Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Had listened to it already. Alright, not loving the Rod Stewart's voice.

I didn’t hate this, but hearing it for the first time in 2026 feels a little pointless. It’s absolutely great for what it is but what Faces do is absolutely catered for me elsewhere, so I wouldn’t revisit it. It’s executed well though, and I did enjoy it. They sound like a lot of bands that followed, which says a lot. Even though I missed the Faces boat, it’s apparent that many didn’t.

very basic rock

Vaikka bändi ja Rod on tuttuja, ei oo hirveästi tullut kuunneltua. Soitto on just sellaista mistä tykkään, mutta Rodin laulusoundi on hivenen liian rouheaa mulle. Aika tasapaksuja biisejä, ei jäänyt mitään erityistä mieleen.

NOTA: 2 musicas fav: YOU'RE SO RUDE, LOVE LIVES HERE

entretenido

I’d rather be listening to the Rolling StonesStones.

Me aburrió un toque, no sé si es malo necesariamente pero no tiene nada muy interesante para mostrar.

I feel this era and genre of music are wildly overrepresented in the 1001 albums. Unfortunately for me, I find this sort of music exceptionally boring and samey. 'That's all you need ' has some cool guitars and steel drums.

classic rock radio fodder. who give a shit

Pretty good, sort of boring. Good album to throw on but it didn't engage me too much.

This really isn’t for me. 𝘈 𝘕𝘰𝘥’𝘴 𝘈𝘴 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘈𝘴 𝘢 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘬… 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘉𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘦 has that loose, rowdy pub-rock energy, but the whole thing feels a bit too sloppy and unfocused to hold my attention. I can see the charm the band is going for, just not enough to make it work for me over a full album. And after a while, Rod Stewart’s voice starts to get on my nerves, which makes the album even harder to get into.

Is this a tweet by Donald Trump?

This is the sort of thing your gran has on vinyl; not awful but pretty boring

Mostly dumb rock bullshit but there were some cool riffs at times. Pre-Stones Ronnie Wood showed me more here than all of his tenure with that band. Not saying it was good, just slightly more interesting. I’m not a fan of Rod Stewart’s voice by any means, but if you have him why would you let the other guy sing any of the songs. It must have been his band. Rod’s voice sounds terrible trying to sing harmony. Pass.

A mostly forgettable album. Rod Stewart’s voice always sounded that way.

This was okay

Meh. The quality is all over the place, as in, truly differing sounds, and the tracks have no real depth.

Heard Before? Only "Stay With Me". Notes: - if Rod Stewart is in your band, why are you also trying to sing? Not that I've ever truly enjoyed a Rod Stewart song, but I'm amazed at how he sings them. - actually loved all the organ and piano parts (harpsichord on "Love Lives Here"!), but that's my usual jam. - tried to tune out all the wanky blues guitar, but again, that's my usual feeling. - awful lyrics, competent song structure. - production very typical of the era, which is, for me, a big plus. great sounding drums, good use of stereo, everything separated but not too dry. - side two really fell off for me. Verdict: It's classic rock, folks, no more no less. Great if that's your thing. Listen Again? I'll pass.

I mostly found this being from 1971 the most interesting part. Pretty bland, standard rock by today’s standards so didn’t resonate too much.

I’m not a big rod stewart fan, and actually I never knew he was apart of faces or who they were. So actually I’m glad this came up. Obviously stay with me is the hot track on here. But if I’m honest. It’s just music you’d have on in matalan or the range, it’s not really catching my attention in anyway shape or form. While I actually think it’s only rod Stewart’s voice that ruins this and the music is good, it’s still not helping knowing that

His voice was not for me sorry ;-; and the instrumentals were too repetitive for my taste. I wonder if I would prefer a remastered version?

more dull, misogynistic, white-man-singing-the-blues drivel for this list. awesome. favorites: stay with me

There was nothing wrong with this, I just found it boring.

Booooooooring as heck. Cool that Rod Stewart was in this band but damn there’s gotta be a million albums from the same era that sound exactly like this.

Listened. Unfortunately this record contains elements of Rod Stewart. Which is for me an immediate fail, can't get past it sorry. It’s somewhat irrational but very real, he takes that raw vocal style that someone like Otis does so well, removes all emotional nuance and control into something unbearable and grating. Otherwise it would be a pleasant entry into white Brits do RnB rock, Stewarts vocals just bug me to point can't hear the song, and Lane ain't no singer. A vocal record where can't listen to vocals is at best 2 Star

Stay with me Debris Love lives here

Not quite a 2, but def not 3

Too much boomer energy for me. I listened to Small Faces Ogden Nuts Gone Flake accidentally before this which was way sillier/had a distinctly British sound I found lacking from this facsimile of white trying to sound southern. I do love Rods voice

The Faces were celebrating or stealing music of black origin in this album, you decide. This album is not a direct honky-tonk blues album. But all of the elements are there: 12 bar blues in the bass, jangly piano and blues vocal from both Rod Stewart and Ronnie Lane. Add to this that "Memphis" was written by Rock and Roll legend Chuck Berry and I come back to my original question. When a band of white guys from London put out an album that is so heavily influenced by music of black origin, is it a celebration or is it stealing? I am inclined towards the latter. But I dont know if this is because I am not a Rod Stewart fan and I find the lyrics to this album leaning towards the misogynistic. Not that I haven't found albums of questionable gender equality enjoyable (See Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle). I just feel like Rod and the boys seem to display a sort of laughing contempt for the girls that they so want to sleep with and kick out of their life. I'm just not into it. (1.900)

Album 138. A Nod Is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse (https://open.spotify.com/album/3mvdHEE56sgj1NtTnTF8qK?si=hZ3ZBt1tRRajqhrhg1x_UQ) — Faces (1971) Wtf is the title of the album. Good, but pretty mediocre rock+blues. I enjoy listening to it, but it's definitely not enough to be added to my playlist 2/5 No liked songs

No thank you

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Doesn't feel essential. Stay With Me is decent. Did not need a 5 1/2 minute cover of Memphis.

- In 2025, "Stewart added that his long-time friendship with US President Donald Trump is on the rocks due to Trump’s support for Israel." Good, but he was friends with Epstein's best friend the whole time he has been raping people and eating babies, so... Also, he defied the BDS Israel boycott in 2017, keeps blaming only the PM for the genocide, and calling it a "war". Sounds like a liberal Zionist to me, so I'm boycotting until proved otherwise. - Also, he assaulted a security guard, punched him in the ribs, because he wouldn't let him and his family into a party. "Stewart even performed what appeared to be a Hitler salute with his right arm extended above his head while fingers of his left hand made a Hitler-style moustache." - Well, that was forgettable. - The instruments felt mashed together (other than the keys, and a few guitar riffs). Something about the levels of everything was off to me. Maybe it's just because nothing really stood out. - Rod's voice sounds hoarse and strained here. I don't hate his voice, typically, but maybe it's not strong enough to compete with the wall of instrumentation. - The other guy's voice sweeter, in general, and his songs felt more inviting (esp. Debris) instead of the paint-by-numbers blues of the others songs. - The lyrics were unremarkable, too. - The cover is the coolest part of the album to me. I like the font, and the composition of the photo is interesting (kind of hints at how mashed together everything is in the album, actually), and it's ironic that you can only see the band members' backs and almost no detail in the faces of the crowd - this on an album by a band named "faces", with the word "faces" at the top of it.

Pretty generic Brit Rock, nothing outstanding.

Rod steward being rod steward, but also some good classic rock riffs, an enjoyable album.

wava cota davyrudi

Rob Stewart singing on this album cannot save the mediocrity of this blues rock album, like this is just so borrrinnggg

Decent

Not very interesting. But I like the album title!

Great bluesy guitar riffs, nice growly singer voice, but the songwriting isn't compelling. I wanted to hear some clever lyrics or interesting caterwauling, but the songs themselves are unimaginative.

toujours de la country vibe mais un peu en mode rock

Nothing worth remembering.

Cool....

A bunch of uninteresting Americanisms. Sounds like the dudes just wanted to play around with riffs and melodies, and the lyrics were a completely afterthought. But even the melodies do not sound good or impressive.

I just don't think I enjoy Rod Stewart

I like his rough voice. It works with the instrumentals. He can even do a slow song and still make it sad and thoughtful

Rod Stewart has a raspy voice that works for some songs but not all. I never heard of the other singer. Don’t care to.

2.5 Wavering between 2.5-3. This is one of my least favorite genres, British white guys do the blues, but I like Faces more than some of those other bands, but I think ultimately I’m going 2.5 bc I don’t really have a desire to return to this in a significant way. Also, I like Rod Stewart (great voice!) but this is like the fourth Rod Stewart album on this list. Rod Stewart is not THAT important to the history of music. One entry is plenty!

Feels like a lot of effort to be this mediocre. How did this do anything influential? Surely this isn't anyone's favorite; it's so forgettable and formulaic. Just so...forgettable. Good, but nothing about this stands out whatsoever. The whole first part of it's description on wiki is that it came after a better solo song by the singer

Decent folk rock, some strong songs but some slow burns I feel.

2.5 kinda forgettable

para ser 36 minutos se me han hecho eternos, no veas

Favorite Track: That's All You Need

This kind of raw rambling bluesy rock doesn’t excite me. Since Stay With Me is probably the best thing on this album that’s not necessarily a good thing, considering how many much better songs Rod Stewart wrote. Mediocre.

Love the Small Faces. But the Faces...rod Stewart...hmmm. nope

I had no idea Rod Stewart was ever in a band, so this one snuck up on me. It felt like Rod Stewart put together a band and tried to do George Thorogood. I'm not going to say it was a bad album, because I found myself getting into a couple of songs, but there was nothing that made me want to come back to it. My rating: 2/5 blind horses

Nytt band for meg. Boogie rock (en form for blues rock). Rod Stewart som frontmann. Fremstår solid, men ordinært. Stay With Me er den soleklare eneren her, og den eneste sangen som er VIRKELIG god. Skal innrømme at jeg strevde litt med å finne tredjevalget til top 3. Ikke så mye mer å tilføye, utover det. Top 3: Stay With Me, Debris, Love Lives Here

Play Maggie Mae

A couple of good songs but nothing else stood out and felt a bit flat.

The voice reminds me of Rod Stewart

A shame the strongest track Stay with me was spoilt with orchestration. Otherwise generic.

Tough to choose between high 2 and a low 3 for me, genuinely enjoyed a couple of tracks but disliked the stomping ones and often disliked the vocals, going to settle on a high 2

Rod Stewart lead singer... very Rod Stewart. Meh.

Stay With Me is a good song but I'm not that interested by the rest, just didn't grab me. Rod Stewart's vocals are great and it's cool to hear him doing the bluesy rock and roll, when I suppose I associate him more with the cringey disco stuff from later in his career. But yeah, I wasn't super engaged by this

I'm too old to be introduced to another band that sounds like this.

2.5/5 - Stay With Me and Debris are good songs. The rest of the album, while short, doesn't do much at all for me. Exile on Main Street was produced the same year and does all the same things here much better.

Kinda a less memorable Doors for me—the band has chops, some of the songs really move, but it doesn't light my fire, as it were. Miss Judy's Farm and Stay With Me actually go a place.

These guys sure could play. And it’s a shame they chose to play the most generic rock music of the 70s. Sorry dad, but I don’t think Rod Stewart is my guy

ok list, that’s enough rod stewart

Nothing to write home about

Do like one track but the rest faded away for me

It's fine. Straight forward 70s pop rock. 5/10

An album is as insignificant as any other proto-butt rock released in this decade

6/10 Highlights: Debris That's All You Need

De plaat is echt lang me heen gegaan. Pas toen de stem van Neil Young uit mijn speakers kwam door de autoplay van Spotify werd mijn interesse weer gewekt. Veelzeggend. De stem van Rod Stewart doet me blijkbaar niet zoveel met me. De afzonderlijke nummers heb ik dan ook niet van elkaar kunnen onderscheiden. 5/10

I'm starting to believe 1001albumsgenerator is called that because it literally generates these albums. I don't think this was made by humans

I can see how this album might have been a big deal in 1971, but it’s basically the same note all the way through. A couple good songs, but we knew that already. Nothing spectacular here.

unmemorable

Rod Stewart sneak attack. This had its moments but was generally very middle of the road soft rock for people who aren't massively into music. The late 60s harmonies got particularly old by the end.

If you are into this genre it’s probably a good album. I’m just so tired of this kind of rock that it does nothing for me.

"How much longer will apathy rule? They have their hair done and they wear Oxford bags Take their birds to the pictures and spray your Ford Cortinas Talk about football, birds and the telly"

Throw on Miss Judy's Farm, or sure, Stay With Me...I might nod along. But I've done the calculations and have a roughly 5-minute threshold for Rod Stewart yips and yaps.

Reminds me of blind melon

Generic Rock Sounds

A scene that has never happened: Doctor: I'm afraid he's going. The cancer has spread and surgery was unsuccessful. I think he has time for a few last words before he passes. Dying Man: I wish... I wish I had... listened to more Faces albums before I died... This list can do better. Just listen to the Rolling Stones, the Faces don't need to be here.

eh, not the style i like, didn't even finish

Where have I heard of the band, Faces? That's right. Rod Stewart's band. UGH! I dislike Rod Stewart & this album only helps that cause & fuels it. Silly, cheesy Lyrics, rhyming Judy & Moody, then Rita & sweeta. UGH! The band itself is actually fantastic & the music is impressive but I have to listen to ROD some of the time. UGH! 2.5 Rod Stewart looks like someone put a mullet on a pug & cut off the party in the back. Then squeezed it into tight leather pants & a white collared shirt with the top few buttons undone.

Rod Stewart. Pls. No. This might be alright really but if my ears could punch back they would.

This album captures Faces at their most loose and freewheeling, but that same energy can make it feel uneven. It’s full of swaggering rock and roll attitude, with Rod Stewart’s gravelly vocals front and center and Ronnie Wood’s guitar cutting through the mix. The band’s chemistry is undeniable, yet much of the record leans heavily on barroom charm rather than strong songwriting. “Stay With Me” is the obvious highlight, a punchy anthem that still stands out as one of their best moments. Beyond that, the material often blurs together, sticking closely to a bluesy, good-time formula that starts to wear thin. The rough production suits their style, but it also leaves many tracks feeling underdeveloped. A Nod Is As Good As A Wink… To A Blind Horse is a snapshot of early 70s rock excess — loud, sloppy, and full of attitude. It’s enjoyable in bursts, but it never quite reaches the consistency or depth needed to make it a truly great album.

p249. 1971. 2 stars. Well done pub rock with some decent songs but also unnecessary covers. I suspect this is on the list as a reminder of what a great live act they were.

This is #day423 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… yay, another record with Rod Stewart on vocals. Oh, wait, somebody else (I've learned that's Ronnie Lane) takes a few turns as well. Either way, what we've got here is classic '70s hard/blues rock. I probably wouldn't switch the station if it came on a classic rock radio, but if I were to put on something in a similar vein myself, I'd most likely land on some Rolling Stones. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day424.

Pub blues, and when Lane is singing, there's nothing interesting at all. Rod has a bit of something about him, and makes Stay With Me into a banger. All in all a bit nothing much, then an egregious version of Memphis, Tennersee shows up.

Short & easy listen.

This is kind of like a serving of mediocre French fries. If you’re craving fries it’ll do the job, but otherwise I don’t really need it. But instead of French Fries it’s bluesy rock. These are competently written and played rock songs. Rod Stewart’s vocals are fairly unique, and there’s cool guitar work, but there isn’t a ton keeping me interested here. It’s pretty whatever rock in this style. Palatable, but I’m not really coming back.

Kinda fun to see where Rod Stewart started, and I liked some of the blues influence. Did not turn me into a Faces fan, tho.

Trying my hand at in-depth critical analysi ... oh forget it, I just didn't like this.

Already had this one

it's more dad rock. literally. my father listens to rod steward (but not faces though, first time i'm hearing of them).

Pretty digestible stuff. Nothing really standing out. Fav tracks - Love Lives Here

Unter Durchschnitt. 2,4

Another one of those "why did I need to hear this album before I die?" albums. It was fine, nothing about it seemed groundbreaking or even exciting for the time.

soft rock country vibes. not a fan.

Inoffensive blues rock, like everything Rod ever did.

The dirt poor man's rolling stones.

a strap on is as good as a dick to a pussyless bottom

Look, this album is fine. I’ve not yet read a single review that can justify why it needs to be on this list though, and listening to the album doesn’t offer a convincing argument either. What are they doing that’s new and innovative? What musician is singling this out as their major influence? Help me. Also- when they played live, what was Rod Stewart doing on the tracks where he doesn’t sing, just taking a smoke break? I truly don’t understand the multiple lead singer thing when one or more don’t play instruments. Last thought - after a few beers, you could easily convince me “Stay With Me” was on The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.

Pretty generic classical rock album. Nothing outstanding here.

I've never been very familiar with Rod Stewart, and listening to this album I feel like I haven't missed much. It's basically honkey-tonk rock, with piano riffs that sound like they come from the guy in the corner saloon in a cheesy cowboy movie. Then there is some goofy slide guitar, and plenty of jangles. Some of it has a homey kind of appeal. Memphis, Tennessee is OK, for example. 2/5

This album suddenly started to feel boring

Not bad, not good, just... in the middle. Mostly forgettable.

Just very pedestrian.

Kind of a waste of blues rock and I will not be convinced to like rod stewart. A lot of this is reminiscent (and before of course) that black crowes album that I did really enjoy so that is making me rethink how I feel about that album. I dunno, lyrics aged terribly, that one song about like hooking up at your parents house was so bad, and honestly stay with me the megahit is great if you only listen to the chorus but my dude is constantly flipping between “please sleep with Me” and “I don’t remember your name, be gone before I wake up” which is so annoying. Idk, nothing sticks out, just average blues. Might need to knock black crowes down to 3.

Boring classic rock. Nothing you haven't heard before. I like Stay With Me for the first two minutes but damn these dudes don't know how to wrap up an idea. 2/5

Listenable.

Garbage proto ACDC. Debris is fine.

Competent but unremarkable blues rock. The piano and organ (?) stand out from the guitar and drums in a pleasant way.

I’m not sure why this is such an essential album. Rod Steward grates on my nerves after awhile. 2 stars because that first song, lol.

Good for them. Not for me.

Slightly better than ‘meh’

Was ok. Not really a fan of rod Stewarts voice though. Some songs much better than others. Liked debris a lot.

At first: hmm that one guy kind of sounds like Rod Stweart Later: eww it IS Rod Stewart Overall bad, but track 2 was kind of funny.

Better than Rod Stewart's solo stuff, but poor lyrics and alright music doesn't make for a must-listen album.

all right rod, I prefer the small faces , like very much prefer , but I get it , bands break up and rod had to start infiltrating the masses somehow

4/10 Faces are undoubtedly the best version of Rod Stewart but somehow this album still leaves me as cold as the rest of his ouvre. I actually thought it would be better based on the strength of 'Stay With Me', but while the rest of the album is perfectly serviceable bluesy 70s rock it's just not an album I would ever feel the need to revisit. Debris was quite a nice tune though. Listens: 1

I only know a couple of Faces songs, and one of them, "Stay With Me," happens to be on this album. However, I really love Rod Stewart, and I've been listening to his solo work since I was a kid in the eighties and nineties. I enjoyed both of Rod Stewart's solo albums that are on this list, so I'm hoping that I'll really enjoy this album too. Let's boogie with Rod and Ronnie! I'm sad to say that I thought this album was a bit of a dud. The overall sound of the album was fine, but there just wasn't anything particularly noteworthy or catchy about this blues rock affair. It seems to me that Faces didn't really utilize Rod Stewart's talents as a vocalist that well on this album. The thing I really enjoy about Rod Stewart's solo music, is that he leans into this 'down-on-his-luck, hopeless romantic' type of lover. And then he can turn on a dime and just ooze charisma, confidence, and sexiness. The only song where he leaned into that was on the fantastic "Stay With Me." In addition to Stewart's great vocals, Ronnie Wood's guitar playing just oozes the blues, and the Wurlitzer piano adds some great groove. "Too Bad" was a pretty fun blues rocker as well, showcasing some more of Ronnie Wood's great guitar playing. "That's All You Need" had some more great guitar playing, but I wasn't a fan of the song overall. Other than that, there wasn't much that I really liked on this album. I'm not a big fan of Ronnie Lane's singing on this album, and it just left me wanting more Rod Stewart. But the songwriting on this album wasn't particularly strong, and I don't think this album really showcased Ronnie Wood's full talents until the second half of the album. I'll always love Rod Stewart, but when it comes to Faces, I might just stick to a few hits.

Middle of the road rock record.

Not really a fan.

Straight up just did not enjoy this much. It's not awful but seems aggressively generic

not super fussed by rod stew, good voice but i find him ridiculously creepy and that's difficult to move past

A drugstore hotdog is as good as this album to me.

This is a real rocket. Sound wise, this album is a loot of fun. However, I struggled maintaining interest as the album progressed. Stewart has energy, but couldn’t maintain my interest lyrically. For me, it was like going to a loud party where you don’t get the people there. So, I left wondering what it would take to go back. Still wondering. Musically, I’d give this a 3 easily, but I reviewed it earlier and gave a 2. Based on the 2nd listen, nothing compelled me to change.

So sick of Rod Stewart. Glad there was another singer to balance him out.

I'm not a massive Rod fan, apart from when he did that cup draw pissed. That was gold. Stay With Me is an absolute belter though. Rest of the album was alright.

Boring

1. farm - 2 2. rude - 1.5 3. love - 2 4. lazt - 1.5 5. ztay - 1.5 6. debriz - 1 7. memphiz - 2 8. bad - 1.5 9. need - 2

I just can’t get past Rod’s voice, plus I’m not too receptive to this brand of raucous and sloppy rock and roll. Steel drums just because? No thanks.

Uninterested

not a fan of Rod’s singing picks: that’s all you need, stay with me, debris

"That's All You Need" and a couple others are bangers, but as a whole, pretty dull.

Tämä bilebändi ei välitä B-osista, koukuista, sanoista tai edes riffeistä. Omista kappaleista vain Stay With Me onnistuu täysin, ja Chuck Berry -coveri saa kaipaamaan lainabiisejä. Vitun kovat soundit kylläkin.

Miss Judy, is a good rock song. Upping the tempo towards the end is the star of the show. I enjoyed that a lot. The lyrics and melody were something to nod the head too, not life changing, but fit. You’re So Rude, great title. I love the feeling of this one. The guitar motifs are great. Almost jazz like? bluesy? I love the groove all the way through and some lyrics made me giggle. Love Lives Here, a ballad. He sounds close to Rod Stewart on this record. I think he’s sad about the breakdown of a relationship that he doesn’t want to face but he knows is true. The piano is beautiful in this. Guitars and drums are married well. Last Orders Please, sounding country off the bat and off the title. “Fancy seeing you here” i like a lot, hear it so often in normal life. “I thought time was a healer, But I guess I was wrong. I am to blame”. Drunken words are sober truths?? Stay With Me, feels rock forward with blues connotations. This is fully about being a rockstar, and deffo lonely, but masking it as wanting to fuck. A very known tale. “In the morning please don’t say you love me, Cause you know i’ll only kick you out the door.” As long as it’s detached he’s fine with it lol. The melody is good tho, and the band are supporting this message very well. The ending speeding up into a jam like feel is so good. Clearly all at the top of their game in these moments, they’re locked in tight with each other. “Slow down a bit” so realll. Debris, another slower song at the beginning. “And you, you tried to tell me, But i had to learn for myself.” Having to fuck up to understand it. “Oh you were my hero….But i left you on the debris” I think this song is about truly wondering if you fucked up someone’s life, and not maliciously but through pure lack of care. I like it. Memphis, is a story i was not expecting. From the start i thought maria was a stripper but you come to learn she’s a 6 year old girl. so?? i’m taking that as a child made by surprise?? but truly it’s an easy ish listen as a song in general just a chilled electric country tune. The band really love to speed up at the end. Too Bad, i’m baffled by this story. They were turned away from somewhere for being scruffy. Makes a lot of sense to me, but he’s annoyed by it for sure “they just wanted to socialise” righttt. Again band it tight, a lot of moving parts but i’m not hearing anything much different from the rest of the tracks. Last track, That’s All You Need. Distorted guitar starting us out. Four on the floor, kick drum. This song wasn’t that memorable for me, couldn’t sing anything back if i tried really. It’s not awful though. I’m giving the album a 2 and that might seem harsh. But at no point was i wowed. I enjoyed it as easy listening, his voice is good and the band is tight. Nothing ground breaking. I love the album name a lot.

Ever since I was a teenager, I've hated Rod Stewart. I don't know why, and it's irrational. That being said, there are some decent songs of on this album.

Estuvo ok, se deja escuchar, pero ya lo olvidé

Boring and cringy lyrics. Not irritating enough to be a 1, but just... bland.

I totally agree with the guy who complains about this list. So many bland albums with nothing special on them that could've been replaced with very interesting and cutting edge albums. That would've made the list a lot harder to digest for the average listener.

This album didn't seem particularly special. I think the only reason it's on this list is because the performers are well known, which isn't a good reason.

weirdly pleased with myself for recognizing rod stewart by voice alone. i'm slotting this album directly next to "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" in the "uneventful albums with one recognizable good vibes rock song i've heard on the radio but otherwise have never thought twice about" pile. 2.5

It's just solid, middle-of-the-road, rock and roll. Nothing super unique or surprising but everything was just... good.

nothing special

Brilliant name for an album, but largely dull. I prefer his solo work, when his voice turned considerably more raspy.

Not as good as the album title.

Not my thing 2 stars

Meh, never heard of them beforehand and will probably never think about them or the album again…

Boring, uninspiring granddadrock

Не впечатляет

Inte imponerad.

Meh. I prefer Rod Stewart’s solo career albums.

Nice in parts. Very classic rock vibes and some nice parts . Don’t see a ton of replay values , it’s always nice to hear some melancholy rod Stewart though … a firm 2 A nice example of an album where I enjoy side B more than A

It’s forgettable and there’s nothing much else to say.

Not aggressively bad. It’s just not my jam. I can hear elements of precision and talent but I’d never choose to listen to this again. 2.5/5

The most medium listen so far

Boring dad rock.

Nothing special - easy listening rock

This is just middle-of-the-road, bluesy, bar room rock and roll. Nothing unique or surprising but everything was just...fine. Faces is most notable for what some band members did after Faces broke up. Although I think the world would have been perfectly good without Rod Stewart’s solo career. 2⭐️

all songs blended in and sounded the same to me

Pretty meat and potatoes early 70s British rock with Rod Stewart.

Fun music. Rod before he broke away from the pack and really hit it big……or sold out…..whatever.

The music is pretty good but Rod Stewart is such a sleazy merchant. Tbf though, the other guy makes him sound like a good singer! Ok list, you did make me reassess my thoughts on Rod Stewart, still hate him but his early stuff was at least semi-legit.

1001 albums dads need to hear

Middle of the road, and so a 2.5

Reminds me of horny teenage 90s Country.

I’ve literally never heard of this group and after listening to them that’s probably for the best. I’ll give them one star for the nostalgia of listening to dad rock with my dad while we drove places.

Y'know, I already don't really like Rod Stewart's voice, and it is in full swing on this record. Despite having a couple good songs and some great guitar playing (ESPECIALLY on "That's All You Need"), the rest of the album just meanders on with some boring blues numbers that I don't care about

Fine background music. 2/5

Within 60 seconds of starting this album, it was clear where The Black Crowes got their sound from. It immediately conjured up the image of a random bar or pub in the early 90s with The Black Crowes playing in the background. If that’s your style, you’ll be in for a treat. Unfortunately, it’s not for me.

Stay With Me

Meh. Not for me. I am impressed he made it as far as he did with his level of rasp. It’s like the more rock n’ rolly Bowie tunes which are my least favorite to begin with , but without any of the stuff that makes those songs kinda interesting. Like Bowie’s Dylan impression but not as good.

I get that it's part of rock history, but this does nothing for me.

A mixed bag...... Obviously stay with me is an absolute banger, but between that the other tracks are mostly fairly standard blues/rock and roll numbers. Also rod Stewart was much cooler in this band than he later became lol

Any song sung by someone other than Rod Stewart is instantly better. Rod Stewart has an absolutely terrible voice and I don’t know how he ever got famous. Aside from his horrible wailing, this is a pretty generic classic rock album. I could have gone my whole life without ever listening to this. 2

Although this sounds like music I would like, I didn't really feel for anything except Stay With Me. Very unmemorable album.

Meh. It's got two good songs, and they're not even all that.

My fav Rod Stuart song isn't Rod Stuart...: Stay with me.

2.5 stars

Nice little folk / blues

There was nothing wrong with this album, I just didn't care much for it. Favorite track: "Memphis," probably.

Rock & Rul fra samme skuffe som Dr. Hook og Status Quo har kigget dybt i. Uinspirerende og kedeligt. Dog credit for at album titlen giver mindelser om en af Monty Pytons sjoveste sketches

Perfectly fine, but I already forgot what I listened to.

Two okay songs and one was a chuck berry cover...

Not for me.

ok blues rock on the face of it but I didn't really enjoy this

Yeah ok this

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Mix: Soundstage teils beeindruckend. Wertung: 2/5

the old white folks in the pubs turn the fuck UP when this comes on

Rod Stewart’s vocals are like condom: it doesn’t matter how good the music is, that voice is going to come between you and whatever you’re supposed to experience from the rest of the band.

not a fan, downloaded debris tho!

The actual sound isn't unique but rod stewart's voice and the band's energy carries it through the classic rock n roll jams.

Can’t take rod

Good album, but didn't stand out. I know this band because their hit "Oh La La" was one of the first songs I learned on guitar. I think the music is simple, but classic, which is why it's easy to learn.

generic 60s/70s rock. plenty of better options. what's that, Rod Stewart is the singer? umm.... my previous statement still stands.

Back to Jeff Beck - at least Truth had instrumentals.

It’s fine. Is it something I needed to listen to before I die? No. 2.5 rounded down because I’m feeling spiteful

4/10 Highlights: Debris

Alright, stay with me slaps but the rest is a bit meh. Never been much of a Rodhead

Not bad

It was just entirely unremarkable music to me. The album title is cool though

I wanted to like this, but I don't think it has aged well. 😕

Except for the one standout single and Rod’s voice (which later launched his solo career), this seems like a pretty average British rock album typical of the era.

I mean... it's no Ooh La La.

Idk kind of blues played by old English dudes. Just don’t care.

Its good, though I'm not quite sure why it's on here. I had no idea Rod Stewart was in Faces so that's interesting. Captures the changing sounds of the early 70's transition from Blues to Rock. Not as hard as the Stones, but a clear directional shift

Niet slecht, maar echt een blijvertje gaat dit niet worden.

Yeah, didn't really speak to me. The whole thing just felt kinda milque. Probably not helped by me getting The Band yesterday, which was hella crunchy

Bit basic

Too fuzzy, and I still find the blues to be dull more often than not.

This sounds like your uncle Jimbos band playing in the smokiest bar in town. Good mix of Rod Stewart and Elton John. Sweet bass lines though.

Yup yup yup

Like a passing breeze. Insignificant.

Liked the first song alot

your grandpa's yeehaw cowboy elvis music. who cares

Good pub band

Seems very classic rock, nothing too special

Stay with me only good song? Should I do them rotten on the new brian system? 1 star for one good song? I'll give it two.

I don't like Rod Stewart singing songs or writing songs or trying to sing Memphis he is bad I like Ronnie Lane though

A couple good songs, okay overall

Bit shit 4/10

70s ass

Bland and uninteresting. At first I thought that for this one it could have just been because it came out in 1971 but then I realized that's the same year Led Zeppelin 4 came out, so it's not like nothing interesting was being made that year.

Interesting.

Stay with my guitar is pretty nice

Dime a Dozen (blues) rock album. Nothing really interesting nor terrible to be had here.

OK - nothing to get too excited about. How do you have Rod in your band and decide to sing yourself?

I hate Rod Stewart but admit he has a good voice. It's wasted on all these bland low effort songs

This is the music that plays when you say “Siri, play classic rock”. Nothing wrong with any of this, but also didn’t bring anything to the table that I haven’t heard a million times before.

Not really feeling it. I thought I liked the Faces, but maybe today is not the day. Rod Stewart’s voice is really grating on me. I liked the tracks sung by Ronnie, but nothing really felt exciting to me, or unique or compelling. On the paint palette, a magnolia band.

This was an easy listen. Bluesy rock tunes with story lyrics. ‘You’re So Rude’ is a bit Hedwig-esque. ‘Stay With Me’ is as familiar as a well-worn pair of shoes.

This is definitely NOT an album you need to hear before you die. A couple of the songs are good enough, but at the end of the day, The Faces are just a bar band, and that's cool to swig a beer to, but ultimately not very interesting in the long run. Having said that, you can put together a pretty killer playlist of the best songs from the Faces/Rod Stewart solo albums (which also feature The Faces) from their 1970-72 heyday. But aside from Every Picture Tells a Story, there's not a single album that's worthy of inclusion on this list. Also, it cracks me up that in a band with Rod Stewart that Ronnie Lane would say, "Hey guys, you know I can sing, too."

By the time I got to Memphis, Rod's vocal fry grated my nerves to the point I had to skip this song and the following two.

So boring, a massive let down from the earlier Stewart album

Sure. Okay it’s ok. Boogie Wookiee is a phrase that combines some old form of Rock n Roll with spellcheck.

Not for me.

Not really my flavor, but perfectly generic sounding Britt blues rock with Rod up front.

Hmmm, he‘s got such an annoying voice to be fair

Niet goed niet slecht maar compleet oninteressant en saai

Snore. Rod Steward is over-rated. Not a fan of 'bluesy-rock' as sung by an Englishman with a mullet.

not bad for what it is but i’ll play sticky fingers 100 times before i’ll put this on

Oh god is this Rod Stewart again. NOPE!

Enjoyable enough, but it all struck me as too derivative of Bob Dylan’s rock phases, slightly less good.

Eh, nothing special. Just average folksy early 70s rock. 2/5

Rod Stewart pretty average

there's no spice

Usedvanlig intetsigande

Likte bedre Small Faces

I'm sure at the time this came out it was average, but with how saturated we are with good albums from every era this album is still just average 4/10

I respect blues rock, that doesn't mean I enjoy it!

God damn I hate Rod Stewart but Faces can really play their instruments.

Not a fan of this band

Meh. I didn’t realize that this was Rod Stewart on vocals and I didn’t like it because it sounded too much like Rod Stewart. Is this guy everywhere?! He keeps showing up unannounced and unwanted. The further I get into this project, the more I realize I’m not a big fan of traditional rock, or blues… or rock with blues in their mouths, and when they rock, they shoot blues at you.

blurred into all the other 70s stuff

That was disappointing. Everything blurred into one except for the last song, which had some life.

Tof maar ook niets dat men aandacht trok

The only Faces song I like is Ooh La La and it’s not here. This band is just so mediocre. Rod’s a cool cat, and I dig his voice, but this is all just so lacklustre. Meh to the power of Meh squared.

Nä det här va inge vidare hörru

Ye olde run-of-the-mill 70s (blues) rock. Only good track is "Debris". The rest? - Yawn. 2/5

Best Song: Stay with Me. It might be just because this song has a hint of familiarity, but I think Rod Stewart's otherwise frustrating voice works here. Worst Song: Love Lives Here. I absolutely despise these kinds of "look how much I care" ballads that seem so popular from this era. Overall: There is something about Rod Stewart's voice that I just don't like. To me, it sounds "flat". Like butter scraped over too much bread. It feels like it's missing some resonant, bass-y quality. Beyond that, the rest of the album is your pretty standard classic rock. Nothing to hate, nothing to love.

1 stand out track.

I don't enjoy Rod Stewart's music, so I felt the same way about this. Not bad, just boring to me.

Eh, fine. "Stay With Me" is a good time, but on the whole I spent most of the record wondering why I would choose to listen to this over anything of the similar era from The Rolling Stones. I think the answer is that, in most instances, I wouldn't. So the headline here is, "New Faces album isn't The Rolling Stones." Which isn't fair, really, but it's all I got.

This started to sound interesting but slowly felt like a very basic rock album. I'm not sure why they are on this list, the music wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything new or fresh compared to the hundreds of rock bands on this list. I've never heard of them before.

Eh, not doing much for me. This is Rod Stewart's band I guess? I've never been a fan of him either. I can't say this is bad, it's just middle-of-the-road, serviceable rock music. Two songs I enjoyed, the rest was a nondescript blur. Maybe I'm the blind horse. I'll forget about this one posthaste. Favorite tracks: You're So Rude, Debris. Album art: Picture got me worried this was a live album. I do think the album title is clever, but nothing inspired or inspiring to look at here. 2/5

[Not Heard Before] (+) Debris

Very much a best-of band. Good in points but overall: meh.
