Reviews (page 8 of 13)

I'm surprised I didn't like the overall album more.

Fun, quick listen. The singles are great.

Fun debut album!

I Got the Beat and especially Our Lips Are Sealed are so, so good. The rest of the album is good enough, but just didn’t grab me like those two tracks.

Solid, easy, upbeat listening, and I like Belinda.

Um… no idea? That surprises me. Let’s see… Oh, I could have died without hearing this. But then I found out my husband did a talent show in junior high where he and his friends did something with We Got the Beat. He got to “play” the drummer. That’s worth 3 stars right there. And I gave ABBA 3 stars, so it’s only fair.

Muy de su época

Post-punk 80’s pop that was a surprisingly good listen - better than I expected. Could probably listen to more of their catalog.

Not something I would have chosen to listen to but I enjoyed it. Good new wave/pop rock

Good pop-rock album. Clearly worth a listen. Energetic, enjoyable. I particularly liked "Automatic" (probably my favourite), "Our Lips are Sealed", "This Town", "We Got the Beat", or "Fading Fast". It's in the range between 3 and 4 stars.

Good, like it

Uuuh 3-4

Enjoyable punky new wave. Songwriting is tight but suffers from a rather thin production; I can hear the bass guitar fine and that kick drum is definitely there, but the version i'm listening to has like no low end in it's mix. "We Got the Beat" is a classic single, and I've used it as guitar and bass practice many times over. 7.5/10.

Kind of samey but it's a good sound so I don't mind all that much. We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed are the singles, I assume, and they're definitely the most focused tracks on the album.

No tengo mucho que decir. Me gustaron casi todas las canciones. Aunque no es mi generación Disney, no puedo evitar pensar en la versión de las hermanas Duff con Our Lips Are Sealed.

Lindo descubrimiento.

Keeps the beat and keeps it short and sweet

no me gustó

It was what I was expecting but also better than I was expecting. The album builds momentum, it was a fun weekend listen.

I liked it but it want necessarily my vibe but overall good

Don’t know if this is a UK vs US thing, but the Go Gos just never really caught on over here. I know Our Lips Are Sealed, but it’s the Fun Boy Three version that I heard first and for me it’s way better than the Go Gos shiny pop version. The rest of the album just washed over me. Bit samey tbh. Not bad, but not entirely sure what all the fuss is about. 3.

Fun pop album

Decent listen.

Great album

i really enjoyed a lot from this. vibes are immaculate i gave it a 75/100 its just missing out on 4 stars

Pretty catchy album, though some of the songs felt like they ran for too long, even for a shorter runtime. Definitely very poppy but there’s some edge to it which I enjoyed. Our Lips are Sealed and We Got the Beat are classics so those were great listening to.

It's fun, catchy and simple. Would I go out of my way to listen to it? Probably not, but it's not bad music. 2.5/5 Might listen again

Nothing offensive to my musical senses, a little pop, a little punk, a little experimentation. Okay

Not bad, everyone loves we got the beat

I really liked the album to start. A fun, fresh sound. I’m sure at the time it was even more unique. But as the album went on I found myself getting a little weary of the sound. A lot of the songs have a similar tempo, production style, and sound. Still think it’s pretty good, and deserves somewhere between 3 and 4.

Not bad, Not great. Upbeat and somewhat catchy. 2.5/5

Really thin production, detracts from the songs quite a bit. Still a few decent pop songs

Very engaging, fun album!

Not “important” because people say it is, but because it still works immediately. Artistically, very strong within its lane. Historically, bigger than people sometimes admit.

Playful

Klasika

soo good

Finally a girly band on this list. The GoGos are really fun and were a great start to my Saturday. Upbeat and breezy and starts with a straight up banger.

Starts out very energetic, peaks at we got the beat, but after that feels like it is losing the energy. In the end it is still enjoyable but feels a bit tired. Still a very much enjoyable record.

yuuuuusssss

When Belinda Carlisle (and indeed Jane Wieldin) had late 80s mainstream success I was unaware of their status as US new wave stars in the Go Gos. The success of this album was almost entirely stateside though the Fun Boy three's hit single 'Our lips are sealed' (about Terry Hall's alleged affair with Jane Wiedlin) was by far the key track from this debut album. To my ears it's an all female self contained unit trying their best to emulate Blondie. An important act, usurped by the Bangles five years later but their solo members were to easily outstrip their initial influential work.

This album was in a similar style to several others we've heard so far, but this might be one example of a band that improved on the style of music produced from bands like the Ramones. I like the singer because she sings in tune, and I liked the vocal harmonies as well. The album had a unique amount of harmonic interest given the style, and there was a nice variety of chord progressions, which reminded me of Alvvays.

Another one where I'll be curious to hear your thoughts. Goes back to my youth, of course. I definitely liked (and still like) some of their songs. On this album, of 11 songs, I'd say I like maybe 4? The other 7 (or so) weren't terrible, but were kind of forgettable, and also, I think, sound a bit dated. Not in a terribly bad way, but enough that it fails the 'would I like to hear it again some time soon?' test. Speaking of which, I only listened to this album once (though I've heard it before); the 4 that I liked are the 2 hits, "Our Lips are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," plus "This Town" and "How Much More." But, of the 4, the clear standout (to me) is "Our Lips are Sealed," which (not coincidentally - that it's the standout, I mean) was co-written by the great, and undersung 80s hero, Terry Hall, who was a leader of The Specials, and later Fun Boy Three, and The Colourfield (all worth checking out - especially The Specials -- and I hope he/they show/s up in the 1001 somewhere). Oh, yeah, I still need to rate this one. Another 3 stars for me, I guess. But those 4 songs are carrying most of the weight. (Might've been tempted to say 2.5, but 2 definitely feels a bit too harsh, for me.)

such a relief to hear female vocals I like the use of minor chords, especially on the chorus of "Tonite" "We Got The Beat" is ingrained in my memory for some reason. I probably heard it in a movie or TV show decent overall

Our Lips Are Sealed and We Got the Beat are iconic. Very fun and upbeat album.

Songs added to my Liked songs: This Town Fading Fast Automatic You Can't Walk In Your Sleep Thought the second half of the album was stronger than the first x

Fun, but a little too 80’s

- short and sweet - I liked this on my first listen a while ago and a little less this time, but still fun - I need to be in a specific mood to want to listen all the way through

American New Wave is so fun and vibrant and punky, why were the Brits incapable of this? Highlights: "Our Lips are Sealed", "How Much More", "We Got the Beat", "Can't Stop the World"

A striking, energetic and just plain fun debut. Probably too successful for its own good, considering how the desire for more hits ultimately curtailed the longevity of the band.

Our Lips Are Sealed is, of course, a great song. The rest of the album is decent enough.

Enjoyed this, not too knowledgeable about The Go-Go's but this was fun

Suprisingly good and modern-sounding power pop from an era I usually detest. I was pretty sure I was gonna hate it, but I enjoyed it more than expected and ended up playing it twice. The "punk" and "new wave" influences are very discrete (kind of an afterthought, really), it's more radio pop than anything else, but the band is pretty efficient. The hooks are great ("Lust to Love" and "Automatic" slap hard), the energy is real, and the balance between cheerful and bleak hits the right spot for me. It didn't blow my mind, it doesn't really have much depth, but it was a nice way to start the day. Go girls ! 6/10

Didn’t like it at first: too simple, kind of poorly produced. But then I threw it on during a night with people, and it just clicked differently. Way more bouncy, good energy, actually works in that setting. I’d come back to it without a problem.

I think the Go-Go's are very underrated. Before streaming made every song instantly available, I made a four-CD collection of '80s pop. I excluded the giants (Prince, Michael, and Madonna). I later noticed that the only artist on all four discs was the Go-Go's. Few '80s pop acts had more than two or three hits, tops. Given the above, I was tempted to give this album four stars, but the deep cuts don't do much. They're not bad, but they're far from four-star material, and the two hits can't elevate the album as a whole to four stars.

This was much better than I expected. I must admit I judged it a little early on with the 80s arty-punky-women sound. But it was actually a lot of fun. Didn't give it a very focused listen so I'll try it again some day

3 Bob Dylan albums before I got a female artist lol. Fun and some good lyrics but not my style. :)

I fancy this title and the cover, hope I’ll like it. Ladies were doing great, but the songs were a bit outdated.

Fine but not my fave

Our lips are sealed- really good song How much more- kind of boring, maybe not my vibe Tonite- very similar vibe still not digging it Lust to love- good beginning, good overall song Won’t lie whole album kind of sounds the same, not bad but it doesn’t feel like there’s anything different

A surprisingly fun album with good beats and vibes, even if that's all it provides.

This was an interesting and surprising album. The beat is great and it was a really fun album to listen to, and you can tell the girls are punkier than many "punk girls", however the new wave way of singing did disappoint me a bit. I understand it is the fashion at the time, but it gor tiring by the end of the album. As I had never heard about the band before, but heard about Belinda, this was weird. It was a good album overall, but does this belong to the list? 3/5

not really entirely my thing but objectively good

A good soundtrack for the summertime

idk it's fine

yeah this is fine.

Some good upbeat songs on the album.

It might not have been THE beat but they got A beat

Not bad. Easy listening

Pretty fun album all around, not my cup of tea but an upbeat, fun album. Very much an 80s album

First time listening to Go-Gos album and was impressed. Of course the hits are well known but in general I love the guitar. Has a bit of surfiness to it and the rhythm section is tight. This might anger some diehard fans but while they are good singers, it kind of sounded samey to me after a while.

Couple of classics, but overall sounds like a first album from a band with potential, but who haven't worked it out yet.

Very nostalgic for me. Reminds me of my dad. He loves the Go-Go’s

Liked a but

That's the go-gos alright. As a huge fan of modern girly-pop, I don't know why I don't typically feel this group

It's an OK album of pop songs. Not particularly thrilling, but apparently important in "new wave".

Over all, this album is a lot of 80s pop and a lot of 80s rock mixed into a girl group. Pretty solid with fun, careless, and pretty lyrics in each song. Not too bad, but ended up a little bit repetitive by the end, especially by the last track, “Can’t Stop the World.” The cover very much fits the album, and is a really fun album to listen to. The guitars are heavily emphasized along with the vocals. Pretty good, but not my favorite! Still, not the worst at all! Best tracks: Tonite, We Got the Beat, and Our Lips Are Sealed. Some diversity in the songs, but can get into a similar rhythmic pattern. Not bad! 3.5/5

Pretty fun to start, but doesn't have enough variety for the whole album to really keep that excitement

It's a fine pop album. Styled on the heels of Fleetwood Nicks, a female lead with sharp bass lines is the name of the game. The Go Go's do it fairly well, with inoffensive vocals and musicals. It may have been groundbreaking in the day, but it's not super revolutionary in retrospect. It would be a fun album to have a carefree dance to. Not something I would seek out on the reg, but I would absolutely pull this album out for a lively party.

I'm a man. I love women. I strongly believe that if they were in charge we'd be so much better off. I can't say this album is objectively great. Very enjoyable mix of punk tinged pop and you can feel the empowered vibes. We Got the Beat is an all time classic but the rest of the album (which I first heard at maybe 8 years old) was very listenable but no real standouts. I mistakenly believed that Susanna Hoffs was part of this lineup. I always found her impossibly mesmerizing so was a little disappointed that I got my 80s girl band wires crossed. 3.9

My core memory of the go-go’s was riding around on scooters during a Miami Beach sunset and vibing to their music in my AirPods. This is a fun surf pop rock album. Is a lot of the popular stuff super redundant? Yes. But there’s some slappers too. The deep cuts are the highlight for me. Lust to Love and Automatic have a darker, more standard rock edge to them, and I really enjoy that blended with their style. Also shout out to the 1001 gods for finally giving me music that doesn’t make my ears bleed. Fav songs: Lust to Love, Automatic

I heard this record seriously like 5 times and I think it is a perfect 7/10. It has the perfect balance of iconography and also has a crazy good surf vibe. I see where alot of old school surf rock got its influences. Surf has never truly been an amazing genre in my eyes it always comes back to easy listening but I cant hate this at all and I am glad I did explore it.

It was good. i will listen to it again, maybe a different mood.

This was a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed my listen, the sort of pop music that is engaging and interesting. I was close to giving this 4 stars but I don’t really remember many of the tracks specifically so maybe one I can revisit, which I’d look forward to.

Very good album. Lively jangly pop presaged a lot of 1980s sound. I hear traces of marr, it sounds as if it was influential. A 3/4 leaning on a 3

Fun listen

para ponerlo de fondo, ruido blanco

I like this

Silly cunts

Bright, bouncy grooves built from chiming guitars, buoyant bass lines, brisk drumming, and sunny, straightforward vocals move this Power Pop album like a fun night out that doesn’t overstay its welcome—pleasant, catchy entertainment that works perfectly for one evening without demanding deeper commitment.

Very good.

I can see why these gals were all the rage. The new wave parts were... Meh, but the rock leaning parts peaked my interest a bit. Highlights were "you can't walk in your sleep" and automatic.

Pretty typical 80s girl pop-rock. 5/10

Not bad

Very 80s? It was fine. Stand-outs: - Our Lips Are Sealed - Lust To Love - This Town

Not really my style. I find the vocals a bit grating and certain songs repeat themselves a bit too much.

Our Lips are Sealed How Much More Lust to Love Fading Fast You Can’t Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can’t Sleep)

Our Lips Are Sealed Tonite Lust to Love This Town

Amazing album! I liked their style a lot, I added all the songs to my playlist. :D

Enjoyable!

I liked can't stop the world and our lips are sealed.

Enjoyable, energetic album. The second half is mostly forgettable, but there’s still a fair bit of catchy songs here. It doesn’t sound as echo-y as a pot of new wave, which I like, but there’s still some of it present (minor nitpick). Not that special, but still a fun album. 7/10

Fun and poppy! Many songs I recognize.

INCREDIBLY eighties. the eighties vocals (understanding over time why my mom always sings the way she does; where that diction comes from)… the sorta repetitive bass, miscellaneous harmonies. a little bit TV theme song. the light, sort of tinny electric guitar. I was neutral / positive towards this album, given my enjoyment of 80s music in general I like the genre - but nothing particularly gripped me about it. great to listen to a band of all women

Bouncy pop

Fun but gets tired quickly

Pretty fun! I grooved with the Go-Gos

very fun, a couple just alright songs but overall very fun

Classic 80s album by the Go-Go’s. Nothing particularly new or innovative but it doesn’t have to be. It’s just a fun album, a tad short but still nice. The hits are for sure the highlight of the album but there’s a few other gems. A nice listen!

A toe-tapper.

Pretty ok like decent

Another one that I enjoyed more than I had expected. Good stuff here.

I liked it. Fun sound. Some pretty funny lyrics (you can’t sleep walk if you don’t sleep). Kind of prog rock.

The best album with near no playlist saves.

Nice enough power pop. Don’t think I’d listen again though.

Fun album! 80’s-tastic!

Helt greit.

Good 80s New Wave Punk.

Very fun and easy to listen to !

I like this post punk sound, always have, the problem for me is although it’s “cool” when I listen to this today it’s a little too jangly guitar and palatable, it just makes me want Amyl and the Sniffers instead. But I think I would have had a totally different reaction in 1981. Context is everything. Don’t dislike it. Doesn’t set my world on fire either. Have always loved this vocal style though, whatever it may be called.

got some bops!

Meh - generic post-punk, pop, eighties girl band. Inoffensive for my 30 minute drive to work but not worth remembering for the future.

nice enough

Pretty sad and angry sounding minor chord jams. Fun with a tear in your eye.

Kinda liked this despite myself

A fun album where the deep cuts are better than the singles. Falls off a little at the end but not enough to drag the experience down too much. 3.5

Nimestä tuli mieleen KooKoo Go Go Girls, Essifrederika ja Noorakaroliina, ihan mahtava assosiaatio.

Nice little collection of 3 minute pop songs

Very fun album How Much More Tonite Lust to Love We Got the Beat (only song I was familiar with going in) You Can't Walk in Your Sleep Poppy and fun....liked the vibe but not sure if I was fully in the headspace to appreciate today....will likely rate 3 but know it is a higher 3!

top 3 - Our Lips Are Sealed, How Much More, Automatic.

not unpleasant, also not not unpleasant

Musically significant with a decent but repetitive sound.

This album is another surprise. It’s the debut from the punk-pop Go-Gos. They had three hits that I can recall, and two of them are from this album. You don’t hear them much these days, but they were played a lot back in their day. The rest of the tracks are fine but nothing super.

Really fun pop album, I enjoyed

Classic songs that are great in context. Very consistent sound on this.

I had fun listening to this album. Not much more to say. I added “We’ve Got the Beat” to my playlist

Not bad, just very very generic

I'll likely leave a shorter review as I didn't listen to this as much as I would usually an album. It was definitely a fun album, lots of upbeat songs though perhaps a little samey. Nice to see an all girl group, I feel they're a little underrepresented especially in lists like these although I'm not sure this is the best example of what they can do. I have few qualms with the album overall, it was okay to listen to, just not hugely exciting. 66/100

Quite a good one. didn't find it particularly exciting, but nice to see from an all girl band.

Amazing album not what I’m used to though

Fun girl pop from the 80s! We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed slap

I gave this a few listens. Pretty cool punky-Blondie-newwavey stuff. Not massively my thing, but it was cool and sounds great for 1981. Favourite tracks: Our Lips Are Sealed, Tonite, Lust To Love.

Very 3 stars tbh. Not bad but i feel like it's mostly just well made pop-rock songs, but kinda repetetive, and the singing is a bit flat and uninteresting.

Surprising find. Good song writing all the way though. Great sound and instrumentation. Our lips are sealed and how much more are stand outs.

Fun listen but not many standout tracks outside of the hits.

Not bad

Solid 80's rock. Nothing too crazy musically but the fact it's all female is pretty cool.

such a nostalgic album with nostalgic songs.

Fun and 80s. How many more of these can we take

I was going to make a Jimmy Neutron comment but then one of the top reviews beat me to it. Nothing new under the sun and all that.

Pretty good album, need to listen to more of them.

Would give it 3.5 but that's not an option! Really liked some, others were a bit boring and didn't do it for me

Kinda like Blondie but not Blondie

Such a fun listen start to finish. The singles are the standouts but fun and historically important album.

Solid, unremarkable but fine.

It's alright. Pretty catchy pop 80s music vibes and some good ones with interesting rifts throughout.

Fun, but got tired of the same harmonies.

You Can’t Walk in You Sleep” conseguiu conquistar a minha atenção.

It's fine. Was very familiar with it already. Middle of the road 80s pop.

Lowkey kinda dug it, lust to love & can’t sleep walk if your not alseep. Her voice is just kinda a lot

Never listened to this but it's mostly up my alley. Solid record throughout with the singles Our Lips Are Sealed and We Got the Beat being obvious standouts. First time feeling the obvious connection between We Got the Beat and Sleater Kinney's early records.

A quick, fun early 80s pop album. Knew the two hits and enjoyed them on this listen through, other songs felt in line with the poppy sound. Favorite song: Our Lips are Sealed Ideal listening situation: shower before work, start day off happy Would I Relisten: maybe but won’t seek out

amazing that they wanted to make something that sounded like the sex pistols and ended up making an album that sounded 1000000x better than anything they could have come up with

omg finally a fully blown GIRL BAND!!!!! and from the 80s too how cute! i belong in the 80s dancing like i'm part of the breakfast club, thank you! with that being said it was still just cute! better than most of the music on here LMAO

Enjoyable but samey

Refreshing

I enjoyed this a lot lol

Favourite track, skidmarks on my heart, which is the first time I’ve heard of that line.

Probably a 3. Solid pop.

This was a bit grating to me, but I think that's just production. I could see some of the good things in the songs still.

fun album

No private session used for Spotify. I heard a fair number of these songs on constant rotation growing up, later I dated a girl who had this CD, so this was a nice way to reminisce. This album is still fun.

I love the 80s and this is just an essential band for the era. I'm not saying it's great, but it's quintessential and really fit the spirit of the era.

Quite nice

Loved this fun power pop-y album when it came out and it’s a lot of fun to hear some of the brilliance it had again. It has to be remembered that no other ‘girl group’ had hit the top of the charts writing and performing on their own steam like this before. Way to go GoGo’s!

This makes me miss VH1

fun, would listen again

Fun 80s pop, which is big for me to say

Pop-punk-new wave is still a thing? Enjoyed the album, all the songs sounded the same though.

It's fun. I mean, I can't really get that into it but it's fine. Crazy thing is Belinda Carlisle once brielfy being the drummer for The Germs.

01) Our Lips Are Sealed - 6,5 02) How Much More - 6,5 03) Tonite - 7,0 04) Lust to Love - 7,0 05) This Town - 6,5 06) We Got the Beat - 7,0 07) Fading Fast - 6,5 08) Automatic - 7,0 09) You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep) - 6,0 10) Skidmarks on My Heart - 6,0 11) Can't Stop the World - 6,0 TOTAL: 6,55 (66/100) Current ranking: 529/767

So fun!

solid album, would listen again

Pure 80s bliss. Wonderful pallet cleanser after a weekend of crap choices.

It's the 80s and its The Go-Go's

Słuchałam napewno czegoś podobnego

Very upbeat and fun

This isn't as superficial as I thought.

Not generally a fan of new-wave, let’s see if this hits any different. Not initially impacted or blown away. Feels kinda standard 4/4 pop. Getting a run of pretty inoffensive, mid, albums and this is maybe another. Maybe missing the significance of its time and impact but just kinda meh. ‘Lust to Love’ maybe slightly more engaging. Didn’t even recognise ‘We Got the Beat’ which I was expecting might be a nice surprise. All pretty much the same song and fairly average. Pretty clear, mid 3*

not really that for me, but for the time i'd imagine it was probably pretty awesome. didn't dislike it in the slightest but didn't find myself exactly interested. fading fast went pretty hard though

Go-gorgeous rock style

An album salvaged by one of the best pop songs ever written

Nice enough.

Actually really solid for a pop album, vocals feel somewhat shallow to me though.

Fun album

An unexpected pleasure.

I used to like this album more, but now I find it a bit too pop-y for me. This Town is nice

Pretty standard femme New Wave. It's more punk-y than a lot of their contemporaries. The name does ring a few bells, so it's probably not a completely random inclusion. Key tracks: Our Lips Are Sealed

Molto bene.

classic pop album. Belinda Carlisle has a good voice. Easy listen

Not my style, but a fun album.

It’s ok

Uneventful. Sounds a bit like voice of the beehive but with less hooks.

I’m old enough to remember when The GoGo’s were all over MTV. Had only ever heard the hits, but I actually liked this. Not sure if I liked it enough to put it in rotation. But I liked it.

I mean it is not bad, but not great either. 5/10

It’s fun, but not something so amazing that I would recommend it

Siouxsie and the Banshees if they were basic

Some bops. You can't sleepwalk if you can't sleep is a vibe. 3

If I was 11 years old in 1981 I probably would have thought this was fire First track is honestly good to this day

Pleasant

I was surprised by this one, the energy is way more punk than I thought it would be. These songs rip, and even "We Got The Beat" fits right in perfectly. The drumming is a highlight throughout, especially on "Can't Stop The World." Very good album.

Album No. 0064 on my list. Interesting listen. I’ve known the Go-Go’s before but didn’t know most of the songs. Generally, “Beauty and the Beat” is a solid album. I can definitely see why it is on this list. Very new-wavy, very progressive for its time. And also an all-female band which I think was quite rare for the time. My favorites were “Our Lips are Sealed”, “Lust to Love”, and “We got the Beat.” That being said, there is a lot of consistency between the songs, but that also means that for me, there were few real highlights. 3/5 stars.

Day 126 First listen- This album is filled with jams! Such a vibrant album! (3.5/5)

They remind me of the Cardigans but more boring. I guess that’s just the 80’s. I see how important they are to the evolution of music but I would never listen to them on my own. Probably would be fun live so you could hear more of the punk

A little bubblegummy, but it holds up after many years. Really a fun listen.

A lot of songs I knew on this album. It was decent

Cheerful pop, earworm music.

Starting off with a banger. It’s a well-constructed pop song for sure, fun to listen to, old-school pop songwriting and chord changes. Next two tracks aren’t really doing much for me. Feeling very ‘filler track’ after a strong lead single. The vocal delivery is a little funny to me. It’s something common among 80s stuff, I’m not sure how to describe it. The hits that I already knew were the obvious stand outs. It’s a fun pop record, love the 80s energy. I enjoyed the listen, but probably only coming back for the hits.

super fun. 3.5

I’m going to try to talk about the music. I’m sorry for all the mean things I said below. I like this. I would have played it on the radio. Reminded me of the feelies for some reason.

I liked the bass lines especially in the front half of the album. The second half was not as strong, started to get a bit too repetitive.

Arguably the album that put Belinda Carlisle on the map.

Another day another 3/5 Lust For Love is a banger though - some really fun catchy songs on the album, I really like the energy on some of these tracks. And I really like the 80s pop / punk fusion. Some of the songs sound the same though and the album doesn’t really flow super well imo

Be me, be 12 playing rock band with noble chun, we got the beat comes on, be pumped. Good for nostalgia, kinda fun, but not something im gonna seek out. THRAY$!

Easy to sense the punk influences. I was never a big Go-Gos fan.

Went-Went

girls just wanna have rock

Cool album

“Our Lips Are Sealed” is a standout. I’m into the rest. All new to me!

Fun simple beats and riffs. You can tell this album influenced a lot of other artists in its era. Not necessarily something I would put on repeat though.

Pretty good 80's vibe album. Captures the more upbeat 80's pop style, but with some colorful tonality. Good for casual background listening.

Was torn between a 2 or a 3, but ultimately had to go go with a 3 because it reminded me of grade school.

Fun, poppy, a good time. Solid middle of the road enjoyable listen.

Not bad. They had one jam that was a song I knew – We Got The Beat.

I can hear heavy pop elements mixed with some punk influences. The simplicity of a lot of the guitar work (not in a negative way) reminds me of punk. The bass work is great and that stood out to me. There are a few interesting riffs and even a time signature shift in "This Town". Upbeat pop/punk elements all through. At times I felt the album didn't switch things up too much but was a relatively enjoyable listen.

Singles group. Decent album but it's about their hits and videos.

Ah yes, the skidmarks on my heart

I knew the two hits from this platter, but the rest was not the puerile, pop pablum I was expecting. What can I say - They got the beat!

Poppy and fun.

Opening track an obvious highlight, enjoyed this album.

This one is a hard album to rate. On one hand the songs are upbeat and catchy with fantastic vocals, on the other hand every song sounds the same and it overall gives the impression of rock/pop/stompclap amalgamation.

Decent. Hadn't listened to this album before but I knew the big hits. Its ok, even good. Its a good introduction to The Go-Go's.

Pleasant happy bouncy pub rock. Not bad at all, but nowhere near brilliant. Not a number 1 album by any means. Must have been a real bad year for American music.

I love this album and I am pretty sure I have never listened to it start-to-finish before today. My sister had the Vacation album on cassette when we were growing up. The Go-Gos were so fun. Belinda's delivery in "Lust to Love" reminds me strongly of Carrie Brownstein's singing in Sleater-Kinney. Used to love singing "We Got the Beat" with my daughter on Rock Band 2. I would give this 3.5 stars if I could. Or 3.9.

This was a fun sounding album, but I didn't think it was anything spectacular.

Não é para mim. Acho meio repetitivo, meio morno, meio. Nada impressionante.

I haven’t heard this before I do like it a lot I wouldn’t listen to it on a regular but it’s a nice album

Good album

The Good good’s

This album is pure early 80s pop rock, all bright guitars, punchy rhythms, and singalong hooks. It’s got a fun, breezy energy that makes it an easy listen from the first track to the last. The production is clean and punchy, giving everything that shiny, upbeat sound that defined the era. It might not be groundbreaking, but it’s got charm. Songs like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat” are obvious standouts, brimming with infectious hooks that make them hard to forget. The rest of the album doesn’t always hit quite the same high, sometimes blending together in a blur of similarly sunny melodies. Still, even the less memorable tracks carry that same feel-good energy. Beauty and the Beat isn’t a deep or complicated record, but that’s not really the point. It captures a particular moment in pop with a kind of effortless confidence, and while it might not demand repeat listens, it’s hard not to enjoy while it’s on.

A nice collection of pop-rock- fun to listen to, but somewhat shallow. Overall- good album

very 80s kinda alternative pop? not really my fav but exactly what you would expect of it. definitely some all time bangers though 5/10

our lips are sealed is a banger, love the bass

A consistent set of jolly songs ideal for a party. Nothing groundbreaking.

A couple hits a bunch if meh

Its fine, not anything great but you can feel the influence it had on the genre.

Ei huono! Raikas post-pop/rock 3/5

Top 40 takes over but I'm not sure I have to hear it before I die. You can hear some punk roots, but that sound is mostly hidden and the more it peeks out the more I like them. Picky, but I keep asking myself "the Go-Go's what? their clothes? their attitude? their grammar?" The surf is cool, would like even more. Points for carving out all-female success.

Fun, light and boppy! Otherwise unmemorable.

This was all right. It's fun. The hits are cool. I have fond memories of hearing and loving We Got the Beat back when I was 10. but the rest didn't do much for me.

Pleasant pop rock. Fun but unmemorable.

Heard it before. Tbh I completely forgot what a fun album it is! Nothing too crazy but also a nice listen 3/5

Iconic sound, still has that ear catching quality to it. A fun California blend of surf and punk, delivered by an all female lineup. What's not to like?

kind of vibe with this. but didn't save a lot of songs on the first couple go-go arounds, and it's got some filler.

Loved how upbeat it was! Did think a lot of the songs sounded the same but it was very much a vibe! 7/10

I liked it. It sounded good. But it's definitely something I wouldn't rate 4. Maybe 3.5 would be right.

Nice but generic pop album

Classic Songs and a Fun Listen

Had never heard of The Go-Go's or this album before, but I had a good time with this. So much so that I didn't realise the album was done and just ended up listening to more of their songs on autoplay.
