Reviews (page 3 of 9)

God how I loved this album in my teens. First contact was of course the big hit „D.A.N.C.E“, but the album is just one great dance experience after the other. Everything flows so seamlessly! It’s hard to overstate how new and exciting this all sounded to me back in the late 00s. There‘s probably just one song I regularly skipped: „Stress“. It‘s not bad per se, but pretty hard to listen to.

This album is sick. It starts off super strong with Genesis and feels like a birth is about to happen. It progresses to a “dance party” with certified bangers and winds down to an “end of the night” feeling. It feels like all stages of entering, dancing, and leaving a nightclub. I enjoyed pretty much every song, except for Stress, but even that song couldn’t bring my rating down. Overall a fantastic experience. Favorite track: D.A.N.C.E.

Justice was able to make one of the greatest electronic music albums of all time by incorporating micro samples with a heavy and dark sound. To this day, there hasn't been an electronic album like it. Moreover, the drums are some of the best I've heard ever, and I can't get enough of the weird 'flipping' noises on the album. Highlights: all, but 1, 3, 5, 6, and 11.

4.5 winner winner

Fat as fuck French funk from da future.

Disco to dance-punk to electroclash. 4.5 but rounded up because I’ll never not be in the mood for this.

I don't normally like dance, but this s*** f'in slaps

This was call electronica that I really enjoy was kinda a heavier version of daft punk

Dope dance tracks

I was turned off by the cover art but this album is fire! Stress is too stressful but the rest are perfect for work or play.

It's a total banger what more can you say. D.A.N.C.E was such a tune at the time, blew my mind

One of my favourite albums of all time. 10/10

Music that could kill a Victorian era child.

YEEEESSSSSS. Following on with a more 'raaargh', metal style on Daft Punk's coattails, this is a glitchier, harder affair, but has the same disco joy. Justice parts 1&2 are pure dance joy, and the rest of the album is great too, sleazy and funky. French Touch is one of those high watermarks of dance music - maybe with all the revivalism at the moment it's due a return (I say optimistically) LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Slaps. 4.5/5

Finally was able to listen to the whole album. Would definitely do it again.

known already, daft punk vibes

Funky, groovy, and unexpected. I loved it!

I remember thinking this was one of the cheasiest albums I have ever heard. I think I can finally appreciate how just genuinely good it is.

This is aggressive.

Very cool and a trip down memory lane. Fun to relisten to an album I didn’t really get into back when it first came out.

Part of the new Daft Punk revival movement of the late 00’s. Lots of nostalgia but, like then, it doesn’t blow me away. Feel like there were others that did this better

I don't need to listen to this again to know this is one of the best french house and electronic releases out there. Nothing comes close to how infectious and powerful these songs feel. It deserves to be on the electronic pantheon along Daft Punk's Discovery.

"Genesis" is a certified banger. "D.A.N.C.E" is great. I also really like "One Minute To Midnight". "Phantom" and "Phantom Pt. II" are great. Pretty much the whole album is great. Don't really dislike anything on the album. The Party is probably my least favorite track.

I've liked this album for almost 2 years now. It's very enjoyable, especially as a Daft Punk fan who loves well-written house music. It's also a strong album throughout, the exception maybe being that song about partying or something.

funky operatic French house. The appropriate amount of crunch and positivity. still fresh after all these years!

Bangers

Great fun french electro pop. Faves: D.A.N.C.E, Phantom Pt. II, The Party

The best ! I loved it before, and now just as much.

Ok so I prepared myself for a guilty pleasure down memory lane of summer parties in 2008 - revisiting what might possibly have been just a fad of the time … but no - this is an absolute Ed Banger of a record - track after track of stylish grooves, distorted synths packaged to perfection and some downright plain good songs. End to end fantastic and nothing short of 5 stars would give this album Justice.

Was very excited when I saw this as I have listened to it before and was a huge fan of D.A.N.C.E when it first played on MTV. I am not the biggest fan of electro dance, but this is punchy and funky

Huge fan of Justice. They did a revolution in the Electro industry. So well produce ! +++

Electro duet from France, Justice broadened my musical horizons with this release, at the time. With the album “Cross”, it was the first time that I appreciated more “heavy” electro music. My last spin on this record was a few years ago and I have to say I'm quite impressed listening to it with my ears today. It’s 2000s electro, but nothing has aged badly. It could have come out yesterday. Finally, was this album avant-garde? We can detect bass lines and "strings" quite nu-disco. The inclusion of touches of classical music and funk makes it more timeless too, I imagine. Everything is "toned" to perfection, the drum'n'bass is in reinforced concrete, it's quite arranged and licked while allowing itself to be noisy and without concession. Nice rediscovery for me.

The album ominous with ominous horns and timpani - like we are entering some dark nether world. And so begins a 49 minute danstravagastic journey! Thoughts as I listened… “Genesis” is an amazing opening. Intensely focused. A dark epic. Awesome. Then it translates to “Let There Be Light” that takes us from intensity to shining. This is going to be a fun ride I think… “D.A.N.C.E.” frolicked in all that new light and is so catchy and fun! And the disco party continues on a bright note with “Newjack.” All those samples! WOW! I can’t figure out what any of them are but this is some remarkable work. “Phantom” has me thinking about the soundtrack to the movie Phantasm… and as it transitions to “Phantom, Pt. II” I’m pretty sure I have a few selections for my next Halloween disco party. More lyrics from “Tthhee Ppaarrttyy” and I love that vocal! Reminds me of Ke$ha. Lots of fun. Then “DVNO” goes hard on the dance floor with a much more serious sounding vocal. What is “DVNO?” According to wikipedia it stands for “Divino.” Which didn’t really clarify anything for me… should it? “Stress” really lives up to its name. Love the music but it does build the stress! I think I hear some “Night on Disco Mountain” in there? Likely since I read that they sampled from 400 albums… crazy! (Note: Shortly after writing this I read the wikipedia page and found out I was right!) “Waters of Nazareth” is another harder dance track. I love that Justice knows how to arrange the album so that these harder tracks are modulated by the rest of the album. I like this one a lot. The finale “One Minute to Midnight” is an epic ending. Really feels like I have take a journey listening to this album. Loved the vocals. The instrumentals are off the hook. Samples run amok in the best way. Synthesizers pound and throb. Incredible production! I love this album. Sign me up to this opera-disco anytime!

classic album

Some say soccer is just a competition between great actors. Well, I can’t act like I don’t like this album. I also can’t help but think it’s because of Peter Bresnik, who surely got me into it. A dancey time was had. Not a classic, but can’t give it less than 5

Oof took me back to first hearing them and then the covert at Union Transfer. A couple of tracks don’t reach the heights of the others, but the others are so good it’s impassible not to give this five stars.

Superb

ich werde Justice niemals nicht geil finden

Made me like electronic music

I just loved it!!!!😍😍😍😍

Yes. First 3 songs are bangers.

This fucking album. This was on HEAVY rotation for me during the first half of college. I have heard this album at least 100 times. I listened to it while jogging, while partying, even while cleaning the house. It has the the simultaneous power to chill you out while it also pumps you up.

So grimey! Loved it! More depth than just "D.A.N.C.E."

Oh wow this takes me back to my friend introducing me to this band as a teenager, still a bop!

Brought me back to middle/high school when I heard this group the first time!

A great combination of beat and melody. This album takes French House a step further. The beats and resonant, solid, and occasionally glitchy while the melodies are memorable. Essentially, this album doesn't sacrifice musicality for the sake of the beat. It is one of the best electronic albums ever and still sounds fresh.

Awesome

Geht voll ab Bisschen viel los Viel Druck Synthies!

Que discazo!!!! Excelente! Una maravilla!

Freaking awesome. Don't know how I missed this one. Love it.

Start to finish banger.

Justice's Cross is a punchy and in your face Dance/EDM/House record that is one to get you really going either on the dance floor or one to pump you up. I love that singles are still played out on the youth radio station in my country. Their clever use of samples and hundreds of microsamples throughout are a showing that music can truly be anything you make of it. Best: Genesis; D.A.N.C.E.; One Minute to Midnight Worst: Hard to pick a bad song in the entire album. Each song captured my attention from the get-go and didn't let me go.

Spannend ... filmmuziek? Nope, elektrotechniek! I love it!

My sort of music, a happy new discovery

Love it. :)

Groovy

NSF UnderCover OST

THAT’S MY SORT OF THING

Saved Prior: D.A.N.C.E. Cutting Edge Tier: 12. Waters of Nazareth Saved Tier: 11. Stress 10. One Minute to Midnight 9. Phantom 8. Newjack 7. Valentine 6. Phantom Pt. II 5. Genesis 4. DVNO 3. D.A.N.C.E. 2. Let There Be Light 1. The Party Overall Notes: A remarkably consistent electronic album. The main pitfall of electronic albums for me is that some of the songs drag on for a bit too long, but at 48 minutes for 12 songs this is just about the perfect length for the songs to breath without overstaying their welcome. Only knew D.A.N.C.E. going in, and that is definitely the outlier of the album. It's a lot darker and dirtier than that single, but in the best way possible. Daft Punk have their influence here, but they were also in turn influenced by this mammoth of an album. Incredible stuff.

High school nostalgiaaa so effen good

Such a good album. I haven't played it in a while. I used to listen to this a lot with my student when I first started teaching. I think I saw them live at some point too. Still sounds fresh.

I wish I had found this group earlier. I love it and have found so much through the too. Definition of a five.

Immaculate. Fun and profound. Silly and epic. Love

Great electronic album. I knew the single but didn't know the artist or expect the album to be so good.

Such a ground breaker - the rock influence makes the disco very approachable for non-EDM fans. Hard not to bop along and feel like it's time to dance.

That was a lot of fun, better than I anticipated

What is it about the French and excellent electronic music? Jean-Michel Jarre, Daft Punk, M83, Air, Justice. Love it.

Surprisingly good to work to.

B/c it's smarter than you think it is but as dense as you'd hope it would be, Justice's debut is a massive success. The duo samples like DJ Shadow, but the American is all heart and all cerebellum whereas these Frenchies, tho they got some heart & some brain, are mostly in it for a good time. At the end of the day, they make pop music, & being impressive composers of actual songs, they're responsible for some pretty great pop music. I know where I was when this came out, but all I heard from it was that ubiquitous 'D.A.N.C.E.,' & I never paid it any mind. That track happens to be only one of twelve memorable songs that populate this now classic record. It's a work of art that's never boring not b/c of its somatic ideal but in spite of it.

Dummy's will say this album is trash. dummy's don't know it's for mixing live.

i’m a notorious justice rejecter - not because it’s bad, just because i’m a lyrics person and i cannot emotionally connect to music that goes untz untz untz for an hour. that being said, this is good and i cannot disrespect my husband by giving it anything less than a 4.

The grooviest album of 2007

A very fun and easy to listen through electronic album. I had heard one song before but never anything else from this band and the other songs were what I was expected, in a good way. I would love to have a few faster songs mixed in but that doesn't change that most of the songs fit really well together and definitely some songs added to lists for later playback.

And a half. Brilliant

First time I've thought about Justice in years

Excellent, one of my go to's out a run (4.5)

I am 18 years old again playing D.A.N.C.E upstairs Diceys and nobody likes it but fuck I love it

This is a surprisingly fun album. Especially considerinh how much work went into arranging and programming it. It still sounds fresh and light and like a good motivator on a Monday coming to work - or leaving for the weekend on Friday.

Shocked by how much I loved this. It had funk, it had stank, it was really fun to listen to. DANCE unlocked some core memories playing it on a dancing game on the Wii in the early 2010s. Great intro to this style of music

This was banging.

This is an interesting discovery! Before today, my knowledge of French electronic music stalled after Air and Daft Punk, Justice have added a new, harder edge to the group. Although the opening 4 tracks aren't particularly memorable, Phantom grabs your attention and then there are multiple highlights, such as DVNO, Waters Of Nazareth and the stand-out Stress that is a full on sensory experience, thrilling and unsettling at each beat. A slow start that became a satisfying find. A solid 4 stars.

I remember tracking this album down after hearing “D.A.N.C.E.” for the first time, and I feel the same way about it now as I did then. I like it. The beats are great, the production is huge, and you can’t help but get pulled into the groove on most of the tracks. This is a great electronic album, full of energy and personality without overstaying its welcome. More than anything, it instantly transports me back to the late 2000s. Good times.

Those French people know how to write good electronic music! (3.5 up)

Never listened to the full album, but it feels like one long flashback to the 2000s explosion of dance music with daft punk and deadmaus blowing up, this could arguably be the third leg to that stool.

An electronica album where you actually wanna get down to? Sign me up!

Electronic music with slap bass, very good combo. DNCE is the standout song where the beats, samples and groovy basslines mix in the best way. Compared to Daft Punk which this draws from, Justice presents a more varied soundscape with more movements. Making the songs structured more like a rock or pop song. Its best ideas are on the first half of the record though.

Ahh yes, Justiiis - Cross. One of the only good experiences I ever had while being high, was lying on my back with the speakers just above my head listening to New Jack. 🤯

A few songs you could maybe do without but still a great modern album 4.5*

Like Daft Punk but with a cinematic feel

Justice’s album Cross is a masterclass in French touch evolution, breathing new life into their discography with seamless, high-energy transitions. The "Genesis" track serves as a powerhouse opener, setting a cinematic tone that immediately grabs your attention, while the bassline on "Phantom Pt. II" is nothing short of "sick," providing a gritty, driving pulse that anchors the set. The album shines during its peak club moments: "DVNO" remains a clean, crisp, and undeniably groovy dance anthem, while the live rendition of "Stress" is masterfully hypnotic, perfectly capturing that titular anxiety before offering a much-needed sonic release at the end. For those seeking a deeper, industrial edge, "Waters of Nazareth" delivers a complex, distorted landscape tailor-made for a dark, underground rave. While the mid-section of the record occasionally dips into "meh" territory with less impactful fillers, the highlights effectively channel the soulful bounce of Kaytranada and the robotic precision of Daft Punk, making it a worthy, if slightly uneven, journey through Justice’s iconic sound.

Absolutely a jam in fine Daft Punk tradition, but maybe a little too samey

4/5. I will openly admit that electronic music is my largest musical blind-spot. It’s the broad umbrella genre that I’ve heard the least albums in and know the history of the least. what I do know though is that Cross by Justice absolutely slaps. That opening punch of Genesis+Let there be light+D.A.N.C.E. Is some great stuff. The magic to this album is the sheer amount of distortion, which gives it such an interesting sounding texture relative to other electronic/dance albums from its time.

4.5) pure pleasure

It’s the summer of 2007. In six months the banks will fold in on themselves and times will get tough, tougher than these millennial kids have probably ever seen. They’re going to need to D.A.N.C.E. to make it through this, and Justice will be right there with them. Right now though? It’s the summer of 2007. Party on.

Really like this album a lot - listened to a few of the tracks on here back when I had a phat sub and 6x9 speakers in my old car. Best days. Really dig the 'hot' production on this stuff. Favourite tracks: Let There Be Light, D.A.N.C.E, Phantom Pt. II, DVNO, Stress, Waters of Nazareth, One Minute to Midnight.

Face-melting

Yes yes yes! Love the French DJs and electronica. This is AWESOME.

Once I got over it being electronic it was fine

1. TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY 2. DVNO 3. stress hm: new jack, D.A.N.C.E

This is a fun album with some amazing song writing and danceable jams

TAKE ME TO FRENCH EDM SCHOOL PLEEEEEEAAAASSEEEEEE

Electro disco beats. Very similar to Daft Punk with a smidge of Deadmau5. Serious electrofunk: "Newjack", "Phantom", "Waters of Nazareth"

Relisten So close to a 5/5 but the two vocal tracks are really annoying and break up the album in a really bad way. The rest of it is fantastic, I just can't listen to TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY without getting a little angry Favorite Tracks: D.A.N.C.E., Waters of Nazareth, New Jack, Phantom Pt 2 Least favorite: TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY, DVNO 4.5/5

Amazing debut album that kicked off an entire resurgence of punk. Chocked full of hooks and great riffs

fun! 3.5-4ish

i really like this

Hated the opener, which coloured my entire first listening. Which scared me because wiz-kid sez that means I have 0 taste. So I took his advice and shuffled, started off at D.A.N.C.E Much better. Even the baby vocals started working for me. Opera Disco, more surprises from the list!

This seems like a very well-produced album. The sound has a nice richness/depth to it. This isn't the type of music I usually gravitate towards, but I found this pretty cool. I've heard D.A.N.C.E. before (so much at the hive) and it's a great track! Controversially, I actually really like TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY! There's something satisfying about the pairing of that type of melody & lyrics with the underlying synth harmonies. It's a well-thought-out album with great cohesion.

A monolith of music. Totally incredible and intense. Impressive as a first album. Conformed as a flow of songs more than individual ideas. Making the best way to listen: in its entirety for a better context. But i'm not feeling a 5 or 4.5. I don't know why. Maybe too much cohesion.

I think the video for Stress gave me my first stoned panic attack. This album rules.

It's a bit crazy album but... I'm here for it all. I didn't think I would like this one at all, but it's been such a funny album at many times, and I've found it pretty interesting too. It's not the kind of music I use to listen to, and electronic music is not usually my cup of tea, but this album is surprising in very different ways. I've loved listening to it, and it's also a pretty strange and chaotic record, but I've been completely trapped and amazed by that chaos. I may not listen to this album much, but it's been really interesting and even enjoyable.

Tremendo d.a.n.c.e y genesis

This is really good, enjoyed a lot of it. But some songs just don't do it for me

I think I was close to giving this 5 stars - it's a surprisingly good electronic dance album. Highlight: "Genesis"

This is one of my favorite electronic albums.

I'm not normally a fan of dance music outside a club. But in this case it's different. Oh yeh, you can dance to the music. But there is more to it than a recurring beat and a simple melody. Cleverly structured and built songs also simply worth listening to.

I concur. Brings back great memories of Glasto. Not listened to Justice since then but thoroughly enjoyed. You can’t argue, it’s a great dance album.

Brings back happy memories of being fucked in a field at glasto xx

Vivid flashbacks of dancing on mdma with Glowstix at Glastonbury to Justice, light shows and live act be ace Heard this album before, is decent. in the right scenario : v.good. DVNO major highlight. 3.5 to 4. I'll round it up.

Great album great band. Fond memories of seeing these live will live with me forever

Great fun, high energy, good time.

I like this style of music in general, and I think this is a pretty good example of it, but I don't think it quite measures up to Daft Punk at their best for me. Still sneaks a four.

More interesting than usual electronic music.

First half went absolutely stupid, second half left a bit to be desired. Still banged. Fave track: D.A.N.C.E

Absolutely based inclusion. Not sure how it’s possible for anyone to rate this album lower than a 4 after hearing that opening track, but whatever. 4/5

Dance heavy

This one passed me by but I like it, very much in the Daft Punk mold of French electronica. I live in France now so can impress my French friends that I’ve heard of them!

yeah, some good french electronic dance stuff

This is fun. Not my cup of tea.

I have liked this album since it came out. It definitely has always sounded like a B-tier Daft Punk, but some songs are very close and some just as good, just slightly different approach than Daft Punk. Ultimately, I don't think the entire album is as great as the first two Daft Punk albums, but I will continue to spin this every once in a while.

Really cool

Such a solid electronic album, wasn't perfect but loved the listen.

The opening track, "Genesis", is a stone-cold banger. The rest mostly holds up very well. Too bad Justice was just a bit late to the Techno music boom. Equal or better than most work by Daft Punk, The Prodigy, and Chemical Brothers.

This is a complete vibe of an album. Not what I was expecting but it’s really cool. Like this was a complete bop. I don’t usually listen to electronic but this was awesome. I really loved Phantom. I thought it was a standout track. Its sequel was awesome as well. I also really enjoyed TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY. It was different than the rest, but worked well. This album was a nice breath of fresh air. 4/5 ⭐️ 62/1089

Will always love DANCE, nostalgia at its best.

This is bringing me back to a very specific time in high school that honestly I kind of loved (aside from hating most of high school). That being said, I think I only know three of these songs. I feel like I am right on the precipice of indie sleaze.

Overall: 8/10 This is the closest an album has ever gotten to making me feel the way that Daft Punk's best work makes me feel, and that's a huge compliment coming from me. It didn't all work, but there were a lot of bangers on here. Fav Song: Stress

Pretty good electronic album. Would make a good soundtrack to an indie game.

4/5, one of my favorite albums as a teenager/young adult. Some songs are way better than others. Favorite song: Genesis

Tell me why I saw the album cover and unconsciously decided this was going to be some screaming emo music and was then very much surprised when electronic music started playing. I ended up actually really liking this despite having zero clue about 'French House' (this also means I can't give any insight into what I actually liked about this, it just sounded nice). I'd say there's definitely a time and mood for this but ngl I kind of loved it.

I got up and had a dance party

A ton of fun. Really, this album bangs.

hell yeah. a truly enjoyable listen

Truena chido.

So fun with a tinge of nostalgia.

some say that justice is actually daft punk in another helmet but they are just so different! They could make the album shorter but thats not good for the club goers. Indeed it’s something that is designed to listen in a late night party while you dont know what you are doing and everybody are dancing aggressively in the pit. 4/5

3.7 2x nice electronic

Genesis has been on my playlist for a long time, it's an absolute banger. If it comes on when I'm driving then speed limits suddenly don't seem to mean much. I didn't ever bother to search out any other Justice tracks though. Which is a shame as this is a really strong album.

Without Justice, we wouldn’t have Daft Punk

Katie was surprised I haven't heard of this album before, and there's songs in here I definitely had heard of, but this is so out of my usual genres and tastes that it doesn't surprise me I haven't heard of them. What did surprise me is how much I enjoyed the entire thing! I will say I liked the heavier tracks like the opener to songs like D.A.N.C.E , perhaps because I associate that song with adverts at this point. That all said I think this album has held up shockingly well for a genre that tends not to weather time well. It's a very high 4 for me, which again, kinda shocked me considering my usual hate for electronic-pop music.

I've been meaning to listen to this for a while now, so this was a good excuse. Pretty fun record!

Glad they threw in some boyfriend music

Austin loves so I do too <3 also it’s just generally a banger so

Been listening to these albums at the gym and this is the first one that felt like appropriate gym music

Reaaaaaaally fun. A typa music I honestly never actively put on but great to listen to. Listened to this while watching flyover videos of coral reefs, incredibly good pairing. Faves: Newjack, DANCE, TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY

Used to listen to this loads, a shame I've gone so long without listening, and maybe a shame that they were hailed as the next daft punk due to being a french electronic duo, but always felt like they scratched a different itch, and never really reached the heights of this album. Love the "revvy" distorted sound incorporated throughout Some of my favourite moments - Godzilla theme opening to Genesis - Transition from Phantom into Pt 2, and the way Pt 2 incorporates the melody of DANCE - Waters of Nazareth intro How did "The Party" come out like 2 years before Kesha's "Tik Tok"?

Basically just Daft Punk if they were French. And Good. The whole thing flows really nicely with transitions between songs happening seamlessly. I normally struggle to get into electronic music but I've thoroughly enjoyed this from the first listen. 4.5

Love to see Justice here, this album goes hard and I still haven’t heard anything that sounds quite like this

Give it a 4

This style of music not really my jam, and... This one is pretty damned good. Infectious, and really well arranged. Found myself moving to this one

This would have been a 5 had it not been for the couple of tracks with vocals. Excellent otherwise

Bring on the designer drugs! The cover imagery and the song titles do not prepare someone for the content contained within this album. Keeping up the tradition of French electronic, Justice comes out of the gate hot with this debut release.

4.5/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/justice/%E2%80%A0-cross/ Still as much of a banger as when it was released, almost 20 years ago. Loved it then, love it now. All killer no filler (unlike their follow-up albums).

I love how the album cover kind of looks like a cross between Master of Puppets, Death Magnetic and (with the name of the band) And Justice For All. Luckily (since I wasn't in a metal mood) I knew it was nothing like Metallica; I actually bought a Justice album (Woman) a few years ago, after hearing a groovy track somewhere or other, and I currently have precisely four of their tracks on my dance playlist, including D.A.N.C.E. I really like their sound; a sort of relentless, heavy dance beat with almost industrial electronic noises. And when the odd track comes on during my playlist, I definitely carry on throwing a few shapes. But as an album, I truthfully got a bit fed up. It's the same with Woman - I rarely put it on. 4 stars though, because it stands up well to some of the other cool funky stuff that was coming out around this time (and there was a lot; the noughties and couple of years thereafter seemed to be a great time for European dance music) and it's just, well, groovy innit.

man this album still rocks, bloghouse still rocks, france still rocks...

Not bad but a little bloated. Low 4 I'd say.

I remember liking those first two tracks like 20 years ago, haven't heard them since. Probably used then as my ring tone or were they from a commercial?

The log line made me think bargain bin Daft Punk, but Justice is legit. My apologies, I was not familiar with your game.

Dance!

i realy like it it has a good paste and a fun and viby sound

Gritty. Super fun. Couple of songs that were a little too abstract for me but generally loved the whole thing.

So fun! A delight!

ja conhecia. DANCE ouvia muito na adolescência.

Crazy, erratic, and yet sounds very modern and engaging. Every song has at least a moment or two of total chaos that didnt always land for me, but there is a consistency that carries through and makes for an enjoyable listen. Tougher listen in the beginning when you're trying to figure out what the album wants to do, but very fun by the end. Definitely worth a relisten. Top tracks: Phantom Pt 2, Stress, One Minute to Midnight

Don’t think I recognised the duo’s name, but feel like the first track is instantly recognisable (maybe just the sample?) and I’m here for some dirty beats… Much better than Daft Punk imo and enjoying the unfolding, grimy nature of it. DANCE also very familiar and nice mix. Can feel myself losing a bit of interest half way through after getting the gist. Maybe just par for the course of listening to a dance album, led down in the middle of the day. Some drop offs but good enough for 4* and that’s listening at home 🤘

Nasty beats and consistently fun.

Banger album.

Bunch of bangers

Liked it much more second time around

The dissonance is at times jarring but really like the album

Nice dance music, really good

Not bad, but not really my thing.

Great album! Didn’t realize DANCE was their song

Lovely dan/electronic album that goes hard and gets me moving.

I would say I didn't really LOVE this but it was a good listen, esp the big tracks Genesis and D.A.N.C.E. It's a bit of a bummer what a rip off of the early Daft Punk sound this is. BUT on the other hand it is really rocking and a great execution so ultimately I think it's worthwhile.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I probably wouldn’t have liked this so much had I not listened to it at the gym, which turned out to be the perfect time and place for this! I thought one or two songs could have been left out, but this was still a fun/energetic listen.

Like a more dirty, pissed up, pissed off Daft Punk. Bone rattling bass, crisp pop hooks, squelchy glitchy beats and a side eye to anyone who doesn't want to D.A.N.C.E. Best Tracks: Genesis, D.A.N.C.E.; Waters of Nazareth

For any other electronic album, I would’ve given the same critiques that the album went on for too long or was too uninteresting to keep my attention, but this is first I’ve listened to so far that I really enjoyed. I was actually invested all the way through. Solid listen.

Hell yeah

Soooo good! Justice is operating almost at the level of Daft Punk here--it's a textbook case of dueling French electronic music duos. (Up next: Polo & Pan.)

Lot of variation for electronic album. Never heard of these guys but really enjoyed it.

Me likey. Gets me moving and feeling like a robot

Fun one. Enjoy this one quite a bit. 4/5

DANCE is a banger my kids love - upbeat electronic - love it

How have I not heard of this? It was very cool, even if it dropped off a bit towards the end.

Bouncy

Well the first 2 tracks had me believing that it was just 1 song. I was at the point where I was going to skip it. If you know me, no singing, no bueno. Technically 0-2 right now though the music hits. I knew DANCE. There’s no beating that one on this album. Damn catchy. I’d say these guys are a branch of Daft Punk. That’s the best I can sum it up. I wish there were more vocals on this. In my opinion it would have been a 5 star. Choice cut: DANCE

Let's get weird!

The beats go so hard

Forgive my ignorance but I didn't know who Justice were and when this album cover came up I thought I was going to be required to tolerate another metal album (it reminded me of Ministry name and imagery). Such a relief this was actually French dance music ala Daft Punk. A few listens in and it's generally full of delights that keep me interested, despite many reviews here and on Rym saying that it goes on too long. There is an element of these electronic albums where you want the length to be able to immerse yourself, or lose yourself to dance.

Since I do different drugs electro isn’t usually my jam but this slaps. Between the synth programming and all the samples they nail every sound they’re trying to make.

This was so fun. Had me beepin and boppin

Kawał dobrej elektroniki, Justice to mega solidny duet, o wyrazistym brzmieniu.

Some high quality French electro-rock/house, (sh*t I don't know what to call it), but regardless, this was sweet! Already a fan of Daft Punk, so I might have to dive into the French electro rock scene more.

A classic for the genre

Sounds a lot like Tron, I liked!

Music for running headfirst into walls (complimentary). One of my favorite electronic releases this list has introduced me to (although I was familiar with “Genesis”; glad to hear the rest of the album is worthy of such a banging opener.) Fun, lush, and hard-hitting. Great driving music.

I already knew and liked 1/4 of the songs, so that's always a good sign. Some have very jarring instruments though.

Although light-years better than most of the junk on here, it's not quite a 5 star album

I wasn’t expecting to like this album much, but I enjoyed it a lot. I really like the groove that’s on the record, and I will say that I heavily respect Justice for making a song that features a children’s choir that doesn’t make me want to stick needles in my eardrums. I also appreciate that despite being a dance album, none of the songs fall into the trap of including excessively long songs. 4/5

This album is so tight and I love the bass guitar usage. I remember it coming out and finding it effortless to listen to and enjoy. Great headphones or car speaker while driving album.

Not my usual thing, but really enjoyed this. Hard hitting, rocky techno in the Daft Punk vein.

Great instrumentals, really enjoyed the darker and heavier instrumental songs but the ones with vocals were underwhelming.

A gaye night out in Paris. Much more coherent as an album than the singles would suggest. Surprising musical depth given the poptastic sounds

Listened 4 star

Genesis // D.A.N.C.E. // Phantom Pt. II // Stress //

I really dug this, it had some funk elements to it. For the first time ever, I thoroughly enjoyed an instrumental album other than Kaytranada so this is a lovely day!

loved it as a kid love it now Fav song: Waters of Nazareth

great stuff

wow! ok, finally a EDM album I like! it was worth the wait :) I listened to it twice

I’m pretty sure I saw them at Lollapalooza when this album was big. Genesis, DANCE, and Phantom Pt 2 are favorites. IIRC, second half of the album kinda falls off a bit. Time to see if I remember correctly. Later: It is as I recall, although DVNO is fun.

It is pretty good, I don't really love the genre but there are some hits here Will I listen to again: 40%

Gen Z think this is Daft Punk. Two French guys who hide their faces and make techno music? Maybe I think this is Daft Punk. Is this Daft Punk? You would be a daft punk to not think this is not is Daft Punk. The one song with the child speaking/talking/“singing” about going to the club and getting drunk needs to be put in time out and their parent put on a list. 7/10

I wish modern EDM sounded like this. I could listen to this all day.

i like

it may drag in the middle but make no mistake. this is some high-class stuff. Stress, Waters of Nazareth, Dance, Genesis? whew. club classics for sure. anyone filtered by Tthhee Ppaarrttyy is not to be trusted deserves to be one of the 1001? forget all the Daft Punk comparisons. the legacy of this album to electro house cannot be overstated. this is some important shit and it absolutely needs to be here if you give a shit about dance music

Favs: Genesis; Phantom I/II; Let There Be Light

already listened to it, one of my favourite electronic albums

Like what they did with this. Dont know anything about edm though.

Strong 4

All the sounds on this are so well textured. Especially the bass, the bass is great. Also I love albums where the songs transition into each other.

This is so cool. Really well developed and the variety is awesome

First time I listened to this, I thought "this kind of sounds like Dollar Store Daft Punk." Turns out they're also French folks signed to the same label. Thought it was decent, but I'm in the office by myself, so I turned it up as loud as I could and it's quite good.

SOOO GOOD, I knew a couple songs already but listening the the album as a whole is a new experience, I have to say my fave song on it is still Genesis 8.5/0

I loved this back in 2007 and it still holds up pretty well. A side is much stronger than B side which keeps this from a 5 but this is a wonderful electronic album styled as rock music. Justice is top tier electronic.

this album grabbed me, i fuckin loved it, the french dance revolution was just insane, i love the style, it’s just high quality dance music, all elements of each song just play around each other with perfect synchronicity, everything just works, but it’s not as good as discovery by daft punk

I didn't expect to enjoy this but it was really good. It's still a lot of repeating blips and bloops but there is enough variation here to keep me interested.

This is why I'm using this album generator: to find things I would not listen or look for by myself. This is very different but it's good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Never heard of these guys before. When the album art came up, I assumed it was some kind of metal. Very easy to listen to. Added to my library.

Liked the beats, felt like i was in some of these cringey animation memes (i loved it). It's just not my personal type of music to listen.

Hell yea

In 2007, I saw Justice at a truly shambolic festival - the acoustic stage had been cleverly positioned to be drowned out by the dance tent, there weren't enough toilets or bar staff so the queues were horrendous, and the food vans had sold out by early afternoon. So, by the time Justice came on after dark, a lot of the crowd had given up and left, and those of us who had stuck it out were hungry and pissed off. And yet I still remember how much I enjoyed their set, which I think is a testament to how good this album is. It can force you to have fun despite yourself.

You know, it's stuff like this that really makes my disliking of certain other albums even more apparent. How can there be so many electronic albums that have no energy, lack memorable songs and moments, and go on for way too long when you can have albums like this that are the complete opposite? This album's great! Maybe the French are just better at making electronic music than the British. Then again, the British have Aphex Twin. Whatever. Justice made a great debut album here. The production is excellent. The music here just feels more... sonically full? Does that make sense? Other albums kind of feel empty in comparison. The songs here are cool. I could maybe how someone could call the album a little repetitive, but I did find a number of songs that stand out, like the opening "Genesis," the spectacular "D.A.N.C.E," and the endlessly fun "DVNO." But do you want to know what this album really has going for it that too many EDM albums just get so wrong? Cross is only 48 minutes long. That's... a normal album a length. Not too short, not too long. It's perfect. I can't do the rave shit for 70+ minutes, which causes other albums to fail. This? It plays out for the perfect length without dragging at all. It's great. This is definitely an essential listen for anyone looking to get into electronic music. If I liked it as much as I did, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. High 4/5.

Couldn't believe how much I liked this, there was a moment when the French really had a monopoly on making the best dance music

Listening to this, all I see is some mash-up of Jeff Bridges as the Dude and as Flynn from Tron breaking it down in a Tron-verse discotheque, and it fills with me an indomitable desire to rip some molly and tear it up with him (4.5 stars)

Big time Daft Punk vibes here and I actually found it a more enjoyable listen than Homework.

omfggggggg i forgot how much i was a justice girly growing up! this album changed me! i just wanna dance!!! shake ass! drink! shake some more ass! make out! have a good time! live like i'm partying with the hiltons in 2007!!!! i really was an electronic dance girlypop for a minute, almost forgot

D.A.N.C.E has a really fun vocal - I haven't heard anything quite like it. I wondered if it was too chirpy for me! But it's good! There's lots of energy and I appreaciated it but it didn't often get me dancing, unfortunately! I'd have it on in the shower or doing energetic work! I was looking for an emotional centre; what it was about. E.g. Daft Punk I feel have that. "Valentine" moved me. I was dancing to Newjack. Phantom I & II felt similar to me and I prefered II. I prefer when Cross gets angry, abrasive and choppy rather than trying to convince that it's cool and in the club. I like tracks like "Stress", most. I love the mediaeval (zither? dulcimer?) bit! I wouldn't neccessarily put "The Party" on *at* a party, and that's probably a problem for me. Most people are more interesting when they're not in party mode to be honest, and this feels like a similar situation. Waters of Nazareth is great. The fuzzy fuzz really gets in the ears! I like it! I joked that It's sounds like if you slightly annoyed Daft Punk and they needed to vent about you afterwards. I think if I was picking tracks in a rush I'd take the later half of the album, Newjack, Valentine, Stress and Nazareth. I think D.A.N.C.E. would be too much after a while and "The Party"/DVNO was where it slightly annoyed me. DVNO is really smarmy and the vocal has the effect of centering a very annoying character. I had fun with this, it fed my ears with new sounds. I wanted to follow it's experimental punk side more than I got. "Genesis" is an electronic Godzilla, espeicially since hearing in a live recording, it gets people going, it's very good. It's not making me dance or cheer, though! I can understand how it could, and is meant to be a monster track. A shade not pushing though as a high energy dance track to me personally! "Let There Be Light" and its wobbles are settling in nicely!

Some good ones!

Electronic music, reminds a lot of Daft Punk. Enjoyable listen. Favorites include Genesis, DANCE, Phantom II, The Party, DVNO, One Minute To Midnight.

awesome record

Phantom. II är solkar femma, genesis är nog och nosar på en femma också, möjligen let there be light, på en bra dag. Mmm. Fan.

Didn't expect to like this one so much. Great listen!

I feel they picked up where daft punk left (obv before Random Access Memories) Good solid album 81/100

Not bad, probably won't return to much of it, but a bop.

It’s a banger

Muy fresco, muy divertido.

Enjoyable blast from the past

Personally this is the best album ever created

This was an awesome album. I had never heard of Justice, and I enjoyed listening to most of the tracks! Some of the tracks sounded like they could have been on the TRON soundtrack. I love the dark, dirty synth leads! A great find!

I really wanted this one to be a five star album. Turns out I only really love the better half of it, and the worst tracks are irritatingly bad. I have no idea why they thought any of these stupid lyrics could've improved those fantastic instrumentals. If this one doesn't do it, there might not be a single five-star electronic album on this list for me. It is what it is.

First listen and that's amazing.

Justice’s debut crashes into your ears like a distorted sermon on the dancefloor. It’s bold, noisy, and completely over-the-top–and that’s the point. From the thundering opener 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴 to the glittery pop of 𝘋.𝘈.𝘕.𝘊.𝘌. and the unrelenting chaos of 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 builds a sonic cathedral out of electro, disco, and distorted bass. It’s not subtle, and at times it overwhelms, but few records from the 2000s sound this confident and iconic. A maximalist statement that made club music feel dangerous again.

I'm dancing in a video game of lasers and static electricity. It's an interesting fusion with some great sound alchemy and relentless dance beats. I don't quite understand the Christian references other than maybe they are trying to create a religious experience?

Interesting to get two electronic albums back to back that are so different. This album was as rough and edgy as Aphex Twin's was soft and soothing. It reminds me of music from an artist I like named DJ Icey, and I like the "opera-disco" theme. I love the hard beats and party atmosphere it creates. We'll put this one at 2 am rave time, when the party is peaking, and the dance floor is alive and raging. So many funky beats and dancy grooves. I dig it!

Album "fun".

A great dance/electronic album. Definitely Daft Punk inspired, but excellently executed.

A classic, and an album I had heard before. I can see how this one might be polarizing, as Justice has a strong sound that can sometimes border on cacaphpnous. But they really were doing something so unique for the time and changed how electronic music, rock, and pop can all come together. I still enjoy so many of the songs on this album to this day. Overall- from an outside view, probably a 3.5/5, but my person enjoyment bumps it to a 4.

I have been listening to this since I was in high school.

caraaaambooo

Enjoyed this. It felt a lot like Daft Punk and I might give it another listen.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, funky, atmospheric, and varied.

Such a great album! And great band! I remember they reminded me of daft punk the first time I had heard them! Which is a good sign! Top tier album though

Much to my surprise I really enjoyed this

Oli hyvä levy. Tykkään kun tuollaiset samplepohjaiset biisit osataan tehdä, tyylilajiltaan kuten fatboy slim. Mikä ettei

Goth electronica? Evokes images of a distopian cyber dance hall like a club scene in The Matrix or Blade Runner. The precise blend of lo-fi and crystal clear production must’ve been a labor of love for the band while mixing. American alt fans might remember the dark vibes of Genesis or the upbeat groove of Dance and rest of the album sits squarely at the intersection of those two vibes. French Kesha for a comparison of the period. This album will definitely give your amp & speakers a workout while scaring the neighborhood children with its bass. 4/5

Good techno-style dance music. Excellent background music while I'm working.
