Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Although I like the sound, I cannot hear the breakthrough in the overall performance. 2.5/5.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but can't see me going back to it

Not that great.

Very energetic with some really interesting chords that push the expectations of raw punk rock but unfortunately the vocals didn't really do much for me. I know Fugazi is an influential band and I haven't listened to them much and re-listening now I'm coming to the conclusion that it's the vocals that always pushed me away. It's a 2/5 for me.

Not my music

I'm not a huge fan of the vocals, which kind of ruin the project for me. I do like the instrumentals.

2.75/5 for me. I think I'm too old for these albums now.

Seems like only half of these songs are completed works..

Rather uninspiring, boring and also bit too messy and aggressive music for my liking

Repeater is the debut album by the American post-hardcore band Fugazi. It is considered the definitive album from Fugazi. It didn't perform well commercially at release, but after many months of the band touring the album sales began to increase. This was an influential album to many alternative rock bands that would appear later in the 90's. I liked this album just a little, but would recommend it to fans of alternative rock.

Punk hardcore “alternative rock”, neither metal nor grunge. Bass and drums work well together, but I don’t really like the noise.

I understand Fugazi to be really influential for what would become grunge, but it and most of its descendants aren't really my kind of thing

Not for me, honestly thought it was pretty boring which is quite something for a punk album.

mad af

Not a big fan of the voice. Reminds me of anti flag

I think this music may be technically interesting in the sense that it is unusual or difficult to play. It also seems to have elements that are similar to The Bronx and The Clash, which are bands I like, and also The Offspring. It's certainly got energy. However, I just don't like it. Other than the singer being awful I can't really explain what it is that repels me. For whatever reason I'm just not feeling this today. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Repeater Date listened: 20/12/22

To be honest not my favorite. Sometimes even abrasive and difficult, but sometimes the individual instrumental work is really impressive. But the the song explodes into a hardcore mess and it’s not good anymore. 4/10

4/10. Yeah, didn't really care for this.

OK, Punk. Pas mon style, que veux-tu…

Not my era and not my style so lower points in general. However, in my opinion there weren't many stand out tracks in general here.

I didn't enjoy this, but I did appreciate that it predated a lot of similar-sounding ‘90s alternative. But give me a good Strauss waltz over this any day.

After the double hit of my second shingles shot and flu shot yesterday, I really needed a warm fuzzy blanket of sound to cuddle up with. This was NOT that for me. I was able to make out the quality of "its complex interplay of guitar and rhythm section" for which it is noted according to the Wikipedia article. I can appreciate the effort here, but it didn't make me feel any better...

Not my type of music

It’s funny how a slight change in the ratio of ingredients can throw off a recipe for one person or perfect it for another. To me this has so much good stuff, really the whole instrumental core of grunge. If you stirred in some melody and some lyrical subtlety it would be all good. And then add a dash of rage for spice and it’s perfect. Instead we got no melody, all rage. I’ve always found that kind of punk/hardcore vocals a little dull but also whiny—impotent really. The lyrics here are not too bad but when coupled with that vocal style, they just make my goodwill and patience evaporate. At the first sign of pretension, I’m out. I’m sure there are lots of people who love this record because it’s giving them a double helping of what they like best. But to me it’s just unbalanced. I was absolutely the perfect age for this record when it came out, but I had no interest in it then; and I think honestly if I had sat down and listened to the whole record as a teenager I’d have had the same reaction as today.

Un autre album de rock des années 90.

Idk about this one. Doesn’t feel like I HAD to hear this.

I know of Fugazi, but never heard their music before this. My life would be unchanged if that remained true today.

I was not impressed with any part of this album. The vocals were weak, the lyrics basic, and the mixing of the voice/music in many of the songs made it sound amateurish

Nah, not for me. I'm a fan of post-hardcode but the more modern take on the genre. I can appreciate what was needed to get where we are but I don't need to listen to this again.

More grungy sounding than I prefer. It was okay to listen to in the background but I certainly won't be coming back to any of this album.

Not enough to enjoy

This album did a lot of things I liked but still sucked

Don’t like the styel

Of all the angry punk rock albums I've had to listen to on this site so far, this was the most tolerable by far. I will never be a fan of this style of raw and screechy vocals, but they weren't quite as grating as with many other similar sounding vocalists. There was also a lot more going on instrumentally than what I've heard from similar bands. I will still likely never come back to this album, because its just not a genre that I resonate with, but at least it wasn't a painful experience like what I've had with other punk bands from this era. Standout tracks: "Repeater", "Blueprint", "Sieve-Fisted Find" and "Two Beats Off"

Ill be honest I really did not like this album I dont have many positives to say The bass player did really well? I wasnt a fan of like anything else 2/10

Rough, discordant and assertively ugly. This can feel like musical nihilism, but then certain riffs seem to have a point (or want to reach one) – see “Brendan #1” and “Shut the Door.” One doesn’t mind the shadowy elements or overall toughness – see “Blueprint” and the guitar work on “Reprovisional,” though the latter is ruined by the vocals. In fact, across the record, the singing … well, it isn’t really singing, is it? “Song #1” sounds like a bad (and much older) Beastie Boys cover band. As with some abstract expressionism, one feels the artist is deliberately trying to offend (or at least startle). In that sense, it’s job done, but at the cost of ensuring one will not be inclined to seek this out ever again. Fans will feel themselves special for withstanding the assault. The band is basically choosing its fans by asking “who can stand to listen to this?” One feels the record deserves a severe rounding down as it might have been vastly more interesting (and not just prettier or more pleasant).

I tried on this one but it really wasn't hitting me until I got to Shut The Door, you know, the last song on the album...that one I really liked and added to a playlist earning it the 2 stars for me.

Auch so ein Album, das leider keiner braucht. Spielen gut zusammen, leider täuscht das kaum über das generische, klischierte Rock-Songwriting hinweg.

From what I've read Fugazi seem like an interesting and influential band so I'm not writing them off, but nothing on this album struck me as essential listening. I liked plenty of bits of it but there wasn't a track I really loved. 2.5 stars.

Not for me

This isn’t my cup of tea, but it was ok

The grunge album I never knew existed. Turns out, for a good reason. It's a bit of a shouty-shouty album and, more importantly, through that "all songs sound the same" factor, I found it rather boring.

punk raging 2.5

Not my thing

It's OK. I'm not sure that I needed to listen to this before I die. Maybe the point is that I need to expose myself to new music each day.

Disappointed with this one - a lack of variation in both the guitar tone and melodic lines means everything just blurs into one big hardcore mess that's ultimately forgettable.

2022-01-12 p628 1990 So-so garage/indie/heavy rock, nothing special 2 stars

This is too much for me - it's like a wale-y guitar and screaming, and are they speaking english? I'm not sure.

'Okay...okay...not bad...oh, he's singing annnnd it's punk. I'm out.'

Ekki minn tebolli

No thanks.

Ok for what it is.

It was okay. Can see the appeal but not my cup of tea

Not really a fan of rock

I didn't enjoy this album. Musically it's pretty good though not at all what I enjoy, however, the awful po-faced singing ruined it. I can't see this album's appeal. For the same period I'd rather be listening to Sonic Youth.

it started off somewhat strong as soon as the second song came on i sighed because it wasn’t good

Not for me thanks. The odd melodic moment and occasional hints of funk in the bass but generally too angsty shouty for my taste

It was alright, not what I’d usually choose. A bit shouty in parts. 2-3* ?

I thought this album was repetative as fuck, and pretty boring ngl

Not my cup of tea

yay. Punk.

Not for me, or maybe I'm just not angry enough.

Not a fan

Couldn't finish this one...

Jut isn't my thing. So many friends love them but I didn't hear anything that called out to me.

I don’t have much to say other than I don’t enjoy this album very much. The singing voices are tough to swallow, and I don’t find the music all that intriguing. There is a guitar riff about 45 seconds into Two Beats Off that is decent. I do enjoy how Joe #1 starts out musically. Why is Song #1 the 12th track? Why not first? Or why not name it Song #12? And while we’re on the number thing, why are Joe and Brendan #1s? Is their a second Joe or Brendan? I don’t see one. What’s the deal with that?

Only 1 good song

This album wasn't really my thing. I liked the instrumentals behind some of the songs, but that was it. But I certainly have heard worse out of the albums I've been generated. 2/5 stars.

Hmmm. I think I like the idea of Fugazi more than the actual Fugazi.

Not a fan,

It was ok.

Couple of ok songs but on the whole very shouty with little substance.

I really want to like Fugazi, but I think I like the idea of them more than the actual band. Always one great song, but an album is a lot. It's too abrasive and discordant for me, but sometimes, when it gels...

Not for me. Bit too shouty

Got through it. Won't be returning.

made it over half way through and then needed something i could work to

I like the music. The vocals turn me off. Blueprint is good.

I like Fugazi but this album just sounded like noise

Can’t get into it. If me from another time had heard this I bet this would stand out as a great album, as it is I just can’t relate cos I’m too old.

Not good, bad, yucky

Poor man’s gob

I'm not entirely sure that Fugazi is my thing. It's still early though.

Ugh I didn’t even really get through this album but that one popular song is good lol

dont remember anything about it and certainly nothing positive

Toilet sounds.

No thanks.

Not really my thing. I like the guitar but it just isn’t a bit of me. Fav song is ‘Break-In’.

Unlistenable.

just noise. todo suena igual. tal vez no le presté tanta atención pero cuando le presté no me gustó

interesting

not really my jam

Again, not for me. A lot of jumbled and confused noise with little melody or listening pleasure.

Not my thing I'd say. It didn't evoke any emotions at all

Not good.

This is the -gazi we should have excoriated Hilary about.

Well - I made it through.

I had to stop. nothing on them just not my actual cup of tea. double it pass it to next person

Didn’t make it all the way through. Was a little too „raaa we‘re men and we‘re angryyyyy“

1.5 i didn't really like it

Yeah so that was kind of awful. Post-hardcore is such a good genre and I just don't think this is what I want from the genre and I really don't know why. The vocals aren't good first of all. Everything else is fine, but I guess it can't save the album

Fkin ew

Couldnt tell one song from another

A bit noisy and nothingy for me

Ein Sänger, der nicht singt, sondern schreit! Kreischende Gitarren! Nö, will ich nicht durchhören!

Absolutely not.

No es mi tipo de rock.

Not for me, thanks.

Apparently they thing feedback is a valuable musical tool.

Turgid.

This album was recorded during 1989 in Arlington, Virginia at Inner Ear Studios. Incidentally, that is the very body part that may need medical attention after listening to this album.

This sounds derivative to me. Maybe it came before all the other post-punk bands with faux angry frontmen, wanting to sound dangerous. But original or not, this is not a sound I need to or want to hear. A 1.

hard no.

Є так середні пісні,але адьбом взагалі не мфй і міузиуа не моя

Nicht so Meins

Vocals are bad in a bad way, couldn't listen to more than four songs

A chore to listen to. Awful.

Album was ok. I never heard of this group

Not my cup of tea. Quite painful to get through.

Ni me acuerdo

Really unsure of this. I likely would not have enjoyed it much when it was released either: it's kinda-punk, but with none of the inventiveness, spontaneity, nor energy. Perhaps more time needs to pass before the artistic merits of this album and why it might be in a 1001 best list might become further apparent…

I understand that people like this. I also understand that I don't.

I tell you what, I won’t be repeating shit from this album.

not for me

The song Greed sums up this album, fuzzy guitars, devilish vocals and repetitive lyrics…greed, greed, greed. The one song I endured was Brenda #1 due to it having no vocals. This isn’t pleasant music.

Huutamista, punkkia. Ei mitään erikoista kuitenkaan

Eh it was okay. I wouldn't rush back to it. 3.1/10

Uggh. Hate is a strong word, but this does nothing for me.

- hat mich leider nicht wirklich abgeholt

Not for me! Did not like!!

Indistinguishable from scores (hundreds?) of other post punk albums.

1,5 von 5

Who chooses these albums?

Gonna sound like an old man but this is just awful noise, and not the good kind of awful noise.

I thought I would like it :/ but couldn't finish it

Not my jam

Don't get punk, shouting over reasonable good music is not my thing. Very poor recording.

I’ve heard of Fugazi but I wish I never heard Fugazi. 2/10

Interesting start of the album though it turned into drunk pub karaoke rock pretty fast. Apparently post-hardcore.

1 star

...not very pleasant listening, to my ears. Not melodic. Grung-y, but nothing like Nirvana which has much more feeling in their song. Shrieking "chalkboard" guitar at times. ...please just be done soon, so I can listen to something else! 1,5/5

Really not my taste

I hope that I can enjoy noise. But to enjoy noise the players should be also to play their instruments to make music. This was not that. I appreciate noise from the likes of Tin Machine, and this was crap.

Really didn't enjoy this, doubt I'll go back to it

never got the fugazi hype , much better punk out there from the same time era

Typical

1. turnover - 0 2. repeater - 0 3. brendan - 1 4. merchandize - 1 5. blueprint - 1 6. find - 1 7. greed - 1 8. beatz - 0 9. ztyrofoam - 0 10. reprovizional - 0 11. door - 1 12. zong - 1 13 joe - 0 14. break - 1

This album might be called Repeater but all I'm repeating in my head is "Why? Why did I put myself through this?". Fugazi have plenty to say, but do they have to yell everything? Idk, this kind of music is never going to amaze me but I did try to find some value in what I was subjected to. Here's what I came up with. 1. Cool band name 2. Cool drumming 3. I don't have to listen to this again, phew Overall, it sounded to me like if you threw Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Supergroove and maybe Sonic Youth in a blender and the net result is a noisy brown mush. 2.8/10

I appreciated the instrumentals but the voice and structure of the songs were rough for me.

Not real.

not for me

Det här tilltalande inte mig för 5 öre.

This isn't post punk. Its metacarp! More crap than crap could possibly be.

Shit attempt at punk

Did not finish. Instrumentation is fine but the vocals are not doing it for me at all. Not one I’d be eager to listen to again. 1/5

Not my cup of tea

aiuto raga, non sono neanche riuscita a finirlo

Pure crap.

Good guitarist.

Did not like it at all

Irving and repetitively. I can’t imagine any scenario where I would enjoy listening to this

Post punk rock

Nope! Don't like that!

Meine Mutter hätte gesagt: organisierter Lärm. In diesem Fall hätte ich ihr recht gegeben.

It didn’t sound good to my ears, lots of yelling 2.5/10

I wish I could get into these heavy albums but I can’t even get through the whole album. Rating is based on personal taste, nothing to with their talent.

How did this make the list? I am not a fan. I am sure someone out there likes this band, but not me.

Lärmend

Couldn't wait for it to be over.

Not my jam i just skipped this one

Eh, 90s thrasher

Screamy, angry punk rock that connects with me on zero levels.

Fucking awful guitars. Hated it so much I put every track to the last seconds.

This was described by YouTube as post hard-core what the hell that means god only knows. To me this is PUNK, it appears to be a disillusioned youth attempting to make a political statement whilst displaying a lack of musical/vocal talent or ability. That is not to say they don't possess this ability, merely that they are trying to display this lack. In fact there is quite a bit of talent if you look past the general feel of the finished product. Having said that, not my cup of tea. 1

1.5/5-every time I wanted to say it’s just bad there’s a little something keeping it from being that bad. I wouldn’t come back.

Hated this from the first moment. Couldn’t finish.

Made it through one song

Good album title because that's exactly what this album is: repetitive. The songs are so indistinguishable it's baffling.

Not for me.

Leider halt gar nicht meine Musik. Entweder müsste es weitaus melodischer sein, oder so richtig ballern. So liegts nur irgendwo dazwischen.

this is not my kind of music

samo ne

unlistenable

Did not enjoy this.

Haven't heard it before, unlikely to hear it again.

Too much yelling 1/5

The artistry of this album must be lost on me, because all I heard was noise and yelling. No thanks.

Je n’aime pas le punk

04/07/2022 More angry punk/rock. Difficult to complete the full listen.

This one was noisy and monotonous for me, though I admit that I didn't try very hard to listen to it- just worked on something else with it in the background. Not really my thing, though a couple at the end, possibly the one titled Song 1, weren't as bad.

not for me, but some cool guitar riffs around

I typically can get into this type of music, but this was pretty painful. A lot of yelling and no real tracks that stood out to me. I kind of just wanted it to be over.

Not my cup of tea at all - inherent lyrics and punk(ish) vibe aren't for me. I hesitate to call it bad only because it's clear that it's well done for what they're trying to do. My top pick is 'Blueprint', I didn't mind the bassline.

I loved the opening notes of this album - I was thinking I was going to really enjoy this.... and then the vocals started. Sigh. Getting tired of vocals ruining so many records on this list. I feel like I've written this so many times but for me vocals will almost never ever make an album but they sure as shit can wreck one. Could use a solid week of instrumental albums after this and Methuselah Leonard Cohen. No constructive review here - I am not really fond of listening to most things in the punk realm, so I couldn't say this is horrid trash (e.g. Velvet Underground, Le Tigre, FatBoy Slim - I question life itself when hearing those) and if punk is your thing, this is probably gonna be highly-rated. ... I suppose if anything positive here...the music is actually pretty good? Kinda? Maybe? Yay? no it's ok to admit it: I hate this. 3/10 1 star

American, 90s, Rock + = - Great potential has been lost {0/14} [1/5]

OK. I hated it. Senseless, chaotic, angry, distracting, dissonant noise.

There's a reason Nirvana's "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam's "Ten" became breakthrough albums and crossed into the mainstream and this one just sputtered on the launching pad. Pass. Hard pass. Just doesn't do it for me. I tried, but this was some rough sledding. It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all to have this bumped off the list in favor of Pearl Jam's "Vs." or even "Vitalogy".

Not my style.

Wasn't a fan of 1 second of this.

Meh.... Hardcore drummer bits. Not unique enough to be desired

too grunge

I gave up, too much shouting

- rock rock rock

A little to intense for me.

Just relentless noise.

Worse one yet, garbage

Nah, not for me.

Rubbish

I listend to several short parts of all tracks. Some intro's I liked but in overal this is not my music.
