Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Tried over three occasions to get through is and I know it's cool to like Wilco but it was a fucking slog.

Absolutely skilled musicians, but what a drag of an album. I love all the genres these guys are influenced by and a lot of bands that have been influenced by them, but they make such boring music to me.

Maybe this is genius & I’m just to lowbrow to know, but to me the songs are just…boring. It felt like a chore to get through the whole thing. Not for me.

Meh 2.5

This is so much more pub rock than what was on YHF - not so much my vibe sadly, but I'll ask my Dad what he thinks of it I guess

There is no reason for this list to have three (THREE) Wilco albums on it. This one is inessential and overly long.

Fine. Some really solid tracks that’s I’ll come back to. Album just too long and so it started to sound monotonous. Not sure I’d want to relisten to full album again

I’ve come to review this album and realised that I remember very little about it, which is not a good sign. It didn’t keep my attention, other than to frequently wonder how much longer I had to listen to it. It was all just dull and not to my taste.

Not bad, not good either. Weird pace and song order choices.

This is one of those bands that I've tried to like before... for all intents and purposes, should like, but it always turns out to be more twangy than I expect or like.

boring.....just boring.....

Easy to listen to mellow rock with a country vibe. Not bad but I'm not sure it's really my thing. Some nice beats and the vocals are nice but it doesn't really strike me as something that I am into. I wouldn't seek it out but I don't regret listening. These songs would be great to add to a chill music mix.

This would be three star album but there is no justification whatsoever for music that is this average going on for this long.

Too long, not good. Pushes past the melancholy charm of Wilco straight into being annoying. Not a fan of this one.

Forget the Flowers is excellent.

Just okay.

Yeah pretty much too sad for me to listen to all the way through, really bummed me out and was not the vibe I needed.

It's okay but too long.

Mid 2 best song: sunken treasure Default post beatles music. Strum the chord pattern, plod the drums, why not a bit of piano, backing vocals etc

I was dreading this day after listening to their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot mess of a record (which I think has been my least favorite album thus far [139 down]) about 80 or so albums ago. And then I see that it is 77 minutes long..... ugh fuck me. Welp here goes nothing, be back in what presumably will feel like a fortnight. Well, it was far better than the last album of their I listened too, but that was a pretty low bar to clear. They clearly have an eclectic sound that covers a range from country, indie, pop, shoe gazed and even a pinch of grunge. They don't do any particularly well and there were several moment where I sighed in annoyance of the lyrics and vocals. The music was rather boring, even when it had some energy behind it. Overall, Wilco sounds like a talentless, soulless version of Modest Mouse. I don't get how they have an ablum on this list, let alone 3. I can't see a scenario where this is a must hear album, unless it is a lesson on what audio version of watching paint dry is, and how to avoid making such music. 3.1/10 140/1001

I didn’t dislike it. Like when someone shows me pictures of their cat. But as music. Just completely indifferent. It’s session music. Rolling Stones B-sides. Probably great to listen to at a local festival in the sun with a cold beer. But not while I’m cleaning the kitchen.

Don't know what it is about them, I just don't like 'em.

It was ok. Jangly americana noise folk that was way too long and mostly just "there" instead of intensely melodic

Soft songs with short titles - but just not interesting to me.

Not sure. Maybe not for me

Boring and entirely too long.

This starts off promising, but quickly deteriorates into a confused mash of a bunch of different styles that I mostly hate (putting these kind of vocals atop banal Americana is an abomimation). I can see why it's on here though - aspects of this seem to have become the blueprint for a lot of indie music that would come out in the ensuing 15 years. In fact, I had to check that vocalist and chief songwriter Jeff Tweedy wasn't quietly fronting all those bands too. But no, I guess this was just influential. It's not horrible. High 2.

The favourite album of that devout Christian kid in your class who - in an act of extreme rebellion - secretly bought a Wilco record after school with the money intended for whatever God-rock slop was topping the billboard country music charts that week. All of which is not to say that Wilco’s Being There suffers for all of the reasons that make those other genres a tough sell. Only, these songs lack such an edge that one could easily mistake Wilco for being totally void of anything interesting to say here. Which may be unfair, but I’m not exactly eager to shell out passes to bands that insist their output is refined or interesting enough to justify a full length double album for their sophomore effort. Better times are ahead for Wilco, but this left me feeling quite bored outside of a couple of well-composed highlights.

I realize why I’m supposed to like it but it is just boring

There were some decent songs and think some could grow on me but by and large this wasn't really my thing. It was long but didn't feel as long as I thought it would. Also the backstory on making it a double album was pretty cool. Rating: 2.5

Was over it about halfway through disc one, and disc two did nothing to reel me back in

Average. Forgettable...

Is that the fucking meet the engineer song?

There is some sophistication in this music but it is too whiny for me

my driving time to work is what I consider a perfect LP length, 40-45min. now, I'll have to touch my in-dash halfway and switch to today's generated LP. wilco, wilco...making me feel unsafe on the road. 2/5

meh at best

way too long

The first minute of the first song - Misunderstood - was absolutely amazing. It was dynamic and interesting, and then it kinda deflated. The rest of the song was alright, and then the rest of the album was another whatever album for me sadly. 2/5 stars.

An hour and a quarter of unmemorable blandrock.

Wilco feels like quality music but I just don't like the genre and therefore don't enjoy it. Rating: 2

I like Being There lots more than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but considering how many garbage sounds on that album, Being There could only improve my opinion of Wilco. This album is a weird mish-mash: the first half is alternative and rock, and the second is folk and country. Cohesive is not the word I'd describe this double album. Being There came across as fairly bland, and most songs didn't stand out. And I'm still not into the lead singer's vocals. 2.5

I actually forgot to write a review for this album, so that ought to tell you how I felt about it. Honestly though, it was okay. It was a bit too long and none of it was particularly memorable. I will say, these guys were bringing the 2000s indies vibe way before the 2000s. This album definitely has similarities to "Yankee Foxtrot Hotel", their 2001 indie hit that would not come out for another 5 years. So these guys were definitely pioneers of the sound! A high 2, probably, but not really enough to make it a 3.

I had a really great eviscerating review going when my computer crashed, so I'll try to retype it, but it won't be the same. *clears throat* Ahem... There was absolutely no reason this needed to be a double album. It contains some of the most sophomoric lyrics I've ever heard, and the musicianship and production aren't particularly good either. If you add "The Lonely1" to the first album, it would actually be decent. "Say You Miss Me" is a strong ending to the album, and overall it would be a solid 3 stars. Nothing groundbreaking and boring at times, but good enough and enjoyable for 90s alternative. But then we get to the second album, and it's a mess. And boring. I've already listened to like 40 minutes of Wilco at this point, and the second album doesn't tell me anything I don't already know. Plus it's country for seemingly no reason? I don't hate country, but it's almost like they just mashed two completely separate albums together because they thought the world needed to hear it. But we didn't. There's no story or overarching thread that justifies putting together two seemingly random albums that go on for a combined 80 minutes. Unless whiny white boy songs with basic ass lyrics is considered a concept. There's better 90s alternative. There's better country rock. There's just better. The second album really drags whatever they were trying to do on Being There down, and if I was just rating that, it would probably get 1 star. I'm giving this 2 stars, though, because there were a few things I enjoyed about the first album, but the second almost dragged this whole thing down with it. This generator has proved that certain artists are just not for me, and Wilco is one of them.

similar to their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, I just don't find this band very interesting.

Hard not to fall asleep.

That one was insanely long and insanely generic. Nothing aggressively bad, but it was hard for me to remember anything about it.

Background rock

Forgettable for me.

För mycket country för mig

Son Volt ftw

I’ve heard bits of Wilco I liked, but this gave some “doing an impression of oasis” vibes and I don’t know really know why. Something just never clicked on this one

Bloated very little dynamics.

Not bad, just not really for me

Not too bad!

Thankfully this dross didn’t make it across the pond to England.

ok rock

Pff. WAUW dat laatste nummer Dreamer in my dreams is hilarisch! FAVO: Monday, Forget the flowers, Kingpin

What a nothing burger of an album. Probably 2-3 years too late to have any relevance to music of the era.

This is really not my bag.

Production was cool sometimes but hated his voice wow

This upgrades my opinion of Wilco from 'up themselves' to 'only up themselves some of the time'. It's OK level easy listening rock.

Wilco? More like WON’T go!! Up top. Give me a high five. No? Why not? Is it because I made a bad joke via typed review? Or is that nobody is reading? That would be tough either way. I’m hurt. I’m glad this looks sappy as all get out. Maybe this is David Wilcox’s emotional return from “Do the Bearcat.” Only one way to find out. Google. It is not David Wilcox. Onwards and hopefully, upwards. Whoa. I was listening to grindcore before this and the opening was kind of a good transition point. Following the buzz, the melody is kind of nice. Not a huge fan of the piano but this song is decent. Repetitive, but interesting. The last two minutes are actually the best part. Now to the modern country part. Here’s the catch. It’s not abhorrent modern country. It is kind of nice. If you said to me, “hey, we’re going to be hearing some mid 90’s country,” I would’ve passed clean out. Fortunately, this song is actually quite good. Sounds like a genuine expression. Good stuff. Oh what the hell. Oh. Never mind. I thought we were getting a full didgeridoo song. A little too upbeat here. A Ska song by Bryan Adams feat. Ryan Adams feat. Bon Jovi. Deliver me from this cursed chant. Thy lyric cast unto me a wicked spectre whom I cannot elude. My days fade with each passing trip to Tallahassee. I wish to reach the snow but I am dragged down to this wretched panhandle once more. “Out of this pan” I shout. Deaf ears. This was better. Not great. Fine. This is a fun little country song. Much improved. Sweet melody, simple, with a nice little indie nerd flavour. Excellent. Red-Eyed and Blue ended up being a little boring. Grabbed my attention once. The words are interesting but other than that, a pass. Same-y riff time. This is veering back into the Bryan Adams shit. Wilco. My brother/sister/non-binary homie. This isn’t good. I’m worried about stock issues at “the world.” Not much in store here. Kind of fading in the middle here. This is a long one too. Jeez. Not a good start to “Say You Miss Me.” Too sappy. Attempted hit police have been called. Wilco, you are simply not pop enough to make a 90’s wedding country ballad. Please take your hands OFF of the acoustic guitar or we will use lethal force. Disc 2 autocorrected to “died 2.” That’s sort of how I felt when I saw that this puppy was 7 minutes long. I’ve always said, we have too much freedom as a society. The joke is, I don’t hate this song that much. Don’t say rock n’ roll so much. That is a heavy critique of this entire album to be fair. The weird dissonant guitar parts of this song are great. Hmm. I thought I hated this song, but I don’t. The guitar is way cooler, the banjo should replace the piano in every instance. I still hear that dumb riverboat riff trying to poke its head in there. Outta Mind was decent. The streak is ramping up a little bit. Nah, this is another attempted radio display. That’s strike 2 Wilco. Kingpin was super fun. The funk bass was out of left field and made for a different track. Were you in my dreams? No, Wilco. Last night I dreamt I saw a surfer get eaten by a shark from a raft in the sky that was taking the classic trip from eastern Australia to Halifax, Nova Scotia. So, no. Dreamy alt-country ballads did not appear. Why would you wanna (Live). Right?? Wilco is fine. Well. Maybe he’s not fine. Is he singing about his own parasocial relationship? Maybe he really loves David Wilcox and has attempted to meet him on stage. Dear David, I did the bearcat to your latest song. If you know what I mean. I can’t wait to see you through your hotel room at your next show. Keep an eye on the lights. You won’t feel a thing. Love, your biggest fan. Anyway. Let’s close it down with this song played in the jukebox at a soda jerk. Real boot-scootin’ time. Mid as hell closer. This album is a strange one. I was captivated by the atmosphere at times and dreading the next song at others. I think if this shaved 4-5 songs off or 20-35 minutes, we’d be talking about a nice little indie-country record. Instead, we’re looking at a decent but more than slightly bloated monster that could’ve been shaved down heavily. When I start writing about stalking David Wilcox or writing odd medieval tomes, you know something is either really great, or lagging a little bit. I’ll take the latter on “Being There.” While I didn’t want to be anywhere but there, I was certainly a little antsy to mosey my way on to the next one. 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Forget the Flowers, Someday Soon, Kingpin

Too long, not really any stand out tracks for me. Some of the more up beat rock was ok. Everything else seems to just drone on, maybe the lyrics were great , but I missed em

What I find most disappointing about this album is that apparently they can play interesting music, they just chose not to

I will reveal my zoomer-card here but the only thing I noticed was that the Meet The Engineer song was based off of Someone Else's Song

Just no. I despise anything country-related.

So beige. So boring. So forgettable.

Just never got into Wilco and really like do many acts associated with/similar to them.

Not bad but just not my jam

I already struggle with Wilco and their most popular album "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". This one is an even bigger struggle with a more country influence (not a fan). Also, it is too long. It's clearly not bad on a technical level, but I just can't get into it.

Ok background music. Singer voice and coughing mid song not my thing. 2 star

I thought I would've liked this more but it felt pretty forgettable. I think it's entirely too long for what it's doing.

They remind me of Canadian bands like Sloan, Thrush Hermit, The Inbreds, The Newgrand... Again I feel like I've heard music like this all my life. It's not doing anything standout. Pays homage to the past a bit. Too much of it. It's built well, but I just don't need it.

like a lot of my fellow reviewers I also found this album quite boring, it's perfectly fine background music, not an album I need to listen to before I shuffle off this mortal coil

Ok. Bit boring

Yeah, no. I know I’m supposed to love this band, but this is some white boy nonsense. I’m not listening to none of this.

Day 70 - Nov 24nd, 2024 In the words of Abby Lee Miller, “Boring, yawning, sloppy…. LAZY!" 2/5

long and country = meh

Boring bland lame low energy depressing not good

the boring songs are boring and the upbeat ones sound like Springsteen

#407. Not outright terrible. But certainly uninteresting in the same way every other modern hipster folk album is. Also as a double album, it does drag on for quite a while. The second half was better I thought, though. 2/5: boring

Some decent stuff on here but they do like to drag it out. This is epitomised by the last track, which finally seems like they have landed on a memorable hook, but then has two false endings and takes 3 minutes to finally wrap itself up. A harsh 2, with a bit of brevity it probably could have scraped a generous four.

As with most double albums, this one overstayed it's welcome

Boring, long, and depressing

get out of here

Weaker than Wilco's later work, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The band experiments with a fairly bland alt-country genre that might work as a track or two sprinkled amongst some much stronger and less outdated compositions, but 77 minutes of this is just slightly too much for my taste. The jangly acoustic guitars and uninspiring singing get a bit stale after the first dozen tracks (and some of these tracks are in excess of 6 minutes long). Poor music for close listening; great fodder for background noise at Uncle Joe's farm party. Fortunately, though, we do see a glimmer of the better songwriting that's to come. The tracks I Got You (At the End of the Century) and Monday have an electric hard-rock energy that's quite different from the remaining tracks, and that breaks up Disc 1 nicely. Dreamer in My Dreams, the closing track, is also worth mentioning for its overuse of drunken noises and being a nice all-out way to end an unnecessarily bloated album. Forget the Flowers and Misunderstood are the strongest of the slightly mellower tracks, but they (like most early Wilco songs) still bring nothing new to the musical world, and are pretty uninteresting as a consequence. 2/5 Key tracks: Monday, I Got You (At the End of the Century), Dreamer in My Dreams

Vintage. Average. It feels country rock. That's it. Nothing really happened. And it's not my favorite genre. Maybe I'll appreciate it in my 50s.

Too eclectic. Like they don’t know what they wants to be. Boring for the most part.

This album meanders from a few love struck songs to one feel good song and then repeats. Not all bad though.

Better than the first song suggested it would be, but too long not to be a slog

Far too long, I was relieved when it ended. There may well have been moments in the album where I was enjoying the music, however they have been lost amongst an endless stream of forgettable noise.

I can't believe that this band is back on this list. I can't see what all the fuss is about. They are just a bunch of mopey lads. if you want any happiness sucked out of you then listen to these boys.

Sorry, there are a few times when they push out to the edges and start to sound unusual, but the won't hold there, and some songs they sound like a country version of the Beatles. 2 stars

It is much better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but this band is just simply not for me

If Weezer was a bit more indie and grew up in Nashville. Wayyy too long and boring

Appreciate the intent and aspiration of a double album but for me, the songs just don’t stand up.

Not much of a fan of Wilco. Never got into them. I know a lot of people enjoy their music. I respect what they deliver but not for me

Maybe if I had more than a day to digest a double album chock full of strumminess I would like it more but I have my doubts. Ultimate Mojo magazine music.

Nothing special.

With 19 tracks, this did seem a long slog. It is a nice enough collection of songs, but a bit too much of a country flavour for my taste.

Such a fucking boring album.

Has some decent songs, but the entire album is far too long.

Each half would get a 3 by itself, but combined it's so damn long it gets a 2.

Indiscriminate economy pack of Americana. Lost a star for going on too long.

There's outstaying your welcome, and then there's this

Starts with a good song with multiple changes of pace in 'Misunderstood'. The rest of the album passes in one boring blur.

What the!

Far too long. I kept losing track of how I was or what I was listening to. Individually, many of the songs are decent enough, but I just got bored of the album, it all felt a bit too beige.

It's long. Some of the songs are pretty good, but overall it feels pretty mid.

I can't finish this one. It's just... no.

I dont know. Ok, but nothing great. 2.5

a few good tracks but overall kinda boring. 2.5 rounded down

While there are hints of something, I can't really find much that stands out. The first song was cool but then the rest of the album was just... Meh?

listened to in the car with jeannie didnt keep track of what i liked or didnt. dont remember liking it much

This is so sad. I can see why some people would like this but it just makes me want to bridge jump. 2 stars. I stopped at the first disk cause it was just gonna be more of the same.

I mean it was ok, then it just kept going!? way too long for this kind of music soz

Maybe I have a negative bias having heard Wilco not long ago, but this just felt more flat and undeserving of being on this list. Just nothing much to report really, felt like more of the same and didn’t need to be a whole double album!

I liked Yankee Hotel Foxtrot but this was significantly worse. The songs aren’t as strong and it sticks around long enough to become boring. Last track sounds like I Saw Her Standing There except it tails off into nonsense for 3 minutes after the song’s natural conclusion. Watered down snooze-fest 🥱

Eh, nothing really stood out here.

Would be a 3 if this was shorter

Never heard of Wilco. I kind of liked the country feel of this, I think if it weren't my third kind of mellow rock album in a row I'd have rated it higher, just wasn't what I was feeling today.

Going with a 2, because I can't give this a 2.5, and 3 would be too generous. This really is as average as it gets. The fact I know they have at least another album on this list is disappointing to say the least.

Nah. Not for me. It wasn't really getting somewhere.

This album is not good enough to be this long. Some nice songs but it all gets kind of boring

Generic sounding to me as no tracks stood out. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a much better record by this band imo

It had some moments. It's too long though. Could be condensed to be much better. Will I listen to again: 10%

Listened to the whole thing, can't recall a single word.

1.5 - I already didn't care about the good Wilco album, or at least the only one I ever hear about, so I wasn't excited for this one. Maybe a 2 would be okay if the album was much shorter, but damn, this one is long and really fizzles out what little it had by the end. Some songs were okay and/or had little parts that I liked, but a lot of it was boring or nothing.

I think I would’ve connected to this more when I was younger. Pleasant enough, but frankly kind of boring and far too long. Not interesting enough to warrant such a long runtime. Started at a 3, went down to a 2 by the end for being so egregiously long

okay to listen to

You know those in-game radio stations in GTA? Listening to this album feels like I've tuned into a sad-alt-country-rock one. Not particularly bad, just interminably long and better as background music.

Sad one, but got some bright moments

Lowkey not it.

they can play....he can't sing..

Nothing special here.

This wasn't bad, but I can't honestly imagine ever wanting to listen to it again. It's just... not bad. That's it.

Good music, and good lyrics, wasted on a soulless, lifeless, monotonous vocalist. You’d be happy if you walked into a bar and this were the house band, but if you paid for this you’d want your money back.

Quite passive, didn’t really jump out and grab me with anythin..

Lots of variability. Some good some bad. Not my thing.

This does nothing for me. There are a few decent songs on it, and the rest are unobjectionable, but it doesn't stir me in any way

Enjoyable but not a standout.

First two songs are an absolute bore. Monday is a "Springsteen" song Red-Eyed and Blue has the first interesting melody.

Not my vibe but I know it's well loved

I'm writing this review before I've finished the album which I don't normally do, but I can already tell at the end of first disk that I'm just not feeling it and this is pretty lame. I probably should like it more than I do, mid 90s alternative, guitar heavy - my favourite genres/time! But it's just boring, meandering, weird in places (but not in a good way), and has a twangy country bend to it - it is all over the place. Maybe it could have been something if they'd had a better producer who could have edited back a bit better and thrown the banjo in the bin? Dunno - I guess theres a reason I've never heard of them Finished it, it didn't improve

Very dull.

Listenable. But not raveable.

It's very country sounding. Not a fan.

Kinda bland

Inconsistent at best. The rockers are decent but there are too many country tinged songs that bring the album down. Also, completely unnecessary for it to be a double album. But hipsters are pretentious and full of themselves.

So middle of the road you can easily forget it’s even playing. Just listen to Eels - you’ll have a much better time 1.9

Liked the country sound of the last few tracks...efen though I am not a country music fan. The rest was just bland for me.

Perfect background music for coffeeshops. Well played, varied alt country, with a voice that suits the music. Probably a highlight in the genre. However, it doesn't resonate with me at all. On the contrary. When I feel like this music, I'd rather play something to snap me out of it. And despite the variety, it bores me. Favorite song: outtasite

Nice slow song in there but the rest didn’t float my boat.

humanmusic.mp3

Very mundane

Lowkey whiney, did like the cta song though 2/5

Second try at these guys after being mean to *Yankee Hotel Foxtrot*, this time I'll write while listening. ...Plonky plonk style indie rock. Good for a cloudy day, but I can't focus to this and it was a double album. "Monday" was good.

No thanks

Ok, a bit dull

I've always seen this group as the quintessential Millennial band. Respect for trying to keep their sound fresh for all these years, but this album, like many of this era, sounds like a lot of borrowing and not a lot of innovating. It was listenable but uninteresting, varied but not grounded. It struck me as an album liked by people who don't like music that much.

jesus fucking christ why was this SO LONG. I've gotten a string of long albums. Why does anyone think they are good enough to justify an almost 80 minute run time? It was the same song written over and over again. Cut it out or just split into two albums.

Took me two days to get through this album. It's too uninteresting to be this long. I couldn't enjoy listening to it at all and it felt like a chore.

was too long and boring liked few songs but nothing really outstanding happened

Forgettable

It is so rare for me to hear a double album and be excited. Most of the time there is no reason for the album to be as long as it is. This is an example of that. Choose the best songs and go with it.

Didn't do much for me, not a style I enjoy

I lik some Wilco, but to me this album is not very interesting for being so pretentious.

Wilco...sounds like I've heard this name. Well I misread the date of this album. I thought it said 1966. 1996 was a golden year. Kinda digging this. It's a bit country a bit grunge.

Such a long album, not really my cup of tea.

Only got 1/3 of the way through

way too long, sure great tracks but i had no right to be that long

Milquetoast indie rock. Offensively inoffensive

Right, ok then, that took a fair while, could have crocheted a jumper if I'd thought of it. Anyone out there at zero hour 9:00AM, thanks for reading. First thing to say before you take that last breath: don't bother with this. There's this second division of pop artists who get a lot of attention just for being a little serious, a little eclectic and young Jeffrey is one of them. Firstly, ditch the band sport and just be the solo artist you want to be, you wanna be Tom Petty you. The band, cor blimey guvnor how many times have we heard this type of stuff, Green on Red have a lot to answer for (sorry Yankee Dan if you are out there somewhere waiting for touchdown). Jeff, he's not the man he thinks he is. The country tunes are nice and the lyrics work well within the expectations of that format, not quite losing your dog and wife to the whiskey, but he gets what he has to do. So Jasper FForde fans if you have to listen to some of this then Far Far Away Forget the Flowers What's the World got in Store Say and You Miss Me are ok. But really why bother, go and have a whiskey and stare at pictures of your dog instead. Now, I can hear the faint tap tap tap of the distant flutterverse going into meltdown cause I've bagged Wilco, but before I end up being cancelled (maybe I already am) I do like the stuff they did with B.Bragg, but that's cause of two great talents in the Bard from Barking and of course Woody..

I liked some of the tracks, others less so.

Ehh, pretty average.

Way too long

I’ve never understood the obsession with Wilco. They may be one of the most boring bands I’ve ever heard. This album is also way too long. I honestly can’t remember how any of the songs go.

Music was really good. Dug the banjos, other instruments, all flowed well together. Lyrics were generic and actually quite bad. Shame, could have been a great album. Maybe an instrumental instead of those grade school level lyrics. Could have been 3.5 now 2.5

It was okay, nothing made me want to hit repeat. After a while it just droned on and with it being so long it made it into more of a chore than anything.

Really solid Indie/Folk-Rock but no such thing that needs to fill this list

It's okay. Outta Mind (Outta Sight) was nice, but otherwise this album is already outta my mind and I finished listening to it three minutes ago.

Alternative country rock, a bit too long, not feeling it.

Day 5 Misunderstood - 4 - Boring Far, Far Away - 5 - 2 songs in and I have already decided this guy has a boring voice. I like some of the guitar stuff he's doing though Monday - 7 - more upbeat song is nice, the background singers during the chorus certainly help and I really like the saxophone (I think it's a saxophone, I'm chronically bad with knowing instruments) I really hope this is where we lean towards more during the rest of this album. Outtasite (Outta Mind) - 6 - like the last song but less fun Forget the Flowers - 5 Red-Eyed and Blue - 6 - would have been 5 if they didn't add the whistling I Got You - 6 - I liked the song except once again the voice just isn't good. It doesn't help that the lyrics aren't anything to write home about. What's the World Got in Store - 3 - It reminds me of the song Adam Sandler plays in The Wedding Singer except a lot worse Hotel Arizona - 5 - not much to talk about here although I like the idea of each state having a song about their hotel Say You Miss Me - 6 - this song actually does have some things going for it. I like the instrumentals and I like the "oo oo oo" from the background singers. I'd be hard pressed to say this is a good song but it's one of the better ones on the album. Sunken Treasure - 4 - too long. doesn't justify its existence. his voice doesn't really work for this type of song. Someday Soon - 5 - it's short. gotta appreciate the short ones on these types of albums. Outta Mind (Outta Sight) - 5 - the voice actually sounds better in this one than ever, the rest of the song just misses the mark Someone Else's Song - 3 - zzz mimimimimi honk shoo honk shoo 😴😴 Kingpin - 6 - a bit more of a bitter sound than what has frankly been a bunch of redneck hillbilly shit sung by someone who can't sing. The instruments still hard carry here. [Was I] In Your Dreams - 5 Why Would You Wanna Live - 6 - moreso than usual, the instruments are good here. I also like the story going on in the song. The Lonely 1 - 2 - the instruments are boring on this one. It's just a boring track over his less than impressive voice. Genuinely nothing going for this song. Dreamer in My Dreams - 5 Overall: This album could have been a fun country album or, if they really tried, a good alt album. However, the singers voice doesn't match what the instruments are trying to do. I don't know how we're being there when I personally don't think this album ever got there in the first place. 94/190 or 49%

2.5. Pretty good but no exciting

'The Lonely 1' är fin.

The first few tracks sound quite decent, but then it gets boring quite quickly. Sitting through a double album of this was therefore not particularly enjoyable.

I love Wilco. I have most of their albums and have seen them multiple times. I'm sure this album is on here because it established their sound. It's good, don't get me wrong. But, I'd rather listen to YHF, A Ghost is Born, or Sky Blue Sky. This one has a few amazing tunes, but a lot of kind of boring songs. And it's a looooong album. I actually gave up on 1001 albums for awhile because I couldn't finish this one.

I don’t know what it is meant to be. It was all over the shop. I tried to enjoy it but it was a chore.

boring as wilco

Alright but I felt like it went wayyy too long

A weird mix between some cheesy pop songs, country and blues. I did like some parts of this album, but it lacks cohesion.

Most songs aren't that bad but the album feels incoherent and drags on a bit too long

It has plenty of good songs but it's way too long and lacks any form of cohesion. Does not feel like an album too me

If Zach Braff were an album, he’d look at this one and think “holy shit at least I’m not that boring”. Snooze fest

Meh, not really sure I liked it or not.

I know i should like it but man it was boring

What on earth is this doing on the list?!?!?

Not my bag.

I remember Wilco…sweet sweet Wilco. I always HATED IT

I like some later Wilco albums but this is very basic and uninspired. Some really bad country tinged stuff towards the end that is bar band quality. No need for a double album at all

Alternative country rock by the numbers. The album is much too long, especially considering it having not a single interesting song whatsoever. 2/5

What is this? Alt-Rock? Country Rock? Mundane Rock?

Wilco is so dull. 4/10

I actually liked this a lot more than I thought I would, but it was really dragging it's feet towards the end

2/5 This ones ok, didn't hit the mark for me tho sadly, was missing something.

I’m so bored. Why do people like this stuff? How is this exciting?

I just don't like wilco

They sound like a mediocre garage band down the street; I don't see the appeal.

I don't get the hype around Wilco (wait, *is* there any hype around Wilco?) This all just seems so... ordinary.

Eh, definitely not as good as Wilco's later work. Much more country influences on this one and less put together.

It was OK. Never a big Wilco fan.

A vast collection of songs that manage the impressive feat of leaving me utterly indifferent throughout.

didnt really enjoy this. i think wilco just isnt for me

country. instruments ok, voice annoying

Super long surprise country album. Not ideal.

honestly, not impressed, was expecting more from a wilco album.

Who'd've thought an early version of the Spotify playlist disguised as album would be from 96 and from an alt-country act. Yet here it is. Three formulas. Three times too long. And they're still at it in 2022.

It was okay

Not interesting at all

Alternativ indierock, country-vibes, lidt op og ned

For me the frustrating thing about Wilco, is despite their huge talent they produce albums with maybe one or two absolutely monster songs, but the rest of the album is essentially mediocre filler. Case in point - A Ghost is Born has At least that's what you said; Yankee Hotel Foxtrot has Jesus etc/Kamera; Summerteeth has How to fight loneliness; Wilco (the album) has I'll fight, and Sky Blue Sky has Impossible Germany/Either way, I could go on but you get the idea. If they put out a Greatest Hits album it would be absolutely essential listening as it would weed out all the dreck. Since Being There is only their second album, they still haven't fleshed out their sound despite this being 19 songs long. This album promises a bright future but it doesn't quite excite me.

Alright, quite easy listening but Disc 2 was a bit much.

A bit samey

wilco sind auch echt so sau langweilig

A bit too long to appreciate in a day - to be fair to other albums I guess I’ll give it a an average score - but it sounds very much like a grower

Minimal entertainment value here. D

Good, but too long. 2/5

ehhh i’m just not their biggest fan. their music isn’t my style and i just don’t really have anything good to say about them

Rather dull

Bit to tragic for me

I don’t get it. I feel that is my shortcoming, not the band’s. But just not for me.

L'ho trovato abbastanza ininfluente, almeno sulla mia attenzione.

Mainlining and mainstreaming are two different things. I prefer the musicians that do more mainlining than mainstreaming.

Boring. Sounds like the guy from Neutral Milk Hotel. 4/10.

I'm just not a huge Wilco fan.

I have heard of the band before but not familiar with their music. It is indie rock with hints of country. I did not need to hear this album.

I've had enough of Wilco

First Listen. Really like some of the songs. I'm excited to hear this one again. It is listed as Alternative Country / Alternative Rock. I feel more alternative rock than country on many songs, others the country comes through. Very nice. 2/5 Standouts: Misunderstood.

I used quite like Wilco, but I'm not keen on this album. I don't find it very easy listening and in places quite jarring. The best album I own of theirs is 'Kicking Television, Live in Chicago', which is a sort of best of.

New to me, interesting but after a few tracks, it all sounds the same to me.

Not bad, just all a bit much of a muchness with few real stand out tracks.

This largely bored the nips off of my tits. 'I got you' was ok.

Psé. Bastante insípido, la verdad.

I'm not sure why I don't like this, because it's got bits of things I tend to really dig. Maybe it's that? That I tend to like my country and garage rock undiluted, but this feels like it's borrowing elements of those forms but denuding them of context. I liked a few songs, especially 'Monday' and 'Red-Eyed and Blue'. Fuck double albums.

At almost an hour and twenty, there are some duds on this album but having never listened to (insert band name) before, I'm glad I did because there are some ones I pulled out as well like Outtasite and I Got You. I put the parentheses because I feel like a lot of these albums are blending together in their rock/folk/guitar work. I understand and appreciate that there are so many artists out there with gifts to share but as I say on almost every review, I'm not trying to listen to 1001 Mediocre Albums before I die.

I don’t get it.

More than once now I have put this record on and thought, “Oh wait, is this better than I remember??” But then the first song ends and the rest of it happens and I remember that nah, there’s not another tune on either of these two discs that sounds at all like “Misunderstood.” And then I go another few years without ever thinking about it again. I do like a few other tunes, but for every one of those there are four bland pseudo-country or Stones/Replacements jaunts that bring absolutely nothing new to the table. Makes me wonder if I could cull this down into an EP sized collection that I mostly enjoy? Get out the scissors.

bland 90s radio music

A slow, drawn out listen. I don't mind the music but to finish the entire thing you need to be in a certain headspace. Not my favorite, not my least favorite.

Just not for me at all.

shmilco

It was okay. It was a good blend of alt and country (imo) I listened to the first half of the cd, but didn’t finish.

eh it's not bad but it's background music to a country pub or something. it's kinda country, kinda rock, kinda soul-ish at times, a bit bluesy, just a whole heap of stuff but none of it grabbed my attention. 2/5.

Not my cup of tea

This shit was ass

I listened to the first track, saw the timeline of the full album track on YouTube, and thought: "Oh crap. Still more than an hour to finish this." The recording quality and use of instruments change so much throughout the album, and I really don't understand this lack of consistency... The style of the songs changes a lot, too. Sometimes it sounds like a boy singing to a Lou Reed song, sometimes like a boy singing to a Rolling Stones song...

I just found this so boring

Not for me. 1/5

I have always found Wilco to be utterly and hopelessly boring. This album to me is no different. And it’s a friggin double record. Jesus Christ. I know they are popular, but I just cannot ever figure out why. Most of the songs are musically boring from everything I’ve heard by them, I’m not really a fan of Jeff Tweedy’s voice. They are just a really, really generic sounding band. All are completely competent musicians, but they don’t ever seem to do anything interesting with their talent. I get some of the heartfelt, bygone era, missing home type lyrics. That’s all well and good, it’s just not for me in this moment. Maybe one day they will resonate with me, but it is not this day.

Indie country rock? Not for me thanks.

I was bored. V bored

Got dumped by someone who was a Wilco fan and can't listen to Wilco for a bit, sorry

I really don't know how this made it on this list

There were moments in here that conjured up The Killers/Brandon Flowers - which should have been an easy win. However, nothing ever felt all that well put together, and I was left feeling largely bored, annoyed, or both. Perhaps I'd have a better appreciation for this with more playthroughs, but its length seems too high a price to pay for entertaining that notion. Had it been halved, I'd have given it a 2 (or possibly higher with attainable replays), but at 75-minutes, it's a flushable fail that I'd rather just forget.

Someday Soon I won't have to listen to any more Wilco. Can't wait.

Didn't do anything for me tbh. Some echoes to the Byrds, Burrito Bros, etc (which Uncle Tupelo did better anyway), mixed with more contemporary sounds as if trying to be determinedly "different", it just comes across as a bit schizotic to me. Not one I'd return to.

Not too shabby! Didn’t rise to the one of the greatest albums of all time standard for me. Won’t rush to listen again.

Not a fan.

Yee-haw. Folk country music is annoying, even if they have a cool band name.

Duller than dishwater. Even the cover art is garbage.
