not a fan. tried.

nah this shit kinda buns

Best Song: Loaded This is my first time hearing Primal Scream but always thought the band name was cool. This album did nothing for me though. Goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover any more than you can judge a band by its name. I'd much rather listen to the Motley Crue song Primal Scream than this album - and that is really saying something. The only thing worse than bad house music is a rock band's attempt at bad house music. Boring and repetitive. 2/5.

#644. It started off pretty decent, honestly, but it quickly devolved into background noise. 2/5: meh

Remembered this from when it was released: didn't rate it then; sounds so dated now. Movin' on up is such a bad Stones pastiche. Higher than the sun still sounded decent, buy overall I couldn't wait for the album to be over to be honest.

One decent song doesn't equal a great album

This was frankly bizarre and quite a chore to listen to with it's run time of 60+ minutes. It was evident in every song that this was meant to be a trippy, "go do acid" type of music which really wasn't meshing personally. This will receive a 2/5 out of 5.

Movin' on up was a banger but it quickly went downhill from there. Didn't really enjoy the album's vibe.

Interesting to say the least. Not something I could get into but I did like the Cover of Slip Inside This House which was originaly done by one of my favorite band The 13th Floor Elevators.

whatever. minus 1 star for naming yourself primal scream when you sound like hall & oates doing house music

Not really my vibe, sounds good for a shoom trip lol

again not memorable... sadly not a hit

Nothing on this album grabbed me. I tried to latch onto something that warranted a repeat listen, but maybe it's just not for me. I kept feeling like the songs were dragging their feet to their inevitable ends and at points some of the choices seemed like they lacked authenticity. No favorites.

Parts of it were good and others were ???

sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit 2/5

Heard it before. Honestly I could never understand why it's such a popular album and listening to it again didn't answer my questions. It's fine but doesn't have anything "wow" about it 2/5

Not enjoyable background music

bland wallpaper music

Mostly tedious and awful

A weird mix of electronic and standard band writing that doesn't mix for me. Each song makes me wish I was listening to a different better song. Everything is also just too long each track and the album as a whole.

I felt strange.

strange, not the worst album on this list

Honestly, could barely get through the whole album, I like a few of the songs that had the Rolling Stones feel to it, little mix of psychedelic and rock to it, but a lot of the songs were just not great for me, I’ll give it a two out of five, Not bad enough to be a one, but not good enough for a full too. I don’t think I could recommend it to people.

wtf they lied to me not a single scream was scrumpt. ragequitting this album rn

Beeps and Boops, but nothing beyond

Not 4 me

If I recall correctly, I gave Primal Scream a shot some time back in the day, and it didn’t take. Even though they're Scottish, their Madchester vibe brings too much trance and dance into my rock and roll. Not even the stronger psychedelic touches can save this one; it still feels like drippy, trippy weak sauce for a new era of hippies. I think that when what was once novel meets the distance of time, we can hear things more clearly. And I don't think time has been kind to this album.

Movin on up is great but didn’t like the rest

Startet ganske kult og lovende men så... hva skjedde??

Bold and experimental, with some highlights that defined the decade. A good shake up of what a psychedelic rock band could be. Many songs do go on for more than necessary though. Best Tracks: - Movin On Up - Loaded Worst Tracks: - Inner Flight - Higher Than The Sun Rating: 4.5/10

Meh - I know the singles and it's an interesting album I guess combining that early 90s dance, some rock stuff and elements of gospel and whatnot but I just didn't really enjoy it...

Movin' On Up sounds like a lost Rolling Stones recording. I really enjoyed that song, but the rest of the album was a bit too electronic for my taste. I really like PS's next album, which was more rock based.

God this was interminable. Never ending dull shite.

This album changed so much from song to song that it's really hard to say what I liked and didn't like.

Writing this about an hour after finishing the album and haven’t listened to anything else since. I can say there was nothing memorable about this

Smorgasbord of mediocrity.

This decidedly falls into the “not for me” category. Quit after 5 or 6 songs and went back to finish the white album (it is so long).

I remember listening to part of this album back in the 90's and not being impressed. A lot of time has passed since then and I have changed a lot. I still think this sucks. It's music for a certain type of person on a certain type of substance. I'm not that type of person and although having dabbled, those type of substances aren't my thing.

An album that blends house and indie music and does neither very well. Damaged wasn't bad. Ok melody and well-written. Loaded is pretty iconic, great use of sampling from Wild Angels, enjoyable tune heaped with nostalgia from that era. Overall, it's a bit nothingy with a few brief moments of vibey goodness.

There wasn’t really anything memorable about this

# 413 : I don't love it, I don't hate it. I thought it was very ordinary quite long and rather forgettable. This was another album where I didn't feel like it warranted the "must hear before you die" label. Honourable mention: Movin' On Up

My ex’s absolute favorite. I have no choice but to hate it.

I've known and enjoyed the song Damaged before listening to the entire thing. I wish the rest left more of an impression on me but I don't care as much for this as I wanted to.

"Movin on up", "Loaded", "Damaged" are just o.k.

What a random hodge-podge of different styles, methods and sounds. Some I liked. Some I wanted to skip right through. Absolutely no rhyme or reason or common theme to the album.

Weird sounds, reminds me of random noise, crickets, frogs, etc. A lot of instrumental but not the greatest

Movin on up is a great tune and great way to start an album and set the tone. Unfortunately, the album goes downhill very quickly, as the album progresses it gets worse. Psychedelic background music is a struggle and not an easy listen. I have had this album in my collection for years and years and this challenge is the first time I have managed to get all the way through it. The album has some great moments though that give it a score of 3/5 like come together and loaded (even though loaded is about 4 minutes too long) Favourite song: Movin on up Least favourite: Dont fight it, feel it and inner flight. Album artwork: Brilliant cover

So mostly this album made me wish I was “loaded” or high to listen to it. Movin on Up may be the only song I recognized. And most of the music was instrumental only.

There are a couple of songs that come across as middling Rolling Stones outtakes, and the rest sounds like the music the farmer from Shaun the Sheep would listen to.

I wanted to like this album, but it was honestly a slog to get through. I think it's redeemable enough for a 2, but I don't want to listen to the whole thing again. There are fun psychedelic moments, like on Inner Flight, but in general, this album feels like a hollow representation of the early 90s. Best Songs: Movin' on Up, Damaged Worst Songs: Higher than the Sun, Come Together

Low intensity hypnotic electronica. pass.

This album was ok. Best song on it was the first one, Movin' On Up which makes you think you've heard it before as it sounds similar to a George Michael song. There are a couple other decent songs on here though most of it veers into the electronics genre. Overall o... k...

This really fell into the background for me. It was just ok

I think I've summoned this album by mentioning that the bloke from primal scream has a full voice a few reviews ago. Don't really get primal scream, I want to like them sometimes but I feel they are a proper nothing band. Never particularly exciting or chilled, happy or sad, they always just coast along. Some decent sampling here and there, mildly psychedelic, but I'm just not a fan

The album is too long and too boring. Really middling. Sure, it does sound ahead of its time, but not all futuristic-sounding albums hold up. Movin' on Up is decent, but everything is played to the same tempo with a very similar drum beat. Not awful, but definitely won't be returning.

Didn’t resonate with me much. Some songs were enjoyable and “trippy”. I could feel lots of 70s ifluence with what was going on in the 90s, extremely pleasant. But it is one of these albums i might never get back to. Maybe some songs i would. All in all? I love the master, so chill and pleasant to the ear.

I liked the Oasis-like songs better than the euro-techno songs. Unfortunately, there were more euro techno songs. Ultimately it was just kind of forgettable.

It started off with a bang, and then transitioned into instrumental lullabies, and nonsensical lyrics. It has its moments, but this inappropriately named album isn't blowing me away. Favorite Song: "Movin' On Up"

Good alternative band. Good music. Enjoyed listening.

I don't like this.

A lot of this album sounds the same. Not bad but nothing ground breaking

A throwback that wasn't entirely welcome. Couldn't tell if I actually like the opening song -- or if it's just familiar. & much of the rest of the album felt very similar (soaring gospel choirs backing a whiny British vocalist intermixed with trance-y 90s beats) or a little monotonous. Sure, it was maybe ahead of it's time but unlike Massive Attack, is definitely a bit one note.

Utterly shippable. Next!

OKAY OKAY I didn’t listen to the whole thing but I got the idea. Didn’t offend me or piss me off, just didn’t interest me much.

The first track was alright, but I'm struggling to get anything from the following tracks. Maybe this was ahead of it's time? Is that why it's here? It's well constructed, just doesn't inspire repeat listening.

another meh

It was fine. Not much to write home about and not screamo music

Pari passelia biisiä, ei muuta. Ehkä voisi kuunnella uudelleen.

This band if far from being a Rock band. Rather, this album is an amalgam of indie rock, dance, prog, instrumental and more. As such, it's mixed bag. There are a couple of generic dance tracks, which are utterly forgettable. Higher Than the Sund and Come Together, the longest track, are particularly annoying. Inner Flight, on the other hand, is an utterly beautiful instrumental that I liked instantly. But sadly, the annoying moments prevail. 2/5

rock/indie my ass this is electronic lmao anyway, i generally dislike electronic music with rare exceptions, this wasnt one of them but also wasnt insufferable

Weird album with a lot too much drum. machine and synthetic house beats for my liking. Occasionally it slipped into something interesting, but mostly seems washed up and unpleasant and regrettable.

Lacks screaming.

10% exciting, 90% boring

Probably among the biggest disappointments I've had on here. This has been on my radar for years but don't think I've ever given it the time it deserves. Turns out that isn't a lot of time at all. Aged pretty poorly, felt like another Happy Mondays-esque taking as much ecstacy as possible to see if something sticks. Like if Stone Roses went off the rails. Might have been something in this if it was half the length, but by the last 2-4 minutes of each track I was midnumbingly bored. Huge let down.

Not really my thing. "Loaded" was used for a song that I like as a sample.

Not as good as I thought

Not a big fan of this album. The dance/house music inspiration and vibes in this result in a lot of songs being repetitive and droning. I did like Movin' On Up and Damaged though. 2/5

A lighter album than the name would give credit to. Not relaxing, though.

Very melodic, moving in up sounds like "freedom"

I thought I liked Screamadelica from a previous listen but I now realise my opinion was strongly influenced by Moving on Up. The long, repetitive psychedelic rave type tracks (example: Don't Fight It, Feel It) are pretty tedious. Come Together and Loaded are pretty fun, but most of the others bored me. I guess you had to be there at the time

kept getting worse and worse.

i remember the first time i heard this a couple years ago, the names "Primal Scream" and "Screamadelica" led to me to believe i was about to experience some cool as fuck weirdo psychedelic punk music, and instead i just got some fairly psychedelic rock with a big heaping helping of grating house music. at least Loaded is a fucking banger

One or two tracks were interesting

Not what I like...again. Please God, don't let the next one be Soup Dragons...

The title and cover made me think this would be punk or metal. What it actually was works fine as background music, but I was disappointed nevertheless. Although it was better and more varied than some other similar albums (I can’t think of which specifically), the fact that I kept checking to see how close it was to ending makes it hard to give more than 2 stars.

OK. I liked the last primal scream album better.

2 I recognize this little blue dude on the cover, so I’m assuming this album is pretty famous (well, that and because it’s on a list of the 1001 supposed best), but man, this just did not speak to me at all. I really try to give every album a fair shake and not dismiss based purely on genre, but there’s something about electronic dance music that just doesn’t do it for me, especially something as club-leaning as this - which, is weird both because I am someone who enjoys dancing (after a couple beers, granted) and because this group apparently identifies as a rock band. Granted, the further you get into this, the more diverse in sound it admittedly becomes, but LCD Soundsystem this group is not - there wasn’t really anything here I found overly catchy. The songs are also way too long, to the point that I was over this about halfway through, but I will at least give them credit for having aged pretty well as far as 90s electronic music goes - though, the amount that try to sound like Freedom by George Michael is too many. Supposedly this album is largely inspired by and tied with LSD/MDMA culture, so I’m assuming I just have to be on drugs to get it, but it’s unfortunately a Wednesday, and I’m behind on my reviews, so a 2 this gets.

ok. not rlly my style i guess, surprised that come together has 1.1m virews tho. 2

While I respect the album for trying to encompass a wide variety of sounds, I feel like it's lacking a central idea, outside of getting high. I feel like it would have been better served leaning into either the electronic or poppy sound, instead of trying to do both half heartedly in my opinion. Top tracks: Higher Than the Sun, Damaged

Kind of creepy and strange, especially the instrumentals. Almost like alien dance club music. I didn't really like it much.

Not primal nor was there any screaming. Pass.

This seemed groundbreaking at the time (to me, anyway), but only Moving On Up. And Loaded stand out here; the rest seems kind of dull to today's ears.

Not my vibe. Also the sound quality was really bad.

Up and down, but more down

Indie rock meets acid house. Not impressed.

Það eru element í þessu sem ég fíla. Rödd sem rétt svona næstum hangir í tóninum 99% af tímanum er ekki eitt af þeim elementum.

A tedious listen.

Never heard of this band before, and this is not for me. It's not bad, it's a weird one foot in indie rock and the other in electronica dance music. I just don't think this works.

Little too far out.

XTRMNTR was their only good album

An okay pop album. Nothing was bad, but nothing was truly great either. Surprised I knew a song on it. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Super neutral feeling towards this

2.5 tähteä pyöristyy tänään alaspäin.

while the discography was wildly varied and gave me whiplash like twice, it was still fine to listen to

No thanks

It was a 1 but the few songs I liked were good enough to bring it up to a two

Has its place and the first song is a banger Shame you have to be off your face to enjoy the rest

tem uma ou duas musicas com um ritmo legal, mas no geral achei fraco

Like there are good songs but this album confuses me. Not consistent

Some tracks I liked, others not so much. 1st listen 2/5

The first track had me all in and then there was a long lull untill that same style came back Some really good tracks, but the overall album missed the mark for me 1st listen

While I like the incorporation of dance music in the percussion, the overall mix is a terrible distraction. Everything is at a level 10 all the time. Just a little bit of editing would be nice here too. So many of these songs stick around two or three minutes past their welcome. The gospel-ish chord changes and backing vocals have a super hokey Rolling Stones Can’t Always Get What You Want thing happening. Doing that for one song would have been ok for me, but they go back to it again and again throughout the album. And don’t get me started on the vocals…

Not a fan

First song initial reaction: seems heavily influenced by Rolling Stones. This is not a good thing. After the first song they got a bit more diverse, but it made me realize something. All musical eras have their tentpole superstar acts that stand out and almost transcend the time and genre. Then there are myriad bands that are just kind of along for the ride, making music that is pleasing enough to the ears of those who like the tentpole bands, but never do anything interesting or fundamentally different. For the early 90s Alt-rock scene, the his band is the latter.

Its not bad Just not my jam 2.5

This album went in quite a few different direction that I was not expecting. Didn't really enjoy much of what I listened to, but I admired the creativity

Some tracks on here that were alright, but mainly was bored by this record. Didn’t dig the mash up of blues rock and tame acid house.

Definitely more interesting than i expected this being, but it couldnt hold my attention all the way through

When the bass dropped in "Slip Inside This House," I felt that. I think I've actually heard "Loaded" before, it reminds me of "Sympathy for the Devil." I like the dialogue samples on "loaded," haha. Besides the gospel signing, this album reminds me quite a bit of Beck's production styles. A pleasure to listen to this albumn, but nothing overly memorable for me.

Now that's what I call 90s but not connecting with it. 5/10

🤷 Highlights: Movin' On Up, Damaged, I'm Coming Down

Overall boring music. I was very misled by not only the title of the album, but also the name of the artist.

A mish-mosh of several genres & sounds, yet I didn’t feel it was that engaging. Songs are repetitive and the album is a bit too long.

What is this? Some songs are borderline electronic, others made me think of U2 and The Rolling Stones… while others were just sleepy and use ill-fitting instruments like sax and pedal steel. Some of the songs in isolation have a groove, but as an album it’s disjointed. 2.3

It's got some hits i guess, i just can't imagine the kind of person who would derive pleasure from listening to this regularly

was expecting to like this, but I only liked the first song.

I have already forgotten what any of the songs sound like, and I will have forgotten that this album even exists by tomorrow.

Too happy? I mean I know this must be incredible when performed live but I just... didn't vibe with it at all.

Alright

Listening to the first two tracks i was looking forward to a good indie rock album. But the it devolved into this genre bending monstrosity. There are so many unusual sounds on this album it is honestly impressive. But it drags on for so long. I didn't like it, all the songs are headed nowhere.

Very retro. Ok selection of songs but don’t have any great nostalgia for them

This album... Hmmm. Well, it's an album. It's all over the place. The first song started out great. It reminded me of Gimme Shelter by the 'Stones. Great harmonies. Beautiful guitar leads. Off to a real good start. Then it turned into some acid, euro-dance rock.. It reminded me of Chris Sheppard from that 90s group Love Inc mixed with some Fatboy Slim. And then it had some songs reminiscent of Oasis. Basically, it had a lot of bullshit clouding some decent sounding rock and/or indie songs. This album definitely needs to trim the fat. After hearing the first song, I was looking forward to what followed but then was unfortunately disappointed and kept waiting for the album to be over. The odd OK song would come on but then would go back to the acid rock, dance shit that I didn't care for. You could probably take out the good songs on this album and make an EP out of it, and then have an albums worth of whatever you want to call what it's trying to be: dance rock? Euro-dance? Acid rock? Because there is definitely an identity crisis going on.

Nope. Dull. Perhaps I’m not in the right mood.

Best tracks "Loaded", "Moving on Up". The rest did not hooked my attention.

It sounded like some kid bought a cheap synths from Target and made some beats. Did not like this one….

Can't wrap my head around this band. First song is a good rock song straight from a rolling stones album and your thinking, ok nice! Then come these fucking trip hop/techno-isch songs that sucks a bag of dicks. Really can't understand what the deal is here, and for that reason; 2/5.

I couldn't really tell what this album was trying to be. Kinda meh for me

Apparently a rock band with rave influences. But really they do both, but they don't blend them. They're not very good at either. Not essential, but not 1 star bad.

I don't know. It's a tedious wait for its peak but it doesnt deliver. Some cool parts but not enough. Doesn't do it for me.

Enjoyed a couple of songs

Best Song: Movin' on Up. This song prepared me for an album full of plucky, go-get-'em uplifting tracks. Unfortunately, this song is unlike anything else on the album. Worst Song: Don't Fight It, Feel It. That gym class whistle isn't doing anyone any favours. Just an obnoxious sample to repeat ad nauseum. Overall: A bit of a boring mix that mostly sounds like B-sides from the Rolling Stones.

From the beginning of Movin' on Up, I got almost a kind of Rolling Stones vibe (especially Mick Jagger from their lead singer). Third song and definitely not a fan of the techno, 80s/90s dance type style of music we've got going on here. Piano is p sick though. Wtf is inner flight, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be in a Disney movie. I do like the song with Terry Farley, good vibes all around. I think they should have recorded more songs with lyrics and music instead of just techno. Halfway through Damaged and I am already liking the B-Side. This album has been a rollercoaster. Beautiful vocals and guitar rips. Enter confusion.

Generic. Repetitive. Boring. Long.

Mielenkiintoinen! Koko ajan lajissaan hyvää, mutta toisaalta: mikä on tämän laji. Housea (vai dubia?), popia ja poprockia löytyy, jazziakin. Damaged on hyvä biisi. Sillisalaatti kyllä lopulta ja etenkin loppua kohden puudutti. Kansi on vaikuttava, ikoninen.

It’s fine, but nothing I particularly enjoy, or anything I’d seek out. It feels pretty laid back, which I didn’t see coming based on the name.

nothing on this album is as good as Movin' On Up, one of those things where you'd get an album based off one track and the rest of it was nowhere near as good.

I never got this one like some of their others, frankly.

Never heard of them in my life, and as the album went on I think I get why this didn't make it across the pond. This was a total mixed bag for me. Opposite experience to yesterday, I liked it less and less the longer it went on. I think it's supposed to mirror the journey of a night out on drugs. We get one pregame rock track, then a bunch of house stuff as you ride the high, and then you come down on low key ambient rock and dub tracks. I wish it worked for me but in general I feel like I saw the seams more than I felt like I experienced a cohesive idea and it felt more self-indulgent than adding substance. First track was nice. Kind of a Joe Cocker vibe, love a rock tune with a gospel choir. Interesting mix of influences overall - we've got house & psychedelia in the U2 inspired Slip Inside this House - band name makes sense. This certainly screams 90s - I could easily imagine any of the middle songs used as a needle drop in Zoolander or Bridget Jones' Diary. Third & fourth tracks specifically remind me of the odd, industrial/electric casio keyboard sound of the Goldeneye movie score. Overall feels dated to my ear, and as the record goes on I can't shake the feeling if I'd need to be high to get something out of it - as it is I got bored. Inner Flight kind of sucked, sounded like an unfinished demo. Would have liked to have heard the Beatles cover. Loaded sounds like someone just removed the vocal track from George Michael's Freedom '90 and added some old movie samples and a fuzzy guitar. Damaged didn't feel like much beyond a Stones rip off. Did not enjoy Shine Like Stars. I couldn't be bothered to listen to disc 2.

Psychedelic background music… although it’s got some stand out moments that makes it passable

Started interesting but quickly fell back into what I hate about Primal Scream. Too repetitive and not enough interesting going on to warrant it.

WAY too long and ultimately just boiled down to interesting background noise

This album didn't keep my attention. Before I knew it the album was over and I didn't really remember much of it because my brain just tuned it out for an hour.

A couple of the songs gave me Wham! vibes and those I liked. Otherwise I was bored and pictured someone making this in their basement.

This is an album that appears on this list. Of that I'm certain. Why? who knows. How? you got me. But it's here.

Nah, man

Not my cup of tea. I've never heard or seen this album referenced by anyone as an influence of some sort so it's surprising its even on this list.

very groovy and funky. not my usual genre but i did enjoy it. i think my favourite track was "Movin' on up" which is the opening track (track one) it was a great opener and really set the mood of the album.

Man I love this cover that sun guy just looks really friendly and really just draws you in like whatever is hiding behind this cover has to be seen just so you can enjoy such an amazing art piece

Raar album, begrijp op zich dat het toen cool was, maar doet me niet zoveel.

I liked "Loaded" - it feels like I've heard this sampled in a bunch of other mixes and albums. I still don't feel like any of this makes it to my playlist, so 2 stars.

This is all over the place. There were hints of sounds I enjoyed but overall it’s not for me.

It was odd. At points a jam band and others more techno. I felt incongruous.

It's pretty bad but it's not unlistenably bad.

Honestly not that great. It starts out pretty poor IMO, with some songs I hope to never hear again. The back half is a little more listenable for me, but I still did not find this enjoyable to listen to.

Never quite understood the appeal of Primal Scream. It is all just so average. 2.5/5

This isn’t anything I really need to listen to ever again. Not my genre.

Could’ve been good, but boring. Not as good as they come off.

Too repetitive, and the instrumental parts did not evolve in a meaningful way. I would be slightly intrigued by what they were introducing, but I didn’t feel like it developed, so I lost interest

Yawn....

Enjoyed first couple of songs. Then don't fight it, feel it happened. What an awful song. Higher than the sun was good. Inner flight was a bit boring, but made me think of a song that would play in a video game. Nice background music. Come together was catchy, but probably 5 minutes too long. Loaded was kind of funny? Definitely 5-6 minutes too long. Damaged came out of nowhere. Was unlike most other songs. Very early 90s. I'm coming down was 6 minutes that could have been 30 seconds with the same result. This last line sums up the last three songs. Overall, didn't hate it. Not for me though.

This is music for a very specific subset of white people. In another life I could have been that, but alas I am not in this one. So I thought it wasn’t the best. Due to the difference in all the songs it seems like all members had their own input/preferences, interesting they could collaborate in this way if that’s the case. Inner flight 0:50 - 2:00 sounds like it could be the theme music in a Final Fantasy 7-10 cave though so that was cool.

There's some fun jam bits in most of the tracks but it overstays its welcome without switching it up. Songs don't really go anywhere.

This album starts off with a bang with Movin' on Up, a very fun and upbeat track. The song is well put together, entertaining, and ends before it gets old. The same cannot be said for most of the rest of the album. The second track makes you think ok maybe they're actually going for a psychedelicy atmospheric sound and it's pretty ok. By the third track you are realizing there's no point in figuring out what they're going for because they're just making random stuff, some of which is garbage. I might hear that synth whistle in my nightmares for the next while. The hallmark of this album is that most songs are about 2-3 minutes of actually pretty good content stretched out into 6 or more minutes. I noticed that in the UK release of the album Come Together was actually 2.5 minutes LONGER, which is insanity. Loaded would be an actually fantastic track if they cut it in half. It spends a lot of time building the sound up with 4-8 bar repeats, adding a new instrument or piece of the sound each time. Ramping through the sound changes much more swiftly would drastically improve the pace of the track, either by changing every 2 bars, or else by adding two sounds instead of just one each cycle. It has a jam feel that is kind of appealing when listening to a snapshot, but is a bit much over 7 minutes. If you skip around in most of the tracks of this album, I find that I enjoy the music a lot. The problem is that much of the songs outlast their welcome so listening to the whole album is quite tedious. Not to mention track 3, which is by far the worst thing on this album and nearly justifies burning this album in a fire.

Favorites -Movin' on Up -Shine Like Stars

ok i will listen to it

It started out and I think this was gonna be a Rolling Stones inspired retro classic rock thing and then it got progressively more electronic and experimental. I definitely prefer the more sampled sound. The guys voice got annoying after a while. Favorite song was probably I’m Coming Down. Least favorites were Damaged and Come Together. Seems different from a lot of the early 90’s rock bands and was probably a new exciting sound and cooler back then but not sure if it holds up. Tough one to rate 2.5- 3? I liked it more than some of the other stuff I rated 2.

There are some ok moments but honestly what’s the point? This sounds like hotel lobby music

Not my favorite. Some of it sounds like George Michaels wanna be. House music was cool at times but just hard to listen as anything but background music.

Alku oli lupaava, mutta meno hiipui varsin nopeasti. Ihan OK ja kerran levy ympäri riitti tätä, kiitos.

Liian pitkä tuollaista ollakseen yli 2*

2/5. I don’t know honestly. It’s good but I’m not going to listen to it again. It just didn’t hit. Wish I had a better reason. Bopping head throughout but not anything that feels down my alley.

Not for me

Very confused. Wasn't sure what this was trying to be, but it's definitely not rock. At first I was thinking christian rock, then dance? then more christian vibes. Super weird. And definitely too long for what it is... By the last two songs, I was really tired of the whiney voice of the singer. Saved tracks: Slip Inside This House, Higher Than the Sun

Mostly boring.

Not bad, one good song. Bit repetitve.

It was fine. Nothing stood out to me & it’s quite unmemorable. 2 1/2 stars if I could.

WTF. I can't give this one star because I liked the first song but it's really close. Everything on this album was awful. Just a sprawling mess.

Thought there would be way more screaming. This album is VERY long and not my deal but Movin on up is a hit….

Fave tracks: Movin’ on up, higher than the sun, damaged, shine like stars fine background music 2/5

What a bunch of nothing. How can you have a 60 minute long album without a single cool or interesting idea? All the songs sound like loading screen music and, most definitely, do not include any primal screams. Seriously, this shit is softer than a baby's kneecaps. I like the album cover though. It's such a silly little guy.

It had been a while since we had any songs from the soundtrack to GTA: San Andreas, so it was a pleasure to listen to 'Movin' On Up' for the first time in a while. What a great track. If only the rest of the record was like this. But it is not. The few times I have revisited this very 90's effort from Primal Scream I always end up feeling that it is very much a chore to get through this acid house inspired marathon record. I realize that it's only an hour long, but it feels like an eternity. Besides straight up boring stuff like 'Inner Flight', a lot of the tracks simply cannot keep me interested for their entire runtime (looking at you 'Come Together'). The number one drug anthem 'Loaded' just might be the exception to this, and there are other nice parts like 'Higher than the Sun', but in totality this is a record that just doesn't work for me.

Arguably one of the most 90’s-sounding records ever. I’ve tried to get through Screamadelica earlier but never made it in one sitting. I’ve always opted out at some point. Now is the chance for Primal Scream to live up to the hype. First of all - this actually contains more elements that I was genuinely interesting in and wanted more of. “Movin’ On Up”, “Higher Than the Sun” (the The Orb mix, that is) and Loaded are all great. And there are ideas of pure genius spread across most tracks from the kaleidoscopic track list. The unfortunate part? The band rarely manages to catch their own ideas as they come flying towards them. Releasing an album as a remix album from the get go? Interesting. Does it work? No. A great deal of songs greatly surpassing the 6 minute mark? Not when it includes the ridiculous “Come Together”. But at least I’m able to dance and throw a party to this 62 minute acid dance album, right? Once again the answer will disappoint you.

Era defining, ground breaking, manufactured indi pop which now sounds like a couple of good songs and a load of filler. Diminished greatly in retrospect.

This album came out the same year I was born! I like to think I've aged better.

movin on up - 5 slip inside this house - 4 don’t fight it feel it - 4 higher than the sun - 4 inner flight - 5 come together - 3 loaded - 4 damaged - 5 i’m coming down - 3 shine like stars - 3

A lot of weird sounds used. The best songs were Movin On Up and Loaded

Started listening and then skipped through towards the end. Could not get into this. Reminds me of anything else that could've come out of England around that time and it's just not my jam.

It just wasn’t really my deal. Couldn’t connect with it

A somewhat long and drawn out album that really seemed like a mess of styles and rhythms. It was confusing listening to this album as it didn’t have any real structure or similar sounds. I thought some songs were ok but several others were not worth listening. 4.3/10

I don’t understand the unbridled love for this album. Interesting for 1991; I don’t feel it holds up. It definitely sounds like I’ve not dropped enough E to fully appreciate the atmospheric soundscapes.

I dont like "techno" or whatever style this is best described as. I was somewhat surprised this was from early 90s, I thought the genre was more a late 90s thing. So props for being one of the originators (of something I dislike).

Okay songs but did not enjoy any in particular

Not a big fan. Just very dated electronica with some singing. 5/10.

A couple of good songs but not a fan on the whole.

Second album from these guys -- and I think if someone made a mix of my favorite songs from their albums I would probably like it. But this album overall was tough to get through. So I'll give it 2 stars since there were some songs I enjoyed but also because I sighed when I came back to my computer and remembered I wasn't done with it yet

I got excited during tracks 1 and 2, and then was thoroughly bored for the next 50 minutes. It’s painful when s as seven minute song never goes anywhere, and much worse when they’re lined up one after another.

Every single track is too long. Not my jam. (previously listened)

I never thought I knew Primal Scream until I heard the song Movin' On Up, which I was familiar with. I am having a hard time figuring out what genre of music they should be catagorized in, because their music is such a mash up of different styles. Certainly the common denominator in all their songs is an electronic/pop/house music style which is heavy with sampling and beat loops. Their songs are also interlaced with rock/psychedelic/gospel/jazz/funk... and the list goes on. Some of this experimentation and mixing doesn't hit for me (space type beeps and bops/irritating synth notes etc.), however there are a few beautiful songs on this album. I found that a few songs went on in an infinite loop for too long and I lost focus. This is the kind of album that would be great playing in the background at a house party, or when you are high as a kite. Favourite songs: Movin' On Up, Come Together (instills feelings of hope and unity in me when I listen to it), Loaded, Damaged Least favourite songs: "Don't Fight It, Feel It", Inner Flight, Higher Than the Sun, Shine Like Stars Additional note: the version of the album I listened to on Spotify contained a few bonus tracks: Stone My Soul, Carry Me Home, and Screamadelica. These additional tracks were not bad, all of which had a slower, more intimate feel to them. 2/5

Who are these early nineties albums for? All the expression of a stale saltine.

Some fun songs, but not really for me.

T3B 1. Loaded 2. Slip Inside This House 3. Movin’ on Up

Very famous first song. Incredibly important album at the time but not so compelling to listen to now.

Really liked the first song then it progressively got weirder, just not my thing

ikkje for meg

Primal Scream is by far the worst thing I’ve had to subject myself to during this journey. That said, this wasn’t as awful as Vanishing Point, but it’s not much better. The first half of the album was better. I didn’t even mind some of the songs. But by the second half, they were wearing out their welcome and it dragged. Please tell me this is the last Primal Scream album I’ll have to listen to? I cannot understand what anyone sees in this music. The highlight of this album is the cute little sun/plankton blob thing on the cover art.

I’m not at a British rave 30 years ago. If I was, then maybe this would be exciting, new, or revolutionary. Maybe. Hard to put it into perspective that far from the muddy aftermath of some boozed out, soon to be meth head’s first rave.

A dose of whatever you enjoy probably makes the repetitive songs more enjoyable. Also used the same sample as Mudhoney for Loaded but made it a song. Of the moment at the time.

This album got instantly better when it went ended and Tricky came on instead.

J'ai souvent vu cette pochette. Je ne m'attendais pas à ce style en écoutant l'album. Ça sonne vraiment très dance 90's (voir Acid House ici). C'est pas mauvais, mais je commençais à trouver un peu long. J'ai probablement déjà entendu Movin' on Up. Content de l'avoir écouté, mais ce n'est pas un disque que je vais chercher à avoir.

2/5 not enough

Immediately recognized the opening notes of "Movin' On Up" - what a throwback. It's a good song, head-bopper, nothing amazing or revolutionary just...listenable. Which sort of applies to every song on the album. Probably why the name of the band/song didn't immediately make me remember anything because it all sort of blends into that very early 90s dance-rock sound ... I was feeling good about this album about halfway through and then realized...I could have started this album at any point and felt the same at any 3 or 4 minute segment. Just....fine. Is that just the definition of average? (also the 2nd half of laconic trippy repetition started putting me to sleep which made the downgrade to 2 easier) 5/10 2 stars.

Decent enough

Never understood the hype around this one, still don't.

There are a few nice ideas here and there, but overall it was boring. Screamadelica doesn't made me feel anything. Sorry. :(

This is neither primal nor a scream. It's also not very interesting. Best track: Movin' on Up

No me gusta mucho

This early 90s acid house / rave party sound has really outlived its welcome. Really uninspired, boring and most notably a very dated sound. If I never hear another record sounding like this before I die I would be a very happy man.

The roots of what made "the sound" of the nineties are all here. Credit where due, Primal Scream did it earlier than almost everyone else. But almost everyone else did it better than Primal Scream. "Screamadelica" never really finds its feet. Most of the tracks are 2-3 minutes longer than they need to be and the album bounces around between rock and pop with an odd ballad and electronic dance track thrown in here and there. None of it really works. Every track feels like the band got about 80% of the way there and then they just gave up and called it good enough. But it's not really good enough, is it? It's just... disappointing.

Not really my type. They put a good sound together, and the production and general quality that they bring to the feel of the music is good, but just not for me.

Definitely the favorite album of a white college student with dreds and black light posters in his dorm in the '90s.

Hi- Movin' On Up, Damaged Movin' On Up reminds me of Kula Shaker or some kind of bluesy, indie-rock jam, I was pretty into it. But then things take a 180 and the rest of the album is some kind of acid-house, ambient-electronic world music akin to Passion Pit...but then I am reminded this is 1991, and these kinds of sounds were just emerging. Depending on how you look at it, it's all very chill if not a bit drawn out, and maybe because of this I didn't feel like any of tracks stood out. Damaged returns to its bluesy folk rock, and is quite nice, but then we're back to frankly boring electronic for the rest of the album.

What a let-down. The first track is quite a catchy song. Then it just goes on with that repititious music that is only bearable if you're taking pills, grinding your teeth, and drinking a truckload of water. I can understand people jumping up and down to this crap, but would you buy the album?

I don't get the appeal of this album. Low rent Rolling Stones knockoff mixed with cheesy, dated early 90s house music. It probably sounded cutting edge at the time, but it hasn't aged well at all.

Less than 12 hours ago I listened this. I listened with all my heart and my full attention. I have forgotten it entirely. I like the cover though.

-This is some cool feel-good dance-y psychedelia -I don't necessarily love the feel-good type of psychedelic music, but it is good for a certain mood. -These songs feel like they're made for raves rather than listening in your home, which makes it a little harder to get into at my home office.

Alright. Probably would have enjoyed it more if some of the songs were a bit shorter.

First song was good. The rest was not for me

I get why people like this but I don't really think it's my thing. It's fine though.

Gekonnt lab grown music: Mischung aus spaßigen Songs und gähnender Leere.

Some gems on there but as an album wasn’t my favourite

Some good songs but overall not an enjoyable album

Generally quite an annoying listen

This had a few good songs but the electronic aspects bored me.

The production is really great, bit outside of that and two songs this really did not do anything for me. Decent. 2.5/5

I listened to this album a few times and it's just not taking at all. It's not bad, it's just not clicking. One thought that kept hitting me is that the album is all over the place...I couldn't get a sense of what this album was supposed to be. Definitely didn't need to hear this before I die. Moving on.

Pretty meh. Highlights: Loaded, moving on up

Electrónica. Dance. Aburrido. Monótono. Mala evolución la de este grupo...

Interesting for sure. The 90s vibe is good, but the lead singer sounds like Justin Roiland though so

Just not the sound for me and the long runtime really doesn’t help.

Not my cup of tea.

Primal Scream's third album drew inspiration from the new house music scene of the 90's, so instead of indie rock in this album it's mostly alternative rock/dance with a dash of psychedelic rock. Some of the band's earlier work was remixed to have a more "dancey" vibe in this album. The change was warmly welcomed by fans and critics, making this album popular and eventually selling 3 million copies worldwide. I liked the experimental sound of house music and psychedelic rock coming together in this album, and wish there was more music like this to be discovered. What a beautiful album from the glorious 90's!

🤷‍♂️😕 Meh

I didn't hate the album but I wanted it to be over before it was over. The music is kind of like house music but not full on EDM.

Not for me but I get it

This combines some funk and the Rolling Stones...and the bad parts of each. Pass.

Disappointed when I saw the album cover, but I gave it a chance. After listening it's clear that it's just more crap undeserving of this list. Clearly chosen because of the British bias of the list-makers. First track was fine. The rest was annoying garbage.

Second Listen. Gave it 1/5 first time. The one song I liked was "Damaged". A couple of the songs are really annoying (Don't Fight It, Feel It), but there are a couple of good songs: Damaged. Loaded. Movin' On Up. Shine Like Stars. I definitely enjoyed it more this time, but still just 2/5 2/5

This has some nice moments that sort of waft in and out throughout the album but mostly it just sounds dated in an awkward way to me. If you give it enough time I'm sure it'll come back into vogue aesthetically at some point. One thing that will always hold it back though, like any good CD era album, is that it drags on a few songs too long.

Oof, this is 90s as hell... in a bad way. So sugar-coated, so summer. I can't listen anymore. It's competent in what it is doing, but that's my problem with it. 1.5 to 2.

boring, slow, long, no point in it

No, this did not work for me at all. Thanks to Andrew Weatherall's input it has some good moments, but that does not make up for the rest. Particularly disliked the rather whining vocals which ruined many of the songs.

*blowingraspberries 2.2

Not my favorite

I’ve tried to get into this album many times before. Some real nice tracks in there but it just doesn’t punch into me in the way so many claim it should. Let this be the last time I ever attempt to like Primal Scream. Heard it here first world.

A rock band tries to make an EDM album. It’s not completely unlistenable.

Every single track is too long. Not my jam.

This was very polarizing for me. I really liked a couple of tracks and really didn't like the rest.

2.5 stars

better than I expected but still pretty meh. its pop/instumentals as opposed to like metal 2.5

It doesn't sound bad and is totally fine for background music. But I find it absolutely uninteresting. Just goes in one ear, comes out the other, nothing remains of it in my mind.

opener is instantly recognizable I can hear the drugs clearer than the future influence to daft punk and others 2 - not for me but doesn't hurt my ears. 3 - decent, could stick on again 2 today but could be a 3 tomorrow

I don't think I've listened too or thought that much about these guys since the 1990s. They did put together a pretty nice formula, with bits of house, trance, but also funk and psychedelic sounds, very catchy stuff over all. Somehow I also think of Jesus Jones when listening to them - the edge between rock/pop and electronic music seems a bit blurred with both of them. Overall, it's fun to revisit this and it could be an interesting surprise to have a track come on at a party or something, but not really something I want to listen to a whole album of, and not something I'd consider really essential listening.

Pretty eh. The first song brought me in, but from there each song becomes less distinct, and less enjoyable.

Find ich keinen Zugang. Und für LSD hab ich keine Zeit…

Шотландский рок. В подростковое время зашел бы лучше, сейчас уже вкус более изысканный (да-да, я парижский мусье, шуток решительно зеро)

Me recordó a George Michael de los 90, pero es un disco que tiene canciones alegres o lentas. Olvidable.

Not a huge fan of this house music style, pretty repetitive. Definitely not what I was expecting at all. Do like the cover, however

4. First song was pretty good, but really nothing to write home about after that, and it was quite long.

Un po' troppo elettrico...

meh im not really into house. dear god this is aggressively 90s. Come Together aggressively wears out its welcome after about minute 5. Damaged has the worst vocalist ever. guy isnt even close to in tune. These songs are forever long, especially if there isnt something that grabs you. totally over self indulgent in its sound. jesus thank god thats over

Only listened to a couple songs... Its fine

In fairness to the album, not all of the songs were available for streaming. Despite that, I wasn’t a huge fan of the material. Some decent music but overall not my cup of tea.
