Ok mixing, kind of samey

Iggy. What a force. I love the era, the raw sound, and the fact you were either there or you weren’t. Sometimes it just feels like sound scattering. Noise. Mayhem.

Trainspotting vibes

something about these old school punk rocker albums sound and feel really "cute" to me...like a 14 year old discovering blacl flag and trying to learn to play guitar. but i like this better than the clash one for sure

Good early punk sound, but pretty average

Closer to a 2 than a 4. Favorite Songs: You're Pretty Face is Going to Hell Raw Power

Didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Stooges, but still a great album. Raw Power indeed. "Search and Destroy" was great. 3.5 stars

i like this, it felt very man rock

Raw power, is pretty all you need to say

Very raw sounding but expected for the time it was released in Overall pretty solid with some catchy beats

Instruments are great, voice was great, but it did make me think I could have been a lyric writer if I'd been born 60 years earlier

Guy on vocals is a tweaker and drags down the album. Still decent 6/10 TBf he sounds a bit like an og black Francis

Shit dude but good music

I mean its alright. A little bit all over the place. It might have some historic importance but as a listening experience, not completely satisfactory

Listened Before? N Pretty cool 70s glam rock. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Search and Destroy

Not my thing

Not bad for early punk rock. It's usually not my style but I thought it was enjoyable enough.

Favoriten Search and destroy Gimme danger I need somebody

oh my goodness I listened to Raw Power 13 times for this review, just trying to figure out what I couldn't understand about it — this is the kind of music that on paper is right up my alley, but man I tried, I tried and I could not find a way into it.

Say what you will, iggy doesn't make boring music =)

I should like this, I know I should, but something doesn't seem to appeal to me. I really didn't like "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell" or "Raw Power". The rest was alright.

prýðisgott. sándar betur en fyrri útgáfur. er þó síst þeirra verka er mat mit eftir þessa áheyrn. gef 3,5, því ég þarf aðra/meira

Not bad

Fave track is the first. Equal parts garage rocking with some bluesy funk for god measure. “Search and destroy” is my fave

if Gollum had a band. 2.8

some pretty good shredding and guitar licks throughout, and it feels appropriate on top of it, it fits the style of the album. Come to find out this is a departure from their usual style up to this point, which makes sense, it seems a little raw in places, (Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell in particular.) however it was still a fun listen, its interesting to hear harder rock from this point in time.

I think I like Iggys glam stuff better Alternative review To quote Grandpa Simpson “That’s right… I did the Iggy”

Listened to the Bowie mix. Grew on me over time. Latter half of the album much more appealing. I don't expect to relisten to this album multiple times, but I really appreciate it for what it is.

I enjoyed this maybe more than I expected having not massively enjoyed the Iggy album. The vocals are more varied than expected and it had a bit of energy to it, but doubtful I would listen again.

Cool guitars, vocals kinda piss me off tho

It’s fun!

Not my favourite genre. Think it sounds too muddy, but "Death Trip" is a cool song. 3 stars

hiphop anni 90, alcuni pezzi non male, altri da dimenticare e un po' lungo. Inizialmente sul 4 ma andando verso la fine sceso a 3. underwater Rhimes non male

Low low 3

Penetration was skipped, what a terrible song

Enjoyed this album (the Bowie mix) as a passing moment but can't see myself listening again. This sort of thing makes me think "Cool sound of it's time" but I don't connect any more deeply. If I was there at the time and saw this live I imagine I would have enjoyed it. I can see how it could have influenced punk rock later down the line and so deserves it's place in the list.

Ganz okay, etwas anstrengend

This one became a bit forgettable for me. It wasn't great, but it also wasn't really bad, so it didn't really stand out much Standouts Search and Destroy Death Trip 3/5

Some pretty rugged and loose rock and roll in its purest sense. I always thought Iggy Pop was pretty cool, albeit not really my usual type of singer that I'm into, and listening to this album further cements that. I'm definitely enjoying it and getting into the riffs and grooves but his voice is just slightly not really what I want here. I have to admit that I think this might be more of a problem with the production though, as the band sounds really cohesive and it sounds like his voice was kind of placed on top. Regardless, he's a rocker and a punker and this is pretty punk rock for 1973.

Inconsistent, but cool when it comes together. Not going to recommend this to anyone but punk historians though.

The Stooges final outing from their original run is powerful, but ultimately nothing new. Raw Power is the Stooges as we know them, but slightly more straight-ahead rock. If you're already a fan, you'll enjoy this. I like their other albums more. Highs: "Search and Destroy", "Gimme Danger", and "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell" Lows: "I Need Somebody"

This is another of those ones that is interesting as a historical document but not that fantastic to listen to

Song 3 pretty catchy, so far just a hard rock album nothing reeeeally special but high quality. All songs sound kinda the same. Raw power is a stand out

Eh, didn’t do much for me. 3/5 Fav song: search and destroy

Did not age so well

Enjoyed it. Especially in the context of when it came out.

If in the mood for punk rock, this is pretty good.

Some... interesting lyrics.. but overall solid.

I started with the Iggy mix and switched over to Bowie. Maybe Bowie is rounded out a little more, or maybe getting more into the album I got into it a bit more. I can hear how this is the precursor of punk, but also I couldn't get over how unbearably white and "my dad being a rebel" this feels to me? But also to be fair, Iggy Pop is not exactly my style anyway.

I loved a lot about this album, but man, those vocals… I don't know what it is, I really like the Stooges Debut, but this is just a bit too much for me. Did Iggy Pop get like a 10 years younger when I wasn't paying attention? I don't know, but this overall just comes across as rather obnoxious and childish. Like, I get ""punk attitude"" but this comes actually as just plain rude, i dunno. Still, this album has some undeniable energy I can't help but to respect.

Garage rock stripped to its small pulsating parts and laid out like a carpet. Enough killer riffs and hooks to start a pit to, but long and jammy enough to really languish in. As likely to satisfy free festival grebos on brown acid, council estate punks on glue and chin-stroking prog and krautrock Heads on hashish. They didn’t have the weird Beefheart skronk sax yet, it’s all just fuzzy noise, baby!

I don't think I like this, but I also think I might like this more than I think. Because it was short, I listened to both the original and the remix. The latter IS cleaner, but grime was an essential ingredient in the original... so, I think they both have merit depending on what you're after.

This had some interesting moments. The vocals were stale though. Overall I didn’t mind it, but it didn’t really leave an impression either

Całkiem niezłe. 3/5

Good punk but not to my taste

Interesting hearing about each of the different mixes that were released for this album in particular. I understand that the Bowie mix was the "original" mix released, so I'll be speaking on that one. I can see how this was influential in the punk rock sphere, considering the heavy guitar riffs and the vocals of one Iggy Pop, who was born to be a punk rock star. "Search and Destroy" has likely been heard by most and acts as a great starter for what's to come. This mix may have been a little too "polished" but it was still a quick and good time.

Something I appreciated right away was the fact that I could immediately tell what the music was gonna be, and I quite enjoyed it. It was nice and short but a good old rock.

Great album. Love Iggy Pop. Just the rawness and fun of this album is great.

Good rock album. Doesn’t stand out in anything extraordinary, but enjoyable

Hmmm, expected more.

Some great moments but a lot of mediocre stuff too. The mix is bad, which I now know is a notorious feature of this album. Penetration was a favorite going in and I hadn't really considered what it was about, despite the... name. Search and Destroy is great but the whisper vocals feels like a miss. If he was just belting that out I think its a better song.

Its obvious that I wasnt THERE, but heres my take anyway There are some solid rockers on this. Search And Destroy is fantastic, Gimme Danger - was this a song cousin to gimme shelter from 1 year earlier? Penetration was creepy cool, Raw power sounded like a KISS song 😂 and David Bowie was involved? Cooool Heres the thing. The Stooges (which included iggy pop) were doing this same shit, but (in my opinion) better 3 years earlier. Down On The Street and I Wanna Be Your Dog are better than any of these tracks. 1969 was just an absolutely bonkers year for music. So yeah, good stuff, but not their best. 3 stars

Still a bit stale but the best stooges album I've had

IGGY POWER

It's pretty sick but I feel confident that I'll never listen to it again.

kinda cool rock

315/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

With gusto! (25 known/49 new)

First i heard to the Bowie mix and it was horrible. I hated it. Then i listened to the Iggy Mix and it was waaaaaay better. Proto-punk needs to be mixed right to not sound like shit. But in general i wasn't completely convinced by the album

This was fine but nothing earth shaking, so, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed

Very fuzzy sounding garage-glam record. This type of sound was actually incredibly influential for the whole punk wave that appeared just a few years later. I'm actually surprised this is an album from 1973, and also surprised David Bowie was one of the architects of its iconic sound. Key tracks: Search and Destroy Gimme Danger

I’m a big fan of the first two Stooges records. They were a big revelation for me, especially being released so long before music I love that borrows so liberally from the sound. This one is also good, but veering more into early punk. And I don’t really like early punk. Love the energy, but the music doesn’t tickle my particular pickle. Holy shit what a terrible sounding mix though! I’m glad I’m not crazy, the Wikipedia page for this record has the whole story of why it sounds so bad. I guess a buncha people on hard drugs could use some supervision in the studio.

Gotta love good ol Iggy and can't deny the genius of Bowie.

Penetration är kanske den mest sexfyllda låten jag hört. Deras ljud är verkligen garage-rock. Även här hör man tydligt inspiration från rock 'n' rollen, t.ex. i Raw Power.

Solid effort by Iggy and the boys. 3.5 stars.

I think I enjoyed Funhouse more but this ones still awesome

Decent.

The first two tracks are solid, classic early punk songs. I like the early rock n’ roll sensibility of the title track and “I Need Somebody”. However, many tracks fall into the “don’t do drugs kids” category for me.

Pre-listening thoughts: we just got Lust for Life by Iggy Pop like a week and a half ago, so I have a decent feel of what to expect from the Stooges based on that. Post/during listening thoughts: I’m not sure I enjoy either mix of this??? Like I mean it’s a good album. Good songs. But the mixing on both Bowie and Iggy’s versions are not my fav. Everything on Iggy’s mix is too loud, and everything on Bowie’s mix sounds like a tin can. If you’re going for “raw power” I think Iggy captured that more. I am flip flopping between a 3 and 4 for this because of the mixing! 😭😭 But regardless of the mix this is a FUN album. There is so much energy and liveliness here, and every song is filled with character. Iggy’s vocal performance is really uniquely punchy. I liked this. 6/10 *EDITED FROM 7/10. Mixing is really just that bad. DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: nope Fav tracks: Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, Raw Power, Shake Appeal Least fav tracks: n/a

Probably a 4-star album if it didn't sound so bad. Prefer the Iggy Pop mix, but it's still just not good.

I like the energy. Not for me for regular listening, though. Cool to have heard it.

This is so guitar-driven and raw. Pretty interesting album and it's easy to understand how it has influenced other guitar-heavy bands.

Better than expected

i need somboddyy babyy, i need sombodyy toooo, i need sombodayy baybyy, just like youu fav tracks: gimme danger; i need somebody

6/10. I can see why someone might like it but overall not really for me.

I listened to the Iggy Pop mix for this as that seemed most appropriate and the Bowie mix seemed a bit thin on a listen of the first couple of tracks. This feels considerably less sleazy than some of Iggy Pops solo work, and reads as a lot more of a straight forward proto punk record. The energy is high, the guitars are grimy and the drums are driving. I wouldn’t say any of the playing is groundbreaking but the songwriting is solid and fun to listen to. There’s a couple of moments where some things sound out of place in the mix such as the xylophone on Penetration and the piano on Raw Power, maybe they’re a bit different on other mixes. Penetration is probably the worst track on here, the xylophone is annoying and doesn’t add a lot to the song and some of the vocal riffs don’t land. I Need Somebody is a somewhat slower, less punk style song, but it’s actually my favourite on the album. The bluesy guitars and percussion are great and the vocals are fun and emotive. Death Trip is also another highlight on here for me. And acts as a pretty good closer. Overall I’d give the album a 3.5.

2/7/25. Iggy Pop can definitely command the mic, and enjoy the raw punk sound from this record. Would revisit.

Iggy…one of a kind. Who doesn’t love a stooge.

Little bit overrated, this one. Search and Destroy is classic and absolutely rips. Couple other good ones in here: Gimme Danger, Raw Power. Sick album cover. Prefer the Iggy mix to Bowie’s. Overall good, not great.

Listened to both the Bowie and Iggy Mixes of this album and I'm split between the 2 on which I favor. 1. Bowie 2. Bowie 3. Iggy 4. Bowie 5. Iggy 6. Bowie 7. Iggy 8. Iggy Iggy exerts his raw power but he's more deranged, less fun compared to the previous album. I don't like it as much. It's wild and steps out of the box so I can see the significance in history. I'm glad to getting exposure to Iggy and his Stooges from the list. I have not been disappointed by their presence but this one comes in at a 2.5.

Rating: 5.5/10 I liked it...barely. Really like the proto-punk sound but something is missing here, possibly the production and the drumming.

Solid album, I prefer a gravelly later Iggy vocal though

Some highs here, but unfortunately too much general noise pollution from the instruments for my taste. Low 3.

Nothing stand out to me - my main takeaway is that the guy in School of Rock is based on the cover guy here

I did not use a private session for Spotify. Iggy is one of the legends in rock that has a long and influential career, that when I listen I kind of think "yeah, he has a few great songs!". I like the energy of this album, but won't be listening to it again.

Iggy Popin punkkia. Kova meininkia ja ihan tykkiä kamaa. Vähän kuin Iggy Popillakin. Parhaat: Gimme Danger, Penetration

Punk for sure. Pretty old school Iggy Pop. Good album

I support any album that's 30 minutes long

The album lives up to its name. Lots of energy. A bit too wild for me, but undeniably good.

It was...fine. Maybe deserves a relisten, I wasn't in the best mood and didn't really focus on the music.

Love a lot of Iggy Pop and The Stooges, but I like their first 2 albums over this one. I know the legacy is strong, but the songwriting just isn't as interesting to me.

In/out 30 minute porto punk that the roller skate kids in The Warriors probably based their personality on.

I need a shower, not in a good way. 2.8.

It’s alright. I found the vocal delivery on most of the songs very lacklustre but the instrumentation is enough to bring it up to a 3. Favourite songs: Search and destroy, raw power.

Solid. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work. I wasn't particularly hooked though. 'Search and Destroy' is my pick for a fave.

Not bad...

Decent voice and raw sound

Meget hårde numre for sin tid! Produktionen er måske lidt flad, fanger ikke rigtig energien der må have været i studiet.

Great vibe - I might even like the more ballad'y songs towards the end.

Seeing Iggy Pop live in ‘87 was an incredibly memorable show. Perhaps it was the memories of that show that set up some higher expectations here. I wanted to like this a bit more, but it just didn’t quite hit home for me. Interesting that this album was mixed three times at various moments both by Iggy himself and during the early years by Bowie. An easy 3 for influence.

I mean there’s not really much to this one at 8 tracks and 34 min, many of which are pretty annoying. Search and Destroy is the standout and a couple other tunes are solid, but that’s it.

Thought I would like this more. Felt very meh. 2.5

Thought I was gonna really like this after the first track but I kinda lost interest as it went along. Probably deserves at least a 3 based on influence but I can’t go any higher. 2.75/5

Cool proto-punk album! Search and Destroy it’s one of the high lights for me

not horrible. very angry, so that's a plus.

emotion

The cover artwork of The Stooges' album Raw Power captures Iggy's intense energy and iconic style. The stark contrast of the fiery colors against a dark backdrop creates a visually arresting effect that resonates with the rawness of the music within. However, while the artwork is memorable and impactful, it may not fully encapsulate the chaotic spirit of the album. Overall, it serves as a fitting representation of a pivotal moment in rock history, earning it a solid three-star rating for its boldness and cultural significance. Album artworks rated: 13/1001 Music's pretty good.

I would have been obsessed with Iggy in the 60s. This had a fuller sound than the Doors and was a little less cerebral than Bowie.

Iggy Pop.

Enjoyed the raw power and punk punches. SEARCH AND DESTROY, GIMME DANGER, I NEED SOMEBODY, catchy and garage-y, but in a good way.

3.5 I’ve found no device capable of playing Search and Destroy as loud as it deserves to be played. One of the greatest rock songs of all time. I like the rest of the album less, but it’s not bad.

This album should be better than the first album, it should be a masterpiece. But it's not, because the production is bad. There are two mixes, the Bowie mix is the one I go with and it's not well mixed. The Iggy mix is too tame however, and takes out most of the energy. The 2023 version of the Bowie mix is what I went with, but the bass guitar and stuff is way too quiet still. Anyways I have to take points off for being such a mess on this front, the first album sounds perfect, and so does the second one, so I don't know why they didn't repeat that. B

I don’t have a lot to say

Raucous, punchy album. Not all songs are heavy hitters though. I'm a big fan of the sweaty, leathery miscreant that is Iggy Pop, and The Stooges can obviously shred and rip it up as a band. I've not listened to them much, and this was a lot of fun. Search and Destroy was my favourite, powerful riff and catchy hook. Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell is a great title, but a middle of the road song. Penetration was probably quite daring in 1973, but in the age of WAP, it hasn't dated with any sort of relevance, and is more of a jam session than a song. Raw Power is a bit more like it in terms of representing Stooges at their best, chugging instruments and slithery vocals draping over them, top marks. I Need Somebody has a great descending guitar riff, and vocals akin to Captain Beefheart, loveable mangy mutt of a tune. Shake Appeal is just a sped up, punkier, Beatles song like I Wanna Hold Your Hand or I Wanna Be Your Man. Death Trip adds very little and is a bit of an anticlimactic closer. With hits and misses, charisma and indifference, this gets a respectable 3.

Solid but a little repetitive.

A perfectly fine punk/rock album that I didn’t hate or love. I’m glad the album wasn’t any longer than the 34 minute run time, otherwise I might have bailed. Wouldn’t listen to it again.

I listened to the Iggy mix first and was not really a fan. Now, having listened to the Bowie mix, I am a fan! I think this record is some good rock. I'm going with a middle of the road review because I think the Iggy Mix is a 2, but the Bowie mix is a 4

Don't have much to say on this one. Liked it, but wouldn't look for it again.

Like the Velvet underground, the Stooges became much more popular later. Good album. The sound is hard to believe it came out of the early 70s

Well this album kicks ass. 3 stars

Rockin, but repetitive.

Liked it more than I anticipated and surprised that I actually liked the Iggy mix more than the Bowie mix despite everyone saying it was "unlistenable" online. Glad to know Search and Destroy and I Need Somebody were especially cool

same Pop

Album rips, I listened to the bowie mix. Raw Power is a great description and the guitar kicks ass

3 - decent rock album to fill 30 minutes. I'm not sure what was up with the iggy mix was about

My first listen to this was on a bike ride, and it sounded pretty bad. I was prepared to give it a 2, or even a 1, but the glowing reviews on here convinced me I should give it a relisten with higher-quality speakers. It's definitely better that way, though Raw Power still isn't as wonderful as many people claim it is. Very cool sound, guitar-heavy, incorporating elements of proto-punk, metal, and a heavy dose of 60s blues-pop. The Stooges' sound reminds me of the Rolling Stones' sound around (roughly) the same time. It also anticipates a lot of late-70s and 80s stadium guitar rock. All of the tracks were better upon a relisten, but some were still poor. The vocals in the songs Penetration and Raw Power (the title track) are poor: vocal breaking, microphone clipping, little to no discernable melody, the works. In fact, the vocals in general are quite unmelodic and unrefined, but it's most noticeable in the title track because of a lack of good instrumental riffs to distract the listener. Penetration has a great bell(?) riff and driving rhythm section, but the vocals are a horrendous half-whispered sexual frenzy that's not fun to listen to at all. The closing track, Death Trip, is essentially a longer cut of the title track, and doesn't add anything new to the table. The two opening tracks – Search and Destroy" and "Gimme Danger" are the strongest. I'll give this to the Stooges: they really pump you up. This had to be incredible live. 3/5 Key tracks: Gimme Danger, Search and Destroy

I wish I kept the track list near me when I was listening. This was a 50/50 album. Some tracks, particularly the bluesy punk ones, were amazing. A couple of tracks the guitar solos and Iggy's voice sounded as if they were doing two different songs. Not a bad album but not one I'll come back to like their first album.

not bad, but quite poorly engineered (as a lot of live stuff is)

It was a 70s rock album. Short, I appreciate that.

Not really my speed

I just don't connect to Raw Power. Like there's some musical talent, but I just don't care for a lot of it. The production is honestly incredibly odd as well. The sound seems neutered by it almost, like the raw power is quite limited.

Best Song: Search and Destroy Worst Song: Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell

Some good old glam/punk rock

The album starts strong but I lost interest as is moved forward. Not as interesting to me musically as it is could be.

It is a good album but for me it's influence is stronger than it's greatness. I much prefer the better songwriting of Lust For Life than the rawness of this record.

Okay, didn't really care for it much. Looking back, I definitely rated Eliminator and Led Zeppelin too highly, Led Zeppelin is a 3 and Eliminator might be a 2, didn't really have my sense of scale figured out but oh well

Is this the birth of punk. Sounds like it!

I went into Raw Power by The Stooges with low expectations, but the energy of the opener, quickly drew me in, even had me tapping my foot. The guitar work is solid, and the drumming is great, while Iggy Pop’s vocals—where I thought the album might falter—actually impressed me. Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell was a surprise, with Iggy adopting a vocal style reminiscent of Alice Cooper, much more intense than what I’m used to from him. Although I enjoyed the album more than I anticipated, I don’t see myself revisiting it often. The standout track is Search and Destroy, but overall, I’d rate it 3/5.

It was powerful

I wanted so badly to like it. It’s high energy alternative rock. What’s not to like? But the mixing job was absolutely atrocious and was so distracting that I couldn’t focus on anything else.

Hieno kansi. Aika voimakasta menoa. Mut joku puuttuu. Koukkuja? Mikään biisi ei nimittäin kummemmin herätä mua eikä jää mieleen.

Not much to say about this one besides that it’s pretty good, but standard by today’s standards, punk rock. Iggy Pop is legendary and an icon of music; however, he broke through into something more different through his solo career rather than with The Stooges. Overall, good punk sound that doesn’t make for anything standout.

It was alright.

could i write poetry to this? n

I like the first 2 albums a lot more than this one. Still not bad though.

Not my favourite album I have listened to I just didn't connect right away. Maybe on a second or third listen I will have a clearer opinion.

Raw Power is always going to be the second best album the Stooges ever recorded because there's simply no way to match the brilliance of Funhouse. That being said, it's an enjoyable listen, even if there isn't much in the way of variation over the course of the whole run-time.

good remix of th Stooges. No middle ground - love or hate them,

I didn’t get through the whole thing, but it sure is the precursor to punk.

I was really looking forward to this album, but man, what a letdown. It's funny to me how this sounds worse than their debut album lmao It sure feels ahead of it's time, and I can appreciate that it probably sounds like shit intentionally, but this is critically acclaimed? Why? It's not particularly interesting. It wasn't a bad listen, I just really don't get the hype behind this album.

https://youtu.be/R8vPwRfcZAM?si=vXgRi3t7yiafYJvq&t=30 This was the first thing that came to mind when i heard search and destroy. Also this guy sound DESPERATE for pussy on Penetration god damn, like a dog crying like it hasn't been fed. Also i though iggy pop and david bowie were the same person i gotta be real. Anyway, not bad. 3/5

Fun, punky album. Penetration has those weird cat sounds though. Best song - I Need Somebody

Great album

p310. 1973. 3 stars. Primeval roots of punk with vocal nods to Jim Morrison and Jagger before he became old and flabby. Short, sweet and on point. Points deducted for lack of standout tunes, ropey lyrics and letting themselves down with excessive wankage on the last track.

entirely too frightening for the likes of me

Rebellious, loud, and sexy. This is in the I-appreciate-it-more-than-I-enjoy-it box. I can't imagine listening to this in '73 as a teenager. It must have captured so much angst and horniness. I also listen to this and can see the way it set the tone for the rebellious energy of the punk/ sleaze rock scene to come. Unfortunately, I don't foresee myself listening to a ton of this moving forward. I listened to the "Iggy Mix" (according to Apple music) and I may give the "Bowie Mix" a shot as well to see what the differences are. Influential, clearly, but not the thing I would regularly listen to.

。。。

Great example of early Punk.

1973? Ahead of its time. Unadorned visceral power. Definitive rock and roll.

Not as fabulous as I wanted it be - love Iggy and his stooges but this was a bit too raw and chaotic.

I liked this, but I didn't love it. Iggy and the Stooges are iconic, and deservedly so. But at the end of the day, this album didn't reveal anything new to me.

I enjoyed this more than I anticipated. Iggy sure does have a mastery of charisma.

Twas quite the pleasurable listen, nothing earth shattering, but a good ole jam fest

If i was teen in the 70's i could imagine this album would be stuck on repeat. The album has a really great angsty feel to it which i enjoyed. However lyrically nothing really stuck out to me.

Could work a few songs into a road-trip playlist but wouldn’t listen to the album in full again.

Pretty solid stuff! First three songs kill and then the rest get a lil boring. A 3.5 probably.

Raw Power was one of several albums I bought when I first heard about the 1001 albums book. I was already familiar with "Search and Destroy," so I figured I'd check out the rest of the album. I remember feeling pretty lukewarm towards this album, and I think I've only listened to it in its entirety one time. I liked Fun House, and really loved Iggy Pop's solo effort Lust For Life, so I'm excited to revisit this album, now that I have more music knowledge under my belt. Well, I really wanted to have more love for this album while listening to it today, but that sadly wasn't the case. I think this is a good album, and it's certainly influential, but I still feel pretty lukewarm towards it in terms of my personal enjoyment. I do like the overall sound of the album (I listened to both the Iggy and David Bowie versions, but since Bowie's version is what I understand to be the only version that was available upon its release), and I especially like how you can hear the early beginnings of punk rock in how the sound was structured. The guitar work on this album is great; I loved how fuzzy and distorted the guitars sounded, but you can still make out the notes and chord progressions really easily. As much as I'm not wild about the album as a whole, "Search and Destroy" is a masterpiece. I love Iggy Pop's vocals, the intro and outro guitar solos, and the chaotic drumming. Overall, while this album isn't really my jam, I appreciate its influence and the overall sound of it. Part of me wonders though, if I had reviewed this before Fun House, would I have enjoyed this album more and Fun House less? I know there's not exactly a ton of Iggy Pop on this list, but six total albums representing his music might be a bit too much for me to appreciate.

Fine. Didn't bother listening to all of the different mix versions, just listened to the Iggy mix. Search and Destroy is a classic.

As the name suggests this album is full of powerful raw punk music. I enjoyed the album quite a bit although the lyrics at times can be a little repetitive.

Rough sound, but can see why it is on the list. Don't think I'll be relistening...

I don’t know it’s just kinda mid. I’ve heard very mixed reviews on Iggy Pop and I look forward to hearing more from him, but this just wasn’t good. It doesn’t really nail the genre as well as others have, as well as the mixing being… something for sure. Realistically, I don’t know much about music reviewing but this just did not settle right with me for whatever reason.

Everything good and bad about punk rock. So basically it evens out.

Hadn't heard all of these, but I liked it okay.

Tiene un par de temazos y mucha energía.

Not ground breaking, but fun classic rock. Deff has dive bar vibes. I would listen again - throw this on as background music at night while hanging out.

Down and dirty. Lo-fi rock for a dive bar with Iggy’s scratchy raw vocals over each song. I can smell the Budweiser, cigarettes, and tight denim on this album.

Early 70s prototype punk rock; very raw sounding. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Definitely a very raw sound. No technical prowess on display here. Just hard driving rock. I enjoyed it more than I expected, but some of it was a little odd.

i mean its iggy so

- Wild und unangepasst. Roh. 2,75/5

Pretty good for what it is. Hits hard, I don't think the production hurts it.

Iggy and The Stooges are definitely up my street, but not really feeling this album

early punk is cool, even if it takes a while to get rolling

Super confused about what to listen to here. Bowie and Iggy both have versions they mixed? Then there’s a four disc version with a live version of the album and then some other rando songs? I went with the Iggy version for my review. Anyway, it was pretty good. Had some rockin grooves. Nothing super wowed me, but it was cool enough. Kind of forgettable though.

The energy (the .. power?) is pretty fun. But other than that, nothing of particular interest to me.

Expected more but it just didn’t stand out at all. It wasn’t bad but I just thought it would sound more lively. It didn’t help that the audio just seemed soft. Not sure if it was Spotify but I haven’t had that issue before. ‘Your Pretty Face’ I enjoyed and ‘Shake Appeal’

First two songs a solid, then the album loses me.

Short, energetic, and punchy. Trims all the fat so there aren't any skips or the album drags. I like the instrumentals as well, has this killer guitar line. I liked it overall.

Nice and intense half hour of punk-rock. Musically I´m completely into it. Gave it a few tries, but maybe just because of the vocals or the production or what ever it doesn´t fully click for me. 🤷‍♂️ Favourite: "Search and Destroy", "Gimme Danger", "Raw Power", "I Need Somebody" 3,5

Listened to Bowie mix.

3 Stars (8/15)

Standard raw affair from the Stooges, rattles along but ultimately doesn't leave much of an impression.

Can’t remember listening to this but found a WhatsApp I sent saying it was meh, will call that a 3

Good but not mind blowing

Pretty decent, but I wound up with the "50th Anniversary Legacy Edition" and the songs just kept going... and going... and going. I can't fault the original album. I could've done with fewer than 34 tracks covering the same 8 or so songs.

Nice short and sweet, but pure RAW POWAR!!

The Stooges are back on my radar. And as a very formative project for the roots of garage rock and punk, I thought Fun House was a very solid piece of work. So I was interested to see where they went with their follow up album. My biggest hopes were for some more ideal production, which to me was one of the biggest downsides to that previous album. Turns out this album was even more of a production disaster upon release. And it wouldn’t be fixed until much later when Iggy himself went back and re-mixed it. But even his mix is confusing. It’s far better than Bowie’s, but it’s still riddled with a lot of very intense compression, which makes the guitars feel squashed at some points. But I adjusted after a few songs. Instead of moving forward with a lot of the groove-based noise rock stuff from Fun House, they dialed it back quite a bit, and went for a simpler and much more familiar punk sound. It’s a lot softer and less intense. Like I already mentioned, I thought this might be the thing for me. A nice change of pace. But I was just flat out wrong. I found this significantly less interesting. And their signature sound just lost all of its cool factor. The best part about this is Iggy Pop, who still maintains solid vocal power. But all of the manic craziness is mostly absent. I think the decrease in intensity paired with the new guitarist they got for this leaves the album feeling plain and much more one-dimensional. Really, I only like it slightly less than Fun House. But it left me feeling so much less satisfied. As a proto-punk album, is this still important? Yes, of course. The Stooges’ catalog will never not be vital to that history. But this sticks out to me as a miss for such a cool and wild band. Rating: 6/10

that's iggie

Iggy þekki ég en hef eiginelga aldrei hlustað á Stooges og þeir eru að mínu mati ekkert voðalega spes. Kannski voru þeir ögrandi og framúrstefnulegir á sínum tíma en mér fannst þetta algjör meðalmennska og mun fljótlega gleyma þessari plötu sem stóð 0 upp úr.

I wish the quality of the vocals on Search and Destroy had the gravity Gimme Danger has. Overall Eccentric and a kind of punk sounding fun album. I’d return to listen again 3.5

I supposed "Raw Power" is the correct title for this album. I give it credit for having plenty of it. I also didn't enjoy it much, but that's just me, I guess.

Iggy may be wanting to rock me, but I guess I am just not in the mood. Or maybe I am just not cool enough.

Much more tolerable than Fun House. Fine.

Interesting listen. Best track is Gimme Danger, but the others are good too

The guitar work here is pretty great. It's an early precursor to a lot of punk. Good and unique style. Other music sounds better but that's not the only thing this was trying to do.

Well… it’s raw, and it’s powerful. I have to be in a particular mood to get into it.

Nice blues inspired music with an early punk twist. To my taste but something holds be back from wanting to re listen

Shake Appeal

This Stooges album didn’t have the same energy or uniqueness as the last one I listened to. This is a band that the listener would benefit from seeing the perform live. They are made for that.

Wat te dynamisch en rommelig maar op zich okay!

Fun album

3 for the album, but a 5 for Gimme Danger

pretty awesome low key

Raw punk

I really dislike punk, this is better than the stuff from the sex pistols and everything after it, but still not my type of music

3/5. Energetic, grungy classic rock. Nice guitar work.

I like the raw energy and enjoyed this more than I thought I would. 3.5/5

not bad to start probably a 3 / 5 decent album, not exactly my cup of tea

Pretty good but nothing stand out.

not... that special. really I don't get iggy pop.

Though it is a seminal rock work, i don't think it holds up particularly well. I don't love iggy's plain singing rock voice... very generic and not interesting. just shouty/screamy. His best sound is when he is able to use his Iggy twang, on tracks like I Need Somebody (a little slower). In general, it sounds a bit like the Doors (maybe a bit less psychedelic), but nothing as as catchy. I like Search & Destroy and I Need Somebody most. Interesting listen.

Okay, not bad for this style of music, just not really what I'm into.

solid early rock album. my fav track was gimme danger. o can definitely see that a lot of artists got inspiration from this record. the first that came to mind was the white strips. i don’t see myself listening to it again but i can see joe it was definitely ahead of its time.

This is an influential punk album, but I am not a fan of his voice here. There are some good guitar parts, but not enough to hold my attention for long. If I have learned anything from this list, I learned I am not a huge fan of 70s punk.

This album sounds like 10-20 other albums ive heard on this list. Very basic, nothing sprung out.

Probably will never listen to this again, but it's good rock from what I'm hearing, especially track 1.

Punk clásico. Música desparpajada, desprolija, pero encantadora. Un reflejo de su época y de la rebeldía adolescente descarrilada.

Raw and powerful guitar work, although a bit sloppy. I got it adds to the mystique. The songs are catchy enough and the yelling style is certainly punk rock. A little rough around the edges, and I think I agree that the Iggy cut is more pure. Not quite my listening preference but still enjoyable.

6/10 This was fine, a classic 3 star Full of energy but not as pure punk as I expected Iggy has a more versatile voice than I knew But I can’t honestly say anything really stood out Best: Search and Destroy

Oh the energy! Im not sure theres a lot of albums from the 70’s that I enjoy listening to from start to end. But Raw Power is one of them. James Williamsons Guitarwork lifts the album despite Iggys limited vocals and lyrics. I believe Williamson guitarstyle has influenced alot of later bands: punk, grunge, rock and glam alike.

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to listening this one as I had an uninformed preconceived notion of 90's Iggy Pop sans Stooges and generally do not like "punk" music; but I like hearing music I haven't heard, so I gave it a fair listen. The first song is just what I would expect from an album called "Raw Power." Dirty and driving, it chugs along with distorted American rock n' roll, wearing Aviator sunglasses and a black leather jacket while one-handedly eating a hamburger AND smoking a cigarette. Pure attitude. (I'm not sure if Iggy owns a black leather jacket, or even a single shirt for that matter.) Expecting more of the same, "Gimme Danger" really surprised me in direction and execution, answering the question of what The Doors would sound like with different and distorted instrumentation. As a whole, this album continually oscillates between some throw-away power chord biker bar house music and more inspired and dangerous melodies that seem a natural evolution of predecessors like the Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Iggy's chameleon vocals shine throughout, employing cat calls and howls, breathy whispers and growls in "Penetration," and morphing effortlessly between Captain Beefheart, Jim Morrison, Glenn Danzig, and Julian Casablancas in songs like "Death Trip" and the swaggering "I Need Somebody." Instrumentally, it's very one-note. The guitar/bass/drums/vocal arrangement is dully consistent but at least performed with enthusiastic abandon. This plays out more like a live album; one can easily imagine how entertaining of a show this spectacle will be in small club. Much like a bicycle in motion will keep itself upright, the sheer momentum of the "Raw Power" guided missile auto-corrects its trajectory before ever allowing itself to steer off-course too much, but it is quite surprising how much variety they are still able to pack into such a narrow focus. It won't stir your vulnerabilities, but it doesn't have to; sometimes you just want to pump your fist and nod your head.

Proto punk. This is another artist that I have not done a lot of listening to. I am familiar with Lust For Life from later years, Search and Destroy and I Wanna Be Your Dog. What's really odd to me is I kept thinking of the band Cream while listening to this. Cream with a large injection of testosterone, a less busy drummer than Ginger Baker and a singer with a go eff yourself attitude. All tones were very very dirty which at times made it hard to pick out parts or intricacies of what was being played, even with the remaster. The instruments sound like they were recorded in a garage...maybe that was the goal? It stuck me that James Newell Osterberg Jr. has mostly a baritone type voice but was still able to sing some of the songs in a higher register. I picked up some psychedelic influence in some of the way he was recorded. Again on the muddiness of the sound, I remember RHCP doing a cover of Search and Destroy and it seemed like they went for a note for note interpretation. I thought they did a really good job of it and you really got to hear the intricacies on a much clearer recording. I imagine the RHCP version may have been closer to what that song would have sounded like live in 1973. On this album Iggy has a very anti establishment feel to a lot of what he is singing. Standouts for me are Search and Destroy, Shake Appeal and Gimme Danger. I can imagine this being a very energetic show to go to.

My favourite stooges one yet.

Raw Power, by The Stooges, was almost a horrible album, but had a nice turnaround. Through the first hallf, I was bored with the shrill and, in my opinion, unmajestic vocals. However, starting with Raw Power, the vibes and sounds felt more direct and listenable, and this continued till the end. That. Being said, it wasn’t some crazy switch up, but there was a betterment. All in all, Raw Power is a mid album. Best Song: Raw Power Worst Song: Gimme Danger

walks the line between fun and a little annoying

hard rock is not my thing

This was fine.

music for people who eat churros twice a week

Favourite song - Search and destroy 3.5

First time listening to a full album by the Stooges. Raw and gritty, I really liked it

a classic, just didn't resonate with it that much

I think it's very important to listen to both mixes here. The Bowie one is quite clearly what the band wanted to go for when making the album, but the Iggy one is way more digestible and helps you, well, understand the songs. With that being said, I'm so, so disappointed that I don't like this more than I do. The influence on my favorite music is obvious. The influence on the album from my favorite ever artist is obvious. But...I just don't like listening to it as much as I wanted to. Favorite track: Raw Power (Bowie Mix), Death Trip (Iggy Mix)

I listened to this after getting “Funhouse”. Honestly, it sounds like it’s missing something that their previous record had. It feels more phoned in. Still pretty solid though.

Better and more polished than I expected. Solid.

Every single proto-punk album is like "This album will SHOCK you, ELECTRIFY you, it's so RAW, LOUD, VULGAR. You will not BELIEVE they put this to tape. It's EVIL and DIRTY." And then you listen to it and it's some hillbilly singing about how he wants head over badly mixed generic rock instrumentals for 40 minutes. Despite the gigantic Seinfeld Effect in play, it's still pretty fun. Kind of gets samey by the end, but those first two songs rocked.

Some really really awesome stuff here, love this proto-punk feel. Guitar work especially on the Iggy Mix is really cool. Favorite was I Need Somebody.

3.5 good album. Can definitely see how this album went on to influence punk. High energy and dirty

OK. Für Tage an denen man Luft ablassen muss! 3/5

did not listen to the whole thing but i liked what i heard

Ensimmäinen Stoogesi.. näitä tulossa useempi.. Raakaa rock and roll kikkelin l'mä'yttöeluyöä kasvoille... Jos taustalla yleisö mikki heh.. meikä poika korottaisi... obj music crtic

I kind of like Search and Destroy

Not bad. Made for people younger than me. I probably would have enjoyed it more back then.

Search and Destroy Gimme Danger

Straight forward rock and roll. Not very interesting to me.

Its fine

I have not heard of this album before but I do know The Stooges by name. I have heard of Iggy Pop before but I did not know he was apart of this band. This sound isn’t something I’ve heard often but it wasn’t bad, just different. I really liked the song: I need somebody. I don’t think my first listen really appreciated this album so I’m willing to give it a second try. I need to listen to more punk.

3/5 Best Track: Gimme Danger

More listenable than the debut Stooges album, and musically it feels like it could hit a bunch of different buckets - Punk, some Doors-like Psychedelia, even some metal, but all a good hard-edged sound with good riffs and ripping guitars. Favorite is Gimme Danger.

iggy iggy iggy.

Was surprised to learn they aren’t a British 70’s punk group. Some head bopping tunes but overall not mine

As with The Stooges, this album starts well enough with Search and Destroy but runs out of steam and then gets repetitive and dull. No doubting the influence on punk, although these are serious musicians and many of the songs are not dissimilar from a lot of hard rock of the same period. Neither this or its predecessor match the buzz and experimentation of Fun House

- Didn’t like it as much as the last Stooges album - A little more rock focused than punk

I had no idea Iggy Pop was in The Stooges nor from Michigan. It was cool to learn about that, and how this album was released in large part to David Bowie being a fan of the Stooges despite their crazy concerts and drug usage. Things kind of fell apart for them after this, and then Iggy took off solo.

Enjoyable 3.5

All style and no substance. Iggy strikes me as a lot of flash with no real talent. However, the manic, driving power of the rest of the band, especially James Williamson’s guitar work, is worth three stars.

I like the instrumentation and some of the vocals, but honestly nothing special and nothing I haven't heard before.

Iggy Pop is een levende legende, maar ik kon dit niet heel erg waarderen

Kort albumpie doet het altijd goed. Verder wel oke, maarja ben nooit echt fan van die glam rock achtige muziek geloof ik

One of those albums that doesn't sound like it was recorded when it was recorded. As they say, does what it says on the tin. Raw, loud, angry rock. Not all winners here but some crackers too.

Not my thing

Sonido sucio y eso fuerza bruta. Buen disco aunque no sea mi estilo.

Probably will not listen to again but a 3 out of respect
