This is good. But I feel like I'd rather be watching them live than not quite feeling the aggression and bite while lounging about in my living room. Still sounded like they were singing about Ribena. Makes me thirsty.
Sounds very timeless. I really didn't mind listening to it - however my spotify went on to 13 Songs which was so much better. Much more dynamic and aggressive. This is on the mild side, couldn't recall many/any songs from it after listening twice. Okay all right - Turnover was all right. Can't say I ever heard this down the B&Q when I was younger.

Fugazi has always been a bit of a blind spot for me despite seeming like a band I should like a lot. I know a little bit of their stuff, but have never heard this. I thought it was pretty good overall, kind of catchy, kind of punky, but nothing earth shattering. My favorite tracks were "Turnover" and "Blueprint". 3.5 stars.
All the flavours of post-hardcore. Plain.
You can really hear the influence, tho I can’t get over the vocal or the production enough to actively enjoy this.
OK
I appreciate what this is and enjoy it somewhat. I think this would be a lot better with better singing.
Album 772 of 1089 Fugazi - Repeater (1990) Rating : 3.5 / 5 Nice album. Tight musicianship. Great songs whose lyrics could probably use a closer look. Some good tracks here. A keeper, for sure.
Good album with a sound that feels like a mix of rock, punk, grunge.
This was an interesting one- not really my style but I can see how it was influential. It had the hardcore sound of the early 2000s over a decade earlier. Some songs were decent- I didnt love the singing but I did enjoy the instrumentation. Overall- 2.5/5
Pretty glorious at its heights, especially enjoyed repeater and greed.
Ok, catchy light punk
Did I enjoy this album: yes Will I seek this album out in the future: no Reminds me of a lot of punk I listened to growing up, so much so that I was surprised I didn't recognize the name.
It's ok. I just need to digest more the songs. It's always interesting to hear what was rock music like in the 90s pre-grunge. Still, I don't really like this kind of punk vocals. Unfortunately, I've heard too much of it from this list.
Fugazi is a weird one. It's a band I should like but doesn't really do much for me. I liked listening to this but if I never heard it again it would be fine too. But on paper it should be one of my favorites. But it's just not
I had a friend in college who was a huge fan of Fugazi, and while I liked the band's name I realize now that I never listened to them, and had just assumed that they were along the spectrum of Mudhoney, pre-Nevermind Nirvana and other bands like that. I'm a bit relieved to find out that latter impression was at least somewhat accurate (relieved mainly because I no longer have to worry that I might have missed out on a unique sounds all these years). But I'm glad I finally got a taste of the DC band, and I'm impressed how they clearly had more talented musicians than some of their fellow semi-hardcore/not-exactly-grunge ilk. The opening track "Turnover" is a great opener for the album, and I also enjoyed "Blueprint" and "Two beats back" (plus "Song #1" from the extras). Overall, they're not really ground-breaking, but the combination of tight music played almost punk style makes for an interesting style and sound, and the lyrics are (when I could actually hear them) reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine's political leanings. I hadn't appreciated until now that they were *way* more Pearl Jam than PJ ever was in terms of giving the middle finger to corporate music structures (record labels, Ticketmaster, even merchandising), and I really admire that they eschewed selling *anything* when they toured, they chose their own venues, and basically prohibited slam dancing, all in the name of trying to keep their ticket prices to $5 a head, which they largely did for over 15 years. I have a *lot* of respect for that, and I kind of wonder if that was part of the reason my college friend followed them so closely.
Too Red Hot’ish
Rock mit viel "Wums". Die Stimmen kurz vor Geschrei finde ich nicht so attraktiv, aber das Album hat definiziv viel Ernergie. 3/5
One of those bands at the start of the UK/USA schism in music so absolutely new to me. I like the sound, the energy and the attitude but it's slightly short on the songs.
There's parts here I appreciate and everything is more polished than I expected - in a good way. Lots of riffs and energy. Turnover is a solid rocker and I like Merchandise, although the shouty chorus doesn't totally do it for me. Still, nice guitar and bass parts and the low end really shines in the mix. Blueprint is my favorite thus far, mid-paced and melodic, but Sieve-Fisted Find and Two Beats Off outdo it with some really cool basslines. It's a mixed bag, the vocals often hold it back for me but there's some great riffs here. Enough that I'd play it again.
Nothing special
Meh didn't really like it.
This was fine. 3.1
Must admit, I didn't have time to give this the attention it deserved today. A lot flowed over me, so I'll need to give it a second spin. Sounds solid but of course it would.
Managed to make me miss house shows, which is really saying something because post-hardcore generally does not work for me these days. Ahead of its time and devoid of bullshit. Through no fault of the album, I still can't say that I'll revisit in full.
Not bad. Enjoyed a few tracks, but wasn’t blown away.
I've grown to love hardcore more and more over the years, though didn't appreciate (or even know about) it at the time. This album is solid. Mid 3s
Never really loved Fugazi, but this record was pretty good.
- Huge respect for Fugazi's ideals and their commitment to them. When I think of artists using their platform in effective ways, Fugazi is always in the front of the pack. - Like the underlying sound. Hard-hitting without being frenetic. But I do wish that their political stances were more clearly apparent in the songwriting. Yes, there are references, but I would not be shocked if it went completely over the heads of those who listened. - Like a lot of punk, many of the tracks start blending together.
Fun, but not really vibing with it.
Fun album 💿 Favorite track: Merchandise other picks: repeater, turnover, blueprint, two beats off
Ok, but not my sort of thing
aftur. 3,.5
Weird to listen to a record that 20 something me would have picked from a deep pile. Things lost, things gained. Mortality. Still a lot of this still gets me. Some, not so much. The part of me that doesn't love this anymore feels treacherous. Lots to think about.
Mjoah, ging so. Haben wir das auf dem BRT gehört? Kann mich nicht erinnern
Started out unsure with this one, but enjoyed it more and more as it went on. Solid album, overall!
Not my thing at all but much better than most of its peers & I do admire their ethos.
ok punk
This did not hit me as I had hoped. Post thrash seems to be punk-lite for me. The guitar and rhythm do indeed go together well, but I'm not a fan of the vocals.
Decent overall. Standout songs: Repeater Blueprint Styrofoam
Not really my bag.
While it navigates through some interesting styles, it kind of fell flat for me. I think 13 Songs is better than this.
This was never really my thing, and even when it kind of was - I was more in to pop punk, than punk rock. But I can appreciate this album, and what Fugazi did for the scene. I was actually happy to give this a listen, because it’s not an album I would have played on my own. It’s hardcore rock and screaming lyrics, but it’s dialed and tight - what many many bands after them were influenced to do, and just didn’t do as well.
Not really my thing but I can hear the appeal.
I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting.
Pretty good overall. Takes me back to my Helmet listening days, which oddly enough was 2 years later
Cool but not for me mate. 3 stars
I suck at rating but I'll say this was very *alright*. I was expecting something much heavier for some reason. But instead it kind of sounded like something I'd hear my more post-hardcore-y friend play when we're jamming together. TBF, it's probably BECAUSE of albums like this that it sounds so "generic" to me. It's like when people say they don't like Seinfeld because so many sitcoms have ripped off/been inspired by Seinfeld since then. I bet lots of albums and bands have ripped off/been inspired by this album.
fugatti. Joitakin esimerkkejä FAKE EMO:sta ovat amerikkalainen jalkapallo, My Chemical Romance ja Mineral EMO KUULUU HARDCORE EI INDIE, POP PUNKI, ALT ROCK TAI MIHIN MUUN MAINSTREAM-GENREIN two beats off
3+
not bad, reminds me of early punk
I did not like this nearly as much as I expected to
I really really dislike punk music, however this album did start to win me over by the end of it. I listened to Repeater & 3 songs, just for posterities sake. I do kind of find the lead singers pronunciation grating, just cause he has that kind of punk pronunciation. Anyways as far as punk albums go I don’t mind this, and I’ve gotta respect Fugazi for being a super important influence for the indie scene. The bass lines are also incredible.
Cool hardcore rock album. Has the perfect level of 90s angst.
Cool, but won’t be revisiting. Important but not aged super well.
Love me some fun thrashy punk. Would’ve loved to go to a show. It was hard to hear what they were saying but I felt the vibe.
Ive discovered a love of West coast american punk and this fits tight in there. Just the right amount of angry, verbose and musical. This one lacked some of the hooks and pace of Black Flag but still enjoyable.
6.5/10 pretty good, very listenable and melodic. Great rhythms and drummer. I still found it fairly forgettable, especially for an album from 1990. By that point the world had been blessed with plenty of better Punk albums. Some favs: reprovisional, shut the door, greed.
Quite intense isn't it! Luke a Fugazi fan so I went in with a PMA (positive mental attitude) and I'm just not sure. Definite themes and things I enjoyed but also quite intense at times and I felt on the outside of it. Not sure why. But I still feel open minded and went back for a second listen so that must mean something
3.5 I am not a huge Fugazi follower but always really enjoy them when I hear their songs. This is no exception. I had a compressed time to listen to this album, so I couldn't deeply sit with it; it could likely go up with further listens but rn it's a solid 3.5, trending towards 4. I love those chunky drums.
Here's to hoping every slip's not a slide! The sound is excellent—but the vocals didn't keep up. Best was Merchandise, which was giving a kind of California twist on The Clash. Blueprint was fun musically. The riffs in Reprovisional and Shut the Door were also very good.
The music is pretty good but the “punk” vocals are terrible.
Ok
Not bad
Pretty noisy!! 🗣️
Favorite Track: Repeater
Decent album, but became grating to me after a few listens.
The Good: pretty energetic music The Bad: why call your band “fake diamonds” The Ugly: the abuse of feedback sound after a while… Plenty I have read about the great Fugazi, little I had heard… now that I have, I’m neither here nor there. I lived the ‘90s in a different musical environment, so I can’t opine with such fervor as some other people have. I can appreciate the fact that they have/had a die-hard fanbase as the music, for the period, was pretty darn good. Still, not an album I will have on repeat play-list anytime soon… 2 1/2* bumped up
This album is what mosh pits were invented for...
Не понравилось
I liked this. The post-hardcore, low down reggae vibes were enjoyable all around. Twice listened and much enjoyed.
quite repetiotive
It's decent post punk. I feel pretty neutral about this album, but none of the songs really stood out.
An okay album, no real standout songs.
I was surprised it was from 1990 because the sound quality was great. Overall, pretty chill for an alternative album.
Good stuff, but kind of tired me out.
Tiesin että Fugazi on hardcorea, mutta täähän on tosi hyvän maun hardcorea. Melodiat ja riffit hyviä. Ihan radio kamaa. Parhaat: Song 1, Blueprint, Two Beats Off, Styrofoam
Like many thrash albums, the first 3/4 songs sound fantastic. But over 12 songs a degree of sameness unavoidably creeps in.
Very 90s. This sounds like something Jay and Silent Bob would be listening to outside the Quick Stop. I can see why this was included, but it's extremely outdated now.
Maybe 3.5
I mean, I kinda enjoyed it, I. listened to it in full and I did not hear most of the things people in the reviews are talking about. good but not my taste
This one feels like a good precursor to grunge and post-hardcore. It had some amazing moments.
This album wasn’t for me, but there are some interesting tracks on here. Certainly fits that post-hardcore/noise-rock aesthetic I’ve seen others ascribe to it. I dig the instrumentals, but the vocals, not so much. While this type of music isn’t my thing, I’m glad I gave it try. I didn’t hate it, so it sits in the middle for me with a 3/5. Favorite track: Styrofoam
Despite the title of the album I did not feel very inclined to do a repeat listen of this album. I wouldn't really call it bad, there's certainly some elements I don't like but I would say the album is mostly competent. I don't want to make a running gag of it but I would really say my main complaint was that the album really did feel like it was just repeating itself at points. Definitely something where I think I could just pick 1 or 2 songs from the album I enjoyed the most and still get the same feeling I would from the rest of the album with just those 2. Another of my big complaints would be the vocalists who take the lead between songs. They both range from serviceable to getting too much into a shouty tone. At their worst, one of the singers starts to get a bit shortbus-core with his intonations while the other one sounds like if you ordered The Beasties Boys on Temu. Not only did this just not create a strong melody for me with the instrumentals but it ultimately just feels like a distraction. My favourite parts from a lot of this involved the stretches that just featured the instruments.
I had a good time with this one. It wasn't super special for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. These guys reminded me of Refused, or at least the opening song did. Always a sucker for some good-ass guitar riffs, so I'm pretty happy with that album overall since it had a lot of that going on. Keeping it short and sweet, 3/5.
interesting noise. one can feel their class within that specific genre
Today I learnt that this is the lead singer of Minor Threat's other band and it's clear to see how they're an influence. 'Merchandise' and 'Styrofoam' are the two highlights here. Some of the less heavy, more pop-punky sounding tracks sound like they would fit perfectly on a Tony Hawk, or a mid 2000s WWE video game. Lots of energy and attitude, it was enjoyable to listen to but not really my kind of thing.
++: Turnover, Brendan #1, Shut the Door +: Repeater, Blueprint, Sieve-Fisted Find, Two Beats Off, Styrofoam, Reprovisional +-: Merchandise, Greed 7,7/10
It did not intrude on my work.
Mais uma banda que reconheço a importância, só que funcionou como influência para os sons de que eu realmente gosto e não para eu querer escutar novamente.
First time listening to Fugazi. I didn't hate it
Lots of energy and attitude and personality. It’s hard for me to get past the poor musicality and melody of most punk
58
Yeah ok.. I dig it. Definitely an influential band for the Punk genre.
Decent album with punk sound
A case of don't judge by the first few seconds. As it went along the oh no another of this type gave way to this has something about it. More structure and a subtleness of power.
3.5/5
Don't really remember listening to this, but I was at work. I think it was good! I don't think it was great! I don't think it was bad! It's a solid 3. maybe a 2.5 but also a 3
I might actually like post hardcore?
low 3 from me. Was just OK. None of the songs stood out. I didnt hate any from memory though. So average all round.
a bit better than average
2.75
I had high hopes, but it rapidly grew duller as I listened.
Bueno
I liked it, part grunge, part Beastie Boys. I'm not big into the punk scene, but this album was good
Prefer Minor Threat.
Still haven't found a band/vocalist in the genre that I like.
Music with messages are usually hit or miss for me. I find they tend to sacrifice something in order to get their message across and this is no different. Lyrically its deep but the instrumentals are a miss and the vocals arent much better, but I suppose that isnt the point.
Lyrically I really enjoyed it. You are not what you own! Musically I can’t think of any time in my life when I’d be in the mood to listen to this again. Talented lads no doubt but just not for me
That's a stiff way to start a Monday morning, but it is good. Not sure why they escaped be in the late 80's/early 90's. Perhaps I wasn't ready for this heat. Less glam than Aerosmith, more enjoyable than Nirvana, less dreamy than The Cure. I also love that the lyrics on Repeater are just repeated.
OK hard rock album. Reviews say it's a "landmark" but I didn't see it. maybe would benefit from another listen
I really missed the boat on these guys back in the day, so finding it hard to jump on now. Has all the things i like, just don't have the nostalgia for it.
There’s better punk.
Proto-grunge, eh? I enjoyed the crunchy guitars and bass but I confess I found Ian Mackaye’s vocals a tad irritating. The cool kids in high school loved this. Man, f&$%# those guys.
Good album.
Alright
Enjoyed ir and probably would more if I listened to it a few more times
I’d give a 3.5, just wasn’t my cup of tea when I listened. Need to relisten when I’m in the mood for it!
I liked the bass and drums. I’m starting to think the electric guitar is played out. Noise can be music. Sometimes it’s just noise. Boring. But the bass and drums are good. 2.5.
I like the instrumentals, but not the singing. Good rocky with attitude when it comes to the stylish and hard edged guitar and drums. ... but The vocals are noise. The intensely angry , annoying , louty accent and singing does nothing for me. (except for Waiting Room which is on another labum, so no points for that assignable here). And I do like thier instrumetnal track "sweet and low" also on another album. so.... They have an interesting sound but I am not going ot try hard to figure out what I like in their back catalogue. The great thing (learning) about this list, I'velearned to trust my musical instinct and judgemnt. A few track is enough for me, despite liking big hard rock done to me tastes, this aint.
This band were definitely of that late 80’s/early 90’s, edge-of grunge musical milieu. I reckon they’ve played a lot of early Pixies stuff (listen to Turnover). I enjoyed the music. The instrumentals - Brendan #1 & most of Styrofoam are terrific. The drumming is excellent (listen to Merchandise). I really liked Two Beats Off & Sieve-Fisted Find. Enjoyable slbum.
Sounded familiar even if I've never heard it.
I like this style of music, but this record doesn't do a great deal for me.
Pretty basic 90’s rock. Not sure why this one is on the list.
Next time I am working in the garage I am putting this on.
Not for me
Nothing really stood out. Seemed to be ahead of its time though. 2.5/5
Solid but missing some musical talent
I quite liked this - but don't feel the need to listen to it again.
Not bad for a punky type album.
Came in too excited for this one I think. Fine I suppose
È ok, credo
could i write poetry to this? n
As someone who gravitates towards vocal melody, this isn't really my bag. But the music is good and I like the attitude.
Didn't enjoy as much as other Fugazi albums (e.g. 13 Songs), but a few interesting tracks and good percussion.
Eigentlich finde ich es gut aber beim ganzen hören dann doch etwas limitiert.
I get why this is here. It was like pretty good early “alternative” music.
2.8.
Fíjate que me gusto pero entra en lo repetitivo, nada impresionante. 5/10.
Is this post-punk? I thought the music had some interesting ideas in it. Wasn't so keen on the singing voice/s. Might return to it later. Might not. 3 and a half stars.
Really enjoyed this, another band that I think was just before my time and an influence on so many of the bands I got into at college etc…. Would revisit.
Pretty cool album. It cooks more on the second half. I usually play 13 Songs, but this might enter my rotation too. I can't commit to it yet though.
Turnover was a really cool start, but as the energy gets more ragged the album loses me. Fave Tracks: Turnover, Shut the Door 3.2/5
This is a solid album. I had heard of Fugazi, but I'm not sure I head ever heard an actual song before. Tight, aggressive songs with great guitar punchy rhythm section and can clearly hear the link to "grunge." Some standout tracks were "Blueprint," "Repeater," "Turnover," and "Shut the Door" (I liked the softer sound with some intense/powerful moments). I'll dig more into the catalog.
Pretty generic sounding punk rock. Nothing special.
I knew a few songs by Fugazi but none were on this album. All good stuff here but nothing stood out.
Fundamental guitar work for a lot of what else came in the 90s. Enjoyable throughout
Favourite song blueprint
Not bad. Not really my jam
I like some Fugazi songs—and I really like their politics—but I ultimately think I like the idea of Fugazi more than Fugazi itself.
Not a highlight, but all around solid. Pretty progressive and refined for being from 1990.
Pretty good post-punk. Not as great as punk.
Musically I love this. But the "singing" just grates across an entire album
Wasn’t bad! Enjoyed the drums
Almost interesting
Fine I suppose. Interesting and different enough not to disappoint, but I'm not going to search them out or explore further unless some future person is adamant I must.
frenetic hardcore punk
I feel like this the type of album i would've savaged if I had gotten it in the first 500 but I actually enjoyed this one a decent amount. It's the typical aggressive hardcore of the late 80s and early 90s but I didn't get sick of it halfway through as I tend to do with this genre.
Turnover - 4 Repeater - 3.5 Brendan #1 - 4 Merchandise - 4 Blueprint - 3.5 Sieve-Fisted Find - 3 Greed - 3.5 Two Beats Off - 3 Styrofoam - 3.5 Reprovisional - 3.5 Shut the Door - 4 Average - 3.59 Song #1 - 3.5 Joe #1 - 4 Break-In - 3.5 + 3 Songs - 3.6 10/10 Skate/Fight Music 🤘
tiene su rollo
Definitely is the precursor to hardcore punk bands. Missing some guitar distortion though.
Dc!
I don't know if I like this album. Fugazi were very influencial, but this is sometimes difficult to listen to. I see why many bands reference them, but I don't really like it.
Repeater is right. Stand after standard. I've never really jumped on this train.
A bit too hard for me, yesterday it was a 2, today I softened to a 3, but prob won't listen to it again.
5/10. The singing was unfortunate but not overpowering enough to where I didn’t enjoy other elements. I liked a lot of the instrumental elements, especially the transitions from song to song and the bass guitar. But it wasn’t impressive enough to take the total product above a 5 more me.
I enjoyed this. Never really listened to them but they were good.
I liked the drums
Seemed fine ye
i think its pretty good album flows nicely together as well which i always appreciate to me its nothing TOO special but i still liked it probably like a 3.3/5
As straight forward as Post Hardcore can get. No frills, no thrills. Ian MacKaye and his band of Straight edge rockers form the bones of what the genre would later become. This in combination with their debut are the reason this genre exists.
Kind of a punk hard-core transition album. It's not the kind of music I particularly enjoy listening to. What stood out to me on many songs was a very melodic bassline coming through the noise of the distorted guitars a loud vocals. The bass isn't normally distinguishable in this style of music, I found that very interesting to hear
I liked this - very decent.
Decent vibe, better than expected. Secure 3 stars.
I can appreciate the punkness and the musicianship, but it just doesn't jive with me for some reason.
3.8 - Amazing guitar work with surprising nuance, especially considering other hardcore and hardcore-adjacent records I’ve heard. I love the dynamic song structures. Despite the anti-capitalist rage, the overall tone is heady and measured. Standout: “Blueprint”
This is very good musically, but I've never enjoyed shout-y vocals. If there was more melody in the vocals I might have loved this. While I'm glad I listened to it once, I don't feel like I'll be revisiting.
Very nice, I enjoyed listening to the entire thing.
Not their best album.
Good album start to finish but in the end I was no rush to listen again.
Interesting. Had heard about it but never listened until yesterday. Enjoyed it during my workout.
Not early morning music.
I never really got into punk all that much as a kid and now I really wonder why. This totally would have been my jam. I've always known of Fugazi but never really listened to them all that much outside their big songs. Great band.
I liked the bass and the drums but not the vocals as much - 6/10
Feel like it was a very mid rock album and rock is not my preferred type of music so it was kind of underwhelming 5/10
I like Fugazi in theory, but less so in practice. Their music isn't really my style, but it's not overtly objectionable.
Pretty good, forward-thinking album. Nothing amazing here, though.
Turns out I like their later stuff better.
I love the history of the DC scene and the characters in it. Wish I liked Fugazi a little more than I do.
I thought it was ok. I liked the drums and the basslijes were great but the rest was a little lacking and loud. But in the future I could probably appreciate it with a better starting point and introduction.
nice melange de punk / rock et un autre style de musique. pas trop agressif, bien balancé. bien aimé overall 7/10
I’m not sure how I really feel about Fugazi’s album. I really enjoyed the music and beat, not sure on the vocals. I didn’t hate it and it really did evoke 90s to me. I’m going to go with a 3
5/10
Punky
Ouais ouais ouais
On the verge of a 4, Fugazi’s debut album showcased a very new kind of punk, one with extremely tight instrument relationships and passionate energy
Listened Before? N I think I may have heard this one once way back in HS.. It's pretty good. More complex than it seems on the surface. There's some gems here! Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Merchandise, Repeater
How on earth did I never know Ian MackAye was in Fugazi? Big fan of minor threat and Fugazi has always been on my radar, I just never made that connection. In any case, this just didn't click completely with me today. I really liked some tracks, didn't care for others. I have a feeling this is one I have to listen to again when I don't have a hangover on a monday morning lmao.
Very fun Skater music.
Not sure on this one. Needs another listen. 2.5
Post hard-core classic im told. I like the dexterity more than the shouty vocals but thats me.
Another classic band with a lo-fi sound that isn't entirely my thing, though I can see why it's popular and I enjoyed Merchanise and Blueprint quite a lot. Just doesn't go far enough down that route to hold my attention.
This album is patchy, but good - it sometimes falls into tuneless shouty noise, but most of the time it manages to walk that line pretty well. Like Tim says, it's quite hard work, but there are bits that are a bit more polished; Blueprint is probably the most polished song on the album and also probably the best. 3/5, could make the case for a higher score based on its impact but it's a bit too raw, rough and ready for me.
Not really my genre, but this album was listenable. Lyrics didn’t really draw me in as much as other punk albums, but musically I enjoyed it more. Probably wouldn’t listen again though
Much better hardcore punk album than most. While I wouldn't say it's melodic, it does have a few good sonic moments as opposed to being noise for the sake of making noise.
Better and more melodic than I expected. Is it possible this influenced Red Hot Chili Peppers?
I think this may be a classic case of I needed to be there. I can hear the talent and the energy is high. But they are completely new to me and I feel if I’d known about them in 1990, I would have more connection. Who knows what I was listening to back then? Probably The Chameleons. This lot seem to have incredibly right-on credentials. I just feel I’m a bit late to the party. Or the $5 gig?
I wasn't able to give this the attention I wanted to, but at the same time, a spin through the album was all I needed to recognize this band isn't going to make my "must-listen" list. I was glad to hear it, I have listened to Fugazi before, but not much — I thought I was going to be in for a full-metal onslaught. Now I know better, so it was educational. Good on them. They'll have to carry on without me.
Maybe listen again. Sounds really polished.
It's ok. Not the sort of thing I particularly enjoy. Something about his singing style doesn't work for me. Decent enough listen
What a hidden gem, though I'm surprised 1001 didn't opt for one of their more commercially successful albums.
Skip
I’m pretty sure that I discovered Fugazi through MySpace many moons ago, which definitely ages me somewhat. I can’t remember any specific songs I heard from them back then, but if I remember correctly they were punk. This leaves me hopeful for today’s listen, so let’s find out! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Merchandise, Reprovisional It feels kind of hard to put a number on the album. As a punk album, it sounds very good and exactly as I would have hoped. If I was an anarchistic teenager with plenty of angst then I would possibly have loved this. However, I’m not an apathetic thirty-something year old who likes hot chocolates and trying her best to ignore the goings on in the world. In that, I’m not as mad about this as maybe I once would have been. Regardless, I did enjoy it, so there’s that.
Rock with a slight Punk attitude. Nice. Nothing standing out, but nice. 3/5
Not for me
Meh
pretty unique sounding album, especially for the time. This album shows the transition from traditional hardcore to a more alternative sound.
Foot tapping. Catchy. Nothing super special tho, middle tracks get a little dull but they start and end pretty strong. I like the guitar tone on Shut the door.
It seems to have a cult following. As someone from a completely different part of the world - I have never heard of them. It's giving me skate punk vibes with a bit of ambition to be something more than that. And it kind of irritates me because it somehow gets pretentious and insincere? I don't know. Repeater is a great tune though. up to 3
Could not quite get a handle on this. A few glimpses of exciting tracks and hyper-energetic but hard to see what stood out in this album. Perhaps shook things up at the time.
This has the elements that I like about Fugazi, the tight bass and drums with abrasive guitars. However I never liked this album and still didn’t really enjoy it this time. I think it lacks the hooks and choruses that The Argument has, which is my favourite of theirs. I didn’t find any song particularly memorable.
Legendarisch, maar nooit goed beluisterd. Lekker hor.
Ok album, not really interested by the music or singing. Ok punk but probably wouldn’t listen again
Honestly don't know how to rate this one. Didn't like it, but I thought it was good. WTF
I listened to this twice - once on my commute to work, and once back. I liked it better the first time (maybe I was in a worse mood because I was going to work as opposed to leaving, who knows?) I appreciate what it is and they're certainly talented, but I prefer my music to be a little more melodic
Lots of interesting musicality interacting through Hard Rock. Didn't listen as intently as desired, but certainly a good and important album for what it is
The good parts are good: The band is clearly at play and mixing skill onto the recording. However, the thesis falls just too flat. Neither obscure nor illuminating, there's truth to the advice to listen to Repeater in specific times and places. Now, at relative rest, seems like a subpar choice.
Quite good, but not outstanding - would make a good support group, but I wouldn't pay to see them.
I used to own this, but it wasn’t familiar at all... Will probably go back to it later.
Prima punk
What a strong memory on nearly every song. It‘s raw but has a slight pop appeal. The drums are super intensifing the whole structure. In the long run it feels a bit too long for these 42 minutes. 3.4
color me impressed! upon my listen, it was easy to hear similarities with nirvana and rage against the machine. it's a shame fugazi isn't as well known as those bands, considering they laid the stepping stones. i hear some more punk in this album than i typically do for alternative rock in the nineties. fugazi's repeater didn't blow me out of the water as something i'd listen to again, but i appreciated it. to include something specific and positive on this album: fugazi didn't waste a lot of time writing lyrics! that isn't necessarily a bad thing--we all can't be taylor swift. but some of it i enjoyed. the "every slip's not a slide" line from "reprovisional" was particularly poignant.
This album came as somewhat of a surprise, musically. The genre here is "post-hardcore", and what I'm interpreting that as in this case is this movement from the very eclectic, heavy punk scene into a more melodic alternative and/or grunge rock sound. This album definitely exists somewhere in that in-between transitional space, neither quite one or the other. This album is another example of a breeding ground and jumping off point for the evolution of music. Unlike other "proto" type genre albums on this project where the album's presence seems to be based more on its contribution to music history and based less on its actual enjoyability, this album actually shines in both areas. As indicated above, it creates something unique and presents a good mix of two different musical worlds. And while this album no doubt fed into the alt/grunge 90s scene, this particular sound mix even seems to provide somewhat of a blueprint for the 2000s emo/screamo movement. No doubt a lot of bands have been influenced by this album in one way or another. While I wouldn't say any specific songs stood out here, I definitely found myself enjoying this album as a whole, both for its influence and its sound!
Good fun. Will try out more Fugazi
Not bad
It’s good!
Technically adept noise
I love how playful this is. There are moments when they rock out like a hardcore band and moments that sound more like artsy post-punk. The songs move and change enough that you can’t easily nail down the style. They’re a restless band. There’s some excellent musicianship throughout. “Brendan #1” in particular is gorgeous.
wroom wroom gitarrer
Maybe I'm just not a Fugazi person, this is ok but I'm not excited about it, don't want to rewind any songs or search this out!
3.5
Sure it's uncompromising, but also insistently ugly and non-melodic. It's as if Fugazi doesn't want many people to like or enjoy their outputs, in which case they've succeeded gloriously, despite a few well-wrought riffs and moods. What might have been with some variance in the textures and some competent vocals. One understands they were great live; one knows intuitively that it would have been difficult to tell the songs apart or withstand the assault for very long.
It's definitely a good album and Fugazi sure knows how to play their instruments. It's not really my type of rock and I couldn't really get into the album even though I understand why people like it.
They don’t hold back. This is some angry shit right here
I want to like this. But nothing stands out. It's a good album. But not a great album. I give plus 1 star though (maybe unfairly) simply because I adore Fugazi's work ethic and view on Capitalism.
Man, back in the day, I knew some dudes (it was always dudes) who were super into Fugazi. Like... REALLY into these guys. I never understood the appeal. They're kind of a mess. Clearly a bunch of talented musicians, for sure. But the music they made is mostly just a mess. None of these tracks are terrible but every track comes up short. I mean, I like it more now than I did back then but that's not really saying much about the band and more about my increased tolerance for nonsense, I think. Anyway, I'll give it middling marks for putting out something vaguely interesting and then move on to more engaging albums.
An angry and raw record that preceded the big grunge classics that followed later in the early 1990s.
I'm not sure why I don't connect with Fugazi. The recipe is there but I just think they are meh.
Most excellent pre-grunge. The rhythm section sounds amazing. Not usually my style but I saved a couple - Sieve-Fisted Find and Joe #1.
Best Song: Merchandise. Feels like a song I'd listen to while I play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. Worst Song: Two Beats Off. I didn't come to this punk show for people to whine. Overall: Nice and crusty proto punk. Not my genre, but good for what it is. I can imagine it'd be great in a live show. In my headphones, not so much.
Wild, aggro and fun. 3 stars.
Maybe it needs a second try. Did made click with it.
This was just boring? No songs stood out and didn't find the singing or music particularly engaging. Just all sounds the same. 5/10.
Before today, I'd only heard of Fugazi, but had never listened to them before. The way I heard of them was actually through another album I've already reviewed on this generator. That album was Out of Step by Minor Threat. The singer from that band, Ian MacKaye, is also the singer for this band. I loved that album, it was awesome punk, and this album is post hardcore punk. Ian never wanted to be part of a band who could ever be accused of selling out, so when Minor Threat made it to the mainstream, he left the band for another, eventually creating Fugazi. This wasn't as strong as his Minor Threat stuff, I found. Maybe I'm just not as much a fan of post hardcore punk? Whatever the reason, this just didn't resonate with me the way the Minor Threat album did. This album is full of distorted guitars, machine gun drums, and screaming lyrics. I can hear how the Offspring drew influence from songs such as Merchandise. Overall, not bad, but not great. Just average. I kind of couldn't keep focused on this album today. One song would blend into the next. Good music that was absolutely influential, but I doubt I will revisit. Favourite songs: Merchandise, Song 1, Shut The Door, Blueprint, Reprovisional Least favourite songs: Break-In, Two Beats Off 3/5
Standouts: Repeater Other: Merchandise, Greed. I’ve heard this album before. The only song that I remembered was ‘Repeater’. Everything else was like hearing it for the first time. You can tell they are talented. I think that the songs would be better if sung by someone with a unique and stand-out voice. The vocals just seemed like any number of bar-bands playing the hits of other artists. I think this album is on the list because musically (not vocally) the album does seem to be ahead of its time and was probably an influence on later artists. It is barely above average. 3/5
Particularly like the track where he sings about Ribena. Feel like it doesn’t get sung about enough. Jokes aside this is the highlight of the album and comes quite early. I think I prefer Fugazi as a best of artist, there albums tend to drone through between highlights I like Fugazi. Good tracks on here but none of my faves really. Would listen again.
Fun, high energy, rocky, really enjoyed on a first listen and will likely come back to them. Some would say this album may be a Repeater. Haha!
Just a really good post-hardcore album and I'd listen again happily.
I liked this. A little less "hardcore" than I was expecting, which is a good thing. Reminds me a bit of early Replacements - loud, raucous, and fun. 3 stars.
not bad
Turnover, Repeater and Blueprint were good songs
Pretty good if you're in the mood for something that is an island in between the 80s and 90s.
I liked this ok… listened to it a couple of times today. I still kind of scratch my head about this being “a landmark of rock music.” Maybe it would have felt more that way had I listened to this in 1990. Listening to it today I thought it was fine.
Excellent album that was ahead of its time musically. Unique basslines... rowdy, riff-heavy guitars... solid, propulsive beat. Ian MacKaye has sounded better, but I prefer his vocal to Guy Picciotto. Fave Songs: Merchandise, Brendan #1, Repeater, Greed, Shut the Door
Pretty cool punk band.
3.75
Not bad...
Fugazi is kind of hit or miss for me. I've just never spent much time listening to them. This album is fine and all, but I'd probably never seek it out on purpose to give it another listen.
Weird album, not bad music though. I thought they were pretty good.
Punk
Punky. Fine. Nothing to write home about.
I liked this album, but I think that is because it is the exact kind of music that I am passionate about, but I don't consider it so different from any other thing that I have listened to before. Apparently (according to Wikipedia), they were very influential in the early 90s, but it does not sound atemporal to me. Going deep on the band's Wikipedia page, I must say that their posture in the music business is admirable but considering only this "Repeater" album, I rate it three stars.
I like this better than most of the Minor Threat stuff. The whole band writing the songs together seemed to work well.
Not crazy about the vocals but the are exactly what they are meant to be. The music sans vocals is awesome.
Not my type of music generally, enjoyed a few tunes though, particularly the titular one. 2.9
Didn't hate it as much as I though I would
Was okay, very similar to a lot of other albums.
Alright. Noisy.
meh, I like this kind of music so I thought it was fine.
Bueno
Early '90s rock is such an interesting mess. The entire thing felt like a hit and miss. This album's opener, "Turnover", and closer, "Shut the Door" are absolute hits. The rest are pretty okay, I guess. The album as a whole has the rage and grittiness of punk, but it is damped by the wooshy noise of noise rock. That's post-hardcore I guess. Fascinating stuff.
I enjoyed the raw energy of this album. It seems pretty stripped down, straight forward angry rock. Nothing quite catchy enough to move it up the ratings, but there also wasn't anything that pushed me away. A good listen.
A couple of good songs. 3/5
Rock con mucha pegada de batería, algunos buenos acordes, pero un tanto plano en cuanto a desarrollo
This is another one that can be totally taken or left. It’ll rock some peoples worlds and others will be left suffering the despair of the boredom wank rather than listen to it…make of that what you will.
The band that successfully kept punk alive in the late 80s / early 90s merits a must listen with Repeater. 3.5/5
Your favorite band's favorite band. Pretty solid. I like their later work more though.
This likability of this was on the cusp and went back and forth from being noise I like. The cusp dwellers get 3 at the most.
This is some surprisingly nuanced post hardcore punk. They show some really good writing and their musicmanship is also pretty good. Their sound is pretty stripped down and fairly straightforward, just a guitarist/vocalist, bass player and drummer but they all rock out pretty good. Repeater shows some great chops and Song 1 sounds like a punked out Beastie Boys.
Kovaa menoa ja räiskettä, mutta eipä taaskaan yltänyt työnteon kynnyksen yli mitään erityistä helmeä. Tän voisin kyllä laittaa uudelleenkuuntelulistalle. 3/5 toistaiseksi.
Didn’t appreciate it at first but it does improve with every… repeat… 🙃I think this one requires a bit more listens but it’s not going to get much deeper than a decent early 90s punk album. Would have appreciated it much better had I heard it in my teens
This was alright, but a downgrade from "13 Songs"
Já já, þokkalegasta rokk. Nokkuð hrátt en ekki alveg orðið 90s rokk.
This is much better than I thought it would be. Catchy, short, fun songs with a lot of attitude. It's not for me, but I'll nod in understanding if someone else wants to nosebleed over this album.
