Reviews (page 12 of 13)

I wanna yank those redhead pigtails right off his stupid scalp

Sweet, but also boring

Seems to be Willie Nelson insisting on recording a handful of his own personal favourites, rather than finding covers that would actuallly fit him. Obviously there is the musicianship here as it should be, but weird picks, like Unchained Melody and All of me. He does not make a difference here.

Ja snap dat het impactvol is maarja

Stardust is slow sing-songy covers of popular country songs. Bound to be a commercial success, not sure that makes it worthy the 1001 must hear before ya die list. But here it is. To me, this is like Willie put out a Christmas album. Everyone is familiar with the songs and he’s a popular musician so it’s gonna sell. This one looses points for lack of originality. It’s not a bad album, but it’s country. (1.9*s)

I didn't recognize a single one of these songs as covers and also didn't know that Willie has this many albums (this being his 22nd). Off the bat this sounded way more jazzy and schmaltzy that I expected for him but I still didn't really need to hear it. It's not terrible but it's not good either. It's a weak, old, light 2.15.

Really don’t have much to say about this album. Pleasant listen but pretty boring.

Typically I would like this style This was pretty dull

I usually try and have an opening statement here, but I honestly can't this time. So I'll cut to the chase. This is a perfectly serviceable album, but it feels amazingly hollow. I think it's fairly evident that Willie likes the songs, and is putting his effort it, and it does have a comforting feel to it. But it doesn't fit the material; standards are for expressing emotion and passion and I just don't feel it here. Add to that the fake harmonicas and turning All of Me into the equivalent of a pub singalong and I just don't know anything anymore. Who am I, even? Is this real life? Fave: Stardust Least Fave: All of Me. Strong Bad Demerit Counter: 0

Love Willie Nelson, but prefer more of his upbeat honky tonk/folk. This was a lil too sleepy somber.

I enjoyed this album in the background, but could not really get into it. It was fun coming in with no knowledge and getting surprised by an album of standards. It starts off quite slow too which did not help :) Love Willie, but probably would not come back to this one.

I really don't know about this one. Willie Nelson is a legend, but this is a collection of covers of songs that I just don't particularly like. I don't get it, and I didn't really enjoy it.

Dull cover versions sung by a dull artist, I am sure this means something to the country fans, but to me it is far inferior to other offerings. Placid Willie

Interesting arrangements but not for me.

I'm getting really tired of these cover albums

5,5/10 Highlights: Blue Skies

I'm sorry but I don't get it. Willie Nelson has a great voice and I know he wrote some fine country music but what has he added to this relatively uninspired selection of predictable covers? It's interesting to hear a country legend take on classics of swing and pop but I just found it a bit pointless.

Like it in concept, but don’t love the execution. I’d rather listen to Willie singing originals.

Yawn, just not my thing

Gooi er even wat pit in tussendoor man.

Terrible

Was a little disappointed to find out these were all just covers. Didn't hear anything that I really liked here.

Fine. Cute

Some pretty cover versions.

Not for me but I love his voice

There are some classics here, but nothing I would habitually listen to.

Nothing special, great songs but done better by others.

Struggled hard through this one, is this gospel music? Kidding but for me that’s not top all time.

Très meh

Over this project I have given poor scores to country albums and albums containing a lot of covers, so poor Willie didn’t have much chance here.

too slow

Me, :09 seconds into Stardust: oh no, is this an instrumental album? Me, 0:14 seconds into Stardust: maybe it should have been

Willie needed money so he covered a bunch of old standards. Weak!

Willie doing covers, trying to be country Sinatra or something. Apparently recorded in 10 days, kinda shows because the music is very flat and boring. He probably has 100's of records, I'm sure there's another one that's better.

pretty good. 2.5

I like some of Willie’s stuff, but not this one. He didn’t write any of these songs, and none of the covers come close to the originals or other artist versions, for my taste. Willie simply doesn’t hit the notes sometimes either with his singing. I know that’s part of the journeyman country singer charm, but it’s not working for me this time.

Not a fan of Willie Nelson's music and I didn't need this cover album. These are just a bit derivative.

ok driving music but not that good

I'm not a huge fan of covers - apart from the obviously excellent ones (Tainted Love!) where the artist makes the track their own and gives it a whole new life. This didn't do that for me at all. Lift music that made me fall (asleep). An extra star for some cool guitar.

Willie plays American standards. I guess these songs have their place. Maybe a hotel lobby somewhere in the Southern states or Midwest, maybe a tired old department store, or a Nashville bar - but not a cool one, or a quiet restaurant 40 years ago where most of the customers were over 50, or an old cab driver playing them on a journey anywhere in the US, or maybe on a cruise ship leaving the US for the Caribbean - before they pass half way and switch to the calypso/reggae playlist, or popping up on the soundtrack of an old film, or a CD in a car boot sale, or in the vinyl collection of a country fan who bought it 46 years ago and hasn't played it for 45. I don't mind Willie Nelson's voice, he's a cool character, and some of the songs he wrote are great, I just discovered he wrote 'Crazy'. But if there's one place this collection of covers DOESN'T belong it is the best 1001 albums list! P.S. weirdly I think his '92 version of 'Always on My Mind' is great

it's ok. people love this album but not really sure why. It's Willie doing jazzy standards. kind of like Elvis Costello did after the Attractions. This was a risky move for Willie to do at the start of his career.

Sleepy but pretty

I didn’t love it

Singer/Songwriter….Boring…4/10

não faz meu tipo. charmoso, mas chato.

I always wondered if I thought Willie Nelson was a bad singer/sounded like an old man because I've only heard him recently when he is a very old man. However, this album from 1978 shows that's just how he has always sounded. Maybe the appeal is that he sounds like he has absolutely no business singing? I don't get it. I thought Kermit the frog was singing sometimes. Songs were alright but man cannot sing. 4.5/10 (2.25/5)

I'm going to assume this album was an easy cash grab for Willie to buy more weed? Boring, uninspired, sleepy, forgettable.

Some of the guitar solos were good, i liked georgia on my mind, besides that it was eh, not my kind of thing

6/12/24 not bad, every song is slow and kind of calming. good background noise for my walk/drive that morning. no real standouts though. 5/10

I’ve never listened to Willie Nelson. Learned this was a cover album. He made the songs melancholy. I would never play this.

Mellow

Growing up I was never a country music fan but as I've got older ive began to enjoy the country legends and Willie Nelson is certainly a legend. Known for outlaw country music he went against that with this album recording well known cover songs. Some of these work and some don't, the ones that work are beautiful though but I think I prefer his outlaw country work better.

2.5 - just not my thing.

The other Willie Nelson album I reviewed got 5 stars. Unfortunately I thought this one was kind of boring.

It’s listenable but nothing that moves me. Not really my vibe.

Not for me.

Not very interesting, sorry.

I feel this has not aged well.

I was expecting some good country twang when I saw Willie Nelson's name, but there was none. It makes sense since the songs are all pop standards, but I found the album a bit flat and bland without it. The instrumentation is still on point, but Willie's voice sounds a little out of place over it as well. It was kind of a snoozer, hopefully there is more Willie Nelson to come.

Not unpleasant but very middle of the road to the point of being boring. A low 2.

Some cool covers but a little sleepy

I like Willie, but the problem here is that it's almost all the same tempo and type of arrangement (read: boring). For a song or two, it's endearing, but for a whole album my attention is drawn elsewhere. 2/5

I know Willie Nelson is an American icon and treasure. Had a listen to this album and it was inoffensive and I knew every single track. What pleased me, and it has happened before following this list, was reading Willie’s wiki page and learning all about him. An added bonus. It’s good getting to know artists completely off my radar even though the actual music is not to my taste personally. But millions do so well done Willie and congratulations on a long and eventful life. 2/5 12/5/24

I'm not a massive fan of cover albums. I thought this record was nice to listen to, but it felt a bit sleepy and a bit boring. I like Willie Nelson as a singer/songwriter, perhaps just not a singer of other people's songs!

Blandest of the bland music - its not unlistenable its just tedious. *adding my usual ‘Death to harmonicas’ (even if those harmonicas are actually keys playing fake harmonicas!)

Really pleasant. Damning with faint praise, perhaps. But I enjoyed the 37 minutes this was playing. Willie has a lovely, soothing voice. Everything is sparse and has room to breath. It could be horribly sweet and cloying ... but it's nice. I probably won't ever listen to it again.

Enjoyed some of it more than I expected to. Some of it is just bland. 2.5 stars.

It was okay, some of the covers were interesting but not a lot of compelling tunes.

very sedate, kinda nice as a bit of backing music while busy

Not what I thought it was gonna be

Fine, it was just boring

I don't know. This album is fine. I liked the title track, I thought it had nice guitar parts. However, after that it really lost my attention. Every song started to sound the same, especially the second half. I will be honest, I started to play Counter Strike around the 6th song, so maybe if I listened more actively I would have enjoyed those last songs more. This is probably the one of the only times I will ever listen to a Willie Nelson album, so I am kind of bummed that it was all covers. Hopefully the other one on this list is better. Overall, I thought the production and guitars were good. However, I found it really hard to pay attention to this album and I am not a huge fan of the idea of a covers album. The covers I did recognize I thought the originals were better

Up and down

While driving through a busy chaotic carpark with this on the stereo, it occurred to me that this was incredibly calming. If I needed a lullaby, Willie would be the guy. It seemed to be largely covers of older songs. Listens: 1 Rating: 2

I have a bit of an issue with covers that make songs less interesting than the original. The best covers are ones like All Along The Watchtower, Hallelujah.. they take the bones and expand it into something incredible. This seems to do the opposite. The most obvious example being Unchained Melody, an epic pop song with soaring vocals and strings, it feels a bit.. stripped back like this. Relaxing enough to listen to, but really did the world need this?

Willie Nelson minus what mashes him interesting. Zzzzzzzzzzz.

Willie's slower than usual tempo was never for me, even if he is doing a bunch of cool covers

this game shouldn't have covers albums

We're back to albums that are perfectly fine without being memorable with Stardust. We had another Willie Nelson record recently and I don't remember that either, he's doubtless an illustrious and accomplished artist with a mellow voice and delivery and his productions are well balanced, but the only stuff that stays with me from this one are the songs I already knew from the original tracks or better covers. 2.

This is an album mostly (if not all?) of covers. It's nicely arranged, his voice fits some of the songs better than the others, but none of it is bad. Unchained Melody is my favourite of the bunch, it's close enough to the original to be the same song, but Willie Nelson enough that it feels like something quite different. But, not sure that an album of covers really deserves to be on this list, so 2/5 it is.

Full of nostalgic classics, I certainly enjoyed visiting the album with many of the individual songs familiar to me. Willie Nelson is not my favorite country voice. But I will say this, the farmers who are my forebears out on the plains hold him in the highest regard. So much so, that Nelson is played at their funerals where many men still wear cowboy hats and boots. Many of the songs on the album are covers, and this only increases the overall familiarity. All that said, I'm not a fan of the sound of his voice. Huge respect for the man, but I don't care for the music.

It was charming to hear Willie on these classic covers, but these are some of the slowest and most boring versions of some already slow songs I’ve heard. Willie’s voice is not really good. But it’s also kind of great, you know? The trouble is these songs don’t show off his personality and charm, key elements in his talent and mystique. I think the idea of pop standards that would be covered and performed by lots of different singers was a great element of popular music in the mid-1900s, and I kind of wish it was still a thing. Sure, lots of artists do covers today, but rarely do we get an album of a star disappearing into the music of their inspirations and predecessors.

I agree with Willie that these are great songs. These are maybe not great covers of great songs as Willie doesn't have the range for some of these (looking at you Unchained Melody).

2 - I really did not like this. I was quite looking forward to listening as I'd never listened much before. I think halfway through I had to check I hadn't put the songs on repeat. It felt really just boring.

nothing special

Didn't expect this to be so crooner-y? Not for me

Some c*** from Preston

These are great songs. But they're much better sung by many others. I don't know why you would listen to this unless you were already a Willie Nelson fan (I'm not a fan of his voice). He's written standards himself. Would he rather listen to himself or Patsy Cline sing Crazy? The first album I don't think belongs on this list.

I probably would have enjoyed this more if Willie Nelson’s singing and musical arrangements didn’t for some reason didn’t remind me of Kermit the Frog and the Muppet Show

Some good songs. I just find it hard to like old school country which is what I classify this as.

Sleep inducing

Not interesting to me but i didn't hate it

Sleepy

He has a good voice but this just isn’t my type of music

Really enjoyed the last Willie album I got, but I'm honestly not feeling a cover album.

Peaceful. This one's for Pilly Mouse. Also, Micah Nelson is my doppelganger. Ironically was moving a piano during the listening of this. -------------------- Willie Nelson's "Stardust" is a collection of classic American standards, draped in his signature laid-back country style. While undeniably peaceful and easy listening, the album lacks the spark that could elevate it beyond mere background music. Nelson's vocals are smooth and weathered, perfectly suited to the melancholic undertone of the songs. The instrumentation is similarly relaxed, with his gentle guitar picking weaving a consistent sonic tapestry throughout the album. This creates a sense of comfortable familiarity, but therein lies the album's main weakness - it becomes repetitive. The consistent tempo and lack of dynamic variation make it difficult to distinguish between the individual tracks. While peaceful, this uniformity can leave the listener wanting something more engaging, a change of pace or a bit of emotional depth that goes beyond the surface serenity. Ultimately, "Stardust" is a pleasant listen for those seeking a calming atmosphere. However, for those hoping for a more dynamic and engaging musical experience, the album's peaceful monotony may leave them feeling unfulfilled. -------------------- Favorite: Don't Get Around Much More 2/5

I know this is Willie. He's the Living God of Country. So I won't dis him at all. This is just too soft and easy feeling for me. Maybe when I'm 80 years old? Nah, I'll still be reaching for Captain Beefheart then too. 2 stars because he's Willie tho.

First album that felt like a drag to get through. Not unbearable, not interesting

I really appreciate that this record was kind of groundbreaking. Having a major country star do a crossover record of all cover songs was a novel thing at the time, and it led to more instances like Johnny Cash and someone else major i cant remember in the 90s. Obviously there is nothing groundbreaking or innovative about this record, and it's not a good example of Willie Nelson. I do like his version of Georgia on my Mind though.

never heard this, not sure how its going to go... *few songs later* realise i know all these songs from the muppet show! It's a perfectly 'fine' covers album, but wouldn't listen to it again. It's gentle safe music for coffee shops and xmas movies.

The songs are beautifully produced. Nelson has chosen some classic songs to cover. The music isn't to.my taste however and I find his voice pretty weak in terms of performance when compared to modern standards. That, coupled with the unoriginal songs covered brings the score down for me.

Cover album, definitely not country. Inoffensive and forgettable

This album is pretty but slllloooowwwww. I know that weed makes you chill but geez Bill...pick up the tempo

Willie's trying to tug at my heart strings here but I decided that it's not gonna work this time!!!

boring

Ganz nett. Schöne Songs dabei, die man sowieso kennt. Nichts besonderes. 3.2/10

I am sorry but I struggled through this one....

Love Willie, but I found this album boring to the point of being depressing.

I love Willie but this one is ZZZZZZZ

blues, jazz, soft, 1978 ->2

some decent instrumentals, but otherwise just really not my cup of tea at all

was nice, nice vocal but grew tiring as album went on

Not super neat.

I get that this was a huge departure for him musically, and kudos for taking that leap and the success of the album, but all these years later it just seems kind of hokey.

Not for me.

Not a big fan of Willie Nelson and these songs are much more competently performed by others in my opinion. I had this record at one point and ended up getting rid of it. There’s just nothing special or particularly entertaining about this album, specifically when stacking the standards up against Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or contemporaries like Bublé or Connick,Jr. Two stars.

This sounds like stuff grandma and grandpa would love. His voice has an interesting quality, its not a really powerful voice but like a friend singing at a wedding reception. It is charming in a way. Overall it was just okay. I would much rather stick to some of the classic jazz singers

So forgettable: legit don't remember this album at all. All I can think of is it being not the worst country out there but still being of the dull side of music. Decent album cover, looks a bit like an aged painting with the grain to it and the stars are quite nice. Nothing to say other than that.

Why is this a must-listen to album?? it is literally just covers.

Warbly weirdness

Mostly forgettable covers, but a great version of Blue Skies

A few nice songs. But, couldn’t really enjoy the bulk of the album.

Stardust - I love this song (definerly not because samara joy covered it) The rhythm guitar is really pretty but the way he solos kinda puts me to sleep the synth strings in the background kind of annoys me His voice is beautiful Georgia - the harmonica is so impressive and reminds me of a western movie It still puts me to sleep a lil bit tho Blue skies - i liked the beginning a lot but didn’t like how it ended All of me - the harmonica is the only part of this one i like Unchained melody - song sucks I really didn’t love this album even though it was jazz. I thought he has a really pretty voice and the harmonica was insane, but I don’t feel like he added that much to the classic songs. I liked the slower ones more. My favorite song was september in the rain.

Just was alright nothing special probably will not return for more may give Willie one more try but at this point not impressed 2/5

This was ok; pretty slow, not really what I would have thought of when I saw Willie Nelson, but I guess this was just a bunch of covers by him anyhow. Not likely to return to this. 2/5

Not really my thing

Boring!

I don't claim to know Willie Nelson's entire discography, but this has to be among his most boring. I can appreciate how this collection of pop standards cemented his unique voice and appealed to a mass audience, but boy does it sound vapid. None of these versions comes close to being a definitive version. Would much rather listen to his original material.

Very disappointing. All I knew about Willie was his love for the green so I was expecting some decent country but nope. So dull. Tracks 2 and 3 the only ones I could possibly listen to again. The rest deserve to get in the bin. 1.5*

I'm not the biggest Willie Nelson fan and considering this is apparently a cover album maybe it isn't the best album to try and turn me around on ole Willie. While he is very talented this album just didn't do much for me. I've never head any of the originals for the songs covered on this album so I have no comparison, maybe if I did this would rate higher but for now this gets a 2/5.

Was not what I expected at all. Pretty underwhelming.

Sorry Willie, not my jam. Not unpleasant, just not that interesting to me

Good songs, dislike his voice intensely.

Willie Nelson singing a bunch of standards. Good if you like that sort of thing but nothing too special.

Interesting and catchy riffs, very melodramatic

A collection of covers that are arranged well and performed in Willie's unique style. Unfortunately, with a few exceptions I have never really been into that unique style. I am not sure why this one is considered an essential listen.

I'd rather he just stuck to country. I didn't find this stuff to be very compelling.

Favorite: Blue Skies Least favorite: Unchained Melody One word: covers

Probably better to listen when high

Gör något eget i stället Willie.

It had a few good tracks but overall not too impressed

It's just totally fine. I like the downtempo atmosphere overall, I just don't really have much I'd listen to again from here

First listen Saved 3/10 Top track: Georgia On My Mind

All covers?

Become a fan of Willie and his work as I explored the rebel country the last few years. He has a unique voice that a lot don't seem to appreciate, but seems to work for his style of music. I have to say that his version of Always On My Mind is near the top oy my list of all time favorite songs. Yep, better than Elvis. Back to this album. Found it to be real mellow and kinda slow. Just not something I would expect from Willie. I really like the song Georgia On My Mind, but Ray's version is the best. This was different and probably not something I would come back to at any point. Well maybe if I needed some mellow stuff to try and fall asleep. I'm not going say this was bad, just not for me. 2.5

It's a good thing this album is called Stardust because listening to this at any time of day other than at night would be boring. Some okay stuff here. I'll probably listen to a few songs again when I'm winding down for the day. 2

Boring as fuck. I don’t care about this. All Of Me is the best and only kind of good song.

Is it me, or does Willie Nelson sound a little bit like Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy singing an albums worth of American standards?

Kinda cool, respect the outlaw just kinda doing what he loves, but this was for him not me.

Decent cover album.

My well this is so straight up it's kind of hard to believe the whole thing is not some conceptual joke. But no, Willie Nelson, the great outlaw country rocker, delivers a standard standards set. He brings absolutely nothing to these songs other than sincerity and a certain careworn-ness. The very very definition of inessential.

It's a whole load of nothing. Nothing original here.

Highlights: "Moonlight in Vermont," "Stardust," "Blue Skies," "Someone to Watch Over Me" It was a different time that you could go multiplatinum off a cover album. Or not; Nelson defied critical and commercial expectations about what people want and proved them all wrong. Good arrangements, comfortable performances. I don't know that any of these pieces were wanting for his performance, but it's interesting to hear a country guy assimilate plenty of harmonic suspense like whole tone and major-minor or augmented chords. I can't really read his outlaw persona into this, and maybe that's what fans liked so much; maybe it felt cathartic to hear him indulge in more fanciful songs. In itself, it feels banal and mawkish. You know, a sellout album.

A damn fine voice but a searingly bland batch of songs. Lacking in any depth or soul. File under nice but dull.

An album of covers. More for Willie Nelson fans. I liked his choices of songs to cover. His renditions of those not particularly exciting.

Standards in full schmaltz mode, sung by a guy who can't really sing

I can see why this sold well in it's day but now it sounds like the kind of elevator music you'd hear in a doctor's waiting room.

Musically it was all fine, but nothing really stands out. Very boring

Not bad but a bit too tame for my liking.

Sounds good but way too tame

Not sure about this one, Willie. The smooth production takes it closer to crooner territory than country, and that’s less appealing to me. It is admittedly nice and easy on the ears, but I do have to enforce the obligatory points cap for covers albums.

Not sure why a cover album of a bunch of standards is an album I have to listen to before I die

Not my type of music but its not the worst.

Willie's albums with all original stuff is heaps better than this. Mostly wonky covers. Meh.

willie is not for me.

I want to like Willie Nelson, but this album just strips all the songs of their energy and replaces it with dopey country. Sorry, Willie!

I can understand why it's in the top 1001, but not my thing

Not for me

First thing that strikes me is that Willie didn't write a single song on this album. That makes it hard for me to say it should be included in a best of list. Willie shouldn't sing blue skies. The Wikipedia page for the song gives this cover it's own section. Put that beside Ella's version and tell me it's better. I guess these are all just covers of really old songs. Put Unchained next to literally any other version and tell me it's better. Yeah. I'll take old blue eyes over braids on September Song every time. This is where I check out. I get it. Willie covers songs. My whole life is a lie. Apparently Willie Nelson didn't really write any good music. He wrote Crazy and then a whole bunch of other really problematic songs. Most of the hits by The Highwaymen weren't actually written by The Highwayman. What's going on right now?

I was rather disappointed by this album, it sounded lacklustre to me.

Ugh. Another one of those albums which sounds very competent: well executed by talented musicians. It's just so boring. The sort of thing I'd expect to hear played quietly over the sound system of a department store. I must admit, I don't really understand how a album of covers done without any invention could be an album you must hear before you die.

Willie Nelson, maar dan toegankelijker gemaakt. Niet mijn ding.

Sounds like sesame st.

I like Willie but this album was adult contemporary lullabies.

Im not a fan of country but ill give it a go.

Not really my music at all.

Old or timeless? Sometimes easy listening sometimes boring.

Klassikoita juu, ja hyvin tehtyinä. Mielellään kuunteli. Onko syvyyttä? Varmaan.

Love songs by Willie Nelson. Just not for me ever.

Willie's voice just isn't my cup of tea. I found each cover to be weaker than its peers. Overall, it's just bland. There's not one song on here that I wouldn't choose to skip if it came up.

Ugh. It's Willie, I get it, but I dont have to like it. At least it wasn't full on country. Ray Charles' verison of Georgia On My Mind is better. There are a lot of covers but the originals are better. It was o.k. I will round up to a 2.

listening to Willie Nelson’s Stardust — a collection of pop standards from the great american songbook — and one is instantly reminded of the devastating myopia of a book termed 1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die, published, of course, with an overwhelmingly westernized perspective. Nelson has a calming, buttery voice, and the production by Booker T. Nelson is smooth and airy and almost weightless, but there is nothing here that is interesting enough to consider it essential listening, unless one is already familiar with said “standards” and how Nelson is revitalizing them as it were. the record is front-loaded, which makes its second half a bit of a drag, but i can appreciate Nelson’s dedication here — the songs are performed with a lot of love (love that’ll most likely be amplified through the listening ears of someone who, again, already knows and loves those standards). it’s easy listening, music that thrives in the background of a quiet conversation, but i can’t find much else to latch onto. Stardust, according to Wikipedia, is Nelson’s 22nd album, and he has gone on to release 53 records since — i cannot, for the life of me, understand why THIS is the one i have to listen to before i die, but alas.

I'm not a big fan of country but I'm still going to give this album an honest chance. I just hope I don't absolutely hate this record. The harmonica at times is really pleasant, I like it a lot. This isn't necessarily an album I would choose to sit through, more of something I'd get through just to do it and be done. I do like certain aspects of some songs but it's just not a sound that I prefer. I could definitely see my mom's side of the family having this on repeat though.

C & W is N & O.

Not my favorite. I am not too into standards, but I thought Willie's voice sounded great.

Cheesy Willy

Pleasant but basic

Just nice folksey stuff. Not super engaging in my opinion but enjoyable enough.

I didn’t expect to see a cover album on this list. On “Stardust”, Willie Nelson covers many pre-1960 vocal standards. However, he does a good job at changing up the sound on these tracks. There’s a really soulful, country-tinged vibe.

I'm just not a huge fan of Willie's voice.

Folk. Muy rollo. Un 2.

Ugh, all sound a bit the same to me, and not even in a good storytelling way. Beautiful voice and production though.

Well, I was not expecting a cover album, so this was a bit of a surprise. I wish I could say it was a pleasant surprise, but "On the Sunny Side of the Street" was the only track that really caught my ear, apart from "Georgia on My Mind." Sadly, the latter did so because it couldn't hold a candle to Ray Charles' version (but that's not a knock on Willie specifically—no one sings that song like Ray). I wanted to like this album, as I respect Willie as a person, but if this album's any indication, it appears his music just isn't my thing. Just too countrified for my taste.

There are so many more "Willie" albums. Not sure why this one of him singing a bunch of other people's songs makes this list.

Folk. Muy rollo. Un 2.

Booooring

Didn't really do much for me, but was pleasant enough.

This is just a bad idea, plain and simple. I won't give it a 1 because it's more bearable than the albums I've given 1 to.

Maybe because this style has come back a bit with other artists like Bill Calahan (who does a much more interesting version), I found this quite boring.

a little sleepy, a little soothing

They should call this list "1001 albums any american should know". nice that dear Willie can sing but not a classic.

Moppy.. don’t wanna listen to it again

Georgia on my mind is good. Other songs are decent on their own but boring when listened to in a row.

Eh, covers.

Not big on cover albums. Nothing special about this.

Ugh, how dreadfully pleasant. Apparently these songs are all pop classics but I’m only familiar with Unchained Melody. I thought that was a pretty powerful song but he’s stripped it of any emotion, energy, vocal range or passion. The more I listen/think about it the lower my score gets. If this Outlaw County I hate to think what shit the In-laws are doing.

Mixed feelings on this album. There's a beautiful simplicity to Willie's renditions of these songs. I also found myself hearing - and more often than not - wishing I was listening to the original versions of these songs compared to the covers on this album. I appreciate Willie's efforts to connect with his older audience and introduce his younger audience to classic songs, but I felt most of these songs fell short of their originals.

This was a nice album, lovely sort of country ballads.

I don't get the love. Its lame, lazy and tired. I can imagine it being played in the elevator of some cheap hotel. Country superstar plays non country songs. Hurrah Well done. I'm tempted to give it my first one. But won't 1.75. PS J Cash does this concept with balls.

This was very "easy listening" and Nelson's voice sounds thin compared with other classic country artists.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz Prefs: Stardust, Blue Skies, All of Me Moins pref: Georgia on My Mind

Very slow, okay as background wouldn’t actively listen.

Ok but slow. All pop covers, which is a weird pick for my 1st Willie Nelson, but ok.

Like listening to my least favourite Gram Parsons songs. Would be ok in the background in a cafe... not offensive but very much backgound music

At least I now know why he is more famous for smoking weed than he is for his music.

My grandpa spinning in his grave that I think this is really really boring

Not nearly enough energy here to sustain interest for even a sub-40 minute LP. Nelson can write a great country ballad, but without any uptempo tracks in the mix to balance them out this album becomes a snoozefest real quick.

Nice and chill

Muito tranquilo

Not bad, mellow, enjoyed it more than I expected, but not a Nelson fan

Pretty mellow. No stand out tracks.

2/5 way too calming

Some of the songs are decent, but that's just because they're covers of classics. This artist doesn't really bring much to the table

Found it quite boring, basic covers of standards with no real interesting additions or reinterpretation.

Please no more Willie Nelson, I'm good thanks.

I don't like "standards". It's not that I think they're the absolute worst thing ever to happen in music (pretty much the entire top 40 of the last 5-6 years is worse alone) but I do find the sentiment, cheesiness, lack of creativity and just overall low-hanging-fruitness of them kinda sickening. It's kinda telling that, in 2021, they're generally reserved for bottom-feeders like Norah Jones and Michael Buble. So yeah. I also recognise that this comes from a different time, and maybe it wasn't such a load of kitschy shit for Willie to put this crap out in 1978. So I'm trying to keep an open mind here, although this being the second Willie Nelson album I've had this week (and the second that isn't any good) it is a bit of a struggle. Overall, at least it has the good grace to only go for half an hour. 2/5.

I like Willie, but was disappointed that this was a very straightforward album of covers.

Not to my tastes.

There is no point in Willie Nelson doing a cover album, much less of jazz/lounge standards. He adds nothing to these songs.

det ger mig liksom ingenting

Gäsp!

Slow burning

I don't know. Not a huge Willy guy.

Just suffers from being a covers album.

Kinda cool, respect the outlaw just kinda doing what he loves, but this was for him not me.

It's ok. 5/10

Never listened to Willie before, but he has SO MANY ALBUMS. I was expecting more of a country vibe not going to lie, and I was pleasantly surprised by how slow and somber it was.

4/10 not my thing

Sorry Willie… way out of taste range. Crooner, no…. Country, no! Not offensive though!

Mysigt! Bäst: "Georgia on my mind"

This album is very slow. I usually like slow songs, but most of these were a miss for me. Highlights were Stardust, the title track, the cover of Unchained Melody and Someone To Watch Over Me.

Maybe I just don’t like country music as much as I aspire to. This lost me some of the way through. Odd moments of transcendence and beauty for sure, but mostly faded into the background because I’m incapable of enjoying listening to old craggy men tell gorgeous tales in cracked voices over their melancholy guitars.

0/10 trash one of the lylis are that "every thing will be allright only iof you believee the gyspy" this is untrue and wrong worst album ever last track do be pog but otherwise an ok album nothing amazing not much shit so uhhh 2/10 but because of last track uhh i give it a 5/10

i agree with both louis, just some calm music that does the country thing pretty tastefully. nothing really stood out to me though and again it's not rly my thing, though i do appreciate it

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Blue Skies, On the Sunny Side of the Street Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: There was nothing wrong with this album. Soothing country versions of classic songs. Not for me.

Ok. Wouldn't listen to again.

pleasant, almost too pleasant

Los sencillos «Blue Skies» y «All of Me» llegaron respectivamente a los puestos uno y tres en la lista Hot Country Singles de Billboard. De los mejores albunes country

My grandparents used to listen to stuff like this. And it actually took me back to that time. So I’m actually ok with most of this album. ‘Georgia On My Mind’ is pretty darn tootin.

What soothing tones

Good, but boring

Unchained Melody and a couple others are fun, but this is mostly for ooooold people

pop standards. lounge music. but, still, willie is always cool

Did not fit the mood for yesterday so probably a bit unfair. Slow soothing however probably a bit too much so.

Favorites: Georgia on My mind Stardust: decent - 0.5 Georgia on my Mind: Wondeful rendition of a classic - 1 Blue Skies: talk singing - 0 All of Me: like the harmonica - 0.75 Unchained Melody: another good rendition of a classic - 0.75 September Song: too slow for me - 0.5 On the Sunny Side of the Street: one of the better songs on this collection - 0.75 Moonlight in Vermont: meh - 0.5 Don’t get around much Anymore: I like this song, but not when Willie Nelson is singing it - 0.5 Someone to Watch Over me: pretty good - 1 For country music, this is tolerable. However, Willie does a lot of talk-singing throughout this album. If you’re going to cover a bunch of old jazz standards put some fucking effort into them. They’re classics that deserve respect. A lot of the music here is just meh. - -1 Total: 5.25/10

Bad vocals, and boring arrangements.

Disgusting lyrics and voice, it feels like vomiting. The genre itself is a piece of shit. No good album at all in here. 1 star is too much for all these albums

Cannot find words that describe, how boring this is.

Ööh, kaveri laulaa levyllisen coveribiisejä, eikä ees paremmin ku alkuperäset, ja sit tää on joku top500 levy ever?

1: covers of great songs in a country vibe.

Urgh. No, not for me, thanks.

I couldn't make it through the first track. Skipped to Unchained Melody, it was okay - I think I only like a few songs by Willie, but I love him as a human.
