For 1968, holds up surprisingly well. Monos too.
Okayyy
il tre più politico che io abbia mai dato
La vibe da fake-Beatles è forte in molto punti, ma non è malissimo.
Didn’t realize I would recognize a couple of these.
I'd never heard of The Zombies so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought the first track was pretty bad, but experience on this site has taught me to be patient and the album soon got better. There were a few more 'poor' tracks but overall it was pretty good. I'll go with 3 stars, but it is probably 3.5 stars in reality (but definitely not 4 imo)!
I’ve listened to this a couple of times in the past when going through old psych stuff. But to be honest I struggle with this being described as psych. Yes it’s got a tinge, but it’s primarily just a 60s pop record with just as much in common with the beach boys. It’s pleasant enough but nothing really gets me excited at all. The last song maybe the best because the keyboard parts are a bit more unique. The only remarkable thing for me was this is a British band, I always think they sound more US.
This was late 60s psychedelic Baroque pop at it's best, but even at 35 minutes, it's a bit tiresome for me. However, it gets a 3.5/5 just for the song "Time of the Season."
Middle of the road 60's bubblegum pop that seems to want to be psychedlic rock, but couldn't pull it off save for the last track on the album
Good overall, didn't feel particularly special. But still A fun listen.
Fun and goofy - I prefer "Begin Here" to this album but it's got some great songs!
3.5
Very 60's. Some of the harmonies are reminiscent of the Beach Boys.
Again, fine
Is there another album more emblematic of the mid-60s? Time of the Season has long been played every 5 songs on classic rock stations. And for good reason! Such a great song. This album has great harmonies and is varied enough to keep you interested. I particularly liked “Beechwood Park” and “Butchers Tale”.
Okay, unremarkable except for 2 terrific songs
Okay album.
I liked it!
this is just a me thing but i can’t ever stand the way songs from the 60s are mixed, everything just sounds like it’s coming out of a can, so, that’s this
Fav: Maybe After He’s Gone Least Fav: A Rose For Emily Second half was a bit disappointing
Either the Zombies were inspired by the Beach Boys or vice versa. The melodies were impressive. Some of the choruses were great. Not much caught my attention though.
I liked the famous one
Haven't heard of the zombies before, but I really enjoyed the harmonies. Reminds me a lot of the Beach Boys. 3* because it's in the right direction but not enough. Highlights: a rose for emily, this will be our year (I heard the ok go cover first)
This album sounds amazing! 1968 is crazy… Love the sound of it… although not every song is very memorable, some are pretty good(Hung up on a Dream and especially Time of the season) Overall, a pleasant listen.
Maybe this should be called “1001 Songs” instead of albums. Cause this is a great song… referring, of course, to Time of the Season. I mean really great song. The rest is pretty bland stuff. One Hit Wonder? Don’t know enough about them to judge. But this is a monster dish looking for a home on a better platter.
First track is Care of Cell 44. It's an upbeat song of someones lover returning after serving a prison sentence. While the song is nice, well produced, mixed alright, whimsical and comical with a unique attitude, I'm unsure what it provides towards this album, or what this albums significance is. I'll see soon as I hear the rest of the record, so we'll see what the next track brings. Next, we have A Rose For Emily. This is a more somber song, depicting the loneliness of this Emily character. The production is great, and the song is heartfelt, a good transition between tracks. It's a tragic piece, both well done. But after that, we have Maybe After He's Gone. It's a somewhat Igor-esque song, telling the narrative of maybe if her mans is gone, she will finally love me. These songs are turning very tragic and dark, this all reminds me of a Shakespeare play. I wonder if they all connect. Very good sounds though, lyrics are great on each, production just keeps getting better. Love it. Then, we have Beechwood Park. This is a song reminiscing of times two spent in the park, and how good they had it. I enjoy it, but ti tends to clash with the narrative/ theme currently playing. Still, good sounds, production and lyrics are fine. No major complaints, yet. We then have a song titled Brief Candles. The song is about memories, thoughts and emotions being compared to candles, how easily they burn and leave. The records going from comedic/tragic to just plain tragic and cut-throat. Just a lonely cold wind, and idk how to feel about that. Also, not big on the mixing on this track, nor where the narrative is going, it's just not blending well in my opinion. Oh well, the nxt track provided is Hung Up On A Dream. This song does fit the past few songs, being an existential soliloquy about a dream that was had that can't be forgotten because of how magical and wondrous it was. I think its a great track, lyrics are beautiful, production is amazing, makes me feel more hopeful, and I can't help but smile, I love it. After, we have Changes. This song probably provides the most unique production on it, with a huge array of instruments and vocals done. The song discusses how a girl changes with time, looks and personality, and in general. It's a good song basing how humans are human, and there will always be change, it hosts a true beauty and has personally my favorite production of the record so far. Loved it, absolutely. Following that, we have I Want Her, She Wants Me. The song is about the dangers one may feel of getting into a relationship, despite how one feels, they fear love. It's a real relatable song, and again, plays well into the narrative, but I think the production hits a dull point. Not a big fan of the vocal mixing or the drum patterns, it doesn't fit well to me. Not all bad though. Then, we have This Will Be Our Year. The song is about staying hopeful, in play of a "new years resolution". It's a sweet song, but I'm not really a fan of the production, I don't like the piano on it. But it has alright lyrics with a fine sentiment, not too bad. Just not as blown away. Now, we're on Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914). It tells a magical story of the perspective of a german 1914 soldier. It's a dark story thats been told dozens of times. Its played well and perfectly pictured. The production goes out of it's way again, lyrics are pretty perfect. Back in its element. Second to last, we have Friends of Mine. The song is a point of view of a person who's in a third wheel, his friends are dating, what he sees and thinks of it. It brings the vibe the first songs played, it's funny, and a simple song. Thoroughly enjoyable. Finally, we have Time of The Season. The song plays out the album simply of an acclamation of ones love for another. Production is great, but for the wild journey this project was, I'm not at all impressed by the ending narrative wise or lyrics wise. What I make of this project is a simple perspective of life. Different points of view, emotions, all the lovely things that make us human. There's an easing simplicity to it. I don't think it's that special and thats what makes this project as beautiful as it is. Just an ode to life, and what a beautiful life it is we live.
Classic
Looking at this through 1968 lenses, this is a pretty solid album. It surprised me because I only knew this band through their hit "Time Of The Season" which was the last track. Every song that preceded it had a totally different vibe and sounded like a different band. It was all good and I enjoyed it. 3.5/5
Diet The Beatles. Favourite track: Hung Up On A Dream.
I liked this! Though it definitely feels like it was made in the 60’s.
Sixties, innit. Pleasant nonetheless.
Boring
...I'd rather listen to the Beatles if this is the style. Was probably going to give this a 2, but the last song bumps it up.
Soothing and forgettable. Nice to listen to outside.
Gives beatles
Odessey And Oracle is a fine album but it is one of those albums that i feel that i don't really have a lot to say about it. The Zombies just feel like one of those bands that feels stranded in a sea of Beatles clones that were incredibly prevalent throughout the 1960s. That's not to say the album is bad though, the songs definitely had their good moments and had some fairly unique sounds to them, the album was a short one that i feel is a perfect length for something like this and there is nothing the album does that's particularly wrong or anything, I just think I'm searching the bottom of the barrel just to find things to really say about this album. Best Song: Butcher's Tale Western Front 1914 Worst Song: Changes
I think maybe 60s music just leaves me flat. Its not bad, but just cant get any kind of reaction from myself on this one. 3/5
beatlesesque
I've never heard this album before. A bit dated and jarring at times with flourishes of ...psychedelic accordion? Some likeable songs, like a soundtrack to a 60s British movie. 'This will be our year' made me happy. Everyone knows'Time Of The Season', surely, which leaves a nice taste in your ears as the album ends.
I kinda get why it wasn't a hit at the time. Time of the season is good, catchy anyway, but the rest of the album wasn't all that special
Pretty good. Couple surprises.
It really is the time of the mf season. so classic. For some reason i really payed attention to the drums while listening to this one and that elevated the experience, but this is the type of music that i’d put on when everyone is talking over it. And then everyone would sing time of the season because that song is just so mf good top 3: time of the season, butchers tale, beechwood park
This a pretty decent album, quite easy listening and some occasional bops scattered throughout.
The first track sounds like the most feel good song about someone coming home from prison. By “A Rose For Emily” , the songs lyrics are much somber and darker in a way then the sound. If I wasn’t paying attention on the first listen I would have thought I was listening to a generally okay feel good album. Nothing like harmonizing on a song that contains lyrics “I feel I’ll never breathe again, I feel life’s gone from me”. I appreciate the writing. the sound I was getting over after several tracks. I like this much better than the early The Who albums with similar sound. My standouts were Beechwood Park and definitely Time of The Season. Time of The Season just feels too cool for the album.
I like this as I said this is so 60s but it feels fresh still and does its own thing. First and last song are awesome and this is a good listen probably a 4 but im gonna go 3
I was somewhat familiar with the Zombies, but had never heard Odessey and Oracle. I'm familiar with the massively well-known "Time of the Season". But the rest was fresh to my ears. As far as the album goes, I would love to have heard a full set of songs in the vein of Time of the Season. But the rest of Odessey and Oracle (released in 1968) sounds a lot like the Beach Boys albums of the same period (Wild Honey, Friends, 20/20, etc.). It's enough of a soundalike, that I could easily have been duped into thinking this was a lost Beach Boys record. None of this is bad. In fact, it's quite pleasant. But Time of the Season is the obvious highlight. And nothing else from the album really sticks out. I wouldn't turn it off. But I also won't be seeking it out again.
I think I’m getting senioritis with this list because while this is by no means the worst psychedelic 60s album I’ve gotten. It’s actually a pretty good one that I’d probably like with enough time separation from this list but I had much less patience with this one than I probably would have had if it had been before the 1000 mark. I couldn’t help but just zone it out while I played balatro.
Fun
Care of Cell 44 - 4 A Rose for Emily - 3 Maybe After He's Gone - 3.5 Beechwood Park - 3 Brief Candles - 3 Hung Up On a Dream - 3.5 Changes - 3 I Want Her She Wants Me - 3.5 This Will Be Our Year - 3.5 Butchers Tale - 2 Friends of Mine - 3 Time of the Season - 4.5 So close to adding to my liked songs. Not bad, but a little slow and lacking for a large portion.

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. It's very easy to listen to, but nothing memorable to be had.
I was good to hear others songs by the Zombies. It is not very likely that I will return, but still nice.
Groovy artwork. Don’t believe I’m familiar with this Monkees / beach boys vibes. Harsh stereo separation Overall not surprised ‘time of the season’ is the only one I’ve heard. Weak 3 stars, pleasant enough
Groovy
Pretty good. Nothing really stands out besides “Time” , but overall was still a good listen. 3/5 Might listen again
There are things I like, but ultimately almost fell asleep driving my car home from work.
2.5
3.5 stars. The hits are good, but the rest is kinda filler weaker Beatles-esque redux. Standouts are the piano-driven sing-songy “This Will Be Our Year” as well as the psychedelic “Time Of The Season”.
This album was just okay. I think the band's name is apt — not because they're scary, but because most of the music is pretty bland and boring. It's like being zonked out on meds. I knew the big songs — "A Rose for Emily," "Time of the Season," and "This Will Be Our Year" but not much else. Not a huge fan of the former, but the other two songs are good, definitely the ones I liked most. "Butcher's Tale" is also good, and the only song that really says anything interesting. The rest of the album is very meh. It's like a combination of The Beatles' blandest hits with some Partridge Family mixed in (and maybe some Carpenters). It's all very mid-tempo, very pretty bordering on twee, and not very interesting. 3/5 — not bad per se, but just kind of ... there.
Strange off-key-sounding harmonies. Fun psych rock. One brilliant song: time of the season
It was okay ish
hippie, british, alright
Fine. Easy listening. Reminds me of the cranberries and Beatles world
Not as good as their more raw early stuff. Classic case of Pet Sounds / Pepper ruining a perfectly good album with over production
Красиво звучит, но альбом совсем не запомнился. Напоминает чем-то группу The Beach Boys, но в спокойном стиле.
Muy bueno.
Good
Wasn’t a huge fan of this one and then Time of the Season showed up. Saved the best for last!
For me it’s not bad but at this point in time it’s not new to me. While I can respect that they were around the same timeframe I still think the Beatles and even The Beach Boys did it way better. I’m giving a 3 out of respect
Begrudgingly like the Zombies. Such copycats! Doors, Beatles, too many “The” names. This has about twice as much of the zany weird and adventurous decisions as your average Sgt. Peppers track— perhaps more at times, more indulgent and fun!— but about a third as much good songwriting. “A Rose for Emily” really has something going for it. Great song, shifting smartly between chords in a really satisfying way. Same with “This Will Be Our Year.” Terrific. The rest (“Changes” a good example) is so indulgent that it’s hard to get really invested. “Time of the Season” is really good and one of those you would be ecstatic to find in a dusty record bin. 3/5, good example of this period but not outstanding.
Decent, just not my cup of tea as I find that I have to be in a particular mood to listen to this style of music. Came away with two songs; Beechwood Park and Brief Candles. 6/10
Ei kamala mutta ei mikään hyväkään. Perus 3/5 rokkia.
Better than a lot of McCartneys efforts
There are some really good songs on this album - Care of Cell 44 (sounds familiar but I don't recognize the name), A Rose for Emily, This Will be Our Year, and the big classic Time of the Season. Friends of Mine wasn't bad either. But there are also some clunkers - Beechwood Park, Hung Up on a Dream, Changes. These songs have too much of that buzzing or wispy psychedelic sound. Butcher's Tale was a mixed bag - some very clever lyrics but the organ has such an eerie sound, like the harpsichord on the Stranglers' later-released Golden Brown, which I always found annoying. The album was better than I thought it would be and got better with multiple listens. But I don't think I can go above 3.5.
An alright album. I didn't realize The Zombies did the song Time of the Season, so learned something new. Other than that very generic. 2.5/5 -> 3/5
Pretty up and down album. Overall I'm pretty impressed with how good it sounds for being from '68, especially the vocals. The first song, 'Care of Cell 44' was pretty good and sounded fairly fresh! Generally it was hard to find songs that grabbed me, but they ended on a high note with 'Time of the Season', which was the best song of the album hands down.
The first song "Care of cell 44" was great, like a psychedelic "Beach Boys". The rest of the album was pretty decent but i struggled a bit to keep interest or singling any song in particular. A good ending with "Time of the Season" which is a classic. When I feel for som 60s chill psych I can see myself put this on. Much like similar artists like "The Kinks", "Beach Boys" or some "Beatles" albums.
A Rose for Emily is pretty brutal. Time of the Season is definitely used in some ad but can't remember where.
TIME OF THE SEASONNNNNN FOR LOVINGGGGGG This album is pretty good! Always nice to listen to old rock that I would never otherwise hear, when it's good at least.
Time of the Season is fantastic, the rest is forgettable.
Le iba a dar un 2, porque era un poco rollo, pero resulta que son los de Time Of The Season.
Very Monkees, very Mamas and the Papas, very '60s hippie pop vibe.
Good 60s pop. “Time of the Season” is all I knew before this. Some nice baroque sounding songs
Yeah, there's a few great songs on here. Unfortunately for me, 60's albums just sound too old in general for me to thoroughly enjoy. There's not enough going on 'sonically'. 3.5 stars for me, but if I was born in the 50's this would undoubtedly have been higher.
2.5
Good, a bit like Belle and Sebastian, some bittersweet songs
BEATLES
It’s good psychedelia, even if at times it just feels like an attempt to modernize the barbershop quartet or even chamber music. In the end, nothing is worth remembering aside from time of the season.
todo es culpa de los beatles (y antes los Beach Boys)
Some easy listeners - easy going but not enough ‘groundbreakers’ for me.
Good record. Not really My thing.
Would say bootleg Beatles, but they got some good stuff. Mainly background music igl
Bien
Great album overall. Favourites- beechwood park, this will be our year, friends of mine, time of the season
One good song.
Very iconic and weird that the Time of the Season was the closer. Very much a hippie rock flower child album. Not great but not terrible.
- immediately thinking beatles. like, very obviously, given the fact of same time active, and 5 white guys with bad haircuts / bowlcuts - sounds like music from the late 60’s.. wack… who would have thought! - feel like it would be cool to play on a sunny slow day. good to have chill 60s music that is not the beatles - i’m not really sure about it. think i may just not be in the mood for it - i think the british wobbly tone doesn’t work for every type of song. just found the staccato emphasis on every word doesn’t work - ohhhhh they’re the time of the season people. i do like the choral chorus of it, and the intro (clapping rhythm and exhales), but as a whole song i don’t love it yet
An album of it's time. This feels like the "quintessential" 60's summer of love sound. Easy melodies with clear vocals singing songs about love. . . ....and then there's "Butcher's Tale". Who would have thought that an album about love and good feels would need a shake up song about the horrors of WWI? Decent album, but will probably not listen to it again other than "Time of the Season" on my parents radio playlist.
Pleasant 60's fare.
Sounds like the beatles but probably the only remarkable thing about them.
Awesome 70's psychedelic rock. One recognisable hit Time of the Season.
Old school english rock band.
Never heard most of this before. Pastoral Nuggets. Pretty nice. Some a bit too English and twee, some quite Kinks-esque, some really quite experimental and fresh sounding. Thumb up
Better than I thought it would be
First few songs - Chill, I like it a lot! Kind of all blends together. Time of the seasons - ah, that’s why this album is on here. Otherwise I would say it was pretty mid
this will be our year has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but never listened to the rest of the album... is it bad that it is exactly what i expected it to be? fairly mid.
Pretty pop music mixed with late 60s psychedelia. Highlights: "Care of Cell 44" (Beach Boys-esque pop), "Hung Up on a Dream" (nice strings and guitar solo), "I Want Her She Wants Me" (jaunty pop tune), "Time of the Season" (a classic)
I thought this would be a bad 80s punk band, and it wasn't. The dread I had on starting the first song quickly dissipated, and by the end of the album I even recognized a couple of songs. Average
Not my cup of tea, honestly.
Smooth radio tunes
Good
Ok aber nicht außergewöhnlich
Hasn't heard of The Zombies outside of Time of the Season but actually really enjoyed this, pretty chill
Beatles in Soft, nett aber nich überragend
Ok 3/5
3.4/5 Best Track: Time of the Season
With exception of the last track, which is an absolute gem of a song this album isn’t all that brilliant. Not horrible by any means, there’s some interesting chord changes that go where you wouldn’t normally expect them to go. But certainly not something I’ll be revisiting.
I didn't realize that they sing "Time of the Season!" I really liked "This Will Be Our Year." I saved it to put in a playlist for my girlfriend. But some of the album wasn't really my taste.
Brilliant in places
3.5
A fine album but not essential except for time of the season. Butcher's Tale is a gem though. White's vocals sound like an Arctic Monkeys lost demo
Eu achei que gostaria mais pelo visual do álbum mas foi bem legal!
Eh boring to be honest. These British 60s rock bands don't do that much for me. Last track was good.
beatles-lite, really easy listening and ended very strong.
An ok album
I know this album is critically acclaimed and adored by artists I rate highly, including Paul Weller. That said, I have always struggled with it. There is no denying the craft. The harmonies are tight, the arrangements are thoughtful and it has that classic late sixties melodic charm. But for me, it never quite catches fire. It feels pleasant rather than powerful, and I find my attention drifting at times. I have even seen The Zombies live and, if I am honest, I found them quite boring on stage as well. The songs just do not have the bite or urgency that I tend to gravitate towards. There are moments I enjoy. Maybe After He’s Gone has a lovely melody, and Time of the Season is obviously a standout with its distinctive groove. But the first couple of tracks do very little for me and make it hard to fully settle into the album. Favourite songs: Maybe After He’s Gone and Time of the Season Least favourite songs: The opening two tracks do not grab me Album artwork: A great cover. Colourful, bold and instantly recognisable
Far out man.
I enjoyed it very much for the most part, especially the last song. 3
Groovy
In some ways, this was a nice palette cleanser after yesterday's absolutely madness, but it was a bit of a disappointment. The songs that I knew were good - Time of the Season in particular is a cracking bit of late 60s West Coast stuff. But overall, I felt that it drifted a little, and was often just...fine.
Solid.
Groovy baby... Your groove, I do deeply dig... but not my bag. Caricature of 60's carnies. No walls, only the bridge.
This is one of my favorite psych albums I've heard. The songs are catchy and very re-listenable. I hardly ever turn on psychedelic music, but this was enjoyable.
Nice and concise album! Time of the Season is pretty good (which is probably why it’s the only one I’ve heard before) and the rest are ok, but not good enough to earn a 4.
It was alright, another solid mid table album. Good album length. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I feel like a few of these songs could be in guardians of the galaxy fight scenes. Not a bad album but probably wouldn’t listen to it again.
The full album didn't download but I thought what was there was alright
If you have a conversation about the 60s then the Zombies have to be involved. Great album and all flows together well. 3.5/5
Not bad for a psychedelic album not by the Beatles. 3/5
Pas mauvais, Time of the season = méga classssique. S'écoute bien, vibe relax, pas stressé et rêveur.
I enjoyed the instrumentals but not the vocals
Gillar ändå 60-talet men det kan bli lite flummigt ibland. Time of the season och this will be our year är bangers
Ending song was classic. The rest was a bore.
I was slightly familiar with this one going in. An overall solid album. Not something I would listen to over and over but would toss it on time to time. Outside of the hit "Time of the Season", "Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)" was the tack I enjoyed most.
Heavy characteristics and similarities can be drawn to that other British, weird-pop band. However, these guys make their own flavor which is refreshing and delightful in some aspects, albeit sometimes mundane. The hits are certainly magical.
Better than early Beatles
Time of the season is a classic, the rest of the album was a bit disappointing
A good time but besides the last song (which is a 5/5) ut wasnt that interesting. They sound a lot like the Beach Boys
I knew that there was a band called the Zombies. And I knew a few of these songs. But I absolutely never knew that the Zombies recorded them. The album sounded good and I didn't lose interest, but this is a style of music that I'm just not that into.
Hmm. It's fine
It was good, listened to the album while driving and during Butcher's Tale I kept thinking there were police sirens behind me Friends of mine was really sweet song. As the last unmarried/single person in my extended group of friends, it was refreshing take from the woe is me type songs re: everyone around you being in love
If you like 60s music you'll enjoy this. Not one for me but I can hear how good this is. Worth a listen.
It’s ok. 3 stars
Wow I have many mixed feelings about this album. I actually quite liked a few songs but then I found other songs extremely annoying. Recognized two songs on this album.
This is one of those albums where I can’t evaluate technical excellence or composition well but I know I found it super groovy. It’s a fine example of what’s good about psychedelic rock, and I dug it!
The song "Time of the Season" is the only song I knew from this album. To me it feels like an album of it's time, the late 1960's.
"Time of the Season" aber weiterhin absolut großartig.
This was an interesting listening experience - I recognised the single from this but the rest was new to me. Definitely psychedelia with a distinctly English touch somewhere between Pink Floyd and the Kinks. I was interested to see that the band originally formed in one of the pubs that I used to frequent in St Albans, near where I grew up, so technically that makes them a local band for me!
I didn't know the band and did not read any information about them before listening, but I would have guessed that the band comes from the US West coast after listening to the first few songs. They somehow remind me of The Mamas & the Papas or The Beach Boys—except for the piano, maybe. Nice, but unspectacular.
Didn't hate it
Pleasant but I wouldn't choose to listen to this.
C'était vraiment chill et fun.
Mjög gott 60's rokk. Þægilegt og smooth. 3.5/5
Góð sixtís plata. Alltaf gaman að fá eitthvað skemmtilegt sem maður þekkti ekkert fyrir. Auðvitað heyrt Time of the season en ekkert pælt í flytjandanum. Mörg önnur góð lög, Care of cell 44 fannst mér sérstaklega skemmtilegt. 3,5/5.
Iconic song off of this is Time of the Season - almost doesn’t fit on this album as a whole. Nothing unexpected here except influence of Beach Boy type harmonies - especially on Care of Cell 44. I also liked Hung Up on a Dream.
The (arguably) most famous song on this album sounds nothing like the rest of it. I could hear so many influences through the earlier part of the album. A really nice listen overall.
Is this the first concept album?
Good psych album. Nothing too exciting.
surprisingly jammin
60’s groovy sound. Really enjoyed Time of the Season for which they are most famous for.
The Beatles?
Really nice. Time of the season is one of the GOATs.
Pretty cool
The beatles-esque.
Чиллово, психоделично, слушается нормально, но мне нечего об этом сказать. Actual zombie. Три балла
Always been curious about The Zombies because I always really liked their hits, like Time of the Season and She's Not There. They had a mysterious vibe to them with a touch of psychedelia, and I always wanted to hear more. I can hear the Beatles influence in the first two tracks, one year after Sgt Pepper. Quick search shows this was recorded in the same studio (EMI/Abbey Road) using the same four-track! Most of the rest of the album is more similar to early Pink Floyd-type songs than Beatles though. Besides Time of the Season, I think This Will Be Our Year and Friends of Mine are album highlights. While I can understand this was a cool album at the time of its release, I'm kind of disappointed. I was hoping for more of what made their hits interesting, but it's not really that. Overall, it's not something I would choose to listen to now.
Psych & barroque rock. Great album
I remembered and enjoyed the song "Time of the Season," but the rest of the album was forgettable.
Sure it was groundbreaking for its time. Kept my interest better than some other albums suggested on here.
Pretty good. It wouldn’t be the kind of music I’d gravitate to, but it was okay for a one off listen.
It's a close relative of the Monkees.
Great pop album, for the time. Kind of like a mix of the Beatles and all the other British rock pop that came out in the early sixties.
nice, but nid so mis
Felt very 60s. My favorite track was the first, but overall felt like background music to me, nothing really exciting.
Quintessential 60s pop music. Reminds me of The Beatles. Some songs reminded me of Rocky Horror Picture Show (even though the movie came out well after this album). This has never been a genre I’ve gravitated towards, but I can’t deny it’s easy to listen to.
Listened to it while putting groceries away and none of the songs grabbed my attention.
60's psychedelic pop with a little bubble-gum mixed in. The Zombies are solid musicians and have an upbeat, radio-friendly sound but it's pretty dated. I doubt you could find many listeners who wouldn't be able to pick this out as being from the 60's even with never having heard the band before. I like the Zombies (She's Not There and Tell Her No are my favorite tracks) but except for Time Of The Season, This Will Be Our Year and Care Of Cell 44, this is background music.
Ganz cool und wholesome,oldschool Rock
Mainly focuses on singing harmonies and dark lyrics. Amateur piano. Best piece is 1st tune “Care of cell 44” ( which has some surprising turns) and last tune “Time of the season “ which was the only one I had heard before. Grade: 3/5
Good harmony but not my type of music.
Time of the Seasons is the standout.
Good chorus of voices. The songs become a bit monotonous
All I knew about The Zombies was that they were formed in St Albans (I used to live near there). I wasn't expecting this to be mainly piano-based but it's a pleasant enough slice of late 60s whimsy. It's a bit too clean and lacking an edge for my tastes. I can hear the influence of Pet Sounds Sounds in the harmonies and maybe some Rubber Soul as well, but it doesn't approach the level of either of those. Altogether it's OK. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could.
Average 60s psych pop. Lots of harmonies which is the only good part of the album.
Le iba a dar un 2, porque era un poco rollo, pero resulta que son los de Time Of The Season.
First half of the album is stagnant, but the second half brings it around and adds some fun. Not much change in energy in the album. Time of the season saves it.
Really nice album. It's kind of like bubblegum psychedelia. Favorite track: Time of the Season
I like this! Good to listen to something out of my comfort zone for once in a while.
My favorite song is “Time of the season”. The other songs sound like a mixture of The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
Upbeat, happy music. 3/5
Mid. 'Time of the Season' is nice from time to time, I guess...
This was a nice listen. Some of it reminded me of early Queen…
For the most part, having Odessey And Oracle on this list feels superfluous since albums like Something Else by the Kinks are already included. "Time of the Season" is a key song in the genre, but it's not worth listening to 30 minutes of other songs to get to it. I think "Butcher's Tale" is good, but it is too dark compared to the surrounding album, so it feels out of place.
Hippiemusik für Blumenkinder, Time of the season glatt schon mal gehört.
1. 3.5/5 2. 2/5 3. 3/5 4. 3/5 5. 4/5 6. 3/5 7. 3/5 8. 2/5 9. 3/5 10. 2/5 11. 3/5 12. 4.5/5 = 3/5
Not overly taken by it.
Great album. Some of these songs all still fresh and up to date. You wouldn't know that they're that old. I enjoyed this album
Certainly not sure how this made it into the top 500 albums of the last century. Good album overall if you like the late 60's psychedelic sound. Seems like a rather interesting blend of folk and easy rock that you've never heard of until the last song and then you remember that one song. So essentially a one-hit wonder of sorts.
Chill vibe but a little mid
This sound exacltu how I expected it too. Kinda feels like an undiscovered Beatles album. -B (eatles)
Enjoyed this one. Sounds like a Beatles album kinda. Kinda forgettable might be my only critique. Time of the season is all time
Very baroque 60s pop rock, good melodies and vocal harmonies. Not my favorite genre though, it's decent. 3 Repeat:care of cell 44, this will be our year, friends of mine, time of the season Skips: rose for Emily , butchers tale
3.4 -
#56. 3.6 roetgen. Not great, not terrible. 3/5: acceptable
Very Beatles-esque
Not sure how original this is, mostly okay and pretty easy to listen too.
Not what I thought it was going to be. Less garage, more baroque. Actually, good overall, but won't be a new favorite.
I didn't hate it. Reminiscent of so many things at the time - Beach Boy harmonies, Beatles storytelling, a little organ to remind me of the Doors.
Beau et mélodique, parenté avec les Beach Boys, mais style différent
Had a bit of a brain fart on this one, fully going into it thinking it was a Cranberries album, and this lasted for nearly half the album as I was half-arse listening to it whilst doing notes at work, thinking maybe they'd just switched up the vocal leads. At the halfway point, after I finally cottoned onto the fact that this was not being sung by an Irish angel, nor was she potentially even born when this was made, I re-adjusted my expectations and gave it another listen. Enjoyed it a fair amount, some pretty fecking solid tunes on this. 3.5/5 Fav track: Time of the season
Pretty Good
I had heard this album once before. I like the first and last tracks (Care of Cell 44 and Time of the Season). The stuff in between, though, it's a tad too psychedelic hippie-dippie for me. A Rose for Emily is OK; it's trying to be a new Eleanor Rigby. The whole album is obviously inspired by Sgt. Pepper (for better or worse). Butchers Tale straight up sounds like the guy is doing a John Lennon impression. I think I prefer their earlier stuff like Tell Her No and She's Not There.
Tuntuu aika yhdentekevältä levylta tämä. Ei oikeen erotu. Mulle myöskin tuntematon lukuunottamatta hienoa time of the season -biisiä, joka nousee kyllä tällä levyllä omaan arvoonsa! Hieno biisi, heikko levy 3/4
Kiva levy, lopussa tutumpia biisejä. 3,5/5.
Puuh hieman alkaa tökkiä tämä brittirockin aikakausi, mut teknisesti ei kai mitään suurempaan vikaa. 3/5
Pretty good, but I thought the best song was the only one I already knew. Unfortunately the rest of the album isn't much like that song.
Fast and casual but pretty much every songs sounds the same except one ig
A good selection of 60’s tunes but a lot of them feel rather interchangeable Favourite Song: Time Of The Season
Relaxed tempo, classic psycadelic. Time of the season is a hardcarrying track on this album. Iconic bassline.
It was OK - kind of groovy - definitely a 60's time.
Bis jetzt cool, 3 Sterne. Letze zwei Lieder noch nicht gehört
Pretty, pretty, pretty good
Good album, but not a genre that's very interesting to me. 60s psychedelic just has too much jingle jangle for me.
This kind of careful, precise 60s pop isn't my thing, but I can hear that it's good. Not sorry I listened.
Un espectacular álbum de pop psicodélico, corto, disfrutable e innovador. Tomando las mejores tendencias que venían floreciendo con el catálogo de The Beatles, la banda logra lanzar un LP sumamente consistente y atrapante, que empuja los límites del género.
Personally, it’s not necessarily my cup of tea but it does have some enjoyable songs like This Will Be Our Year and Time Of The Season.
Very 60s. Twee. A fairly pleasant listen, but only Time of the Season is memorable from this album.
I like the Zombies.
Good album, would maybe put it on again but didn’t blow my mind
Interesting, I love those psychedelic, soulful sounds
Interesting album, some solid tracks. An album of it's time.
There's no way this is from 1968, it has a much more modern sound. The first few tracks are pretty interesting but it does dip back into the standard psychelic-ish styles of its era as it goes on, but it's short and sweet and deserves a 3.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Sounds surprisingly modern in the production for an album from 1968, some of the songs wouldn't have felt out of place on a Ben Folds album or similar. Songwriting is a bit clunky in places, but they do tackle themes that are a bit more grown up than a lot of the bands at the time. The opener was great, This Will Be Our Year also good. 3/5.
Quite enjoyable, although very typical of the time. Can see myself giving this a few more spins.
Similar to early Beatles. I like the single, of course.
Fun. Worth further listening.
"What's your name? Who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?" I'm a massive fan of the single T12- "Time of the season," so I was expecting the album to match that upbeat, poppy, yet dated and unique style of rock music that the song provides. With T1- "Care of Cell 44," I was excited because that song seemed to confirm my expectations, with a really great song off of the album that matches the vibe of a later, more psychedelic Beatles song, like "Strawberry fields." The rest of the album didn't quite live up to my standards, but kept with the Beatle-y theme. It all felt uninspired, and it's hard to try and match the style of the Beatles, while having clearly inferior songwriting abilities. I considered giving this album a 4, because of how much I adore "Time of the season" (playlist track), but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I wouldn't want to listen to the track again, as I'm not a huge Beatles fan, and especially not a fan of a knock-off Beatles. sorry Abby, it's getting a... 3/5
OK album. A couple good songs. Beatles-esque.
That was different kind of rocking. More chill and artistic. I quite liked it. 3.5/5.
Because I don’t know anything about 60s music I would have just assumed this was the Beatles. Feel good music. Who doesn’t like feeling good? “I want her, she wants me” they only sang into my left ear. Not a fan of that. “Butcher’s Tale” has a melody that is definitely in one of the Jack Box games. “Time of the Season” is a great way to close out the album. Overall I liked the album but didn’t fall in love. 6/10
Fun happy go lucky album. Fantastic final song that helped define a generation. Not a huge fan of this era in general but a very solid album. 6/10
I like the music and rhythm. Wish the guitar was easier to hear. Singer is great.
Very cheesy but ok
Devent
Very much enjoyed, easy listen
It's okay. Not really my thing, but I recognize a few classics.
Nice, upbeat and sort of groovy.
Pretty groovy. Good chill vibe throughout, with an excellent set of bookend tracks. Not a huge variation between tracks, however.
Not my cup of tea.
Best nice, laatste nummer de topper
3.5
I like. Late sixties Brit pop. Beatles and early Bowie vibes. Very English, including a startling condemnation of war in The Butcher. Time of the Season is a masterpiece that too much radio play can’t ruin. Production lyrics everything from the future. Those two are five star. The rest are good and would probably grow on me but not enough punch to rise above three. Surprisingly tame for a band called the Zombies! Strong three stars, maybe four with more listens.
3 voi ansaita relistening..Samalta vuodelta kuin elinen albuni kuullostaa 10v kypsemmeltä..
much more of a pleasant listen than i was expecting. downloaded the first two songs, last song and one in the middle somewhere
3.5 (rounded down) It’s hard for me to not compare psychedelic musicians/albums with others. This album gives you harmonies akin to post-Pet Sounds The Beach Boys or CSNY while giving you the sometime simple lyricism of the early Kinks. A Rose for Emily is easily the best example of this. Other songs, like Beechwood Park, offer interesting instrumentals and harmonies. Most of the album remains simple and non experimental compared to other psychedelic albums. Overall 3.5 because instrumentation was nothing unique to the genre, the lyrics were simple in places, but overall a genre I like and a solid album from start to finish that was a breath of fresh air from my previous.
what’s your name? who’s your daddy? 🌟 god I really love the name the zombies. favs of the bunch: time of the season, this will be our year, changes
Not my style
Heard before: Yes Favourites: Care of cell 44, Beechwood park, Time of the season Some pretty songs on this album. Starts well and ends well but I found the middle stretch of songs to be less good and a bit more forgettable.
It’s ok, nice production but no real standouts
Like The Beatles, but not as good. Easy to listen to. Last song is cool.
It’s fine psychedelic 60s rock, time of the season is a 4/5 song but besides that the album is just fine.
Really enjoyed this. They have an easy confidence - not afraid to try out new sounds or be a little weird or dark or sad. Seems like an album that I’ll like more and more on future listening. Let’s see!
oh! it’s the Time of the Season band. i missed it because everything about that track feels very different from the others—lyrically, musically, everything. when it came on i thought spotify had fininshed the album and was generating other artists for me
Time of the season is the all time classic on this album. I am not anywhere close to being alive in the 60's, but I imagine this is what is sounds like.
It’s poppy and psychodelic and really well mixed. Enjoyable listen and I understand the accolades it has received. It’s a tad too syrupy and gooey at times for my own personal liking but still really good. 3 stars
Beatles esque, but idk, wasn't super into it.
Yep that was the zombies
Classic 60’s psychedelic vibes. Some did it better but still good.
Groups like this were in a rough spot. They wanted to keep doing their Brit pop thing, but also cash in on psychedelia. So it never feels like they commit to either. Which is a shame, because I tend to like music that is firmly in one camp or the other. I felt this album was kind of vanilla, nothing really grabbed me on it. However, I didn’t rush to turn it off either. I would listen to it again, but I don’t know if I would ever buy it. Unfortunately the highlight for me was a song I already knew, Season of Love.
It's quite obvious they followed the Beatles. Not so much my tupe of music, but a little ell crafted album. I only recognized Time of the Season
60s psychedelia fav song: time of the season 7/10 I feel like hundreds of bands around this time had the same sound but I still liked it, the second half of the album with time of the season + this will be our year really help it to a 7
Hippy music
I've heard the hits but never listened to the whole album before today. Classic late 60s sound, still holds up pretty well 55 years later.
3.5
gostosim
I was hoping for something more psychedelic
Not bad, Beach Boys type vibes. Time of the Season is a great track. But sound gets old after a while.
Begon wel leuk, na een tijdje vond ik er minder aan, zelfs een nummer geskipt. Erg 60’s psychy achtig, Beach boys & Beatles vibes. Hoe dan ook, leuke listen en twee nummers opgeslagen
I like the "colors" this album gives off. Very flower power, very of its time, but I enjoyed it. It probably won't be a repeated listen, but it was good while spinning. Favorite tracks: "This Will Be Our Year", "Time Of the Season"
It may have been great at the time but this is just a worse version of the Beach Boys
Reminded me of early pink Floyd. Cool but nothing really special in my opinion.
I liked it. Then i got bored. Then i liked it. Then i recognized the last song. 3/5.
En kjent sang ellers så var d helt ait 3.5
Sehr fun, es an einem Herbst Morgen zu hören. Gute vibes außer Roses for Emily. What did she do to you bro???
I was surprised to read that this is such highly rated album. Much better stuff was made in the 60s.
Good shit, sounded very beatlesesque
