Solid pop album Favourite song -Skidmarks On My Heart

I can enjoy the Go-Gos in spurts, but I've never attempted an entire album. It was a bit of a slog after three or four songs. Pop records be like that, I guess.

I’m not going to say this is punk AF, but it was more punk than I remembered. I feel like it got marketed to me as pop, but it’s pop punk with 80s stylings.

Fun, and better than I thought.

it was ok, nothing special

This album has come to party! 3/ 5

I enjoyed this, cheerful easy listening pop.

This album was good. I was surprised how super tight the band sounded especially the drums and the vocals. Interesting to hear younger people in the early 80s with sort of a teenybopper sound but also incredibly tight sounding songs. Although I’m writing it at three I would call it a heavy three maybe 3.5..

Better than Coldplay

Je ne connaissais pas, à part « we got the beat » qui me parle. Vraiment chouette ! C’est énergique !

Very pleasant to listen to.

It does not get much more 80s than this. Perfectly fine listening, but nothing to really get into. 3/5

I wasn’t familiar with the Go-Go’s before this album. I really enjoyed the blend of 70s punk and pop and could hear influences of both. Added to Library: Our Lips Are Sealed This Town Fading Fast

Fun album. Would pair well with pre mixed drinks and fewer responsibilities

It’s alright, some good moments, nothing more.

I can really hear their influence in a band like Sleater-Kinney. 3-3.5

# 565 : Beaty And The Beat Beauty and the Beat – Fun, Catchy, and Still Not Essential This one earns a rare nod of approval—Beauty and the Beat is a fun, classic pop-rock album that goes down easy. From the opening track “Our Lips Are Sealed,” it’s clear the Go-Go’s knew how to craft a solid tune. The songs have aged surprisingly well, and the whole thing is better than the hit singles might suggest. But let’s not get carried away. It’s still a bit monochromatic in that very 80s way—catchy, but not exactly deep. A few hours later, you’ll struggle to remember a single track. It’s technically not bad, but also not something you must hear before you die. Verdict: Three stars for being better than average. File under “pleasant pop detours.” # 400 in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of all time list. If you have to listen to this, the first two tracks take the cake. Listened: 10/09/2025

There are actual songs on here. Doesn’t overstay its welcome at 35 minutes. 72% (24/33)

3.5 stars. Really enjoyable new-wave pop. "Our Lips are Sealed" is a classic and sounds as fresh today as it did over 40 years ago. "This Town" starts out sounding like a Joy Division song, which isn't surprising seeing how many bands they influenced.

Прикольно, не более того

me gustaron algunos temas y otros para nada, pero le daría otra escucha

It was more fun than I had anticipated really. I liked it pretty much.

Tenro e delicado como bolhas de sabão. Ao mesmo tempo nada muito impressionante e fica repetitivo bem rápido. Daqueles que funcionam melhor se você escutar as músicas individualmente. 6.0/10

Started off well but got a bit samey

such cute pop and 80s ish vibes listened while getting ready for a date:)

Upbeat catchy

War ganz stimmig, habe aber nicht so richtig viel aktiv mitbekommen bzw es ist nicht so richtig etwas hängen geblieben. Vielleicht keine glatte 3, aber kurz davor.

Decent choice

Love a catchy pop song and 80s nostalgia.

Was bopping along

Enjoyable - maybe not a revisit for me, but “Automatic” was a neat standout.

Pa sladak album, ne znam točno zašto ali baš mi je sjeo ovako na ponedjeljak ujutro. Ima tu par super stvari! 3/5, 6/10

This was good fun. Nothing crazy here but hard to dislike

After the first two songs took me to pop music nirvana the rest of the album was just fine.

Fun album filled to the brim with bops. Catchy punk vibes, with good emotional range

The Bee Movie song? In this economy?

scale: 1 - instaskip, 2-meh can be skipped/reaches point to skip, 3 -nothing wrong/easy listen/not seeking out, 4 - would listen to again, 5 - must listen Our lips are sealed- 5 and don’t even try me How much more- 2 meh Tonite-3 Lust to love- 4 This town-3 We got the beat- I don’t need to listen to this again to know it’s a 5. Ok I listened to it and it’s a 5.1 now Fading fast- 3 Automatic- 2.5 You can’t walk in your sleep-3 Skidmarks on my heart- 2.5 Can’t stop the world-3 Overall 3

I liked how upbeat these songs were, but the introductions often made me think the songs would be different and then I would have preferred to hear the song the intros made me think was coming. I think for me the vocals didn’t feel like they matched the rest of the music. Still enjoyed it and the more I listened the less I felt jarred by the difference in their vocals to what I was expecting, but it did feel a bit repetitive/ the songs were quite similar. Fav song: We Got The Beat Least fav: Skidmarks On My Heart

Probably a 3.5 really⭐⭐⭐

Never knew the name of the group, but knew the hits. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but not sure how often I would come back to it

Our Lips are Sealed and We Got the Beat are great singles. Unfortunately stretched across whole album it got a little tiring even though its only 35mins- not sure if it was pitch of vocals - but certainly best in small doses for me.

Muito animado, sempre refrescante e divertido ouvir um bom disco de new wave, melhora o humor de qualquer um

"Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" made The Go-Go's a household name, but the rest of this album made them New-Wave stalwarts. The two aforementioned songs are their poppiest offerings and the rest set the stage for twee-pop, riot grrrl, and 90's alt-rock in general. I wouldn't say I'm a Go-Go's fan, but I definitely have a newfound appreciation for them!

it's so fun and wild. i don't know if i'll revisit but riding to this on my bike was a good time

I didn't realise Our lips are sealed (co-written with Terry Hall) was recorded by them earlier than Fun boy three. The rest of the album not quite up to the same standard.

Actually own a promotional copy of this LP. I do not listen to it very often.

I think the word "skidmark" means something different to the Go-Go's than it does to me. Very fun and catchy, but unlikely to stick with me — maybe because so many other artists have copied this sound since.

Couple decent songs in there.

Brought me back to the 80s quicker than any DeLorean. The best song is Our Lips are Sealed which was co written with Terry Hall of Specials etc fame. We got the Beat is also great. It sounds quite familiar - these songs have been used on many American Films where there is a Jock and a Princess and a Nerd , you know the type. I am debating between 3 or 4 stars. Three stars I think.

Coupla classics.

Go girls. Break the friggin’ mold.

Light and playful, and it led me to Return to the Valley of the Go-Go's, which had more interesting music.

This is ok. I like the standards, “We Got the Beat,” and “Out Lips are Sealed.” Skidmarks on my Heart, though?!? Overall a nice time capsule of music with some fun songs, but nothing I will ever have on heavy rotation.

Ended up enjoying this, especially “Lust for Love” and “this town. But mostly it just made me want to reach for those first couple B-52s masterpieces, and of course the immortal “Heaven is a Place on Earth.”

Its not changing the world, its fun. Fun is good. Do people need to hear this album before they die? Absolutely not.

There are the couple catchy classics and the rest were background tunes. ———————————— My non-musician scoring system. 5 - Love it. Would play anytime, buy, see live… 4 - Good music. 3 - Average playlist. Depends on time and setting. 2 - I can’t listen to whole songs. 1 - No.

The Go-Go’s! A band I’m aware of as important to music history, but I couldn’t have named one of their songs before today (I recognized We Got the Beat, but didn’t know it was a Go-Go’s song). Forcing functions like this are what excites me about the 1001 albums list. I’m broadening my music knowledge, baby. As an album, this is full of cohesive but enjoyably distinct songs. It’s new wave, yes, but the most bubblegum pop version of new wave I’ve encountered. That being said, after two full listens logged, I’m having fun, but it’s not sticking with me as much as I would have hoped. I think I kept hoping for a centerpiece anthem that never arrived.

If the Runaways are the cool older sister out getting into trouble, The Go-Go’s are the good younger sister. Nice 80’s quasi-punk/new wave pop.

Fun Album. My drum teacher used to be the drum tech for Gina, the Go-Go's drummer..

It's a fun album. It's...also not for me! But i felt fabulous while listening.

Irresistibly fun and cute! The lack of variety between tracks brings it down a few notches for me.

Fun and predictable. Not bad but not earth shattering.

When they slow down and get some dirt under their fingernails, this band is pretty cool. The fun poppy bops aren't for me. But overall I'm glad this was on the list.

Fun, but nothing to write home about.

Very enjoyable, post punk pop. Contains some great songs

Slightly maddening but kinda fun anyway.

A rollicking, fun album

It was a band that I never heard of before, nor did I know any songs. It was okay, but quite forgetable. Nothing really sticked out, or caught my attention for very long.

Funky I like

I was a little confused by the obsession that music publications have with this album. Not only is it on this list but its also on the Rolling Stones top 500. But after relistening to the album I kinda get it. It's just 80s pop goodness. You gotta be a real prude not to love songs like "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got The Beat". Plenty of other fun songs here as well. This isn't a revolutionary album or anything but its catchy and fun and definitely deserves some level of praise. Favorite track: We Got The Beat

Didn't realize this was as early as it was. I like it as a precursor to 90s girl alt. Don't love all the unison though. Ironically, 80s girl groups have never been my jam.

This album would slap if I was a 14 year old who just finished school for the summer. I'm not, but it's fun to try and enjoy the album as if I was. What are half of these songs about

Better than what I expected, if not a little too gentle at times. Bands like Lush and Belly clearly drawn from this

A little too gentle for my taste, but they're certainly catchy and dynamic. I especially liked when their sound get more surf and guitar oriented.

Surprisingly enjoyable. It's not going to warp reality, but it was a fun listen.

Fun, upbeat and the right length for what it is. I wouldn't say that this is an amazing album but one that should be listened to if you like music history to see the progression from disco to 80s pop music. I liked this album and knew several tracks, most likely won't list to it ever again though. 6.4/10 102/1001

Kinda fun.

This was fun! A few recognizable songs here so I enjoyed those. Probably wouldn’t listen again but I appreciate 80s pop.

Quite enjoyed this against the odds. It’s very jangly new wave which is usually a death sentence for me, but I enjoyed the bass guitar throughout and there are a lot of great bits of guitar work and catchy hooks. Better than feared but not exactly troubling my all-time favourites.

Great, another new wave album. I feel like this list should be retitiled "600 New Wave albums to listen to before you die, plus a few other things here and there." This one starts upbeat and chirpy. Great. First track is like a candy high. But it actually gets better. This Town is pretty good, and there are some other tracks that might grow on me if I listened to them more.

Really cool record!

uuuh sure why not

Pretty good. Even their slower songs are very upbeat and catchy.

Very poppy, fun, upbeat, summer vibes. It lacks depth in my opinion. Not that it's meant to have much. It's meant to be fun. "Lust to love" was the surprising one to me. I enjoyed it along with the singles, lips are sealed and we got the beat, which are also solid. The rest were forgettable.

I have to admit I was first introduced to Our Lips Are Sealed by the Hilary and Haylie Duff version, not the Go-Go’s version. 3.5 rounded down to 3.

It’s been years since I heard this record, and when it popped up here, I really couldn’t remember it apart from the two hits. I always liked Belinda Carlisle’s voice, and there are plenty of Go Go’s and Belinda Carlisle songs I like. But there are only two of those on this record. It’s not that the record is bad, but it doesn’t offer a ton outside of those two songs; there are a lot of mediocre and filler tracks. I guess I can understand why this record was highly touted for its time (though I am scratching my head at Wikipedia’s assertion that this was an early new wave record), but it maybe it’s a little forgettable by now. 2.7/5 - have to round up

Fun poppy album. I’m sure had I been alive during this albums hay day I would have been all over it.

gostei

The two singles are really stand out tracks but nothing on the album that hurts my ears. I had listened to this a lot as a kid as it was one of the few tapes my sister had and it would be on in the background a lot. The nostalgia factor for me makes this a positive 3 star review instead of a 2 star I'll never listen to this again.

Kind of boring. The first half of the album is for sure the best half. Fav Track: You Can't Walk In Your Sleep

Really enjoyed this. The Go Go's are a band I have always meant to spend some time with but never managed. Liked this album alot but in fairness, I could listen to Belinda Carlisle recite an insurance policy and love it. Cool songs and hooks. Good way to spend half an hour or so.

I dunno this didn't grab me but it wasn't bad.

Some good songs some ok ones

Girl pop. Completely average.

Enjoyed this. Strong vocals and some great tracks

I did try to get into this a number of years back but never really did. I’m not completely sure why as on the face of it this should have been something I liked back then. There’s something about the songs that didn’t quite grab me. My suspicion is that these songs would be great live but perhaps don’t quite have the same ‘punch’ on record. That’s not to say they are bad songs though and it was good without being outstanding. I would say I may not leave it so long before revisiting again but I suspect I will.

Rock, new wave, post-punk? Nope, it’s pure pop music and a pretty solid effort too. I wanted to really like it because of the excellent cover of Our Lips Are Sealed by The Wedding Present, but unlike the cover version, these tracks lack any edge.

It’s nice enough isn’t it. Pleasant post punk poppy rock stuff. Some nice harmonies and some decent songs, nothing to really blow your socks off mind. Tip of the hat to ‘skidmarks on my heart’ as a track name.

If you've heard We Got The Beat, you've basically heard the entire album. Not returning.

I can't decide between a 3 and a 4. This was light, poppy, and concise. It kind of reminds me of The Bangles but I didn't like The Bangles. I like the instruments a lot especially in Can't Stop the World, Lust to Love, and Automatic. There really isn't a bad song though. At worst, the choruses can get a little bit repetitive and the voice a little tiring, but I'm not hating. It's a quick listen, so there's no need to skip. I can see this being so much fun in the 80s.

Greit popalbum, men vender nok ikke tilbake til det.

Fav songs *Our lips are sealed (obviously) *We got this beat *Lust to love 7/10, potential vinyl purchase

I fully expected this to be in here solely due to one massive hit, but it surprised me. I still think it could have used more diversity, but not bad at all. Favorite Track: "We Got The Beat".

I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I'd like, but I was pleased with the opening to this record. We've got the Beat and Lips are Sealed are the immediately recognizable hits. I think I prefer the latter. When I think of we've got the beat I imagine there must be a Simpsons episode Milhouse or Ralph or someone getting punched by Nelson while that song plays in the background. The record is upbeat and fun. I enjoy the vocalization layers across the tracks. There is a certain sound where maybe they step up a half tone or something - it reminds of that 52 girls song I like (what is that sound called, psychedelic?). I guess they started punk and became pop stars. While listening I am reminded of poppier sounding Clash songs I like, such as "Lost in the Super Market" (How Much More comes to mind). I enjoy Lust to Love. Is it a stretch to compare it (slightly) to Patti Smith's 1978 song "Because the Night"? It came out 3 years prior and even mentions Lust ("Because the night belongs to lovers, because the night belong to lust). I could see Automatic leaving some unimpressed, but I like the break from some of the more upbeat songs. I like the music dropping with just a vocal and beat and the little riff coming back. I may have found some of the end of the record repetitive but I am listening while driving home with work thoughts stuck in head, which tends to have a negative impact on listening experience. Overall, enjoyed. Go Go-Gos!

Perfect early 80s poprock. Enjoyed it more then I thought I would.

Better than expected. I learned from the recent documentary that what broke the group up was not drug or alcohol abuse by some members, but that some of the gals that didn't write many/any songs wanted songwriting split evenly 5 ways and Jane who did the heavy lifting for songwriting thought this unfair.

It was ok but a bit samey. Belinda Carlisle has a great voice though.

Fine. It was a lot for a whole album

A fun poppy punky album. Feels quite basic for todays standards, but all songs were catchy. No skips.

I got the beat !

This was a pretty alright album, nothing exciting happened but it wasn't bad. Overall, a bit meh but it was fine having it in the background while doing other stuff.

Our Lips Are Sealed and We Got the Beat: phenomenal 80's tunes. The rest of the album was...um...mediocre 80's tunes?

The sound of a certain time period in my life

Little buzz of pop joy here. Opening track - Alex the Seal - is familiar and a pretty good tune. This was fun - nothing too serious but liked the vibe.

This was fun. A solid '80s album.

Interesting album, very 80’s reminds me of Blondie in terms of their vocals. Not likely to listen to it again.

Fun album

The hits are great; the rest is fine.

Very fun album, but yet again nothing very interesting

Pas mal pour un album punk d'un groupe tout féminin, me rappelle un peu les Pixies dans leurs albums les plus propres. Ne réécouterais pas en entier mais certains morceaux oui

Really good album

Actually liked everything other than their 2 most popular songs.

Went into this wondering how much it would have in common with the classic Loona yyxy EP, beauty&thebeat - and I don't know, I think there's some kind of weird sunny girl pop vibe that they both have?? Anyway this was good, I'd never heard any of it before which is odd in a way because it fits in so well with a lot of the kind of music I listen to all the time. I guess sometimes you just miss stuff! I'm gonna say 3 but I really mean 3.5.

First time hearing. Lots of fun. Held together as an album. Good pop.

Definitely more of a new wave fan than punk fan, but I like where these songs sit, drifting back and forth between the two. There's a lot of fun to be had here, even apart from the astronomical hits that we all heard a million times, "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got The Beat". "Skidmarks On My Heart" is a bop, as the kids say. We've always needed to hear from the women in the world and it's been great to have this coming into our ears for the last 44 years.

Kommer seg halvveis uti

Up there with the best of the punk/new wave explosion of the 70s/80s.

This album is sooo upbeat and happy. I loved it. My knowledge of The Go-Go's was very limited but this is so fun. The bassist and drummer are both FANTASTIC. Blew me away. "You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)" kept making me think of "Walk Like an Egyptian" lolol. "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got The Beat" are huge hits I loved. Actual 3.5. Liked Songs: "Our Lips Are Sealed" , "How Much More" , "Lust To Love" , "We Got The Beat" , "Fading Fast" , "You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)" , "Can't Stop The World"

Fun and catchy

☀︎j’aime pas tant sa voix pis ça sonne tout pareil ☀︎quand même une bonne vibe

Poppy, hooky, upbeat album. Makes me question why Belinda Carlisle left to go solo? From what I can tell she did exactly the same sort of stuff when she left. Maybe it was just greed? On reflection if she'd stayed with the Go Go's I think they would have been huge. Much better than her solo career. (I may be being simplistic here... they probably all fucking hated each other) 3½

This was fun, if a bit fleeting

Rock, Pop, 1981 -> 3

Classic rock-chicks!!!!

Pas l'album rock du siècle, ni même de la décennie, ni même de l'année, ni même du mois. Peut-être du jour, mais c'est déjà pas si mal.

Sounds like early 2000s indie, surprisingly from the 80s

Catchy, light,frothy, fun

lust to love and automatic were my favs

Our lips are sealed - It is alright, a bit catchy. 6.5/10 How much more - Really do not like the vocals, even tho I use to like a bit fussy vocals. 5/10 Tonite - Annoys me that it is spelled incorrectely. 6.5/10 Lust to love - This is the best one so far. 7/10 This town - Same as ''how much more''. 5.5/10 We got the beat - If every song was like this one, the album would actually be decent. 6.5/10 SPEED ROUND!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fading fast - 6/10 Automatic - 8/10 You can't walk in your sleep - 6/10 Skidmarks on my heart - 6.5/10 Can't stop the world - 7/10 Thank god that is over.

Interesting that this was the 2nd best selling album of 1982 after...Asia. The era of the 80's superstars had not really begun. Pleasant stuff. Belinda Carlisle forever.

The debut album from The Go-Go's, this thing is full of catchy melodies and solid, steady rock songs. Its a fun album. There are songs about life, love, and kicking ass. The guitar parts are pretty notable on this album; I really liked the guitar riff on "Lust to Love," and there's a nice slower solo on "This Town," for examples. Anyone who hasn't lived under a rock knows "We Got The Beat" and maybe because I played it so many times in one of the Rock Band games it's kind of lost its luster for me, but its easy to see why that one was a hit single. It holds up. My standouts are "Our Lips Are Sealed" - it's so damn catchy - "Automatic" - loved the stop and go style - and "You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)" - such a catchy jam, although rhyming sleep with sleep so much is sending me. This is a pretty solid album. A few of the songs don't really do a whole lot for me, but its still a fun listen through as a whole.

New wave e helt ok

Kind of interesting but it wasn't strong enough for me to want to listen to on my own

I love Our Lips Are Sealed and was hoping the album would be great but the rest of the tracks didn't stand out as much as I hoped. 3.5

Came into this one knowing one song, came out of it enjoying a lot of them. We Got The Beat surprisingly was not my clear favorite on here, which was a pleasant surprise.

“We Got the Beat” by the Go-Gos First album I don’t recognize, though I do know “We Got the Beat.” Love the album cover, feels very Rococo? Or at least sunbleached. Looking forward to some ‘80s. 1 Bit of an overexposed mix, but I like the sunny guitars. Oh, totally recognize the hook! Catchy as hell. Wish the bassline was a little less plucky. Always thought they were saying “I love Lucille” lol. Pre-chorus is perfect too, love that they interrupt choruses to come back to it. Great song! 2 Wow, dreamy! Love these guitars, good layers super well mixed. A lot warmer than the first track. I think I need to drive in a covetable with long hair to this album. 3 Still fun, and I like the chorus— but the verses are pretty forgettable, and the crash cymbal pisses me off something fierce, it’s way too frequent and flat. 4 Bass line’s great, but lyrics are pretty corny. One thing I’ll say though is that these are pop songs that don’t overstay their welcome, which I appreciate— they still feel complete and whole but are succinct all the same. 5 Okay so I think the vocals are still great, but the limited range is pretty obvious when listening to an album. There’s songs seems like they’d shine brighter as singles, but sequentially they feel pretty samey. I do not care about “This town,” I’m afraid. Guitar solo was pretty weak. Like how the drums are mixed, bass is still really good, meh overall though. 6 Oh yeah this song is iconic for a reason— the bass and keys play off of each other in a really cool way, her range really stretches in a fun way (love the offer register growl) and the drums propel everything forward. Phenomenal song, no notes. 7 But like, see how much less this tried to be its own thing than the previous song? Super forgettable. 8 Oh ok love this, love the tempo change and creepy crawly bass and drums and she says every syllable in “automatic,” and that one time where she pauses for a totally silent moment Newfie saying it again— it’s super fun and distinct and I appreciate the change of pace. I even think the fade-out works pretty well to end the song, despite my predisposition to dislike the choice! Yay 9 It’s fine, I like the guitar getting a little surfier. One of the better songs from this formula they gave but still kinda forgettable. I just wish they’d yell something, or have a weird lyric or solo, or something that marks this as different! 10 “They say get a mechanic / I say get a shrink” is a crazy good line on a song comparing love to a race. The lyrics on this do what I was talking about with the previous song, it feels like it has its own personality way more because of the goofy car and heart lyrics, and there are less general abstractions like “towns” and “nights” and “worlds.” 11 Feels like the tone of a closer, so that’s good—but just forgettable again. Bass lines hood, drums and guitar are formulaic, vocals are fine but nondescript besides her distinct timbre, which wears thin over an album. Really wish more songs stretched her vocal capabilities like “We Got the Beat” or even “Automatic” did. It’s good collection of ‘80s pop songs that I would say is a weak album as a whole, but the highs are high.

Not my usual beat but I would enjoy in a girl summer vibe.

Fun but a bit mediocre imo

It was entirely fine. I can’t find any criticisms. I wasn’t very excited about it though.

Nice album, but not something I'll keep in mind.

Pop punk fun, especially the singles. Lips and The Beat are both absolute classics. Some others here are a bit more throwaway, but overall this is happy stomp through bouncy intelligent 80s pop.

Our Lips Are Sealed is a half decent way to go about starting your recording career. The rest of the album was pleasant, if a little plodding.

Pretty good, if a bit samey. Just a bit of punkiness in there.

pleasant

Maybe at one point I would’ve found this cool but the project has made me more critical 3/5

I wouldn't mind if any of these songs came on the radio, but the album is a little too poppy for me to really get into.

It’s not the richest sound ever but this is a fine pop record

I only knew the radio staple Our Lips Are Sealed going into this. By today's standards this is fairly plain, but I was thinking it would have been fairly groundbreaking back in 81. Then I looked at albums released in 81 and I'm not so sure about that. Overall this is a solid album, but I wouldn't say it's amazing.

Undeniably fun. The two hits from this album continue to hold up.

Groupe inconnu. =>3/5

Couple of bangas, has aged very well. Vacation and Our Lips Are Sealed are very good.

Sahara Hotnight-ish

We got da beat

Uuuuuh, moving on I guess? Decent, but nothing spectacular ⭐⭐⭐

Sometimes an album just needs to be fun!

Solid album, nothing that really stands out as exceptional though. Just good rock. Favorite track was we got the beat

Süß All women Punk ging schon hart

Funny. On Tonite as on ma y other tracks on this little gem ,if you close your eyes and lose the vocals its motnsomvery far away from, say REMs Murmur. It's a proper jangly guitar pop album amd deserves to be considered in that se space if it ain't already I think sometimes because its girls it gets put in a different bracket.

Never cared for pop music, starting with the early eighties stuff, I think. That said, after listening to the whole album, they rock harder than I expected. Still too poppy for my taste. However, an important album in the history of music.

Better than I remember. Not sure I listens to the album before. Actually liked the other songs better than the hits.

a peppy and fun start to the morning, helped by the fact i knew one (1) of their songs

Very fun listen. It complemented the warmest day of the year so far very nicely.

Love me girl bands. Was distracted when listening to them but the guitars went hard.

I thought I'd like it more than I did. It was okay but no real stand out songs for me.

Decent enough 80s album, though it does sound rather dated now. 3/5

Terribly mid I'm afraid :( a few standout singles and the rest kinda just gets left in the dust, I'll have to listen to Vacation sometime soon and give them a second chance!! 2.5/5

Not sure what I was expecting from this album, but this was definitely not it. It's much more of a punk album than it is a pop album. I'm old enough to recognize the singles, but not old enough to have ever listened to the album in full. Overall it was a fairly enjoyable listening experience.

I listened to it all the way through and enjoyed my time with it. It's an easy listening album and if it was ever on, I wouldn't complain about but wouldn't go out of my way to put it on.

3 første kvindelig rockband hvor alle spillede på instrumenter hver især hvor fe ramte 1 Billboard. New wave glose med en smule punk energy. Inspirerede paramore bl.a..

Wow, this takes me back to my college years! As fun and infectious as I remember it!

Best way to define it is Wrigley's Power Pop Soiled Wig Punk. Enjoyed it - probably be quite forgettable though.

Groundbreaking for its time, but a little lackluster now. There are some bops and interesting musicianship, particularly on Automatic.

Good angsty power pop, new wave female rock.

fun, familliar inoffensive. Not bad but it seems like every track sounds familiar.

Screams, and ladies. rock and kind of Blondie but for my taste...

Tonite // Lust To Love // This Town // 2.5/5

I don’t like the nasally vocals that were so popular in this era. Decently fun, nonetheless.

It’s one of those albums where it’s fun to listen but forget about after

Interesting . Two great singles. Probably a little too poppy?

3.5 start album with some 5 star tracks

Fun listen

Can't knock the pun used for the album name, and the album itself was an easy enough listen, but felt a bit bland and by the end I couldn't really remember anything significant, it all just melted into one. A middle of the road 3 stars for me.

The opening song is the best on the album, I prefer the Fun Boy Three cover. I can hear their influences on loads of female led bands like The Long Blondes, Echobelly, The Breeders, Bikini Kill and Sleeper. This is quite similar to The B-52’s first couple of albums. Bubbly, shimmery new wave pop. It's a bit samey, but a pretty fun listen.

Better than I expected!

5/10 - The main singer's vocals are kind of annoying in my opinion. The songs themself kind of blended together but they were alright.

I don’t think this holds up. But at least it was relatively short

Sounds like the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtrack but without guitar distortion.

Somewhere between good and great. This album feels 80s in a good way. It falls into some of the 80s tropes of being repetitive and tonally samey but they own the sound and they do some fun stuff with it. Lust to Love particularly stood out to me as a little grittier that I think was the highlight. It leaned more on the edgier side and I wish I got more of that. Still though it's a solid album that I'm not the biggest fan of the genre.

One can easily see how this put them on the map. Our Lips are Sealed and We Got the Beat are all timers. The rest is kind of one note and filler.

Just a decent pop album. 3 stars

Serviceable and efficient pop music. It's from '81 so it's from pretty early on in new wave's life cycle, which is probably why it's here. It's fine! None of it really stuck with me which is a pretty big problem with music like this. If it's not catchy, then what is it?

I don't hate this but I also don't have any desire to listen to it again. It's fun, it's been copied, it's consistent, but while it's bouncy, it lacks a certain kind of energy that I think would improve a lot of new wave stuff.

Yeah it’s ok. 3.

Solid 80s pop

Fun high energy new wave that emphasizes the drums banging out the Bo Diddley beat, guitars borrowing style and sounds from surf rock, and a direct popping bass bouncing along, all in support of sing songy vocals. Mostly it's bright and poppy but a few cool moments when it's a bit darker and more post-punk. Favorites: automatic, skid marks on my heart, our lips are sealed

This album is great! It's got a couple of bangers, and generally has a great energy to it. Strong 3/5.

(insert classic 3 star review here)

This was the first album I listened to twice. Not necessarily because it was that great, but because I didn't realise it had looped. It was good enough for me to not wait for it to be over, but samey enough for me not to realise. I think it was probably pretty unique at its time, but hearing it now it just felt perfectly decent.

Very 80s, but not necessarily in a bad way. "This Town" has a fun vibe. Ditto "You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)."

3/4 idk

Fun and bouncy easy to listen and dance to

Super fun. Good beat. Ha ha. Really enjoyed it. Couple weird tracks. Guess that’s why it’s new wave.

Lovely 80s tune with some critical smashes.

They found a sound and they stuck with it. Our Lips Are Sealed is a classic, the rest had more or less the same ambience.

Flirty, bouncy, and so much fun. More all-girl rock groups, please!

Say “thank you”, every surf rock band

A great example of 80s new wave This Town is one of my favorite tracks along with You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep). With the 2 singles We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed, a solid album.

This was a bit of fun, but nothing really moving for me. Now I understand the Bieber reference tho

it was okay, standard 80s pop album

solid album, not my fav genre but appreciate the era of music, we got the beat was my fav song

Quite enjoyed it. Liked Fading Fast and Automatic

Upbeat and fun

Fun with with an all ladies group, don't get that very often unfortunately! I think this was a pretty decent album. 'Our Lips Are Sealed' was my favourite song of the album, it had a nice groove to it. I also enjoyed 'How Much More' and 'Fading Fast'. I can see this being quite fun to dance to at a party or something as it had quite much energy. The runtime of 35 minutes was just perfect before it started getting tiresome. Wish more albums could keep it down in that area, it makes it much more digestable in a sitting. Strong 3!

I don't know. It faded into the background a bit. Nothing really gripped me

Super fun pop, flew by and I enjoyed the whole time. No complaints

3+ Stars (9/15)

A delightful collection of dumb songs with one exception; Our Lips Are Sealed is actually legit. From there its just dumb and dumber which renders a complete mystery the fact that We Got The Beat is so damned fun to listen to. Try doing something like that AI!

Some awesome punk with some banger tracks, but also filled with lots of really forgettable tracks. I was teetering toward a 4 but "Skidmarks on my Heart" was so bad I can only give it a 3

Καποια catchy κομματια, ωραια vocals και hooks. Αλλα οκ συνολικα οχι κατι ιδιαιτερο ή ενδιαφερον

Other than the nostalgia factor, there's not much here.

250/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

Great Energy! But not much variation in the production or the voice.

Might have been really avant garde when it came out but now it sounds dated. Instrumentals are nice though

Pretty fun actually

As per usual with me I'm not the biggest in power pop/pop rock stuff that this album leans into but the points where it goes for more obvious new wave stuff as well as the strong melodies that they have it just makes it a good time. It's the kind of bright new wave thing that I can get behind for a change

Pop agradable. Prefiero a Blondie

Our Lips are Sealed and We Got the Beat are great singles. Unfortunately stretched across whole album it got a little tiring even though its only 35mins- not sure if it was pitch of vocals - but certainly best in small doses for me.

I’m quite partial to some 80s cheese

Not bad at all. Simpsons: No

i maybe would have ranked this album higher if i got it on a day where i wasn’t in an abysmal mood. its okay. our lips are sealed is iconic though fav songs: our lips are sealed, skidmarks on my heart

Pop animado. Ni fu ni fa.

Perfectly fine album. Belongs on this list but I only come back to it occasionally.

Beyond the hits this album was just alright. I just couldn't get into this one. Respect for the more poppy but still a bit punky music. I bet this music would have been quite good at a club show live. As for recorded music, it's just alright.

Very poppy side of new wave. Not a bad album, I just think it’s pretty generic sounding to my ears at least. For its time, it may have been considered more innovative, but I’m not sure as it’s before my time. Fun, but generic is how I’d describe it.

I liked this, nice melodies and fun production, but nothing really stood out. My favourite was How Much More, pair that with Rusholme Ruffians as a great interpolation of Marie's the name. 3/3.5

fun album.

Fun pop.

I felt like it should be bland and basic but girls won me over with their energy. You go girl!

Not bad! Muzyka i teksty niezbyt wyrafinowane, ale catchy, dobrze mi się słuchało, spoko poprock wpadający w new wave. Fav energy boosters: Lust for Love This town You can't walk in your sleep Skidmarks on my heart Playful & glamorous, rozumiem, czemu dziewczyny odniosły sukces w swoim czasie :> Pop też trza umić robić, a przez te oczy zielone Belindy Carlisle nieco oszalałem ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Bleh. The album is fine, but I'll have forgotten about it tomorrow.

Enjoyed this album

p473. 1981. 3 stars. Prototype Bangles, but without the harmonies. Outside of the singles, there's a lot of filler. Credit for opening the door for every other girl band writing their own material that followed.

Power pop

5/10… new wave / pop

My only memory of the Go Gos was Our Lips Are Sealed so I was expecting a light weight poppy album. This is a surprise! It's like 'the Ronettes sing the Ramones with 80s jangles' - girls with harmony singing punkish 80s tunes. Not at all what I expected. Skidmarks on My Heart is gold. Worth a few listens, although overall I found the very 80sness of the sound is hard to get past to really enjoy it fully.

They def deserve 3 stars for creating a sound of the age. Still not stuff I'd play to make me feel good

It was fine

Extra star for the pun.

It was okay. But nothing fancy. I'll might give it an another chance...

Listening to this feels like getting beaten up by cheerleaders with tambourines.

Run of the mill 80s pop punk. 3.1/5

Quite cool, not a massive fan of punk style but it was soft enough ! So I would put a 3.75/5 !

Fun, light, punky - the prawn cocktail crisps of music

hahah funny name sehr cute gitarre STIMM NERVIG s lied isch scho fertig lol finds bia jz cool aber halt nöd meh iwie ok s isch iwie echt nüt mega krasses, hna jz kei schlechti ziit gha aber ja bö

I didn't have the band on my radar. I may have heard of them, but I'm no longer aware of it. I wasn't familiar with the song "We Got the Beat" either. I found the album quite funny. The best thing about it was that it reminded me of B'52. But I prefer listening to the B'52, which is even more fun. 3/5

Finally, something I have a light bias against: power pop. As a genre I find most of the classics tedious, with exceptions like My Sharona, 867-5309 and anything The Police made in the 1970s being a bit rare. Outside of Big Star and Supergrass, I can't think of many bands in the genre that hover towards my musical preferences. Enter the Go-Go's, a band I am pleasantly surprised to learn is not a one hit wonder *and* has a bolded album! Also known for kick-starting the solo career of Belinda Carlisle, who was shortly drummer for hardcore punk band Germs and made the dream pop classic Circle in the Sand. A career of opposites. Musically this record's hard to dislike. It has a jangling rumble to it that's reminiscent of the Athens indie scene (R E.M., B-52s, Love Tractor). Of course the closest point of comparison for me is the Bangles, but this feels significantly more organic and carefree than their prime records. If there's a criticism I can levy against it, it just lacks a lot of staying power. The songs start to blend together and outside of We Got the Beat (extremely overplayed but fairly distinct), I can't see what makes this better than other new wave records at the time. Maybe a taste difference. A welcome step out of my comfort zone, even though I'm sure I'll never listen to it again. 6/10

Legendary and influential

Fun pop

A couple of great pop songs, but was disappointed in the rest of the album.

One of the first albums I bought. High energy, new wave... The band faded away quickly, and their history is probably better than the music left behind, but there are a couple absolute gems on this album.

Quite nice a bit middle of the road

Fine 80's album.

It was pretty decent but not my style and can’t see myself revisiting

This is fine, a little boring and repetitive. More enjoyable to me than the new wave 80s pop. Probably actually 2.5 but I’ll round up

Enjoyable album to listen to around California. Fun and familiar songs but outside of the singles, not the greatest songs

Fun listen for drive in CA. does sound a bit dated which hurts its replay-ability, but a good example of nu-wave and has the hits to back it up.

This does feel like an album that was only included because they were girls that "made it" since it's not really extraordinary in any other way besides that. Not bad though.

80s, pure 80s. It's poppy, boppy and fun. This is music I'd love to listen to while out drinking at one of my favorite dive bars, and I likely have heard this record before in such a setting. The vocals are captivating and beautiful. The music and beat keep me entranced and vibing the whole time. Good tunes.

Good album back in the day. Not so crazy about it now.

Not really what I’d listen to day-to-day but is a classic from the 80s. Other than we got the best favorite song was probably Lust To Love.

Decent None of the songs stood out to me but I like how the album maintains a consistent sound throughout its run time
