Nothing about this feels right. This is like the Indian ripoff of the Shaft soundtrack. Or like an early 70s Bond movie score. It's worse than both of those. Five minutes of One Two Cha Cha Cha is five minutes too many. Annnnnd....some movie dialogue. This thing is pushing all the wrong buttons. I don't understand how this made the list. Countess' Caper now sounds more like a classic 30s/40s adventure film score. They just added an Indian touch to every style of Western soundtrack from the dawn of sound in films. This cannot be the best Bollywood soundtrack of all time. Romantic Theme sounds more like Creepy Theme.

Pick a genre and throw it in. There's even a bit of Spaghetti Western! Surely there is an Indian artist that demonstrates this culture better than a film soundtrack.

I see the "sound of the 70's" pervaded all the way to Bollywood. Oh good gracious, this is unintentionally hilarious. Is this a test to see if we listen, because this feels like a joke that has been played on me or more likely I am not the target audience of this soundtrack.

How does a 48-year-old Bollywood soundtrack be selected as one of the '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' lists? I'm pretty new to Bollywood music, but if this is supposed to be one of the highlights, I really hope I never stumble across the low points. Honestly, I just didn't enjoy the album at all.

I understand that this list has to be a "worldwide" list, but here's a partial list of artists with 150m+ records sold who are nowhere to be found on this list: Garth Brooks Phil Collins (solo) Drake Celine Dion Ed Sheeran And we get this shit, instead? Just listen to One Two Cha Cha Cha and it gives you all you need to hear about this album, which shouldn't be near this list.

This is exactly what I would expect from a Bollywood movie with Rex Harrison in it. I can’t think of a reason why it would be on this list, apart from we’re all different.

This is #day374 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I was trying to approach this as open-minded as possible, but I failed eventually. Track #5 was the last drop. I mean, a Bollywood movie soundtrack? I was aiming for at least a 2, but I just couldn't, I'm sorry. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day375.

I’m at a complete loss as to why this album makes this list. Not only the inclusion of a movie soundtrack questionable but the quality of the music is so bad it is contemptuous to most of the other artists on the rest of the list. It reminds me of the kiddies cassettes I bought my son as a singalong. If anyone knows The Wiggles you’ll get my drift. Thing is The Wiggles did have degree of talent unlike anything on this album. I accept that this may be a tick box exercise and a nod to the Wokerati to include some Indian music on the list. But then again why when Ravi Shankar is already included? It is a crime that a maestro like Ravi shares this list with dross like this. But I have said that about other included albums but this one is definitely at the bottom of a shitty barrel. 1/5 12/8/25

This would be a perfectly acceptable soundtrack to wolfing down a lamb bhuna and a couple of Cobras in the Shabab. However, a place in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die is probably a step too far.

My wife is from India and loves Bollywood movies. Over the years I have seen many of these to be cheesy in the worst possible I also find the music, including this soundtrack, to be formulaic and a very difficult listen. Hard pass.

I had never heard this before, I admire the musicianship but unfortunately it's really not my thing.

Finding this album was tough. When I found it would it be worth the listen??? The first track was awful and really hard to listen too. I am not sure why and how movie soundtracks make this list. It didnt make me want to watch the movie. Favourite song: If I had to pick one it would be one two cha cha cha. At a push. I wouldnt mind never hearing it again. One two cha cha more like bad. the rest was less bad but not very good 2.5/10

Most of this wasn’t bad, however that second song “one two cha cha cha” was the closest I’ve been to just turning off one of these albums and not returning. That song was one of the most annoying things I’ve heard in a long time. Without that this is probably a 5 or 6, but that song makes it a 3/10

Schlechte Bollywood Musik

A hilariously bad spy movie with an equally cheesy soundtrack, mimicking funk OSTs in the US combined with Indian pop, dance, and classical music. It's a huge mess, and the movie hardly even emphasizes the soundtrack beyond a few scenes, like the one where the acrobat lady parkours her way through the mansion only to step on a land mine right before taking the sacred stone. If you want a taste of 70s Bollywood music, I guess this shows that diversity. R. D. Burman was one of the most popular Bollywood music producer, and his talent does show with how varied his style is. These songs rely on goofy cliches. Most of them aren't suited for the film (as proved by their use in the movie) due to the emphasis on singing and pop characteristics abandoned by the movie. The songs themselves do have redeemable qualities. There's some cool stuff in there, but it doesn't come together well at all. Almost all the tracks are either boring or straight awful, and the only tracks I like just have qualities that appeal to me, but are just characteristic in Indian or funk music in general. By no means impressive or noteworthy. Favorites: Aaina Wohi, Mera Pyar Shalimar

BL: An album and artist I’ve never heard of. This is my first film soundtrack as far as I’m aware so excited to hear this one. Always loved Bollywood and the music from it is always absolutely great AL: didn’t like this at all to be honest. There were some moments when the choral vocals were being layered on tracks like “Aaina Wohi Rehta Hai” at the start but just when I felt like there were gonna be some cool psychedelic or drone parts introduced it was replaced by some standard Indian pop. Really not my thing. FT: “Tum Ek” 1/5

A soundtrack carries about as much weight on this list as live albums. You should have Empire Records, or The Adventures of Priscilla, or etc... I would like to see this movie, just to see someone do KC and the Sunshine Band, if only for a smidge.

But after hearing this record, so I’m wondering why we were given this one as opposed to countless objectively better albums. Some of the jazzier tracks kind of work here, but it’s not often we get it.

The soundtrack to the most expensive Bollywood film ever (relative to when it was released)? Well, OK. I really liked the 70s-funk laden sounds of the intro track. I desperately wished that continued throughout the album but it didn’t. Winds up being kitschy fun for me, but not much else.

Feeling very open to world music, I was optimistic coming into this. I ended up giving up half way through my second listen. The music was horribly repetitive and the vocals were more annoying than anything else. Though some songs were catchy and had addictive melodies, they were catchy in a negative way. Won't listen to it again, but I acknowledge its appeal. 1.5/5

I refuse to believe this is the Indian album I need to listen to before I die. Some cool instrumentals but wouldn’t return to this. Honestly seemed kind of white washed, there is no way “One two cha cha cha” is the pinnacle of western music. Had high hopes for this and it did not live up to being on this list although I certainly don’t have any context from the movie
