Reviews (page 6 of 7)

I’m not sure why this is here…

Some of it was very cool. Some of it was quite unusual. Still not quite sure what I thought of it.

Look, I've had to sit through a lot worse on this list in the few months I've been going through it.

Guys, I'm starting to think that Robert Dimery is completely clueless when it comes to world music and is picking random shit for the sake of it. Haha, the original entry on the list was a bootleg of this album? Holy shit, this dude just straight up had no idea what he was doing.

Lo siento, no me ha gustado.

I've heard much better bollywood soundtracks. this might just be too old for me

I had very low expectations for this album because of the album artwork and it also being from 1978, but I am sure this was a huge bop of an album when it came out because it sounds very interesting. Now, is it an absolutely great album - I don't really think so, but I just found it very intriguing for its time and the first half of the album sounds relatively nice.

I didn’t get the chance to fully listen to this album due to time constraints but the few songs I heard weren’t for me. Turns out a movie soundtrack can be pretty bad without the movie to support it.

Shalimar is an interesting album as it is actually the soundtrack for a movie of the same name. It makes me wonder why can't other movie soundtracks like "Star Wars A New Hope" or "The Lion King" be on this list. Anyway this sounds like granny music. Some of it is really good and interesting while as other parts straight up suck. Weird album but balances to be a 2.

Feel like I didn’t vibe with this quite as much as everyone else did 🫣

Ultimately I felt this album was a bit generic and overly western compared to the Bollywood soundtracks we listened to around the house when I was a child. It was very jarring to hear an English language sung tune too... I was a bit disturbed by the music here and generally confused at this album's presence as this album's inclusion on this list seems to be the only noteworthy thing about it... some of the instrumental tracks were pretty good and I enjoyed the Hindi sung songs but One Two Cha Cha Cha was maybe the most grating and perturbing song I have heard in a long time...

p345. 1975. 2 stars. Weird selection. Schizophenric Indian film score that pilfers from multiple music genres. Well done, but why is this on the list? It feels like an afterthought - "better have some Bollywood in there, but make it accessible."

Well that was interesting but not really something I'd put on a must hear list.

This would be perfect background music for driving around downtown Toronto There were several moments I enjoyed, but overall I just don’t feel like it deserves higher than a 2

Weird background noise. One star extra for the cha cha, that was fun.

I feel that I should have liked this more than I did but to be honest I found it really cheesy and I don’t generally like soundtracks. First two songs were the highlight for me

Not my cup of tea, but better than expected. 2.5.

I’m sure this choice has nothing to do with Rex Harrison.

Interesting old soundtrack, and broke up some of the monotony of my more recent albums. Pretty unique but I won't be picking this up again. 2/5

Uhh ya sure I guess…. It was kinda fun, never having heard of this movie, making up a story while listening to the soundtrack based on how everything sounded. For a Bollywood movie it had a very eclectic variety of sounds and genres. Like at one point it had this very Spanish/American vibe where it was like something out of zorro. Maybe this was a super important Bollywood movie at the time but idk if I could truly feel the significance of this

Spunky and fun but also all over the place. I didn’t really feel it was cohesive. I bet I would have a liked it more if I had seen the movie. Oddly, a lot of the songs sounded very familiar. So either songs I’ve heard stole from songs on this, songs on this stole from songs I’ve heard, or I actually have heard some of these songs somehow.

I’m not a Bollywood expert but this is pretty much exactly what I was thinking a 70s Bollywood soundtrack was going to sound like. It’s not bad by any means, just not knowing anything about the movie or being able to understand the lyrics puts you at a disadvantage. A little dated but the vibes are solid.

It's been interesting listening to this album and getting a feel for the genre at that time. Having spent some time in India it provided some nostalgia, but it's not got me wanting to explore much further. Glad I've got to know it a bit, but don't plan to return too often.

a few great songs and a ton of forgettable

A pretty lazy entry to the list I think. I bet there’s thousands of other albums like this that are way better. Ah well. Not annoying but not for me

Definitely sounds like a movie soundtrack

For some (perhaps justified?) reason, I thought this collection avoided soundtracks, so this is a double-surprise, and not in a good way (one for being a soundtrack, the other for seeming out of left field music- and album-wise). In fact, I'm not at all sure I listened to the "official" album for today, as nearly every YouTube/YouTubeMusic entry seems to have different "songs" and titles, and in different orders, which is a lot more annoying thank intriguing, especially since there's not really any sort of explanation or translation of the lyrics. I guess this would be a lot more interesting if I'd seen (or bothered to see) "Raiders of the Sacred Stone", I guess. Or was at all familiar with "the legendary music composer R. D. Burman" and his trajectory in Hindi music films. My two-star rating is more for how baffling this entry was in the collection than for the music itself (which seems both fine and definitely not to my taste).

It’s so hard to rate something like this. What the hell do I know about Indian music from the 70s? I honestly had fun listening to this album, despite having no idea what was going on. Very strange experience. Let’s do the cha-cha-cha doo doo!

There has gotta be some better Bollywood music out there....this was OK. Listenable.

Not my thing Won't listen again Low 2

A soundtrack to a Bollywood film that I've never heard of. No problems for sticking a Bollywood soundtrack in here, it's just if this is the best to offer, then I'm fine if I don't bother hearing another one. Probably helps if you know the film? Best Tracks: Title Music (Shalimar); One Two Cha-Cha-Cha; Hum BewafaHargiz Na Thay

I’m yeah. I listened didn’t really need to

I liked some of the instrumentals, but I did not like the singing.

not really a fan of sound track albums, like i wouldn’t listen to this on my own time at all

Fela Kuti and Austin Powers go to Bollywood for a funky jazzy set of show tunes. All sorts of 60s pop psychedelic sounds combined with Indian instruments and harmonies, driving rhythms and a swinging 70s internationalism all in service of big musical motifs. Some of it sounds like it's from a noir, some for a james bond, some for a.big dance number, and some like a spaghetti western. The songs are pretty overlong, there's plenty of schmaltz, and it's all pretty cheesy - but a fun album. Not really something I'd plan to listen again, but it piques interest in what was going on in South Asian popular culture around this time and why this soundtrack in particular is featured.

I'm a fan of classical Indian music, but not Indian film music. This is a strange mix of Indian film music and western 1970's music, with several songs sung in English. It all sounds a bit dated now.

Not really sure how to rate this. It's like a bhangra version of the Glee soundtrack.

Bollywood music is certainly not my favourite. But in this case I expected more. Maybe it get's better with repeated hearing but I gave up after one time ...

Disco & Bollywood - so very 70s

some of it is okay, the Naag Devta song is annoying

Interesting.

strange

Bara furðulega skemmtileg .... en ekki beint genre sem ég gæti hugsað mér að hlusta mikið á

The obligatory "you've probably never heard of em" album.

It's good to listen to something new but I don't think I'll be going back to this much!

I will quickly acknowledge that I have no awareness of Bollywood or Indian music at all. This is an interesting listen, but it doesn't resonate with me at all. Even so, this is a great example of why I'm doing 1001 albums in the first place - I'm interested in expanding my interests, even if the generator doesn't always hit. With all that said, I'm probably never going to listen to this again, and I'm probably not going to track down the film to watch it. Favorite tracks: - Baby Let's Dance Together - Romantic Theme

I acknowledge that my lack of familiarity with some of the musical styles in this album may be the underlying issue. But I can’t give it more than two stars if I would be bothered by the thought of having to listen to it again. I often enjoy music from other cultures but this album wasn’t one of those times.

I'm very confused by this album. It's not very bad and I shook my butt at some of the songs. Would not listen again and I think it is bizarre this soundtrack is on the list.

Some interesting songs on this, but a few stinkers as well. Still it was different and glad to have listen to it.

A soundtrack to a movie I've never heard of in a style of music I'm not familiar with. It wasn't great but there were one or two songs that were listenable.

Bollywood at its best? Some catchy tunes but what do I know?

What the what?

I am befuddled. I am confused. I am disoriented. I am possibly even bewildered. There are a few albums that have made me really think as to how they could have made the list. And this is only the second soundtrack I’ve had so far. Soundtracks seem like odd albums to have on this list. Because what are they really essential for other than when you are watching the movie? But I’m just not sure what to say. I’m sort of at a lack of words. I would like to know how the author even found this and decided it would be a good idea to put in the book. Maybe the movie was some massive hit in Bollywood, but that means he must have seen the movie, heard the soundtrack and decided it fit the bill. It’s got no hits. And it’s not like it has had much influence on anything. This isn’t a well known genre for audiences outside of India. I’m not even mad this is here and other albums aren’t, like I am with other less than satisfactory albums. I just can’t fathom why. I guess I’ll admit that I do enjoy some of the funkiness and jazziness on a few songs. But there were just too many moments where I shook my head and thought to myself, “Am I actually listening to this whole thing right now?” But I refuse to back down and give an album up, even if I’m bored by it and not having fun. I understand how massive of an umbrella term World music is, and how does still represent musical history. But it doesn’t change the fact that this isn’t very good. Skip this. There is almost no reason not to. Rating: 3/10

Mischung aus indischem Pop, Bollywood und etwas Ennio-M.-Diebstahl

This is a rare example of what I expected from this list. This is a really interesting listen, overall I don't really like it. But at least it was something worth hearing once. So many albums on here sound like a lot of other albums. Then there's the super popular albums... an album everyone has heard doesn't need to be on a list of albums you need to hear. So, thanks for this at least.

How fun. Like 70s schmaltzy James Bond.

I did enjoy this but it’s not something I’d listen to again so it’s got to be 2

B.S. de película de Bollywood. No soy fan. Un 2.

Lo siento, no me ha gustado.

Maybe a good example of the category, it's hard for me to imagine a scenario where I would go back and put this on

Not my jam

Late 70s bollywood is a fun listen but not something I would add to my regular collection or play at a party. Unless it was a bollywood party.

I perceived this as whiny.

This album would be playing in the background, depending on the song, you would get, “what the H are we listening to?” In the most positive and most negative light. Has some good stuff and other songs, just not for me. 2.5/5

eh whatever

Best Song: Baby Let's Dance Together. Bollywood thrash jazz. Rips around at a nice pace to keep it interesting. Worst Song: Aaina Wohi Rehta Hai. The vocals too shrill and the audio recording too poor. Overall: It's not for me, and honestly I'm not really sure why it's for this list. It's a soundtrack, so I feel like listening to it here doesn't make much sense, and the Wikipedia page doesn't seem to indicate that the movie was all that important in its genre either. What gives.

I'm not the biggest fan of listening to movie sound tracks without watching the movie. This was probably a banger for its time but I wasn't really feeling it. - 5/10

4/10 - It was alright in one two cha cha cha I thought the "that's the way I like it" was very out of nowhere and caught me off guard. I feel like I was missing a lot since its a soundtrack without a movie.

Would probably be a good movie. Could see how the soundtrack would be bangin. I was in at first then I got over it pretty quickly.

This album had some interesting elements to it but it wasn't really my thing and I'm not much of a fan of soundtracks. There's got to be better Indian music out there.

Not my thing but listenable

This was fun to listen to. I generally like movie soundtracks. No clue what they are saying. Production quality is trash today but I’m sure at the time this was considered legendary. I would listen to this music again as a meme but that’s about it. Joe is a racist. 4/10

One two cha cha cha doo doooo. 4/10

2 but only because it could have been worse

It feels a little strange to have just one movie soundtrack on this list 1089 albums. It's even more odd that if you are going to include only one soundtrack, that THIS is the one you choose. I suppose it must be influential somehow, as it's not especially striking. Also a point off for the cheesiness of the final track, 'One Two Cha Cha Cha'. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Naag Devta Date listened: 09/12/23

We’ll, THAT’S something I never would have listened to without this list… Tough to rate since I have no reference point for it. Not for me though.

Nice to have something a bit different. I enjoyed One Two Cha Cha Cha for the novelty factor, and Romantic Theme (Shalimar) is lovely, but I've heard much more dynamic and atmospheric Bollywood music - for example Malhari, from Bajirao Mastani.

Of all the Bollywood movies this is the soundtrack he chose to put on the list!? I'm not super into my Bollywood but this would never be a soundtrack I'd choose. Overall the OST sounds very dated and I wasn't a fan, especially "Aaina Wohl Rehta Hai" with the very high pitched singing just grates on me. Highlights: One Two Cha Cha Cha Hum Bewafa Hargiz Na Thay

Safe to say I did not share Graeme's enthusiasm for this! It was nice to have something a bit different, bit I'm sure there's better examples of Bollywood or Indian music than this out there. I don't mind movie soundtracks being on this list in principle, but this really sounded like the songs belonged in a movie and I didn't like it. Interesting in parts, but also silly and cheesy. Won't be back, but I would like to hear better examples of this kind of music!

A Bollywood soundtrack!? Are soundtracks allowed here? Because I have some soundtracks I could suggest. I was kind of excited for some Bollywood music. But this barely felt like what I expected from Bollywood. It barely felt Indian at times, with seemingly a lot of influences from American styles like jazz and pop standards. Fun at times, but maybe I should watch “Shalimar” to get it in the full context.

Bollywood

Quite difficult to rate this when I've never seen a Bollywood film before

Strangely interesting music but don't understand any of the words.

I don't think that I belong to this album's target audience. Some of the tracks are alright, but generally I wouldn't really listen to this album again. 2/5

I liked the horns and it felt very western. Interesting and unique sound but not my favorite. I kind of want to watch the movie now but it seems a little cheap to include this album on the list. Like I respect that they wanted to include some Indian music (and there’s nothing particularly bad about this soundtrack) but it feels like maybe the author googled “best Bollywood musical” without much more thought. Shalimar watch party soon?

Slightly fun, not terrible, but definitely dated.

The fact this is a soundtrack is negative. I like the genre but put it in a soundtrack (especially from a 70s movie) and you inevitably end up with lame orchestration and soupy ballads.

A few gems, but ultimately this just wasn't for me. Maybe I need to see the movie first.

I'm confused why this is on the list. It's definitely a soundtrack. A soundtrack to a movie I'm now curious to see, which is good! It wasn't BAD, but it just really lacked any significant impact without the context of the film. I guess I'm trying to say that it sounds like it is meant to be a soundtrack to a movie and less so an album to be enjoyed on its own. I didn't not like it, but this did almost nothing for me. Giving it a 3 feels too generous, while giving it a 2 feels unfairly harsh. I'm at a bit if a loss on how to rate this one, but I've been much more critical of albums that stand on their own as just an album so, I guess 2 it is. I'm not proud of this one.

You can tell this was done in the 70s. It just oozed all the stylings of those 70s-era movies. I did not like the high-pitched singing in Mera Pyar Shalimar, it was rather nasally and grating. The opening song was good, but dripped that 70s style. The Romantic Theme, did not seem very romantic to me. I think the crossing over of some of the genres was somewhat interesting, but it was still a basic Bollywood soundtrack. I am just not sure why this was included as one of the albums to listen to. One, two, cha cha cha.

wtf is this bro

not necessarily my cup of tea, but fine.

both mad and crap, and I quite like a bit of bollywood

It was definitely something new. Might need another listen to like it more

And the inevitable question is, if Bollywood is a category of music that's officially recognised by this list here, then why this one out of all the millions out there, and even more importantly - why only* this one? * Out of the 878 albums served to me here thus far, this is the first to come from Bollywood. There were 3-4 other Indian music albums thus far.

Not very garam masala

Takes me back to my childhood and our Indian neighbours - great times, with great food and such a welcoming family, but this isn't something I'd listen to other than for nostalgia purposes.

3/10. I might be being a little hard on this, just because most of the Indian music that's been on this list has been pretty enjoyable. But this just got on my nerves a bit. There was also the fact that while this is far from the only album on here that is the soundtrack to a movie, this is the only one where it *feels* like you are listening to a soundtrack, and like this really is only intended to be listened to as part of a movie.

Rating:5/10

First song or two were awesome, very funky. After that it became clear this was less about the music and more about the movie so it wasn’t as fun a listen

't is eens iets anders. Maar niet zo m'n ding

Excuse me, my weird aunt got me this album for Christmas. Can I please exchange it for something cool instead? Like, Village People or Kool & The Gang? I'd even take a Boney M if you've got it. Please, help me out man!

I can see how this inspired... the Austin Powers soundtrack? It feels like what it is. Namely, a cheesy, 70s film. This album highlights a problem with this list. Albums are often added too hastily and it seems to take an act of God to get them removed. The stated goal is cultural relevance but, so often, albums are added to the list when their relevance hasn't yet been shown. On the flip side, albums that maybe seemed like they were going to be relevant and spawn a whole family of related artists are left on the list long after their family tree has withered and died. "Shalimar" is one such album. This whole musical idea proved to be untenable and, subsequently, disappeared from the cultural zeitgeist. Let it die and get it off the list.

Shalimar misses a lot, this is a soundtrack to something to watch, not to be listened to in isolation. It just doesn't resonate. 2.

This was not great, and I don't get why it's on this list? If you're going to include Indian music (and you probably should given the population makes up 20% ish of the world) then include something made for the purpose of being listened to, rather than something that is setting the scene for something more visual and vocal! We've had a couple of movie soundtracks (and at least this one is for a film that actually exists), but this one doesn't seem to have anything that makes it special. 2/5.

I was excited to see something like this pop up. I was hoping for some tabla and hearty eastern rhythms. This did not eventuate. Poorly recorded and a bit grating.

I tried to keep an open minded given it is a musical culture completely foreign to me and could not relate to, but listening to this was absolutely dreadful.

Yeah, I really didn't enjoy this. Not just because of the style but also just for the fact of this being a movie soundtrack. Why would I want to listen to music that was made to accompany a very specific context without that context? This list waaayyy too infrequently ventures outside of US and UK and even more infrequently outside of North America / Europe. So at least it was something different. But I'm sure you could've found something better to represent this style of music.

I don’t know how to rate this in all honesty, I think it was creative and interesting but just something I wouldn’t really listen to again. It was different for sure and I see why it is important.

The cha cha song is such a bop, but the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to that.

I am glad I took the time to read about the movie before listening. This album sounds like a soundtrack, obviously based heavily in Indian Culture. It is good for what it is, though I do not understand what qualified it for this list.

For a Bollywood movie soundtrack I actually expected worse. This was okay as it was jazzy and had solid instrumentals. Overall though I don’t see any reason why I would revisit it when there are far more exceptional jazz albums out there. 3.6/10

Some half decent songs in between the dross.

Couldn’t get through the whole thing some of the songs were cool and interesting some were extremely weird (the first song) it’s a light two

Not sure why this Bollywood album was picked. Is it the greatest? I'm not an expert. Interesting but i would never play it again. Way too diverse. And a bit cheesy at times.

I don’t really have anything to compare this to but just going off of my own tastes I didn’t really enjoy this album

Quite an assortment of styles. Goofy at times.

A little unusual

I wasn't a huge fan, but my cat seemed to like it because he came and layed down on top of my phone while it was playing.

Just too far from what I know how to assess.

Interesting in parts

Thanks. Won’t be back though.

The album is entirely forgettable. It is music from a Bollywood movie. It is not sitar heavy but it isn't great. It is relatively short. I will round up.

Yeah nah

Kind of interesting and amusing to hear such a varied mixture of styles and international music. I’d never listen again so I’m only giving 2 stars, but it’s really not bad, just quirky.

The over-emotional shrieking grief of twats

I actually enjoy Bollywood music and I was excited to hear this because... well, if I'm supposed to hear it before I die it must be good, right? But I was disappointed. The score was good, but it was to a drag to get through the rest of the album.

There are so many better indian albums out there than a mediocre soundtrack of a mediocre bollywood movie. "Cha cha cha" indeed.

Too long & boring bollywood soundtrack. Feel like they were missing some indian music and they just google indian music and took the first album that come out and put it right in the book...

This album is so important that no one cares uploading it properly. Seriously, there's a few nice moments, like the main title, but it felt more like fragments of songs glued together than a full album.

Luckily I’ve listened to Bollywood music before so I knew what to expect

UnAble to find

It’s a fine soundtrack obviously some uhhh Indian type stuff but I’m not into the bolly

Not that keen. I don't know if it'd help to have seen the film... I think soundtracks are probably best when they remind you invoke emotions in you combined with the memory of watching the film.

B.S. de película de Bollywood. No soy fan. Un 2.

For not being in English I thought this was pretty good

Better than expected, but still not great…..2.5/5

It's just a soundtrack. Not of any interest whatsoever. Why is it on the list?

not my thing

It's not entirely fair to judge a soundtrack without knowledge of the film and its context, but I doubt any film could give much order to the smattering of tracks here. Jabs at American big band, Spanish classical, and others are mixed in with a constant undercurrent of Bollywood that just feels a little half-baked as a whole.

Ekki ég kvikmynda tónlist frá indlandi

First of all almost impossible to find and when it is found who knows what versin they are rating as a most listen album. Is there any other soundtrack albums on the list? I hope its not the only one. I have no idea why this is on the list of Must Hear albums. I don't hate the music though. 2 stars.

2/5 not my cup of tea

A best friend (to protect her identity, we will omit her name) has been sending me Bollywood tracks for probably a decade and a half at this point, so I have developed a very subjective, certain taste and idea in my mind for what I consider "good Bollywood music". I am sad to say that this really wasn't it. However, considering this album is from the 1970s, it was fun to hear some influences from the height of funk and disco era on here. Lots of Spanish influence, too! Ultimately, this just wasn't for me.

First time of listening, a bit like Fusion food this. good in parts, can't see why this is in the list really. Highlight for me was "One Two Cha Cha" but a bit disappointing really.

Not that in to Bollywood 2.5/5

Spreekt me niet echt aan, heb indische muziek nooit lekker luisterbaar gevonden

Interesting. Got better as the day went on.

Tjo, indische Filmmusik halt. Mal jazzig, mal traditionell, mal ne schlechte Kopie westlicher Filmmusik, meistens langweilig. Eher 2.

A solid 2 for its whimsical nature

I listened to it. I'm not sure what else to say. Is this a notable soundtrack for world music?

It's a shame this is so difficult to track down in its entirety. The few songs I picked were interesting, almost James Bond-movie instrumentation. I think it suffers a bit from being a soundtrack album, especially if you don't speak Hindi, as you know it's telling a story, you just don't know what it is.

Track 01 - 2.25/5 Track 02 - 2.25/5 Track 03 - 2/5 Track 04 - 2.25/5 Track 05 - 2/5 Track 06 - 1.75/5 Track 07 - 2.5/5 Track 08 - 2.25/5 Track 09 - 2/5 Track 10 - 2/5 Overall: 2.25/5 Album Art: 3.5/5

Kuuntelin levyn "hittibiisin" one two cha cha cha ja sehän riitti.

horrible

🙂‍↔️

Not sure I *needed* to hear this before I die. 1/5

Why is this on the list. This is just not good from any perspective.

This sucked. I don’t think any soundtrack should be on here but def not one that I slept through 1/4 of. Super bland.

Oh dear.

Oh dear. This was awful.

und wieso müsste man das gehört haben?

Thanks I hate it

Not really sure how this is on this list. It's a movie soundtrack with some pretty generic music.

5/7 Piece of shit

One Two Cha Cha Cha.....That's the way, aha aha, i like it...ja dàààg.

Pajeet

Nee, keine Chance!

How I wish this was Shalamar instead. And whilst I was certainly not expecting anything to the level of The Second Time Around, I Can Make You Feel Good or Take That To The Bank I wasn’t expecting seriously cheesy 70s TV cop show themes and cha cha cha music either. There was quite a bit of stale curry house BG music that I was expecting as well. I hope this cha-cha-cha’s its way off the next edition of 1001 albums.

Jesus Christ, why the fuck is this on the list?

The music is good but how am I suppose to like a soundtrack of a movie that I've never watched before??

I couldn't even finish this

Braucht niemand

Sorry, not my style

not for me

I could actually see how people would like this but not me

its not bad just not for me

Nothing about this feels right. This is like the Indian ripoff of the Shaft soundtrack. Or like an early 70s Bond movie score. It's worse than both of those. Five minutes of One Two Cha Cha Cha is five minutes too many. Annnnnd....some movie dialogue. This thing is pushing all the wrong buttons. I don't understand how this made the list. Countess' Caper now sounds more like a classic 30s/40s adventure film score. They just added an Indian touch to every style of Western soundtrack from the dawn of sound in films. This cannot be the best Bollywood soundtrack of all time. Romantic Theme sounds more like Creepy Theme.

Some of the songs are upbeat but just not my cup of tea

Pick a genre and throw it in. There's even a bit of Spaghetti Western! Surely there is an Indian artist that demonstrates this culture better than a film soundtrack.

A poor soundtrack for a minor film, I don't think this is a good representation of 'albums' from India

I understand the artistic approach and did not hate this album but it becomes repetitive and not enjoyable.

Way too easy listening for me. If we're gonna go Hindi I either want the real thing traditional or something modern bollywood

Gimme a break, no body outside of India listens to this. Why is this on the list? That was torment.

I think this is the part of the list where the brother got bored and was just reaching for shit go add… But I’ll be nice and just say that it wasn’t for me.

I see the "sound of the 70's" pervaded all the way to Bollywood. Oh good gracious, this is unintentionally hilarious. Is this a test to see if we listen, because this feels like a joke that has been played on me or more likely I am not the target audience of this soundtrack.

Can’t tell you how much I did not like this one

Interesting and not bad.

Can't find on Spotify.

How does a 48-year-old Bollywood soundtrack be selected as one of the '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' lists? I'm pretty new to Bollywood music, but if this is supposed to be one of the highlights, I really hope I never stumble across the low points. Honestly, I just didn't enjoy the album at all.

Absolutely not

Not a Bollywood fan

I listen to the first few track then questioned why!

Hum Bewafaa Hargiz Na The (I) - 3/10: I just didn't really like it. Hum Bewafaa Hargiz Na The (II) - 3/10: The beat is okay. Aaina Wohi Rehta Hai - 2/10: I didn't really like it. Mera Pyaar Shalimar - 3/10: The beat is okay. Naag Devta - 1/10: I didn't like it. One Two Cha Cha - 2/10: Same as the last one. Overall Score: 13/60 Overall Rating: 1/10 - There's not a single song that I really enjoyed and I won't be listening again. Just not for me.

While interesting, also annoying. For example, The woman’s voice on the sixth song was beautiful, then the lousy 1978 music started and killed the moment.

Horrible

Soundtracks should not be on the list.

There’s good Indian music. This isn’t it.

One two cha cha cha 💃

I understand that this list has to be a "worldwide" list, but here's a partial list of artists with 150m+ records sold who are nowhere to be found on this list: Garth Brooks Phil Collins (solo) Drake Celine Dion Ed Sheeran And we get this shit, instead? Just listen to One Two Cha Cha Cha and it gives you all you need to hear about this album, which shouldn't be near this list.

Cultural Ethnocentrism is the belief that one's own culture is the standard by which all others should be judged, often leading to viewing other cultures as inferior, strange, or wrong. It manifests as judging others through one's cultural lens, causing prejudice, discrimination, misunderstanding, and reinforcing power imbalances. Example: Take a flop of a Bollywood movie, but since it’s one of the only ones that they put Western actors in, treat it like a masterpiece and put the soundtrack on a list of 1000 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Never mind that the music sucks and the kitschy collection of styles is overblown and demonstrative. This is a ridiculous album, a pandering attempt at diversity and a pointless inclusion to this list. It’s not great, Dan.

Whoa... the first track made me feel like I was on a bad acid trip. Skimmed the rest of it, don't really get it. I don't fuck with this

no me gustó

It is kinda fun but wouldnt listen again

I hesitated to give 1 star to this album because style wise it's out there, far from the dozens of britpop albums. But also, I have no interest in a Bollywood movie OST.

I was optimistic, but this is a bridge too far for me.

This was a sonic nightmare

Alright but idk indian so just sounded like poorly recorded old indian music

Awful.

Guess I am not the target audience for this one 😐

Interesting and dull at the same time. Maybe it was interesting how dull it was.

40 straight minutes of boring jeetslop. Do not redeem.

not for me, tough to rate

This is exactly what I would expect from a Bollywood movie with Rex Harrison in it. I can’t think of a reason why it would be on this list, apart from we’re all different.

Okay, but not really my thing. One Two Cha Cha Cha is an ear worm.

After listening to this I can safely say that Bollywood music is not for me.

More like Badllywood.

Album not on Spotify

This is #day374 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I was trying to approach this as open-minded as possible, but I failed eventually. Track #5 was the last drop. I mean, a Bollywood movie soundtrack? I was aiming for at least a 2, but I just couldn't, I'm sorry. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day375.

Can't stream it. Gay.

I’m at a complete loss as to why this album makes this list. Not only the inclusion of a movie soundtrack questionable but the quality of the music is so bad it is contemptuous to most of the other artists on the rest of the list. It reminds me of the kiddies cassettes I bought my son as a singalong. If anyone knows The Wiggles you’ll get my drift. Thing is The Wiggles did have degree of talent unlike anything on this album. I accept that this may be a tick box exercise and a nod to the Wokerati to include some Indian music on the list. But then again why when Ravi Shankar is already included? It is a crime that a maestro like Ravi shares this list with dross like this. But I have said that about other included albums but this one is definitely at the bottom of a shitty barrel. 1/5 12/8/25

Even the Cha Cha Cha couldn’t save this from obvious defeat.

And here I was thinking that Yugoslavian music sounded dated...

Not even in English.

I just can't listen to this, too boring

This is schlocky and awful. 70s drivel. Some redeeming qualities, but overall unlistenable.

Generic soundtrack, didn’t get it.

334/1001 🌕🌗🌑🌑🌑

Not for me

Why did I have to listen to that?

I think movie soundtracks should automatically be disqualified. Was this really an album I had to hear before I died?

This would be a perfectly acceptable soundtrack to wolfing down a lamb bhuna and a couple of Cobras in the Shabab. However, a place in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die is probably a step too far.

After listening to this I'm not going to seek out the film. A very underwhelming and totally forgettable album Unsure why this made the list

If I could zero….

That’s not the way I ah ha ah ha I like it.

Bro what is this 😭

Really expected more from a Bollywood soundtrack. Just kinda boring background noise.

Not necessary to listen to ever.

Har ingen referenceramme for den her slags musik så jeg ved ikke om det her var "god Bollywood", men det var Not For Me!

Feels like a weird collection of Bollywood tries to do western music, mixed with some medley.. Won't be revisiting any time soon 😳

Brutes mcgoots

You’re kidding, right?

No thanks

No idea why this is on an albums to hear before you die list.

Did I just do mushrooms?

really?

Yeaahhh, nah. Next!

really not my kind of music

Incredibly difficult listen.

why would i care for this

Super Meh

My wife is from India and loves Bollywood movies. Over the years I have seen many of these to be cheesy in the worst possible I also find the music, including this soundtrack, to be formulaic and a very difficult listen. Hard pass.

This wasn't the body popping experience I was expecting.

WTF... this list...

Did not enjoy.

I not all that into this kind of music. I enjoyed some of Daler Mehndi’s crazy songs back in the late 90’s, but I’m not young and drunk all the time anymore, so I never put on music from India

What in the world? Hope there aren't any more movie soundtracks in here...

Meh, this feels a bit whitewashed

I had never heard this before, I admire the musicianship but unfortunately it's really not my thing.

Finding this album was tough. When I found it would it be worth the listen??? The first track was awful and really hard to listen too. I am not sure why and how movie soundtracks make this list. It didnt make me want to watch the movie. Favourite song: If I had to pick one it would be one two cha cha cha. At a push. I wouldnt mind never hearing it again. Least favourite: Title music Album artwork: Movie poster.

Can't say I knew what was going on here, this was not for me

Terrible. Not for me

not a fan, didn't enjoy it at all

Annoying

Wanted to skip almost every song on this album. Maybe if you had the context for the music along with the film itself, it'd be better. But it's a style of music I'm not inclined to like to start and trying to listen to it with no context just was a miserable experience.
