Reviews (page 4 of 7)

A nice change of pace/genre. Nothing particularly stood out to me and nothing is going in the daily rotation from this album, but I didn’t actively dislike anything either.

Standouts - Outside Myself - Constant Craving I was initially worried by the country genre but it ended up being more contemporary which was a nice surprise Generally enjoyable but nothing all that special 3

Beautiful voice

It was an alright. Not my usual cup of tea.

Jeg lå på en stor 2’er det meste af tiden, meget bedre end den sidste vi havde med hende. Sidste nummer fik den op på 3, den kendte jeg allerede men vidste ikke hvem der havde lavet den

Y'know, for a moment there I was honestly wondering why I couldn't engage with this album like I wanted to. And it wasn't because it was 4 in the morning when I listened to it; I'm normally fine right before I go to bed. No, there was something else that just wasn't clicking with me... Which just felt weird to me, because for all intents and purposes I should have been into this. k.d. lang remains a very pretty singer, for one. The exact words don't matter; she could be singing absolute gibberish and I'd love listening to her. So it wasn't that I had an issue with her voice. Nor was it that I had any problems with the instrumentation. It's this sort of midground between country and big band balladry, and I could see how some people could find this boring ... heck, I'm not gonna say I was excited by it 100% of the time either ... but again, it's pretty shit. Just taking this all on a purely sonic level, I should've been all for this album. And yet, I found myself struggling to pay attention. What was the deal? It occurred to me at some point near the end. See, I'd read on this album's Wikipedia page that the album was cabaret-influenced — and I should dig that. At least from the adjacent stuff I've taken in (aka the film adaptation of 'Chicago') I should **love** cabaret. But, y'see, the kind of cabaret I enjoy is ... y'know, it's over the top. A bit out there. **Theatrical** and all that. It's the kind of thing why I grew to enjoy Ute Lemper's album for the most part, back when my group got that. And it's not that k.d. isn't aiming for any kind of theatricality here. It's just that, the way she's doing it ... I'd call it "sizzle." Y'know: "sizzle." It's when the theatricality and dramatics aren't immediately obvious; you needa lay back and simmer in the shit first. Think of it like any movie that relies heavily on its atmosphere and nuanced performances. It's stuff you can get incredibly invested in, if you're willing and able to go along with it. And I was willing, of course. I don't partake in this randomizer for 700 days just to give up on the 702nd or whatever. But "able"? That's a different story. I've expressed before that I have AuDHD. I **can** focus in heavily shit, but it really depends on how well it appeals to the way my mind works. Otherwise, I can have a pretty weak attention span that I often hafta fight to keep on track. And it wasn't like I had to do too much fighting with this album, but ... I mean, it's like any movie that relies heavily on its atmosphere and nuanced performances. My brain just often doesn't have the patience for the sizzle and I find myself getting distracted easily — or I just fall asleep. Usually it's the latter. And, like, that's just my personal issue with this album. It's very pretty all around, but besides a few songs it's also way more subdued than my mind can really handle. Like, if this album was straight-up country music, rhat'd be one thing ... or if went further into big band cabaret shit. But this transitionary middle ground just didn't do it for me. Like, either go all the way with or don't, y'know? I mean, I'll stress, I don't think it's bad at all. Once more and again, it's very pretty, so just sonically, perhaps as background music, I can give it a pass (and I'm not the kind of person who thinks calling something background music is an insult). But as some I know I'm probably supposed to pay attention to ... it's just a personal issue, but I can't act like it won't affect my rating, y'know? Sorry, k.d. — I liked the other album my group got from you, at least. And I guess I can only hope I find your next one a tad more interesting.

Nice, mature singer-songwriter album. This is classy, sophisticated music with great production and great vocals from k.d. lang. Not really my taste, but I can definitely see why she’s respected.

Nice singer songwriter album. I've heard of k.d. lang before but never really dug too deep. They have a nice sound, with a real soothing voice and tastefully instrumentation. It's a 2.5 for me, enough to round to a 3. While it's a nice sound, I don't know if it's one of the best albums of all time.

Great voice, fun arrangements. This one kind of surprised me with the musicality.

really good and calming

Couple of songs I enjoyed but for the most part it was a bit too country-esque for me. Think there's only one song I would listen to again.

New to me. Enjoyed the quieter songs on this and think she’s a great singer but some of the more upbeat ones are overdone and felt a bit corny.

Little Broadway lot of old country. It’s a nice clean album but bland.

Another high-quality album from a truly talented artist

This was...fine. I didn't hate it but I may never listen to it again.

I prefer her countrier tunes but this is pretty good

More interesting than I expected

Not my jam

Nice album of romantic ballads. Lang's voice is on point. 3.5/5.

It was alright, didn’t love it or hate it

Decent

Ok I guess. 3 *

She has a lovely voice but this album wasn't for me

Good mix of ethereal vocals with emotional instruments. Definitely a unique sound and pleasant to listen to. Overall 3.5/5

Decent songwriting, I suppose, but there was nothing in the presentation to grab me. I put it on while doing some other things, and my brain barely acknowledged that there was music playing. It's better than a two, so I'll round up.

hypnotizing smooth music. gorgeous voice. truly captivating.

It really is a beautiful album, and KD has a sweet voice. No complaints. Not really something I’d play on regular, as it all starts to sound the same. Dang, I guess that makes it background music.

Very nice vibe, reminds me of Eleanor McEvoy and Joni Mitchell but more sultry.

Monotonne, aczkolwiek sympatyczne

Not a bad album but not really my cup of tea. Good female vocals and album composition. Outside Myself was the standout track.

Good but slow

I didn't know that all of her songs are so slow and put me to sleep.

I've heard Constant Craving my entire life and had no idea it was k.d. lang.

What are the chances that the first album would be by someone as androgynous as I would like to be. It’s not my usual cup of tea since it’s kinda slow and with jazzy singing but I’m glad I listened

This was not something I'd go to normally, but this was a beautiful voice to accompany me on my Tesco shop. Very pleasant and calming and at just the right tempo.

A perfectly reasonable album for this list without blowing my socks off. Nice alt country/rock with some good tunes, a nice voice and an origional perspective.

This is #day440 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… it's a sunny October morning here in Lviv, and the music matches the scene. I'd never heard of this artist before. Wikipedia lists "country" among the genres, though I'd argue with that. Signature '90s folk/pop-rock singer-songwriter music. It was fun to learn that "Constant Craving" inspired The Stones' "Anybody Seen My Baby?" This is a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day441.

I have heard of k.d. lang and was familiar with the hit but that was it so I was going in with little expectations. She has an interesting voice, pleasant and full of emotions. Her sound is just a little different and just a little unique. Close to mainstream but just does it a little differently, making a sound that is pleasant, enjoyable and one that makes you listen twice. I don't know if I necessarily connected with any of the songs, but I wanted to.

Not bad. As other reviews have stated the songs on Ingenue are the weakest part. k.d.'s performance is great and the style reminds me of some of Elvis Costello's pop albums.

Post-nuclear country from 92. And Conctant craving. That's a reason to the albums to the far end.

Meh. Ça me donne peu d’émotions dans un direction comme dans l’autre.

The one everyone knows and the other songs. Constant Craving is pretty good and very plaintive (is that negative, I don't mean it as such). The rest is just very MOR. It's fine basically, I wasn't offended by having to listen, but I don't think it'll live long in the memory.

I enjoyed this more than I thought, definitely a discovery. Never heard of her before.

An incredible voice and song writing. I can see if I gave this a few listens and came back to it, it could easily be a 5. For now though it didn't make an immediate connection with me. Fav track: Outside Myself

Beautiful voice

Pleasant, enjoyable, and in a list of 1001 tracks, I guess it earns its right to be included

sembra di stare nel deserto, ma non ha niente di africano o cose cosi

я не помню другую её музыку что слышала но эта приятная, хоть и местами слишком вибрато + околокантри

A few decent songs, just couldn’t get into the groove

Loved Constant Cravings so thought I’d really like the album but the rest was just meh. Not bad but just not my genre.

Lang has an absolutely gorgeous voice. Beautiful tone and the quality of the songs are fantastic. It makes for great, calming background music. This being said, the songs are not exactly the most memorable. I will not go as far as to say I was completely bored by it because I was just so impressed by k.d. lang's voice, but a great voice does not a great album make. It's certainly pretty but lands in the middle of the road for me overall.

nice safe album. ticks all the boxes.

Lot of hype around this one when it came out, I've owned a copy for years. She is a wonderful voice and this is a nice record but it's never got me super excited

Another singer – songwriter style album. Fine to listen to but not something I would ever seek out on my own.

I expected the sulky 90s tunes like “constant craving”, the hit I heard back then. I didn’t expect the ABBA-esque “season of the hollow soul” or the sped up bossonova of “Miss chatelaine”. I liked this more than I thought I would!

Amazing voice, music ok

Pretty good but bit too samey

Lovely production and voice. Nice chill country vibes, think this is a 3.5 but don’t think I’ll come back to it enough to get to 4.

i see the influence on modern day sad girl indie but i have no real liking for it other than alberta

Mélodies agréables, très belle voix. Un peu ennuyant pour mes oreilles mais fait un très bon album de fond.

you know what? I really enjoyed!

Constant Craving

This was quite bland and uninteresting but not necessarily in a bad way. Bits of it I enjoyed but more in a ‘here’s something ok going on in the background’. Probably the best thing Smooth FM could ever play. After a quick wiki search I think I find her more interesting than the record.

Still Thrives This Love, and Season of a Hollow Soul were the standouts (although, they did blend together). I found the album overall quite enchanting, and not in the least bit irritating. My main criticism is the lack of anything memorable - incredibly inoffensive. The perfect music for a boutique coffee shop, where I can drink a matcha latte with oat milk, and pick an enormous print book off the shelf on Rothko. The owner's name is Michelle, and she doesn't open late on Wednesdays, when she has to pick up the twins from lacrosse. The village fête is at the weekend, and she's promised two dozen artisanal geometric cakes for the bake sale. She doesn't have time for Linda Rondstadt.

Classic 3.5 stuff A fun fact about me is that my only reference for kd lang for a long time was the Pee-Wee Herman Christmas special

Save Me 3 The Mind of Love 3.2 Miss Chatelaine 3.4 Wash Me Clean 3.1 So It Shall Be 3.1 Still Thrives This Love 3.3 Season of Hollow Soul 3.4 Outside Myself 3.2 Tears of Love's Recall 3.1 Constant Craving 3.3 Score: 3.21

Beyond torch - the best of these hit serious highs

Not bad but a bid meh

pleasant but dull

Adult contemporary stuff. A bit bland for me but Still Thrives This Love is kind of cool with a tango vibe.

Extremely gentle and palatable songs. Perfect for a somewhat classy dinner with your parents that you didn't even really want to host in the first place. Halfway through, my mind drifted off and started to wonder what k.d. could stand for. My top contenders were Krazy Diane, Kid Dock and Konkey Dong.

Favorite Track: Constant Craving

I enjoyed it more than the last one from her. Less country twang and more lush instrumentation and hooks. 6/10

Didn’t love it, can see the appeal though. Won’t come back to this one but the closing track is a classic

yayy! lesbian music. Pretty chill album not really much to say except its lesbian music so it automatically gets points from me. 6/10 Favourite: The Mind Of Love Least Favourite: Season of Hollow Soul

Nice singing and nice instrumentals but a little boring overall.

A good album, a pleasure to listen and forgot about work 3/5

Soulfulness that reaches towards Ronstadt and a 70´s sensibility

A good album, I liked Still Thrives This Love, Season Of Hollow Soul and Constant Craving.

It is ok

This is undeniably beautiful but so bland it needs a lot of chilli sauce with it. Constant Craving is a banger of course.

Really beautiful voice. Great album when in the right mood. 3.5

It was... fine. I could see this being played at a wine bar. She has a lovely voice. Nothing, however, stood out. She gets three stars for the vibe.

Like a really laid back lounge act. Relaxing and both sad and happy at the same time

Lots of very well performed and sung songs that are fundamentally mediocre.

Great voice and instrumentation, a bit Loungy

Much better than her lacklustre debut Shadowland, which is also an entry on this list. Ingenue starts with a warm, well-arranged number in Save Me. The acoustic guitar, light hand percussion, and velvety vocals (lead and backing) make for a solid texture. Gorgeous old-timey strings (think original Disney fairytale films) are used frequently throughout the album in combination with some pretty great backing vocals and solid mixing to create a generally lovely, albeit not unique, sound. The first half of the album is much more consistent than the second in this regard, with most of tracks 1-5 following this same warm mid-tempo feel. k.d. lang's singing is fine, about on par with her previous performances. The entire sound is a bit held back - something I also took issue with in Shadowland. I felt the whole time (in Ingenue) that k.d. lang was searching for a big break, a rocky blast of emotion and loud percussion somewhere in one or several of the songs. Instead, every song is more or less the same volume and textural depth as the rest. We do get a variety of genres and harmonic ideas though, from the jazzy swing and unexpected stadium-rock change in Season of Hollow Soul to the soft, introspective Wash Me Clean, to the upbeat pop of Constant Craving. Tears of Love's Recall is the worst song of the pack because it forgoes any kind of memorable memory in favour of... something. I'm not really sure what k.d. lang saw in this composition but I definitely don't see it. 3/5 Key tracks: Miss Chatelaine, Still Thrives This Love, Season of Hollow Soul

2.6 Not sure what happened there but she seemed to break me down towards the end. With a couple of songs to go I was ready to absolutely maul it, calling it one of the more boring things I've listened to for weeks. Suddenly the last 3 songs started to click. Can't say I'm desperate to go back and check if I was wrong, but seemingly ok background music. Not really my thing though. How did this win a Grammy lol.

Great voice but this was pretty forgettable

kar sm poslusla taku chill, dobru, ma preuc chill zame

Not bad

Like if Sade wasn't as good

pleasant music

In the words of a certain masked Batman villain: "That's a lovely, lovely voice." Alas, the songwriting felt pretty middle-of-the-road for me. Hovering between a 3 and 4 out of 5, depending on my mood for any given day.

It’s quite nice. Nothing spectacular though

Very lounge feel

Still Thrives This Love sounds like a Bond movie theme song. Very chill and inoffensive music. It's not gonna pump you up but maybe if I were just trying to relax in the tub or something?

Interesting stuff I have never heard before.

Bien, me gustó. Me pareció una especie de Alison Krauss pero sin el country. Tiene dos o tres canciones bastante disfrutables y el resto del disco no está mal. No me volvería fan, pero sí volvería a escucharlo.

🎧Not loving the “cabaret flavor” on display here. Chill background music though.

Much better than the previous K.D. Lang album we had (Shadowland). This was not a country album like that, but felt more "french", for lack of better words (or cabaret, as Wikipedia describes it). K.D's voice lends itself great for this type of music, and it all feels very tasteful. 'Miss Chatelaine' was without a doubt my favourite song of the album. Very playful and nice to listen to. 'Wash Me Clean' sounds incredible and is a true reference for HiFi environments. The album overall was perhaps not extremely exciting at all times, but I found it overall a bit different from the usual albums on this list, and had enjoyed hearing the record. Right in the middle for me!

Enjoyed this more than the last K.D Lang album we had. The country tones were turned down a bit which felt less like a wannabe country record and more like a record with some country influences. Otherwise, I have the same criticism as last time, everything just feels a bit too nice and too safe. You will not offend anyone by putting this on, which means it also can’t reach the highest heights. A collection of “nice” songs and at the end “Constant Craving” is really a step above the rest and the first truly memorable song on the record. She sure can sing.

Kd does not need 2 albums on this list. Kind of boring but fine. Some decent stuff at the end. Light 3.

Definitely a great voice. That said, this is a little to mellow for me.

I liked the instrumentals but found the overall concept to be a bit too close to country for my taste

Fun pseudo folk country. With some familiar songs.

Pleasant vocals, good writing, dark tones, but ultimately not something I can relate to or vibe with. Pinnacle of divorced wine mom music, but I can appreciate how well done it is.

I enjoyed this, and this is one I don't think I'd have gotten around to listening to this.

More like k.d. bland, amirite? Better than Shadowland.

K.D actually stands for Kenneth Drusilla. She was named after myself, Kenneth Chutney. Very proud of that. 3.1 8. OUTSIDE MYSELF

good but i'm not into it idk ?!

Decent if slightly forgettable, still thrives this love was a personal Favourite

A very pleasant, easy-to-listen-to album. Miss Chatelaine was the clear standout for me. I don't think I'll be returning to this, but I still enjoyed what I heard.

I enjoyed this very much as chill background music, and it segued nicely into some easy listening jazzy/coffeehouse music. I wouldn't seek this out specifically within the genre, but I enjoyed it

Oh, more k.d.lang. Apparently if you're worth including at all, you're worth including twice - so many repeat entrants on this list. At least this album is all originals, unlike Shadowland. And while I found the first few tracks pretty ordinary, I enjoyed So It Shall Be and felt the quality picked up from that point on.

"Constant Craving" stands far out of the rest of the album for me. 2,5

This was interesting. Not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't really it. This was pretty easy listening actually. Had no idea she was Canadian or anything. I've only ever really heard her referred to as a lesbian and nothing else about her actual talent.

Just harmless singer songwriter music with little that's special about it, let alone 1001 list worthy. 6/10

reminds me of pretty little liars. ive never seen pretty little liars

Again, just fine. Nice voice, "Constant Craving" is the best song. I was reminded of Lyle Lovett while listening to this.

First couple songs are really good, kind of meh on the rest. Good songs, but nothing super memorable.

She was deeply in the throes of a crush when she wrote this - it's soft and the words are longing and eager

Listened to on 5/6/25 3/5 Favorite song: Miss Chatelaine, Outside Myself Chill vibing music. Very NYC coffee shop on rainy day in the fall with a cappuccino. I’m not convinced the songs were that different from one another

Album is a bit of a beating to listen to with how ballad-y the whole thing is, but K.D. Lang does have a great voice. There’s some interesting inclusions of different genres in her music but a lot of the songs kind of just ran together. If I had to pick a favorite track, I’d go with Outside Myself.

This is like seductive cowboy music with a Broadway like twist. I feel like this could be the soundtrack to a musical for sure, like major Chicago vibes. I also feel like she could have inspired Shania Twain. Undeniably amazing vocal performance though! Favorite song: Miss Chatelain Season of Hollow Soul

It's a beautiful album - enjoyed listening to it a few times

1st song sounds like restaurant playlist sounds like jeff buckley if he added kazoo idk how i feel about the second song oh I like this guitar I like the instrumentals on it but the vocals are a bit funky miss chateline is very musical theatre esque I think this whole album has theatrical elements is that an accordion? is this a jesus album still thrives this love is kind of like yeah I quite like it I actually really like season of hollow soul favourite I think the songs in this are either really hit or miss last song is alright

Sleek kind of vibe that reminds me of Sade. I really liked the album, but didn’t have time to finish it because we were at Syd Symphony. So 3/5 but will probably be promoted to 4/5 upon second listen.

an interesting listening experience. very smooth. i thought the instrumentation was good. My favs were Miss Chatelaine and Constant Craving, which i now realise are the most popular tracks. I'm not super into this vibe as it reminds me too much of my church days lol but there are a couple tracks i'd listen to again.

Great singer. Nothing stood out for me though.

friendly. feel like my mom is a fan

Like the chill vibes it gives

I am not the target audience for this and k. d. lang’s sound isn’t really my thing. However - there are moments of beauty in an album full of queer love songs.

pior q é legal

possivelmente nunca escutarei novamente, mas num foi ruim de ouvir nao!!

she was pregnant with chappell roan when she made this record

Some interesting parts, and Constant Craving is objectively a tune. Generous 3 stars

This is what I imagine a cocktail lounge on a cruise ship sounds like.

First listen

Gorgeous voice, but didn’t leave a real lasting impression on me.

I was a bit worried this was going to be chock full of slow jams based on Save Me, but luckily it got better from there. Miss Chatelaine was a fun, upbeat song that I wasn't expecting after the mood from the first song. So It Shall Be was another one I liked. The rest of the songs were kind of forgettable, but I appreciate that it wasn't full of slow country and that there was some variety from song to song. I would put this solidly as a 3.

Good voice and good composition. Not quite my type of music normally, but it was a pleasant listen, if not a bit boring.

Kind of the same as Emmylou where it is just a very good country/pop with good singing that was an easy listen. I'd say she wasn't as good of a singer but still could belt it. Constant Craving at the end was the best song. I'm glad I got this album out of the way early in the day because I am just ready for March Madness to start now.

Miss Chatelaine and Constant Craving were pretty good but the rest was nothing special.

I think this was her breakout hit. What happened to this artist afterwards?

This was kinda good.

Kende dit niet. Mooie stem, goeie pop, maar springt er niet uit ofzo. 3.2

Wow - was für ä Stimm. Ehner äs depressivs Album. Schad, das mit de Ziit für mich ächli eintönig wird.

Constant Craving came on the radio yesterday and I wondered when I'd get this album. It seems the universe was listening because this showed up today. I bought this CD back in the 90's and thought it was too easy listening so it only got a few plays. I still don't see myself pulling this one out to listen to, although I love her voice, smooth as velvet.

fine enough

Meh. It was fine.

Very pleasant

Pleasant but bland

> The Beatles

Nice music, relaxing, good songs

Slow and mellow.

k.d. lang! canadian country music! I'm looking forward to this one, as I'm both Canadian and like country music. k.d. has such a great voice, it's clear and emotional. "Miss Chatelaine" is the first track on this album that really got me going. I had a funny moment where I realized that there are a lot of people who don't remember that magazine! "Wash Me Clean" is a beautiful ballad but I'm starting to wonder if this isn't a country record...even though this is k.d.'s genre technically. So far I feel like this is her as a smoky lounge act, we shall see if I feel the same with more listening. "Season of Hollow Soul" has a great dramatic build up and then right back down to a upright bass solo I dig it. It took 8 tracks, but the first hint of country I hear is the guitar in "Outside Myself." Which is also a good song! Okay, so I've now made it to the end of the record. It's good, will I relisten? Probably not. But I do like that I got to listen to a fellow Canadian today. :)

Nice mellow album. Big hit Constant Craving

började segt, och sen lite sisådär. Men hon sjunger bra och sen "still thives this love" och "season of hollow soul" och sista var rätt bra. Så en stabil 3:a

Chill easy listening.

I really enjoyed this album. Totally mellow. Great songwriting start to finish. Very relaxing to listen to while I was working and didn't even realize I had gone through the whole album lol. Not something I'd normally grab and play and I have listened to almost nothing by K.D. - but this was very well done. Was not watching names of songs as they went through - I recognized one of them that I think was a hit on radio. Rest was great. Similar feel as something as like a Carole King perhaps, but not as good. Nothing jumps out as a 'wow' moment at all so I'll go in the middle, but I have no issues with this album.

That was pleasant

In theory I love this album but there is something about the quality of the guitar throughout the record that makes it sound like a sample from garage band. I’m sure with a few more listens I’ll get past this …

Nice songs, didnt find full album

Completely passed me by when released, k.d. Lang's voice is stunning (also amazing live) Constant Craving and Miss Châtelaine are my faves on the album.

01) Save Me - 6,5 02) The Mind of Love - 6,5 03) Miss Chatelaine - 7,5 04) Wash Me Clean - 7,0 05) So It Shall Be - 6,5 06) Still Thrives This Love - 7,0 07) Season of Hollow Soul - 7,0 08) Outside Myself - 6,5 09) Tears of Love's Recall - 6,5 10) Constant Craving - 10,0 TOTAL: 7,10 (71/100) Current ranking: 254/427

Better than I expected it to be, was a decent 1 time listen Will I listen to again: 1%

Always nice to get some CanCon up in this mafk. KD Lang is one of those artists where I have always been familiar with a couple of songs (Constant Craving & Miss Chatelaine), but I've never actually listened to her beyond those. Found a few pleasant surprises here, and a few songs that just kind of plod on. It's aight.

Really interesting. I enjoyed her voice quite a bit, and the sort of loungy, cabaret feel was not what I was expecting. There's a lot of Latin-sounding rhythms which were also not expected, but with more country acoustic guitars and fiddle. Oh, and some Italian-esque accordian stuff. Quite an intriguing mix of stuff going on.

- Nice and relaxing - Good music for a beach vacation

Not a fan of twangy country, but she does have an amazing voice. That said, I will never listen to this album again from beginning to end on purpose.

Great vocals but kind of a boring album. Let's split the difference. 3/5

Smooth music, nothing that jumped out at me but listening to the entire thing was easy.

Bought the CD of this, still around somewhere, got totally swept up by the hype, a country album for the mainstream, but it's a bit bland now. Lovely songwriting and great voice. But haven't wanted to put it on for years.

Great listen! I love the coffee-shop vibe of early 90's singer/songwriters and the fact that k.d. Lang has such variety in instrumentation and style. Very enjoyable album, I'll be looking into more of her stuff. "Constant Craving" transported me to a CVS Pharmacy.

Smooth.

So controversial when she first launched. Nice vocals but everything sounded like the same thing. No songs really struck. But proos for being an original when it was a lot tougher to be unique

Kind of fine. Nothing really stood out to me except that her voice is nice.

Lovely contemporary. Really dig her voice, oozes 90’s charm. 3.4

A great singer who seems to have a hard time finding the right material. I think this is probably her finest outing (so far?). Constant craving really great tune top to bottom if I can't get over the idea of using it for some pharmaceutical commercial.

I can't pretend that I was very excited by the sound of country-influenced adult contemporary. But k.d. lang has put together a pretty decent album here with more going on than I expected. The opening tracks didn't move me much but I appreciate the stylistic shift of 'Miss Chatelaine', which sounds like it comes from an upbeat musical. The instrumentation on 'So Shall It Be' and 'Still Strives This Love' are striking and soulful. But 'Constant Craving' is very clearly the stand out track on the album. So much so that it's surprising that it's been left for the final track. I can't say that I loved the whole album but k.d. lang can clearly write some good songs.

"Constant Craving" remains an all time song. The rest of the album doesn't rise to that level. Still better than her country debut that's already appeared in my list.

I didn't like this album as much as her debut, even though this one is her best-selling album. Maybe I missed the stripped down style of her first one. For that reason, I did quite like Save Me and Wash Me Clean. And I did enjoy the album more more on multiple listens - a couple songs that grew on me were The Mind of Love and Still Thrives This Love. And though I didn't love them when they came out I now don't mind her two big singles Miss Chatelaine and Constant Craving. Not a bad album overall.

Not a super fan

Lots of nice tunes, not entirely my taste tho.

I was quite interested in this album at first. I hadn't heard anything from k.d. lang before. The beginning wasn't thrilling, but I thought it would develop. As the album progressed, I was less and less interested. After the battery on my speaker gave up the ghost during the 5th track, I didn't feel like listening to the rest of the album. The best thing I can say about the album is that it wasn't annoying. But I didn't have to listen to it either. I later read a few other comments about the album. In one of them, the track Constant Craving was explicitly mentioned and praised. I then listened to this track specifically, and lo and behold, I already knew it. I probably heard it on the radio in the 90s. I liked it then and now. I won't be listening to the rest of the album, but this track will be on my playlist. 3/5

I am not into k.d. lang at all, but she does have a beautiful voice. This album was a bit of a surprise back then after hearing her earlier country-punk tunes from time to time. The production on this album is stunning. It was a bonus to learn that Ben Mink was involved. I remember him well as he took over for Nash the Slash in the band FM. Sorry, it's a Canadian thing, but the guy is a legend!

Her voice is good, I just don't always like the songs themselves.

A couple of solid tracks, but it doesn't really jive with my tastes. 3.3 stars

It's beautiful and lang's voice is undeniably flawless. Feels like old-fashioned lounge-music from long ago. Quite nice but other than Constant Craving, unmemorable.

It was a pleasant album to listen to but nothing grabbed me and made me want to listen to it again

I should start by saying that this kind of low key adult contemporary music with the occasional country twang is absolutely not my thing. Not that I hate it. It just would never occur to me to listen to it. But I'll do my best. The first thing to note is that k.d. lang is an excellent singer. The music and lyrics are…fine. I can recognize what they are going for, appreciate it, but still not really like it. But Constant Craving is a bop! 3⭐️

Beautiful. Very enjoyable. Much jazzier than anticipated.

I thought this album was alright. While its lyrics were decent, it kinda felt like mush to me. It was generally hard for me to actually here them. The music was alright, it did go with the lyrics, but at some parts it kinda didn't. overall, this is a middle of the road album in my opinion

seems like the song is about fighting with reality. also, it looks like he's physically and mentally numb due to losing somebody that he loves. i don't like it or hate it, but i understand why some people listen to this album, because it could be relatable to some. lastly, the song mostly talks about the bitterness of love and how difficult it can be at times.

Way better than the last one. Solid 2.5.

Great voice, what can ya say! Constant craving is a solid song

She has such a great voice

po pire

Her best...

Very Mellow and chill but all so similar

Hard to rate this. Not really my jam, and struggling to really place its genre. Country lounge music? I can appreciate the artistry, but it just doesn't click for me.

Qué bien canta!!! Qué maravilla!!! Ouside myself y la canción que le copiaron los Rollin merecen la pena y el resto está a un nivel muy alto.

Because of a glitch with this website I will never forget K D Lang

Country-tinged gentle pop

This was an ok listen. The vocals were good and the instrumentation was pleasant albeit a little on the simplistic side. I didn't mind listening to this but there wasn't really anything that would bring me back.

She has a nice voice. The style is just not my vibe and would likely not choose to listen to it again hence the three.

Eh, it just didn’t really trip my trigger. I just can’t put my finger on it but it wasn’t my style

Excellent album that I have not heard all the way through before, it's very chill with excellent vocals. I'm going to listen to this again.

She's got a great voice. This album was way less country than the last album of hers that I've got. This was more almost like a jazz lounge or something.

Really liked “Miss Chatelaine”. The rest was fine

Beautiful voice, rich production, but still, you know, unexceptional? Pleasant to have playing but didn't hold me rapt or show me why it was on this list. Favorite: Constant Craving

Smoooooooooth. And a little on the boring side overall. Not quite my thing, although Constant Craving is a great song.

meh again

Constant gravy.

Vähän vocal jazzmaista poppia. Oiskohan Season Of Hollow Soul tuttu. Hyvää poppia. Parhaat: Season of Hollow Souls, Outside Myself, Constant Craving

Fell asleep

Mostly harmless

She has an exceptional voice, but I've never heard of her before. Excellent production, easy listening big time. Season of Hollow Soul is very ABBA-esque. The lyrics are very self-centered and not really deep.

Haven't heard the album before. I enjoyed listening to this album. lang's voice is pretty amazing. Great pitch, tone, and range. The songs are a little hit and miss, but the album is enjoyable. "You just keep knocking And waking my heart"

I enjoyed this album, but there was nothing too memorable. I guess I just like k.d.'s style.

k.d. lang has a fantastic voice. The music though is ... boring to me. I can see maybe enjoying this album at a dark cozy restaurant.

Hadn't listened to much k.d. lang before, but I enjoyed this one. She's got a great voice, and both the lyrics and the melodies were nice. Some of them were a bit easy-listening... youtube autoplay paired her with Joni Mitchell, which I thought was appropriate. A nice solid three/3.5.

Nothing wrong with it...just not my thing.

It was fine. In terms of recency bias, it was probably about the same as NC so

Love gay people so much, this was fun. Not many tracks stood out but it was easy listening!

This album became a discussion piece over the dinner table regarding LBGTQIA+ rights and the Biblical History of Lilith. Modern kids don’t have any context for the monumental barriers LD Lang and Melissa Etheridge broke to make modern artists expand their market share by waving a Pride flag. They were the first two openly gay artists I knew, and both of them moved the narrative from their sex lives to their music. In truth, KD Lang had my respect even when I was homophobic (I was dumb) because she had the confidence to be unabashedly herself. Her voice is beautiful, but I always found her music to be a little too Chardonnay on the coach for my personal tastes. Save Me is a slow marinade while Still Thrives This Love is my standout. This is a 5/5 for someone and should be, but I don’t know how often I would look for this.

I enjoyed this album way more than I thought I would. It was way more jazzy than I was expecting. I was expecting a more country/sad vibe and was pleasantly surprised.

This album definitely sounds older than 1992, however I didn't mind the album although a lot of lyrics are repeated and it gets a little bit samey. Overall this album wasn't too bad so I will give it a 3/5.

Quintessentially 90s. Would probably not listen again, but would be interested in her more popular songs.

Adult contemporary cabaret sound. Beautiful voice and production but nothing really stuck with me.

Nice, chill album. Great to put on while you're working or reading. I wouldn't say it's a particularly spectacular example of adult contemporary, but it's pleasant music and that's what counts in the end. 3.5

pretty decent album. i enjoyed k.d.'s voice and the songs were pleasant enough. there was nothing here that really blew me away. the highlight here for me was 'constant craving,' which i thought was far and above the best song here. all in all, good not great.

Not bad really but not for me.

Ok ok this is some really chill shit. She has an absolutely gorgeous voice its so dam good. It's pretty simple but that doesn't hurt it too much for me. It's not outstanding but I did really enjoy it. Fav songs: - Save Me - Wash Me Clean - Season of Hollow Soul - Constant Craving

Nice voice and some of the cabaret-styled songs were interesting and refreshing, but overall kind of one-note for me.

Excellent country with a hint of cabaret for sure. Haunting voice and great themes. An enjoyable listen 3.5/5

This was an OK album, which I could see myself appreciating more if I was in a more melancholy mood. As it is, nothing really impressed me until "Constant Craving," but that's kinda... the last song on the album.

I feel conflicted about this album. One one hand, k.d. lang is a phenomenal vocalist. Her ability alone made thus album worth listening to. But I didn't really connect with the songs as much as I expected to. They were all fine, but nothing stood out other than the excellent vocals. Some decent songs, but nothing else to write home about. Top tracks: Save Me, Constant Craving

A very solid album with an amazing closer

-Her voice is really nice! I’ve heard of Constant Craving but never really listened to it until now -Aside from the vocals I really liked some of the percussion, it gave the album kind of an exotic/wistful feel -Favorites are Season Of Hollow Soul and Constant Craving

Constant Craving is a banger. 3.5

Pretty smooth, easy, mellow listening.

A very o.k. album. She has a nice voice and there were some interesting musical concepts. 3/5.

Nice album, I was surprised tbh

Pretty nice.

Roy Orbison's protege be sounding like Roy Orbison's soft-hearted offshoot. In a good way.

good album, pleasantly surprised with this one actually, had no expectations coming in

i need some love fr

Another one I probably had some preconceived notions about, but tried to approach it objectively. First off, k.d. lang has a beautiful voice, sort of sultry, like a 1950s crooner. Secondly, she is a strong songwriter. Save Me, The Mind of Love, and the hit Constant Craving were all highlights. The first 6-7 songs were all really good, and then it tailed off before finishing with Constant Craving, sort of odd sequencing. Probably need to be in the right mood for this sort of cabaret style album, but walking to work on a rainy humid summer morning was spot on. I started at a 2 on this, but got close to a 4.

Really well done but I just didn’t find it interesting in any way

I feel nothing when I listen to this and I’m okay with that

Nothing wrong with this record but there is nothing really outstanding either. Pleasant voice. All very mellow. Nothing outside the box here.

Ehh.. not really my thing. It’s ok, has a few moments.

Hey voice is beautiful, and I can appreciate it but this isn’t my genre of music. But again, her voice is incredible.

5.5/10

didnt expect the jazzy sound

Much more traditional album than I would have expected. Constant Craving is still a bop.

Liked it, although prefer her a little more country. Constant Craving is a great song!

Between this and Norah Jones it’s been an Adult Contemporary radio kinda week. It’s alright. Not as ear catching as I’d hoped. Though I have had Constant Craving in my head all day now. Otherwise nothing stood out to me. Maybe it’s someone else’s bag but it’s not mine.

Ingénue is the second solo album by Canadian singer k.d. lang. This is her most successful pop album with flashes of country, folk, and jazz music. It has been certified platinum in New Zealand and the UK, and double platinum in Australia, Canada, and the US. This is a wonderful solo album of folksy pop that will entertain most mainstream listeners.

it’s ight it’s ight

Solid album with a few really good tracks. Probably a 3.5 for me but just on the three side.

Solid album. Not punchy enough to get above a four. But what’s here is strong.

Algunas buenas canciones, sin duda.

It’s nice. 3.5

Ok for what it is.

I liked this, a couple of the songs are great but it also did little to excel. Favourite track: So It Shall Be.

A lovely album about love

The music almost sounds like a pre programmed backing track. Her voice is way more interesting than the instrumentals. The whole thing is really melancholic. Which I was not in the mood for. At the end of the day, I'm not sure this is a must listen, but there is a time and a place.

I wouldn’t say there’s anything that absolutely blew my mind with this one, but I did enjoy it. Super low-key vibes would make it great for some background music, which is essentially what it became during my afternoon listening to it. Constant Craving will always be a jam. Good but not great, and I’ll add a couple more k.d. lang songs to my library.

What a beautiful voice! The mix of instruments throughout the album is brilliant. I could easily see how this could be someone's favorite artist. That being said, I'd be lying if I said I was going to listen to more of k.d. lang. She's a beautiful musician. Just not for me

Thirst half of this album did not leave a good impression on me, but that second half... goddamn! Adult contemporary still isn't my thing, but this album's second half might convert me one of these days. Overall, the album is perfectly decent, would be higher if that first half was better. Best Song: Constant Craving Worst Song: Wash Me Clean Underrated Gem: Still Thrives This Love Album Score: 6/10

Beautiful and boring

Great slow mood songs. Not my normal listen but if you need to match your mood thus is a solid choice.

Great voice

This was pleasant and easy to listen to. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could.

Only knew of the artist through the collaborations so this was something new. And something of a surprise. An enjoyable collection of songs, well crafted with some catchy.

Pretty good but not my thing personally, I prefer Mazzy Star.

More enjoyable than I expected

I didn't enjoy the start of this but some really great tracks on the back end. Difficult to rate because of this. Feeling a strong 2 to light 3.

Some interesting sounds, but not really my thing. Still too much country influence

Wow she has an amazing voice, every song was beautiful to listen too
