Nice??

Seth - 4.6/5 Logan - 4.5/5

Ya tardabas

Such a classic! Memories of high school daze and “Passage to Bangkok”!

Not my typical type of music at all! But with the vocals of Geddy Lee I liked it enough to listen to it twice!

Would buy

Exceptional!!

Unexpectedly gooood

LISTENING TO 10/10 RECORDS LIKE THIS, IS THE REASON THIS HEART STILL BEATS!!!

damn, thats great

Now THIS is some good fucking prog rock! Nasty riffs and solid vocals from Lee (whom I thought was a woman at first with how good his falsetto is). Not a single miss throughout the whole runtime. 5/5

Great album.

Rush levert weer heerlijke boomer-rock a la Led Zeppelin. Ik kan er verder van alles over schrijven. Maar ik kan het ook gewoon lekker nog een keer aanzetten. Wederom een welverdiende 5 voor Rush.

One of the few prog rock bands/LPs that I love.

Probably one of the easiest W's that the 1001 Albums books could achieve is including the two albums that are must-hears to get into Rush. One of the most revered progressive rock acts, the band constantly changed and evolved its sound with such technical proficiency. They started as just another Led Zeppelin-influenced hard rock group before Neil Peart joined the band, and he started writing lengthy, narrative-driven songs with complex structures for them. Granted, some of their first stabs at this progressive rock songwriting ranged from goofy with "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" to clunky fan-fiction written while they were high. That last sentiment fits the longer tracks off of Caress of Steel; that album rubbed so many people the wrong way that their next record was a make-or-break moment for Rush to stay on a label and take creative control. Against pressure from their label and management to make a more commercial record, Rush outright ignored them and proceeded with what they saw fit. Thank God that ballsy move paid off, as 2112 ended up a success, and it's not hard to see why. The opening title track is debatably some of the finest 20 minutes in rock history. I know that sounds daunting to people who are newer to prog music and feel intimidated by the length. But believe me, "2112" as a track more than justifies its length across several movements of Alex Lifeson's sweeping guitar melodies, Neil Peart's thunderous beats, and Geddy Lee's powerhouse vocals that effortlessly shift in pitch to match the different characters within the narrative. In fact, the narrative can be distilled down to one man's plight for creative freedom against an oppressive government entity, only for that entity to be overthrown by a resistance movement. I think there's some universal appeal in such a story, plus it nicely segues into the second half. Side two of 2112 can be considered a coda to the band's early days of simplistic songwriting. While this side's obviously not as ambitious as the first, there's no denying how amazingly good a collection of tunes this is. "A Passage to Bangkok" is a fun romp about getting high during an excursion, "The Twilight Zone" is a nice homage to the original television series, "Lessons" and "Something from Nothing" are both hard-hitting, confrontational rockers, and "Tears" is a gut-wrenching ballad with some light Mellotron motifs. I can't imagine a more fitting ending to the first chapter of this band. Yeah, it's no surprise that I adore 2112 as a record. I'm glad it exists, cause it was what Rush needed to take their creative freedom. They have assumed control.

I’ve been on a little Rush kick the past couple weeks, and what delightful kick it has been. So to cap it with this drop was a literal rush. I can’t think of many bands as technically locked-in as Rush, and all three musicians are next level. When they use it to do something this creative it’s hard to miss. One of their masterpiece albums, the loping bass, the creative guitar riffs, and the absolutely insane drumlines. All-timer.

Not a lot to say other than it's great. Prog Rock at it's best - I fucking love Rush.

Loved it, just loved it. I am a fan of Classic Rock and any fan of Classic Rock or even just Rock in general should have a good time with this album. The overture is wonderful, 5/5 thank you.

I've been listening to this album the past 3 weeks and it's so good a "passage to Bangkok", "something for nothing" and "tears" were my favorites of the album specially "tears" i found myself relating to every single lyric in this song. Over all I loved the album so much and started to listen to more albums of the band

Cripes. I'm 14 and having my mind blown all over again. Not their best but it was their 'breakthrough album'.

Can’t be objective…this album is perfect.

THE rock opera, with a host of solid B-sides to accompany it. The namesake song is a journey to a dystopian future and an exploration of what it means to be human and how art affects one's identity. It's always relevant, and always a great listen, given you have 20 minutes.

One of the best albums ever created by a trio of absolute legends. I don't even need to listen, but I will.

Good album but not their best work

Rush!!! Enough said! Great album and enjoyed the listening while working! Happy listening all!

Amazing

Oh, a classic! This was the first Rush album I ever heard. There was a period in my adolescence when I discovered Pink Floyd and Progressive Rock, and I thought, "Ah, okay, maybe there's nothing better than this, but let me check my options." Then I found bands like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson... and of course, Rush. I perfectly remember the feeling I had when I heard Neil Peart's drums for the first time. 2112 was, in fact, the first album in English (my native language is Portuguese) where I actually stopped to read the lyrics, and it was FANTASTIC! Anyway, I'm sounding like a 16-year-old teenager again, hahaha. 5 stars.

Discazo conceptual

Can't wait to see them later this year on stage in Toronto and DC. 2112 was a courageous album coming on the heels of Caress of Steel which underperformed—commercially, critically, and even among parts of their fanbase—Rush were under real pressure. The label wanted something more conventional, something radio‑friendly, something safe. Instead, the band doubled down on the very thing people said was the problem: long-form storytelling, conceptual ambition, and unapologetic prog-rock maximalism. 2112 wasn’t just a creative choice; it was a statement of identity. It said: “If we’re going down, we’re going down as ourselves.” That kind of artistic defiance is rare. And it paid off. The title suite became the band’s breakthrough, not because it was accessible, but because it was unmistakably Rush—a fusion of virtuosity, narrative, and raw conviction. Such an easy 5.

Batshit crazy and wonderful.

Muchas gracias

Banger façam mais 10/10

Awesome

Exceptional album both music and lyrics.

Classic

The best Rush album.

Classic!!

Really solid. They seem less polished and more unhinged on this than on Moving Pictures which I kinda dug. Loved, cannot emphasize this enough, how they broke the odyssey at the beginning into distinct and connected segments. Apparently that's not something a lot of people know how to do (cough cough Goldie). The rest of the album held up really well. I think I just talked myself into a 5 but we shall see in the morning.

The album that expanded my horizons and made me start collecting records.

I love ittt

Theres nothing about this album I didnt like. Guitar is amazing.

That's it then really, isn't it? This clearly wins the 1001.

5.0 - easy 5.0, "I listened to that a ton in highschool" - Garrett Fox 4/10/26. Me too Gary, me too 2112 overture - 5.0 What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives forth a sound It's got wires that vibrate and give music What can this thing be that I found? - Nice This is crazy A Passage to Bangkok - this goes hard The Twilight zone - went hard Lessons - good Tears - good 5.0

what a visceral experience. it was honestly a relief that the first song was over. the production was great. 38 minutes feels too short for an album like this. love a good rock opera

It was good. Guitar was nice, my style.

Solid prog rock.

The title track is fun, engaging, and doesn’t overstay its welcome! The pacing wouldn’t feel right if it took up the entire record. They’re thechnically skilled, but it doesn’t fee aloof or pretentious to me. It just rocks. Even if the band and I might have somewhat different politics, this is an anti-conformist, anti-totalitarian album. My godfather got me the CD for my 21st birthday. When he passed away, I inherited another copy along with his record collection. I’m thankful for it, protective of it.

Classic

5 love this classic one! Rush rocked! It accompanies my reading of the book A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah j Maas. Yes, I am a nerd but I love me!

MMe encantan las guitarras, las ideas, la ejecución. Todos clavados.

Rush albums should be taught as great literature.

Definitivamente lo volvería a escuchar

Great listen. 5/5

Rush is definitely a band that you either love or hate and in my opinion they’re one of the greatest prog groups of all time.

Peak era Rush. The opening epic saga is one of their greatest achievements, this is the one where they really found their form. I;ve often said I prefer '70s rush to later albums, this, along with the next two albums, is exactly why. Side 2 is a near perfect collection of their short form songwriting, especially A Passage To Bangkok and Something For Nothing, both of which were live standards for the next few decades.

Classique. Comme le chante Stephen Malkmus: What about the voice of Geddy Lee How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy? I know him and he does (J'adore Pavement)

ахуеть 76??????

first 7 mins I was like.... do I like this. I know it's cool but do i like this.... then they start tuning mid song and have this raw ass breakdown. I guess i do like this.

5 stars! Masterpiece

Proof once more that the 1970's were the dog's crown jewels. Prog rock was a late, aquired taste. But when it's this good ... Five!

I'm a huge Rush fan, so I'm biased, but this was a great listen that brought me back to my high school days. Also, over half of the album is one song, which I think is awesome.

Great! I've listened to some Rush before but never a full album. 2112 is a memorable prog epic, and I also really liked Twilight Zone.

Come on, man. Even with just the vocals alone. Instant 5/5.

First time listening to 2112. Did a fun deep dives of the lyrics which I quite enjoyed while I listened. Solid album 5 stars

I have heard this album so many times, and I shall almost certainly hear it many, many more times in the future. Rush's 2112 is one of my top ten albums of all time, and definitely my favourite Rush album. It's one of those albums I have to stop and listen to when it comes on, and has been a bit of a feature in my life since I was a small child. It's just perfect, and therefore gets a perfect five.

fantastic, no notes

While Rush have done the side-long suite thing on other albums, it's arguable that none of them were as great as 2112. Hemispheres might be my favorite full album from the group, but this was a formative record for me when I was younger and getting into prog. "A Passage to Bangkok" and "Tears" are my big takeaways from side B, don't shut the album off before giving those a chance. Lord knows I did plenty of times as a kid before I realized their greatness.

Great album

Geddy Lee is so fuckin goated man. Each song is so damn electric and the quit bits are all mystical.. rush is so fire.

So good I don't even care that it's prog.

The opening title track's movements are so awesome. I love the rocker that is Temples Of Syrinx and the beauty of Discovery, Lee's vocals actually work very well for me and the guitar work is lovely. I also love when we shift into Presentation, it just feels so good when the instrumentation changes into the big instrumental. Lee's vocals during The Oracle are actually excellent and remind me slightly of Robert Plant vocals. The whole thing is amazing and among the best prog epics of all time. The second side of the record, while not nearly as impressive is still very very good hard rock, "A Passage To Bangkok" is an excellent weedy song. "The Twilight Zone" makes enough weird production choices to live up to the show. "Lessons" is very good. "Tears" is a very good song with a great power behind its playing and vocals and it moves very slowly and deliberately with a lot of emotion. "Something For Nothing" has an amazing groove, and is one of my favorites and good God the guitar!

Exquisite.

Fuck yaa. Slappin tha bass. 4.8.

The first time listening to this album was during my freshman year of college while walking back to my dorm room after a random forest party. My friend wanted to show me a song, and he put the first track to this album: a 20 minute masterpiece. I would've been annoyed but this song rocks. I've listened to it so many times since then. Obvious 5 stars for me. Some guy was whispering in my ear during track 3

Better than Coldplay

How could we have 20 minute long song woho

Awesome

Where do I click 6 stars?

Unreal. Such a great album!

5/5 for the title track alone, this is an excellent epic album. Need more Rush in my life.

I was intimidated by the idea of a 20 minute opener, but I really liked this album! The 20 minute opener didn't drag, and the album is a lot of fun.

What can I say. This is awesome and full of nostalgia for me. The first album I already knew fully. Of course it is getting five stars.

I've never listened to Rush properly before but this is sick, first 5 star I have given to an album I hadn't heard previously

Rush is good thanks

Easiest 5/5 on this list so far.

Rush is a remarkably uncool act, a fact even the band admitted in their documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Their lyrics, heavily inspired by author Ayn Rand, are nerdy, cheesy, and often cringe-inducing. But the sheer musicianship here is staggering, and somehow it all comes together into something great. It definitely isn't for everyone, but there’s no denying that Rush achieved their goal of creating a prog-rock masterpiece with this, albeit one that I can't take too seriously.

My favourites just keep coming first Hendrix now Rush oh list I ask and you giveth :)

This is so awesome. Naysayers aren't even fit to be the janitors of the Temple of Syrinx.

A killer 38 minutes!

Banger album, love when dudes jam for ages. Great guitar in here.

really really solid. Best 20 min long song I have ever heard my a long shot. The depth of sound is just so awesome

Very epic, love the theming and really are only a few dull moments in the entire album (mostly in the second half). Temples is probably the high point

Man, I love a side long prog epic.

Classic !

A masterpiece

Incredible album, the weakest point being (imo) in Tears. Still, Bangkok was the first Rush track I ever heard, so it will have a special place in my heart

Honestly really good album

God I love rush. It ain’t easy being cheesy

https://1001albumsgenerator.com/as

hemispheres is better

Top tier. 20 minute song is like a mini album

One that started it all!!!

fantastic all the way.

Today, tomorrow sawyer. Tomorrow, the world.

It’s Rush, enough said, simply awesome

Wow, what a fucking classic! Ya they sure don’t make albums like this today. I’ve listened to most of their catalogue and it’s so amazing to me, the path they took to get here in their career, and where they went afterwards. Such an important turning point! One of, if not the greatest, progressive rock bands of all time!! So much great music to absorb here, probably takes at least a dozen listens to begin to understand. This band deserves multiple albums on this list. Here’s hoping for another!

We're back baby! After a spell of fairly middling albums this has blown the cobwebs away. I don't entertain many 20 minute album openers but Rush know it's all about the riff. There's a lot to love here - great musicians.

a masterpiece

I thought to myself - where is the CanCon here!!! And then the rock legends Rush ascending onto the list. Rush, for most is a divine band. Personally, I oscillate between cringing at Geddy Lee’s vocal and being in complete awe of his range. WHO sounds like that!!?? But this record overall is so tight with perfect guitar rifts and solos - it is pure rock gold. Normally 4 stars but a bonus star for being Canucks.

Alex Lifeson is a wizard holy moley. Absolutely loved this, amazing piece of prog rock with just some of the best solos I've ever heard

A top ten album to me 👍

5 stars is not enough for Rush!

What can be said about an all timer such as this? Rush was a progressive band destined to outshine every other band to come. When we talk about other bands in the same vein, like Tool, Yes, and King Crimson, I've always held these guys at the top and this album is why. It an odyssey of an album. Also the train to Bangkok is actually about chess and not what everyone else thinks it is.

Best Song: 2112:Overture/The Temples of Syrinx/Discovery A 20:33 opening track, well damn. This is another great album from insanely talented musicians and songwriters. 5/5.

Great prog album and musicianship.

Masterpiece

My favorite Rush work. Such a sick concept album.

Zero notes. Listened to a 20 minute song twice, that’s a miracle. This is my favorite rock album so far

5 stars, no notes.

11yo me had his mind blown by this. When I put in on now it takes me straight nec6k there.

Classic

I don't know how to review this. It's so self explanatory, but and one of the easiest 5s, so I'll just go with few statements a) Title tracks is one of the best things ever existed a2) yes, really b) Does it gets better than this? Yes, but the book only includes 2112 and Moving Pictures. All my favourite Rush albums are within them (A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves. A Farewell To Kings is in my top 5 albums of all time) c) Second side is a bit weaker than first side with title track. But what else compares to that? _) Just on a side note. Some of the people in reviews are hating on Ayn Rand. I don't agree with her on everything. She had some good points and some bad points. Books are art too, you don't have to agree with anything. d) I love Geddy Lee and Neil Peart so much, you won't believe. Yet, I still believe the MVP of the band was Alex Lifeson. He brought it all to life with chaotic but fantastic solos. e) This was the album, that Mercury (their label) intented to be their last. Their previous to that point was Caress Of Steel, which is fantastic, but was commercial flop. The band thought it was going to be their last album at that moment. AND. That means they're intented that "Something For Nothing" was be their last song and last testament. Now we're talking about goodbye words. This song's and its message are so good, they made me feel lazy. Now this whole book lacks more Rush. A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres y'all

Insta-5 star for me. I love this album and it was my first cassette tape of Rush that I got from a friend. Side A of the cassette was all of 2112 and I would listen to side A all the time and rewind it, skipping side B a lot. Side B is really great as well with Something for Nothing being an amazing song. The whole album is amazing and was my gateway drug to Rush in high-school. To this day I proudly wear my faded black naked-man 2112 T-shirt much to the rolled eyes of my wife and kids.

Очень хороший альбом, прекрасные не особо сложные гитарные рифы соло тоже хороши, к вокалу надо немного привыкнуть, бас партии тоже заслуживают внимания. 4.7

There might be some bias as I do really like Rush, however this album is a triumph. Of course the 20 minute epic at the start is truly amazing but the remainder of the album stacks up well. Have listened to this album a number of times and will listen through many times more.

Listened to the album while driving, definitely deserves paying closer attention, solid album. The harmonic entry of the solo at the end of the twilight zone, right after the second "enter this world of imagination" gave me goosebumps, wasn't anticipating that.

Un progressive magnifico. A volte rimpiango di non aver conosciuto i rush ben prima... Ah, se al primo ascolto 2112 non piace fanne un secondo e vedi ti piacerà.

Amazing. Proto Prog Metal at its best. Musicianship - off the charts across the board. This is the album when Rush became Rush.

Legendary prog album from a legendary prog band. Absolutely worth the listen.

What can you say about this album other than - One of the best. Classic Rush, this album has to be in the top of anyone's rock album list.

I’m not sure I would listen to it all the time or play it at parties, but this is definitely an album that would blow your mind while listening alone on some high-quality headphones and reading the liner notes. This is an objectively amazing album and I completely understand why there are so many obsessed Rush fans.

I don't know what else I can hand to the discussion of this album. It's pretty highly regarded and literally saved the band from extinction. I loved playing the title track on Rock Band 3

This music is rock for nerds, and I mean that in a good way. Given a close listen, the album takes you on a narrative and musical trip. The skill of these musicians is top notch. In an alternate universe where rock music played the role of classical in the 1800s, Rush would be as well known as Beethoven.

Zepplin from Canada. Amazing album great songs.

An all-time classic - the album that really saw Rush coming into their own, and defining their sound for years to come. Opening with a 20-minute sci-fi epic about the oppressive Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, this is pure hard rock goodness.

One of my favorite albums of all time, glad they didnt cave to their record label and just made the album they wanted to.

his album is like being handed a sword by a wizard in a dystopian sci-fi library and being told, “Go fix art.” What it is: A 20-minute prog-rock epic about a guitar and a totalitarian future (and then some bonus tracks that honestly just want to be loved too). Neil Peart writes a whole Ayn Rand-inspired novella, and Geddy Lee sings it like he’s trying to summon the moon. Rating: 4.5/5 Short Review: This is not an album—it’s a rebellion set to drums. Favorite Track: “2112” (duh) – a 7-part suite that goes from meditative plucks to absolute face-melting glory. It’s the kind of music that makes you want to punch a robot priest.

One of the best Rush albums, the start with the Overture and all its parts is one of the best album starters, then comes A Passage To Bangkok and The Twilight Zone, which give the album its attitude and makes the listener experience different places, whether it be physical and mentally ethereal. The second half of the record with Lessons and then Tears take the listener to an introspective journey and bring the music to a slower pace, deep lyrics and sounds of another world; finally, the album ends with Something For Nothing which concludes with a release of everything you've felt through the record and lets it go with a final whisper. Love that it doesn't take that long to listen and it doesn't feel rushed, so it encapsulates everything it needs with these 6 songs.

Please rise for the Canadian national anthem. And.. stay there for 20 minutes. Some of the later tracks are hot or miss but it don't matter because the title track is 2112 outta ten. Space opera prog sensation??? Yes fucking please

Ahhh... Fourteen year-old me is very, very happy that fifty-three year-old me still loves this album. Three thumbs up!

Another banger 5 stars

I give this album 5 pentagrams of 5 pentagrams

Mind blowing

We love a triumphant concept album forged in the fires of outside pressures to do commercial material!! snap snap snap, great album!

I always find Side B a bit of a letdown compared to the epic title track. But 2112 is one of, if not the greatest piece of prog rock so it doesn't really matter. So great.

The first side of this album is phenomenal, especially the "Temples of Syrinx" portion of the medley. The second half of the album is a little weak in comparison, but "A Passage to Bangkok" was another highlight of the album.

★★★★★★★

goated duhhhh

Rush was my first concert and I have liked them ever since. Love the riffs and the vocals.

Big fan

very nice

The first side is pure orgasm. Second side is pretty decent too.

Excellent

You would expect an album like 2112 by Rush to be just the title track and the rest to be mediocre b sides(see: In A Gadda Da Vida), but A Passage to Bangkok starts off a B side that would be the A side of a lesser bands album. 2112 is rush firing on all cylinders.

Some Rush fans would argue that 2112 is the best Rush album ever. I would argue it is one of the best albums ever by any artist. A perfect combination of prog rock and hard rock, 2112 has the incredible, sweeping, expansive title suite (which took up the whole first half of the original album) that is then bolstered by an array of brilliant songs. My favorite is the adventurous and drug-oriented Passage to Bangkok. The Twilight Zone is more contemplative, Lessons Zepplinesque, Tears is sad and slow, while Something for Nothing is just classic Rush. Rush was always tight and incredibly talented but, on 2112, they were inspired. That said, 2112 is still firmly in their more prog rock style. That style carried over for the next few years into A Farewell to Kings and, the apotheosis of that era, Hemispheres. After that, the long suites such as 2112, Xanadu, and Trees disappeared in favor of the shorter hard rock pieces of Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures which came to dominate their albums, though not their concerts. If you came to Rush in the 1980s, 2112 will seem very different than what you're used to. So be it! It's still one of their finest albums and a truly great rock album.

5 - mastapiece even though side B doesn’t come close to matching side A

Hugely formative album for me.

Great album!!!

Iconic and legendary album.

I first heard this album in 1977 when I was in the Air Force. I only say that because if I had not been in the Air Force, I never would’ve heard it. I love it. I know very little about prog music so I’m not going to discuss the musicality or any of that. The 20 minute overture is the meat of the album and pretty much everything else is derived from that except Tears the required slow song.

4.5 Excellent introduction to 1001albumsgenerator!

Love it!!!

How much you enjoy Prog Rock will depend on whether you consider it ambitious or self-indulgent. But ultimately, 2112 is one of the best Prog Rock albums ever made, and captures the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. From the sprawling 2112 sequence to sharper, more concise cuts near the end of the album, Rush's elite musicianship is on full display, and the album production is fantastic.

Favorite: Something from Nothing and 2112: Overture/The temples of syrinx/discovery

I really liked it and I’ll probably listen to it many more times. I liked the lyrics, the vocals, and the instrumental. It’s a five.

The entire first side of the album is the piece, "2112"... in seven movements, they play the heck out of their instruments... and rock and groove in their inimitable way... you are either a fan of Geddy Lee's voice... or you are not... no in between... and some of the lyrics are a bit out there... "we are the priests... of the temple... of Syrinx"... what???? but, when you are playing complex music, it needs some, um, profound (?) lyrics i guess... anyway... this piece goes all over the place... and all the places are good... the bass playing the guitar, and yes, the drums... are epic... dare i say it... Zappa like... i bet Frank, might've been a fan... i don't know... "A Passage To Bangkok" starts side two... some great riffs by Alex Lifeson... rapid fire fills by Neil Peart, of course... the next songs are more of the same... then comes "Tears" a tender ballad sung well by Lee... his solo composition... sounding a lot like a Supertramp song and Roger Hodgson... the record ends with "Something For Nothing"... which starts out sweetly, and erupts into an epic closer... if you simply can't take Geddy's voice, you might not understand the reason... i give this record... Five Stars... despite the corny lyrics and goofy album cover...

Incredible album from this trio!!! The title track is an epic journey of sci-fi prog and instrumental mastery!! The other songs are more that filler and rock deliciously in their own right. A turning point in Rush's history. Must listen!!

I’ve yet to hear a bad song by Rush. I bought this album on CD after reading Ready Player One, so had it playing on loop for a good while in my car. The opening epic is such a banger, and travels through so many movements. Everything here, as far as I’m concerned, is fantastic. I’ve said it before, but Rush is as good as prog gets.

Awesom

I'm realizing I love Rush

loved it, the vocals were not my taste but as she put passion in her voice it’s still very good

Brilliant

> The Beatles

This was the first in the ‘golden period’ of, in my opinion, the 5 greatest Rush albums, between 1976 and 1981. Consecutively 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. Not that Fly By Night or Caress of Steel before those were in any way bad, or Power Windows after. (I don’t like to think about Signals or Grace Under Pressure too much. Geddy’s synth madness years). I haven’t listened to 2112 as recently as I’ve listened to Hemispheres (regularly) or Permanent Waves (often) - but that’s clearly been a mistake. 2112 (the track) is up there with Supper’s Ready as one of the greatest “longs” of all time. And I’d forgotten how much I liked the whole of side 2. And how many of the lyrics I could remember (pretty much all of them). Possibly the production isn’t as good as the later albums in that particular golden set, but this is the album that got me into Rush and for that it will always hold a place in my heart. 6

5 stars not enough

Got a list in my head of the Top 10 Progressive Rock albums ever. This album is on that list. Easy 5⭐️

Another Amazing Album! I had to listen to the remastered as that was all my music streamer had. Great songs! I definitely know why this is the most legendary and quintessential Canadian band ever.

The title of this record refers to my level of cognitive dissonance between my love for rush and my hatred of Neil Peart’s Randian bullshit on a scale of 1 to 10.

Love it.

One of the greatest albums ever made. From deep and thoughtful lyrics to amazing riffs and tempo changes, 2112 has it all. One of the most influential albums of my lifetime, and prog rock at its absolute best. 2112 is a must-listen, and I'm glad I was able to dive in again. 6 stars!

So this is what this whole Rush is about...

ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION. ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION. WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL. WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL. WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL. Liked Songs Added: 2112 A Passage To Bankok Something For Nothing

Bad ass!!!

I mean, what can you say, an album that launched 2112 legends !!🤟

One of the best albums ever let alone Rush

A little more interesting to me than Moving Pictures was. With that said, the first mega track tired me out the second time through it when I was almost exclusively focusing in on it with headphones over my ears. The rest of the tracks are fantastic. I could play them over and over again without fatigue. Twilight Zone avoided corniness, but was still very 70s. Lessons was something of a radio hit. And for those reasons, its a 5. Great fit for a weekend album

Crazy 20 min intro Temples of syrinx was awesome Overall I really enjoyed this album.

2112 Overture - 5/5 A Passage To Bangkok - 5/5 The Twilight Zone - 4/5 Lessons - 4/5 Tears - 4/5 Something From Nothing - 5/5 Average score: 4.5/5 (rounding up)

Man I always forget how good the b side is too, it's so overshadowed by the Overture especially but like damn these are some really good tracks

Have so much history with this album. First rush album I heard and been a big fan since then. Not listened to it from start to finish for many a year but side 1 is a brilliant blend of story and musicianship. Side 2 is more of a mixed bag but set the tone for the rest of their career. Not everyone's cup of tea but for me this is a builders tea with 2 sugars and a packet of chocolate digestives to go with it.

Hadn't listened to this album in about 15 years. Wow, I forgot how awesome it is! Listened to it twice :) :)

Side 1 is a solid 5 stars. Great comcept song with multi parts. Melodic and instrumentally virtuosic and catchy. Side 2 dips a little. Bangkok , twilight zone excellent tunes and lessons also good, tears is just ok. Something for nothing is very good as well. I will give this 5 stars. But a 5 star album should not have any mediocre tracks. If this was on a scale of 10 it would be a 9. I give it 4.6.

I love that Rush’s drug song is mostly just a geography lesson. These guys are nerds to the end. But these nerds can rock! The title track is one of the greatest songs of all time. The second half of the album, while not on theme with the first half, is still chock full of great tunes. In my opinion, they should have made 2112 its own album, or an EP, but it’s basically two albums. The first side is one long song that tells a story, and the second is other songs not related to the first. The only misstep for me is Tears. It doesn’t fit the flow of the second half and is kind of a snoozer. Other than that it’s a perfect album.

Rockin’

Another album that I’ve always loved and an absolute icon of progressive rock. The titular track (and entire A-side of the record) is incredible and doesn’t overstay a moment of its 20+ minute runtime. The B-side has always been interesting to me because it’s so hard to add songs to an album that seems to have already said everything it wants to say. Does Passage to Bangkok really add anything or even relate to 2112? No, probably not but it fucking rocks and is one of my favorite Rush songs. I don’t think it’s a perfectly balanced record but it’s an iconic one and I was so happy to revisit it. Best tracks are 2112 (obviously), Passage to Bangkok and Something for Nothing

5/5 for the title track alone

One of the best.

Holy FUCK

There are two 20 min songs i can listen to and not get tired of. This is one of them. For me personally it is a masterpiece that really feels like a 20 min journey. as someone who hates musicals this feels like what musicals should be. I don't like Ayn Rands philosophies (Peart's views evolved over time) but i feel that the text could be interpreted as just being about fascism. When you look how close we are to listen to AI music generated by companies in order to profit and cut the cost of music writer, we won't notice because we focus on the performers on social media and on events and concerts. That aside the song is very easy listened due to how it is segmented and is one of my favorite concept albums/songs. The rest of the album is pretty forgettable. passage to Bangkok and the twilight zone i remember. RIP Niel Peart

Epic. Notes and Notes and Notes.

I did not use a private Spotify session for this one. I have this somewhere on CD and used to have it on cassette as well. I love this album, the entire first half is an epic song and then the second half has a few more classics. How different and talented Rush was blew my mind and it still does.

Outstanding - and the meek shall inherit the Earth !

Was this album perfect? Yes.

This is peak "Dad Rock", and I love it. It's also peak "Prog Rock", which I also love. 2112 is an incredible song. Let's all remember too that classical music is all long as well with different movements, that's no different than this song! All you complaining about long songs should get better attention spans. There's so much to unpack in just this one song alone, which is obviously the highlight of this record. I can understand if you don't like Geddy Lee's voice, it took me a while too but I've gotten past it now because the music is just so well written (minus the guitar tuning part, why is that here? hahaha).

Could listen to Rush all day

One of the greatest rock operas ever made. First half is better than the second half, in my opinion. 9/10.

What an epic album. Love it. It's excellent.

2112 is an amazing album where side one is a sweeping dystopian fantasy about a world where music has been forbidden. It will knock your socks off even if you aren’t wearing any.

Banger

Amazing album

Overall: 9/10 Rush is one of my all time favourite bands. This isn't their best album in my opinion, but the title track is so epic and worth listening to on it's own. The second half of the album has some bangers as well, though they almost seem like an afterthought. It's insane that the (possibly) greatest drummer of all time was in the same band as the (possibly) greatest bassist of all time, it makes it hard to focus on just one of them! Geddy's vocals also sound awesome on this album, I know his voice can turn some people off but I love it. Alex is also no slouch on the guitar, his solos are a huge highlight for me. I'm sad that I never got to see these guys live. RIP Neal Peart. Fav Song: 2112 Least Fav Song: Lessons

Great music, never seen before

Powerhouses of prog rock. I absolutely love Rush and this album is an incredible example of why. The first track is such a journey. I love world it paints. Knowing that Rush was being pressured at this time to make their music more commercial gives it another layer of artistry and importance in my opinion. The integrity they had to push on and be as creative as they wanted is commendable. I understand that some people don't understand rock opera and can't appreciate it properly. Think about the story it's telling you! Appreciate some tasty licks! Think of it as 7 different songs if that helps, you'll be able to tell where one part ends and another begins pretty easily. The second side is pretty great as well. Tears probably being the weakest to me, a bit of a more meloncholy break. Still good. Brings it right back up with Something For Nothing though! A strong finish! A wonderful album through and through.

Fantastic Odyssey of prog rock, incredibly full and thoughtful instrumentation. Probably my favourite vocal performance from Geddy Lee.

Absolute perfection. Favorite songs: 2112, Something for Nothing, A Passage to Bangkok, Lessons, The Twilight Zone Least favorite songs: Tears 5/5

One of my favorite albums. 2112 lyrics are great, even if the source material (Ayn Rand) isn't my favorite. Discovery is a beautiful moment for me on this album. The B side is good, but I always comes back to 2112 for its title track.

One of the big sins of this list is genral lack of Rush albums. Over 1000 records and it's only a second one by the Canadian band? Blasphemy. As for the sound, Geddy Lee's vocal take some time to get used to, but after a while you just can't fanthom a different vocalist at all. Guitar solos and riffs are amazing as always, but the highlight lies in drumming. It's easy to miss it, but Neil Peart might be one of the greatest drummers in rock/metal history. Amazing band, great album.

Rush is one of the all time greatest bands. I need to get a new 2112 sticker for my car.

THE album from RUSH. Probably my favorite band & I've seen them live more than any other group. Easy 5 out of 5 for me.

Absolute stone cold classic

Peak dork music. Instrumentally phenomenal and lyrically ridiculous. I greatly enjoy Rush as a matter of personal bias and I will have beheaded anyone who dare insult the prophet Geddy Lee (PBUH).

This fucking rocked. Never heard of either the band or the album but MAN did it kickass. 100% putting this on rotation. The vocals, the sounds, the complete project was something I enjoyed from start to finish. 5/5 what more the say.

Loved it, first song went for 20mins. Great rifts and drums that seems to be the theme of 70s rock music

Really good prog Rock album

I love Rush.

I'm not much of a prog rock guy, but if you're gonna listen to it, you may as well listen to the best. Rush is undoubtedly a rock powerhouse and the best way I can describe their music is a musical journey through space. The 38 minute runtime is misleading, as it feels like a complete experience, and some of their better work comes after this!

The titular track is a prog rock epic from its first notes to its haunting final lines. The rest of the album is fun straight up rock and roll. It’s not Rush’s best album but it doesn’t deserve any less than a 5 in my eyes. Hoping we get a bunch more Rush on this list!

5 stars seems too high, but this was actually phenomenal to listen to from start to finish. Each track kinda slaps, even though I don't know any of these songs as being Rush hits. Even the first track, which is half of the album, was pretty good. They're noticably good at what they do.

First off, and I can't stress this enough: Fuck Ayn Rand! And fuck all the nazi broligarchs who worship her, currently dismantling the US government (check review date, YMMV). May they all rot in hell! This album has haunted my days since high school. The nerdy kids advertising themselves as targets by drawing the cover on bags, books, etc. Yet, I've hardly listened to it. Anthem is a stupid story on which to base a song suite. A good job that they did such a half-arsed job of it and turned it into a very daft thing. That said, the music is interesting and the playing is top-notch.

My favourite Rush album

Excellent album

it's like smoking a pot without the pot, instead the pot is filled with a super glue

Loved it. 20-minutes is too long for a song, but it was more like multiple songs grouped into one track. Found the little Asian tune in A Passage to Bangkok amusing.

beautiful prog

We are the priestsssssss of the temple

The buildup to this album is classic itself. Hey Rush, the prog rock album you just put out sucks but we'll give you one more chance to cut that out and prove yourselves. And what do they do? Put out a double album with a prog rock epic taking up side one. Granted side two contains shorter punchier songs more like you'd find on their first two albums and more like what their label wanted. But it's side one that truly made this album a success. It's weird, it's wonderful, it's twisting and turning, it's a full-on display of all the musical mastery that Lee, Lifeson, and Peart possessed. I'm not even a prog rock fan but I love it. And I also really like side two even if it's more commercial or more an ode to their early work. It still rocks, particularly A Passage to Bangkok and Something for Nothing. Why wasn't I listening to Rush as a kid? Great album.

RUUUUUUUUUSH!!!!! Love this album, particularly Side 1 of course. Yeah, it's got some cheese, but it's such a part of my musical journey I can easily overlook the cheese and just love it for what it is: awesome hard rock, technical skill, drama, etc. The label told them they needed a hit album after Caress of Steel, which included their first real attempt at a prog epic. So, instead of going back to basic rockers, they doubled down and created an uncompromising prog classic. It was their breakthrough album and let them chart their own course for the rest of their career. For me, I remember playing the 2112 Overture and The Temples of Syrinx with a band in high school. I remember yelling "HEY!!" with the audience at a dozen Rush concerts. I remember that 2112 was the first album I heard on CD and was blown away by the clarity (which is why I roll my eyes at all people who say vinyl is superior). And now, as a parent, I get to enjoy listening to it with my teens - once again, I swear I didn't force prog on them. Yeah, I know Geddy Lee's voice isn't for everyone, and he's full banshee on this album, but I'm forever a Rush fan. Super easy 5 for me.

Visions of rec rooms.

What an amazing album this is. The first side has one of the coolest and best prog epics on it. The entire album and story is super nerdy but feels really cool because of the hard rock sound. All 3 musicians play excellent and Geddy Lee's vocals, while taking a while to get used to, really fits the band. The second side has a bunch of great songs too, I really like A Passage to Bangkok with its oriental bells throughout. This album energises me like no other.

Title track was epic in the non cringe meaning of the term. B-side tracks are memorable and well produced. EZ4RUSH

Fantastic album 1001 album worthy: Yes - 48/85

One of the best albums from Rush. One of my favorite albums!

Was waiting for this album to come along. I would give it 5 stars for just the overture, even if the band pissed in a bucket for the rest of the album. But they don't. The second side doesn't quite stand up to the awesomeness of the first, but then that would be just about impossible. I hate to admit it, but usually when I play this album, I listen as far as the end of Passage to Bangkok and then stop. So it was fun to listen to the other tracks for once. They were actually better than I remembered.

I had no idea Rush was so hard. I have only listened to there mainstream music. This was a good listen.

Classic

Excellent album, very much a classic.

Living up to their name. A smorgasbord of rock, switching between Floyd-esque prog, Zep-style riffs, and even a Sabbathy detour into metal.

Great album by Rush. Definitely more progressive than previous works. It's not my go-to Rush album but it's surely among their greatest album and a showcase of their musical talent.

One of the first albums I ever bought after my parents gave me Rush ‘All the Worlds a Stage’ and the Beatles ‘Meet the Beatles’ as a 16 year old for Christmas. Got me ssoooooo into music. Lead me to finding and loving new bands to this day as a 62 year old.

Favourite tracks: overture; passage to bangkok

Perfect album! The best I heard by Rush.

groovy man

Rush is one of the greatest musical acts ever. 2112 is absolutely brilliant. It's not my personal favorite Rush (that would be Moving Pictures), but this is absolutely a masterpiece.

"2112" is a masterpiece of rock , side 2 is a decent collection. I can remember seeing Rush on The Old Grey Whistle Test back in 1976, and was blown away.

great hits. futuristic and weird at the same time

Rush - 2112 Not gonna lie, I was not expecting this album to go this hard... Not a single miss on the album, the title track may be one of the best things I heard as of now, just everything about is just great. This is perfect... 1.- 2112 = 10/10 2.- A Passage to Bangkok = 10/10 3.- The Twilight Zone = 9/10 4.- Lessons = 8/10 5.- Tears = 9/10 6.- Something for Nothing = 10/10 FINAL SCORE: 9.3/10

Amazing love it !!

Amazing album. All songs are perfect, still not their best album and would be anyones #1. Overture belongs to a museum as a masterpiece of modern music. Its long but it passes by real fast the transitions to next part are all insanely well done you can hardly tell.

My favorite Rush album, first of theirs I purchased ✊🏻

Moving Pictures the No 1 Rush album and this the No 2. Whichever way round it is this week they are both magnificent

This was the first Rush album I ever heard. My older brother played it for me and I remember being blown away by it. It was also my first concept album and I give it a listen from beginning to end at least annually since I first heard it.

This is the album that made me a lifetime Rush fan (as it did for Dave Grohl, as well, apparently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTz2TDr79eI). It just simply rocks!!

This kicks ass. Exactly what you want from a Rush album. IMO, a 20 min song is a bit much. But they change it up enough, that it stays interesting the whole time. Great album

9/10 Surprised me truly. Favourite Song=Tears Least Favourite Song=A Passage To Bangkok

Who doesn’t love a bunch of nerds playing their instruments at peak performance? Rush’s string of records from 2112 to Moving Pictures is about as good as you’re going to get when it comes to progressive rock. I know Geddy Lee’s voice doesn’t sit well with everyone, but Rush just wouldn’t be Rush without it. I, for one, find it iconic. Neil Peart and Alex Liefson are equally iconic. No one plays the skins like Peart and Lifeson is an underrated piece of the Rush trio. 4.5/5

I don't even need to listen back to it, but I'm going to anyway lol. 5/5 BANGER. I go see it every year in lasers at my planetarium. 38 minutes, tight album of which 2112 is 20 minutes of it. Doesn't feel that as all. There’s something here as strong as life!

4.7 - Woah this album is so much more than the previous one we had. Felt like it was trying to be less wanky and more just raw song writing

Feels nostagic even tho I wasnt even born in that era

This was really good, relaxing second track added to the move. Seemed like simpler music solution to complexities of back then.

This is the kind of 5* album that I can understand if you hate it.

2112– Rush– I had always heard that early Rush is the poor person’s Led Zepplin. While I can hear some licks and some vocals that are reminiscent of LZ, this album is more like what Rush would become. This album has a more dramatic presentation than later Rush, but that quality of musicals suits them. This will probably be my favorite album by Rush. 4.5/5

Super vet. Ik kende Rush nog niet echt, maar ik ben hooked!

One of their best albums

Truly genius album. The first song is such a masterpiece. If you like progressive music you have to give this album a listen.

The thing I like most about this album is the story behind its making. The band were about to be dropped from their label and were being pressured to produce a more “commercial” work. Instead, they kept doing their thing and came up with this masterpiece. Even people I know who don’t like Rush will admit their talent is extraordinary. Peart was second to none behind the drums!

I love Rush. This isn't my favorite album of theirs, but I do love it and it's their breakthrough album. Forever grateful to it in that regard. Also, the more I listen to Alex's guitar work, the more I'm impressed with it. I was always enamored with the rhythm section, but he's definitely an underrated guitarist. I don't think there's ever been a band with this much concentrated talent.

Ja genieten

Six stars if I could.

another prog album that takes its listeners on a ride across the world, including time and space. this album is surreal and fantastic, the first track being a 20 minute suite. dealing with emotional journeys, tribulations, and literally going across who knows where, this album is a prog masterpiece, nothing else more needed than that. it'll resonate with a lot of listeners, it did for me, and i'm sure it does to plenty of others.

An absolute banger, my first encounter with Rush, my mind was blown away

After Geddy Lee says "and the meek shall inherit the earth" there's a couple of bars consisting of pure elite riff. Then Neil Peart comes in with possibly one of the greatest fills ever put on record. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

One of the best prog rock albums of all time.

One of their best albums

2112 was an absolute beast of an album. It was always hard, heavy, fast and melodic throughout all 6 of it's songs (the first track is three tracks combined into one, just so you know). The vocals and lyrics were very great parts of the album but for me, it was the music that stole the show with it being everything i described above. And there isn't a single song that's not great because the greatness carried over from each and every song all the way to the very end. In fact, i don't think there really is a flaw i can even mention, this album is genuinely excellent. Best Song: Tears Worst Song: The Twilight Zone

I have been waiting for this album since I started the project! Rush is my favorite band and this is my favorite album. It showcases their musical virtuosity, high concept lyrics and storytelling, and it’s still a banger by today’s standards. Each is a master of their respective instrument, and the sum is more than each part. Quite possibly the easiest 5 star review I’ve given. 5⭐️

I wanted to like the 1st track multiple times, and unable to cause it was the same track! 🔥

Oh yeah!
