Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Very high highs, very low lows.

Intressant album

I much prefer "Give Out But Don't Give Up", but this is OK. Too much filler though to be more than average. Loaded and Moving on Up are the stand out tracks. Then there are tracks such as Don't Fight It, Feel It that are too much boring repetitive rave and not enough music.

When your assignment is a previously unknown album called Screamadelica by Primal Scream, you might well imagine something different than this. The only screaming here was when I was begging "Come Together" to please finally end. For the love of God, make it stop! Other than that track, this was a reasonable listen and provided a decent soundtrack to the day. It's not a favorite genre, though, and I have a feeling that this is one of those that will soon slip out of my memory.

nice and catchy am listening rn soo cool

Enjoyed Movin on up, Come Together, Damaged and loaded. Cohesive album, expected screamo... not screamo but don't know what genre it is tbh, very psychedelic. Another 3... would not complain if its on... but probably won't listen to it again willingly for a while.

Interesting

Listenable, but not what is go for

Good vibes, but several songs were a few minutes longer than they had any right being.

It's ok

Definitely felt like a typical Rolling Stones copy at first, but really branched out into some interesting stuff. Nice blend of different genres.

Really appreciated the ambition on this

3.5 gets better each time I hear it.

Light and psychedelic. Was expecting something a little more aggressive but liked it’s mellow vibe

They all sort of fade together after a while and become indistinguishable. More like one long song than 11 individual and unique ones. I enjoyed it for the most part. A little innovative, but not mind blowing. 3/5

Great start to the album but kind of petered out toward the end. Overall was pleasantly surprised. 3.5 / 5 so I'll go 3/5

Skør blanding af alle mulige gerne, lidt indierock, lidt dance, føles rimelig friskt

legalzinho mas não muito empolgante

A nice blend of genres that at the time seemed cutting edge, especially for dance music. It still works but I think it would only really impress with the benefit of nostalgia. I’m guessing it probably means a lot to people who went out dancing to these mostly positive songs. As a suburban kid in the USA, that was not my experience of it unfortunately. None of the songs blow me away at this point—even Movin on Up or Loaded. Still it’s a pleasant enough way to spend an hour and think about a time when it still seemed possible that humanity might get it together.

I like it, its nice and pleasant sounding. I like all the different styles of music that they incorporate to make an interesting musical product. Good, I'll have to have another listen.

Tvö mjög fræg dúndurlög, restin áhugaverð tónlistarblanda og á köflum áheyrileg. En æi, þetta er alveg minn smekkur.

I was listening to this, and I thought, gee, these songs all sound a bit like that long, groovy, repetitive early-90s song - which then popped up as track no 7, Loaded. This whole album made me feel like I was in a Scottish dance club in 1991.

Perhaps the most pleasant surprise thus far.

This was better than I expected 3*

Interesting album. Can't say I loved it, but I can see how this was influential and so I'm giving it an extra star. I thought "Loaded" was pretty good - and I thought I recognized the drum part. I looked it up on "WhoSampled" and was amazed to find that the same drum part (originally from "The Jam" by Graham Central Station) has been used on hundreds of songs! This 1001 Albums Generator has had me listening to a lot of music that I don't exactly love. Sometimes it feels like homework to listen to these albums. But it is certainly expanding my knowledge of music history and pop culture and that is pretty awesome.

Not sure what to make of this hearing it again. I quite enjoyed it, but it sounds fairly pedestrian now.Especially compared to what they did after this. At the time it seemed forward-thinking, with it’s idea of combining catchy rock riffs and dance beats. Some of it sounds like wallpaper now (Higher Than The Sun especially), but that may just be familiarity with the genre / style. Movin’, Come Together and Loaded all still sound great, although it seems telling that these are the ones that seems most easily traceable back to their Rolling Stones roots.

More of an Andrew Weatherall album than a stand alone Scream release. I was very naive in the early 90's. I missed out on all the best drugs and music. So this passed me by, apart from the singles. Loaded was all over the crappy student discos. I soon grew bored. This is a good album, but I'm not prepared to archive it in a Museum celebrating Buzzing Off Yer Tits. It's very dated, but still danceable. Don't Fight It, Feel It is the stand out for me.

Really cool layering of sound affects and good vocals, but the songs were stretched out too long sometimes

Good sound with a few standout tracks that I liked. Damaged and Movin on Up were favorites.

Pretty good late 90’s tech, enjoyed it. Nothing spectacular though

Decent. Some songs kind of just go on without much change in their sound, but they definitely aren’t unpleasant. Overall I like the sunny/druggy sound. 6/10

False advertisement. They did not scream. Was all right though, pretty chill.

90s on an album

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Slip Inside This House (2) 2 - Don't Fight It, Feel It (3) 3 - Higher Than the Sun (4)

Ok if you're in the mood for it.

Not bad. Wouldn’t say it’s my cup of tea, but recognize impact band had on broader sound.

Good time, probably like it more if I was stoned

Enjoyed this a lot!

Movin' On Up is a great way to start a record, and some of the darker songs towards the end (Damaged and I'm Coming Down) are really interesting, but on the whole this just doesn't really do anything for me

Interesting mix of house, jangle pop, and the Madchester scene. Overall the album was enjoyable if not a tad too long.

Interesting house music.

It was alright.

Almost a 4...

Faaaajn

i liked the music i thought it was cute and fun it was just sort of basic? like nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected but it was good.

Patience ran out at the third track. Well, could be some good game BGM but not my thing.

Not my genre at that time, same now.

I liked some of the song but not all.

I only got half way through this but was enjoying it. Time is not my friend.

In the eighties a handful of artists decided to make the move from a post-punk sound to a more rhythmic, dancefloor sound. Maybe they were inspired by Talking Heads’ Remain in Light? The thing I found in common with many of these bands (like Primal Scream) was that I wasn’t exactly rushing to the dancefloor when I heard their songs. That said, there are some interesting tracks here: The lead of track with its gospel choir reminds me a bit of ‘You can’t Always Get What You Want”. I like some of the housy piano-hooks throughout, which weren’t so dated in ’93. The plodding ballads however, highlight the fact that Bobby Gillespie’s voice is better suited for his first band, The Jesus and Mary Chain, than for this type of music.

Pleasing vocals. It definitely has enjoyable bits. But not something I’d listen to. Not much else to say. Highlights: Don’t Fight It, Feel It

An interesting, creative, sonically diverse album. Trippy, quirky, psychedelic, with moments of surprising beauty. I liked this a lot. Fave Songs: Damaged, Higher than the Sun/Dub, Movin' On Up, I'm Comin' Down, Come Together, Loaded, Shine Like Stars

Dance and rock. I did listen to this album quite often back in the 90s'. but haven't really since then. Some decent tracks with Loaded being the my fav still. Not sure why but I don't like it as much as I once did.

An ok listen. Some tracks would be more fun at a club/party. Otherwise… pretty ok but nothing I can see that changed the direction of, or made much of an impact on, music.

i had never hear of this band. It was OK. I don't think I'd listen to it again.

This was an interesting one. I hadn't heard it before, and, honestly, wasn't familiar with any of the songs. So for a smash hit in the UK, it didn't have much crossover awareness, at least not to me. It seems totally acceptable. I didn't love any part of it, nor did I want to turn it off at any time either. Nice blend of rock and dance at times.

Yeah, it’s cool

⭐⭐⭐

Starts and end well but not so good in the middle.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Come together

I always forget Primal Scream isn’t actually screaming and get pleasantly surprised

I’m not sure Primal Scream get enough credit for what they did with rock and electronic music

I thought this was ok, but it really wasn't catching me. I don't have much to say except I don't think I'd choose to listen to it again on my own. 3/5

This really isn’t my thing normally, but it’s pretty good dance music. The production is very of its time, in a charming but still dated way. I much preferred the female vocals to the guy, but he had his moments too. C

Not bad, bit long winded in places now. Was absolutely massive when it came out - carved out a new genre

I have only ever recognized this album from it's cover. I do not know the band, album title, nor any songs on it, but I'll never forget that album art. Some pretty good dance music! Very much leans into some UK psychedelic stuff from around this time. As is the case with most dance music, it leans into repetition, and repetition legitimizes. And because repetition legitimizes, it gives the music a sturdy and reliable foundation for people to dance to. The beat is important! And while I might not get a whole lot out of this band's dance music, I can still appreciate the songs for their approach to alternative dance. Album could've stopped at Damaged though, I feel like that was a good way to cap it off.

Was eine wilde Mischung an Sounds irgendwie?

Has some things I never really heard before which was cool, but overall not that good 5/10

Primal Scream sounds like they would have fit in with other music that I listened to at the time when Screamadelica came out (Soup Dragons, James, Oasis, Blur), but this was all new music for me. I liked the album, and I would be interested in hearing more from the band. "Inner Flight" and "Damaged" were my favorite tracks. "Come Together" - not my favorit song from the Beatles either - was my least favorite track, and might be what sinks this below 4 stars.

This album is all over the place for me; it's like it doesn't know what it wants to be. I hadn't heard of this band before this. The first track I thought the band was one thing, then the next couple of tracks made think it was something else. I... _WANT_ to like this, but the variation is too great. I can't get a bead on what this wants to BE. The detours into electronica were like... playing a country song in the middle of a metallica album. It was too confusing.

I know the first track, wasn't all that interested in the rest of the album when I got pointed in this band's direction. Still not. It almost seems to have a UK sound; like the whistles in Don't Fight it. Feel it - has a soccer stadium kind of feel (chant to the beat). I'm sure these guys inspired or helped move forward bands like the Chemical Brothers or Prodigy (also British) but I'm not sure I care. I prefer the slower stuff toward the end of the album, starting with Damaged (though it sounds a bit like a slower version of Movin on Up). In the end, I guess it's not terrible.

Interesting! I really liked the more electronic tracks.

Indie rock meets electronica, an album devout of any highlights or anything worthwhile remembering

Okay, first of all: great album art! Next, I enjoyed this one. Wasn't sure what to expect and I liked hearing the different tracks. Some of the songs are fantastic. There's some really good stuff here.

Funky 90s dance rock

At first, I liked the sound of this album but as it went on I got more and more tired of it. Some of the songs are way too long and repetitive but others that have actual vocals are pretty good. Fav: damaged

bit of a random mix of stuff, but pretty enjoyable

Kind of stopped listening tbh

Eh... "Moving On Up" is great

Already a fan, especially of the heavier XTRMNTR. This is an easygoing hop on the House wagon. Try as hard as I might I find it difficult to link Primal Scream to JAMC, but I love them both. This album is a breakthrough and lots of fun. I love that the album cover art was inspired by a water stain on the ceiling during an LSD trip.

Some bangers, but mostly "meh"

It's alright, bit overrated.

'Loaded' of course is immense but I'm struggling to find much else that I'll listen to again

The first song comes out screaming. Loaded is fantastic. Don't know that I would recommend the others.

It certainly wasn't what i expected from the band and album name. It's a little too much "Jesus Jones" and dated electronic. There are some fun bits (Loaded) that make it interesting... but nothing really that i loved.

Its ok, not my fav

An interesting mix of electronic and rock.

Liked it a lot more at the time, but still a good album

Ganz okay. Bisschen weird. Gibt bessere

I thought it was a cool genre blend; I appreciate artist that have albums with lots of variety. A few songs I thought were quite great, but some I didn't like, including as the club dance-sounding music or some of the slower trance songs. The songs that were good, were really good. Bit too much electronica for my taste. Singer sounds like a mix between Mick Jagger and Thom Yorke. i think my favorite was Come Together. Not a fan of the 80s/90s-sounding drum machines, but that's just a personal preference.

Smh… 🤦‍♀️

Pretty cool. The fact that it features so many different collaborators probably contributes to the variance in quality between songs.

I had an unpleasant duty of listening to their "Vanishing Point" earlier. "Screamadelica" is three times better, which is not a great achievement, but I even felt some kind of pleasure while listening to the first song.

Some very good rhythms in there, surrounded by a bit too much fluff to make this a truly great album.

How did they get away with this? 'Movin' on up' is so Rolling Stones you can hardly believe it isn't them. It's the 'Sympathy for the devil' rhythm track mixed with the 'You can't always get what you want' choir. But it's still great to listen to. 'Loaded' is George Michael's ''Freedom 90' shamelessly stolen (and also is the 'Sympathy for the devil' rhythm track. I can't believe they weren't sued to hell and back. Great to listen to but they stole if all..

I'll admit to pre-judging this album based on the title, the band name, and the cover art. Everything about those three thing made be dread what I was about to listen to - but I actually kinda dug it. It was a real interesting and creative mix of genres. My apologies.

I really like the sound of Primal Scream and Loaded is one of my favorite songs ever but this album drags during large periods

A Album devoted to mediocre imitations of Sixties pop. A dance album that was propelled by both strong disco beats and Rolling Stones-like riffs, that fused acid-house and blues-rock. (6/10) Favourite Songs: Movin' on up, Inner Flight

When it’s good it’s great

-Meaty bass in "Slip Inside This House" -"Don't Fight It, Feel It" is nice and upbeat -"Higher Than the Sun - A Dub Symphony in Two Parts" is quite cool -A strong 3, but nothing in particular draws me to listen again

On their third album, Primal Scream moved away from their bluesy rock and asked house producers to remix their music, creating a chill out/ come down album. In the process, they created two absolute classic tracks in Movin’ On Up and Loaded. But the overall album is lengthy and tracks lack variety for sustained repeat interest. An album to reach for to help you sleep perhaps? That isn’t quite the insult it sounds like though, because that is in the post the dreamlike mood the band want to create for the listener.

Opening track is a classic (memories of cruising through the desert on GTA San Andreas while cranking this tune). Rest of the album? Meh.

meh...

Damaged is now in my rotation. Was pretty cool.

My first album that I knew absolutely nothing about and it wasn't bad! Definitely a lot of psychedelic and 70s rock influences mixed in with a bit of early 90s Brit pop. Was a good listen for just walking around aimlessly.

Expected screamo music. Not the case. Some of it was actually pretty good. Movin on up was good. Fairly up and down in terms of what I liked.

Really enjoyed around half of it! An interesting mix of genres and styles but they all definitely seem to work together.

Loaded is a great track, but while this album has music festival energy it’s fairly lacklustre other than this and Movin On Up.

I think I listened to my dad's copy many years ago, but happy to give it a fresh listen. It sounds like an indie band remixed by a DJ, which is what it is. I was pretty disappointed by the other Andrew Weatherall project I had a few pages back in this thread. But happily, the most house-leaning tracks (like "Don't Fight it, Feel it") are strong. The few tracks of straight-up 60s psychedelic rock homage are pretty dull. The vocal samples around "Come Together" and "Loaded" are cheap, and the album feels bloated at 1 hour 5 mins. Slightly strange that the album is regarded as groundbreaking, when it's a logical extension of what Happy Mondays and other bands had been doing for a few years. However, it's pretty fun and cool. 3/5

Not great, not terrible.

The songs I liked, I really liked but the others were just okay.

Two listens is not enough for this one, and being sober isn't suitable either! Overall, I like the inspirational stuff like Movin' On Up, Come Together, Loaded and I'm Coming Down. They make great use of samples, and I like when they mess around with all kinds of varied percussion instruments. I'm not such a fan of the drawn out repetitive parts, but it's definitely growing on me so will revisit this some day.

This album had SO many sounds of the 90's. Whether it was the bells and whistles found in Don't Fight it, Feel it or the media samples used in Loaded. The pure variety of styles shown throughout the album was impressive. The album lost me a bit during the Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony in Two Parts) though.

Really liked Come Together and the opening track was cool too. Other than that, I wasn't too interested

Some bangers but a bit erratic, not very structured

Some really nice individual tunes, just would never relisten as an album

A little bit of everything and nothing. They sound like Rolling Stones but have a ton of other influences. Was fun to listen to outside.

A little too rave-y in places

iz alright

I really had no idea what to expect. I had heard of Primal Scream but wasn't familiar. It was pretty good. Interesting songs, well produced. 3 stars.

All right. I can appreciate the house thing but was never at all of that scene.

Not a huge fan. Lots of the tracks were way too abstract to pull of the 6min+ run time.

Better than expected

Something I'd listen to walking down the street on a sunny summer's day. Definitely a vibe. If I was there I would've given it a 4 but unfortunately it's winter time right now so it's a 3 from me.

surprisingly not screamy!

You know. This just wasn't really for me. However the bangers on it. Christ.

Groovy, eh so so. Good background I suppose

had movin' on up. other interesting songs. does primal scream really need another album on this list?

I Never heared of this band before. Really enjoyed this album.

Neat stuff, 2000s-sounding rock/electronic hybrid.

Pretty interesting at times but overall somewhat boring with lack luster lyrics throughout

I can see why it was revolutionary when it came out

eclectic hippie vibe

Decent spreadsheet music but not something I would actively listen to.

So so album

2/10 Somewhat let down? Standout Tracks: Slip Inside This House, Don’t Fight It Feel It, Inner Flight

This isn't bad, just a whole lot of 1990s sounds for an hour. I'll never listen to it again but it wasn't a TOTAL chore. Went a bit too long though, wore out its welcome. Gen X must be proud. 3/5.

Top : Movin' on Up Flop : Don't Fight It Feel It

Wow I am shocked this was released during the 90s. There were some good moments here, but overall the record was way too long.

I didn't particularly enjoy this, but it wasn't terrible. It felt kind of confused. None of the musical styles it was playing with really worked for me.

I enjoyed what I think was their follow-up a bit more. A good bit more. This is too much of a case of "Not sure if we want to be The Happy Mondays or New Order or The Stones or... Uhm... Something else entirely."

Extremely Not For Me.

hauskoja sampleja ja saundeja. Fatboy slim tyyliin

First song is a tease, as the rest of the album sounds nothing like it, which is a real shame. For the majority of the 87 minutes spent listening to this, I couldn't wait for each song to end. Repetitive, psychedelic and largely boring.

This started to get annoying.

Not what I was expecting. At times it was pretty good but other times I didn’t care for it much. 2.5

A bit boring

One decent song.

The rock stuff was cool. The rest wasn’t

No me gustó mucho

Ranging from annoying to background noise, this was a pointless scream.

A double album of British basic white boy indie house music! Wow! Look, double albums are inherently evil, but when you give me over 90 minutes of shyte, it feels like a personal attack. This was wildly popular - in the UK. And literally nowhere else. It is not unique, influential, nor popular. It has no business on this list. We Yanks would call them a one-hit wonder and reduce them to a footnote. Y'all seem to think we just have to listen to this before we die because reasons. I was on such a great roll, too.

I genuinely cannot tell how I felt about that.

This album was... different.

I dig this album when they lean into their psychedelic side and I can't stand it when they lean into the rave side. Unfortunately, the parts I dug couldn't quite stand up to the parts I couldn't stand.

Very underwhelming for a band called primal scream. I usually like some of the old electronic type music but this was kind of all over the place and I didn't like it.

The main thing I know about Primal Scream is that they have a signature guitar. You them a lot in our Canadian guitar store chain. I was surprised then that it’s not really guitar music. That’s not a knock, just an observation. However, I can’t say I got anything out of this.

Bit underwhelmed but this to be honest give how much it’s held up as a classic album. The singles are solid but there’s a lot of filler

I might give this one another chance at some point, but this listen didn't give me much to be excited about. Some early 90s indie rock vibes with a bit of acid rock flare thrown in.

I couldn’t really get into this one. It was kind of all over the place but not in a good way.

There were a couple good songs in here. A lot of it seemed like filler to me and not too interesting.

Raro bien o bien raro?

Bland. Maybe conditions of listening but I'm not excited by anything I'm hearing. I don't even feel an intense negative toward anything. It's just there.

it had that one good song

Didn’t really do it for me. Apart from Moving on Up, Loaded and Damaged. Heard so many good things about this album and I was unfortunately left disappointed

The first song slapped. Then it delved into British club shit. Repetitive beats, sounds and noises. Just not what I like, not what I really want to listen to. And if I have to keep looking to see how many songs are left and wondering when it'll be over, I can't go higher than a 2. I'm finally almost done with it...and I'm not a George Michael expert, but there's a lot of stuff in here that seems to remind me of some of his big hits. It's like they're reaching for his big swing and grooves and come up short.

Forgot it was there. For something named Primal Scream, it’s quite tame.

I found this to be pretty boring overall.

I was expecting and prepared for this to absolutely suck, but surprisingly it began fairly decently and I thought this might eck out a 3 star rating, but alas, the album just went on way too long and the last few tracks were horrific. They’d have been better off ending this at 9 tracks and about 45 minutes and avoiding the BS at the end.

It's got a couple of good tracks and that's about it

this just made me want to listen to other music i like more ... Loaded in particular felt like an alternate backing track to Freedom! ('90), which i put on the second this album started to repeat. 2.5

This album was a long blade of grass. By and large, this album was songs that dragged on too long and didn't really stimulate my musical tastebuds. However! There are a couple of damn good highlights. Favorite track was Damaged, with a shout out to Movie' on Up.

More like 2.5 but def not 3

It’s a mix of 60s psychedelic and 90s (mostly djing). It probably isnt that bad but it gave me no joy

An album that doesn’t know what it wants to be. At its best, mediocre Rolling Stones wannabes. At its worst, drag and drop dance music that sounds like the crap I was making on GarageBand in middle school.

The album name scared me It's good background music I guess

Just don't get Primal Scream, how is Moving on up such a banger but the rest of it is a bit mid. Maybe you had to be there. Saw them live at a festival a couple of years ago and old mate the singer was not in a good mood.

Not bad. I didn't hate it.

Death metal? Nope, just crappy house music.

1/3. I liked Damaged, but DNF. It was pleasant enough, but I think you needed to be on as much acid as these guys were to really get the experience. Not my thing overall.

A combination of uninspired house music and uninspired retro music that makes you nostalgic for other, better music. Was clock-watching quite a bit on this one.

I enjoyed Higher than the Sun, but not much else. Not a fan of the vocals.

2.5 - Meh

Day798 - not what i was expecting. it wasn’t all good but movin on up an loaded were pretty good

Bad, bad. Blegh! 2/5

First song wasn’t exactly my thing, but it inspired hope that I might like this more than I would expect from an album with -adelica in the title. That fell apart pretty quick. Not quite a 1 but barely a 2.

This was fine, I guess. FAR too long.

Wildly inconsistent album but I think it helped me enjoy it more. Honestly a 2 for me as some songs save it from being just another electronic album, maybe a 2.5?

It's tough to completely hate an album with some catchy bops like "Movin' on Up" and "Come Together," but the dance-able infectiousness of those tunes mostly serves to highlight the schizophrenic nature of the whole effort when contrasted with the slow electronica jams that make up the bulk of the hour-long running time. Primal Scream was talented enough, I suppose, but the inclusion of two of their albums on a list of nearly 1,100 that includes ZERO albums from Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Famer Warren Zevon is one of MANY examples of how musical tastes are pretty much subjective to the times and places most relevant to the listener.

I'm not sure what the hell this was but I do know it wasn't enjoyable. It's a haphazard collection of sounds loosely assembled into random lengths of time. There's no real purpose to any of it and none of it really caught my attention.

I clicked play expecting a rather heavy rock type of music but i bumped into a very experimental journey. Unfortunately, it's too out of the box for me.

Well, nothing special here for me, just eh....

It sounds like Moby's "Play" which came out 8 years later. I'm not sure if Primal Scream was ahead of the game or Moby was behind; whatever the case, unless you're making a car commercial, it mostly sucks.

This is a weird mix of alternative and electronic dance. But neither of the parts are outstanding in any way. And the sum isn’t really greater than the parts either. The whole thing is meh.

This was an album. Screamdelica defies logic because it doesn't flow and sounds so disjointed from one song to the next. But it is music after all. A few songs had good hooks! A lot of house/dance can be too repetitive for my ears, but that wasn't the case here. But I don't feel passionate! An interesting listen that expanded my horizons, sure, but I won't come back to it. The length didn't help matters.

Yet another odd album that really defies genre explanation because each song is practically an entirely different genre altogether. Unfortunately, it also defies being enjoyable to listen to. It wasn't BAD, but it really didn't have a hook that lasted longer than a song or two.

i like some songs. I think that's general trend for me but other songs are really not my cup of tea. The songs I like the best are the ones that sound like cute video game background music. the songs I like the least are the ones that have vocals

not for me.. vissa låtar lät lite som en tråkigare brian jonestown massacre..

Another Primal Scream album. Typical 90s house/dub/whatever. I guess they were one of the pioneers of the genre. a host of influences; psychedelia, reggae, punk, jazz, disco, gospel. Works quite well in this genre, but not appealing to me really. Two Primal Scream albums in a week, but I suppose that proves this is a random generator. Anyway, there are no more in the book so I should be safe now. ;0). Update, I stuck it out for 9 of the 11 tracks before I got bored off my tits

It did not care for it as a whole piece. It was just okay. Two stars

It’s a washing machine of blended genres — the towels are thrown in with sheets, work clothes, whites, pajamas, dress clothes, and everything on the floor. It’s not too bad, but doesn’t SCREAM focused either. 1.8/5.0

Should have been entitled “I am a wart on Mick Jagger’s penis”. It’s just about ok

The enjoyable tracks become less enjoyable around the 5:30 mark. This unfortunately is also the case with the songs that start out unenjoyable.

Sounds like the Rolling Stones are being watered down with the lackluster missionary sex between spouses only practiced during sad, often labeled "special", events. Like your birthday 💀🔥

its the way this sucked so much ass. bruh i hate british people

Wasn’t a big fan when it came out, overplayed for me. A couple of big tracks but I don’t like the sound

A shame that an album with such a nice cover can be so bad. The second half of this album really saved it for me though. The run from Come Together to Loaded to Damaged was the highlight for me.

Boring. I knew one song (Movin’ on Up) and recognized another. I’m just not into dance music.

Not actively bad, but not for me

Don't really know what this is trying to achieve, it's a bit too meandering and scattered for it to be properly enjoyable, too. Gen Xers would get it, I guess.

A month from now I won’t remember this album at all 👋

Another painfully slow album. It's ok once again not my thing.

What a cruel mix of Dance, Trip Hop, Psychedelia and Rock. Not for me.

This started off strong and then I got to a song that sounded like "Rhythm is a Dancer".

For the right mood, ok. Not in the mood today. 2.5

Damaged was a good song but overall didn’t think much of the album.

Weird ass indie that tries too hard to be interesting.

Has not aged well.

I liked Movin' On Up, the rest of it was not for me.

An eclectic blend, that's not near as deep or as great as people claim it is.

491/1001

Talk about an album I wanted to like more than I did. It starts off strong. Awesome early 90s production, very British craftsmanship. And then, it devolves into half-baked ideas, strange club beats, and very "we made this music for very stoned individuals" choices. Not a terrible listen. Just a disappointing one. Extra point for a GREAT album cover, though. 4/10

Very psychedelic. Might be for some people, but not for me. Too many confusing ideas. Favorite Songs: Shine Like the Stars

Front half is interesting from an eclectic standpoint, but it diverges really hard in the second half. Lost me with all those 6/7-minute whateverthefuck

First song is good, then an hour of rubbish

Moving on up is a good way to start, but the rest of the album never really hits those heights again. Also, some of the songs are way too long, which made it get boring at points

I only know of Primal Scream from “Movin’ on up”, although I can never remember their band name for some reason. The album starts of with the hit song and all is fine and dandy. After that it quickly changes to some sort of club beats, flirting with techno. I wasn’t really a fan. It became obvious why I’ve only ever heard of one track from this album, the rest aren’t really that good, or even in the same style. “Loaded” was ok with it’s breezy beats. Not bad, but just felt mediocre. Strong 2.

Well, it was kind of a let down. The band name seemed ok and the album cover is awesome. Honestly there were some ok grooves, but really I didn’t like it and was glad when I was done.

This album is kinda all over the place. I thought I had accidentally clicked on a George Michael album because of the first song. Then it becomes a 90s jazzercise album. The song "Loaded" is pretty good too, but it's just everywhere in 90s music. So...so so.

In the right context this would have more impact. However, I was not under the influence of anything and it was a crisp fall afternoon; more conducive to Sjufan Stevens than Primal Scream. I did really like 'Don't Fight It..." and the Jah Wobble section in the reprise of "Higher Than the Sun. Pretty contrived, another one ruined by the singer.

I have heard "Movin on up" many times before. Good song. The rest of the album got a bit strange and not very exciting. I won't be keeping the album.

Loaded

Truly amazing how many songs can be on the same album but not be similar. 2/5 6.2/10

I didn't enjoy Primal Scream very much, the first song - Movin' on Up - is great, but the rest of the songs are quite different and not my jam at all.

A bit long and boring

This was a really interesting one. So many different genres in here, it was hard to keep track. It wasn't exactly my type of album so it get's a two but it's something that might grow on me.

Ik kende het niet en dacht eerst. Wow leuke 90s sound.

Huh. Some of those songs are familiar.

I couldn't make heads or tails of what to expect from the title/band name, the album art, and then reading the Wikipedia summary. What I got was unfortunately less interesting than all of that. Not bad though. Some variety to it at least, but nothing stood out to me as something I'd want to listen to again. Nothing Liked.

A bit all over the place and feels a bit dated, though prob felt anything but in 91.

Little funky and weird for me

I actually liked the Electronic Dance bits more than the Soul Music, which came across as plastic imitation. I would say that this music is too British to have traveled to America, but others as Anglo as Primal Scream did just fine here. Just wasn't in the cards for them, I guess. Minus one half-star for opening the album with a blatant Crosby, Stills, and Nash rip-off.

Sounds unique for the time, but I feel like it hasn’t really impacted the music scene in any notable way.

Dance tracks were awful. Non-dance tracks had me scratching my head. This album seems confused.

There's something deep inside of me that really wants this album to be called "Screamadelphia", but Primal Scream is Scottish, so we can forgive them for making that mistake. Other than that major issue, this album feels like it doesn't have much of a direction. There's a big variety here, and sometimes it just feels like noise for the sake of noise. Most of it isn't bad, but the band could use a little bit of a "less is more" mentality on some of the tracks.

It's certainly interesting, druggy house music kind of vibe. Not really my thing. Different from other Primal Scream I've heard.

I don't know what to make of this album...seems like a mediocre mixed tape of the most popular 90s genres. Feels a bit uneven for me. I didn't hate it, but don't think I need to listen to it again.

Not really my thing

This wasn't terrible, however as I was not dropping ecstasy and rolling in a club in the 90s,i didn't think it was great. It was repetitive, and just made me think of adverts, as that's what the music is used for now

not my cup of tea

The first song had me pumped but I felt the album very quickly lost steam. Didn't really like it. Headphones ran out of battery second to last song and didn't bother to finish it.

Couple of songs I enjoyed but a couple I reallllllly didn’t. Don’t feel the need to listen to again

Some interesting concepts, but didn’t really tickle my fancy.

A messy disjointed album. I feel like it doesn't quite know what its going for. 2/5

Fucking boring and not one scream

Primal Scream, Primal Scream... banda RARA. Después viene Come Together: diez minutos. Repito: diez minutos. Completamente innecesario. Deberían haberla puesto en el superior Give Out but Don't Give Up. Gente, escuchen cualquier otro disco de la banda: Give Out but Don't Give Up, XTRMNTR, Vanishing Point, Evil Heat. Les prometo que son mejores.

It was fine, but the songs got way too long.

I just do not get the hype for this album at all Come Together and Loaded are good but outside of that is a lot of trippy noodling that leaves me feeling bored

Some interesting sounds but just boring to listen to in 2025

One-third of this record consists of regular rock tunes, albeit third-rate all-style-and-no-substance pastiches of 70s-era Rolling Stones. The other two-thirds has dance music producers remixin' and deconstructin' the band's thin material in order to make it funky. Out of the latter, only "Loaded" succeeds - the rest is a borefest of baggy beats and clattering percussion that leaves no impact.

Is this where that TV commercial sound of 1990-1996 or so came from? Faux electronic-rock that somehow comes off the worse of the two genres? A mix between the hippie revival and rave culture and pub rock? I always felt this style of music was strictly, and I mean strictly, for commercial purposes. It permeated European radio and television for every product imaginable for a long, long time. Even the album cover is stuck to that era. The straight rock songs on here, like "Damanged" and "Movin On Up" are fine enough, though kinda boring. "Loaded" is what happens when someone thinks they can make a whole song out of the opening chords to George Michael's "Freedom". The more electronic and/or dance songs are slightly better but even they are the absolute distilled essence of the early 90's and I seriously cannot escape the idea that this whole album belongs in a commercial for jeans or a compact car. The dub version of "Higher Than The Sun" is a high point, and I think this is what the producer was ultimately trying to achieve with a mix of genres here. For me it's the only fundamentally interesting track that blends a bunch of things well, with the others just being sort of exactly what you would expect if you told some modern AI model to just mash up some genres in a major key. I don't hate this album but for a reason I can't quite articulate, I dislike it. Everything in it seems like an obvious conclusion to a set of very basic ideas and I don't like that.

Not my thing at all

I’m not sure what I think about this album. I don’t hate it, but I’m not sure I like it either. The beats and rhythms are certainly interesting. Some of the lyrics are good. However, it’s not something I would revisit or necessarily feel I even needed to hear.

not for me

A couple of good tracks.

no. too much sounds. es un pupuri q es qda en un no res. es salva com només 1/2 cançons. get better.

If this were half as long I would give it +1 star. But it is entirely too experimental without a clear direction. Yes, it is cool from and indie perspective in that it samples and plays with different styles. That’s good for a song or 2…

Only a few notable songs. The latter half is incredibly dry.
