Reviews (page 10 of 13)

They were the original girl power band.

I found this a perfectly reasonable 80's fun pop album. Couple of good singles, nice energy and skipped along well.

The funboythree version of Our Lips are Sealed is so much better than the one on this album, not even close Liked it more on first listen. Second it got less interesting. 3

27/09/24 An average listen.

Our lips are sealed - I like the guitars, and the pulse, chord progressions are nice, good tempo How much more - I like the harmonies, the drum fills are cool too, toms are nice Tonite - I like how the guitar bounced from left to right ear, the part where the cymbal comes in is cool, and the section where they say they rule the streets and that chord change, nice instrumental and fade out Lust to love - nice low guitar pattern and fade in, I really like this drum rhythm, its my favourite so far, this chorus is amazing, instrumental solo is fantastic This town - I think this is in 14/8, I like the organ in the background, change in time signature to 4/4 in chorus, I liked that background guitar in the chorus, I like the guitar rhythm in the solo section We got the beat - I like the low end guitar, I like the ascending and descending guitar in the instrumental part in the middle part of the song, I like the clap along section Fading fast - I like the chord progression, I like the pattern in the background that goes up and down in the chorus, nice harmonies Automatic - wow okay different sound at the intro, slow and nice crescendo to start, I like the mainline guitar, I like the tempo is slower on this one, and the guitar that plays on the first snare in the first section, the "stop" section is unique, other than that probably my least favourite song so far on the album due to it feeling super boring sounding You can't walk in your sleep - Tempo is back to upbeat which hits harder because of the song before Skidmarks on my heart - I like the drum rhythm at the start because its different, changes very quickly and I like that too, the variety is good, its a cute hook too and kind of catchy, has a nice guitar solo too, one thing I love is the drums in this album, crash to end that song Can't stop the world - last song, the guitar is creating the pulse and its good, I liked that small tom pattern section, the end has this bit that almost feels like it seals up the album. favs: lust to love, our lips are sealed,

Good. Very nice

The pop elements are a bit sugary for my taste and the nods to punk somehow weaken the overall package causing it all to fall a bit flat for me.

A couple of killer singles - filled with sunshine

I have heard of this band, but never listened to any of their music. I do know this first track. Pretty cool. I dig it.

Nothing memorable for me. Their vocals kind of annoyed me but the instrumentals were great.

Although I never particularly enjoyed their music, I really respect The Go-Go's. They were a group of women in a male dominated industry. And they beat their asses.

This has nice energy, it’s melodic and happy enough but I find that these songs kinda pass me by. “Our Lips Are Sealed” is awesome and there are good songs to be found but it doesn’t completely win me over. I prefer some of Belinda’s solo work. Highlight: “Our Lips Are Sealed” 3.5 stars.

Fun stuff! A little samey, but the hits are hits for a reason Faves: We Got the Beat, Our Lips are Sealed

The two singles are great. I suspect they didn't break through in the UK only because of a lack of marketing power.

The Go-Go's are one of the more fun girl-pop post punk bands. This is a fun album.

Oh! We got the beat!- Overall, its a "Classic 80's album" to me, someone born in '96. The sound, the vibe, and flow are all very fitting.

Good album, I don't think it's going to bring me back though

Didn't expect to like this as much as I did. Still not my favourite thing; I was just expecting to dislike it.

Strong blondie vibes, theb took me down an elvis constellation rabbit hole so happy with that. Skidmarks on my heart was the highlight

New wave surfer girl pop. All the songs sound similar but that’s probably because they only used a few chords. It’s a fun simple album and produced a couple classic hits. Probably not as noteworthy as people seem to think it is.

Not so bad, nothing really exceptional for me.

power pop/surf rock/punk pop from the 80s. Funpop. We got the beat How much more Our lips are sealed

This is great - very catchy and fun

Canny enough. Decent new wave record, if a bit on the light side. Some great tracks (Automatic, Skidmarks on my Heart) surrounded by some decent if forgettable tracks. B52s do this a loooot better. Decent enough but can’t see me rushing back

Cyndi lauper-esque power pop, like Cyndi I thought most of the songs were good but the go-gos were a bit more samey. Definitely has that 80s singing style that can either work really well or get on my nerves and both were true at various points. This was mostly good but with enough flaws to hold it back. 3.5 but closer to a 3.

Lot’s of catchy stuff but nothing to rock my world.

Very fun and bouncy throughout!

lots of fun!! never really registered this band in my brain but knew a bunch of tracks

Good for what it is. Not mind-blowing.

There are a few hits here, but the album is average.

Classic 80s

This is a really really awesome album. Two killer tracks with ‘Our Lips are Sealed’ and the obvious classic ‘We Got the Bear’. The rest of the songs hold up for such a fun sound. Definitely glad I listened to it.

Upbeat and catchy, so no complaints here. We Got the Beat is obviously a classic, but nothing really stuck out as amazing (or terrible) other than that. A lot of the songs sounded pretty similar, but still distinguishable.

A really fun and breezy album that reminds me of the songs they played in gym class in middle school. The combination of new wave and surf rock is a lot of fun to listen to.

I've never really been a fan of The Go-Go's and their brand of rock music. But, they were a solid group nonetheless. I appreciate the musicianship and the passion coming through their music but it's just not for me.

Acceptable 80s album. Not my favorite but not terrible.

I've giving it three stars because I see the vision and I love that it's an all female band. I think I should check out some of their pre-album work, which is reportedly more punk than this. I don't think I'm a huge new-wave fan. It's just a little boring to listen to, in my opinion.

Favorite Track: Fading Fast

Pop Pop Pop! How lovely - fun New Wave nugget!

This was a fun listen. I definitely knew a couple of these and enjoyed revisiting them and hearing what the rest of the album sounds like. Definitely one of the things labelled New Wave that I have liked the most. Still falls to the 3 star level for me, but can get to why it's a higher ranked one for anyone. It's still just not quite my genre, but more albums like this might start to win me over more.

A bunch of great 80's pop songs 3

The Beauty And The Beat is the sound of sunshine. There is a brightness to it that I don’t believe a group of men could produce. Carlisle’s vocals are great and the guitar is clean and bright, for lack of a better word 7.1/10

Girl rock at its finest. They sound a bit punk, but I'll take the New Wave sticker.

Albumi #2, 29.07.2024 Belinda Carlisle on vanha tuttu, mutta The Go-Go’s on jäänyt vähemmälle kuuntelulle. Debyyttialbumi heijastelee hienosti ajan henkeä ja siinä on selkeästi punk-aikakauden jälkiä. Toisaalta nykypäivään peilaten esim vahvoihin melodioihin nojaava Best Coast on tyylillisesti paljon velkaa The Go-Go’sille. Silti se ehdoton huippukohta levyltä jää kuitenkin löytymättä. ”Beauty and the Beat” menee lokeroon ”Ei mikään erikoinen, mutta pitää tietää”.

Awesome girl pop rock album

Easy listen

one good song, eleven times over. it is a banger tbf

Pysyy hienosti konstailemattomana läpi levyn eikä aleta huutamaankaan efektiksi. Hienoa! Hyvät melodiat, hokemat ja stemmat riittävät, sen he tietävät. Viihdyin hyvin ja kiinnostuin.

Bändi lisää riittävän vivahteen omaksuttuun melodisuuteen. Our Lips Are Sealed -sinkun tyyppinen sointumaailma ei ole koskaan purrut minuun, mutta esimerkiksi Tonitea on vaikea ohittaa. Plussaa ensireaktion horjuttamisesta.

Didn’t mind this at all!

Quite a solid album

Catchy, breezy, but ultimately a little unremarkable for me. Other all female bands of yonder have done it better

Memory of the Go-go’s was 80’s girlgroup pop but there’s is a bit of edge. A very minimal amount of edge but less offensive than the pop of the 90’s onward. Fits the bill so I’d add a 3.5 if possible.

Definitely solid. I'm some ways very good. It can't quite get to a 4 for me, but it's close. Wish I could give a 3.5.

It was okay. 80's all female pop punk/punk rock. Not bad but i did not feel attached to it.

Super fun album. I've heard the hits before but never the whole album. Great vibe and brings back memories of my sisters when I was a little kid.

As much as I’ve heard the singles from this album I don’t think I’ve really listened to the album. I got what I was expecting to hear until I got to Lust To Love. There’s some really cool melodic choices on that one and it has a lot of early Cure vibes. Feels like the album shifts there and I’m happy with the shift it makes. I love the simplicity of this record, short and sweet, made for a fun listen but I don’t think it’ll be one that I revisit frequently. A solid 3.5 for me.

I kinda just played this one in the background. Standard 80's music here. I like their opening track, as it is a familiar hit. Honestly, I was too busy with work to really soak it in. I'll need to give it proper attention later.

Upbeat power pop with tinges of new wave, punk, post-punk, bubble gum, and surf. A trailblazing all-girl group that was probably the template for all those fictional '80s girl bands of my youth - - Barbie and the Rockers, Jem and the Holograms, etc. Never veering too far into the sex, drugs, and rock and roll realm like, say, The Runaways, the vibe is mostly sunny and outgoing. Reminds me a bit of Blondie, although I much prefer Blondie. At times the sound somehow felt a little thin.

I liked this one. Never heard one of their albums before. Just a good straightforward album with straightforward songs. I liked the melodies and how some of the songs had a bit of Dick Dale surf guitar sounds going. It was like a combination of do wop, pop and punk in a way. Strangely enough I can hear some similarities to Green Day. Maybe Green Day was influenced by the Go Go's.

decent jangly new wave shit

A fun but one-note pop album. I knew two of the songs, which are good. The rest of the album is fine. Automatic was a nice change of sound for the album. Standouts: Our Lips Are Sealed, How Much More, and Automatic.

flavourful but repetitive. good listen nonetheless.

Brings back good memories right from the start. Loved hearing "Our Lips Are Sealed" but no other highlights for me. Too early 80's with no substance: the same thing over and over.

Catchy Pop Songs.

It was better with better headphones; on lesser phones the sopranos and the drums and the clipped wording all got kind of punchy. I appreciated this album, but I probably wouldn't get it from the Columbia Records and Tapes Club.

I respect this more than I did when it first came out but I'm still not a fan.

Fun at times but also quite forgettable

++: We Got the Beat +: Our Lips Are Sealed, How Much More, Tonite, Lust to Love, This Town, Fading Fast, Automatic, You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep), Skidmarks on My Heart, Can't Stop The World 7,6/10

Upbeat, peppy songs, good for background when concentrating, but not the kind of music I’d typically listen to.

It has some classics on it.

Fun. Not sure about this being post-punk. But it's pretty good.

Oh. So that's where the soundtrack from every movie I grew up with came from.

we got the beeeeaaaattttt 58/100

I had only heard the two hits and didn’t know much about this band at all but I think this album is pretty solid. I didn't know they were punk rockers who slowed their songs down to record them or that one of them played Joan of Arc in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” I think they are a little derivative of Blondie but a ton of things obviously copied them so it’s hard to fault them for that. Good album.

I forgor

its decent i suppose. not a fan of we got the beat but the album is fine overall. strong 5/10

Some good songs

Favourite track: Lust to Love.

Glitzy, fun 80s pop. Played this while cooking dinner, was great for kitchen dancing energy.

Which takes most of the time to think up a commentary for another average album.

Jimmy neutron ahh music (and I say that meaning high praise)

Upbeat average 80s pop

My cousin used to sing “we got the beat” poorly and that’s all I could hear and I’m sorry

Some real catchy stuff, but for the most part it's elementary and repetitive.

Good 80's pop.

Blondie lite? Catchy, nice synths and bass. Nice start! Yeah this is cool. Kinda punk influenced pop (but not pop punk?) Now sounds less like Debbie et al. Reminds me of like... another girl another planet? Ramones? Joy division a tiny bit? This town is great. Nice riff and rhythm. Automatic is a bit slow but I like the build and spook. Finishes with something a little standard, but nice overall. Feels like I should have rated steely dan lower and this is a more solid 3 out of 5!

There's the hits, and not much else

Burbujeante

Fun album Standout songs: This Town Automatic We got the beat

Points for being a pretty unique genre (surf-glam?) Unfortunately if you've heard the two hits you've heard the whole album

Our Lips Are Sealed How Much More Tonite We Got the Beat Upbeat catchy lines. This whole album puts me in a good mood. It’s kind of hard to describe. Their voices and the melody’s of the music just fill the room with a summer feel good vibe.

Pop normalito

Þetta var mjög fín plata þótt ég muni merkja hana sem meðalplötu. Það er líklegast bara af því að hún er það gleymanleg að ég mun aldrei setja hana aftur á nema að andinn komi skyndilega yfir mig og ég muni eftir þeim. Það var sem sagt ekkert að þessu annað en að ég mun gleyma þeim fljótt.

Our lips are sealed because a nuclear eat worm in my head for three days after listening to this album. I couldn't get to sleep because it just kept repeating in my head. I'll give it a 3

At first very syrupy sweet, but has a harder edge that creeps through. I kid you not, there is a lot of similarity between some of these songs and The Offspring, Green Day, and Nirvana in chords and melody, which took me by surprise.

"widely considered the most successful all-female rock band of all time" - strong for them, although it makes one consider the disparities in the constitutions of successful rock bands. Nonetheless we recognize their groundbreaking initiative.

Exceeded my expectations. Definitively 80s

FAVO: Our lips are sealed, Lust to love, We got the beat, Fading Fast

I don't know why, but this album feels like summer

I love Cecile. Fun, poppy new wave.

This was good, I liked it. More than just one hit.

It’s upbeat and fun! It kinda sounds like how Phoebe Buffay thinks she sounds like. I don’t think I’d listen to this unprompted.

Up beat, fun

Nice and jangly and 80s. Loved the drums! I’ve only ever listened to their singles so it was good to learn their music is solid beyond those.

Positiv overraskelse! Our Lips Are Sealed var i ret høj rotation på mine 80'er playlister i gymnasiet, men har aldrig hørt albummet. Catchy poprock med new wave og Phil Spector-girlbands-inspirationer! Lige noget for mig! stor 3'er!

Super catchy!

God kvindergy!

Good album, but their sounds all sound similar. High 3

It's good but too 80s sounding.

good fun pop

Average pop from the 80s. Ok but nothing more.

Mediocre.

I had never listened to an album all the way through from the Go-Go's before today. I had certainly heard "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" before and those were certainly a fine listen and were highlights on the album but I think the songs that stuck out for me were "Tonite" and "You Can't Walk in You Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)" as they had a little more depth to me and weren't quite as "poppy". I would think the Go-Go's must have a been a really fun live show!

Fun, pure fun.

It's good. Easy listen, I love my lips are sealed and the Terry hall background, ended up having a Fun boy Three listen afterwards and it was very nice, it's nice to listen to a sing and really know what it's about. I really like tonight, this town and fading fast, though not enough for any of them to get a like. It was nice easy listening and has been added to the library however.

3 - For me, the obvious stand out is Our Lips Are Sealed, with We Got The Beat still being a classic, but lesser in my opinion. The rest kinda just feels like filler, but I was surprised by the sound that Automatic brought to the album. Those hits are carrying this rating, and Automatic solidifies it as a three.

Early girlpop

sounds thin. beats are straight ahead. vocals layered and nuanced.

A fun album that is worth more than the two hits off it. There were a few less played songs that I will definitely return for

Love the Go-Go’s but I’ve always hated we got the beat

I enjoyed it but track quality is variable. Skid marks on my heart is a jam

How Much More.

I know "Our Lips are Sealed" so well through Nouvelle Vague cover albums, and I love hearing their original forms.

On the whole it’s forgettable songs. That said, it’s dated well. 3.25/5

This was pretty good. i preferred the foret half of the album.

Takie w tle do posłuchania popik 3/5

This feels like ABBA meets Surfing Bird. And I was ok with this.

There are a couple really good ones here. Most of it didn't grab me though.

Pretty good album. Really enjoyed it, hard for me to go past 3/5 though.

Decent jangle pop that barely treads above water. Wasn't a fan of the first two tracks, but Tonite and Lust to Love have some pretty solid hooks that locked me in for the rest of the record. Not going back to it but not mad I gave it a shot.

For some reason I've never heard of these. The album starts with so much promise, with catchy and upbeat songs.... Then after track 4 it becomes a drag as they really slow the pace down. It ends better though. I also didn't know this is the band that launched Belinda Carlisle sooo

Not terrible, just not that interesting and kinda forgettable

Couple hits, nice blend. Very 80’s.

It was fun, but nothing amazing. Go-Go's will always be super catchy.

Post punk girl band with all the ingredients. This album should be a 'must listen' just for the song "Our Lips are Sealed'. Almost a perfect pop song.

Diving into "Beauty and the Beat" by The Go-Go's was like expecting a fizzy pop soda and getting a craft cocktail instead—surprising, with an unexpected kick. Sure, the hits "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" are the glossy, front-of-house attractions, but it's in the dimly lit backroom where the album really mixes its magic. Tracks like "Lust to Love" and "This Town" strut with a punk-infused confidence that whispers, "Yeah, we can rock out, but we choose to bop." Discovering The Go-Go's punk roots was like finding out your favorite librarian used to be in a biker gang—shocking, yet it explains the edge behind those glasses. This album teases with that edge, offering glimpses of a grittier past that makes the pop sheen all the more intriguing. In all, "Beauty and the Beat" is an enjoyable jaunt through a pop soundscape dotted with punk pebbles. While I appreciate the craftsmanship and the history, it's not quite the album I'd have on repeat. It's like a fun first date that doesn't quite lead to a second—you're glad for the experience, but you're not rushing to relive it. Solid 3 stars for an album that dances confidently in its contradictions, even if it doesn't entirely sweep me off my feet.

Solides Musikalbum, was einen in die 1980iger zurückholt. Auch heute noch stimmige Radiomusik.

I enjoyed this. I was a little unclear as to how to describe the genre, but it was still good. I probably won’t relisten to this album too much. I think there was some Cyndi Lauper inspiration here but maybe a bit more rock.

Sondly good.

Pop alegre y pegadizo que personalmente me gusta en especial en canciones como "Lust to Love o "How Much More".

Beauty And The Beat is a fun 80s new wave/girl punk album. There are some highlights, but it also somehow feels a little forgettable outside of key songs like "We Got The Beat" and "This Town". Best Songs: Our Lips Are Sealed, This Town, We Got The Beat, You Can't Walk In Your Sleep Worst Songs: Lust To Love, Skidmarks On My Heart

Our Lips Are Sealed is a certified banger but the rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired.

Some decent production and music in it but suffers from being very 1 paced. 2.5.

Really uninteresting

Not my cup of tea , outwith the hits

Poppy 80’s album

Their voices are kinda annoying, but I liked it

This is called new wave but it's really bubblegum pop.

Better than I was expecting.

#157. I was worried this album was going to be annoying, but it wasn't that bad. Very upbeat poppy new wave kind of thing, pretty decent for the most part. 3/5: fun

Quite good.

The whole album is a vibe, bop after bop. The Go-Gos have such an immediately identifiable sound, which I love, but it's a tad one-note (to my ears at least) after long enough

Not bad

MIldly entertaining but ultimately forgettable.

Fun listening in the background, but nothing to really bite my teeth into.

80's new wave pop. I knew about the Go-Go's and have heard this album before. It's pretty well-crafted pop - solid up-tempo beat, catchy melodies, traditional pop themes. I like their sound and applaud them for being a self-directed all-girl band in a rock'n'roll world dominated by men, but I don't think they stand out from the general pop background for any other reason.

I'm not familiar with this album at all. Excited for something really new. Definitely in my wheelhouse, 80s pop is really great. Wow, okay, I recognize some of these hits, and I really love some of these tracks. Songs I like but didn't know it was them: "Our Lips Are Sealed", "We Got the Beat". Definitely an album and band I will be revisiting. A few down moments that didn't quite hold my attention, but overall a fun listen! 3/5

I’ve always been a big fan of girl groups. I loved the two hit singles off this album. I actually thought the album was a bit limp at the time, but, on reflection, it sounds okay. Interesting the Belinda Carlisle only has one co-writing credit on the album. Also interesting that The Specials’ Terry Hall co-wrote Our Lips Are Sealed (better known these daze as Alex The Seal). He and Weidlin were an item at the time they wrote it. (Hall sadly died of pancreatic cancer in 2022). It is one of the 80’s great pop anthems. We Got The Beat was an even more successful single & it certainly was different in style to the other - it was rockier I guess. I enjoyed listening to the rest of the album, but nothing jumped out at me like the two songs this band will always be remembered for.

Never really did the Go-Go's, but one has to admit there are some songs here that are just now part of the cultural psyche. Good hooks. Legendary bandmates.

They were a pretty good pop band, when the all girl stuff was popular. Their music appealed to 70s teens.

not bad but still kinda boring

Better than I remember

Not much to say about this.

Certainly held my attention but I hoped for a little bit more variety.

A fun burst of energetic, guitar driven new wave era punk with a healthy dose of pop sensibility. I rather enjoyed the more frenetic songs and some tastefully executed guitar interplay.

Very fun pop-rock, reminds me of Roxette and the like, but there are too many filler songs to really make this album a banger.

Couple of good songs.

This is a good album...classic 80s sound. Ok course the hits "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got The Beat" lead the charge here but the rest of the songs are respectable as well.

Lots of energy! Not as good as I remember from back then.

Liked this more than I thought I would

A super impressive debut album with a few all time classics, which are still my favorites after listening to the full album (our lips are sealed and we got the beat). The consistent sound is not bad per se, but leads to some tracks blending in with others. Some of the lyrics I was just not vibing with, but the album is hard carried by the upbeat and energetic sound they carry throughout. Album cover is pretty fire, and it’s a great album name.

An ok album

Standouts: Lust to Love, We Got The Beat, Automatic

Catchy lyrics and fun instrumentals.

This was pretty good, nice 80s vibe.

Fun listen. Didn’t realize how many I’d heard before.

Good album! Kind of all sound similar though. But good energy throughout. Starred 2-3 songs.

didnt love this one, low 3

They've got the beat!

3.5 Liked it a lot, pleasant on the ears but no stand out tracks or anything

It feels like this entire album has no bass sound - everything from the voices to guitar to the drums is in a narrow high frequency band, it makes the songs not sound very ‘full’

Certainly well-executed 80s pop. Complete with catchy hooks and dance beats. The hits are timeless, and the rest is filler.

Really enjoyable

Fine for a bit but wears pretty thin even in a run time just over half an hour long. Needs more ideas.

There are some classics on here. Didn't even know this existed. I should listen to more.

80s new wave. Said all I need to say.

It was good. 80s girly rock. I liked it but I'm not going to add any songs to my likes. They got the beat, was the best song on the album.

Considering that this is their debut album, it is very strong. Loved the vibe, post-punk mixed with new wave. 3/5. Favourite song(s): "How Much More", "Tonite".

Love the vibe. Awesome alt-rock band. Iz good.

Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. A couple bangers.

Fun 80's pop music, that I would listen to again.

I wish the vocals on this were mastered a little cleaner. I felt like the muted vocals took away from the songs, even though it made the solid instrumentals more pronounced.

It's fine. Fav tracks Our Lips are Sealed, Lust to Love, We got the Beat

Fuck man

Automatic is my favorite

Bouncy, peppy, fun, but not my go-to.

Fun and upbeat, but to be honest kinda wears on the ears after a while

Entertaining and fun

I was surprised by this. I didn't expect to like that it at all but I didn't hate it. I'm not about to run out and buy all the Go-Go's albums I can or anything but I would be willing to listen to more. 3 stars is where I'm at.

Middle of the road, nothing bad, nothing standing out as particularly good. I hear little reason to put it on again, but I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. A nice time-capsule.

I'm generally not a fan of 80's music but this was...pretty OK? Also fun since they have a song titled "Skidmarks On My Heart" and I don't think of tires when I hear "skidmarks." Also I'm 12 years old. Anyway, I liked this more than I thought I would, but not enough to ever listen to it again.

I enjoyed this album much more than I expected. We've Got the Beat was so far out of my wheelhouse that I never bothered trying anything else. I can't say I will ever listen to this again, but I am glad that I can.

A bit too repetitive.

Beauty and the Beat by The Go-Go's offers a lively start with its upbeat rhythms and catchy tunes. The initial energy captivates listeners, creating an enjoyable experience. However, as the album progresses, it tends to lose some of its initial charm, resulting in a somewhat mediocre finish. Overall, it's an okay listen that shines brighter in its early tracks. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 3 STAND OUT TRACK - How Much More

Liked the riffage, First song reminded me of I don't live here anymore by War On Drugs. Just the little lick.

Though they may have been badass personalities, the music was too pip for me.

Classic New Wave sound. Lots of fun, but the same beat got a little tiresome near the end of the album. More fun for the singles I find. "Automatic" was a stand out for its slower pace. 3/5

Another solid classic punk album that had a big influence. I found many of the sounds reassembled themselves, which sometimes felt redundant, but I still appreciate their music and the mark they left on the next generations. 3

Good songs, deserves to be on the list. I probably wouldn’t listen to the album much, but it’s got some solid songs.

Very iconic 80's pop, a couple great hits.

boom boom boom boom

New to me, was pretty okay

It was okay felt a little disinteresting at some points but ok.

Great club music!

Unexpectedly liked it but wouldn’t listen it it again 3*

Fun energy. Lots of good tracks beyond the best known ones.

Not my style, but for what it was it was pretty good. Makes me wanna take a road trip in the eighties and complain about my boyfriend. Instruments and vocals were solid, but nothing jumped out at me. Not too shabby

the details don't really show themselves to me. every song felt united... for better and for worse.

Not my cup of go go!

Hmm - there are better new wave bands. I don't like the voices too much. Three stars - mostly because of the beat ;-)

Often too repetitive and saccharine. Didn't really like the two singles but preferred some other tracks where vocals weren't as...well, saccharine. Yet another meh

This is a pretty fun album with some iconic tracks on it. Musically, it doesn't do a whole lot for me. Pop music can only retain my attention for so long, but this album certainly doesn't take itself too seriously and has an appropriate runtime for what it is. Favorite track: We Got the Beat

Jingly punk rock pop

6.5/10

It was aight. Not my fave not bad.

Seems generic, first listen to the Go gos

Stark 3 bra pop album!

Cool and disco style

Average. Did not excite.

Not too bad. Couple hits in here. Beginning of girl punk? i like it.

3 Stars - Pretty good considering the album's I've heard lately on this list. Not my genre of choice, but getting better! Can't lie... "We got the beat" is a classic good tune!

Fine pop, but there are a lot of better options at least this album was groovy

Pretty good

the jangles

AJ: pop rocks!

Ha ha ha… Skidmarks on my heart ;-) I really enjoyed this album and am so glad for this challenge as don't think they would have found their way onto my radar without it! ...Skidmarks on my heart You can hear Belinda Carlisle trying to break free! I think ill have a listen to some of their other stuff, when this challenge is over.

80’s paradise

Not bad

It’s Belinda! Post-punky pop. Some great choruses and bass lines in particular. LA surf rock moments. Occasionally sound like REM, especially the last song. Enjoyable.

Fun album, but not going to go back to it most likely

An enjoyable debut new-wave album. Don’t have too much to say. There’s hits and misses

all new wave sounds the same. but the smiths do it better.

Fun, good music to listen to while your train gets consistently delayed over and over. Kept me sane. 3.5/5

Pretty diverse I only knew we got the beat, but liked This Town. Some early rock / rock influences, best New wave I've heard on this list so far

Really good but it starts to blend together after repeat listens. Shoutout all women.

50s-by-way-of-80s new wave pop. Consistent throughout and it's a lot of fun.

Favorite Songs: Our Lips Are Sealed We Got The Beat Fading Fast Quite a good album. Cheery tunes and an interesting pop.

My first intro to The Go-Go's, they have a special place in music history. Learning about their place in new wave speak volumes to their influence! Favorite track: Skidmarks On My Heart

A solid carrier of the fun and personal side of punk at an ebbing moment guy for the genre in the 80s. Sounds almost as much like surf or the B-52s at times as it does the Ramones. Good songwriting, very good vocals (nice harmony work) and solid playing throughout -- especially Gina Schock on drums and Kathy Valentine on bass, providing the heart and backbone of this band. Not an album that blew me away, but certainly one that I enjoyed and one that I'm sure got plenty of kids -- especially girls -- starting bands of their own. That's a legacy worth honoring with a listen. Standout tracks are the singles (Our Lips Are Sealed and the evergreen We Got The Beat) and Can't Stop The World. The Go-Go's might not become your favourite band but don't skip this one!

The whole album sort of sounds the same. Good vibes but repetitive.

Decent stuff, I liked automatic which I'd never heard before. Wouldn't put this on if I had aux though, just not quite there

Solid album, way better than that other whore. Couple hood classics in here. I wish the rating were out of 10 stars, this would probably be a 5 for me.

OK, nothing especially memorable outside the hits, and they didn't get enough of a reaction to get tagged for a playlist

A couple of excellent tracks, the rest were fairly average. As with a lot of previous reviews, this really isn't my preferred genre. My rating system governs that this should be 2 or 3 stars. Let's go with 3 because I knocked one out over a picture of Belinda Carlisle many years ago.

It's ok

Really fun rock album that keeps up the pace and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Three and a half. Fave track: Lust to Love

Driving pop beats. It's ok.

Album was fun, catchy and recognizable.

3.08 average per track. Enjoyed this more that I thought I would.

3 y medio. Medio ladilla, algunos catchy.

New wave is dé sound dankzij Blondie. Deze dertiger waant zich even een Amerikaanse tiener jock, vooral dankzij Our Lips Are Sealed, Tonite en vooral We Got The Beat. Even afdwalen, mag het? "Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth? Ooh, Heaven is a place on Earth!"

Catchy and playful. Don't think I was in the mood for this today, but I could see getting into it more when the vibe is right

Didn’t love it. Reminds me of a razor commercial.

This is a good pop rock album, even if it doesn't really speak to me that much personally. I enjoy the hits a lot and a few of the other tracks but I think it would be pretty easy for me to have this one on in the background and not really be drawn to check what any specific track is called. It's never bad, just kind of right down the middle for me. They're a cool band though. Standout Tracks: Our Lips Are Sealed, How Much More, We Got the Beat, Can't Stop the World

Felt neutral about it

Repetitive, no edges

I didnt expect it to be so good

Sounds good but a little repetitive between songs.

Pretty fun

I really enjoyed the upbeat vibe of this album. Not really an album you can listen to as a relaxing unwind album but it was fun. That's all I can really say about this album though it wasn't groundbreaking just fun. Very much had an 80s vibe but again that's not a complaint in anyway. Stand out songs: Our Lips Are Sealed.

A fun upbeat album, the overall theme got abit stale towards the end, however. Nonetheless, a good listen.

Interesting album. I had to look up some of the history because the sound felt a bit wild. Not surprised to hear it was the newer part of a movement since it sounded inventive but not overly flushed out. I didn't dislike it but don't feel as impressed as I probably should. Glad to listen to it but probably not coming back for more

After listening to this I don't think I can remember the melody from any songs, but I liked listening to every one. This band has a nice style and all the instruments sound good. Letting all the instruments sound like themselves (esp. the prominent bass guitar) makes this good, where it'd probably be dull if that stuff was mushed together like other pop rock. I didn't know much of this band and my day is a little better for having listened to this. music: appreciated. (⌐o_0)

This was a lot cooler than I thought it was going to be.

A relatively short outing. I think I liked it more than I expected to. I think this record has had more influence on Australian indie rock than I would have expected given there's a lot of bands getting play on JJJ that sound like this.

Don’t hate it. Probably won’t listen to it again.

I can see how they influenced music in the future but I suppose it's too antiquated for my tastes. Gave it a listen and enjoyed it, but didn't really dig it.

This is truly excellent pop music! Very decent indeed!

Too sugary for my taste, but I remember this era.

Classic 80s pop sound and enthusiasm. I picture an actual music video playing along.
