Reviews (page 5 of 8)

Decent music, did not inspire me, but did not annoy me.

Best Song: Someone Else's Song. This has a nice, Johnny Cash quality to it. Sparse yet thoughtful. Worst Song: Sunken Treasure. What a cacophonous and ugly outro. Overall: A relatively ordinary album that's overly long. I liked some of their more creative songs, but too many just floated in this vague, uninteresting middle-space between country and alt-rock.

Not the greatest Wilco record but not bad at all.

Solid album by a band having an identity crisis. Are they rock? Grunge? Folk? Country? Yes.

I would have rated it higher if it wasn’t so long. The lyrics still hit me pretty hard. 7/10

tidy rock record, but long but i liked some tracks

3 Stars (8/15)

Ég bjóst við einhverju allt öðru og það skemmdi kannski upplifunina en mér fannst söngurinn ekki passa eins og það væri verið að rembast of mikið við að búa til eitthvað meistaraverk sem það varð ekki. Gleymist fljótt en ég gef samt þrjár því þetta var ekki slæmt.

75+ minutes of mid

Definitely a cool vibe and fitting a certain nostalgia/ melancholy mood. I didn’t realize going in that it was a double album. What starts out as a cool vibe, just ends up dragging by the end.

Not for me

The other Wilco stuff I’ve heard has grown on me, I imagine this one might as well. For now, first listen it’s a solid 3+ stars, but not enough to round up.

Some decent stuff on here. Probably worth a relisten, but not anytime soon.

A double album.... unfortunately only managed a couple of listens through (and it probably needs a few more). Enjoyed it - but nothing really jumped out and grabbed me but equally nothing repelled me. So I guess that makes it a solid 3. If it was not so long and I had more time to listen a few more times it may have crept up to a 4 as enjoyed the sound.

Better than expected. Not just bog-standard American 90s rock. Some nuance and different styles. Not bad.

p781. 1996. 3 stars. Alt-country rock. It's a double album, so one point immediately deducted for outstaying its welcome. Bit of a shame really, as there are some great songs on here. A bit of judicious editing and this could easily be a 4.

Life is like a box of genres; you never know what you're gonna get. The album overstayed its welcome, but if nothing else, it was a mixture of Alternative Rock, Country, and Punk Rock. Favorite Track: "Dreamer In My Dreams".

I like Wilco enough but they are pretty pedestrian

I like Wilco as much as the next guy but a double album.... that's a lot of the same. Despite this, it was still decent. Solid 3.

I like what I hear on this album. Although I've only listened to half of it, I've enjoyed the variety of styles across the tracks. A pleasant change after yesterday's monotony.

A bit too 'guitar, drums and bass' for my taste I think. Enjoyed the folkier numbers.

A couple songs from disc2 were pretty good. But mostly just fine. Nothing more, nothing less

Not bad

Good decent straight forward 90’s garage rock. Not exception, but solid.

Long americana, alt-rock, country record that has its moments. Monday, outtasite, hotel arizona and kingpin stuck with me. But given its length it lacks more highlights like this. For my taste it would have been better to make one album out of this material by cutting a few tracks and not a double lp. Solid record tho that could be a nice roadtrip soundtrack.

Jangly, Country noise crossed with alt rock sensibilities.

Widermal klassische "Das Album het mich uf keinere wiis gstört und au ned bsunders abgholt" 3 Gitarre Siite Zupft.

I actually owned this album as a teen. It's good, but it’s long. Trim it to one disc and it might’ve been better. As is, it’s a strong, sprawling, slightly exhausting ride. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Monday - Outtasite (Outta Mind) - Forget the Flowers

Honestly, this is pretty crazy, and a little all over the place, musically. They do a really good job of not letting it get really out of hand. I don't think that they really have a solid identity, though, and to me, their best sounding songs are the ones that lean towards the alt/indie sound and away from the more country influenced sounds. I am a slut for steel guitar though. They are clearly influential, a lot of music across all of the genres they touch on pull from some of the sounds of this album. Which is pretty incredible and almost certainly why this is on this list. As a listener, though, I don't know who they influenced with this album just from listening to it. So, in that regard, this is just a fine album. The wide range of styles hurts it just as much as it helps it, in this case. And without any songs that feel like bonafide hits, the songs that aren't as good seem to stand out a bit more. Favorite Song(s): Sunken Treasure, Someone Else's Song, The Lonely 1

This was fine. Pleasant enough but entirely forgettable. I can’t remember a single song or refrain that I just listened to

Too long, didn’t connect. 2.5 rounding up

Beast of an album with how many tracks there are on this guy! Genuine "liked it" rating, would probably fit within the 3.5 star rating scale comfortably as well. The vocals do a considerable amount of the legwork on this album in my opinion. On the folksier side, they're comforting rather than grating as other contemporaries can be. On the alternative side, it meshes just as well as any other band of its time. This isn't my bread and butter for music I'd usually listen to, but I could see myself coming back, pulling a couple tracks into a few playlists, and rating this a 4 on another listen.

This was an interesting listen and I did enjoy it, but I guess the Americana genre really isn't my favorite. I did find that a lot of songs reminded me strongly of Cracker (of which I've heard (and liked) a lot), to the point where I even looked up whether Wilco and Cracker shared any members over the years (they didn't), so that was cool. All told, it was a lot of music that kinda had the same "feel" to it, and after a while I kinda got tired of it. Three stars.

varies unexpectedly sort of but i liked it overall. good background music

Didn’t listen as close as I could have but this was good. Bonus points for making this album in 1996, 3.5

no esta mal pero es country

= the Beatles

Plus rock classique que je ne m’y attendais ; se prend un peu au sérieux, mais tout le monde qui était avec moi a bien aimé

This is a good album, but not my favorite from wilco. Maybe I am just not feeling it today.

Correcto

3.5 stars. Alt country with some steel guitar and mostly down-tempo. Feels close enough to rock to balance well. Standout is "Red-Eyed and Blue".

I have been listening to Wilco, FOR SEVENTY SIX MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!

этот альбом не говно, в отличии от того что уже я слушал в рамках данного списка

I'm a Wilco fan but this was a bit much for me at the moment. On the first listen there seems to be quite a few solid songs on this but its gonna require some extra pruning through. Favorite track: Someday Soon 3.5/5

This is Jeff Tweedy pouring everything out that he has. It's solid alt-country, at times overly melodramatic, with tricks and licks similar to the Rolling Stones in the early 70s. There are some interesting instrumental choices, but mostly it's good old-fashioned Americana and straightforward songwriting. I look at this more as Wilco coming into their own and showing what they've got, rather than breaking any boundaries or doing anything innovative. It's also a bit long. It's not that some songs aren't good enough for release, but I wonder if it could've been split into two records.

Rather long and not really capturing their experimentation. The opening song, "Misunderstood" has some edge to it. Not a bad album but not the one that should be on a list like this.

Easy listening, but nothing special in my opinion. Wilco does a good job of blending and bending genres

You know what? Better than the last Wilco album I got. Nowhere near as boring... But still no cohesion for me.

A bit long, but enjoyed this even more than I thought! Slap like a 3.5 on this

wilco is really easy to listen to but im not sure if they're good yet or not

First impression pre listen: An hour and 17 minutes of Wilco? That's a lot to ask. They've always struck me as a bit of a mixed bag, either hitting in some powerful places, or being extremely boring with little in between. Never been that into them as I've always viewed them as a bit of a hipster band. I'm honestly a bit intimidated by this album. Don't know if I have the patience for it. Individual track notes: Misunderstood I like the dark and intimidating noise of the intro. Don't love the subtle vocal effect. I really enjoy how it builds up with both the drums and the guitar. The vocalist's voice changes dynamically to fit the more distorted sound. Decent. 3.5/5 Far, far away Deep and layered sound. Very sweet sounding. The steel guitar adds a certain atmosphere to the track. I like the understated and casual vocal performance. Suits the lyrical themes well. Good. 4/5 Monday Dad rock adjacent guitar riff. Don't love the energy of the chorus. Cliche horns. Does nothing for me. Hate the claps. Dislike. 2/5 Outtasite (Outta Mind) Unremarkable 90s rock song. Doesn't exactly do anything wrong. Even has some sections that are pretty cool, with both the drums and the guitar creating some decent energy. However its not particularly exciting in a sea of similiar songs. Average. 2.5/5 Forget the Flowers Cute instrumental, love the country influences, great twang. Memorable lyrics. Overall sweet and nostalgic sounding. Decent. 3.5/5 Red-Eyed and Blue Has a sort of campfire energy to it at times. I like the vocal performance here. The instrumental section at the end with the whistling is pretty evocative. Fine. 3/5 I Got You (At the End of the Century) Very standard sounding rock track, sounds kinda 1970's. I get that they're going for a throwback sound, but honestly it just ends up sounding kinda average. Annoying lyrics. Alright guitar playing. Average. 2.5/5 What the World's Got in Store Got an bit of whiplash coming into this from the previous track. I appreciate the toned down more personal production in the beginning. I like how the track builds on itself with the added instrumentation. Love the organ solo. Cute evocative lyrics. Good. 4/5 Hotel Arizona A decent continuation of the sound from the album so far. Great instrumental break, really powerful. Decent. 3.5/5 Say You Miss Me There's something slightly off about the instrumental. Sounds kinda mushy. Solid chorus, I like the backing vocals. Melancholic. Decent. 3.5/5 Sunken Treasure Sparse yet emotional songwriting. The distorted and ominous sounding instrumental section really fits the pacing of the song. Honestly a bit boring outside the noisier chaotic segments. I'm sure it's pretty meaningful, but I lost patience with it after a while. Has some good ideas though. Fine. 3/5 Someday Soon Another twangy country inspired track. Has some nostalgic sounding atmosphere to it, but is otherwise sort of forgettable. Average. 2.5/5 Outta Mind (Outta Sight) A parallell to a previous song on the album. Decent idea, ties together the experience pretty well. Average. 2.5/5 Someone Else's Song Sweet simple and stripped back. Has some subtle support from a bit of sparse background instrumentation whic works really well. Enjoyable lyrics. Decent. 3.5/5 Kingpin I appreciate the very different sounding instrumental. Lacks any sort of energy. End up kind of flat and boring. Can't really think of any memorable moment. It's long and repetitive. Dislike. 2/5 (Was I) In Your Dreams Solid interplay between the piano and the guitar. Has a bit of a wayward atmosphere to it. I like the subtle chaos that hides in there. Fine. 3/5 Why Would You Want To Live Depressing and melancholic. Kinda contrasts to the twangy guitar and the violin. Oddly soothing. Fine. 3/5 The Lonely 1 Beautiful intro. Attention grabbing lyrics. Calming and spacey instrumental. I really like how it enhances the storytelling in the lyrics. Good. 4/5 Dreamer in My Dreams Don't love the rock n roll aesthetic here. His voice sounds really strained and weak. Solid violin. Cute lyrics. I appreciate that they're ending the album with a higher energy track. A bit drawn out. Fine. 3/5 Final review: What is it to say about this album other than it's... fine? Nothing here hurts to listen to, there's nothing offensive or abrasive about it. It's just for the most part solid if not a bit standard. I wouldn't call it exactly inspiring, but there are a few genuinely beautiful or intriguing moments on here that make me think "hey it's staring to click", but the enchantment is quickly dispersed and transforms into quiet contentness. Yeah, sure it's a bit long, but honestly that didn't bother me that much as it was consistently pleasant to listen to with just enough variety to keep it from being entirely boring. There's a lot of genre exploration on here that makes it at least a tiny bit unpredictable. The genre switches are done gracefully without losing sight on the goal, upholding the quality of the song. It never feels like they're forcing an idea into a genre, writing in such a way that it sounds natural. This is mostly what keeps the album from being a snoozefest. Which along with the at times thoughtful, enjoyable and thematic lyrics had me interested enough to wonder what the next song would be like. Would definitely be something I'd need to listen to again, should I want to grasp it completely. As I'd probably enjoy it more if I had a broader understanding of the lyrics. However I struggle to see when I'd have the patience to do a full relisten of this. For a first listen it's again, just fine. 3/5

I want to smack the shit out of 2023 me for giving Yankee Hotel Foxtrot a 3. This is not quite as excellent as that one is and I would say this is a little more straightforward. It’s also very long, but it’s also enjoyable in the way that leaving the radio on in the background is. Favorite songs were Far, Far Away, Monday, Outtasite, Say You Miss Me, Outta Mind, and Dreamer In My Dreams.

This was a good album 3.5 wasnt as out there as some of thier other stuff i think

3/5. The songs are nice and the aesthetic is a soft rock/country one with sad and self-deprecating lyrics. The issue seems to be the length of the album, after a while it does seem to just be alterations on the same theme, with little variety in instrumentation as well. I think Jeff can have a nice voice if he wants but the lack of effort in some songs is a good choice up to a point. There is a good balance for the most part but it can get annoying, especially when you know he can sing if he wants to. The album was enjoyable but a little too long and similar throughout. Best Song: Say You Miss Me, Misunderstood, Forget The Flowers

I quite enjoyed the album. I wouldn't necessarily put it on again soon; however, it was easy listening and enjoyable in a similar way I see the Beatles and velvet underground, a bit lacking in substance but pleasant. I liked when the songs exhibited a more country feel rather than Beatles Esque, however I couldn't name any specific songs I liked without looking back through the album.

Never heard this album before. Enjoyed most of it. At other times, kind of bored with it. It was just ok.

Trevligt, men alldeles för mycket. Fin rock med toch av doula och country. En enkel-lp hade varit nog.

This is the Wilco record I think of when I think of Wilco records.

Нейтральная музыка, в своем стиле группа, но меня не особо цепляет

A lot of people complain it's long, and it's also their first exposure to Wilco. I think this is definitely an essential album for someone who wants to get into Wilco, but is it essential for the rest of us? It's pretty early in the arc of Wilco's body of work to call this their "Exile On Main Street". It's a long album, with a variety of sounds and moods, just like Exile, but I don't think it rises to that level. Maybe more Wilco's "Rubber Soul." What makes this interesting is that Tweedy is stepping away from his Neil Young And Crazy Horse comfort zone and playing more with song structures, tonal qualities beyond a fuzzed out Les Paul, and leaning more towards an outre pop music. This is thanks to the arrival of Jay Bennett, and I don't think he gets nearly enough credit. More of his pop sensibilities will be evident on Summerteeth, which I consider a more filled-out album. Essential? Well, essential for a Wilco afficionado. A worthwhile hour for others.

Quite good. Not sure I'd go wild and listen again or regularly.

first song was biffy vibes then goes into a more singersongwriter / country sound. enjoyed

он норм, но меня отвлекли пастбища позеленее

Honestly, just boring

Pre-listening thoughts: wilco more like who-co cause who is this group ha ha ha Post/during listening thoughts: This was good, but I listened to it twice and still never felt anything on it really grab my attention except for the rhyming of "alcohol/cotton ball". I wanted to like this, like I know this could be a grower if I sat down and listened to it like two more times with more attention given to it. But for now, it's a 6/10. DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Monday, I Got You Least fav tracks: I didn't dislike any of this but it was mushy

Hit and miss album for me. Wilco has better like Summerteeth and YHF

Decent, but nothing too memorable across its (overly long) runtime.

A little rough around the edges, but you can see signs of where they were headed.

It’s fine, I’ve never really been a Wilco girl and this didn’t change my mind

Started with a total dud. Misunderstood had noisy music and the singer sounded like he was just crying throughout the whole thing (which can work for some songs, but it didn't work here). I was thinking, a whole double album of this? This is going to be painful. Far Far Away was better, but only marginally. But it started to pick up from there. Monday was moving along nicely. And then Outtasite Outta Mind really broke this album loose. Forget The Flowers was a killer track, the banjos had me smiling throughout. The rest of side one was solid. Side 2 started out with Sunken Treasure, another dud. Seriously, these guys need to reorder their albums, would make it so much better. But then Someday Soon brought it right back up with more fun banjo. Someone Else's Song had slightly Dylan-esque vibes. They obviously don't have the vocal skills of Bob Dylan, but this was a good song in his style. And then came Kingpin. Wow, I had such a blast with this one, the country sound was pure fun. The rest of the album rocked along nicely. Dreamer In My Dreams was a good ending, with some fun harmonica. Wilco should have really been a country band, their country is much better than their rock. With a few of the songs cut, this could easily have been a 4. Best song: Kingpin

You know this was a perfectly nice album. I preferred the first half, which was a bit more upbeat and had me tapping along with it a lot more. The second half felt more sombre, and was less engaging, but still fine enough. Overall it was quite easy going. 3.5 rounded down.

Pleasant enough. Nothing stands out.

Another Wilco album, the second one, that sounds like most Uncle Tupelo albums.

Previously rated: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2/5) ******************************* Better than YTF. Starts slow, has some country sounding tunes. Still kind of generic. They saved their best until the last track which sounds like an old Rod Stewart song.

An important Wilco and 90s record. I'm more of a basic Wilco fan (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, etc.) again, always intrigued by the records right before the mainstream breakthrough.

I liked it more than the last Wilco album. But it was a bit long of the same stuff.

Rock, 1996 -> 3

Perfect!

I don’t see a good reason for this being a double album, but there are some good moments scattered thorough

I've heard some good things about Wilco and this was a good introduction, some pretty good songs and also some very emotional parts, I'll check out their other stuff later on I didn't mind this. I really like the songs Kingpin and Monday

I would probably rate this higher after a couple listens. 3.31

This album was indeed there

Good. Far from great. I might consider giving their albums Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or Summerteeth four stars, but not this one.

What's with these mid mid-90s alt/indie albums with a proclivity for going long lately? I had The Verve's Urban Hymns the other day and that too suffered from way too much length, these guys need better producers and editors to make them cut this shit down, not everything needs to fill every second on a.CD, and it definitely doesn't need to be a double album. I mean, if you have multiple 6:00+ songs on your album, the problem isn't the listeners attention span, the problem is you Jeff Tweedy, it's you...

Like their other album “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” I feel like I should have enjoyed this more than I did. Seemed much too long, some songs I even hated. But there were other points throughout where I thought to myself that maybe I am not giving this a fair enough chance… 2.5/5 for today

This was great but should've been like 30 minutes shorter

Wilco ooh Wilco...good songs, good voice, good musicians and still it doesn't crawl under my skin...

Like not like is the way I feel about Wilco. Tweedy is talented, no doubt but something about him bugs me. This was a good beginning for a band that seems a bit overrated to me.

I'm not a huge Wilco aficionado, but I own at least one album by them (not this one) and usually enjoy both them and Uncle Tupelo when I hear them. Thankfully this holds true for this album too, although I was kind of hoping to enjoy more tracks on the too long album than I did. "Misunderstood" starts off the album really (really) strongly, but Tweedy and company struggle to sustain the mood or tone through much of the first disc, sadly; I was really glad that "Red eyed and blue" followed "Forget the flowers", as the latter kind of made me despair for the remainder of the album. It was nice that the second disc really picked up with "Outta sight" through "Kingpin". Overall it feels like Tweedy and Wilco were still exploring directions with this album, and didn't quite find the way by the end. Fine but not great.

At some point I decided I wasn't listening to enough "new" music and ended up buying this album, which I did/do sort of enjoy. Tweedy's songwriting is good but could be great if he could just get out of his groove a bit. I would have loved this album if it had just been disc one.

I was only really cursorily familiar with Wilco coming into this album. The most I had heard about them was from my girlfriend and from friends here and there. What followed was a decently pleasant to listen to country/indie/folk album with some standout songs here and there. I think a knock against the album would be that it's entirely too long. At 19 tracks it starts to outstay it's welcome a little bit towards the latter half of the record. Despite that though, I found a few songs I would not mind returning to every now and then. Like with some of the albums I've been recommended from 1001AlbumsGenerator, I have a feeling I would like some of their later, more mature, releases better than this one. Although, this one is a solid listen for the most part. Standout tracks are: "Hotel Arizona" and "Kingpin".

I liked the vibes of this album and I’m a sucker for some good banjo. There weren’t any songs that jumped out at me in particular, but I would listen again. 3.5 stars.

honestly I liked this but was really not in the mood for it.

I listened till mid of the disc 2. It´s a cool album. Although it´s not my personal favorite. There´s a bit of country here and there. It´s not remarkable to me

Country feel

Country, twangy rock vibe

Wilco is ok, it's chill, listenable folk/rock. I preferred their stuff with Billy Bragg. This album went on for a bit too long.

First pre-YHF album of Wilco's I've listened to. It's solid. Wilco is one of those bands that I think is very solid but I don't listen to often.

Nice enough, but the songs don't grab me.

Given my opinions on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, I was not looking forward to this record. For the most part, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a Wilco that is more stripped down, more willing to experiment, and feels more genuine. This is the Wilco that I imagine music critics bow to. That said, the double album is a tough trick to pull off. As usual, there's a full album's worth of very good to excellent songs; "Sunken Treasure", "Someone Else's Song", and "Kingpin" are among my favorites, and often remind me of the band, Sparklehorse, who Wilco likely inspired. Other songs are just bland as can be, regardless of genre. Given the album's runtime, there are too many boring songs to make this worthy of that much praise.

solid. probably 3.50-3.75 could i write poetry to this? n

Not Wilco's best, but there is some damn good song craft here

Great but not my favorite Wilco.

When Wilco is good, they are really fucking good, but it’s rare relative to the 19 fucking songs in Being There. The blaring guitar and keyboard on the opener Misunderstood is the highlight. It only really returns on Hotel Arizona. Tweedy however does write some fantastic folk pop songs like Outta Mind and Lonely 1. There is a lot going on with Wilco, country, alt, folk, indie. It’s mostly very good. But as usual with double albums, it’s too damn long 7.8/10

This is a good, but not great Wilco album, while also still being a fun listen. I love Monday and think it’s an all time Tweedy banger, but this album is mostly a good listen to hear the band first kind of finding themselves before later perfecting it. It’s still my favorite of their early records but totally get it if it isn’t someone’s thing at all.

Considering Wilco’s masterpiece is also on this list, I was curious to see this album here. It’s a fine slice of mid-90s alt-country, along with some of the wild weird stylings the band would go to construct later. But unfortunately this is a double album that’s really only an album and a half. By the 4th side, it’s worn out its welcome and lost the plot. In fact the whole album is a slow run of diminishing returns; “Misunderstood” is an absolute classic, but by 45 minutes you’re starting to wonder when they’re gonna a go ahead and wrap it up. It’s a fine album, some great songs in the mix, but sometimes you really really need an edit.

far from my favorite wilco but there are plenty of great ideas. not amazing for a 1h17m album when the first song clears everything else, but i can disable the part of my brain that is annoyed by corny indie rock tropes when wilco does it

Has a vintage sound to it through different music styles, but none of which resonated with me. 6/10

Wilco are never bad. Bit too long, not much that really grabbed me, but a solid and pleasant listen.

I kind of enjoyed this, but the album was very long and the songs all sounded similar.

Decent but lacks the really gripping songs that I love from YHF.

The beginning of the album was very interesting. Unfortunately, the tension could not be maintained over the long playing time of over an hour. Overall, the album was interesting and enjoyable, but left a somewhat boring impression. 3/5

It’s just ok.

Standard alternative album, I think others did it better, but I appreciate how cross-genre it tried to be. Really fucking long and boring though. 3*

Quite good, relaxing - nearly 4.

If you present an album of 1.16hrs you'd better make darn sure it's good enough or at least interesting. But there is quite a bit here that's underwhelming. I dont think it anywhere near the quality of Mermaid Avenue nor Yankee Hotel. Had it been pared back, a very decent album would emerge. On the strength of the more folk-inspired numbers it gets a three.

It’s well produced, well written and well played, but it’s nothing special. And it’s way too long. Edit. Disc 2 is horribly boring and almost drags it down one star

Overall really good and enjoyable. 3+

This band can have a Coldplay sound in one song and a Traveling Wilburys sound in the next. I listened to the 2 album version not the 4 album version my streaming service offered. So many people talking about how long the album is, probably listened to the later.

I would qualify this album as fine but long. It's a bit like spreading a tiny amount of jam on a large piece of bread ! Better using less bread

I liked the vibes of this album and I’m a sucker for some good banjo. There weren’t any songs that jumped out at me in particular, but I would listen again. 3.5 stars.

um pouco longo demais mas eu gosto do meu mano wilco.

Solid album.

1996. Country rock. 7,5/10 Hotel Arizona / Someday soon / Kingpin

Nice album, but definitely too long, there's so much repetition in there. I feel like I've heard at least three versions of the same song while listening to this. Otherwise - pretty good. 3.5 stars

Solid Wilco album, some really great tracks. Nice indie history here, but not my favorite by Wilco.

I sort of have a soft spot for Wilco and I'm not really sure why. My sister and brother-in-law are big Wilco fans, maybe that's why? But I liked this album well enough. It wasn't something I think I would choose to play again but if it came on, I probably wouldn't change it. At least for a while. It’s the kind of record where if you have to get up and do something while it's playing, you don't feel like you're going to miss anything important. It is a bit long but it's good music, though not exactly my style. 3/5

I saw it was Wilco and thought, “I bet this will be a three star album”. You can count on them to give you some straightforward earnest music. Always pleasant, uncomplicated, never awe-inspiring. They’re Wilco, they’re fine.

A chill standard 90s alt rock band

I thought this was okay. I think Wilco are great musicians and have some lovely blues but generally I find their stuff a little wet. It never quite hits the mark for me.

Didn’t like all the songs and I don’t think I’ll listen to the entire album again especially being a double disc. But some tracks were quite good. I enjoyed “Monday”, especially after the sombre and too country “Far, Far Away” which was not to my taste. You can hear the country in most of their songs. It’s a decently put together album but the 2nd disc is a bit unnecessary with nothing significant to carry it. Have to give it a 3 for that.

A nice rock album of easy listening songs. At times it has an Eagles vibe at others something more contemporary. What holds back the album is the incredibly long run time that includes more forgettable songs.

This album is decent but no where near the genius of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or the greatness of Sky Blue Sky or Summerteeth. Those albums are all fantastic and belong on this list more than this one

I remembered the name of the band but couldn't recall any of their songs. After listening I can see why. This is competent but uninspiring, which is an odd thing considering the array of musical styles played with.

just some good ol’ alt country from one of the best bands to do it. a quality listening experience.

This one isn't bad - I hope there are other Wilco albums on here (Ghost is Born, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, or Sky Blue Sky). Not their best but has some great gems. 3/5

Perfectly fine light rock in this offering. Personally I thought the music and lyrics were from the shallow end of the intellect pool, but why did it need to be anything more?

Very, very, very long album. There's some really great tracks here, but the remaining hour is just a bit much.

It's fine, but nothing Wilco or Son Volt has ever done has been as good as Uncle Tupelo.

After listening to this, I now get a lot of things about Wilco, their fan base, and their records.

Not bad

I wasn't feeling some of the songs, but overall it was quite decent.

This one got off to a rough start but righted the ship and ended up being a solid album the rest of the way through. Kind of country/southern rock vibes. Favorites: Far, Far Away, Forget the Flowers, Someday Soon, Was I In Your Dreams, Dreamer in My Dreams Least Favorites: Misunderstood

3.4 2x cool 2 disc album, but nothing i will likely come back to anytime soon

listened to again it's great in places but too long and terribly inconsistent

This is very good - and I get Pavement, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and other nice vibes from this. I wish, though, that I only had to listen just one of the discs in this project - 1 h. 17 m. is way too long. But actually, I can’t decide which disc I like the most. It might be disc 2

Wilco is a band I haven’t heard about for many years, and I never listened to any of their albums. This one is a double album, a collection of blues, country, rock, ballads, and hard rock. Overall it was good. It did seem to drag slightly in the middle.

(Eek I'm so behind!!!) When I hear "Wilco", I think of the webcomic Questionable Content. I feel like that dude was obsessed with them, which made me think "this is likely not a band for me". My read was accurate. The name Jeff Tweedy (=the singer) is perfect for what this music sounds like. This is the rare band where I like the (instrumental) music much better than I like the vocals. Highlights: 'Monday' had good energy. I like that there is an 'Outta Sight' / 'Outta Mind' pair because it made me think "wait, I heard this one already". The strings in 'The Lonely 1' are pretty. Spoon: 'Why Would you Wanna Live' sounds like Spoon's 'The Way We Get By' at first, and Spoon would be a more enjoyable quirky 5-letter band for this list than Wilco. I guess they're fine though.

Classic mellow Wilco if you're in the mood.

Gostei desse country, me lembrou um pouco The Beatles. Algumas músicas que me chamaram atenção: Monday, Hotel Arizona, Someday Soon, (Was I) In Your Dreams. Mas não é um tipo de música que eu ouviria mais vezes. Talvez com um clima cozy.

I liked it more than I thought. A little slow but interesting

Wilco are now considered one of the classic Dad Rock bands. I like it though, but I'm a classic Dad. Country but not really country - indie roots shine through. Plenty of variety and nice tunes. Thumbs up from me.

Двойной альбом, который мог бы быть охуенным обычным альбомом на 8 бомбических песен. Лучшая песня - Someone Else's Song.

This album isn’t bad or terrible, but it falls squarely into the category of basic, simple, and middle-of-the-road. I owned it years ago, and even then, it never left a lasting impression. Revisiting it now, my feelings haven’t changed. It’s the kind of music that’s perfect for background noise while taking a nap or washing the dishes. It serves its purpose, but it doesn’t stand out or demand attention.

Pleasant. Boring. Samey.

73% Best: Misunderstood; Monday; Outtasite (Outta Mind); I Got You (At the End of the Century); Hotel Arizona; Kingpin; Dreamer in My Dreams Must-Hear? 1st disc had a lot of promise, but the 2nd disc was totally unnecessary

melodies are catchy and sweet, but it's otherwise a bit dull. I enjoyed it.

The switch up between song 18 and 19 really was something!

Quite nice

Sone good songs but in total not my style.

A fine enough album, I don't know why they had to go for the double though, there's certainly not enough variety here to justify it. I'm interested to hear more of their work as I'm lead to believe they shift styles somewhat, but I'm not going to relisten to this one quickly.

Yeah this is pretty good.

It was ok, but far too long. Roger, wilco.

Interesting mix of indie, folk, and a touch o' country. Reminiscent of Beck. I liked the variety of the music a good deal. I think I heard some organ and maybe a harpsichord? High 3 here! I think it was not quite good enough for how long it was to warrant a 4, but I did consider it.

This album was a lot of genres which gave it some good variety with the indie, country, and alternative. All of it was pretty standard to me. Was a good listen but I would not search out more Wilco

Indifferent.

Beautifully written and some pretty good musicianship.

The songs are well-written, well-performed, and well-produced but they just did not hit me at all. I can see why people love it, but it just isn't for me.

Not their best - but it's decent. Prefer Summerteeth or Sky Blue Sky

Reminds me of The Replacements

It's a fun album I enjoyed listening to it

It wasn’t unpleasant but it wasn’t inspiring

This was a very nondescript album, when I first started listening to it I was like eh I don't think I'll listen to all of it it's a bit long and then before I knew it I was at the end. So good to work to I guess? But not very inspiring

Each song was solid and enjoyable

I quite liked this. It's just good roots rock, pretty basic but gets the job done. It's a little long, but comes in kind of just below the length where it would be real slog to finish it. Wilco has kind of a weird side that keeps it interesting throughout. I'd put this on again.

Not bad, but not for me. I could see how people would enjoy this. Overall I found this to be average.

Wilco is one of those bands I used to hear about all the time growing up. They were hailed as some sort of indie rock gods, but I never got around to listening to them. After hearing this album I don't really get the hype. Maybe their later stuff is better, but I'm not sure what's so special about this one. It's a mix of pretty run-of-the-mill alt country and generic alternative (think somewhere between Ryan Adams and Oasis). The first track, "Misunderstood" was pretty cool, and there are a handful of decent songs on here — mostly the rock ones. The country ones I could do without. But there's really nothing special about this album. This wouldn't stand out in a sea of generic 90s rock bands, and they often sound like they're trying to be other bands — "Monday" is essentially a Rolling Stones song. "Outtasite (Outta Mind)" almost sounds like something the fake band The Oneders would have sung in That Thing You Do. Lyrically, the songs all pretty much cover the same topic — a guy is sad over his lost love and is having trouble moving on. Like, every song. And there are 19 of them. That's way too many songs. Maybe if this album had been pared down to the best tracks, there might be 8-9 songs to make a decent album here. But as long as it is, and with the weird bouncing back and forth between rock and country, it got really tedious to slog through. By the time I got to "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)," I perked up for a second because I thought I was about to hear the Sesame Street theme song. Seriously, it's the exact same chords. I was almost angry it wasn't, because it would have been a refreshing change from the same boring subject. I'll let Jeff Tweedy's own lyrics sum up my thoughts on this album: I keep on singing Your eyes they just roll It sounds like someone else's song From a long time ago 3/5

Lots of great songs on here and some awesome guitar playing but I think this album is way too bloated. A lot of songs just pass by me without a thought. Would be a 5 star single album for sure, decent double though

Album got pretty interesting by the end of it. Might have to put this one on my "listen to it again" list.

Decent but forgettable indie-ish country rock

Sounds like the Kinks, without the melody.

I’ve been meaning to listen to another album by Wilco ever since I discovered their 2002 album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which I absolutely love. So I had high hopes for this. Safe to say it didn’t live up to my expectations, sounded like YHF in parts but a lot simpler and even more of an alt-country sound, which can get tiring. It also did not need to be 80 mins long. Without comparing to YHF though, it was a fun album with a good mix of slow and fast pacing and loud and quiet within songs. Highlights: Misunderstood Hotel Arizona Sunken Treasure

some bangers, but some clangera

Never could really immerse myself in Wilco, but I do find it enjoyable. It doesn’t really fill a niche that I’m absent of. It is rocking, has great lyrics, and jumps into the indie folk routine quite well. It just doesn’t quite scratch the itch.

The only other Wilco song I know is Jesus, Inc., which I like. This album was different than that song, but still enjoyable and something I'll give another listen to.

I liked this one more than the more recent (2004?, the one with a white egg on white background) Wilco album I was more familiar with. This band has always been a bit outside what I want to listen to at any given moment, but they are starting to grow on me more and more. I'll go back to this one again.

3/5 decent music not my style but still enjoyed it. not bad :)

It’s a nce album but if they had picked the best songs and kept it single they could really have had something. As it is there’s too much drift.

Very enjoyable

As someone from Illinois it is surprising I didn't catch much local buzz from them. Granted I didn't live there 10 years before or after this album came out, so there's that. This being a double album ended up clogging up my 1001 list for quite a while. Had a lot of things going on and didn't get to my normal listening times. But it was still a good listen. Lots of variety to where I wouldn't necessarily know I'm listening to the same artist all week. There were traditional indie elements I've heard in Death Cab, then other sprinkles of several others such as Radiohead, the Flaming Lips, rod Stewart, and then even some country flair as well. However, not many tracks caught my attention. I do think the consistency and agreeableness of the record is a net positive. Nearly 20 tracks without a skip. But I really need to come back and focus a bit more to really dig in and build an appreciation to see if there is anything special here. Good album, deserves a second listen for sure. Favorite track "Dreamer in my Dreams" 3.3/5

This is trying really hard to be something - but unfortunately that something isn't particularly enjoyable or memorable.

Not being familiar with this band, I was quite looking forward to this album. Indeed, I rather liked the opening track, but as the album proceeded I was less and less enthused. I dislike country music and any such influences, and this was rolling in them. And it went on rather too long, being a double album. Rather average, I thought, but I guess that reflects my taste.

A pleasurable album, but not really my thing. The singer seemed to spend a lot of time around and over his vocal range. I always thought Wilco was one person, like Nico, who popped up walking on other people's records... Huh.

Mellow. Relaxing. Some good songs. Nothing great though.

Hyvä folkahtava rokkilevy. Ei sellainen genre jota rakastan mutta hyvin menee taustalla. 3/5

Not for me, not a bad album, just not my thing.

It was alright, but didn't speak to me

For ages I had Wilco and Wilko Johnson confused, and wondered why so many Americans were excited about a legendary pub rock guitarist from Canvey Island. Today I found out that they are actually an amiable alt-rock band with country leanings and they were generous enough to put out this double album at the regular price. This didn’t set my world on fire, but it was a good way to spend an hour or so.

I loved the intro, that made me expect something else... in the end I am not so disappointed, it's a decent alt/soft rock album. A bit too long though, and a few songs are a bit too cheesy to my taste.

Too long. Not bad, tho. I just got a bit bored. Which is a shame because there are some good tracks. They just get a bit buried in the many miles of sand, and have to be dug up like treasure. Some beautiful guitar throughout. And interesting lyrics. And maybe more listens would gain another star: I don't think a double album can be taken in all at once. But why a double album?! Favourite tracks: Forget the Flowers and The Lonely 1

Nothing really wrong with it, pleasant in the background. But also nothing that grabs your attention. Like finding $10, a good thing for sure, but whether it happened or not, whether it is in my life now or not, it makes no real difference. all too safe for my taste. Music to take out the garbage, do your taxes and mow the lawn.

I was not looking forward to this album one bit. Of all the artists I've gotten albums for already, Wilco was certainly not on the list of artists that I'd want to listen to for 76 minutes straight. I thought that their so-called magnum opus, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, was pretty good, but not great, and I definitely don't think they need three albums on here (one of which is with another artist that I don't care for, Billy Bragg). However, this album pleasantly surprised me. I mean, at least the album's 76 minutes of songs that actually stand out from one another rather than 76 minutes of pure boring garbage (I'm looking at you Haunted Dancehall). The praise I gave to YHF still applies here, but with a much longer runtime. The singing, writing, and instrumental sound are all solid. I respect alternative country for doing its own thing and not blending in with the modern corporate country that I loathe so much. Overall, I don't want to listen to this again, but I may have to revisit Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as I can clearly see that Wilco isn't a bad band at all. 3/5.

Too gentle, but good

I own this album, but I've listened to it only a handful of times. After listening to it through this time, I see both why I don't listen often, and why I return to it to try again every year or so.

nice country

Good listen

Rock, with a touch of country influence

Chill and enjoyable. 3.4.

I don’t think I “get” Wilco. It’s not like I hate anything on this record. It’s pleasant enough. I wouldn’t turn it off if someone started playing it. But nothing grabbed me either. It just felt like background music. 3/5

This was the darling band of a lot of my friends growing up. And while I agree that this is Wilco's best, the album really could've done with some culling of the lesser gods on this release.

A lot of good songs! Too long.

I don't know why I find neotraditionalist Americana to be so boring. I love all of the genres it borrows from, old country, blues, garage, folk. But I end up feeling like these bands just rotate the same three songs between them. It sounds like Exile on Main Street being played underwater, like if The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion was too depressed to roll off the couch. I've read a lot about how Jeff Tweedy is such a great song writer. Ok, but the vocals are buried under layers of haze, like they are too shy to come out to play. It sounds good, but it fails to grab my interest. Three stars

Consistently good but too long and not ever amazing.

I like Wilco but this album is a bit of a snore fest

at some point the boring starts to outweigh the good

It’s fine

I was kind of close to giving this a 2 because of its length and because it was a bit boring (I don’t really like Wilco that much in general) but I thought it picked up a bit as it went on. Still, I don’t really have anything else to say about it.

Boring

Not a bad album, just nothing stand out for me. Good musicianship and song writing. This style is a blindspot for me and I have avoided Wilco for a long time due to preconceived notions of Jeff Tweedy.

Was ok, not much stood out but wasn't bad. Easily could have been halved in length

I've had a few albums that suffer from the same this as this one does. The musicianship is great, I love the vocalist, and the songwriting is amazing. But it's just so long. If it were about half the length I could see myself giving this a 4, maybe even a 5. But it simply overstays its welcome far too much for a score that high.

Not bad

American version of Blue Rodeo (Or is Blue Rodeo the Canadian version of Wilco?!) I've always heard about this group, but never really listened before. A few songs that caught my ear: Forget The Flowers Red-Eyed and Blue Why Would You Wanna Live.

One of the Wilco albums I’m not super familiar. Can’t say I love it yet as I typically need to listen a number of times to really appreciate.

felt like there wasn't a cohesive sound on this album. a couple songs stood out.

01) Misunderstood - 7,5 02) Far, Far Away - 8,5 03) Monday - 7,5 04) Outtasite (Outta Mind) - 7,5 05) Forget the Flowers - 8,0 06) Red-Eyed and Blue - 8,0 07) I Got You (At the End of the Century) - 7,5 08) What's the World Got in Store - 7,0 09) Hotel Arizona - 7,0 10) Say You Miss Me - 7,0 11) Sunken Treasure - 7,5 12) Someday Soon - 7,0 13) Outta Mind (Outta Sight) - 7,0 14) Someone Else's Song - 6,5 15) Kingpin - 7,0 16) (Was I) In Your Dreams - 7,0 17) Why Would You Wanna Live - 7,0 18) The Lonely 1 - 7,0 19) Dreamer in My Dreams - 6,5 TOTAL: 7,26 (73/100) It's way too long. It's getting boring. The marks are getting lower and lower with each passing song. It would be 4 stars if it was just CD 1, but this will probably end up with 3 stars because it's not that interesting, especially towards the end.

Wilco reminds me of The Lemonheads. If you don’t know who they are then how about Bright Eyes with less lyrical genius behind them? If you still don’t know, give this a listen on a low key day. It’s not a bad album. It kept me teetering on “do I skip this song or keep listening?” I may not listen to Wilco again but I’ve officially taken a far step away from my original belief that Wilco sucked. Choice cut: Misunderstood

For years, I just assumed Wilco was a twangy country band that tapped into rootsy Americana in a way that made Pitchfork writers give them too many flowers. A friend recently corrected me, saying they're a lot more indie rock than I was imagining, and insisted I should give them a listen. Well, this is serendipitous. And I don't know if that was a good thing. Sometimes, you hear an album and you know it's very good. But you also know it's not totally for you. That's exactly how I feel about this album. Sure, it's a lot more indie – a lot more alt-rock – than I assumed, but it's also very folksy, very twangy, and my Northeastern ass has a hard time with those sounds. And the rock/indie textures here is also something I traditional don't adore, either. Still, there are a lot more moments that I liked than I assumed there'd be, and it's more than half the record. But that's my other issue, too. This is soooo long, it becomes exhausting. And it's exhausting and feels long because it's all over the place. I feel like the best critique of this album is that it could've been a solid 5 stars if it was half the length, and cut down to 10 songs. I have a thing for short albums (maybe punk culture; maybe ADHD), but this throws way too much at me. The issue is that I'm unsure what to cut. I personally prefer the barn burners, but I'm sure a lot of Wilco fans prefer the slow burns. If you cut half this album, do you cut it 50/50, or according to texture? Because 50/50 is the same results to me, and otherwise one is a classic and the other is a bland album I would never revisit. Clearly, I have struggled with conceptualizing this album in my head. I think Wilco's a cool band, I think there's an album by them I may like in the future. Hell, I think some of these songs will end up on a future playlist for me. But in its entirety, I'm not here for Being There, but I'm glad other people are in attendance.

Sunken Treasure of course very good. I like Wilco trying to rip off Big Star's Kangaroo quite a bit. Strum some melancholy chords, let a rumble of electric guitar threaten to take over, great formula. I don't like Wilco jamming on rockin' tunes, or on country/blues, for the most part. It's probably a Good Time if you're a dad looking for good time music. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

Wilco easily has two 5 star records (three, if live ones count). This one sounds like a soon-to-be 5 star band finding its footing.

Don't really get the reverence for Wilco. There are other bands that have done the same thing better, and Jeff Tweedy's voice is middling at best. There's some decent tunes on "Being There", but there's nothing nothing special about any of it.

It was apparently great background music because I do not remember it at all

I was not expecting much from this album, but it really surprised me. Being There has a relaxed, confident feel to it. It blends alternative rock with Americana in a way that feels natural and unforced. There is variety across the record, yet it still hangs together well as a complete piece. Monday is a great tune. Catchy, upbeat and instantly likeable. Outtasite Outta Mind has real energy as well and adds a bit of punch to the album. There is a warmth to the songwriting that makes it easy to keep listening. Favourite songs: Monday and Outtasite Outta Mind Least favourite song: None that stood out negatively Album artwork: Simple and understated. It suits the laid back tone of the music perfectly

Better than the last entry I listen to by Wilco with some good tracks but still pretty run of the mill

This was so inoffensive that I would feel bad giving it any rating other than 3 stars. It was pretty forgettable, but it didn't grate in the slightest and I could even say I quite enjoyed having it playing in the background. I was expecting it to start to drag, but before I knew it, the last track was winding down and it was done. I now have zero interest in ever listening to it again.

Never really got into them, but theyre coop enough

Yeah it's alright. Gets boring after 5 or 6 tracks though, and by the end I was completely over it. Too long with too little variation, sounds like any cookie-cutter country/blues/rock album that many others before have done better. It's the McDonalds of rock albums.

Pretty solid blend of genres, at some points reminiscent of LCD Soundystem, then moments of country, then some pretty banging alt-rock An album that feels like it was alot of fun at the time for the band but perhaps results in an uneven mix of songs that feel personal and intimate, and those that feel short and basic

This album had some good songs, but was also quite bloated. It felt like there was quite a bit filler. Despite that, this is still an album that I want to return to at some point. I like Wilco but am unfamiliar with some of their early stuff. 3/5

So I've decided that my opinion of this band is probably just that they're OK. I completely forgot that I had already reviewed an album by this band on this website before -- I've listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and I rated it 4 stars. And yet, despite that above average rating, I remember absolutely nothing from that album. Similarly, with this album, though I am able to recognize that this is probably above average music, with above average songwriting and production and the like, it is simply very forgettable to me. Also -- this is a double album. Albums that have a run-time of over an hour are always a struggle for me to get through. Too long.

Wilco was the cool indie band to like when I was in grad school. I didn't particularly enjoy what I heard then but that wasn't this album. I initially didn't enjoy this (when I was actively listening while driving to work). I felt that the music/instrumentation was good but that the vocal was mediocre. Specifically I thought the songs would be better without the vocals. I listened to most of the double album twice and I progressively liked it more and more and the vocal weren't as grating. That being said, the vocals are clearly the weakest component of the music. This is a great passive listen but I don't know if I'll ever choose to listen to it (actively).

I liked the first track a lot, I liked the feed back and I thought the quiet parts were nice. After that was a nice acoustic song which was fine. But then it started to sound like a Disney Channel original movie soundtrack where the band gets back together after learning the meaning of friendship. And then they started playing country 🤮 🤮 🤮. There were a few songs here and there that were good, but most of them were forgettable. I can see why some one would like this, but it just isn't for me. 2.5

There is no reason to make an album this long, especially when you only have a handful of memorable songs on the entire album. Take on your own ego and admit that you didn't write 19 songs worthy of making the album. Do some editing, hire a producer that will challenge you in the studio, do some reflecting. All that said, I generally like Wilco, just not 19 straight Wiclo songs.

A little to diverse (or disparate) to form any kind of common thread. Not bad, not great either.

A couple of good songs on there. But generic 90s guitar rock that seems pretty uninspired for the most part

I mean, yes, fine. Good old '90s acoustic/alt sound, which I like, but after a while this album gets pretty long and the songs all start to sound similar.

Big fan of Wilco, but they could have cut a few songs out of the album.

13 in een dozijn folkrock.

Better than I thought I would like it.

Contemplative, reflective album

Alt-Country: If you like Whiskeytown, you'll like Wilco. You can tell that the primary songwriter/lead singer started out in Rockabilly.

Wilco - another American band with no clear direction (country - rock - balads?). Not really remarkable.

Mixed bag. Far Far Away is very pretty. Forget the Flowers good too. More country than I expected, though there's variety here. Sunken Treasure strong start to disc 2. I also like The Lonely 1. There's a **** album in here somewhere.

First time listening to Wilco. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it

I was looking forward to this, I love Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I realised I prefer later Wilco though who lean more into the indie rock sound. This was a bit long and dragged slightly.

I had no idea what to expect. I heard the band's name mentioned but never heard their music. I did not care for it at first but it grew on me. Surprisingly good.

I enjoyed this so much more than I thought. Second time a country album surprised me but I enjoyed the rock oriented songs much more than the country ones. Will definitely grow on me. 3.5/5

I used to have Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on my iPod and used to like it but that was all the Wilco I knew. Really into the steel guitar on this. Like Ali and Nick probably won't go into rotation but very decent listen

An enjoyable album by a band that put out one of my favorite albums. I prefer their later sound but this was still a very strong set

This album was ok, it went on a bit too long. I quite like Wilco without being overly keen, a bit like Arcade Fire - can take it or leave it.

Plenty nice chilled out Americana rock and roll! Not their best stuff, but by no means is it bad! Enjoyable but doesn’t light any fires in me.

Not so much for me. Had some good points and I will give it three stars because I heard a banjo.

Der var gang i den på det her album, og det jeg forventede var mere noget stille akustisk musik, men det var også en del rock hvilket jo heller ikke er skidt. Vil gerne lytte mere til denne.

i liked this better than other wilco albums i have listened to, but that band has never done much for me

Dad rock at its most confusing, it got better towards the end.

Albums like this are what causes problems with a 5 star rating system. I’m a Wilco fan, I really like Being There. I would love to give this 4 Star. But I’m going to give Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 4 stars and Being there is not as good as YHT. So 3.5 or 3.75 would be more accurate. Great album though, glad it showed up today, I really enjoyed listening to it again, it had been awhile.

It was good but kinda overstayed it’s welcome

Feel good 90's alt rock, not really my cup of tea. Very solid 6/10.

My first impression is that Wilco and this album are nice, by which I mean pleasantly mediocre. This streamed right through my ear buds, my brain, and out the other sides leaving tasteful traces of the Stones, background music in popular youth dramas, and ephemeral maudlin insights. When they rock out, they are adroit with the mother push and pull, and I have an enduring fondness for the 'Burn to Shine' performance of the later "Muzzle of Bees". Skipper, I managed one and a half listens, I gave what I could... 2 would be unfair, 4 would be dishonest, so...

A nice mix of grungy, bluegrass-ish songs.

Slacker indie country - I remember hearing these guys and wishing it was Gomez

Wilco is one of those bands that I've always wanted to give a try. Now I've got two albums of theirs under my belt, and I think the right word is whelmed.

Wilco is just not for me, interesting melding of sounds but it lacks a groove I can engage in. One track I did enjoy was “I Got You(At the End of the Century)”

Sympa sans plus. Un peu long

First two tracks I really enjoyed. Chilled and fuzzy, good late night stuff. Then two late period Rolling Stones rockers which I do not want. Then a country trundle. Back on solid ground with Red Eyed and Blue, but then we're back to sub-Stones (I say sub, this is probably better than what they were up to by this point). I think this is going to be one to pick stuff out of for playlists rather than anything I'll listen to all of again. Yeah, one hour younger me was correct. There is wisdom in youth. Listenable but not memorable, largely.

nice country rock, worth a listen if that's your deal. "hotel arizona" and "sunken treasure" are both great, rest was a little samey but differentiable enough.

This album had a very strange affect on me. I found myself simultaneously liking and disliking all of the songs. They all had elements that I enjoyed, but then something else about the song would bring me back down. It’s a long album, but it’s definitely an interesting one, even if I’m not sure how I really feel about it.

Alternative country. I've never thought, that some genre like that exist. But apparently it does. And it's pretty good. Chill, inspiring, even thought-provoking.

A bit too long, but good 8ndie rock with some pretty alt-country added for old times sake. Quite Rolling Stones on places.

As always with Wilco, the good stuff is great, there's very little downright poor music but rather too much of it settles nicely in the background, musically speaking. I'm not sure it sustains itself over four sides.

It was fine 2.5/5

The quality of these songs do not justify the run time of the album. Shorten up the track listing and focus on improving your best songs. Too repetitive for nineteen tracks. None of the songs were bad. I enjoyed all of them and I did enjoy the album, just a little annoyed with the way they spent some of their time. 3/5

Would have made a pretty good single album, but dunno if it’s a great double lp. I had never heard any of these tracks before & I’ve only just given the album a single listen. It sounds to me like a 70’s album - The Lonely 1 reminds me of Jackson Browne ( I was a huge fan, but not the biggest - I had a mate who thought Browne was in the T.S. Eliot class - really!) & there are a lot of 70’s alt/country sounds on the disc (Forget The Flowers or Someday Soon). Not that that’s a bad thing. I’m one of those who loves banjos - works well on What’s The World Got In Store. It was a good listen but 19 tracks was a bit of a stretch.
