Didn't expect much and such was I delivered
produçao absurda, mas tem umas liricas mto bestas, repetitivas e em certos momentos, ruins. tinha tudo pra ser um album melhor. 4,5/10
Crazy to go from this to menulog ads. Hasn’t aged well.. beats are good if you can get past everything else
Diabolical album cover Diabolical bars Fave track: Who am I? (What's my Name?)
Smooth beats and there's nothing like Snoop's voice but I can't get past the juvenile, pretend gangster, misogynistic lyrics. (Love "Who Am I" though:)
I get why it's held in high regard...absolutely not for me

Kinda overrated
i liked the last two songs, and i really like the beats but idkkk
I was expecting this to be better. His IS the spelling bee champion of rap
Going back and hearing this it’s sounds totally juvenile and misogynistic. But Snoops voice and some of the beats are good. Faves are “gin n juice” and “what’s my name”.
I actually think this is a good album musically with some great beats and smooth grooves, but it's just not my style and I would not listen again. And my ratings are for Me :)
Nah man, Nah.
Not my thing
As a relic of a different era, fine. But really just a pile of misogynistic gansta claptrap
GOING IN: No strong feelings LISTENED WHILE: having morning coffee, pottering. FAMILIARITY: Know the artist, not the album SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Might come back to it DISCOVERY CURVE: Warmed up nicely ALBUM ARC: Strong start, tailed off VERDICT: Better than expected BODY'S VERDICT: Decent head wobble FAVOURITE TRACK: Gin and Juice My Rating: 2.5 Marked it down, 'cause, you know... misogyny and sweary words. Other than that, I dug it.
1st listen: lowkey good, I liked how he says "I have to piss" at the end and the next song is piss sounds, also I think I like "Gin and juice" and "Pump Pump" the most. But I HATE "Ain't no fun (if the homies can't have none)" like wtf. I hate those kind of songs. Anyway, songs are kinda same. idk how I feel 2nd listen: The start of the album is good but the end is shit. I liked "Who Am I(What's my name?)" and "Gin and juice" the most. I changed my mind "Pump Pump" is shit and "Ain't no fun (if the homies can't have none) is even worse shit. For real, I gave one less star because of this song. Overall, a good album in the start and then the songs just start to get repeatetive and boring that my head hurt in the end. Its also super misogynistic and plain gangster shit. Probably will listen to some songs but not the album.
We get it Snoop - you smoke weed. You don’t have to make that the defining characteristic of your entire personality though. Lyrically chauvinistic, misogynistic, and derogatory at times, it includes the worst of gangster rap. The only saving grace for me that stops it getting a 1 is that the beats and production is absolutely laden with hooks and choices that have gone on to define that west coast style - large Parliament influences in the bass and synths make it easy to understand why it was called G-funk. The vibe isn’t for me, but can see why it would appeal to others.
Not my style
I was not looking forward to listening to this album when I pulled it, and it definitely wasn’t my favorite. It’s not the album’s fault, I’m just not a big hip hop and rap girl. The only thing that saved this album from a one star were some of the good beats behind the awfully misogynistic lyrics. I don’t ever see myself purposefully listening to any of these songs again.
This must be.. satire?.. I'm not sure how else you defend the egotistical, misogynistic lyrics. At least he managed to tell us how large his balls are in each song At least it made me feel SOMETHING??
I remember when gangsta rap and California hip hop became popular. My impression then as a hip hop outsider was that the new sound ruined the fun. In some ways I stand by that. Snoop is silly but this has a dark side. I mostly object to the misogyny of this album. Snoop conjures a universe I don’t want to spend time in.
Aight.
All the things I dislike about rap on one album; lucky me.
Juvenile lyrics, repetitive music, crude in several meanings of the word. In short, not good.
not my usual kind of music at all, but i had fun listening to the beat and rhythm. The lyrics about women did make me feel uncomfortable 🤷♀️ My favorite track is ”Murder was the case” because i just love storytelling in music!!!
Nah dog...
not really my thing
I don’t really love it, and I feel without the nostalgia of being 13 it looses some appeal. Then again I’m not a hip hop fan but Snoop is unquestionably one of the top rappers of all time. I also think Dre’s productions are far more enjoyable than the east coast albums of the 90’s. I can do without all the skits always appear on these albums.
I dunno… some bangers but it also aged like sour milk.
not a big fan of Snoop as a leading artist - great feature and love his vibe in general but the material isn't as relatable or replayable in my eyes - great production overall though
It’s a rap album that’s for sure. Fav: Murder Was The Case
Okay.
No thanks.
I think I found snoop dogg to be the worst thing about this. I think basically all the features outperformed him. While not terrible I got bored pretty fast
I can see the appeal, cool concept of a party in progress. Would probably like this a little more if I was sippin on gin and juice.
I guess it’s funky and Gin n Juice is a certified heater, but if this is Snoop’s best, I don’t understand how such a mediocre rapper got so popular. His syrupy relaxed cadence is attractive to some, but it’s too sweet and simple for my taste.
Barely acceptable as background noise - these 90's rap artists must have been so insecure given all lyrics are talking about their dicks or chicks.
Not my cup of tea, I don't know enough about rap. More melodic than what I expected, appropriate level of profanity.
An album that starts out with several people talking at the same time and using a lot of foul language, I'm already wondering what to expect, so I looked up exactly what is hip hop only to find that it is a style of music which includes rap, DJ turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumentals with a cultural exchange, so this album made a little more sense to me. It isn't my style of music, but I'm glad that I experienced it at least once. Some of the beats were rhythmic and actually easy to listen to, but the random talking and all the cursing just kind of got annoying. I didn't mind the rapping portion of the songs, but I just wish there wasn't so much swearing. Best song: "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" for the upbeat, cheery melody, but the lyrics, singing, and talking need to be removed; worst song: "For All My Niggaz & Bitches".
2.5 it’s good and important but I don’t need it. Kinda annoying
he says snoop dogg a lot in his songs. Know some of these from Girl Talk All Day
Not my style
Thank you Snoop Dogg, really cool! Didn't really want to listen to The Chronic v2, tho it did hide its bad parts for a second, and the beat was good!
Some comedic moments, though maybe a little too much talk about their balls at times. I thought I liked Snoop. Maybe it's just this album.
I wanted to like this but, aside from a couple of hits, this one was disappointing
Pek sevdiğim tarzda değil
the chronic is way better than this, and snoop has since entirely sold out so I wasn't super into this album. Gin & Juice is cool but otherwise nothing much to write about
Yeah not my thing, and definitely of its time.
Not my vibe but there were some good songs and I appreciate it for what it was
Um...okay, I love Snoop, but the constant references to d**ks and b**ls is crazy.
This is the third album I've had in four days that is musically sublime and lyrically fucking moronic. It's making me really question the judgements and priorities behind this list. This album is obviously iconic and if you remember it fondly, maybe let those stay as golden memories rather than subjecting them to a full re-listen. It did actually prompt me to listen to MC Breed's Gotta Get Mine where 2Pac coined the phrase "I keep my mind on my money, money on my mind." That track deserved it.
Album was kinda boring and samey, no songs really stood out. Not bad and listenable but not super enjoyable either. A lot of the lyrics just sounded repetitive too.
This follows the usual MO for this genre where it has some semi-infectious grooves which are swamped by tedious interludes.
Clearly original and musical Ian places but th “humor” wore thin quickly.
Too rude, too goofy, too grating.
Needlessly vulgar, misogynistic and just plain juvenile lyricism on this one. Very hard to overlook. In terms of production, perhaps I’m too young to appreciate it, but it felt quite boring and monotonous. What I can appreciate is the storytelling aspect of the album, right from the first song the experience is quite cinematic really. But it’s not enough to save it for me. 2.5 if I could but I’ll round down
A product of it’s time, leans too hard to the doggy gimmick lol.
I’m just not a gangsta. Or a hustla. Or a bitch or hoe. Or… Dre’s beats tho….
I like most of the features but kinda one noted
Has not aged well. Maybe didn’t start off that great either, though the crunch, the buzz, and the whine are definitely iconic of the Dre sound and that era of rap.
Tedious.
Early 90's rap is not my thing and never has been, so I don't know how this may have taken what came before it and influenced what came after. All I can say is that I didn't enjoy this.
it was very hard to listen. i mean the music is kinda ok. the lyrics are unbearable. and those intros to every track... skipped half of the album. i know it's a classic but i just can't
Full rap albums, even the classic ones, are just not for me
Favorite tracks: Gin and Juice, Murder Was the Case This album is hilariously and unapologetically Snoop Dogg. It started out great and I was pretty excited about it, but it slowly got more tedious as it went along. Sex, pot, and gangstas - I get it! Then we got to Ain't No Fun, which really ruined the album for me, unfortunately. I don't think I've ever done such a quick 180 before due to a single line, which I can't even bring myself to type out in it's entirety: "I had respect for you lady But now I take it all back ..." Big oof. That is not it.
cartoonish muppet-like rapping filtered through parliament/funkadelic music. all of the songs are about either: getting high, getting drunk, misogyny, or violence. this is the whole album in a nutshell, and frankly it’s kind of tiresome.
D oh double g. 3/10
It was funny, when I was a Teenager and did not even get half of the lyrics. Today: meh. Although the rap and sound is tight.
I had LL Cool J yesterday and this today. I’m not a fan of hip-hop, or juvenile waffling generally, so I have not had a wonderful two days. It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s not interesting, it’s not getting played by me again. 3 stars, only because I don’t think it really deserves 2, but that’s a very grudging 3 stars. Nah, fuck it - it’s 2. Bitches.
I expected this to be painful considering the cover and title, but it wasn't unlistenable. I'd give it a 2.5 I think
Cmon man
kinda stinky. was probably cool whenever it came out. a nothing album
This album has aged so badly that it’s almost funny. The misogyny is pretty cringy and the lyrics are partly nonsensical. It’s pretty boring. There are far better rap albums from that era than this.
I'm neutral about snoop's voice, somewhat positive on his flow, fairly negative on the lyrics, and hated the skits. I really did like the funk, the beats, the SYNTHS (the moog-like analog sound ?? love it). But, while I really love some good high-pitched synths, the occasional REALLY high-pitched riffs got irritating fast. Murder Was The Case was the most egregious example, which sucked because I think it was one of the more interesting songs lyrically & narratively. Overall it was a good, fun, album, just not my thing. I might revisit one day when I don't have a migraine. 4.5/10. Favs: G Funk Intro (even with that intro and outro, this was by far my favorite. Maybe its just Lady of Rage, though)
I like the music and general feel of the production (especially the souly female vocals in tracks like Lodi Dodi) but the genre is just not for me. It was fun to hear the original version of Gin and Juice as I’m only familiar with the cover by The Gourds although, great a cover version as it is, I can’t decide how sincere it is. And I think that’s part of my problem with records like this Snoop Dogg one. I can’t work out how much he means it and how much he’s playing a character, and I feel completely unqualified to enter a discussion about it, but the language and tone just doesn’t resonate with me, in fact, it puts me right off. It doesn’t offend me - if they made a movie out of one of these tracks, I’d probably love it but as it is, I just feel a complete disconnect. My problem, not Mr Dogg’s.
Didn’t listen
Définitivement pas fan de Snoop Dogg…
Is Snoop Dogg supposed to be funny? And more importantly is Snoop Dogg to rapping what Rocky Flintstone is to self-published erotica? They both have an obsession with gin-based drinks. They both have a comedic, over the top way of discussing sex acts. They both embody an unearned swagger. As Rocky would say, "Questions, questions, questions!"
Genuinely taken aback at how little I enjoyed this.
Nostalgia for a some of these tracks saved it from the bottom of the barrel. A few of the tracks are enjoyable, but the ones that aren't really drag it down for me.
it was fun! not my fav tho
ikke lige mig.
Good wiener walking music
war nicht soo krass iwie also es war schon cool
New listen - starts out chill but I don't love it, subject matter, language

Snoop Dogg – Doggystyle [1993] This is going to sound like a review from an old coot but here it goes. If I had heard this album when I was still in high school I probably would giggled and laughed and loved it. By the time this came out lyrics like this kind of made my eyes roll. And now hearing the album for the first time in hole at age 56 it almost makes me wonder how this album stand stood the test of time considering how misogynistic it is how Pro violent it is (busting cap in someone for saying whatsup too much). Literally this album has very little remorse whatsoever. That being said i do like his laid-back style of rapping. I think with it not being so forceful and hateful i can at least enjoy the groove. And this is where i get the conflict on the message alone I really want to throw it in the sub 2star dumpster. But the music in the groove is pleasant enough to say it's not that bad, some 3½ material, but overall high 3. All in all i think the message kind of wins out but I'm not going to throw it in the dumpster. (5.45) ★★½
I can see the appeal. At the same time not really my vibe.
Geez, Well itvis really hard to take this album seriously, I laughed out loud at some lyrics, although they didnt age well. Im not a huge fan of rap, I like the instrumental, the basslines, but yeah, I dont think I will be listening to this again
He’s a genius but I just don’t have the ear for it. Gz and Hustlas has properly got me though!
This album is very far out of my comfort zone, and I can see why it is so iconic. I heard a lot of these motifs in popular 90s media. My favorite thing about this album is the storytelling. I'm glad I had a reason to listen to this from start to finish. However, the imagery is pretty gross for me personally, so I won't be returning to it.

This was fine to listen to, but hard to connect with at all. I’m a huge fan of the strange and terrible album cover though, more covers should be like that.
Too much n***a bitch etc
Не мое, прикольно но не мое fr 5/10
like two of these songs are good, why so many licking balls skits man
corporate bootlicker sellout sleeze bag. some grooves on here unremarkable album art is a solid 5 music is a high 2
Some great beats, but god some of the lyrics in this album sound like they're written by a 12 year old.
Not a fan of 90s rap
5/10 Nice beats. Gross lyrics
Well actually I think I hated this. I LOVE snoopy and +1 because he’s so so influential so there’s a valid resdon he’s on here, but I just don’t vibe with it.
I like Snoop's voice, I really like his flow, I especially like the old-school funk and r&b samples used on the album. Overall musically it just...flows. There's a chill vibe that works perfectly. Seems a perfect audio companion to a hot summer in the city. The negatives are big ones: I hate skits / chatter / etc. And the biggest is that too many of the lyrics are just ridiculously bad. Just dumb. Yeahhhh bitches'n'hoes yo....ugh. I'd rather have stupid lyrics that literally mean nothing but these are tough to get through - it's embarrassing. TL;DR: In the end it's almost a 5 for the great music but an easy dismissal with the shitty lyrics... I know it's sort of the "Snoop character" but it gets tiresome real quick and by the midway point of the album I'm too tired of it. 5/10 2 stars.
Meh. A couple tracks ok.
Struggled between giving this a 2 or a 3... This was a smooooth album and it sounded really nice, I'm not typically a hip-hop guy but I can't deny it was a good sound, however... The lyrics and themes just do not work for me. Sounds like it was written by a high school lad that still thinks drugs and sex are the peak of existence.
Overall an okay album, but some songs were a little too sexual for my taste. Similar to how I felt about Heaux Tales. The more ‘gangsta’ tracks were decent to listen to. Standout Songs: Gin and Juice Serial Killa For All My N*ggaz and B*tches Doggy Dogg World
Snooooop hahahaaaa did not listen but dude is GOATED THE GOAT lol. …
Fine.
I guess he was going for the womanizing connotation when he chose the "dog" name... turns out the submissive lapdog connotation was more apt all along, as seen by his performing for the powers that be in 2025.
Entretenido. Me sorprende que se hiciera tan famoso, supongo que era una novedad ser tan gamberro. No me he guardado ninguna en favoritos y se va quedar con dos estrellas.
Never understood that Doggy-Thing. Maybe because I do not have the biggest n*ts?! Fav: -
Pleasantly surprised I didn't hate it.
sick beats & straight corn
Okay for relaxing, not my first choice while driving.
Ehhh… this list has been terrific for my exposure to the genre so far. But this. Nah, I’m an east coast guy I guess. This is plain vulgar to the point that I can’t really get lost in the production. ⭐️⭐️
Not my thing but it is Snoop Dogg and there's a reason why he's Snoop Dogg. Respectable. Best Song: G Funk Intro Worst Song: Bathtub Added to Liked Songs:
It’s an okay album. I think the samples and rapping are pretty good (although I don’t really stand for the lyrics, guess I’m just not a G). The radio interludes sound like Cumtown bits: “This is the Jack Off Hour on WBALLS and I’m your host, DJ Eeeeeeeasy Dick”
I like Snoop Dogg's voice and the beats are good. This could be a very good album, but the lyrics and the over use of 'n***a', 'bitches' & 'muthafucker' are way too much. But I listened and didn't quit like I do for so many other albums on this crazy list. Won't be back to this one.
I. S any disagree that he does what he does well or that his sampling isn’t first-rate, but booze and misogyny just can’t hold together for me. I was cringing listening to his lyrics. Sorry O, can’t do it
Musically reminiscent of Parliament/Funkadelic. Lyrics have not aged well.
Lyrically it’s just okay, but the real legacy of this album is making the standard for the beats of west coast rap incredibly high and helped west coast rap make amazing beats throughout the ‘90s
I’m not a fan of this. It was just… hollow? And I hated all of the sound effects. Some of the songs on the latter half of the album were fine but it was nothing special.
I can understand why this album is iconic, I really can. But the COVER?? I hate it so much. I get objectifying women was cooler the. But it doesn’t sit any better with me now.
2.5
Bara sex o snusk
I may be biased because Snoop is a sell out :/
Definitely catchier than 50 cent which isn’t saying much. I had heard a few of the songs. But can’t do 3 stars because I won’t listen to Snoop again based on this.
5/10
I get it, there are some classic bangers on this album, and Snoop Dogg doesn't get to be hyper-famous without being talented. But man, I just can't stand him as a person. Musically this is a 4-star album, but I can't give it more than a 2.
Listened on 5/26/25 2/5 Favorite songs: Lodi Dodi Not my thing but I appreciate the album cover and commitment to a theme
2.5
Some bangers some misses but I think less misogynistic than most music of its time perhaps
Not much to say on this one. Don't really like it, but definitely not the worst I've heard. My standout was "Gz and Hustlas", but that was kinda it. A lot of cussing and sex, but not much else. Probably great if you're into it, but was not able to convert me.
The production (for the best), and the lyrics (for the worst) are very of their time. I love the smooth, groovy and glistening synths and bass on this, though there aren't many highlights that blow me away. Snoop is fantastic as a feature on a song, but not really what I'm looking for for a whole record. Best Tracks: - Gin and Juice - Gz and Hustlas Worst Tracks: - Lodi Dodi Rating: 5/10
The only thing that Snoop and I have in common is that we like Gin and Juice. I don't think I have ever heard the word dog or doggy said so many times in my life. Also, he had too much talking and noises that weren't instruments in this, it started to annoy me by the end
⭐️⭐️ 1001 ALBUMS- # 39 Snooooooop Dooooooogy….Sloppy Style. Where do I even begin to assess ‘music’ with lyrical content which include the lines “got a pocket full of rubbers and my homeboys do too', 'Guess who back in the motherf**in house with a fat d**k for your motherf**in mouth” 🍆🤣 Seriously though on musical merit alone this album definitely grooves, however it seems to focus too much on being a parody of itself ala Weird Al the rap version, striving to fit in as many N words and ‘biatch’ nouns as humanly possible. 🎧 Classic Track: Who Am I (What’s My Name)? 🎧 Deep Cut Gem: Lodi Dodi 🚫 Skip Track: …For All My N**az & Bi***es There are some real LOL moments on this thing, clearly having aged horribly, however somehow is held in quite high esteem. Admittedly I’m no rap connoisseur, but you would think this whole shnizzle my dizzle schtick would’ve worn thin to justify spreading is across 19 tracks…and yet he continues up with this persona still to this day 30 years later?!? 🖼️ Album Artwork: As juvenile as the lyrical content 🐶 Being this lyrically offensive aside, there is just enough catchy beats to avoid a complete dumpster score. 🗑️🐕 Hit the Thumbs Up icon below if you enjoyed my hot take on the album :)
Not bad, but not something I'd really want to listen to again.
I enjoyed this back in the day but like all rap of this era it’s aged badly. The beats are great and the flow is catchy but the lyrical content is terrible.
Klassisk US 90er mysogonisk Hip-Hop. Meget sigende at ingen af de kvindelige bidrag får en feat. i titlen. Alle de mandlige gør. Musikmæssigt så er det kun de to første singler og Gz & Hustlarz der står ud. Resten er Serial Fillard
an important hip-hop album, but not my thing - extra star for Gin&Juice though
Kind of boring & definitely misogynistic
Most songs are really very boring, nothing's happening. However, since I am not into hiphop, it was a bit better than expected (not much). The Shiznit and Gz and Hustlas are the best songs.
His name snoop d o double g Not bad
More lyrics about having one's balls licked than any other album (so far).
It's a paradox: you can focus on the groove to ignore the offensive lyrics, but if you focus on the groove you'll just go put on a Parliament album.
Not my cup of coffee
I listened to this years ago, in a car, with the windows open. Clearly, I missed a lot of the lyrics then. Let's just say this album isn't my jam, but it's got some nice beats and I can appreciate it. Gin & Juice is classic, and who doesn't like Snoop Dogg's voice? And, the vocal bits Warren G. contributed remind me how smooth his voice is. It surprised me to realize that this came out in 1993! Were they on the cutting edge with words like “be-otch” and “swole” because I don't think I noticed those in the common lexicon until almost 20 years later.
Fattar fortfarande inte old school hiphop
Dre’s production is good but snoop kind of sucks on this? Pretty forgettable.
Not my type of album, skipped through most of it after the first 5 songs
some good stuff
Doggy Style gets off to a strong start but starts to fade after a few songs. Lodi Dodi is just plain stupid. Next few cuts are very similar and run long. Picks up again with Ain’t No Fun and from there to a decent finish. The bits at the start or between songs are generally lame and annoying. That said, the album holds up with some listenable music and groundbreaking rap. L = (2.2*s) J = (2.2*s)
I'm sorry. I tried.
I'm afraid snoop is lost on me. I just don't feel it
The music is great, but the lyrics are just immature and so bad. I have no respect for the misogynistic attitude and the crude and vulgar lyrics. This could have been such a great album.
2/5. Not a huge fan of Snoops music, though I like his cameos on other artists' tracks.
Was a good album but didn't have much time to listen to it carefully but I appreciate some songs but I didn't succeed to get into it.
The actual songs sound nice but the lyrics and the skits are just cringe, which is a problem I have with a lot of hiphop albums from this time period. Ain't No Fun is complete garbage
Couple of good songs on here but nothing special
Sounds like a GTA radio station. I always did switch to Vinewood Boulevard Radio though…
While I don't listen to rap a lot some songs on this album are classics I couldn't have missed even if I wanted to. A lot of the songs I don't recognize are noticeably worse though. As I have said on other rap albums, me not having English as my first language makes the barrier to entry bigger since the song has to have a great beat/hook for me to give it enough time/chances to learn the lyrics and understand the deeper message that is often there in rap/hip hop.
29/1001 - Enough with the sex skits. That being said, the beats weren't bad (though a couple sounded like Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg which threw me off and the "Funky Worm" (moog saw-wave with some glide) is quite irritating). Just got to the end of "Murder Was the Case". Going down a point for that high-pitched tinnitus crap.
Musically, this album is pretty dope. It's such a great summer vibe, it's hard not to sway and nod. Lyrically, though... sigh. Like, I get why he became a star. He's got a unique flow and he's clever. But the misogyny is tiring. And I can see doing one song about partying, but damn a whole album?
This was an album I remember hearing constantly for a period in the Sophomore dorms at college. So there's some nostalgia there. Hard to deny Snoop's style and Dre's production. Incredibly dumb lyrics, though.
Who am I mi je poluzabavna, ovo drugo meh. Ono što, pak, ne mogu podnijeti kod ovog žanra je ta odvratna seksualizacija, to neću nikad shvatiti. Isto vrijedi i za neke druge žanrove, daleko od toga, ali zato ni te ne slušam. 2/5, 3/10
Mix of epic and cringe, 2.5/5 for me (rounded down to 2)
I enjoyed the beach, however subject matter, and the lyrics have much to be desired.
Production is funky as, musically this as interesting as any of the hip hop I've heard across 700+ albums of this challenge. But, maaaan... the lyrics... even if they're tongue in cheek I just... can't. And that's the most generous interpretation. At worst? Well...
3/10, don't care for it
Listened to snippets but not my taste even though I wanted to like it.
While I enjoy Snoop, the entertainer, and this early music was epic, it sounds so immature to me. A couple of classic songs with great lyrics and good beats - but all of the “b*****s”, ho’s, and “n****s” is just too much for me.

Another Gangsta-Rap. Where is the difference.
Not realy the kind of rap that works for me. 2 stars
Found this pretty locked in the past, repetitive, boring.
:/
Good beats, good flow. It's just a shame that Snoop Dogg raps about three things in general: smoking weed, being sexist, and chilling with his homies. I guess the informality of it just being a sesh with your homies could be the strength of the album, but it is not a friend group I'd like to be a part of.
great samples & beats, but embarrassingly aged lyrics. Used to love it , but it's horribly outdated now. truly, truly AWFUL cover. 2.5
This album had a couple cool beats, but uninteresting rapping overall.
Does break my heart a bit to give this a low score, but I've never really liked the tone of this album. It's almost cartoonishly misogynistic and gross in a way that pushes it way over the line for me. I am usually not a prude, but god it just gets hard to listen to after the halfway point... On the plus side, Snoop Dogg is an entertaining character when he's not going in detail about how much he fornicates. If you can get past that more than I, it's a fairly laid-back West Coast rap record that reminds you of hip-hop's golden age. "What's My Name" is mostly absent of the tropes that made this album a slog to get through for me and it's really good. 5/10
It was ok, though not really my thing.
I understand why this album is "on the list" but it's not my flavour of music.
So misogynistic. Just can’t get past it. Hard to believe he has become America’s sweetheart.
Sigh. This would be fun if it wasn’t so disgusting.
I didn't really get this one. Was super disgusting at times, and the hits didn't feel like hits to me.
I've fallen out of love a bit with the 'let's take a sample of an already great song and put some vocals over it' approach to music at the moment. This was good as background and probably sounded great at the time, but for me it hasn't aged that well.
This hasn't aged well. Had to bail because of the shitty lyrics.
HipHop, 1993 -> 2
Fav songs: G Funk Intro, Murder Was The Case, Gz and Hustlas
I struggled with this one a bit, musically it was good but lyrically it was dated and I got bored with it half way through. Not bad but nothing spectacular, though Snoop Dogg would b e a coo! person to hang out with.
Pretty cool production and backing music, but Snoop's lyrics and cadence becomes fairly repetitive and redundant after a handful of tracks
The music is better than the lyrics but I think really you probably need to be a fan of this music to appreciate this album.
I never pay attention to lyrics in songs so I often find rap kind of boring but I like this to zone out to Probs won't listen again
I liked this but by the time I got halfway through the album, it all seemed to blend together
Crass, obnoxious but enjoyable in its pure absurdity. Snoop Dogg is a total caricature and, for better or for worse, you can’t ignore the bastard. This record is a bit too mundane for me, but ocassionally it caught me off guard with just how much it leans into its ridiculousness. Once that wears off, there’s not a lot here - just dated hip-hop employing the full gambit of genre tropes - but it’s a far from awful record.
cool beats & music but so crass and stupid, i know that’s why people like it but not me
All the misogyny and violence and drug references. Not for me, but appreciate the g-funk. Music good, lyrics very not.
I didn't really get it.
Sicher ein wegweisendes Album, aber mir zu gleichförmig. Ein Lied gehört, alles gehört
Definitely seems like a product of its time. I don’t think it’s something I would put on again but I can understand the importance of this record at the time. I like serial killa, but as for the rest of the songs, yes I know his name is snoop dog, congratulations, it does not feel like a valuable lyric to be placed across the whole album constantly . Can say I am not a huge snoop fan
I enjoyed the upbeat of this gangsta rap, which is not typical for me since usually, the themes highlight more to my ears than the music, but the outdated lyrics hit hard on me this time, so I can't rate it with more than 3 stars. I know that this kind of album should be respected for its historical importance, but it's something that I will hardly listen to again (fully, at least) in the years coming due to its lyrics.
Not aged well this album 2/5
Not my kind of hip-hop. Too much misogynistic stuff
2-3
i dunno, man, i just don't really care about snoop. like, i get that this was a big deal, i guess, in its day and all, but...i just don't care, know what i mean?
I won't deny that the rhythm in these songs is catchy, but I have a problem with all the niggas here and niggas there, and the drugs, bitches and weed lyrics that just keep coming out of the speakers. Specially seeing how awful the situation is in the US for black people, I definitely think this music only adds to the problem. Kids listen to this shit and think "Hey, I finna be a nigga like Snoop!" next thing you know they're getting shot in the streets for holding. Some things in the world are just not necessary. I think, honestly, that gansta nigga rap is one of them. We enjoy it because it's dirty and foul, because he's singing about all the women he nuts in, all the bitches he gets on his dick. I honestly think our society doesn't need this.
Well - pretty much what I expected, typical sexist/racist/lurid hip hop. Somehow bits of it were slightly listenable.
Like a lot of this era’s rap it hasn’t aged incredibly well. The beats are pretty good. I’m on the fence as to whether I like Snoop’s voice.
bof 2/5
Nope
Für Rap unterhaltsam, aber nicht meine Musik 2/5
Listening to this brought back memories but man, it also re-cemented my dislike for West Coast rap. The album itself is incredibly creative and playful, with Dogg just providing his chill vocals and smooth lyrics to a very unserious album. A different time, a different place for this kind of subject matter.
Some good parts but generally not enjoyable
Musically it's a pretty groovy record, and despite of the early 1990s release, it doesn't sound dated at all. These are the positives about the record. Well, the negatives outweigh the positives, since the lyrics are awful (lot of swearing, mysognistic lyrics) and overall it's a bit repetitive and same-y. I'd round it up at least for a 3 if not for the lyrics, but it's just a 2.
If you ignore ALL of the lyrics it gets some points for a good beat and general entertainment. Overall pretty repetitive....we won't get into the misogyny
Really not my thing, but had some fun with it. Made me nostalgic for GTA San Andreas. 2-2.5
I like snoop’s voice and flow - but the lyrics are hard to get over ..
Why are all these “groundbreaking” rap albums made at the expense of women. I’m just over it.
Meh….🤷🏻♀️
Best I can say is it's better than Eminem so 2 stars or D-.
Snoop Dogg has great cadence and charisma that’s for sure, but for me it doesn’t change the fact that the G-Funk sound isn’t all that hard hitting for me. For me, mid-90s rap was being led by the south, with acts like OutKast from Atlanta pushing much better storytelling into their songs than I got here from Snoop. Beats are cool but that can also be seen done better elsewhere. I have always just felt Snoop Dogg is at his best as a feature on Dr Dre songs, where the production punches harder.
Honestly as much as Snoop is an absolute legend, I found I didn’t really enjoy this album. Instrumentals were funky and tight as anything which I did enjoy. Snoop is an absolutely awesome dude but I’m not too keen on his stuff, and to be completely honest most rap in general. I hope that I’ll find some rap stuff within these 1100 or so albums that I can enjoy. 4.5/10
2/13, 15%
A little too much misogyny here for me.
It flows but it all flows in the same way which makes it pretty repetitive. Medium 2.
Juvenile
Monumental upon its' release, the debut from Snoop offers very little in 2024. Add on the low brow lyrics and skits, and this one is a drag to get through.
I didn't really connect with this. I knew a few tracks and there's some catchy ones but on the whole it felt a bit silly and talking about smoking, pussy and being a dogg.
Man I wish I liked this album. I truly do. It has great instrumentals and Snoop’s flow is good. It’s just so sexist and juvenile. They constantly refer to women as bitches and hoes and demean them. Now, don’t get me wrong I like a fair bit of sex in my rap songs. And I can take some sexism in the music if the album is a bit older (hell, I enjoyed the album in which Eminem killed his wife). But on seemingly every song? No. And this album is so immature. There’s literal sounds of pissing on the album (that play into a song about drinking, mind you) Eww no gross. 2.5/5 for the cool instrumentals, not for anything else
Tried to listen—too foul for me. Did listen to Gin and Juice as it was listed as Snoop Digg’s most popular. Based my two on that.
G-Funk was just never my thing. Gangsta rap, old-school hip-hop, etc are all much better.
Between this and OutKast, I’m just getting the confirmation that this genre isn’t for me! But I did enjoy this more than OutKast so that’s something!
It's a bit of fun but to be honest the greatest thing ever. A lot to do with Snoop's personality rather than the music I don't dislike it but it becomes boring after a couple of tracks.
Not my jam
not my style
Never realized just how thoroughly snoop dogg has explored the sexual implications of his stage name
Musicalement intéressant mais les lyrics m'ont turn off très très fort.
Just couldn't really stick this one out
3, but rounding down for the worst album art in music history
Like other reviews, I very much enjoyed the music here but just can’t endorse lyrics that boast about violence against women. Hopefully Martha Stewart skipped this one.
Pretty standard Snoop Dogg. Gin & Juice is classic. Who am I is the one that sounds like Atomic Dog (George Clinton). Good album musically, but a little repetitive, most songs not landing for me.
Another "it wasn't as bad as I expected" album. I was surprised to like the rhythm of The Shiznit. "Ain't No Fun" felt like a cool R&B song (if I ignore a lot of the lyrics). Still, it's definitely not my kind of music and I would never choose to listen to Snoop.
Honestly, too much for me. I am not a fan of this genre general and this one was over the top vulgar. 2/5 won't be back
I realize Snoop's debut album is considered by some as one of most important hip-hop/rap records for it's lyrical "realism" and for it's social-eco lifestyles. The problem is about Snoop's obsession with his dick and his bitches that "service" him who get treated like shit, is not my concern (or interest) and it gets tired very very quickly. I get it, rap is suppose to be about the power of men over women, black over white, chilling with their homies and shooting up shit cause their gangstas, but as far as my musical preferences, music heroes and social conscience go, Snoop is humping the f*cking wrong tree with me.
Not a huge fan, lacks a theme. Some songs are good but not very consistent
so, i’m in a conundrum. i really like his voice and flow, it’s chill and cool and the beats on top of that just make it sound so good. but then the lyrics are just the worst. just like all them old white guys being sexist and gross as hell, his over use of nigga and bitch really throws me off. maybe it’s cause i’m a black woman, but it just makes it hard for me to enjoy, and for that reason, it’s gonna be a low score from me tbh.
If you didn't expect this kid to grow up to make cheesy Corona commercials and reality shows, you weren't paying attention. 🍺🍺
I wonder how long (if ever) it will be before the B word is as toxic as the N word? I just don't get the ongoing double standard. But on the other hand this has a great sound and flow? Nup sorry Snoop, 2 for you.
Took the doggy theme a bit too far and the kept going
Grating mysogyny and shit bants occasionally accompanied by some decent funk/beats. It ain’t all that let’s face it.
Appreciate this is a serious gangsta record but just too funny for me to take seriously bitches. Love snoop but won't listen to it again.... probably.
An album that's all over the place. Flows quite well often, but lyrically it's all over the place, between having a nod at Biggy lyrics to plain misogyny, glorification of violence and lyrics that almost seem to parody itself. I'd easily give it 4 if it wasn't for the lyrics.
Has two good songs. The Chronic is much much better.
61/1001 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
I like some Rap (less gangsta), and the mainstream hits for sure. “Gin & Juice” holds up. I’m out on the rest of this, too repetitive and grating with all the language. I’m giving it a 2 just because I know it was relevant to the time. He does have the cool factor working for him, he would be fun to hang with, and somehow he was able to create a persona and strike a chord enough to enable himself make millions of dollars by smoking weed and partying his entire life. For those reasons, I ain’t mad at ‘em.
babbling on my way to my sleeping cavity, im where incandescent pain and cold rain meet muted humanity. the scenery is quite a catastrophe, but the rock wont show no cold shoulder, an affirming hilarity. nothing funny about it, but i needed the laugh. something to hold on to when i feel like im trapped. when the pest inside my brain acts like a runaway train and smashes through my parade while my secrets unwrap. its all there, it always has been. but nobody will know, im a never has been. why is he saying such nasty stuff about women?? anyway, quite an uhhh eclectic listen. synths sound kinda outdated though
A little over the top with the stereotype gangster crap. Not entirely my cup of tea.
Nope. Not a fan of this one.
Album 353 of 1001 Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle Rating : 2 / 5 Don't really know where to do with this one. While I like Snoop as a personality and recognize his talent, I just can't fully support something that I feel brought nothing but negativity onto our nations youth. Hate to sound like a prude, but it is what it is. A fine album for someone mature but it is just one of many that brings nothing positive and a whole lot of negative to those who aren't (some adults included). Felt that way about a couple of earlier ones but didn't express it. To think people were complaining about Elvis. They had no idea of what was down the road.
Time is a goon. I guess the main reason why I took so violently against this album way back then was because, you know, Side A of The Chronic. This was hopelessly overhyped, overwhelmed by Mr Dogg’s murder trial, and smothered by the Death Row Records publicity. Anyway. I caught myself foot tapping and head nodding to this. Familiarity is a thing, even if it is the familiarity of deep dislike. Or maybe I’ve finally caught up with Mr Dogg’s elusive charms..
Don't usually like rap with the tedious swearing, misogyny, usually boring background and lyrics designed for men emotionally stuck at age 13. This album is redeemed by having real music in the background, a bit of humor, catchy funk music. I'll never listen to this again, but I'll give it a star or two.
Gin and Juice is a classic, the rest is just okay
Ugh. In 2024, nah.
I mean I know it’s literally in his name and the title of this album but he compares himself to a dog too many times.
I know this was an important album. I really enjoyed the beats and the sound of Snoop's voice. But boy howdy these lyrics... Relevance to this list: 4/5 Personal Enjoyment 2/5
Childish.
"For little kids growing up in the ghettos," he said, "it's easy to get into the wrong types of things, especially gangbanging and selling drugs. I've seen what that was like, and I don't glorify it, but I don't preach. I bring it to them rather than have them go find out about it for themselves." Nope, Snoop. You missed the mark on this 1000% I am torn on this album because the musicality and Snoops vocal style is phenomenal. I love the tonality, playfulness, and unpredictability of his rhythms. Based on that alone this album would be a 5. However, the lyrics the lyrics the lyrics. Ughhhh why? Misogynistic, overly sexual, and violent. I have to knock several rating points off for that.
A fun and funky record but it feels very juvenile due to the lyrics. The number of times talking about dicks and balls and bitches is a little much. I don't think I'd ever listen to this record again because the lyrics are just so bad. It's ironic too because today is international women's day hahaha.
Doesn’t hold up that well. Some beats are a bit wack
Not my style of music.
great beats and instrumentals, the lyrics ruin it though
I like Snoop fine enough as a sideman or secondary artist, but I personally don't think his delivery lends the best to a full album experience, especially since few of the guests really elevate the material. I also think that, with the exception of three or four songs, Dre's production here is a bit stagnant compared to The Chronic. My biggest gripe with this album, however, is that the humor and sexism have really not aged well. I know some people have had this complaint about other old-school hip-hop albums we've gotten, but I find this to be much more egregious than something like N.W.A, personally. 2.5/5
Fine but not the kind of music I tend to like Also there’s too many explicit sexual references for my taste
Between the overplayed nature of some songs, a lot of it not aging super well, and the non-singles being pretty weak I’m surprisingly giving this a low rating.
Honestly didnt like it much
What wonderfully silly album art. Unless it's been cancelled, then whatever... The music and skits? Also had a fun energy about them that didn't seem to take itself as serious as some other rap albums may tend to do. "Ain't no fun" is a perfect example, then there are other sprinkles of levity like Pic-a-nic casket, etc. Snoop obviously has made a good career so is doing something right, so I respect that. It just isn't for me, although I think the "what's my name" track is pretty good. Favorite track "what's my name" 2/5
Gleda meg litt til Snoop Lion, men va kje den høydaren eg forventa meg
Rating: 2.4
I like Tha Shiznit! But the rest of the album surprisingly didn't catch my ear. Sort of disappointed, given that Snoop Dogg is one of the OGs of hip hop.
Disappointing really.
geinig maar meer ook niet.
Waanzinnig gedateerd, zowel qua lyrics als productie. Best veel dezelfde truukjes en het wordt niet beter als je het harder zet.
Too hard to understand
No thanks
I can see why this album is important and how it could be on someone's list of favorites, but didn't do much for me. My review is a little jaded however because this simply wasn't what I wanted to hear today. I knew what I was getting myself into but it definitely lacked substance. On the positive, though. I do like Snoop Doggs vocals and delivery and liked the inclusion of Dr. Dre in places. Maybe I'll give more attention to this on another day.
Loved the beats and his cadence. Could not get over the misogyny and cringy lyrics.
Hey, remember when Snoop Dogg was considered "edgy" because he was gangsta? Guess what? That was 30 years ago. I'd like to try to dismiss some of these songs by saying "eh, it was 30 years ago." But there was good music that wasn't so... hateful towards women. I like Snoop's lyrical flow, the way his voice sounds so casual. The keyboard effects over the songs, great. But the lyrics he and the other people spit out... it got to be too much. It was too embarrassing to listen to. I'm wavering between a 2 and a 3. And I want to give it the benefit of the doubt, some of the songs were something big at one time. But... I just can't. In the 21st century, it's too hard to do.
Not for me
five minuts are good, fiftythree too long
I hated all the white boys that loved this back in '93. It was a rock solid metric to weed out frat douchery. And it's another album that wallows in the violence/misogyny thing that I just haven't been able to get into. That said, the samples are pretty good. And that part in Who Am I where Snoop tells you that your woman likes him more because he's got the biggest nuts? Poetry.
not for me
2/5 nope
Hip Hop is nothing for me. The album itself is a little bit more melodic so I will give it a 2/5. Did not like it.
I wanted to like this but it didn't do much for me at all.
Of its time, to many expletives and very derogatory towards women. Not a classic.
Surprisingly good music with Dogg shit for lyrics
Did not like at all at first, but got into the rhythm after a couple of cuts. Glad I listened but doubt that I’ll go back for more.
I can easily see the appeal, and understand the impact on our culture, but the language is just not for me.
