Reviews (page 9 of 13)

Shining Star is just amazing as is Way of the World. The rest, despite being dated sound pretty good, but those two tracks are stand outs.

The first have sure was fun and groovy but the second half was a bit more annoying to me.

Good stuff, the hits are nice, but there isn’t really anything that made me stop what I was doing. Standard 3 stars.

Not bad, but I know I'd pick and choose the 3/4 songs I liked best for a funk playlist rather than listening to the whole album

I liked this well enough, but nothing really jumped out at me.

friday mood!

Super cool album. E,W & F have so many classic songs, so I enjoyed this one.

some great, some not so great

Goes down smooth, but ultimately didn't grab me.

Nothing amazing, some decent tracks and who doesn’t like a bit of jazz flute every now and then?

Not too bad but not enough of the hits to be a standout.

eclectic mix of soul, funk and disco with ample amounts of falsetto. nice balance of uptempo and slower songs.

Falsetto fatigue really set in by the end, otherwise a fantastic album.

Some good songs. The falsetto singing got old.

I really liked it, although everything's worse than the mighty "September"

Classic Earth Wind and Fire

Dated but okay

Super funk

Not my kind of music, but this jumps.

Was alright, probably wouldn’t listen to again

A lot more legible as a piece of pop music than Parliament or Funkadelic, but there’s still the sense I am listening to some other folks having fun. I am invited, for sure, but it’s still documentation of a party...elsewhere.

Expected to love this, but it was just ok for me, some good tunes and easy listening

1 stern

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 is smooth, elegant, and clearly an important moment in 70s soul-funk, but outside of 𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳 little really sticks. It flows nicely as background, yet feels more like atmosphere than substance.

I don't know, maybe I got supercharged by listening to good music right before this, but it was really nice

Yikes!

This one ran hot to OK but it was enjoyable overall.

Pretty cool

Tale of two halves for me on this one - I definitely prefer the fast and funky side of this band rather than the slow-jam soul side of this band, and it seemed like they were consciously trying to rotate back and forth between every track. Overall the musicianship is impeccable, and they just exude tightness, with every horn stab and guitar lick in just the right place for maximum groove on the faster tracks (bass playing in particular is a standout). Shining Star is a 70s funk classic for good reason, and Happy Feelin and Africano are great. The slow side loses me a bit though, even though I can sort of see the seeds of 90's R&B here (the talking part on All About Love?!). Closer could have been more interesting with fun time signature to start but then sort of devolves into a basic bossa nova. Overall a pleasant enough listen but I wanted more as a whole album honestly.

When the songs hit, they REALLY hit. The open spaces are as tight as the horn hits are. Beats and grooves are great. But then some songs are total misses and feel stuck in time (Reasons). Surprise hit was Africano, loved it.

3/5. Appreciate the funk

Nothing special, but good listen

pretty good but i probably wouldn’t listen again. i love lets groove though

Funky. Ikke det beste albumet deres, men hadde nok gitt deres ypperste samme karakteren uansett..

It’s fine.

Wonderful album to do calculus 3 work to. Wish I listened to it a little more carefully.

3/5 ew&f bängää mut ei niiden paras albumi

A fine funk album, but I've definitely heard better. Shining Star is definitely the best song on the album. The rest of the tracks kind of overstay their welcome; there's too much falsetto throughout and it loses it's luster/charm. I do really enjoy the variety of instruments in this album (marimba, harpsichord/dulcimer?). As a fan of the funk/ genre, I feel like this falls a bit flat for Earth, Wind and Fire.

For all my love for disco Earth, Wind & Fire has never done too much for me. I like their instrumentation and danceyness but the way that songs come together often leave me feeling decidedly neutral. Maurice White is a good vocalist he just does not grab me often. The title track feels quite bloated as does See the Light neither feeling like they earn the six minutes. Standout tracks Happy Feeling and Yearnin Learnin.

Börjar mycket bättre än den slutar. Lättlyssnat och lättsmält men sen tappar det och blir mindre lattjo. Så tre får det bli å så var det med det.

Very funky. Good “getting ready for a night out” music.

Very good, high 3. First song was the best one.

pretty good, liked "All About Love" the most

It's hard to feel sad when you're listening to something so damn funky. Wish this had September on it though Shining Star is good too. I wouldn't listen to this all the time though or it would lose that cheering you up magic

This album is killer from the start. “Shining star” grooves hard. Four songs in and this album really slowed down. Africans had a great groove.

Groovy tunes

Fine. Not quite ska, not quite new wave... just kinda whatever. Our House is great though

Pretty good. Should listen to it again. Probably 3 to 4 stars.

First time listening to EW&F. Funky and fun.

I want to give this a 4 star rating, but listening to the trumpet is so grating on good equipment it's genuinely a hindrance to the rest of the music. If there was a better remaster, I'll revisit this review.

If there’s only a few things in life you can count on, one of them has to be Earth, Wind, & Fire putting you in a good mood “That’s The Way Of The World” does exactly that with some classic 70s upbeat tracks like Shining Star and Happy Feelin’ while also knowing how to slow it down and connect with the audience through songs like All About Love Although I couldn’t give it more than a 3 due to not having many stand out songs (you can blame my grading system for that), it’s a fun album that meets every expectation you have when diving into the wonderful world of Earth, Wind, & Fire Favorites: Shining Star Honorable Mentions: Happy Feelin’, Africano

If there was a 3.5/5 star option I would use it. Great album, very soulful. Corny song with the narration knocked the album down .5 stars for me

Fun, pleasant, but nothing spectacular. Africano was my favorite.

A few too many sappy ballads, but when they're cooking it's pretty good.

It was alright but not really my thing

Su estilo inconfundible, aires Funk dominan su repertorio. Pasa

I think without earth wind or fire I could not even make tea and for that reason, it gets 3 stars.

This album created a solid vibe for relaxing. There were a few similar songs, all in all I enjoyed it. I just found it was a little dated, and fell into the repetition loop a little

Favorite tracks: Shining Star, reasons Heard before: shining star 3

It's fun album but it is just not there top work and is a bit of the middle of the road.

Easy to listen to

I want to like this... But it's just not catching my interest. Totally fine, but I'm just really mid on this. - Funky! At least it's not classic rock - Fun, but a bit aged. Maybe one of those bands where they defined a new genre that was then overdone

groovy

Funky but doesn’t bring me back for more

Gets a bit meandering (maybe because of the film soundtrack nature of it), but some fun songs on heere. Not sure how many of these guys were in the version of EWF I saw at Standon Calling a couple of years back, but they were some of the most talented musicians I've ever seen. That rhythm section was just incredible.

Baroque in ornamentation, cool in execution. There's some great funk at times, excellent (ensemble!) vocal work and really wonderful production. Every performance element is perfectly competent and the sound comes through clean and clear. Something about this record just didn't grab me. Needed more funk. Whether I didn't get enough sleep last night or this is a me problem more generally, or maybe this does lack the hooks to bring me back, That's The Way Of The World gets the same score as every other terribly competent but emotionally un-resonant album on the list: 3/5. Based on the general critical consensus, it's a me problem. I can live with that.

Funky grooves! The first half has some real 10/10 bangers, but it takes a turn for the mundane during All About Love

Que bandaza, que buen rollo. Funk, soul, jazz...

it's around a 3.6-3.7

I liked it

Música de negão para se ouvir sintonizado no pó mais branco que tiver.

Getting down with your bad self and dancing to this is album like a madman is not a recommendation, it is a legal requirement when you begin. It starts off with an absolute banger right out of the gate with “Shining Star” and then slows down ever so slightly the rest of the way. Besides the first song, “Happy Feelin’” is also a favorite of mine. This is some Grade A funk right here. You’re a shining star, right on!! Have Mercy!! The Funky 70’s catchphrases are all here, and they truly add to the experience considerably.

The vibe is slick, no doubt. Funk, soul, and gospel all show up. But I kept waiting for a moment that made me move. It's all very well-done. Great musicianship, lovely harmonies… I just didn’t get the itch to hit repeat. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Shining Star - That's the Way of the World - Reasons

This album is just not funky enough for me. They have better albums.

It’s a decent disco album. I feel they have better music out there. 3/5

Not their best work, decent but it's no Let's Groove Tonight or September.

Favorites: That's the Way of the World, Yearnin' Learnin', Reasons

Some of the greatest hits of the era. A bit disco/saxaphone heavy.

3 out of 5. As good as their vocals are the instrumental track, Africano, is a banger. Also I learned Shining Star came from this album.

Cool. I only know the hits and don't know those all that well. I think I'll enjoy this. Washed over me just a little bit first time. Maybe the production isn't 100% for me. Enjoying it a little more second time - there is some good funky stuff here. Africano slaps.

6'5/10

Obvious easy listening and soulful as hell but I can’t imagine anyone out there genuinely puts earth wind fire as their favorite band ever or this album as their favorite ever. All about love is a snoozer til that horn line comes in. See the light made me very angry in a way I can’t explain other than I thought the album was over and then it was a 7 minute okay-bad song. Way more indifferent to this album than I thought I’d be.

Was excited for this album, but it was kinda mid. Shining Star is a song that I grew up on. My mom loved playing it, but I didn't think there were many other strengths to this album besides that. It was easy to get funky to it because there were some nice grooves, but nothing super special. 3

Started strong and then lost me. Funky mess of a mix. Soft 3/5

Shining star is fantastic, rest of the album is fine ig. Only 38 mins which really surprised me

wonderful fun, good vibes i love the instrumentals nice Best tunes: shining star, happy feelin', africano

Exactly what I expected, good summer day music

Good voices, I get why people like it. Not really my thing. Can't ding em though. 3.

this album feels inconsistent to me. I probably have expectations that EWF are all dance all the time, which I'm 100% here for (sad dancing is a thing!). but this album has a few dance songs and mostly not dance songs including one sermon/spoken word track that I skipped on my second listen.

This was what I expect It to be

“Shining Star” is a classic.

First time listening to Earth, Wind & Fire intently. This really slaps. Perhaps it caught me on the right day. I can see it being over the top and cheesy and annoying when not in the mood. It feels like every member is a master of their instrument. The funk falsetto is off the charts. It feels like a time capsule to the 70s soul scene. A lot of fun, though not something I'd always listen to.

Great!

70s movie soundtrack. Og funk/soul. Great production. The definition of funky.

As much as disco/funk is not my style it’s hard to listen to this album without a smile on your face. Africano is a 100mph jam fest moving so fast it has no choice but to fade out. You simply can’t stop a song with that much momentum. Don’t tell my bros but…I might dig Earth, Wind & Fire??3/5

Pretty good -- sounded like the transition from funk to things that are a bit more dance oriented. The hits are absolute classics.

It was a fun listen while me and the boys had a board game day. 7/10

I was never a fan of Earth, Wind & Fire at the time, but I can say I heard much more than what appeared on the radio during the disco era. It is what it is, some groovy, upbeat soul that is so infectious, it's hard not to bust a dance move. This might be nostalgic, but why not try to enjoy music from 50 years ago? My younger self would disagree, but I want to hear more E,W&F now!

It's fun.

That's The Way Of The World is just an okay album in my eyes. When it comes to Earth, Wind & Fire, i typically know them more for their heavy disco tracks so it is a bit of a surprise to see them do something with more of an R&B twinge to it. This was also the soundtrack to a movie of the same name which makes it the fourth film soundtrack i have done. The songs themselves are alright, they get the job done and don't do anything that terribly but there isn't really anything all that memorable. I guess it is good that it is a pretty short album but other than that, i don't think i have much else to really say about this album. Best Song: That's The Way of The World Worst Song: Africano

3 stars I’m glad I’ve found a good EWaF album. I never took the time to listen and this was quite enjoyable. I’d say some tracks don’t stand out as much, but none of it is bad and it’s pretty brief. A fun record!

Cool sound

2.5 rounded up

The hits are great, and Africano I liked. The rest — meh.

In my head, “shining star” was kinda cheesy, but I was wrong. Maybe I never paid attention beyond the chorus before. The verses are really fun. I didn’t know “that’s the way of the world” was called that or that it was by EWF. I thought it was called “hearts afire” and wasn’t written by any single band but had more or less always existed in the collective consciousness. Loved those first two songs! Then there was the rest and this fell from “potential 5?” to “at least a 4?” to “3.5, rounded down.”

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of soul, but I found this album really fun and whimsical to listen to. Put this on while walking around town or doing your daily chores and it’ll have you feeling like you’re the main character in a movie.

I was expecting disco from Earth, Wind and Fire but this is more like a soul record. Quite liked it - I'm between a 3 and a 4, the pluses are the funky bass playing, great singing (particularly Philip Bailey) and positive vibes. On the other hand I wasn't completely grabbed by all these songs. I don't think a lot of it was that memorable. I think it's 3* for me

get that SOUL FOOD mass

Great album. One of my favorite albums to sample. So many interesting grooves and drum breaks.

Like any sane person, I really do love "September" but unfortunately, that's not on this album. These songs never really rose above the level of "fine" to me; nothing really stood out or gave me any reason to think about returning to this album later. Sorry guys, but maybe I'll check out one of the other albums sometime!

Not bad but deffo should re listen- job for plane to Doha

The funky songs are fun, but there are too many ballads that I just don't care for. High 3.

Funky. Shallow, but funky.

Fun, but didn’t blow my mind.

Disco and funk. None of the big hits on the track list.. are there any hidden gems? Some soul and ballads too. Not exciting me much Jazz mixed with funk on instrumental Africano Best track - Africano 3 stard

Enjoyable. Skilled musicians creating a pleasant listening experience. Suffering through the drivel on this list puts this at a solid 3.

Good mix of funk and soul, generally preferred the more uptempo songs over the slower, more ballad ones. Standouts: Happy Feelin', Yearnin' Learnin', Africano

Cool sound

Nämä on kovia levyjä. LP kamaa jolloin fiilistellä kunnolla

It was good but it felt the same throughout kinda

Yeah I liked this funky disco soulful album but she didn’t speak to me.

Started SO strong and then fell off a little unfortch. Think I’ll give this one a 3.5. Beach drive with Jane and joe.

ya! pretty fun!

Shining Start is an all timer - the rest of the album was good at best, soft.

Now this is more my genre. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is the strongest album, and I probably won’t listen to it again. Standout songs: Shining Star

Ich mag den Vibe und den Sound total gerne, auch wenn es nicht ganz mein Genre ist. Toll instrumentiert, toll gesungen. Könnte mir mit mehreren Durchgängen bestimmt mehr zusagen, das groovt schon toll.

Half of this album was somehow more sophisticated than I expected. And the other half was just as, if not more, cheesy as I expected. Putting it square in the “meh” category.

Familiar with the band, and some of their songs. None of them are on this album, so it's a fresh listen. It's alright, great musicianship. I like track 1 and 3 but nothing memorable.

Oh my God that's some funky shit - Beastie Boys - Prodigy - Me

Like all their work it’s pretty great. Shining Star was one of my favorites from my Middle School ipod nano tracklist and is fun to re-visit. Most of this album is very danceable and belongs on a wedding dance floor. The rest of the slower funk doesn’t hit quite as hard. Standout Tracks are: “Shining Star” and “Africano”

Enjoyed the funk songs but the R&B went my fav. Gets a 3 star overall

Hear some gospel. A lotta funk. A bit of fusion as well. Dug it.

Had quite a lot of fun listening to this one

This was a mixed bag. A couple of classics, some ballads I wasn't crazy about, but also some good instrumentals I wasn't expecting.

Um bom album, bem anos 70. Vontade de viver na decada de 70 e ouvir Happy Feelin', All About Love (First Impression) e Africano.

melodies over melodies

Not an album I knew. Enjoyed that 70’s soul tinged with funk. Not one of my favourite bands but certainly gives you a summer feel.

this album made me think about the bee gees

Started strong and ended strong. Lost interest a bit in the middle. Had no idea this was a movie soundtrack

classic

Groovy funk. Not music a really listen to, but in the right mood I dig it. 3.5/5.

Alright. Hear me out. So That's The Way of The World is a fantastic album. Every track flows so well into each other that I dare anyone to try and skip any of it. The only lack luster track might be "See the Light" but even then I'm dancing to it. However, this has nothing on their 1979 album I Am. That's The Way of the World paved the way for literally every album they released after. Still a great listen all the way through. 7/10 (Still figuring out a grading. I don't know man. Just work with me here.)

Some pretty tight funkin' and some pretty wack balladin'

Avslutningen på All About Love va heilt sinnsjukt feit, har sikkert hørt på den 30 ganga i dag

I had fun listening.

I get the impact and like the sound for a few songs, but this album isn't for me.

3.5 stars. Some great funky songs . I enjoyed listening to this album

Some pretty good stuff but I wasn’t too amazed and felt a bit slow. 3 stars

Classic good, solid well written funk. The singles I knew, not the rest. Was enjoyable but not particularly memorable. I’d throw it on as background music for a party funk vibe but wouldn’t sit down for an intense listen. Still love the beats, the bass and the horns all over it.

This was pretty pleasant but utterly un-inspired. there are much better EWF albums out there

Proto metal. Fuzz

Far exceeded my expectations.

Pretty good. Listened to this while I was stripping wallpaper, it helped me get into a rhythm and I'm happy to report only a small portion of the original plaster is damaged, so that'll save me some money.

Not one that I was expecting to like but it’s crammed full of soul funk goodness

funky for sure. i wish i was alive during this time to go clubbing and boogie my heart out. as the album went on, just felt like background music.

Super fun!

I thought I looked old school hip hop but this didn't really do much for me. There was some funky tracks in there and some classic tracks which I have heard samples from in Krafty Kuts sets. Africano is the best track, quite a funky beat and some nice changes.

Groovy, glat, opløftende, mangler måske lidt kant

Started well, I cared less and less though.

Some nice songs but not my cup of tea. Too flowery.

really gorgeous voices and arrangements but easy to tune out

Cool, but I think it wasn't great the whole way through. I guess I had higher expectations.

Really not distinctive at all

Liked it, I wasn’t crazy about it though. I would play it again as a background, but nothing stood out from it, apart from Africano.

It's alright, personally love "That's The Way Of The World"

A cool and smooth funk/soul album. There is a lot to like about this album. The songs are easy going and soulful. The rhythm section is just butter, especially the bass, which is basically all fills throughout the album. The vocals come of great, clear and powerful. The lyrical themes are ones of love, faith and peace, they have almost a gospel like, preaching, feel to them. One thing I didn't like about the album is the mix, not sure if it's just the version I listened to, but the mix is quite harsh and too bright at times. Even the bass is strong, giving this a slight V, which is never good if you are after a neutral, revealing and clear sound. I was between a 3 and a 4, giving it a 3 in the end, because, even though I enjoy the genre, I am not sure I will listen to the album again.

The music is rather good, a nice blend of soul and funk, but I don't like a single song on the album. Two stars is too harsh, but I don't feel it's good enough for three.

Fun funky soul, I think there is better Earth Wind & Fire though. Outside of shining star nothing is too astounding

Lät väl ganska bra!

begon als funky disco... daarna verwaterde de formule wat

Good funk and soul album.

I love this genre, but I was bored. Can't help it.

This album has it all - funky bass, funky guitar, just funky everything. Cheesy lyrics and overblown vocals, but suits the whole vibe.

catchy, great to do homework to, very much so also a morning album

Pretty darn good

Not my preferred music genre

Groovy, aber nicht die allerbesten Lieder der Band

Solid.

Says 1970's. Does not really stand the test of time.

Its good, but not sure I love it Worth finding on vinyl? Maybe need more listens 3/5

Great disco/soul. I enjoyed the first half alot. The second half was a little less my speed though.

Ok started off funky but lost me a little as the record went on

Perfectly enjoyable

Decent album

macht Spaß, auch ohne einen der großen Hits

Great band but not my style

6.5/10 Jazzy soul & R&B with African influences. Not always viscerally thrilling, but really well but together and performed. Layered vocals were excellent, as was the vibraphone-sounding instrument Best: Reasons

Definitely some cool bipity bops. Gravitated more to the upbeat tunes, SHINING STAR and AFRICANO

Nothing special

Didn’t really captivate me but not bad

I love Shining Star and a few others

Oh hell yes. Good for bopping about and hoovering

great tunes for doing housework, though i have to admit i probably wouldn’t be able to pick any of these songs out of a lineup even having just listened to it.

Started very strong. Lost my interest a bit in the middle. Africano was back to the funk that I enjoyed. But the lull in the middle kinda ruined the fun.

EARTH WIND AND FIRE YYAYAYAYAYAYA

Coming in strong with Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack bops.

War mir zuviel Sopran und nervige Geräusche. Trotzdem funky. 3 Sterne, Gruß und Kuss

sultry

YAWHHHH YEA!

Groovy Bit Boring

Альбом не запоминается, но и не раздражает совсем. Довольно неплохо звучит.

Good album from famous band. 3.5/5

Overall, it's an interesting listen but doesn't quite hit the hights of my expectations because the album feels uneven in some places.

This wasn't so much soul as some funk/Rn'B combination and I liked it more than Al Green, but still not enough for a 4. The first half of the album - fresher, more playful and funkier. The second half, and especially the last 2 songs pushed it more towards soul, and even with elements of jazz, I would say. But only 8 songs and 38 minutes, easy to listen to, feel good again... And again 3/5

Не понял

muy bimba y lola muy señors

Kind of what I expected. I imagine if you were of a formative age when this was released, it’s probably pretty magical and brings back a flood of nostalgia. Alas, I am not of that age. So although I recognize it as a sweet, good time, it doesn’t really grab me. I think it’s good, for what it is, but not exceptional.

I’m not much of a soul guy so it was a bit surprising how pleasant it was

This kind of music just really isn't my jam. It's too much lovey dovey feel good type music. Just not my vibe. Musically it's fine, they sound fine. Falsetto is a little much and a little too often. Plus side album isn't very long.

strong start.....then kinda lost focus a bit.

Classic soul music. Great vibes and good music. Not an everyday listen for me but when you get in the mood nothing beats this classic sound.

Another album evoking nostalgia of Seventies childhood. I enjoyed the first side but the second one has a few tracks that altered the mood.

This was pretty good but I expected a little more upbeat dancy funk for some reason. I say solid 3.5 but goin down for me.

Honka honka burnin' luv 🎺

Old school soul from EWF

Classic soul vibe

Solid songs. High 3

I like Earth, Wind, and Fire, but I'm not sure if I would put this album into the 1001 best of all time. Some of the songs from it, but not the whole thing.

Digging it.

No está mal, música setenta negra

Schön entspannt

When it’s good, It’s really good

-it was good, i dont think it was necessarily my type of music cuz it had a very r&b jazzy sorta sound to it. i still enjoyed listening to it -i think I liked shining star and that's the way of the world but I don't remember it too much so it would prob change on a relisten

some really fun bops! honestly so soured for me by working retail at a place that played this incessantly, but i still have love and respect for it!

I really enjoyed this. Every so often I’d catch a riff that sounded modern and familiar and I’d be reminded of how influential this band was. Loved the big band element - it felt almost jazzy at points. Mostly have this three as I don’t want to peak too soon!

Only know of the band through the hits. This album demonstrates a breath beyond them. Nothing exceptional but grooves along with infection.

A bit disco and a bit soul. pretty good in both directions. lyrics are pretty bad and all sound the same. Favourite songs: that's the way of the world, yearnin', learnin', reasons, africano. Overall around 6/10

Nice R&B album. Not particularly something I go for, but I am glad to be exposed to it.

Pretty good.

Is fine.

I remember this album cover from my neighbor's dad's collection when I was like in 4th grade. I was fascinated by their flashy look and coolness. I had a EWF tee-shirt by 1981, always liked their sound. Can't say I've listened to this album in its entirety until now. Opens with two huge hits in "Shining Star" (such a great intro!) and "That's The Way Of the World". It's a fun album with some great tracks, amazing horns, funkiness and a dance groove. "All About Love" was hard to listen to and doesn't stand up well at all today. But then you get to "Reasons" which is such a great ballad and you forget about the one or two weak tracks. While it wouldn't make my T1001 list I did enjoy it.

I liked! Loved finding sample origins also. Standout track: - Yearnin’ Learnin’ (4/5)

Love this stuff - shining star is a classic.

Pretty fun

Feel good funk music. 3.5 stars

Einige gute Tanzlieder.

Me decepcionó, cuando vi Earth Wind & Fire esperaba algo muchoooo mejor Calificación: 6

More soul than disco, not bad, but not for dancing.

Good and some great, but not their best album.

I can appreciate it, but its not my fav genre. Totally had a banger or two but even then I felt like you could take it in in one listen.

ой такие эти черномазики смешные

Groovy, catchy and fun, but nothing to super special about this record, it was just play ol fun. Overall score 6.3/10

This was pretty OK, but not so good that I can't wait to cue it up again.

Not for me

Good not my taste

See the Light i think is my fave. i do like these songs and they feel very nostalgic but lowkey some of the singing on a couple of these songs is not great. the alien beep boops are done way cooler in this album than any i’ve heard in recent years. some of the instrumentals are suuuuper creative very much in a rainforest or smthn rn or one of those somatic healing vids on yt

-this is giving me flashbacks to tenth grade color guard when we did an Earth, Wind and Fire themed show. they have some absolute bangers with September and Let’s Groove -this album didn’t really do it for me quite as much as some of their other work. some of it was a little corny. good classic disco tho so I can appreciate the significance -Favorites are Shining Star, Happy Feelin’, and Africano

Pretty good

Albúm bastant chill, que no és del meu estil però que té alguna cançó top que no em saltaria.

Solid funk but missing something to be truly captivating. Favorites: Reasons, Shining Star

a little surprising - and disappointing - how at only ~39 minutes, this still felt like it dragged a little.

funkeeehh makes it feel like you're in a the opening scene of a 70s cop show

All about love was way too self indulgent. Strong bass playing throughout

Shining star is a classic, Title Track is fine but Africano and Happy Feelin' are the two best tracks, don't really care much for the rest. I wanted more horns, more groove and for the drums to do anything interesting. Bass & guitar player rip, and I can get down with some xylophone. I'll round up to a 3, but I feel like I'll look back on this as generous.

1975 we were deep into prog rock so we’ll see… Liked Africano - nice flute. Can here the early sounds of disco in some of the songs.

Shining Star is an absolute banger...helluva way to open an album. Wish there was more funk and less ballads. This is a 3.49 ⭐️, so it rounds down to 3.

First time listening to a whole EWF Album - it would have been good if they could have cut loose Africano style more

Yeah, it was OK.

6/10 Bardzo przyjemne do posłuchania

This was fine, preferred the more upbeat funky numbers to the slower R&B ballads. Probably won’t listen again.

Funktastic Mate!

This is #day116 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... this ain't the worst kind of music you can get on a Monday morning, right? I'm not a soul guy, but I'm OK with some funk, and this was rather funky. Overall, it's a pleasurable listen, specifically the first half, and then it goes a little sporadic. I'm giving it a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day117.

Another 3, honestly probably more of a 2.5. A couple of these were pretty good, but too many sloooooow jams. Zzzzz.

I had high hopes for this, but it fell flat for me. I enjoy funk and soul a lot, but this was just OK funk and soul.

Decent funj but nothign mindblowing

Good energic funk that prequels the Disco mania that was to come.

Your usual 70s funk record that is good enough to have a pleasant listen, but I wouldn't say it's a keeper. Anyway, cool record!

Meh I like elements of a lot of it but not how it all comes together in the song. Still some great songs on here and could see this growing on me Rating: 3.3

Smooth radio friendly funk/jazz/soul. A few tracks hit the spot and there's some nice exotic touches here and there but the ballads are a bit too MOR for my taste

Too much crooning on this soul filled album and not enough funk. It’s ok if you like that sort of thing. Perhaps this is best played in the evening. Maybe turn down the lights, open a bottle of red and see if your lady… … fancies watching the telly instead.

Great opening track, downhill from then on but still some occasional funky grooves going on.

I really wanted to enjoy this. Some little funky nugget of joy and groove, but it was a little wishy washy and I just lost interest.

Fine. Slick, funky (but not as chewy as, say, Parliament get) and tasteful. I'm not keen on the falsetto vocals, but this purred away nicely in the background

Overall I found this cheesy, but I like Africano and Shining Star

I fully loved this album - super upbeat and super fun to groove to as well, I really liked the drums in this, disco drums are something else man. Anyways it was a great album.

Somewhere I heard you are either a Sly and The Family Stone fan or an Earth Wind and Fire fan, and I fall in the Sly camp. There were many moments in here I enjoyed. Obviously these guys are masters I appreciate the prog/jazz stuff. That said, with EW&F I always feel like I'm not quite getting it. This listen I kept thinking about that term "Plastic Soul" that worked so well for Bowie but for some reason here feels like a kitchy tourist trap or something. I reserve the right to become a huge Earth, Wind and Fire guy at some point, but that day is not today.

Yet again another album I had heard singles from but not the entirety of. it I'll keep it in the collection

Not my cup of tea, but shining star is always great

Was good, had some classic hits. Liked the variety (vocals, instrumental, etc.) and liked that it was short.

Not my thing but not unpleasant.

Very competent musicianship and quality pop songwriting merge in this funk and soul album with some jazziness to it. The instrumentals on some songs, particularly the more up-beat groovy ones, are simply delectable (mmm bass). The slower are more soulful songs are all well-done, but I just prefer their higher energy fun side. Overall, I appreciate this as a musician more then I care to listen to it for enjoyment - it’s well-done but it’s not all for me.
