Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Bizarre and pretty disappointing compared to what I hoped it would be

Another one that's not really my cuppa

Not normally a fan of this genre but found this quite fun. Probably wouldn't listen again though so it only gets a 2

Ok 2/5

I mean it’s good for what it is. Definitely decent variety on this album.’ Genre is not for me.

Not my cup of tea!

Meh, sounded like pretty generic hip-hop. Wasn't a fan.

2 or 3 stand out tracks and a lot of innovation does not make a great record, but I think Andre 3000 is a great talent who has gotten better with age - their great tracks are indeed great, but the rest I would chuck. Lots of fast talking vulgarity I can certainly do without.

Not for me

2 out of 5. Better than their double album that came up earlier in this challenge.

This was not as bad as I was expecting. I didn't get through this whole album, but my backlog is getting extensive. Time to move on

I don’t know what I’ve just listened too. I know I don’t like it, but it’s definitely interesting. I’ve a grudging appreciation of Ms Jackson too. The whole thing is quite unlike anything else, which is great butI can’t imagine listening to it out of choice.

Off the cuff remark: following on from A Tribe Called Quest, (our last album) this is a good comparison. I confess I didn't listen to the whole album: Musically it's tedious, the macho posturing is annoying and... well it's boring.

Bloated, tons of overrated tunes on this one too 1.5/5

I wanted to like this one. I did not. 2/5

I wanted to like this, but its not doing it for me

not my thing. I didn't enjoy very much of this record at all. It's noisy, hectic overproduced hip-hop beats and occasional rapping. The lyrics generally aren't catchy and it just sounds like they're trying to overwhelm the listener until they dance. I do give it an extra "star" for it's legacy and influence, regardless of my personal tastes

I was not previously familiar with this album although I did recognize the song So Fresh, So Clean. That track was probably the standout for me. While I did appreciate the variety of sounds included here, this is not something I would listen to again.

Weno, esta divertido

I didn't miss a thing. I don't see the appeal in this. But I am not into Hip Hop, so I am possibly just ignorant.

Tried to rip the rubber off with her pussy muscles…bars I guess.

a very ordinary album, that goes on for far too long. 73 minutes of standard-issue hip hop, with skits.

Sorry Ms Jackson, but you added only 1 star to my review

Não faz meu estilo

Love Ms Jackson. Appreciate the experimentation. Not my cup of tea though

Recht melodischer Rap. Ms Jackson ist bekannt. 2/5

Great in high school. Doesn’t hold up over time

The album is front heavy with great songs, Gasoline Dreams, Ms Jackson & So Fresh, So Clean but other than BOB, the rest of the album feels like a parody of the great songs

boring

Not in my favourites.

Did not vibe

I just don't really get Outkast. No issue with the rapping/lyrics, I just don't really love the beats/production. It's not them, it's me I guess.

Honestly, this left me cold. Ms Jackson is a ripping song but there was very little else to recommend the album to me.

Disappointing. I always thought, with how prestigious this album is, that it would genuinely be something more than just another hip-hop album. The skits in this one are particularly outdated and embarrassing to listen to.

Know the artist, blind album but know the hits. Meh tbh. I understand why this album is prominent, but it ain't for me. Album dragged so hard at the end.

Listened, but did not enjoy. There were one or two tracks that I was familiar, appreciate the role they've played in the history of hip hop, not my thing.

Better than I expected. Besides the awful Singles, It has some nice tunes, but overall it has too many tracks and is very polished and produced to hit the charts. Fav: B.O.B.

just think I don't really like outkast. a lot of songs on this album. the singles were okay, but I had to skip a lot of the other ones.

Some great tunes and beats, but then there are those lyrics, and I'm done with that sh*t.

I like the range of influences they incorporated into their music but hip hop as a genre just never seems to click with me. I think this would have left a better impression if they got rid of the skits and some of the tracks in the second half.

Disappointing.

Not my kind of hip hop

Little too rappy for me.

It features a couple of classic tracks, but also includes too much filler and nonsense. And also, rap music sucks, and so does Atlanta.

A cool record but it could really skip 10 of the tracks

joke song intro???? or is this gonna be the vibe of the whole album????????? dayum i really didnt know i liked electric organ so much? or whatever the synth is in fresh and clean lol ahhh i've heard of Ms. Jackson before love the squeeb squeebs in snappin & trappin..... bit too horny for me??? but i dont think id complain if someone at the function wanted to put some of these songs on

I thought this was overrated back in the day and I was correct.

Mid. The skits get obnoxious. 2.5 stars

Somehow i can't get the grip of this album. It's probably technically competent, but somehow clinical and lacking edge.

Having only heard Hey Ya this is definitely not what I was expecting. It's fine but nothing special. I kinda like the "break!" throughout the album. 2/5 stars.

I did not enjoy this Album.

Couple of epic hits with Sorry Miss Jackson, BoB, and So Fresh and So Clean. Gasoline Dreams is really good too. After that it tapers off a bit and not as revolutionary as SpeakerBox/Love Below.

# Album Name: Stankonia # Artist: Outkast # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: 3-4 good tunes surrounded by too much crap. Too many interludes. Too many songs. The good songs are very good too. Its a shame. # Top Tunes: Gas dreams / so fresh and so clean / Ms jackson / BOB # Would I listen to it again? No - just the singles.

I find this quite annoying. Ms jackson slaps tho

No es mi estilo.

Not as good as Speakerboxxx / The Love Below, but not totally unenjoyable

Not my interest.

Not really my jam.

Did not like. Mid production with mid to bad songs. If you told me this was from some random forgotten band from the 2000s I would believe you. Sorry Ms. Jackson. 5/10

I actually disliked this one more so than I did the Biggie album... On the *RTD* it really was the message and the tone made me feel uncomfortable, but overall the production and his style of rapping I really dug. This however for the most part I really just did not like it. When it got more R&B bassed I liked it a lot... I'm guessing that's the 3000 effect, I reall liked it. So Fresh So Clean, Ms. Jackson, B.O.B. A few other. But definitely Snappin' & Trappin', I'll Call B4 I Cum I just plain disliked to no end. This also had so many skits that just felt more like filler than telling the story... Plus thus album felt longer than hell, but I was checking to see how much I had left about half way through... I didn't even do that for Biggie which was only ten min shorter. 4.5 ★★

B.o.b I liked and liked the poetry of a couple of the songs. Appreciated some of the funk. But the rest… meh… couldn’t wait for the album to end

I can appreciate it, but it really didn't do anything for me. I found it too zany

Nope, this one is not for me. Didn’t make it half way through. I am sure other people will love it though. Ms Jackson is good though. 🤪

Not my favorite but can see plenty of stuff on here that makes it essential for people.

It's OutKast. They're weird. But in a good way. You'll get filthy songs, and then you'll get earworms Ms. Jackson that you can't help but bop too. Overall, not my kind of sound, but I've always dug Ms Jackson. And I'm not even nasty! I'll add that to the playlist. Overall, about a 2 star album

Sounds like all other outkast tracks...nothing sticks in my head

Not my fav tbh but cool interlude concept and maybe im just not a huge fan of rap… but Ms Jackson a banger

Main complaint is the length and it’s meh

just don't understand the appeal-lyrics that demean & degrade. and there's a whole lot of it on this long listen.

Parts are great...

Not bad, not really my cup of tea but it did ok. Pretty chilled generally with some good rapping. Enjoyed but wouldn't listen again particularly

Ms Jackson is ok

Hey I knew some of these

Classic but also very old and not my taste

few hits

No thanks

This seems to me to be just another hiphop/rap album, with little to distinguish it from other such albums on this list. Also the album is far too long.

this one will definitely be a new one for me. Ms. Jackson is so good. I like this more than I thought I would.

This was different than I thought it would be. Their singles really were the best ones huh. I’m not a fan of interludes.

Better than I thought it would be. (2.2). Quite an eclectic album. Could have done without the little interludes.

Bloated, inconsistent and middling. While the highs of Ms Jackson, Red Velvet and So Fresh, So Clean are enough to keep you engaged for 3 minutes at a time, there is a lot on here which simply doesn't. Do enjoy the wide range of features on this though. Best Tracks: - Ms Jackson - So Fresh, So Clean - Red Velvet Worst Tracks: - Gangsta Sh*t - Stankonia Rating: 5/10

It's like ok. They were definitely visionaries and included a lot of fun musical elements and funky vibes but it just didn't resonate with me. I feel like some of the lyrics are too forced. Swore there was a ghost wailing during "Red Velvet".

Too much jank

Side two was absolutely more my speed than side one, and I really feel like Childish Gambino was influenced by this record. However, the couple of hits are strong ones on here, but most of the record doesn’t click with me.

It was just a noise to me. I didn’t get it

Not a rap fan.

I appreciate the rhythms but this music doesn’t speak to me.

Sorry Miss Jackson was the first song I ever illegally downloaded on Napster. Some nostalgia value. Not a genre I love though. I'm getting tired again of the non stop sausage fest. Two Outkast albums but where's Aaliyah? (She's not on the list). I know the album isn't 'best albums' so would it kill them to include important albums like, for example - Spice Girls?

Not really my jam. I can see why this album is rated highly, but it's just not for me.

I was going to write this off completely until B.O.B. came on. Miss Jackson is a good track but not enough to carry an album, and most of the other lead-in tracks are a bit rubbish, with too many interludes. A few OK ones after that, but then it trailed off again. Skip, skip, skip Best: B.O.B., Miss Jackson Worst: Red Velvet, Gangsta Shit, Toilet Tisha

Standouts: So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson B.O.B - Bombs Over Baghdad

This album is very inconsistent and borderline chaotic. The three well-known tracks are stone cold hits but the rest of it stannnks. It's front loaded and runs on too long, the interludes are trash, and there's a few tracks (like "Snappin & Trappin" and "Humble Mumble") that are pure garbagio. How do you even mess up a song with Eryka Badu? ::Yowsky-wowsky:: It seems like they were trying to explore very creative avenues and I'm a big fan of Andre 3000 but a lot of this felt like a waste of time. I'm not all aboard the Stankonia Express. 1.95 for the low-slung funk.

This album sure puts the stank on ya. Other than the three hit singles...it stanks. I bought this album when it was released because "B.O.B", "Ms. Jackson", and "So Fresh, So Clean" are just that...the bomb and fresh. I mean check the back of your zipper! Figured there had to be other goods on it but they should be apologizing to Ms. Jackson for taking a dump. The rest of the album is trash. I think pulling in local rappers from the ATL area is great...if they were actually good! What a let down here from the duo and I can't agree with the critics on praising their exploration and pushing hip-hop out of the norms. Lucky the hits are strong enough to give this album 1.9 stanky stars.

While this album has some songs that are absolute bangers, there are several songs that are middle of the road at best. The songs that bring attention to social issues I do like, but some of the others are meh.

liked songs: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad, ? There was a wide range on this album. The songs I liked are OutKast at the top of their game. Some of the others... We Luv Deez Hoez absolutely blows. I actually liked the Interludes on this album. BREAK 2.5

I guess I don't like OutKast that much, 2.5

not my cup of tea

A few huge hits can’t save this one for me. 2.25

It’s not for me… Ms Jackson and one or two other songs can do, but I get tired of listening pretty quickly. This was a chore to get through. And spare me from the skits. I do like their voices though

one hit Wonder. rate 2

With the exception of Ms Jackson and B.O.B., I found this album boring and laborious to listen to. It's weird because years ago I bought the speakerboxxx album, but haven't listened to it in an age. I wonder if it's just a much better album, or whether my taste has changed so much that I would find that album as full as this one today. I believe it may show up on this project, so I'll wait and then listen to find out.

This was an absolute chore to get through.

I was just thinking that these Sky reviews are too long. I’m usually working when I write these. With my full attention, I am yapping about every note. With this fucker being 73 god damn minutes, I can’t imagine the trend stopping now. I’ve only really listened to the first OutKast album and been subjected to the hits over the years, so I’m interested to see if this one hits the ears like most 2000s era rap. Cyber sex noises to start, hooray. Oh HELL YEAH. Driving, modern, angry. Beautiful. The beat is so odd and surrounded by a bunch of interesting sounds that add depth to an already excellent track. Perfect start. Well, the feature is mid, but the song itself brings exactly what you’d want from an opener. I can’t talk about every interlude. If you, a die hard, uhh “my reviews” reader wish to follow along (I know how popular that is), assume I skip them. Or use your critical thinking, whatever. This song was in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 I think. Played the shit out of that on my Grandpa’s PC. Gotta play video games when you can, even if you’re listening to OutKast while triple bogeying at St. Andrew’s as a confused pre teen playing as Ernie Els. Try to be more dope than that, Andre. Was this song actually in that game? Who cares. It’s not very good. The sign they is. Don’t besmirch the golf games. This song probably has a billion plays. I can’t see because I’m in the sky, but yeah it’s Ms. Jackson (you following along??? Easy. right, gang?) meh. I feel like this is why I never really gave OutKast a chance. I felt like this would be the best of a mid bunch. I always got the vibe that as OutKast went on, they thrived on being different rather than producing good music that is different. Perfect Apple commercial stuff. Anyway, this song is alright. Apologies to Ms. Jackson, Andre and of course, Big Boi; if that is your real name. I’m sorry Big Boi, I am for real. Let’s get Killer Mike in here, and see what he has to say. Instant Sgt. Slaughter reference. This is what we needed. Meh. It tails off from there. This is going to be so bloated I can tell. Tooooo long on every idea. Now. Be careful. I could be referring to the interlude here (I’m not) but THIS song starts off with a real rap beat, and I’m afraid. I want poetic pomp and circumstance Andre. Now, guess what, I don’t think you’re an intellectual. Sorry pal. If I can enjoy it, it means you’re dumb, and now I’m dumb for enjoying it. We are valueless together. Nice to hear an honest to goodness rap song. A Run-DMC reference and everything. Send back my nonexistent MENSA membership. I am simply a passenger on a boat guided by the beat. Gross song title, following a sort of funny interlude, and when I say “sort of funny,” I mean not very funny in content but in its back and forth which was decently edited. We haven’t heard much from Gangsta Boo since this feature. Maybe that’s for the best. Is this what the B.O.B of Airplanes fame is named after? Remember that guy?? Amazing what the mind can unearth. Anyway, a super frantic and odd song that feels like a protest. I’d have to dig into it further, but I like it. I feel like Andre 3000 can have such an excellent flow when given the chance. When he wants to just rap over a huge beat, it’s electric. Over used word but losers on the internet now, but it is a good way to describe how he accompanies the beat. This beat is a Transylvanian organ passage over pounding hip hop bass and percussion. Hey. Even “B-Real” is fine. Am I allowed to listen to so many bomb themed songs on this flight. I might get a cease and desist. Backbone and Big Gipp on the same track. Is it Christmas? In a response to the Dogg Pound, OutKast asserts that they indeed, love the hoes that went unloved by snoop and his titular crew. Is he saying “fake eyes” in the chorus? Backbone AND/OR Big Gipp love women with glass eyes, spread the word. Blessings up for the early onset blindness community. Man the turbulence is heavy. Hope this doesn’t read as some sort of final journal. Uhh. If I go down listening to a bad bling era hip hop Mambo song, I anticipate some BIG reparations in the afterlife. In the wise words of Andre 3000 (the most advanced Andre to date) “Fuck it, we chicken nugget.” This sucks. Pour me another drink of non-alcoholic caffeine sludge please. Whatever variety you have. Use your imagination. I think if you threw MC Ride over this song, it would be sick. For now, it’s fine. This could’ve been cut so hard. Next. Stop screaming “Break” at me. At this point I feel like I’m in some CTE dream. Or is it a RAP fanatic’s dream as the fates have assembled th household names of TMO, C-Bone AND the fabled Slimm Calhoun in one place. I am reaching my “breaking” point. This is indeed “Gangsta Shit.” Emphasis on Shit. Why must everything be toilet or stench related on this album? This sounds like something that music nerds would lose their collective mind over. My mind is firmly here, although wishing it could escape from this space toilet song with the scream cry outro. Two to go. Let’s try to economize words. I wish a producer or somebody interpreted and said “hey Mr. OutKast, maybe this is two albums” OR even better make this one album and then cut this piss poor second half. Oh Cee-Lo. Fuck you. It’s ok. He gets it. Open up your flower? Alright wrap this up. This is revolting. A 7 minute song about sex from the perspective of what appears to be several levherous weirdos who fancy themselves poets. This is an album with 12 extra songs attached to it. I don’t listen to extended versions for this endeavour and I couldn’t fathom that this was the actual album. I made sure it was right before and I SUFFERED through much of the back half. Any ideas that were good (and there were plenty) were absolutely mined dry by the time this thing crawled to the final seconds of its 73 minute run time. An interesting album with a few good songs that completely wore out its welcome and confirmed much of what I thought to be true of OutKast coming into this review. This is bloated and overbearing but somehow intriguing enough not to plunge down into the ones. Bad, but redeemable is the verdict as I can finally rest my beleaguered fingers. Stink, Stank, Stunk. 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Gasoline Dreams, Spaghetti Junction, B.O.B. Bombs Over Baghdad, Xplosion

Childish bs, I just can't with this kinda shit. Smh, gets a 2 because there's at least one decent song that doesn't want to make me stab myself in the ears

Listened to this one right after a Pharcyde album and honestly the Pharcyde sound just matches my vibe much better. I like this style of rap, but something about Outkast throws me off a bit. A perfect 5/10 album in my mind

Supposedly one of the greatest rap albums ever; however, following Zeppelin, it showed a lack of rhythm, and its energy was too monotone.

Some classic tracks on there, but "regarded by many to be one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time" ? For that to be the case, virtually every track would need to be exceptional. I did not find that to be the case. 2.5*

This isn't really my thing, it didn't grab my attention.

I wanted more from this. It was fine but grating. There are better albums in the genre.

I'd hoped that Outkast might be one of those hip-hop acts that would offer something a bit more than the usual stuff... And they do... But not enough

Not for me

Not bad - think it came out in a period when I didn’t get it - not the worst thing so far

Not my cup of tea musically but I do like Ms Jackson

1001 Albums #8 (65/100) some highs and some lows can definitely tell it was made in the 2000s, started pretty good but i got kind of bored of it about halfway through Least favourite: snappin' and trappin'

Didn't really like it.

Yeh my son helped me listen to them, oh well 2 stars

I don't get these guys, I love "Ms. Jackson" but their style, beats and vocal staccato isn't my kind of hip hop. It may be the pitch of his voice or the rapid delivery but it makes me reach for the FF button. The album instantly sounds dated, it hasn't aged well, all the Interlude stuff just gets in the way. I enjoyed "Ms. Jackson & "I'll Call..." but otherwise it was repetitive and rapid fire and I just don't love the sound & I'd never put it on and play it in it's entirety, that makes it unworthy of the 1001. I'd give it a solid 2.5 stars.

It's offensive how talented these guys obviously are but how much absolute filler shite they packed into this album

Motherfucking tedious at times. Some of the motherfucking tunes weren’t so bad, but the motherfucking skits can get motherfucking boring especially the motherfucking one where someone called other motherfucking people morherfuckers for motherfucking ages. Not terrible, but really not my thing either

Not my sort of music. Couple of catchy tunes but ultimately not one that I’d come back to.

yeah ok,

Some fun tracks. The best Hip Hop album ever? Nah.

Rap music is not what I listen to so that affects the overall rating. But the album had good songs and I liked the idea of the shorter interlude songs and they made the listening not feel a slog.

I wish there was more singing. I kinda liked B.O.B. though. I has a good rhythm.

It’s not my normal music style, but some of the songs were fun. I had really only ever heard ms. Jackson before

I was not a big fan of this one. Really didn't like the interludes, felt too much like filler BOB is great, though.

I went into this album expecting great things, and was left sorely disappointed. Man, what the fuck is this thing so long for? Like three of the songs are actually good, the rest is filler or stupid skits that got old after the second skit. The hit singles on the album that I need not name are great songs, of course, which spares this album of a 1. This album is trash, I always thought Outkast was overrated, and was hoping to be proven wrong, but sorely I was right. This record has no reason to be 73 minutes of boring filler, good lord.

not 4 me

I'm sorry miss Jackson is a must, everything else is for genre lovers

Ms. Jackson, and the rest.

how is this music lol

not my kind of music, "So Fresh, So Clean" was good though

I did not like this album. It's one of those quantity over quality albums. The first couple of tracks are okay, but the rest... its just all blends together.

3 good songs, 21 mediocre/filler tracks. Not a great ratio.

Ugh, it's fine. It does that hip-hop thing of interspersing corny skits and self-important tracks that think they're saying something deep. But it's got some catchy beats. Too many tracks, though at least most of them are pretty short.

Ok but i wont listen again.

Not my cup of tea but BOB and Sorry Ms Jackson brought it up, both tooooons

A few songs have guitars and are interesting, though overall I'm not a fan.

Non nelle mie corde

This album was quite long and is not my cup of tea.

opzich wel oke

# 276 : I don't love it, I don't hate it, I can listen to it, a couple of things stood out, but Raps just not my thing… Favourite track ; Ms Jackson

I knew a couple of tracks but didn't enjoy this apart from a few of the hits. The interludes adding nothing apart from some low key porn. A bit of funky bass going on but little else musically inspiring.

Ooof. The misogyny and Anne Frank line did not age well. I am for real.

I really don’t even know what I listened to. Ms. Jackson appeared in there somewhere but the rest is largely a blur. I know OutKast has a history of making profound social statements and commentary in their music, and I know they’re widely regarded as one of the better hip hop groups of the last 25 or so years. But I really just didn’t get this. Whatever the messages were that were being sent through this album were completely and utterly lost on me through its confusing and at times bizarre arrangements, it’s sometimes seemingly non-sensical lyrics, and its constant interludes. Without a doubt I missed the point of this album. And when I know I’ve missed the point I will defer to the what I assume the general opinion on it is and give it three stars. But I can’t do that here. I really didn’t have a good enough time with this to give it the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure the messages are there, but the package in which they are delivered clouds them and makes it easy to lose interest, quickly. It hurts me to say, but two stars. Standout Tracks: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B - Bombs Over Baghdad, Xplosion

I am perfectly able to admit something is good and well crafted, but it isn't to my taste. Stankonia is that.

3/10 - The songs are quite strange to be honest. The lyrics are kind of crazy. I think I call b4 I cum is a clear example of this idea. Toilet tisha was not a banger. It was not great overall, but there were some times that I sort of enjoyed. Do not think I will revisit this one

Listened to it previously, wasn’t my cup of tea

not my cupa tea

Didn't think this was anywhere near the same standards set by Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The beats were annoying at times and the verses felt rushed and out of place.

The most overrated band in hip hop? Eeeeeh it’s fiiine. Another hip hop album that sits in that not quite main stream, not quite underground netherland.

Disclaimer: I am not the fan of Hip-Hop. So Fresh, So Clean into Ms. Jackson is the obvious highlight of the album. A huge peak among a lot of very average and similar sounding filler tracks and interludes - many of which should've been removed or released as B-Sides or bonus tracks later on if they were desperate for money. Any album over an hour needs to offer more variety.

Meh...

⭐️ms Jackson, gasoline dreams, so fresh so clean 🫤 call b4 I cum, xplosion, we love deez hoez Too often annoyingly repetitive, some highlights, mostly meh.

Another album you bought (pre-Ipod days) just for that one track. Because the rest of it is nutso nonsense.

Didn't appeal. There's definitely some musicality in there, though.

Had higher expectations as there are very recognizable songs here. Nope.

They are good but not my jam.

I feel bad rating this low cause I know genre wise it’s probably brilliant but it’s just not the sort of thing I enjoy listening to!

Melodies are good, there other stuff I can't get on board with.

R n B not my thang

An ok album not sure if it should be on the list

My first impression of the opening is that it's a ripoff of P-Funk's Mother ship. This isn't what I'd typically listen to, and I suspect it's really good if this is what you listen to. It's just not something that I'd take time out of MY day to, although I'm obviously taking time out of my day right now. Recognizing that MFs are required for this genre, I get turned off by lyrics like "my dick in her mouth." ⭐⭐ ________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 51 🎧 LPs left to review: 950 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 11 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 17 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 14

Really not my thing

Some high notes but nothing outside of the usual paradigm.

Not for me.

I can appreciate the musical talent here but (most of) the lyrics on this album are not my thing.

I really tried to like this album, but could not. If this is one of the most influential rap albums, I can only imagine the genre would be much better if this album didn’t exist.

Some good songs, didn't need to be that long.

Moments of brilliance with a whole lot of not much worthwhile in between. …..

I have said it before and I will say it again there is no need for intros for an album just get on with the music. Also why do they keep having interludes after every couple of songs. It breaks it up and it's totally unnecessary, and in all honestly annoyed me. They could have save nearly five minutes removing this shit from the album. There are only 2 songs on here that I might go and listen to again. Miss Jackson and B.O.B. and they are probably the reason why this isn't a 1 star review.

Becoming a parent has definitely made me old and curmudgeonly. I liked Bombs Over Baghdad, but in general I just can't do all the cursing and bad language anymore.

I bet if he tried he could say "motherfucker" a few more times and really spice this up

Too long, 1 song out 3 is listenable. Too much layers, and samples, and odd talking.

Outlandish lyrics. Has bombs over Baghdad which is catchy but rest of album was mediocre

Nice catchy hip-hop, but it was too long and got tiring. Stand-out: B.O.B.

Mostly unenjoyable. The album is waay too long. There are some fun moments, interesting production and decent flow at times. The skits got me too. Most of the tracks overstay their welcome with the same hook. The idea of being a concept album is all over the gaff as well. Pretty unimpressed.

Not fair for me to review but I tried to listen...no fan of the genre

Yet another hip-hop album!

Honestly, this was kind of aggressive. Not my favorite type of rap. Obviously there are some classics, although I will always skip Ms. Jackson now because it went viral on tiktok and I heard it too many times.

Not my thing, nothing really stood out here

Apart from the singles everyone knows and loves the ones ones were too original for me

So the surprise moment for me was figuring out the lead singer was Jeremiah Mercer in the movie Four Brothers. Four Brothers is a good movie. Shout out to Detroit! Do yourself a favor and check out the soundtrack too. It's a solid 5 with songs by Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Temptations and the Jackson 5. This album here.....well, not really anything I enjoyed. Way too long and nothing capture my interest. Have heard the Miss Jackson song, but, yea, just not for me. In conclusion, soundtrack from Four Brothers = 5. This album here = 2 2

...kept waiting for " Hey Ya"

I can see why they had to apologise to Ms Jackson - their language is appalling. Really hard work explaining those words to the kids in the car. They only knew 3 or 4 of them already. 2.4

Achei q era mais pop, mas é rap!

It was fine

the album with ms jackson on it and like 25 other songs

Not for me this, generally agree that the better tracks contain the rapping, which is generally of good value.

Sorry, even beside the slang not my style of music

Not my cup of tea

Way too many skits and only a couple of decent songs. Not sure what the hype was about this album.

I like the vibe. Can’t deny the beat. The words. It’s a world I don’t know, of course, as a 63-year-old white woman. I don’t know how they write like that. It is raw and real and creative. It’s not the best music for me to get my connections puzzle done early in the morning. 😂 It started to wear on me after a while. Probably would be better to listen when I’m doing something like cleaning the house or cooking.

Not my kind of music.

Meh. didn't really do anything for me.

Only know a couple of their songs, obvious bangers though. Pretty catchy album, just too long for me. Not got time for that. Good album though, enjoying it.

hell yea im vibin and im stanky gets kinda aggressive against women :v overall too stinky

Not as harsh as i expected. Love the mild musical style and some melodic vocal lines, rap is still not really for me

not for me

I can appreciate the art, but just not my thing. I like the few songs that were big hits.

Scott Kelly's wet dream

Odd album but of it’s time I guess!

Pas mon truc. Trop long, trop d'interludes blagues.

I've got a feeling I'm in the minority here but: Underwhelming. It was a light listen and really not my thing - bearing in mind I loved the Pharcyde album on this list and do enjoy a lot of hip hop. I just found this to be a pretty uninspiring listen that, to my non-expert ear, didn't trigger any particular excitement. I'll not labour the point as I reckon I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to the significance of this album.

Too long. Too many shit skits and interludes. Some filler tracks. Stupid misogyny. Overwise really good. (Lol) /s

Some songs too long drawn out. A mishmash of some soulful/poppy songs while on the other hand there's some bad hiphop/rap songs.

didn't care for most of it besides so fresh, so clean and ms. jackson

Not my style I suppose.

Nothing stood out, overall okay, couple of nice hooks. Significant 18/49 Liked 7/49 Added 1/49 No, no, no

Not a fan really not I do enjoy the song Ms. Jackson.

Will someone in hip-hop puh-lease resort to something other than calling women names? Or using their moans for dramatic effect, for that matter? Music's great, some lyrics are super deep, HATE the misogyny throughout.

Pretty fun but very long. It's interesting how rap flows evolve over time. You can definitely tell a 2000s rap flow from older and newer eras. Pretty sure this album was huge at the time. Miss Jackson is iconic of course. Killer Mike of Run the Jewels is on here. Not sure why this thing is so long though.

Well, I'm glad that's over.

Pardon André

Great music, just not really my style.

Not an album I would normally listen to, but I recognize its importance in bringing southern rap to the front and center. I respect its influence but will most likely not listen again.

It was alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, al- oh, different album.

Crisply produced and weirdly funky as fuck but sometimes... it's just lil a bit too much.

I got bored

frantic

Ms. Jackson Bombs over Baghdad Xplosion

Did nothing for me. Last song was ok.

Some bangers back in the day , Sorry miss Jackson and bombs over Baghdad were everywhere .

A few really good tracks, but a lot of the rest is just generic hip-hop / r&b to my ears

Not my taste.

maaaannnn some of the most iconic songs from the year 2000… but then there are the horrendous and misogynistic skits (why did 90s and 00s rappers think skits were cool?)… man, i love me some andre, but big boi is just a pigheaded idiot. oh well. production is pretty engaging and unique for the time period. behind the times on lyrics, however. oh, well.

A couple of good tracks but overall came across as badly produced and very poorly mastered. The album was not coherently put together either, it felt like it was made up of remnants of several projects with conflicting visions of what it should be or just made with no overall vision of what they wanted to achieve.

There is some good stuff on here (Ms Jackson, B.O.B) but there are too many skits and interludes on top of the rest of the material being extremely uneven. It's all over the place.

Twenty four tracks – I made it all the way through to the end as well. It was decent, but I wouldn’t line up a second sitting. Albums should be forty minutes, max. There’s a light tough to the production. It didn’t feel like I was being lectured. Some pretty cool turntablist action as well.

I only knew OutKast from that mashup of Hey Ya and a Charlie Brown Christmas video, but I liked that song and had high hopes for this. Nope, just another n-word, m-f laden, moronic skit having, sexually explicit rap album. Giving this a 2/5 like most of the others because of the decent beats and music. And no, I don't want to know about some gangsta sh*t, so please stop asking.

Boring

Just wasn’t for me, man.

Not clicking for me – the bars and overall lyricism feels too lackadaisical and repetitive to warrant attention, and the beats feel uninspired and generic. Some fun moments of wordplay or comedy here or there, but most of the LP feels like it's trying too hard to ape the 90s' hip-hop greats without adding any noticeable identity on top.

eh not my thing

Not the best music I have listened to. The us was classified as hip-hop was close to rap but would give it a little bit more credit.

I tried. I really did.

not impressive

Wasn’t really huge on this but I may not have been in the mood for this.

Long and, though not dull, never hits any giddy heights. The rap ryhthm never quite sits comofrtably with me, the words never quite hit right or say enough, the beats are never quite as gutsy or powerful as I'd like and the hooks are tame. All in all a perfectly fine album but I wanted a little more

Eh, it's not bad, but it feels like a lot of other hip-hop from the time. Not a style I can say I'm a massive fan of.

This album is much longer than it should have been. A couple of the funky songs are good. The more hardcore songs are not very good and sound outdated. Too much filler in between. Favorite song: Bombs Over Baghdad.

Surprisingly after enjoying the majority of hip hop assigned so far, found this incredibly meh

Why did this have to be 75 minutes long? I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it weren't so damn long.

Yeah, no. I just don't like rap. I did like the first track and thought this might be an exception. And indeed, the instrumentation is actually pretty good (and varied too) across the entire album. But rap is still just annoying to me at least 90% of the time and I skipped most tracks half-way through. And I really hate whoever came up with the idea of putting all of these "intros" or "interludes" on rap albums.

This album is okay, dont have much to say about it. The beats are funky and memorable, and the lyrics have meaning behind them, telling a story with each song. I heard of some more popular songs like Ms. Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean.

Some great stuff here but suffers with ‘GnR Use Your Illusion syndrome’. Could have been a 4star 45min banger but instead it’s a 2star 75min drag.

I know these guys are hugely influential, but I’ve never really liked their stuff

I like the overall energy of OutKast, but it just goes on for too long.

The high energy is too exhausting for a 75 minute record. I prefer ATLiens and Aquemini.

"Who else but rap’s most fearlessly creative duo could open their biggest album with a bonfire of American dreams?" Fearlessly creative? I don't get it. There is nothing here that captured my attention for even a nanosecond. Maybe the creativity is all on Side B, but I could not listen long enough to find out.

A few hits that hit, like So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson. But overall, it is an unfortunate victim of its time - too many immature interludes and skits that are annoying to sit through.

Too many "b¡+€hez". Not enough niceties.

ok album

Good but I didn't enjoy it that much

boffffff

An eclectic behemoth of hip hop. When this is good, it's great, but there is just so much (too much) of it. I would have suggested picking the best 10 or 11 tracks. That would have been an ace album. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Ms. Jackson Date listened: 03/12/22

Ms. Jackson una joya. El resto meh

I wasn't in the right place for this today. Very little of it was appealing or even unappealing in an interesting way. To me. Today.

Imho, this didn't age that well in terms of sound.

Ms Jackson är ju bra i alla fall.

2 estrellas, yo creo.

Way too much bang average hip hop. Get An Editor!

It was fine. The hits were good but I think this is a bit advanced for my hip-hop tastes.

Disappointed

It was good for a hip hop album but I just cannot get into hip hop. There were a few good choruses sprinkled throughout but there was so much annoying rap you had to get through.

I never got the fuss over OutKast. I still don't.

I've heard better from OutKast, this has a few decent tracks, but a lot of it is pretty poor.

I don't love this album, but it has some good songs, and it's a good window into a life experience that isn't mine- namely being a Black man in Atlanta. 2.5

Listened Before? N These guys are OK. They have talent, but the sound is very dated now. If I were a previous fan I'd probably love it but never really got on board. Added to Library? N Song added to Playlist: Ms. Jackson

Listened to on 3/7/22 2.5/5 Favorite song: Ms Jackson & So Fresh, So Clean A vibe - not my vibe but a vibe

not my Jam

it was fine

Acabo cansando da sequencia de rap.

OutKast is a band that I want to like. The album sounds like OutKast. "B.O.B." is the track that I've heard off this album before. I think I tried to listen to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, but didn't enjoy that album either. OutKast are talented, but the music is not for me. I could not and would not want to sing along with most of the tracks. The multiple interludes on their own may have been enough to sink this album to 2 stars.
