Quite a few song tracks (21) for only 36 minutes of music, so some of these are quite short. A few seemed to end quite abruptly. But the music was really a lot of fun. They relied heavily on heavy distorted chords with full rich voicing. They turn those into driving rhythmic riffs that really make you bang your head. Fun songs and fun album.
Once again I thought this was an interesting album but it wasn’t anything special. The voice wasn’t spectacular: at times it was whiny and eh but the music was pretty good.
From someone who does not "like" punk rock... I've always liked this. Not as frenetically chaotic as many punk bands - this is more melodic than most (I'm not a fan of the most aggressive songs (e.g. Surgeon's Girl) but then again, they're over in usually less than 2 minutes :D...). At its best it's good British rock and I feel like it seems to have more in common with some Britpop than I'd realized. Not for everyday consumption but who doesn't want to occasionally slam dance around the living room and terrorize the family. 21 songs in 36 minutes. It's an aggressive but fun trip. 6/10 3 stars.

Simplistic punk rock instrumentals that aren't mindblowing in any way accompanied by almost incomprehensible singing which I usually don't mind. New Bomb Turks cover of Mr. Suit is better than the original. It's overall mediocre and I give it 2,5/5 stars.
Sure, it's groundbreaking, but none of the songs really stand out.
Every song is a short blast of fizzing energy. I’m sad that I hadn’t actually heard of them before, because obviously they spawned so many offshoots. They are dynamic and fun and never outstay their welcome. Love Three Girl Rhumba.

Notes - Ive tried to listen to this album before and it didn’t hit for me - British post punk band’s debut album - Reminds me a bit of pixies at times - Out of 21 songs, there’s about 7 or 8 that really worked for me and the rest kinda blurred together - The guitar tones are cool, the vocals are really compelling, the bass is mostly inaudible, and the drumming is weak - None of it was bad enough to be offensive but I also wasn’t huge on it Fav - Lowdown Least fav - Start to move 3/5
Many of the songs were pretty short. Definitely punk feeling, seemed fairly instrument-focused with some vocals thrown in. Didn't take themselves too seriously, the vocals were sometimes pretty goofy

Quick and punchy. I couldn't understand a word but the singing is exactly what I envision when I think of late 70s/80s English punk.
HL: “Mannequin”, “Strange”, “Ex-Lion Tamer” Think I’m leaning closer to 3 stars than 2. I suspect in this list there will be a few more punk/postpunk LPs from the late 70s/early 80s that I am simply ambivalent over. At times it sounds like an album from the 90s, which certainly highlights their influence on later alt-rock bands. And there are just enough enjoyable songs to make the “1234!DuDuDuDu” song fragments worth sitting through.

Loved the fact that none of the songs overstayed their welcome - made this a very easy listen. Lots of catchy Melodie’s. Great drum work and awesome vocals.
I am having a hard time understanding the hype concerning this one. There are great bursts of energy and some catchy riffs along the way ('Pink Flag', 'Straight Line', 'Mannequin' and '12 X U' stand out), and Wire were of course completely ahead of their time when they released this in 1977. But the end product does not move me (neither emotional nor body-wise) and any innovations have long time since been thoroughly incorporated in contemporary punk and post-punk. Cool tunes though.

A solid collection of punk standards and a blueprint in to see how they became into the post-punk cult heroes they still are.
This was a really pleasant surprise. Opening track wonderful! I'm hearing (either influence / influenced) Lou Reed, Pixies, Arctic Monkeys, Elastica and much more I can't quite pinpoint.
3.5 Stars. Pretty impressive for 1977 - It's not my interest, but i feel like I can hear the influence for the later post-punk acts like Joy Division. I may consider listening again

Many very short songs, 2 min and shorter. Feels like brief, disconnected thoughts. As far as I know; I couldn’t understand much of the lyrics. Some catchy, some punk thrash.
I get this is probably genre defining and can see the influences its had...but I didn't love it
It certainly has some moments of brilliance, but it feels at moments more like a demo album with song ideas than complete songs.

Never heard of Wire, but I liked this album. It seems to have spawned half a dozen different musical sub-genres in one go, and it moves between them at pace. I've got a lot of time for bands who keep the songs to under 90 seconds. Literally.
I have no idea what they're saying; this is my kind of rock. Although now this feels more like punk. To be honest, I didn't know when punk started, but in or around 1977 would not have been my guess.
Loud simple music with a bit of a nerdy edge to it. Makes me think of something like The Ramones mixed with Talking Heads.

It was a solid album, nothing really stood out to me as particularly special, but I did enjoy it.
Another album — another band! — I've never even heard of. Definitely a cool feature of this adventure. Punk was never a genre I particularly connected with, Siouxsie and the Banchees and a couple of others were exceptions, and for a minute, I heard a similarity with Siouxsie and Wire. That didn't exactly last, and I won't consider this a band I've fallen in love with, but they were cool and did this right — short songs, no bullshit, bing, bang boom. I did recognize "Strange," though it took a quick Internet search to realize that's because R.E.M. covered the tune on Document. Funny how those lyrics triggered that "I know this from somewhere" switch in my brain. And what the fuck did we do before the Internet? I was there, but what did we do? Just go crazy trying to remember things we couldn't look up in 12 seconds? I would not have put the R.E.M. connection together. So... a 2? A 3? I don't see me going back to this album or this band a whole lot, but maybe. I'm going with a 3. Right down the middle.
I like that the album is energetic, and I can hear how this album has influenced some modern artists. However, some of the songs seem to blend together and can be boring at some points. Favorite song: Mannequin.
I don't have much to say. I enjoyed it in the background. Was anything singable? I don't know... hm There were some songs that had sounds that were beyond the guitar, drums and vocal... I was actually turning my head to see where these sounds were coming from quite frequently.

Interesting to hear a massive riff elastics used. Other than that made no real impression I’m afraid, other than to not disappoint.

Not a band I'm familiar with nor a genre I listen to much but quite enjoyed this album. Each song was short, fun and set themselves apart from the others - a really easy listen and short enough that despite not being a Punk fan, I still enjoyed the album.
This was actually pretty enjoyable. Will I listen to it again? Probably not, given the sheer amount of actually great music out there, but maybe?
I wrote in another review that a lot of British punk bands sound like they're soullessly checking off a list to ensure they meet all the qualifications of punk, and this is one of those bands. It sounds like they clocked in at 10, drudged their way through a tedious task, and got home by 3. And then maybe they took a nap. It's not bad, it's just...boring. Best track: Mannequin

Old note by now but my main objection here is the English punk/post-punk vocal style. Understood about one word in ten and the attitude is just boring. Maybe it was super rebellious when it was new, maybe annoying middle class, middle age dudes is the whole point. I liked the music pretty well. When I heard REM’s version of Strange I had no idea it was a cover.

Seminal lo-fi punk album. Has some genius moments but over 21 mostly 2 minutes songs it just feels too disjointed for me to really enjoy.

2/8/2022 Today's Album: "Pink Flag" by Wire - This album is 35 minutes of 21 fairly short songs, with many running just over a minute. This UK band plays punchy punk-garage rock that goes well with the format of the album, since the tunes they are playing are usually quite abrasive, making their short runtime a warm welcome. In the longer songs, the band takes a step back to work on stronger melodies, but they still come across as a chugging, angry, and punky melodies that do tend to grate on my ears after a while. The lyrics get drowned out in the mix fairly often and anytime the band actually tried for a subtler approach, it is often cut short in favor of more yelling and chugging guitars and drums. I think it's a good album if you like punk influence and want to listen to some upbeat and quick tunes, but it really isn't something I'd like to come back to. The style is obviously fairly new at the time of release (1977) so there is a lot of innovation to appreciate, but in this day in age if you have ever heard a punk band, you've heard this one and it just feels played out when they aren't doing something different with it. With that being said, the music is well performed and never feels amateurish or sloppy despite how messy the genre usually is. Score: 5.5 Some good moments but overall not my thing Highlights: Reuters, Lowdown, The Commercial, Fragile, Mannequin, Feeling Called Love,
This was a fun punk listen.
p381, 1977. 3 stars Proto punk, surprisingly OK, not as raw as The Clash or Sex Pistols but suitably angry. Decent songs and playing. As with a lot of punk, you have to be in the right mood for it, and if you are then this is above average.
All over the place. From certified bangers™, to weird 30-second gibberish that can hardly be classified as music. Really not sure about this one - I thought I would enjoy it more than I did.

It's was very punk
Not really listened to this one before and really enjoyed it. Early punk vibes.
I have heard of these folks, but I have not really liked the albums I have heard. This was a step up from the albums I have heard, fortunately. This punk album was okay, but every song was under 2 minutes with no bridge or chorus. The songs seemed very underdeveloped. Don't get me wrong, songs don't have to be long to be good. But these just seemed like germs of ideas, as if they had a riff but nothing else. The Clash had riffs. And they turned them into songs. There were verses and bridges and all the things a song needs to have, and some of them were pretty short, too. These just seem like... half-baked ideas.
Not bad. But it's a bit too frenetic with all the songs that are 1min or less (21 songs in 35min). Hard to get into anything or appreciate where their skills lie. Ex Lion Tamer and Reuters had a good sound. Mannequin was alright (seems to be their most notable song). Sounds like Elastica ripped off the main riff from Three Girl Rhumba for their song Connection (I like that riff). Champs and 12 x U had some good energy. Pink Flag sounded about a decade ahead of its time with its rough edge, yet needs more work. So again, not bad, but uneven.

I like it when music that falls generally somewhere in the very broad "punk" category has some groove to it, and this band brings it nicely. I appreciate punk mostly for its cultural significance and influence on other genres of music, but I don't listen to a lot of it because it's often just too harsh for me. (Related to the same part of my DNA that likes spicy food on the medium, not hot, scale? I have no idea.) Some songs are little screechy for me, but overall, I like this album. I had not heard of the band or heard any of their music, but, wow, I can absolutely hear how their sound influenced a lot bands to follow. For example, I read in the Wikipedia entry (the one on the band itself, not this album) that The Feelies, one of my favorite bands (man, I just love 'The Good Earth' and still listen to it), regularly cover one of their songs in live shows. I hear the similarities. So cool. So, Yes, I like this album and some of the tracks really stuck out for me, like "Reuters," "Ex Lion Tamer," and "Mannequin." "Fragile" might be my favorite. And the brief track, "The Commercial," is really fun.

34. Pink Flag - Wire 21 tracks. I say 21 tracks, but 6 of them are under 1 min long so the whole album is still only 35 mins and it works by keeping you interested & engaged with no time to be bored and switch off. Decent. 3/5

Albums like this remind me how harsh the music business can be. These guys have a decent sound and easily piqued my interest. They are not following a neat and tidy roadmap that was set out for them. The album was released in 1977 so the roadmap wasn't yet written. Sure they're not in the same league as Talking Heads, The Clash, et al but they should have sold a few more albums and I should have at least heard of them. Tough business.
It was hard to get a good listen because my co- judge kept turning the stereo off whenever I put it on. I know that they were influential and quite revered at CKCU in the 80s. I think that thrashy fast numbers would have been predecessors to American punk like Black Flag, which I despise, and then the more melodic (longer like more than 90 second) numbers may have influenced bands like XTC. But they didn’t seem to me much of an influence on themselves. They took a real left turn on the LP after this one and actually hired a cover band to open for them and play songs from this album!

New band and new music for me. I'm curious as to where this album fits with punk and the rest of the music scene at the time of it's release. There wasn't anything that stood out in particular to me, good or bad. With some of the tracks being so short, I may need to listen again just to make sure I heard everything.
“Pink Flag” by Wire (1977) If music can be compared to a meal, this album provides a 21-course repast, spicy and varied, inviting and adventurous. Of mixed quality, yet in small servings, these dishes are paced rapidly enough to sustain interest. Twenty one underdeveloped songs in thirty five minutes. Whew. Now I need to breathe deeply and maybe smoke a cigar or take a walk. There is an interesting lyrical preoccupation with numbers, perhaps giving meaning to the title track, “Pink Flag”, asking “how many dead or alive?”. Since this track and “Strange” are the longest tracks on the album, one suspects that there is an anxious expression of concern about what the hell is going on in this most lethal century in human history. It’s an attractive anxiety. Melodies are minimalist or lacking altogether. The chief musical aim seems to be the display of a dizzying variety of rhythm guitar sonic textures and grooves, with a heavy use of effects. Lyrics, vocals, and rhythm section are all relegated to a secondary, supportive function. Punk vocal stylings are, well, punk. And not good punk at that. This ain’t Henry Rollins. But this album is definitely worth a listen or two, if only to experience some of the entrancing things that can be done with simple barre chords on an electric guitar, even without a high level of physical dexterity. 3/5

Pink flag is definitely a cool album. It’s definitely groundbreaking, ahead of its time and tight. I just got a bit bored with a lot of its songs.
Mostly forgettable, with a few bright spots. But not enough to make it worth repeated listening.
songs are short but sweet with frequent changes in pace. album has more tracks than you'd typically see from the 70s and 80s. songs themselves aren't very unique, pretty typical for underground punk rock. got a little bored around the 10th song.
Usually don’t like punk at all really, but this album was a more subtle punk ting so I didn’t hate it. I might be wrong but wasn’t 1977 really early for punk? Maybe this album inspired/paved the way for punk? Maybe a 2.5 star for me cus I’d be more likely to put the previous Hendrix album on instead of this but it’s pretty good as far as punk goes tbh
I listened to the album but cant remember listening to it. Every song sounded the same (which wasnt a bad thing) I dont think its a bad album by any means, but definitely not one that ill remember by next week
I've never heard an album like this with many short songs one after the other. I had this on in the background while doing some chores and it passed me by without catching my attention in a negative or a positive way.

Really liked this, bet they were a good live band. Once again, listening to it now, I get the feeling it's impact at the time is difficult to comprehend. Wire also strike me as one of those bands whose influence is greater than their own success. It sounds to me like they influenced a lot of the 90s US punk bands I like.
Really enjoyed it. First time I’ve listened to them, and was interesting to notice the influences it’s brought to other artists over the years. Weird vibes at the end, almost went a bit chronicles of Nirvana. Overall 7/10

Después de leer un poco sobre ellos y sobre el disco entiendo el que esté en la lista, se oye agradable y se entiende la influencia que pudo tener en mucha música posterior. De hecho al escucharlo de inicio me sonaba como si fuera punk ochenterón y me llamó un poco la atención ver que era del 77, continuando mi temática de "bandas que eran mucho mejores musicalmente que los pistols y menos conocidas;" como en el 80% de estos casos las letras simplemente cumplen su chamba para el género, nada que llame particularmente mi atención. No se si es un disco que fuera a poner en rotación, creo que aunque me agradó mucho y tiene una duración muy correcta ya hay mucho mucho punk como para seguir añadiendo. Muy bien hecho, entiendo su importancia, no me dejó boquiabierto pero me agradó mucho conocer algo nuevo que valga la pena. Terminé escuchándolo tres veces, cada una agradándome ligeramente más que la anterior; algo bueno debe decir eso.

Not really feeling this one. Most of the songs weren't interesting enough due to being too short, and the ones that were interesting obviously ended too soon. Just ended up annoying me really.
Usually I like Punk, but this was somehow off form me. First of all I don't like the singer, the production sounds muffled, the songs don't stick. Meh.
Samey with too-short tracks. I couldn't understand the lead singer at all and I don't really like Colin Newman's style of singing on this, either, it's kind of annoying. The instrumentals are just okay punk rock, nothing more. Favorite Track: Reuters
More british punk or post punk or whatever. Maybe if this album had been giving to me in the first 10 in this category id have more patience for poor vocals and basic musicianship. But it didnt. So I dont. Mannequin was OK.

Punk, leaning toward post-punk a lot of the time, where half of the songs are so short you can't remember them, appreciate them, get into them, or give a fuck about them. I can appreciate that this is probably a good showing of punk, and maybe even a somewhat seminal album, but today I'm just not feeling it. Sorry. Hmmm. Not as annoying or grating as I find a lot of punk/post punk. At one point, I thought, I can hear how The Police were influenced by this, but then I looked and the album had ended and a Gang of Four track was playing.

Art house idea of punk fast furious dated.
Couldn't really get into it. So many of the songs feel like sketches. I can appreciate the vibe and see how it influenced the likes of Elastica and 80s post punk, but i've no real desire to go back. Probably a 3, but i've just given several of those, and this isn't as good, so 2.
Over the years I've given this record several spins and it still makes very little impression on me. Oi oi post punk that might be good enough to do a bit of argy bargy in a pub gig but nothing particularly grabs me.
It's really just a bunch of British nonsense. The songwriting is pretty vanilla and uncreative. Almost every track isn't even a minute long, so there's nothing to latch onto. All the short songs sounds the exact same too, making 2/3rds of the album pretty insufferable. The melodies are the most repetitive and boring things I've ever heard, I honestly wouldn't even really call it that. There are some decent ideas here, but they're just too crowded with all the bullshit. Seeing that this is their debut, they probably went on to become better at writing. But really, for the time, this is one of the most awful albums I've ever heard.

i swear if i got this album as my first album on the list I MIGHT of not of done the list. it's not complete nonsense (there's a good song about 70% into it) but like... don't we have enough pop punk new wave to go around on the list already...
I'm really glad that this album is as short as it is, because honestly, it's not great. It's like if the Ramones were nonsensical and not fun. Anything good on this album is completely overshadowed by the rest. Yeah, nah.

Noisy, sludgy and at the same time spiky grungy punk? Didn’t enjoy this.
I have never heard a "punk" album so boring or lacking in energy. Feels like it lags half a beat behind where it should be. Like every note is having to unstick itself from a pool of molasses.
Well - there were a couple of okay songs on it. But a 35 minute record felt like a 3 day marathon. Not as bad as some of the punk stuff you have in this list, but thanks ... no thanks.

Yeah, yeah, another punk album that sounds surprisingly modern for the time of the release. Good remaster too. But it's nothing that stood out to me. At times, I was even annoyed.
Nothing the blew me away. I'm not the biggest punk fan, every song sounds the same to me.

2nd half of the album is more punk flavoured; love it! 12 X U came across this gem when I started my punk journey decades ago. That song along gets a 5, the rest of the album certainly the first half was largely forgettable? I'll try a 2nd listen with rested ears. Good thing, too. Ex Lion Tamer is punk, and Lowdown has a great groove to carry through. As a collection of pieces that make up a concept album of theatre bits or scenes it's a 3 or 4 but as an album to listen to good music it's a 2 or 3. Given the post-punk albums on the list maybe this genre just isn't for me.

Anders als die meisten ihrer Zeitgenossen kamen drei der vier Musiker aus einem kunstakademischen Umfeld, was sich unmittelbar in der Herangehensweise niederschlägt: Wo der zeitgenössische Punk auf Wucht und Tempo setzte, reduzierten Wire ihre 21 Songs auf das absolute Minimum, brachen Strukturen ab, kaum dass sie sich etabliert hatten, und verzichteten konsequent auf jede Wiederholung, die nicht zwingend nötig war. Das Ergebnis ist ein Album, das sich der Kategorisierung beharrlich entzieht. Stücke wie "Field Day for the Sundays" sind nach 28 Sekunden vorbei, während andere wie "Strange" oder "Mr. Suit" genug Raum bekommen, um eine eigentümlich kühle, fast klinische Atmosphäre aufzubauen. Besonders bemerkenswert ist, wie organisch sich roher Punk-Antrieb mit einer fast architektonischen Disziplin verbindet – "Three Girl Rhumba" und "Ex Lion Tamer" zeigen das in ihrer lakonischen Prägnanz, "12XU" liefert dagegen den unmittelbaren Energieausbruch, der später unzählige Hardcore-Bands prägen sollte. Was Pink Flag von vergleichbaren Platten seiner Zeit abhebt, ist die Weigerung, sich auf eine einzige Idee von Punk festlegen zu lassen. Die Band experimentiert mit Leerraum, abrupten Songenden und einer beinahe minimalistischen Klarheit, die das Album eher in die Nähe von Konzeptkunst als von Drei-Akkord-Rebellion rückt. Gerade diese Sperrigkeit, die sich nicht sofort erschließt, macht die Platte auch fast fünfzig Jahre später noch interessant – sie verlangt aktives Hinhören statt bloßes Mitwippen. Ein Debütalbum, das seine Vorbilder hinter sich lässt, kaum dass es sie zitiert hat.

Album 88 Top 3 favorites off the album: 1 2 X U, Field Day for Sundays, Surgeon's Girl I was surprised to see a 35 minute runtime with 21 tracks. That's a minute and some change per song. That's not too long. It clued me into Wire being a punk band, as the only other band who had a similar ratio of album runtime:number of tracks was also punk. I was feeling a little pessimistic after the opening track. I thought it was going to be noise for 35 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. My biggest issue with this format is that all the songs are so short that they all become one even when they have distinct differences in sound, and I don't usually want to go back and see which ones I really liked. They go by too fast for me to really make a decision in the moment, way too fast for me to make a ranking in my head. Also, after a quick skim of the album to decide on my favorites, this one in particular had a lot that sounded the same. It was a fine listen. Not a lot of big thoughts on it. Won't come back to regularly, but won't write off entirely.

This is an unremarkable album with some nice ideas and, every so often, even a genuinely good song. Unfortunately, it also feels hectic, unorganized, and in desperate need of polish or trimming. I would have much preferred if the artists had focused on expanding the parts that actually worked instead of throwing every idea at the wall to see what sticks. Out of the bunch, "Strange" and "Fragile" work better than the rest.

Highly annoying album. I'm growing pretty weary of British post-punk stuff. It's alright in small doses, and thankfully all the songs on Pink Flag were short, that's one positive. Every time I thought there was a song that I liked, the band would do something to make it annoying. The vocals were jarring, repetitive organ chords, repetitive lyrics, etc. etc. I actually really liked the guitar tone on most of the tracks, it just couldn't carry the rest of the band. I guess the OK tracks were "Pink Flag" "106 Beats That" "Strange" but I don't really want to listen to any of them over again. 2/5. At least it was quick.
i like this plenty, but i'm not sure if i'll ever go out of my way to listen to it again. T3- sounds like every indie sleeze song from 2010.
Very middle of the road for me. Some decent riffs and moments. But what has me rounding down is it seems like they had a bunch of ideas for songs, or starts to songs. But then gave up after 40 seconds. I get that’s kind of a thing to do in this genre but feels like they could have spent a lil more time developing those. 2.5

Some cool sounds. Some nice development of punk elements that I thought came a bit later. The vocal style in parts feels like much later indie punk too me. Some cool songs on there for sure. It didn't totally hold together as a piece and stand out as much as I'd like.
This was popular in 1977, huh? I liked the Sex Pistols more. This got kind of old. Not my music.
Every song just kinda sounds the same. It's not my kind of music definitely. I do like when they counted off in french at the beginning of surgeons girl.

Not a huge fan of punk music, it's pretty same-y. I'm not sure about the punk scene as of 1977 but this felt more modern to me.

Based on past reading and talking with folks who love Wire, this was not as high quality as I'd expected. The singing is mediocre at best and often leans towards annoying. But, I get it, punks don't care! Most of the music seams all too similar across the board. Hard to tell one song from another. I really gave this a few tries, but nothing ever really jumped out at me. The best thing about their songs is that they're short. Calling it a 2 and never coming back.

Very into the album name and album art synergy, love literal design choices so much sometimes! The music itself was interesting and abrupt and grating at points. It felt quite modern to me in a way that surprised me, which for an album almost 50 years old probably means I just don’t know enough about 70s rock. Different Like Me reminded me of Someday by The Strokes in particular, and guess that’s the cycle of music inspiration for you! This is a high 2, but it was grating enough to drop below recent 3s.

Three girl rumba is definitely an improvement of the riff stealing Elastica. Overall i didnt mind it but songs like Mr Suit and Different to me just made me anxious so i dont think it is something i would ever seek to revisit
I had never heard of Wire before this, but very quickly I learned they were not for me. They took my “keep songs under 3mins long” instruction to heart, that’s for sure, but those songs were so short it was almost jarring how quickly they ended. This is probably a 1.5* album, and I didn’t hate it as much as some of the other 1* ones.

Didn't really get much of anything out of this. Tried it twice.
I was confused at the start of Three Girl Rhumba and had to go hum the song into google to remind me where I had heard the riff before. A lot of it just kind of blended together making it hard to stick. My mind easily wandered.
I can hear how other, better bands built on this sound to create better music but I'm only so willing to grade on a curve here

The album had its moments but overall I found it rather repetitive and boring, not outright bad too.
Early hardcore/punk. Similar feel to bands like Sparta, or the early At the Drive-in albums.
1/3. Album moves along sooooo fast, feels hard to keep up with it. The vocals are terrible in my opinion, but there are some nice riffs on songs like Lowdown and Strange. Overall, it's a miss for me; I never really understood the whole punk thing anyway.

Lite skränigt och alla låtar lät likadant fast ändå kunde jag urskilja några likheter med Ebba grön och Winnerbäck. När första låten slogs på igen (utan att jag visste om det), tänkte jag: "men den här känner jag ju igen!". Så några fler lyssningar kanske gör att det växer på mig.
Känns som Rimbo Starr också skulle kunna ha en låt som heter Brazil. Den hade dock varit bättre.

Sounds like the boys had a good time. I did not. Can definately hear the influence on later bands though.
Two things I know going into Pink Flag: R.E.M. covered “Strange” on their 1987 album Document, so I already know where we’re headed, and second, “Mannequin” is a song that I thought was great, but listening now in full, is only great because of the spooky off tune background vocals. This album does not do it for me. I’m sure it sounded great in 1977, but every rock band since The Strokes sounds mildly like this so it feels washed out and used up.
Standout Songs: Ex Lion Tamer The Commercial Strange
Post-punk, or proto-punk as I like to call it, has never been my thing, apart from very few exceptions. I prefer my punk angry and vicious, not restrained and with apathy. To put it another way, this is just rock music with variables moved around. English street punk a.k.a. hardcore punk is more my thing, especially the stuff that's now referred to as '82 HC. Personal favourite of the early lot is G.B.H. who were formed in 1978 and still deliver a hell of a punch.
Like 1st album Clash without any of the hooks. 2/5

I don't get the high praise this album has received. Music is bland and repetitive, and so is the "singing". Most of the lyrics are somewhere between nonsensical and meaningless, with very few exceptions.

Dit was het langste album van een half uur dat ik gehad heb denk ik. Het is weer Punk in optima forma, dus snelle korte nummers die voornamelijk herrie zijn en niet echt ergens naar toe lijken te gaan. Ik snap punk niet, nooit begrepen ook, maar sommige punk kan ik ergens de charme nog wel van in zien. Hier gewoon niet echt, het is snel, het is hard, het is distorted en het is kort qua duur. Maar 21 nummers in 35 minuten proppen is, voor mij althans, nou niet echt een prettig album. Maar goed dat kan ook aan mijn muzieksmaak liggen. Kort album, punk, instrumentaal best wel goed maar de zang of schreeuw haalt het voor mij wel naar beneden. Nummers zijn toch vaak net te kort om echt te blijven hangen, maar voor de liefhebber is dat vast de charme. Vast een album dat het goed zou doen op TikTok. FAVO: Mannequin
