Reviews (page 7 of 7)

The depth of my love for The Knife‘s haunting synths sits transfixed to Fever Ray‘s luke-warm puddle

Ehhhh. Too moody!

What happens when you bring together really interesting music with people who can’t sing? I probably would’ve like this album a whole lot better if it were just the music.

Ummm...OK. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. Definitely not something I'd seek out again.

This was perfectly fine background music while I was working, but it didn't grab me in any way. 2.5.

It is interested and beautiful, but I don't think my life is any better having known it. +1 point for a cover of Nick Cave's STRANGER THAN KINDNESS.

I could just about tolerate this as background music but I didn’t have the enthusiasm to listen to it again so 1 or 2* ? Please let tomorrow’s album be a good one 🤞

Not my thing but interesting at least.

weird but good

The type of album included to make it "1001". Ah c'mon there are a lot out there to be listened.

I do not love the vocals. It's alright at best.

Not my style but better than I was expecting

Not as bad as most things labeled as electronic, but almost engineered to annoy me. Weird vocals, but pleasant music. I only skipped two songs!

atmospheric and minimal but like in the bad way. best tracks: If I Had a Heart, When I Grow Up, Keep the Streets Empty for Me

I was really into The Knife - Deep Cuts record a few years back, but sadly this record largely washed over me without anything really standing out at all. Karin's vocals started to grate on me fairly early on, which didn't help.

Not my bag.

Not my kind of music. Another one of those albums which I don’t quite know in what context I need to be listening to it.

Boring

This might be something that would unlock for me with repeat listens, or it might not be very good, I'm pretty bad at guessing which direction a record is going to go in those terms. On this listen it didn't speak to me at all.

Very Bjork but needed to be less Bjork

Mmmmm ok

Couldn't get into the voices.

If one of my mates had made this album I'd think it was great. Being presented it I feel it sounds like something one of my mates would make.

I bit too much of the same…meh

This one is right on the threshold between a 3 and a 2. It was fine, but I just forgot about it very quickly.

idek what type of music this was. maybe experimental techno? idk not my thing

Disturbing one

Caution: Do not listen to this whilst enjoying a meal or snack. It's just disgusting how many mouth noises are front and center in the vocals. Every click of the tongue, half swallow, saliva shift, etc. is right there in your ears. It's such a weird mixing choice to keep that in there and produce those sounds so prominently. ASMR to the 1000th degree - but gross. Mouth sounds aside, the beats and movement in the songs are good. It feels like a Bjork album and sounds like one too. I do like the instrumentation especially Triangle Walks, but mostly, this album is annoying.

Genre: Electronic pop Singles: ----------------------------- If I Had a Heart When I Grow Up Triangle Walks Seven 2.5

This was a little too weird for me I think. Perhaps more listens would change that but not sure I want to invest time into this album. Creepy and uncomfortable would be my takeaways from this. And I don't even want to give the artist's styling the time of day...

Drömskt och suggestivt men inte min grej

It’s giving Bjork. It’s giving boogey man. It’s… interesting. Might be something I throw on to do some angry painting.

solid electronic sound, not top tier in my opinion.

I can see the appeal if you’re into electronic music with a purely atmospheric purpose. The downtempo beats and ethereal vocals match with the restrained electronic elements to create a haunting and unique atmosphere but it’s definitely not for me.

OK chill bleep bloop.

This is not my thing, and her voice is often irritating to me. But I always liked the opening track as the "Vikings" theme.

Like the vikings theme but overall a but too aggressive with the use of screaming eagle sounds as music...

This was just ok.

Interesting in its own way, but I can't imagine a single time in my life when putting this album on would improve things, unless I had an overwhelming urge to feel morbidly dreary

12th January 2023 Listened in the morning getting ready for work. Chilled evening watching pale blue eye. Not my bag, like the ethereal techno vibe but wouldn’t revisit.

Did not like this at all. Like a rip off of Bjork but not good. Surprised as I like the Knife but I just found this irritating

Good for: Lift Music, Cinematic Landscape Shots and Contemplating your future Bad for: Listening to as an album.

HAISTA!!! HAISTA!!! Nimeä.. ei ääneen saa sanoa... heh...

Started of interesting then just didn't evolve. Got bored.

It's too incongruous. Chanting, melodic, low energy. Dead air.

This album got away with highway robbery getting on to this list. I'm sure this is supposed to be a transformative exotic album, but it's mostly pretty cringy.

But boring. Little bit gothic with electronics, but thankfully not nine inch nails!

It's an interesting listen, but I don't know that it's one I'll revisit. This album contains some interesting sounds, textures, and some good songs, but it isn't particularly memorable to me.

Never heard of them or this album before. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It definitely will take me more time to make an honest judgment on it. For now, it's a solid 2.5/5.

While not as bad as most electronica, it still wasn’t that enjoyable

Very uninteresting. I can't find much appeal in this. It's a borderline 1, but it didn't annoy me quite enough for that.

Hmm what to say about this one? It suffered from a common problem I’ve had with the albums on this list: it would be better either instrumental or with a different vocalist. The music was good, the singing was a turnoff. I like electronic music and I like some avant-garde music…but in not this combination of it. Reminded me a lot of Sigur Ros which I wasn’t a fan of.

Nothing special. The instrumentals are cool but the vocals leave a lot to be desired. This sort of electronic-pop had been done before so I’m not sure why this is included on the list. Again, not bad, but not great.

Dull ! But the lyrics made me smile

Before listening: I love the Knife a lot, but never got into Fever Ray that much. Time to change that. After listening: It was alright, nothing that grabbed my attention as much as the Knife.

M'attendais pas à ça du tout! Du trip hop, et pas nul! Répétitif mais franchement y a quelque chose, j'en ai gardé une: If I had a heart content d'avoir découvert même si c'est pas quelque chose que j'écouterai souvent

Not bad but ended up using it as background music while I shopped online. A little forgettable

I listened to Fever Ray right off the back of Massive Attack's Protection and at some point I wasn't sure whether it was a continuation of the same record. Just as dull, 2/5.

If you remove the vocals entirely, I MIGHT listen to it again.

I bored pretty quickly with this…

This was... a weird album. The distortion on many of the songs was just disorienting and unpleasant. There was nothing on this album that really stood out or made me excited to listen to. Just wanted it to be over.

Not for me. Didn’t HATE it but will never play it again, either.

I like sounds and instruments

Too ambient for me.

2 Depressing 1.5/5

Whenever I get an album like this I struggle to give the artist the benefit of the doubt, and just label it "weird for the sake of being weird". It's pretentious and Björk-y, minimalist and one-dimensional. Pitchfork-reading Gen Xer fodder, basically. On the plus side, it's not awful - it has recognisable melodies and catchiness etc. It's a unique enough sound (Björk comparison aside) that it deserves a listen, even if to just find out you don't like it. The big problem I have with it is that it's too long. When every song is exactly the same you shouldn't make your album an hour long. This would've be an easy 3 at half the length. 2/5.

Probably could've taken a nap during this. Album didn't go anywhere, but had interesting production at times. Not good enough to be considered must listen though.

The album is not good or really enjoyable. I did not know this album existed nor that this artist existed. It is all electronic music and with weird vocals. Nothing is memorable. It is about 50 minutes long. Glad it was done. I did not skip any songs so that's a plus. I will round up.

It was an interesting listen, but it failed to captivate me. I feel like this is really dependent on your mood. Not digging it this time around...

It’s not that bad but tries too hard

slow, trancy.

Sounds a bit like a futuristic video game soundtrack.

Great vocals, but the music is lifeless and lacks any form of entertainment.

As an instrument album, this would have been fantastic. But once the vocals arrived, I started to hit FF. Didn't add. If it gets re-released without the vocals, it's a five.

Neat bjork vibes, but not really my jelly.

Not my style.

There were a few cool tracks. I liked the first song and 'Keep The Streets Empty For Me'. It's an interesting album. Some interesting sonic textures. Not really the kind of music I'm into so it was a bit of a struggle for me sometimes, but I can appreciate that this is pretty good if you like this kind of thing (stark, electronic music sound-scapes that occasionally become dance music).

There's something kind of cool and minimal and Nordic here... but nothing really clicked with me. 2.5.

I was sort of excited by this one because I know and like If I Had A Heart (from Vikings of course). Turns out that was the only track on the album worth listening too. It's just sort of weird and droning.

Yeah, not entirely sure how I feel about it. I didn't not enjoy it, I just didn't get that into it. 2.5 stars

Nice bg music for work or reading. 2.5 stars.

Ordinarily, I like my shape shifters to have more power pop sensibilities. This particular one doesn't have the hooks that say a Taylor Swift can't run away from. There are a lot of interesting moments happening here, and I can see where some folks ride hard for this album. This is the second album in 3 days that came from the "deleted from the original edition" list (also known as "77 Albums That You Don't Really Need To Hear Now Before You Die"). I wouldn't be sad to see it completely erased from the list, but I was surprised by how it captivated me on many tracks. It's fine, I certainly don't hate it with the white hot intensity of 1,000 suns. But there are many albums one could list that deserve a place on the list over Fever Ray. Or maybe I'm just in need of some good guitar rock after the week of moody albums this algorithm has thrown at me.

Songschreiberisch so leidlich interessant, musikalisch irrelevant.

July 30, 2021 I did not particularly enjoy this. Some of the backing tracks are alright but can't get on board with the vocals.

Nice beats but not my cup of tea

Did not like.

Just can't get into this one at all.

Very generic. Could be nice to have in the background while you're doing something else, but so would any random album like this. Nothing special about it. "Seven" was the standout song for me.

Kinda boring. I've been enjoying ambient / trip-hop type stuff (Tricky, Goldfrapp), but this was so unvaried that I had to check a few times I wasn't listening to the same song on repeat.

I've definitely grown to appreciate and like electronic music much more over the last decade or so - this was a totally unknown artist for me so I had zero preconceived notions about it and was excited to hear it... In the end though....it's nice-ish enough but hasn't stood out to me; not yet sure why this is groundbreaking or impactful? It may be unfair to have to rate an album after just one listen (or one day) and there's nothing i actively dislike about this (although some of the deep vocals are a little distracting) but thus far i don't hear it as much more than decent-enough background/ambient music. 2 for "it's fine" - just not hearing much magic.

Started out well enough as the music was smooth and intriguing but then eventually just became redundant and plodding. None of the vocals did anything for me and the male led tracks were basically like monk chants. Last song was terrible and really wrapped up the whole thing on a sour note.

No logré ni escucharlo completo

Yeah is okay.

Extremely unique and the instrumentals were fun but not really my style. Would give a 2.5 if I could but not 3

I'm into their intros and percussion. The actual songs..idk

Vikings theme song! Otherwise not for me

Pretty good background music

1,75. There was one interesting song but the rest of them were just not my cup of tea. A weird electronic metal like vibe

Gets a 2 because it’s way better than yesterday’s and I need to have some sort of fucking curve here.

Not my style at all...

Dystert, 00’er elektronisk pop, indkapslende, stemningsfyldt

Strange electro-pop that occasionally drifts into interesting, more often swings the other way to annoying. On the opening track you can hear one of the singers smacking their lips. It's disgusting, and it's also somehow their most listened-to track. This doesn't belong on this list. Best track: Now's the Only Time I Know

2009. Key Songs: If I Had a Heart

laaaaaamme...

The way her voice was produced in the knife was annoying, this is no better. This is music without urgency or meaning.

Painful

Ugh no

first album I do not have the strength to finish

What are we doing here man In what world is this milquetoast lo-fi electronic nonsense an album you must listen to

Meine Güte: Wie mit dem Tretroller auf der Autobahn. Langeweile pur und das zu xten Mal.

I will never be in the mood to listen to this again. Even for the song or two that I feel worked. But the ones that did could easily have been on a Knife album. So I should just listen to them.

Destaco Seven. Not my cuppa tea

2 - TERRIBLE

Didn’t like this enough to finish listening

Not for me

This was terrible. I found it bleak and miserable and lacking anything if merit.

Nah. The first track had its mysterious atmosphere and was filled with neat layered synths. But when she started singing on the second track…it started to go down hill. I love a great female vocalist, but her voice is just grating. Maybe it’s the style or genre, maybe it’s where she’s from, but I just couldn’t do it. I’m happy to say that the instrumentation and musical ideas expressed here are innovative and… interesting. I can definitely give it that. But I just couldn’t get into this past that. Not just because of her voice, either, but because I just couldn’t relate. This one wasn’t for me.

This is noise pollution

Like, the first song is good. The rest is pretty boring, or annoying, or just not very good.

An album by a Swedish electronica artist I’ve never heard of, who used to be part of an electronica duo act I’ve also never heard of. She’s a BIG fan of using distorted vocals; a lot of the tracks sound like a parent doing an exaggerated monster voice for their child. The songs dragged on and on, a never ending stream of uninteresting minimalist beats and weird mixes. The album was 49 minutes long, but felt twice that length. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Usually with electronica albums you can at least dance to the beats and sort of zone out, but this was just garbage that had no rhythm. Fever Ray will join the Hall of Shame as my ninth 1/5

Man this album is not for me even in the slightest. I actively hated listening to this album.

absolute dog shit

Was a bit gutted this wasn't sugar ray. Every morning is a banger

didn’t fully listen but this is not my vibe

Awful for me not a fan at all. Sounds like Bjork with electronic noodling 0.5/5

Not really my style of music

I came extremely close to giving up listening to this record. While I liked the instrumentals, the vocals were annoying and the lyrical content is even worse.

1/5 I suppose I could listen to this as background music but I don't understand the hype around it. Cool if you enjoyed it though.

Weird, and not in a good way. Would have been nice if, er, they had attempted a tune here or there, but sadly it was not to be.

Never heard but I saw that the first song had 100M listening and thought it might be something good I missed... it was very disappointing. Horrible singing over bad and lazy beats. Gets boring within the first song because every track sounds the same.

I appreciate this project for the breadth of music it exposes me to, but I just don’t like electronica. Every time I was beginning to enjoy a beat on this album, the vocals kicked in and absolutely ruined it for me.

I hate it

the perfect album to play at my funeral, because I'll be dead and won't have to listen to this junk

This is the kind of album that should interest me. But after bothering to listen to the first two tracks, I just skipped through the rest. It's completely lacking. No voice that draws me in, and no synth patterns that lull or captivate me. "Fever Ray" can't awaken any fever in me; it's simply meaningless. Something like this won't stand the test of time.

What is this exactly...I am so unsettled after listening.

Ohne Höhepunkte aber stört nicht.

Not for me.

Again, just not good music.

Can't be doing all of this

I hate the vocals. Whatever that pitch shifted thing is that they are doing with their voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. Now it’s not all the time, but it’s enough. And there aren’t really any redeeming qualities to make this appealing at all to me. Some of the songs without the pitch shifting aren’t terrible… but “not terrible” is no way to make an album. Or even a fraction of one.

could of died without listening to this

if i could give this negative stars i would

Bjork from Temu 1 ⭐️

Didn’t listen. Totally missed this one.

Blind album and artist. Hard no. Not my thing. I know the knife and I also dont like them very much so this fits

Terrible

It's dog shit. There is nothing new, nothing original, plain and tasteless. You can hear Bjork's influence, but it feels like a squeezed-out and dried-up version of Bjork, very bad. It was a waste of time for me. 1/5 —————————————— No liked songs

Thought I was gonna love this after the first few seconds. But it was a bit of a slog. Maybe a bit too soon after Björk!

No thanks

Now yall playin in my face

I suppose it is some kind of (bad) joke that this album is on this list.

Just a bunch of background noises to me. It was not really annoying, but it wasn't really anything to be honest. Someone who studied music will undoubtedly say this is some amazing piece of art. But I listen to be entertained, which I very much wasn't with this record. 1/5

More crap that sucks major suckage in the suckiest way.

what the fuck am i listening to today NOPE. done. fucking done. can't stand this waterdroplet drum sound. violent hatred. water torture. I'm having a violent reaction to the audio, to all the sounds coming out of this. zero stars

Sounds like someone playing around with beats in their bedroom. Not good.

The first song had a cool dark drum and bass thing going on, but I can’t say I was very interested after that. It devolved into a weird (not the good kind) of poppy electronic music that just isn’t my jam.

Bjork called and she wants her weird music hippie goddess title back. For this release, Spotify also suggested the "Songs To Test Speakers With" playlist. Seems apt. It's vaguely interesting but ultimately not something I'm really excited about hearing again and again.

No thanks, I listened to the first couple of tracks and then couldn't get through the rest.....automatic 1 star.

I do not have the fever for this album. When I saw the number of listens I was thinking I was in for a treat that I just had missed. I found that I wish I had missed it still.

Compelling opening! Grungy and blues, watered down but gritty. "Give me more" is the feeling this song leaves. Many tracks leave me wanting more. Pretty chill album, not a fan of the vocal but the instrumentation is dope. Compelling. Vocal styling detracts from album enjoyability. Excellent background noise. Atmospheric and bassy. Ambient sounds highly musical, well produced. Coconut is the most listenable track.

Hey. You can make me listen to this garbage. I still have control.

Just not for me. DNF.

Man this shit stinks. Ethereal in the bad way. Technically technically decent I think but it is also a lot of mid nothing.

Utterly Unlistenable

Not for me

Knock-off Bjork. The only way it could be worse is if it was actual Bjork.

Started good but got too experimental. 1/5

This is not off to a good start. Depressing Swedish electronica is not something I would ever listen too. This is like if a Swedish girl decide Bjork wasn't weird enough. I bet David Bowie was listening to this when he wrote the songs for Blackstar. Triangle Walks has the music from every 80s/early 90s movie that took place in the rainforest. I understand Swedes have an odd fixation with death but this is super depressing. This is awful. Coconut is the best song on the album even if it is almost 7 minutes long. I liked her better in The Knife.

Too mellow and boring

not my type of music

not for me

The ugly album cover was already an indication...

rubbish

I remember The Knife trending for a second. That was alright I guess. This is tedious and unlistenable. Nothing beats with nothing melodies and nails on a chalkboard vocals.

I enjoyed the instrumentals as background music. Did not enjoy the vocals. But more importantly, I don't think this belongs on the list. Doesn't seem significant enough or special. Feels run of the mill electronica. 1.5. I round down. If I thought it belonged on the list it would be a 2.5. 1=Crap that shouldn't be here 2=I didn't like it but get why it's here 3=I thought it was ok or even like it, get why it's here, but won't revisit 4=I like it, will revisit 5=This is some of the best music I've ever heard and will continue listening to it

if i never hear this again it’ll be too soon

was kinda just wishing it was over Will I listen to again: 0%

strange and not my cup of tea. did not enjoy

Reminded me of Bjork. I hate Bjork.

Boring lyrics over chill euro pop music.

Not into it.

Not quite

I really didn't like this one. It felt boring, flat, and I really didn't understand why it even made this list at all. :(

Keep the Streets Empty For Me has a cinematic atmosphere that I enjoyed. As much as I tried to appreciate the album's production, I cannot give it more than 1⭐ when I actively despised the singer's voice on every single track.

niggus biggus triggus fagottigus skibidus toiletus

This is a 10 song album with only 1 song on it. Every single song was exactly the same. A dull repetitive synth beat, and some weird over tuned whiny singing. Triangle Walks had some nice music pick up, but other than that, this was a total slog. Couldn't wait for it to end. Best song: Triangle Walks

Just no. 1/5

They should have seen a doctor for the fever...

Not my thing

Not loving the electonic

Electronica that's chill to the point of being boring. Didn't click with me at all

Nope. Not for me. Too dark, too deep, too abstract to get into.

Another album where I have zero idea why or how it’s on this list.

Someone paid money to produce this. I would love to ask them why.

Not really my cup of tea.

Personally getting zero enjoyment out of this one. Gave it a shot and I just can't really get behind this one. It's experimental and weird, but not my type of experimental and weird.

It was interesting. I wouldn't gravitate towards listening to it again but it was good enough to get work done with it during the first and only listen.

I can safely say I didn’t enjoy anything about this. Not the absolute worst thing on the list, but it also reminds me why I despise most music of this genre.

Very ordinary electronic music, mildly atmospheric, but in no way innovative or an album that anyone really needed to hear.

Really bad, don’t like it, yucky, ugly. 1.1/10.

A compilation of electronic experiments. I nearly fell asleep after the second track

many other complaints but the disgusting sound of lips on the opening track are basically an automatic 1 on their own

There’s an occasional fun best with the drums but other than that it’s not good.

Irritating

What the fuck have I just listened to

Brutal stretch of albums for this listener. This one couldn't keep my interest and I'm not going back for a 2nd listen.

Repetitive much?

I'm starting to think, 980 albums in, that there is only 200 maybe 300 albums max that you need to hear before you die. Fever Ray is not one of them. The vocals are really annoying

This is not my style of music at all. Hate it. Will never ever listen again. I wish I didn't have to listen the first time. I'd really love a rubric that shows how these 1001 albums were determined.

Didnt have the patience for this one

# 190 : The only way to get this album played is to put it in lists. This was really bad.

Nope, didn't like this. Sounded really straightforward with some odd vocal effects and sounds added to give the impression of creativity. Bet music journos/pitchfork love it, one of those where I just don't get it. There seems to be a genre of indie that amounts to strange production choices and I'm not a fan.

No go…reminds me of music from horror movie.

You go to that trendy and expensive new hair boutique only to realize - too late! - that the stylists aren’t talented enough for Great Clips. This album is the Surströmming-infused water the place provides.

Waste of time honestly. There are some really weird choices for the post 2000s albums. Rating: 1.3

Skip this one.

REALLY DON'T LIKE CONCRETE WALLS

Really don't care for this minimalist style. Staring at your shoes and regretting life's choices

It sounds like Cyndi Lauper doing a Bjork impersonation to a series of Peter Gabriel backing tracks - and while that sounds like it’d be good, it just didn’t hit for me.

Not for me, maybe just the wrong time to try listening to it. Might try again some day.

Deffo not my thing. Pretty unsettling.

Horrible, I'd see this as a soundtrack for a bad sci-fi film.

Creepy weird, dont get it

A hilarious shit-tier Peter Gabriel wannabe project. Whiny nasal-sounding little kids singing terrible lyrics is sped up and/or slowed down and dubbed over B-side instrumental passages. It's laughable, annoying and abysmal on every level. Couldn't even finish listening to it.

Shit was ass

I’m usually open minded with music, but yikes.

Listened to some of this yesterday then finished while I was hungover af on my way back from picking up my car from an impound lot. Was not a vibe at all. Fuck this album and the government

Go back to the kitchen lady

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Now's the Only Time I Know (7) 2 - Triangle Walks (5) 3 - Seven (4)

This album was a complete waste of time. This hardly registers as music to me. The vocals are what prevents it from feeling like a repetitive mess, but the vocals are also the weakest part of each song. Just bad all around. Favorite track: Coconut

This shit sucks. I didn’t even listen to the last few songs because it was bugging me so bad. I read some critic reviews saying it’s not catchy and you have to listen to it a bunch of times to get all the nuances. No thank you.

I have listened to happier Damien Rice albums. Play a cheerful song you yuppy clowns.

What an annoying, maddening record… I couldn’t wait to be finished with this ordeal. This is the kind of music customer services put on when they don’t actually want you to keep waiting….

Not interested

So many moaning sounds and boring vibe

Wow that was bad. I had high hopes after “If I Had A Heart" and then it just got worse and worse and worse. By the end my ears were actually hurting. Why is this album on the list at all? Just a bad album.

For some reason when I went to listen to this on Youtube song 1 was not included. Doesn't matter though I'm pretty sure it would have not changed my opinion on this piece of junk. Who buys this garbage? Fever Ray? Sugar Ray? If you have a Ray in your band name you're gonna suck.

Not very good at all. A weird and not so good combo of alternative and electronic. Skipped several songs as they just weren’t listenable. 2.1/10

wut lmao 1.5

Sucks ass. I hate it.

Awful, stop sending me this shit

Plodding sadness.

Didn't like it

Didn't much care for the genre. I'm more blues rock.

What utter rubbish!

Just artsy electronic music that's not really good. 1/10.

a whole lot of nope

Only one ray is worth listening to... and it is a very sweet ray...

I do not like this.

Super cool. primal slow techno.
