Reviews (page 13 of 13)

Some of the songs are enjoyable

Not the music I'd usually listen to tbh. I honestly don't have much to say about this, I didn't really enjoy it.

Niet per se een fan, wel een fijne stem om naar de luisteren voor de verandering

had a hard time getting into this one

Çok benlik bir albüm değildi.

Meh. Beatles copium

taki wyczilowany nieprzeszkadzacz

Got up to girl Pausing here There was a time / something has been my favourite track so far Sounds all the same to me (untrained ear) which admittedly is naive to say. Not really something I’d normally listen to

Interesting, but just feels like a psych rock band of the 60s/70s similar to The Beatles. Worth a listen, but nothing particularly special in my opinion.

Another forgettable 70s psych rock album.

Some good but they're all quite repetitive and all sound very similar to each other.

Eh. I didn’t like this. A couple songs were alright. Is it supposed to be a rock opera?

Didn’t recognize this band name when I saw it. But I do know the song “Bang a Gong (Get It On).” Which is a fun song though the rest of the album was fairly dull.

Such a discrepancy between the heavy noise the cover promises and the chilled out woozy grooves of the music. It's a mellow sunny album with it's feet grounded in mid tempo blues guitar rock and it's head in the clouds of excursions into lush & orchestral blissed out psych. Never got the hype with TRex though, it's all very competent and there's nothing I actively dislike but it's pretty plodding and a bit boring.

Sounds like cheap trick

Fínt Rokk!! ... ekkert sem ég myndi hlusta á reglulega en bara alveg ágætt. Ekkert lag héðan sem stendur uppúr.

Oooh yeah, Glam Rock isnt really for me. Some of it sound alright though.

Meh. Bang a Gong was in constant rotation on every northern MI classic rock station, and the rest of the songs seem about the same. It's fine I guess, but I won't be listening again.

Nice mellow rhythm but the subdued vocals are not my jam. Maybe just a little too mellow for my taste

Didn't love this one. Pretty slow

Lighthearted and fun classic rock. Some of the songs were repetitive.

I think I get what this is going for but a lot of the tracks come off extremely boring. The singer is essentially whispering the entire time, and the band might as well be doing the same. It’s definitely going for the more spacy, sexy, thing, but it rarely hits for me. Bang a Gong, The Motivator, Lean Woman Blues, and Rip Off seem to have a bit more energy and carry the rest of this thing for me.

2.5 it exists

Kinda boring

boring

not my fav

Did this make the list because that one song is in all the car commercials?

Viel zu lahm

Narp. Just not a T-Rex fan. If you like his voice I’m sure you’ll like this album but it’s a bit too whiny for me.

Meh. Langweilig. War sicher mal toll, aber heute klingt's halt wie siebziger Jahre Gedengel.

Another of many on this list that is seemingly on the list for having 1 immensely popular song on it. But this isn't 1001 best singles you should hear before you die, it's 1001 albums, and as an album I found this lacking.

There's so many artists I like citing T. rex as a big influence. I don't get it though. It's mostly bland and without direction.

Not intolerable. But certainly uninspiring.

It starts out pretty good, actually. Marimba Sun is catchy and doesn't sound overtly 70s, and cosmic dancer also holds up pretty well. Then it just kind of gets...boring. The vocals get a little whiny on songs like Lean Woman Blues, which is itself just a cookie cutter bluesy rock song without any thing to set it apart. Bang a Gong is one of those songs I've heard in stoner movies my whole life. It's fine, I guess. Overall it's just an Ok, pretty forgettable album. Oddly, Jeepster isn't available in my country via Apple Music, but I was able to listen to it through YouTube without a problem. Apparently that's one of the biggest hits off this album but, frankly, it wasn't worth the effort it took to listen to it.

I mean, I guess it was better than the other T. Rex album, but that doesn't make it actually good. 2.5/5

Typischer Glam Rock.

2/5. Nothing sticks out on this album. They remind me a lot of the Black Keys, which is just not my style at all.

Honestly... I did not care for this album. In fact, at times, I found it kind of whiney. This is one of those albums where I hear people praising it. Those who love T. Rex fuckin' love T. Rex. And this album is supposed to be their best? I was left very disappointed. Bang A Gong? Classic! 5 gongs out of 5 gongs. For sure. The rest of the album? Boring. I did like the horns and brass parts on this album. Perhaps that was the best part of this album. I really wanted to like this album. Really really wanted to. But there really wasn't anything memorable, aside from Bang A Gong... But let's be honest. Everyone and their grandma has heard that song. So, I think, just by its radio friendly presence, it's hard not to at least tap a foot to the song. Is it a masterpiece? Nope. But I just happen to like that song. The iconic album cover is great! The iconic album as a whole? Nah.

Not my scene

With the exception of Bang A Gong for the fleeting second of “Oh that’s who sings this song!”, I was pretty bored listening to this

Only like Get It On

Beetje eentonig. Goeie sound maar gewoon net niet interessant genoeg om echt engagerend te blijven

I enjoyed the opener, Mambo Sun, but otherwise found the album fairly bland and don't care much for the lyrics.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Snoozer of a light smooth classic rock album. Not into it.

I just feel like I've heard the same style of songs done better by other artists. Not a bad listen, just not memorable. Some songs remind me of the later Beatles, some stuff is blues-rock forward. A little too mellow. 1.5/5

Some songs are cool but meh

Ok - never heard of this band before but was surprised when Get It On played since I’ve heard it on the radio all the time In general though, just sounds like every other 70s rock album

It's super mellow and poetic but with electric guitars and distortion. I liken it to Harry Nilsson meets The Archies. It's good, it just isn't my thing.

I wanted to like this but it was very hit or miss for me. I didn't really know what "glam rock" would sound like but now I know it's David Bowie-ish. It was good all around but did not impress me or seem that special.

Luckily if you don’t know the words to one of the songs on this album you can just sing the words from one of the other songs. They could have recorded 3 songs and gotten the same point across. Not terrible but fairly boring and repetitive.

#5. This album was a little bit of everything. A little bit of Bowie, a little bit of Holly, a little bit of the Beatles... Their influences were obvious. A little of this, a little of that. The only thing I didn't notice was that little bit of whatever it is that makes music interesting. I know not every album has to be some genre defining masterpiece, sometimes they just gotta be a little bit fun. And personally I don't think that album is that, so it only gets a little bit of stars from me. 2/5: meh

Average

Sounds kind of blended together with only a few low points

This is an album full of songs that I did not need to hear, but in the middle of it, you'll hear songs like "Girl" and "Rip Off" that make you actually pay attention to it because it sounds like they actually tried. I'm sure this is a classic to some people, but it's not my cup of tea.

Da e greit

Mambo Sun and Life’s a Gas are the best songs, followed by Cosmic Dancer. I was surprised by the semi rock indie feel of the first track. I think they were on the same drug trip when he wrote Bang a Gong and the Motivator, then had a hard time picking them apart from each other. Planet Queen is one of the most pointless songs I’ve ever heard. Rip Off has some great music in there, but I felt “ripped off” that they cut the most creative sounding music parts to go back into the same tiring sound when he yells “it’s a rip off!” I hope it was intentional. Other songs not mentioned don’t really need any comments. In general I can appreciate the music if it was unique for its time, but by the same token, I don’t think it’s particularly reasonable to say it’s good just because it may have been different. I would not listen to any of those songs again by choice asides for the first three mentioned.

ok. but why does the main singer sound so bored and unenthusiastic. and then suddenly he starts going “ow” like a dog just got released into the studio and started biting his ankles

I see how this is an influential piece and it certainly sounds similar to things I like, but it feels too undercooked. It features a lot of things that I have heard done better, so I suppose being early does not benefit them in a game of comparison here.

It's OK. "Bang a Gong" is clearly the one hit but it has been overplayed in countless TV ads.

Kinda glam rock British sound. Has the Get it On song that plays in a lot of movies. Rest of album is meh.

Not interesting

kinda boring, wasnt streinous to listen to but not good

Listening to this as a teenager back in the 70s you probably thought it was the shit, but by today’s standards, nothing particularly great about this album

i liked 2 tracks, the rest of it i really didn't like. Alot of repetition.

So they changed directions from folk-rock to whatever the hell this is: glam rock, because they put on makeup? Whatever. "The Motivator" rips off "Bang a Gong", but is the better song. "Planet Queen" was also a good song. An extra star for those efforts, but that's it. I don't get why everyone goes apeshit for these guys. Every song is the same level of everything: middle of the road on every count. And it's not possible for the singer to mumble any more than he did. Sheesh. Were these guys trying to be so quiet that you weren't sure if they wanted to actually be heard or not? These guys are a nothing burger with cheese: the cheese is good, the bun is good. But without the meat, then what's the damn point?

You know what? Better than I remembered. Lots of trash on here but there are a couple medium songs and of course Bang a Gong is a classic.

Not my kind of music. I don't get anything out of this.

Not really into it.

Just not that interesting. Not bad per se, just uninteresting

Dislike

'Bang a Gong (Get It on)' is alright. Dull. 2 / 5 stars.

Surprisingly bland, even boring. Never really seen the fuss about Get It On or Jeepster. Disappointing.

The album artwork is like the JUSTICE album. Unfortunately, this isn't even close to being as good as that album. This list has a highly disproportionate amount of rock and rock-adjacent genres. As an album that came out in the '70s, it falls under some of the trappings of most 70's music where they don't know how to end songs. Most of the songs are pretty boring too. "Get it on" is the most popular song on this album and while it is ok it deffinetly sounds like something that would be playing in a rundown bar where the average age is 55 and if you are under that age you are getting hit on by someone at least 20 years older than you and is gives big creep vibes. Needless to say this I am not liking this much at all. It isn't terrible I can see the musicallity of it, and the merrits of it. I wouldn't mind it all that much if it was playing in the background somewhere (most likely a bar as mentioned) but I don't want to liten to more of it if I had to. A strong 2/5

not very good. 2.5 star music, but i had to stop listening before the album was done because i was tired of it, so rounding down to a 2

probably a 2.4. some classics, but quite samey a lot of the time

Glam rock just isn’t for me.

Hate to be too harsh on this album, it's good, but it sounds like every other 70s album on here. Having trouble finding distinct differences that make a T.Rex or Curtis Mayfield stand out.

Not that interesting.

All the songs sounds the same in my opinion.

This album was just not my cup of tea. I did not like it at all. Bla.

A lot of mediocre stuff. Lots of it.

It's groovy, it's vibey, it's lots of 12 bar blues, it's nothing amazing, but I like it. Dad has this on vinyl and I preferred listening to it drunk on Christmas with tons of dust on the record. But that's nostalgia value for ya

Dull in most places

The album is fine. It’s a bit boring and uninteresting. It’s got a good sound overall, but it starts to get samey as the tracks tend to all have the exact same feel and sound. For a full album, it doesn’t hold up, but it makes for decent radio music as you’ll only end up hearing one of the songs anyway. Favorite track: Rip Off

People who think this is party music must go to pretty shit parties. Primary school nonsense lyrics and bland "grooves". I'll never get the love for T-Rex. Best Tracks: Mambo Sun; Jeepster; Get It On

10/20/22 Lean lady blues that’s all.

This kinda left me flat.

Pretty good

Packaged with songs reminiscent of 1970s Vietnam War-era rock 'n roll, this album–an archetypal byproduct of the British Invasion–presents music that sounds like a mediocre imitation of more noteworthy artists from its decade. Perhaps, I am being ignorant and this is actually the album that inspired the more superior work of subsequent musicians, but even then, Electric Warrior is not so great. My only favorite tune off of this album is \"Cosmic Dancer.\" I acknowledge that if I were a baby boomer, I would most likely rank this album as one of the greatest in the history of rock music, but I have simply been exposed to this type of music too much in the past.

I had no idea this album was so soft. Almost.. too soft. Meh. Enjoyed "The Slider" more.

I never was a fan of glam rock nor the song Bang A Gong. I like some of the songs on this album though. I think I might like the previous incarnation of this band as mystical folkies since that's more my thing and since I do like some things about their sound.

Funky.

Initial impressions - how disappointing. For a band called T-Rex, they certainly don’t have any bite. It’s light rock and roll country styled sound, which is fine, if not a bit forgettable, but I personally did not enjoy the voice of the singer, his voice is not particular distinctive, even weak and dreary at points ‘Get it on’ - the hit song from this album stood head and shoulders above the other songs. ‘Rip off’ is pretty noisy and heavy, a welcome change from the other songs. ‘There was a time’ has some good string accompaniment. The album is well produced, and has a good variety of instruments featured, and for the 1970s, I can see that it’s well regarded - with a different singer, I could have quite enjoyed it, but as it stands I found this album quite a chore to listen to really. 4/10

Pretty boring. At least to my ears.

Toch knap gedaan

God I hate this guy’s voice. The instrumentals save it from bottom marks.

They never really hit for me - always seemed to be style over substance

My first exposure to T. Rex was as the weird original version of the Power Station’s awesome “Get It On,” which was very popular when I was in high school. I got to appreciate the T. Rex version more as time went on. I did feel like this was the album you’d get if you just bought it for that song. It sounds about right for the group, but there’s nothing better on it to grab your soul. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s just not obvious to me why it’s on this list.

Letkeätä perusrockia melkoisen 60-lukulaisilla soundeilla. Jossain biiseissä stemmoineen ja jousineen tulee hyvin vahvat myöhäisemmän ajan Beatles-vibat. Get it On oli tuttu kappale josta en ole koskaan pitänyt. Valju kokonaiskuva jäi vaikka varsinkin levyn loppupuoli oli jo hieman mielenkiintoisempaa. Kax.

Knew Bang a Gong. Pretty standard early 70's sound with some bluesy riffs. Lyrics mostly nonsense, annoying at times.

Fine but not very memorable.

Bit boring

The first 2 songs feel like they came up with 1 minute of material, then used the repeat function in FL Studio. Rest of the songs didn't do much for me.

Better than the last one (George Michael), still pretty straightforward. Would give 2.5 and listen again without being mad about it.

Very familiar glamrock sound, having heard the song Get In On (too) many times on the radio. Will avoid listening to this album ever again if I can help it.

Inte lika bra som jag hade hoppats på, allt låter lite same-same, har sett den fladdra förbi i min periferi men inte helt övertalad..

always thought I quite liked T-Rex having heard a bunch of their bigger songs, turns out an album is too much for me!

Meh, Get It On I liked.

Not bad, but forgettable. Did nothing for me.

This fell off the note I thought it was riffing on Bowie stuff. Some bright lights, but not enough

Favorite lyric - I danced myself right out of the womb. I feel that Get It On was the only song on the album that they focused on producing.

I now know why "Bang a Gong" is the only song I've heard from them.

Interesting. Not something I would normally listen to and I found my self not really interested in listening now. However, I did enjoy it in some way. 2/5

Wanted to like it but was kinda dull and creepy. 20th century boy is great song. Didn't like much else though.

Its a classic seventieth album. Not bad and a couple all time greatest. But is it truly exciting? Does it make me want to listen to it again? After a while I feel they all sound the same. So I don't have a need to listen to it again... Hence a 2 star.

Ok but not great, apart from the big hits obviously

Glam rock. Get it On is a good pop song, but not convinced by the album overall.

it was okay, boring, obviously i knew the bong a gong but other than it was nothing spectacular

First time I’ve listened to the album. I definitely enjoyed Get It On, which I already heard and had in my library. The rest are just a much of a muchness.

Had heard one or two songs before. Some are catchy, and the album is very much a reflection of its time. Not a group I really enjoyed before -- didn't actively dislike, just never felt that interested or engaged with their music.

Decent rock project. Classic classic rock.

This is album is apparently huge for glam rock but personally I found it to be a bit boring. Other than a sudden sax in a track or two, every audio track sounds dull and flattened and in every song on the album the sum of these always a similarly washed-out kind of beige nothing. Good on them for being the forerunners of a genre I know nothing about - that kind of provenance is always neat - but I can't say I feel particularly interested in those that followed them based on this album. Get It On is a cool little track though.

Pretty good but not too much my vibe

Not a fan of glam rock.

Helt greit, bra stemme men litt kjedelig ellers

I mean I didn't love it. There were some songs I recognized that I had no clue were by this artist - but overall, I felt like I skipped more songs on this album than listened to completely.

70s English rock that is better left A) in the 70s, B) in England, and C) under a rock.

Pas mon style

Not my cup of tea.

Didn’t really like this music

not really my thing couldnt listen to the whole album maybe cuz its js way too old for me that cosmic dancer was kinda good tho

not the worst but wouldn't listen

Just rocket rock rock on boddg

david bowie if his lyrics were awful and you stripped him of all charisma and flair

Ass. Bang a gong ok

They're really showing the bias of this list with this album - a bias towards this era of rock and roll There's nothing special about it. I could think of many superior English rock bands from this time that were similarly inspired by the Blues. The hit "Bang On" is alright, and none of the other tracks seem to have the same quality of production. Certainly none of the others are able to grab my attention.

I am three weeks into this and two albums from T. Rex have already come up. I have the same opinion on this one as the other one....it sucks. I have nothing else to say about it.

Good album

Didnt listen well (like past 1 song at all lol), not my kinda music!

Beklager T-Rex, men dette likte jeg ikke særlig godt. Klarte så vidt å fullføre albumet. Sterk en stjerne da

Really not my thing

Like the Rolling Stones, sorta. 1/5

I understand that this album had some influence on the bands from glam rock genre that I like so much, but listening to this album was a strugle. Very boring and for me very irritating Mark Bolan voice to listen!

i forgot about it as soon as i finished listening to it. This was just an ok album

I didn't like T.Rex back then and I still don't just a bunch of meh

I did not like this album. It didn’t fit my style of music

Very boring with absolutely nothing of interest and never tries anything different

Despite my great memories of this album, the music is boring.

Slow music. Too slow even on the upbeat songs and not interesting enough to like

1. mambo - 1.5 2. dancer - 1 3. jeepzter - 1.5 4. monolith - 1 5. bluez - 1.5 6. get - 1.5 7. queen - 1 8. girl - 1 9. motivator - 1.5 10. gaz - 1.5 11. rip - 0 12 hot - 0 13. rock - 1 14. mountain - 0

Senti que ele tem a voz, que ele tem o instrumental, mas que não fez bom uso do que tinha. Sem musicas favs.

Hot take: I don’t care how influential music from the 70’s is if it’s garbage. This was painful.

I'm only familiar at the outset with 'Bang a Gong,' but I like this kind of 70's 'fun' rock, still with plenty of great riffs and chords, just pop fun. On listening, I found it to be a bit more syrupy than I was hoping for.

Definitely a singles band. I’m surprised I didn’t like this.

Did not like this record one bit, couldn't even finish it. Strong 0.

Not my type sincerely

I don't like this song because the beat is not that good. I would not recommend this song. I don't like this song because the start is not that good. I would not recommend this song.

the first song it started off kinda intresting then as it kept going i starting to not like it to me the lyrics are kinda weird. the second song i dont like ethier because its the same as the first kinda the third song i also dont like because they all start off the same

the first song was okay it started off like uhm something the background music was like the only good thing it was nice. the second song is like worse lowkey

never liked trex

another one of those "man i really appreciate this forming the foundation of the genres i love today" but christ this is an absolute slog to get through. dudes smoked a fat bowl before heading into the studio to write a 13bpm lamentation about god knows what

Not for me. 1/5

2/11. its fine! 18/100

Just not a fan of his music and I cant tell 100% why, just one of those underwhelming voices and music combos for me

The vibes are just of a bad version of a Beatles rip-off band. Get It On and Lean Woman Blues can stand up on their own legs and be respectable songs, but nothing else is really any good. And honestly, the album gets pretty bad, too. The only really good things in the album are the two aforementioned songs, and they can't hold up a whole album on their own. AND they're not even really great songs, just good songs. Favorite Song(s): Get It On, Lean Woman Blues

Not a fan whatsoever, felt bored and the songs were repetitive to me. Nothing stuck in my head and by the time it was done I was thankful to get rid of it.

I remember the times my dad introduced me to his record collection when I was a kid. He had a fair chunk of T. Rex in there. I enjoyed nearly everything he introduced me to, but it's almost like a I hit a brick wall when he played anything from this band. I found nothing interesting there. However, they have made their way onto my radar again with this randomised list. So I genuinely gave ‘em another shot and it turns out I’m still not a fan as I straight up found this LP completely boring. There’s very little creativity on display in a musical sense, and virtually no sense of energy in many of the songs throughout the tracklist. The few times a bit of experimentation is thrown in it adds almost nothing to it. I don't know what it is, but outside of the chorus on the big hit 'Get It On' (or 'Bang A Gong'), there is almost no enthusiasm behind the instruments whatsoever. Bolan's vocals also leave a lot to be desired. It even feels like he is singing without any true confidence; as if he is holding himself back on purpose to get that 'cool cat' effect. It's frustrating to listen to. I wouldn't really mind any of this as much if the band actually had something substantial to say to balance things out; but they don't. Perhaps I have just learned, through this list so far, that I'm simply not a fan of the glam rock genre, given my previous rating for a Slade album. Because similar to that Slade album 'Electric Warrior' has aged like milk in comparison to a lot of the fine wine from the stacked era of the 70's.

utter shite

WOW, I thought this was a One-Hit wonder.

Det mesta gillade jag inte Bästa låt: Monolith

This record should have been titled “Bang A Gong: T Rex greatest HIT”. Beyond that good but dated tune, nothing of note.

I did like their song Bang a Gong but not a fan

the only time that my ears perked up is when i thought i heard cigarettes and alcohol by oasis and got excited. Cigarettes and alcohol is much better and more exciting. this is the type of music that gets put in the background while you’re playing uno and you don’t really care about i’m just bored truly

Not a fan

His voice bothers me

Creí que una banda llamada T. Rex haría música más interesante. My dissapointment is inconmesurable and my day is ruined.

While an interesting album, it's not one that I would consider owning.

Tough one. Might be having serious aversion to early 70s stuff.

Here is the lyric sheet for this album: ah - ah - ah - oh yeah! I could have gone my whole life without listening to this and I would not have missed it. The album is derivative in countless ways and so weak musically that I was almost offended. Electric? Hardly. MAYBE "Bang a Gong. MAYBE. Whoever is playing percussion on this is trying to be heard above the drummer, so they're hitting the tambourine (or clapping, or the bongo) just before the downbeat. And it's not consistently done, either. Just random movements to offset whatever groove might be trying to emerge. The guitar sound is compressed and a little flat. The singer (Marc Bolan always made me uncomfortable and not in that "ooh, what-a-strange-and-interesting-person kind of way but in the creepy-but-thinks-very-highly-of-himself kind of way) has NO dynamics or range, the lyrics are insipid and tried. Listening to this is like watching a remake of a TV show that was based on a bad Broadway show that everyone in the 70's had to watch because there was nothing else on. A real overrated downer. Electric my ass.

Rock skal ikke være så rart

Enjoyable.
