Reviews (page 7 of 7)
i really wish i liked this style of music, because this one is really unique amongst the metal i've heard. the use of brazilian instruments and styles at points on here is really neat and i think it works well. this is a me problem, but i am not a fan of the growly metal vocals (in general) and so despite the interesting spin on the metal formula, this one was a bit of a tough listen for me. pretty neutral on the instrumentals overall, but the vocals bring it down for me a lot.
Not mine
No, no, no, no, no. Not for me at all.
C'mon boys, time to lose the vocalist. He's dragging you (and me) down. *EDIT* Just read the album summary after listening to this and writing my review, seems like the band got the message after all
Mostly screaming until the last track, which was quite cool. I found it unpleasant overall.
Itsári is a wonderful track. Struggled to get through the rest.
Too intense for me to really give a good review
I’m sure it’s great if you love death metal, and the cover is great, but I just hate the genre
This was another album I just couldn’t finish. Instrumentally it sounded really good but I can’t do screamo vocals. They become so grating and hard to listen to, I just can’t do it.
crap
Couldn't take Soundgarden followed by Sepultura. Didn"t really listen to it properly ,but extrapolating from the first song I'm giving a 1
I don’t get who likes this music… this music purposefully makes you feel angry… I don’t like that.
Not for me
Didn't really like this at all.

An album that is very brutal. Brutally shit that is. Whether it’s music or politics, tribalism is something that is very damaging although it’s nu-metal that brings more misery to society and needs to be stamped out at its roots entirely.
Previously rated: Arise (3/5) ********************* Anything good on this one was ruined by the edgy, angry, vomit vocals. So uncomfortable to listen to. We finally get a reprieve from that on the last 13:17 long track, and it's just gunshots and scrubbing pots and pans. At least that's what it sounded like. Just unpleasant sounds all around on this thing. I'm rather surprised to see I gave their other album a 3/5. I guess the vocals didn't bother me as much on that one.
Bloody awful nu metal assault. Not my thing.
i can appreciate it, but really not my genre
Nope. Just going to say nope
The percussion and driving riffs deserve applause, and I love that they leaned into Brazilian tribal rhythms; it’s angry, it’s proud, it’s got real force behind it. But those vocals… oh no. He’s giving me a sore throat just listening, and I want to hand him a warm mug of honey water. Sir, please hydrate.
Not my thing but kind of worked for bashing out some work to
Better than their other piece of shit but still crap. Sounds so dated and lasts forever. Genuinely lasts forever Crap Canyon Jam fucking sucks
No me gustan ese tipo de voces.
Nah.
Jesus I just wasted an hour I’ll never get back. I’m not a metal fan at all so I was scared going into this but I found myself handling it and even enjoying some songs. But after the first 4 songs it just dragged on with songs that all sound the exact same. So boring. I also hated the vocals in this I can be a fan of some metal vocals but these one were just talentless and hard to listen to. I’m never returning to this again one word to describe this “boring”. Does it deserve to be on this list maybe but I disliked this a lot and overall giving it a 3.9/10 1.9/5
Just. Not. My. Thing.
Sepultura has mastered the “art” of whisper screaming. Anger is the obvious message. However the lyrics are often unintelligible making the intended direction impossible to detect. It was difficult to listen to and I was glad when it was over.
Oh god. How did I get two Sepultura albums in a row? I like this less than the album before as this is even more aggressive and scream-y. I cannot decipher the lyrics at all. It sounds like this emoji: 👹 The album art is great. That’s my favorite part of this.
I don’t know if I hate the drums or the screaming (oh sorry singing) and I decided the screaming was the worst part of this album. The only redeeming part of the album was the songs Jasco, Itsári, Canyon Jam and parts of Ambush since these songs thankfully didn’t have either screaming or the modern drum kit. To pour salt into an open wound, this was the second album in two days from Sepultura - how can there be 2 of these Sepultura on this list?!? So I took one star away for back to back Sepultura! Now if it this consisted of just the indigenous Brazilian music and expanded that into a full blown album, I’d have given that at least a 4 star!
No thank you
Not my bag.
Really
Metallica I get, but this is just garbage listed as metal. 1 star or F- .
Apparently, some people love this stuff.
Comes across like a novelty act. I’m accustomed to banal metal vocals, but boring guitar riffs is a cardinal sin. It got a bit better with the guest vocals on Rotamahata, but nowhere near good. No idea why I had to hear this one.
No
I can see why the two more popular songs are liked, but generally this was gross and depressing.
Too heavy
Obviously an acquired taste.
Not for me The vocals are unpleasant. The music samey
Never enjoyed music like this. Guitars too heavy , vocals too shouty. Not for me
Just fucking no
If I could give this trash heap of screamo negative stars, I would. Nearly unlistenable.
As noted earlier, this heavy metal is not my genre, even if it is from Brazil. I listened to the original release, not the later editions. Besides the last track, there was 72 minutes of a guy screaming. The percussion/drums were very good, but otherwise there was nothing of value to me.
Tough week, man. At least this is *90s* screamy guitar stuff, so there's like, one iota of nostalgia since I've heard its ilk before. But mostly I hate it. Seeing Jonathan Davis from KoRn featured made me wish I were listening to KoRn instead, which is something I'm pretty sure I never wished before. This vs yesterday's Venom is a real tough call, but I think this might be even worse (to listen to, I mean, I'm not rating objective merit or anything). 'Ratamahatta' started out like it might be good for 20 seconds, and it's in Portuguese, so that's probably the highlight, but yikes. Oh, and the last track is 13 minutes of sparse vibra-noises, so that one is relatively fine. Still, I'm dropping my first 1 here, since if not now, when? So much screaming! Stop yelling at me!! >:(
1/5 as I really dislike songs with singers screaming instead of singing
Heavy metal. Pass
Nope, not gonna listen to this for an hour
1996 Screamo. This one was tough to endure. Really rough and loud and made me feel bad.
From the wiki article it sounds like an interesting project, to blend metal with their Brazilian roots and use the influence of samba and music from indigenous tribes. I must be a philistine because it just sounds like a lot of heavy guitar riffs and roaring to me for pretty much the whole album though. The closer then comes in which is nearly 15 minutes of drums and cricket sounds, so i guess that's where the world music is, but it's really boring. I was going to give 2* until that last track - not my kind of thing but can see some merit. However I have no desire to listen to this again now.
Hated
Makes laugh. Then it’s just boring.
Not for me
Stop it
WTF? Unlistenable. Just screaming.
Angry shouting, incomprehensible, difficult to find any redeeming value whatsoever.
Complete
So in my review of Metallica I described myself as "incapable of taking metal seriously". That is still true, I can get hints of how important this album is, it sounds at times Nu-Metal-ly before that genre really kicked off in 1998-2000, but in terms of actually listening to it? Couldn't finish it, just got too annoyed at the growl screams and repetitive riffs.
Refused to listen. Played Matumbi's Seven Seals instead. Aye.
Total crap that is insulting even to other albums that are total crap.
Oof. Yeah not my thing.
Ugh. Over an hour of that.
1 stjerne
The opening track is sung with such unapologetic anger that I can’t help but enjoy it, even though it would be significantly better with a properly delivered vocal and melody. The horrific atonal singing is absurdly hard to listen to for more than a few minutes... as I would soon find out. It’s pretty funny looking at the listening numbers on Spotify as the album progresses. There’s an obvious negative correlation between progress through the album and number of track listens – punctuated by the opening track having the most and closing track having the least. And for good reason. This genre (nu/atonal metal) is hard to listen to, appeals to a very specific demographic, and hasn’t aged well. There's little to enjoy here other than the novelty of drunken screaming and a few decent instrumental tracks dotted around. Ratamahatta is one of the better songs. It gains points for being fairly early in the album (and hence not being unbearable) and having some good sub-melodies. Itsari is a more acoustic track without screaming, making it much better. The final track, while generally lacking the crazed screeches, resembles proto-prog in the worst way possible: 13 minutes of instrument noodling and quiet, passionless chants. It's a waste of runtime on an already bloated album. Not an album you must hear before you die. As another reviewer wrote: "There are some interesting things happening rhythmically here and the riffs are pretty heavy and fun, but I just can't cope with the vocals. The older I get the more trouble I have with such abrasion. The guttural shrieks and howls just turn me off." True that – I'm not even particularly old and I can't imagine anyone unironically enjoying this. 1/5 Key tracks: Roots Bloody Roots, Ratamahatta, Itsari
Bloody Rawts - A Gordon Ramsey Album
listened to like 3 songs. not my thing.
Not for me. Didn't listen to any full song.
How is this called music? Itsári and Caynon Jam were the only pieces that were interesting (basically the guy with a bad hemorrhoid wasn't attempting to sing).
Crap
Not for me. Feels like I'm summoning a demon while listening to this
I don’t think this was supposed to make me laugh, but it sure did anyway. 0.5/5
I don’t mind some metal once in a while. But this was a bit too much screaming and just a lot of noise.
Not for me - noise
ew
Seriously, think I would give every heavy metal album a 3—minimum—if they were solely instrumental. The music is that good. But I can’t with the screaming.
The absolute worst kind of music, sorry
I can hear you, you don’t have to scream. Can’t/didn’t/won’t finish tho..
While rythmically interesting songs are in there as well, and others having some fun riffs, I get heavily turned of by the gutteral shrieks and howls, which probably can be considered typical for Metal.
Each to their own I suppose.
Heavy
What a pathetic rubbish! Screw the cultural "roots" Where do I hear a berimbau? It's all just disturbing, loudly squeezed out rubbish. If you like it, so be it, I don't. how many minus stars can I give? Oh, none. So imagine at least minus 3 or more and I'll give you a star here, as always on such occasions, but of course I'm not serious
heavy metal, dark rock, 1996 -> 1
I’m afraid I am unable to finish this type of heavy/thrash metal.
Wtf
I don’t like death metal music. All the vocalist did was a lot of screaming. Sounded like a deranged toddler having a temper tantrum. Instrumentals had the banging beat throughout the album. If i listen to something like this for too long, it would seriously put me in a bad mood!
No me va
I can't get anything out of the genre. I only knew Sepultura by name. I don't know the album. And it will stay that way. I played the first 3 tracks. Admittedly, the instrumental part wasn't as bad as with other representatives of the genre. I had heard enough by the time the so-called vocals kicked in. 1/5
I’m like a reformed smoker/drinker with metal, used to like it in my younger days but now I would rather hear anything, and I mean anything else. I mean Shit a second album by these. Why? I mean WHY. Having listened to every album so far at least once, having already tasted this…music… didn’t make me feel too happy this morning. Over an hour of the same tedious one speed riffs and that vocals ffs. Presume it’s supposed to pervade aggression but it’s just sounds very silly. The glimpses of authentic instruments/ rhythms make it better than the last giving it it’s only change of pace and high point Itsari, but that’s faint praise. 1 star -cause they won’t let me give zero, not my thing anymore, plodding, monotonous, for all the supposed rage it’s just tiresome. Footnote, kept train alive and made it through, but please no more let this be the last time I have to hear this. Each to their own aye.
Is singing like this supposed to be awful? If so, success. It brings the entire thing, whose instrumentals are actually pretty good, down so much that any track with vocals is unlistenable. Bringing myself to listen to 72 minutes of this trash was a real struggle.
A few nice musical pieces like on "Ratamahatta " or "Breed Apart" but the metal-typical screaming is annoying!
While not as awful as other nu metal I’ve heard, I still don’t like this
Fucking terrible
Screaming shrieking loud banging is not music
No
This is definitely just a taste preference but whatever is going on with the vocals I’m way to anxious for.
Party im Irrenhaus? Unhörbar!
Beaaaahhhh, Grunt, Wooooaahhh, gutteral raaauuugh.
Nah
Nah
Album 587 of 1001 Sepultura - Roots (1996) Rating : 1 / 5 What a mess. Sam Kinison could have been their lead vocalist. Not my thing. Some Metal is fine. Not this.
Second Sepultura album, the first didn't deserve to be on this list so i'm not listening to this one. This is a really bad list.
That was a brutal listen
No no no. I tried, I really did. Listened to 4 songs, couldn't take it. They all sounded like the first one to me (ROOTS! BLOODY ROOTS! ROOTS! BLOODY ROOTS!) Ugh. Now, I like some good screaming and anger in music. My problem with this album(thesongs I listened to) was that it was ALL screaming and anger. When it is all the sane "level", it has no impact and is boring, IMO.
Cookie Monster does spinal tap
Nope!...Just nope!!
Annoying
Reminds me of music from pingu
This is one of the only albums on this list I DNF. Not at all for me.
I can't get through this. The vocals are atrocious to me - guttural screaming is very much not my thing.
As is usually the case with this genre, I made it through half a song and called it a day. I'm glad someone out there finds this enjoyable but that person is not me. 2/10 (1/5)
I don't find anything in the world as unbendingly humorous as bands like this. I really am amazed at the ability for bands like this not to burst out laughing at how f'ing stupid they sound. This deserves zero stars, but gets one just for giving me the good laugh that I needed today.
Thank god it wasn't a double.
1/5. I can't stand heavy metal.
Not my style
Nah. I can scream into a trash can as much as the next guy.
Waste of time. 0/5
Today I learnt that there's a difference between roots and The roots
Crap
Man, a metal album from the CD era, which means an overly bloated runtime. This was a bit of a slog to get through as it's not really my favorite genre. It's fine for sure, but wore on me as the 72 minutes wore on. Not my favorite.
Kaikin puolin raskasta kuunnella, ei pysty tykkäämään
It's hard to believe that this band has 2 albums one must listen to. Actually I'm gobsmacked that they produced 1 lp that fit the criteria.
absolutely not
oh hell no
Just not something that I would ever listen to - why is this considered something that I must hear before I die? There are issues with this "list".
I really, really don't like this music genre. Although, having been subjected to Slipknot recently, I have to admit this album is musically more advanced and inventive. There were parts of some songs that I appreciated and had compelling rhythms like Straighthate. Ratamahatta was basically a good song (except for the Hulk Hogan vocals). Actually, If I could take a magic eraser to the singer (does posturing growling count as singing?) this could be a tolerable listen. I do relate to being angry about corruption, inequality and deforestation. But I personally wouldn't express it in this way.
Please stop screaming at me. Some of the songs begin promisingly, but then the screaming starts. I was contemplating a two because of Itsari and Canyon Jam, but they didn't write Itsari, and re-listening to Canyon Jam, it's crickets and tin cans and gunshots, it just sounds nicer at first because there's no screaming. Also leaning towards a 2 because I thought it was at least a little better than Slipknot, and good to see some additional cultural representation, but I just can't go higher than a 1 because of the screaming.
Nope. Don't understand how anyone can find this enjoyable to listen to.
Listening Notes: Too much screaming. A few of the instrumental tracks were refreshing to the ears.
this was not spreadsheet-editing music to say the least. I'm not sure i've ever been in a mood that requires this album. the heavy vocals remain not for me but the chanty and instrumental tracks were fine
brutal
Screaming intensifies, interest dies.
Not human no thanks
Music was 3 stars but negative 4 stars for the “singing”
Can’t stand the voice
I can't.
I’m sorry but no matter how influential an album is considered it should NOT sound like this. I will truly never understand why screaming voices can be so likeable and that’s something I will never back up.
tough listen at 6a.
Nope. Music might be good, but the instant I hear the vocal I shut down.
Some of these albums, I just can't.
For 10 songs this was torture. I remember someone trying to get me into this band 30 years ago and my ears bled… Jasco was welcome respite then the torture started up again. Canyon Jam was fine to end on - I can cope with rhythmic drumming but the voice kills me every time. Percentages are not in their favour.
what IS this
Nope. Good for MMA, and meats in the barracks. Soundtrack for the Deplorables.
Nope not for me.
This is... just not my style of music. I can appreciate some of the Brazilian influnces (in drumming, for example) that sneak in here and there, but otherwise this is not an album I'd want to listen to. It's an unfair criticism given the genre, but it's just too screamy for me. And without the melodicism of (e.g.) System of a Down.
Yuck
If there was an option to give this fuck all I would have used it!
I know someone is into this. But I am not. I don't doubt the skill or technique of the musicians. But it's just not my thing. Whatever experience these musicians are providing is not the experience that I look for in music.
Whewwww boy. This was a big ole' "NOPE." It was loud. It was long. When the album started and my ear drums started bleeding, I thought to myself "Am I enjoying this? No. Would I regret turning this album off and not finishing it? No." But then my lovely husband GUILTED me into finishing it, saying, "I don't think you can rate the album if you don't finish it. ItS nOt In ThE SpIrT oF ThE PrOjeCttttt." Fine, Jeff. I finished the album. I'll bill you for the permanent ear damage I incurred. *As an aside, if I were to say anything nice about this album, I at least did appreciate the Brazilian/Latin instrumentation and beats that were sprinkled from time to time. They were fun and broke up the monotony of screaming chaos.
I get a sore throat just listening to this guy scream/sing. This is not an easy listen. I’m determined to listen to the whole album but I’m on track 4 of 16 and struggling ! What’s this? Track 10 is a lovely little instrumental palate cleanser nothing like anything else so far ! Track 11 more tribal, no lead singer growling! Ok screamer is back for tracks12-15, and now track 16 is an 13 minute percussion track. Will the instrumentals be enough to get this album up from a 1 star to a 2? Gonna depend on the last 5 minutes of this last track, but it’s got a deep hole to overcome… I predict/hope I will never listen to this album again.
AAAAAAÄAAAAÁÆAAAAAÃAAAAAA
Too aggressive
yay, more metal. the most interesting revelation about this album is that I had no idea they were Brazilian. I've complained about Iron Maiden screamo vocals before – well, I had no idea what was coming for me. I like the instrumental intros of several songs like Ratamahatta, Breed Away with its tribal-ish drums, also the first minute of Straighthate. otherwise it's mostly just in your face roaring all the time
Too much shouting to even want to listen to the songs. It's a no from me!
wow. awful
Bloody awful, off brand tool I wish I hadn't listened to it. Very very unpleasant.
I guess I can't say I listened because I only made it through half of the first song.
Listening to Sepultura's "Roots" was, for me, a grueling experience that left me more exhausted than exhilarated. This album and I did not mesh well, to the point where I found myself compelled to give it a 1-star rating. While I acknowledge and respect the collaboration with Mike Patton, whom I deeply admire for his work with Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, his contribution couldn't sway my overall impression. Patton has an exceptional ability to bring light and shade to his projects, creating a rich, dynamic musical landscape. Unfortunately, the elements that make his other projects stand out—variety, depth, and innovation—seemed notably absent in "Roots." The album predominantly showcases a relentless intensity that lacks the musical diversity I cherish. While I can see how "Roots" might appeal to fans of heavier, more aggressive metal, for someone like me who thrives on variety and nuance in music, this album felt overwhelmingly one-dimensional. The traditional Brazilian elements, while interesting, were not enough to salvage the overall listening experience for me. Favourite Tracks: None
No, just no.... not willing to let this scream into my ears for more than 2 minutes.
Album is too long, too noisy, too much screaming and also the last song on itself is too long. So, two stars will be too much for this album. I could have used my previous Sepultura review for this album as well; 'Nope'.
It’s like pantera if pantera would be shit songwriters
Very tempted to give this 1 extra star because it just has some weird stuff in it and I respect that. But the whole experience was a bit too unlistenable
fuck this
Heavy metal is not for me personally - hate the vocal style
Hated that
Wow I know there’s people that like this kind of thing but to me it’s a lot of screaming and repetitive noise.
Not for me
Could not finish, not my style I don't like screamo or really heavy metal music.
Korn type music. Not a fan
I can’t do it. I like heavy music, I love dark music, I like some metal. I love Metallica. Guess I’m a poser because I can’t imagine any human on earth getting joy out of this. 2.1/10
This is the first proper, full on metal album I have ever listened to from start to finish, so I went in with an open mind. I have to say, I found it tough going. From the opening track it feels relentless. Heavy riffs, tribal drums, aggressive vocals and very little let up. It genuinely felt like being shouted at for an hour. I can appreciate the intensity and the power, and I can hear that there is serious musicianship behind it, especially in the rhythm section. The Brazilian influences and percussion elements are interesting and give it a unique edge within metal. But it is just not my genre. The constant volume and aggression made it hard for me to find anything to latch onto melodically. Instead of energising me, it left me feeling worn down. I can see how this would be a huge album for metal fans, and I respect what they were doing stylistically, but it is not something I would choose to return to.
To say they have been around for 40 years I have never previously heard of Sepultura. Might say something of me as an incomplete music fan or more likely in my defence that this music was never meant for me. I’m over 70 now so I say the same about Hip Hop or Rap etc - made for a completely different generation. Having said that having now listened to this album I could have seen the younger me liking it (unlike Hip Hop and Rap) Some nice guitar riffs in particular. What I don’t understand about these Thrash Metal combo’s is why the lead ‘singer’ needs to growl instead of sing? And if they need to growl, why in English or any other earthly language? Klingon would be better suited in my view and probably make it a bit more enjoyable. 1/5 31/3/24
Not my kinda thing at all
Nope. Noise.
Just not a big aggressive heavy metal fan
Nicht meins
Nope... just nope for me
God, death metal is awful. POV: you face an angry sheep ("Spit" 2:19)
I so very much dislike this music. I tried to listen to each song but I had to skip over most of it. The voice especially is awful.
Ughh...I really don't enjoy this music. I struggle to see the talent and creativity in the style and genre.
Nothing enjoyable about that experience. Jesco and Itsari are the only listenable songs, the rest of the album is noise with Satan on unintelligible lead vocals. Definitely near the top of the 1001 too long album list. (0.4*s)
Sounds like the singer's got a sore throat!
Not my jam. It's probably great for those who enjoy this genre.
Not a big screaming fan.
I hope they got the help they needed…. Sheeeesh.
Ack. Unlistenable. If I NEED to listen to this before I die, I will die unfulfilled.
I made it through about 5 songs. Not my thing at all. I feel like you either really like this type of music, or you don't. I'm part of group 2.
Fuck no. Zero stars
Not a heavy metal fan. Demon wretches surrounded by admittedly skilled musicians. I'm sure it's influential in the metal community but I'm just not into it. Incidentally the songs I liked the most were the ones that deviated from metal and included some of tribal mode. Not my bag baby. 1.00 stars.
Heavy metal is not really my style.
Metal. Didn’t listen much.
Bad heavy metal.
Not for me
not my thing
Wannabe Slipknot.
Absolutely horrible. Don't understand how this got put on this list. Made it halfway through before giving up. Wish there was a zero stars option.
Could not get through more than one song this was so horrible. What an insult to every great album not included on this list.
Not my thing.
This was not good
I'm glad this album exists for someone who needs it. Itsari was unique. Otherwise, not for me.
Is there a Sepultura album with no vocals? I could get down with that. I'm glad I heard Itsari, that is about the only nice thing I can say about Sepultura.
Making this an instrumental album would result in +3 ⭐️. First, it would shorten the album to a reasonable length. Second, it would remove the most wrenchingly offensive vocals. I understand that the guttural growling goes with the genre, but that’s a no from me. The sad part is that the music is pretty good. There are riffs that I can get down to.
Terrible!
Comically bad.
It would be pretty good if it wasn't for the screamer... I mean singer
Totally not my thing.
It’s a typical metal album.
I really like metal and most of its derivatives, extreme/harsh vocals are usually a plus, heavy and groovy guitar riffs are also a plus. How exciting to be given an opportunity to listen to some of it, with tribal/aboriginal influences! Sadly it sounded good only on paper. Riffs arent particularly groovy, there is little technicality other than power chords and guitar-dissonance-bends. Percussion in some songs was kind of boring, and the tribal parts of it didnt mesh well with the rest of the songs. Lyrics and vocals are the part where this album really falls apart. I appreciate that the album was made like 30 years ago, but its so dated. Low-quality poetry and somehow even lower quality fry screams and abysmal false chord screams. Sometimes Id see a music video from an underground band with like 15 views and awful production, but their vocalist sounds so much better. I guess thats just his technique, but its definitely not for me. I dont care much for nu-metal, but if I did, Id just listen to Korn or something, which did the same thing but a lot better. Overall, just not a pleasant listen, but I really wish it was. Suppose aboriginal influences make it stand out a bit more. Significant 22/58 Liked 9/58 Added 2/58 NNN
No thanks. Didn't like any tracks. 1 out of 5
Words cannot express how much I disliked this album.
Not my taste. Has vaguely interesting Brazilian percussion at the start of some songs before the noisy metal begins and I press the next song button.
My low expectations were met. Interesting rhythmically but mostly an unlistenable racket and as for those vocals … what’s wrong with that lad?
Pls no
Intrumentals are great, Vocals made this personally unlistenable 1/5
Not for me
Well, I'm glad that's over.
I listened to this album for about ten minutes, read the global reviews which were overwhelmingly positive, and then tried to go back and listen to the rest of the album. I can't do it, i'm sorry, this just doesn't do it for me.
I can't finish this.
Stupid growling vocals automatically means one star. Only because we can't vote zero.
Nope
Føjjjjj. Kan godt nok ikke lide
Cut my life into pieces ⛓️🩸, metal will never appeal to me no matter the album
Couldn’t listen to it -awful
The inclusion of Latin American beats at times is interesting but the guitars and vocals are pretty standard thrash, which is not my thing at all. Sorry. And another overlong album.
This ain't Brazilian Bossanova.
An abysmal symphony of cacophonous dissonance. An opus of relentless auditory aggression, characterized by a disarray of timbral textures and incessant polyrhythmic assaults. A lamentable display of disorganized musical form, bereft of melodic cohesion and dynamic subtlety. An exorbitant barrage of guttural utterances, bereft of intelligible enunciation and lyrical profundity. An abhorrent manifestation of sonic pandemonium, characterized by an absence of harmonic resolution and rhythmic finesse. A dismal assemblage of distorted articulations, failing to demonstrate compositional elegance and thematic development. A disheartening exhibition of nihilistic thematic exploration, eschewing intellectual depth and cultural significance. A woeful showcase of tonal atonality and incoherent musical architecture, betraying a lack of artistic direction and creative ingenuity. A deleterious cacophony of percussive excess, lacking in precision and instrumental virtuosity. A distressing foray into disorganized chromaticism, lacking the structural integrity and harmonic sophistication characteristic of accomplished musical works. 1/5.
I think this might be a quick listen and review. I think its heavymetal. Excelent power ballad stuff for those seeking it in this form. Deeply unpleasant voice that evokes horror, disturbing feelings of visceral unpleasantness and nausea. Id give them a chnace with a different vocalist... if life was longer? I need 30 seconds before I shut it down., or.... the time it took to write this.
Nah!!!
14th July 2023 Listened on Monday cos Jen’s family came Friday and we were getting bits ready. Sheffield for Pulp on Saturday. Jesus this was tough.
Okay, no, big no😂
Heavy rock, did not like
Not into the genre
I could never get past the vocals.
Based on my rating scale of 1 == “I wanted to turn this off multiple times” I have no choice but to rate this a 1. I must have double checked the playlist every single song hoping I was closer to the end of the album. Drums and guitar were good at times and I didn’t even mind a few of the weird songs in the middle that had no lyrics, but every time the singer “sang” I wanted to skip to the next track.
Some nice grooves. Jasco and Itsári are welcome breaks from the guttural madness.
nah
hard pass
Another hard pass from me, I genuinely don’t see why something like this makes it into a collection of albums that one must listen to. I don’t see what value it adds to my listening education? Another 1/5
HL: "Ratamahatta", "Itsari", "Ambush" The idea of traditional Brazilian percussion mixed with modern(at-the-time) heavy metal fascinates me, but the end result was a 72 minute slog to reach those moments. Had to turn it off after 3 tracks, to revisit it the following day. But then, track 4 is probably my favourite of the lot. January 30, 2023
I listened to it. The screaming is just not necessary and it is not what I think makes a good album and it is usually the issue with most heavy metal music. The guitar work and the drumming was pretty good and by itself was mostly listenable. The album definitely could have been shorter and I skipped through some songs.
Too much screaming
Bah...
Nee.
Life's too short for this shit
2 albums! 2 albums appear on this list!
Yea, no. This is the extreme shit I just can't listen to. Let it get about halfway through the album and called it. Hard pass.
Too much growl yelling for me!
I saw Roots and thought it was going to be reggae and queued this for my run. Big mistake. The general sort of feel of threat was quite motivating for the running but I also then couldn't stop to get away from it. I'm sorry but I just can't with this kind of music. I like that it is men being passionate and expressing themselves but honestly... Eugh. Just grim. Cannot believe I listened to all 72 mins of this
2/10. There'd be a lot of songs that sounded kinda cool, and then the vocals would kick in and it just sounded like shit. Was relieved that the really long song at the end didn't sound much like the rest of the album.
No
No thanks. Not my style
Not really digging this. I know it's kind of an old album but the production is so muddy and the vocals are not good. I love metal, harsh vocals aren't a deal-breaker but bad harsh vocals are. I'd rather just listen to Korn.
Not for me. His throat must hurt after all that primal screaming.
Indigenous factors do not render ugly music nice
Interesting to read how a death metal band incorporated indigenous Brazilian music and themes into an album to represent their heritage. Not at all for me
I was hoping this would be an album called Sepultra by the Roots. It wasn't. I'm not a fan of screaming metal at all really (although one of the plus points of this singer was that it was relatively easy to understand the lyrics). Still, this genre of music has never done anything for me really, and this album has done nothing to change that. 1/5.
Noise, plain and simple. Nothing redeeming here. F
Oh heck no…
aw shit, first Pantera now this yeah this album really has nothing special about it for me, I fucking hate trash metal I talk about it more on the Vulgar Display of Power review, shits just ass in my ears, 2/10
Death metal - unlistenable rubbish.
Unlistenable. Could be genre bias.
I guess it is for someone, but not for me.
Not my stuff
Hurts my ears! Ratamahatta is quite an interesting track with the drums
Nope
Screamo is a no from me dog
J'ai arrêté à la première
I would've liked this when I was 12.
lol no, I’m not listening to that for an hour.
19. Roots - Sepultura. 16 Tracks. Some of the instrument playing is really good, but the vocals are just more shouting I'm afraid. It's a half step up from Slipknot, but only a half step. It's just noise to me with some shouty bloke who needs a throat lozenge.
i want to but i just can't
нет.
Far too screaming
Nope
Roots Bloody Roots - So, how is this on this list? Hilariously has a verse that sounds like the heavy metal version of Elevation by U2. Attitude - I Cut Throat - Hate Ratamahatta - This (this one is kind of funny though) Breed Apart - Album StraightHATE this album.
Musically ok but just cannot cope with the vocals
Metal tira pedos
Waaaay too heavy
Not my favorite.
I'm too old for Nu Metal.
No thanks
