this is more a case of this not exactly being my type of music rather than there being anything wrong with the music itself. it'd probably be a 3-star if i was into this and/or understood the lyrics
Pleasant Album. Understated global hobo sound. Reminds me of Joe Strummer’s last albums, but more professional
Great Spanish lesson.
The story behind the album is really cool, but listening to it didn't really do much for me. I don't speak Spanish so I'm sure I'm missing a lot of good lyrical content.
Some groovy beats. Language barrier was significant
Pop with some folk thrown in. Manu Chao is all lyrics and stories for spanish speakers, which I am not. The music is kinda boring, mandolins and acoustic guitars with a bit of percussion. This album is at least 60% lyrics of which I can understand very little of and care to even less.
6/10 Highlights Clandestino Bongo Song
This is #day479 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... one star goes for "Bongo Bong," a song from my childhood. That same soundbite, used throughout the whole record, also rings a bell, like the low-battery whine of an old toy or gadget, if you know what I mean. It was fun to learn about the album's recording process and that "the songs that resonated most with the children were the ones that ultimately made the cut." Otherwise, this is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day480.
Enjoyable. Appreciate the artist. But not my go to genre.
Not my style of music
2/5 for me
not for me. not an enjoyable listen but it's not the worst thing ive ever heard
not for me
Not sure what was going on here.
Largely all blended together for me. Not my jam.
This album was a whole lot of nothing. I wish I liked it more than I did, but it just bored me.
Another album where it’s not my style of music but I like the singer’s voice. I’m not big on music where I can’t understand the lyrics. Standout Songs: Je ne t'aime plus Welcome to Tijuana
Didn’t click with me.
Most of the album is in French or Spanish, which just leaves me cold because of the lanuage barrier The song King of Bongo Bong is a funny little earworm, but not enough to win me over to this artist
Not for me. Not terrible though
2.0 RYM
In a nutshell: viva la resistance. Lyrically, interesting and compelling. Not keen on some of the recycled sound bites throughout the album (specifically the one that reminds me of a video game character falling to their death). Overall: 4/10
A bit shite innit
Rating: 2.4 Look man nothing against this guy, doesn’t appeal to my sensibilities though and I just sat there looking like I wanted to punch a hole in drywall the whole time I was listening to this record.
2.4 1x
Not my thing
Ärsyttävää.
Really not a genre I vibe with - finding it difficult to listen to a lot of it. Some of it bangs though. The mix of languages is neat, I guess. The sampling is quite cool. Unfortunately, the fact remains that I just don't like this sound. It's only when it strays away from Latin somewhat that I start to enjoy it. Did sometimes find myself wiggling my hips subconsciously. It got rhythm for sure. Fav tracks (or rather, tracks I actually enjoyed somewhat) - Bongo Bong, Mama Call
Soundtrack for a Mexican restaurant 👎
It was cool but I wish the vocal were stronger
It wasnt terrible but i just did not vibe with it at all
I got pretty tired of this.
It was probably not too bad, but it's not my thing at all.
It was entertaining.
At the point of writing this 1st section I’m just so impressed with the amount of languages this fella knows. Would be good if I knew a western artist that did that but no That gave it a 3 minimum but genuinely I didn’t find it an interesting listen so 3/5
It has its moments but just became flat and boring by the end.
I mean fair play for making a multi-lingual album, but really not quite for me, some of the songs were a bit odd and others were downright weird. Nothing terrible to listen to though but not in any hurry to go back and listen to any of them again.
Spaans gebrabbel
Coffee shop music I suppose. It was inoffensive, but I just wasn't in the mood for this today.
Nice album
As a whole it wasn't for me, but it did have some pretty cool moments scattered in.
I don’t enjoy his voice.
multilanguage reggae bongo bong
....nah...
Just not my thing. Background music
Never heard of this guy before, kinda like a reggae / Latin fusion. Was okay as background music, if you were on a beach with a cold one and some palm trees, would have been a nice vibe.
A hotch pot of styles, and too many songs, that didn't hold my interest. Two stars. Would I listen to this album again? No. Would I buy this album? No. 1 "Clandestino" - 2 Stars 2 "Desaparecido" - 2 Stars 3 "Bongo Bong" - 2 Stars 4 "Je ne t'aime plus" - 1 Stars 5 "Mentira..." - Nice riff. - 3 Stars 6 "Lágrimas de Oro" - 2 Stars 7 "Mama Call" - Catchy. - 3 Stars 8 "Luna y Sol" - Up tempo. Nice horns. - 3 Stars 9 "Por el Suelo" - 2 Stars 10 "Welcome to Tijuana" - 2 Stars 11 "Día Luna... Día Pena" - 2 Stars 12 "Malegría" - 2 Stars 13 "La vie à 2" - 2 Stars 14 "Minha Galera" - 3 Stars 15 "La Despedida" - 3 Stars 16 "El Viento" - 3 Stars Total - 37 Average - 2.31
Started OK but by the end it was a 2
i wish i liked this one more. i think it's an interesting concept. a fusion of many different musics from all around the world, in a handful of different languages. unfortunately for me, most of the songs were kind of boring at best, and annoying to me at worst. manu chao's voice is a bit nasally and starts to be grating sometimes for me. also some of these sounds sound like weird carnival music, at times, which is not my vibe! i really do wish i liked this one better, as i think the concept is cool. but unfortunately, not my thing.
Not bad, it was a nice mix up from what I typically listen to.
It’s ok but I wouldn’t visit it again. Not music I like to listen to.
yeah idk at the beginning it was nice but then the songs started to get more and more annoying
This wasn't my thing and nothing here was good enough to make me want to listen to a whole song. Pass.
Interesting but not something I would listen to by choice
That was a really long 40 minutes.
6/6/25. Interesting album, a sound and genre I'm admittedly not familiar with. Was cool that there were songs in different languages, just thought the feel throughout was too similar. Just okay to my ear, perhaps will need a few listens.
Fine for what it is, just not my thing. Some of the elements are definitely not for me.
Negative
This sounded nice enough but since it was mostly in Spanish I didn't get much out of it.
2 out of 5. I respect this effort, just ain't for me.
Not really sure what it is I’m listening to? Some sort of French Hip-Hop, cuban, acid-reggae mash-up. If you’re into that then fair enough. I don’t think I need to hear it again. 2 stars for creativity. 2/5
pristojno, al postane zamorno jbg
I was expecting a Ricky Martin-style Latin pop party, but Clandestino had other plans. It is lo-fi, synth heavy, and under-produced. And then it gets weird... feeling at times like a kazoo solo at a funeral. Manu Chao is definitely doing his own thing here. I did like some tracks—“Luna y Sol,” “Día Luna, Día Pena,” and “Lágrimas de Oro” which all have a folky quality that reminded me of bossa nova and bolero. But then its like a manic street jester shows up with “Bongo Bong,” (that ironically has no bongos) “Mama Call,” and “La Despedida”—which I can absolutely live without.
This album has very good vibes. An above average non-English album for me. Almost got to 3 stars, but it feels very same-y as it goes on. Not a ton of range.
A few really fun songs (Bongo Bong and Mentira) but didn't click with me as an album
Not for me, it was fine but I don't think I'd choose to listen to it again
Very international vibe with Spanish, French and English. Some of it felt Caribbean, some like Enrique Iglesias, though that might have been the Spanish.
Never heard of this artist, then again I never went to Padre Island for spring break.
very chilled out south american spanish vibes
It’s ok I guess
I think the lyrics are probably the most interesting part of this album and I can’t understand any of them so a tough one to rate
When I first saw this album, I expected to hate it — but I didn’t. Clandestino is energetic and fun, with some great guitar moments and a handful of standout tracks like "Bongo Bong." I especially loved how "Bongo Bong" flowed into "Je Ne T'aime Plus" — fantastic! I struggle with lyrics in another language since I love hearing the story behind a song and following where it takes me. Because of that, I’d rate the album 2/5 — but I can definitely see why people like it. Favourite song: Bongo Bong Least favourite: There were a lot of songs I just didn’t connect with. Album artwork: Cool cover.
One or two clever ideas stretched too thin.
low-mid
There’s no soul to this. It’s a shell of what Latin music should be. I can see a Spanish high school class using this to translate or recite. It’s music to ignore while you stuff your face with chips at a Mexican restaurant.
I was gonna chalk this up to another case of the non-english entries being randomly generated, but apparently people actually listen to this guy
Quite like the Latino sound. Not something I would listen to much.
Bongo Bong was the only saving grace
Not really my tastev
Not my thing
Holy shit this is the “King Of The Bongo” guy?! That’s crazy. I have no idea why I know this song, but memories of it were buried deep in my subconscious. As far as the rest of this album goes, it’s definitely Latin flavoured, but aside from that it feels fairly generic. There’s a real lack of passion in his voice, which I feel doesn’t jive at all with this style. There’s voice used throughout that feel super out of place and clunky. This feels like the soundtrack that a taco restaurant owned by white guys would play to try to sound authentic. It misses the mark for me. 2*
i really wanted to like this more
I liked this a bit at the beginning but it got tiresome as it wore on. Not for me.
I'm surprised to see anything in Spanish in this list, but that said I'm not surprised that it's Manu Chao. I've never been a big fun, mainly because although it seems to represent an ideology of freedom fighters and seems to have some important substance behind, it's actually doing this fight more harm than good. This kind of attitude is the reason Spanish left-winged parties aren't taking seriously, the culture of the weed-smoking, hippie-ish and artsy that gets completely lost in the arts themselves rather than doing anything. This is what they did to punk in Spain, and it feels like it was purposefully orchestrated to make the remainder of strong-left representatives an absolute joke. Rant over, this isn't bad - it's catchy and fun, I just wish I could see it as just that.
# Album Name: Clandestino # Artist: Manu Chao # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: I was wondering to myself - i know this guy. Where have i heard him before. Then i realised it was in most of the backpackers in SA i stayed in. Good times. Sadly, this album was not as good as that. Couple of good tracks like Desperacido and bongo but thats about it. # Top Tunes: Desperacido / bongo # Would I listen to it again? Nahhhhhh
Nothing is objectively bad here, it just didn’t hold my interest.
not a big reggae guy, this is pretty ok. just really didn't grab my interest at all
Not for me. 2.5 stars.
Didn't really care for this one.
Overall it didn't capture my attention as I hoped. Typically I am drawn to the music but I think an understanding of the lyrics may have helped here. Maybe one to revisit but for now, struggling to rate it any higher.
pleasant enough, not gripping, Spanish/French grooves
bad
Not really my bag Latin music but you can tell this album was made with a lot of joy.
A good listen, but got strange at times
Very boring but has good politics so there's that? Idk I don't care about this but maybe if I was European and an annoying lefty weed person in 2002 this would be my vibe
Energetic and fun but don't see myself coming back to listen, cool that he's got that tik Tok song doe!
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Desaparecido, Je ne t'aime plus, Mama Call, Luna y sol Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: I'm happy for him because he seems to be happy. I'll take my couple of saved songs and we can go smiling our separate ways. 2.5 rounded down.
I don’t really have the context to appreciate this as much as I should. Why do I know this name though?
Another one of those albums that makes me wonder, who on earth is listening to this? Just a bunch of drum machines.
There were a couple of moments on this that I really enjoyed, but it's definitely not my thing.
Seems fun enough, does not hit with me though. Will I listen to again: 1%
I can't really find anything special about this album. Not for me.
I won't say it was terrible, but i'm quite glad it's over, I got very little out of that experience. Don't like the guy's voice at all, none of the songs really stand out, it all blends together. Especially at the end, tracks 10-16 i didn't even realise had happened.
One long slightly annoying song.
3rd track started to irritate, 4th continued to do so. Never really recovered after that for me.
Aunque tuve que escucharlo, no voy a ponerle el 1. Le pondré un 2. Las canciones más insoportables son las que yo recordaba del disco. Pesao.
I dont really like it
This guy seems cool. World music sure has a sound.
da kommen Erinnerungen hoch, aber außer Bongo Bongo ...
Depending on one's state-of-mind while listening to this album, one might wish to light up a joint, nurse the hangover, or bang year head against a wall till you stop hearing anything but your heart-thumping in your ear. Somewhere, they will use this album as torture techniques to get the hardest bastards to start talking. And in any hostal, or backpacker inn, all across the world, this album is staple of the daily playlist... 2 ** because I will respect the effort... but Jezus H Christ, this gets old fast.
He does what he does but it’s not quite my thing.
Not awful, just not my style.
⭐⭐/5
Mexican based music. OK but wouldn't listen again
Not bad, but not really my kind of thing. I'm not sorry that I listened to it but don't think that I would need to listen to it again. Some of the songs were not bad though.
This was quite varied for something that sounded so overtly Latin. Really not my kind of thing but was bright and colourful. Also 'Bongo Bong' seem to be the song Gorillaz based a fair bit of their career on.
Pretty dull, not going to lie. Often can't get on with non-english vocals as there's nothing to relate to / agree with etc. there are a few exceptions but this definitely isn't on them. Music itself left me a bit bored.
Bongo Bong ist bekannt. Alles andere reißt mich nicht vom Hocker
I'm not sure why this is in here - it sounds like the music you hear in Spanish restaurants on holiday.
Clandestino I feel like I’ve been trapped on a canal boat with an 55 year old weirdo who hasn’t finished doing it up or hasn’t cleaned it in ages. It smells of BO and stale weed. All the cups and mugs are really tea stained. There is a bed but there are no sheets on it. However there is a duvet cover on the very thin duvet and a pillow case on the single pillow. The furniture is made from bits of fucked wood. I want to leave but he’s trapped me an intense conversation about being a common law freeman. ⭐️⭐️
A cool enough one to hear, but nothing in there to make me want to go back to it
Monipuolinen kielivalikoima ja periaatteessa ihan kivaa musaa. Valitettavasti tää on mulle vähän liian sellasta nuotiomusaa joka ei oikeen tartu. Varmaan tällä on paikkansa tällä listalla, muttei välttämättä mun levyhyllyssä. 2/5
Muutama oikein kiva biisi, muttei tää kokonaisuus kyllä omaan makuun kanna loppuun saakka.
Ok
Doing both too much and not enough simultaneously.
Mediocre and indistinguishable from most Latin stuff I've heard. It was mostly tolerable, although a lot of Spanish singers get annoying quickly in my opinion
it was decent background listening but i was absolutely bodyslammed into the boards by a surprise bongo bong. you gotta warn people.
I do like Manu Chao but Proxima Estacion is a much better album than this. Meh.
could i write poetry to this? n
Background music for a barbecue.
I was not familiar with the artist or album before listening. There's a lot going on and it does have some interesting parts, but overall it's not great. Would probably not come back to it.
it got boring near the end but still has some decent songs
Just wasn't feeling it
every song sounded the same
Fun but not my vibe
Pleasant rhythms, but not in English, so not really for me
Nice album. I can fumble through Spanish and Portuguese, and these song are slow enough for me to pick out the main messages.
It was okay just not my cup of tea
Not something I’d go back to again and again but it was pleasant enough
The singer is not particularly great. Most of the tracks seem so basic and flat. Luna y sol, is the first track that I had any interest in. Por el suelo is alright, but gets a little busy with the samples. Welcome to Tijuana signals something deeper going on here, but I wish there was some tighter production over all. Día Luna... Día pena is a nice track that benefits from being more stripped down.
Not my type of music, but I enjoyed some of the songs, I was even able to recognize a lot of Brazilian stuff on It and It was cool. Unfortynately, there were only 2 songs that I enjoyed listening (Luna y Sol and Welcome to Tijuana), so to match the songs I liked, I will give It a 2 stars.
Not an album I had to hear before I died
I made it three songs. Didn’t hate it but meeehhhhhh
King of the bongo
Never liked Manu Chao's music too much. It always sounded like hipster reggae music to me for people who didn't bother to go into reggae and rather lavished the idea of being some sort of pot smoker on a Saturday evening. They would listen to this music and 'chill' - and that's about it. There is not much interesting stuff on this album but a solid, sometimes boring stream of quality. That's why it makes more of a background listen.
There's some fun tracks here but it didn't do much for me as a whole. I bet there's some "story" behind why this album is on the list, no way it's just the music.
I would have liked to see Mano Negra -Puta’s Fever on the list instead. I love that album.
Eh. This didn't do anything for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't interesting either. Too long, too. 2.25/5
I did not feel anything tbh. It was good, but I also wouldn't play it. nothing bad to say about it, nothing good to say about it either. But I feel like the bad outweighs the good a little bit, as some of the production and sound effects in this was a little annoying and lacked any real substance.
I will need to see verification of those citations on the wikipedia page
Passable
Fun but not for me.
Bored by third song 2/5
Listened Before? N Interesting listen. I don't think I'll revisit it just because it's in Spanish but I did like a few of the songs. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist - Bongo Bongo
This has some interesting bits, but also way too much filler. Not really my cup of tea.
Serves up its vibe perfectly well, its just not one I'm super into. Two and a half. Fave track: Je ne t'aime plus
Started off thinking this was interesting and by the end was pretty sure this was just muzak. Couldn’t get through Bongo Bong without laughing. One and a half. Fave track: Clandestino
I’ve never heard this before but it was all very familiar. I reckon it’s from being played in those weird little independent shops thst primarily stocked incense and incense related wares just off the beaten path from the high streets of every town and when film studios realised their set dressing wasn’t quite Mexican or Cubano enough, they inserted this as soundtrack over cut aways to women standing in doorways and dogs on unpacked streets. Fine overall but nothing to relisten to unless any of the above apply.
I like the random sounds of a kid's ray gun scattered throughout this. I liked this enough to listen to the whole thing but it's not going into rotation. Reading a bit about him and he seems like a cool guy
2 - These songs blended together a lot and it was a pretty dull listen.
It seems to be well-made but it is not my thing. I see it is world music, so this is another example of my disinterest in the genre. I've probably heard some of these songs at mexican restaurants.
Almost a 3, but Bongo bong is super- annoying, and I still resent it's omnipresence back in the day. This is the ultimate backpacker album
Harder for me to get into this album. I have never been all that in to reggae, and while it's clear this is an important album, I'm not sure it's something I enjoyed listening to.
72 of 1001 Manu Chao - Clandestino Rating : 2/5 Favorite Track : Desaparecido I listened.
It was just fine
Just didn’t do it for me
Bits of this were enjoyable, but not the songs in English.
I like the travelogue concept - but I'm having a hard time getting into this, it is so disjointed and never really comes together for me.
I'd heard "Bongo Bong" on a CD Sampler that came with CMJ magazine back in the day, but I'd never been interested enough to seek out the whole album. That was the right move apparently, as the rest of the album doesn't have the same charm. Quirky stuff, and at times enjoyable, but not anything I'd want to listen to again.
I'm not in the "Worldwide" genre at the moment. This might be good for dinner music in the background, but that doesn't happen much in my world.
Antipatičan do boli
This is a French indie rock / rap album? It has a low quality production value that was probably very cool when it came out in the 90's. It's so common place now, that it sounds cheap. It really did not grab me. It wasn't abrasive to my ears, but I can live without it.
Emblematic of my early 20's. I certainly remember bumping through the jungles of El Salvador listening to this one and spending a lot of time with my friend Matt listening to this and probably driving a little fast in his VW. Not one I voluntarily revisit.
I understand why some people would like it but it's not for me. It's ultimately the same Latin feel over 16 tracks with some back to back songs have the same backing track. Not for me 2/5
Meh
Decent tone but didn't have a clue what he was singing about
2.75
Coherent?
Clandestino is the first full-length solo album by French-Spanish singer-songwriter Manu Chao. It is a world music album with tracks in different languages, but primarily Spanish. European consumers really liked this album as it has been certified in many of those countries, but no certifications in the USA. This was a cool, ethnic album to listen to even though I cannot understand the lyrics. I always appreciate hearing popular music from other cultures.
This sounded almost like a pastiche at times. Pleasant enough, but Bongo Bong was a bit silly.
Vaguely interesting but by no means essential.
Hmm okay
Wish I had taken Spanish in school. I faithfully listened to the whole lp. The videos gave me an idea of what some of the songs were about. I liked the music, the Mexican folk style. I even found a Playing for Change video of Clandestino with an amazing mix of musicians
Interesting multi language album. Never heard of this one. After listening, I definitely want to dig in a little to see why this made the top 1001 list. It's seems like it has a pretty big impact in Europe, even though it didn't make as big an impact in the US (at least English speaking).
p822. 1998. 2 stars. Eclectic collection of songs, ideally suited to sun and warmer climes. Unfortunately it is January in Stoke and it's currently -1. Perfectly acceptable fare, but not sure it's essential listening.
Disappointed with this. I remember the CD doing the rounds back in the day so was expecting to recognise a bunch of this. But only Bingo Bongo was familiar and that was not as good as I remembered. Along with a few other tracks, it felt a bit sparse and I was waiting for something else (drum and bass remix?) to kick in. Other tracks I found the nasal tone really painful.
Not my cup of tea. Some of these songs might work as music for breaking bad though.
Ehh... it's ok. It doesn't move me in any way though.
Relatively standard, but enjoyable.
I think that maybe I should like this more than I do. It’s similar to Devendra Barnhart who I have liked. I find the Tijuana one quite funny because he’s from Paris, what does he know about sex and drugs in Tijuana.
not really for me but i see the appeal
Je ne t'aime plus
Def not a fav.
Nääh, ihan lepposia rytmejä jotka kuitenkin jättää kylmäksi.
Ei manuchaohype oikeen muhun silloin purrut, eikä nytkään
No thanks
It was Spanish, it was French- what more can be said? A good tonsil dance
I appreciate what he’s doing but that sound is not really my thing.
Not for me
When I was at university I met a girl towards whom I felt an instant attraction. Funny, cool, beautiful and whip-smart, perhaps her only ostensible failing was that she seemed to take a shine to me. That, and she loved Manu Chao. Imagine, my friends, how exhilarated I felt to have managed to make it to her bedroom. Imagine how deflating it was to learn that she couldn't wait to turn me onto 'Clandestino'. Listening again to this brings back pungent memories of nodding along, muttering crap like "yeah, this is some dope shit" and feeling like I was slowly going insane through a combination of young lust, desperation and in-the-moment loathing of Manu Chao. Anyway, I mellowed and she went on to work for the Conservative Party. I don't hate 'Clandestino' as much as I did back then, but it still sucks. I think 'Bongo Bong' was used in an old Fifa game.
There are a couple of decent party tunes on here, but otherwise it didnt do much for me
international music that I am just not educated on to declare why its on this list
Meh
This was certainly listenable but I would have enjoyed a more dancey vibe. I hadn’t realised that YouTube had progressed to the Bueno Vista Social Club which I was really enjoying ! 3 I think ?
Meh
Not in the mood, didnt pique my interest
Fucking manu chau can fuck right off
Not really my thing
Not my kind of music at all. I can see the merit, though.
Folk, rock, 1998. I'm sorry, but "sex & drugs & rock & roll" is much better than "tequila, sexo y marijuana". Just not my cup of tea.
This is a funny feel good album. I like the rythms. 2.5 ⭐
Not my favorite
This was fine. I'd listened to a bit of Manu Chao before when I was a teenager (it was the exotic international stuff that you listened to because you thought it made you look sophisticated rather than because you actually enjoy it). It's great background music for a bar somewhere where it's sunny, the sea isn't far away, and you're sipping cocktails. Unfortunately I'm in my home office in Bethnal Green and I'm sipping a cold coffee (cold because I made it about an hour ago, not because it's supposed to be). Sun's shining though... Still, not really for me, fine to stick on the background but nothing more. 2/5.
Didn’t care much for it. 4/10
Sure it is almost entirely in Spanish but the album easy to listen to. Overall it was just alright. I don't really remember any of the songs particularly.
No thanks.
Nope. Not for me.
Pretty good album. Not spectacular, but cool vibe.
Was nice soundtrack for the sunny walk, but tbh nothing special. I did like that I heard more than one language through the album.
Not my jam,
Just find Manu Chao a bit.....boring.
The album starts well and is interesting and restrained. Though hitting bongo bong is a hard no, and the rest of the album is up and down... some spoken work interruptions and luna y sol is a bit irritating. Ultimately, i'll steer away from it.
not my thing
Pesao.
Some enjoyable tracks on this bad boy. Still tough to really enjoy a foreign language album
its ok
Chao
not for me it just didnt connect at all, I appreciate the musician ship so this is a personal review about how i felt about it
Mostly background music in a bar on holiday. Bongo Bong was massive though. If it was a footballer, it'd be Lee Hendrie strawpedoing a tropical Reef, then pissing his pants a couple of hours later.
It was just alright for me. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. 2.5 stars.
Not for me
Not for me.
Bongo Bong is the best
Close to a 3 star, didn’t like the final few songs but was good until that point.
Not for me, and tailed off at the end
Nicht meine Musik, Übergänge sind Pog
Gute Übergänge zwischen den Tracks. Zweiter Track the Original Despacito Gute Hintergrundmusik Nicht mein Genre
luna y sol is a bop. Ooh some French in there thats cool guess the dude is bilingual. Won't be revisiting this tho b/c I cant understand 90% of it
pretty cool, just a little repetitive in my opinion but I like the rhythm.
Definitely not a style of music I generally enjoy but gave it a full chance; one positive is that I did enjoy the production ... (I feel like I've cheated this for others who enjoy the genre)
No idea what this was. Not a fan.
This album has most of the hallmarks of Modern Spanish Music. That being said, Manu has made a name for himself by pushing the genre to wider audiences. Even still, this album does little to push the genre further, or even deviate from mild influences of Cuban Jazz or a Latin Beat.
vibey
Really respect the work that went into this - for a person to write an album in NINETEEN NINETY EIGHT using basically only a laptop is impressive. So is his ability to sing and write in so many languages. That said, the album still didn’t hit me. I’m glad to hear this album, but it didn’t resonate. Gotta give it 2 (2.5?) stars.
I want to like this album, but for some reason I think it's just ok. Something about the weird sounds coming in different ears for a lot of the songs. Not rating this lower b/c it's in another language, but more so b/c I didn't like the actual music? Actually impressive it's got like four different languages on this album
Meh, except Kongo Bongo
I don't know how I'm using the stars yet. I gave Jazz Samba a 3, and liked this one a little less. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I prefer Elvis Crespo in this genre.
This is a pleasant listen, it sounds friendly, welcoming, happy. I don't hate it, I don't love it, it's okay.
This was like something I'd hear in a cool restaurant while eating a good meal with drinks.
No es para mí, Clive. I wouldn’t mind a mega cheesy latin reggae album from Señor Chang but this Manu Chao chap can fuck right off. Una estrella.
I know enough Spanish to know what he's singing about, but this i just the same riff over and over again. It's reggae lite. It is whole unworthy of a place here. Period.
Not my thing
Not my thing
This wasn’t as bad as I expected from my vague memories of hearing it in the 90s, but it wasn’t good either.
Nah
Not for me.
With so many brilliant Latin recordings in the world, Dimery chooses one with no energy, no passion, and no virtuosity (the three characteristics that define great Latin music). This has more in common with the other 90s albums on this list than it does with great Latin albums: a stoner of questionable talent wrapped in 90s studio gimmickery to create limp and lifeless hipster pop. There are easily 1000 Latin albums everyone should hear before they die; this isn't even on THAT list.
Har ikke overvundet mig Har hørt albummet 2-3 gange. Synes det er fedt med blandingen af sprogene, men er ikke særlig vild med mixen, der falder lidt fladt og hvor upoleret albummet lyder som en helhed.
Not good at all
Mierdo.
Just not for me
Maybe it’s because it’s 5am and I’m getting ready for work and it’s raining but this ain’t for me
Etwas albern… bing
not my thing 1.5/5
Not my cup of tea
Artiste connu mais pas apprécié. Je n'ai pas pu aller au bout de cet album, je n'aime vraiment pas le reggae/world. =>1/5
Latino swing. Fine for an upbeat tapas restaurant. Not for me.
I find this music extremely irritating. Nails on chalkboard. I hope I never have to listen to this again.
Not my bag but I get why it’s on the list
Nope, not my thing
I did not enjoy this very much.
It’s just really not for me. I like to be able to understand what I’m listening to.
Not for me.
Another one not for me.
OMG. SERIOUSLY?!
If I can’t understand a word it’s not getting rated high. Damn I feel like a boomer with rap music when I say that
Not a fan of this one. The music wasn't interesting enough for me to stay with it through the language difference.
No
Nope. Started listening. Didnt like it
Just not my thing. I got through the album but nothing really grabbed me.
Fuck this restaurant music
Boring, predictable chord progressions. A real snooze.
Not my style.
100% terrible
Some days I'm not in the mood
Not for me. Only gave it a couple of tracks.
Like been on holiday in Benidorm drinking a cold beer in a bar and in the shade. Great when you’re there but instantly forgettable when you get home. 1/5 12/12/24
Only listened to 2 songs. Couldn’t be. Bothered with it
Brazilian nonsense - I ain't got time for this
Stopped listening frist song.
My ex-wife used to listen to this all the time. I never liked it then, and I like it even less now due to the memories…
Not for me
