Reviews (page 11 of 13)
It took me 3 tries to get to listening this album all the way through since I was busy each time. By the time I got to the 3rd though it was actually pretty solid. Bang a gong baby
Really nice chill album. only complaint is it felt like it dragged on a little longer than i wanted it to.
I liked it, but not really my bag
100 ALBUMS! I have reached another milestone, and with it comes another album to listen to. Is "Electric Warrior" by T. Rex worthy of being my 100th album? I'm not sure. Despite the fact that I haven't heard of this album until now, this album definitely deserves to be on the list. It was one of the first, if not the first, glam rock albums ever made, which is definitely significant in my books. You can really hear that too. There were multiple parts in this album where I thought, "Yeah, I can see how this influenced David Bowie". In a way, the connection to the first album I ever gave a 5 kind of do make this deserving of being album #100. But is this album good? Yeah. The singing isn't my favorite. Sometimes it's good but it isn't always that way and it's kind of weird for some songs. The writing has good aspects such as interesting concepts and good imagery, but isn't always the most intriguing. The album is slightly repetitive, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall, this is a decent album that is worthy of being on this list, but not quite the big celebration I was hoping to get with album 100. Maybe #200 will be something great. High 3/5.
Pure and simple Rock! OK!
Pretty good, nice hip twist on traditional rock and roll.
pretty deece
I wasn’t blown away but only listened once
I was familiar with a few of their songs but not aware of T Rex as a band. Sad to learn the lead died at such an early age.
The only song I recognized off this album was "get it on bang a gong". I've heard it many times on classic rock stations. Other than that, the reat of the songs were pretty generic 70s rock
It's a shame Bolan died as early as he did. There's a lot of potential that was never realized on this album.
This has an immaculate mood, in a normal context I'd have found cringe to be compared to a car (?) but Bolan sells it and I don't know how. Enjoyed every song, some more some less but it's not granted in a LP. (I don't like numeric ratings, I just give 3 to anyone)
The big hits are classics for a reason. The other tracks didn’t hold my attention between those songs.
Enjoyable grooves. Bang a Gong is a great song but not great enough to up the album’s rating beyond a 3.
Not as upbeat as I expected. Hoping for more of the songs to be like Bang a Gong. Good album. 3
I like some of the deep cuts beyond their big hit
Great album, several good tunes, surprising addition to Bang a Gong.
Besser hörbar als das letzte, aber auch nicht meins
It's a good album. I'd prefer The Slider.
Equal parts Bowie/Beatles rip-off with passable blues guitar work...
Pretty rad stuff. Get it on!
Glam Rock....I have heard a couple if these songs. Get It On (Bang a Gong) is the best on the album. It's got some unique sounds and an interesting vibe. Not bad...
This album wasn’t a Rip Off, more like a Cosmic Dancer.
yllättävä fanisuosikkki albumi, kivaa rokkia 70-luvulta. ei muuta. tiedä miten tämä präjähtänyt tälläinen tavanomainen poppisetti stratosfääriin tällä sivustolla kiva että jengi tykkäää hyvä hyvä... viisaan itämaan tietäjän sanoja lainaen : popowosci i belkotliwemu charakterowi nie da sie tego odczuc. HEHHEH aina naurattaa... get it on
Good glam rock album, 'Get In On' is a big hit, though the others don't stand out that much. None of the songs are have the 'wow' effect but as an album it's consistent and interesting. Somewhere between 3 and 4 but I'm giving it a 3 now.
I'm familiar with The Power Station's cover of Get It On, and I heard of T.Rex but didn't realize they had recorded it in the 70s.
I can recognize that this is probably good, but it’s just not really my thing
I figured I would detest this, but it actually wasn't too bad and sounded remarkably fresh considering it's over 50 years old now. It hasn't suddenly made me like glam rock, but there was surprisingly little filler, just a solid album with some pretty tight songs on it.
Bit more modern than the previous one. Slower but interesting. Got halfway through
Leppoisa henkistä rockia blues ja southern vaikutuksilla. Hiukan jopa modernia ikäisekseen. Get It On taisi olla jostain tuttu.
Solid, didn't love it.
Decent. 3/5
Knew nothing about T. Rex other than a couple hits and that they were from the UK. Interesting, unique, just a skilled guitar player saying yea, I wanna do something bluesy, something fun, lets get more than just me and some drums and see where this goes. I bet the live shows would have been NEXT level
Pretty good
this was a very beatles like album but I found it more enjoyable at times!
Lekker beetje New Wave achtige vibes. Get it On is een banger en is ook het enige nummer dat in NL de top 10 heeft gehaald. In engeland was dit blijbkaar mateloos populair. Dat snap ik niet helemaal, maar ach.
I’m surprised I didn’t like this more; T. Rex has some absolute bangers in their discography. I just kind of shrugged when the album was over.
I've never heard this and I enjoy it. 3.5/5 Cosmic Dancer is a really catchy.
Groovy, kind of reminds me of George Harrison
I only knew T. Rex as "Bring it on", so this is the first time I've listened to them beyond that. This was an enjoyable listen, and more funky than I thought it would be.
5 stars for Bang a Gong.
Why didn't I enjoy this more? I don't actually know, except to say that I didn't really find it that interesting. The songs I knew were nice to hear again, and the ones I didn't were not ones that I'd hate to hear again, but I'm not seeing their place in the rock canon. It's always cheering to know that Marc Bolan's son is called Nolan.
Best of the strangely large number (three?) of T. Rex albums in this list. Very Bowie-esque.
T. Rex Like that 70’s glam rock sound with the hand claps, fuzzy guitar, falsetto bgvs. Really liked Mambo Sun. Bang a Gong was cool. Cosmic dancer was cool too. Rest of the album is ok.
Kinda groovy at times but also pretty boring. Probably a 2 in real life but a 3 for this project
I like Life’s a Gas. There were cool moments and I like his voice. Also, please note that I put the review for Wilco under flaming lips. I give flaming lips a 4
70s chill music
was aight
Bastante bien y con el extra de Cosmic dancer y por supuesto Get it on. Merece la pena ser escuchado sin ser una obra maestra en su momento debió significar mucho para el glam rock y para todos los músicos a los que influenció después.
Very classic. Interesting guitar work and vocals
Bolji Dejvid Bouvi . Malo 1D
I was expecting glitter and glam rock and was delighted to hear more than just this. I have never had a reason to really listen to T-Rex so this was a nice nudge. Good stuff in here.
Kind of inoffensive background music
I was ready for this to be more fun than it turned out to be, as Get It On is a blast, but the rest seems a little ordinary. I find Bolan's vocal style a little annoying. I like the fuzzy guitar tones.
Pre bowie post Beatles glam rock. Also some prog jazz elements?
fun songs but nothing too spectstuclar
Hab schon wieder vergessen. Guess hat keinen Eindruck hinterlassen
sure why not
Enjoyed it very much. Can definitely see how it influenced glam rock.
Some fun stuff, some meh. Makes more sense after listening to so much Bowie
Glam, but still cool. Very Bowie-lite, and a few of their more famous songs, but patchy and inconsistent. Not my favourite genre (or band) but better than I expected
For bang a gong, 3
I was excited that this album came up today as its one thats been on my radar for a long time, but I have never actually listened before. Its pretty good although the songs I already knew i.e. Jeepster and Get It On are definitely the best ones here. I also like Life's a Gas and The Motivator.
decent but pretty monotonous
Partly heard before Saved 5/11 Top track: Get It On
Not so great that I want to come back to it, sadly.
A unique mix between Cream, Vanilla Fudge, The Black Keys, and Buffalo Springfield. A classic rock album with a hint of psychedelic. Contains the well known song Bang a Gong (Get it On). Overall not bad, but not the greatest classic rock album out there.
I think it’s fine. My largest problem as a generally vocals oriented guy is that I find the vocals sonically uninteresting. There’s some interesting lead guitar, and once in a while there’s some cool rhythm or keys, but generally I would describe it as unique and decent enough to keep me listening but not up to my rotation standards
Fine collection from the 70s glam popsters.
definitely reminds me of other music from the era. television, tom petty, british wave. can't decide if I like it enough to keep coming back.
Not bad, would listen to again. didn't blow me away
Just one listen, I sense a strong Beatles influence, sometimes it's like I'm listening to John Lennon. Liked it, will explore it further.
Not sure what to expect on this album. I like the strings on Cosmic Dancer. Feels like they got a ton of inspiration from The Beatles. Bang a Gong is a song that I had never looked up the artist for. Disappointed by the lack of gong in this number. Another ho-hum album.
I really like the scratchy old timey sounding guitar to go along with the horns in the whole album. Bang a Gong is a classic that I didn't really like as a stand alone, but having it in the middle of the album it is a great song. Overall solid album with some unique sounds with a little bit of funk.
I expected this album to be more glam-rock and it wasn't as glam as I expected. T. Rex did more folk-ish music in the past, so this feels like a transitional album for them. It has the big hit (Bang a Gong) on it and there are 4-5 other really great songs on the album. Overall, I would recommend this album and I enjoyed it. It's some really great rock and I know there are a few more T. Rex albums and can't wait to hear those as well.
Pretty good I think! Can see how this was hugely influential on decades on psyche/rock to come and deserves its spot on the list. The vibes carried me a long way, but they were just starting to wear thin by record end, and the insistent, sometimes creepy horniness got a bit wearing. Three and a half. Fave track: Rip Off
Solid album! One song stands out among the rest.
Nothing much more to say other than the rating. 3/5.
This was fun.
A fun listen, nothing blew me away though. Wouldn't be mad to listen to again, but nothing really grabbed me, nothing made me want to know the name of a track or listen to it over and over again.
Pretty good. Some David Bowie “Major Tom” vibes.
feels like a 'proto' of many bands, classic; Bang a Gong (Get it On) - familiar, jammy; feels pretty 70s, fun and fine
Really like Cosmic Dancer. Everyone knows Bang a Gong. The Motivator sounds like a Bang a Gong outtake. Rip Off feels like I’ve heard someone cover it, but not quite. I do like some of the guitar sounds and it has that classic 70s production. Not sure I’ll listen again but glad I did. Good start to this journey.
Eh, it was ok? There’s some cool tracks, Get It On was cool. Not the best lyric wise either. It was just ok.
Surprisingly chill. Quite psychedelic and vibey. Obviously main song is the highlight but other songs aren't as good
Has some of Bolan's best but, overall, not a great album. I prefer The Slider.
A good album. I just didn't really like the guy's voice that much.
Now I know the T. Rex sound beyond their mainstream hit (hits?). I had no idea their tunes were so pensive. Need to listen again sometime to better appreciate.
extremely mixed bag. at times sounds like it's ahead of its time, and then immediately sounds like 1971. the parts that hit are very entertaining. best tracks: mambo sun, hot love, cosmic dancer
I was surprised how listenable this album was. All I ever heard from T. Rex was Get It On.
Bang a gon (get it on) sort du lot. PAs désagréable a écouter, mais rien de tant mémorable. 6/10
It’s ok, found myself singing along to quite a bit of it but I don’t remember any of it the next day
Slightly too noisy
Technically great, easy to listen too. I just know I don't like glam rock enough appreciate this album
A good album for easy listening, more slow paced than I'm used to but blurs into the background. 'Get it on' and 'Hot Love - A Side' break the trend and are good bops.
pretty fun, but glam just wasn't THAT interesting musically
Pretty ahead of it’s time for 1971.
bang a gong
T. Rex's first album since their change from a folk to an electric sound. Whilst basically a revolution, this album is still more of an evolution and much more subtle than I would have imagined. Overall a nice surprise to hear something a little bit different to the fully formed T. Rex sound. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Get It On Date listened: 09/08/23
Gøy! Get it on.
Bang a Gong (Get It On) is a classic of course, I stuck that one on repeat occasionally. There are some other gems here too. Worth the listen for sure, but doesn't really stand out too much to me besides the obvious hit. Solid 3.5
enjoyed it, its a vibe
This was quite good. There were a few songs here that I'd heard but never known who they were by. This was a bit soft for me to fully appreciate today though, it didn't keep my attention and even kind of got repetitive at times. Still good though. Favourite: Get It On
Interesting early 70's rock. Might give it a second listen when I'm not catching up on new albums. Now I know where Bang A Gong came from!
Bang the Gong! Get it on!
Great album, great classics and lots of blues references.
Hallo
Better than I was expecting!
It’s no Stegosaurus, but it’ll do.
Highlights: "Mambo Sun," "Jeepster," "Bang a Gong," "Rip Off" T-Rex might have some innovation to its name, in this space before there was a definitive sense of disco as a separate genre against which racist rock fans could draw a line. I was curious about how close Bowie was in 1971 to this blend of rock and uptempo soul, but thumbing through Hunky-Dory it sounds closer to Beatles still. The problem is it's all just jams, however good their central idea is. All slightly overlong. I can kind of block out the delirious, delusional Led Zeppelin porno psych lyrics, but not the slimy goblin vocal delivery. Definitely hear the good and the bad of Castleface artists here, who were overtly influenced by this band. The closer is actually probably my favorite; want to spend time hanging out on that progression, and the dramatic final sostenuto is one of the best I've heard in a rock album.
Good album. All the songs are good, although two of them (Bang A Gong and The Motivator) are a bit alike in the verse.
As much as I want to say something snarky about another one hit wonder album, I just can't. These guys sorta pull it off.
Top glam. Feels a bit lightweight at times but highly distinctive.
Some nice numbers on this. T Rex manages to pull off sexy rock without it sounding desperate or contrived. Vocals were a bit weak and at one point records started to become identikit. Not bad, but wouldnt listen through again.
Pretty fun, I had only ever heard Get It On before this. I like the album but it’s a little long
Nice diving rock. Good to see how blues inspired a generation of rock and roll. Some classics like "bring it on"
3.5 - the .5 is for Get It On
Legalzinho, esse tinha umas musicas maneiras
Not a bad album but nothing really caught my attention for any length of time. The only track that really popped for me was Bang a Gong, but probably only because I knew it. It’s got a nice groove but I didn’t love any of the instrumentation on this record. Maybe it’s more important to music than good.
Meh. I don’t hate it but it doesn’t do anything for me. It’s pretty generic sounding and it may have been ahead of its time, but I don’t feel like it’s aged super well.
Ah yeah pretty good cool to have a softer mix on something punk esque. The kick drum is recorded quite nice. Can hear the aul David Bowie influence quite strongly
на автомате планировала отказать гламроку, а они ничего! бодрые)
Decent, couple of good songs, gets a bit bland in the middle
Pretty good glam rock album. I don’t think it’s quite as good as most people believe but I think that has to do with the style of music I enjoy rather than the quality. Bang a Gong is obviously the most famous song but it doesn’t reflect the rest of the album. Most of the tracks feature more subdued vocals and are less immediate or poppy in general. The only outright bad track is the closing one, but other than that every song hits pretty well, just nothing outstanding in my opinion.
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on! Tämä ja pari muuta hyvää kantoi muutamaan kuuntelukertaan.
Sopivan leppoa, mut kuitenkin menevä perjantaille
Have the heard the name T Rex, but have never listened to any of their albums. I was entertained and enjoyed a good portion of this album. Not sure I would call this psychedelic rock, but whatever. Right off the start thought Mambo Sun was a good tune. Not sure what he means when he says his wig's all pooped for you? There were some interesting lyrics throughout this entire album. Other songs I liked were Jeepster, Monolith and Life's a Gas with my favorites being It's a Ripoff (Bleached on the Beach, I want to tickle your peach. Yea, baby!) and Lean Woman Blues. Thought this was a good, entertaining album and I'll take some time to check some of their other stuff. Every now and then he lets out a little "awwww" that reminds me a little of Billy Idol. Can't explain in words, but damn, he made me think of Billy. Least favorite song is Bang a Gong. A remake was made when I was in college, by Power Station. Another song that is pretty good, but overplaying on the radio at the time makes me want to turn off whenever it comes on, to this day. I can see my listening to this entire album again. Thought the good sounds, songs and lyrics outweighed any negatives. A good solid 3 for me 3
3.5 I know this band and album were supposedly super influential on the rock music to come in the decade ahead, and so with that in mind and with a title like “Electric Warrior”, I expected this to be a lot heavier, more in the vein of 20th Century Boy, one of two songs I knew by the band prior. Instead, this was more of a groovy, mellower, and oftentimes acoustic rock record - and I didn’t mind that. In fact, I enjoyed quite a bit of this. That being said, I can’t seem to pinpoint exactly what made this album so influential. It definitely sounds like an album that bridges the gap between the classic rock sound of the 60s and the flashy, flamboyant style of rock to come in the 70s, but I’m not sure exactly what seems to mark that transition here. Maybe it was Marc Bolan’s whole makeup and top hat thing? Anyway, regardless of what’s there to be said about legacy, in outright quality I’d say this is pretty good. I’m not sure anything stood out here as an immediate replayable favorite, but Mambo Sun, Jeepster, Planet Queen, Life’s a Gas, and of course Bang a Gong at least all stood out to me as fun, though their take on blues in Lean Woman Blues was nothing special. While I didn’t love Cosmic Dancer, it’s a hell of a lot better than Morrissey and David Bowie’s take on the song. As a diehard fan of both of those guys, that kind of pains me to say, but if you haven’t heard their version, well… it’s rough. Overall, solid classic rock album that never outstayed its welcome. Hope the next one is just as fun and upbeat!
I wasn't expecting to like this album much. And I didn't really. It was ok. The Slider was a nice surprise though last week. I did actually quite like that one. 2.5/3
electric warrior contains the t. rex music i know. imagine my surprise discovering that this was their first glam rock album and had only done folk rock before! i hadn't known that t. rex was one of the pioneers of glam rock, either. like other artists early to a genre, they aren't as well known as others--david bowie is easily the most known. but t. rex created "get it on," so we're all winners here. as for the album, a lot of these songs are catchy. good hooks, easy to sing along with, but sometimes not entirely memorable. many songs seem to clump together. a lot of glam rock has to do with stage performance/presence, which doesn't come through the music as much, unless if you're david bowie or alice cooper. but there's some sort of attitude that does come through. i'm hearing some similarities with prince and david bowie, among others, so it's easy to see how influential electric warrior was. 3.5
Singles band. This is their best album but I’m still not convinced outside the singles.
This one was just o.k. in my book. To be fair, my book is pretty just o.k. to begin with, so it's not like it's in bad company or anything. (In fact, Bad Company's not even in my book.) It was pleasant and made me think of Bowie. I suspect something else is there and I may just need to hear it another few times to find it.
Not nearly as interesting as The Slider.
Meh
That was a bit of a mess, honestly. Every other track was great. But the in-between tracks were... well, a mess. It legitimately felt like they did it on purpose. Even the production values swung back and forth between great and meh. Bit of a wild ride but overall, it was fun.
Would have been a 2 but then i remembered their hit song half way through the album
Started well but faded for me. Seems a little misogynistic and of it's time (which I can forgive) but overall not a bad album. Can't say I'll rush back but I won't cringe in horror at the sheer mention of them either. Win?
As middle of the road as it gets for me. Bang a Gong is good and I like the guitar sound but the vocals are meh for me.
Great pop album, a fistful of monsters and strong songwriting throughout. His imperial period might have been brief, but it was imperial.
A pleasant listen. Bang a Gong doesn't sound like a 52 year old song!
People rave about this and I don't know why. It's good and all. It just doesn't blow me away. And I love the power station's "Bang A Gong" more.
Peak Marc Bolan. Even better than the follow-up, The Slider, containing more than a handful of really great tracks - and then of course the anthem that it “Get It In”. As with most T. Rex records I start to lose interest toward the end as the songs slowly start blending together; simply just an effect of the Bolan signature sound and tempo. I really enjoyed this nonetheless.
Ok but feels like run of the mill classic rock music
Some nice tunes in here
Very forgetable. Gets an extra star for Life's A Gas
Enjoyed this one but some of the love songs were a little much for me. Really really liked Cosmic Dancer, a brilliant song for the ages.
👍🏻👍🏻 7/10
Pretty good but why would i listen to this if i could just listen to ziggy stardust
It's hard to believe that a janglified Elliott Smith inspired glam rock, punk, and new wave.
3.5 really
it was okay but not my cup of tea.
The tiniest Rex
Nice energy and much fun!
Tony Visconti … strings arrangement and drum sounds Bowie and Bolan 70s flavour Fun to go back to …
Genre: Glam Rock Favorite songs: Mambo sun and Get it on
Is nice, but not my favorite
Very 70s, but in a good way! There are definite Beatles influences here, some Simon & Garfunkel parallels, and honestly? Get It On (the song that everyone knows) is probably the weakest track on the album. There's an awesome blues number called Lean Woman Blues that absolutely *slaps* and is going into my rotation of liked songs. I'm not sure that I'll come back to this on the reg, but it's definitely re-listenable!
Yeah ok
Only really knew Get It On because of hearing it on classic rock radio in my dad’s car. The rest of the album is exactly as I expected, middle of the road, simple 70s rock. I do love this album cover, it’s minimalist but exciting in the best way. Good listening overall, I vibe with it.
It was okay. I really only liked bang a gong. Cosmic Dancer is sooo corny
Letkeää ja särmikästä samaan aikaan. Etenkin alkupuoli on upea. Ei minusta tosin kanna ihan loppuun saakka.
Good album. Glam rock + folk which is a combination I didn’t know I’m into. I’m already familiar with Cosmic Dancer and have it on some playlists. Nice experience listening to this album.
Bang A Gong was the beginning of my hippie awakening as a teen. So fun to hear the rest of this album. I like the vocalist & really did enjoy, but many of the songs sounded the same.
That's nice
Solid glam fun.
Really enjoyed it, pleasantly surprised! Will definitely listen to again.
Han plockade ner skylten alltför ung. Flera fina spår på den här plattan.
Some nice rock, definitely easy on the ears. However, I prefer something that goes a little harder.
Another album that started off enjoyable. This one ended very annoying.
Sounded like a bridge between the Beatles and Bowie
I can't remember. Was probably okay .
T3B 1. Bang a Gong (Get It On) 2. Planet Queen 3. Rip Off
Its fine, but kind of a one-note thing. 3/5
It was good. Didn't seem that special, but I also didn't read about it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3/5
First time listening to a T-Rex album all the way through. It seems like a solid proto-Bowie sound and I may well come back to it
actually pretty good proto indie rock 3.5
5/10 not really something great, but it's good background music
Good not great. Between a 3 and a 4
The cover would indicate a heavier sound, but this album still kicks. It has a mellow charm, that easily ramps up when need be. Distorted guitar followed by clean acoustic like strumming maximizes the feel of this album. The drummer knows how to fill, with quick bursts instead of tiny taps merging parts of songs together. This album must have been “cool” when it came out. Its pretty cool now.
I prefered Slider over that one. Interesting listen but did not quite stick with me.
never heard - pretty cool 3 stars
Interesting album. Apparently it the group was super popular in the UK and Get it On was their only major US hit. I can only recall one song that isn't in my standouts, but I liked those well enough, so I'll say pretty solid overall. Standouts: Cosmic Dancer, Monolith, Get it On, Life's A Gas
Eh. Recently listen to the Your Fav Band Sucks podcast on this band, so that could be affecting my opinion.
It sounds like the happy seventies of flares and top of the pops
Some good tracks and a good sound overall, but I’ve never thought it was a banger.
Sleazy, starry-eyed fun.
Interesting enough.
Enjoyed the album, very reminiscent of my parents when we were really young. Better fuzzy guitar than I remembered, and similar to buzzard buzzard buzzard
Good, not amazing. Very influential, but I prefer what came next
Not too bad
Beetje veel van het zelfde, maar wel oké
Semi-Ashamed of what i didn’t realize was Marc Bolan influenced. Knew he and Bowie were buds, but never having gotten into T.Rex, didn’t realize that what i love about Siouxsie and Joy Division, and (super red face) the Ramones comes from this guy.
2tracks in..If you told me this was a new louisxiv recording I’d believe you. Slick dogs and ponies was clearly influenced heavily by this track, and trex in general. I only have a greatest hits of trex, and while I let it play I don’t pop it on much, there are some great sounds in here though. I guess like meatloaf the album artwork doesn’t match the music for me. By the end I was a little bored, nice enough with the odd hit, but what feels like filler. Cherry picking tracks for me in future
Not bad but not super exciting either. A couple of good tracks.
Penis Music Falls off in the second half, but the first few songs are really really good
Pretty cool album, I’ll look for more stuff from this band
I thought I would like this album more since Bang a Gong is such a Banger (pun intended). Sadly, the rest of the album doesn't live up to that track and I found it to be nothing more than decent background listening.
3.4/5. Just ok, a fairly generic rock album. Not bad, just not something I'd listen to again.
It was pretty good but not really my type
Too repetitive
Good instrumentals, loved the blues rock beats in the few songs that had them. The lyrics are repetitive and boring throughout the album as well as oddly confusing. The lyricism was major problem for this album.
Liked: Monolith Lean Woman Blues Girl Production is great
Helemaal niks mis mee, die T.Rex!
Up-close vocals and laid back instrumentation make this effortlessly cool in the way Roxy Music could never pull off. The tracks that don't sound like Bowie are better than the Bowie-esque ones and the album as a whole is yet to be thoroughly mined for 21st Century Hipster Cinema soundtracks.
Bang a Gong is a great song. The rest was enjoyable but not something I'll go back to.
This album is overall an enjoyable album with some cool rock sounds. Nothing outstanding but solid
Bang a gong is amazing. You knew the other songs on this album were by the same band, but without the same magic. It wasn't bad, just nothing else "good".
I didn't hear much that I didn't expect from T. Rex. I love Jeepster even though I don't know what it means exactly.
He's the king of the effortlessly cool guitar riff
The early notes of slacker rock take hold here, each track unhurried but delivered with clear focus and enchanting progressions. This does mean a few tracks last a bit longer than they should (a minute could easily be chopped off most of the tracks here), but the earnest and lyrical storytelling + varied instrumentation mean even the overlong tracks float by enjoyably.
Good rock album but not every song was great.
I was impressed by Slider, but this one is more dull. Anyway, Cosmic Dancer is a legend.
I feel like I have become out of step with the daily album. I didn't even see this one...
All the songs I didn't know made me think "Yep, this sounds like a song by the group that did 'Bang a Gong (Get It On)'"
This was whelming. Apparently it's a radical change from their old folk sound (though multiple track still sound like folk...to give credit though, many do NOT), and it's the first "glam rock" album. Those portions were entertaining from a historical standpoint. Interesting band history, not much more to say but I especially enjoyed the last song.
I'm your cosmic dancer, a dancer for galaxys, i'll dance anywhere you want me to dance. Except Mars. I didn't remember to make reservations on the Musk shuttle. Don't really know why, but this kind of appeals to me.
chill and nice. 3 or 4 stars. not a relisten soon though.
3/5 decent album
While I generally consider T Rex way overhyped, I will admit this album contains some decent music.
Solid rock album, but no strong feelings either way.
Good stuff. 3.3/5.
Get it on (Bang on a Gong) is familiar song to me. I like the sound and style of the album. Definitely will give it a second listen. The band interview at the end talking about the album is such a cool concept that I wish more bands did and I'm sad that didn't take off.
3/5
La seule que je connaissais (cosmic dancer) est celle que j'ai le moins aimé
Interesting glam rock. Get it On is great of course. But I thought it was the only standout.
7/10 Best song - Life’s a Gas
Nice swinging pop-rock with some bluesy elements. Get It On is a classic and Cosmic Dancer was a pleasant surprise. The album can be repetitive at times with repeating basslines and very little progression within tracks.
3.5
OK
finely tuned yet sparse pop grunge rock. a fine record that's become generic over time
Fav Song: Mambo Sun
Good catchy start Good album. Good for listening to while working.
Not a bad listen, but probably won't seek it out again
With Get in On as a strong single, it is generally a good album with a really cool atmosphere. The vocals are spooky, the guitar riffs are bluesy but have their own authentic sound. The tempo is a bit slow throughout which makes the album drag on a bit however.
Decent album that while never annoying, also fails to make a big and lasting impact
good
Much more subdued than "The Slider", which I got earlier in the list. Reminds me of Bowie and the Velvet Underground, maybe a little more rambunctious. Some good tracks, but neutral feelings overall. Favorite tracks: "Get It On", "The Motivator", "Jeepster"
Great
Good fun, some songs grabbed me, others not so much, but overall enjoyable.
Rock clásico. Voz característica. Ritmos suaves y tranquilos.
I've likely only heard one song by T-rex before this. If I had heard the first song on the radio, I would have known instantly it was T-rex. I was thinking, kind of a one trick pony. Several songs fit the bill. A few didn't.
This was alright. Enjoyable but didn't really blow my mind or anything.
It's ok
T. Rex sounded like a familiar name, but I wasn't sure if I've heard anything from the band. As soon as the first track began playing I recognized the voice and sound of the band. That's when I realized that I know the track "Get It On". "Cosmic Dancer" sounded a familiar, but maybe it's the distinct voice of the lead singer. I'm not a fan albums that are full of multiple 'love' songs. "Jeepster" was a weird love song, and definitely my least favorite track. The rest of the tracks keep this album in the 'okay' range, I guess.
Actually quite liked it. Very 80s vibe with some cracking songs in the middle
I'm kinda surprised at how different T-Rex sounds to all the SHIT that existed in the UK in the early 70s. Can definitely hear why every glam band ever cites them as an influence. It still doesn't quite escape the shadow of bands like The Beatles and beach boys etc though, you can hear them in there a fair bit. 3/5.
War nicht meine Band ... die Songs waren trotzdem Ohrwürmer ... heute kann ich die immer noch gut hören.
I prefer The Slider personally but perhaps this album is more influential.
One-hit wonder
This album has good rhythm and is pretty catchy. 1 recognized song
Carino ma non il mio genere
The distinctive sound and clever lyrics that made Bang a Gong fun and memorable, are spread too thinly over way too many lifeless and repetitive songs.
I've always found T. Rex to be a little hit or miss, but the good songs are fantastic. Plenty of good ones here...enough to warrant three stars.
get it on, girl good tunes rest generic rock and roll
Cool sound. “Life’s a Gas” and “Rip Off” made me think I was listening to Modest Mouse.
Track 01 - 2.75/5 Track 02 - 1.25/5 Track 03 - 3/5 Track 04 - 3/5 Track 05 - 3.25/5 Track 06 - 3.75/5 Track 07 - 2/5 Track 08 - 1.5/5 Track 09 - 2.25/5 Track 10 - 4/5 Track 11 - 3.5/5 Track 12 - ?? Track 13 - 3.75/5 Track 14 - 3.5/5 Track 15 - 3.75/5 Overall: 3/5
yup
Good old banger. Mix of drumbest vocals and rarer instruments
Solid 3/5. Not necessarily anything that I need to revisit but not terrible.
Very fun guitar work. I can see myself learning some of this stuff
Not all great but Get It On is up there with very best.
Eh, this is fine. Nothing bad or good about it.
Very tight. Not as energetic as one might expect the "first glam rock album" to be, but I liked that: It's clearly historic, and a well-aged pop project.
This album is perfectly fine, until you get to Get It On, at which point it becomes a STONE COLD CLASSIC (TM).
Start of journey / first out of 1001
Bit samey. Better than I thought
3,5/10
Very good, enjoyed this a lot.
Good listen but slightly too long
It was ok
Most of the songs were pretty fun. Don't know if I'll listen to the whole album again, but maybe. Particularly liked: Mambo Sun, Get it on.
Enjoyed this more than expected!
I like it, a few great tracks on here. 'Get it on' is a classic
Fun dad rock, nothing groundbreaking
pretty uniformly the same, but groovy.
-Mambo Sun -Cosmic Dancer -Jeepster -Life's A Gas
I like the over all sound of the album. Gong seems to sound different from the rest of the album, not surprised that was the single. A lot of the songs seemed to build up to nothing. Like I was expecting a big hook or chorus but didn’t get it.
Always enjoyable finding a classic song that I never knew the artist. Some of the songs on this album are great. (Mambo sun and Bang a Gong) Some songs are ok but lacking that quality to get to the next step. Pretty good album just shy of great. 7.2/10
I had only heard Bang a Gong before. The other songs were wonderful.
Interesting album. I was familiar with one song, but not really the band. It was a decent album.
I really liked it it but it didnt blow my mind
Not a lot of thoughts. Pretty decent overall. Is great music only great in context (apparently what makes this great is pioneering glam rock)? Without that context, it's only okay. Favourite song: "Cosmic Dancer"
Never listened to T. Rex but super excited to check them out. UPDATE: This is getting way more rockabilly than I thought it would but I dig it.
Early Glam rock. Enjoyable songs, slow melodies with some good riffs
I love the drums and the spacey sound on the first couple of tracks. Gives me a "Space Oddity Vibe". Then it takes you right into the upbeat bluesy groove of Jeepster. Could be a great vinyl own. I love the steel guitar!
Idk yet its probably ok
Beste sanger: Get It On, Girl (litt Bowie-vibber) og Jeepster.
Chill musikk. Sitter ikke igjen med så mye etter å ha hørt på det, men har ikke noe imot å høre på det igjen sammen med gjengen.
The late great Marc Bolan & T Rex
Ok, not-bad, enjoyable rock. But completely unspectacular and unmemorable. Seems like these guys are only on this list because of their image/personas, which is fine of course. But that doesn't really come across the same way when listened to on Spotify 50 years later.
Alright but didn’t blow me away
It was pretty good. Bang the gong is definitely a classic. The rest was a little too 70’s for me
I thought this was a solid album.
brit pop always takes me there
