Reviews (page 9 of 14)

Is every song Bohemian Rhapsody? No. Does this album contain Bohemian Rhapsody? Yes It's hard to remember sometimes just how vast a body of music Queen put out in their tenure. It's all good, though there are definitely a few favorites. They really hit their stride here as the version many of us know Queen to be, and this album is important to rock music because of it. 4.5/5

classic 4/5

Very good. Classic

I don't know if this is considered THE Queen album, but is definitely has THE Queen song. It flows along pretty well, jumping between different musical styles all throughout. You've got your typical rock ballads, but also some prog rock, Dixieland, and even a shanty-like tune mixed in. It's all pretty ambitious, especially compared to the band's previous works at the time. I will admit that some tracks feel like "filler" here, though. "You're My Best Friend" and of course "Bohemian Rhapsody" can't help but overshadow the others with their stature. Some of the "unfamiliar" tracks do hold their own, though. I'll round up to a 4.

3.5/5. it’s got fucking Bohemian Rhapsody

bismillah wont let me go :(

I wasn’t a big Queen fan when they first came around, but over the years I found myself liking and appreciating their music so much more. This is a really good album. Bohemian Rhapsody is a great song. That, and a few other songs, are a 5 for sure, but overall the album is a 4 for me.

Really enjoyed the album. Lots of variety. Standout songs: Death on two legs The Prophets Song

First time listening to a whole queen album and it was phenomenal

A Night at the Opera is classic Queen. The hits are great, and the non-singles are still great! These songs are high production value, and they deliver every single time. Their harmonies are flawless. The guitar riffs are intense. Often, the album comes off as a rock opera, a la The Who's Tommy. I was surprised to learn that Freddie Mercury wasn't the only lead singer. Though he's known for being Queen's frontman, he did way more than just sing and song write--and others contributed vocally. I suppose since Mercury had such a stage presence and unique voice, that's why I didn't know that before. But to be fair, his voice really is beautiful. I enjoyed hearing vocals from Brian May and Roger Taylor, too. This shows that Queen was such a well-rounded band.

Queen doesn't always get associated with the genre "progressive rock", but I was really feeling that quality on this album; they're just really good at making it incredibly approachable as a genre by surrounding things in their typical avant glam style. And speaking of Queen in different genres, it had been years since I heard the song "'39" and I was actually blown away by how good Freddie Mercury was at doing this folky march-type song. It's not what Queen is typically known for, but I'll be damned if he didn't do it beautifully. What a fantastic vocalist he was! This album has a lot to live up to, considering the massive hit that is "Bohemian Rhapsody" -- no doubt their biggest song, and one of the biggest songs in the entire world, ever. But this album keeps things outstanding and interesting from start to finish.

I know Queen through their singles but don’t know their albums much. This one has some great tracks but the bulk of it is a bit middling - until out of nowhere you get Bohemiam Rhapsody. In terms of pacing and track order it’s not a great record I guess to me but the sheer volume of awesome songs here makes up for it very well.

Queen is such a strange animal. As such, I've never been sure what to make of them so it was no surprise I was a bit apprehensive going into this one. In all honesty, I had quite a bit of fun with this album and you can tell the band members had fun making it, too. Great album if not a little uneven.

A Night at the Opera's title (without prior knowledge of the Marx Brothers) and the reputation of "Bohemian Rhapsody" would have you believe that it's parent record would be a sweeping, theatrical epic -- an opera. it is not. really, the album takes the form of a revue, with a bunch of sketches, dances, and characters parading around the stage for your entertainment. maybe there's a few bits where they get maudlin like with "Love of My Life", but overall the tone of the show is light, frivolous, ephemeral. it makes you wonder where they would have taken things if they ever deigned to write in an actual narrative. Queen are not the best band in the world, but in bursts, you get the sense that they could have been. i guess just being Queen was good enough for them (and the rest of the human race).

Early Queen is interesting.

Truly fantastic album. One of the best songs of all time with some other beautiful, and diverse songs. Some languish and drag a bit, but overall enjoyable. Also, surprised by the diversity of Queen. Not surprised by the magnificent musicianship and Freddie's powerful vocals. Both in full display.

Unique sound with Freddie's vocals standing out and arguably one of the best songs of all time on the album too. Rock album that sounds orchestral like this is very cool. 4.5

Absolute classic.

3.5 overall, but Bohemian Rhapsody bumps it to a four.

I'm pretty sure I listened to this album at least once before, but I don't really have any memory of it. Just looking at the tracklist, the only songs that stood out as familiar were "I'm in Love With My Car," "You're My Best Friend," and "Bohemian Rhapsody." The former I only really know because of the Queen biopic (Bohemian Rhapsody) — the scene of Brian and Roger destroying the kitchen in a fight at the studio while Brian roasts Roger for pitching such a stupid song was a highlight in an otherwise mostly cringe hagiography (also, poor Roger, they were so mean to him). The other two are obviously classic Queen songs. This album often sounds like what might happen if The Who and The Beatles did a collaborative album. That's not a bad thing. It's a fun album to listen to. I've always enjoyed the band's musical style and tend to enjoy most of their modern imitators as well (Mika, Scissor Sisters, The Darkness, etc.), so there's no real surprise there. Maybe it's because I grew up in a post-Queen world when so many acts had already adopted their style that it seems normal to me — like a lot of other Millennials, my first introduction to Bohemian Rhapsody was through "Wayne's World" — but for an album that advertises itself as an "opera," a lot of this album sounded surprisingly mellow and subdued. It must have been an insane album to put out at the time, but it just sounds like normal rock to me. It is cool that the music flows together so seamlessly — you can hear repeated musical motifs all over it, like part of the "You're My Best Friend" melody in "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon," and elements of "Bohemian Rhapsody" foreshadowed in "Love of My Life." Lyrically, it's not as cohesive — if there's supposed to be a story here, I'm not getting it. Maybe I need to listen again and pay closer attention to the lyrics. As I said, this album is a really enjoyable listen. All the songs are well done and catchy, and it feels cohesive. Other than the three aforementioned tracks though, not much else stood out as particularly incredible. "I'm in Love With My Car" stands out because Roger sings lead on it, and "39" because Brian sings it. I enjoy both of their vocals and, as I noted with their second album, I like when the other guys get a chance to shine on vocal duties because they're all really talented singers; but while "I'm In Love With My Car" is a good song, the lyrical content does make it feel a little out of place on the album. The only other real standout is the excellent "The Prophet's Song," which actually goes through multiple movements as you'd expect from an opera, and is somewhat unsurprisingly the longest song on the album as a result. I say somewhat unsurprisingly because seeing the run time of "Bohemian Rhapsody" kind of shocked me. Is it really under 6 minutes long?? I always assumed BR was like 8 minutes long (not in the sense that it feels long, just in the sense that it's so epic). Of course, Bohemian Rhapsody is the reason this album is on this list, and for good reason. It is and always will be one of the all-time great rock songs and is still monumentally impressive 50 years (!) later. My one real criticism of this album is the ending. It should go out with a triumphant bang as BR draws to a close. Instead, they tack on a well done, but sort of baffling instrumental of "God Save the Queen" at the end that feels unnecessary and out of place and destroys the album's momentum. I would've left that track off. Overall, this album is just a string of consistently good songs. It fits very firmly into what I expect from Queen. I could see myself listening to it a lot, but I'm not sure it'll become an all-time favorite album. I'll rarely turn them off when a Queen song comes on, but I'm still mostly a greatest hits fan. 4/5

This is 100% a classic rock album, but where most rock albums of this area started to blend together, Queen did something completely different. The whole project feels original and nobody else could achieve what they were doing. The instrumentation for one is on another level of both quality and uniqueness, but they shine the most in their vocals. Freddie has such an instantly recognizable voice. The arrangements are incredible and the writing is pretty good too. Some tracks are a bit meh, but all are fun (except for maybe “God Save the Queen” not sure what’s going on there). Enjoy this very much. 4/5

Hmm, it was fine but I was a bit underwhelmed. A pity because I wanted to enjoy this more than I did.

First time listening to this album and wow it was all over the place, they threw in ALL the sounds. I've never been a huge fan of Queen, I find them sort of cheesy. But they are cheesy in a fun way with great vocals and undeniably good guitar and rhythm. Artisanal cheese.

A Night At The Opera has some absolute classics with Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend. A lot of the other songs, whilst not as iconic, are still good with strong vocals (naturally, it's Freddie Mercury) and meaty guitar playing. I found myself quite liking '39 with Brian May on vocals as well, he has a nice voice really. There are some naff moments though, like The Prophet's Song. I enjoyed how it started, but it seemed to fall flat. I'm also gonna be honest and say, even though it's not really a good song, I sort of enjoy I'm In Love With My Car.

This started off very strong but after You’re My Best Friend it lost steam. Still sounded fine but not nearly as fun. Prophets Song sounded like a Bjork song at times. Low 4.

8/10 - Queen is good. Bohemian Rhapsody has become overplayed for me but I liked you're my best friend, '39 and seaside rendezvous. The style is fresh and interesting. I like the way the vocals go together.

Who doesn't love a bit of Queen? Don't love this enough for 5 stars but 4 is a no brainer.

A Night At The Opera contains some of Queen's best and most recognizable songs - 'Death On Two Legs', 'You're My Best Friend', '39', 'The Prophet's Song', 'Love of My Life', and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. It might also be the greatest album achievement in vocal recording, mixing and production ever. But as with basically any other Queen album, it also contains clear filler tracks, just cementing that the best way to listen to the band is finding a live recording or sticking to the Greatest Hits (sorry).

This gets a star boost for 2 all time classic songs, but it was honestly disappointing in context because there is some middling stuff put in around the peaks.

This album is so very English. Good stuff, but I don't LOVE Queen, in general. I enjoy their music though, by and large. I can see why this album is held in such high regard.

Altid overrasket over hvor mange genrer de kommer forbi her.

Bohemian Rhapsody lyder bedre i den her kontekst!

Fun to actually listen to this whole album, instead of just Bohemian Rhapsody. I liked it!

Decent for queen!

Incredible highs, and some satisfactory lows. The thematic reprising if melodies also creates some strong cohesion. Even the songs that are performed not by Freddie are interesting. But the peaks are where this puppy shines, Queen wrote some mega hits throughout their catalog and this album has several of them. A note to listen to this in premium cans to enjoy the layering.

Great double disc album.

Really powerful and full with positive energy.

Not my favorite Queen album but still really good. Bohemian Rhapsody is a classic, and The Prophet’s Song was an experience. I’m giving it 4 stars because of these two songs. Otherwise very solid 3.5 stars.

its queen ofc its good

Queen is just fun to listen to. Nice album.

some great classic songs but most of the rest were just meh. might take more listens.

Have on vinyl. As a Queen fan, this is a good album but inconsistent. Some of the tracks should not have made it onto the album - I'm in Love with my Car etc. But there are great highs in the singles and other album tracks like Death on Two Legs

Queen is prog with less chops and expensive production.

FAVO: You're my best friend, Seaside Rendezvous, Love of my life, Good company, Bohemian Rapsody

Really good listening experience.

Not quite as bombastic as Ive come to expect from Queen, but some solid tracks that keep it enjoyable

Along with A Day at the Races, this is one of my two favorite albums named after Marx Brothers movies. Oh...and it's got Bohemian Rhapsody going for it. Which is nice.

Fun! Knew a lot of the songs but also some new ones had a good vibe!

Again, some great songs, but also some that are meh. Solid 4

❤️❤️❤️❤️/5

sosem értettem, hogy ilyen tökéletes zene, mint amilyet ők csináltak, hogyan tud belőlem ilyen abszolút közönyt kiváltani. pedig egy effin masterpiece, tényleg.

Just great love queen but there were songs in this album I've missed and loved.

I'm not a huge queen fan but I enjoyed listening through this. Several iconic queen tracks on here.

Some great music on this album, however at points quite jarring on the ear. Multiple times thought my Spotify had gone on to random with the track listing as there seemed no flow!

Great album

Great, classic!

Who would have thought that 20 years after this album Gen-Xers would drive the streets of America banging their heads to Bohemian Rhapsody at high volume? It arouses the question: was Queen always great or did Wayne’s World give it the context to make it great? I go both! Any other band making this album would have been panned as laughable. But Queen from it’s earliest days were talented enough to own their weird. There would be no AJR, Cake, Presidents, et al, without Queen! They are the only rock band to to be universally accepted even when they don’t do rock. Rhapsody and Best Friend are enduring songs but I have to say that my surprise track was ‘39, which I don’t recall ever hearing before. Overall, you can take me to this Opera any time! “Party on Wayne!”

I've never listened to a whole Queen album before. I have the greatest hits and that's been great for me. The songs and style didn't really surprise me on this album. Queen's 70s sound is a weird mix of cock-rock, musical theatre, and opera. Obviously, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the greatest pop/rock songs of all time. I enjoyed the other tunes fine. Love of My Life was a key non-greatest hits track that jumped out at me but I do think it was featured in the biopic. I won't be putting this one on frequently as I'm more inclined to the greatest hits.

It's actually a 4.5, but we can't do half stars on here.

I mean, it's Queen.

Super high highs and a couple super mid mids. Bohemian rhapsody and love of my life are two of the greatest songs ever written, and that and some other greats elevate this to a 4/5.

I think we'll go with a little 'Bohemian Rhapsody', gentlemen. Good call.

Farroukh and Friends are back, bringing all the drama & destiny, with a record some consider to be their magnum opus…only it’s just never been my favorite. Too much camp, not enough cacophony. Still, these guys on their corniest day are still fun as all heck.

I enjoyed that

Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...) I'm in Love with My Car You're My Best Friend '39 Love of My Life Bohemian Rhapsody

I was never one to be a contrarian but I genuinely never understood the hype behind the entirety of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. I mean I love the intro and that iconic opening ballad part, it's genuinely one of the most heartwrenching, elegant, and gorgeously written things ever. It's just that everything after that feels unflatteringly gimmicky or antiquated (aside from the coda that I also quite enjoy). But I wasn't here for the song I've heard a million times, rather I'm here for some more Queen deep cuts which I surprisingly enjoyed on 'Queen 2'. Thankfully, I enjoyed them just as much on this album - I mean the opener 'Dead on Two Legs' immediately caught my attention. In typical Queen fashion, everything here is overtly theatrical, and the first few songs flow into one another in an almost medley form. This album flaunts its colors, it goes in so many wayward directions that even if you didn't mess with one song ('I'm in Love with My Car' in my case), you can rest assured that the next song will start with a clean slate. Another song I loved was ''39' which feels very un-Queen-like as it's more held back (given Brian May is on lead vocals) - but it still worked quite well. 'The Prophet's Songs' shows the band leaning into their prog influences (sounding almost Yes-esque in its final minutes) - with an interesting and oddly enjoyable acapella interlude. Another album that reminds me of why I loved Queen so much back in the day - and honestly still do.

Queen kind of drives me insane. One of the most talentef groups of all time, have a million hits, extreme popularity decades after lead singer dies, and yet I still find all their albums have so many flaws. Tons of great songs, but no great albums. They are good albums definitely, and I love lots of their songs, but their albums just always have songs on them that make me think "what were they THINKING?!?!" The first half of this is very disjointed, and varying degrees of quality. Second half picks up much better, and I think The Prophet's Song is wayyy better than Bohemian Rhapsody (BR is great too mind you) I think this is a low 4, off the strength of the two songs previously mentioned (and other good ones) which save it from a 3 due to it's odd beginning half

Culturally and single wise this album will always get the praise and to some extent rightly so, but if only freddy took a back seat on some of the songs from the drummer!! Still, it's an incredible album and will forever be remembered for having you're my best friend, bohemian, and death on two legs all on one album.

So weird. But in a good way.

expected to enjoy this more than i did. still excellent though, just cause it's queen.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a masterpiece, and the production on the album is superb. Another great track is The Prophet’s Song 4/5

Bombastic and fun rock. Haven’t heard a whole album by Queen before. Good listen and helped lighten my mood today. Freddie Mercury has pipes. Some songs were just okay, or lacked something special. Which don’t come off as quiet parts in the album as much as they do as low(er) points. Standouts: Death On Two Legs, You’re My Best Friend, The Prophet’s Song, Good Company, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

It's not perfect (if it were me, I wouldn't have any songs where one of the best singers who ever lived is not on main vocals), BUT, am I really going to give the album that "Bohemian Rhapsody" comes from less than 4 stars?

this is an amazing album and has some revolutionary songs on it. Bohemian rhapsody is a masterpiece of a song‼️‼️ queen is just so cool 😭😭😭😭 There were a couple songs where I lost interest but overall it is an incredible album

The cultural impact of this album is a 5/5, and overall it holds up very well, but this is not a PERFECT album to me (i can't help but imagine if Bohemian Rhapsody was not on this album.... it would be hard to die on that hill) 4/5

Queen is great. Although my favorite songs are not all on this one, it is probably the most essential Queen listen. Bohemian Rhapsody is a force of nature.

First Queen album here and this one has bohemian rhapsody? Excited to get into it. All the piano is so fun and different from other rock albums at the time. Reminds me of ELO. Lazing on a sunday afternoon is so goofy. Prophet song starts out ok, but there's some cool harmonies and solos in the back half that remind me of bohemian rhapsody. Great lead in to love of my life. Lot of good stuff in here, but not a top-to-bottom perfect album for me, so 4*. I was trying to imagine what it would be like to hear BR for the first time in this album -- something that's worth doing with songs you've heard 100s of times -- the beginning is very similar to a lot of this album, but once the guitar kicks in at 2:40 it's a completely different ballgame. What a beast of a song. Highlights: you're my best friend, bohemian rhapsody (duh), seaside rendezvous (very out there for what I know of Queen, but they pull it off), prophet's song, love of my life (Freddie's voice!)

Always a fan - ambitions album - hits a-plenty, but also great to hear some less heard songs.

take out the hits and this album is a 4

Good Company and Bohemian Rhapsody being next to each other really exemplifies this album. Queen is a homerun kinda band and when they miss oh boy do they miss. Still the highs more than make up for the duds. I had not heard The Prophet's Song and was happy to change that too. Great band and good album but not without warts.

I didn't care for some of the songs, but when it's good it's really fucking good

I didn't love this album as much as Queen II because it didn't feel as theatrical and whimsical overall. That being said, "Bohemian Rhapsody" really can't be argued with for star quality.

Some amazing songs on this!

Everyone can throw back their heads and have a good laugh if they want! Sticks and stones, I say, but I, for one, think it's very nice that drummer Roger Taylor was "in love with his car" as it shows that he was a smart & savvy consumer. Not prone to buyer's remorse, I'd imagine that he visited & test drove many makes & models at several automotive vendors before making his final decision. It makes me pleased that he was so tickled with his final choice. Good for him! Not only did it result in a pleasing & effective source of transportation for the young man, it also become a source of creative inspiration. You can hear the passion and fervor in which he describes his prized vehicle and one can't help but wonder, what's all this other nonsense on this album when an "I <3 Car" concept album could be afoot? I get the feeling he was only just starting to rev up his engines (of imagination). Taylor is still alive, so it's plausible that we could still hear this album happen, and I cross my fingers that the ol' boy wises up & goes solo! If the rest of Queen tried that "Bisimillah never let him go" talk, I'd hate to see them try to catch him in his deftly-handling dream machine, with all it's pistols a-pumpin'! Vroom Vroom!

Great album. Had lots of cool B sides that I had never heard before. Definitely will give another listen

One of the greatest songs of all time. Rest of the album well put together

A great album but I don't love Queen

Total classic. Freddie Mercury rules.

I wanna party with Freddie & Kenny & Princess Diana

Fantastic

Heavily produced, maybe a little *over* produced, but perfectly so. There's no other album that sounds like this -- the layering of guitar parts, the intricate arrangements, all the different styles of music, vibes from serious to campy -- it really is like a night at the opera. I listened to this A LOT growing up and I enjoyed every second listening now. What a great band. 4.8

Bohemian Rhapsody, You’re My Best Friend, Love of my Life. I need to learn the other tracks. Or not.

For how many times I’ve heard Bohemian Rhapsody this was the first time I’ve listened to this album.

Yeah, you love your car.

Day182 - i’ve always heard this is a classic queen album but other than bohemian rhapsody i didn’t love the rest of it

A classic album with some Queen classic songs. Some of which are even better live than on record, Love of My Life being one of them.

Another album with one of the best songs ever on it... But the album doesn't really feel like an album but a collection of filler and a few hits.

Bohemian Rhapsody makes this album hard to review. Queen may be one of the best examples of incredible bands who released some very mid songs and have no albums that are perfect, but a best of queen may be. This may be their best release and has a lot of strength and showcases them all well. Songs like I'm in Love with my Car bring it down some.

Deep inside hear a voice saying "You HAVE TO like this album. It's Queen after all! It's Bohemian Rhapsody!". The album has it's moments, though it's not my favourite.

It's easy to be disappointed when you expect a full album as great as Bohemian Rhapsody. Some tracks here are... just not it.

Before this album I would have said Queen was the greatest band without a great album. I actually think this out was pretty great

✅✅✅ yaas Queen

I liked this one much more than the previous 2 albums from QUEEN on the list, so it bumps up to 4! Love the theme that carries all the way through and of course, some classic tracks.

Ah, now this is the Queen I've been waiting for! So many layers and concept album elements that make a full listen so enjoyable.

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

Queen is so good. I love Brian Mays playing. Always thought this band can do anything musically. Some really corny pieces on here - but still a very solid 4 but can’t round up to 5. Great stuff.

A Classic.

I've never LOVED Queen. I like them well enough - some songs more than others. But I've never been able to get through a whole album in one sitting. It was better than I expected and I liked more of it than I thought I would. Sat through the whole thing.

A classic for a reason

I know the hits but have never listened to a full album. Also I have heard that Queen is a singles band, with their albums full of filler. So it's time to have a listen and see for myself. Well it's certainly eccentric with each song a different style, yet it somehow works. There's a couple of songs that aren't really to my liking, but they're not bad songs. There's also songs that I was unfamiliar with but I think are great, like The Prophet's Song. I'm undecided if this is a high 4 or a low 5. I'll give it a few more listens through before rating.

Thoughts before listening: I'm pretty sure this is the album that has "Bohemian Rhapsody" and a bunch of other big hits. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed the earlier Queen albums I've already heard through this project, so I'm happy to listen to their most popular album now. I don't think I've heard this all the way through before, but I'm sure I'll recognize most of this. Review: I do recognize a lot of this album, and I was correct about "Bohemian Rhapsody" which remains an all time great, over-the-top masterpiece. This album is a mix between great rock songs and silly, campy songs that are fun but grow tiresome. Other favorites include "I'm In Love With My Car", "'39", and "Sweet Lady". Overall its a fun album as are most Queen albums. I definitely like that they don't take themselves too seriously, even if the silliness can go a little too far sometimes. 4-stars.

Don't know how I've never heard this. What a great album. Not quite 5* material but close to it. 86/100

I bought this on vinyl at the time. I cannot remember if it was because it included Bohemian Rhapsody or because it was one of the must have albums at the time. I remember hearing Bohemian Rhapsody early on as it was a lead single from the album. Goes without saying that this is one of the best songs ever and I was totally absorbed by it. However the only other song on the album I like is Love of my Life which personally means a lot. I find the rest of the album not so good. There are a couple of more songs which are good and liked by many but not to my taste. The remainder of the album consists of throw away tracks which once heard you don’t want to hear again they are so poor. The success of this album was due to the one stand out track. I never bought the album on CD which proves to me that it wasn’t worthy to be in my collection. Rating this album is therefore a dilemma. Despite the duff tracks it is a classic album and it contains a song which will always be regarded one of the best ever. For this reason I rate it higher than the majority of the songs contained on the album deserve. 3.9/5 (4) 13/6/24

of course!!!

Bohemian Rhapsody is an amazing song, the rest of the album not quite as much. I wanted to love this album, but unfortunately I only kind of like it.

This album really holds up. I enjoyed Brian May's vocals '39 even though it doesn't quite sound like Queen without the masterful Mercury in the lead. There is such a variety of style - Seaside Rendezvous sounds almost Barbershop at times and of course the operatic Bohemian Rhapsody is the pièce de résistance and meaning maker of the album's title. The Prophet's Song is a bit much, even though perfectly on-brand for '75 Queen.

Mixed bag for the album. A few classics, including an all-timer in Bohemian Rhapsody, so big points there. I can't say I loved this album on the whole, though. Probably more good than bad, so we'll settle in at 3.7.

This record has some hits and it undoubtedly elevated by the presence of Bohemian Rhapsody. That said, it is not my favorite Queen record.

A very good album. I love so many things about Queen. Far too many things to list here. And yet, I've never dived into their albums, so this was fun. I think maybe some of the deeper tracks will take a little time before I know how much I like those, but I can hear the quality of the production, the inventiveness in the songwriting, the harmonies, Brian May's tone, and Mercury's voice, the genre-hopping... I'm here for it all.

Очень неплохо. Некоторые песни просто топовые

Great album, not much else to say. Freddie Mercury still has some of the best vocals of all time. I still cant stand Bohemian Rhapsody though.

This album is a masterpiece. The first thing that grabs you is the insane vocal talent. The Prophet's Song is mind-blowing. The song-writing is very good as well. There is a reason that Bohemian Rhapsody has literally billions of streams. It has broad appeal and showcases amazing talent. Sure, there are some throwaway tracks on this album, but overall it is very strong. I have heard this many times before and will listen to it many times in the future as well.

I find this extremely difficult to score. On one hand, it sounds like theatre music, and I don't like theatre music. On the other hand...I kinda like it. I think they lean into the camp a little too much for me at times with weird sounds and slide whistles and stuff (Seaside Rendezvous is exhibit A), but man, is there anything else that sounds like Queen? I have a son that hates rock music, but loves musical theater. He actually loves The Wall because it's just a glorified musical, and this album has the same feel to me so I keep thinking of him. So how do I score it? I mean, it's a good album, but will I ever listen to it on purpose? Probably not. That said, I'm enjoying it! I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but in this format, I think I'll give it a 4 because 1.) It's wholly unique, and 2.) Bohemian Rhapsody. The song is 50 years old and people still crank it. That's gotta count for something, right?

very very good -= not quite at 5 territory but great listen

Bohemian rhapsody should make it a 5 but some of it is a cheese fest

If it wasn't for the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, I would not know as many Queen songs as I do. And I don't know if I've ever listened to a whole Queen album before. This will be a treat. Ah, this happens to be the album that Bohemian Rhapsody is on! So I think for that it's going to get a 4 from me!

4.5 stars

It was really good.

I lob queen

Aika leikittelevää. Moni kappale tuntui täytekappaleelta, mutta isoja klassikoita mahtui myös. '39 oli yllättävä countrytyyppinen kappale. Parhaat: Bohemian Rhapsody, '39, You're My Best Friend, Love Of My Life,

Very fun

Yeah, it's Queen. Expected better from this to be honest. Maybe I'm just jaded.

Great album. Amazing musicianship.

beautiful album, one of queen’s best

It's just a great album. It's hard to beat Queen when it comes to musical performance.

Great album. Loads of 10/10s.

Best Queen album. Experimental but it works. Bohemian rhapsody is an example of this since it’s very all over the place but it works perfectly

A classic Queen album, I tried to get into some of the lesser known songs but nothing really jumped out. Obviously Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend are huge. Glad to get some Queen on here!

Nice! I think we've had another Queen album on here but can't remember. I believe I listened to all of their albums a few years ago, in the wake of that biopic, and this is definitely one of the highlights in their catalog. I think most treat it as their best, and I'm not sure I feel the same, but it's up there. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a classic, as is "You're My Best Friend," and those aside some other great tunes. It definitely feels like their version of or answer to a Sgt. Pepper's kind of concept album, and they pulled it off really well. Great album! Favorite tracks: Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend, Death on Two Legs, '39, Seaside Rendezvous, Love of My Life. Album art: Very cool cover, a bit minimalist in framing, but the image is really ornate. Great colors and design, and the font is cool too. Not quite as memorable as I wish it was, but it's a good one. 4/5

An incredibly eclectic and ambitious album. While the album has moments where is varies in quality, the high points are historically amazing. Bohemian Rhapsody and Love of my Life are so original and intricate. I really liked "Lazing on a sunday Afternoon" While it's not always my style, they do what they do perfectly. Everything is played amazing, the vocals are fantastic. The music is bombastic but in a way that has aged well (which is rare) Going to give it 4 stars because while the best songs are all timer's. I only really liked about half the album

They could’ve shat in a bag and it still would’ve been gold

Going from from Bohemian Rhapsody to an old standard like God Save the Queen is among the biggest flexes in rock and roll history

A chameleon. Shifting through country, prog, pop and camp with ease.

So many of these songs sound like they could have been written for a musical, which I guess is the point. They make fun of I'm in Love With my Car in Bohemian Rhapsody but it's a pretty legit song.

Iconic af

Bohemian rhapsody

scaramouche, scaramouche

it’s the Queen album with Bohemian Rhapsody on it. that alone gives it a couple stars but it’s also a pretty solid album through and through

This is a funny album. It has bohemian rhapsody, sure - But it also has I'm in love with my car which kind of cancels that out. 4/5

Excellently produced and engineered album that runs the gambit of musical style. Theatrical and flamboyant but also punches hard on the rock tracks and solos.

This is like the Beatles meets Zeppelin. A little trippier than I was expecting. Great work by Queen

The Prophet’s Song and Love of My Life are too slow; I prefer Lazy on a Sunday Afternoon, You’re My Best Friend, Good Company, Bohemian Rhapsody

4.6 I mean it’s pretty good.

What a knockout. This is Queen hitting their stride. Pretty much only The Prophet's Song recalls their earlier proggy work as found on Queen II and their debut. The rest of the work absolutely wrecks what their peers in prog, Very Serious Musicians, were doing (I'm looking at you, King Crimson and ELP, to name just two). Queen leapt onto the stage disguised as jesters (Bohemian Rhapsody, an absolute runaway hit when it was released) and revealed themselves to be kings with this album. This album sounds best when it's played LOUD.

I'm not sure about the 4th star but I'm giving for Freddie Mercury

Bohemian Rhapsody 5/5 Auch sonst ein schönes Album. Aber eben auch noch ein sehr frühes Album: "I'm in Love with My Car" ...

Queen never disappoints! This album was a bit more experimental but still great!

Not Queen’s finest album for me, but it still contains some truly great songs and one of the most beautiful album covers ever produced. There is huge variety here. Opera, balladry, hard rock and music hall all sit side by side. At times it feels almost over ambitious, but it is never dull. It is a great listen and undeniably bold. Three songs absolutely define the record. “You’re My Best Friend”, “Love of My Life” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” are incredible. They lift the album to another level and easily justify a strong four out of five. I also have to say how much I enjoy John Deacon’s writing. “You’re My Best Friend” is a perfect pop song. Warm, sincere and beautifully constructed. Deacon had a real gift for melody and heart, and his contributions always add something special to Queen’s albums. Favourite songs: Love of My Life and You’re My Best Friend Least favourite songs: I have never understood “I’m in Love with My Car”. It does nothing for me and I will never understand why it became a live staple. “Good Company” is also one I tend to skip. Album artwork: One of the very best album covers. Elegant, distinctive and instantly recognisable

Very high highs, but some lows. Favourites: Love of my Life Bohemian Rhapsody ‘39 You’re my best friend

There are really great moments on this album but in all honesty there are also some skippable songs. So while Queen here are as iconic as ever, the album doesn't quite reach the top. Honorable mention to my *discovery of the album* – The Prophet's Song. Some really cool harmonies

Just a fun album

Crispy productie en theater

Classic and good

Love Freddy's voice, love the operatic theme. Not as many standouts songs as I would've hoped. The harmonies from the chorus are always bangin. The popularity of Bohemian Rhapsody doesn't discredit my enjoyment of it (from overplaying, like some artists most popular songs), it is still a beautifully impressive and entertaining piece. Love the pianos when present, and the guitar riffs. Tough, want to give a 5 but there's a significant lull in the middle of the album. Top songs: Death on two legs The prophets song Love of my life Bohemian Rhapsody

In the moments when the album lives up to the promise of it’s title, Queen really shines. The songs that are big sweeping operatic features with powerful guitars and killer harmonies are all amazing and highlight what makes Queen so special. But it felt like there was a little more filler than I was expecting for such an esteemed classic. The highs of this album were still phenomenal though. Very Strong 4 Fav Songs: You’re My Best Friend Sweet Lady Good Company Bohemian Rhapsody

Lots to like, you forget sometimes how weird queen is.

upon relisten im not super crazy about it but the hits are so good im still giving it a 4

Come on. 4.

It’s Queen, what’s not to like!?

High highs, low lows.

Sometimes over the top, but a lot of great songs

This is only the second non-greatest hits Queen album I've listened to, although I think I enjoyed this more than their "greatest hits"! That said, favourite track, of course: Bohemian Rhapsody.

Wow. Je peux comprendre pourquoi il est autant populaire après autant d'années. Vraiment une belle diversité de styles sur cet album (dont le classique Bohemian Rhapsody).

that's queen

Really good!

The good is brilliant but -1 for the car song and a couple of others

some of Queen's best and most memorable songs are in here and the songwriting throughout is excellent. but a few songs are just completely overshadowed by Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend and simply feel out of place

Extravagant, exuberant, flamboyant, brilliant. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: Bohemia Rhapsody Date listened: 21/03/24

A bit too theatrical

I mean it's queen. Such an iconic sound that I am sure they were the first to do. There are some top 100 songs on here but some of the albulm was too experimental for me. I will probably listen again. 4/5

Maturing is realizing the best song on the album is actually '39.

B+ Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To ...) 5 Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 3 I'm In Love With My Car 3 You're My Best Friend 4 39 5 Sweet Lady 3 Seaside Rendezvous 3 The Prophet's Song 4 Love Of My Life 4 Good Company 3 Bohemian Rhapsody 5 God Save The Queen 3 I love Queen, but this has never been my favorite album of theirs. It's still great, though.

You're My Best Friend and Bohemian Rhapsody are both still monumental tracks and just as relevant as they were when they were released. I'm In Love With My Car was a surprise for me that I really liked. The rest of the record was a bit on the theatrical side for me by times.... Still Brian May and the Red Lady save the day so often it's hard to turn your nose up to this even when it's not my favourite stylistically.

Idk what else queen has to offer but I think they have an album that’s not a display of range of talents rather than their more pure rock&roll roots. Either way would love to have this in a collection and this may be Queens best to offer.

I recently bought this album

Musically impressive, the sound like they are having fun with this and had a couple of absolute classics. Had I been of an age at the time 100% this would have been in my collection.

I love Queen. Some absolute bangers on this album… and then ‘I’m in love with my car’!?! I don’t think it’d ever heard ‘death on two legs’ and really loved it! Some killer singing by Freddie and all round pretty great album! I don’t think it’d be on high rotation as a full album, but many songs I’ll revisit again and again Fave track: Love of my life

Queen coming into their full selves. Sounds, harmonies, and of course Bohemian Rhapsody.

You know, this was a good collection of songs. So much versatility on display in one album. I don’t know why everyone hates “I’m in Love With My Car”?

Strong album with some classic (Bohemian Rhapsody, Love of my Life) and some nice new tunes I hadn’t heard (‘39 and Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon)

Not the best Queen album, but still pretty great

I was impressed by the amount of different sounds that they were able to get out of a guitar. There was something about "Seaside Rendezvous and Good Company". Also, there is “You’re My Best Friend” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” in here so this has to, on some level, be a great album.

I'll copy and paste my review from 'Sheer Heart Attack' because I feel the exact same way about this album: There's no doubt Queen is one of the most legendary bands of all time and this is for good reason. In my opinion, they absolutely mastered the formula that combines a Broadway feel with some absolutely fire hard rock with crushing guitars. And of course, someone who can match Freddie Mercury's vocals is hard to find. All this said, this isn't necessarily music I would keep in my personal rotation, but I can absolutely appreciate it for what it is.

I mean, it has THAT song, but, it also has some pretty great other songs. Maybe the best Queen album?

Rating: 8.5/10 Great album overall. Really enjoyed the eclectic combination of genres, from rock and heavy metal to opera and acapella. The vocal harmonies are fantastic, each member possesses an impressive vocal range that complements each other so well and sounds so unique. The album is very theatrical and the vocal harmonies accentuate this immensely. The songwriting is also pretty diverse in sound and structure as each band member writes at least one song on here and there are three different lead vocalists; the progressive nature of a lot of the songs is very well done. Some of the theatrical elements are a bit much for me but this a great album. Favorite songs: Death on Two Legs, Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend, '39, Sweet Lady, Seaside Rendezvous, most of The Prophet's Song, Bohemian Rhapsody. Worst song: Good Company.

Queen, another band that had their own very unique sound that I guess you can call prog pop rock if it needs definition. The band’s talent shines and diversity through on this album. The vocals are stellar (both lead and backing), strong guitar playing (with May’s signature harmonized riffs), interesting bass lines, tight drumming, and solid production to hold it all together. Songs are well written and arrangements are always interesting, ranging from thoughtful/more serious to very quirky, whimsical, and jaunty. They show off their full range here and every moment seems carefully thought through. Obviously, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most iconic songs of all time. It’s a fun album, but a couple of ok songs and my lack of complete enthusiasm for Queen’s schtick (I like it, but don’t love it), prevents it from being a 5 for me.

I had high expectations for this one, and actually can't believe I didn't get around to it earlier considering how much I love Bohemian Rhapsody (the only song I knew before today). But about the whole album... I don't know what to think. It's obvious that they're geniuses. The album has this sort of dreamlike quality to it that a lot of the best albums do: it moves between completely different, unexpected sounds both between and within songs, which somehow makes it more cohesive rather than less. This is something you'll often find me praising albums for. In regards to the songs themselves though, I didn't find any of the other songs anywhere near as good as Bohemian Rhapsody. A lot of the songs just felt a little too joking. The only one similar in scale to Bohemian Rhapsody was Prophet's Song, and although I liked it at first, by the end I definitely didn't. It was too dark and that section with just the weird effected vocals was too much. I get that it's supposed to be "innovative," but it was unlistenable. When Bohemian Rhapsody came along, it wasn't even the epic finish it should've been (let's be real: God Save the Queen is a coda). Instead, the main thing I noticed was how obvious the disparity in quality was between this undeniable classic and the rest of the album, and how disappointed I was that it wasn't on a better album. The album wasn't bad, though. It could probably still grow on me if I actually cared to listen to it again, but I can't see myself bothering to do that unless this site introduces me to a Queen album I really love. There's just too much music in the world for me to do that.

highkey a lot more rock than i remember it being as a kid. favorite new song is Death on Two Legs. really refreshing to listen to

Structurally weird but awesome to listen to, as is expected by Queen.

It’s Queen.

A classic. No notes. Fav songs love of my lifr, sweet lady and of course bohemian rhapsody

Roger loved his car so much he almost ruined an entire album

סבבה. אבל אני כבר לא ככ שם

Very good very nice

I’d like to do something about global warming, but I also want to have sex with my car.

Don't listen to much Queen nor do I care for them that much but maybe this album will change that. Death On Two Legs - Meh Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon sounds like this one Spongebob song I can't place it. AH: The FUN song. Spongebob wipes. I'm In Love With My Car - Deserves ALL the hate it gets if it gets any You're My Best Friend - Classic song that I don't really give a shit about but it's not a bad song. '39 - Wow I like this one! Nice acoustic guitar ballad Sweet Lady - No Seaside - Ok The Prophet's Song - Sounds kind of like a Yes song surprisingly. I actually like this a lot. The acapella section is extremely creative and I love how it shifts between channels. This is some great mf prog. Love of My Life - BANGER. Forgot this song was next so the transition was great. This album saved itself. God I LOVE the vocal layering on this song. Good Company - Fuck this song. I'm sorry its another Spongebob-ass song that ruined such a good three-track run from TPS - LoML - BH. Its fine though just I don't like the uke. Bohemian Rhapsody - I mean come on; this is one of those "litmus test songs" where if you don't like it, there's something terribly wrong with you. While this song is already great, the best way to listen to this song is by belting it out with a shit ton of other people that also know the song, preferably hammered. Just a fun iconic song that deserves the credit it gets. God Save The Queen - Hella British. Probably politically charged lol After 1 listen my opinion has somewhat been changed. I went into this thinking I wouldn't like it and that BH was the only worthwhile listen on this LP, and I was wrong. I still don't think it's amazing or anywhere near amazing (other than BH and LoML) and some of the songs piss me off, but it's a good album at the end of the day. Ok lazing on a sunday afternoon has its place. It's like that one friend that is entertaining half the time but god awful annoying the other half. Solid album. Definitely helped shift my perspective a bit. Solid 7.5/10

bohemian rhapsody is obviously epic, but there's some not as great songs on here as well

Enjoyed immensely. Puts me in a mood and pace to finish my tasks

A wild circus of music that is electric and engaging. Freddie Mercury is such a showman. Thanks to my British father, Queen was a mainstay of my childhood and I’m still a fan to this day. This is a nice reminder of my youth.

Que sí, que son lo mejor que le pongo cuatro estrellas pero es que ni lo quiero escuchar

Wild in the disparate directions and talents on display here. It's more interesting and a wild time capsule of a lot of what a band could do on a single album, than something I feel like I connect with. If it'd been something you listened to with the first time you heard Bohemian Rhapsody it probably would stick with a person more. '39 was a great discovery. 3.5

"Love Of My Life".

Descubrimiento de un grupo que arraso´. Algunas buenas canciones y otras no tanto. Gran voz y guitarra.

Niettemin 4 sterren.

Is was good.

4 - I really like a decent chunk of the songs on here. I do have this one on vinyl and never got around to the b-side, so it's nice to finally finish it. The songs that I didn't know didn't really catch my attention, but they were still good. A lot of the tracks flow into each other seamlessly, which is always cool. I'm glad I got around to it.

🎧 Seaside Rendezvous 🎧 Good Company 🎧 Love Of My Life (Live)

One of the classic songs of all time. A few other greats in here. The rest of the album had nothing overly memorable.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a classic and immediately brings me back to my youth. It was cutting edge and truly amazing then and remains so today. The album has a couple of other great tracks and some cuts that are not particularly noteworthy.

Fantastic album, with perhaps their most biggest hits. While I liked most of the songs, I could do with the barber quartet style songs. Standout tracks: Death On Two Legs (Decicated To...), I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend, The Prophet's Song, Love Of My Life, Bohemian Rhapsody 8,5 out of 10

In high school, I had a CD of Queen's greatest hits and I listened to it constantly. I always just thought of myself as a fan of Queen. However, I just can't bring myself to care about this album. I feel guilty because I can hear that it's really good. Excluding the hits on this album, I have no interest in returning to the rest of it.

Q: What can you say about Queen that hasn't already been said? A. Nothing. Brian May and Roger Taylor are two of Rock's greatest musicians. Freddie Mercury, the archetypical [wrong word?] singer. John Deacon, always in the background but always providing the perfect bass line. This album includes my all-time favorite Queen song, I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CAR, and, of course, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, plus DEATH ON TWO LEGS and '39. Production is insanely clean and crisp (thank you, Roy Thomas Baker). SWEET LADY, kind of a throwaway bit, and SEASIDE RENDEZVOUS, a vaudevillian fun tune, were probably enjoyable to create, but hearing them once per decade is plenty. THE PROPHET'S SONG is somewhat self-indulgent. Actually, very self-indulgent. And 5 minutes too long. Not my favorite of the early Queen albums. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ __________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 30 🎧 LPs left to review: 971 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 8 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 10 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 8

Haven’t listened to this list in a while and this was a fun one to come back to.

Queen is one of the biggest bands in the world. Simple as that. There is no denying it. And I think they have every right to be. Every member of the band was individually an amazing artist on their own. And together, their energy flowed into the creation of some of the most lively and creative rock music of the 70’s, and possibly ever made. A Night at the Opera is probably their strongest work. It contains the most key elements of their music, and cuts out all the unnecessary stuff. I think you would be hard pressed to find any other kind of rock band that was making music as bombastic and theatrical as this is. It’s completely massive and magnificent, like an expensive chandelier, and they indulge themselves in this sound. They are not afraid to be so out there, so in your face, and completely blow your socks off with how over the top it is. Listen to The Prophet’s Song and try to tell me that the section where Freddie is just layering harmony after harmony isn’t completely unnecessary but totally needed at the same time. Freddie by himself is one of the most driving vocalists to ever live. His voice just floats and glistens like mercury (no pun intended), and he is stellar here. But so is every member. There is not one performance that falls flat. I also need to speak solely about Bohemian Rhapsody. Because I probably could have written an entire review of this length on that one song. I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t care how many times I hear it. I will forever love that song. It is the band’s magnum opus, and one of the single greatest rock songs ever recorded by. This album is a true rock experience. It wants you to know how much it loves itself, and I’m all for how wild it is. I’m not one of them, but theater kids will forever love Queen. Rating: 8/10

An excellent classic. Dramatic and lush

Favourite Song: Bohemian Rhapsody The best songs are absolutely some of the all-time greats. The worst songs are therefore very noticeable and do drag the album down at times.

A really neat album. It's got some standards like "You're My Best Friend" and Bohemian Rhapsody. I was surprised about the more jaunty tracks like "'39" and "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon." Queen albums are really eclectic. I really love their harmonies and how all their songs showcase true talent and a knack for trying new things.

Revised from a 5. The album has one of the best and most creative songs ever written, Bohemian Rhapsody, but on repeat listens the album doesn’t reach the height of other 5’s. It’s still bloody brilliant and definitely is a stellar listen. 4.5.

It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to this classic album in full. Another fun recommendation from the list. It starts out darker than I remember, Death on Two Legs is no fluffy fun song but a great opener. I’m In Love With My Car is a much better song than it’s made out to be, who cares if it’s not Freddie singing it, the vocals are actually great and May’s guitar shines on it. You’re my best friend is of course a classic, great sounding track. ‘39 is a bit of an odd tune, I didn’t realize or had forgotten that May sings on it. It’s pretty cool though that it’s about space travel, what with May’s PhD in astrophysics. Sweet Lady is another song that isn’t bad by any stretch, the breakdown at the end of the song is pretty rad, but the middle of the album sort of feels like an obstacle to get through to Bohemian Rhapsody. That’s my biggest take away listening to this again. It’s a great album, and BR is one of the great works of art rock-n-roll has provided to us, but “all killer no filler” is not how I’d describe ANATO. Still worthy of 4 stars and a fantastic record, but in my humble opinion Bohemian Rhapsody saves what would otherwise be a somewhat pedestrian album.

This album rocks. With the distorted guitars, the symphonic elements, and Freddie Mercury’s captivating vocal harmonies, this album is one of a kind. It fades through slow ballads and triumphant songs with amazing guitar solos, making you want to cry and head-bang at the same time.

This album is a high concept, operatic album. It has complex harmonies, esoteric instruments and incredibly unique arrangements. It is a totally unique album. And Freddy Mercury’s vocals are absolutely amazing.

Didn't really enjoy the 1st couple of songs but the rest of the album was good

I've already heard a lot of these songs. it's not my favorite queen album but death on two legs still goes hard

Took me a while to get into the right mood, but I like Queen. How awesome is I'm in love with my car! Didn't know this one before..

Queen has a style to their music that almost resembles classical music. Most western music tends to focus on repetitive riffs with repeating chords and a chorus. Queen does not. Each song is a journey with ups and downs in tempo. It’s done masterfully. 8/10

I mean, Queen.

Brining back the memories!

Never actually listened to the whole album before but it's really cool. I would have never have guessed that Bohemium Rhapsody would have been the last track on that album!

Fun album.

Pretty cool. Not sure if I’ve ever listened to a queen album start to finish. Definitely didn’t know bohemian rhapsody was from this album.

My first Queen album - I’d always regarded them as a singles act before - and this was a lot better than I expected. Fun, eclectic, and containing the greatest rock song ever

really good for 1975. ez 4

Gotta love Queen!

Classic

I only knew one song from the entire album, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Et par rigtig gode og en del ok runder op fra stor 3er

YES NIGHT AT THE OPERA BY QUEEN YES.

This endure album felt like showtunes and I’m kind of here for it

Good iconic Queen album. Always want to like Queen more than I should but it's often hit or miss with the misses being a little bit too, corny maybe? Bohemian Rhapsody bumps up the rating of the album.

Obviously being carried by one iconic song, but solid overall.

4.5 great album except that car song

This was a real blast from the past. I didn't own this album but my friend did, and I was brought right back to my tween years listening to this in her bedroom. I don't know if we even realized how groundbreaking this band was at the time. They were going into all kinds of sonic directions here. We were just obsessed with Bohemian Rhapsody and it still sounds just as good.

Great album Big swings, big songs Would be 5 if it didn't have the last song

Good end to end. 39 was a refreshing song.

Con Queen nunca fallas. Una de las mejores canciones de todos los tiempos dentro de este disco que, por otra parte, no suena todo lo Queen que esperaba

I don't know that this was a repeat forever noskip album but it is nice to see Queen's vision across a record and not just from a greatest hits playlist

Viele Lieder noch nie gehört, aber trotzdem ganz OK.

I don't think I've ever listened to this album before. And there's some tosh on it. However, there is also a couple of the best tracks ever to come out of Queen.

starts with a bang than wanders off lost me at prophet's song whole album is all over the place, needs some focus too much different genres without any transition

Guitar heavy, ripping solos, stadium rock. Some funny little songs, team effort with everyone getting songwriting credits throughout. Mercury and May doing much of the work. Great driving record (literally and for in your car). "The Prophet's Song" has real Led Zep vibes. Not much flow or cohesion between tracks, but still very clearly a Queen record. Bangers, ballads, and... operatic!

Wild queer morphing sounds that weep and laugh

Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To...) - 8.6 - great guitar. fun lyrics, like "do you feel like suicide" Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon - 8.4 - fun. silly. whimsical. music box music. I'm In Love With My Car - 6.8 - feels more serious. shouldn't be. You're My Best Friend - 7.5 - boring lyrics. so happy. vocals save it '39 - 8.3 - first real song since the first one. Sweet Lady - 7.6 - nice guitar solo. boring lyrics Seaside Rendezvous - 8.5 - sounds ragtimey. similar to LOASA, over-hapy and a bit corny but it doesn't take itself to seriously like IILWMC. The Prophet's Song - 7.7 - could've done without the a capella serenade. Love Of My Life - 8.8 - shades of Bohemian Rhapsody present here with the piano and vocals. Good Company - 8.0 - like the ukulele, not structure. Too peppy. Bohemian Rhapsody - 9.8 - i mean. what can I say. God Save The Queen - 7.6 - not much to say. good rendition of god save the queen.

it was not bad. I can obviously understand how this is a classic of its time.

Good intro to the Queen catalogue

Love of my Life, You're my best friend and legendary Bohemian Rhapsody. Great album

Queen.

could i write poetry to this? y

Awesome album. Four and one-half stars. Only loses a half-star because I like their "Jazz" album even more.

yaaaas kween

Heard of Queen and heard of this album. A fun one to start the day. Bohemian Rhapsody is an absolute classic. 4/5.

Some truly incredible songs, and some kinda shit songs. The good songs are so good you kinda forget the silly little songs are even there.

This album and most of it's songs come rushing at you at 1000 kilometers a second, with each song dragging you through a different story at a different pace. One thing that has been overstated about this album but must be mentioned once again is the clear musical genius that Mercury was, and because of that, a lot of the songs of this album that were sung by or written by other members of the band lead to a slight drop in quality. The vocal performances, the amazing drums and guitar on most tracks and the energy that a lot of these tracks have is incredible and I haven't really experienced that on the albums I've listened to so far (maybe The Ramones' self titled match in terms of energy but in terms of incredible variety from track to track it's not even close). The only fault in this album really is the weak songwriting on a lot of tracks especially in the middle portion. Rating - 3.5/5

For many, this is Queen's best album. A nice blend of fun songs but also very ambitious songs. Considering they were almost fucked by their management (called out in the opening song "Death on Two Legs"), this album sounds like a last hurrah; why not make your most fun trolling songs (I'm in Love with my Car), a sci-fi song hidden in a folsky song ('39), a fun pastiche (Seaside Rendezvous), an encompassing epos (The Prophet's Song) and most off all, a queer cowboy song about regret and shame (Bohemian Rhapsody) if it might be the last chance before the managers leave you bankrupt? Decent 4

You’re My Best Friend is their best song.

Im in love with my car xD

Like queen. Like singles. Filler is just decent queen. In all a good album if you like queen. Nuff said I guess.

More like a 4.5

Best song: death on two legs/bohemian rhapsody Overall: 8.5/10

I used to think Queen didn’t have a GREAT album until I heard this. It’s wall to wall hits (outside of the love song to the car), and features all kinds of genres which Freddie fits with ease.

Queen is one of those bands that I love so many songs from them, but I never listened to an album. So now is a good chance to rectify that...and this is the album that holds my favourite of their songs; Bohemian Rhapsody (insert Wayne's World gif here). Looking at the track lists, I thought I only knew two songs from this album, but there was so much more here that I recognise, I obviously didn't know the names. Queen is a band that loves to take you on a journey and I know there were so history that inspired the album, this was so much of an amazing listen, just because I never knew what genre to expect for each song. I remember hearing the back story for I'm in Love with My Car and it felt so weird to hear a different vocalist here. I never knew Queen used different vocalists for their music, it really adds to the variety of their musical styles. Standouts: Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...), You're My Best Friend, '39, The Prophet's Song, Love of My Life, Bohemian Rhapsody

Not a huge Queen guy but was good

Can't deny the hits Bohemian Rhapsody and Best Friend, and I love the crazy compression in the production and the layered vocals. But the quirky dance hall and oldies numbers are grating.

Great album. Freddie mercury is a singer that can make anything sound good. I liked the song 39.

Just a really wild and fun ride of an album. Can't complain, I'll call it a 4 with room to grow. Bohemian Rhapsody kinda steals the show though, so a 4 seems like where it should be. 🤷

Badda bing

Cool, hadn't heard much outside their most popular ones

Once again, I have to admit that I own this album on vinyl, but I've never listened to all of it, even though I've listened to a lot of Queen's music. I know this is widely regarded as their best album, so I had high hopes heading into it. This album is great, but it falls short of five stars for me. The singing and production are absolutely fantastic, and listening to it with a good set of headphones really enhanced the experience. "You're My Best Friend" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" were the only two songs that I was familiar with from this album. "You're My Best Friend" is fantastic, with its sweet lyrics and the use of the Wurlitzer piano; it's one of my favorite sounding songs in Queen's discography. Over the years, "Bohemian Rhapsody" has kind of worn thin on me, but listening to it today, I can really appreciate its vocals and unique structure. The fact that it became such a hit, despite being almost six minutes long is quite a feat. I also liked "Death on Two Legs," but the biggest surprise for me was "'39." I loved the lyrics, and the guitar playing with the thumping bass and drums created a really unique sound that I'm not used to from Queen. To top it all off, the vocals on this song were great too. I was really hoping that this would be a five star album for me, but it fell a little bit short. Several of the songs weren't very interesting, and the album just didn't have a very cohesive feel to it for me.
