Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Cinnamon Girl is one of my favorite Neil Young songs, great start to the album and the highlight for me. Not sure why Down By The River and Cowgirl In The Sand need to be 10 minutes long, those extended guitar solos are...well....extended. Great songs, but twice as long as they need to be. Good album overall.

Solid 6.5/10

average

Not his best, but certainly not bad

I don’t really anything negative or positive to say, sounded good and the instruments where great

432/1089 - Why the hell does this guy have 9 albums on the list? Also why is this one surprisingly decent and groovy and not a pile of whiny lacklusterness like normal?

Poor singer. Boring songs but melodic enough

Generally pretty good. Some longer songs but I was only half listening so I just occasionally noticed the same song was still going on and on.

Pretty good! I liked the mellow vibe, feel like this was great for my nerves after a horrible day at work

The standout tracks are Down By The River, which meanders along nicely and Cowgirl In The Sand, which is very gritty. See what I’ve done there? The rest is standard Young which fails to get going.

I enjoyed the instrumentation on this album. A bit better than On The Beach.

Some great bits to this

= the Beatles

Neil Young’s 2nd solo album, you can hear his sound starting to expand from his time in Buffalo Springfield and become much more experimental. The track order does a good job spacing out the lengthier songs which kept me engaged. Down by the River is by far the best track on this album. If I had to mark a point when the 70s really began for music, it would be somewhere between this album and the altamont free concert. you can most definitely hear this albums influence not only through the 70s but beyond, which definitely adds to it’s perceived timelessness. This can be confidently cited as the starting point of Neil earning his title as "the godfather of grunge" HOWEVER Neil and Crazy Horse will go on to make much better albums than this.

Pretty chilled record this. I can picture myself enjoying this on a road trip. I don’t know too much of the story about Neil Young and CSN/CSNY so I can’t comment on that, but suffice to say, I enjoyed this and will look into listening to some more records by him. Not sure what else to put here, giving three out of five as there was nothing standout to warrant a four. Standout track - Down by the River

Cowgirl in the Sand is a top 10 Neil song.

Ikke det feteste av Yung Neil

Solid Neil Young album, found a few new songs:)

Neil Young twice in a row.

Not a Neil Young fan, apparently. Seems pretty generic to me

Great turn out from Neil. You know the guitars are plugged in when you see Crazy Horse is in the house. Some great tunes, but I always thought Down By The River was a little long...

Have to be in the right mood for Neil Young, it seems that I wasn't today. Some decent songs here, but I prefer his music less classic rocky. I quite like the country inflected miserableness of "The Losing End" and the vibes of "Down by the River" I find "Cinnamon Girl" a bit overrated. and the rest of the songs forgettable. On the right lazy day, a nice album, but not my favorite of his or one that makes the must revisit list. 3 stars

I love Neil’s music but not his voice. Still, a good album with lots of great blues-rock guitar work.

Good Neil Young album but not my favourite of his. Enjoyable. 3.5.

hay cosa

I liked the heavier parts of this album, but the rest is just fine. The atmosphere is nice—especially in the longer songs—but it’s not particularly exciting. Folk rock is not exactly my thing. This album is too calm for my taste, but it could be worse.

I saw Neil live once and was entirely underwhelmed. I think he has grown on me since that time.

A typical Uncle Neil album of hit and miss. The standouts are ‘Cinnamon Girl’, ‘Down by the River’ and ‘Cowgirl in the Sand’. All 3 are superb blues rock. The rest falls short for me.

Mr Marmite strikes again. This time with a much better taste. Is it the man or is it the backing band that made this much more enjoyable than his solo efforts? Probably.

I still don't get the appeal of Neil Young. I mean, if you like him, cool. I won't yuck your yum, but its just not for me.

A very chill album, but I dont really have stand outs, and I probably wouldn't seek this album again. 5.7/10

It’s a classic

Ok album, could use more rock.

It’s just not my fave Neil Young album…. Found my mind wandering…

oh hell yeah this appeals to my 60's careless non-drafted american nomad fantasy which will never happen not crazy about these slower paced tracks but it might be just me right now wth are they doing on Down by the River, I was expecting the track from baldurs gate not this absolute shredding why does running dry sound so much older than the rest I was expecting a much higher tempo album from the opening track, overall I might just not be in the mood for it right now yet I must rate it

Day #3 - 8 Mar 2026 Interesting harmony choice for Round and Round. Laid back jams, easy to listen to. 3.5

Hoge 3.

To he honest, there's one or two decent highlights on this album, but yet again the twangy, agricultural Americana guitar sound is a turn-off to my ears. Had to hunt this down on a alternative platform, so ads were a blight. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (5/10) Total reviewed : 248 Already owned : 57 Purchased : 13 To buy list : 3 Nope : 175

I wasn’t paying too much attention while listening to this album. The album feels homogeneous. It’s giving they are trying to rock out but it didn’t quite work. It is a cool concept tho if I was in the mood for more folky calm-ish stuff. Will definitely try this album again when the time is right.

this album starts out a little slow. the first few songs didn't do much for me; cool guitar riffs and neil's voice is always pleasant. then we get to "down by the river," which to me is really the center piece of this album. i get why he placed it smack in the middle. impassioned singing by neil, funky guitar plucking, good overall vibe. i love the guitar solo too. i think if the album had more of whatever he put into that song, i would a little more excited by it. it's a good record, but it doesn't really do much for me. it's worth it basically just for that one part in the middle of the track list when "down by the river" comes up and neil goes absolutely nuts. the rest is very competent obviously and technically it's still very good music, just not that exciting to me i guess. other stand outs for me are the title track and "cowgirl in the sand".

country rock? 1969, pretty fun, might listen to some of it again

6 - AVERAGE

No my style

My rating 3.3. This was better than the first offering of Young’s from this list (On the Beach). Again, songs are fine. Raw but from reading about it that’s what Young was aiming for.

Neil Young is alright, but I don't think I really missed out not hearing this album before.

Sleepy time cowboy music.

Favoritas: Down by the River, Running Dry y Cowgirl in the sand

Cowgirl in the sand was a standout for me. Feels like an album to get lost in thought on a long drive. Lyrics don’t stand out to me as much

Rugged but approachable and rather real lyrics wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. Favorite Song: Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)

summerween vibes ✨

Quantity over quality country rock. Some nice storytelling all around. Surprisingly buzzes right in my ears compared to modern standards for country. Gripped my attention pretty solidly upon initial listen. (3.5/5) mood: 👍🏽👍🏽

There is a distinct difference between classic rock guitar riffs and guitar riffs that are full of emotion. Neil Young is one of those artists that bring out the emotion in their guitar. While, in my opinion there are better Neil Young albums, I still really enjoyed this. Maybe not quite a 4 level, but very close. Running Dry was the standout track until Cowgirl in the sand came on. 3.5 stars

Cinnamon Girl: EL SOLO DE GUITARRA DE ESTA CANCIÓN me vuelve loca Down by the river: 9 minutos d puro arte. me pareció una banda 2 canciones de 10mins en un solo álbum. banca loco

Very simple. I’m all up for basic, “vanilla” music. This one, particularly, wasn’t my favorite in the slightest but I could still see why there are some people who like it very much.

i am a known Neil hater -- or at least non-appreciator. I think it's mostly the vocals that rub me the wrong way. So I was surprised I didn't hate this! He's clearly a gifted songwriter and the Crazy Horses are holding it down, and this is close enough to CSNY that i can get into it. top track: Down by the River

I don’t usually like Neil Young, but I wasn’t upset with this.

A good guitarist and songwriter, cursed with the voice of a muppet. Every time I start grooving to one of his songs, he starts whining over it, completely taking it. I’ve ALWAYS had this problem with Neil Young, and I don’t really understand why most people don’t. This album is no exception. I tried to like it, but Beaker should never have learned to talk. It’s better than a lot of the albums I’ve given 2 stars to… so I’m inclined to round it up to a 3. But I might need to revisit that later.

Oh Neil Young. Never been a big fan. This was listenable. There is something very... earthy about his songwriting arrangements and vocals. A very down to earth no nonsense style. I can see why people like him. I can see why people can't stand him. This album is quintessential to that love or hate for him. Me? I'm riding straight down the middle.

This caught me a bit off guard after a shaky start on account of actually being decent. There’s definitely less of the usual annoyance from Neil Young the singer, allowing the ensemble to be enjoyed. The lack of a tinny, high pitched sound means it sounds less corny than I’m used to and genuinely found it quite pleasant. A scary state of affairs.

I was more interested in the band musically than Neil on this one.  "Down by the River" was an example where less Neil and more music was what I enjoyed.  Great little guitar meander. Moody and easy listen. What can I say I just don't like old man Neil's voice as it pisses all over the musical bonfire. My only thought is I might look up the band he collaborated with as that might lead me somewhere interesting...

Before: I was never a big fan of Neil Young. He's obviously very influential and a lot of people love his music but it never really clicked with me. During: Cinnamon Girl, I remember this one, but I think there is a version I like better. Oh Lord, there are 7 Neil Young albums on this list. Really? One is plenty. I would not have more than 3 albums by any artist and then, only if they are very different from each other. Further, there are only a handful of artists I would allow 3 albums on a list such as this. After: I don't have anything else to add. I'll give it a 3.

Noodles away a bit after a very strong start with “Cinnamon Girl” but a solid three stars for this.

This was really good. The guitar work is really good and everything was super entertaining. I really had a good time with this album. The use of different instruments this time was really cool. Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "Cinnamon Girl" , "Round & Round (It Won't Be Long)" , "The Losing End (When You're On)" , "Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)" , "Cowgirl in the Sand"

I dunno man, Neil Young is cool, this is good, loose west coast rock. It’s worth listening to and understanding this artist and this period. It just doesn’t really do anything vital for me.

Понравилась пара треков - Down by the river, Running Dry, Cowgirl in the sand за счёт своей музыкальной составляющей.

I enjoy this but would I come back to it? Probably not. I prefer other Neil Young albums to this one but it is nice to hear the rock edge this record has.

Very good album. Enjoyed the listen.

Couldn't decide between a 2 or 3 but didnt want to be mean honestly. Round & Round was kinda catchy and Down By the River was pretty good. The others didn't really stand out to me though

Bit of a mixed bag but some tracks were great

Better solo Neil Young than Crosby, Stills and Nash. 3

Pretty good. Falls in line with the folksey stint I've been on lately.

Highlights: Cinnamon Girl, Down By The River. In a nutshell: folk rockin' in the real world Despite the 9 minute track which is mostly a jam session, this is one of the more tolerable Neil Young albums. One I would recommend to a new listener over Rust Never Sleeps (which was overproduced to no end in my opinion). Overall: 5/10

Overall the album was mediocer. Some songs hit, others didn't. To me it sounded like there were few masterpices (like round&round, down by the river (didn't like the solo tho) and running dry) and others were just fillup. Also why were cowgirl in the sand and down by the river so long?? I don't really understand long songs esp when they sound mostly shit. Make it short and good. Long songs can be brilliant (I like dream theater and tool for example...) but if you can't do them good it is just a waste of time.

Wel leuk

Real loose rockin'

It's fine enough and I don't hate it but for the most part Neil Young has never inspired anything in me other than apathy. 3.5

better than the last nice guitar bits, added a few to playlists

One of his best.

I groaned when I saw I had to listen to Neil Young today because I typically can’t stand his music, something about his voice just grates on me. However, this album wasn’t too bad. I enjoyed the music and his voice for the most part wasn’t as annoying to me as it usually is. (3)

The good songs are very good, and the album tracks are very dull. But this is half of his greatest hits right here.

His voice is so so nasally. People keep raving about this lyrics but I thought they were so mid and obvious. The best part of this album was the guitar solo in "Down by the River". Title track was also great and so was "The Losing End". Basically pretty high highs, super low lows. I would give this a 2.5 if I could but I'll be kind and round up.

It was alright. Neil Young is overrated. Big fan of dog on the album cover

Some cool moments especially with the vocal harmonies but the whole thing was a bit boring. Instrumental sections went on for too long in my opinion. Round & Round was by far my favorite song

Ehh. Uninteresting. Nostalgia carried it to a 3. Solid 3. Enjoyable but I don’t need to re listen

It’s not my favorite Neil young album but still good!

I’m a big Neil Young fan. His second album had a couple of great songs. Cinnamon Girl, Down by The river and Cowgirl in the Sand. But overall this was slow and not too memorable

I was expecting this to be worse, but it wasn’t that bad. High 3

greAT guitar

I definitely needed a second listen for this one Had practically 0 impressions my first run through but I warmed up to it a little. Cinnamon girl was cool, I like the harmonies throughout the album and there’s some fun guitar solos in there. I just really don’t care for the super acoustic sounding songs. I can tell Young is a supremely talented musician, but I just don’t get any banger vibes from anything in here. I’ll say this one’s definitely better than Crosby, Still, and Nash, but I definitely wouldn’t put this on in the car.

Honestly wasn't too crazy given that there's a crazy horse somewhere in there

Stupid app destroyed my review. And I tried to save it this time. Good, not great.

CSN was good without Neil Young. I don’t rock with this album, but I can’t say that this album was bad. It was just an okay album, nothing more to say about that.

I’m not sure how often I’ll find myself reaching for this to listen to but i did enjoy it! Listened while at work, which seemed kind of fitting. For me Neil Young’s albums always consist of two or three banging tracks but the rest a bit meh. This is no exception. Down By The River and Cinnamon Girl are the standout tracks but the rest don’t really do anything for me. There’s a lot of music Neil Young has produced which is exceptional either on his own or with CSN&Y. He has a greatest hits album that I love but made up from multiple decades and albums. So as a singular entity not so good but as part of a collection, fantastic. Did I need to hear this before I die? I’d probably agree

really folky fun

1/29/2026 - Listened during morning work. Liked this more than I thought I would and recognized a few of the songs. Top song - Down by the River

I enjoyed this album fine, it didn’t blow me away but it was pleasant to listen to! I generally like most of Neil Young’s work so I would say that this is a solid album and I would listen to it again.

“Cinnamon Girl” is the first song and it set up the album nicely for me. It’s an overall nice song to listen to. The first three songs I enjoyed. The song “Down by the river” is great but is a long song. It contains long bits of just the instruments though I like the beat it’s just not worth it same with “Cowgirl in the sand” although I like it a little bit more. I like the vibe of the album. I enjoyed the song “The Losing End”. Also the song “Running Dry” has this melancholic sound not only that but it’s heavy on the violin.

Well, the fact that he had a fever of 103 degree makes sense because I don’t know much what this is about. Something about cinnamon, shooting someone by the river, remorse, and a bit of a slog through emotional mud. That said, I kind of respect it. I mean, he wrote music while he had a fever of 103. It’s a hazy, rambling, weirdly honest, like flipping through his notebook and seeing moments of delirious truths.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse – Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is a "decent" and technically solid entry in the challenge, but one that ultimately lacks the "replay value" to enter my personal rotation. While the LP doesn't feel "empty"—thanks to the "telepathic" interplay and great production on long-form tracks like "Down by the River" and "Cowgirl in the Sand"—it fails to deliver that "triumphant" spark that makes a discovery feel essential.I can respect the "unrefined" musicianship and the "vintage" atmosphere Neil Young creates here, but it doesn't quite "unlock" a reason to return. A simple 3/5 that marks another high-quality but "low-stakes" detour in Month Two.

A country song which is nice. But not up my taste

i try to get Neil Young but i almost always come up short. not really so much here though. the title track and Down by the River are both pretty standout country rock songs. it doesn't go 7 for 7 but i get the appeal. deserves to be one of the 1001? i mean i do see the argument but you gotta cut some of these Neil Young albums man

Like Neil young but this was new to me. Bit mixed but some good songs and the rest was inoffensive

60’s Rock ⭐️Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)

Not normally my thing but some of the guitar work on this is gritty and very bluesy. A few more straightforward C&W style tunes that didn't float my boat. Made it onto my Liked list...

I thought the album was ok. Expected to like it more tbh. 1 song saved

I think his biggest strength is the instrumentation.

There were some really good songs in there and some….. not so much. It got pretty old by the end of the 40 minutes but I see myself listening to som of the songs again

A good listen. I'm not sure about the 9 minute song in the middle of the album, maybe disrupted the flow a bit, but apart from that I liked it.

Slightly dull at time but generally pleasant and inoffensive.

I really really love neil young and whilst i recognised alot of the songs on this album, i was slightly disappointed in his lack of differentiation nothing wowed me, it was just ok

Neil Young just can't illicit any emotion in me. He is a mid artist with a mid sound. I get why some people hate him and I get why some people love him. I am neither.

Neil young baby

Was a four initially, but I had lost some enthusiasm come the end

Cinnamon Girl, Round & Round, Down by the River (wenn's 6 min kürzer wär)

Not bad

Good album. Not a massive fan of Neil Young but this second album with Crazy Horse musician’s is good.

I've not considered myself much of a Neil Young fan from what I've heard. The album started the way I expected and I anticipated I wouldn't enjoy anything, but I will admit the longer tracks took me by surprise and from "Down by the River" to the end I thought they were all solid tracks. I found myself really enjoying the vibe and some of the guitar work. I take everything as it comes and as I enjoyed about half the album, a 3 star rating is about fair. Not my regulsr style but you can still be surprised.

Running dry reminds me of ween's 12 golden country hits

"Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" by Neil Young with Crazy Horse is an album I did not have much experience with before, as I have never really listened to Neil Young all that much. Overall, it felt like a perfectly ok record. It is a nice mix of straight rock and folk rock, with Crazy Horse giving the songs a bit more grit. Still, nothing on the album really stood out to me, and there is not a whole lot to say about it. It is not bad at all, just nothing particularly special either. All in all, it was fine, but it did not leave much of an impression.

"Cinnamon girl" is great, I've always loved that song, "Down by the river" was pretty good when he wasn't singing but the rest of this album is not for me, I really dislike his singing voice. Some of the jam sessions were kind of boring and wandered around but it was better than I expected it to be. I think i'll go with a 3 here

Enjoyed the stripped, rawness of this

This is the third Neil Young I've had, I think, and it all very much hits the same. I admire the man, I like his voice, some of the songs are pretty great, but I'm often bored.

Liked "everybody knows this is nowhere" and "running dry", rest sounded rather bland

Oh yea I like this. Get me a Ford Pickup, the plains are calling.

Inoffensive

Our own decisions

Pretty average

Scruffy

Jeez another Neil Young’s album for this week. I preferred this one though because it had more variation and it was more energetic. Liked the violin on “Running Dry”.

It’s giving sad vibes but I’m not loving it

I said to myself "I'm not going to like this album" and then I didn't mind it. Although for some reason I did feel like I should be staring at an empty apartment before I close the door and fade out to a time in my life. It just has that vibe.

Nice folk album, just not my preferred style of music.

Played it through a couple of times - forgot it was on. Not bad, but not memorable. I much prefer Young's later stuff.

A different style than I usually listen to- kinda folky. There were a couple of songs that I liked, but the end of the album was somber and dragged.

Not my usual listening style. Calm, chilled. Pleasantly surprised.

It was good vary country and old but good need to listen again

Not my favourite of the 326 Neil Young albums in the list. Doesn’t really go anywhere until the final track, which is a stone groove.

Alright

Musicas desnecessariamente longas e repetitivas, apesar do incrível instrumental 3/5

Sounds like the soundtrack of an American road trip, one with highways through deserts and plains and valleys and whatever. I’m not American and also cannot drive but I have a great imagination. Ultimately not an album I would reach for but one that I don’t mind listening to.

cinnamon girl be groovy asl everybody knows this is nowhere lalalalaallalaaa round & round vibez i like acoustic down by the river very long the losing end also groovy but not AS groovy running dry is soooo arthur morgan wild wild west cowgirl in the sand pretty good but long 3.5/5

I listened to half of this

good but not my style

Liked it, good background cooking music would listen again

This album wouldn't be something I usually listen to, even if it is oldie's music which I love. It kind of makes me feel like a cowboy sitting outside his log house watching the sunset. Even though its a longer song, I really like Down By The River.

i enjoyed but it wasn't quite my style

I quite liked this album, great vibe

This was a solid reintroduction to Neil Young (I listened to Harvest a few years back). The vocals took me out of the album often, which is strange, considering Young is known for his vocals. The music was stellar though, easily proving this as a great album. The longer the song was, the better it sounded (in most instances). Gotta say, Cinnamon Girl near ruined this album. It is a dissatisfying first track to an otherwise decent folk rock album. The lyrics, the music, the vocals--god, the vocals--worried me for what I was listening to. Thankfully, it only got better, for the most part. Best Tracks (in no particular order): - Cowgirl in the Sand - Down by the River - The Losing End (When You're On)

Every song is good, few are great

Actually pretty good!

loved some of the instrumentals and really enjoyed Round and Round(it won’t be long). However nothing else on the album really stood out to me. Personally, It was okay, I might not revisit (except for the song Round and Round) but I can see what makes the album significant.

Really good background music. On the boring (though well produced) side when actively listening.

Overall soundscape is definitely to my liking, but none of the material is super memorable. Vocals could be better. Idk. I enjoyed my time with it but it's likely a one and done. Best tunes: round & round (it won’t be long), down by the river, the losing end (when you’re on), cowgirl in the sand

-good album I think my favorite song is cinnamon girl or the losing end -remind me of sublime a little

1. cinnamon girl is very catchy, something I’ll listen to on a road trip tbh or when I’m feeling late 60s/early 70s, iykyk. 2. Everyone Knows This is Nowhere, not my personal favorite but I’m chill with it. I know you country folks know this by heart. 3. Round and Round, I would definitely listen to this if I’m feeling folky or on a rainy day when I’m isolating myself or just wanna relax alone. 4. Down By the River, is this a confession to mvder?? Son?? What?? 5. The Losing End, I’m sorry that person did you dirty son. I hope you emotionally recovered after that experience. 6. Running dry, I can feel the emotions thru the instruments rather than the vocals. Like damn son, what happened. 7. Cowgirl In the Sand, WOAHHHH HOLD UP ‘OLD ENOUGH TO CHANGE YOUR NAME’ I forgot yall folks was something else back then. I like the instrumentals but damn… mmm idk Overall, 3/10. 2/3 songs I liked however not my cup of tea. Thank you tho.

I really liked some of these songs, and I really lime Neil Young as an artist. But I wasn’t blown away by this album in general. The sound is cohesive but not my favorite. Top Songs: Cinnamon Girl, Round & Round (It Won't Be Long)

A little disappointed given I was told this was his best album. He's definitely better with Crazy Horse than without. 3 solid albums from that combo now which is more that most artists produce

I've seen mostly polarising reviews, and not sure why. The album is actually not bad, yet also certainly not awesome. 6/10

I liked this album, especially due to its acid/psych rock tones.

This is one overrepresented artist, even if the album isn't all that bad.

Nice album. A few very good songs and a few that are less interesting.

I liked it well enough, don't really have much more to say.

I like it

Boring

Alright, not too notable

Decent I guess. Bland generally.

Top 3 white guy with a guitar.

This would be a one star but for some reason Cinnamon Girl has always been one of my favorite songs. I like Neil Young, but just one song at time. Is there anything wrong with that?

A few too many guitar solos. "Harvest" is one of my few 5/5's, but couldn't get into this album as much. A little bit too much country.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was a pretty good album. It has definitely been a while since i looked at one of Neil Young's works and this one is a pretty good reintroduction to them. It has a pretty good balance between both soft and melodic tracks as well as some more hard rocking tracks and each variant had some good songs in them. The music itself for the most part sounded fine even if i'm not the biggest fan of the way that some of the instruments are recorded, same goes with the vocals. The album itself did fly by though meaning it never felt too tedious. I thought that this was a solid album, just not the greatest. Best Song: Cinnamon Girl Worst Song: Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets)

Pretty good.

Good listen overall. Some of the guitar solos approached Dave Matthews “jam-band” status. Not really my thing but good in spite of it.

This was a good chill listen, enjoyable background music with some fun instrumentals

It good

Rocks pretty hard. Probably will never listen to any of these songs ever again.

Fuck off Neil Young, there is too many of your appearances here. Some nice music by Crazy Horse forces me to give this more then it should have.

Not Neil's best

Här finns det fina titelspåret, Cinnamon girl och Down by the river.

i appreciate the country vibes

Neil Young is another artist that I've been fairly lukewarm on since being exposed more to his artistry through this list. This isn't a bad listen by any means, the first half primarily has some memorable and impactful tracks such as the driving and high harmonic "Cinnamon Girl", as well as the instrumental journey and saga that is "Down by the River". The second half didn't quite stack up to the first, with the exception of "Cowgirl in the Sand" I guess. A top-heavy folk/country rock record with more electric instrumentation than what was usual at the time, and thus giving us these riffs that would later become iconic to some.

Really good bluesy songs here and there, but not sure if I'd listen to it again. 3.5

I listened to ‘Harvest’ waaay too much in the ‘90s to the point of completely going off Neil Young’s voice and vocal style…

Neil Young has been quite a presence on this list, and for the most part I can understand why. There are some good rock and folk songs here, but not much to set it apart from other Young albums and justify its inclusion.

Never been a Neil Young fan, but some of these where his voice isn't so warbly are pretty good.

semi-enjoyed but not as much as the other albums so far

Some nice tracks though some were a bit long/meandering at times

Nothing stand-out, but alright enough for background listening.

11/12/25. I'm lukewarm on Neil Young, but some surprising grooves on this one! Will need to listen more to grasp the lyrics, but enjoyed on my first run through.

Mostly, through and through, some solid rock and roll. Down By The River and Cowgirl In The Sand were pretty nice, and both had great guitar solos, but they were a bit long and could use some cutting up. Running Dry was an absolute pleasure, with a smooth and chill vibe, and more incredible guitar work. Solid album. Best song: Running Dry

Ei löytynyt mitään ihmeellistä tältä. Ihan jees kuitenkin.

Plus a star for Down By the River.

it was alright

It's was what I expected from a Neal Young solo album... A bit slow, a bit tedious

Giving this a 2 doesn’t really feel 4. It’s hardly more than a 3 for me though. Cinnamon Girl Is pretty good. Down By The River just reeks of misogyny too much. I kind of liked the Requiem song.

nemrossz

listening when: home alone during the afternoon feeding jules thoughts: this was cute. a little slow for me but i loved it rating: 6/10

Gotta be honest, it was nothing special for me. Pretty standard late 60's-70's fair.

I like Neil Young, I really do. People who say he's basic are forgetting that he is the forefather of a lot of great grunge music. That said, I cannot abide a 10 minute song. I'm sure it was cool to make on whatever drugs Neil Young was on, and I bet it would be cool to listen to on those drugs, but it was too much for sober me on my commute.

Great guitar with interesting lyrics.

Personally not a fan of Neil Young but I liked it more than I thought I would. His voice and vibrato are more tolerable when he’s young and the back up harmonies help. I enjoyed the songs and the long guitar riffs

Really enjoyed guitar in Down by the River

Enjoyed less than after the gold rush. 3.

This was fine. Nothing spectacular, just pleasant enough background music. Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand went on way too long

I like the parts with the sung harmonies and the sweet basslines, buddy did not need to take a 5-minute honking solo

Not a whole lot to say here— I’m in the minority (I think?) of people who believe Neil Young is the weakest of Thursday’s supergroup. Not bad, just not nearly as interesting. Sure, Down By the River is great, but I don’t like the other tracks as much as The PeopleTM seem to (especially Cinnamon Girl; for some reason that song just irritates me lmao I am so sorry)

I think the Y needed the CSN from yesterday to really get my attention. Many of these songs were almost it for me, but ultimately didn't have the get-up-and-go that maybe three more dudes hittin the harmonies would've added.

3.5-4 Lots I enjoyed here, but nothing that I really loved.

I listened to my first CSNY album (Déjà Vu) just a few days ago and enjoyed it a fair bit, so I was interested to hear what a Neil Young “solo” outing would sound like! Frankly, I think Young is better off with Crosby, Stills & Nash attached. The tracks centered around Neil’s vocals honestly came across as either forgettable or outright annoying to me. I was genuinely leaning toward giving this album two stars until it started showcasing some instrumental depth on Down by the River and a couple of the subsequent tracks. Ultimately, the instrumental-focused cuts are too good for Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere to get anything less than three stars from me. Big ups to Crazy Horse and Bobby Notkoff! Highlights: Down by the River, Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets), Cowgirl in the Sand

too folky to go any higher but solid enough

I love the Neil Young songs that are the most popular, this album was just okay for me.

Love me some graaain. I've been indoctrinated to love NY from birth but I will confess he's still at an arms length. Maybe one day my palette will mature to appreciate his strummin' and twangin'. OK - maybe I eat my words a little, some tracks sounded Eagle-esque and you know I love that non-bird entity. NY we may have a promising Q4.

Some of the jams go on for too long but some nice bits here

Good, but not exceptional.

this was fine, i feel like he's got more in him.

Chill, dad rock

Best Song: Cinnamon Girl. I have fond memories of hearing this song on the radio as I drove through the prairies. Worst Song: Running Dry. Ol' Neil really needs a bit more tempo in his songs. This plodding pace does his voice no favours. Overall: It's pretty good. Not my favourite of Neil Young's offerings, so I really doubt it needed to be included on this list, but it was still alright to listen to.

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Ganz nett.

Klassiche Rockmusik. Gut hörbar, für mich kein Highlight. 3/5

Standouts Cinnamon Girl Everybody Knows This is Nowhere Cowgirl in the Sand

Early Neil Young ain't half bad. This was slightly too timid for my liking but as usual he killed it in the production, vocals (in collaboration with Crazy Horse), and overall vibes. I wasn't asking for much but Neil Young delivered either way. Very good! Top 4: Cinnamon Girl, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (la la la, la la la laaa), Down By The River, and Cowgirl In The Sand no bad songs 3.55/5

This site seems to be digging up blasts from the past for the last few albums. It's been a long, looooooong time since I listened to the last Neil Young album - 246 albums to be precise. I listened to Neil Young so long a go, in fact, that my reviews were still shitty and bad when I reviewed Rust Never Sleeps. Ah, such halcyon days. I think I remember the vocal style of Neil Young, though I can't say I cared much for his music beyond that. Maybe I'll like him more on this second go. Hey, not bad! I wasn't actually expecting to like this album and was wrenching out a fake smile through that last paragraph (I am well beyond tired of all of the 60s pop rock albums that this list has inundated me with), though this proved to be a leg above the rest. Stylistically diverse, varied with some very strong guitar hooks. What more could you want, really? There's admittedly quite a bit of dead air during the second half, though this album has a solid framework - and one that could grow on me with future listens. "Cinnamon Girl" is a pretty good opener. Some very nice punchy, raw guitar riffs, and Young has a very pleasing vocal style. The title track is an even better follow-up. A subdued country influence is paired nicely with some sweet guitar hooks to create a pretty engrossing tune. "Running Dry" is a solid late-album track. Very sombre and soothing, with some nice strings at the end of the track. Book time. Hoo boy, this entry is right next to the dreaded, cursed Trout Mask Replica. Released four months after his debut album. Stylistically diverse. Nothing else in there beyond that, though I don't need much convincing with this album - I liked it. I cosign this inclusion.

Interesting, not a huge fan of the solos on Down by the River, they aren't exactly bad, they just sound like things I've played as solos on guitar in jazz groups, and just aren't as polished as you usually expect from a studio recording.

Some cool songs. Long jammy guitar solos.

very cute album<3 not exactly what i would listen to on a daily basis, but actually very nice album all in all! 6,5/10

Neil Young is not really my thing, but I appreciated the guitar and general instrumentation of Crazy Horse, and I respected Young's earnest and earthy lyrics. Cinnamon Girl is the only song I recognized, and it's really the only memorable track among the seven.

Not the worst of his albums I’ve had on here, I think Crazy Horse add some interest. I’ve still think I’ve heard enough of him. You can stop giving me Neil Young albums now

Really liked the guitar on this album, some songs were pretty catchy. Some were slower and harder to get through. I think this is pretty middle of the road. Standouts were "Cinnamon Girl" and "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere." Solid 3/5 for me. The album started off strong but I felt the energy level drop off. Not bad but not exceptional. Listen for the guitars then probably never again unless you're a bit Neil Young fan.

Does not stand out to me

Listenable

Love the jams here, but some songs do outstay their welcome.

3.5 if i could

Is it the best Neil Young album out there? No, not by a long shot. But it's still a solid effort.

heard this before years ago so i was familiar with about half of it and it was alright, some songs were hard to get through but the songs i liked i thought had a really cool sound

I liked this more than I thought I would as a historic Neil Young hater. I still don’t love his voice but I did appreciate listening to this!

Good... but nothing special. I did, however, appreciate the curation/editing. A tight album seems rare from what I've noticed.

Good album, nothing that had much of impact on me one way or another , liked most of the other neil young albums on the list better

If you like Neil Young this is great if not it's so so 3.5*

05/09/2025 This didn't set my world alight, there didn't seem to be anything special here. Spotify listeners: 10.8 million, 2.5 million.

Fairly neutral on this album. Some songs whip, others go for a tad too long. Not bad by any means, but not one I anticipate will have repeat listens

Another decent album by Niel Young. I prefer there chance in style to a more grunge rock after this, but there are some great singles in this album

Alright too many 9 minutes songs

Great record and wonderfully produced. Cinnamon Girl is an all-time favorite of mine.

Favourites: Cinnamon Girl, Round & Round (It Won't Be Long), Down by the River, Cowgirl in the Sand

It's not Neil's best - but there's some awesome songs on here, Cinnamon Girl, Cowgirl in the Sand, Down by the River.

Tender, gentle, beautiful stuff. Ran over by songs like Round and Round, but didn't connect with the longer, less focused stuff like Down by the River

Was enjoyable. Nothing stood out too much, added one song, but was a good listen throughout.

znatno bolje od prethodnog nila janga! (after the gold rush). ipak nije nešto što bih ovako slušao. solidno u svakom slučaju

ugh 3/5

Not bad! Pretty chill, good background noise

not my taste

Fun guitar solos but otherwise boring

Neil Young is cool. I like the opening track

Took multiple listens at this, and it grew on me, but not enough to get it to the four-star mark.

There are some things in here that I really like, but it just doesn't come together for me on this listen.

This guy again. It's fine.

A fine album with some classics but this is not my fav Neil Young

A little too folksy but good. I loved Cinnamon Girl already.

I think it's fine, it sounds like a lot of music from the era. The lyrics may go over my head, but they sound like they were pretty drug fueled (which is fine, but they don't make much sense to me.) I am enjoying the instrumentals in "Down by the River" but the lyrics are about shooting his girlfriend dead ... so I don't love that.

It was okay - didn’t blow me away but wasn’t bad by any means

Didn't love it or hate it. Would be fine as background music

Alot more jammy than I thought it would be. Solid Neil Young album.

This was an alright album, definitely a bit outdated though, but chill. Overall, it was alright having it in the background, as it was nothing intense.

3.5, country-ish // western-ish music (idk its neil young)

felt like average rock, felt pretty content listening to the whole album but nothing really stood out to me

Considering I hated the last Neil young album I didn't expect much. But I did however enjoy the album, couldn't pick out any key songs but the whole thing worked well and I enjoyed it

Not a fan
