Interesting without being great

A really fun listen, but it's upbeat jazzy bongo cover songs, so it gets a bit wearing after about 5 (and there are 19 tracks, although probably only 17 on the original release?). Prefer it in the contexts where it's being sampled rather than all at once! 2/5.

The album for today is a novelty album called "Bongo Rock." A bunch of covers, most of them predictable. It's an hour twenty minutes long. Most of it, mildly entertaining at best. Then it stops me entirely in my tracks with a cool 70s slow funk arrangement of "Sing, Sing, Sing." Then immediately loses me again with a lazy instrumental "(I can't get no) Satisfaction."

2/17, 12%

Not the greatest

Too many bongos...

I don't know about this one, all those bongo's are getting on my nerves. 2/5

Is this the best bongo album I've ever heard? Yes. Does that mean I want this much bongo in my life? No.

The zenith of bongo playing is 2 stars

I like. Funky. Wish I could give it 2.5.

Way more listenable than I expected, if not a little repetitive. Also, somehow (and surprisingly) more listenable than Daft Punk's Homework. Standouts: Apache, Let There Be Drums, Bongolia, Wipeout

I can see why this is sampled and used in soundtracks so often, but I'd never just put it on to listen to.

Rated on skill, this probably scores high. Rated on a listenability, less so.

too many bangoes in one place

It's not bad, they are a instrumental band with some covers.

there were a few fun songs in here but i don't need an entire album of bongo centric music

Some fine Price is Right music. But not sure how it's a 'best ever'

All I could think of was where are the bongos? I thought since it was a bongo album that they would be highlighted more but the other music outplayed them. Was still an okay album but not something I would just listen to on a whim.

Jammy and fun. Definitely needed on such a rainy day!

Very fun covers but not much more than back ground music for me

Neat little time capsule of 70s vibe, but a bit much to listen to all at once... This kind of soul sound but with the bongos turned down to a reasonable level was done well on The Olympians' self-titled (2016). (previously listened)

It's fun, but no idea why it's here

I'd like to think that it's possible to include almost any instrument into any genera of music and find a way 5o make it interesting. However, listening to an album of bongo focused music is where I draw the line. It gets a 2 just because of the talent of the musicians involved.

This is absurd

This actually has some pretty solid songs, but most of it is just goofy. Can't say I'll ever listen to it again.

bingo bango bongo

Kinda fun, kinda boring. Too long.

I understand a lot of samples are taken from this album and Bongo Rock is a great song and Apache a good cover. The rest is forgettable

Of all the albums. This maybe the bongoiest

Meh. Too much noise

I like bongos. I don’t like bongos that much

This is instrumental covers of songs including "Satisfaction" and "Inna-gadda-da-vida". I don't understand who this is for or why it's on the list.

Ok as background music but not rushing to relisten.

Every song sounds like an intro to a traffic report on morning radio. Bongolia is a good name. Missed opportunity for In A Bongo Da Vida.

2 not bad but not something I’d go out of my way to listen to nor would this make my 1001 top albums.

I really tried....besides Apache though, I struggled.

Found myself liking the beginning of songs before the bongos started. All in all, this is a lot of bongos. Probably too much bongo. Favorite Track: Last Bongo In Belgium.

Basically it’s covers with Bongos in the background and brass covering the vocals. It’s ok. They’ve picked some decent tunes to cover, but it gets a bit dull after a while.

It's a neat novelty idea, but that's all it really is: a novelty. Most of the tracks on here are covers, and while I can see where they were used in later rap, but anything other than that, it's unessential. Favorite track: "Last Bongo in Belgium"

Good for background while working - but seriously - does not belong here, even given the extent to which it was sampled. The point of sampling is to make gold out of obscure things like this

Meh. "Apache" or not.

Definitely a bongo album

Who composed this list anyway? I mean, I don't hate this album, but I could happily live my life without listening to it.

I spent an hour and 20 minutes inside an elevator... Joking aside, I never realized this is there the sample to Beastie Boys "Looking Down the Barrel of the Gun" came from.

04/01/2022 Meh. Not bad, but not great by any means.

For bongo music this is good. But about 3 songs in I’m thinking, “Enough with the bongos already!” It’s fun to hear the samples that have been in later hip hop though.

Tedious.

Made virtually no impact on me

It's just bongos??? There's some other instruments I guess, but yeah. It's too many bongos.

Good in small doses, but this is not an album I would ever want to listen to straight through. The first track, Apache, is actually on my current Spotify playlist (might need to let that one go now…) Over an hour of this music is waaaaay too much of a not that great thing. Yet another example of the list author’s inability to get this list right.

Just kinda boring.

I want to say no. Just no. Never. It grows on you the way mold grows in a humid bathroom. It is slightly misleading in that there's a lot more than just bongos. But as we've learned, any band that has the label "Incredible", is, well, something.

Apache hits and i think i'm going to groove and enjoy this album. I raised an eyebrow at InAGaddaDaVida, but i carried forward. But wow... it turns south after that... certainly by the time of satisfaction, wipeout and pipeline. Unnecessary.

bingo bongo not for me apache little cool tho

I don't get it. Its a load of covers, but with bongos

Not very good

Terrible yet great.

lotssssss of bongo

First listen. The songs are good, just not too sure if this is a must-listen-to album. I enjoyed it though. Standouts: In-a-Gadda-Da-Vita, Apache, Let There Be Drums I give it a strong: 2/5

Is it a novelty album? Maybe. It's done well, but I just don't see myself going back and listening to this one. I get that it's included because it's so heavily sampled, but it's not really for me. A couple of songs you say, hey, I know that one, or I know that beat, etc. But it's not really an album if you ask me.

meh, too bongo for me

meh... instrumental + covers... not great

The bongos are a fun gimmick for a song or two but get tiring. I could see myself throwing a song from this into a playlist easily but I'm not sure how much I would want to listen to the entire album.

Better than expected. Starts off with a bang with Apache, this may be an interesting trip. In-a-gadda-da-vida may also actually be better than the original. However Satisfaction isn’t. Overall feeling groovy, more so than when I was listening to Simon & Garfunkel recently. Drags a bit by the end but a novel idea

sounds like background music from old cop shows from the 70s, that and old porno music

Great instrumentation, kind of souless songs. It would've been better to listen to some of the albums where this is sampled

Yesterdays album would have really suited the mood I’m in at 3am listening to this, but alas, this is todays album and I’m really not feeling it. It’s just there, happening… and I’m listening to it. I am truly disconnected and entirely unmoved. I fear I’m being really unfair but that’s just where I’m at in this moment - or perhaps I hate this album ? Time will tell. I’m glad this app has an editing feature - I will see if I change my mind on a revisit in the future. I probably won’t.

Apache is alright, but the rest of it is silly

I mean, fine. If it was on at a restaurant I wouldn’t leave but it’s just whatever. No need to be on this list though

We get it you play bongos

Did not listen lol

I can say without hesitation that I did not need to hear this. If the 70s had anything in abundance that would be some pathetically "hip" music that was anything but. This was an experience I did not need to have. Horrid.... Again, if we could downvote (or vote in negative) this would be at the "top" of THAT list. 1 star and may I never have to listen to this shite ever again.

Basta de bongos.

Malardo. 1/10

meme ass band

Nope nope nope

Oh it's the music from the gambling adverts on TV. I have many questions primarily...why? Why was this made in the first place? And why is it on this list?

It was fun for the first two tracks, then it becomes incredibly boring.

KLOP KLOP KLOP KLOPKLOP GEDUDEL. Hilfe.

Being honest. This didn’t quite deliver on its bongo promises. Not like Houmous & Chutneys infamous album ‘Bongo Promises’. Still the best bongo album ever made that doesn’t actually feature a single bongo. 1.4 3/19 Bongolia

A bunch of covers and genre-type backing tunes…but with bongos. F right off.

WHAT! IS! THIS! DOING! HERE!?

why the hell is this album on this list, horrible covers of okay songs?? sure. Would I listen again: no Deserves to be on this list: Convinced me that this list is freaking insane 0.2

repetitive.

I tried. I really did. It seemed like it might be fun. It started out well! But it just... kept... going... The tempos weren't right, and after the initial "huh, bongos, ok" it just didn't do anything to keep me interested.

Pretty cool bongo

So gimmicky. Well produced but covers are sacrilege.

Unlisteneable

117 minutes of bongo music? Get the fuck outta here.

Sorry but wont listen to over one hour of bongo music

I mean the bongos are cool but...I am a bit perplexed by Bongo Rock making the list. Covers were just covers with hardly any bongos. Some of the end tracks were alright like "Kiburi Pt. 1" where the bongos were really featured. What happened to Pt. 2? I guess for 1973 this was something wild and hip? The Thing With 2 Heads has been on my watchlist ever since I saw a top 50 worst movies ever made list and it was #3 so even more interested now. These guys are better than the not so incredible strings but was hoping for more. Major let down...1.15.

No thanks

Simply a bad idea. 1 star or F.

Not sure why I needed to hear this before I die.

Bingo bongo

What are we now, all beatniks? Didn't like it, some great cover songs were nearly unrecognizable due to the interpretations taken.

I can’t lie. It was impressive but for how impressive it was, I’ll never come back to any of these songs ever. And I don’t think this needed to be heard before death. So.

No thank you.

Never heard. Won't listen again. It's pretty much just noise.

There is only so many bongo covers I can take in a way before seriously questioning my state of mind and how I got here.

I usually like a little funk in my coffee. But this hour-plus instrumental odyssey driven by bongos just really didn’t do it for me. Despite some of these covers being of excellent songs, and despite an addition by the Grandmaster himself, I just couldn’t get excited about this. Out of all the albums I’ve heard so far from this list, this (THIS!) was the first one I had to stretch out over five days or so. My body rejected this music. It was a literal chore to sit through.

"Bongo Rock” by Incredible Bongo Band is an album that clearly comes from a place of good intentions, aiming to celebrate rhythm and percussion with a bold, almost relentless energy. The grooves are lively and the production highlights the power of the drums, but what starts as exciting quickly begins to feel repetitive and one-dimensional.After a few tracks, the constant barrage of similar rhythms and ideas becomes tiring rather than engaging, turning what could have been a fun listen into a chore. At a certain point, the album felt so monotonous and boring that it was impossible to even make it halfway through, which says a lot about how exhausting the experience became instead of enjoyable.

This is one of the biggest "why is this on the list?" Of any. Waste of time. I could be listening to anything else right now but instead I'm listening to an album that's pretty much the backing tracks of other famous songs. I would give this a zero if it was possible Waste Of Time Feels like people rating it a 5 are maybe trying to be different, and fair play, if we were all the same how different would life be. This is trash

Whaaat?

This is a horrible novelty album.

I couldn't finish it. Too miche, too repetitive.

Es cualquier cosa

A little bit of that goes a long way.

This stinks

What in the everloving fuck was this and why would anyone think it should be listened to before I die?

I couldn’t finish this album. It was easy listening muzak with added bongos. It was too much. I didn’t like it at all.

Dark side of the moon, Catch a fire, Aladdin Sane, Raw power, Band on the run, New York Dolls, Aladdin Sane, Berlin, Let´s get it on, For Your Pleasure, Call me, A wizzard/a true star, Innervisions, GP, Tubullar Bells, Houses of the holy, Quadrophenia, Selling England by the Pound, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (y Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player), Killing Me Softly, For Your Pleasure...

Sovitaan, että he keksivät hip hopin (jota he eivät keksineet).

I like bongos, but not that much… 8/100 ⭐️

Not so bad as expected

Funky!

Absolutely boring nonsense

Feels like I wasted 3 hours on this album, but turns out it was only 1h18m. Absolutely unnecessary.

Why? Why on gods green earth is this an album I MUST listen to??

Garbage. Why?

Now I love to bang my bongos as much as the next man. But even this simple act that produces such a wonderful sound can get painful after a while. If any one of these tracks cropped up on the radio it would be fun, but the novelty quickly wore off when faced with 78 minutes worth. Take the bongos away and the underlying music is pure Gorgonzola. A pure novelty album. It’s a no from me.

A bongos cover album made it to the list? What?

1 hour and 15 minutes of fucking bongos that I’m never getting back

1.5 “Rock the fuck outta those drums, Dale!”

Struggled with this one...couldn't find a way in.

A bit redundant after a while.

not my music!

sounds like the soundtrack to a quentin tarantino nostalgia piece. Need to revisit but didn’t think it was an essential album

Yaa. This isnt my jam.

Did not vibe with this album

Listened on Sunday am which was a mistake however still not a fan.

Uhhhhhhh I hate all these songs to begin with so adding schmaltzy drums does nothing for me.

p287. 1973. 1 star. Cheesy 70s album of mostly shit covers. This is what they play during the intervals between acts in working man's clubs in Hell.

Fine as background music, didn’t impress or excite me beyond that. Wouldn’t say this was deserving of this list or my time.

Well this is certainly the best bongo based album I’ve ever heard

It's kind of fun, but ultimately it's the kind of music you put on to keep the kids quiet in the car. Must also admit it took me three goes to get through this. It's long.. So a vanity project as well as a novelty album.

There are 50 albums that i would before this one. I'm a drummer and found this hard to sit through.

‘audio jungle dot com’

Bongolia is the best song I heard. The album was too long and too many Bongos. Felt like I heard different snippets that were samples.

Ok this is a 1 and I’ll tell you why. First of all, most of these are covers, which means the album itself is not very original or influential in that regard. Second, this was mainly background music. It barely made me tap my foot at its best moments. Third, and most importantly, the bongos were completely unnecessary and they actually made the songs worse at some points. Therefore, this has to be a 1 because the premise of the album was to upgrade the songs with bongos, while it actually downgraded them. It’s not your average 1 star album, but a 2 felt way too generous.

Una porquería! Encima no se terminaba más!

I mean the tunes are great - but they are way better in their original form sans bongo. Why oh why?

Nope. I have no patience for this

A steaming pile of poo💩

It's bongos - a lot of bongos

I thought I would hate this. Apache is a good song, I've heard it somewhere before. I actually do hate this. I can't make it more than halfway through. I want to poke out my eardrums.

Its me Aubrey Drake Graham, Fuck bongos.

I do not like to bongos. No I very much do not.

Why would I even listen to this?

Pros: - nice music to do some chores to or have on. it gives you a groove to moove to. - "Apache" is the original version of Sugarhill Gang's song "Apache" and I had no idea. Amazing! Cons: Misc: I really wasn't expecting an album like this on here. It's very surprising! Overall, while I'm sure influential, I don't know if this album to me is a "must" listen to or a top album of all time, so I am going to rank it low.

Effectivement, c’est partout, surtout dans Looking down the barrel of a gun pour ma part.

“Mainly covers of popular songs of the day characterized by the prominence of bongo drums, conga drums, rock drums and brass.” A thing I actually never needed to hear.

Something of a one trick pony. The album gets off to an outstanding start with Apache - probably the most sampled beats over the past 40 years. The bongoes then get a little annoying. It goes bongo bonkers in the Satisfaction cover. Austin Powers without the irony.

Alltof mikið bongó! Drepleiðinlegt til lengdar.

The Velvet Underground: Sí. American Pie: Sí. Bongo Rock: No.

Surprisingly not the worst we’ve had
