Forgettable but fine
We’re only one week from British daylight savings so albums will go back to generating at 11 instead of midnight hooray One time I was buying some iggy pop records from cd central and a bus driver leaned out his window to yell at me and try to have a conversation about them and I hope that bus driver is doing well.
This one was polarizing! Loved some of the songs, was irritated by others. Really liked the guitar parts, and some of Iggy’s wild energy. Disliked every time he made that sucking air through his teeth sound. Def an acquired taste that I’m working on
Okay! Not my favorite. I'm realizing I have a trend of not liking when musicians make random noises in the middle of songs, and that carries through here. The energy just wasn't my favorite, and also was a little too horny for what I want to hear these days. I will say I was jamming the whole way through regardless!
5.5/10 I'm all for separating the art from the artist (otherwise half of the albums on here would have to be 1/5), but knowing Mr. Pop was having sex with 13 year olds at the time does make some of these lyrics appear a lot more cringe.
Cool.
Classic punk rock
His spine scares me
Lovely instrumentation, don't know if I can say the same about the vocals. Cool noise rock elements + influence are there. Mixing is lowk awful but that's not really their fault 3/5
Está bien, en su época tuvo que ser la bomba y sobre todo en directo. Me guardo "Search and Destroy".
Funny, I’ve listened to more stooges in the past week than I have in my life. I think I like this album more than the previous one.
They’re making a ROCK ALBUM but is too scared to turn up the bass?? Anyways other than that it’s pretty typical rock and roll it’s ok.
OK stooges album. It was stodgy
Interesting album. The opening track "Search and Destroy" reminded me of Hawkwind's "Urban Guerrilla" / "Brainbox Pollution" which is a similar vintage. The second track, "Gimme Danger", has echoes of Lou Reed's "Transformer".
first time i'm hearing this band. these guys collabed with iggy pop and david bowie, and according to my sources, it's a fair departure from their usual sound, less emotional and more hefty. this album is distorted as hell. the voices, the guitars... it feels like you're being shaken. it's a lot and i can't get into it too much. certain pressings of the album sound even worse. i guess if you like the energy and don't mind hearing spit in your ears, you could like it.
Raw Power is the perfect name for this album. That’s exactly what it is. And I can only imagine what the live show would have been like.
Faz 1 semana que tá tocando o mesmo album
Extremely high energy, nice guitar parts and pumping drums. Ultimately, it felt lacking some structure to me, but I can understand why it was important.
Nice kind of grunge/punk I guess. Nothing that would stand out as my new favourite song but a reasonably solid album that I'd go back and listen to I reckon.
Good stuff, plenty of energy and raw power 3 stars
Classic
Good
could have rounded up to 4, but for me, a firm 3.5
Great stuff. Search and Destroy still blows me away every time
Not heard before, decent
Not a massive fan of this kind of thing, but it's very well done. A 3 for the appreciation of what's clearly a good album
Good album, three stars. Thank you RGP. Tom.
I kind of get it, but it also feels like you had to be there. But hey all for bands from Ann Arbor doing well to distract them from their sh*t football team. Rounding up.
Raw Power is certainly an accurate way to describe this album. On the "Raw" side of things, the sound quality is as if recorded on a mobile phone, belying its age and really making me appreciate how good some of the albums in the '60s sounded, but I digress. On the "Power" side of things, this is a really fun album with all the energy of a live performance. It's impossible not to jump around to it.
This also didn’t really impress me. It was fine to listen to and it was fun to listen to the different versions, but other than that it didn’t leave much of an impression. Struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite because it felt pretty similar to me. Fav song: Search and Destroy Least fav: Shake Appeal
I enjoy the novelty of there being two mixes of the album- but I think I enjoy that more than the music (of either mix). Favourite song: I Need Somebody Least: Penetration
This is the most 3 star album I’ve ever heard It’s the epitome of mediocre; the vocals are fine but not goosebump inducing. The guitar solos are cool but I’ve heard cooler. The overall sound is pleasant but I’m not jamming out to it. The first track is definitely the best and seeing every track after that get more forgettable is a little disappointing. I listened to this one less than 24 hours ago and I already forgot how they sound If this was on for a long car ride it would be totally fine, but I wouldn’t ever consciously select it. It’s forgettable, which is a truly terrible fate
did they record this in wall insulation lmao
Not great, not bad. Iggy Pop being Iggy Pop at least and not David Bowie. Edgy, fun sounds, maybe proto-punk if I'm searching for a label.
Thank goodness this album ha some decent music. Well, I say decent, but I'm still giving it a 3. It sounded good but it didn't really hit for me. I do like that it's short, it made catching up on the albums easier, but that's about all I can say about it.
My first listen to this was on a car ride with my mom, and it sounded pretty bad. I was prepared to give it a 2, or even a 1, but the glowing reviews on here convinced me I should give it a relisten with better sound quality. It's definitely better that way, though Raw Power still isn't as wonderful as many people claim it is. Very cool sound, guitar heavy, incorporating elements of proto-punk, metal, and a heavy dose of 60s blues pop. The Stooges' sound reminds me of the Rolling Stones' sound around the same time. It also anticipates a lot of late-70s and 80s stadium guitar rock. All of the tracks were better upon a relisten, but some were still poor. The vocals in the songs Penetration and Raw Power are poor: vocal breaking, microphone clipping, little to no discernible melody, the works. In fact, the vocals in general are quite lacking in a melody and unrefined, but it's most noticeable in the title track because of a lack of good instrumental riffs to distract the listener. Penetration has a great bell(?) riff and driving rhythm section, but the vocals are a horrendous half-whispered sexual frenzy that's not fun to listen to at all. The closing track, Death Trip, is essentially a longer cut off the title track, and doesn't add anything new to the table. The two opening tracks "Search and Destroy" and "Gimme Danger" are the strongest. Did I need to hear this before I die? No, but I'm sure some did.
It's...fine. A pleasant enough listen, and the songs are decent enough, if not a little rudimentary. I can see how it would seem exciting in a pre-punk world, but in 2026 its not something that I'm particularly interested in revisiting
I'm sure this record deserves a few more listens, but it was wrong suggestion on the wrong day as I couldn’t get into it. I recognize the raw energy of Iggy Pop, the punk rocks was fast and chaotic, and I'm sure it'll be a better listen on another day.
I can see why this was such a monumental album when it came out in the early 70s but it's just not for me. It's too raw and disjointed.
interesting. listened to bowie mix. not my genre but it wasn't a bad album.
Well I don't like either of the two mixes on here, and I am predisposed to hate Iggy on political grounds, so take my opinion hear with a grain of salt. It's 'ight. I can definitely hear its influentialness but do I rate the album on influence or enjoyment? Because if so it gets knocked down a little. The lyrics are kind of inane when you can make them out, Iggys singing can actually work really well on some tracks though which balances it out. Honestly I think the crux of the problem for me is its not a consistent album, largely due to the production. I really enjoyed some songs: Gimme Danger, I need somebody and maybe Raw Power. On the other hand Search and Destroy sounds washed out to me in both versions, Death Trip feels the same but its even worse and I just generally don't like penetration as a song. Edit: Did give it a light 4, but I forgot about the Sexual abuse against minors that have come to light and whilst I try to let albums speak for themselves, that gives it just enough ick for me to knock it down on principle.
Fine
It has moments, but Iggy Pop is still a creep. Should every song be about sex ? No. Musically interesting though, and I get it.
Not as discordant and chaotic as some other punk type music. It was listenable.
I thought I was not going to like this but it's pretty cool
Mix was weird, album was fine.
Raw for sure, needs more power
Death trip was indeed deadly.
What's the ratio of Time Iggy has a shirt on : Time Iggy does not have a shirt on? Not even just public appearances, just like throughout the average day
12/02/2026 Can't say I was overly excited by this. Spotify listeners: 961.2k
A 3.
6/10
didn’t stand out to me
Great energy, decent songs
Decent record. Couple of bangers, kinda wild, fine.
Not my kind of music.
Great energy but I wasn't really feeling it :/
I really like the scuzzy vibes of Eggy Parp (as my kids call him) and the Stooges. I just don't really wanna listen to an album's worth of them all that frequently.
Something feels off with this record. Maybe it's the washed out instruments don't match the over energetic vocals. Maybe it's that the vocals are frequently off beat and feel forced. There's enough energy to find some enjoyment but it's nothing I'll be running back to.
Gravelly
The title says it all. It was too much power for me today. I better go back to Leonel Power...
Mostly ok.
The music is not bad I love the guitar parts and generally I liked it. Not enough to listen more by them, though.
Not bad. Not great. Probably won’t be revisiting. 3/5
Obviously impressive guitar, especially on Search and Destroy and Death Trip. Original mix production was a little too grainy for me, have to give the remaster a listen
Не моє)
there's really nothing wrong with it, but this album simply did move me in any particular way. it did not spark joy. listened twice just to make sure i wasn't missing anything, and the "Iggy Mix" was just barely enough to bump the score; the mixing was fixed up enough to inspire a modicum of headbanging, a smidgen of "sticking it to the man". favorite song is Gimme Danger, i thought it was quite cool
The Search & Destroy album! Heroin rock from the early 70's It's not at all a polished sound, but it possesses a wierd energy that's sort of appealing, and clearly pointed the way for the punk and alternative artists that followed
More accessible than I thought - some songs a little intense for me but I listened to both mixes and overall was good
Dirty and loud and charismatic
*Was hopeful this would sound better than it did *Classic rock sound
Some fun songs I guess, not much to write home about.
Not UNhappy that I listened to this
이기팝 노래 첨 들어봄 옛날 앨범치고는 아주 괜찮음 3.5주고 싶은데 이 사이트는 반점을 못 주네
Decent punk-ish rock record. Reminded me of a punkiervl Rolling Stones. Nice concise track list and quality sound
Some bangers and some duds. Of course very influential to punk, but wouldn't listen to most of these tracks over earlier garage rock or slightly later punk, except as a history lesson
Not my usual cup of tea but really enjoyed the guitar tone/sound paired up with the vocals. Enjoyed it. Favourite song was I Need Somebody.
eh
My favorite song was “Search and Destroy”
cool but a little boring sometimes
First time delving into the Stooges. I really liked about half the songs. No bad tracks on the album.
👍🏻
1/14 Another Iggy Pop album. This time with his band The Stooges. Not a bad album, can see the influence it had but don't see myself listening to it again
Ik snap dat het best invloedrijk is geweest, maar ik vind de nummers vrij simpel klinken, dus zo erg geniet ik er ook niet van. 3/5
It was fine
5/10
Thank goodness Dan Worrall won the Loudness War. It means I can finally listen to both Bowie's and Iggy's mixes without setting off my tinnitus for the next 6 hours.
I’m not sure which mix to listen to, I went Iggy’s mix. A little more underwhelmed on this one than I was expecting. Feels like it’s wandering around a lot of good ideas but never really gets there. It’s punk as hell and that’s cool and I’m sure this is wonderful live but as far as the recording goes it started pretty high and steadily declined over the course of the record. Other albums I listened to fully today: Consolers of the lonely - the raconteurs 5/5 Maybe too long but it’s so good. Dead horse x - Touche amore 6/5 Still my favorite album ever made, had to check in ITYDELL - Prince Daddy 4/5 Their second best effort so far, self titled clears. I’m really excited for the new album, I love this dudes voice and riffs so much. I tried listening to the newest Weeknd album and it started off really good but got boring real fast so I didn’t finish it.
Rather short but powerful, raw album. Not entirely of my liking, but undoubtably very relevant in its historical context. 7/10
Solide
You can hear the Bowie influence and it adds to the chaos.
Not my type
J'ai lu que cet album faisait potentiellement partie des 10 plus grands albums du rock! Soit! Pour ma part je ne suis pas totalement conquis. Il y a 2/3 titres pépites tout de même !
Fun proto-punk album. I'd never given Iggy a listen before. So that's cool. The titular track was my favorite.
3.5/5 - great album clearly really influencial on new york punk scene
3.5 stars I wanted to like this album more than I did. I've heard of Iggy Pop certainly, and even liked a few of the songs I've heard of his. Nothing from this album really grabbed me, unfortunately. Favorite song: Search & Destroy
Iggy is all kinds of raving maniacal unhinged lunacy and the band is like a squalling fuzzy heap of enraged wreckage. Some pretty hooky pop underneath a few songs, not that that was the point.
It’s like if The Rolling Stones decided to be a garage band instead. I love the edge and sass.
best song: gimme danger worst song: your pretty face is going to hell surprise song: -
I was kinda hoping for more but maybe I just like iggys solo stuff more
Likes it
reasonable
Oh, so that's where Search & Destroy is from!
154/1089 i liked Search & Destroy… after that it felt like it plateaued and became a bit more generic glam rock. it was decent, Iggy has the presence for it, just musically not my fave. 59/100
Already rated this, see my previous review.
Interesting to listen to in terms of it being a pre cursor to punk and and lots of other modern music, but it can feel a little unfinished at times. I Need Somebody is a cool song, but not much else memorable on the album. 2.5 rounded up because Iggy Pop is a mutant.
The initial listening experience has a wow effect, but as the album progresses, it turns out to be mostly an attitude and roughness overlayed basic rhythms and basic chord progressions. A lot of cover, but rudimentary substance. Still, a good cover has its place. Individually the songs are interesting, it's only in a single, continuous listen that haflway through they lose their individuality and blend together, as the riffs, rhythms and singing all basically tell a single story. As a punk afficionado I can appreciate the spark that started a flame. But like most albums of historical importance, the importance itself won't put this back on my playlist on a regular basis.
patiko bet visos dainos zr panasios 3.5
This was a new one for me. I appreciate the music for the time Period. 4/5.
Did not listen all the way through but enjoyed what I heard; might not come back to it though
Search and Destroy is a masterpiece from the best opening lines in a song ever, to the falling bomb shriek of the guitar. But as an album I can't rate it higher than Fun House
It was fine; I am not a huge of this typically brit rock area
Great guitar playing. I don't always like Iggy's singing. Fav: I need somebody
I mean, whatever.
I mean the name kinda says it all, it’s raw vibe power throwing shit in a concrete basement but with some actually nice guitar playing
This is a very appropriately named album. Another one of Bowie's pet projects that has a lot of talent and raw emotion, but lacks real resonance for me. I love a good raw, rocking, jam, but try as I might, I couldn't get into it. I do not understand the fascination with Iggy Pop. I get all of the raw punk vibes, but his protégées seem to producer much better material. I am sure that there is more here than I am getting, but I am moving on.
This was pretty good , not my favorite but not the worst
I like search and destroy.
Too raw?
This is cool, definitely foundational
Not a punk fan, but I liked it
wow this album isn't making a big impact on me at all. i need somebody and shake appeal and gimme danger have made the biggest impacts but that could just be where my focus is when they play. im trying to do this while working on the take home assignment for phiture and it sure is boring . wish i could be some big rock and rolllllerrr.. ill listen closely. wait i do kinda like penetration it has that fun dunudundunnnananau sound like a fairytale. overall i can't give this 2 stars because that's rude but it truly made like no impact on me.....
Gimme Danger and I Need Somebody are really good, the other ones are really mid
Cool
This album surprised me. I expected screaming punk and got a variety of sounds and moods. I especially liked the song Penetration for the light riff counterpoint. rounded out and balanced otherwise aggressive and sleazy moodds. I listened to the album twice. There might be some songs I'd star to add to my favorites, but that's probably enough Stooges for me. Glad I gave it a close listen.
Too raw. 3/5
I like it, but feels like it doesn't hold steam the whole way through, no songs after Search and Destroy reach that level of excitement.
If I'm in the mood for a little angst, this probably fits the bill. I know that it will be very rare that I reach for it, but I enjoyed it more than most early punk that has come up on the list. You can tell the influence this had on modern bands. If someone else was into it and wanted it on, I can let it ride.
Faves: Gimme Danger, Raw Power, I Need Somebody.
This wasn't bad, quite a mix of genre influences, quite punky in places, long before punk. This is for me a 3.5 rating, need to listen to it again.
That is raw power all right. Not very controlled or musically brilliant. It would make a great concert, but not so much listening at home, for me.
I don't really hold The Stooges in high regard or anything. It sounded dangerous at the time, I'm sure, but kinda quaint now. Shake Appeal is cool and some of the other tracks.
Did what it said on the tin. Solid.
The selling point of Raw Power is just how huge and intense sounding it is at a point in which nothing like that really existed. Based on the 2023 masters I much prefer the Iggy Mix. Because of the way it’s recorded you can hear the Bowie mix wrestling the dynamics into a conventional shape which takes away from the RAW POWER and turns it into a pop rock album that has to stand toe to toe with pop rock records which have been more proficiently recorded. The Velvet Underground’s White Light White Heat is the only major label album I’ve heard that’s recorded “worse” from a traditional technical accomplishment perspective. It’s impossible really to know what it sounded like at the time based on what’s on streaming services. There have been so many remasters of both versions. This is where physical media is handy, as access to any particular version of any record can be withdrawn at any time. Though I suspect Iggy ‘23 version is king.
Not bad.
Nämen detta var ganska trevlig genomlyssning. Ett par toppar, resten ok - och ganska kort vilket hjälpte det hela.
Nice punk sound but nothing particularly notable in my opinion
I thought I would like this more than I did. The first track is good, the rest never grabbed me, but I was also very tired so it didn't get a fair shake.
Good not great
I have Fun House. I think it's better. But clearly in the scheme of musical history and influence a very important record.
Interesting. Nothing bad to say but nothing much to say at all. It was good, would listen again. This is a strong case for why records should only be 35 minutes. It was an hour. I think this review would be very different. Raw Power is a good title for this record. 3.2 outta 5
Sounded a little old to me
I love concept albums. These songs were great at teasing
3.5
1 billion times better than the Iggy Pop solo album that came up earlier on the list, but still not that great.
The Wikipedia article gives some much needed context on this. I figured there had to be some drama about the mix since there are so many versions to choose from. After listening to both, it seems clear they didn’t have much to work with. The Bowie cuts are ice-picky and shrill. The Pop cuts are muddy and lack definition. Nonetheless, not a bad record, there are some good riffs in here, particularly Penetration. The slow label-enforced ballads are predictably a slog. Historically and culturally significant I’m sure, but probably won’t return to this because it just doesn’t sound very good.
I liked this fine and can see how influential it was. Nothing I will probably ever choose to listen to again, but better than most I've gotten on this site.
That this album came out when it did and influence a major genre , one I’ve grown to enjoy a bunch during this project , is no small feat … however , the songs do seem dated and kinda blend into one for me
Very fundamental to the sound that would become punk rock, very concise and doesn’t overstay its welcome too much except for the last song which did not need to be as long as it was whilst being a punk song. Some riffs also were quite heavy and I can see how it may influenced some of the metal riffs after this. Solid album but not one where I would seek out to listen again
Better than Iggy by himself, but still not great.
Meh
It was okay
I listened to the Bowie mix. Cool proto-punk. I like the songs fine. Feels enough like having an early Bowie record on, and i'd rather have an early Bowie record on.
There is apparently no escaping David Bowie on this list. If he isn't one of the 9 albums, then he's producing it. Luckily, he's a pretty good producer even if I don't really like Bowies own music. Iggy & The Stooges come in hot with Search and Destroy, and then album is hit and miss from there. It's alright, but not great. Adding that first track to the playlist.
Classic rock. Fine…reminds me of a band but can’t quite put my finger on it.
Not a stooges fan. Nothing horrible but nothing great.
I don't like punk. It is what it is in it's place in history.
Clearly not my favourite Stooges. Yet still the embryos of Punk.
The album looks good.
Without making the actual pun I really enjoyed the genuine rawness of the vocals and how you can diferente each instrument. After I was done listening to it, I was thinking how it kinda reminded me of some songs of David Bowie; and when I was researching the album I found out that Bowie actually helped to produce the album, which made everything more exciting ( I really like David Bowie). Now I’m more excited to listen to more of The Stooges!
3.4
Day 78 Great album, holds up remarkably well for an album released over half a century ago 7/10 Highlights Search & Destroy Penetration Raw Power
Raw Power, and a bunch of songs that sound like Raw Power.
Raw, rock and/or roll, upbeat, didn't connect
A bit disappointed. Lots of energy and ground breaking for 1972 but a bit of a drag to listen to the whole album. I need somebody is a standout though.
Not totally my style but enjoyed the Bowie mix and the Iggy mix.
Liked it
Gutta har beeedre albuuum
I really, really like a lot of the instrumentation on this album, but the Iggy Pop delivery of lyrics is *a lot* on a number of these songs. I always knew before embarking on this project that the singer's voice was hugely important to my enjoyment of any album, but it really is make or break. I could see this getting a much better rating with a different singer, although it felt like the last track was never going to end, so it was never going to get full marks even with a vocalist I liked. Probably more a 2.5, but I'm going to give a generous 3 because I really liked Search and Destroy. 3/5
Personal favorite is "Gimme Danger," although I swear they 'borrowed' aspects from the Stones' own 1969 "Gimme Shelter."
• 3/5 • Fun photo-garage / photo-punk sound. Sesrch & Destroy is a quality single, but I didn’t love the rest. • The production is noticeably awful
I like rock but this is too grunge for my liking. It’s giving teen’s motor garage
3.5
fav: - gimme danger - I need somebody
The punk train has returned to the station but this time it’s on the less chaotic side of the tracks. Punk rock has never been in my top 17 genres of music, but I can honestly say I didn’t mind listening to this. I wouldn’t go looking for The Stooges, but I was able to tolerate the entire album without wanting to jump off a cliff.
Listening to this album feels like being a fly on the wall as the Stooges piece together Punk Rock. Heavy metal had been introduced to the world by bands like iron butterfly and black sabbath, the Stooges brought us punk rock. Decent album, can definitely see how they influenced future bands, but this was just okay for me.
"Raw Power" didn’t do much for me. Much of it felt like just noise, and I struggled to get into it. It’s not bad, but it just didn’t click with my taste.
Found this similar to their debut, dropped in some bangers but lost interest in parts. Finished strong
First two songs off the album are great, diminishing returns from there for me. Like the instrumentals for the most part but struggle with too much of this variety of American rock. Fav tracks: Search and Destroy, Gimmie Danger. Saved a song: Y RYM: Y (#270)
Not really my jam anymore, but undeniable in it's importance. I'm giving an extra star for Search & Destroy & Gimme Danger.
Iggy Pop vocals ruin what could otherwise be an album of impressive guitar rock.
There's a few versions of this album. I didn't want to listen to the whole two hour 50th anniversary edition so I listened to the 2023 remaster of the Iggy mix. And there's also a Bowie mix!? Crazy. This is definitely an influential album. And it should be something I'd enjoy. But something about it hasn't quite hit.
I enjoyed this more than I expected.
Some good guitar work, but a lot of it sounds the same. It’s fine, but no better than fine.
Not bad at all but maybe just wasn’t the vibe for updating my gradebook. Had no issues with it per se.
Why tf you grunt so much. Seriously though, it was alright. Decent rock music to jam to, and clearly an inspiration for the first wave of Punk rock. It wasn't anything amazing, but I enjoyed it well enough. Would probably be more fun to listen to on big speakers.
Chugger chugger yellow howl proto-punk/driving garage that I feel has its place but not so much in my life these days. I Need Somebody stood out as being a bit of a change in vibe. I think there are times in my life I would have enjoyed the excitement in this more, and I can defo hear its influence on some bands I liked in my youth (elements of Primal Scream in particular) but tbh it feels like fairly pointless messy swagger. There's better Stooges available too.
I quite enjoyed it. Not amazing but would probably listen to again
This is pretty fine! I elected to check out both mixes (Bowie after Iggy Pop for me), but the Bowie mix didn't really add enough for me to rate it higher. I enjoyed parts of it, just nothing too consistent.
1. Search and Destroy - 7 Decent track. Vocals aren't the best but it's still very enjoyable. Riffs in the opening lose themselves a bit, it's almost like a pitch change ten to twenty seconds in after an excellent opening. Brilliant guitar in the bridge/outro concludes the track. 2. Gimmie Danger - 7 Great sound with awesome vocals it actually takes a while to build until you get the absolutely stellar bridge with some unbelievable riffs in it. Solid track. Worth a replay just for that bridge alone. 3. Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell - 4 Good riffs and sound but vocally it's pretty poor. Can't even make out the lyrics and even when you do it's just gibberish. 4. Penetration - 4 Lyrically it's absolutely dreadful. The guitars in the background sound excellent but they're overlaid by some horrible vocals. Not an enjoyable track. 5. Raw Power - 1 Just really bad cookie cutter rock that bridges into some white noise before you get the guitar solo. By that point, you're done with the track and ready to move on. 6. I Need Somebody - 7 Solid sounding track with great lyrics. The guitar in the choruses between the lines is superb. The pace is exquisite as well. All of this takes place before another brilliant burst of a guitar solo in the bridge. Very enjoyable track. 7. Shake Appeal - 6 Decent track. Lyrically it's a bit repetitive but overall it's still a fun track especially with the great riff underpinning the whole track. 8. Death Trip - 6 Another decent track with an overall great sound. I have about the same critique for this track that I have for Shake Appeal, it's just slightly less repetitive. Overall a solid ending to the album. Average Rating: 5.25 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 2.63 Rounded Up: 3 Stars
Not at all what I expected.
Koliko su oni utjecajni bili a niko nikad o tome ne priča. Hvala im što su pogurali mnoge neuporedivno kvalitetnije izvođače. Mada, da neko drugi pjeva i ovo bi mi sve bilo ok.
Good, classic proto punk rock. Some of the tracks hit hard, others not so much.
A pretty good album, I liked Gimme Danger the most.
Probably cooler from a historical standpoint than as an album that you'd listen to regularly, but still pretty cool. Proto punk.
Raw power indeed. Garage rock anthems.
oh well - i can feel the raw power, but that does't mean I like the sound nor the rendering.
#709. Nothing here stood out as being particularly interesting. It's not bad or anything, its just not my favorite. 3/5: acceptable
Enjoyably shaggy record. 3.5
pretty good throughout and blessedly short for the moments when it wasnt
I like rock music, but I prefer medium well to rare
I have read other people’s reviews of this as I wasn’t really sure how to rate it. Some parts I loved, others I didn’t but generally people love it for its rawness and shoddy production, maybe I like my music a bit more polished….
Look out honey cause I’m using technology!! Fun album. Lots of influences here
Protopunk
Fun, but I do prefer my punk my polished
This is a good one to put on during weightlifting seshes AND all night beer bashes.
I liked a lot of the songs, particularly the weird vocal sounds on Penetration. Gimme Danger and Shake Appeal also very fun. Did not like when voice went moderately screamo like on Pretty Face Going to Hell. Sounded too close to me at karaoke.
This was ok. Nothing more than that. In that lies my lack of understanding about the adulation and mystique surrounding Iggy Pop. I don’t think there’s anything at the sharp edge of rock or punk on display here. It’s fine and nothing more than that.
Liked this way better than the other The Stooges album I had on this list. “Search and Destroy” is a great song, and you can really hear the Bowie influence. I wish I could rate this a 3.5 because it’s just not quite in the same league as other albums I’ve given 4 stars, but a 3 seems too low. It’s a high 3, though. This is a good album that deserves to be on the list.
penetrate me!?
Much like yesterday’s album I enjoyed this one without it really blowing me away. I only found out afterwards about the Bowie mix so later I’m gonna give that a listen and see if I feel differently about it. Top Track - Shake Appeal
Like the title, raw music from a pure rock star.
The mixing on this album is not very good at all, I feel like I can't hear half of it. I can see on Spotify that there's a 'Bowie Mix' and an 'Iggy Mix' so I'm guessing there's a story behind that. This album wasn't very great. It had some above average songs like "Gimme Danger" to balance out the below average songs like "Death Trip". It was short enough that I didn't get too burned out. 5/10
They found another way to get a David Bowie album in the list
Gostei, até porque gosto de algumas coisas de Iggy Pop e The Stooges, mas não é a minha coisa favorita.
Interesting album, a little bit out there for me. 5.6/10
Feels like an early pop punk album, bit heavy side than today's pop punk. Overall I like it but it's not something, I would pick if it's in my playlist.
Lots of energey here - but I didnt engage with this one. I listened trhough twice and there was just something missing for me. 3.5.
Was less impressed with this one. 3/5
Et fint album, men det traff meg ikke helt.
Cover 4 Really liked the 4 opening songs. Iggy Pop is a super douchebag but The Stooges are a fun listen. Musically simplistic, lyrically too, but fun none the less. But by no means great.
3/5
Iggy -passenger - Trainspotting…letzter Punk. Erster Punk. C
Cool.
I’m not sure why I didn’t like this very much. I enjoy punk, it’s an iconic album, it’s produced by Bowie… a lot of the ingredients were there but in the end I did not like listening to it that much. But I understand how influential this record was.
Probably my least favorite Stooges album, but still enjoyable! Bowie's mix sounds much better in my opinion.
Need to be in the right vibe for this.
Improved on second listen. Some good stuff but not universally enjoyable.
Pretty good - didn’t really pay too much attention
Much better than the other Stooges album. The A-side is great, but the B-side holds it back a bit. However, still an easy 3 stars.
Influential, chaotic rock
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to listen to the Bowie Mix or the Iggy mix. Going with the Iggy mix. Pretty undeniable vibe. The weaker material sounds like the New York dolls. But the Stooges have an edge that seems more authentic than the later distillations. The hits are good, no real discoveries elsewhere.
Similar to another album this week, this sounded different than I was expected for a stooges album. The word raw is what came to mind. Alot more backroom bar bluesy than punky. A decent listen
An example of a great album with bad production. All the music is great, powerful punk rock with no weak tracks. However, David Bowie’s mixing holds it back. This wasn’t his fault, as he was working on a low budget with extremely outdated technology and had to get the whole album mixed in a day. This knocks it down a bit, but it’s still a very strong record. 3/5
Oh no Iggy, I thought I'd like this more.
Very oldschool for my ears yet again lol. A majority of the songs were just, good enough though!
I know and appreciate Iggy Pop as one of the granddaddies of Rock I wasn't aware of the Stooges.but I like Raw Power for exactly what it suggests. Although I must say it's less raw than many titles on this 1001 album list (except for Iggy's vocals but hey, that comes with the territory). It's only rock 'n roll but I like it. Then Spotify suggested Loose as an encore. Brilliant. Loved it!
Clearly influential. You can see the green shoots of UK punk sprouting from here (with a bit of Ramones thrown in). The sound here clearly had a major impact on The Hives, a band I'm a big fan of. Listened 3 times. Sounds like it was recorded on a tape machine in a garage. I prefer the Bowie mix (probably only because I listened to it last) but to be honest it’s difficult to spot much of a difference. Clearly there wasn’t a lot to mix as both mixes sound raw. The material isn’t great. But it’s better than The Stooges album where they ran out of material after about 10 minutes. 3½
I listened to the Bowie mix first and the Iggy mix second. Bowie’s mix is cleaner, crisper and a bit thinner but Iggy’s mix doesn’t really improve the overall listener experience either. I don’t really rate this album. It’s fine, it starts out strong and the songs are decent. Throughout the album the hints to Iggy’s teeny crush on Jim Morrison, are evident, and some tracks have a Doors vibe, especially I Need Somebody. I know people wank lyrical about this album, and The Stooges generally, but i don’t think this album is any better than decent, regardless of who mixed it.
Solid rock album.
Nostalgic, I owned this CD as a kid.
It was pretty good.
I think the album's name is a perfect summary of what you listen there. I liked the song Gimme danger.
Not my absolute favourite Stooges album, but the vocal range and delivery always impresses well and it hit the spot pretty well.
My brother introduced me to the Stooges w/ Search and Destroy and I gotta say that was prob the best song on there. The others were good at times but didn't really grab me as much.
Lives up to its Name! 3/5 #musicsky #albumsky
Despite cracking my teeth on punk years ago, I've not really listened to a lot of Iggy Pop (nor the Stooges for that matter). The album title, 'Raw Power' I found a little unfitting. Perhaps it was that I listened to it while running on pretty low quality headphones (with not much volume - sorry, Iggy). I wasn't kicked in the gut like I was hoping to. Strong punky guitars. Not a lot of memorable variation between the songs. I did enjoy 'I need somebody', which boasted a grunty blues acoustic and that wailing that I've come to associate Iggy with (or what my friend used to channel in a band he played in 2009). This felt like an album that I would put on and enjoy but not soak into. Not quite 'Raw Power'. More, 'Powered, but not Blasting'. Smooth, perhaps? Ah, 3 Stars.
This album is like the second half of your birthday party. You’ve been behaving up until now because your family were at the party and you have been nervous about overdoing it and making a scene, while also hoping that your friends would keep in bounds too. But now you’ve just said goodbye to your grandparents as your uncle has taken them home. You return inside, light up a cigarette and crack open a rum RTD cos it’s time for this party to kick it up a notch
Good though not sure it holds up over time. But a solid listen regardless.
Thought this was good. Like the energy. Pretty simplistic, but in a good way. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
Not quite my style but I enjoyed it.
An album I have to listen to quickly in one go on holiday that I read deserves a lot more than that. So I don't know what to think. It's interesting, and it's got a raw sound but I can't quite feel the full force that it clearly made. I'll give it another go later ...
kinda fun but nothin special
70s album
Cool raw album, would be great to hear live. Nevertheless, none of the songs really stood out to me. 3.5 stars rounded to 3.
Perfect album title. Found it interesting there are two versions, the Bowie Mix and the Iggy Mix that sound so different. Punk doesn’t do it for me much as a grow older but I respect what the Stooges did for the genre. The guitar work here is the standout for me even though I feel like it should have been Iggy’s moment.
I was looking forward to this. An album often included in the top 100 albums of the 70s and it was good, more new wave than punk which surprised me but at the end of the day, all seemed to meld in to one for me.
Ripped and sinewy...just like Iggy Pop
I have never listened to any of the albums made with the stooges, and I only really know of Iggy’s music with the album ‘Lust For Life’ although I was suprised to find I knew a few songs purely from the covers that have been done from future bands that clearly give a lot of credit to this band and this album in particular. I know Raw Power from Guns&Roses
'Raw Power' by The Stooges, you get what is advertised. Nothing more, nothing less.
Old school punk, cool vocals, short songs, the addition of acoustic guitar was surprising and really added to the style in an atypical way.
I love iggy. I love what he stands for, his energy, his power, his anger and his danger. I find his music hit and miss. This was my second of his albums and it was the better of the two, more tune and more consistency made it a more pleasurable listen The world most jarring glockenspiel was a ridiculous moment.
Accurately titled. I like some Iggy Pop, but I'm guessing this is on the early and more raw side -- I prefer my punk a little more melodic than this. Some good riffs, and pretty listenable, but nothing really grabbed me.
Don’t mind me a bit of punk so long as it’s the right dose at the right time. This toed the line pretty well and verged on a 4 at times, but was ultimately a bit too raw for me.
I think this was probably pretty good but I couldn’t see anything bad or anything amazing so a solid 3/5
The music is great but the production is so poor, I struggled to get past it
Not a fan. They are a good band but not for me
Does what it says on the tin! This might be sacrilege, but I didn’t like this as much as the debut. Maybe I wasn’t listening under the right conditions
I know it’s an incredibly influential album so maybe I need a little more time with it (I feel like this could be my answer to a lot of these). Still liked it though! Just wasn’t quite blown away. Also was listening while doing other stuff sooo didn’t have full attention
Nothing really stood out on this one for me, but it feels like a solid punk album from the 70s.
This record was decent and a little underwhelming. Musically, the performances were good, and the vocals were okay. Favourite Track(s): Search and Destroy, Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell Least Favourite Track(s): Raw Power, Death Trip
I can hear how this could serve as emblematic of a time and place in music -- and Iggy is a force to be reckoned with -- but it's all too grating for my ears.
Cool guitar throughout
6.5
3/5
It's okay.
Pretty solid album, nothing I hated. Only know one song from The Stooges and it’s not on this album so. Overall, it was pretty good
It’s on the way to punk but it’s not punk. It was sort of middle of the road for me - I’ve heard better from Iffy before and after this album. Just an OK Stooges album.
Kult. Ingen sanger som går inn i noe spilleliste, men gøy å høre inspirasjonskilden til veldig mye kul musikk. Beste låt: Penetration
Ålreit album med stor innflytelse, men kommer nok ikke til å plukke det opp igjen med det første.
Cool stuff, not that familiar. Raw power indeed.
good 3.5 can see why its influential but i like the stuff it influenced better
Angry and, well, raw.
It's alright. Nice sound, but the songs are kinda same-y.
Well it's a bit of a mess but sets the scene for so much that was to follow... Raw Power - does what it says on the tin! 💪
Rock n roll with a little bit of punk and some interesting psychedelic parts. Mostly sounds like the kind of thing you’d use to score a 70’s high school movie where they smoke cigarettes and tailgate while wearing lots of denim. Or maybe something you’d smoke weed to in someone’s garden shed/garage
Punk with keys, not expected
I like that The Stooges existed more than I like listening to them. However, “Search and Destroy” and “Gimme Danger” are great songs.
3.5 tbh
Incredible that this came out in 1973, as their… third album. Way ahead of any other punk, considering the famous “year zero” in the UK is 1977. Search and Destroy has some all-time guitar work, but Iggy’s attitude is surely the driving force of the album.
Pretty fun!
Nothing really stood out to me, just another hard rock album. Nothing really bad to say either, but it just wasn’t anything special for me.
OK
I AM THE WORLD'S FORGOTTEN BOY. Quick and dirty punk album. Vocals and guitar are clearly the focus.
I've listened to this before all the way through at some point. But the only song that jumps out at me from the track list in search and destroy. The palette is blues based rock with a punk spirit. Search and Destroy and Raw Power seem like the standouts. Guitar is fucking wailing over everything. The production sounds so bad. If I got a 45 of Search and Destroy i don't think id feel like I was missing out on much of this album. The last two songs are pretty good too.
It's ok
