Really relaxing and wholesome album. Can’t say there was a song I didn’t enjoy.

I loved this album. Listened on the plane after taking some NyQuil and it helped me peacefully drift off the sleep. 4/5

Merry Christmas! This was a surprisingly really fitting album for this day. It was a very nice, chill experience. Willie Nelson's one of the few country artists that I can listen to. One of the best cover albums of all time - also coincidentally one of the best album covers of all time. Funny how that works out. I'm a master wordsmith.

I didn’t expect to see a cover album on this list. On “Stardust”, Willie Nelson covers many pre-1960 vocal standards. However, he does a good job at changing up the sound on these tracks. There’s a really soulful, country-tinged vibe.

I'm just not a huge fan of Willie's voice.

Ugh, all sound a bit the same to me, and not even in a good storytelling way. Beautiful voice and production though.

Mellow and melodic, but I struggle with Willie's voice. It's just that shaky old-but-not-actually-old-at-the-time-of-recording little lost lamb voice. I enjoy his jazzy guitar leads, but not enough to push this past a 3.

"Country singer tries his hand on the Great American Songbook and other classics and succeeds". That would be a fitting headline. The album's mood is relaxing, calm and soothing, most of the songs are expertely arranged, played and sung. Unchained Melody sadly cannot reach the origninal recording by the Righteous Brothers and should have been left alone and off this collection. But apart from this single misstep, this is really a great album. 4/5

This surprised me, having never listened to a Willie album. Really good listen. 3 T3B 1. All of Me 2. Blue Skies 3.

It’s a mildly enjoyable album. A few standouts but for the most part it’s tough to find much memorable about it. I do enjoy the richness of Willie’s voice, and the lyrics are also really peaceful. 5/10

Willie is so smooth!

Well, I was not expecting a cover album, so this was a bit of a surprise. I wish I could say it was a pleasant surprise, but "On the Sunny Side of the Street" was the only track that really caught my ear, apart from "Georgia on My Mind." Sadly, the latter did so because it couldn't hold a candle to Ray Charles' version (but that's not a knock on Willie specifically—no one sings that song like Ray). I wanted to like this album, as I respect Willie as a person, but if this album's any indication, it appears his music just isn't my thing. Just too countrified for my taste.

Some beautiful tracks on this record, but (and not knowing its history) it really feels like a cashout album. By this I mean, at the height of someone's popularity they put a record out that is more about them performing some songs to sell records. A quick win. Less substantive than an album whose total experience is some kind of artistic accomplishment. Willie Nelson has had those in his long career, I'm sure. But Stardust is not one of them. It's a good listen. Easy on the ears and charming. On occasion it delivers real feels, but it also feels forgettable as an album even if some of the tracks are quite memorable e.g. Stardust and Georgia on My Mind.

I generally speaking hate albums of pop covers. But this is Willie and he gets a little leeway.

This is just a bad idea, plain and simple. I won't give it a 1 because it's more bearable than the albums I've given 1 to.

I don’t like country but when Willie does it it’s bearable because he has such an iconic voice. But when he does covers of shmaltzy pop songs it becomes unbearable. This sounds like a lazy money grab to me.

Very pleasant, gently sung and played. Not exactly ground breaking and i'd always choose other more classic versions of these standards, but completely inoffensive.

Maybe because this style has come back a bit with other artists like Bill Calahan (who does a much more interesting version), I found this quite boring.

Willie Nelson!? Ugh... this is going to be a chore. *2 seconds in* - Ok, damn, those are some smooooth vocals. Yeah. Ok, I really like this. I'm not convinced by the entire album, but there's some really lovely tracks in here.

Nice and soft and sweet

I know something about Willie Nelson by his name, and he is somehow crucial for American music history, but this was such a dull experience that I don't care too much about his importance. I wouldn't say I like it, but apparently, Nelson recorded almost 80 albums. So maybe I'll try some of them in the future.

This is more or less a default rating. An album full of sweet slow dance songs. Very much not my genre. This didn't convince me and I didn't find it particularly compelling to try and analyze. Was all quite same-y.

If I hear blue skies one more time I will lose it, apart from that pretty good

Great cover album by Willie Nelson.

Good god this is beautiful. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much but the production is so clean and warm, and the arrangements are just beautiful. I know this is a record of pop standards, but Nelson really really fucking nails them. Beautiful altogether.

This is not what I expected. The album really doesn’t sound like country music at all. It has kind a dreamy, jazzy quality, enhanced by the use of orchestral instruments, drum brushes, and jazz changes. The sound is also much fuller than I had expected. Nelson’s voice is pleasant even if his range is a little limited, and for the songs he performs it works well. I came in expecting Waylon Jennings but this honestly has more in common with Elton John. The album overall is a little light and a little slow but an enjoyable listen.

Stardust showcases perfectly why Willie Nelson is one of the best country artists out there. The minimal instrumentals let his voice guide the album effortlessly from one song to the next, and you've gone through all 10 songs before you know it.

The tempo of the album is too slow for me. Not the greatest fan of country either even though i don't mind it. There's really nothing to grasp on in this album for me. The singer sounds great and that's about it. Every song (that i managed to listen to) were just plain boring with nothing special in them, which is just made worse that they're covers.

A bit too slow and chill for my taste, but otherwise good.

I don't know who were the authors of almost all of these songs, but these covers were extremely beautiful! I think I can't give this album 5 stars, since some of the songs were a bit forgettable, but it is a record than can be definitely listened over and over. Also, the cover art is pretty iconic.

Pleasant melodies, drenched in melancholy. Sad boy vibes that remind me of Nick Drake/Elliott Smith. I also really like the album cover, it's very soothing to look at and fits the mood of the album well. Not something I'd willingly listen to again all the way through, though may check out a couple songs again.

I had never heard of the artist or this record but I was pleasantly surprised. Although none of the songs are original, they still sound great and Willie Nelson brings so much style and flair to these classic songs. A very beautiful listen and I'm very impressed by what Willie Nelson was able to produce here. Favorite Track: All of Me, Georgia On My Mind Least Favorite Track: Don't Get Around Much Anymore

Blue Skies and All of Me are standouts. The arrangement is generally sparse, letting Willie do his thing. On the Sunny Side of the Street is another highpoint.

There isn’t a single track on this album which either improves the original, or failing that, at least showcases it in a different & interesting way. Some are saccharine karaoke poor & his rendition of ‘On the Sunny Side of the Street’ is nothing short of an abomination. Considering the amalgamation of time, effort & talent that went into it’s making, this must be one of the most pointless albums ever released.

Really loved this. Great covers that maintain a calm vibe with beautiful instrumentation and even the vocals were much better than I was expecting. Will be revisiting for sure

Not big on cover albums. Nothing special about this.

Approached this with an open mind. But tbh it was pretty poor. Covers without real reinvention is not what this list is about.

Ugh, how dreadfully pleasant. Apparently these songs are all pop classics but I’m only familiar with Unchained Melody. I thought that was a pretty powerful song but he’s stripped it of any emotion, energy, vocal range or passion. The more I listen/think about it the lower my score gets. If this Outlaw County I hate to think what shit the In-laws are doing.

Mixed feelings on this album. There's a beautiful simplicity to Willie's renditions of these songs. I also found myself hearing - and more often than not - wishing I was listening to the original versions of these songs compared to the covers on this album. I appreciate Willie's efforts to connect with his older audience and introduce his younger audience to classic songs, but I felt most of these songs fell short of their originals.

Willie Nelson has one of the most unique voices in Country Music. I thought this dialed back production of these American Standards suited Willie's voice well. That being said, I was not crazy about these renditions.

There's something about Willie Nelson's voice that just makes me happy. Corny as hell but there it is. Not a country fan per se, but this sort of old/raw style suits me just fine. I think there are better Willie Nelson albums - this one being an album of cover tunes from his childhood which was about 371 years ago - but there's such a relaxing feel to this that it's just simple enjoyment...and the album cover suits the material perfectly. Makes you feel like sitting on a back porch at night with some Willie Nelson and just staring at the sky. 6/10 3 stars.

Loved this record.

What a surprise! I thought Nelson was only a country singer. He gives these classics a stellar performance, smooth and personal at the same time. Worth a repeat!

Imagine naming your whole album after a song you're just covering. The few songs I recognized, I think I prefer the original versions (especially Stardust and Unchained). In principle, I don't respect albums that are just covers AS much as original songs. But the album was still very enjoyable to me, and I could see myself peacefully and pleasantly listening to this album again. It does have a magic to it. Adding an old-timey country touch to these classic adult standards works well.

Interesting and unexpected album. Willie Nelson takes these standards and makes them his own in every way. I had never realised some of these were cover versions.

Wonderful album, he's got a great voice as always and the band is incredible.

Fifth album I own on vinyl, and one of only 2 Willie Nelson records on this list. Personally I think that Phases and Stages should have been included at minimum, and other candidates could be Shotgun Willie, Willie and the Family Live, or even Waylon and Willie. But anywho, I do love this record, but the more I listen to it, I notice that Side 2 tends to meander. I don’t care as much for those songs. But this is nevertheless a really good LP. 3.75 stars

Absolutely wonderful country music from Willie Nelson. I'm instantly sold as my first exposure to his music and plan to check out his new album, which I've also heard is great. This really is "watching the stars" kind of music.

Pretty interesting experiment to take music standards and put together a stripped down country western version. All pretty successful, and is easy to enjoy.

interesting to see such a successful album of only covers. Definitely thought some of these were Willie's. A few standouts, the rest feels mostly novelty. Great arrangements and worth the list for the story of it's creation and success I'd say.

The dance will end in a chuckle at how silly but dreamy it was to be absorbed into that moment.

Some classic Willie renditions of even more classic songs. In the end, if I'm listening to Willie I'll take the outlaw cowboy stuff over pop covers. But it was ok.

I don't get the love. Its lame, lazy and tired. I can imagine it being played in the elevator of some cheap hotel. Country superstar plays non country songs. Hurrah Well done. I'm tempted to give it my first one. But won't 1.75. PS J Cash does this concept with balls.

Diese kleine Garstigkeit soll nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass ich ihn für einen sympathischen Typen und versierten Musiker halte, der sich der Sache verschrieben hat. Mir ist das alles zu konventionell, die Nähe zum Country tut ihr übriges. Aber seinen Django hat er ganz offenbar gehört.

This was very "easy listening" and Nelson's voice sounds thin compared with other classic country artists.

I'm a big swing-era jazz fan so I'm very familiar with many of these songs. This was a very interesting experiment. I think it worked sometimes and other times didn't. Can't stay I particularly enjoyed the country aesthetic to these jazz songs, but I applaud the effort.

Another hotel bar restaurant, but a bit more lush, with a grand piano and plenty of plants. Fave: Blue Skies

Willie Nelson just seems like such a friendly and interesting guy, he'd smoke a joint with you and really go out of his way to get to know you. This was a really nice album, a collection of oldies covers, big band, jazz, but Willie puts his stamp on it and you have these beautiful acoustic renditions with some fantastic understated guitar work and his trademark voice with a bit more crooning going on. This was such a nice listen, and didn't overstay it's welcome at under 40 minutes.

Peerless country soul

Nelson makes this sound so easy, the whole project seems like kind of a softball pitch. Classic songs, straightforward arrangements, mostly voice and guitar. But the product is incredibly pleasing which hints I think that the simplicity is deceptive. Nelson nails every song and shows his great versatility as an artist.

Ok but slow. All pop covers, which is a weird pick for my 1st Willie Nelson, but ok.

I've not listened to Willie before and I'm not sure a cover album is the best starting point to be honest. Sure, he's a good singerss but so are plenty of people and the performances aren't absolutely out of this world. Without any original material to elevate it, the album can't really rise above "decent".

Like listening to my least favourite Gram Parsons songs. Would be ok in the background in a cafe... not offensive but very much backgound music

A trip in the past to hear some wonderful songs by one of the best storytellers.

Beautiful album art. I'm expecting a pretty album of sweet possibly melancholy songs about love. Looking at the track list I'm sensing this is an album of standards? Some lovely choices. I think I'm in for some low key pleasantness. As the first, eponymous track plucks out its sweet beginning I can tell immediately this is going to be a pretty little gem. If you are Willie Nelson and you can do what you want, why not make something nice for people to drink wine and get old together to? Warm and wonderful; he makes it seem so easy. Did this album change the world? No. Does it make the world just a little nicer? Yes. I'm glad to have listened and will probably get it out from time to time when the circumstances are just so.

While not typically my genre, this was very good.

A delightful, utterly charming set of covers that would make you believe that they were Willie originals. On an impeccable run during his immersive outlaw country era, Stardust finds Willie at the top of his game. Seek this out when you have the chance. Favorites: Stardust, Georgia on My Mind, Blue Skies, All of Me, Unchained Melody, September Song.

So I thought Willie Nelson was country. But he's like Tom Waits light. It's all a bit weird innit and then suddenly it turns into an advert for a payday loan with the whistley happy song. Think I would possibly like it if I tanned the album. Sounds like it's probably a grower (that's what she said).

I really enjoyed this album. Of course, by enjoyed, I mean tolerated it. By tolerated I mean I'd rather be waxed from head to toe by an angry Glaswegian smack head, then dipped into a bath of lemon juice, all the while Clive Tyldesley screams Gael Clichy's name down my ear and the sound of the England football band limply plays the theme tune from The Great Escape, than ever listen to it again.

At least I now know why he is more famous for smoking weed than he is for his music.

Best Song: Unchained Melody. Given that most versions of this song are intentionally and forcefully oversung, I enjoyed this more mellow rendition. Worst Song: Blue Skies. Too much reliance on the piano, and I wasn't a fan of the chorus. Overall: Sometimes the title and cover of an album sets an expectation of how the album will sound. Here, I expected an acoustic album, one you might expect to hear alongside a campfire under the stars. For that reason (and therefore perhaps unfairly), I was disappointed by the electric instrumentation on much of the album. I think the album would have been better if it were allowed to be more sparse so as not to draw away from Willie's often meek and subdued vocal delivery.

When I first saw Willie Nelson’s name I was a little bit apprehensive as I am not a fan of country and Western. This album is a lot better than that, it shows just how versatile he is as a singer covering very many different genres. Quite enjoyable as an easy listen .

Not nearly enough energy here to sustain interest for even a sub-40 minute LP. Nelson can write a great country ballad, but without any uptempo tracks in the mix to balance them out this album becomes a snoozefest real quick.

Do I love a good covers album, especially when it's all old, classic songs. Even though these aren't Willie Nelson's original songs, his emotions are so palpable. I feel so connected with these songs, some new to me, even after one listen. Every song is a hit. A beautiful album that includes genre hopping! Oh what can’t Willie Nelson do?

At the time, this album was likely seen as a risk; Willie already had a very successful, very deep country career, and this project was truly a departure from all of that. Willie found a way to take every song on this album, make them his own, and make them work for him. He did this without compromising his status as an outlaw country icon and without dishonoring the sweet spirit of the original versions. Willie's voice is so easy to listen to, and in covering some of these classics, he proved the easy listening quality of his voice can stand among the best of them.

Haven't listened to Willie Nelson before, and I've never heard an album with so many different covers kind of exploring someone's musical influences and history! Liked the music and the idea.

Amazing album, I love Willie's voice and guitar playing and I feel like this production is perfect for it. The song choices are awesome, basically Willie's favorite pop standards. Some people hate on albums with "covers" but these are musicians playing music, you get bonus points for writing the lyrics not deductions. Whose name do you recognize more Elton John or Bernie Taupin? I don't see much of a difference between their relationship and an artist who put out an album of "covers" as long as they make the music their own and aren't just a band playing exact covers in a bar.

Nelson's style matched Booker T. Jones' production perfectly and the result is a fairly simple album, but one that is beautiful from its cover until the last track. Can't really say I love all the songs, but Nelson personal choice of covers makes sense and made his vocal performances more passionate. "Georgia on My Mind" is the obvious classic here - creating another definitive version of a song that already had a definitive version with Ray Charles - but "Stardust" and "Moonlight in Vermont" are also worth noting.

A classic collection of standards. I'm a little confused why this album is included. It's a great album, no doubt, and I'm rating it a 4/5, much higher than a lot of albums on this list, but nothing on this album strikes me as particularly inventive enough to be included as an album I MUST hear. Even some bad 1 or 2 star rated albums, I can at least understand why they are included. But this really good album's inclusion just baffles me. Still, it's Willie and it's impossible not to like it (for me). Such a talented man. His version of Unchained Melody is my favorite (with Elvis' a close second). Elvis' is way more moving and powerful, but Willie's is way more intimate; it's a way a man would sing to his lover, not screaming in her face like Elvis.

I discovered Moonlight in Vermont a month ago and thought it was a recent Willie Nelson song. Here now I find this album and realise what a jackass I am.

This guy's voice is a gift. I mean, it doesn't matter what he sings. I even don't hate the cover of Under Pressure he did that was totally a misfire because his voice is so incredible. Country music is not my favorite genre, in fact, it may be my least favorite, next to whatever Brian Eno is, but there's something special about Willie. Here he goes back to covers, which is generally not the strongest form for an album. He does create a calming album here and stays away from typical country trappings and just makes these songs Willie. There's a lot to say for an album that can put you in a calm space, so I have to hand it to him there. I can't believe this album is from 1978 and it was his 22nd studio album! This guy's been rocking for a LONG time. The arrangements are nice, singer-songwriter style versions. It's an easy listen for sure.

Overall, pretty great, lovely and thoughtful and highly respectful (and thus somewhat predictable) interpretation. A little monotonous in tone as the album goes on. I don't recall if this was one of the records Willie had to pump out because of his tax issues or how different or surprising this would have seemed for Willie fans at the time.

Some of the songs are decent, but that's just because they're covers of classics. This artist doesn't really bring much to the table

Found it quite boring, basic covers of standards with no real interesting additions or reinterpretation.

I was around at the time in the 70s, though not yet very well aware of music beyond ABBA. I'm sure I heard about Willie Nelson not long later, but just as a scruffy outlaw country crooner and eventually as an enduring pothead legend. This record has caused me to question and adjust my concept of the cosmos a little. Released in 1978, his 22nd studio album, covers of his 10 most beloved pop standards, and rendered unexpectedly tender and sublime. It went hard against him image and made waves at the time; even now decades later I'm added to the list of those bewildered.

Easy listening standards performed by an icon in outlaw country. It was nothing to change my life, but I can't fault the execution. I knew of most of these songs without really knowing them, so I can't comment on how Nelson has/hasn't re-imagined them. But I can say I'm a big fan of Nelson's vocals throughout: simple and unadorned, but often gliding into a smooth croon that seems to perfectly suit the material. He seems to get to the "truth" of every song on here, emphasising the lyrics at their heart. Instrumentation is very pretty, particularly the harmonica at times- corny as it may be, it added some lovely melodic touches. "Georgia On My Mind", "All Of Me" and "Unchained Melody" are my highlights and the ones I'll be most likely to revisit. There's a yearning quality in the latter that Nelson achieves through his delicate phrasing and delivery. It was hardly an exciting listen, but none of it offended me, so I'm going to stick it bang-slap in the middle of the road.

When I was a kid, I HATED country music. Country music was my parents' music. You know what happens when you play country music backwards? Your wife comes back to you, your dog comes back to life and your truck miraculously gets fixed. My parents listened to country music of the time, in particular the group Alabama. But I remember hearing Willie Nelson on the radio, in particular "You Were Always On My Mind." I got back into Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash recently. Particularly with Cash being revitalized with producer Rick Rubin. Willie Nelson's cover of "The Scientist" is what made me want to look into his work. So the point is I had listened to this album before. It's a great album for Nelson, it complements his voice very well. Definitely well-done and great production.

Willie Nelson's voice isn't what you typically think of when you think good vocals. I mean, it's probably a 7 at best. But what he does with it and how his warbles can tug at your soul is pretty amazing. I normally don't like remakes (of classics or otherwise) but his (and Booker T's) interpretation and arrangement of them is great. I'm pretty sure this is one of Willie's records that my dad used to regularly play and while I didn't get it then, I get it now. A solid listen.

I would have way preferred this to be an album in Willie Nelson's trademark outlaw country style. Instead we get a bunch of covers of sappy, old, popular love songs. Still, even though it's not what I'd hoped for, this is pretty got. The songs may be more than sappy and the performance seemingly sparse, but the execution is flawless. It's not one that I'm likely to return to, but it was a great album for background listening during work.

Listened before? N Willie Nelson's 1978 Cover Album. This one was pretty good, but different for Willie. Pros: It's Willie Nelson! His voice was at it's peak here, and I believe he even won a Grammy for Georgia on My Mind. Good stuff. Cons: It's 100% slow songs. It's all covers, although, well-known ones. After doing his famous outlaw country stint in the early 70's, Willie Nelson says "fuck it" and does a bunch of standards. He does a Duke Ellington song on here! How novel! Songs here are peaceful and sweat. I love that Nelson went in a slightly country pop direction with the added strings to give the songs extra depth. Just really soothing listens from Ol' Willie here. It's especially warm and cozy with the guitar on this record. Simply wonderful.

I had never actually listened to Willie Nelson before this, and I did not expect this. Very beautiful and well put together album.

I don't like "standards". It's not that I think they're the absolute worst thing ever to happen in music (pretty much the entire top 40 of the last 5-6 years is worse alone) but I do find the sentiment, cheesiness, lack of creativity and just overall low-hanging-fruitness of them kinda sickening. It's kinda telling that, in 2021, they're generally reserved for bottom-feeders like Norah Jones and Michael Buble. So yeah. I also recognise that this comes from a different time, and maybe it wasn't such a load of kitschy shit for Willie to put this crap out in 1978. So I'm trying to keep an open mind here, although this being the second Willie Nelson album I've had this week (and the second that isn't any good) it is a bit of a struggle. Overall, at least it has the good grace to only go for half an hour. 2/5.

Oh, I love these songs so much. And Willie Nelson did, too, and he sang them on this album, and they're perfect. I will listen to this many times again. Hooray for a celebration of the most beautiful songs by a unique, lovely voice.

I am familiar with Willie Nelson. I have never listened to a Willie Nelson album, and I have never even heard of this one. What a surprise I had in store...I love this album. When I saw Willie Nelson pop up on the list, I wasn't excited. For most of my young life I found Willie's music very off-putting...not just the style of music, but his actual voice. I have matured to a point where I can listen to Willie Nelson, but I can't think of a time where I have ever sought to listen any of his music...but I just couldn't get enough of this album. The musical arrangements were extraordinary and Willie's delivery very special. It felt so gentle and heartwarming...just plain comforting. I am still stunned at how much I enjoyed listening to the album and I don't know why I ever would have, if not for this listening project! I want more!!

Thank you, 1001 Robot, for giving me this album today. It was a balm for my soul at the end of a sad week. There is a delicacy, a clarity, a precision to every note of this album. Tempos are steady, slow, and deliberate, giving a sense of being suspended in some warm, gooey, sweet syrup. These are some of my favorite standards delivered by musicians of the highest order. Perfection.

Outlaw Country and American Pop Standards would seem to be opposite ends of the musical universe. An unlikely musical wormhole, STARDUST masterfully unites these genres resulting in a truly beautiful and transformative album. I have heard all of the songs on this album before. But my experience of them has largely been as musical artifacts. I don’t think I ever felt particular connection to most of them nor would I have sought them out. Yet on STARDUST these songs resonated with me in an emotional way that they never have before. The album opens plaintively with a quiet guitar and Willie’s voice on “Stardust”. A quiet organ and drum instantly made me stop what I was doing and just sit back and enjoy. This is my favorite version of this song. The one song that I did feel previously emotionally connected to was “Georgia On My Mind.” Ray Charles’ version is perfect, definitive and always gives me chills. It’s one of those songs that I would have thought no one else should record. Willie’s incredible vocals over a beautifully subtle arrangement proves that wrong. The country harmonica solo feels like it should always have been there and the finale provides an exciting, perfect conclusion. When was the last time I ever considered “Moonlight In Vermont?” Yet this version is so beautiful that now I cannot get it off my mind. It could be that only an outlaw would have the audacity to record such an album at the height of his career. Willie has created a truly unique American classic. STARDUST is one of the most pleasurable albums I have ever experienced.

i like covers in general. i do not like that saccharine sweet smarmy thing that happened in the 70s. i have no real opinion on willie's music. but...i also have a super soft spot for jimmy druante - and even though september song isn't his, he's how i came to know it. and willie's version is pretty alright, gotta say. but...i also kinda hate what he did with moonlight in vermont. so there's that.

I feel like I should've liked this one more. Maybe the arrangements were just a little too "stringy" for me.

I didn't expect to like this album at all, as Willie Nelson is pretty far outside of my favorites list. However, this is a departure from his normal fare, covering a bunch of different tunes from different genres. I still don't like his voice, but this album made the best of it. 3 stars.

Willie does the standards! I loved this so SO so So so much. Funny story, when I first discovered this website, I made an account and this was the FIRST album that came up. I didn't end up listening to it by the end of the day, and I was so new to the site that I couldn't figure out how to go back. So I started a whole new account, and I've been waiting about a year for it to come back up. Georgia on My Mind, Unchained Melody, and Don't Get Around Much Anymore are tops.

songs very soothing all about a girl but not really in a sexual way but more in a caring and compassionate living way it was nice and calming

All the great ‘ol standards from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. A country singer doing all these great jazz & pop covers is so impressive and he put his special spin on each song. Gotta love this man. There is no other voice like Willie.

Why not name this Classic Covers? I get so confused by who is the writer or presenter. This album was a great way to open eyes 👀 to country singing. But not a big Willie fan Lots more “twanging” talent out there, then & now. Willie is definitely talented in replicating music but in the years after this he shows a lot more talent and teaches the world what Country music is. Did like the rendition of Unchained Melody!

Haven't listened to Willy before like this and I think it's safe to say he is the Frank Sinatra of country, just based on this album. A sad country boy reminiscing about love and loss and other country things.

An album of covers. I think that's a first for our list, even though we've had a lot of covers here and there. Excuse the pun, but this is a softer Willie than I expected. I do like this album, though I think I'd rather hear him in the more traditional country space. Regardless, some good renditions here of songs we all know and love. Favorite tracks: Georgia On My Mind, September Song, Blue Skies. Album art: Not much to speak of, but it's a nice starry night picture. Fits the title obviously. Not sure if it fits the music, but it's good to look at. 3.5/5

Smooth and easygoing vocals that give off the same vibe as American 50s classics like Sinatra. Nowhere as good though. Country sound doesn't go excessive like I'm used to. Great production by Booker T. But when all the songs use the same methods, you can tell which songs work well with their style and which don't. Turns out some work super well, but the majority either fall flat or rely too much on people knowing the covers or getting comfortable with Nelson's voice.

Willie Nelson's Stardust is a collection of more 'pop' style music than I was expecting from what I've heard of Nelson's country pedigree. The album was a lookback at his childhood, Nelson wanted to bring these songs to a new audience, along with bringing an older one back into the fold of listening to music again. Overall an enjoyable compilation album of covers which, similarly to its namesake, has a starry quality throughout. Best: Stardust; Unchained Melody Worst: On the Sunny Side of the Street

Listening to this is easy because Willie makes it sound easy. It's one of the least country albums I can imagine him making: Traditional instrumentation pokes its head up from time to time, but never all the way and always tastefully. On the Sunny Side of the Street has the best sonic blend going. As with coffee, I see little reason to choose the blend for myself, but it goes down great in the company of friends. His voice can easily convince you that he's that friend in this scenario. I don't think it sways my final impression, but the closer is crushingly affective.
