good as others of Stevie
More varied than I expected but still not my thing. Slow start too
Fav: They Won't Go When I Go
Sommige nummers vond ik wat te traag en te saai. Anderen waren een stuk leuker
I'm a Stevie Wonder fan but off the top of my head I reckon Innervisions and Talking Book (both immediately before this) and Songs in the Key of Life (immediately after) are much better. I thought it was a bit plodding other than Boogie On Reggae Woman. Not bad but a strange choice for the list
Nice drums
So there seems to be a fair amount of Stevie albums that are considered essential listens. I say this every time, but Sir Duke is by far my favourite track of his, and I’m still yet to be generated the album containing this! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: You Haven’t Done Nothin’, They Won’t Go When I Go I’d say that overall, this has been my least favourite Stevie album so far, but that’s not to say that it’s bad. I wasn’t much a fan of Heaven Is Ten Zillion Light Years Away - it was a bit too goddy for me to be honest. Otherwise, there was plenty of funk that we’d come to expect, but a definite highlight was They Won’t Go When I Go which really showcases the softer side of his piano skills.
Some bops
Klassiskt stevie Wonder album, massa bra låtar men typ inget speciellt Bästa låt: They wont go when I go
I enjoyed the listen. I hadn’t heard any of these tracks before, despite being pretty familiar with Wonder’s other classic period albums. However, I don’t see myself revisiting the album as a whole outside of the standouts. Mr. Wonder’s voice is gorgeous as always - amazing warmth, clarity and ease in his delivery. Highlights: Please Don’t Go Heaven Is 10 Zillion Lightyears Away You Haven’t Done Nothin’
It was OK. Can't see myself listening again
Not my favorite Stevie Wonder album. It's fine, but nothing really stands out. It's Stevie Wonder, so it's obviously not terrible, but I don't think I'll be listening to this very often.
It was okay
Pretty fun, very funk and gospel. Definitely a talented singer, just not my cup of tea. 3/5
Not his worst, but not his best. The thought of stevie wonder creeping into my dreams is kinda scary too. But he's got soul and talent that glides over nearly every song. Just wish the mix was a little better. Could definitely use a remix.
3.5
This album has more laid back, mellow songs than other Stevie Wonder albums that I've had on the 1001 challenge before. I preferred his more funkier songs and there weren't that many of them on this album. Overall good but it's not my favourite album by him.
Apparently this is considered classic Stevie and I agree. A cruisy comfortable listen. Fave tracks: Smile Please, They Won't Go When I Go, and Bird Of Beauty
- Only ever listened to SITKOL in full before - Stevie Wonder's music has never really clicked for me before for some reason - Thought it was decent, some tracks a lot better than others - Fav songs: Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Please Don't Go
Not my favorite Stevie Wonder album.
Sleepy album for the most part, but good songs are: Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothing (pointing accusations at President Nixon), and They Won't Go When I Go (sad gospel feel).
Cat: Stevie is amazing. His music is always so soulful and joyful! And funnnnky. You Haven’t Done Nothin’ is an all time banger.
Too slow for me but got going later in the album!
Gotta say maybe I’m not in the head space for it today, and while the music all sounds interesting. This just isn’t my cup o’tea. First two tracks did nothing for me. Almost stopped listening. 3. Too Shy to Say is wonderful. 4. Boogie on Reggae Woman is funky as funk, and I love me some Harmonica. 5. Creepin’ has a straight up creepy intro sound like an 80’s video game horror level. The back up singer at the end threw me off. But the whole song has the feel of repeating a side scrolling level in a 8-bit video game set in Egypt or a graveyard. 6.. You haven’t Done Nothing’- Second helping of serious funk, really like the vocals, and being a big Chicago fan means horns are always welcomed. 7. It Ain’t No Use - takes the foot of the pedal, stops traffic, not in a good way. The back up singers are working miracles here, only redeeming part of the track for me. 8- They Won’t Go When I Go - serious Beethoven vibes at the beginning, then a little Mozart - ballads are great but this just feels like a drag, which I’m sure is the intension but I need more funk. 9. Bird of Beauty - and the Funk is back, got like a Brazilian samba vibe, lots going on from the mid point of the track on, it’s kinda much. 10.. Please Don’t Go - Maybe top three tracks for me on the album, it’s just got great energy and feels fun. Harmonica again throughout love it. He’s a wonderful singer, and song arrangements are interesting, definitely not run of the mill R&B, it just isn’t landing with me. It’s like Mangos… exotic, sweet, good for the soul… I just fucking hate the way mangos taste. Which is sad because I want to enjoy mangos just like everyone else… they just do go down the same for me as everyone else. Respect the talent, respect the man, just doesn’t hit.
Stevie's most OK album. It's still good of course, but it's not Innervisions or Songs in the Key of Life. I like the funkier side of his music more than this soft one, and this one just has too many softies on it. Sorry for being a heathen.
Groovy but I wouldnt go out of my way to listen to it 3.5/5
