Reviews (page 2 of 9)
f it, this album slaps and there are a few different true bangers in here. When done right, house music hits different. Great balance between keeping things sort of traditional for the times but sprinkling in some more experimental stuff
All atmosphere, vibes, and imagination. Loved it.
That was great! Definitely going to be listening to that on my bicycle Rave rides this summer
I usually don’t like electronic music, but I guess I have a thing for French duos, because these guys and Daft Punk are the two exceptions. On this album, you never know what’s coming next. The combination of hundreds of different samples from a huge variety of styles gives this album a super unique feel that is still incredibly catchy and danceable.
This album is such a treat. From beginning to end it hits with sharp, glitchy beats and incredibly fun and catchy mixes of a heavy dose of house and disco, combined with influences of metal, prog and rock. But make no mistake, this is a French House album through and through, with, in my opinion, something for everyone to enjoy. Catchy highlights like D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO, or the prog-influenced funk-fiesta Phantom Pt. I and Pt. II duo, which are not long after being followed by the intense and sweeping Stress. I am a little biased I suppose, since I am very familiar with Justice's work, but for me, this record hits all the right spots. It's an amazing hallmark in the history of French House, putting the genre (along with Daft Punk) on the world stage. 5/5.
Instant fav <3 still fresh after all these years
Nostalgia and good beats combined
Just love this record. It's so fun from start to finish. Love that bass sound. Love the hard rock elements mixed up into the funky electronic packaging. Some great vocal elements to make it feel fresh among the instrumentals. Love it
Reminiscent of ENA soundtrack. Makes me want to download the game to play it(I should) Something about this album cover told me I was going to be in one hell of a listening experience and that thing was right. Something here is very also reminiscent of Daft Punk. This song is what I've been needing for a while. D.A.N.C.E, Phantom I & II and Stress are impeccable. Waters of Nazareth is suitably heavenly.
Amazing
Favorite Track: D.A.N.C.E.
Such a solid debut record. Justice is great. I'm sad I missed them at last year's Kilby Block Party. Been reading about their influence on the indie dance scene which has been really interesting. I dig the glitchy sound. It makes for especially fun dancing. My only issue with it is that it feels a bit dated. I love the song transitions. The whole album flows really well.
This album is incredible. I think I just wasn't ready for it when it came out in 2007. I do remember going to indie dance shows (Seve vs. Evan, HelloGoodbye, Clap Your Hands, The Brobecks) at the time of this record but none of them really went full send like JUSTICE did. So it was hard for me to groove to at the time. I definitely know the big songs on here. D.A.N.C.E and DVNO but most of this I hadn't listened to since Listening today, I'm pretty blown away by this. Really cool dance songs. Fun mixes, its playful and weird. Heavy and soft. Its really really cool.
own
One of my favourites.
Love this album saw them love twice a decade a part. Hard to capture the magic..girls love kt
For an album that comes from the same year as me, it holds up extremely well. Every song in the album holds a different tone, and is essentially unique in their own way. I love each and every one of the songs. This truly deserves 5 stars.
LOVED THIS ALBUM IN 2007. LOVE THIS ALBUM NOW.
Instant classic, absolute bangers throughout, easy 5 stars.
a real certified Classic right here. it's been a while since i've last heard it, so this was relatively fresh to me. "genesis" is an astoundingly good opener track which is such a clear inspiration for a lot of other electro house. can't say i love every track though! i completely forgot "the party" or "DVNO" existed for instance, both of which i dislike. i don't think the addition of a vocal track works to the same degree that it does in something like "D.A.N.C.E" which to me feels more in harmony. outside of the opener and maybe "waters of nazareth" (LOVE how distorted it is), "stress" might be my favourite because it's kinda giving drakengard 1 OST. strong praise there. it's aptly named because i really love the frantic paranoid energy carried through. dare i even say it's kind of horny? maybe that says too much about me. anyway, this album slaps.
6/5 this album slaps
Electro house.
Instant 5, this album is in my top albums of all time. It’s just so stellar.
A bullet out of Europe to bring back the French Revolution to the masses
our ('70s born) '70
im very biased about this one.well im biased about all my 5's probably
Banger.
daft punk should hear about these guys !! (jk they probably already know D.A.N.C.E at LEAST lol). phantom was my favorite <3
This is one of the albums I credit with getting me into electronic music! Saw them during this tour and got high out of my mind. Still have a few of the songs in the regular rotation, but haven't listened to it front to back in a while so let's see how this goes. ...Honestly The Party[sic] and Valentine do kinda bring it down slightly, but the rest of this album freaking kicks. Oh, and if you haven't watched the video for DVNO do yourself a favor. 4.5 rounded up because Genesis is one of the bangers of all time.
1/15/26. One of my favorites. As a long time Daft Punk fan, this one fits into the same category. Danceable throughout and high energy, with fun samples. Will always revisit!

This really hit for me last night, it’s a damn good album!! The two songs that stood out as my favs this time around were Valentine and Stress
Not a single bad song, favourite so far 5/5
Det är en 5a och det befästs redan vid första droppen. Sån jävla metal-electro! Kan vara den bästa electroskiva som någonsin gjorts.
do the d a n c e
I have always seen this album cover picture before but I never listened to the album or even knew who the band was. I was surprised that I enjoyed this album so much as I came into this with no expectations. They have absolute bangers that I am going to replay again definitely.
A personal favorite of mine. I was super into Daft Punk in High School (still am) and Justice always felt like a grittier, grimier house act. We love them for that. This album is definitely a religious experience.
Really fun
Not first listen; 5; Listening to this brings back memories of college, where I listened to this album a lot. I haven't listened to it in full in quite a while, but it still holds up really well. I remember at the time that this record was still much better than most other electro stuff that was out there. The album is very loud, very abrasive, but is still incredibly catchy. The whole thing slinks and oozes along, while still banging the whole time. Very much and attack and release, attack and release format that builds a ton of tension along the way. Favorite Songs: DVNO, Phantom, Phantom Pt. 2, Waters of Nazareth, Genesis.
for some reason, probably the cover art, i always assumed this was a metal album… well you know what they say about assuming. this actually fucking rules. i could (and did) listen on repeat. thanks, generator :) 4.5
I've never listened to Justice before and had no idea what to expect. I've never really listened to electronic/dance music, so this was very new to me. This is such a nice change amongst the sea of classic dad rock that makes up a lot of this project. Don't get me wrong, I love some dad rock, but it's great to listen to other genres - never would have listened to this otherwise. And what a treat The bassline on Phantom is phenomenal, hello. There's SO many incredible basslines actually. Ugh, stunning Loved D.A.N.C.E. A lot of this was incredible. One or two moments I didn't love, but the rest was so good. A 4/5? A 5/5??? I can't believe this is a debut album. What a banger I think 4.5/5. Who would have known that I'd love this so much!! Iconic. Thank you Songs added to playlist: - D.A.N.C.E. - DVNO - Stress
❤️
I remember everyone lost their mind when this came out.
Banger after banger!! Really loved this album! Loved all the samples. Immediately recognised Genesis because its used on the f1 coverage. Made me love it even more Will listen again. Chefs kiss 🤌🏻 5 ⭐️
This is probably the best edm album on this adventure. This brings some Justice!
Absolute banger - classic that takes me back to my mind 20s!!
always thought this was a overproduced pop record without listening to it, but this is an electronic BANGER!! i guess it’s true when they say never judge a book by it’s cover.
Starts off dancy and gets kind of backgroundy. Loved it.
This kicked ass.
Easy 5/5, my absolute favorite album. There were so many songs on it that I know seperately but never realised they were from the same artist. The transitions were perfection. Every song has its own identity yet you can hear it's from the same artist. Favorite album so far
From the point of view of an album being a package, this is a strong production, though could be tightened up. Great album cover, Strong start and finish some great tracks in between. When this came out I listened to it a bunch and kind of forgot about it. I probably shouldn't have. I'd say it belongs on the list tho. I find myself trying to find reasons to give it four, I should just give it five.
the important stuff. required listening
# Album Name: Cross # Artist: Justice # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: This is going to be one of the best electronic albums you find on this list imo. For the genre, its an absolute beast. Give it a chance. I'd recommend watching some of their live shows if you can. First half is the strongest but i think the entire album is brilliant. The film "tenebrae" originally but me on to this french duo. And what a delight its been. # Top Tunes: Loads of bangers # Would I listen to it again? Yes
Woah
5/5 Love the album.
this album slaps so hard - it's a classic banger album that feels energetic, dark, and powerful.
10/10 incredible
Wow, this was easily the coolest album of music I've heard in a long time, possibly this year. Everything was so crunchy and cool and melodic and just in your face with a great, fresh sound and just really good grooves and I just loved it. I had never heard of Justice before, and I have no idea what genre this music even is, but I was really impressed by the sound of this album. The Kesha track was kinda meh -- only because I can't stand the way she sings -- but I still listened to the whole thing twice and considered going a third time. Five stars, easily.
As far as new-ish electronic music album comes, this is one of the best. While you can definitely feel some resemblance or influence of Daft Punk in there, the raw grit and power of this album is unmatched by them completely. The sound and melodies feels fresh and modern, with an analog feel to them (without probably beeing actually analog). 'Genesis' is a perfect opening track to this album, and might be the best song of the album. Extremely powerful and just raw and cool. 'D.A.N.C.E' feels like a pretty commercial song, but is still good. Overall the first half feels a bit stronger than the latter, but is sort of recovered a bit with 'Waters of Nazareth' and 'Stress' which are absolute bangers both of them. If I have to mention something negative, it's that the format of the album gets a bit tiresome at the end of the album. 'DVNO' is a quite beige song, with similar beat and "features" as some previous tracks. Other than that it is a very varying album with much cool in it. Weak 5!
Imagine this, you are 16, and after hearing the pop songs D.A.N.C.E and DVNO you decide to buy the Justice CD (you are way to nice to download an album), you upload it to your IPOD and on the way to school you are met with “Genesis” and then “Let there be light”. This isn’t at all what you signed up to, but man, it’s som good electronic music of a type you hadn’t heard before. This was my first experience with this album. The hits really don’t prepare you for the glitchy, electronica on this album. It still holds up very well and looking back DVNO is one of the weaker tracks. Actually, all the worst tracks are the one with lyrics (maybe not D.A.N.C.E). The other are great! I think the album holds up really well. I enjoyed the more aggressive songs like “Stress” and “Let there be Light”. It’s just a really good album. There are plenty of hooks that avoid making this album feel samey. Maybe since I hadn’t heard anything similar to this when I first heard it, I hold it in higher esteem then it should be held. I do really like it though. 5 stars.
With an album cover like this I really did not expect an entire album of dance bangers. Holy shit.
Unexpected favorite! Funky fresh ;)
J'aurais mis 6 étoiles si j'avais pu. Son préféré : Stress of nazareth
Loved. It. 5/5
"Waters of Nazareth" electro-tech-banger wahrscheinlich hier das maximum an technoid...c
Legendary
A fantastic album, maybe made better because the album before this was an instrumental album that was boring. While this isn’t entirely instrumental it’s not your typical rock or pop album either.
One thought I've had to confront in the course of taking part in this list is, "Man — how much do I even really like electronic music?" And I know I do. I know I like that stuff. But then, most of the stuff my group has gotten that's fallen under that umbrella... I'unno, it just left me cold. There was an honest moment where electronica was one of my bottom three genres because of how I kept being disappointed by it. It really made me wonder, do I even like electronica as a whole, or is it just the stuff that sounds like Daft Punk? So, here we come to Justice. I've long been aware of the name, not just for the stuff I've heard in mashups (check out Wax Audio's "Come Together 2008"), but because I know a lot of people in the Discord server where my group operates **love** Justice. When 'Hyperdrama' dropped last year, the people went nuts for it. And, y'know, given all of the acclaim, I probably should've checked them sooner. I'd always figured I'd like them! And yet, like so much other music, I just found myself too busy and comfortable with my old stuff to try anything new. And also like with so much other music, I dang looooved it. It's like... Y'know what this album is? It's not helping my case is what it is, because if this thing sounds like anything to me, it's amped up Daft Punk. It's like if they decided to go way harder into grittier techno, while still keeping their good sensibility for hooks and building on themselves. It's an album I put on while I was skimming the Internet, and, honestly, I was just grooving hard. It's really another one of those albums where as much as I wanna have a lot to say about it, I really don't. These are just a tight 48 minutes of music that really speak for themselves. From the big hit "D.A.N.C.E", all the way to the horror movie beats of "Stress", it's just... So good. Really thing you gotta hear in full, front to back, no stops. And I guess it really cements for me just how damn good the French are at this stuff. First Daft Punk, then Justice... And even that "electronic tango" album my group got wasn't bad at all. Major props to 'em. I don't even have a big or clever way to tie my review back into its opening like I like to do. Certainly it doesn't disprove that I'm mostly into Daft Punk-adjacent electronica — or, more specifically I suppose, French house music. Ah well. C'est la vie, I suppose. This album is just real good shit, and I tell you, I'd absolutely return to it again. Heck, I'd eagerly check out the rest of their discography: that's how good it is! So, hey, nice job, Justice. Not bad at all for an album where I refuse to refer to it as anything but '†.'
Don't even need to listen to this to know I'm giving it all of my love (but I will anyways because fuck yeah, Justice.) Solid 6 Stars, if that were an option.
Yeah, I think I’m at a 10. Just a flawless album, really. I mean, sure, I can nitpick about some tracks maybe going a little long or some occasional notes that are a bit too loud, but in terms of a tight 48 minute club set, with transitions smoother than any Anthony Fantano ending & an endless supply of energy, how can I not go up to a 10 with how much I enjoyed this? This is my first time listening to this album as a full, uninterrupted experience, but make no mistake about it; this album’s presence has been in my life since the first time I ever heard a SoundCloud mashup. OK, maybe not literally, but if you were ever on the site in the mid-2010s, Justice tracks became an essential staple of mashup culture, and that’s something that I think still rings true today. “Waters of Megalovania” has 23 million fucking views, and that was made a decade ago. People are still doing fresh stuff with this album, and that’s solely from a mashup perspective. The amount of albums at the professional level this must have inspired has to be immense. This album is nearly 20 years old, and I think it sounds like it could’ve been made this year. That’s how ahead of pace these guys were. The songs I recognized on this listen were “Genesis” (again, SoundCloud), “D.A.N.C.E.” (by far the biggest hit), “DVNO” (helped write a Jeopardy clue about it once), “Stress” (surprisingly enough, from the Jay-Z curated soundtrack to NBA 2K13 – good fucking pick, Jay), & “Waters of Nazareth” (yet again, SoundCloud). 5 out of 12 is a pretty good track record, and I think the other 7 hold up pretty well. Hard to say too much about them, given that this is an album you simply have to feel for yourself to really judge the quality on, save for “TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY” effectively showing me that Kesha REALLY stole that flow from Uffie (who I have never heard of before today) for TiK ToK. It’s hard to not acknowledge some sort of Daft Punk comparison here, but I honestly never thought about it THAT much during the course of the album. This is a little harsher, a little more techno-y, and the grit in the synths gives this a bit of edge that I can’t say I remember “Homework”, “Discovery”, or “Random Access Memories” having, at least not to this degree. It’s certainly possible that “Human After All” or the “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack has a bit more like this, but I’ve just never heard them. Either way, the comparison is warranted, but to my ears, it’s just not that linked, you know? Overall, I think this album feels like an introduction to the EDM sensibilities that would enter mainstream pop for the 2010s, while standing on its own as a kind of pinnacle / bar for the bass-heavy electro-house style that people are still chasing. It’s a SUPER tight 48 minutes, and even in the minor spots where the album hits some sort of a lull, it knows exactly when to pick back up with something that refreshes the energy instantly. This flew by for me, and I’m very glad to remedy my ignorance of not having heard this in full before. I think it’s a 10.
Did this one already
Amazing album, start to finish. Been a fan of the album for years and loved the re-visit. I can really appreciate the whole flow of the album.
I've enjoyed the French electronic duo Justice, up to and including seeing them live at Coachella back in 2024. Their style of electro house, typified by those heavy, buzzing basslines and the booming bass drum notes, took major influences from disco, funk, and hard rock. Having already heard half of their debut record, Cross, I was looking forward to checking out the other half, and the experience certainly enthralled me. From the opening bombast of "Genesis" giving way to the supple bass groove, blaring drills, and chopped-up sampling, the sound is established. The duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay effectively utilized distorted synths, hard-hitting percussion, ever-present basslines, and numerous micro-samples to create imaginative compositions that flow seamlessly from one to the next, maintaining listener engagement. Even when vocals do show up occasionally on this record, such as the chorus of children on "D.A.N.C.E.", the raspy vocals of Uffie on "The Party", and the glossy delivery of Mehdi Pinson on "DVNO", their presences felt complementary to the swagger and bounce of those tracks. Sure, it might seem simple in its musical statement, and perhaps the methods in which they mash and play with the samples and distorted elements can be overwhelming for some. But I still enjoyed Cross all the way through, as Justice carved their own niche in a throwback sound that still feels fresh and innovative years later.
OK, it's dance music. It has a great beat. It's hard on the 1 and the 3 but that's fine; it works for funk, so we'll allow it. They syncopate enough that you won't get bored with it and, frankly, it moves around. What's key is the amount of musical interest throughout Justice's work: catchy, varied melodies; harmonic tension; electronic wails that rise until the breakdowns come. Where house music often feels trance-like to me, as if trying to hypnotize me for hours rather than grab my attention and hold it, this relentlessly grips my brain. Justice are always building to something and it always comes, eventually -- there's never a letdown, always a breakdown. I think that the most important thing that underpins this record is that the foundation of every song is a fabulous set of drums samples. The bass, the synths, the ambient noises, the jazzy guitar hits: it all perfumes this beautiful curry but one thing sits beneath it like the onions that every curry builds from -- just fucking fantastic drumming. Dance music that'll make you feel something other than untz-untz-untz. What a concept. 5/5 and there will be no arguing from the audience.
Some good dance music
The perfect party music album. I had a blast listening to each and every song on this record.
Gear: Focalman Cleardara Artwork: ˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ Production: ˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ Music: ˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ Rating: ✞✞✞✞✞/5
Easy 5. This album slaps, though I expect not for everyone. Fun experience all around!
A ton of fun. I only knew the big single DANCE before this but the whole thing was solid. Even some of the melancholy songs worked much better than I thought. Rating: 4.7
как же я люблю французские электронные дуэты мммм ну мякотка, ну красота, кайфанула мощно
Love justice, I do think WWW is their best but this one is pretty good too
I remember when a friend of mine from PA mailed me a mix tape. The A side was some of his own electro stuff that he was working on and the B side was this album. In the note that he sent he was like 'picked this up the other day and was blown away, needed something to fill the B side of the tape so here you go'. I too was blown away because it was a great electro album and coming from the home of Daft Punk you knew it had to be great. Still when I hear DVNO I always have to listen to it a few times before moving on. I'm sure that when the tape I have breaks it will be at that part where I listened to that song over and over and over again.
Absolute banger
Geeze the French really know how to do electronica don't they! Daft Punk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Air - and Justice! So good I loved the gritty electronic vibes, the bits where it pulled right back to the riff and then built all the way back up! Yes, I'm here for this and this album is going on the rotation. I'd only listened to (and loved) We are your friends - Justice Vs Simian and I don't know why I never listened any further. I'd say this is probably closer to a 4.5, and there are a few tracks I wasn't as into - but I'm giving it a 5 because its rad
alr frick you guys. this album was an absolute blast to listen to. on par with discovery for sure. my middle school music taste and nothing has changed. jacob its onteresting you say video game background music because i was playing cuphead whilst indulging. didnt fit very well with the theme but a solly coincidence perhaps. the repetitive sound of the music makes it easy to listen to and who needs thought provocation when you dance? not me. anyways this album is an instant classic for me. perhaps goat status??
Супер-важный для меня альбом, ноу скипс, бэнгерс. Классика, и абсолютная вершина, которую эта группа, к сожалению, наверное уже никогда не переплюнет. Лучшая песня - DVNO.
I've gotta go re listen to Daft Punk man.
An absolute masterpiece of electronic music. Absolutely mind blowing production and arrangements across 12 tracks that you can just dance to for every moment they are playing. This album never holds back or is ever afraid to commit to a risky idea, and it pays off every time, being full of some of the most unique and original moments of any dance album in the last 20 years.
Classic, love this
One of the first albums, next to daft punks alive, to get me into electronic music. I just sounds so grandiose. I really liked to listen to it again after some years of not really listening to it anymore. The opening is just so good.
Holy shit! This is one of my son's favorite albums of all time. We were luck enough to see them live earlier this year. One of the most energetic shows I’ve ever seen, it was incredible. Cross was the debut album of the French EDM band Justice and quick rocketed the band to worldwide fame for good reason. The use of intense keyboards, combined with bass-heavy music incorporated elements of rock, metal and disco in a unique and fantastic way. The incorporation of familiar elements from other genres make this album a perfect gateway into electronic music for those not previously familiar. However, I think what really makes the album special in the emotional journey it takes the listener on. From the opening moments of "Genesis" listener knows, deep in gut knowledge, that they are about to be launched on a musical journey, then they drop you back down to Earth gently as the sounds of "One Minute to Midnight" fade away. The first time I heard the album in its entirety, I literally took a deep breath. When Justice composed Cross they sometimes spent weeks composing a song, dissecting each moment so that the sounds integrated seamlessly and projected to the listener their intended emotional impact. While the songs are each distinct from each other, they integrate together seamlessly, while also keeping you wondering where you are going next. There is no fluff here. I had no idea the album was on the list, but it certainly deserves to be here. Other than perhaps Daft Punk, I cannot think of a band that has had a larger influence on electronic music.
Perfect opener with some mind-blowing transitions between songs. There are some duds on the tracklist, who really stand out because the rest is so good. Still an essential listen to anyone who likes electronic music/house that's a little dark and gritty
Not what I expected at all and incredibly enjoyable. Love some electronic music to get my morning started.
This album makes me very nostalgic - I was in my early 20s, mostly an indie fan, but dabbling in some 'acceptable to rock listeners' electronica. Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Chemical Brothers, Four Tet and the like. Justice were another one, so I have some bias on this but I think it stands up really well. Unlike some electronic albums it doesn't totally overstay its welcome; although the last 2-3 tracks do get a bit repetitive, it's nothing compared to something like the Prodigy or Goldie in that respect. They create some really great, catchy tunes, despite being mostly instrumental, and the production is just.. LOUD! And that can't be a bad thing when the songs are this good
Super fun!
Hot diggity
I was blown away by how good this was.
Yessss!
Megusta
Banger after banger. This is the ultimate album for the gym.
Didn’t expect to see this album on here so was very excited to see that it was my album today. An immediate 5, one of the nowt important albums in my life. This hit right when I turned 18 and the whole Ed Banger/Boys Noize thing was going on, so my Saturday nights were filled with going to places that played this kind of sample-heavy electro house. Nothing comes close to Cross for me though. Effortlessly cool, grittier than Daft Punk, not as self-deprecating as LCD Soundsystem, and with one of the greatest closing tracks on any album. A great reminded that Uffie was a thing as well.
Eines meiner Lieblingsalben. Einzig The Party ist bisschen schwächer, ansonsten durchgehend Banger.
10/10
This album makes you feel. Incredible groove, fun and the highlight Stress is a flood of cortisol. Amazing.
Kinda the opposite effect from the previous album I listened to ("Seventeen Seconds"). I also listened to this a bunch of times but it was because it was so good. D.A.N.C.E. is maybe....the greatest song ever written? 😂 Several others were such amazing surprises. Hear me now lord, bring me more Justice albums.
A+++ very intense electro dance
Holy Shit I did not expect to love this as much as I did. The bass on this thing is so crunchy and big, and it makes every song sound massive in scale. Justice was apparently going for a "Opera-Disco" style similar to a Rock-Opera album, and it succeeds in strides. This album feels like a Electronic/Disco journey for lack of a better word. I was worried the energy would die down too much, but it never did and just kept on rolling. If I had a complaint, it's that I wished they played up the theatrics more with some of the vocals. The lyrics aren't taking themselves too seriously, mostly joking about partying. That doesn't really change much though, and the Theatrics in the production alone carry in that department. Honestly might be a 10/10, I'm super surprised at how cool this was. Nice job, Justice.
If you don't get hyped up listening to this album, then I don't trust you. It's banger after banger after banger with a perfect blend of noise and hooks. Absolute insanity that 'D.A.N.C.E.' was not the lead single Every single track could find its' way to my playlist - okay perhaps not 'Tthhee Ppaarrttyy', because that one really makes no sense outside of the world created on †. Also, I had the biggest jump scare of my life when putting on the Italian Giallo film Tenebre and having the theme from 'Phantom' blasted at me full volume from 40 years in the past.
With the sole exception of “Tthhee Ppaarrttyy”, † is just banger upon banger. It’s the perfect mix of electronic noise and danceable pop production. French perfection.
5 stars
More of this please!
Reminds me a lot of Daft Punk. D.A.N.C.E and One Minute To Midnight were my favorites, but the whole album is super vibey. The concept of microsamples is interesting too. They used regular samples in some of the songs, but for most of the album they took small pieces from hundreds of songs and frankensteined them together to create something unique.
This album took me by surprise. There are so many unexpected voices, and vulgarity, though it's not hip hop, we even can see a video of some dudes beating people up and music is still playing behind. I didn't expect a girl to be present in the album. Very original.
Another top notch electronic entry. Can really hear the influence it has on dub music. Really fun, never boring.
Masterpiece
This is some really great dance music. The bass lines are filthy, the builds are captivating, and everything maintains momentum which prevents me from getting bored unlike lots of other dance music. Very diverse.
Excellent production. Waters of Nazareth made my ears feel funny in a good way. Great mix of dance and glitch which is a favorite of mine. The hits certainly hit on this one and the rest of the tracks support them splendidly. 10 weeks till Bonnaroo.
A wise man once said "Fuck yeah, Justice." Not sure if I have ever fully listened to this album but definitely know a majority of the songs. Starts off with an absolute banger of Genesis, DANCE is such a fun song, and the Phantoms are so great. Such an industrial sounding techno with beats that are not super repetitive which is an mega plus for me when it comes to electronic music. Love when I can give back to back 5s two days in a row. Going to absolute lose my mind when we see Justice at Bonnaroo coming up in a couple months.
Closest thing well ever get to Daft Punk. Justice rulez. Album got me through some late nights working a few years ago. Ready to lose it at Roo to these guys. Genesis is just an all timer of an opener. Scratches all the itches. Great transitions all across the board. Everyone knows D.A.N.C.E. and for good measure. This song is just so catchy and danceable. I'm literally dancing right now. Can't tell which part of Phantom I like more both bang. Valentine is the perfect interlude song after those hard hitters. The Party is just fun. Stress is stressful in the best way possible. One Minute to Midnight is like a spiritual successor to Television Rules The Nation. Not a huge EDM guy but this is my favorite type.
Incredible
Classic init. Loved it in my 20s.
4.5 Banger
Wow, what a great album. Super funky and groovy. All the tracks flow together really nicely too. Great production throughout too. Low 5.
This list invests so much in showcasing UK electronic acts, and every single one of those gets completely smoked by the French and German offerings.
Coolest album of its kind, 5/5 might edit later but yeah
Kwaliteitsmuziek.
Just a fantastic electronic album.
Best dance Electronic album out there
I remember first hearing Genesis in the balloonshop video about the coke ( MY LAST COKE, BALLOON SHOP, 2008 ) [Cited like a painting for the academics out there] --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- I remember not knowing what the song was for a long time thinking like that song was cool. I don't know how i re-discovered this album at all I just know i randomly have Justice-Cross attacks in which I have to listen to Justice-Cross or i will perish. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- I do remember hearing DANCE remixed by an furry musician and having the character accompanying it giving me strong gay feelings and not liking anything else associated with that character. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- I on occupation have bouts where I get back into producing music. Every time, without fail, I think of the production on this album. It makes me feel a certain way that makes me want to make things that very few other albums make me feel. This is also the only album that makes me feel this strongly on this website (The other ones are Crystal Castles 1-3, Snow Strippers S/t, Neo Wax Bloom, and Charmed (DJSTTDJ) --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- I remember not liking DVNO when I listened to the album so I'm going to release the review when the song plays again. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Update: I still do not like DVNO. The vocals kinda kill it for me. Waters of Nazareth is so good it makes up for me not liking it tho.

i love revisiting an album from 10+ years ago and finding it just as good as i remembered. man, i loved this album when it came out and i loved listening to it now. so energetic and buzzy and relentless and FUNKY. the best songs are the ones that incorporate funk samples. i was a little disheartened to check out their next album and find it much more mellow - imo, justice is at their best when their music sounds like a luxury car commercial (said as a compliment). this rules. shout out to french people.
i've always thought of justice as "that electronic group that was super popular in the late aughts that was in a ton of mashups at the time" but never really heard this album on its own beyond the D.A.N.C.E. single. turns out it's really fuckin good. these guys are basically just a harder, better, faster, stronger version of daft punk. there's some more edge and darkness to their music but otherwise it sounds uncannily similar to daft punk in their heyday. the powerful beats work great with the synth-driven instrumentation, and the micro-samples are second to none. as an album, it starts strong and ends strong. it starts to cave in around the middle and hits its lowest point with The Party (or as it's listed on Wikipedia, "Tthhee Ppaarrttyy"). not sure what possessed them to include that track, because the album would be much better without it. still, i don't think it's enough to detract from all the good things they've crafted here. fuck it, five stars. favorites: genesis, let there be light, d.a.n.c.e., phantom, dvno, stress (love the night on bald/disco mountain sample which i clocked immediately), waters of nazareth, one minute to midnight
Hard, full of energy. Melodically well crafted.
I'm convinced nobody does electronic like the French. Love Justice, and this is an easy 5*. Highlights: DNCE, DVNO, genesis, phantom pt1/2
Absolutely love this album. I could have sworn it came out even earlier cause I swear I remember listening to it in highschool before '05. Every song on this album is a banger, I even like The Party which everyone in these reviews seems to dislike. Favorite tracks: Let There Be Light, Phantom, Phantom Pt II. What introduced me to these guys was "Groovy Dancing Girl #2" on youtube. Turns out that was uploaded in 2007 so my memory is indeed foggy on timelines.
Sooooo good. I recognized a bunch of the songs but could not have time you who they were by. Easy 5.
2017. electro house
Awesome. Best dance album i have listened to
What a find!!!!!! The amount of time and the detail required to parse 400+ microsamples and stitch them together in this masterpiece is incredible. Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for electronica and this one is right up there. They brought the energy and the creativity to blow me away.
Love it, the french know their electronic 5/5
Vuuurrr super album
Nikad nisu ovo nadmašili ali je zato i dalje jeben. Meni osobno bolji od bilo kojeg albums daft punka
Yes
Fav: Valentine Least Fav: The Party If your worst track on the album is The Party, you’re doing something right. So far these electronica picks have been perfect
Pretty good way to start the week. Dance club music on a Monday morning. Boogie in the kitchen.
Surprised to have recognized Genesis and Stress. This was a fantastic electronic album that grabbed my attention right from the start.
Back to back 5*
Super creative album with a lot of diversity in the song selection, especially for dance album. Also very catchy (of course).
I love pop electronica. This feels like a precursor to dubstep, where I feel electronic really started pushing the boundaries for exotic "Transformer" sounds. Similar to the group Ratatat. The best here is Genesis, D.A.N.C.E., and Stress, which is genuinely stressful.
Incredible! This feels like a cornerstone of noughties dance - its clear as day that this was influenced by the likes of LCD Soundsystem, and feels like it went on to influence electronic, dance and maybe even dubstep music in the following years. Very big fan

"Cross (stylized as †)" is the debut studio album by French electronic duo Justice. According to the duo, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay who also self-produced the album, the album was composed as an "opera-disco" album. It contains many samples and microsamples, exceeding 400 including ones from Prince, Britney Spears and Madonna. The album was well-received critically and, commercially, hit #11 on the French charts and #1 on both the US and UK dance charts. The second single "D.A.N.C.E." is a tribute to Michael Jackson. A female is repeating the word "Dance" and "Do the dance". The song is more in the pop vein as the melody and bass sound like various Michael Jsckson songs. It's very catchy. "DVNO" features echoing vocals from Mehdi Pinson. It's funky and has a hard pounding beat. A synth-drum melody and a bass jam outro. "Stress" has fast, anxious, straining sample of David Share's "Night on Disco Mountain" from "Saturday Night Fever." It borders on being annoying. The drum beat is in the background and then picks up. An interesting bell outro. Static noise opens the first single "Waters of Nazareth." Synth keys and a disco beat pick up the pace. A decent song. This album sounds like the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack on steroids. It's also in debt to the music of Daft Punk. At the same time, almost every song that I heard emanating from the EDM area (Perry's) this weekend at Lollapalooza sounded somewhat like this album. So, it has been made a big impact on today's EDM scene. All songs have an underlying dance or disco beat. The variety of synths and sounds (mechanical, video game, layers, voices) lends to the variety between songs. I liked this album quite a bit. If you're an EDM, dance or disco fan, you'll like this album too.
This was a sensational album! I loved all the songs on it and I thought it had a great sound! Can't believe I've never heard of this album before
Really only knows the song “D. A. N. C. E.” but loved the whole record! Turns out I’m much more of a fan of electronic music than I thought. 5/5
I see no reason why i would not give this a 5 even if i try looking for excuses and the fact "The Party" is cheesy as hell. It sounds so powerful and full and the quality is amazing. What a fun listen I totally did not expect to like it this much.
My only knowledge of 10cc is from the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack so my expectations were pretty ambivalent to low which turned out in the albums favor. It started out pretty lame but gradually got more interesting as it went along even if it was only in brief moments and not any single song was a banger from start to finish. Baron samedi cane the closest though.
Justice are one of the only acts comparable to Daft Punk for me. I heard this album live in 2012, and it was intense. The whole album goes hard, isn't too long and is paced very well. Genesis is such a badass start to the album. "Phantom" and "Phantom Pt. II", and "One Minute to Midnight" are my favorite songs. 9/10 This album is iconic. Album art is sick too.
French touch
Deserved classic status
Not at all what I expected
A flawless expression of everything an electronica duo can and should be. Brilliantly visualized in its samples, soundstage and music videos. Absolutely as vital as anything ever put out by Pet Shop Boys, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, or Boards of Canada. This has all the style The Chainsmokers would later reach for without the servile fealty they swear to what will market profitably. Absolutely an essential electronica / DJ album, bar no era.
I adore this album as it was foundational in my clubby French DJ Duo phase
Even better than I remembered, daaaaaamn <3
5/5. I can admit not every song is perfect on here but gosh darn is this not a banger front to back or what? Each instrumental has unique beats and rhythms while sticking to the formula. The features are fun and the only improvement would be a more diverse track list setup such as 2 instrumentals -> song -> 2 instrumentals -> song, etc. Otherwise, awesome album still front to back. Best Song: Genesis, DVNO, Waters of Nazareth
Imagine my surprise when I learned there was a Phantom part one after loving Pt. II all this time. Loved the rest of the album as well! I just became a Justice fan.
Cross is Justice's debut album, and the album made the French producers into international stars. They bill the album as a "disco opera," an the result is one of the best electronic dance album ever produced. Their electro-house songs make extensive used of samples, and have an upbeat musicality that make the songs unforgettable.
Ich hol das jetzt no will das Album sött mir gfalle. Ersts sample mega geil, fuck de ersti bass ballert scho, genesis isch es meisterwerk. D.A.N.C.E isch so cool... Wow, I didn’t know there was another artist capable of doing what Daft Punk does. Prog-techno… is that a term? That’s how I’d describe both Daft Punk and Justice. This album has experimental bangers with weird rhythms and glitchy beat switches but also songs like “D.A.N.C.E.” which is pure dance floor candy and “The Party” which has incredibly charming guest vocals that feel like a monologue designed to pump you up for a Friday night out. And then a song like “Stress” comes in like a disco hurricane. I kept having to check to see when songs ended too — it’s mixed like a continuous DJ set. Brilliant album.
hey i hacked you
I really like this album. Cool sounds, very stimulating and danceable. Good movie soundtrack
Awesome album - these guys are excellent.
hurmuri, hypnoosialbumi, viehättäjät ranskanalaiset... sokea soittoniekka.. keskiosassa paskoja biisejä mutta prkl kyllä tykkään tästä pistää hyvälle päälle hurmurit.. olisi 16v meikän suosikkialbumeita mutta voin nykyäänkin kuunnella hävettämättä. toivottavasti lisää ranskalaisia ja brittejä ja saksalaisia elektronika artisteja tulee lisää.. ja ei vittu koskaan alankomaista tai belgiasta turhaa seutua, mitään sieltä tullut EI ALBUMEITA SIELTÄ...... I know this album by heart
I really liked this a lot. Like it was great. Yes I was surprised. 4.5
I've listened through this album hundreds of times by now. It is practically solely responsible for shaping my late teens. I can't not give it 5/5.
kleine Geschister von Stromae, synth-electro mit und ohne Gesang
Killer album. It's bops all the way down.
TIL all those great songs I could never assign to an artist were Justice Maybe the Metallica live album would have been better if they had collaborated with them, and maybe call the album "...and Justice for All"
Great dance album.
Just unpretentious fun. It goes hard.
This is the peak of electronic music, this is where it ends, and while other albums have tried to revitalize it in its entirety, whether that be the rise and fall of dubstep, its influence on pop music, or even good attempts such as Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, this is still where I consider it to have gone all out. It scratches every itch in my brain with its sharp melodies, while still knowing when to make a fantastic pop song or two, and on the opposite spectrum making the most sinister club bangers to ever be on market, all made on GarageBand of all things. There's rich instrumentation, fantastic bass, and I really love the more experimental stuff, such as the radio fuzz in Newjack, or the raw terror of Stress, which is perhaps the most apt song title in music history. Every single song here gets me hyped instantly, whether I actually feel like moving, am just driving my car, or sitting at home, this album always gets me in the mood to fucking jam. And those transitions! They're holy, some of the best in music. You can start this album and play it through to the end as one big song and be just as satisfied, something I feel a lot of albums from the 2000s lack. There isn't a track on here that I haven't adored at some point, and I truly find it to be a masterclass of music in general. I see why some would find it be generic, especially after the before mentioned dupstep boom, but for 2006 this is out of this world. It wears its influences on its sleeve, yes, but it elevates those influences to be something greater, and I truly think there is no match for it, save for perhaps Daft Punk's Discovery (well, and Sparks' No. 1 in Heaven but we're talking about another world with that one) and I'm so glad to have it in my life. The whole album is as if you were to ascend to Heaven and find out its just one big rave up there, and that is perhaps my favorite depiction of Heaven, and the religious iconography is a cool set piece without feeling cheesy. I just adore this record. God!
Listening to this album for the first time in 2023 was like a revelation. I had spent much of my adolescence, around 2011-2013, developing what would become my first self-made musical taste, listening to artists that were emulating this album. To finally hear it a decade later was like a veil had been lifted. I understood.
LOS PUTOS GOATs No necesitan recomendarme altísimos temardos. Si si aixina si, bastante upbeat tot. En acabar me'l tornaré a escoltar 11/5
oh lord its peak
Unbelievable. Listened 3 times
guy probably makes music the same way i use to smash buttons on the keyboard in year 7, yet sounds incredible
More of a 4.5 I love this albums it’s something listen to a lot. The aggressive synths / metal style production does it for me. The more vocal driven tracks on this album I find less enjoyable. One of my top alums of all time.
Not the biggest fan of electronic music. I think songs and albums of the genre need to be engaging, bring something unique to the table, and need the sound to build to something. This album does a solid job. I remember listening to some of the songs as a kid. “Opera-disco” with a lot of personality. Apparently has 100s of micro samples. Songs transition into one another, leitmotif of D.A.N.C.E. used throughout. I want to say that I dislike parts of the album because it’s electronic, but honestly I was impressed by how engaged it kept me throughout the runtime. One song I didn’t care for as much was Newjack, but even that song ends strongly. Standouts: Let There Be Light, D.A.N.C.E., Phantom, Valentine, Waters of Nazareth. I would give it a 4.25/5 right now, but I think it can only go up. Very enjoyable to finally listen to the whole album.
Bouncing beats, warped bass Non stop dance party special Unique electronic
You can’t convince me this isn’t Daft Punk sans helmets 5/5
Amazing album. Saw them live in Osheaga. Not a single song on this record I would skip.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this album since I wasn't familiar with the band at all. Even so, it was an amazing experience and I shall recommend this one to anyone that vibes with electro stuff. Fav tracks: - D.A.N.C.E. - Phantom Pt. II - The Party
Greatest electro record of all time
Love the deep notes. The bass really hits in the chest. Lots of songs I've heard but would never have been able to name the artist until now. Now I know. There must be some rocket League songs in here. After finishing this album, I give it a solid 5 stars. It has hints of everything.... Or rather, everything has hints of IT. Definitely a defining compilation of familiar sounds.
Super surprised by this one, really excellent electronic music. Waters of Nazareth is excellent!
Loved listening to this, breath of fresh air to have contemporary experimental-ish music. Going into my rotation of albums. 9/10
Justice are a French electronic/dance duo. It's like modern, electronic disco mixed with funk and house/techno music. It's really fuckin solid. What sets if apart from other electronica albums is the fact that it actually has a discernable beat and direction as opposed to just ambling about and not really accomplishing anything. It is very bass heavy. Similar to Daft Punk or Mr. Oizo or deadmau5. Favourite songs: Waters of Nazareth, Genesis, Let There Be Light, Newjack, Phantom, Phantom Pt. II, One Minute to Midnight Least favourite songs: Valentine 5/5
Hmm
Loved it
I love this album
good
Not only did I listen to the whole thing. I listened three times. It was a pleasure. genesis and one minute to midnight are the best songs
Great album 10/10
amazing. Loved it
Top tier album
amazing french edm
Favorite tracks: Genesis and D.A.N.C.E.
Fijne elektronische plaat.
Another album from my younger days that was an absolute staple. Havent had it on in years but even after the first note of Genesis it took me back to my 96 reg Corsa. Genesis is the track I’d have as my walkout theme if I was a boxer or a darts player, or if I was putting together a compilation of goals for Football Focus. Anyway, I loved this then and I love it now. Its cool as fuck without it ever being a dickhead. It makes me wish I could pull off a leather jacket and a fancy haircut and take up smoking. Manages to capture a lot of what was mint about mid 00s music without any of that landfill rubbish that clogged things up. Electro, dance, indie, some funky bass riffs. It’s big and bold without being crass. Here’s a big hill I’m prepared to die on: this is better than anything their compatriots Daft Punk ever did. 10/10
Along with daft punk and MSTRKTFT, Justice are the sort of rock driven dance music I can get on board with. Very nostalgic, D.A.N.C.E was an indie club staple in the uni days. While it isn't that varied, I'm not sure you'd expect much variation from an album like this. While I do have this album on my phone, not sure if I've listened to it in the last 5 years, so was great to hear again.
Really surprised by this - I can tolerate Daft Punk, and so roughly new what to expect. Valentine, Phantom Pt. II, Dance, and Genesis were my favourites. Sort of felt amped up but also chilled out afterwards. I didn't actually realise that so much of this album is used on soundtracks - felt sort of nostalgic and exciting. Almost no tracks outstayed their welcome either - and one or two ended too soon for me, which is rare. I'm struggling to think of a reason not to give a 5, so 5 it is.
Amazing
Creo que es el único disco que he escuchado de Justice. Muy bueno por cierto
I mean it's a fuckin banger. One of my favourite electronic records ever.
DO THE D A N C E, 1, 2, 3, 4, FIGHT! It's a 5/5 album. Favorite Track: D.A.N.C.E.
Electronic perfection
Muy bueno el estilo!
Great to listen to when playing games.
One of the best to ever do it
Great tunes for a day when you need some energy.
Starts out great but sort of a one-trick pony after that
Very pleasant surprise. Wish I found this much sooner.
This was really great. Never even heard of it before
This album is very nostalgic for me! Loved it then, and love it now!
This album is unashamedly electronic. Even the songs with samples and/or lyrics in them don’t shy away from their electronic roots. Great variety and very well produced.
It goes hard. Whenever I put this on in my headphones I will straight up struggle to resist dancing. Every single song does this. When I hear Genesis I transcend.
10/10 impressive as hell for 2007 it has such a crazy good, larger-than-life sound that I just absolutely adore
I always forget how good the rest of this album is, based on how good and popular DANCE is. The final two tracks are an amazing end.
This album was so good. I knew from the first song Genesis it was going to be a great album. It made something as mundane as a morning stroll with my daughter an epic adventure. The timing was perfection as I was pushing the kid in the stroller up the hill and stress came on it felt like Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill (thank you hades the game for that reminder). Can’t rate highly enough
I thought this was gonna be a bible thumper album but it was hardcore edium
Enjoyed most of the album. Electronic pop. Heavy synth puts it over the top. 5/5
Super fun
How have I never heard this? Fuck yes
This shit slaps
Classic French house, genuinely can't go wrong with this album it's just bangers start to finish
YEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! This is a perfect dance album.
Feels like being put in a dish washer, in a good way
Nice
Nyt oli kova. Oikeesti mielenkiintosta sämpläystä ja sämplejen käyttöä, PAKSUJA synasoundeja ja kova tanssimeno. Nice.
Dope
Fuck yeah!
This SLAPS
Love this album! Just love it!
I like this album a lot, D.A.N.C.E. is my favorite song on the album, but all if the songs do sound similar. This would be a good workout album to listen to.
Electric!
Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé are geniuses and masters of audio mixing. Plain and simple. This is one of the best electronic albums I've ever listened to. I've listened to everything Daft Punk has released and I've liked and respected their work but I've never /loved/ any of their albums. They've always come across as too basic and repetitive for my tastes. Then you've got a band like LCD Soundsystem where it seems like James Murphy listened to Daft Punk a little too much and thought "I could do this too", and became the derivative musical version of Ernest Cline. But, Justice... Wow. They really know how to sequence a song, keep it dynamic, and give it interesting melodies and harmonies, not to mention their amazing skill at texturing and sampling.
Fucking excellent
Awesome electronica!
how do i still remember all the lyrics to dvno. they're crazy for this one. 🎵 no need to ask my name to figure out how cool i am 🎵
i wiggled i danced i loved
Dank techno brub
Insane album
This album is a brilliant musical adventure. I didn't love every single track but every track surprised me and kept me engaged. I was looking forward to hearing what was next. There's nothing predictable about this album. It's something I would definitely listen to again and maybe the tracks I didn't like as much would warm up on me. Very pleased with this pick.
A very, very good album. All of the best songs were right at the beginning, and in my opinion it all kind of went down slightly as the album went on. There were no BAD songs, just less great ones. I wanted more from the ending but it was perfectly serviceable. I went into this album kind of expecting a slightly heavier Daft Punk, since they’re both French electronic duos. But that’s not at all what this is. There are a song or two that sound kind of like something Daft Punk would make (D.A.N.C.E for example), but other than those, it’s totally different. This album also has something that always makes an album 10x better for me: the tracks flow into each other. There’s almost never a pause between songs, it just keeps on going, it makes the album feel so much more cohesive. Loved this album, will probably listen again. 9/10 Top 5: 1. Let There Be Light 2. Genesis 3. D.A.N.C.E 4. Stress 5. The Party
fucking yes. Such a palette cleanser after Throbbing Gristle nearly drove me insane. I mean, anything after Throbbing Gristle is just gonna sound like hearing the fifth symphony for the first time, like I just discovered tonal harmony. But no. This is insanely good. Genesis is the most badass, microsampling, iPod-rattling, lightsaber-swishing song I've heard in a while. what happened to this kind of thing? Did everyone just get swept away by the tsunami of EDM and its spinoffs in 2010/2012? Because this is so fucking original and... cool. I want to be back in this world, where microsampling is cool again, Avalanches are cool again. And so original. Maybe the closest thing to me is early Daft Punk, but this is obviously far less reverent, more distorted, more experimental and ready to not give a fuck. Pure ear candy everywhere. And this really does sound like they made it on a Mac in 2007 running GarageBand with 256mb of RAM. I know I'm right. Limitations and creativity, man... Thank you 1001 for making me listen to this all the way through. It's a party! I still think it's cool. Guess I just want to live in 2007. 5/5
Good shit!
Justice has their jersey in the rafters of electronic music cause of this album 100%, love em
Genesis - Brilliant opening drop, great horns and keys building towards the transition into let there be light, that has fantastic energetic wobbly synths, nice frantic hi hat patterns leading to a contrasting happy, chill feeling outro. Dance is a classic, Stress lives up to it's name and waters of Nazareth gives me GTA4 nostalgia.
Banger, start to finish. Good techno funk, with catchy beats. Loved it, very nostalgic album
This is one of my all time favourites. Stress a song I listen to regularly to this day.
Banger of an album. D.A.N.C.E is up there with MGMT for me for nostalgia for the ABC years. Genesis, DANCE, Stress and Waters of Nazareth were especially great. I love listening to house and hearing parts that are just blatant disco. Makes real sense that Daft Punk would rope in Nile Rodgers on their last album.
sick as hell
Every track a banger, no notes
In the haze that came from Daft Punk's dominant grip on dance music, there may have been those who wondered who would be next in filling the shoes of the robots. Justice, while wholly more human after all, not only were up to the task but they did so with the pizzazz and sway that was clearly their M.O. Upon listening to Cross, one can be caught up in how persistent it is in its "dance-opera" ethos, finding themselves moving their hips and cutting up the rug with unknowingly ease. Also unknowing, yet rather obvious, is the long leash the album wields throughout the years; from the obvious Daft Punk approach to music to the sonic world building to even Uffie's rap that Kesha would soon bring into much wider consciousness on The Party. All in all, Cross is an album that bears repeat listening and has all the tools needed for a grand old time.

This album is classic for me. It's like Daft Punk, but way more engaging for me because there are tweaks on each bar every time it's repeated. It's enough that I don't get bored. Also, none of the songs are too long, which is a real bonus. Other than their live albums, none of the rest of Justice ever clicked like this one does, but this one clicks like a motherf*cker. 5/5
There's a select few albums that fill me with excitement when I see them come up on the list, and this is definitely one of them. What the hell is it with so much amazing electronic music coming out of France in the 90's and 00's? This is like Daft Punk's edgy goth younger brother. It's got a lot of funky disco flair, with bright strings that permeate through the music, and yet, It's awash with distortion, it's full of glitches and artefacts. While there's the obvious and possibly undeserved parallels between Justice and Daft Punk, it's clear that Justice were doing a lot of their own things and really venturing into new territory with this. Cross bridges the funky and danceable with the heavy and badass in a way I don't think a lot of electronic albums have done, and I imagine that this must have had a ton of influence on electronic genres going into the 10's: Dubstep, Glitch Hop, House and EDM as a whole, and more recent trends like Synthwave and Cyberpunk music. This sounds futuristic as hell today - I can only imagine how this felt in 2007. It's an excellent album that I definitely need a physical copy of. Favourite: Genesis
It could be easy to dismiss this as a Daft Punk rip off but Justice brings an intensity and unique production style to the French house scene. There's often a fine line between sampling as a lazy way to make music and being a genuinely interesting process. With over 400 samples and micro-samples, Justice are firmly justified in their approach, akin to artists like DJ Shadow or the Avalanches. The result is an album that's deeply rooted in the 70s, disco and funk traditions but is coated by an industrial sheen. Perfect for a good pair of headphones.
Great album, one of the best albums I have ever heard. Always thought this album was rock/metal whenever I seen the cover
french guys always make good house and electronic music; this album is no exception.
fuck yeah
Normally not my style of music, but I really enjoyed this one. Cool electronic music. Not sure the sub-genre but I liked it.
Today’s album comes with a side order of nostalgia. A close friend of mine, known as Jam Scones, was really into some songs by Justice many moons ago. Back then, just like today, I tend to ignore most things he says so didn’t really give Justice much of a chance back in the day. Let’s find out today! Songs I already knew: D.A.N.C.E Favourites: D.A.N.C.E, One Minute To Midnight This was such a fun, feel-good album. The bass synth makes my throat feel like it’s rattling, and I love it. The composition throws some strings in here and there, making it feel like a funky orchestra playing alongside a DJ. This is the kind of album that is very easy to dance and let loose to, and a definite addition to party playlists. There isn’t much to really fault here. I had a really good time listening to it, and have been singing D.A.N.C.E to myself all day.
Bombastic and lurid, but still retains a certain delicate melodic quality. A modern classic.
wow, great find! epic, up there with Glitch Mob and similar, and wonderful to get introduce,d thanks!
A bop. Had heard D.A.N.C.E. before.

Love this. Happy to relisten to it.
Meilleurs que Daft Punk. EDIT DU FUTUR: C’EST UNE DES PLUS GROSSES BOMBES DE LA LISTE, MAIS NE SHIT TALK PAS SUR DAFT PUNK MON PTIT CRISSE
Perfect
I knew I was in for something good when I saw that Daft Punk (my favorite electronic artist) offered Justice to open for them. I generally don’t like the vocal songs - ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ is an obvious exception - and ‘The Party’ and ‘DVNO’ are the low points, although the music is still good. Otherwise, good instrumentals all around.
Not my personal favorite of Kendrick but one of the best albums in general for him and rap
Rating: 10/10
Somewhere along the way you heard an album that changed everything – an album that transcended your personal understanding of music and showed you that there was so much more. I wasn’t unfamiliar with Justice as a group before I listened to Cross, but I hadn’t taken in much of their musical output. Even as a 12 to 13-year-old the cross iconography seemed a bit edgy, and what tracks I had encountered on Pandora hadn’t resonated and most always used up an hourly skip. It took a particularly boring day in freshman Bio to give in to Youtube’s insistence I listen to “Justice - Cross [FULL ALBUM]” after it had languished in my recommended section for a good long while. The opening brass section of ‘Genesis’ was all it took to get me locked in for the next hour and redefine what I knew an album could be. Cross’s strength is managing to build up a completely logical hourlong LP out of the most disparate, batshit-insane bloghouse tracks produced in the genre’s short span in the spotlight. Each track is a small little world in its own right, an escapade through corners bright and dark alike. ‘Genesis’ wastes no time in wiping the floor with expectations, delivering a massive brass overture that tumbles into the grimiest, slitheriest club staple known to man. Any other album would take the hint from the jet-black album cover and keep things in the dark of the dance floor for the next track, but no, ‘Let There Be Lite’ is a slippery, nervous romp that goes for blowing the tweeters instead of the subs. This constant reinvention never stops once over the LP’s 48-minute runtime – from the absolute earworm smash that is ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ to the claustrophobic ‘Stress,’ Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay create, destroy, and demolish any kind of consistency while maintaining an incredibly tight sense of cohesion. The seamless bleeding of tracks into another (something which blew my mind as a 14-year-old raised on Top 40 and Red Dirt radio) definitely helps keep this paradox afloat, each auditory assault seeming to both rise from the ashes of the previous track and simultaneously rush into existence from the vacuum. But so too does the airtight production and omnipresent sense of goddamn slickness contribute to the sense that this album knows exactly what it is and what it’s meant to do. Not one of the 400-odd microsamples across this thing feels out of place, each distorted, chopped, and twisted beat or melody fitting effortlessly into Justice’s chaotic jigsaw. What should be an absolute mess of ideas is instead a laser-guided missile made up of jagged 808s, slap bass, overdriven synths, and a few Britney Spears samples, a motley crew of influences that lands the mark every single time. The dynamism here astounds; while all loosely assembled under the dance/electronica umbrella, the tracks cut a wide swath across all parts of the era’s electronic sound. ‘DVNO’ leans into club music with a vengeance, forging a 4-on-the-floor tongue-in-cheek banger in both melody and lyrics alike. ‘Newjack’ presents a twitchy take on acid house, the sound unmistakable but the composition unstable and spastic. ‘Waters of Nazareth’ is a close personal favorite, a take-no-prisoners onslaught of gritty synths and triumphant organ that finds the album at its sonic peak (both in dB and rising action). The ‘Phantoms’ present Justice’s spirit the best, the domineering Pt. I reimagined with a dancefloor-friendly swagger on Pt. II immediately preceding. It was unlike anything I’d ever heard before – not just the brimming, untouchable textures each track contained, but a fully-realized artistic vision, a complete statement in its own right. Cross was the first album I listened to as an album, and even today I can’t dip my toes into one track without throwing the whole thing on from front to back. Justice’s opus isn’t without its Achilles (‘The Party’ is an unfortunate bit of label meddling, with Uffie hogging the spotlight on a wholly unearned and uninspired guest vocal), but this humanizes the ordeal if anything. It’s still by far the closest an album has gotten to perfection in all my listening, and little has done to touch it in the years since I clicked play on an unassuming YouTube album rip.
I think this album was my second step of my relationship with electronic music (the first one being Daft Punk). Justice with their kind-of-chaotic music opened a door to a whole new world to me. The thing I appreciate the most about Cross album is the feeling of unity of the whole album, I love it.
I could rate "Cross" without listening - just based on my memory but every excuse is good to listen this album one more time. It is one of my favourites electronic music. Songs fading out and fading in from one to another makes listening it very smooth. I love those a little bit noisy sounds, I love this energy 12/10
One of my favorite albums from the 2000s. This record is funky, danceable, and consistently interesting. The use of glitches is just impeccable. It's a shame they could never quite recapture the magic but this (and the live album) will always be there.
Funky electro beats that defined their own genre at the time
Loved

Starts off with a kind of cyberpunk-like sound, and I gotta admit, I dig it. Album kept going, and my love only grew. I thought I would dislike the songs with vocals, but they're actually pretty unironically good. Even 'TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY,' which, yeah, was a traditional party girl song. I dug it. Maybe a little grating towards the very end, but still a really solid album.
A fantastic dark, moody, dance, synthy techno album, verging on all the qualities that make Dark Synthwave a powerhouse genre today, just a bit earlier than id ever expected. I liked, quite literally, every song on this album.
