Thin voice, sonically flat. Not my jam this one.
I failed Dusty Springfield for having an album of nothing but covers, and I'll do it again to Willie. In this case, though, it was much easier to do since this was also boring as suck and, frankly, irrelevant. A completely wasted entry that could and should have been filled by any of the so many other ORIGINAL acts missing from this busted list. That sounded a lot angrier than I wanted... but still... damn...
Snooz
Not my thing really.
A waste of time
Mellow, a little annoying, good for evenings or for rides to the bedlam when you check yourself in. When I listened to Georgia on my mind I do wanted to listen to ray charles version instead. Very badly.
No lo escuché, me niego
This is rough. Willie Nelson seems like a genuinely great guy, but this is peak cheesy music. None of these covers land — they all feel uninspired. Painfully boring.

not bad but absolutely not my taste. voice rankles me and all songs kinda samey. didn't finish.
Trasg saai klink wel oke niet album afgemaakt
With Willie Nelson I could have stomached country but middle of the road crooner set to elevator music I can skip If this was an playing in a bar I’d leave as I was waiting for my Guinness to settle Just when I was thinking I was too generous as I had no 1 star ratings
Some more tired Willie. Some classic old tunes covered here. Problem for me is I’m listening to my old drunk uncle trying karaoke at a wedding.
Wimp
Georgia would never and is never on my mind. And it should not be on anybodys mind. This was worse than the Beatles. I hate this. Help. 0/10. 0.00%

Awful sentimental syrupy cover versions. Nothing interesting or remarkable, or at least not in the first 3 tracks - couldn’t stomach any more than that.
An old American man singing old American songs, slowly. I guess the music would be fine as background music in a really old fashioned restaurant, but the old man singing would be distracting. Actually I just checked and I can't believe this is being sung by a 44 year old. He sounds like he's about to keel over at any moment. I found this painful to listen to.
An album of pop covers from a country legend? Ok. Some albums are hard to play through when all you can do is think of all the music you’re not listening to in order for you to be able to rate it correctly on this app. This is so dull and I’m only on track 4. Atleast the album is under 40 minutes but, oh boy, the last 15 minutes have felt like all morning so far… Ah, the relief when the album has obviously finished and a song you enjoy from one of your actual playlists comes on to ease the pain…
First time that I've not finished an album. I'll give it maybe another try this week, but it was really boring to me
I've refused up to now to question why an album might be on the 1001 list so I'm not going to start now. But what the fuck? An old bloke singing other people's songs all in exactly the same style. A vanity project that could have been recorded by any karaoke singer with a few dollars to burn? This is an album you would play to your Granny as you sit by her deathbed. AHHH now I get it! This IS the actual 1001st album! (edit: Ok I've reassessed. This isn't in the same shit league as Eno or Cohen. He has a nice voice and it's harmless even if it IS boring. Gonna boost this to a 1½

With all these Jazz standards on the album, I’m afraid Willie Nelson is no match to the Jazz greats who went before….
I often enjoy covers, good to hear a different take on the original. Broadly speaking I thought Nelson didn't really add anything new or interesting and some of the covers were actively worse than the original
This is what they played in courage the cowardly dog
I know Willie Nelson more from his image than his music so i was looking forward to some Outlaw Country to see if his reputation held up. This album does not do anything for me.
Couldn't wait for this one to finish, sorry Willie...
Not for me
Totally boring.
Very boring
I have yet to hear an album of "standards" that doesn't bore me. . .
Willie Nelson is a better songwriter than he is a singer, so this album was doomed to fail from the start.
Slow, boring
Covering a lot go classic great songs in a way that makes them all sound the same
Why? Did he really need to prove how bad he is at cover?
Not for me Not genre Far too slow and all one paced
Willie does easy listening cover songs Feels like being trapped in a Mall for Seniors Unchained Melody should have been so much better Sadly reveals what a limited vocal range he has In fact largely spoken rather than singing Nothing for me here
Willie Nelson has so many great albums and so many great songs why do we get an embarrassing collection of soft jazz covers?
1978 It's a massive "No" from me... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ in part Revisit ❌️ nope No ★☆☆☆☆ (2/10)
Not a fan
I didn’t think I needed a Willie Nelson album. I really didn’t need a Willie Nelson album of covers - some of which are not good. 1/5
Its my problem, not Willie's. I'm just not into him.
Inte min grej, tråkigt
Dont hit me, Not loud, no Energy. Sorry Willie
This is a weird one for me, I like Willie Nelson generally, I like his songwriting and his voice, but this album just didn’t do it for me, I think maybe knowing they aren’t his songs kinda brought it down a bit, but one I don’t feel like I’ll be revisiting
This could be on Sesame Street. The Rainbow Connection could be on this album. It's fine, just not a must hear genre.
Willy. No. Especially after listening to Ramblin' Jack Elliott.
No thank you, this just ain’t my rodeo.
Was I just in the wrong mood? Genuinely surprised that people like this. If you're going to cover all your favourite songs, please add something to them, rather than distilling them down until they all sound pretty much indistinguishable from each other. Admittedly, I don't know much WN music; I know who he is, but that's all. So perhaps there was some context to the choices he made here? Apart from Sunny Side briefly lifting my spirits (and securing a grudging extra star) I found this very dull. (Update. Changed my mind about the extra star over the weekend.)
Just plain boring
Nope.
A whole album of bad covers. Didn't need any of this.
This is really too representative of this list: a legend of American music (honestly a legend only within the boarders of the USA) covering standards of American pop music. Very self-centered. Truth is: this album is boring, that's the kind of boring music you'd have in a lounge bar or whatever. I started to write that it is not that bad, but after 4 songs it's driving me mad. I might not be in the right mood to listen to it, but this kind of chill stuff tends to make me angry.
Not my sort of thing
Really not for me. Found it with boring
No no no! I really think most of these songs should stay with the original singer. He doesn’t do much for them. I do like the harmonica though. I guess his die hard fans made this album popular?
Not sure what all the hype is. Was he 100 years old back in the '70s?
Willie Neson's voice.
Sounds like a retirement home. I can listen once but no more. I get the vibe of the album but it's not interesting. I don't hate Willie Nelson but I think i hate this. His voice is usually not good however this is just bad.
Not my vibe
Dreadful
Awful! I was hopeful when I saw Willie Nelson’s name but before the first song had even hit halfway I knew I was in for a punishing listen and then it got worse. The songs took forever to get through and I kept checking how many were left until it was over.
1/5 not a fan
Ahhh Willie Nelson. The ol’ misty eyed traveller, the ol’ Red Headed stepchild, the big saloon, the peach tree cobbler, the grandiose bar mitzvah, the even more ol’ opry. One of those has to be right. Whatever. Modern country has led me to believe that I hate country music. Considering that I am both a Canadian and a person who has brain cells and a personality that doesn’t depend on branding, it’s been a tough sell. Older country that has appeared in my rotation (and in the Red Dead Redemption 2 soundtrack) shows that some of the folk roots still linger. Will ol Wiry Willie be a staunch folk appreciator? Or will he show an early foray into the glorified truck commercials (feat. Casual racism) that clog up the country charts today. Take it away. Is this about Cody Rhodes? I wish it was. This wasn’t it for me. Not enough going on for me. Doesn’t mean I need 10,000 bells and whistles, I just found it to be slow. Ugh a cover? Hoagy Carmichael is spinning in his grave. Nobody names their kids after sandwiches anymore. Truly a sign of the difficult times we live in. I dream of a world where little Meatball Marinaras roam the streets with their pals Footlong Hero and Cheesteak. Sinpler tomes. Or is it simpler times? You know. I just can’t remember. Sad. Oh no is this Khruangbin? No. It’s still Willie. Well. This is incredibly mid. The harmonica is surprisingly the best part of this album so far. This also sounds like a church hymns. And from a boring white church too. Are these all covers? I think this another one. I swear to god if Hoagy wrote this one, I’m going to visit his grave. Alright, so these are all “pop standards.” This is like the Ella Fitzgerald thing. Why? More on this later. I do somehow like the really bad recording of the kick drum. It sounds vaguely wet. Otherwise, I’m in tears of boredom. OPEN THIS PIT UP, WE’RE ABOUT TO GET UNCHAINED. Don’t say “I’ve hungered for your touch.” I’m calling the 1978 cops. They said they wouldn’t come unless they could shoot a minority repeatedly. How things stay the same. This song has pretty elements but it is also incredibly cheesy. A little too saccharine. This is for all my autumn heads. Remember when fall actually used to start in September? That was cool. Existential climate dread aside, Willie continues to mention other months in the September song. Lucky it’s not his, otherwise I’d have to throw down in the saloon. That falsetto burst on HAT. Got a genuine laugh out of me. Goldust mentioned. This truly is a Rhodes family reunion. This was silly. Talk about Hard Times. Loonies in a river, fallen cups of Tim Horton’s, moonlight in Thunder Bay. People who meet, to conduct fentanyl exchange, are so hypnotized by the purity of the cut. The geese cackle. Moonlight in Thunder Bay. Snap along everybody. Another mosh anthem. I have historically liked this song, so this will be telling. Yeah. Just as I suspected. Big Willie Style is boring the shit out of me. Willie sez “my girl is a disgusting monster, but it’s all I got. Especially if I keep releasing rehashed songs from the 20’s.” Man he doubles down on the “my girlfriend is ugly” rhetoric. Brother. Not good. Yeesh. Uhh this felt like it was playing at half speed. It’s easy to look back at Stardust and realize it was an album made to stuff shelves and sell to old people. I can almost guarantee that every thrift store in North America has at least three copies of this thing sandwiched between Perry Como’s second greatest hits and Mozart sung by the German Catholic Choir. These songs had no life, and were barely explored yet somehow interminable at the same time. I know now that these are reinterpretations, so it’s not that I am expecting original lyrics or even core melodies, but there is zero originality to the performances on this record. Take all of the copies of this record and crush them into a cube. Sell that cube to the highest bidder. Might as well squeeze one more cent out of this soulless heap. 1-1.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Learning the name Hoagy and picturing a big sandwich.
I’ve tried listening multiple times but idk why I can’t make it past the first couple of songs

Cute, but not my style. 1 star. XOXO -Maggie
Not my type of music... Country + Jazz
this guy is like the most one-dimensional singer in the world i cant fucking stand any more of these singer songwriter folk country fucking albums how many of them are here? you could group 100 of them into one album and just skip all this repetitive shit fuck man its so annoying it hurts me in my knees NNN
Very Radio 2. Not for me.

What’s the worst thing you can hear while you’re going down on Willie Nelson? “I’m not really Willie Nelson.”
i want to like it i just can't get into it nice to hear the album with Georgia on my Mind
An album chock full over pop covers sung by a stoner country guy is not what I would expect on the list. How this became such a chart topping, award winning, quadruple platinum album is insane. Too many old fogies buying this snooze fest? No more Willie please...1.1.
Unfortunately the second Willie Nelson album in two weeks. This is in line with the prior album. It's not bad by any means but doesn't move the needle for me at all. Really slow light country songs are made for someone but its not me. Nothing against Willie but two albums was all I need for the next 10 years. 1.30 stars
1- Stars (1/15)
Come back Billy Joel, all is forgiven! I guess you’ve got to be a fan of this music to endure listening to it. I mean, a reeeeeeally big fan! Beginning to wonder what Jim has got me into here!
Just really boring.
Me reet, next. 4/10
Standards? This is not my favorite Willy.
Not the vibe, sounds like some country thing.

Tergend....trage....gedateerde...covers.....
I can appreciate his voice, but found the album quite boring overall, more so knowing it was all covers and not a chance to discover more of his stuff?
My worst kind of music!... But then I heard Unchained melody and September song and thought, Wow did Willie write these?. No!... and he managed to make great songs terrible!
I tried. It’s Willie. I tried to appreciate this. But no.
Love Willie. Not a fan of this album
This is a big fat no no for me. Soulful songs brought in the most soulless way. It does not help that this is the kind of music my dad put on when I was younger. I hated it back then and still hate it now. Did not even finish the album
1.5 Good voice just incredibly boring
[Cash's "American IV"] ain't the same fucking ballpark. It ain't the same league. It ain't even the same fucking sport. Look, [Willie Nelson's "Stardust"] don't mean shit." Wertung: 🌟(🌟)/5
Dull. Couldn't wait for it to be over.
What's the point of this? Instantly forgettable covers.
Slow, boring Folk.
Slow and lumbering cover album, not sure what this is doing on here
Outlaw country genre... appearing pretty mainstream.
Soooo seicht. Brauchte da wer Geld? Puh.
Already know I don’t like his voice. Did not listen.
So cheesy - Saturday night karaoke!
Beyond disapointing.
Underwhelming
Not a fan of Willie, DNF
Tried giving this a go but I just can't manage what to my ears are sentimental country versions of well trodden standards. Sorry Willie.
The only thing that saved this album from not even being listened to, was the fact that this was a bunch of covers. I literally have no idea how Willie Nelson sold a single album. Every single cover he did on this album was worse than the original, and not by a little bit. The only good thing about Willie Nelson is that he uses his bafflingly unlikely fame as a tool for cannabis legalization.
Suitable for a rainy day (check) when I'm wanting to be in my depressive feelings (nope)
Nope.
Saaaai
This is fine, but I think if I wanted to listen to Willie Nelson, I'd rather listen to some of his outlaw country music, not him singing covers.
How many more flavours of country hell can there be on this list?
What is this and why is it here? Willie Nelson sings soppy covers? Really? Why do I need to listen to this?
I don’t like this style of music.
Basically sounds like a covers album sang by that guy Steve down the pub who does a bit of karaoke on pay day
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Felt like a run of the mill Willie album. 2/5 Update: this is a covers album? That knocks it down to a 1/5
Cover album or piano ballads, not my jam
Nelson has an amazing voice, but I hate this. Covering some of his childhood favorites, but in this restrained, I guess you could say classic way. The passion that makes so many of these songs great is gone. No crescendo. Flat.
Nah
Oh my god, what a horrible, horrible collection of cover versions! No wonder the record company weren't happy with it. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful. I was expecting so much better than this unlistenable pap.
country
not my taste, saved the first song tho, 2/10
Boring. I was expecting C&W and didn't even get that.
Nope, couldn't do it. I tried.
I don't get why this is on this list. Maybe I just don't get Willie Nelson but this really wasn't very good. One star
Meh…. Does nothing for me soz
I have never listened to Willie Nelson before... and this was definitely not the way to start. Learning that this album was his 22nd and he went against his label to make an all oldie covers album was interesting, but he adds nothing and the result is boring and sleepy. His voice is nice, but everything is too monotone and the songs just run together. Zzzzz 1.5/5
Boring trad-pop covers
Not really a fan. The unchained melody cover was particularly trite. Uphill battle to like country music anyway. But yeah, just not the one
Nope, I really didn't like it. Every song here has been done with more taste before.
Wow 36 minutes of Willie Nelson trying to be a crooner and failing badly. What on earth is this doing in the 1001 list?
p419. 1978. 1 star. Lazy, bland, middle of the road album of covers by a distinctly below average singer. This is background music for department stores. WTF is this doing on the list?
I don’t like country but when Willie does it it’s bearable because he has such an iconic voice. But when he does covers of shmaltzy pop songs it becomes unbearable. This sounds like a lazy money grab to me.
I know something about Willie Nelson by his name, and he is somehow crucial for American music history, but this was such a dull experience that I don't care too much about his importance. I wouldn't say I like it, but apparently, Nelson recorded almost 80 albums. So maybe I'll try some of them in the future.
There isn’t a single track on this album which either improves the original, or failing that, at least showcases it in a different & interesting way. Some are saccharine karaoke poor & his rendition of ‘On the Sunny Side of the Street’ is nothing short of an abomination. Considering the amalgamation of time, effort & talent that went into it’s making, this must be one of the most pointless albums ever released.
Approached this with an open mind. But tbh it was pretty poor. Covers without real reinvention is not what this list is about.
Nope, not good
Willie is a classic and an American legend. But do I need to listen to him do a bunch of covers? I would die without needing to listen to this album.
A bit dull
Nah.
Why not name this Classic Covers? I get so confused by who is the writer or presenter. This album was a great way to open eyes 👀 to country singing. But not a big Willie fan Lots more “twanging” talent out there, then & now. Willie is definitely talented in replicating music but in the years after this he shows a lot more talent and teaches the world what Country music is. Did like the rendition of Unchained Melody!
Reminds me of music you would hear in a particularly bland starbucks at christmas.
Sorry, I don't like this music.
No country pls.
Too slow, not the biggest country fan
Vercshrikkelijke bingo muziek
Masturbatory schlock. This album takes lovely jazz standards and turns them into uninspired warbly lounge music.
What a boring album. If you had asked me about Willie Nelson, all I knew would have been about his persona as a chilled, weed-smoking grandpa. So I was hoping for maybe some interesting psychedelic country, but this is just smaltzy overproduced cover version. This kind if shit is why people say they hate country
Yeah no thanks
Slappe zooi... Op naar de volgende!
auch nicht.
not my style
Wow, that was slow. May cause fatigue!
Not a big country fan. Please, next.
country crooner sings sinatra style songs
I feel like I'm in Benidorm.
Not my bag. This is basically easy-listening for old stoners. Musically, it is one step above the music-man playing covers on an all-in-one Yamaha keyboard in your local mall. Production is high (pun intended), with backing strings and horns and the annoying harmonica guy leaning against the back wall. There are many covers on the album, the title track is a cover.. lame.
Album didn't interest me, didn't listen to most of it.
This was shit.
I’m never a big fan of Willie’s vocals but the arrangements were fun and different.
