Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Nice and gentle and sonorous and not at all for me thank you very much.

Not my favorite type of music but I understand the appeal. Good for background music. Probably will not listen again unless a special circumstance arises.

El Paso is a fantastic song. More of the same on the rest of the album. Not really my style though.

trotos

El Paso on kyllä hyvä.

Third slice of pure Americana thrown my way in this project. Can’t say it’s growing on me but this wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard either.

I'm not very into country music, but if someday I need some ballad for a gunfight, I'm sure that now I know where to look for it.

High highs, but guitar story telling gets a little old after a while.

noise vomit.... hehe i kid just not for me, howdy!

Not my thing. I’m sure it was a bop 65 years ago.

Fine - not my sort of thing. Exactly what you’d expect from the album name and cover.

I don’t hate this album. It just isn’t for me. I can recognize the artistry of its time and Marty is great at his craft. The time in which this album came out saw country music as a great means of storytelling and this album delivers on that. Some fantastic harmonies and for its time, great production value. I can’t tank the ratings because it doesn’t speak to me but I can’t give it high marks on a personal level because I just don’t feel like it is right to give a high rating on something you aren’t drawn to just for the respect of its artist. I wish I could give a 2.75. Just dropping it below the 3 mark cause I respect it but again, not for me.

I don't exactly know why American culture is so obsessed with cowboys and Manifest Destiny, but it is, and this album epitomizes both. I've never heard of Marty Robbins and I've never heard any of these songs but I see the through line from this to modern country and some pop crossovers (looking at you, Sting). The voice is beautiful but the songs idolize terrible acts.

Simple and fun

Not for me

Country isn't really my genre but I did appreciate the quality of voice and the storytelling in the music initially. However, to me there wasn't much of variation in the songs and after listening to 5 tracks I lost interest. 2*

Good album. I liked his voice and the stories but as I wouldn’t listen to it again it has to be a 2 from me.

With it titled Gunfighters ballads I was expecting a slightly more grand bigger aggressive sound. However what I did get was a very easy listening honky-tonk genre. None of the tracks really jumped out at me, but there is no questioning Marty Robbins talent and his vocal range

Not my cup of tea

His voice is pleasant actually and the music is pleasant enough, but after a couple of songs it just gets boring.

It's really similar to songs that are played often where I'm from, and I barely like those

El Paso - They definitely killed him for yoinking that horse and not for shooting the dude Big Iron carries this.

That’s a no for me dawg

Like a boring Western soundtrack. Every song just sounded like I left a Western movie or TV show from 60 to 70 years ago playing in the background. There’s an audience for this music, and most likely people who think Gangsta Rap is too violent and black.

Great story telling. Was probably a fantastic album by 1959 standards. But every song quite literally is the same song with different lyrics. Would not listen again

If you like twangy, old time country this is the album for you

Favourite song - Big iron

2 stars only because country isnt my type.

A pleasant voice but you don't get the same feels as you get from other country voices like Patsy Cline or Johnny Cash. I personally don't find the stories that interesting either.

Country, 1959 -> 2

Ah, I wanted to like it more. Some of the songs are really oddly overwritten (looking at you, Utah Carol), and he sings every song the in the exact same tone, never mind if the protagonist is about to be hanged or in love. Prefer my cowboy songs with a bit more edge.

How did he make those songs boring?

Does exactly what it says on the tin

Country guy, western type songs seem to be bread and butter - first track slapped then fell off

Kind of a novelty album. I have seen this being restocked at my local record store almost weekly, so it is obviously popular. It was fun, but a little too repetitive. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again.

Feel like I listened to the same song 15 times.

I have never been a country western music fan. At all. Despite that, I enjoyed the story telling and Marty’s vocals. I can certainly tell how he influenced many future performers and appreciate the significance of this album and genre. Solid work, but not my jam.

There’s a couple of great tracks here but the rest just falls flat to me. 2.5 stars.

Big Iron isn't bad for what it is (traditional country) Not really my genre but clearly important. Odd that it didn't go platinum until 1986 though. El Paso is also fine and culturally classic obviously. I skipped about half of this because I just really dont like that old school country, so Im giving it 2 stars but really its 2.5

Old school country music. Some of the more tolerable country to be honest, but still not my thing.

kinda disappointed, big iron is a classic, the rest is ok NNN

Ha, delightful. I'd never have found this in a million years. Such a time where riding horses, pining after women, being hung for murder, and shooting folk were the common language of being a man. So, let's make a song or 12 about it. Thanks. I'm now a bit more aware of where Johnny Cash came from, and Leonard Cohen, and perhaps even k d lang. Three stars. Two? It could be two. Let's go two. It was nice but not really nice.

Music for little boys and kitsch honky tonks in the 1950s. It just feels cheap, vaudevillian, and plastic, with its plot-driven lyrics and literal cowboy chords. The best songs are Robbins’ original material (mainly the singles), with a good rendition or two here and there, but that’s not high praise. For the most part, there’s very little variation on this thing. Both sonically and thematically. What you see is what you get; if you want cowboy country, then you’ll be more than happy, but I think the audience for that is basically nonexistent. Gunfighter Ballads is ultimately a trivial record, elevated mainly by its age and critical praise. It seems like most of the adoration around it is tied to the singles and the idea that country “used to be good,” so obviously this old album with a good critical track record falls into that nostalgic interpretation too, right? In reality, it’s kitsch. Sometimes kitsch can be good, but this is far from camp. It was meant to be forgotten, and in a week, I’ll definitely have forgotten that I ever listened to it.

Gothboy shit right here. Not bad but fuck me are all these lyrics depressing. Does feel like I'm just listening to the same kinda song over and over again. Great voice, don't makem like they used to i guess. 2/5.

This album was better than I was bracing myself for it to be. I thought it would be very hokey patriotic country nonsense. Instead, it was sometimes interesting and often catchy. I can definitely see how it was culturally significant. That being said, will I listen to this one again? Probably not, because it's not a genre style that really does much for me.

Did you ever hear the Gilligan's island theme song and say "Wow, this is a great song but if only this was 2 hours long and about Texas instead!?!" If so, this is the album for you, and it can be all yours for the low, low price of all of your self-respect.

Funny Country stuff, cant Listen for more than 20 mins.

Old school country story-telling. Fine if you like that sort of thing, which I don't really

Repetitive. Did remind me a little of the background music of the old television show, Gunsmoke.

Happy songs about people being shot, domestic violence, and being stampeded to death

Took me a while to get through but wasn’t bad. El Paso is nice

Eh paid is the only song I liked

2.5⭐ The thing I love about country music is how often the songs are just fun stories about chasing baddies and riding cool horses. Sometimes the songs are about shooting women though so ya know... Not my thing usually, but I can't deny that I enjoyed listening.

Super not my thing. I find westerns to be painfully trite and the music here is equally repetitive. It’s someone’s thing, but it’s not mine.

Cowboy songs

yee-haw

6/7/24 wasn’t expecting to enjoy this but not bad. good background noise. starts off with the classic “big iron on his hip.” most of these albums so far have been “oh so that’s where this song is from.” pretty neat 4/10

Lots of stories of lonesome men, grief and a certain degree of idiocy. Not a whole lot of musical variety.

I'm happy to believe this is as good as the genre gets, but unfortunatly it's not a genre that particularly excites me. It's fine, but I can't imagine I'm going to want to listen to it again.

thank god i wasn’t consuming music in 1959

As soon as I listened the kind of music in this album, I was like "Oh, let's see which is the song I know from a movie or whatever". That moment never came.

Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs is twee as all hell, it's alright at times and forgettable at others, and the most interesting songs sound like inferior versions of stuff that Gene Pitney did a few years later that I far prefer. Give it a 2.

This is fine, gets up to good in places but feels like that it's mostly on the list because it's really old. He's got a nice voice, there's the occasional good lyric, but it's so simple in terms of structure (both storytelling and musically) that it's hard to give it any more than a 2/5.

Lieder aus einer anderen Zeit.

I do not like the genre, so I had low hopes for this album. I recognised the first song from Fallout, but other than that slight joy from recognition, I was right in having low hopes. I think people who like country music will probably enjoy it. It sounds like country music, but that's not for me.

I didn’t mind this and would probably give it a 2.5 if I could. All the songs sound similar, only a few stood out to me.

This is okay but I have heard many other versions of these songs that I prefer over the ones performed by Marty Robbins here. But as a collection of ballads and trail songs it's not bad, just kind of mid and melodically monotonous.

Fun Cowboy ballads. Smooth crooning voice like Roy Orbison or Elvis Presley. The Strawberry Roan (horse song, but sounds like swearing each time he sings "buck") El Paso

Good album, very cohesive for its time, but only a couple of songs clicked with me.

Fucking everybody in these stories is armed to the teeth. They love their hip iron. Musically, pretty boring, but nice enough. The stories are okay haha

Zoals in the Little Green Valley. 6,5/10 Highlights The Strawberry Roan The Masters Call

Too old-fashion for me

Mad. I thought 'cool water' was a Coen brothers' parody; but here it is, without a hint of (big) irony. It's kind of great but more of a curio than a real repeat listen.

sure this was wonderful for its time...

he knows how to tell a story in song, but all of the songs start to sound about the same at some point. He does have an impressive voice.

Gear: Grado Hemp Mix: YEEEEHAAW Musik: Wow. Das ist (fast) unironisch cool. Aber immer noch Country. Wertung: 🤠🤠(🤠)/5

Country and western with the emphasis on western. An album that's almost as old as me. Some of the tracks, such as "Cool Water" are vaguely familiar from my childhood when cowboy movies were all the rage.

Big Iron is lively and fast paced but it's mostly followed by a collection of - appropriately - ballads which all blend together. If I had to pick one, The Master's Call is it.

Too western for my liking

I'll certainly never listen to this again, but that's the case with pretty much anything released before 1965 or so. I thought this was largely pretty good for what it was. 2.5.

From country rock to a full on country album.... Well... At least this isn't as bad ad country rock. But if anything, this list has really established my disliking for country. I give this a 2 for the storytelling and big iron

NOT FOR ME!!!! NOT MADE WITH YA GIRL ON MIND!!

Repetitive

I liked the storytelling aspect.

Big iron on his hip

I can't give something so simple a high rating. As previously stated I'm not a big country guy but this is ok. Another good background album El Paso is the standout.

Overall -apparently this is culturally significant and in the library of congress -this is not for me -I mean is good poetry but I could fall asleep -it all sounds the same to me. I mean the guitar melody’s are pretty but this is hard to get through

If there was such a thing as emo cowboys this would be THEIR guy. He's such a sad boy- I think that's what people must like about him because it definitely can't be the music. I got excited with the first song Big Iron that I might have pre-judged this album- time makes fools of us all. The Valley, The Little Green Valley, it all sounds the same. This album really dragged for me.

Needs more cowbell.

The Good: Dude was a NASCAR driver! Music has a distinctive Western flair. Unapologetically narrative songwriting ... The Bad: ...almost to a fault. A cool anthology of short stories, but doesn't really land in the medium. Instrumentation wears out its welcome. I won't mind hearing these on their own once in a while, but together they're repetitive as hell. The Ugly: His political views 😬 Favorite track: In The Valley

Cool klassisk cowboymusik. Känner igen en del från film. Inte alls min grej att lyssna på.

This seems like an album my parents might have owned, even though they weren’t country fans at all. This seems more balladeer-ish, so they might have liked it — Perry Como with a twangy guitar. I quite like his voice but too many of the songs sound the same to me.

Great period piece but not one I’d listen to at length.

Really dull. Nothing else much to say other than that. It is just a long ass cowboy album with nothing truly that substantial to enjoy in the whole play time.

Nostalgic, but not my thing.

Naja, wem's gefällt ... Mir nicht! Vote 2

Country balades are fine, I can heard a couple of them, but not a full album

I was really anticipating that I wouldn't enjoy this album at all, but I was pleasantly surprised with how catchy most of the songs are. I've never heard of Marty Robbins before and I was very impressed with his vocals...great singer. He tells great stories too (which is impressive because I'm not the biggest lyrics guy). The backing vocals and harmonies were delightful too! AND I finally know where a song that my Pap would sing when I was younger comes from - the great El Paso. My favorite songs: Big Iron, A Hundred And Sixty Acres, El Paso, The Master's Call.

Old El Paso

Not my type of music at all but I can appreciate it for its time and it was easier on the ear than some I've listened to. I could imagine Elvis singing one or two of these tracks.

Probably good for its genre. Not into it.

Nice country ballads

It's not bad, but it's uninteresting. It's Johnny Cash without the great voice. I think there's other old country music that belongs on the list more, like Chet Atkins or Jerry Reed, who didn’t make it. Favorite song: I don't really care. I lost interest after 2 songs. I did finish playing it, but it didn't register.

Not my taste…

I can see that this established a genre, but I think we all need to get over the myth of the cowboy gunslinger

Not particularly enjoyable.

Best Song: El Paso. Love me a storytelling song. Worst Song: Saddle Tramp. I might have disliked this one just because I had reached my saturation point on cowboys. Overall: Sure it was annoying when it started, but by the end of the album my leg was kinda jangling and I could imagine myself attending a jamboree. The album's definitely too denim to authentically enjoy, but as almost a parody of itself it kind of slaps.

I have absolutely no idea how to rate this album. It's so outside of the realm of music that I've been exposed to that I barely know what I'm listening to. I'll tell you one thing, though: it's fucking violent. All the old people that cry about hip hop music -- this is an entire album dedicated to shooting people! Hanging Me Tonight is a story about a dude that murders his ex-girlfriend and her new man in cold blood. There's an ode to Billy the Kid, a notorious murderer; a serial killer feted in Big Iron; and is chock full of stories that glorify the robbing, killing, and all-around depravity of the thug life. Marty Robbins is about that life. Who knew?

Seems like an important album but it’s not something I’m going to seek out again.

Soft Elvis.

I genuinely do enjoy country but every country album on this list has just been so old and sleepy and drawling and doesn't resonate with me at all Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs," released in 1959, is a concept album that attempts to capture the spirit of the Wild West. While Robbins' storytelling in tracks like "El Paso" is vivid, the album can feel overly dramatic and formulaic in its portrayal of cowboy narratives. The repetitive themes and musical arrangements may wear thin for some listeners. Despite its historical significance, the album's adherence to Western clichés can make it seem dated. While it has moments of charm, "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" earns a modest 2/5 for its somewhat formulaic approach and potential lack of broader appeal.

The wild west was so romantic and violent. Or romanticized? Surely it was just like Marty Robbins and western movies made it sound, right?

De cover zegt alles wel

I’m sure my dad has this on vinyl. Reminds me of home. And for some reason I have a soft spot for westerns and Texas music.

country AF

Not for me.

I think this is an interesting artifact that probably deserves to be on the list, if the list is about mapping out the evolution of modern music. But it's too damn cheesy as almost all fifties music is. Just doesn't feel like it has a soul. Probably influenced Johnny Cash, though?

Ja opzich wel cute

Folksy but not my style. It’s just too old. Can’t think of a time I would want to actually listen to this

Weirdest genre ever. El Paso is a bop though.

Track 1 and El Paso. Not my vibe but I got into it.

I can’t imagine the world in which this a popular album. House wives at home listening to Marty Robbins croon about his big gun. I’ll give Robbins some credit, he’s got a great voice and tells vivid stories. This album is a time capsule of a different world, one I can’t relate to in anyway and I don’t want to. 4.1/10

Not my atyle

1959. Classic country. It's okay; a few good tracks but mostly repetitive and uninteresting.

Roots of country music. Western ballads. Not my thing but enjoyed the south of the border flair.

I think it's ok if we forget this album.

Of its time. The Artistry is undeniable but not sure I’ll ever listen again

Cowboy cosplay music. When you think about it, this is kind of like a band nowadays writing songs about the second world war.

Simple tunes, enjoyable. If ever I’m working on a dude ranch I’ll put on these tunes…otherwise probably won’t listen again.

yeehaw and howdy shit

ehhh. Better than I thought, but still not great. 2

I can see its influence on country/western music, soundtracks, and even folk music. I just wanted a minor chord or two and something other than ‘notches on .44s’ as imagery.

Some good songs and he's got a great voice but not my style.

Music of a time and place, and not one that I am particularly connected to or interested in.

Good storytelling but not something I would listen to

Again, not a huge country fan. It was fine -- feel indifferent to what I listened to. I liked Big Iron and the beginning to Utah Carol. I was hoping The Hanging Tree would sound more like that one from Hunger Games lol. It was NOT. It's pretty happy sounding music when they are talking about hangings.

Big Iron was good.

Heard a lot of early rock and roll elements - but just not my style.

more murder ballads to add to the collection. this album is best when it leans into the campiness of western and worst when just retreading country tunes. best tracks: big iron (obviously), the master's call, el paso

Yeah idk man, sounded kinda racist. I wouldn’t seek this out but I was surprised by how many songs I knew on it.

Probably groundbreaking stuff that now sounds generic

I'm not one of those anti-country music people, I'm really not! But this was just a little bit too hokey for me. And like, Marty Robbins is just some guy from the suburbs of Phoenix. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with writing as a character, and to his credit he did actually write a few of these tracks, but I found neither the songs nor his performance of them to be remarkable. The important point is: why did I need to listen to this before I die? Why is it really necessary?

This is some Cowboy stuff! Wild West! I love how big storytelling was in music back during this time. It's a bit...depressing. It's objectively good and interesting, but not for me I don't think...at least not now. Notable Songs - Big Iron 3/10

Nice 50s sound that's brought down by the cowboy theme which cheapens listenability. A sad yeehaw.

extra point for the cool big Iron song, some of it's nice soft story telling song, still country though. 2

My first experience of him. Good old country music. Not my cup of tea but not unlistenable

This would be a great soundtrack to fallout 4. Quite dragging but chilled really.

There are some decent songs peppered in this album, "Big Iron" being the best, but "They're Hanging Me Tonight", "El Paso", and "The Master's Calling" stick out as great tracks too. What bogs this album down for me is how generic country the other songs sounded.

I already owned this having bought it on a road trip in the states. I thought it was tragically hilarious then, and tragically misogynistically hilarious now.

irraaaaaaaa

Old school country fetishizing the Old West? Pass.

A country & western album that mostly steps in the western spheres. It just makes me want to play Fallout New Vegas again, with the radio off on my pipboy.

This music doesn't bother me, but it just all starts to sound the same. A couple of songs sounded interesting at first, but then didn't really go anywhere.

Not my thang but was very nice sounding

говно

This is just too country for me, the lyrics are gently amusing with the passage of time but really it's novelty stuff.

Being a Grateful Dead I've heard El Paso played to the point of death by Bob Weir. Marty Robbins music is obviously \quite date even for the 1950s but I still find it a fun to listen to maybe every 10 years or so. Biggest compliant is the songs are so similar so it's a bit tedious by the end.

It's fine for a song or three. Not the worst country music I've heard. But damn, it gets super repetitive for a whole album. I didn't realize this was a real album people listened to. It gets posted like a meme to vinyl collector boards like Herb Albert's Whipped Cream and Other Delights all the time.

Pretty 1 dimensional. Well made but not my cup of thea

2/5 cowboys yeeehhaawww

On the plus side, the musicians on these songs are simply outstanding. The singer; Robbins himself, has a beautiful voice, like Elvis in his lower register. On the minus side, the songs are rather tedious. The singer takes even the corniest of them completely seriously. And there are some really corny songs here. I am not much of a fan of this style of country, or western, whatever this is. Nice performance of very boring, corny tunes.

Not recommended. Not terrible

Fun and kitschy 50s music. A real blast from the past.

The album title turned me off. I could envision listening to one or two of these songs in a film. Listening to this entire album was totally unenjoyable.

Great literal lyrics, takes my mind back to Spagetti westerns. Some lyrics have not aged well.

Not something I would ordinarily listen to. This one definitely puts the Western into Country and Western.

1 or 2 songs I liked, the rest is country

Awful American lyrics. Too gringo, too macho, smooth voice. Would not listen again.

What I expect the music in a nursing home to sound like.

This album reminds me of something my grandma would play or sing when we were around. It made me nostalgic, but it was just okay. After the first couple of songs they all sort of blurred together.

Not a fan of country western music. They're Hanging Me Tonight has a really nice melody that I enjoyed but everything else was not for me.

Old time country story songs. El Paso is a classic country standard.

Why is this on the list?

He has a nice smooth voice, and I always love some highly utilized backup vocals. Definitely not something I want to listen to for 45 minutes, but it's a nice nostalgic feeling album.

Obviously, it's very competent. Simple with nice vocal harmonies. But this all-American Christian gunfighter hoakum is so dated and ridiculous, it is unbearable. Sensible gun reform now!

Its from a far more basic time and its simplistic song writing is unrelenting

Reminded me of watching John Wayne movies with my Nan. Not offensive but also seems very much from another time.

I thought I would hate this, then warmed to it after the first few tracks, before thinking meh towards the final third. It's a little too twee, a little too thigh-slapping. Plus I find it hard to enjoy an album that is all about guns. It has some romantic imagery, but I suspect it tells the story of a world that never really existed.

I can see why it's on this list since it is just quintessential western music that is well done. A few songs are unique enough to make an impression but for the most part they kind of just mesh together. 4/10

Very much of its time. Quite tame fireside croonsome Americana. Not exactly Murder Ballads by Nick Cave!

Boomer cowboy songs for wanna-be cowboy boomers

This is OK for what it is but it's too dated for me really. I know I'd never choose to listen to it.

Extremely not my thing. Only made it like two tracks.

Very county and western, very yeehaw, very dated, very much not my thing

11th February 2022 Started while making up the front room for Caroline, Ian etc but didn’t finish until Monday morning. I like the storytelling element, musically simple but the vocals are lovely. And without albums like this we wouldn’t have Springsteen.

Fine enough when you’re watching a western, but not something I’d choose to put on

Yehawn! 🥱 It's alright if you like this sort of thing, for me it was a one-way ticket to Yawnville. Slept great last night, thanks for asking.

I like Big Iron. It has that railroad rhythm I associate with Johnny Cash. 160 Acres does less for me. It stays pretty samey from here. I realise judging a record from over 60 years ago is unfair. It passed pleasantly enough, but cowboy country has been run dry hence

Guns and roses, the wild wild west. Love, dust, prisons and Mexican girls. What country was.

BIG IRON ON HIS HIP

Nearly didn’t bother listening based on the cover, but some ok songs on it

A relatively short album. I don't think I was familiar with any of the songs but that makes sense because I don't travel the trails and I am not a gunslinger.

Quality vocals, and about as country/western as you can get, but sounds ancient now. Mostly because it is.

Konnte ich relativ uninteressiert weghören.

ok this isn’t my music taste at all. i wasn’t offended by it but i wouldn’t understand why people would listen to this over other albums. it was not horrifying but not good.

I tried, not my thing

started off really well but got stupidly repetitive after a few songs.

Is it still cultural appropriation if you take something super white and make it even whiter? This guy is about as close to being a cowboy as I am to being an Olympic gymnast. Kidding aside, I know a lot of these Marty Robbins songs - so that's saying something. He has a great voice and this is iconic early Country/Western music - classic storytelling. I just can't get over how inauthentic it is. It's like he dressed up in a 6-year-old's Halloween costume and wrote songs about his favorite stories from one of those old radio shows.

Hetken sai hauskoja Django-fiboja, mutta kovin nopeesti kävi ärsyttäväksi cowboy-ulinaksi...

Ei ihan lähteny tää rallattelu. Varmasti sopii elokuviin yhden kahden kappaleen verran ja menisi kivuttomasti, mut en mä tästä innostunut mitenkään

This guy talks more about guns than some rappers. Some clever lines here and there, but it’s the same 3 musical schemes over and over again. Tells many tall tales. How does this guy have the time to do all the things he claims he’s done. It’s fine. Sound like camp songs.

It's.... what you would expect...

As soon as I saw the album art and the title of this record, I knew I was in for the opposite of a treat. I don't care for this kind of music at all, but I approached it with an open mind. To be fair, it's not that bad for what it is. If you're into the old country/western style, this is definitely for you. Personally, I can't stand it, but I can appreciate the musicianship.

I've heard this music mimicked and parodied throughout my life. It's like stepping into an old TV show. This album is a fun time but nothing that I really take that seriously or will revisit

È repubblicano anticomunista altrimenti era un 3

Good crooning voice but doesn't stick. 2

couldn't finish

It is what it is - generic cowboy tale country music, very very repetitive overall

I’m not into the cowboy aesthetic. 4

Ok but just not my thing

Uhm.... I dont feel i should score this as its like its dutch and i only speak english but as i have to i will give 2. Sorry marty

boring. like listen to cowboy stories

Old country not really my thing

BIG IRON ON HIS HIIIIP

Big Iron is a country classic for sure. However, I found the rest of the album to be rehash after rehash of the same thing. It was OK, but only one great track.

THE BIG IROOOOON ON HIS HIIIIIIIIIIIP <3<3<3<3<3

Not a bad listen. A bit too western for me, I don't think I'd listen to the whole album again unless I was in the right mood. But an enjoyable experience. Some songs sound a bit samey. Highlights = Big Iron, El Paso Lowlights = Quite a few.

Interesting timepiece but not one I'll go back to

Amazed that some of the songs weren't too bad (a couple were actually good). But still, not my kind of thing.

This album told full stories in song, which is cool. Solid song writing, nice tunes, good musicians. A bit boring and one note. What was the state of music that musicians were just playin’ western genre albums? At the cocktail party, “yeah, put on Marty Robbins, let’s hear us some westerns!” Hangin’ Tree followed by Saddle Tramp, LOL. 2 stars.

Gotta love the title of this album not to mention the cover. I have a fantasy based interest in the era where people wrote songs about gunslingers so I was a little excited to see a whole album seemingly on point. Alas, this album has convinced me to let the fantasy go. I just couldn't get into it. +1 for the cover

Likely a racist fuckhead but I love his voice. I wish these songs were about anything else.

Hyvä ääni mutta aikalailla saman toistoa. Laulujen tarinat toki vaihtelee ja varmasti olisi mielellään laulujen muodossa tätä tarinointia kuunnellut, jos mies olisi istahtanut kitaran kanssa leirinuotion ääreen. Mutta ei niinkään näin työnteon taustalla. Tuottelias kaveri. Yli 50 äänitettyä studiolevyä ja yli 30 ajettua Nascar-kisaa.

Leppoisia länkkärilauluja, mutta ei mitenkään erityisiä. Tällaista karjapaimenet varmaan entisaikoihin kuuntelivat walkmaneistaan matkatessaan preerian poikki.

country. Very monotonous.

Pretty old western sound. I only listened to like two songs because I got busy but basically.. I just don't care. Sorry to Nicholas Cage/John Cusak cowboy on the cover.

El Paso was nice for the novelty of listening to a ballad from a byegone era. But listening to 13 other songs that sound virtually identical to it gets old pretty fast

Album cover 10/10

Great story telling but not for me.

Yer da rang said he loves it

I’m sure it’s a good version of what this is. But it ain’t for me.

I think this is really good for what it is. And the F- bomb like it's nothing too. I want to meet this man, in life or after it.

What the actual fk was that

Just an outdated album. Nothing pops out

No my thing

God no.

0/10 i couldn't even make it past song three before i felt like i was in temu calamity jane

Music and melody was very simplistic, so I found it pretty boring. Definitely more western than what I’m used to as country.

thank god music evolved i could not live having to listen to ts

maybe im just in a better mood but i dont mind this as much even though i dont really like the songs its chill still the albums too long for how repetitive every single song is. gave me a headache

NOT MY THING. FIRST ALBUM I HAVE BEEN TRULY BORED OF AND WAITING TO BE RID OF IT!!!

sentimenteel cowboy gezang

After Frank Sinatra yesterday, this app is starting to test my patience. 10 seconds each from the first two tracks is more than enough to assess. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ 20 seconds Revisit ❌️ Horrific ★☆☆☆☆ (2/10) Total reviewed : 261 Already owned : 60 Purchased : 15 To buy list : 1 Nope : 185

meh. some fun stories i guess.

Western is one of the worst genres to ever come out of the US. Listening to this was an excercise in pain, even if the lyrics weren't the most horrible thing to exist.

So pointless, so goofy. Blech

It’s ok

I really tried to give this a red hot go, but couldn’t really get into it

This album is a no for me. I listen to the first couple songs and I just couldn’t anymore.

It's fine for what it is. Can only take about one song though before I'm ready to switch

Yea this one's not something I enjoyed.

top 3 - Big Iron, Billy The Kid, Running Gun. Not for me. I like his voice though! Same for the stories.

this is definitely not my thing but funny little listen!! Kinda enjoyed They're Hanging Me Tonight.. confused that El Paso is both track 10 and track 15..... lol really thought The Hanging Tree was gonna be the song of the same name from The Hunger Games lol it was not.

There's outlaw country and there's this trollop.

dnf i do not like it

More cliches than the fleas on an ole hound dogs back. Not my thing, the American West myth and surrounding bollix.

Just no. I heard the one or two songs here that capture americana... but they just aren't worth the rest of the pretend glorified western BS.

Everyday when I wake up, this is the sort of album I hope doesn’t come up. I just don’t like this sort of thing. It’s repetitive and not something I would ever relate to. Marty’s voice was good but just not a fan.

Nah this is not for me. I feel like this belongs at Cracker Barrel or as a background song to an old western movie. An entire album was brutal to sit through. 3/10

Didn’t fancy so didn’t listen

Other than the fact that this kinda music makes me feel like I’m playing fallout (track 1 is actually featured on one of the games) I’m really not a fan. 16 short story’s about killing cowboys and/or being shot set over fairly forgettable western music.

No thanks.

Supringly mediocre

Ugh, the abundance of gun culture.

Bullshit

Terrible album. Just nothing to like. Mike Ness covered Big Iron and it’s a thousand times better. Every song was way over produced and there was too much added in. Also, the Grateful Dead covered El Paso a fair amount in concert and it’s always a skip for me.

Cheesy as fuck. 2.5 stars.

The instrumentation reminds me of mexican ballads but i dont like his voice.

Interesting, but no.

Eat shit and die

Howdy pilgrim… Fav:-

Pretty racist

moc kantry

Every song sounds like one continuous ballad because the singer is a one trick pony, and certainly doesn’t sound like he is or has ever been on any trail. Who ever put this list together wasn’t qualified
