Experimental and out there but lacking purpose. I’m not sure why I’d ever want to listen to this. Occasionally the music reminded me of Tom Waits but Tom Waits is a phenomenal songwriter and performer. He has a way of drawing you in and making you think, “I can’t believe that music this strange is so compelling.” This album just sounds like pointless stoner experiments. I couldn’t wait for it to end. I think “Hello Skinny” was the only song I genuinely enjoyed. It’s got a cool, low simmering energy.
Pretty weird stuff. I tend to gravitate towards experimental / weird / underdog type stuff/art and I have to admit that this really didn't do much for me. Hard to find some positives if there really were any which is a shame. Not sure if this is an album that everyone must hear before they die. In between a 1 and a 2 but as of this listen it was a 1 for me.
Unsettling. Blue Rosebuds stood out, but I don't want to listen to it again.
For lack of better words: What in the actual fuck. I might never go near a duck again in my life.
Electrónica. Experimental. Una pérdida de tiempo.
I feel like my ears are actually bleeding. I wish I could give this 0 stars
I'm too tired for this bullshit today. But I still listened to it. This reminds me of Frank Zappa - do something offbeat and weird and people hail you as a genius. It's not genius, it's just offbeat and weird. 1 star.
Weirdly interesting
I knew it was bad 45 seconds into song 1. was a sludge fest to get through the rest. Ben is wild for giving it a 3, but alas life goes on.
They have more than 60 albums, and this one made it to the list... imagine their not-so-good albums...
Bunk
I imagine having a friend, one which I’ve bonded with over the course of many years. We know each others siblings. They are always extended an invite to hang out. I then image this friend telling me to check out this wicked band The Residents, telling me they are on the cutting edge of musical innovation, that they are creating revolutionary sound and that I have to listen to them! I then imagine never talking to this friend again. This stuff stinks.
More like Fart Rock.
what was the purpose in releasing this album? genuinely anyone with a low level of musical instrument playing ability with the recording equipment at their disposal could come up with something on a par with this. it's not musical, it's just fucking about. why would anyone choose to listen to this?
Sorry I tried, I really did
Duck Stab/Buster & Glen is the fifth album by American art rock group The Residents. It is a combination of their seven-song EP Duck Stab! with the unreleased EP/LP of Buster and Glen - released together after the Duck Stab! EP quickly sold out. It is an interesting collection of short songs that attained a cult following for its haunting themes. I did not understand the music on this album. It was dark and whimsical at the same time, but had an odd flow that felt choppy and sometimes off-putting. I could tell this band had a cult-following from the first song, before I even glanced at the wiki for an explanation of what I was listening to. You'll know it when you hear it. Only certain people will actually enjoy listening to these weird songs, and I do hope they enjoy it.
I have listened to many experimental/concept albums but this just makes no sense. There's no structure to this, I feel I can recreate this by using random tracks from a free sound effects website. Not impressed.
This is the first Album I bailed on. Goddamn
Not looking forward to this…
Wtf am I listening to
im not really feeling the vibe after constantinople i may have to stop at duck stab and leave buster & glen to the mystery of the music world im all for experimental music but this has very little to offer in the way of musical forethought they will really have to pull something out of the blue for me to get this above 2 stars the booker tease is very good laughing song feels like it must have been so fun to perform because it is so crazy i would just prefer to listen to so much other music it is unreal im also not interested in the music enough to expect much from the next song and i just dont understand how they deliver the exact amount of disappointing consistently every song im sorry i really tried to like some of this album but i would never recommend this to anyone especially myself because i just think no one should be put through this yes i know it doesnt sound like i was open minded from the beginning but i promise i was i just think it had crushed my soul a little bit i dont want to listen to the lizard lady rant over an out of tune synth okay im sorry ive even given up on duck stab now i cant put myself through it any longer im really sorry if the last two tracks were good but i just cant do it
One of the things humanity could do without
Raar
Yeah... this is the worst yet. Often why i dismiss "Art" music is because the goal is not new or inovative ways of making music (bebop was a great example of experimentation that worked and still was accessable to some) This is wierd for the sake of being wierd. It is made to have people defending it by saying "you just don't understand the complexity" or someting like this. But no it's not complex, it's just wierd random shit made for a specific range of people. It kinda reminds me of primus so if you want good experimental music in this vein but actually good, listen to them!
If their intention is to make art with something unlistenable then they’ve succeeded. Some catchy soundscapes but not full enough to become songs (maybe that’s the point). Not quite enjoyable
Album 82 of 1001 The Residents - Duck Stab Rating : 1 / 5 Favorite Track : Birthday Boy That is some weird stuff. More of a novelty recording than something to be taken seriously as "music". Got to take the bad with the good, I guess. This really sucked.
wtf is this
There isn’t enough space for me to write all the bad things I have to say about this album, and yes, I know there is no limit here.
Of course the longest album (almost 2 torterous hours) is also experimental unlistenable garbage. This is the soundtrack to Joker (2019)
What an awful album. This has no reason being on this list.
What a load of retarded shit. Sorry, I mean how artsy and intricate. 1/5.
Ok, daar was ik best benieuwd naar. Tjemig, niet te doen concludeerde ik al vrij snel.
Wat een ellende zeg
Blegh...
Wat een kutzooi.
Wow, I usually like weird albums but what is this? Genuinely, I mean it's just feels bad. I couldn't even finish the album.
Shite.
This has had a good stab at being the worst record we've had so far. Doesn't quite deserve it, but it's not miles off. It's like what a Red Dwarf set from the early series would sound like if you asked it to sing - vaguely futuristic, incredibly dated, weird, and absolutely awful if you concentrate on it for too long. 1/5.
*meme of Ben Affleck smoking* 1
Weird
More like ear stab
Excellent album, Robert est en grande forme en ce moment.
0.5/5
Another bizarre artsy pick that makes me reminisce about root canals.
I’ve heard enough this is awful. The penguin album deserves a 2 in retrospect. Best song: none
Wow, that's awful.
Mon dieu que c'est mauvais cette album là j'y comprend rien. 1.75
Wired it has to be a 1/5 but I did kinda enjoy how strange it got
Imagine, if you can, you stumble upon the missing works of Lewis Carol. Unfortunately despite being very LC they are a bit shit. You bump into your mate Cassandra who’s 12 year old son Travis has refurbished a 1st Generation Apple Mac. You give the works to Travis and he puts them to music using his ancient computer. That’s what this sounds like.
