Reviews (page 8 of 13)

The overall album is good, but not spectacular. I think the start is amazing, but there are more than a couple of duds here, song I would never listen to on their own. It kinda works and I get it, cant be too harsh but I wasn't mind blown

I like the one song but the rest is meh

Opening track was strong, but settled into “okay,” after that.

Buen álbum con buenas canciones pero no me llega a sorprender del todo

Don't really like this kind of genre seems alright though I think i know one of these songs not really a fan

fav songs: heads will roll dragon queen hysteric sleek, dance, moody 60/100

Karen O! Yeah! I think I actually like their later stuff better, but this should be fun. Don’t think I have actually listened to this album before… No, hadn’t heard this before. At first, I have to admit I wasn’t loving it. And then Heads Will Roll… well I was in! The thing is, I count myself a Karen O fan. I loved the collab she did with danger mouse Lux Prima. And I really liked Cool it Down from 2022, which is obviously too recent to be on this list. She and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are developing as artists. Yay! But this… this is uneven af. I probably would never throw it on for myself. I want to give it a 4 out of love, but it really deserves a 3. So…3 it is. Boolean rating: yes, I suppose it is good to hear the earlier work of an artist of which you actually like the later work better.

It was a little bit electronic for me, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I liked her voice, I liked how atmospheric the songs felt. I'm not sure I'd listen to the album again, but I'd be happy to hear any of the songs if they were on. Fav song: Soft Shock Least fav: Shame and Fortune

Very yeah yeah yeahs. I get a bit too familiar with the vocals after a while.

A pretty varied album. Some bangers, but overall just good.

Maybe im gooning a bit too much but I only added a few and I love this song so much some of them little bit of them so nice would vote 4 but I only added like 3 tbh

This was an average album to me. There are some cool aspects to this band, but I find the lead singer relatively uninteresting and had a tough time getting past that aspect of it. I did really like Dull Life, thought that was a great track. Heads Will Roll was decent, but not amazing. The rest of this was relatively forgettable for me. Not that it was terrible, it just wasn't that engaging. 3 stars.

OK, that was a surprise. I’d only heard the band’s name and was bracing myself for the usual alternative rock stuff. Screeching guitars, whiny singers, self-centred lyrics and no hook lines. But no, the album is catchy, easy on the ear – a sort of modernised cross between Blondie and Goldfrapp. Rock with pop appeal. I don’t think I’ll go and listen to the band’s entire discography just because I’m a fan now, but I’ll definitely be playing this album again. Despite the daft band name and the rubbish artwork.

I'll stick with the first album and EP. Nothing awful, but no real standouts, and I don't see myself coming back to this one. Shadows and Fortunes is its best moments

There’s some good songs on here but I was disappointed when it came out. The movement away from garage rock doesn’t super work for me as well. Still, tunes

Started off strong but fell off quick. Most of the lyrics don't make sense

Fun album with a few songs I chose to download; Heads Will Roll, Skeletons and Runaway were my faves, upbeat music which was good to work to

Only knowing the song ‘Maps’, I wasn’t expecting the sounds I was hearing from my speakers. I liked the sense of urgency I was getting from most of the songs, especially on the front half. A lot synth pop was being pumped out around the time this album was released, and this stand out, like its relentlessly pushing through the crowd. Almost a 4.

This vocalist is great. I like the first few songs on the album, expecting and awaiting straight peak upbeat indie, but then for a good 20 minutes is a slow laid back emotional dwelling that drags for a bit without changing much, and the songs are stripped from pretty much everything besides basic drums and vocals. It picks back up again on track seven, and then dips once more. The vocals start to get very breathy and the tracks just kinda loop. Like it's not bad but I'm not engaged whatsoever. The production is still absolutely fantastic and it definitely boosts the album a ton. I can tell why some people would like this a lot but it's just not anything special outside the well done singles.

Top : Dull Life Flop : Dragon Queen

these guys are fun. I listened to them back in the day and used a couple of tracks in spin class - my yellow country teeth LOLLL - went to see them in Bologna in 2024 what a treat!

This one reminds me of the journey to womanhood in junior high. It explores the rawness of the age, the hedonism of emotions, and a significant step towards maturity.

Head will roll palazo

I like this album, a very solid 3. Gave off that feel-good nostalgic vibes. Enjoyable experience overall.

New Rave (tenk Dance-Punk blanda med Electro House). Har ligget sjuk, så har ikke fått lyttet ordentlig til dette. Kjenner igjen én sang, Heads Will Roll, fra før. Det engasjerer meg ikke nevneverdig, men det er langt fra dårlig. Top 3: Dull Life, Soft Shock, Heads Will Roll

Strong start and end, dips in the middle, cool soundscape

Never let anyone convince you this is one of the 1001 greatest albums of all time. I'm not even convinced it should be considered one of 101 greatest albums of 2009. It's fine. 3 Stars

I mean, it's okay, but I'm fairly sure I heard all this back in the days of Ultravox and The Cocteau Twins.

Ich feiere "Fever To Tell", als das hier raus kam, wollte ich nicht so recht mitgehen. Jetzt fand ich es gut..

Meh. Rather listen to their debut Best: Heads Will Roll, Runaway, Hysteric. Worst: Shame and Fortune, Dragon Queen, Faces.

Liked it, didn’t love it, but had never heard it before. I could see how it may grow on me in the future, but just okay for now.

It was gud. Very energetic.

Poppy, radio friendly, indie rock n roll. Some nice tunes, not my sort of thing. Poor lyrics in parts with repetition a frequent gimic used.

Didn't hate it didn't love it, firmly in the middle for me, but I have to pay respect as there were definitely songs I've heard before and still used in mixes today. Definitely built the foundation for some songs that are still going to this day.

‘Zero’ was nothing to write home about before the album bounced into ‘heads will roll’ a solid song for getting on the dance floor. ‘Soft shock’ came next with a building atmospheric presence that finally hit half way through the next song ‘skeleton’ which felt like it had a Scottish underbelly and the vocals were lovely throughout. The tempo then cooled again for my favorite song on the album ‘dull life’ which soon upped tempo again and had my feet tapping along. ‘Shame and fortune’ followed a similar vibe. ‘Runaway’ felt like a slightly dark love song but I liked it. ‘Dragon Queen’ felt like it didn’t quite fit on the album and left me disappointed and very much like a filler track. ‘Hysteric’ and ‘little shadow’ followed this similar change to the album in feeling like the dance had fallen out the album and like the band are going more down a rock route which I don’t think suits.. only to finish on the song ‘faces’ which merged the dance and rock together giving a good end to the album. Overall a nice listen.

No esta mal. Las versiones acústicas me gustaron

Thought this was a little repetitive in parts but was the best of the "why have they picked this album from the back catalogue" week that we seem to be in.

electronica… punk? that can happen?

We enjoyed this. They have a distinct sound and we enjoyed the journey of this album.

Solid and fun.

soft shock was my fav

Huh never knew "Heads Will Roll" came from this as I was only aware of the hype remix. Fun sounds, vocalist gets a little shrilly but I think it was more of a mixing issue. Favorite Songs: Heads will Roll, Runaway

A very pop rock album, but also very representative of the time, of the transition to the 2010s. The tracks show a good combination of electronic sounds with guitar and drums. They have very upbeat, happy and danceable songs, but they balance it out with more calm tracks, however, its those songs that I didn't like. It could be because of the overly epic, dramatic style, too reminiscent of 2010s pop scene, or imo that the nature of those tracks didn't fully fit with the singer's voice. A highlight for me was Zero. The singer shows a particular character in that one, that I couldn't find in any other song. It reminded me a bit of the sound of Barbi Recanati, specially in her song "Que no".

Soaring layered melodies, a driving sense of force and grandeur, yeah. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeaaaaaah. These are marvellous musical constructions, but there is this ongoing sense that is exactly what they are, a kind of repeated construct instead of actual songs. This is perhaps unfair to say, but it is the underwhelming sense I get as I go along. I hear it in their other songs, too. So, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeahs. It's another one of their songs. They're great, but they feel like some manufactured alternate version of the millennial whoop.

I dig the sound and it there are some highlights but I'm glad I listened to the other album first. I really appreciated how punk it was and this feels like a deviation from that. Still a solid album Highlights: Heads Will Roll, Runaway

Mid? Kinda cool though. 00s rock is sick.

i would've eaten this up at 19. heads will roll is still such a banger

More pop than rock, not a guitar in sight, but decent vocals and melodies. Tolerable.

Didn't really give this the time it deserved but I enjoyed it and will come back to it

Solid album with some notable hits.

Nice rock n' roll!

Lowk bangers. Always heard Heads will roll, but never knew who sang it. Zero and Soft Shock hit crazy too. Not necessarily my style but mess w it.

Album Review 099 It’s Blitz by Yeah Yeah Yeahs (2009) Rating: 3.5/5 I’ve been a fan of Yeah Yeah Yeahs since their debut, Fever to Tell, and I consider Karen O’s 2019 collaboration with Danger Mouse to be a highlight of the last ten years. However, my opinion on It’s Blitz! is divided. The opening is strong with driving dancefloor indie, but the quality drops noticeably in the middle. I find Karen O to be at her most compelling when she slows it down, and the album closer, Little Shadow, is one of the most beautiful and haunting songs YYYs have recorded. If the other tracks on It’s Blitz even came close to the quality of Zero, Head Will Roll and Little Shadows, it’d be an easy 5/5 but there too much skippable filler here for me.

Blind album, know the artist thanks to their hit. Album was very middleground I'd say. Not so good songs, okay songs, nothing stood out. A lot of the same, like a meal that needed more flavor.

It’s simply ok

Instead of Yeah Yeah Yeahs we should have gotten The Ting Tings

Heads Will roll is an all-time banger zero is pretty darn good too!

a solid album, some songs i would come back too, but overall i wouldn’t say it’s the best of the best. 3.6

Boh, non è malaccio. Ma non c'è nessuna canzone che mi è piaciuta particolarmente. Il remix di "Heads will roll" è molto più bello dell'originale.

I expected to like this more than I did. I kept feeling like I was right on the verge of a payoff and really enjoying it, but never got there. It was fine.

Yeah... I guess Yeah? Says who? Yeah, eggs are expensive

This was fairly groovy. Think "Skeletons" was my favorite.

Good album. I really liked the first track and wish the rest of the album could have been that good. Would have been an easy 4+. Also, what a dumb album title & cover.

Will have to listen again but sounded good in background LISTEN AGAIN

Legendary 1001 albums pull. That's THE meme song. Wow. Incredible. Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance dance til you're dead Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance, dance til you're dead Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance, dance til you're dead Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance, dance til you're dead Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance, dance til you're dead Off, off, off with your head Dance, dance, dance til you're dead

I want to like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs music more, but I don't. There's nothing bad on this album, but it just doesn't do much for me.

Kinda cringe

A nice listen. I think I liked this one better than the other album by the band I've heard.

Better than Coldplay

Fun, energetic indie rock with a little punk thrown in. Enjoyable. - Heard before? Not except for the song "Soft Shock," which I've somehow heard enough to recognize. - Will I listen again? Probably not, it just didn't grab me. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Meh.

Some good songs

heads will roll almost single-handedly saves this album for me. •honorable mentions: zero, dull life, hysteric

Knew a couple of songs. Not bad

Yeah it's solid. I liked it. Nothing spectacular, but it doesn't have to be.

I liked the acoustic versions in the end. Cuteness

Its hits as melancholic - wish I’d listened to more than ‘heads will roll’ when it first came out. It reminds me of the first year of uni in a way that doesn’t feel depressant

Beautiful vocals

Zero: Grand entrance. Didn’t hit my ears in that special way but was fun. Heads Will Roll: Vocals aren’t resonating with me but the instrumental is catching my attention. Soft Shock: We’re getting warmer to genuinely liking a song, but this one isn’t quite there just yet. Nice song though. Skeletons: Chill. Dull Life: no ❤️. Shame and Fortune: eh. Runaway: Ok I’m sat. I like that dramatic sound. Dragon Queen: Twas okay Hysteric: eh Little Shadow: ok

This album is just cool. Plenty of tracks make me want to get up and party. It's like a fun Friday night out at Pyramid from my early years in NYC. Heads Will Roll

2.7 You better believe I'm changing my band's name from The Pretentions to The Meh, Meh, Mehs

yeah yeah yeah

This is one of those “one hit” and the rest is worse but it was an enjoyable experience. Whole album reminded me of the song “maps” and then I was like “OH THAT IS THEM!!!” funny moment and great cover haha

Really fun, energetic album, haven't explored this type of music at all before. Some slower moments of the record but not slow in a way that killed the album's momentum. I definitely prefer the A-side over the B-side, but the continuous blend of electronic and acoustic elements, matched with fantastic production, makes this album stand out. Favorite track: Zero

Catchy songs, nothing I would choose to listen to but I am fine with it playing 2.5 stars

i love

This sort of electronic indie pop-rock is very of its time, but Heads Will Roll has endured as a club classic. I wasn’t familiar with anything else here, but some of the other tracks were good too, proof that the group are more than just a one-hit wonder.

It was slightly better than ok for me.

Didn't realise that they sung head will roll, its the best song on here, the other were ok.

Old Blondie, synth pop Zero Hysteric

Started as a party album, ended as something else entirely. Overall surprised, liked this more than I expected

I have heard of this band but haven't listened. They were pretty good for a genre I don't dabble in a lot

Some fun songs! Heads will roll is a classic lol

Having a full weekend for this was appreciated, but I thought this dragged on at times. Overall, still very enjoyable. 2.5 stars and rounding up.

It was fine, didn't seem to have a point sometimes. Missing Persons vibes amongst a LOT of other things.

I quite liked the album. I wouldn't buy it or go to see them live, but I wouldn't skip the album if it came up in my playlist.

Nah nah nah from me.

Go go yeah yeah

Different and fun

Weird way to make eggs

I was enjoying it until the acoustic versions kicked in. Those made me sleepy, so that knocked it down back to a 3.

yeah yeah yeahs strike again

Head will roll will forever be a banger, A-Trax remix or not. Didn't know any other songs, but liked most of them. The singing gets a bit anoying after a while.

too slow for me but it could grow on me

Alright.

I'm glad we get two different Yeah Yeah Yeahs albums in this collection, and while this one didn't work for me as well as their earlier "Fever to Tell", it's nice to get a somewhat different sound from the trio. The album starts of really strongly with the pair of singles "Zero" and "Heads will roll" (both with fun videos to accompany them), but gets a little bogged down after that with a bit too much synth-sound for my tastes, although "Dull life" picks up the tempo nicely and helps steer the rest of the album in a better overall direction. It's also interesting how involved TV on the Radio was with this album, between producer David Sitek, as well as vocals from Tunde Adebimpe on "Dragon queen". It makes me want to revisit the only Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I actually own but surprisingly have no real memory of listening to ("Show Your Bones").

Kind of ethereal, pretty. But some of the singing is a bit too whispery for my tastes.

Not as good as fever to tell, and it’s not even close

Interesting.

I listen to this before going out for my favorite pastime of attention seeking.

Love the energy, enjoyable album. Heads will roll is great.

Top 3: 1. Dull Life 2. Soft Shock 3. Runaway Least Favourite: Hysteric Good album with catchy songs. Probably wouldn't return to many of the songs, but a few such as "Dull Life" I really enjoyed.

Actually surprisingly ok

Альбом хорош песней Head will deans и zero. Остальное не так зацепило

Good album. It didn’t wow me though.

Makes me want to go out to a club ! Reminds me of all my fun nights out that I’ve had, and the nights out I’ll have this summer !! It’s a great mix of club hits and rock. Fav song is ‘Heads Will Roll’.

Listened to at 5am on my way to work and while life can be better, it's not too bad.

A very energetic album, full of electronic elements. It’s not a genre I usually enjoy, although I have to admit there were some really good songs. I did notice, however, that many of the tracks (at least for my taste) felt a bit overloaded with… everything. At times, I would have appreciated a simpler approach. The singer has a pleasant voice, although it’s not entirely to my liking.

Really nice 3.5/5

smooth and confident, lots of synths. not consistent enough for me for 4 stars.

It’s ok. Nothing memorable, nothing offensive

There are some parts to this album I really enjoyed, but overall it's just another millennial late aughts rock revival album. Good for a night out, I suppose.

Deleted my review halfway through :/ Anyways, I had no idea this band was responsible for some of these songs, big hits. Did not sway me overall, the middle of the album started to drag but then honestly around the time "Dragon Queen" kicked in the album had revitalized. I would say if I could break this down I'd probably be a 3.5/5, but in this case I have to go 3; I'm underrating but its not an album I'll seek out again for all the music here.

Pop stuff. not a fan

Decent electro-pop record. Had me dancing a little bit in my socks. Not sure if this really needed to be added to the list but it’s aight for sure. 3.1/5.0

Kind of a Pretenders ripoff band, I'd say, but sometimes entertaining and mostly harmless.

Gear: Hifiman HE6se v2 SE Artwork: 🥚🫲💥 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🪓😵🙃 Rating: ⚡⚡(⚡)/5

Heads Will Roll obviously ein banger. Der Anfang von Dull Life klingt ein bisschen wie Toxicity. Overall einfach nur ein meh und die meisten Lieder klingen wie die nächste Google Pixel Werbung. Höhepunkt(e): Heads Will Roll Tiefpunkt(e): Shame and Fortune Rating: 5/10

This was a new to me band/Album. Favorite song was Little Shadow. I could see myself checking out their other albums, especially when I need some background music. Nice to listen to while working!

The first two songs were leading me to believe this was going to be an album for the dance-floor, then it went in a direction I wasn't expecting, like some soft rock/stuff. The dance-floor songs did eventually return. It has a nice mix of songs be fair, but I think it would've been a bit better if some dance elements remained for non-EDM songs just so it's a bit more focused. I've heard "Heads Will Roll" a lot of times but never knew the song was by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I knew both of the two separately (albeit the band by name only, not any of their songs.) Well now I do. Highlight Song/s: "Zero"

Kivan kuuloista. Naisvokalisti minimaalistyylinen tulkitsija. Hyvin tuotettua soundia jossa ehkä ajankin mukaisesti mahtipontista joustakin mukana.

Really great! Will listen again to this one!

Well then, I guess the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were just dying to make another appearance on my feed. This is the last of 2 Yeah Yeah Yeahs albums on the list, following 2003’s debut album Fever To Tell, which I rolled last week and mentioned I’d probably forget about just as quickly. Hit the nail on the head with that prediction. I did a re-listen of that album before diving into this one and said a whole lot of “Oh, right, that one”. How did this band evolve 6 years later, and does this one have more of a staying power than Fever To Tell?? Actually, yeah. A little bit, I think it does. First off, love the album art. The visual of seeing a squished egg in someone's hand is the perfect encapsulation for what this album is trying to convey. Second, the hit song on the album "Heads Will Roll" I believe is better and catchier than the hit from their first album, "Maps". Right out of the gate I'm hit with a cool opener in "Zero" which has a killer hook and a catchy rhythm, not to mention Karen and her still incredible voice. In fact, the rhythm's on all of these songs are pretty cool and memorable as a whole, with few exceptions. It's hard to explain, but it just adds to the kind of vibes I enjoy on an album, paired with an amazing singing voice. "Dull Life" is worth talking about as well, and is almost tied for my favorite song on the album. It's probably the song that traditionally rocks the hardest, and it's also the one that sticks out as the most catchy sans "Heads Will Roll". The album loses just a little bit of the magic that the first 5 songs have from this point on, but they're all mostly not skippable, and sound different enough so it's still very easy to listen to all of them and tell them apart from each other. My favorites from the ladder half of the album are "Shame And Fortune" and "Dragon Queen". It all adds up to an album that, while I still really enjoyed, even with a better ensemble of songs, I'm still not likely to remember a lot of in a few days time. However, if I return to it, I can still greatly enjoy it again, so that's cool. This is one of those bands that, since I'm now done with both albums they have on here, I am free to explore their entire discography. And you know what, I did just that, and immediately found the song "Gold Lion", which while not a part of the book, is worth listening to. I might not remember the Yeah Yeah Yeahs going forward the more I crack into this project, but they are a band that I thought had 2 great albums, and worth the inclusion. I came away satisfied listening to both of them. I only wish the songs had JUST a bit more to them. They're pretty close to great, but always leave you wanting just a little something more in the end.

Pretty good naughties indie. Starts really strong before tailing off quite a bit

Nice vocals and some nice ideas, but not a lot of them.

Cool jazzy album. A lot of songs are repetitive so taking a star off.

Fun listen! I didn't keep up with them after Fever To Tell, but I guess I should have.

Not bad but nothing grabbed me and pulled me in. Kind of monotonous 80s redux synth and not much modulation/change/drama.

é um bom álbum, e mais uma descoberta nessa jornada.

Zero, Hysteric and the acoustic variations are the highlights. Some of the rest are all noise no punch.

Starts so strong but then drags on without much change. It gets old quickly.

Pretty sweet. Has songs I will be revisiting 3.5

I remember being disappointed by this at the time because of the singles being so good. I still think Zero and Heads Will Roll are the stand out songs but enjoyed more of this as a whole this time. Skeletons was good!

A couple of songs stood out but overall was good but not amazing

Not for me, it’s absolutely fine but not something I’ll recommend or seek out again

A nice little 00s indie rock album.

It’s ok

Not too bad, not too good.

Again familiar with some of their songs so this album was good listen. Not a big fan of acoustic songs though.

I enjoyed listening to this one. First time for me. I’d put this in the high 3’s. Like 3.8 or 3.9. Some really good riffs.

Alternative mixed with dance pop. Notable tracks include Zero, Soft Shock, Skeletons, Hysteric, Little Shadow. Overall a good album, every song is pretty good.

Nah nah nah

2/3 bangers 3.5

coffee shop music

Ni fu ni fa

3.5. Their best

I like the beginning tracks, but it gets samey and there doesn't really seem to be that much depth (which i know it's not the point but it gets a little annoying). I also just don't really connect with this style of super poppy, upbeat music. I also feel like the band could make songs that are a lot better than these. But despite, all that, I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Lots of fun energy. 7/10

Amazing

Had previous exposure to this artist and notably the first two songs off this album, so I felt the opening was strong/took me right back. From there I continued to appreciate the lead singers unique sound but couldn’t say any other songs really stood out to me for the remainder of the album.

Started off incredibly strong. I love Karen Os voice and the heavy guitar. I feel like during the second half of the album, I got a little bored even though the songs were good. I just thought some of the songs were forgettable.

Yllätyin positiivisesti ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heads will roll...good tune. Interesting album.

heads will roll is an all time classic but really only the dance till you're dead version on that one dark souls animation. rest of the album's a very different vibe; fine, not remarkable.

I don't have a ton to say about this album. But there were definitely some fun songs

This album peaks at song 2, Heads will Roll in my opinion is such an outlier on this album. No other song even comes close to matching the energy of this song. The rest wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. Unfortunately one thing that's become clear over the course of this journey thus far is that a single song can't carry an album. Zero, Dull Life, and Hysteric managed to buff things up a bit, but overall weren't enough to even things out across the track list. It kind felt like they weren't fully committing to either high energy or really low energy sad vibes. Just like a lukewarm level somewhere in the middle, which led to an ambiguous tone within each song. 7/10 (Heads will Roll gives a full extra point)

thought i never heard of them until the second song. if i was a British teenager listening to this when this came out i wouldv'e felt the coolest person ever. but im not. first three songs were nice. might listen again.

Nice but not my kind of music.

Not the same level as their debut, but a well put together album

I quite liked it, great melodies and production. Wish I could give 3 and a half stars but 3 stars it is.

Heads will roll is the highlight

First time listening to this album ! I think I need to do their discography. Nick Launay, the producer, did an amazing job. Homogeneous, punchy. I need to listen to it again and review properly.

Yeah I mean duh I was in my second year of college when this came out so it’s like it’s fucking written with sharpie on the surface of my brain. Do I love it? I sure don’t. Will it be played at my funeral of course it will but not because I chose it. No, because the sonic waves will still be traveling through my dead veins when they empty my body of fluids during the embalming process and will echo for weeks through the funeral home. This album got me through a very important time of weekly rediscovery as I learned how to drink wrong and party wrong and live wrong and dress wrong and eat wrong and love wrong and talk wrong and be wrong. It’s so important yet so far from what I want anymore. It reminds me of my most confused and pathetic self. And at the same time it was somehow my first taste for guilty nostalgia. My Fever to Tell cd was scratched and cracked from being played so much by the time I left for college so this release was the perfect chance to grasp at some pale reflection of a culturally ambitious version of myself, ripe with individuality and pubescent-cusping autonomy. I will never listen to this album again because I don’t need to. It’s buried. It’s done. I’ve moved on. We’ve all moved on. Let’s just let it die in peace and with only as much respect as it mathematically deserves. Except for Zero. That track will live forever.

pretty nice album, "Zero" is an obvious banger here, so is "Heads Will Roll" , i also liked "Dull Life" and "Shame & Fortune"

3- Stars (7/15)

Different enough to be initially interesting but not to the degree that I'll ever actively attempt to listen to it again.

objectively good not my favorite

not offensive but nothing memorable in any way

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were such a big deal when I was younger, and I remember really liking this album back then, but time has not been kind to it. There’s still a few standouts on here, but the majority of the album sounds quite boring and dated now.

It was a nice listen, got cardigans vibes

Music from a simpler time

Preferred the acoustic tracks. Heads will Roll and Little Shadow were my tracks.

I thought I was familiar with the yeah yeah yeahs, but after hearing this I don’t think I was. I am now. An enjoyable diversion in the form a girl-fronted indie guitar music. Setting the world alight? No. Rushing back to listen again? No. Happy to pay attention next time the name is mentioned? Sure.

Cool to check out, three songs are nice, later songs are weaker, poor choice of the violinist. As an album it gets 2/10, but for the interesting music I didn't know it gets the 6/10.

Solid indie, great female lead!

Didn't blow me away but enough oomph to enjoy it

Basically the sound of the summer 2009, which was only 5 years ago...right?

A weird one this. I’ve listened to this 3 times over the last 4 days. Never a complete runthrough as I always get disturbed. I’ll be driving and reach my destination. I’ll be heading for bed and fall asleep. I’ll be listening whilst working and then work concentration takes over.
And then I can never tell how far into the album I’ve got and I either start again or guess. I know I’ve listened to these songs more than once as I can vaguely recall each one. Vaguely. But I can’t tell you anything about the songs except that they were ok and if this was the only album available I’d happily listen. Not the most ringing endorsement. I'd sooner chose something else. But I'd listen again. Kinda beige then. And the band name sucks.

It was alright

Not my jam. Not terrible. Enjoyed the listen. However most of it rides the same pocket for the entirety of the album. Wouldn’t choose to put it on again, but probably wouldn’t change if a few songs came up on random.

Not my favorite Kate Bush Album

Love Head Will Roll, lukewarm on the rest

I had overlooked It’s Blitz after being a little disappointed by their 2nd album. Listening today though I realised my error as it revealed to me far more quality than the amazing singles I was familiar with. There’s plenty of great music on display, but it’s the vocal melodies, hooks and delivery that dominate the headlines for the majority of tracks. Probably deserves 3.5 but yesterday, I gave another NYC album, Daydream Nation a 4 when it was really a 4.5, so it’s only fair to round down here too.

Couple good ones, seems forgettable

It's OK 2.7

Like it 3/5

I dunno. I really like Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I loved Fever to Tell, and played the absolute shit out of Show Your Bones. Maps, Gold Lion, Mysteries, Date With The Night, Cheated Hearts... stellar stuff. Raw, punky, melodic with Karen O taking on an early PJ Harvey persona as the frontperson. But this is a very different Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They got a lot of acclaim for moving in this more synthy direction, but to me it felt like they'd watered down the sound that made them so good in the first place. The rawness was replaced with polish, and it felt a lot more poppy than punk. Case and point: the acoustic version of Soft Shock on the extended version of the album is INFINITELY better than the synthy version on the main album. I can't listen to Heads Will Roll at all without cringing. I'm being a bit harsh here, because there's some great songwriting present across the album. I mean, it's still Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Shout out to Skeletons in particular being a great song. But I feel this would have been a much better album if they'd dropped the synth.

There is absolutely room for a Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, I'm just not sure that this is the one. It starts off with two hit bangers including their biggest hit "Heads Will Roll," but the rest of the album falls rather flat. Influence 2. Quality 4. Hits 4. Intangibles 2. Not my favorite album, but I doubt there's room for two on the list 3.

It felt easy to listen

dull life was the best song, overall the album is okay. Also yeah yeah yeahs is a dumb band name.

Favourites: Heads Will Roll Skeletons Hysteric

An interesting mix of punk, synthpop, dream pop and modern indie rock with some original ideas and a convincing lead singer. On paper I should love it ; in reality, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. There's just something slightly off, something I can't explain but that bothers me in some of the songs (especially towards the end). Maybe it's just not punky enough for me ; maybe it's a bit too radio-friendly, a bit too dance-oriented... Some of the loops and synth lines show real inspiration, though. It was good for a casual listen, and I salute the effort. But I'm not sure I'll come back to it. 5/10

Another perfect example of how clueless I was about the 2000s. Sure, I had seen this band’s name around before, but my total lack of enthusiasm for the whole early 2000s rock scene kept me from even giving them a try. I listened to this album and their debut, and I’ve gotta admit that I really like it. They’ve got a really nice pop / punk balance going on. Super easy to listen to, very accessible, but way more subtle and well-written than it seems at first. Great vocals, some occasional synthetic rhythms that add this melancholic vibe, and the singer can totally lose it … and that’s just cool. Discovering that David Sitek from TV on the Radio (which I love) is involved is not surprising considering their sound on this album. I’m definitely coming back to this, as a kind of guilty pleasure.

I have seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs several times at various WA state fests (Sasquatch, Bumbershoot, or maybe Thing, they all kind of blend together tbh). And the YYYs do the same...I don't specifically remember hearing them, but I know I know I was there when they performed: just great fest music that doesn't feel as immersive on any medium. Which is to say, that I'd bob my head in a live venue, but feel this is just meh. It's not too bad but it's not great either. MOR 3 stars....

I remember when this came out and the NME was all like "ooooh look, New York indie band the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs are going for the big time, they wanna be famous how do you feel about that? We're not saying we have a problem with it we just wondered if you might" and the only thing backing this up was the concentration of synthesisers on the album. Considering that the two lead singles became instant classics you could say that the YYYs did make the big time. This album certainly cemented their status as one of the preeminent American indie bands of the era and their place in the 2000s NY canon with the Strokes and LCD. But I'm not sure this album stands up alongside the classic works of their contemporarys. It's got lots of the key ingredients. Indie disco staples, iconic off-white album cover and a front person who's magnetism comes as much from their aloofness as their energy. But the lower energy moments on this album don't counterpoint the highs for me.

Innovative. First two songs were great. Everything after that was interesting

meh for me mostly except for heads will roll. liked the acoustic at the end too

Honestly expected more from this although it was pretty unoffensive. Cool that it released on my 11th birthday though.

I liked this one

I knew and liked Yeah Yeah Yeahs from Fever to Tell. This album didn’t stand up to that one, though. The only real standout was Dragon Queen, and that didn’t reach the same peaks. Overall good but not spectacular

I think it's a solid album, but I guess I'm just not a mood for rock. I wasn't paying attention very well while I was listening to it because I was working on homework.

What a solid album! It's a good one to just throw on and start grooving.

Wasn't expecting much, I knew the two singles but actually enjoyed the album as a whole. The sound is somewhat dated but it's executed well, the songs are catchy while still being heavy, although I could have done without the acoustic versions at the end. Not sure if that was on the original release, but I thinks it's a flat 3 regardless.

Not for me. Couldn’t listen to it all.

I was aware of this band but didn’t really pay any attention at the time. To be fair this ain’t half bad! A bit heavier musically than I would of thought which is a good thing! I’ve always thought 3 piece bands make more noise!

top heavy imo. cool

È un po' poco ispirato per quanto riguarda testi e arrangiamenti, nel complesso in realtà penso sia parecchio banale a tratti, ma la voce della frontwoman mi piace molto

Quit poppy, but enjoyed it

Some good tunes. I like skeletons, soft shock, zeros. Kinda feels like it might just be a top 1000 album for heads will roll though

i knew one song from it but overall not my thing, boring, flat

It really peaks with those first two songs, but it’s not bad overall

YYY's dropped off massively for me as Fever to Tell was a real favourite, whilst it's follow up A side was dreadful (somehow it's B side was pretty good!). I therefore didn't bother with this 3rd album but upon listening to it now I was obviously heavily exposed to Zero and Heads Will Roll by radio (6music in UK). This album is definitely better than Show Your Bones but still lacks the energy and audacity of their debut. This time however it's front loaded and whilst the rest is decent enough it touches on pleasant which is not something I come to their door for.

A really good album.

Best Song: Heads Will Roll. Really slick, ethereal feeling. I with the rest of the album had leaned as hard into the pseudo-electronic aesthetic as this song did. Worst Song: Shame & Fortune. Felt like very cookie-cutter rock, wherein they felt like the guitar hook was a lot catchier than it really was. Overall: A delightful pop-rock album. Many of the songs sounds similar enough that it starts to sound a bit monotonous, but that monotony isn't terrible in this case. Generic in a good way.

Vocals are a standout for sure, interesting production. Solid record but nothing that was super memorable to me

Meh. Just another female fronted rock band. Nothing stood out, nothing special. Just more blah, boring music.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I've listened to them before, but not this album. I will come back to it, and will check out their other albums.

This album marks a clear shift for the band, trading their scrappy garage rock edge for a sleeker, synth-driven sound. The production is glossy and layered, giving everything a smooth, pulsating rhythm that feels made for late nights. It’s got a sense of urgency, but it’s a controlled urgency, less chaotic than their earlier work and more about atmosphere and mood. Tracks like “Zero” and “Heads Will Roll” carry the record with their sharp hooks and driving energy, standing out as the most memorable moments. The slower songs, like “Skeletons” and “Hysteric,” bring a more emotional weight, though they don’t always hit quite as hard. The band’s willingness to reinvent their sound is admirable, even if not every experiment fully lands. It’s Blitz! is a solid, stylish album that shows a band pushing into new territory. It might lack some of the raw spark of their earlier records, but it makes up for it with a sleek confidence that fits them surprisingly well. It’s not a perfect reinvention, but it’s an interesting one.

мимо

Always love to start my day with a record I've never listened to before, and here we go! The start is great, somehow the Yeah Yeah Yeahs took a different direction, 'cause the last time I listened to one of their albums, I think it was their debut "Fever to Tell", they were all into raw, guitar-driven indie rock. How different this is, the first three songs are true bangers, up-tempo synth/disco pop, with a special nod to "Zero", great start of a record. It takes another turn with "Skeletons" still electronic, and synth dominated but with a Celtic twist, pretty odd for a band from NY. By the time we arrive at "Dull Life" and the rest of the album, there are guitars, but the "surprise effect" is now dampened by some more mediocre songs. "It's a Dull Life" sounds far from original, and "Runaway" is a very poor attempt to an indie ballad, which seems to last forever. Luckily, the album picks up again with the bit cheesy but funky disco track "Dragon Queen" and "Hysteric", where they try to blend their new sound with the old. Last but not least, "Little Shadow" is a beautifully crafted ballad that resembles, in a far distance, Mazzy Star. I would say 3.5/5, but we can't, so due to the unevenness of this record, 3/5

finally, human music, not 70s granpa soul rock. first album on here I listened to all the way through. it's quite ok.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are always fun to listen to. I've heard this album before and it has it's gems and it's fillers. Overall a good listen.

With this album, Yeah Yeah Yeahs went for a pop feel. "Zero", "Heads Will Roll", and "Skeletons" are solid tracks, but some songs are a little too smoothed out for me. I would rather have listened to the "punk-ness" that marks other Yeah Yeah Yeahs offerings.

Heads will roll album dnf

Some classic tracks here, but nothing too special. Glad to have 'Heads will roll' back in my head, but overall this is way too polished, especially compared to early work. Enjoyable but a bit forgettable.

Yuuu erfrüschend aber doch nöd ganz min sound. Aber na bar cooli female rock tracks mit indie ihflüss. Für es 3 setti das lange.

I prefer earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I have nothing to compare it with but thought it was ok....nothing outstanding but worth a listen.

5/10. solid album, just not my style.

Heads Will Roll hitazo. me gusta el album, no se si es mi genero fav pero me gusta q es consistente pero no repetitivo a re. mi voto es secreto...

Interesting sound. Quite unique… but not my thing.

I think this was better than the last Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I had but I’m still unsure if they deserve a place on this list. I liked this more and it had a cool alt, poppy, synthy vibe and I reiterate that the lead singer has an incredible voice. Overall, it’s still a fairly average album.

Don't you just hate it when a group has an amazing sound and style for the first song of an album and then immediately do nothing else like it for the rest of the album? If not, this might just be your favourite album.

It's fine.

I've already listened to his album (19). It's not Fever to Tell.

The number of albums from the post-millennium that I feel worthy of inclusion are very limited. I would add this album to the list not for its exceptionality but for its generalized interpretation of what the first decade was truly like from a music perspective. 3/5

I prefer first album a bit. This feels transitional

fun, will probably revisit a few of the songs, but a little boring at parts

3 1/2 Stars: What a killer one-two punch with those opening tracks. Zero and Heads Will Roll are absolute, bounce on the dancefloor bangers. Sadly, the rest of the album never reaches those same heights. The audio equivalent of blowing your load early.

Good; kinda chill.

6/10 Favorite: Heads Will Roll

Decent.

I enjoyed this! Upbeat, good bangers, won't necessarily revisit many of these tracks. 3.5

It's nice.

It was fine. I liked it better than later Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs. I knew the song Heads Will Roll. I’ve never been a big fan of this band.

poppy, punky, sometimes synthy. Some higher energy tracks, some slower tracks. not too bad

Enjoyed this. Really a 3.5 for me

Maybe Maybe Maybe

Mere festliigt end jeg havde forventet.

Didn't know that that meme song was Heads Will Roll from this album, sped up Pretty okay album, nice to listen to, but I'm not craving more of it

Best Track - "Heads Will Roll"

I really like this band but this album just doesn’t do it for me.

I was to harsh last time, but I still don’t love the singing

Not heard this before, and enjoyed it, though it was mostly background while I was working. Played it through a few times and the first 2 tracks are the stand-outs, the rest blends in a bit. Perhaps because I was writing, so not fully focused on the music. The acoustic versions on Spotify were a nice bonus, though, and I think I preferred them.

A fun electronic/rock/alternative album. Not the greatest thing I've ever heard but I definitely could have gotten something WAY worse on a Monday. It also made me realize the version of "Heads Will Roll" I'm the most familiar with is a remix

Another one I haven't listened to in awhile, but still holds up. It's kind of bland in spots, so a 3/5.

Given how obsessed I was with indie rock in the 2000s, it’s strange that I never really gave much mind to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This would have been a teenage favorite album if I had found it when it was released. It has the same disco infusion of the Killers’ Day and Age, and Heads Will Roll and Zero are magnificent tracks. All that said, I just don’t see myself coming back to this. Indie rock is a time capsule to me now, tinged with nostalgia. I go back to feel the old feels, but there’s no appetite for new additions to the collection.

This album starts so strong with Zero and Heads Will Roll that anything that came afterwards paled in comparison. However I do like that they went into another direction. Dull Fortune is another highlight of the album. *Shatters egg*

fun album

Started out fun…..then got kinda boring.

It was ok

Buen sonido aunque un poco genérico.

The bad vocals really let down what could have been a great album. I liked the instrumentals quite a bit which made me give this 3-stars.

Gonna get on a little high horse real quick, sorry. Not a bad album at all. Well written, mostly enjoyable, will explain more. Why do we get two yeah yeah yeahs albums on this list? Fever to Tell is stronger, I get that one. But like if you are making direct comparisons, this over a second Strokes album, specifically Room on Fire but also New Abnormal? I just do not understand the ranking procedures of this list. While I'm at it, I know this is not same genre, but for the love of God give me Riot! or Black Parade or the self titled Blink album over this please. I don't get why any rock post 2000 has to be music that falls under the indie/garage rock moniker or like "the members met while studying at Juilliard/NYU/Oberlin" just give me some pop punk or like some alternative rock idk the list feels very weak in that regard. How you gonna have two arcade fire albums and not the american football record, they should be dork math music enough for Dimmery. It's impossible to please everyone but come on. Rant done. I think it's silly that the most popular song off this album is heads will roll simply because of that remix. That is a huge case of TikTok popularity before tiktok of course, but the bite sized "this song sounds great! I want to hear more, oh that was the only good part of the song." I liked soft shock and skeletons and I'm pretty "that was pretty good but whatever" to the rest of it. I can see being a huge fan of Fever to Tell prior and loving the yeah yeah yeahs and then loving this as a later follow up but I don't have that.

Oh this is fun! In these semi private rants I often complain about 90s indie rock/trip hop, because of its over-the-top depressing mood. Here we have the revamped 2000s, that inherited from the good (yet sad) 90s and added fun. And this one shows that flavour, mixing pop/"punk" (of course it has nothing to do with punk but you get the point?) with dance, some slow songs, etc. In some parts it reminded me of the Cardigans, but the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are not as good as them, as this album gets a bit boring after the first 3-4 songs. TL;DR Fun album, starts super good but fail to keep the quality during the duration of the record.

What I remember most about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was they were the kind of urban hipster trash coming out of NYC that my best friend in high school liked, along with bands like the Strokes. I didn’t like any of those bands, I was too busy listening to NOFX and Rancid, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a girl singer. Big pass. I wasn’t even into Distillers then because Brody left Tim. Good times indeed. Fast forward about 20 years and the dulcet sounds of ¨Zero¨ burst through my headphones, sounding like an American, female-fronted Bloc Party. I guess cool kids mix electronic into their dancey rock and or roll, like putting ecstasy in their cocaine. This is something 18 year old me would hate and 38 old me pretends to like to feel cultured. Like Bloc Party (and a bit the Weeknd), the Yeah Yeah Yeahs give the feeling of having taken too much cocaine and trying desperately to either feel high enough to enjoy it or come back down to earth and be at least half a person. It’s soulless music for soulless people, but that doesn’t make it bad. Even Bowie had his Thin White Duke phase. It's all there: the beats, the guitars, the hooks. It’s sexy music but I do wonder how sexy it sounds the second time. Best songs: ¨Zero,¨ ¨Skeletons¨ ¨Little Shadow¨

Some great songs again the beginning but then faded into background noise for me. Could see myself liking it more on a second listen but don't feel overly compelled to give it one

Definition of a 3

Some really good songs overall not for me
