Reviews (page 4 of 9)

Grungy clubby party beats. Remember this album cover being pretty ubiquitous, but never gave it a listen. Good stuff.

I remember when this album came out and the world was awestruck by the song and music video for "D.A.N.C.E.". Those t-shirts were indeed mesmerizing, but the song was too, with its distant vocals that sound like they were sampled from something else but I don't think they were. The whole album is a fun mix of retro disco and house sounds with the indie electronica sounds of the 00's. It's French House! And while Justice did not pioneer that style, they did pioneer being interrupted by Kanye West at an MTV awards show, two years before Taylor Swift. Key tracks: D.A.N.C.E. DVNO Stress

Some absolute fucking belters - an innovative and excellent album. Thanks for telling me to listen to it!

Very fun. My toddler loved D.A.N.C.E.

Based on the ominous cover, I was bracing for a full-on electro-exorcism. But surprise! There’s a bouncy, funky, joyful vibe and it was a fun listen. “D.A.N.C.E.” is the one that hooked me; it felt like stepping out of a doomsday sermon to check on the toddler room mid-mass. Even the heavier tracks had a strange momentum that kept me engaged.

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had only listened to their singles before this and it was much better than expected. Like a rough around the edges Daft Punk. Having recently listened to a Broken Record podcast with them I’ll definitely be giving the rest of their catalog a listen and check them out at a show in the future. The sample from Three Six Mafia’s Stay Fly was a fun surprise.

This is an amazing album to run to. Was loving it. Would have given it a 5 except for The Party song which really blew it.

Okayyyyy. I could get down with this!!

I liked this more than I expected. I didn't know anything about the album before listening -- never heard of the album, or the artist, much less any exposure to the music. Reasonably interesting while also being something that doesn't require a lot of focus to enjoy.

I don't usually dig house music, but this is an exception. Pretty good album.

This album brought The Party. My Stress just disappeared like a Phantom.

Also Anfang und Mitte top, danach etwas nachgelassen. Würd immer noch 4 geben, weil ich richtig in Wallung kam teilweise.

How did I miss this during my EDM phase? Liked it a lot.

I love me some EDM. This album was such a vibe to listen to and I can only imagine how much of a blast it would be to dance to this at the club. I would definitely listen to this album again and recommend to others if you like EDM music with rock and disco influences!

Perfect!

Have always liked Justice and this is a cracking album with some bangers (DANCE/ Genesis / Phantom) with great dirty bass lines although quality dips a little towards the end. A high 4. Perhaps would have squeezed a 5 if I'd listened on a better louder hifi.

Cross I remember liking this when it came out, around the same time as Simian Mobile Disco’s first album, and also when they were on a few of the Maison Kitsune albums. But I haven’t listened to it since then, and kind of forgot about them. So it’s great to revisit now, and it still sounds excellent. The obvious comparison is with the similarly French, similarly electronic and similarly two-person Daft Punk. They obviously share some DNA, and while Daft Punk are perhaps slightly more eclectic and take their music into some strange places, I like Justice’s similarly disco influenced but more straightforward and belligerent sound with its excellent dirty, scuzzy basslines, squeaky noises and crunchy sound effects It does perhaps fade in the middle, I’m not as keen on Valentine and The Party feels like a slightly misguided break in the momentum, but it’s also perhaps because the first 5 tracks are so great, that everything after doesn’t seem as good, especially the deliberately strained Stress. Although I do love the string stabs and ABC feel of DVNO, and One Minute to Midnight has a great 80s soundtrack feel, like Delorean Dynamite by Todd Terje. It’s also interesting reading about the sampling, lots of snippets you wouldn’t immediately notice, manipulated and cut up, although the Dr Dre one in D.A.N.C.E. is great. It’s a great electronic album and a great album. Despite the dip in the middle it’s very well sequenced, for an album of similar tempos and structures it never feels fully one note or too repetitive. Easy 4. ✝️✝️✝️✝️ Playlist submission: D.A.N.C.E.

Electronic music has a lot of potential since with electronic modulation tools you can make pretty much any sound imaginable. And since you don't have to know how to play any instrument, it is very welcoming for new artists. However, that accessibility (especially in the recent couple of decades) very quickly oversaturated the genre. I'm not the biggest fan of electronic music precisely because a lot of the artists don't seem to know what they're doing and use the simplest, most regurgitated compositions possible that for me, who used to listen to a lot of electronic music in my teenage years, became stale years ago. And even new trends tend to fall into the pit of mediocrity and self-cannibalization extremely quickly and ultimately fail to evolve (look at something like dubstep or, more recently, drift phonk). But when you encounter an artist who knows how to realize the potential of digital tools, you can discover some of the most interesting experimental music out there. This album is one of the examples. The highs here are very high. I like the satisfying bass and the heavy, noisy sound with constant switch-ups and, apart from one song, no vocals, which I prefer. However, not all of the the tracks are as good as some of the highlights. And that's my main problem with experimental music in general. Sure, some artists can go on for hours, but what usually ends up happening is that some ideas turn out to be a lot better (Genesis, Phantom, DVNO, Stress) than other (Let There Be Light, Waters of Nazareth, One Minute to Midnight). Still, although this album is no Discovery, it is extremely unique and fun. Definitely worth a listen.

I don’t really like much dance music but I’ve always liked French house, for some reason. This album is no exception. Love the big glitchy production and the heavy bass. Best song: D.A.N.C.E

It's a bit too long in my opinion, but Genesis, D.A.N.C.E, both Phantoms, Valentine and One Minute to Midnight are so excellent, I'll be giving this a 4.

the french can be forgiven of the their war crimes after putting out a banger album such as this

Rating: 8.5-9/10 Absolute banger of an album. Electronic music that is loud, punchy, distorted, and so much fun to listen to. The songs are all a reasonable length and are not nearly as repetitive as most of the electronic albums on the list. Will definitely be revisiting.

Solid dance album

Elektronikus baszatós zene túl sok basszussal

Huh, maybe I *do* like electronica?? 🤔

> the Beatles Also, apparently French electronic duos >>> English electronic duos.

Great album overall, though The Party is such an annoying song. Everything else is lovely, on par with daft punk for me

D.A.N.C.E is an all time classic song. This album is some great early electronic music. Reminds me a lot of Daft Punk’s earlier albums, just more glitchy / electronic rather than robotic if that makes sense. Stress, DVNO, great songs.

D.A.N.C.E

Very fun record

I'm not huge on electronic, but this is actually equal times fun and chill, really nice experience.

yeah it rocks

Maybe there's something about this album that distinguishes it from Daft Punk, but I'll be damned to know what it is. More samples? When I think of French electronic dance music, my mind goes immediately to Daft Punk, not Justice. What is so essential about this album above Random Access Memories? Heck if I know. It's a good album, I suppose.

Has some real strong sings, d.a.n.c.e I listened to all the time back in college, and waters of Nazareth go hard. Fun!

This album is great! It did make me feel slight levels of dread though. I'm not sure why haha.

The opener Genesis was definitely used in some luxury car commercial...Mercedes I want to say? Whatever the case, it's a banger for sure. DANCE is a good track but I wasn't feeling super thrilled with this album until I got to The Party (was Ke$ha featured here or something?). From there it ends really strong. DVNO was a late standout. I think it helped that I was doing some work and it helped me get in the zone to actually get my shit done. I was thinking this would be a 3 after the first half, but the 2nd half of the album helped raise this to a low 4.

Just seeing this album cover takes me back to long nights studying to the soundtrack of a Pandora Pretty Lights playlist. Genesis is an epic stage setting piece. Kind of Daft Punk adjacent in tone with a darker edge. D.A.N.C.E is the one that I know Justice for. A catchy AF electro-disco crossover with the bright electro-strings punctuated by deep-throated synth burble and bright vocals. Newjack drops the electro-disco game entirely for a stuttering experiment in cut and slash electronic that shifts continually. Stress is unexpectedly tense -- like something straight out of a thriller. The straight bleedover into Waters of Nazareth is nice. This song scratches a similar itch to some of Deadmau5's work. Solid all around French dance-electro album. I could play this end over end for the next 8 hours and probably never really tire of it. That said there were only a few points on here that really shined brightly for me. So with that this is a high 4.

Cross by Justice was a fun surprise. After calling out an EDM track as my favorite yesterday, the algorithm must’ve read my mind and hit me with a full album of it. And honestly? Not mad about it. This thing is loud, glitchy, funky, and somehow still smooth. Tracks like “D.A.N.C.E.” and “Genesis” are absolute standouts, and even the deeper cuts keep the energy going without feeling repetitive. It's like Daft Punk’s gritty little cousin rolled in neon. Good album all around. Favorite song: Phantom

Highlights: D.A.N.C.E., Genesis. In a nutshell: sticking to the B.E.A.T. is as easy as A.B.C... Cross by Justice continues the French electronica legacy that began with Daft Punk and Air. I feel like I'm playing a 90s video game or listening to an OST for a Tron spin off (even though Tron Legacy wasn't released until 2010) Overall: 8/10

Never listened to the whole album, only the hits. I both listen and make electronic music so this is right up my alley. some tracks are a bit messy for my taste (Let there be light, stress)

High energy electronic music, found it enjoyable throughout, worth a listen

can you believe they made this shit in GarageBand? compared to the only other French house duo I know anything about, Justice leans far more aggressive. as it was explained to me, the French label Ed Banger was home to some of the country's most noisy, in-your-face electro acts in the mid-2000s. Justice's version of this sound is hyperactive, owing to the use of what the group calls "microsampling." it's a little bit like traditional sample chopping, except the fragments you use are much smaller. this leads to a kaleidoscopic, chaotic mix where the timbres being used are constantly in flux, but they're always relentless. mixes that are this crowded usually give me ear fatigue, but you can tell there was a lot of work done to make these songs feel coherent at the same time. I definitely felt weird listening to this while sitting in a chair! strong 8/10.

Listened: 26/02/2025 Album no: 29 % rating: 75% Fave Song: Genesis Looking at the album cover/band name I had no idea who they were but I have 100% heard that first track before. It fucking slaps. This was a total pleasant surprise. Didn’t expect heavy electronica but I’m here for it! Added bonus they’re playing at Electric castle this year and we’re bloody going so I’m gunna get to see them live! Absolute vibes. Love that.

Dancey

I can't explain why I enjoyed this so much, and I'm probably giving it a WAY higher than it deserves, but damnit... it slapped for me!

Got to love some electro house, so this gets stars just for existing. It's nicely put together, with lots of micro-samples, and a throwback beat. I liked this enough for 4 stars, as a late to the party Daft Punk clone. It wasn't enough for 5 stars though, that would require some more originality.

such a fun catchy electric album. a lot of the beats I’ve heard before in covers as well. exciting all the way through

Ah, this is tough. There were some tracks that I’d give 4 stars (especially in the first half, and a few at the end), but the middle dragged it down with some 2 star tracks (The Party, DVNO, Stress). “The Party” especially felt unnecessary. In its high points, though, this is really good electronica - reminiscent of Daft Punk, even. 3.5 rounded up

i've already listened to this many over the years Genesis - 5/5 Let There Be Light - 4/5 D.A.N.C.E - 5/5 Newjack - 3/5 Phantom - 4/5 Phantom Pt. II - 5/5 Valentine - 4/5 The Party - 2/5 DVNO - 3/5 Stress - 4/5 Waters of Nazareth - 5/5 One Minute To Midnight - 4/5 Average score: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ they could've trimmed a few tracks, but this was still very enjoyable and the stronger track make up for the weaker ones and then some (especially D.A.N.C.E)

Hypnotic beats and interesting sounds. 4 stars

A true 00s dance classic, building on from the good work of Daft Punk’s Discovery and Human After All. Lots of glitzy groovin beats and whirring, warring dance-scapes although these days I do prefer the more vocal-based tracks. D.A.N.C.E, DNVO and in particular Tthheeppaarrtty with the wise beautiful chops of Uffie are all absolute 10/10 ace amazing choons of the highest slammingest order.

Most of this album is just a plain good time. D.A.N.C.E. is super catchy. Nothing goes on repetitively for 8 or 9 minutes. Solid.

Bit more than daft punk but not quite full wubs

I don’t like cool soulless jazz tech sounds but this one has some soul!

Un album à l’identité assumée, qui pousse parfois le concept à outrance, mais reste ludique

I haven't listened to this album in years! Good shit!

I liked this album when it came out and I still like it. It bounces around a variety of moods while paying homage to the themes of the earlier tracks. It keeps its heavy atmosphere and tones without being too overwhelming, with the occasional disco song tied in. Unfortunately, some of the songs in the middle of the album loose me and are missing the OOMPH from the beginning and end of the album. 4/5

a dance album with attitude, drama and aesthetic that still feels fresh to this day, it is often imitated but never matched the way the bricky compression and distortion enhances a lot of these beats feels like a perfect storm of influences and it's crazy fun it genuinelly never gets old

Funnily enough I came across this album because theres an undertale mashup with Waters of Nazareth. It's a very fun album, although listening to it again I realize it's not perfect. The best parts are the beginning and the end but the middle is weak, like a burger where the best part is the bun.

Starts strong, but after a while it gets tiring. Maybe that was their intention.

If I had this album 15 years ago when I was still grinding away at Maplestory, I would've hit 200 a year earlier. decent to strong 8/10

weird hearing it alone, by itself, in full, rather than bits and pieces sampled and mashed into other tracks. Really strong intro, strangely weak middle, decent ending, a somewhere 7 but closer to an 8 than a 6.

8/10 It is sorta weird seeing this album get its praise from music nerds after a decade of acceptance from the mainstream and the many records it influenced, we finally see a French House album not made by Daft Punk be perceived as good by everyone including snobs. And on that note, because I’m a whiney bitch, I always kinda hated the Daft Punk comparisons, (“Human After All” exists, we already know what Edgy Daft Punk sounds like and it did not go well), I think Cross does a completely unique and innovative thing here. Well that’s not true, I’m a lying bitch, Cross is still indebted to they who shall not be named, but there’s a better comparison to be made in my mind. Cross is to Cyber Punk what Discovery is to Retro Futurism. Justice takes these sample based fundamentals to an extreme, fusing them with very noisy almost Industrial Electronic music, the sample chops are glitchy and almost synthetic, opposing Daft Punks soulful humanism. It very much embraces a very dark and futuristic aesthetic that soundtracks our humanity’s impending doom (but in a cool way, not in the microplastics killing us and us being smothered by CO2 way). The record does get kinda get samey after a bit, which is really good for an EDM album but I’d prefer some experimentation for a setting like this. All things considered, the best Christian EDM album of all time!

I usually do not enjoy electronic music but holy shit is this good! Funky as hell and never repetitive like some of the other electronic albums I've had so far. Genuine surprise and will definitely be listening again down the road!

An excellent journey of electronic music, paying homage to the 90s dance scene and 70s/80s disco. Each track perfectly blends into the next with beautifully intricate detail. The textures of each synth on every track are uniquely interesting and massive. Best Tracks: - D.A.N.C.E - Phantom (1 & 2) - DVNO - Stress Worst Tracks: - Valentine Rating: 9/10

Hehehe, Daft Punk is one of my favourite musical artists ever, and while I never really got into Justice, they're cool too. The intense dark glitchy vibe isn't totally my thing, but most of these are still bangers and a tour-de-force in production. Also the usage of Genesis in the John Wick 4 staircase scene elevated it to one of my favourite action scenes in all of cinema. Great stuff, I need to listen to their other stuff.

Brilliant in parts and a slightly sub- daft punk in others. Overall quite awesome 4.1

the mixture of sounds and samples of differing infidelities that creates an inviting comfy homemade quality on discovery etc etc channeled towards something that feels a bit more extroverted to me...more club-ready, a wider sensory expression, and best of all Lowkey Evil! but not rly in an intimidating way more in a participatory way, like if u choose to dance along ur knowingly complicit in something. an embrace of long dark arms...and the music goes crazy hard so why would u say no tbh. parties and clubs are too much sensory hell for me and this is sensory hell too tbh but i like that as an art expression. some rly good panic attack tunes on here

Daft Punk vibes are strong especially in the first half. This was enjoyable.

Pleasant surprise for not being an obvious religious album. If electronic music can be Christian then good for it, by biggest qualm about Christian music is the eye rolling lyrics. There are a couple of tracks with talking, but nothing terrible, I just prefer the instrumentals on this album. First two start it off strong, then the lyrics on the 3rd ruins the momentum that I'm not sure it gets back. I found myself looking at track names more for "skip this one next time" purposes rather than "oh that's a banger, save it" Phantom pt II caught my ear and I wasn't sure where part 1 ended, so had to grab both. Overall solid album, was great to have on while trying to organize the room. Favorite track "Genesis" 4/5

I wish I could give .5 stars for some of these albums bc I feel like that would be more accurate than a whole star. Anyways great sounds and experience. Absolute favorites are on the last quarter of the album.

Great album.

Love Justice. They have such a cool sound. This album brings me back to 2007/2010 era.

It grooves and has good enough variety to stay interesting throughout.

4 - its undeniably amazing, but I feel lost in just instrumentals

New to me, but loved it.

Molto interessante, anche se diverso dal mio solito.

Better than I thought, electronic music is not exactly my favorite. Banging record, solid tracks.

I’ve never listened to a Justice album before, but I did see them in concert back in 2012, and it was a fantastic show. I bought tickets to see them because I like electronic music, and I thought it would be a fun time. The show was close to Halloween though, and there was a couple dressed as the freaky versions of Gena Davis and Alec Baldwin’s characters in Beetlejuice (you know, when they have those really exaggerated features and shit). Anyway, these two assholes had on giant papier-mâché heads that blocked my blocked my view for a little bit. Fuck those two idiots. Anyway, I have high hopes for this album, and it should be perfect for this Friday! I wanted to fall in love with this album, and while I thought it was great, it fell a little short of five stars in my book. I love these arrangements, and the highs on this album absolutely soar. Collectively, this album has a dark mood to it that I really love, which I found to be an interesting contrast to some of the Biblical song names. The bass sounds really punch things up, and the overall electronic sounds are fantastic. I enjoyed the structure of these songs as well; the main riffs would repeat in a way that still kept me engaged and wanting more. The album started off incredibly strong, but the tail end was somehow even better; I thought “Stress,” “Waters of Nazareth,” and “One Minute To Midnight” were the best songs on the album. Thankfully, I have few things to complain about on this album, but those few things were really off-putting to me. There were some moments where the glitching sounds were really grating, particularly when the beat just completely dropped off. Also, “The Party” felt really out of place on this album. The light vocals really took away from the dark mood of the album, and for that song’s placement on the album killed some of the momentum for me. Honestly, you could probably remove “The Party” and “DVNO” from this album, and it would be immensely better as a whole work. I know those might seem like some nitpicky details, but they really did affect how much I enjoyed the album. Still, this album is really good, and I’d definitely throw it on again in the future.

A pretty cool and fun electro house album

Yes, this is what I remember the 2000's to sound like. House for the rock-kids. It's electronic but it's also got riffs, distortion and sort of recognizable song structures. Or: each track is a collection of highs and lows that sort of mimic the traditional verse-chorus-verse structure. This is another one of those albums where I am very familiar with the hits (inescapable at any indiedisco back then) but never bothered with the album. The non-hit album tracks are pretty good, better than expected actually, but honestly it's the hits I will keep coming back to.

Really enjoyed this album!

I really liked this album. It was full of energy, creativity, surprises, twists and turns. The leading single, D.A.N.C.E., was fantastic, and just imperfect enough that it doesn't come across as a manufactured EDM piece like so many of its contemporaries. These Justice guys are great at their craft and clearly competent at composing tricky, stimulating, crazy textures. There are dozens of interacting synth sounds across the album's 12 tracks, including ones that sound like ultra-processed guitars and bass. (Relatedly, the "bass" sound is consistently great here.) The use of reasonably complex chords and melodies is always a win. The transitions between tracks are very sudden, which definitely makes it an "album experience", albeit a slightly jarring one. According to the Wikipedia article, the album features a heck-ton of sampling – which I'm still not convinced has much creative merit, but I guess it was done well, because I hardly noticed it. The album does lose a bit of steam in the last four tracks or so. It seems like Justice tossed the four tracks with near-identical tempo and percussion onto the end of the album and called it a day. The track order could use some reshuffling. 4/5 Key tracks: Genesis, D.A.N.C.E., The Party

Daft punk but fr*nch

This made me want to shake my booty. So I did. 4

Heard this album a lot when I was younger. I like the daft punk esq feel.

I love this album. There are a couple filler songs that keep it from being 5 stars, but the bangers are BANGERS.

Why do French people make such good electronic music duos? AIR, Daft Punk, and then Justice - must be something in the water over there. It’s been a while since I’ve given this a full listen and it still hits incredibly hard, just relentless bass-heavy dance bangers

Windows down, driving round Manchester at very low speeds, living my best EDM life. It's a funny thing with dance or electronica, it's rare that it really grabs me, and it's hard to know why it does when it does, but Justice really get it. Having said that, my favourite two songs just involve loads of spelling, so maybe I'm just hankering after Sesame Street.

fun all the way through

This was pretty fun! I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty sick of "D.A.N.C.E.", but the rest of the songs were enjoyable enough. I would never find myself putting on this album for my own entertainment, but I enjoyed it in the moment.

i knew D.A.N.C.E. but not the rest of the album—was delighted to get daft punk's fruitier cousin 💅

Cross is an interesting album. I'd say the first half is stronger than the second, with Party being the worst song on the album. However, it's quite fun to listen to. It's like funky electronica, plus it feels very creative.

I used to love this album when it came out, but it feels a bit dated now. 3.5 stars.

Mola. Electro houseFrench house

Great to program to

An inventive take on the fun French house brought to the masses by Daft Punk.

Überraschend gut. Vielleicht bereue ich die 4 Sterne später. Aber der Sound ist gut und die Samples und Loops nicht zu repettitiv.

Famous French electro maestros (the other ones) topple the dancefloor aristocracy with their microsampled manifesto of synth-driven anthems and operatic disco glitz.

Trodde d skulle være wack me var bangers

Wouldn’t consider myself an electronic music fan, but this slapped! Outstanding! Will definitely be coming back to this album again!

Very groovy. Thoroughly enjoyed this one

Mola. Electro houseFrench house.

Not bad! Better than some of the other electronic music I’ve been given so far..

Really loved the first half, lost a little steam at the end but I was vibing overall

With tracks blending from one to the next, Justice created an album that captures the tone of a Daft Punk album, with Crystal Castle vibes. It gave me an unexplainable desire to play laser tag and air hockey under black lights like it was 1997. Also, I didn’t realize “D.A.N.C.E” wasn’t Daft Punk, as I’d heard the song and without context, thought it was just another of their catchy tunes. The singer of “The Party” sounded like Kesha on “TiK ToK”, which drove me crazy when trying to figure out why it sounded familiar (note: it’s not Kesha…according to my research, It’s Uffie…you know, Uffie). Overall, worth a listen for sure…some songs can get a little tedious and irritating with repeated beats that worm their way into your subconscious and don’t end when they maybe have overdone their welcome. But for anyone who digs the Daft Punk scene, this is a welcome album to add to the rotation.

Compared to Fatboy Slim, this is a great example of how much electronic dance music grew in such a short time. Total blast. Love this album.

Solid references and work that really comes together for the listener. Maybe not a great first album of the day listen but coffee helps.

Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it.

Was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Not normally my thing.

A great album that provided the ground for many more electronic albums of 2000's and 2010's.

The newfound popularity of Daft Punk in the 2000s gave rise to a a new wave of french EDM, particularly under Ed Banger Records. Chief among them was the incredible duo Justice, whose debut album Cross was an immediate hit for its back-to-front consistent quality and innovation on the "French Touch" style. Cross knocks me out with just how damn good it is. The whole album feels like a heightened moment of EDM with how grandiose it is. It strikes a fine line between pop, electro, disco, and somehow also classical music? Justice knew how to synthesize all these influences into one tight album that never lets up.

❤️ electric

Yes, this is straight summer vibes.

Still cool

Not a huge fan of electronica but given that this was a fun listen.

Mola. Electro houseFrench house.

Super fun album to listen to front to back, they take the attention to make sure most of the album flows into the next track, so it makes a nice full experience. Also like how harsh some of the synths they use are, gives it some edge.

never heard of them, but they are a great listen. Awesome start to the album with Genisis. Great Electronic music. Favourite song: Genisis Least favourite: none, great album Album artwork: Not my favourtie cover

I really enjoyed this. Solid duo

like its so hype

Another rare bird. A pure dance album that I actually liked. Like the whole thing. It did flag a little about 2/3rd in, but then it picked back up at the end. Really solid. An unexpected treat.

it honestly hit me so hard at the start. the only thing that was genuinely bad in this was the song "the party" rest was either incredible or good. and that's saying something considering i was listening to it sitting alone in bed and not at a club.

Those Daft Punk clones mananged to fuel the hype machine on all cylinders in 2007, thanks to their Ed Banger connections. What's left of that hype seventeen years later is... a well-crafted dance / electronic album, but maybe one that might sound less "timeless" (and therefore more "dated") than what their models offered before them, very ironically. It's a bag of effective tricks. But a bag of tricks nonetheless. Beyond the relentless disco-funk rhythms, you can find some good earworms here and there. But most of them sound copied-and-pasted on the same sort of melodic template. The latter is stellar on the absolute hit "D.A.N.C.E", paying a sly homage to the Jackson 5 heritage, thanks to its smart vocal samples. It's lively and enticing on "Phantom pt. II". The "song" on "The Party" is a humourous detour. But those melodic endeavors are not as numerous as they should be. The second half of the record oscillates between debts to another act sometimes associated to the so-called "French Touch", AIR, and far more "hardcore" shenanigans owing a lot to "minimal" strands of techno. "Stress" *is* tight and hectic, for instance, yet the harmonies in its short conclusion convey a "baroque" soundscape that seems to come out of nowhere, as beautiful as it is, and *most of all* goes nowhere very fast. Odd how all those sorts of melodic conclusions are almost never developped, except in the awesome dual closer "Waters Of Nazareth" / "Minute To Midnight". Justice must have felt too many melodies would ruin their rythmical drive. That's a mistake Daft Punk would never have made--at least if their starting points for a track required them to go there. There again, the pupils are not exactly up to the level of their masters. *Cross* is good. Is it "essential", though? Only god knows. Or maybe Jesus. 3.5/5 for the purposes of this list, rounded up to 4. 8.5/10 for more general purposes (5+3.5) Number of albums left to review: 189 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 351 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 204 (including this one) Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 258

Could listen to this album all day

Definitely front loaded, first 3 tracks are HYPE but looses momentum. Stress is also very good. Fun album

Discount Daft Punk. Decent

Decent album; not my style, but 3.5 stars round up to 4

Oddly enough, I first looked this album up today not realizing it was also assigned to me on this app! This is the second time recently that I have been given an album on the same day its artist released a new album (in this case, Hyperdrama). The album itself is good electronic music, if a bit inconsistent. "D.A.N.C.E." is a fairly iconic track, although I am ambivalent towards it. Solid album overall.

BAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGEEEEEERRRRRSSSSS

A very refreshing change of pace after what feels like an infinity of guitar-driven rock. The production is a bit harsh at times, but cool nonetheless.

Had not heard of them or this album. Really enjoyed it! 3.75

Really great rocking dance tunes on this one.

Never heard of them before, but found myself really getting into this one, has a vibe similar to "pretty lights".

Fun, but unfortunately the album peaks early with "Genesis."

In my student radio days one of the other DJs talked this up a lot. I had a crush on her so I got it and listened to it until I liked it. It’s not my usual thing but I still like it.

Didn’t realize I knew a couple songs from here. Fun album. Good listen. I’d give it a 3.5 but since I can’t and it’s my vote I’ll stick to a 4.

This was awesome. Was familiar with Justice but never really dug in to their music before. Not normally an electronic music guy but I would revisit this for sure.

This was soooo great. The Daft Punk influence is undeniable to the point, where these guys were listening to Discovery every morning on their way to the studio, but they still created something unique that was also influential to the sound of the 2010s. The Party really is ass, that's why it's not a 10/10. I'd rate it 4.5/5

A more heavier sound than Daft Punk. A good album.

Not normally my sort of thing but thoroughly enjoyed bopping along to this! Could have done with a couple more bangers though as some of it dragged.

Loved it! if it had a couple more bangers it would be a 5

Less a dance album and more of a collection of comically bombastic synths, beats and samples that function like a buzz saw through your cranium. An absolutely massive set of songs even if it's corny as all get out, but at the same time this is just pure pleasure seeking music--like if the bass line and vocals on "D.A.N.C.E," don't force you to crack a smile the I don't know what to tell you. Something I can really appreciate is just how heavy this sounds at moments, a few of the synth lines verging in the grotesque, I'm not well versed enough in the context but this seems like the axis point in which electronic music (along with Daft Punk) started aiming for colossal heights and aspiring towards stadium status having a dramatic effect on the evolution of the genre.

Forgot about this banger. Thanks for the reminder.

the album is actually named justice on spotify Genesis: 9/10 dramatic intro - goes hard af weak spot after intro, but rest of the song is fire Let There be Light: 6/10 musically very pleasant and nice - but I just don't really like the sounds they use (at the start) and then it falls off D.A.N.C.E: 9/10 actually a slapper. I would dance to this Newjack: 6/10 interesting but not interesting enough Phantom: 8/10 sick Phantom Pt.II: 8/10 just as good as part 1 or better inlove with the lil riff Valentine: 7/10 NAH WHAT the start did not have to go that hard - rest of the song alr The Party: 8.5/10 for all the songs on this album to put vocals on it probably wasn't this one but it's still rly good - nice song DNVO: 7/10 kinda middest song of the album Stress: 7.5/10 cool sound - needs robot vocals Waters of Nazareth: 3/10 ow my ears wtf so much missed potential with this song One Minute to Midnight: 8/10 that bass ♥‿♥ Top 3: 1. D.A.N.C.E 2. Genesis 3. The Party honorable mention: One Minute to Midnight Disclaimer: I think I was in the perfect mood to listen to this so some songs may have inflated scores Album Score: 8/10 this album is an experience - i enjoyed it a lot Notes: The intro to nearly every song fucking slaps - but they tend to fall off slightly waters of Nazareth could've been great but it wasn't heavier daft punk??

3. D.A.N.C.E (1st) 4. Newjack (10th) 1. Genesis (2nd) 2. Let There Be Light (8th) ---------------------------- 9. DVNO (4th) 8. The Party (9th) 7. Valentine (12th) 12. One Minute To Midnight (11th) 10. Stress (5th) 6. Phantom Pt. II (3rd) 11. Waters Of Nazareth (6th) 5. Phantom (7th) some songs lowk hurt my ears but some real bangers i like the daft punk-esque songs a bit more than the ear barrage and bad singing

Very good. Very fun. Overall still sounds fresh. I remember this making waves back in the day.

I was familiar with some of the singles prior to getting this album. I haven't been exposed to a ton of electro house, but this album was pretty solid. It starts off strong with 'Genesis', to the iconic single 'D.A.N.C.E' (which feels a tad out of place in this album). The ending three tracks ('Stress', Waters of Nazareth', 'One Minute to Midnight') also prove to be a killer finishing combo after reeling the listener back in. I can see this type of music not being for everybody, so the reviews may be a bit polarizing. But as someone who likes Daft Punk, this record is somewhat up my alley.

Cool modern electronic music. A lot of sampling here and there.

Wow. Queued this up without taking a look at genre or anything and was thrilled from the first track. The transitions between tracks make this an even better listen together / in order to really appreciate it. Felt like I was being pulled into a trance, with a sprinkle of “abducted by aliens” and I’m into it. A few of the tracks are what I’d class as background music though, 4*

Not my fav but still fun

I really liked this album. My taste in electronic music in general is really limited, but I can say that I like this almost as much as Daft Punk, and I really like Daft Punk. There are a few parts of this album that really stand out to me, like Genesis and "TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY". Added to library and will definitely listen again.

Never heard of this artist before but I liked it!

Classique

A killer edm album

FAVO: D.A.N.C.E., The Party, DVNO

First four songs are fantastic.

Qué bueno es este disco! No se puede parar de bailar!

Killer

This has really grown on me

NGL this bangs. I lived through the Ed Banger years and by the time this came out I was kind of done with the entire sound but relistening close to 20 years on the level of craft to the production is pretty clear.

A good genre album, solid dance electronica in the vein of Daft Punk. “Stress” is awful and gave its namesake to me. lots of good cuts though.

I actually really liked this - good example of an electronic album with limited vocals that goes some where. All the buildups are useful and it keeps it interesting throughout the album.

I was really excited for this, but I don’t think it aged as well as I thought it would. The beats are good but somewhere in the middle it just kind of gets annoying. stress is just fucking awful. The first song really makes me want to buy a Cadillac though.

awesome.

Stress is like the platonic ideal of a dance party vibe to me.

I've listened to Justice before so it was nice to revist this album. I personally prefer their second album "Audio, Video, Disco" but this is a hell of debut album. DANCE is a bit overplayed for my liking but there are many other great songs here. Theres a great tempo to the album and it never got boring. Highlights: Genesis Phantom Waters of Nazareth One Minute to Midnight

Love that this album is here. I think it's sort of fallen out of favor the longer it's been since release, but it's a phenomenal album rivaling Daft Punk.

Really good French Electronica.

Not all too familiar with the genre (electronic/dance), I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Genesis and Stress being some of the highlights personally.

Decent

Man, I remember this album. It kind of blew me away in 2007. I was never really into this scene, but this album was so heavy and catchy! That bass tone! Their stage presence made a big splash too. Not as amazing as it was before, but still, for me I gotta give it a 3.5 - 4.

Enjoyed some of the selections.

Groovy, baby!

Great electronic album. Really cool parts, and has a break-out mainstream electronic hit with D.A.N.C.E.

ENRGETIC-VIBE MUSIC-The album was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album and "D.A.N.C.E." was nominated for Best Dance Recording and Best Video at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.

The French sure knows their electronic music. I recognized the opening track from before. There's rock influences that are prominent on a lot of the tracks. Definitely worth a listen.

Great house tracks but one or two misses .

So much fun. So good.

Usually not my genre but this is a good album. I remember the hit singles which I might have heard a bit too often back then and was surprised that for me there wasn't a song on it where I felt the need to skip.

Finishes super strong. The last three tracks, (Stress, Waters of Nazareth and One Minute to Midnight) are certified bangers. Definitely influenced by Daft Punk but a tad more abrasive. Most of it works.

Freakin great music. Not typically my style but I had this on while I was packing up for a move and I really enjoyed it! Super fun to listen too.

Played this album to death when I was at Uni, love it still and listening to it today just takes me back to those clubbing days, up there with the best of electro house. Added back to my permanent rotation.

I'm a sucker for some good French House music.

Kult album!

INteresting!

Is there a 4.5?

01) Genesis - 7,0 02) Let There Be Light - 7,0 03) D.A.N.C.E. - 8,0 04) Newjack - 7,5 05) Phantom - 7,0 06) Phantom Pt. II - 8,0 07) Valentine - 7,5 08) Tthhee Ppaarrttyy - 8,0 09) DVNO - 8,0 10) Stress - 8,5 11) Waters of Nazareth - 7,5 12) One Minute to Midnight - 7,5 TOTAL: 7,63 (76/100) Very Daft Punk esque. It would be 3,5 stars for me, but I'm feeling generous, so it's 4 stars. "Stress" is very interesting. While in other songs I hear Daft Punk in this one I can hear a bit of Chemical Brothers. This is my 31st album and it goes in at number 15. Neeext!

- It's well worth it to go see the music videos for DANCE and DVNO. Both are amazing. - I like the album, but a lot of its songs are available in better versions in "Access all Arenas" and Woman Worldwide. - I have no idea why, but this album reminds me of Kosuge Sugimoto's masterpiece [# 自主制作アニメーション『the TV show』](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9YtJC-Kd8)

Pretty much just hardcore dark Homework by Daft Punk. Very hype album.

3.5. Stress stressed me out.

Total hit, reminds me of Glam.

This was a good album. I will admit I am a sucker for sample heavy, glitchy electronic music. The dark undertones of the album were a nice touch.

I remember this band seemingly coming out of nowhere with their singles and the amount of hype was palpable. People were comparing them to Daft Punk and when the album dropped, no one could contest that this seemed like the natural evolution of Daft Punk's music. With more metal influences, this album's ethos was much darker and was an instant success. Overall there are just a few tracks that I wouldnt consider perfect but I would give this 4.5 stars if I could. An amazing record

Seeing this was a electronic/dance album had me bummed out. Maybe my low expectations did this album a favor though because it far exceeded them. I don't think I could ask much more from this genre. The French have really got a lock on this genre seemingly, with Daft Punk also competing for the crown. Unfortunately, the album is maybe a touch too long, or maybe this type of music just drains my attention span a little more than others. Either way, it's a brilliant album, knocking on the door of five stars. Highlight: D.A.N.C.E Lowlight: One Minute To Midnight Surprise Hit: Phantom Pt. II

Another one I didn't know what to expect, but I liked it.

I pretty much never go out of my way to listen to EDM but this album is a lot of fun

It wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it. My favorites were probably The Party and D.A.N.C.E.

New to me, really cool

Tres bien

3.5 rounded up. Not my easiest listen but on part because I milked every ounce of joy from if when it came out and in the years after, and I can't penalise it for that.

I wish I listened to house music in the 90s when it was becoming popular so I could have had more time enjoying it. I supposed young, ignorant, musical tastes are designed to be refined. I really enjoyed this record, however, there are other house subgenres that I prefer and am more likely to return to.

The way you move is a mystery

Bello anche se del genere non so un cazzo

Always liked this album. The one sticking point is, I don't love their use of static in some of the songs, otherwise it would be a 5/5.

This is how to do electronic music. It's not quite Discovery but it's close to that good. Lovely surprise. I had never heard of this band before. The Party is the low point but even that track could have been good if the vocalist had any flow or at all. My kids liked it too.

Paar hele vette nummers, paar wat mindere. Goed album, maar beetje product van z’n tijd.

Digger 80 %, resten gir meg angst:)

Ville like dette mer enn jeg gjorde, men fortsatt topp tier musikk. Favorittlåter: "Genesis" og "DANCE"

Loved this when it came out.

Jossain tätä levyä kuvattiin tekno-oopperaksi. Aika osuva kuvaus. Ei huono, mutta ei välttämättä ykkösenä kuuntelulistalla.

I never quite understood the hype, but after around the 3rd listen everything just made sense. It seems more freeflowing than most edm and more rock in spirit. Feels like great exercise music. My overall favorite moment is the classical elements introduced in the outro of Stress.

Gives Terraria. Techno mix with pop refferences, linked songs, chill overall.

I like the electric music style the album has going. In particular I liked D.A.N.C.E.

With good headphones, this feels like a brain massage at times. Both physically and psychologically. Hard to explain. I like it.

First listen for me outside of the one big hit on this. It's like a crunchy daft punk and probably more to my taste because if that. Goes in some unexpected directions, but all in very entertaining. It got liked in spot, so I'll be coming back.

Electronica bangers

8/10 - 1 popular but SO MANY BANGERS - Hidden gems only wanted to skip one or two Great workout album Hip hop influence and can see a lot of Daft Punk influence as well

the kids choir on dance was a real highlight and the rapping on the party - highly enjoyable listen

Great for movie soundtracks or background music

Don’t know much about electronic music history but this album is great. I can only compare it to Daft Punk as another electronic duo but there’s some real hits in here. Dance is a good homage to Michael Jackson and overall all of these songs are easy to groove or dance to.

this is basically what they played in the background of every gossip girl episode in the original run

oui oui....je vibre

fun!!!!

It kinda cleanses the soul

a pretty fun, danceable album. i knew d.a.n.c.e. beforehand, but nothing else on the album, so i was hoping it would be along the same lines - and it was. was fun, not particularly mindblowing for me, but a fun time overall.

Liked it a lot except for the rlly dramatic lyrics on a couple songs. Otherwise was a really interesting album, thought the fusion of house and rock was cool. happy monday, very nice sunny day today. After school Andrew, Kieran, Asher showed me this cool treehouse near the cross, lowkey is such a spot

Whilst a little long, and god knows that "The Party" should've been cut from this album, this is a massive sounding album full of catchy tracks. Electronica isn't my genre, but I enjoyed this a lot overall. Honestly, just the quality of the production and how big these songs sound is enough to make it a good time.

Some parts were too weird for me but there were more than enough moments that were OUTSTANDING that I think I liked it?

fun album, not something id probably listen to much on repeat other than a couple tracks, but definitely goes hard. fave track: the party 100%

idk i liked it :3

Genisis: Funky song, unlike anything I've listened to before, quite interesting! It does have a very good tune. I like this! Let There Be Light: Interesting, not sure I like the constant electrical sound bit or its solo but it isn't bad for sure. Bit busy. Did like the ending though! D.A.N.C.E: Very interesting! Pretty catchy somehow, fancy! Do the dancee! Newjack: Uhm what, this one's a bit weird. No real rythym to be found here. Last part of the song has somewhat of a rythym but still confusing. Phantom: Had to turn the volume down for this one. It's LOUDD. Phantom II: Probably my most liked song from this album? It's a great tune The Party: Not entirely my vibe this one... DNVO: This is good stuff, kind of trance like. Stress: My stress levels literally went up with this one. Waters of Nazareth: Interesting name this, funky tune tho. One Minute to Midnight: Honestly not a bad tune, actually a vibe. Name reminds me of the impending doom of humans but the song itself is just good tbh. Overall: Way better than previous album as I definitely wasn't bored while listening to it. Quite a different style but it was pretty good stuff.

Very interesting vibe, Electronic music can be hit and miss for me but this one is overall pretty good. I tend to like the lyricless tracks the most. Genesis is well known for a reason, but Phantom pt II is also pretty great.

Really enjoying this one.

Overall wonderful album that showcases electronic music well. Has good low end rumble and a WOW factor.

Great techno beats.

Really enjoyed this!

I have been in love with this album for about 10 years, the sound is so unique, revolutionnary, there are less interesting songs on here, but so many crazy ideas, like Genesis, Newjack, The Party, DVNO and Stress. I wonder how they ever came up with them and how they created the sounds. Sometimes the mix and compression can hurt some songs, but this is a classic

Album grew on me. Favorites were D.A.N.C.E, Phantom part II, Valentine, and Waters of Nazareth. Far more intricate and interesting than your typical dance music

A classic banger. New album coming soon excited to hear how they've progressed

what the hell is in France's water that makes them all good at electronica

That year at R&V 😆

Heard this a few times before, but never got into it. EDM - I don't even know what that means. Ok, I do now :) Makes sense.... Electronic Dance Music. It is more powerful that your typical dance or electronic music. I think this time, I am coming around. What drug do I need to take to really get into it? MDMA/ecstasy? Standouts: D.A.N.C.E., DVNO, Waters of Nazareth Others: Genesis, Let There Be Light, Phantom, Pt. II, Thhhee Ppaarrttyy, One Minute to Midnight. Half of the songs on the album blew the ear buds right out of my ears! Awesome. Ppoowweerfffuullllll! 4/5

Good record for a late night drive. I typically don’t like electronic music at all but I actually really dug this. It was weird and groovy and the arrangements were interesting, it never felt too repetitive like this kind of music usually is.

surprisingly very groovy and fun despite what the dark album cover suggests!

Once again an album with one great song and an overall average rest of the record. That one song is obviously D.A.N.C.E. such a great piece of electronic music, whatever the actual subgenre is. I think every party since 2007 includes some version of a remix of this song, and for a good reason. Other tracks maintain the tempo and energy of that song, but there is something lacking, you don't really feel the same atmosphere anymore, it's nothing as substantial as this. So once again, above average note, for an average album and a great song.

Never heard of this group - picture of one of the guys looks like Aaron Rodgers in an Orioles jacket. Great start. First track "Genesis" has me grooving. Daft Punk vibes. One of those albums that doesn't have endings to tracks, they just flow to the next one. It works with this type of music. I have faint memories of the most popular track, "D.A.N.C.E," but surprised I've never heard of this. "Phantom" is FUNKY. So is "The Party." Definitely heard that chorus sampled before.

All good except The Party…anything but that song

Pretty solid dubstep/EDM type album, nothing too overbearing. Some tracks were kinda average but some were definitely bangers. Good if you're in the mood for it

Decent dance album, on the heavier side and actually I prefer the more instrumental tracks.

This † still sounds fresh and new to me. It's an excellent listen if you're looking for something to both engage with *and* zone out to at a BPM that can move you.

Great dance record.

If not for 'The Party' (excruciatingly bad) this would be a 5. 'Let There Be Light'- impossible not to dance to it. Great dance album.

French Electronic dance rave music. Heavy, hectic. At some times haunting, at others melodic. Haven't listened to a huge ammount of electronic music, but really enjoyed Justice.

An erratic dial up internet connection in musical form. Nostalgic for interference, static and distortion. Stuttering, dark, dystopian, decadent, nihilistic. Also very catchy and accessible.

Bastante duro.

Älä anna huijata juksuttaa..Erilaista 1001.. mutta ei exellenteä..

souvenirs de fou (le Crazy Dance de la fête foraine)

Scratchy electronic dance sound "bloghouse". Good variety, ranging from party tracks like D.A.N.C.E to hardcore sounding Stress. Certainly a record of it's time, but a fun one at that. Highlight is Genesis.

I’m on an EDM kick right now, so this album came at the perfect time. Starts out with a bang, and hooked me right away. Sone songs are best repetitive, but creative with the effects and sounds (apparently TONS of samples were used in this album). Good flow throughout. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: probably Favourite Song: Stress

Blijft een goed album. Wel iets heftiger dan ik mij kon herinneren. D.A.N.C.E. is ook echt een klassiekertje

Really have loved this album for some time. Big beat! 4/5

Really fun electronic music! love the bass on it

oooh looks intriguing. 2007...Is it metal? 🤞🏽 OH FUCK YEAH, the first electronic album. Sounds synth waveish. I dig it! It's very Daft Punk-y. Apparently they are also a French Duo. Dug quite a few of those songs! One I will revisit.

Electronic music often leaves me feeling pretty cold, but I cannot deny that is fun, danceable stuff! I own this one on vinyl, and I'm waiting for the right opportunity to throw this one at a future party -- I think it could get the crowd moving. On my most recent listen, I did notice that the album sounded a little more "2007" than it had previously. But, meh. I'm nostalgic for 2007 anyways.

I just love heavy electronic music like this! The album doesn't drag on too long, and I feel like Justice performs better without vocal accompaniment. Cross is crunchy and heavy and man, I love that.

Pretty strong album overall.

So much nostalgia with this, its essentially what got me into electronic music. Huge-production dance beats haven't aged well generally, but this still hits good for me. Strong 3.5 Fav Track: Let There Be Light

Dated? Sure. Silly? Absolutely. But boy, this is buckets of fun! Catchy melodies, fun and inventive production that leaves a lot of space and breathing room for unique synth tones and beats. Three and a half? Probably, but no. Four! Fave track: Genesis

At last an album from the ‘00s that has a bit more sense to be on this list - this record had a fair bit of impact on electronic dance music, and it has aged pretty well. It’s kind of refreshing to hear some really muddy beats mixed with some pop. The first half of the album is beated out pretty precisely, there’s a lot of flavour and range to keep things from getting dull. Somewhere in the second half (I think somewhere between Tthhee Ppaarrttyy and DVNO) things get a little tiresome and the more anthemic EDM ones don’t resonate as well with me. Still a solid blend of engineering and musical originality - 4 stars. Fave track: Genesis

French electronic artists are the only people on earth who actually understand how music production works

This is a great French electronic album with rock influences. Standouts: Genesis, Waters of Nazareth, D.A.N.C.E. 4/5.

They have a knack for ear worms. Impressive debut. I don't listen to that much dance music but I think part of the appeal of this is that it easily crosses over into pop & rock realms.

Electronica you can really sink your teeth into. Meaty, beaty, big and bouncy (with just the right amount of noise and glitch).

There's something magical about this era of French electronic music – it reached an international audience, sounded quite unlike anything else, and still sounds good today. Love the hyper, cut-up sounds made danceable.

The French are known for two things; house music and protesting. Fantastic album. 4/5

First two songs are pretty good. Valentine was a good song I do like Stress a ton.

I've never listened to this. I've heard some songs in other places, namely at shows or bars, but this is a first for me. I really enjoyed this album.

Cool, chill album. Very enjoyable!

Soms heb je platen als dit nodig in je leven en dit was de goede moment. Perfect om de dag te beginnen. Stress is die goede NBA 2k13 schijf

Ik vind dat een toffe ontdekking D.A.N.C.E pak ik zeker en vast mee

Wall to wall big beat bangers

Not quite as magical as I remember, but still a belter with a couple of stand out tracks.

C’est hot, y’a des classiques et tout là.
