Reviews (page 9 of 11)

It’s a stoner song cycle for the ages. It’s why Hip-Hop blew up. So infectious it moved out of the LBC into every suburb in America. The production is slick. The flow is unmatched. The ear worms are contagious. The skits are silly. The misogyny is indefensible. No wonder Snoop Dogg became a household name. “Gin and Juice” deserved the millions of bumps it got from car stereos that year and every year since. It’s a bonafide gangsta party classic. Listening to the menacing “Murder Was the Case” is still chilling, especially considering Snoop’s actual life circumstances at the time. Funny enough, when you listen closely to a track like “Lodi Dodi,” Snoop actually comes off more like a diva than a hard core street tough. No insult intended. It’s a role he embraces—lover not fighter, rap battler not rep enforcer. Martha Stewart was his destiny it seems. But most of the time Snoop is happy to play the ultimate crown jester of G funk on his debut—mostly bark though his flow always bites.

It’s a shame that what is a landmark album for hip hop is full of problematic material. The beats are nice, the features nice and Snoop’s Flow is impeccable. If it was all Murder was the Case instead of Gs up hos down…

Terrible cover art but it was listenable.

Snoop is unquestionably a generational star, but he isn't one of the greatest wordsmiths. Dre's producing does a lot to carry this album, which is decent, if a little misogynistic for modern times. Favorite track was Gz and hustlers

Fun to half listen to, sounds great, gets you moving; Snoop is a lot of fun. Listen too carefully though and yeesh.

Some songs were good, some were not. But not a bad album.

A well defined sound and schtick. Some people love this fo shiz-rizzle. I think it has minor appeal, but gets old very quickly.

So puerile and gross and stupid at times, but Snoop has an undeniable flair for clever cheeky rhymes, and catchy melody and harmony. And man, this took me back to 1993.

I like snoop dogg 3.8

"Doggystyle" by Snoop Dogg, released in 1993, is an iconic debut that solidified Snoop's status in the rap world. With Dr. Dre's production shaping its sonic landscape, the album became synonymous with West Coast hip-hop. Featuring hits like "Gin and Juice" and "Who Am I (What's My Name)?," the album exudes a laid-back vibe with Snoop's distinctive flow. While undeniably influential, "Doggystyle" doesn't escape some criticisms for its explicit content and occasional lack of lyrical depth. Scoring a balanced 3/5, the album remains a classic in the genre, capturing a moment in hip-hop history. However, some might find its lyrical themes and production style somewhat dated compared to contemporary standards.

Yikes. The lyrics are crude as hell and embarrassing at times. I wonder what Snoop says about his young self, given his old self is a bit more reformed. But it's not much different than Eminem - can you put aside the abrasiveness of the lyrics to evaluate how clever they're put together or how well they're delivered? Snoop has always been smooth and his pace is unmatched here. The beats from Dre are very good and that funky style is perfect for Snoop's vocal style. But his lyrics are underwhelming. I don't find them clever as much as I find them arrogant, as if he's the baddest (or only) gangsta rapper that ever lived and he's trying to convince everyone of it. Yeah yeah, he passes women around like they're joints, and he passes joints too. Oh and he puts a cap in anyone who tries to step. It all gets tired. And I couldn't care for any of his interludes - unnecessarily crude drivel. I love the sound some of the time but I found myself bored on second listen. There are better rap albums.

Snoop is a legend, and I love him as a larger than life personality. Motherfucker is so cool. But I'm not a hip hop fan, this was never my music of choice. Gin and Juice is a classic, but I can't stand all the ridiculous skits and spoken interludes. The women speaking seductively, and groaning over the top is so cringe. This album cover is awful, so juvenile. 3 stars for Snoop being cool and all, but that's as generous as I can be.

Obviously a groundbreaking hip-hop album but just not for me. I like the Parliament Funkadelic samples...Some good beats and iconic songs but overly crass for no need at times. 6.0/10 (3/5)

I liked it fine enough but there it deserves credit for how it made me, a degreed homeowner and parent who was 8 when it was released, feel like I am getting away with something I shouldn’t over three decades later.

Underhållande album. Bra låtar. Bra hooks. Bra beats.

The misogyny posturing is off-putting - but this is a good rap album, no? I am automatically well-disposed to anyone who leads off with a Curtis Mayfield sample, and there's a whole bunch of Parliament peppered about the rest of the album. Snoop isn't the greatest rapper but he's a good ringleader. Dr Dre has done a sterling production job. 'Who Am I?' and 'Gz and Hustlas' are top drawer.

There are albums you know because you listened to them, and then there are albums you know because you listened to them in your friend’s car. This is one of those. I can’t hate the thing. But what’s more fun is this: go look up Snoop and Kevin Hart doing commentary on horse dressage during the last Olympics. That made me laugh. This album just kinda makes me grin.

This album cover radiates early 90's and I love it. I am enjoying the transitions/interludes on this one. Beats and flow are on point. Not entirely my taste, but I enjoyed this for the most part. The earlier part of the album had more sticking power than the back half. This is a 3.5 that could go either way, but because I don't feel like I'll come back to this one, I'm gonna round down.

Definitely interesting. Rap is definitely not my style but its funky.

It's not bad, but one thing I don't understand is why these rap albums are all so long.

Impressive for a debut album - some filler and not much stood out to me beyond the hits

Considering concealed carry laws and legalisation of pot the stuff Snoop sings about don't seem quite so gangsta anymore, just every day life. Was a kinda cool album, still completely inappropriate in places but I respect that he doubles down and doesn't apologise for that

Was OK, some good songs I knew but a lot of filler

There's a 5 star album hiding in amongst all this However, the skits drag this album down so much, its quite annoying, i think some of the tracks, vocals etc on this album are outstanding. But, any time you let your guard down, you get bored by one of these unfunny skits, no punchlines, just boring garbage. It's a real shame Ain't No Fun, Gin n' Juice, Who Am I, all top songs, 5 star songs. It's a real shame from a 5, to a very high 3. Shame

Not an album I’d listen to cover to cover. Appreciated what ground it did break.

A little bit misogynistic …

Enjoyed listening to most songs, lyrics so recognisable throughout other music and genres.

It thumps, sure. The lyrics can be a bit much.

Wholesome fun

I am not one to tell folks what albums they should enjoy, and while I can recognize Doggystyle as influential to the G-funk genre, and Snoop Doggy Dogg's career in particular, it was not something I would want to listen to more than once, unless there happened to be an instrumental version. Love Dre's production, and the performance of the musicians on the track, but the lyrical subject matter is not interesting to me at all. And I get it. I was not and am not the audience intended for this album.

Largely inoffensive to the ears

HATED this the first couple times I heard it. (1/5) Now, I'm thinking I might have been harsh... This is pretty good. :) (This is me eating crow).... I Still HATE those little snippets between songs... They are ignorant and horrible. Gz and Hustlas reminds me a bit of someting you'd hear from Slick Rick (from Adventure's of Slick Rick). :) Standouts: Gin and Juice, G Funk Intro, Who Am I (What's My Name), Tha Shiznit, Gz and Hustlas. 3.5

Another artist I’ve only ever listened to the hits, though I knew this one was very influential as his first. Production is great, flow is solid. That said, there’s nothing here for me.

I have to say that I find the gangsta braggadoccio and some of the misogyni in the lyrics stupid and bordering towards irritating. With that said Snoops laidback flow is a style of rap i do like, and the production is excellent. Most tunes are catchy like good popmusic, and listening to the record in Dolby Atmos on Tidal with a good headset is a sonic treat.

Walked around Edgewood while listening. Not as good as I'd hoped and bummed by the language and misogyny. But could have been worse.

I feel the snoop tracks are a lot stronger than the rest of the tracks

Style is unique but themes are repetitive (smoking weed and sex with women) it's not all that great as an overall album.

It's decent music. The intended audience is definitely not me, so I can't appreciate the lyrics. The tracks are pretty hit-or-miss, particularly with regard to the backing instrumentals. Tracks like Gin and Juice, Ain't No Fun, and Gz and Hustlas are seriously catchy because of their intoxicating riffs, varied rhythm, and non-monotonicity. Some tracks, like the opening Bathtub, are acceptable as skits but clearly not relistenable. Most of the remaining songs are fine but pretty uninteresting and repetitive, especially compared to the incredible rock, folk, and post-prog music being released around the same time. Snoop Dogg is, as his lyrics demonstrate, pretty narcissistic. It alienates me even further from the already uninspiring lyrics. 5/10

good rap sound, definitely remember a few of the songs. I liked it other than crass language.

This was fine. It was definitely nostalgic, but I can't handle 53 minutes of Snoop on a regular basis.

Always an enjoyable album

I like the musicality and sound but hate the lyrics.

Standard issue So Cal party/lowrider album. A classic. The only standouts for me were the singles: Gin & Juice, etc. The skits were extremely annoying.

This is not the best hip-hop opinion, but I consider Snoop Dogg highly overrated. He is very famous for many reasons, but lately music is not even in the top 3. This album has great songs and put him up in the position of King of G-Funk. With the later appearance of Kendrick Lamar, he can not enjoy that title anymore. "Doggystyle" aged like milk for several reasons. First thing comes to mind is how cringe the intros of the songs became. They are not even included as interludes, like other rappers already did in this era. They should remaster the album and change that, because I could not bear the embarrassment of being handed the aux and have Snoop yapping about bullshit only a weed-numbed brain like his could produce. Nate Dogg, Warren G, Dr. Dre productions... This album is star-studded and it shows it is important. Sadly, it is getting stale as a whole despite a couple stand-out tracks.

Wasn't unimpressed.

Enjoyed more than I thought I would

Un album plutôt sympa, dommage que fumer des joints ne soit plus cool passé le lycée, Snoop Dogg aurait été sacrément populaire.

C'était pas trop désagréable, et j'en suis le premier surpris.

Some obvious classics, Who Am I?(What's My Name), Gin and Juice, Tha Shiznit etc A lot of the dumber/sexist stuff obviously the work of a 21 year old and I'm not sure this record would fly in 2023 and I don't think that's particularly woke because it's a very sexist record. It was funnier 30 years ago when I was a 13 year old boy, not so much now. Obviously great production from Dee Barnes' violent attacker. Still, a decent album with some painfully unfunny and completely unnecessary skits.

Much better than I was expecting! I wasn’t happy to see rap at first. But the time flew listing and it was funkier than I was expecting. Would def listen again!

catchy and stupid 3.4

Fun to see the break out of Snoop! Love the beats.

pretty good but nothing unexpected

Definitely a landmark G-funk record. The production is uniformly excellent, and Snoop's verses entertain and hold my attention. His flow is always great, but The Lady of Rage features are my favorite part. Some of the misogyny on this record is a little startling (although it is a 90s rap album) and I could really do without some of the skits.

I hadn’t heard this album before but hire enjoyed it. I get a bit fed up with the gangsta language and nonsense between tracks but on the whole thought this was quite a fun album. I enjoy doggystyle ;-)

This had a couple of ok tracks and the rapping has some good flow, but the misogynistic gangsta lyrics ended up being a bit irritating and lame with the full listen through. It's a classic and an album of its time, but not one I'd listen to again (apart from the classics Gin and Juice and Whats my name) Fave Track: Gin and Juice

Fun album, but one I used to enjoy more when I was younger. Gin & Juice is a classic, but Doggy Dogg World is my favorite.

You are now listening to WBALLS. I wouldn’t be able to record this album without laughing my ass off. Just can’t take the background stuff seriously. “Gin and Juice” is such a hit. I really didn’t want to like this album for the stunt Snoop pulled by saying he was going to quit smoking for his health. However, the beats in so many of these songs are dope. The beats do start getting a little old after while. “For all my N*ggaz & Bitches” was straight trash. Snoop isn’t one of my favorite rappers. He does have some good songs and sometimes he makes me laugh. The shallowness of this music hurts my soul though. You wouldn’t catch me listening to this music anymore. Especially in public. 5/10

Snoop’s flow is addictive. The beats are great, especially when compared to the other rap artists we have gotten on this platform. They are simple and repetitive but they do such a fantastic job elevating Snoop’s verses. In terms of lyrics, can’t relate to anything and a lot of it comes across jokey. I guess I am just not a fat G dawg bow bow mother fucka biatch. This isn’t a huge issue as the beats and Snoop’s flow carry this album for the majority of its runtime. I enjoyed it but I did get fatigued during the second half. 6/10

Catchy but superficial

Some gangster shit with some funky basslines

One of the classic west coast gangsta rap albums, Snoop Dogg’s debut album Doggystyle showcases his smooth flow and distinctive voice over the funky beats produced by Dr. Dre. The album is not quite up to the same standard as Dre’s The Chronic, but it is still a landmark in hip-hop history. The album features some of the most memorable tracks of the genre, such as Gin and Juice, Who Am I (What’s My Name)?, and Murder Was the Case. However, the album also suffers from some of the common flaws of 90s rap albums, such as outdated and misogynistic lyrics, and cringey and unnecessary skits. Some of the songs are hard to listen to in the present day, as they glorify violence, drugs, and sexism. Overall, I believe this album is worth a listen and should be appreciated for its historical and musical significance and its beats that still sound fresh 30 years on, but it should also be critically challenged for some of its problematic messages. I give it 3 stars out of 5

Fun to listen

It’s fine. The hits are great, and Dre’s production is delightful, as always. Doesn’t deserve to be so popular, though deserve has nothing to do with it.

Gear: Aür Audio Aurora Artwork: 🐩🍑🤢 Production: 🎛️💉✅ Music: ⏳💰📺 Wertung: 🦴🦴🦴/5

Not a fan of the genre by any stretch, but for some reason I have a soft spot for Snoop Dogg. BTW, if you have a chance, check out the Gourds cover of Gin and Juice. It's alternative country/bluegrass but it's so good. 3 stars.

It’s snoop dogg

It's pretty mid nothing special

Really good by Snoop standards, but I'm eh about him so that standard is mid

not gonna revisit this

I liked the flow between songs, but the album was about twice the length it needed to be. Also, misogyny is not cool.

surprisingly good. Snoop doggs flow is legendary and the beats were actually banger. A G-funk classic.

Freakin classic but doesn’t hold up.

Perinteistä west coast G-funkki soundia. Ihan jees kuunneltava, mutta ei varmaan paras niistä

Not really my vibe but you can hear that the artists are having fun and it's a smooth listening experience

Snoop is Snoop and not much has to be said about that. This album is solid but definitely feels dated. You can tell there was a real passion for this album with a lot of variety in voices and beats but sometimes that made it feel more like a student project than a real album.

I might be wrong, but it makes sense to me that this album helped define the West Coast sound. Feels very much like a GTA tracklist. I'm not big into rap, though, but this was good enough.

Essential Tracks: Gin and Juice (Playlist)

There are some amazing, classic rap songs on this albums Gz and Hustlas, Gin and Juice, Who Am I (What’s My Name). This album hits him different as an adult and I didn’t like the language towards women. It shows how far we’ve come since 1993.

Not his best work. A few catchy tunes.

Skriiiiiker 90-tallet, på en bra måte! Flyter bra, og Snoop har utvilsomt en ganske digg stemme. Litt vel mye misogyni, kanskje. Generelt litt småkleine tekster her og der.

Nice to hear the songs that influenced other songs.

Some well known tracks, but not for me anymore.

Hot and miss

I mostly know Snoop Dogg from Gorrilaz and I guess his biggest hits. To me the misogyny mostly feels tongue firmly in cheek but that doesn't make it ok. Fave track: Gin and Juice for the laid back vibe.

This must have been quite a revelation to hear at the time! Quite a big step up from old school hip-hop, and the sound has aged much better than a lot of albums from around this time. I find Snoop's misogyny much less grating than Dre's or Ice Cube's, for some reason. Not sure whether there's less of it, or it's just smoothed over somewhat by the g funk sound. Still not great, tho. 😒 I reckon this album was on track to get a 4 and then "Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)" came on and turned me back around. Fave track - "Murder Was The Case (DeathAfterVisualizingEternity)" was pretty novel - that and "Serial Killa" seem to have prefigured horrorcore, although a quick skim of wikipedia tells me that actually horrorcore has roots way earlier than this - neat!

Has one or two good songs, but overall its a very freshman album.

Stop with the sex scenes

Tough one to rate. It's a limited world and way of life that narrows the mind. 25 years later communities are paying the price. Maybe it's not as creative if you live that life and sing about it as it seems from the outside. Super creative and I'm looking at Snoop doing a corona ad. He may not be living that life anymore but too many are. And the doggy mothers are losing their children like someone else owns them.

Would have rated the album a 4 if it were not for the skits.

Surprisingly good. I like how to songs flow together.

Bathtub - 7/10 G Funk Intro - 8.5/10 Gin n Juice - 8.5/10 Tha Shiznit - 8.5/10 Lodi Dodi - 7.5/10 Murder was the Case - 8/10 Serial Killa - 8/10 Who am I - 7.5/10 For all my Niggaz & Bitchez - 7.5/10 Ain’t no Fun - 8/10 Doggy Dogg World - 7.5/10 Gz and Hustlas - 8/10 Pump Pump - 8/10 TOTAL - 102.5/130

Not for me, but a fine album for some I am sure.

hate the lyrics, love the flow.

Good beats and flow. Seems kinda old by today's standards. 3.4

Classic hits that I grew up in my late teenage years but not into the whole rap scene. Hit with a little nostalgia but skipped most of the tracks.

A few good tunes

Good '90s rap album, but sounds very similar to others. A bit repetitive. 6.5/10.

Snoop lol

Sorry, couldn’t get into it. Production value is awesome.

Are we as society ready to discuss the fact that Snoop Dogg is wildly overrated. Everything that’s great about this album is Dre. All snoop does its rap about bitches, weed and booze. It’s mediocre and best and we’d all have never heard of him if it wasn’t for Dre’s beats. 6.1/10

🅾️✅✴️✅🅾️🅾️✅✴️🅾️🅾️✅✅ Musicality: 3/5 Lyrics: 4/5 Track Diversity: 2/5 Production Quality: 4/5 Replay Value: 2/5 Enjoyment: 3/5 Average: 3/5 Best song on the album: gin n juice

Nice beats and some good rapping by snoop but he gets repetitive in my opinion. (66%)

Despite some of the crass humor, Doggy Style is a rare rap album that has aged fairly well. The misogyny isn't as front and center (and it more feels like posturing than anything else) and there aren't a lot of disparaging comments towards others. What surprised me is Snoop Dogg's trademark crooning voice is almost absent from this album - it's very early on in his career and it's clear he's still establishing his sound. I can see the influence, but I almost feel like the greatest influence here was on Snoop's career itself.

Hip-hop. Ni fu ni fa.

I found much of this album enjoyable. Snoop is clearly very skilled. This dragged on for me and got tiresome by the end, though.

Not as good as I hoped it would be. I'm gonna need a doggy bag for this shit (alright, it's not that bad)

Too fun to be this sexist 🥴

Nicer flow, Lyrics lame Chillige instrumentals 2,5/5

Hip-hop. Ni fu ni fa.

Rollo. Le pondré un 3 por las últimas canciones y las primeras. Pero por el medio aburría..

Not a fan of all that chatting and ‘non-music’ between tracks but otherwise some good stuff here. ‘The Shiznit’ and ‘Gs and Hustlas’ were the highlights.

My first Snoop album ever.....seemed like one continuous tube to me with some radio advertising thrown in. Take out the cussing and it's an instrumental album

classic

Ok thought I was gonna hate this but his delivery is so smooth and the (Dre) production is so slick. On the minus side tbe short in-between skits ate tiresome and the lyrics (though they seem a pastiche of themselves?) are wearing.

Snoops music is always fun, This walked the border of comedy music at some pointed and im not sure how to feel about that. I am actually a fan of some of snoops music but on this project I could really only find a handful of stand out moments. Not awful but not something that I think completely stood the test of time.

This album made me realise how incredible Arin Hanson's impression of Snoop was in that one Starbomb album.

Disclaimer: I listened to this album while rain was pouring heavily outside, so I couldn't understand a good chunk of the lyrics. That may have been a blessing in disguise, because the lyrics that I did hear were a lot of n-words, bitches, motherfuckers, and other forms of cringey, outdated stuff. Musically, though? This was great. Nineties hip-hop but with really catchy and rhythmic beats that leaned closer to R&B. If it was this with better lyrics it would've been a 5 or a high-4, but alas, it's a '90s hip-hop record. So ya know. Standout tracks are Gin & Juice, Lodi Dodi, Who Am I (What's My Name?), and Ain't No Fun.

Reasonably fun musically. Much less fun lyrically --- there's only so much talk of balls that I can comfortably tolerate.

The nasty cover suited the nasty songs. Gotta say I’m not in love with that aspect of this music. The lyrics were often terrible and the album cover a real turn-off. Still, I can say that I liked the sound of the music and Snoop Dogg’s rapping. Maybe I’m just relating to the more mature Snoop Dogg who hangs with Martha Stewart, but even with some pretty problematic lyrics it’s more tolerable and seems less mean-spirited than a lot of other 90s rap.

As far as rap music (not my preferred genre) goes, this was actually very listenable. Much smoother, mellower, funkier and massively less annoying than most rap I've heard. I'd even go as far as calling it quite enjoyable. Still rounding it down from 3.5 because the lyrics were just so damn stupid (when the content was even understandable, which was mostly not the case)

This was an unusual listen. For an album that was held up as an example of society going wrong in the 90s, it's somewhat innocent in places. It's easy to forget that this was a 19yo Snoop. With all the developments in rap over the next 30 years, it's almost sweet to hear him rap about how 'his momma ain't home', and how the most degrading thing a woman could do is 'lick his balls'. Despite this, it's obviously misogynist in a lot of places, and also incredibly repetitive. Almost every track has him explaining how he 'don't love them ho's'. When it works, it works brilliantly, and the production is absolute peak Dre...but once you've heard Gin and Juice and Murder Was The Case, do you really need the other tracks?

This was better than some of the other rap albums I've gotten but some of the lyrics are really dated and haven't aged well which makes it a tough listen to at points. Still the beats are nice and I enjoy that G-funk sound. 3.5/5

Track just goes. I’ll be interested to see if we get Dr. Dre’s album that Snoop built on for Doggystyle

Crass funny g west coast shit. Sort of the companion album to Dre’s The Chronic, and you could make the argument one or the other is on the list but they probably aught to both be. Interesting to listen right after Kendrick who is pretty much the 2010 embodiment

Great voice and rhythm. It would be 4 stars except for the excessive profanity.

Not quite as enjoyable as it was when I was 16 but still enjoyed some of the tracks

Not in the more serious hip-hop genre that I like, but it's an album of it's time when West Coast rappers started getting big money 💰

Decent album but wouldn't listen again

Nice beat, cool flow, many bitches. Still, wouldn't call it a best rap album, but I appreciate the experience.

The chronic 2 high highes but gets boring too fast

I appreciate this album for launching Snoop's career, but some of the skits are absolutely terrible.

Oh hey its the Great British Bake-off host! Solid hooks and beats. Wears out its welcome fairly quick.

Not bad, there were some decent bits to it

I really like West Coast 90s hip hop so this should definitely be my jam. Snoop Dogg have really been on a ridiculuos amount of hits in that genre, but I wouldn't say they're on this album. I've listened to it a few times before but I always conclude that it's not really for me for some reason. There are some well known songs like 'Gin and Juice' and 'Who Am I', but I'm not that big a fan to be honest. They're not bad or anything, I just think there are way better songs out there (see 2001 by Dr. Dre for example) Solid 3 star rating; not bad but doesn't reach any great heights for me personally.

Something about this album just bores me a bit. Maybe I'm not the greatest fan of 90s west coast hip hop or something. The hits like "Gin and Juice" are good but as a whole I just get a bit unfocused. Still it is groovy and when I'm in the mood it's a decent listen. Brownie points for the album art, I like the juvenile art.

Rollo. Le pondré un 3 por las últimas canciones y las primeras. Pero por el medio aburría.

I’m not a big fan of all the drugs and sex references, but this sure is an iconic album, and it’s got a great feel!

Yeah, these lyrics are not it. The beats are cool, and I saved about half the songs, but the rest I can't listen to without physically recoiling.

Solid hip hop and classic production from Dre. Once again some of the skits grow a bit tiresome but still some great tracks in there. Three and a half. Fave track: The Shiznit

Snoop oozes charisma for sure and can turn in a memorable hook or line. But the album suffers from a lack of discipline and originality - so desperate for content, Snoop delivers a pointless Slick Rick cover. The sex and weed obsession grows tiresome and the guest artists, Lady of Rage aside, add nothing. And so we're left with Snoop's occasional charm and the real highlight - Dre's production built on Parliament/Funkadelic samples; Serial Killa, Who Am I (What's My Name) and Gin and Juice the stand outs on an album I rarely listen to in full.

Disco de hiphop del estilo característico de este autor. Letras desafiantes y la particularidad de su propia idiosincrasia. Se deja escuchar

Probably not super my thing, but I liked that it was more laid back.

Used to listen to this a fair bit in the day. Hasn’t aged well.

Classic G Funk beats, Snoops smooth style vocals, but the lyrical content is questionable.

This is pretty good! Dre makes this album really over the top for me. I love how irreverent it is, I love hearing snoop actually take the music thing kind of seriously. It is fun to be around. 3/5

Lyrics -4 stars, music 4 stars, Snoops smoothness on the mic 5 stars, dumb skits between songs -2 stars, dumb cover -1, ok it was 1993 +1 this leaves me with 3 stars.

It's weird. I prefered Snoop on Dr's Chronic album over his own album. A couple of songs that i liked a lot, but overall it was more of the same. Really good production, no surprise there, but just not for me.

Apareceu um disco de hip hop que não me incomodou e até agradou pelo uso agradável dos samples e vocais com qualidades melódicas.

Starts off very well but falls off a little by the last few tracks. The production is by far the highlight of this album, it makes even the lesser tracks stand out a bit more. The lyrics are generally pretty bad though and extremely self-referential but again the beats are so good it makes up for it a little.

I can get the appeal, there was some really great production in there. But I felt gross listening to it. Will not listen again.

Scott Kelly is definitely using his n word pass on this one

This album seems somewhat dated, the 90s music, the OTT drug references and misogyny (although let's be real that's still a thing now) and the frequent n bombs. I didn't mind it though. The music made up for the basic lyrics and there are definitely some catchy songs.

One of the cooler-sounding hip hop albums I’ve heard on this list. I liked the alien sounding synths The humor reminds me of Eminem

Enjoyable and sure, he’s iconic. But there’s rap and hip hop I like more. 7 out of 10

after the first track - bathtub - i was nervous but it was enjoyable overall

This is for children. The skits are hilarious

Funny and laconic West coast flow is clever, though typical of this era the trenchant misogyny bums me out.

I always kind of dismissed Snoop as Dre’s side guy. Never listened to his solo records. But this rips. But it should be no surprise at this point that anything Snoop attached himself to is going to be successful. Side note, this album cover reminds me of the McGruff the Crime Dog album cover. McGruff was the spokesperson for the DARE movement in the 80s-90s. You can find that album on YouTube. You’re welcome.

Look it's alright, gin and juice is about all I can say is super good here but that's possibly down to recognition more than anything

I had a friend who played this non-stop in high school, so I think my enjoyment of this album comes at least as much from nostalgia as the music itself. The posturing of this album is pretty funny in light of how Snoop's image as a pop icon has changed in the intervening decades. But the production is super great, like everything that Dr. Dre was putting his hands on in this era, even if the lyrics are just absolutely dripping with misogyny.

Iconic but I would never play it, for reasons both sonic and cultural. But I mean, it's great.

This was an unfortunate day to get this album because I was super busy with moving and by the time I had a free hour to listen to it I just wanted to take a nap. I probably heard 40% of the album by the time I drifted into sleep but overall I still liked it. Gz and hustlas & who am I were my favs because they had fun production, which the album had quite a bit of overall. Unfortunately the lyrics and skits did not age well and are pretty cringe to me at this point. On any other day this might’ve gotten a 4 but instead it gets an above average 3

The laid back alternative to the normal in your face styles of 90s gansta rap. Definitely never heard the entire album, I think musically it sounds good and is catchy and fun, by lyrically I think it kinda sucks. Thematically... it has not aged well.

When this album first came out it was a let down after Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (at least to me) and seemed gimmicky. I still just don’t see what everyone else saw/sees in it.

- Insane production and beats - Groovy west coast rap - Skits are cringe - 3.5 - Favorite songs: G Funk Intro, Ain't No Fun

Classic. Super fun!

Yeeehaw Snoopy doggy woggy

West coast best coast

I've always thought Snoop has a smooth, pleasant voice and a buttery, rich flow. This album does not change my mind. Gin and Juice is still a classic of the genre. Lots of these songs are very fun, and I hate to sound like an old, but the horrific misogyny gets hard to listen to after a point

I could definitely do without gangster rap shit like this on the regular. Even the album cover is a gross joke that rubs me the wrong way. And, of course, the actual album is exactly what you'd expect from this display. It's produced well with clear pop instincts, and Snoop has pretty good flow. However, the lyrics are utter shit. They consist of the usual rap braggadocio and misogyny with little else to them. He's either bragging about how good his raps are, how many women he can bang, or how much weed he smokes. None of these things are things I want to hear rappers rap about, but they have to sell records somehow. It's likely that this commercialized, romanticized version of street life is easier to sell than legitimate critiques of the political and social situations surrounding African Americans in the 1990s, though the latter would make for far better rap albums. Either way, this is definitely a testament to the prevailing culture of 90s rap- and little else beyond that.

I would’ve given like 2.5 if there was the option

It's definitely nowhere as good as I remember it. That early 90s West Coast sound just has not held up, and the skits are dumb, and it just all around is not doing it for me. But man Dre knows his way around a synth!

Not really my thing, a lil bit corny and horny

Musically more interesting than most rap but lyrically sounds like it’s written by a foul mouthed 15 year old. 2

He has better albums

Gansta-rap ei edelleenkään ole omia suosikkejani, mutta kyllähän tämän läpi kuunteli. Jälleen paljon uhoa ja N-sanaa. Ihan hyviä biittejä.

Album themes are repetitive and predictable. Songs have aged and offer nothing interesting

It's a lot like Dre's album Chronic except at least Snoop has a little bit more charisma. But all of my complaints are still there. Not the most creative writing. How many times you gonna talk about your fuckin balls dude. Gotta imagine this isn't Snoop's finest and I'm sure it's a cornerstone album (of course the beats are all nice at least) but not for me.

For a legendary rapper, it was like 20% of dog metaphors. Kinda disappointed.

Snoop persona is a nope for me. Drugs, alcohol, and random sex...hard pass with so much denigration of women.

Cool rapper, better than expected although of its time. One unlikely to go back to. 2.5/5

Maybe I would have liked this album if I had been 21 when it came out, and I was still in a forgiving mood. Listening to it now, I mostly felt tired. The kind of tired you feel when you realize many of your compatriots think Kevin James is a good actor. Decades ago I was watching the men's NCAA basketball tournament and I caught an interview with the coach of the losing team of whatever game I had just watched. When asked how he felt about the loss, instead of gushing about how hard his kids had played etc, in a grouchy old man voice he talked about how he was so tired of seeing his players keep making the same mistakes despite his constant attempts to teach them better, and that maybe his whole career was pointless. That's how I feel about this record. Tired of waiting for people--and specifically famous rappers--to do better. The skits on this record--without even starting on the lyrics--make it exhausting. If I could remove the skits, take out the misogyny, and disregard the sexual references seemingly devised by and for pubescent boys, then I suppose this record could be fun.

Not really my style and also nothing special

tired of misogyny being our culture

No private session used for Spotify. I just can't do the excessive use of the n word and the misogyny.

love everything besides the lyrics tho cuz most if not all of the mentions of women in this album are objectifying them also as another review on this website said "snoop why do you like balls so much" i agree

This is very different from my typical music taste but it’s definitely a vibe I like doggy dog world Lodi dodi and gin and juice the most

The music isn't terrible, it might get a 3...but the lyrics are ridiculous

I remember now why I dismissed him when he first arrived on the scene. This is nowhere near as good as the album he did with Martha Stewart. That bitch got bars.

This was a punish to get through. I get it was important at the time but I’m just not into all that N word gangsta rap stuff. The music was catchy enough and definitely iconic, reminds me of playing GTA Sam Andreas

Best Track - "Gin & Juice"

Extremely ok

Into the first song and all those lapping water sound effects are really making me uncomfortable. Before we go any further I'm going to say I don't think this album is going to be for me. But I can hope for at least one or two songs I quite enjoy! Bathtub was less than 2 minutes but felt a lot longer to me There's lots of short snippets that sound familiar either as samples or that I've heard somewhere, but mostly just single lines as opposed to anything longer It's interesting listening to this within a few weeks of the Eminem album because both have some similar in your face I would say quite sexist lyrics (or at least vibe) but Eminem was clearly trying to be as controversial and provocative as possible, but I don't think Snoop Dogg is trying to be and so almost feels like more of a true reflection of him rather than a character I did like the high pitched droning drill kind of synth sounds throughout that were a bit eerie and disconcerting Ok I did enjoy Who Am I (What's My Name) - would have loved to have a credited singer

Nun ja Snop doggy Rap halt, nicht meins

to gangster

music so mid it cant make up for the disgusting ass album cover

Did not grab me

i love how when something is from california it's always so, incredibly, *from california*. lmfao. fun and theatrical. had a few high points but dragged towards the end.

I like the beat and concept of the album but not the lyrics

Did not age well

If it weren't for the misogyny...

Entretenido, pero no me gustan las introducciones de las canciones aunque le dan bastante personalidad

I wouldn't have guessed in 1993 that we'd still be talking about Snoop in 2026, but America, man. Not a real good album: Gin and Juice is fine, Who Am I was fun to dance to back in the day; Murder Was the Case is probably the most interesting thing here, but it's just the sketch of a good idea. The misogyny screeches these days -- the kids won't believe this, but that was mild back in the day.

Just not my thing

Doesn’t hold up as well as I remember

Not sure about this one. I liked the grooves and the rythem. I couldnt really make out much of the lyrics and if I did im not sure id like them. Listening to the first half was fun cuz of the grooves but after that it got a bit boring and samey. I think mabye a 2.5 which im gonna round down to 2 due to this being not at all my kind of music.

Partially known. Musically I get it, but the lyrics are exhausting.

I've listened to several hip hop albums on the generator so far, and I've found that I've enjoyed the beats and sounds but disliked the skits and lyrics. That is the case for this album as well, except this one is pretty vulgar, more so than I'm used to. I appreciate the spirit of collaboration in hip hop music, however. So this album is okay because of the musicality, but the lyrical content really isn't my style.

sure, snoop dogg, why not

Liked the music. The lyrics were revolting. NSFW!

I'm from the department of biatches doing a biatch census and this album has at least 5 "biatches". That's 5 "biatches" too many.

Some great tunes, but Snoop Dogg should only ever be a sometimes food.

Sorry - no. This list has far too many rap albums on it. The cover alone is enough to put me off my lunch.

I’m not a huge fan of rap, particularly gangsta rap. I found some cool vibes on this album but it was hard to look past the misogyny and shameless self promotion.

I don't like it

Some of the songs were good, but I just can't enjoy an album with weird skits in it where people are getting shot.

Really quite pleasant if there were no vocals. The beats are fun but I don't need the rap part ha!

Five for the beats and 1 for the rest. I have a sense of humor but gross is gross.

Im in the category that like the rhymes, and G Clinton influences but the lyrics are just tasteless. I understand it is the world he was in and reflects that, but the overuse of swearing and derogatory words just becomes tedious rather than cutting, and it’s a world view that is at its centre misogynistic. I get that’s, that’s its thing. Liked the music, but the content not so, 2 Star.

i only really know snoop dogg from the memes lol. didn't real click with me fav song: Lodi Dodi

Ugh. Especially for what he's become.

Can’t get past the misogyny. 🤮

normally a large fan of hip-hop, but this boom-bap style is not for me and my zoomer brain. im sure id love this if i was older then 25, but luckily im not yet.

Didn't love this musically. The sexual politics has not aged well.

not as good as i wanted it to be. Gin and Juice still as good as ever

Silly. Snoop is fun. This was fine.

I have not listened to this in about 30 years. Didn't care for it then and that hasn't changed. Not sure this aged well. Dre G Funk beats carry this. Snoop’s voice is fine but the skits and features don't help much. Whoever told Snoop he could hang with Slick Rick did him dirty. Got to What's My Name and realized there was still half an album left. The singles stand out, otherwise very passable.

how is it so good and so bad (in a bad way) at the same time?

not really my style but probably one of the better rap/hip hip type albums i’ve heard so far

Yliarvostettua

I like Snoop Dogg … but this album arrived immediately after NWA which I gave 3 stars and this just isn’t as good. Unlikely to listen again.

**An ok album

Not my scene

Oh I had to laugh at Shiznits. If I listen to this album as a comedy album then it is hilarious! Taking it seriously...I have no words. I'm just shaking my head. It's a shame because I really like Snoop Dogg's voice. I just think it's so different and unusual, particularly in the rap scene, but this is just gross.

D O GG on ollu aina vähän semmonen pakkopulla itelle ettei tääkään kokonaisuus oikee maistunu

Ei oikein lähtenyt. Aika laiskan oloista.

I recently called The Chronic to be the best west coast album of all time. What's funny is that despite this just being The Chronic part 2 essentially this didn't hit. 4/10

A smooth, horny 90s rap album. There are some good beats and occasional catchy hooks, but it's dripping in misogyny and... various fluids. I don't plan on returning to this one, but glad I can say I listened. 3/10

This album is so imprinted in my consciousness as a Xennial that I found it impossible not to sing along. Of course it needs to be on this list, but I can’t tolerate the misogyny anymore. Also, Snoop has been flirting with MAGA for a while now, which disqualifies him from ever being cool or relevant.

I don’t like gangster rap. But it was interesting to see the influence in other songs I know.

First time hearing the album. Of course Gin and Juice is iconic, but I just didn't get into this album. The skits were too much, the bullet shots overdone, and the gangsta fronting too much for my taste, though Dre's production and Snoop's laconic vocal style are highlights. Just not my bag overall. Glad to have heard it though.

Uit principe ga ik deze niet luisteren

- not really my vibe - some of the flow and instrumentals were fun - he does not love them hoes - probably wouldn’t listen again all the way through

This guy loves Dre more than anything in the whole world. Perhaps the most hideous album cover of all time. Highlights: "Murder Was the Case", "Gz and Hustlas"

Ugh. I guess this is appealing to some, but to me it comes off as juvenile and exhaustingly misogynistic. Production is top notch. Lyrics are...well. They are what they are. Snoop Dogg is such a strange character. He bitched about the existence of gay people in the media because he would have to explain same sex relationships to his grandchild. Really? The same man on this album? He's also been cozying up to Trump and MAGA lately. He just doesn't make any sense. Anyway. Back to this stupid album. It gets a 2 from me because I find it as exhausting as I find Snoop Dogg's public persona.

I've been trying to do one album a day so I can get through this list in a couple years. That's a fairly long stretch of time and yet still every time these early 90's west coast rap acts come on I get like, contact dermatitis from the tropes. The endless misogyny and homophobia, the skits, the same general themes repeated ad nauseum. Maybe I'm saying that this makes listening actively and critically more difficult. Maybe, but even if I subtract all of those things out I could just be listening to George Clinton's Computer Games and be having way more fun.

I didn't finish this album. I listened through the first nine tracks, made it about 30 seconds into the tenth before skipping because I was so repulsed, and then gave up shortly into track eleven. Dear god this album felt like they were trying to break a record for how much dirty talk, cursing, and N words they could cram into an album. Sprinkle in some guns and Snoop Dogg stroking his ego as much as his dick, and that's this whole album in a nutshell. I was genuinely disgusted and angry by the time I shut it off. The positive thing I'll say about this album is that the production is very good, so much so that I could look past the absurdly vulgar nature of the album for a few songs. It wasn't enough to save it, but I appreciated it. 2/5

At one point in my life I found the song “Girls” by the Beastie Boys funny. I don’t now. Same here. Maybe when I was younger I may have thought this was cool but not now. Misogyny. Check. ‘Gangster’ shit, check check. Guns this and murder that and nigga this… it’s just tough for me to sing along to cuz I can’t identify at all. Incredible samples (thanks Dre) and his deadly drawl delivery save it as solid background music but as soon as my ears open I want nothing to do with it.

Listened to the first few songs i believe it was 2 or 3. Honestly I think rap is overrated, I used to listen to like Juice Wrld but I grew out of it. So the point is i think it’s like a 2.5 round down to 2.

I can like hip-hop, but not this kind. I don’t think it’s bad, but I just can get into it.

i can't listen to rap really, that one is at least old school, a bit better, than new stuff

Not my style never heard before other than the hit tunes, but mostly listenable.

Well... I would lie if I said it's a good album. It isn't, at all. But, at times, it's nice, it has a good sound... if it weren't because of the lyrics. It's very childish, and an album that tries to be provocative but turns to be more of a kind of joke of itself and the hip-hop genre overall. It feels so long as songs go on. The beats and melodies lose the interest so quickly and become boring. And they are the only thing that may save the album, because Snoop Dogg just shouts pretty uninteresting, vague and stupid things. At least there is some sonic consistency, a nice sound sometimes that evokes some kind of detective atmosphere. It's nice, but the rest isn't. So... what's the point? Of those lyrics? Or of the entire album? There is nothing spectacular, nor something to communicate. It's just a very insipid album with tasteless lyrics. And that's it, sadly (or not, I'm not here to safe or justify Snoop Dogg's existence, this album should be the one doing it, and it fails in that aspect so hardly; at least, he makes some interesting hip-hop tracks and has convinced me a bit about giving hip-hop some more chances – but not with him, actually, not with him).

Niet mijn ding

I liked this better when I was 22 and high.

With the exception of a few guest lyrics, Snoop has never been my cup of tea - or pot...

Not my fave. I get the hype for Gin & Juice though

Gin and juice is a classic combination.

Crazy to think the white washed Snoop Dogg of today put out this record. Despite the Dr. Dre touch, only a few songs really stand out.

not bad but not for me, and i aint snoop lion

Groovy but not really my thing

Not my vibe

I wasn't the biggest fan, which is a shame because the production and the west coast style beats are sick, but I don't think I can stand snoops voice for an album. Album didn't interest me past the instrumentals. Does this make me a #hater?

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Snoop Dogg. I’m really hoping it’s not too misogynistic, etc, as some rap albums from this era have not aged well. Guess we’ll find out if I get through it. Like it so far though. The beats are good, the rhythm is good, his voice is good. Generally this was a good listen - only let down by some of the lyrical content which drops the score. I know it’s a thing in a lot of rap music, especially from the 90’s, but it nonetheless irks and loses points from me because of it.

It’s good. I love it musically but the words. This must’ve come out before Dionne Warwick sat him down and told him to stop degrading women. I’m glad she did, and apparently he listened.

Gin and Juice is a classic. General funky sound is solid, but the lyrics are bad. Not enough stand out songs lyrically or in production to be ‘good’. Bounced between 2 and 3, but settled on a 2.

Assis! Couché… fait le mort! Fait le mort! Ouuuui bon chien

Тяжело мне дается такое. Жду Эминема.

Beats were groovy and flow good, but the lyrics drag this down for me.

Ok groove and vibe and a pleasant surprise for a rap album. Not my thing but this was not a painful listening experience. Best song was Gz and Hustlas.

Bitches, hoes, etc. Motherfuckin' yawn. But kinda listenable in places.

What a bad day to listen to lyrics

Sonically, this album is good. But I just can't get behind these lyrics. Even when the lyrics are not being blatantly misogynistic or talking excessively about balls, they're kind of boring. Something I did like about the album was the radio station that made an appearance on a few songs. But why were there twenty different Dr. Dre mentions throughout the album? Two stars. (Favorite track: Murder Was The Case.)

The production, beats, and hooks are sometimes really good but I don’t resonate with any of what he says

I remember this album being massive when it came out. The flows and beats are still there, and just as incredible, but the lyrics and the corny skits are so bad. I found myself bopping along and then all of the sudden I would be overwhelmed with cringe and embarrassment.

My expectations were low—it's not my favorite type of music—but it was surprisingly good. Although I don't think I'd spontaneously listen to it again.

It’s okay

The popular songs on this album are classics, but the ones that... aren't... make this an album I wouldn't play in full again. The skits are cute, but not something I want to listen to again. Also, the end of one track plays one of those high pitched tones that only young people can hear. This is a rare genre where I actually prefer modern hip hop to the classics. Objectively this probably deserves more stars; it's that none of these tracks are making it into my rotation of music I listen to regularly. I do like the funny little rat on the album cover.

Wahnsinnig schlecht gealtert und die Lyrics killen für mich sämtliche Beats.

I generally like snoop dogg but I was meh on this one

Not my music scene

Wow great cover
