Reviews (page 12 of 13)
The actual album as a whole is not the greatest but if you just listen to the guitar it’s amazing. Jimi is a wizard on the axe
Already listened to it
Listenable
Novedoso en aquel momento. Me ha gustado menos que otros
classic Hendrix there isn't really a standout track though
Spotify broke this day so had to trial Apple Music. Good album though! Fav Tracks: "Little Wing" "If 6 Was 9"
It's great but the least great of the Hendrix albums.
This album surprised me a bit. I didn't expect to hear Noel Redding singing or a skit about aliens, for starters. Then there are some poppier tracks than on the debut, and also some more soulful tunes that clearly inspired John Frusciante etc (Little Wing, Bold as Love - these are the highlights for me). One Rainy Wish was my favourite new discovery. Lush. 3/3.5
Funky as but a bit too trippy at times.
Not my favorite Hendrix album, but you can’t argue with those melodic riffs.
Squam
Han har bättre skivor.
New album to me. Enjoyed much more than other JH collections. That said, not my favorite music.
It occurred to me that, while I really like some of Hendrix’ songs, I don’t think they combine into particularly good albums.
Leuk, maar weinig verrassend
Cool album. Seems more of a poet than a singer.
Normal.
I'm enjoying it more and more on each listen. So far the standout tracks have been Castles Made of Sand—She's So Fine—One Rainy Wish. I appreciate the excellent guitars but not something I tend to gravitate towards in music. Feels a bit wasted on me, tbh. 3.5/5
Some of my favorite Hendrix songs are on here (i.e. Castles Made of Sand), but this is probably my least favorite Hendrix album. Just not that deep.
This is a solid album with some fine songs, but it doesn’t have any knock out punches that we got on his debut album Are you experienced or his 3rd release Electric Ladyland. She’s so fine and Exp seem out of place and result in an uneven effort.
certainly a classic but for me it didn't hit as hard as other hendrix material
Pretty cool album. Love the guitar work on a lot of the songs. 6/10
Gets better as it goes, but not as good as his other two.
2 Jimmy albums in a row... brought to you by the gods of RNG
Not bad for jimi
Trippy intro, the time before trippy intros were cliche. Wild to think this is the same year as sgt peppers. Not really into this kind of guitar rock any more, but little wing still slaps.
There are some elite tracks on here: Little Wing, If a 6 Was 9, Castles Made of Sand, and Bold As Love. A 5 star bonanza of sorts. The rest…mmm…a lot of filler. These other 9 songs drown out the elite and drag this album down to mediocrity.
This is hard to rate, because more than a couple of the songs on here kind of feel like they exist just as an excuse for Jimi Hendrix to have a guitar solo. But those solos are INCREDIBLE. And there are some pretty good songs on here too. Not sure if all the panning was necessary. Things would randomly move quickly all around and I don't know why. Overall, solid album with some quirks.
A bit cartoonish. Little Wing is a great song and the other tracks are okay.
What exactly was the point of the first track? This album contains some good songs (Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, One Rainy Wish), but I really don't care for the noisy sound effects that a lot of artists on this list appear to be a fan of. Second half of the album is generally better.
I wanna like this more than I do. Clearly Jimi Hendrix is a guitar-god, but when it comes to listening pleasure it's just... ok? Personal enjoyment is a 3.5.
Meh
It's OK. He has better
I've never given a flying fuck about Jimi Hendrix. It was fine.
Good
Is it controversial to say Hendrix isn't a great singer even if his guitar slaps?
this definitely isn't hendrix at his best but it still had a few good songs really not into that pyschedelic bit that every 60s artist felt like they had to do
I love Little Wing, Spanish Castle Magic and the title track, but not much else is as memorable. Great guitar and drumming as usual.
Good, but not my taste
Super cool and intense, mainly for the year it was released
3.5
Not my kind of music but I enjoyed it, there were some songs I really liked despite de album started boring me by the end, the guitar in this album is so melodic and clear, not sure if I would listen to this again but it was good.
Not Electric Ladyland. But it’s Hendrix.
Jimi Hendrix is always good, but l would say there are only a few must hear songs on this (along with all his albums).
The first track was awful - hurt my ears! The rest was ok.
Lesser then are you experienced it turns out.
He's good at guitar!
crisdusseld avait mis trois.
dont like rock
Not bad overall. No songs jump at me. 3/5
Love the guitars
Nice guitar noodling. Won't revisit.
Enjoyable listen, has one of my fave Hendrix tracks in Castles Made of Sand but quite a lot is forgettable albeit lovely to listen to
hard to listen to at work.
Another album I'd like to give more time but really just needed to catch up. One listen was pretty enjoyable, so I think I could come back to this one Saved: Little Wing, Bold as Love
Jimi Hendrix is a legend. The guitar work is just on a different level. This style of music isn't something I care to listen to often, but there are some jams on here for sure.
On first listen I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
some classics mixed in with other standard jimi. probs listen to a mix album instead of this specifically but otherwise good.
Quite nice. Much mellower and less noodling than I would have expected. Fine, but not massively memorable.
Struggled to actually listen to the album through the links. Not sure if that was just me...
Not my favourite Hendrix album but even this one has some incredible playing. A bit uneven and disjointed though
Aye it's sick like what do you want me to say just wagga wagga woo on the geet all day boy wouldn't know how to do a tax return but he would know how to do a slight return I tell ya what voodoo chile
Would listen to it again.
Oldie but good
It's like going to a classic brewery where you know everything is going to be good
Good album didn't love the transitional... choices?
Tighter and poppier than I would have expected. I've not listened to this studio album before now, but was expecting more of the psychedelic freeform guitar work he's know for. Still firmly in the stoner category but less trippy. The title track in particular is a great balance of the styles. Despite the documented recording difficulties of the album, I'm impressed by the clarity and imaging.
If 6 was 9 Castles made of sand
Very "out there" experimental funky psychedelic guitar playing. An influential and important album, I'm sure, but it's one that I'm only happy to have listened to purely for its historical significance. Hendrix's talent is undeniable, but I couldn't really get into the album and I didn't find it especially enjoyable to listen to.
3-4
good.
Meh, bold as love was better when Mayer covered it.
Good none of the songs stood out
Was a poster on my college wall for most of college Great guitar and bass
Not my favorite Hendrix album, but another easy listen. Feel like he doesn't get enough credit as a songwriter, people just think woo-hoo-guitar-guy.
I had not listened to a lot of his albums. The sound I expected. Nice.
Good driving music
not as good as first, more mellow, some classics
Good stuff
Liked it, though I think it merits another listen. I don't feel I was able to truly appreciate it yet.
Overall very nice sound, not any particular love for any of the songs
Not bad
Solid elguitar, kreativt, rock
Hell yes
Great guitar player, but on record this is not fully displayed. Too short songs with awful fade-outs. Only the longest track, If 6 was 9, you hear the real strength of Jimi Hendrix.
not for me. i don’t hate it but if i wasn’t committed to listening to the whole album i would turn it off.
I am not a fan of Jimi Hendrix
I’m not a huge fan and this album seemed extra weird to me. DNF
It was okay, not my style but some tracks I did enjoy and bopped to slightly which are Ain't No Telling and Little Wing (my favorite from this album). Maybe this was too mature for my liking, I guess? I think my dad would definitely enjoy this since he's a huge fan. I'd give it a 4/10.
Holy immersive experience
Beste sang: "Castles made of sand"
It would have been fun live. Unstructured and unformed here. Perhaps too soon after previous lp?
super overrated
Recommended to listen with headphones. Not enough flow, some good parts, but not enough for me. Needed more. songs I liked: Spanish Castle Magic, Wait Until Tomorrow 2/5
First Hendrix I haven’t loved, but still enjoyed
I understand who Hendrix is within the history of music. And guitar playing, in particular. But I’ve never owned any of his albums. And I don’t enjoy listening to his music. And the last few weeks of albums generated to our group- we just hit 100- made me more curious about who chose & influenced these particular 1000+ albums. And specifically, what % of contributors were women (I only saw she/he pronouns in my physical copy of the book from 2013). From my math- about 15% was the answer. We started this project with the website alone. Then, halfway into our first 100 albums, we ordered the book. But I never read the preface written by the Rolling Stones founding editor Michael Lyndon or Dimery’s introduction to the book. And I only briefly looked at the bios of the individual contributors. Until now. The preface put into words part of my struggle with this project: time. I often feel like I need more time before making a decision and rating an album. “On first listening, albums unfold as books and movies unfold, each track (or chapter or scene) carrying us further into unknown territory…. over weeks and months we explore the album, hearing new beauties with each replay.” So, I started a playlist of albums I felt warranted more time- and I’ve revised a few of my original reviews after spending more time with a particular album. But the other issue I keep bumping into is what I’ll call the agro bro vibe of classic rock and metal and unfortunately, even much of early punk rock- my personal first love. And this list leans hard into that vibe at times. I’m not sure whether that says more about who gets to make music or who gets to review music or both. None of that really falls under the review or this Hendrix album per se. But it did send me down this rabbit hole…
Extremely talented guitarist. This album was great to listen to.
not my vibe
Started out with... no stop that straight away. Lurched into Jimi doing his blues rock thing and quickly fade from my memory.
It’s not for me, but I really did enjoy the carefree vibe these recordings gave me. You can tell they were having a lot of fun and it has a lot of character to it. I had never heard a Jimi Hendrix song before this!
so mid
This was boring
I didn't like it, maybe it was my mood but it just didn't click for me... But I liked the drums
A few bright spots - not even songs, parts of songs - but generally not feeling this. I like the cover tho!
some of the least exciting music in the canon to me. it's hard to argue with Little Wing (though I could manage it if I were having a bad day), and the heavy psych-stomp of Spanish Castle Magic is pretty satisfying, but this is really boring otherwise - unless you count the other song about castles, which is execrably bad. oh well. at least there's only one Hendrix album left to go!
Skimmed
"Up From the Skies" is quite the trippy listening experience
Meh
Not my style
Didnt like it too much, i didnt even finish it fr. Perhaps its not for me, perhaps i just wasnt in the mood. Deffo not a bad album but i was just NOT feeling it
Best Track - "If 6 Was 9"
It all blended together in a messy (but clearly very competent) compote. Didn't hate it but it just didn't click.
Just was not feeling this album. I have heard many of his songs and they hit. maybe I just wasn't feeling it, might give another listen.
60s rock. Psych rock, acid rock. Much preferred first album. More chaotic and trippy.
i think maybe not personally my fav thing, but giving it a chance was not actually a bad idea
Meh
Alas, not for me.
cool album; would i listen again ... probably not
Definitely not for me
An item in a musical museum that is highly precious and unrepeatable, that much I admit, but it really does nothing for me, the improv and inconsistent melodies are specifically something that I find as a big problem here... 🤷🏻♀️
There are a couple of songs on here I liked, but the lesser known Hendrix stuff never really resonates with me.
I have never been able to get into Jimi Hendrix. This album didn't change that. I am happy it exists, but it's not for me.
Maybe it's because I've only listened with one ear, but I feel like Hendrix's song writing really lacks substance and Coles off today as a cliche of it's own hippie themes. The talent of the musicians isn't really put forward by the production and the balance, despite the attempts at Beatles-esque expérimentation. The hits and highlights of the album still do underline Hendrix's talent which remains undeniable, but better serviced when covering other's music.
Niet mijn smaak
Nothing really wrong with this. I guess my expectations were higher on everything and I listened too critically with the inherent bias of listening to a guitar legend.
3/6 Was alright but not as good as Are You Experienced.
:fire:
Favorite Song: Little Wing
Clearly great if you like that sort of thing, but sadly I don't.
I've never been a massive Hendrix fan. This didn't do it for me. It feels like a product of its time TBH. Bit disappointed.
Fav: Little Wing Too much Talking, not as exciting as i thought it would be
Happy to hear but not my vibe
Not the easiest listen, only one or two songs I'd come back to.
Some superb guitar (as expected) and obviously a really experimental work but mostly not my thing. Far too often it descends into discordant noise. I much preferred Electric Lady Land.
Didn't care too much for this. Voice kinda sucks. Guitar is pretty cool but not very memorable to me
Meh
It was cool, great guitar riffs. But underwhelming as i unexpected because I’m not the biggest fan 60s
Good but dated, it's hard not to enjoy buuuuut I could be listening to something else
Did not enjoy
Not my favorite from Jimi. I really liked bold as love. I felt like I kept waiting for him to go crazy but I never really got it. Definitely felt like the late 60s rock. 3/13 songs saved. 1/13 saved to personal playlist
recognize the talent but not for me
It was good but every song that I thought I liked got too aggressive? For me?
fauvorite: bold as love
Ok
just wasn’t that special to me
i have to admit maybe i wasnt in the right headspace for this
The sound and style is undeniable but the songs just aren’t for me
This is is the stereo version of watching a film in 2009 then realizing the odd camera placement and focus on shit flying toward you is because it was a 3d film, with its aimless stereo shifting - Pointless and distracting as theater switches are not as revolutionary today. I've always found Jimi Hendrix so incredibly boring. He's got skills, yes. He's even got some hits. But this album has very little that is actually interesting on it. Finally after 3 songs I got interested 1/2 through Spanish castle magic Like Big Brother and the Holding Company there is too much let’s just jam and figure it out about this … ain’t no telling for example is all over the place Little wing is interesting , but a bit slow If 6 was 9 could almost be a Black Sabbath song at the start but then it goes astray But also a bit Gill Scott heron Wait till tomorrow is kind of funky and interesting but the mix is odd Like watching a mediocre sketch show - spotty quality and no one know how to end a song.
Started off by liking the rocking garagey stuff. Not so keen on the jazzy slowies. Nodded off halfway through.
not a fav
**An ok album
I respect Jimi's guitar playing ability and the tightness of his band and I know his playing has influenced so many other guitarists - I just don't find that I would want to actually go back and listen to most of these songs. His singing voice and lyrical content aren't really that interesting to me. Before listening, I had already "liked" Little Wing. It's a great song but too short. I did discover new songs that I like - such as Wait Until Tomorrow and Castle Made of Sand Liked songs on Spotify: 3/13 Rating: 2/5
I didn't hate it, but it was kinda meh.
He’s obviously incredibly skilled… but just not my taste
Idk not my type of music ig nice background noise and i respect the legacy but eeeeh
I’m too sober for this shit
not my cup of tea, não adorei as vibes e sons dissonantes, parece sempre a mesma música mas com ruídos diferentes
Ok, but not one of my favourites from him.
Oh boy expected to like this a lot more than I did
Some parts sounded nice but overall I didn't enjoy it. "Exp" - I hate this one. "Up From The Skies" - I don't like it. The music is too loud and I don't love how he is singing. "Spanish Castle Magic" - I don't like it. Guitar is amazing though. "Wait Until Tomorrow" - Didn't really like it. "Ain't No Telling" - Didn't really like. "Little Wing" - Didn't really like it. "If 6 Was 9" - No. "You Got Me Floatin'" - No. "Castles Made of Sand" - No. "She's So Fine" - No. "One Rainy Wish" - Like this one more. "Little Miss Lover" - No. "Bold As Love" - No.
"Exp" - this hurts "Up From The Skies" - terribly mixed, i hate his voice, not even a fan of the instrumental "Spanish Castle Magic" - i just don't like this but the guitar is amazing "Wait Until Tomorrow" - still not a fan "Ain't No Telling" - bruh "Little Wing" - better than the others "If 6 Was 9" - this was kinda cool until the end "You Got Me Floatin'" - i didn't pay much attention but i didn't like it "Castles Made of Sand" - "She's So Fine" - "One Rainy Wish" - this one's better "Little Miss Lover" - "Bold as Love" - the guitar is nice
Interesting music, not my style but very funky.
2. guitar and vocals are great
the first track gives me motion sickness, and the rest is low-key forgettable :(
I've heard so much about Jimi Hendrix over the years, I expected to like this more than I did! Maybe it's just not my album. It grew on me more on the second listen, but I'm not sure I'd come back to it. Known songs going in: 0 Rating: 2.5 Favourite song(s): You Got Me Floating or Castles in the Sand
No really iconic tracks on this collection, such as Hey Joe / Watchtower / Voodoo While I certainly prefer the albums before and after, its still good to have it pop up on the 1001 album challenge
Some classics but didn't like it as much as I thought I would
It’s no Are You Experienced! Fairly mediocre for me
3.7/10
Honrstly, not a Jimi Hendrix fan, this is completely forgettable.
I can hear that it could be good music, but it's clearly not what I like.
You know what? As classic as this is I just don’t think I like guitar god music
The only song I know at a glance is “You Got Me Floating” and that’s because PM Dawn covered it. Generally only know the huge Jimi hits, never listened to a full album. I’m not a guitar nerd. Let’s see how this goes. It’s fine. You Got Me Floatin’ is my pick. The rest of the album is meh. I guess hippie psychedelic rock isn’t for me.
It was okay. Not my vibe.
I thought I would like Jimi better based on how much I have heard about him but he just doesn’t do it for me I’m not sure why
Honestly did not vibe with this nearly as much as I expected. Electric Ladyland was much much better. I’d rather listen to the Jimi neutron theme song 13 times rather than this. Some cool guitar solos and would be pretty sick to see live, but I did not add a single song and will not be listening again. Appreciated the nod to 6ix9ine in the song “If 6 was 9”. 2.2/5
Pretty generic guitar wibbling. No standouts on this album
Still not really into Jimi, I wish I was but I can’t really connect with this on a deep level. Great musician but not my thing. Castles Made of Sand was my favorite of the bunch
Controversial! A few nice standout songs (One Rainy Wish my favourite), but generally I found a lot of these tracks quite dull - it seemed at least twice as long as the 39 minute runtime. The production was bothersome to me, with the stereo panning utterly irritating. 5/10
Jimi certainly has moments that I enjoy, and tasty fills here and there that I can appreciate. I think my problem with his music is that a lot of his songs sounds kind of the same. They have the same vibe and same guitar fills, with some variation here and there. My biggest gripe though is that his singing sounds bored and like he’s talk-singing. And it seems he crams multiple syllables in that doesn’t make sense with the rhythm. I can appreciate that it was sort of revolutionary at the time though and we wouldn’t have a lot of modern music if not for him.
4/10
hmm i didnt like this as much as i hoped to but im hoping to get into him more so id give it another try.
Pass
Guitars just sound better when they’re fuzzy and/or jangly! This album offers these ears very little. - 2/5 🌟
Não sei se entendi muito bem. Achei muito psicodélico.
If 6 was 9 stands out as the hit. Rest of the album wasn’t memorable to me.
It is bold to love anything related to Geometry.
I am sorry. Jimi Hendrix might be a legend but I am not impressed the first time I'm listening. Maybe I should give it a second try.
It was ok. Not really the type of music I like but I can appreciate the talent
It's ok, not as good as his other stuff, but fine if you like Hendrix
Okay, so I really like several Jimi Hendrix songs, but the ones in this album are a bit meh, so I can't really rate this 4 stars. It was overall a bit worse than meh, hence the lower rating, but it's pretty decent for when you're just listening to this in the background.
Boring psychedelic noodling. That's how I honestly felt listening to this. I've never really been into Hendrix though I appreciate his skill and influence.
Interesting, and I get why Hendrix is so popular, but it´s not my style. Not bad, just not for me.
Like most people, I like listening to Jimi Hendrix play the guitar. Unlike a lot of people, I don't like listening to his songs. Pretty much every guitar solo on this sounds great, but many of the songs are held back by clunky choruses or verses. It's telling that the song that's the most immediately enjoyable (though not the best!) is "She's So Fine," the only one he didn't write. Hendrix's songwriting is less polished, like he didn't know how best to work his guitar into the songs. The first few songs especially suffer from this, but the second half is much better. The closer succeeds as a psychedelic jam where precious songs failed, and "One Rainy Wish" is another highlight.
Maybe I’m just havin a bad week, but I really didn’t like this. The echo-y vocals were annoying in parts, and the screeching instrumental at the end of “If 6 Was 9” was unbearable.
love the opening track i really tried but i'm just not into this kinda music
I’ve never been a fan of Hendrix. The distortion grates on me. It’s an ok album, wouldn’t listen again.
A hot take of mine has always been that besides the absurdly good Guitar, Hendrix isn’t that great. I don’t enjoy his vocals much. I love the guitar but oh well. I wish I enjoyed him and this more.
Closer to a jazz album than a rock album. Not my style of music but I can understand those who like it.
Did not like it
Ikke lige mig. Skær men fed i tro til gengæld
solid
A skilled musician but not for me.
Disappointing
i guess you had to be there
Yikes, I couldn’t get past the album cover, firstly. Secondly, it’s extremely meh. Some tracks were fine, but others were barely bearable. Safe to say, I do NOT get the hype.
I generously gave 'Are You Experienced' five stars for being an important album despite not really caring for it personally. I can't say this album feels as important, so the tide has rolled out on the rating...
This wasn’t as good as the first Hendrix album. There was some good things here. The overall album felt sloppy and disjointed. Left me disappointed now that I have a gauge as to Jimi’s true potential
Overrated
Quite dull, honestly.
I love me some Hendrix but when I say that I always listen to the hits. Listening to a studio album, I’ll be honest, massively disappointed. Apart from a couple of tracks it didn’t do anything for me at all. Top Track - If 6 Was 9
I've never been a fan of psychedelic rock, but this ain't half-bad. Didn't knock my socks off, but if I heard it again, I wouldn't be mad I did. I see why my Dad had a poster of this in the den when I was a kid.
ok
A technically really well made album, I just don’t think I’m a Hendrix person and that’s ok. Standout tracks on first listen: ain’t no telling, little wing
Okay. I must have listened to a different album. I have read a bunch of reviews telling me how wonderful this album is, with frequent mentions of different musical styles. All i hear is a bunch of riffs on The Wind Cries Mary, and all of them fairly flaccid imitations. Are You Expirienced is an incandescent bombshell that told us music would never be the same. Electric Ladyland was a masterpiece with a couple of filler tracks. Axis is all filler, no killer.
2.5
Soooooo samey , very boring . Wanted it to end
Never really understood Hendrix that much. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
Little wing
I know Jimi is a genius. I just don't enjoy listening to his music. A song here or there is fine, but a whole album is just not my thing. Castles Made of Sand is lovely.
Eipä ole Jimi koskaan ollut suosikkejani.
Niot as bad as I thought it would be.
Meh.
Song: little wing this song is good but not a lot of lyrics though but i guess it is good and it sounds longer when he sings it slow but i never heard of this song and it is a little weird Song: castles made of sand this song started okay at first like the guitar this song is good but it is very depressing music so i do not like it Song: one rainy wish this song at first to me was like beach vibes this song is my favorite in the whole album now when the lyrics go it was giving me fourth of july vibes
What is happening on the cover? "Little Wing" was pretty good. I liked it but it was nothing special, just a plain old song to me. " Castles Made of Sand" was okay. Again it was nothing special when you just listen to it. But when you really listen to the lyrics it is a sad song. "One Rainy Wish" was my favorite for no exact reason but it just sounded cool to me. Overall this album is a solid 3 stars and even though it 's pretty good I wouldn' t recomend this alum to anyone since it' s kind of boring.
Just ain't for me.
Kinda meh, not really my vibe :/
I feel like I need a music bro to mansplain Hendrix to me because I don't really get the hype and I don't think this is the album that'll do it for me. I can appreciate the skill and the artistry and the overall vibe really gets me into that mindset where I can picture myself driving down an American highway in the sixties, probably high on something. But that's just it - it's more background music to me and I guess I'm the type of person who needs music to engage me, make me actively listen.
Castles made of sand and little wing doing a lot of heavy lifting on here
Bluesy with lots of guitar solos. This is not my cup of tea at all, style wise. I can see people really liking this album. Doesn't really grab me in any way. 2/5
Super weird intro. Plays a lot with sounds moving from side to side.
Heard bits of it before. I do respect Jimi (fellow leftie) but this album just doesn't click for me 2/5
2+ Stars (6/15)
Searching for a sound recquires quite a bit of noise.
I like the funkier bass sounds of the first couple songs, but the rest of the album was hard to pay attention to
Not to my liking! Have never got on with Jimi Hendrix and have not understood why he is regarded so highly. But then other people are entitled to their opinion!
i wish i was experimental enough to give credits and have something to say but actually it's not my cup of tea
I often heard a Best Of growing up as my mum likes him, but this is my first time actually listening to an album. A few massive tunes but not impressed overall, feels like there's a lot of filler
I didn't really like it. But then again I'm pretty particular with music. Just like, the vocals weren't very good/special and also the guitar wasn't that interesting. Some of the more African influences were interesting. Wouldn't listen to again. Songs I liked most were Castles Made of Sand and Bold as Love (good instrumental last minute).
Legende? Ja, mag sein. Heißt aber nicht, dass das jedem gefällt. Experimentell? Ja! Musik zum Genießen? Eher nicht!
Not a Hendrix fan
Too experimental for me. Although he's one of the greatest guitarists, I expected more vocals and fully produced music.
I'm sure he was good at the guitar and stuff, but this really isn't a great album.
Bit of a chore. Some attention grabbing songs like Spanish Castle Magic but ultimately not for me
I wasn’t a huge fan. I did like the use of stereo and making it sound like the music was all over the room, and sometimes circling you… but overall I give it 4.7/10 I guess I just don’t like messy electric guitar solos. But after hearing some of John Mayer’s covers of these songs, I just can’t listen to the original and like it as much or more… sorry Jimmy, John did it better IMO.
Up and down record. The standouts are Castles Made of Sand and Axis.
I don't think I appreciate high level guitar enough to really get this one, and the oft-imitated 60's cultural touchstones really catch for me. Definitely channeling "ratings are for personal taste and not quality assessments" thing today.
a little too abstract for my taste but i can admire his guitar skills
Unfortunately, I didn't vibe with this as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, Hendrix was a spectacular guitarist, legendary. But a lot of the music here simply doesn't interest me. I've heard that "Little Wing" is one of Jimi's most enduring tracks. After my initial listen of the album, I went back and listened to the song four times in a row. The guitar in it is good, but I don't know... I tried, but didn't suck me in. If anything, I found myself drawn to the light touches of the glockenspiel. Perhaps it's just that these jams don't sound fresh to me, listening in 2025. I'm sure they were decades ago. I think my favourite track here is actually the most pop of the lot, "Wait Until Tomorrow". There's something about the steady beat and the vocal harmonies that stabilize the song, establish a point of focus, for Hendrix to run circles around. Ironically, I found it to be where his guitar work shone the most. At the end of the day, what I find interesting only shows up in snippets, and it's not an album I loved. Fav tracks: Wait Until Tomorrow, Castles Made of Sand, Bold as Love

Bleh
Vähän liian rento alkuun. Bold as love on loistava. Muuten vähän tylsistyin.
Musically quite cool but boring and repetitive. I feel like everything from this era is going to be the same. I'm not doing an 8 hour trip on shrooms to enjoy a poxy 40 minute album
I appreciated some mean guitar playing, but I didn't think there was much in the way of good songs. I found this one quite ignorable.
Not as good as Taylor Swift
Some good songs but I think these Hendrix albums don’t have the same impact now as they did when they were first released and reviewed. Jimi’s techniques have been discovered and incorporated into everything - 50 years of other guitar players doing this kinda take the shine off the OG material
Little Wing is a fantastic song and Castles Made of Sand is really good. The rest, not so much. Jimi might’ve been a guitar god, but he was not a songwriting wizard
Obviously Hendrix’s guitar skills are undeniable, but some of the extra noises and effects added to a few of the songs are grating and I had to skip (example: EXP).
Lige gyldigt Hendrix.
I mean, it's good, but not my speed. A little noodly at points.
Could be worse, not really my thing.
It was okay. I liked some of the songs.
Thought maybe this would be more interesting because I was only familiar with Little Wing, and that was only due to a cover version on Layla by Derek and the Dominos. Alas, this was pretty blah, with short songs and so-so guitar work.
This was pretty meh tbh.
I understand that Hendrix is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but talent does not necessarily translate into listenability.
Great skill does not equal great music. Man, this just wasn’t for me. Couldn’t finish because I felt angry at wasting my own time.
little wing
Same as l'autre, très meh
Not an album I will enjoy going back to. Very forgettable, even though I like jimi hendrix
Early Hendrix...
Liked most of the tracks, but not all.
It‘s too annoying in its whole length that some few gems („Little Wing“) don’t make my low interest switch into awe.
2.5
The best Jimi Hendrix songs are actually Stevie Ray Vaughan songs
Little Wing is here, but not much more.
Not really something I liked, I appreciate the artistry though.
Not my cup of tea 2/5
