Reviews (page 6 of 10)
3 all time tunes and a bunch of stuff I never heard before for a reason.
It was fun hearing The Eagles becoming themselves on this album. I had a little trouble deciding if the overall vibe was a tiny bit lacklustre or whether it was just mellow in that early 70s way. 3.5 would be my preferred rating.
I was honestly expecting better. The first two songs are masterclasses in song making. Take it Easy and Witchy Woman have such chill vibes, great instrumentation, and catchy choruses. But the rest of the album is pretty forgettable.
I already knew and loved a couple songs off this album but I found that most of it faded into the background while I was listening. I would give it another shot.
the eagles aren't "bad" but they are certainly overrated to a hilarious extent.
Good debut album, I would give 3.5
“take it easy” is an iconic eagles song, “witchy woman” was great and “train leaves here this morning” was beautiful. the rest is just okay and the absolute worst song on the album is “most of us are sad” - 😅 even the vocals sound out of tune or something. i don’t know, i didn’t enjoy that song at all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
i dropped this project because of a medical emergency that put me in horrific physical and mental pain and i was just Not here for having to listen to eagles in those conditions. months later i can tell ill only get my music listening momentum back if i bite the bullet and make this project part of my routine again. thankfully its far from the worst music that could be thrown at me, the eagles are nothing if not Totally Undemanding and on the whole i think theres some fine songwriting on here. it does have me reflecting on this whole slick country rock thing that the band popularized, seemingly wrung to create as little tension or drama as possible. the cultural context for carefree lightweight country music seems fairly obvious, its a reprieve from physical labor, among other things. maybe the heart of the eagles being whitebread california posers is that they sound like theyve never worked a day in their lives! the studio perfectionism and willful disconnect from the outside world is probably the appeal, but it sure gives this uncanny feeling of being un-lived in. but they sold a bajillion records so what do i know ig.
Years ago a guy sold me a box of albums which held a lot of good stuff, including the Eagles albums from Eagles to Hotel California. I used to listen to this a lot, not so much these days - Desperado is usually my go to when I choose to go. The debut is still a decent record. The four members of the band are all good singers, their voices complementing each other perfectly, the harmonies first class. Bernie Leadon’s acoustic playing and, especially, his banjo adds a lot to the Southern California country sound. The album lacks the quality of some of its obvious influences - The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers - and some of the songs are a little tired and dated. “Chug All Night” and “Most of Us Are Sad” don't really stand up but “Take It Easy”, ”Witchy Woman” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” do. Of the rest, “Earlybird” and “Nightingale” are good but, a little surprising, as I like his voice a lot, Randy Meisner’s songs are among the weakest. Glyn John’s production is clear and uncluttered. The album is a pleasant listen but there were better to come.
Classics
3,3
Desigual debut. Algunas canciones flojean.
Lekker begin zo!
Pretty mellow 👍
Better than I expected, as someone who generally doesn't like classic rock or country.
better than expected but still goofy
475 8.26.25
Some very strong tracks and a lot of filler
A classic
Not sure what there is to say that hasn't been said.
Take it Easy is a great tune but the rest was fairly bland filler
Take it Easy is an all-timer. I was prepared to give this album a bonus point for that song alone. But the rest of the album feels meandering and all over the place. Guess I should be grateful I broke up with my ex-boyfriend before he got the chance to drag me to an Eagles concert.
They thrive when they are doing margaritaville style music.
It was nice I guess. Too inoffensive to critique it, too boring to praise it. I don't really care about this album and I hate the Eagles man.
Relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JlmvtAHhnc Just wasn't doing it for me, much like the other harmony-heavy country rock bands I've heard. They're decent, but really the only amazing song is the one everyone and their grandma has been hearing for the past 53 years. A lot of it is that The Eagles sound like every other band to come out of Laurel Canyon in the early 70s. Not bad, just pretty forgettable.
Wow, other than the songs I knew and love--"Take It Easy," "Witchy Wiman," and "Peaceful, Easy Feeling," this album was a real slog. The songs are so country rock generic and easily blended into musical wallpaper. This is probably the ultimate greatest hits band and the deeper cuts just don't amount to anything. Still, those 3 songs are classics and this was a band who knew what they were and did it very well. The harmonies alone warrant 3 stars.
Maybe its cool to hate on Eagles ever since The Big Lebowski, as so many of the reviews here show, but frankly I think thats pretty overblown and dismissive. This is a solid dad rock album. A lot of stuff on here is cheesy for sure, the ballads (with the exception of Peaceful Easy Feeling) bore the hell out of me, but Take It Easy is one of the best country rock songs ever, makes me wanna just hit the open road. I like Witchy Woman too, and ends strong with the rockin Tryin'. A mixed bag for me personally, they're really a greatest hits band, but this is definitely worthy of this list for that nice 70s laurel canyon-style sound
I'm going to say that this has 3 hit singles on it. The rest is, as the kids say, mid. 3 stars
I’ve got to slightly disagree with the dude. Take it easy is a bop and i won’t be convinced otherwise. The rest i can probably do without listening to again though.
easy listening, as expected from an Eagles album, not pushing boundaries and very easy on the ear
Supposed classic, but kinda all over the place classic rock. Ok?
Eagles is just fine. Nothing special.
They are OK, never my style of music, but compared to the crap put out these days they were pretty good
Meh. 3 strong tracks. Rest is filler. Easy pop.
Dad rock if that term is still applicable. This is what you listen to when smoking marlboros and drinking light beer in a dive bar. The most vanilla flavored rock out there. No one can really hate it, yet nothing to truly love. The majority of the album is sleep inducing. If it wasn't for Take It Easy and the few guitar solos sprinkled throughout I'd rate it lower,
IMO Eagles have one great album. It is “Hotel California.” The rest of their non-greatest hits records have a few good to great songs, but the rest are filler. This album has one banger in “Take It Easy.” The other two singles are two of my least favorite ones of theirs. The album has no other memorable songs. I’ll still give it 3 stars as it’s not actually bad, but it’s not one I’d listen to again.
Can't listen to the Eagles without thinking about that Country Bears movie lol.
I think that I’ve always disliked Hotel California enough to discount the Eagles entirely but this was better than I was expecting, I might even be willing to so that I liked it.
Best Song: Peaceful Easy Feeling I always said, "I really don't like the Eagles." But, that was before I was forced to listen to them. Now that I have, I can honestly say, "I really don't like the Eagles." When the album was done streaming, "Keeping on Trying" by Poco started and I thought, "oh this is at least a good song." Nope, wasn't them. This album was yawn inducing. 3/5.
I bet that if I make a reference to the Big Lebowski it’d be really funny and epic. Eagles have always been a middling band to me, they are in a music genre I really enjoy, but I find them to be a bit boring and would much rather listen to other stuff. This album had some of the better Eagles hits on it, and the deepcuts were pleasant as well. Still, doubt I’ll ever return to it in the near future, would rather be listening the the Byrds or CSNY.
The Eagles are pretty iconic, so I knew what to expect. But because they are so iconic some of the hits are a little overdone. I feel like they fall into a category for me of yeah I like that song, but I will flip channels to see if there is something I like more but come back in case, kind of like your go to cheap beer or comfy sweater...you know what you are getting and you like it but something else could be better. I was a little surprised i enjoyed some of the lesser known songs a bit more than the hits. Nightingale was a good up beat song and Train Leaves Here This Morning was a good story. Solid songs but nothing absolutely amazing.
Nothing like starting a day on the open road out west with Take It Easy! The three hits on here are pretty great, but the rest was just ok to me.
A decent debut, all in all. Three all-time AOR hits and a pretty interesting collection of filler, some better than others. Earlybird is the best of the bunch, followed by Take the Devil. Some clunkers like Most of Us Are Sad and Chug All Night. Certainly easy to see how this laid the tracks for the entire Americana/Alt-country genre.
This album has some of the Eagles trademark tunes. They’re bangers. If any of any of those classics come on the radio, I’m singing along and tapping my toes. But listening to them back to back diminishes them. They’re a little too perfectly planned; they wear down over time. The rest of the songs on the album are mid — there’s a reason those filler songs aren’t in heavy rotation. Overall, despite the classic hits, this album isn’t that special as an album. It’s a 3
I read once that "the Eagles wanted to be cowboys, but not the kind who ride horses" and that, I think, is the truest sentence anyone ever wrote about the Eagles. There's some great songs here, but the record does suffer from a lack of ambition. As a Scottish person I was unable to listen to "Chug All Night", because of the masturbatory implications.
Just ok
I have never been a fan of the Eagles. I knew Take It Easy and Witchy Woman going in. It was better than a lot of the crap I’ve had to listen to.
I mean, its a classic for sure, but for me, its just ok.
I already know what at least half of the reviews are going to say and let's just say I share the sentiment of that quote. That said, I did actually like the song "Earlybird."
A busker's joy
It was fine. Just boring.
This is a grudging 3. I thought it would be a 2 but it turns out it was fine I guess
Take it eaaaasy.
Quintessential classic rock, but it's awfully boring for large stretches. I actually didn't know the Eagles had as much countdy influence in them as they do, with my easy favorite here being Earlybird. It's weird, unique, and the banjo really shines along with the sour sounding guitar. Made me actually notice the banjo at the end of Take It Easy.
Lots of hits, obviously, but it's kind of just solid to me.
When I saw the Eagles’ debut as today’s album I rolled my eyes expecting to hate this, but this was actually alright. Nothing groundbreaking, but a nice enough mix of country rock. Feels like having this on as the sun was going down on a BBQ where you’ve had a couple of light beers would be perfect. Gains an extra star for Earlybird which is a real weirdo of a track.
A couple of classics
This is so much better than the Hotel California album
It was cool it was kind of country I loved witchy woman
Take It Easy - 4/5 Witchy Woman - 5/5 Chug All Night - 3/5 Most of Us Are Sad - 3/5 Nightingale - 4/5 Train Leaves Here This Morning - 3/5 Take The Devil - 4/5 Earlybird - 4/5 Peaceful Easy Feeling - 3/5 Tryin' - 3/5 Average score: 3.6/5 (rounding down)
Enjoyed this album, thought the Eagles can sound pretty samey after a while. Won't beat Hotel California, but it was alright. 3/5
Huh? What’s that? The Beagles? The Beatles?? Again? No, the Kegels? Feminist punk? The Smeagols? More lord of the rings music? That might be cool. No? Ohhhh the Eagles. NOOOOO. Can we invent and listen to a band called the Kegels instead? That was my impression of the hearing capabilities of the average listener of this band. They remember the JFK assassination, but not their email password. Check me into the Hotel California. I pray there are hourly rates. Take It Easy - Heard a million times. Could’ve sang it to you before this review. Not once have I said “let’s play some Take It Easy.” I hate that about pop music. Listen, if I hadn’t heard it a million times against my will, I’d be pleasantly surprised. Capable vocals, nice little melody. This is nowhere near the bottom of the chasm of overplayed songs that live in my head. Witchy Woman - Santana called, he said, “hey can I feature on a song soon, Rob Thomas isn’t paying out like he used to.” This song is two things, cheesy, and actually pretty good. Dammit. Chug All Night - opening riff is good but oh man this chorus. We could chug all night, we could hug all night. You know what? I criticize how crudely people talk about sex these days, huggin’ and chuggin’ sounds downright adorable. This song sucks, but kudos to the boys here for being folksy as all get out. Well done fellas. Most of Us are Sad - The Eagles: Original Millennial Humour pioneers. Errrrrm yeah my depression is the original pioneer of me errrr getting nothing done. Does Gen Z care about that more? Listen. Comparing generations is just as much of a comedy trope as anything these days. If you see it on short form content, it’s probably dead. Speaking of dead, this song is kind of lifeless. I like the guitar that is drenched in reverb. This song feels like a throwback, even for the time. Nightingale - A fun classic rock song. Cool melody with a punch that is working for me. Train Leaves Here This Morning - A less fun classic rock song. This track was quite repetitive and made me cognizant of the seconds passing. Take the Devil - Oh god are we letting the drummer sing? I kind of liked the shabby singing. More gritty. Earlybird - I wasn’t ready. Let me get my Merlin app brewed up. Yup. That’s the Earlybird. OR possibly the red breasted nuthatch. Decent track once again. I’m still waiting to hate this and at this point? I don’t think I will. Peaceful Easy Feeling - The song title pretty much describes the song. Judge this book by its cover. Kind of dull, but not bad at all. A lovely little rock based piece of music. Tryin’ - Well, after the Chuggin’ and the huggin’ where else can a boy who uses apostrophes to end words go? Maybe this was a self-deprecating statement. Well guys. This album didn’t turn out, but we should keep on tryin’. Chin up lads. This wasn’t bad at all. Colour me shocked. I don’t know what colour that would be but uhh. Actually. Scrap the whole thing. Painting yourself colours is just asking for trouble. Between the potential cultural snafus and the paint loaded with lead, I’m going to steer clear. Where was I? The Smeagols delivered what is an album that has completely changed my life. Their interpretation of acid jazz through field recordings whilst initiating the journey to Mordor taught me that it’s ok to laugh again. It’s ok to cry, and hey, it’s ok to cry laughing. Purge yourself of worldly possessions and get into the world of interpreting warbler calls as twelve minute saxophone solos. The Eagles were pretty ok too. 3-3.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Take it Easy, Nightingale, Take the Devil
More diverse than I would have thought!
This might be the kind of music I would have enjoyed at the start of this project, but completely not interested at this point. Just fine, 3 stars - Boy oh boy... classic rock - Kinda just background noise. Not really connecting with it
1. Take It Easy - 6.5/10 2. Witchy Woman - 8/10 3. Chug All Night - 7/10 4. Most Of Us Are Sad - 7.5/10 5. Nightingale - 7/10 6. Train Leaves Here This Morning - 8.5/10 7. Take the Devil - 7.5/10 8. Earlybird - 6.5/10 9. Peaceful Easy Feeling - 7/10 10. Tryin' - 7/10 7.5/10
I think sometimes I give 3 stars to things that like... they're not really for me and don't do much for me, but I can see how they're pretty good and would be enjoyed by other people, if that makes sense? This is one of those.
Idk its probably a bit better than I thought, definitely better than that Byrds country rock album, but the problems are sort of still the same, although this dude's (or the multiple singers idk) voice is less annoying. The banjos are still pretty bad in my opinion, quite a few of these are quite good, there are some more folk/quieter songs, and some hard-rock inspired ones, which I like much more than standard boring country. Quite a lot just feels totally nothing though, which is definitely what I expected. Favourite songs: witchy woman, most of us are sad, take the devil. Overall around 6/10
Quite enjoyed this despite myself
Solid
Easy to listen to. Each track smoothly transitions into the next. Very good vibes.
The formula of pop appeal in a country rock package is here on the band’s debut. It was the (at first reluctant) producer Glyn Johns who spotted that the thing that cemented the band’s sound and gave them cohesion, despite the tug-o-war between country and rock within the band was the vocal harmonies, so he encouraged the band to forward the blend of voices. The whole thing is very simple and that’s part of the secret to their success. Though later associated with darker themes, much of the Eagles’ appeal is very evident here; their essential optimism, the feel good feel, something much needed as the 60s dream ended and the uncertain future of the 70s loomed. The Eagles said it’ll be alright and anxious America gratefully tuned in. Fun fact: oddly for such a quintessentially American record it was recorded in London at Olympic studios.
Classici Eagle: Take it Easy bellina Witchy Woman non conoscevo ma Bella! Voto vero : 3,5
As a 36 minutes album it’s a pleasant enough easy listen, washes over you, good sound etc etc. And I don’t always subscribe to view of easy listening is a terrible thing. That they are very successful and the poster boys for greatest hits album is what it is, that some in the band appear to be not the nicest of individuals again is what it is. that they appear to have taken what other (much better in my own view) acts we’re doing and, what questionably was a very cynical motivated move ( if Mr Fry’s story if actually fact) set out to blend it into mass appeal media friendly fare to be 1st and foremost stars. In itself not an easy skill as corporations constant try and fail to do so. But it’s that slick, smooth, somewhat soulless sound that makes me thing “ yes and …” always expecting better, hoping for more. There is more emotion in the first 2 vocal lines of Gene Clarke original of train leaves here, than the homogenised version here that renders an interesting catchy tune into a bland 3 minutes. And that this slickness then became the template for much of corporate softer rock, with the band themselves appearing to kick out the more country authentic members. So it is what it is don’t hate this record but could never love it either, ( reading back through it made me say “is what it is” on multiple times, and in the 100 plus other reviews I have never said that once - guess that sums up what this record and the Eagles make me feel, so apathetic and middling) 3Star.
Michelob Ultra rock. It goes down easy without much flavor. Perfect when it's what you want but not always satisfying. The hits are hits though, can't deny Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take It Easy, and Witchy Woman.
The singles are great. The rest of the album? Not so much.
“Take it Easy” and “Earlybird” were the standout tracks. Sunny California 70s hangout music. Relaxing but also cynical and self-centred.
First couple songs were the only ones I’d listen to again. I liked the guitar in a lot of the album but it wasn’t enough to carry it. 6/10
"Witchy Woman" is a jam. "Nightingale" has some fun riffs. This album was good, but it didn't make me feel much. I could see that they were shredding, and that the songs were good, but I wasn't getting much out of it. Definitely not a bad album, but something prevented me from loving it. 6/10
Ok
Enjoyable at times
Eagles: Great vocal harmonies and good sounding album. They are good band but I could never listen to them. I think I really don’t like the parts that feel like cliche classic rock and the it’s hard to look past that. The more interesting stuff are the more country rock tunes. Best: Take it easy Peaceful easy feeling Witchy woman Early bird Least: Take the devil Chug all night Tryin
I thought i was going to like this a little more than i did. Eagles are so aggressively bland its kind of hard to listen to at times. Not even a shred of real emotion or edge. Take it easy is an alright tune but otherwise very unmemorable. 2? 3?
So much of this list is polarizing to me that when it comes to this album, I feel neither positive or negative so maybe that’s a 3? 2? Idk.
7/10
Ehhhhhhh, first impressions are a little underwhelming. Standard radio rock but I'm just not really feeling it.
Love Take it Easy, Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling but didn't enjoy the rest of the album as much.
Not a fan but definitely a solid album
Easy listening for nostalgia.
Two thumbs up. Not my favorite of theirs, but still really good.
The highs are high! Otherwise, it is relatively listenable.
The hits standout. Good start for a legendary band.
How have I never noticed that banjo on Take it Easy? That's wild man. There's a reason everyone owns The Best of the Eagles and sadly it is not because they have amazing albums. Peaceful Easy Feeling is an amazing song, one of my recent favourites, and makes this album for me. Having said that, the last song Tryin' was a surprise to me, and a great one. What an awesome closer song and yet what a weird choice to include one solid rock song on this as the end. It's not cohesive to the album at all but Highlight: Tryin'
De första två låtarna är världsklass. Sen blir det lite sämre.
Straightforward, easy listen. Something I’d see played while road tripping.
Never really listened to the Eagles before. This was frustratingly inconsistent. Equally as many duds as great tunes, and not much inbetween.
Some great songs in here and some that I couldn’t care less about
I can see why boomers love this record. Very much in the spirit of this time. Not my vibe.
Enjoyable and makes me want to go on a roadtrip
Das Debut der Eagles. "Take it easy" ist das Highlight. Der Rest ist hörbar. 3/5
I just realized I've never listened to this album all the way through. Not a terribly big fan of the last track, but the rest of it is pretty good!
Started off pretty good but eventually it reminded me why I’m not much of an Eagles fan.
I really like this album, Take it easy, is of course a great track. Good band good album
They really are good musicians and the album has a lot of good work, good melodies. 3.5/5
God bless America
so this was their debut album? got some very solid tracks, great harmonies, & their sound of southern rock/country/blues is already distinctive.
Not their finest. But a good representation of the early 70’s LA county rock styles.
Not really my bag
I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man
Great listening album. Catchy songs, just the fuckin Eagles maaan
Again, wish there was a 3.5
Some amazing songs but also some that I just didn’t care for much. I much prefer other albums.
ehh. no chef this one was way too chill for me. I yawned and fell asleep
Eagles' music is so standard and inoffensive, that I feel like I should hate it for being boring. But there's still something about it, almost like their music is SO run of the mill that it did a full 180 and became interesting again. Truly a weird one.
I know this album well.
fine
Fine album.
I think this album is alright because I like the music and the lyrics, I just don't think this is for me. The background music is nice and reminds me of a mix between country and rock. I wouldn't listen to this unless someone played it around me. I would recommend this to people who like quieter music.
Do you want to listen to some music that has a lot of guitar? Well in Take It Easy you can! I rate it a ⭐⭐⭐. I kind of recommend this song. Do you want to listen to some music that has a lot of singing? Well in witchy woman you can! I rate it a ⭐⭐⭐. I kind of recommend this song. Do you want to listen to some music that has a lot of singing? Well in Peaceful easy feeling you can! I rate it a ⭐⭐⭐. I kind of recommend this song.
the first song is good. so is the second. and the third. I recommend kinda
I really like the cover. I think that cacti and sunset look nice together. I thought "Take It Easy" was pretty good. I liked that it was kind of slow but not super slow. "Witchy Women" was also pretty good. To me I can hear the country aspect of these songs and I normally don't like country but I really like this album. "Peaceful Easy Feeling" was good too. Overall I really liked this album and I would give it 5 stars. I would reccomend this album to anyone who likes music with a country twist to it.
Came out pretty strong with this debut
OK
I don't mind the Eagles for the most part. I know the Dude is a CCR fan. Take it Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful Easy Feeling are the well known ones. Turn on any "classic" rock radio station for more than 20 minutes and you would probably hear one of them today. Other than those 3, the rest of the album is OK with some toe-tappers and nice harmonies. Overall, this album lands solidly and squarely in boomer/dad rock territory. It would be a strong candidate for being the picture next to their definitions.
Some obvious standouts, but obviously a freshman effort in other places.
7/10. Fun rock/country/blues type stuff, easy to listen and I enjoyed it. slight whiff of guitar solos which I knew they had in them because of hotel California. Not much else to say but I liked it.
The first two tracks are great, then from there it's mostly okay. Peaceful Easy Feeling isn't bad either. It's largely forgettable though. The Eagles best albums were with Joe Walsh, though they had some good songs and their solo albums were pretty good.
É um rockzinho bom viu.. Gostei de Chug All Night, Nightingale e Take the Devil
Nuria: mola Jaime: 3
Quite average country rock, not a huge fan in general although I do like a couple of songs.
This album is chock full of hits. For a debut album, this album is stellar. The problem is I can’t review this album unbiasedly, because this is one of those albums where it contains songs that were played over and over throughout my life. So despite how catchy and memorable the songs on this album are, I am just sick to death of them. I can appreciate how solid this album is and I found a few songs on it that I didn’t know and I liked. However this album is really hurt by the radio effect, so many of these songs are just so over exposed that it makes the album tiresome.
I basically only know 'Hotel California' by the Eagles. And that one is not on this album. What is here though is fine, but feels very middle of the road country rock. And maybe that's because this is some of what defined the genre, but I still didn't find a ton that I was excited about here Standouts Witchy Woman Nightingale Tryin' 3/5
Starts off brilliant but becomes too dimilar
A pretty good album, I liked Take It Easy, Train Leaves Here This Morning and Take The Devil.
Take it Easy is a classic, but this one is all over the map after that. The low point for me was 'Most of Us Are Sad', which feels like a SNL parody song.
The Fucken' Eagles, Man! Genuinely good rock n roll that I dig, unfortunately how ubiquitous and overplayed some of these songs are dilutes their true value and the listening experience of this album.
Fantastic background music when you're hanging out with a bunch of people over 40. As active listening goes, meh. I'm unimpressed.
A bit flat?
Nette Platte für die Berieselung
Better than I thought it would be but also that is not saying a ton
Glyn Johns also thought these guys were pussies
Enjoyable debut from the Eagles. Sees the Country rock group in its infancy, it’s an easy (ironic, given two of the best songs on the album have "easy" in the title), appealing listen on the whole. The best songs on this album are the hits, keeping things safest cuts: "take it easy," "Peaceful easy feeling" But I found myself enjoying songs like "Take the Devil" and "Most of Us are Sad" which were a bit different sonically than what I typically associate with the band.
I do NOT hate the Eagles. Par for a debut album. But they did get better.
Love the cover and the music is surprisingly alright. Especially enjoyed the sexually frustrated opening track. An incredibly common theme in classic rock that is conspicuously absent in modern music. Otherwise a bit too much of inane lyrics and bland blues rock too be anywhere near higher marks.
"Man, I had rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!" -The Dude (The Big Lebowski, 1998)
Except for Take it Easy, this is a pretty middle-of-the-road album
i do have to begrudgingly give it up for take it easy, and the rest is more pleasant and country than the later eagles I'm more familiar with
Pretty solid even though it's not really my forte.
Not knowing the Eagles much, I'm surprised by the country rock here. The 2 first singles are pretty solid but the rest just isn't very interesting to me.
Take it Easy was good... Witchy Woman, Chug All Night... this all strikes me as cliched. Some of the music is a bit too bluesy for my taste, but it's catchy, I can see why it was a hit.
Starts off solid with a couple pretty big hits then slowly dies down until its almost a country album. Or was it a country album all along?… 5/10
No doubt there is some sleepy filler here. What makes this a strong 3 for me is the three stone cold classics that cemented themselves into their live setlist and never budged. For those to remain staples while climbing as a successful band with a deepening and growing catalogue is quite an accomplishment from a debut album. 3.5/5
There’s no doubt that these guys wrote some pretty timeless hits, three of which appear here. And while this is a pretty strong debut for a band not together very long, the other seven tracks although average were pretty forgettable. Maybe if I dropped some peyote like they did during these sessions it might change my mind. Their 3 and 4-part harmonies should be recognized mostly here, along with their influence on the industry in general with helping to solidify that Laurel Canyon movement.
Eagles are so hit or miss for me. Some good songs but some other absolute snoozers. I prob have as much hate as other middle aged long hair bearded bros but still not my fav. 2.75
Joo kyllä kiitos rekallajyrräämismusiikkia! Pidin erityisesti a-puolesta, sitten aloin saada Jenkkilästä tarpeeksi juuri sopivasti just ennen kuin levy loppui. Fiilistelin.
There are certain bands where you know exactly what you're going to get, and The Eagles are one of those bands. And it was all very pleasant and nice. Easy on the ears a nothing to get upset about. They are one of those bands that I will probably buy something by them one day. Because I feel that everyone's music collection should have something by them in it. Yes I liked it, would I have about it, no. But they are a solid, high 3.
Take It Easy as song one on their debut was sure to get them notice. Though most of the album is not hits of the same caliber this is a great start for an important band
Mediocre album with some decent singles. Did the Eagles ever make a good album??? Liked Songs Added: Take It Easy
I had a rough night and I hate the fucking eagles man
Ok. Much of a muchness.
I'm admittedly not well-versed in the Eagles outside of Hotel California, but I found this smooth and enjoyable.
The three good tracks that resulted in singles are easily 5 star in quality, but the rest of the album drags this back down to 3 stars I'm afraid.
I don’t know if I like or dislike the eagles. The one thing I do know is that they bore me. Witchy Woman is a terrible song. I hate that. I need to hear more of them, i do want to see them live. I think the dude from big Lebowski influenced me into not liking them.
Fav: Most Of Us Are Sad Least Fav: Nightingale I had a normal night and I’m indifferent about the fuckin Eagles man
I think I'm supposed to quote El Duderino and call it a day, but I actually gave this one a chance. This felt like they wanted to make a safe 70s rock album, realized it was boring and looked for a new slant. There's these little country feels coming through, but it's all so polished it doesn't feel authentic to that style. I love the harmonies, but not really enough The hits are fine, just massively overplayed, but that's not really The Eagles fault. It's probably a good thing if you were looking at it from the bands perspective. For the amount of people that say they Hate the fuckin' Eagles, this should be bad. I'm indifferent to the Eagles... maybe that's worse?
This album was fine, the hits are hits. I hadn’t heard Earlybird before and I did like that. It was hard to objectively listen to it though. On Christmas Day during the Beyoncé half time performance my maga uncle was complaining the whole time, saying the marching band was fake (what does that even mean?) and why didn’t they get the Eagles to play instead and I have been thinking about that ever since. So then I looked it up this morning and it seems like all the current members are pretty progressive and Joe Walsh doesn’t seem to like Trump at all. And I bet my maga uncle doesn’t know that. Kinda want to post about it on Facebook so he will see it. I also read that Walsh ran for president in 1980 on a platform of “free gas for everybody” and was only 33 at the time not even old enough to be elected.
Ehh, it’s fine. Not a big Eagles guy, and I don’t get what Elaine sees in Witchy Woman. Take It Easy is a banger, tho. 3.5 ⭐️
3.5
Was a few weeks back I listened to this when I was at golf but decent enough, very of it's time is the best I can say. Low 3.
A handful of good songs but most of the songs were *almost* good. Seems like they were still trying to find their footing. Pleasant enough but doesn't really belong on this list. 3.5 stars
Relentlessly mediocre
eagles init worth a 3 star
You know, if you take out all the cultural baggage of this band, it's a decent album
Occasionally great, mostly average
A lovely debut album from a general powerhouse that has been divided over the years after strong personalities and movie quotes.
I enjoyed it.
Didn't listen but it's The Eagles so like, probably pretty good
I dig Eagles. I don't go out of my way to listen to them but when they come on I enjoy them thoroughly. Never sat down to listen to one album, I do know of their music.
2.5/5
2.5⭐️/5 [11.24.2024] 01.06.2026
Similar but not as good CSN&Y
Smooth. Mellow country rock.
Easy listening? Yeah.
Your archetypical country rock. Well made, not my thing. Too well-behaved.
Correcto
Congratulations. You are the most boring rock band of all time.
It's OK. Some hits - Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling - but some deep cuts that were meh. Solid 2.5 - I will give it a 3. Witchy Woman > Desperado
BIRD UP!
Boring. Nicely done. Not for me tho'.
This surprised me with its listenability. I thought it would be a slog considering my general dislike of the Eagles outside of a few songs. Shows me what I know. Guess it makes sense why they are are huge as they have been for the last 50 years.
The radio songs are great. The other songs are just meh. If I was going to add an Eagles album to my collection, I’d probably go with a best of.
This album has a laid-back, open-road vibe that feels a little like early Neil Young. The sound is simple, steady, and leans on warm guitar and smooth harmonies. Nothing too flashy or overdone, just a calm, easy listen. It’s music for a long drive or a lazy afternoon.
Solid
Felt very middle of the road, mostly enjoyed it as background music but nothing stood out and I didn’t find it memorable.
Love the harmonies and the guitar tone but I think I’m more of a ‘The Best of The Eagles’ kinda guy
I was expecting to like this more but it really wasn’t for me. I liked some of the songs in a sort of ‘easy listening’ kind of way. My body had a physical response to ‘chug all night’ which was just bad. I think having just listened to fleetwood, the harmonies in these songs sounded cheesy rather than beautiful/heart wrenching. Black magic woman bumped it to a three.
In the initial listen I not enjoy this album. This probably wasn’t helped following on from fleetwoodmac. But I lightened up and the album is grand easy listening country rock. “Train leaves here this morning” is pretty catchy stuff.
Such a strong start and a very strong finish. What happened in the middle? The only song I liked that I didn't know was Early Bird. Chug All Night? Really?
It's kind of hard for the Eagles to top "Hotel California", and while this is a solid debut album, it's definitely not as consistently good or as interesting as their much later album (which I had the (mis)fortune of already hearing in this collection); I guess Joe Walsh helped them create a more distinctive sound? Either way, their radio hits on this album are all nice to revisit, although I'd kind of forgotten how subdued everything was from their early years (even "Witchy woman" is pretty mellow); it kind of reminds me of how different earlier Fleetwood Mac was than with "Rumours". And the new-to-me songs are fine but nothing spectacular; "Chug all night" is a particularly odd song, although a bit heavier than most of the other tracks, which is a nice change of pace, if only they could have chosen more interesting lyrics, and "Earlybird" is an interesting direction that they (perhaps wisely) didn't pursue long-term. I know this has been a popular album over the years, but I kind of wonder whether Gleen Fry really achieved his goal that "We just didn’t want to make another limp-wristed L.A. country-rock record"?
Grew up listening to Eagles. Have seen Eagles. Thought I liked Eagles. I think I still enjoy the hits, despite them being objectively soft, but man I was surprised that this just did not hit. Made me want to go blast some Skynard.
Solid
Fine
Not bad, would like to listen to more of the eagles
Why does every Eagles song sound exactly the same? Why is every song by the Eagles a fucking love or heartbreak song? Jesus Christ, give it a rest. This was still an enjoyable listen. They have such a recognisable sound, something you'd hear on K-ROSE while you're flying a Regina at max speed at dusk. The Eagles put you into a very sombre mood, shame the sombre mood is always the same fucking thing and you just think about some girl that broke your heart. One of These Nights is such a better album than this. Probably not something I'd come rushing back to outside of the lead track.
Come on man, I feel mostly indifferent towards the fuckin Eagles. It's easy to put on in the back and isn't really bad by any means. It just gets bogged down for me with how similar a lot of it sounds, as well as just not really being something I would see myself listening to regularly. Shoutout to the abundance of banjo in this, goofy ass instrument
3.5
chill record 3.5 stars
I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles or something.
Easy on the ear background music. I didn’t hate it.
Not a huge fan of this one, almost feels too benign. Maybe that's the point but didn't give me anything to latch on to. Best track: Earlybird
The eagles are a great band and have a mountain of hit songs. Their individual albums by themselves are hit or miss. Their greatest hits album is deservedly one of the best albums of all time.
It's easy to listen to, the songs are all fine and produced very well. But I find it to be a bit too unadventurous and unexciting.
Decent mix of soft rock, country and ballads. Take it Easy far and away the best track, then it tales away a bit
I can see why they were popular. They definitely had a huge influence on other artists. There’s some decent work here. I’m just not the target audience.
Very nice album, I would say 3,5 stars but because we can't do halves, we will have to round it down a bit, because most of the songs were nice but there was only one that was really good. I enjoyed listening to it.
Very mid tier
Not as good as first listen, but still a fun album. "Train Leaves Here This Morning" and "Most of Us are Sad" are really good deep tracks.
This is #day62 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... strap on your cowboy boots, will you? I've never listened to an Eagles album before, sure, I know "Hotel California" and a few other hits, but this is my first dive into a full album. I was pleasantly surprised as someone who isn't a country fan. It feels like an amplified version of country to me, what they call country rock, with some folk, blues, and hard rock elements. Classic old-school rock, rich in acoustic arrangements and heartfelt vocals. One particularly standout track for me was "Most of Us Are Sad." Plus, the album artwork is beautiful and complements the music nicely. This is a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day63.
couple of good songs, very easy to listen to
I can’t believe I’m typing this but Marcel the shell with shoes on really ruined “peaceful easy feeling” for me
Better than I thought. I just remember being sick of hotel California and hating the eagles but I honestly enjoyed this album
Pretty standard rock album but did have a few good songs
It's OK - a little unfairly maligned? Earlybird was my favourite new track
Decent country rock, but nothing stood out for me. It was a pleasant listen and I wouldn't mind it being on, but I'm not actively putting any of this on my own playlist.
Some pretty good stuff on here; some that kinda just fades into the background.
Favorite track: Witchy Woman
When I lived in Japan, so many dads would tell me that they learned English by listening to The Eagles. Like, in terms of ranking English-language pop culture that adults referenced to me it went #1 The Eagles, #2 The Beatles, #3 American baseball #4 anything else (Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, various blockbust movie franchises, etc). Anyway, that's my weird Eagles anecdote in lieu of quoting The Big Lebowski for the millionth time. This album was exactly what I expected to hear after only knowing the singles.
Good easy listening. Feels very Eagles with that early 70's easy rock sound. Will most likely listen to again.
Okay starts off with some solid country rock. Some initial just hell yea classic rock vibes. But the album goes on I get why people hate the Eagles. Whatever juice it had to start is gone by the end.
3/4
Inoffensive, middle-of-the-road, dad rock. Just meh. 5/10
Some good songs but overall not great
Jaha, nähä. Det har varit ju inte så roligt. Trodde Eagles skulle vara bra. Men meh.
Eagles are a 5 star band but the first album is weak.
All Eagles albums sound like this to me
6/10 - I like the first two songs as I have heard them so many times. But they are also just great songs. The rest was just alright. I wanted to rate this higher before listening but it just did not work.
Boring country rock
🦅🦅🦅
Average album. Not bad, but not very exciting either. Best song according to me was Take the Devil.
Eagles have some songs that are fun to sing around a campfire or while out on the lake. Don't love, don't hate.
Good stuff
It's no worse than Hotel California
starts out strong but loses a lot of steam. favorite track: Take It Easy, obviously
Take It Easy is an absolute classic, no question about it, the opening chord is an iconic start to the album. However, the album as a whole does wane, particularly towards the end. Other standouts are Witchy Woman and Nightingale. 6/10.
Cringey lyrics, too many ooo ooo harmonies
This album runs either hot or cold. There are the three big hits we all know from the ubiquitous radio play and then there's the rest. There is such a disparity in the quality of the hits vs. the rest of the songs that it almost seems like two different bands or songs recorded at widely different points in the band's career. In the balance, this was just OK. If I ever feel like some Eagles I'll stick with their greatest hits. They're not a deep cuts band for me.
Propped up by Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling, otherwise this would have been 2 stars.
The album is OK. I can see a through-line from The Eagles to other bands I like with similar sounds, especially Wilco. But I didn't get into the songs on this album as much. The one track I liked is Train Leaves Here This Morning.
The singles are maybe 4 stars, but the rest is pretty rough and ranges from 1 to 2 stars. Really, this is probably a 2.5 star album, but it's a "round up" sort of day.
I expected so much more! Eagles! One of the giants of American softish rock. I'd heard all the big hitters before and thought there would be a bit more. All very jingly jangly. With some absolutely mind bending choices thrown in here and there. "Most of us are sad" is a jarring sad song seemingly put smack bang in the middle to stop us getting ahead of ourselves and relaxing into 40 minutes of fun country rock. Then the weird false bird noises randomly chucked into "Earlybird" felt like a very bad left field idea that nobody challenged! (They really should have!) Apart from that, it wasn't a bad ride really very Americana, very safe, some nice bits here and there. But felt quite samey throughout. In fact I'm sure "Train leaves here in the morning" WAS or IS a different Eagles track but that's by the by!
Lest we forget the Eagles have a song called “Chug All Night.” And it’s decent. Peaceful Easy Feeling is great, Take It Easy is an all-timer. Solid album.🌵
Surprised this is the album that made the list. Love the Eagles but I feel like their talent is showcased better elsewhere. There are a couple great songs though. And a few interesting creative decisions.
Good
Got to give credit where it's due...Take is Easy starts things off well enough and I might even go as far to say - great - with an assist by Jackson browne. And then i'm reminded of all things I bring to the table regarding my dislike of the Eagles. most of us are sad...John prine could maybe pull a song with that title off but the eagles do not have the chops. I liked some later tracks instrumentally - when the get off the beaten path - but overall songs are underwritten. A begrudging 3
A couple great hits, but I found the rest to be a bit lack luster
Great.
Rock, Pop, 1972 -> 3
This is like the ultimate Dad rock album. Pretty much everything is just this light and breezy soft rock sound. Lots of harmonies, a little Southern twang. Completely inoffensive. I liked Hotel California a lot, but this didn't do it as much for me. It starts strong with "Take It Easy", but never quite gets back to that level again ("Peaceful Easy Feeling" gets close near the end). There's a few decent tracks here and there, but a few pretty big misses too ("Chug All Night" is a rough listen, the lyrics are cringe-inducing). This is alright overall, but not exceptional to me. There's a few songs for the playlist, but I probably don't need to hear the whole thing again. A decent easy-listening album, but not their best. Favorite song: Take It Easy Other: Witchy Woman, Nightingale, Train Leaves Here This Morning, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Tryin' 8/29/24
I like this album a fair bit. The road trip energy is strong and it just feels like a good time. I forgot what’s good about if now but I remember enjoying it,
Loved hearing the hits off this album. I was however, slightly underwhelmed with most of the deep cuts. I see why most didn't make the hit list. With that said, I really do enjoy listening for unfamiliar music from familiar artist, always looking for a new discovery. I understand not every song is gonna be banger.
Good
boring highlights: take it easy, nightingale, earlybird (aug 23 2024)
If there's one thing that'll win me over in music generally, it's gorgeous harmonies. I mean this album's not filled to the brim with them, but Henley and Frey's vocals, separately or in harmony, are very nice on the ears. They work especially well on the more subdued songs like the incredible 'Take It Easy', 'Train Leaves Here This Morning', and 'Most of Us Are Sad'. I don't get people who go out of their way to make hating this band a whole thing - the most common criticism leveled against the Eagles is that "they're soulless". I genuinely don't understand what that means, nor how someone can reach such a brash conclusion. Is it cause they find them boring? Is it cause they're popular and "lower-common-denominator" appealing? While occasionally melodramatic, the writing didn't stand out as terrible or anything. To my ears, the Eagles are perfectly alright.
Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling are the hits here. I discovered Train Leaves Here This Morning and Earlybird. Aside from that, this album didn't really do it for me. The hits are the hits but are really a bit overplayed. Not even sure why. It's pretty mellow stuff. Easy listening. There were some electric guitar flourishes I wasn't expecting and enjoyed throughout, but it was a bit dull overall.
Just okay
alright i guess
Perfectly adequate; that is to say, not bad
wwas gud cowboy shit
Chill ballades
Nice and breezy
Not a big fan of the fucking eagles 2.8
https://youtu.be/-JlmvtAHhnc?si=Iu1PJW8V1mtYzYc0
A few decent songs and great harmonies
a couple of classics but not much else
Sort of bland, but you can't deny the high concentration of catchy songwriting.
All yacht rock is kinda copying them
Oooo witchAY woman
mjög fínir sprettir
I understand what they were trying to do. A lot of rythm switches and experimental time signatures, but it also has to sound good. 3/5
This is not my favorite era of the Eagles, if indeed I have one.
Good debut but not their best. Most of the songs are average. Couple of great songs obviously. You know which ones :)
These guys loved Crosby, Stills, and Nash. "Chug All Night" is a weird CSN-flavored sex jam, and I don't like it. The instrumentation and melodies are mostly great across the board, but the lyrics on quite a few tracks give me pause. There's a self-seriousness about them that doesn't do 'Eagles' any favors. A fake-deepness, if you would. Also some young-divorced-man energy. There are a few killer songs on here though. Highlights: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Nightingale
I kind of agree with The Dude here
Not the Eagles best work, but an alright listen
Good, liked the guitar, the songs themselves didn’t stand out to me though.
I know the Eagles are a renowned band, but this felt like extremely generic rock to me, not that interesting at all. 'Most Of Us Are Sad' was probably the song that stood out the most to me.
Starting off with "Take it Easy" and "Witchy woman" had me thinking that maybe I'm getting old and boring and appreciate "The Eagles" more than I used to. But the rest of the album was pretty bland, generic dad rock. The instrumentation is really good, for example the banjo of "Earlybird" was cool. The lyrics are not good but adequate. An ok album but just take the hits and leave the rest.
"It's been a long night and I hate the fucking eagles." My take is not the Dude's but I get it. Edgeless, overpolished corporate country bitchrock. Still. take it easy's a good song, the harmonies, banjo and the meisner singing on take the devil are all pretty tight.
Very good singles, lotta mid otherwise. The vocal harmonies carry
Average tunes with 1 standout because Jackson Browne is a hell of a songwriter and covering him is a surefire way to get a boost.
Earlybird is fun
