Beautifully crafted
Bohemian Rhapsody!! Orchestral effects! Brian May guitar riffs! A blending of genres under the umbrella of one album! Still, it gets to be a bit much with the silly lyrics, choral arrangements and overall heaviness. Good for the occasional listen in its entirety… Better deconstructed and placed into playlists. 3.5/5
Really enjoyed the unique tracks that were new to me. particularly Love of My Life and The Prophet Song. Fun album! 4.0
Best Songs: Death On Two Legs, The Prophet's Song, Bohemian Rhapsody Worst Songs: Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendevous
One of Queens' best. How can you not enjoy?
I resented having to listen to another queen album when there’s so much else out there in this wondrous world of music. It just got better and better though. Inventive songwriting, completely individual. You’re my best friend and Prophets song are absolute greats. It’s not their fault that Bohemian Rhapsody is so seared into our minds that we fail to remember what a ridiculously good piece of work it is. And why should we?! Nice to take a cold look at it though. It’s good. What’s the point of god save the queen here? Anyone? Is it an ode to Brian may doing it on top of the of the palace or wherever it was. Either way, I’m tempted to knock off a star for its inclusion. I won’t though.
The thing that hit me whilst listening to this is just how overblown and dramatic, histrionic even, Queen sound - and how varied their sound. How do they do this without seeming like they’re showing off (Deep Purple), or oppressively hostile towards anyone who doesn’t “get it” (Jethro Tull). I can’t fully expound on what I think makes them sound so good here, but I’ll try some of it. Firstly, I think they’d have made this album and made these songs regardless of who was listening - so the songs sound completely unselfconscious, and alligned with who they are as a band. And then there’s the tension between Mercury’s style (flamboyant, theatrical, pop-leaning), May’s style (just wants to solo basically. He barely plays unless it’s a really cool riff or a solo), Taylor’s style (to pound the drums as bigly as possible) - and we’ll just assume Deacon was, as all bassists are, just happy to be there. Each member so totally embodies their preferred mode, that the disparate elements suddenly snap and cohere into a totally unique sound. It’s alchemy, and it’s great.
Great!
Loved bohemian rapsody, best friend and few other. All the songs were very musically colourful
To start, these songs sounded like fragmented misfires with no concept to cohere around. But wha'd'ya know? Another listen and the concatenation started to appear. My mistake was looking for thematic links when--duh!-- they're all stylistic. Which style is... well... basically it's prog--pseudo-classical ideas (virtuoso instrumentalism and long songs broken into movements) fused with thrashing guitars and stomping drums--but not as I know it. In other words, it's good (sorry not sorry Jethro, Purple, Floyd, et al.). And it's good because (didn't I say this about Sheer Heart Attack too?) at the and time as being silly as fuck and gay as hell it's also serious as the dickens. That trio might not be brand new in popular music but where else can you find it in prog? Some have tried, most have failed. These chaps pulled it off. I'm not sure it's ever something that *needed* to be pulled off. But in practice I don't care. While it's on it seems absolutely vital.
Feels weird to do a 'yaaas queen' joke here but I really want to do I'm going to leave my review like this in memoriam
Another classic, a banger, beautiful with a lot of good songs
Death on Two Legs, I’m in Love with My Car, Sweet Lady, The Prophet’s Song и Рапсодия — балдеж.
Classic album
Nice
I grew up listening to "Greatest Hits", so I'm kind of biased on picking my favorite Queen album, but I still liked this one a lot.
Full, unrestrained personality. Queen just does Queen so well (I wonder why that is...) and I can't stop enjoying how simply great this is. The compositions are large and perfect for a sunny day. Just radiant, I love them. And the best part is that it never gets stale! Queen keeps things fresh from song to song, such as the lovely acoustic ballad '39 or the soft and sweet Love Of My Life. I would be remiss to not talk about Bohemian Rhapsody which, though sorely played out, is larger than life in it's own way. Overall great album. We could all use a little more Queen in out lives.
Alleluia
Pretty epic. Love of my life is beautiful. You're my best friend :)
Queen is a great band but not all the dramatic stuff works for me. Still there’s obviously some very good songs here. “I’m in Love With My Car” has still not grown on me.. sorry Roger
4/5
an all time classic
Fun album. Better than I expected honestly
Yass
WILL YOU DO THE FANDANGO

I'm not the biggest Queen fan, there stuff seems a little all over the place for me. But, I still recognize greatness when I hear it.
It's Queen. Some straight bangers. Some very dated cheese. Enjoyable listen even thought 40 years later some of the songs sound like a parody of the era.
Having in mind that Queen is not a band I listen to often, I still enjoyed this. 4/5 would listen to again
Strong lyrics and storytelling. Absolutely fantastic guitar and vocals. Can't say I liked much the songs without Freddy as lead vocalist, I think they actually dragged the album down. Great ability to keep songs fresh by adding variations and keeping them unpredictable. Impressive experimentation with different styles of music, exotic or old-timey vibes and instruments (Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon). Bohemian Rhapsody is an example of sheer musical creativity from musicians that have the talent to carry it to fruition. Loved also the adorable and iconic 'You're My Best Friend'.

Wow holy jeez, I understand the value of Brian May. This album sounds soooo well produced. First time sitting though the whole album, front to back. Pretty darn good.
Some great songs, some not so great songs. But I can't bear to give Queen less than four stars
Never listened to this one the full way through. Truly one of a kind.
\m/
I completely understand where bohemian rhapsody came from now and definitely more into queen than before. It was interesting to hear how many different genres they dove into.
Yaaasss queen
Near perfect album! Love a bit of Queen.
Some classics. Also some clangers
Good stuff
Closer to a 4.5! Great album. Arguably the greatest singer.
Loved the sound and feel
good
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Killer album
Tykkäsin. En ollut aikaisemmin kuunnellut ko. levykokonaisuutta.
I love queen, this album have some amazing tracks but also some that I don't find brillant...
Storslået, kor, karismatisk, 70’er pop/rock, Freddie Mercury
Pretty good, better than I expected but you know what? Bohemian Rhapsody is overrated. There. I said it.
a classic, I feel like the front half pales compared to the ladder half and why I can't give it a perfect score, def deserving of this list
9/10. album is cool. overdramatic but in a fun way. love the music hall shit on here i think its really when the albums fun theatric spirit shines the most. not talked-to-death fav: '39. really good. folk music is good. talked-to-death fav: b*henian ratsody. you know why this song is good
A Night at the Opera presents the final step in what would become Queen's endgame, their transformation into a singles band. But what an album to present to the masses in the changing tides of rock music. This album almost pretty much lives up to its name, from their final turn towards prog madness to powerful odes to love and beyond and the defining song that basically signals their shift towards immortality. One doesn't need to own or listen to another Queen album, this is practically all they need to understand. Favorites: Death on Two Legs, I'm in Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend, '39, The Prophet's Song, Love of My Life, Bohemian Rhapsody.
It's got Bohemian Rhapsody but even without it its is a pretty good album.
heard it a few times before, really good album, just good classic Queen. some whimsical freddie numbers, some balls-out rockin brian songs, 4/5.
This is actually pretty good and a marked upgrade on the other Queen album which came up earlier. It might be that they're an absolute singles band though. A lot of singles, good singles but maybe not an obvious album band. It's probably why their 1st greatest hits album is the biggest selling album in UK history. I think we can all agree that we could go a couple of years without hearing Bohemian Rhapsody as well.
So it’s a good album. I’m not a big Queen fan and I think some of these songs are way overdone but there are a couple really good songs. I think You’re My Best Friend is a great song. Bohemian Rapsody is one of those songs I’m not sure it’s good or not but was made better by Wayne’s world. Brian May is a great guitar player. One thing that would remain is this over the top singing. I’m glad I heard the album. I can understand why it’s on the list.
Not and album id add to any of my playlists but still a solid listen
Hje good tracks are great, but dear lord this has a lot of filler.
bohemian rhapsody will pay for its crimes
Queen is a group I appreciate more for their individual tracks than their albums. I had heard this one before and found it enjoyable. There's some good songs on here Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend, and Love of My Life are stand outs that I've played countless times before. The Prophet's Song is a deep cut that I've been liking a lot since listening to the album.
This is the second Queen I have listened to. I feel like my thoughts for this one is similar to my thoughts on Sheer Heart Attack - at times it was too theatrical/out there and didn't land on my ears well. I did hear some parts (singing and instrument playing) throughout that I thought were really good. I'd give this a 3.5, but I am not okay with giving it a 4.
it's easy to see why this is one of the best Queen albums, considering how they explore the use of choruses, elements from Opera and experiment with these and other sounds that are not so commonly seen in their other albums. With a good compelling result. And more so, there are many songs here that are hits, like Bohemian Rhapsody But, i feel that with this album i realized i don't really like Queen that much. sure, their hits are bangers, Freddy Mercury is such a good vocalist and Brian May has some iconic and clever riffs. But most of their songs don't connect with me. I don't feel anything with them That's a me problem, i guess
ehhh too gooey
Pretty good for queen. Just not much of a fan, but there are a couple good songs in here. 39 especially was a nice surprise.
Love the 3 albums before this one. Hate everything after this album. Dislike this album but recognise it as a decent piece of art.
Interesting mix of rock with dramatic operatic overtones. I'd say very groundbreaking at the time.
Tem melhores do queen
Idk I just wasn't feeling this one as much. Obviously Bohemian Rhapsody is really good but that was the only song I really love off this one.
ops
Ladies and Gentlemen. I guess that takes in most of you. This is the opening of a new opera season, a season made possible by the generous checks of Mrs. Claypool. I am sure the familiar strains of Verdi's music will come back to you tonight, and Mrs. Claypool's checks will probably come back in the morning. Tonight marks the American debut of Rodolfo Lassparri. Senor Lassparri comes from a very famous family. His mother was a well known bass singer. And his father was the first man to stuff spaghetti with bicarbonate of soda, thus causing and curing indigestion at the same time. And now on with the opera. Let joy be unconfined. Let there be dancing in the streets, drinking in the saloons and necking in the parlor. Play, Don.
Oh what a night
4?
Pretty cool
Queen are a prime example of a band with awesome songs and pretty disappointing albums. You can't have Bohemian Rhapsody and I'm In Love With My Car in the same album, and you can't have the latter in any truly good album. The highs here are divine, but the lows are trashy in a bad way. A lot of the album is uninspiring or outright boring and I wouldn't recommend listening to those songs outside of educating yourself about the band's catalogue. Cutting maybe half the album would've made it a timeless classic. Of course, there's Bohemian Rhapsody and Love Of My Life, which are two of the greatest songs ever recorded. However, two songs are far from enough to save this whole album from being mostly a dud.
Helt ok album
I thought I would enjoy it more, maybe it's just not the right kind of day also what even is a rhapsody
I always expect Queen to be a 5 and I'm always a little disappointed. This was fine, but certainly not amazeballs.
Poppy vibe from Queen
If I didn't know Queen and listened to just this album, I think I'd struggle to understand how they were such a massive band
Interesting to hear Bohemian Rhapsody in context, but some of these songs sound like music hall b
Two big hitters with the grand daddy of them all surrounded by ok
Excellent
There's clearly a lot of skill here, which probably helps to account for how - despite coming from what seems like a far fringe (music hall/musical theater?) niche of pop/rock music, Queen achieved a high level of success -- with this album in particular, and the weirdo genius of "Bohemian Rhapsody most particularly of all. The problem, for me, is that I've heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" so many times now that it's long since lost its brightest sheen of novelty. My other problem is that, the talent notwithstanding, everything sounds so stilted (almost . . . antiseptic?), in particular the singing (lead and harmonies), and the guitar sound, too. I suppose when it came out, those qualities might have made it stand out. Anyway, I still need to rate this. Once you're past the 2 hits, I don't think any of the other 10 songs particularly stand out, or invite repeated listens. Weighing the pros (including trying to imagine I'd never heard any of this before) and cons, I think 3 stars seems right.
Skulle vært 4 eller?
Meh
High 3 held back from a 4 by an over reliance on pretending to be sailors in some songs
Never thought Queen had a killer album. There had always been too many discrepancies between the operatic and rock influences which make for awkward listening. Definitely more of a singles band in my opinion and this album didn’t change that perception. Sweet Lady, 39, You’re my Best Friend are ace. I’m in love with my car has some of the worst lyrics imaginable over some of the best music on the album.
honestly a little much for me as a whole but some of the songs are great
First time listening to a Queen album coming from the perspective of someone who feels fatigue each time a Queen song (Cool Cat excluded) comes on the radio. Most clear aspect of this album is the wide range of musical exploration; jaunty vaudeville tunes, sea shanties, rock operas, religious a capellas. Such wide diversity is often united by Freddie Mercury’s recognizable vocals, along with the precise musicality of the band, although there are moments where other voices take the vocal lead. The lyrics themselves, besides in the scathing opener “Death On Two Legs” and the ecclesiastical “Prophet Song”, often come off as nonsensical or arbitrary, and if not either of those, then leaning heavily on trite lyricism borne from a song’s musical influence. In this way, the lack of unity or linearity throughout this album, made clear by the aforementioned musical range, is exacerbated by uninteresting lyricism. It is clear that, to Queen, the singer’s role is largely instrumental, rather than confessional or story-weaving, which is not inherently a negative. Still, A Night At The Opera feels a bit to disjointed for my personal tastes (although the transition from “Death On Two Legs” to “Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon” made me laugh). In this way, I have some trouble imagining returning to this album as a whole listen, especially because I am not particularly enamored by vaudeville tunes, sea shanties, or falling in love with one’s car. Some songs I did enjoy: “Death On Two Legs”—hilariously petty and scathing; “The Prophet Song”—unexpected prog rock to break up the album, very fun a capella; and, of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Final thought: maybe it’s due to my lack of experience with Queen’s albums, but when you encounter incredible hits like Bohemian Rhapsody as a single, I don’t think it unreasonable to expect a similar level of musical depth from the rest of the album, which is not really what I experienced here. I think a more full embrace of that nonsensical operatic sound would have made this album more cohesive, more compelling, and more like a night at the opera!
half of this was good but i found some of it to be kind of boring….
Nothing really matters to meeee I have feeling most of the songs were a bit boring. Maybe they’re just wasn’t matching my taste or I didn’t have the right mood for listening to that album When you listen to the whole album in one row, all the songs are mixing together and start sound the same I would say 7.6/10 I’ve really heard better
Listening to this album in one sitting confirmed a couple things for me... -Queen are a singles band. They have a few fantastically great songs, and a lot of...other songs. -Freddie Mercury is, by far, the best thing about this band. The rest of the guys are virtuosic musicians, but also unbelievably dorky and tasteless. -I resent that Queen achieved super-canonic status over the past 15 years or so (when/why did it become normal to refer to "The Beatles and Queen"?). They're definitely a great rock band, but I feel like they've been elevated by chauvinists who believe the best music is the most complex music.
The demographic for Queen is people who were alive to hear them on the radio and band kids who haven’t discovered hip hop yet.
A Night at the Opera is a decent album that went down in history for its great production and a few timeless songs that make most of the tracks this album comprises feel like comparative filler. Freddy Mercury’s voice sounds amazing throughout, which is to be expected, and the vocal layering that this album is so influential for makes many of the otherwise just-alright songs on this much more enjoyable because of the crisp, theatrical production. You're My Best Friend, Seaside Rendezvous, and Good Company are good examples of this—decently fun songs elevated greatly by that delightful production. Unfortunately, the songwriting on many of these songs is fairly lackluster, which is disappointing considering that this album may as well be called “The One Bohemian Rhapsody is From.” Fellow prog-rockish song The Prophet’s Song joins that star penultimate track in embodying the innovative genre-blending this album is known so well for, and softer tracks Love of My Life and even ‘39 feel like perhaps the only tracks on here with it that deserve their place on an album with the legendary Bohemian Rhapsody, a fantastic song that shines as the highlight of this album and probably of Queen’s career. Being preceded by some of the better, more ambitious songs on this album helps makes it a special moment when its vocal intro ushers in this famous many-would-say-masterpiece that epitomizes and transcends everything that this album is known for. It alone made this album difficult to rate and shifted its score up fairly significantly for me. It would’ve made a far more potent ending to this album than the odd choice of God Save the Queen. There's a lot of good stuff on here, and it sounds great throughout, but a lot of the songs are just not that substantial next to the classics this album is remembered for. The inconsistency makes this album a difficult one to rate, but… it’s a low 3 stars overall. Rating: ~5.5/10 ____ Album 6 / 1001+
I do appreciate Queen very much from an objective perspective, they're truly one of the greatest musical groups of all time. But in come my subjective ears. Unfortunately, they don't really care for Queen outside the radio hits that have been drilled into our psyches for so long that it's impossible not to bop along to them out of familiarity. Of course, the famous Rhapsody, Love Of My Life, You're My Best Friend - these are amongst the best of all time - but I just don't get the feels for the car song, the prophet's song, or any other of the non-radio hits. And it's crazy because I can tell they're all fantastic songs - they just don't pull at my heart.
Not sure it's for me. Great album and some of the most iconic songs, I mean Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best songs ever. It felt a bit disjointed at the beginning but I also don't know if that's because I know a lot of songs out of the context of the album so they popped out in quite a stark way.
Bohemian Rhapsody.
I don't like Queen. I thought that biopic was absolute tosh! And it's one of those bands that are overplayed. Way too overplayed. However, I've never actually listened to an album. Just heard the Greatest Hits (and didn't they release a second one?). So, here goes: You've got Bohemian Rhapsody on there, which I have mixed feelings about. But, it's important enough to warrant a place on the list. My Best Friend is alright, I suppose. But otherwise, it's an album packed full of average 70s tropes. Let's begin with the guitar. I like Brian May, I do. But it's still awful. And that God Save the Queen at the end was not necessary. The vocals. You know, that sound... Works well on BR, but gets repetative, a little self indulgent. The songwriting. I had to have a second listen to I'm in Love with my Car to really cringe at how bad it was (and yep, I couldn't handle it). Otherwise, it's a collection of melancholic piano songs (similar to part of BR), and parodies of music (a bit like when Paul McCartney does it, and I'm never a fan of that) in which they are trying to set a mood. I guess it works, I think I've just gone in with an attitude I can't really shake. 3 Stars and that's really only because of one song.
Too theatrical, too twee, too overblown. 3.5 stars
I've never been too high on this album. It's good, but I don't really get it's classic status. "Bohemian Rhadsody" and "You're My Best Friend" are great, and you get a couple more solid deep cuts in "'39" and "Sweet Lady", but the rest? I'm not convinced. You get some of Freddie's excursions into granny rock and some mid rockers like "The Prophet's Song" and "I'm In Love With My Car". 3.5 stars.
A surprising amount of songs here feel like throat clearing until the show stopper at the 11th hour
theater kid music,, wanted to say it’s not for me but then i’m hypocritical bc i love imaginal disk,,, something to think abt. but some are surprisingly unlistenable
Interesting but odd. Not sure I ever understood Queen
Im going to get booed, but i just think Queen are a singles band. Yes their production and breadth of instrumentation are impressive and yes Freddie is one of the best front men ever and yes Boh Rap is incredible. But this isnt an album with any consistency, its all over the place in terms of genre and songwriting quality and i found it a difficult listen
A Night at the Opera is a half good. A bit weak overall and lands on the list primarily for "Bohemian Rhapsody." And of course it does. The rest of the songs could have been complete trash and the album would still make it... the song is that important and a must listen by all humans before death. "Your My Best Friend" also carries weight but is totally dwarfed by BR and you almost forget it's even on there. Queen took some notes from Beatles albums and added light hearted tunes like "Good Comapny" and "Lazin' on a Sunday Afternoon" which I quite enjoyed. The boys have better ones but it's still Queen and rocks...2.95 stars.
Queen does it again on the 1001. Despite this album being all over the place (in a good way) every song felt fully realized. I don't feel like they stitched a couple B-sides in to pad the album. You can tell they were dedicated to each and every note whether it was a prog-rock jam, a somewhat hammed up vocal pop song or an operatic masterpiece like Bohemian Rhapsody. There is little to no filler (maybe I'm In Love With My Car) as Queen continued to establish themselves as a unique top of the charts act. Freddy will always be the star of the vocal show, but the rest of the band has always been amazing with supporting harmonies that hugely layer the lyrics and instrument tracks. It was also cool to get some lead vocals from May and Taylor that I never would have expected. The backing tracks on guitar, piano, and whatever else they throw at it always adds to the whole affair. Regardless of how you feel about each individual piece it hard to deny that everything Queen was doing on this one was interesting. The album is diverse and fun from front to back. Always been a fan of Queen's greatest hits but these guys continue to surprise me with their albums. Glad they got three entries on here and I wouldn't be upset if they got another. 3.28 stars
Another good Queen album. Probably their masterpiece.
Not my first listen but this cements my feelings that Queen work better as a singles band than an album one for my tastes. When they hit, they hit hard. When they miss, I find them really grating. There’s a reason more than half of these tracks never get active radio play anymore. Would rate it 3.5 if I could.
I got respect for Queen just off of a lot of their hits, but this album in particular just aint fully hooking me. Yeah its got 2 of their biggest hits but I just can't lock in with half the songs here regardless if they have a solo here or a cool idea there. I've listened to a couple albums of their in the past (Sheer Heart Attack, News of the World) that I remember enjoying a lot more overall. 6.5, maybe a 7/10.
Kind of meanders a bit between genres and it's not all inspired. I'm In Love With My Car is definitely a song with lyrics. Favourite track: Bohemian Rhapsody of course
First album selected is a re-listen, but one I haven’t heard in two decades, so I was due another look. Never a personal favorite band, but at their peak, they were undeniably capable of delivering transcendental moments of operatic hard rock excess, which this album achieves often. Standout moment: the unexpected gentle pastoral folk of ‘39. Not a mode I associate with Queen, but it comes at the right point in the album as a breather between the more bombastic tracks.
so the important background context is that I hate bohemian rhapsody. A lot of this I think is due to the fact that the “glebe crew” (a bunch of people in my grade at school) would always reach a point in the night when they were having parties where they would do a singalong of this, wonderwall and nosebleed section, which was normally a sign for me to leave, and that has stayed with me. There’s about 30 seconds towards the end of the song that I quite like, and I always forget about that, but can’t stand the rest. As for the rest of the album, I appreciate that there’s a lot of variety and a few songs I enjoyed. Favourite was I’m In Love With My Car and unexpectedly ‘39. there are more queen songs I think I like elsewhere in the catalogue
Would listen again.
This is good. But i guess im not all that huge on queen i guess. Freddy's voice is iconic and powerful to the nth degree but im not all that into it. And this is supposedly the best they got right? And dont get me wrong there are absolute classic tracks here. Bohemian rhapsody? Come on, thats one of the most popular songs of all time. And I think its good too. Im just less into the performance aspect of it. The themeing is great, it does feel like a night at the opera. Nails it. But im not sure thats my vibe. Too showy and theatrical for me. Like sweet lady is the most overtly rock track here and it might be my favorite. Maybe i like other more rock centric albums from these guys, I dont know but I know this isnt my favorite. I did like it. I promise. As much as it sounds like I had a bad time no way. I liked it pretty well. Just there are alot of things here that dont go over that well. The guitars and drums all feel kinda burried in the mix. They just lack the punch they deserve. But anyway its a good record that is above average, for me it might bot be that much above that bar.
I mean it’s got Bohemian Rhapsody on it, but other than that it’s underwhelming
i own this album on vinyl. it's pretty solid, and bohemian rhapsody's on it, so it's automatically a 3.5. it's not a great album album, but it's pretty good.
songs I enjoyed: you're my best friend '39 bohemian rhapsody
"Best Friend" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" are the obvious stars of this record, but there is a non-single worth mentioning - "39" is a pretty ditty composed and sung by Brian May. The rest are either prog/rock songs or ballads or skiffle/music hall toss-offs. Kind off disappointing really, only buoyed by their original production sound and style.
There was some recent discourse on Twitter about how some bands (like the Cure or Smiths) are "singles bands" which is a totally ridiculous notion. Mainly because Queen is the real singles band. There's like 3 good songs here surrounded by a bunch of middling to bad ones
It's Queen, some GOAT songs, but there's a reason I've never heard some of these before
Fun album – there are a few well-known tracks on it too, haha. Three stars...
god
Do I just not like Queen?
kind of weird that all of the songs i liked from this were either written by or sung by someone in queen that wasn’t freddie mercery. i will this album suffers from one song being leagues above the rest in quality (bohemian rhapsody) (this happens a lot)
The first three Queen albums are pretty damn good, their 4th is the moment I find myself no longer a fan. There are undoubtedly some high moments, but there's also too much ragtime musical filler nonsense. I understand that the innovation and the revolutionary production techniques are what forms this albums reputation, and Bohemian Rhapsody certainly underpins this, but the metal and hard rock edge of earlier releases are largely missing from the rest of the album. Definitely operatic rock
Considering I was raised on Queen, I very guiltily admit they are not really one of my favourite bands. I went into this with an open mind as it has been years since I'd listened to a Queen album in full but I fear this isn't one of the best ones?? Despite being one of the famous ones. It's camp and fun which you would expect with queen, but it's pretty meandering and there's quite a few duds. Obvs Bohemian Rhapsody isn't one of the duds - not a controversial opinion there.
There's a reason that Queen are best known for their singles. This is a mess! I thought that The Prophet's Song would never end! That said, it's kind of a fun mess. So completely all over the shop that I almost enjoyed seeing what the hell they were gonna come out with next. Weird faux-prog-folk? Spinal Tap-esque prehistoric silliness? A vaudeville picture postcard jaunt? I dunno how you can review a song like You're My Best Friend' that's been so tainted by Magic FM that it's ceased to be music, but against all odds this was sorta fun.
Classic
Not exactly my thing, but i see why people like it
Well, bohemian rhapsody is one of the greatest songs of all time, but the rest of the album is much weaker compared to it
Review - not quite the case where it's only the songs I know that are good, but I was surprised how many truly naff songs were on this album. However, I now know that The Prophets Song is the thinking man's Bohemian Rhapsody. Rating - 5/10 Need to hear? YES
I love Queen! Unfortunately, Bohemian Rhapsody carried this album. I love the history of this experimental album, but it didn't quite work for me.
Has a lot of solid tracks as well as the famous Bohemian Rhapsody. 7/10
dont like queen
3/5
Bohemian Rhapsody is probably the most overrated song of all time. I get it was very innovative and interesting for its time, but people treat it like it's the peak of music and nothing comes close. It's a good song, but best of all time? I don't think so. I think Love Of My Life is the best song on this album.
Despite the obvious hits this album doesn't do it for me!
Queen was the first concert I have ever seen. This album played a big part of my childhood however it has not aged well. Bohemian Rhapsody is an epic song but the rest of the album is all over the place and like a dogs breakfast. “I’m in love with my car” and some of the other songs are super cringe.
Queen might be the best band and biggest band without a five star album. The hits are undeniable, particularly Bohemian Rhapsody, which still wows today. I found a lot of of the songs that I didn’t know to be surprisingly enjoyable, but others were legitimately annoying. 3.5.
Solid album with some good songs there is a bunch i wont revisit but overall i liked it just not enough to give it a 4 or higher
Everyone hypes up this album I just don’t fw Queen like that tbh.
Theater kid anthems in this. Undeniably some bangers though
Wow, what an absolute banger at the end. I wasn't aware this song was hiding on that album. Altogether, I was confused by the range of songs. While there were some that I really enjoyed, others I found very hard not to skip.
Never was a big Queenfan but this one is just nice to listen to. Especially the Prophet's Song was a real surprise, could have been a song by Rainbow
Very cinematic and entertaining - liked it more than the previous Queen album. Not quite a 4*.
Not really my bag, but it was ok
Never actually heard a Queen album all the way through, just their best-of compilations, so this'll be interesting. Death on two legs is cool, kind of average hard rock song. Sunday afternoon is a bit of an odd, campy vaudeville little follow up, but cute. Oh okay we're back to hard rock... I'm in love with my car blows, its so lame. You're my best friend is brilliant, a classic. 39 is interesting, it's an interesting story but nothing special. I'm wondering what their rationale was here regarding sequencing this album because we're going from one genre to another wildly. Sweet lady is kind of okay, it's nothing amazing, its like the bare minimum of good. Forgettable. Seaside rendezvous we're back to campy vaudeville, it's fine... okay it's annoying never mind. It's fun at least but wtf is this album it's got multiple personality disorder. The Prophet's song is interesting, we're in prog territory now apparently. It's not bad so far... An now a know an now a know an now a know an now a know and now an know an now a know an now a know an now a know an now a know and now an know an now a know an now a know an now a know an now a know and now an know. La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la lalalalala. What the fuck is this even? The Prophet's Song wasn't worth its artificially inflated runtime, haha, what an annoying drag. Love of my life next.. this is quite lovely. What a nice song. Very tasteful and sweet. Good company now. Back to vaudeville it appears. It's annoying and goes nowhere. Bohemian Rhapsody. Classic. No notes. Next. And we're ending with the national anthem? That's a.. uh.. choice. Sounds like too triumphant a capstone for such a mid and muddled album. Now I see why I've only heard the singles. Yeah on the whole that kind of sucked. It sacrificed consistency for variety which is a bold strategy when most songs are average or just plain bad. I generally like Queen, I used to be a big fan growing up, but this just isn't it.
An album I owned when young but struggled with and things haven't changed. Sure it has some great songs (BH, you're my best friend) but it has a majority of stinker throwaway romps more akin to pub singalongs. That Rogers car song is probably the 5th best here despite the flak it takes is alarming. A band that suits greatest hit compilations best.
This might be their best album, but I still don’t think that it’s that great
There's a legendary songs, a few great ones, but the fillers are filling.......
Freddie is one of one. He had an exceptional, otherworldly vocal talent. Listening to him sing is always a special experience. Brian May is one of the best. This band put out a super unique, highly creative body of work. I never complain when a Queen song comes on the radio. With all that being said, I've never gone and put on Queen on my own. I've never owned any Queen records. I can't articulate any reason why I'm not more into them. I don't mind them at all. And that's about it.
Very consistently Queen. Absolutely nothing wrong with this album (except for prophet song). I’m not a fan of Prophet Song. Ultimately, Bohemian Rhapsody.
Las mejores canciones bohemias rapsody y love of my life
I like Queen but don't love them
death on two legs. me gusta mucho! la guardo lazing on a sunday afternoon im in love with my car you're my best friend. empieza cursi pero me han gustado los sonidos. 39 sweet lady seaside rendezvous. ADORO ESTA CANCIÓN!!! QUE DIVERTIDA Y SIMPÁTICA!!! es como ver, solo con los sonidos, una escena de baile de ginger rogers y fred astaire the prophets song. otra muy divertida y excitante, un viaje de canción. love of my life. obviamente la conocía pero es que es muy bonita.. good company bohemian rhapsody god save the queen
I loved three songs but some werent my style
Has its hits but then does have its odd deviations 3.5*
Queen has always been a group I enjoy more in theory than reality. Seeing Queen live would have been the experience of a lifetime. Outside of that, when do you listen to Queen? It doesn't feel right to listen to any tracks on this album outside of a big, milestone event like a wedding or winning a sports tournament. It's too grand. Do I even like Queen at all? I have no idea.
I appreciate the love for this album that a lot of people have, but it just doesn't hit for me. I think a combination of having heard the best songs a million times already and the album tracks being considerably weaker means I just can't enjoy this like I'd expect to.
Best wel average muziek weer
Yes enjoyed but wouldn’t be an album I’d go to pick.
I like some of Queen songs, however i am not sure about this album. It just wasnt my vibe...
Strong 3
I’ve never been the biggest Queen fan, but this is brilliantly put together. I love the risks they take, and they all come good. I’ll probably never visit this again, but I’m glad I heard it.
Some great tunes on here but there are also many over-the-top songs
It was okay with some good musics in it
Yeah that’s a Queen album alright. Felt like listening to a musical. Like a theatre kid that’s really into Led Zeppelin and Yes got to make an album. Bohemian Rhapsody being the second to last song was unexpected, but very pleasant, and I feel like I understand it as a track better within the context of the album.
I'm actually not a big fan of Queen. I was both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised by some of the tracks here. I do think a lot of the stuff on this album just sounds like joke songs though. Maybe that's my age talking. Standout Track: '39
6/10 Favorite: Bohemian Rhapsody
The hits really don't give you the full picture for Queen, huh? What I found here isn't exactly what I was expecting, but while A Night At The Opera is more interesting than a lot of the era's rock, I will say that I'm honestly not sold on all of it. There are approximately two vibes here: one is "goodness that day at the park was lovely", and the other is "The wizards will battle for time untold". There are songs in each vibe that I like and songs in each vibe that I don't. At their best, the park songs get me to let go of my stresses and just float along like it's the most beautiful spring day I've ever seen. And the best wizard songs feel genuinely epic. But at their worst, both feel at least a *little* stupid. It really depends on whether Queen's musical theater approach hits or not. You're My Best Friend is super sweet and airy. Death On Two Legs is epic and foreboding. '39 is beautiful. And the a cappella section on The Prophet's Song is the coolest moment on a song that would otherwise be a bit eye-rolling in it's self-important epic-ness. And, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody is here. Many put this among the greatest songs ever. I personally don't, but it is excellent. On the other hand, everything else here is a mixed bag, queen's whole tone and approach just don't always do it for me. So the result is an album that swings between songs I really like, and songs I really don't like. I would say that it evens out to about a three though. I did ultimately enjoy myself.
Impressive record. Some for sure classics. Not sure how much I enjoy some of the other tracks or not. Probably best enjoyed on vinyl through a hi fi.
Queen has to be the band that I have listened to the most without ever actually listening to an entire album. That ends today. "The Prophet's Song" reminds me of Spinal Tap. Not in a good way. I was surprised at the number of songs not sung by Mercury. The hits here are undeniable. But the fluff is pretty fluffy.
An uneven album. Plenty of subpar songs but also some all time greats.
3.5/5. I’ve always viewed Queen as more of a singles band throughout my years of music listening. Which there’s nothing wrong with that, especially when you have as many all-timer singles as Queen. Which is to say, this is my first time diving into a Queen album in its entirety, and it was a good time. The album has a very good flow to it, many songs transition into each-other which is a trick I always love to see. I am admittedly not the biggest fan of the Show-tune-esque songs on here like “lazing on a Sunday afternoon” or the few songs not sung by Freddie like “I’m in love with my car, but past those personal gripes, the rest of this album has some great songs. Like the opener “Death on Two Legs” where Freddie Mercury tells the managers of their former record deal to kill themselves, or the great guitar playing and drumming on “Sweet Lady”, or the extended A Cappella segment on “the prophets song.” Then there is of course Bohemian Rhapsody which is one of the most iconic songs of all time. It’s always reminded me of “happiness is a warm gun” by the Beatles in how it stitches together a ton of smaller song fragments in order to make something super interesting. There are a decent handful of songs here I didn’t love, but when this album is firing on all cylinders there is some great stuff to be found.
There’s some decent songs in this I’ve just always found queen meh and this is no different
3.0
Never listened to the full album - I liked it but also because I have a lot of respect for Queen's legacy. I guess it's not my favorite genre, but good to know!
2.75 - Solid, but the the songs that I didn't know already didn't do a lot for me.
I enjoyed this. I really like ‘39. And bohemian Rhapsody is obviously just a classic.
Fun album.
Very queen
Album 3 3/3/26 Before listening, my opinion of Queen and this album was that the hype is greater than the actual music. I don't think I've listened to a full album from them since I was a teen so I thoroughly wanted to be proven wrong by the sheer production quality and the strength of the album tracks. The only moment I really felt that way was for '39. To be fair, the pacing of the album starts out really well and I was thinking light 4. My favorite Queen song is You're My Best Friend is included, I wish they had used electric pianos more. Otherwise, I still think that this album is a just a strong 3. I think it's understandable that I'm tired of Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't care for Prophet Song and I don't know if sitting through it any number of times would change that opinion. The shorter songs are good fun in a campy way but don't end up creating an outstanding album in the end. I'm glad I was reminded of the musicianship of Queen and I hope I like my next Queen album better.
Two songs. I knew two songs.
Not my usual thing tbh but whoever mixed this record is a genius. Some obv iconic moments
Sure why not
Unexpected start. Sounds pretty cool, funnily enough the operatic elements don't fit methinks Gets less cool after ~4th song. Still decent
Lacked distinction. Some tracks like ‘You are my best friend’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody, are exceptional, but in the context of the full album, they lose their poignance. Some nice sounds throughout, however a general lack of flow. I don’t want to rate it 3 star as an objective measure because it’s far better than average music as a whole. But I will, in the context of the 1001 greatest albums. I was expecting more.
This well-regarded follow-up to A Day at the Races certainly does have songs that wouldn't be out of place in an opera (Love of My Life, Death on Two Legs, some back-of-the-album filler track called Bohemian Rhapsody) and some that would be at home in the music hall (I'm in Love with My Car, Seaside Rendezvous, You're My Best Friend). It all makes for a very enjoyable experience, Queen doing what they do best.
Again, when you have Freddie, why the fuck are Roger Taylor and Brian May singing lead vocals on anything? You're My Best Friend is gorgeous, Bohemian Rhapsody is overblown and ridiculous. May's guitar tone is always sublime and absolutely unique. It's great to hear an album full of mild insanity, even when the tunes are mostly forgettable. I did enjoy the story of them writing a song complaining about their ex manager taking all their money, calling him every name under the sun. So he sued, settled, and took some more of their money.
What a crazy mix of songs. A little country, metal, Broadway, and pop. There are hits and misses but the band and Freddie's vocals are outstanding. It's the wide variety of material that bounces from genre to genre that kinda drove me mad. There is a lack of cohesiveness that becomes distracting.
Appealed to my high-school sensibilities but hasn't caught up with me today. May's guitar was a draw and the vocals begged for sing-along. There are moment's of greatness, yes, but the glam bogs them down.
Everybody in the world seems to love Bohemian Rhapsody. It certainly been infused into the world’s musical DNA. However, I never cared for Queen. They were always a bit too bombastic for my taste. So that’s why I like 39 and just don’t care about the rest but for the BR phenomenon I’ll mark them up.
Favorite Song: 39
First ever listen, not bad, kinda reminds me of the beatles more whimsical and british stuff. I've heard it a million times, but BR seriously hits at the end of this album
I won't waste much time exploring 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Everyone knows it and the majority of people rightfully love it. It may be overplayed, but that doesn't detract from the fact that its a killer song and its impressive that it was able to reach so many people despite being a prog song with operatic elements. 'You're My Best Friend' is a sweet and sincere hit and 'Death On Two Legs' show the band at their most venomous. At eight minutes and change, 'The Prophet's Song' is the longest song here and you can feel the length due to extended vocal segment. As talented as everyone in the band is, this is rather overindulgent and some of the more theatrical moments can read as goofy. The old-timey cuts 'Good Company' and 'Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon' are oddities that I wouldn't miss if they were cut from the album. For an album that contains one of rock's most known and celebrated songs, there is a lot of filler on here.
Some banging tracks mixed with terrible ones.
A curious blend of absolute classics and mediocre filler.
Very theatrical.
The best of the Queen albums we’ve had so far, it’s got some decent tracks on it. You’re my best friend and Bohemian rhapsody are stand outs. Then there’s that awful cover of God Save The Queen at the end, no international anthem has ever been improved with electric guitar, it’s a fact, it never gets better. And GSTQ wasn’t a great anthem to begin with. If I pretend that cover isn’t there, which I will, then it’s a solid mid tier 3/5 album. 3.0/5.0 Best Song: You’re My Best Friend
Some great songs but not great album
Heard
the only thing worth listening to by queen is their greatest hits compilation. people have already found their good songs, save yourself the time.
Half of the album is good, the other half is pretty rubbish. Queen were never able to make a great, consistent album. If you can only own one Queen studio album, it should be this. If you can only own one Queen album at all, unfortunately it should be the Greatest Hits. The Prophet's Song is their best song, I'll die on this hill.
A journey of an album. Well crafted. Knew what they were doing. Can imagine would get on your nerves if youre not in the mood for it though. Which i wasnt.
Still not massively for me, but there was a time when this would have been scoring lower. I can get something out of it at least nowadays.
Great talent, somewhat silly song themes.
Overrated but still pretty good.
Fine, I don’t like Queen that much, but I have a new appreciation for the musicality and skill of the band. Would be a 9/10 but I don’t like their sound much so personally 7/10.
My opinion of this album is the same as my opinion of Queen as a band; it's a mixed bag. There are some good songs on this album, an obvious example being 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. And there are some questionable songs on this album too, like 'I'm In Love With My Car'. Which I think can be said of every Queen album released. There is some great stuff, and some not so great. Three stars. (Favorite track: You're My Best Friend.)
Queen is a funny band in that everyone knows many many songs, but how many people have actually listened to their albums? To be quite fair most of them are pretty mediocre, but A Night at the Opera is one that's actually worth it. It's very theatrical and maximalist with some pretty over the top vocals performances and massive musical arrangements - like you could expect from Queen. I will say it does get a bit much at parts, the interlude-like songs are kinda filler and some of the longer songs suffer a bit from that. But there is a lot of greatness here. The opener is a multi phased prog banger with amazing guitar passages all over it. I'm in Love With my Car is just a fun song and You're My Best Friend is one of their cutest tracks. Love of my Life has fire piano backing instrumentation and is a very lovely ballad overall and then of course there is Bohemian Rhapsody - I don't think I need to add anything about that. But unfortunately even on one of Queen's best albums there is still some duds. Sweet Lady is pretty much just a piece of boomer rock, Sweet Randezvous and Good Company are a bit sickeningly dramatic and The Prophet Song is not really one of their best prog tracks, at some point in the song they try to include this experimental passage and it comes off as a bit annoying. I have a hard time rating this, technically feel like it deserves 4 stars but I rarely listen to it and it's just a bit too inconsistent.
Better than the last Queen album, still not my thing. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not for me.
Some good songs. Freddie's vocals are so impressive, as is the guitar tones and bass in places. Mainly just a kind of annoying album tbh. Not something I'd listen to out of choice.
Gay ass music! Cool to hear bohemian rhapsody in context. Some songs too gay even for me
the highs are extremely high, the lows incredibly low. you're my best friends gets it up out of 3 star territory
Queen's music is always good, instrument/als are such bangers, I could listen to them alone. Lazing around on a Sunday Afternoon is short and sweet Obviously Bohemian Rhapsody is the highlight of the album (surrounded by some filler songs) but the Album is pretty good overall 3.5
Queen are still not my cup of tea at all, but this was better than their previous appearance on the list. It hangs together surprisingly well for an album with such a mix of styles, it has a sense of humour which felt sadly lacking in the previous effort, and there are no ogres this time. An extra star just for Bohemian Rhapsody.
I've always found Prince a bit corny tbh
Liked.
6/10
Pre-listen: Dreading it - not massive on Queen aside from the classics! Post-listen: Some really beautiful moments, some gorgeous vocals from Freddie and delicate intricate melodic moments from Brian May. Some real madcap weird musical stuff on there, but of to-ing and fro-ing between the good the bad and the ugly! But realistically shows every facet of the band. Enjoyed, some tracks endeared me more than the jauntier ones.
I grew up on Queen's Greatest Hits, so I thought I really liked them. And maybe I still do, but not with this album. Two great songs, a few good ones, and a lot of indulgent filler.
The hits are obviously timeless and the band will forever resonate through history, but sounds like Seaside (who has time vaudeville, it's a bit aggravating for my taste) and a song about loving a car. Pretty decent, but like Alan Partridge I'll stick to the best of.
I get the cultural significance and why this album was included on here but I've just never been a fan of Queen. They're very talented but not my thing.
Queen should have died with Freddie. In 2026 they must have been the weird zombie version of themselves longer than the proper version and yet are so far from relevant it's actually kind of impressive. No new music of any impact, a rubbish film and Brian May occasionally popping up to bore some royals on a balcony. Give it up lads
Wow they really dipping their foot in every genre😂. I already had the banger Bohemian Rapsody saved, but now I saved Love of My Life. It was a decent album
Mix3d
Not my favirite and I love Queen. A combo of top notch and bottom notch songs
This is a fairly entertaining romp
it had some unique parts but overall pretty boring. it's really hard for me to like Queen's music very much. it's just so white
So, apparently I don't really know Queen that well. I hadn't heard all but 2 of these songs. This album was fine. The superhits are clearly very strong but otherwise I could take it or leave it.
Ihan hauska ja monipuolinen levy, bohemian rhapsody jotenkin edelleen olisi ihan pähkähullu ja hieno kappale tehdä. Ehkä Rosalían kappale Berghein on vähän samanlainen :)
Enjoyable but not a repeat listen for me
If you like Queen, you'll like this album. If you only like the hits you've got quite a long listen before you get to the one hit on this album.
The single hits really carried this album, but I prefer their later stuff.
Skipped the singles, liked it fine
6/10 Bohemian Rhapsody is a behemoth. But the rest is tedious, with a couple of exceptions. Outside their singles, Queen have to be one of the most overrated bands.
Top track: You're My Best Friend
It's Queen so it has its moments but man are they annoying sometimes. Just can't get out of their own way to make a complete album I can stand listening to. - Oh boy Queen... Expect to be screamed at for an hour - Fun intro riff, decent start. Distinctly Queen though, that's for sure - That went downhill fast. Fast tracking to 3 stars. Wish I understood Queen - Some good power rock in 'Sweet Lady' - 'The Prophet's Song' is fun too... but why is it 8 minutes? Oh that's why. Super annoying. Condemned this album to 3 stars
Admittedly, a good album
Fun and jolly but unfortunately too whimsy at times for me
Bohemian Rhapsody
I think we can all agree a Wayne’s World gif is all that’s really required for a review of this.
This album really stands as a testament to how having a handful of iconic tracks is often far more important than having consistent quality, or "no skips" as it were. Some of the highest highs and lowest lows exist on this album directly next to each other but it doesn't matter because we remember how transcendental Bohemian Rhapsody and The Prophet's Song are and forget that I'm In Love With My Car exists.
Better than I expected pretty good album.
not my vibe but i understand the popularity
The great moments on here were balanced out by those that were overly theatrical and kind of annoying in my opinion. Definitely overrated but not bad by any means.
I liked but not much of my vibe
Surprisingly, I found this album somewhat entertaining. The first few seconds made me think I had put on the wrong album. The playfulness and variation kept me interested. It borders on pretentiousness on occasion but overall, not being a Queen fan, I kinda liked it in places. A good album to sample with some 'Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite' moments.
3.5/5
Has two great songs. The others, despite great musicianship, aren’t that great to listen to. Not an album I would pull off the shelf, despite the mastery of Bohemian Rhapsody and You’re my Best Friend
Bonkers. Actually a bit annoying in parts but then also bohemian rhapsody
🙂
good album! overall rating: 3.5/5 favourite tracks: death on two legs, love of my life, bohemian rhapsody least favourite song: good company
Only 1 good song on this album which is why it gets 3 stars. Never realized how boring the rest of this album was until now.
7/10 good but not really my thing
“you’re a sewer rat decaying in a cess pool of pride” — great line Bohemian rhapsody 100/10 no notes spectacular give me 10 of them You’re my best friend is so nostalgic love it Seaside Rendezvous? So fun The repetitiveness in the prophet’s song annoyed the hell out of me Overall, a few notable songs that I will listen to again. But don’t care to listen to the full album again.
Sort of an underwhelming start but picks up with Love of My Life and of course Bohemian Rhapsody
Positives: The harmonies are eargasm material. Freddie Mercury sounds amazing as always. John Deacon is a very unique and inspired bassist who I always love hearing in the mix. The trademark Queen guitar sound is enjoyable. There are a couple very standout songs on the album (especially that one). Negatives: Overly theatrical for my taste. I won't ever understand why the other band members got so much space to sing on their records when Freddie Mercury(!!) is in their band. Also way too many jokey or music hall-ish songs for a band that, at their core, sound best when they go heavier. Overall an enjoyable and fun listening experience that doesn't suit my personal ideas for what an album should be, but definitely has merit, especially in some individual songs. Best songs: You're My Best Friend, Bohemian Rhapsody Worst songs: I'm in Love With My Car, The Prophet's Song
Everyone is ripping on I’m In Love With My Car, but that song is way better than The Prophet’s Song in my opinion. There are too many songs that are misses here to make this a great album, even though it has the greatest rock song ever written in it.
I love "Love Of My Life" and "You're My Best Friend" (:
23/12/25 My first song off this album was Love of My Life, specifically this version: https://youtu.be/WroCDpkI7fg?si=p4mA1NBPZIG5mzuY because a creator on Youtube used that audio in her vlog! Today was my first time actually listening to the album.
Good background music
Couple good songs but never been a massive Queen fan
Loved the experimentation with opera and rock. Love how all over the place the album is theme wise. Some songs didn’t stick out to me while some did. Very strong album but not one of my favorites.
Very chaotic and unpredictable album. It mostly works, but there are some moments where it doesn't. There were some parts that I think were to0 quiet and underproduced. Like they thought that it's time in the songs to change something up but didn't come up with what to put there exactly, so it felt that some parts where filler. I still enjoyed the album, though. It's much better than listening to some repetitive pop rock. Not all ideas worked for me, but I'm glad they tried. 7/10
Freaking freaky- need more solitude to listen fully.
Compared to queen 2 the highs of this were way better, but there is a few songs that underperformed
7 Liked it quite a lot! Am defo a bit of a queen hater they are maybe the all time most overrated band but it’s a pretty good listen
I love Queen in general but this specific album didn’t do anything for me. I think it was “The prophet’s Song” I didn’t like it at all..
A few well known tracks on this album, but quite a few I didn't know. Can understand how some of them didn't make the Best Of albums! But good all round production, and what else can you say about the vocalist and musicians!!
Some bangers on here, even the most overplayed song of all time is still quite charming in the context of the full thing
Definitely operatic. Kind of beautiful but kind of boring also. Maybe I’m used to Queen’s sound so it’s not an impressive or groundbreaking album to me?
Surprised about the songs that were not sung by Freddy Mercury. Good the listen beyond the greatest hits. Not so surprised that this album was listed.
Aside from the two or three amazing songs on here, I wasn't impressed with the rest of the album.
I wish I liked Queen
some were kinda boring but i like Bohemian rhapsody 👅
Some bangers but a couple really annoying songs too!
Most of the songs are forgettable, but bohemian rhapsody is so good I don’t even know what rating I should give
The droning, dramatic opener ruled. After that, huge swings up and down for me, which is in keeping with my general feeling about Queen. When they want to rock, they can really goddamn rock, and I'm here for it. I find myself a little weary of Freddie's campy-vamping at certain points, but it is also undeniably part of their charm. I get why they were so popular, and I'm generally happy to hear their music come on, but don't know that I'll seek it out.
Have never been a huge Queen listener, but this album woke me up a little. Great guitar work and of course Freddie Mercury does his thing all over this one. Favorite Track: I'm In Love With My Car/The Prophet's Song Least Favorite Track: '39 (Hoot and Holler type music)/Seaside Rendezvous
